Yeah. Got a case of the Mondays. You know, I want you to know that this show almost didn't happen. There was a tragedy. There was a 20-minute power outage, which sent SDP and HQ into absolute, a flutter. But we were lucky enough that Toronto Hydro, the good folks there, got the power back on. And believe it or not, and I didn't know this, even if the power was out, we'd be able to do at least a little bit of a show because Jesse's got batteries. And I did not know.

Cameras can be used with batteries. Would you just stand up and change them in the middle of a conversation? That's what we got. That's what we got Matty for. Forget me. Right. Matty's here. No, you'd have to do it for old times.

For old times sake. Yeah. People don't remember that. What's that? Sling Studio. No, because you need to plug that into the wall. We'd have to do SD cards into the camera. Okay, you're filming something.

We don't have those here. It's not a big deal. SDP cards. SDP cards. There you go. Now, for those of you who maybe don't remember when this show started producing video content, I believe the first that we used to do was like, it was just the first 30 minutes that was on video, right? and then jesse started um doing the whole show but there would be a time where jesse would have

to get up and switch out the memory cards or switch out the batteries and so the video you would go blank for a couple of minutes and the audio would continue on the video and then jesse would have to switch it and it would look amazing afterwards like it was it was flawless it was amazing that you pulled it off jesse and there was like because there's rules about certain cameras they can't video over yeah to be classified as a like a photography camera your video capabilities can't go over 30 minutes so if you have a regular dslr it records up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds or whatever it is and then uh to if you have certain import laws you want to be uh as a video camcorder you've got to go over that time limit but there are different tax rules for

that so yeah they only went up to 30 minutes so eventually we got to the point where we bought two cameras yeah that when i switched one i go to the other one and then we could switch but there was a point where we only had one camera and one battery at one point yeah so we only had 30 minute recordings then we bought two batteries and then there'd be like the 30 seconds it took me to change the battery i remember i bought that first camera off of facebook not facebook marketplace like kijiji or something like that for for six hundred dollars and that was like a that's quite expensive yeah because that camera that originally was like twelve hundred dollars or something like that, and I was like, wow, I got a

screaming deal, but all the camera prices have come down since then. Yeah, today that camera's worth like 20 bucks. I know. That's ridiculous. Election season, we always argue over a bunch of stuff. I want to know how much money we spent coming up with laws for

taxes between picture cameras and video cameras. What are we doing? Who asked for that? Yeah, I don't know. I don't know why there are different import laws and tax rules regarding camcorders and photography cameras. Someone had to pitch that. Someone had to push that

through. Someone had to draft the law. Someone has to enforce the law. Hold on, hold on. Which means people are just going around, what are we doing? We had several committees about the law and there were recommendations made. And then we had to create a first draft and then we had to go back and go, are there any holes in the first draft?

Yes, there are. We're going to have to do a second draft and then maybe we might be able to get it to bring it to legislation. And should I get a raise all in favor me across all parties if you're a member of government or you're in the c-suite at a big corporation you

can vote your own you can vote your own raises in you know what it's amazing yeah comrade dangle right here comrade dangle members of parliament they gotta like do stuff all day so they gotta draft these funky laws yeah they gotta they gotta

tweet weird stuff too like what members of parliament in canada like america i don't know where you're going american politicians tweet stuff and you're like okay at least this is outrageous but it's entertaining canadian ones are like let me tell you about this and you're like i am so bored i can't even finish the tweet okay here's why it's entertaining to us because we're not american yeah it doesn't mean anything it does affect us you're just like lol you silly goose that's enough out of you yeah and then you close twitter and they don't affect your life anymore yeah well at least for now what do you guys think about the

election let's let's not go there i actually there's a few things i want to talk about uh but the first thing i want to do is i want to i want to start the show by bringing in and i'm unilaterally doing this okay uh i i want to suggest that we have a new award a new award you know we don't have a lot of awards here on the sdp but i think this award uh matters i think this is awards this is there's a big gaping hole for this award and i think that it's been needed in hockey and really in sports for a really long time and the award is the main character award so who will we give the main character award to now believe it or not this is a great idea the main character award has their you're saying adam but what do they get what do they get for the main

character award well listen i this is the best i could find this morning when i came up with the idea so it's a birth happy it's a birthday boy uh but but i will get a better i'm gonna get a better trophy for this i don't even know where you buy trophies but i went to the dollars have like a soccer trophy on the dollarama nothing at dollaram nothing at dollarama for that but they had birthday boys so we're gonna start with a little penny yeah for anybody listening adam's got the generic birthday boy pin from dollarama yeah which i always thought was weird like you get a penny like you get an award for a ribbon thing being born cool man yeah birthday boy take that and that'll be your present to me do you know that it's steve dangles birthday yeah so i'm

opening oh sorry sorry you're struggling with that package man i gotta use your teeth no i i have fake teeth they can't oh shit yeah um what about me who should have fake can i tell a story about your fake teeth yeah well uh while you try to open that yeah adam wilde at our first the first year we ever went to the eric lindros celebrity classic in support of easter seals ontario was sitting in the locker room and as you do in a hockey locker room you get the tape out you know you get some tape to take up tape up your shin pads to your to your body and adam wilde in the middle of ripping the tape he used his mouth and using his mouth to rip the tape ripped off his his fake teeth that's where i ripped half of one i have a great photo of it yeah it's a good one

i'm pretty sure it's steve like whenever i call him it's the picture that comes up is this still me with a yeah with half a tooth and it's like call steve dangle glenn after the game it's adam's like oh i got a broken tooth but it's not your phone is yeah okay because it's it's over the years it's combined so like my my mom's one is like called mom dennis here it is no it's oh it's not there anymore no okay i think because you changed it i looked um i looked uh at uh i looked like the guy from dumb and dumber like it was it was very very clearly dumb and dumber looking but anyway i wanted to i want to award this um main character award to wes mccauley and the officiating crew at the philadelphia flyers game

on saturday afternoon was it or was it friday night uh it was it was saturday because it was before hockey right right now this story this story is so unbelievable um and this is where this is people are why are you so hard on the refs and it's all you leaf fans you're always complaining about the refs let me tell you something it comes down to this it's who's got to answer for it okay so players they have a bad game they gotta answer for it they gotta answer to the gm the coach the agent everybody everybody else the fans oh my god the fans let i'm hearing okay coach makes a bad coaching decision well they got to hear it from the gm the players the fans fire you know how many hashtag fire keefs have we heard this year

despite the team being relatively good they're fine yeah um they're on the better half of fine yeah they're i would say so right and and so and then and then you've got you've got the general managers who hear it from the players and the coaches and the fans and the agents everybody everybody oh actually you know what i'll include us in this i'm gonna cape bait the media m e being the the key word here uh the media we have to be accountable we hear it from our listeners we sometimes hear from the team we sometimes hear from player security guards it's all happened believe me yes and and and i'll tell you sometimes you gotta you gotta think about it for a second you gotta go okay am i if i go forward with this argument that i'm making what kind of reaction am

i gonna get if i really believe this and i know i'm gonna get blowback i better really back it up i better know what i'm talking about right the only people in this dance of hockey that uh that are unaccountable for anything are the referees and the nhl protects them and it's happened for a while and john tortorella with his broken hand how do you break his hand we don't know probably punching a wall probably i mean yeah are we just gonna gloss yeah i want to know more about the broken hand, I'll be honest. But John Tortorella, along with all the other coaches, were warned before the beginning of this season that the NHL was not going to tolerate any sort of abuse of the officials. They had two ejections last year total. This year, it's already at five. We have

one $25,000 suspension with Sheldon Keefe, who was ejected. And now we have a two-game suspension of john tortorella plus a fifty thousand dollar fine why that's a really good question we don't know well he refused to leave the bench but which but why did he refuse to leave the bench this is the thing right this is the thing you know we only before you get into your thing let me just explain the the hand thing back in 2020 uh john tortorella was cleaning one of the hoofs of one of his horses and he tore a tendon in his hand and he they delayed the surgery until recently

so he had the surgery on his hand to repair the tendon I prefer my years later yeah I prefer my version of events which is where he punched a wall because he's so intense no it was blame the horses all right anyways you can go ahead that seems rational blame the horses go ahead well I usually do but

that's a Red Dead Redemption tendency that I have listen we don't know anything about these people we don't know anything about these refs and i think they'd be more sympathetic uh figures if we did um dude they take horrible abuse they take horrible abuse all of the time and i can't remember when we discussed this if it was before this season or last you know torts and sheldon keith and there was another one recently as well another coach recently we're fine for unprofessional conduct now hockey is hockey

and uh hockey culture is different from grocery store culture you know you couldn't behave the same way at a grocery store as you do on a hockey rink or in a hockey rink um but by nature the way players and coaches act towards refs and the way refs act towards players and coaches is grossly unprofessional and is there any repercussions for that on the ref's side of things if there is we never know about it there are two miked up incidents that i can think of recently tim peel in both cases the ref didn't know their mic was still on tim peel uh said the the quietest part loud with his whole chest yeah he said he was trying to find a penalty against another team because the other team i think it was a preds red wings game was it

um and what happened to him well he never repped again he never was retiring but he was not fired he just simply never got you can't it's a union it's hard to fire much harder it is well and but no no no whoa whoa whoa whoa adam adam i've been part of a union um when i was at the the zoo this is relevant information i love it i love a zoo's story coming in on this listen it it protected employers or employees sorry it protected employees and it came in very handy very often every now and then someone came across where we're like this dude sucks and should probably go but union yep one day someone caught him stealing well you can't steal your union's not going to be like actually he's allowed to steal you can't steal you're out of a job you're out of a union

you're a ref you are caught on microphone on television fixing a game intentionally saying I'm not really paying attention to what's going on out here

I'm just looking to see if the Preds are on their best behavior and they know that which affects the way they play and you're gonna hammer them with the next penalty you're ruining the integrity of the game if you're caught on microphone doing that hell yeah you're getting fired so why wasn't he fired well because it was easier to just let him fail sail off into the sunset that's your theory

my theory is it's mandated from the top well and to support that point and i think any all 32 teams fan bases can agree on this it's a little bit weird that every game ends up within a penalty or two of each other it's very odd except for the calgary flames after dennis weidman wasn't that weird so weird and we weren't allowed to ask any question hey uh the team that employed the guy who heard a ref uh cannot cannot participate in anything that remotely resembles hockey game how many home games were during that stretch where the refs just intentionally deliberately fucked the flames for those games how many home games were there and can every calgary flames fan get a refund for those tickets to nonsensical illegitimate games they were

illegitimate games prove they weren't they were absolutely illegitimate why wasn't the guy canned because it comes from above the other mic'd up situation i can think of is andrew peak when he was on the columbus blue jackets i can't remember who the game was against but he was beacon at the ref he was beacon at the ref and the ref goes up to the penalty box and goes up to the camera and number two two minutes for whatever and peak is yipping at him yipping at him and he's not mic'd up so you can't hear what he's saying but before the refs mic turns off he goes you shut the fuck i did you've never seen that clip i i forgot about i do i have hilarious all you need you know what you need to do youtube type in search bar andrew peak shut the fuck up that's what i did

and I found it you shut the fuck I'm sorry that's not unprofessional conduct that's grossly unprofessional conduct was he fined for that was he taken off of games for that we'll never fucking know because tell you what Alan Walsh has a point it's a kangaroo court it's an absolutely made up kangaroo court is Wes McCauley gonna face any repercussions for that thing with John we don't know we don't we don't know we don't know what fucking happened other than you don't ref the playoffs which fat chance he's gonna get every game seven like he always does so here's here's the issue and i think you made a great point off the top and i don't think enough people are talking about this okay and the reason you know what i'm actually instead of just calling

it the main character award we're gonna call it the uh the honorary wes mccauley main character award uh tire presented to the main character retire this week uh in the nhl um no i i what i'm saying is i think that you make a great point in saying that if we knew more they would be more there would be a more sympathetic view of the referees i've heard i've heard from uh i know tim peel was like calling out leaf fans the other day on his podcast and i'm like maybe you just don't understand what it's like to be a fan uh twitter's got to be studied by science and and then every and every conspiracy theory you've ever had about nhl officiating is just confirmed by him on a daily basis and what i will say is that espn's uh uh referee guy uh dave jackson's always

been respectful he's he's always been uh honest and said you know this is where you're wrong and this is where this is bullshit and i think you you know whatever but at very least he's been super respectful i have nothing but good things to say about him but here's my point if we knew a little bit we would feel a little bit better and what i'm so sick of i'm really sick of this is um the oh what the refs take so much abuse so do the players so do the coaches so do the general managers and so does the media all of us who are partners in this dance by the way we could all be a little nicer we could all be a little nice but but the reality of the situation is down in that when the games are happening you know the players take more than verbal abuse physical abuse and they sign up

for it refs if you want to be a ref you sign up for a little bit of i'm going to deal with hotheads and i don't think any nhl ref would would under would be mad at that i want to know why john tortorella was fined if john tortorella said something horrible and it was like and it was in the heat of the moment and he regrets it and i apologize and it's worth fifty thousand dollars if it's really just comes down to john tortorella swearing at the ref and going you don't know what you're talking about ultimately and he gets two games of 50 grand for that because he didn't leave the bench quote unquote i think that that is outrageous i think i think that you need to be if you're going to have a public sport right this isn't behind closed doors for rich elites

although toronto you know you can make it make the agreement or make the uh the argument this is for the public the public gets to hold everybody accountable except for the refs And that is the problem, because if if you made the refereeing accountable, then the NHL would have to change a bunch of stuff. The NHL has loud and clear told everybody, every hockey fan, accountability is a one way street. At the beginning of the season, we told coaches, cool it. They haven't cooled it. So we're dinging them. officials rule the roost do whatever you want with impunity and even if you do step out of line no one's ever gonna know about it go and do whatever you want let's embolden these already

uh sensitive dudes and uh just first period first period you're gone come on man yeah what are we doing what end of the game someone's losing their temper i understand i yeah first period i like this the governor of the flyers and comcast uh spectator chairman ceo dan uh hilferty said whatever fine the nhl tries to send to john tortorella they're gonna pay it he said can i give him some financial advice he should have said that after they levied the fine oh i think he said it before and then they made it 50 you think the extra 25k was for him saying that not necessarily but there's a greater than zero percent chance here's what he said i'm really proud of torts for standing by the way he's the comcast ceo 50 grand is nothing

oh i know this team i know i'm i'm really tired i'm really proud of torts for standing up for his and our team this new era of orange is about having each other's back last night torts had our collective backs i respect any action uh the league might feel is needed to take it but if it Concludes a fine. I am paying it. And I, here's what, I love that for the Flyers because their fans are going to eat that up. Rah, rah, rah, rah.

Like rabble, rabble, rabble, rabble, right? Yeah, absolutely. Secondly, they're trying to build a winning culture in Philadelphia and it's working, right? Look at what they've done this year. Look at how much the players love each other. Maybe not that game, but you understand what I'm saying. Yes.

And frankly, and we do this every year and it's getting progressively worse. The refereeing, the more it's come under the spotlight, the more that things like legalized gambling are happening, the more it's going to be scrutinized. Well, Adam, I'm glad you brought that up. It's another view, gaze into the NHL's priorities. Shane Pinto did what he did.

We still don't even really know what he did, but it was against his contract. It was against the rules. 41 games, you're gone. John Tortorella, mean. mean and yelled at the refs and got kicked out of the game and when he got kicked out of the game refused to leave two games wield your hockey stick and swing it like a friggin bat go back and look at petrangelo on leon dry sidle last year in the playoffs go back you don't have to

go that far go to truba yeah truba on trent frederick is still one of the most mystifying there's no justification for it no there's no justification for it but he didn't mean to you guys but he didn't mean to who gives a flying fuck but guys the two game suspension is something i have the most problem with because it comes out of nowhere like i don't there's no precedence there's no understanding of why it's two games i've never i don't think i've ever seen it's ridiculous that he has to sit out these two games the last coach i can think of getting suspended was john i'm not actually yeah i don't understand where two games comes from and i think it's absurd that it comes from it comes from an official's feelings are far more important to

us than a player's health yeah but that that that has to do with the nhlpa that's what the fine is for that's why you doubled the fine from 25 to 50 where does two games come from they pulled that out of their ass and it means nothing you know what these guys are on headset all game if i'm john how are you gonna catch me how are you gonna catch me you all got earbuds in we all got microphones it's 2024 fuck you you go sit in the video i'm coaching this game from the sixth deck you go sit in the video room and fuck yeah just do it in the little microphone welcome to the future asshole get fucked that's what i'm doing if i'm john tortorella like that's ridiculous it's what's wild too is like who has a more extensive relationship than john tortorella and wes mccauley

in terms of coaches and officials wes has been a well sheldon and well yeah that's a little a little more complicated but uh uh torts has been a head coach in this league i don't even know an extremely they were celebrating the 04 cup win in tampa oh the game he got kicked out and he was the coach dude and all those guys in the press spots were laughing their ass off because they're like funniest there's old john going off again i love freddie modine with his big glass of wine going that made me laugh the dude's been doing this forever yeah but like wes mccauley i think has been an official since it's either 99 or 2001 or something like that those guys have been in the nhl for basically the same amount of time like how many wes mccauley games has john tortorella

coached how many uh john tortorella games is wes mccauley officiated uh like these guys i assume know each other like pretty well at least on a professional level um it'd be one thing if it was an older coach in this league screaming at one of the younger ones um i like i think that adds to all of this but um all we have is our guesses and like it's it's not you're you're saying that it's something to do with wes and all that we don't know i got no i don't know it's not we got no idea it's not unbelievable to me that john tortorella might have said something out of hand like you know what i mean i'm not i'm not here to make assumptions i have no idea but it all yeah you're neutral right yeah i don't know i'm siding with john i'm not neutral on this fuck

the refs like they shouldn't they shouldn't they shouldn't have given them two games for something we don't even know like at the end of the day listen coaches are probably too hard on these guys they're not probably they're too hard on these guys coaches are too hard on nhl officials but the nhl has set the precedent that it's a one-way street you're telling me you're comfortable with the ref who just told your player to shut the fuck up and in front of a stadium of thousands of people and on television you're telling me okay so getting back to the sports betting thing my team loses that game i might have some things to say well what reasons do you have to uh say that the game you know might have been illegitimate or tampered with well uh the lead official told

one of the players shut the fuck up well i don't i don't mind that i don't i don't mind i don't mind a a ref because the the refs get they get they get all this shit thrown at them i don't mind a ref saying shut the fuck up back i don't mind that no no that doesn't bother me adam you're what is it tell me the conduct going both ways and i've said this and people go that's hockey well then hockey like just uh by virtue is unprofessional you yes you're like oh yeah i can take it how many times have we seen players not be able to take it morgan riley just cross checked the guy in the face for scoring a goal funny you know what i mean these guys can't take it players coaches refs very obviously publicly on camera can't take it well and and here and

it's fucking up their relationship here's where the argument changes though right if so if something because here's the thing saying f you or or f your call or that's a bad call or whatever in in however colorful language you want to phrase it is one thing saying something personal like like and this is maybe who knows what could be said but if you it's like an argument with with somebody that you love you you try to make it about the action you never make it personal right it's never it's not hey you say that was stupid not you are stupid and maybe that's what the nhl is trying to say is like listen criticize the call and whatever but don't act like a clown right and And don't make it personal.

And I know that people make it personal all the time in the NHL. And people are like, well, you know, everybody's so soft. Well, this is the thing is that here's how the refs come across. Everybody talks about how soft the NHL is going. This looks soft. This looks soft. It looks like, okay, I didn't want to hear from him anymore. And we're going to let it go.

And the best direct comparable we have right now for managers getting kicked out is baseball. Yeah. Happens once or twice a week. and does it stop the managers from yelling at the umps no no no so also if we want to compare it to baseball after the the umpire tosses the coat the manager he's allowed to keep going and get more of his money's worth that's that's kind of wild that's essential in the manager yelling at the umpire he gets a piece of his money you know he keeps going after he's tossed and he does all the shenanigans he wants and then he finally leaves the the diamond but like john tardella

standing there for a little bit i don't got any problem with that like if he got tossed in that moment that's a regular tossing we saw it happen with a couple guys in the recent like cronin got fine shelvin keith got kicked out and that's the one like there it's been it's happened in the last couple weeks and him standing there for a couple minutes being an asshole not leaving that's not two games i don't understand where the two games comes from establishing dominance that's it that's ridiculous that's all it is it's establishing dominance by the way just don't forget that you're here at our behest you're lucky and and that that is by the way the ref the that is head office's way of controlling the game it's the referees who issues this suspension because it's

no so it must have been from 2011 oh 2011 sorry because the boston bruins were in the stanley cup playoffs in the stanley cup final who was on the boston bruins steve gregory campbell wow That's Campbell. That name sounds familiar. Who was Colin Campbell's kid. No way. And he was found in emails that appeared in court documents complaining about the officiating of his son.

It's 13 years later. He's still in a position of power. That's crazy. Crazy. Caught red-handed. In print. In print. In court.

Still there. not a league not even remotely a league this is where i get shocking and embarrassing this is where i get upset when i hear from people who are in the who are of the refereeing community and i'm not talking about minor league refs you guys you guys do the lord's work you take a lot of bullshit from parents you don't deserve that let's get that off the table i i i and i i i think it's important to make that distinction i feel like we never should have to but but a lot of minor league refs will reach out and be like guys like it's really tough and i and i get that imagine being but you're not a ref you're not a paid professional the nhl refs are imagine their job

an nhl ref in that scenario what one of my bosses is complaining about how i'm doing my job pertaining to his kid they won by the way yeah and and and this is the thing and by the way it doesn't you're not sure colin got his day with the cup it's it's it's a different thing when we're talking about uh you know house league or even triple a versus the nhl big difference we're talking about the nhl refs who deserve to be under the same spotlight and i think steve you make a really good point i always that's a forfeiture of your job type of thing you're clicking send on that email dude it's corruption in print nothing and so when fine when people who are in the pro referee camp believe it or not there are some people in that camp come at us

with that it's like you just point them to this and you go okay oh i don't have a point oh you're right you're right i'm completely wrong i got nothing i get i don't know anything i've never reffed at the nhl level so there i couldn't possibly have an opinion on which by the way is a an argument full of holes so bullshit um this and and when you bring that up steve it's so funny because it was right at the beginning of the the internet really taking off and grabbing a hold of sports you know what i mean like you could go to a website and you could you could read stories but there wasn't the the social back and forth like it is today it's so intense today compared to the way it used to be and so if that email comes out today colin campbell loses his

job 100 100 it's like i don't know twitter and the internet and tv and radio all that shit was around yeah but it was like back in the wife yeah this was so why it was tyler dello who exposed it did you mention that it was it was his blog who who uncovered the emails uh from colin campbell And in it, he clearly had a vendetta against Mark Savard, who he called a little fake artist. That's like quotes from the emails. Yeah, I got it all. And the biggest faker going. And the NHL actually responded to the emails.

And they ended up saying, as a senior executive vice president of hockey operations for the NHL, Colin Campbell is required to analyze and assess candidly and directly the performance of every member of hockey operations department, including those all on ice officials. He also is required to execute the direction of the 30 clubs with regard to the standards of on-ice rules enforcement, as well as on-ice player conduct. In the execution of those rigorous and challenging duties over 12 seasons, Colin has been thorough, thoughtful, professional, and scrupulous. His integrity has been impeccable, and he has no role whatsoever in matters pertaining to games in which his son plays. Colin Campbell has the complete confidence and support of the National Hockey League, as do all members of the Hockey Operations Department. And this is so egregiously like false and wrong and misleading because in the emails, you see him directly emailing officials and the head of officiating calling players like Mark Savard fake artists, you know, and this is if it's I think Adam's completely right.

So Colin Campbell writes to Stephen Walkam, a bend in the road is is a dead end if you round the corner and Dean Warren is standing there. His high stick calls in the score of the game were horseshit. The third call on redacted player was while they were down five on four and on a defensive zone faceoff versus that little fake artist. We know now it's Mark Savard. I had him in Blank City, the biggest faker going. And Warren fell for it when he grabbed his face on a faceoff.

You're supposed to see the act, not call the embellishing act. Dean Warren has to go with the referee there. There must be a way to get rid of this guy. Is there a way we can track and total minors called – his English is awful. Is there a way we can track the total minors called by referees this year? We could then get the minors they call per game or with two referees on the ice. Is it possible? Warren, the referee, out of this club's game.

We must try and get Warren out of this club's games. Give them to blank referees. match fixing steven walkum the head of officiating says that's funny yet not funny i think we have that data but it may work in his favor that's why i'm against data and more about it i don't know what's it is uh i don't know he doesn't have a test oh yeah maybe maybe he doesn't have it never had it and his average at best probably never get it okay i'm gonna stop so there we have colin campbell emailing the head of officiating about calling uh nhl player a fake artist calling uh for a referee to not officiate another player's game because he's

So that Colin Campbell is happy with how the games are officiated? What the fuck? 13 years since these came to light. This was 2007.

This was the year I started making videos. This is when they were sent. Nearly two decades ago, that email was sent. Four years later, it came to light. Still has a job. Rangers didn't do it. Did he play for the Red Wings too? Marzaldia?

but now in this little two-week stretch here they're playing more like what their record says and the numbers in this week's stretch have supported like they are they're a 25th in the league place team they're finally for maybe the first time this season a negative goal differential team yes all season long they were positive on the gd and i was like it's all they have is march they figure out the power play they're gonna be good but now they're 25th and goals four which is ugly they're still at the bottom of the i think 30 or 29th in power play percentage they are where who we thought they were at this point this is who they really are and it's disappointing i want to say this too like i told you i've said this all season kyle dubas had a disastrous july 1st and i

three first-round picks in a row worked out. They got Jake DeBrusque out of it. Yeah. Like, they weren't wrong about the kid. They were wrong that he was better than... Other people. Matt Barzal and Thomas Chabot and fucking... Yep.

The problem I would have with the Lars Eller deal is that you're spending that sort of money, you're getting a sure thing. Uh-uh. like what what what used to drive me nuts is the way he came in was this wunderkind and the smartest guy in the room and capable of finding those bargain basement guys and he did that really well actually at times uh he didn't do that in pittsburgh what like lars eller been like eight months yeah yeah lars eller at that cap hit is exactly the sort of

player you would think he wouldn't go and get right like you're gonna get buzz flip it mark donk and some guy you've never heard of and they're gonna play for 925 000 and they're gonna do just as well as someone making two and a half yeah and i think i think that's part of what's working against him is we have enough resume now that the wunderkind thing is difficult to justify well he's also almost 40 but yeah no no but it is it's difficult to justify if you you base it on the results which is how we're all judged um it doesn't matter how how brilliant any one contract is it you have to look at the full picture and the results aren't good one second round appearance that lasted for five games the rest of them you know you can you know and again i'm not trying to

just trash the guy because he wasn't here or he's not here anymore um i think you know i was a big supporter when he came in i thought some of the moves he made were great but the end of the day And I think Kyle Dubas knows this better than anyone. The results are not there. And he's got a lot to prove. I think there needs to be a little leeway to be given to Kyle Dubas in particular because he was hired on June 1st of 2023. That's a month to the draft.

That's a month to free agency. And he's required to build a Stanley Cup contender in 30 days while he's moving to a new city with a team he doesn't know, with a farm system he doesn't know. I bet he did no research when he was signed to that contract. And it's a little hard to just judge him completely on what's happened here when he's been given no time to prepare for the gig. It's a snap decision, four weeks, free agency hits, and he just has to sign these guys to try and go for it.

So I'm giving him a little bit of leeway here in that there's time for him to do this job correctly. It's a long contract. It's seven years. He's going to be in it for a long time. and just there's going to be a few years here before we can make a complete judgment on his tenure well and after less than a full year in pittsburgh do you think he's hitting the rebuild button no that's that's why i yeah they're not rebuilding they're coming back and the other the other thing i would say for penguins fans that i don't know if this gives you comfort or not but

I want to talk about the Leafs game on Saturday night. The Leafs are on their mandated union break for five days, so we don't have another Leaf game until Thursday. But what I did want to mention, there's a couple of things. The first thing is the lineup decision. And people are like, oh, don't overplay this. Like, it's not a big deal. I'm having an issue, and I've had an issue with this since Mike Babcock,

of the Leafs not dressing their best six defensemen. And, you know, of the eight regular Leafs defensemen since the all-star break timothy lilligren is last in expected goals or like most most against labushkin's number one and i and i realize it's it's somewhat of a smaller sample size but i do think at this time of year you do have to look at the smaller sample sizes and go what are we trending towards the playoffs are entirely small samples simone benoit has come in earned his spot in the lineup is he victor headman no but he's a he's a useful piece on a thin defense and the Leafs decide, you know what?

I'm sorry. You were not born shooting the correct way. So guy who is, eye test and numbers wise, not been great. I don't think he's the worst defenseman we've ever seen, but I think he's not been great. And he admitted that in an interview a couple of games ago. I haven't been right. Which is great.

I respect that. Self-accountability. I just wonder, just to get Joel Edmondson in the lineup, did you have to pull Simon Benoit?
