Starting point is 00:02:10 happened on the exact same day nine years apart sod for panarin sod for panarin happened june 23rd 2017 see sometimes you know the negative nantes sitting next to me always take the negative side things you know they always lean into what they are and you should look at this you should look at this as you did a whole video about how it sucks yeah i know thank you for answering the question there's garbage policing no this is back to back what is it how long was it eight years nine nine years 2017 to 20 to 20 wow nine years after he did the fleecing the first time yarmo kekalini does it again this is yes a celebration of the trade master not a dumping on chicago you know what we should be celebrating yarmo because he made both of these trades and
Starting point is 00:03:09 that's fucking insane and you know what's great too all the fame trading you know what's great two gets yarmo has one good trade a decade and this is it it's amazing all right now now back to the regularly scheduled program this is the first time he that that a team knowingly traded a top five pick in 18 years right uh they've been traded but plenty of teams have been stupid and done it by accident the leafs stutzla and also yeah the leafs yeah but for reference the chicago blackhawks during the conor bedard era his elc have not finished higher than 31st oh can you give us that player the top five traded pick you should know it wait which luke shen 2008 that's when the leafs uh swapped the pick oh they got the pick yeah sorry i thought you were talking
Starting point is 00:03:55 about tyler sagan no they didn't know i guess actually no they did at the time no no like when they made the kessel trade they didn't know they were giving up the second overall pick but when they acquired the fifth overall pick for luke shen they didn't know that's the 2008 that's the last time it happened right yeah it's a luke shen so leafs always involved so again for reference the chicago blackhawks have not finished higher than 31st for the entirety of conor bedard's entry-level contract which has expired for those who do not remember and this is where i find fans uh like i'm like i know how old you are because people were like excuse me because i called stan bowman a not great general manager because he's not and people are like he won three
Starting point is 00:04:35 cups what the fuck are you talking about and i'm like yeah when you step into a loaded ferrari that's already warmed up, you probably can just manage to keep the wheels on for a few years. But eventually you got to change tires and you got to change head gaskets and you got to put brakes on the thing. And Stan Bowman's team truly
Starting point is 00:04:52 was the post-2015 team where Taze and Kane were starting to make $10.5 million. Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook were starting to fall off and he was not able to keep it together. $10.5 back then was a lot of money. In a $70, $65 million cap era, right?
Starting point is 00:05:08 For those who do not remember, let me give it to you. June 2017, the 23rd of June, blockbuster trade, Artemi Panarin from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Brandon Saad. In addition, Tyler Mott and a sixth rounder also went to Columbus. Tyler Mott. Tyler Mott, who was a player. He was very much a thing.
Starting point is 00:05:30 He was Panarin, Mott, and a sixth. Mott never quite hit what we thought he could be, but he had a career. and uh anton forsberg who turned out to be pretty good goalie from time to time uh and a fifth round pick went to chicago now sod went on to play three more seasons with the blackhawks he had 220 games 62 goals 106 points nine playoff games in that time five points since the trade including his entire career and he was in the stanley cup finals this year with the vegas golden knights 297 points in 616 games since that trade which is half a point a game good respectable it is guy Artemi Panarin played two seasons with the Blackhawks.
Starting point is 00:06:09 He played almost every game, 160 games, 55 goals, 169 points. Already, he's had 66 playoff games since the trade, 56 points in those. And since the trade, Panarin has played 668 games, 269 goals, 803 points. It is the worst trade of the cap era, and every year it gets worse. Easily the worst trade of the 2010s. And at the time, people defended it. Adam hates this thing. It's by far my greatest take.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Now, honorable mention for this, also involving Chicago, the last time he said, Mark Lazarus said, the last time it was gobsmacked like this, it was Phil Deneau in a second rounder for Thomas Fleischman and Dale Weiss. Which I did a trade tree for. That's right. Yes. Not great.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Now, the potential runner-up is Chicago acquiring Bowen Byram yesterday, along with jordan greenway for the buffalo fourth oh sorry for the from buffalo for the fourth overall pick uh the 45th pick and crevier uh who is a right shot six foot eight monster louis crevier can i tell you how far off i was on this because this trade trickled right it was oh uh bowen byram's going to the blackhawks and oh the fourth overall picks involved when it was Byram's going to the Blackhawks and the fourth overall pick is involved I was like oh I wonder which one of Buffalo's young players is going to Chicago I bet it's like I don't know Jack Quinn or something like Bowen Byram Jack Quinn for a package that includes the fourth overall pick
Starting point is 00:07:46 that's a seismic deal yes huge big deal but if it's Byram Quinn for the fourth the 45th in crevier what's the conversation like today it's a risk for both teams there's lots of risk involved but and like some teams are going to be like oh that's a fleece for chicago or that's a fleece for buffalo but it's a lot closer to even fourth plus the 45th plus crevier and you're taking on greenways cap hit salary dump and what everyone's left on the floor with regard to this deal is buffalo was screwed they were in cap hell not really cap hell but it was going to be difficult with their rfas right here's what they were standing down the barrel staring down the barrel of they have zach benson who's an rfa i forgot to mention in my video yesterday peyton krebs
Starting point is 00:08:45 is an rfa and he played all up and down the lineup and he's a good player and he's going to get paid not as much as benson but he's going to get paid and then i assume they would like a world where they might be able to keep alex tuck but they only have like 11 or 12 million dollars to do that this morning they have 21.3 million dollars plus most of last year's sabers plus the fourth overall pick and holy hell let me throw this at you guys the buffalo sorry the the the blackhawks side of this is remember i told you the this blackhawks have not finished higher than 31st in the conor bedard era that's quite bad this trade leaves them with no first round picks this year and i got i got to ask the question has chicago retained the same pro scouts from 2017
Starting point is 00:09:40 are you allowed to keep your job after keeping the sodom panarin trade because man it looks like you can now it's important to remember too kyle davidson came up through the ranks understand bowman and was his assistant general manager like that was when bowman was moved out in 2021 kyle davidson was the one that they that they ended up hiring he was an internal hire and obviously the hockey images that precede unfortunate events posted that remember they Eric Tulsky could have been the GM, but they decided to go internal. What makes this worse, according to LeBron, Pierre LeBron, that is, is that even though it's illegal, I think, for Byron to sign an extension until July 1st, nothing has been
Starting point is 00:10:19 worked out anyway. And this is a Darren Ferris client. It could be one of the most expensive RFA signings we've seen for a defenseman, for a 25-point defenseman. I got terrible news for you. And here's the deal, Steve, which you pointed out in your video. he is a year from ufa his agent created this situation on purpose to get his client the max amount of money and you think he's giving you a discount because oh i don't think they think that
Starting point is 00:10:48 they can't no i don't think they do no but they hope it and that's what fans do is we hope right true that's our job uh so like you could look at this deal and be like all right well here's how it could be great for them is if you know he signs for he's making six and a quarter i think he signs for eight times six and a quarter and now all of a sudden you have bowen byron for this sweetheart deal or even if it's like eight or nine or he's gonna get double digits he's gonna get potentially more than owen power and more than rasmus dahlin yep and it's bowen byron yep like blackhawks fans who are like all right uncle we get it like the the blackhawks are better today than they were yesterday i think i think that's more than fair
Starting point is 00:11:40 sure but that's insane value it's like going i i equate it to going to your your favorite restaurant ordering your favorite meal and finding out the price is now five thousand dollars like why oh you don't like lasagna from lamanas or whatever well no it's not that i don't like lasagna from lamanas it's that it's now five thousand dollars it's not worth that price yeah and it's crazy because we have the bar for what the price should be for beau byram and that's casey middlestad which was a very reasonable deal that was done not too long ago and everyone was like yeah that's a pretty good swap because that's about what beau byram is worth Would you trade today Casey Middlestat for the fifth overall pick?
Starting point is 00:12:27 I'd egg your house. No, you wouldn't because that's not reasonable. And Bo Byram's game hasn't changed much. It's so weird that you go after this player who's never been a number one defenseman on his team. And the argument that people are trying to make for the case that maybe he can grow into it is that he was stuck behind all of the great D in Buffalo and he was stuck behind Cale McCarr in Colorado. but if those teams believe that they have a guy who's going to be near that level you hang on to that talent you keep them and you develop him and because he's going to be the next one in line there you don't just throw that you don't just swap that for casey middle stat and he's had
Starting point is 00:13:05 significant injuries if i'm not mistaken including concussions enormous enormous risk for chicago well i just don't get it so sorry and i said fifth overall pick fourth overall so oh my god speaking of good d jesse um i want to know what i'm just just making a joke uh what is have you ever seen somebody turn a player like casey middlestead into a fourth overall pick because that's what buffalo did yeah that's it that's what that's the kevin adams yarmo tag team yeah last episode at the end of it we went over how mike greer uh got paid to take on jake wallman and then flip Jaip Walman for a first round pick that he then swapped again to acquire.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Why is his name escaping me? The defenseman from Buffalo that he just got. Oh, Michael Kessler. Michael Kessler. You can be forgiven. There's been 18 trades in the last like three days. Do a Kessler ring video. You did it.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Jesse did. I did. All right. No, I did. Did I? I don't even know. Yes, I did. I did.
Starting point is 00:14:09 I did the Kessler ring video. I forgot which one of us did it. This was so much happened. Yesterday in my Byram video, I was like, I've shot three videos today. This one, the Eklund one, and I forgot what the first one I shot was. And it was Nemech to counter. There's been a million big trades. Anyways, apologies to the Kesselring family.
Starting point is 00:14:29 So Mike Greer makes that swap. But you look at this one. This is just as impressive, if not more, because this is Casey Middlestat for the fourth overall pick. A one-for-one deal nobody would make. and we have to have serious discussions about kyle davidson's terrible tenure as general manager of the blackhawks he doesn't have a hit on his hand no no i don't like any of the moves he's made they've been struggling you pointed out they haven't been above 30 first place in his entire tenure and there's been no growth with the sharks were last year was unbelievable we finally saw the
Starting point is 00:15:04 growth and here they've been looking for somebody to play along bedard they've been struggling to find that specific position and you have an opportunity to take someone at fourth overall and they punt on it to go get the defenseman that they're kind of missing and they get a guy who's maybe not ever going to be that defenseman because nobody really projects him to be that defenseman and he has never been that defense the the argument for him is well he was stuck behind kael mccarr well he was stuck behind owen power and rasmus dolling there can be a reason why yeah well those and i'm not saying those things do happen they do happen sure and i'm not saying but but the knife cut cuts both ways if you want to make that argument you can also say
Starting point is 00:15:43 yeah because he's not better than them yeah and those are two of the best defensemen in the world three well power power runs the power well first overall pick and i think he's gonna get better yeah um but i mean doleen is dope amazing and macar is macar when you are trading the fourth overall pick you need an assurance of what you're getting in return because you can be pretty solid that you're going to get it's going to be a young talent whose ceiling is super high who knows if that's going to work out but you need to know what you're getting back is going to be what exactly you need and Bo Byram sorry but he's still a question mark I think you're right and you also don't have them past this season that's even crazier on top of all this it's not even a young
Starting point is 00:16:28 player who signed seven years and you're getting and at least an agreement that you're going to have the chance to develop him you don't have that agreement from him yet can i with the agent that steve is a huge fan of who knows if you're gonna get that can i can i say this the price for paying the fourth overall pick should have been the deal already in place so if on july 1st the deals had the deal happens and it's done uh then fine okay that's that you paid the price to talk to the agent ahead of time get the deal done and then july i know they're not supposed to negotiate till july 1st but let's not pretend tampering doesn't happen all the time american teams are tampering the hell out of canadian teams right now we all know that so let's just let's all cut
Starting point is 00:17:07 the bullshit fine they talked maybe they got a deal no no brady kachuk going to florida had nothing to do with his brother yeah no for sure yeah man those we'll get i feel genuinely bad if it's so like it is some of the most embarrassing clips i've ever seen but anyway in the meantime i i think yes it does make chicago better okay so let's say Bo Byram has a 70-point season, okay? That'd be very, very good. Chicago might move all the way up to 24th in the league. Spencer Knight's a great pickup.
Starting point is 00:17:37 I liked that trip. Yeah, no, that's very good. And he was very good for them. Frank Nazer had a great start to last season, got injured, but Dart had a great start, got injured in December. Neither of those two guys are the same. Frindell is a guy that people really like.
Starting point is 00:17:51 There are players on this team that eventually... Kantsarov, Lardis. there but they haven't done it right and so i think i think what also happened with bow and byram here and because i don't think anything happens in a vacuum like we look at it's like when we were talking about uh the connor murphy re-signing and the jason dickinson re-signing to be honest based on what dickinson would have got on the open market what murphy would have got on the open market those are two objectively good or re-signees however when you have jari and trent frederick making what they're making and contributing next to nothing then people start
Starting point is 00:18:27 to get pissed off right nothing happens in a vacuum when darren radish came off the board beau byron became the best defenseman available via trade and i and and now does that mean that oh morgan riley's right there does that well name one i just wanted to say that to adam and see how he reacted come on i'm not even going to react to that you know like like simon nemich obviously was you know went yesterday and we'll talk about him but Nemech hasn't proved it yet right he's he's fast he's he's fascinating player with all the tools but you know you look at the player cards and you look at whatever and there's a lot of warts to the game and he's 22 my point is Byram is a is the best player available entering his potential prime uh that Yarmou read the market
Starting point is 00:19:12 perfectly and also got the GM who's most likely to get fleeced fleeced it's it's a perfect combination find out who the bad gms are call them all the time yeah yeah yarmo and if he yarmo if he wins the norris next year that's the only way where i feel like okay maybe maybe this is fair value i don't think anyone's calling bowen byram a bad player no not at all i just said he was the best one available besides besides radish he's a great player yeah young plays both sides uh can do kind of everything yep i think he's a really good player fourth overall is nuts it's also nice to see a top five pick traded like we see traded in the nba and nfl all the time part of me is like let's praise him so that teams do it more yeah can i present a scenario that i
Starting point is 00:19:59 was going over in my head and i was like if i'm if i'm general manager of an nhl team and i'm kyle davidson i'm sitting on this i'd probably go this route as opposed to what he chose in real life bo byram is going to be a ufa at right now at the end of the 2027 season yep right agents and gms they never talk they never chit chat all the time why not make a difference to darren ferris that you're gonna pay the crazy amount that he wants in free agency at the end of next season and then do that for free and wait a year because clearly there is some gap in Chicago where they're happy with what Kyle Davidson's doing
Starting point is 00:20:43 and they're giving him some time. If you're not great next year or if you find different ways to get better throughout this season, like good for you. And at the end of next season, if Bo Byron is the guy you want, you just go get him in free agency. Right.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Why not make that side deal, that handshake agreement with Darren Ferris and a year later you give him that contract and then you still have the fourth overall pick, a second round pick and a second round pick and your prospect. You know what? Jesse's cooking.
Starting point is 00:21:11 And that's why you won a Stanley Cup championship in, what was it, NHL 24? Yes. That's why you won a Stanley Cup championship. Listen, Jesse. Is that not an option for him? It should be. It's a great option.
Starting point is 00:21:25 And now I have to wonder if part of kyle davidson's strategy is he believes in the magic of birthdays is he going to have an incredible birthday this year or is he going to have a very sad birthday next year because do you know when kyle davidson's birthday is when is it it's july 1st oh hey that's same as my mom canada today baby july 1st 1988 man he says he's younger than us i'm so deeply depressed i'm so sad let's talk about john chica who's also younger than us so could i have waited till his next birthday to just acquire beau byron and then you let somebody else pay for the year of beau like this next coming season if somebody actually want to take him off of buffalo's hand
Starting point is 00:22:13 maybe they prefer pay for that and then you sign him next year jesse you're asking all the right questions and it's it's such a nonsensical decision even though byron's a good player it's such a nonsensical decision that it's making me go like are the bedard negotiations going poorly like is he like go out and get me someone right now i don't give a shit about the tiny child you're about to draft that doesn't i want to be good now we suck yeah we suck how many more years are we gonna do this and if your superstar is miserable it does matter um but like i don't know like it's been whispered about like oh yeah he's an offer sheet candidate i just don't think that's real no they have too much cap space for anybody that's 30 million dollars yeah now yeah
Starting point is 00:23:06 that's after a quite they acquired 10 million bucks some odd i think that's a silly conversation and a half yeah now you don't want to sign him to a shitty deal but maybe uh you know okay mcdavid signed for 12.5 million dollars for two years why on earth would he do that the answer is we just went to back-to-back stanley cup finals and i think if i sign this deal we can win great chicago goes to conor bedard and they go let we want to sign you to i'm pulling a number out of my bum everyone we want to sign you to it was stinky it's gross stinky number oh my okay let's get a different number uh out of my pocket this one's a lot more sanitary that's better i'm pulling a number out of my pocket conor bedard 14 million dollars for eight years and conor bedard goes
Starting point is 00:23:56 no what 14 million makes you very highly paid yeah i could get more though but don't you like it here do you want me to be honest no i like winning and we're not doing that here yeah yeah you don't like chicago oh chicago's fine hey deep dish three stuff yeah um i like the history of the giant fire yeah that bull thing was the bull the bean yeah oh my god we all love the bean he called it a bull thing the but no isn't there a bull and then also a bean uh are you thinking no i'm thinking about the wall street yeah yeah my bad testicles that sorry wall street yeah different giant american cities but chicago's got the bean yeah yeah they got the bean i can see him totally being like i want to win and there's some pressure on davidson he makes this move and it's
Starting point is 00:24:53 the wrong move uh connor we want you to sign a reasonable deal with the blackhawks literally why no you gotta take the money just take the money if they're no yeah no no no if you're connor yeah this is what i'm saying though deal i want 14 million or they want 14 million worth of panera like for me to sign with your yeah shitty shitty so shitty hockey team i want 18 million dollars a year you stink turbo dog shit and some people are going to be like listen uh you're a leaf fan die and my response to that is don't worry you'll get your wish eventually but also the chicago blackhawks that stat is the most depressing thing i've ever heard yeah but dard's elc the blackhawks never finished higher than second last it's brutal and no first
Starting point is 00:25:51 round picks this year i guess they don't care so they got enough on their roster i can almost sympathize with them being desperate it's still insanely poor value yeah of course but you got to get it done like even crevier i'm like dude like here's here's my he's one of those prospects where i'm like if you show me a chart on him i'm gonna give you a wedgie don't be a nerd he's six foot eight 230 and cranks the puck he vaporizes the thing i don't want to see anything don't tell me nothing andy's a righty get that put that chart up your nose i don't give a damn he's beef to bring that back i love it it's fun and you know why i also don't pay attention to his charts or anything we got the fourth overall pick which they might not hang on to yeah well this is the
Starting point is 00:26:50 next part of the conversation they don't need it at all move that thing go get something to make you even better right now because this is a really good hockey team i believe who they were since the kevin adams firing like i think they're going to come back and be that similar team who won the atlantic so you should flip that and go get more devil's advocate the sabers have kind of a window here you're gonna need some talented cost certainty that's true you have the opportunity to get okay i don't think it's likely but it's possible a player like iver stenberg is available at two or sorry we expect him to be available at two he could be available at four yeah what if you get iver stenberg on an elc for three years yeah no that's a good point or uh you know
Starting point is 00:27:35 now all of a sudden you have a bow and byram size hole in your lineup uh carson carrolls here you go just slide them right in i think chase reed i think what you're outlining is the value of the fourth overall pick and why nobody ever trades yeah no the blackhawks are insane i'm sorry i don't know if either of those guys gonna play this year we don't know but going forward you have that that guy certainty at like so little money for a guy who might be really good in the nhl in year two or three yeah like like oh even if they like disaster slide a year like the sabers aren't no i don't think they're going anywhere no not in the immediate future here's what you could do you draft someone crazy they slide a year uh and you use the space
Starting point is 00:28:25 you have now to go out and get yeah someone else nuts without spending the fourth because chicago also took jordan greenway which freed up nine million dollars total for the buffalo sabers because they need living breathing human beings to play for their team and like who is signing there chicago yeah tyler bertuzzi who is signing there this year like you're there for i mean the bag's there holy shit what a bag yep you can get money i think oh my god i don't you can hear me trying to be like but i can't do it i can't it's not yeah yeah byram could be uh the best trade acquisition the blackhawks have had in a very long time and that's that value is still not based in reality that we know on earth even if
Starting point is 00:29:31 it works out it doesn't mean at the time it was a good deal it's a terrible value for that yeah and i just so but like so then my question would be chicago does have other trade ships right like when i talked to ian olin about uh from russian machine about about the the caps thing he said that the deal we made for cairo that was our big trade ship right that was what we had the first and and mcmichael um and we'll talk about that trade coming up the the sabers sabers blackhawks have an opportunity here where they have some young guys if they do want to speed up the timeline just a little bit i mean this is a seller's market you have players that people want you could go out trade another you know one of your bigger prospects and find a guy that maybe fits bedard's
Starting point is 00:30:14 timeline a little bit i'm kind of buying what you're selling because like you've projected a few times adam like the cap is going up insanely and not every team in the years to come is going to spend to the cap this year might not be a problem then there's next year because it's going up like what nine mil and then what about the year after that well another 10 like there are like to be to just so everybody understands the 105.5 that they have is a depressed value yes meaning that in a couple of years when they redo the calculations every player in the league is going to get a big fat check written by the owners because the cap is under what it should be we are not even there this year on what it should be the cap is going to go up 30 percent in the next three
Starting point is 00:30:58 years barring an international crisis that brings down the economy or a pandemic right you know and we've we said so it's like 50 50 yeah yeah fair enough but you know nhl's hrr is exploding right i mean out of the about four years ago it was six billion people like whoa six billion it's now eight billion it's going up by roughly half a billion a year and then we find out yesterday that there are exploratory talks with um uh you know a team in texas right houston or austin and you know the with the with the the the tag which um so just to buy the franchise buy-in alan's been saying for years it's going to be 1.5 billion looks like it's actually 2 billion and it looks like the owner the the arena wrapped into that is another billion billion and a half so they're saying it's a 3.5
Starting point is 00:31:46 billion dollar package yeah betman said it's three and a half billion which is slightly fibbing yeah he's lying he's fibbing it's about two billion he crunched the numbers to make him look a lot and and what's hilarious about that is that that's not hockey related revenue the players do not share in that but every team in the league does so every owner is going to get like a what is it a 30 or 40 no maybe a 50 million dollar check 60 million dollar check 100 million i think well it'd be don't make me no no no two billion is that's 20 so you probably they're gonna get like 11 billion a lot of money they're getting a lot of money yeah but the the three billion like you gotta cut off like the million of that that's gonna go directly to the arena building so they're
Starting point is 00:32:27 probably getting oh oh two billion split see gary got me yeah that's what he did with the number i'm gonna get you gare bear i'm gonna get you he lumped in the arena which is a lie and the salary cap by the way 104 million next year 26 27 113.5 27 28 and then it's projected to be in 28 29 123 and then from there it can always adjust down or up as they see fit at the end of the years but those are the the numbers on the cap there's definitely an argument to the blackhawks just go and screw it and throw in their financial weight around for sure yeah uh they have the It still doesn't justify this trade. They designed every free agent at once.
Starting point is 00:33:06 Oh, my God. It's crazy, isn't it? Oh, my God. Scott Lawton, eight times eight. Get your bag, Scotty. Like, I don't know, man. I don't know. It's so weird to see a trade where we all seem pretty united in Bowen Byram is a very, very good player.
Starting point is 00:33:28 I am unsure. You added an extra very there. i'm unsure i think very good okay so very good player sure but not very very sure i'm gonna go with be a number one defenseman for a game okay okay i season i should be nicer yeah very it's half a very sure one and a half very good players and we're still like this trade is an abomination yeah it's crazy sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor
Starting point is 00:34:07 to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows oh and they're way around on that it's like well it's a patio window you can do that yourself and i'm like well hang on a second what if i don't want to i don't have the stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the washer thing chemicals you gotta have the right chemicals see what i'm saying And that's why I used TaskRabbit and I employed a tasker. Starting point is 00:36:04 A&W locations in Ontario Let's talk about the Calgary Flames Picking up Who I believe will be their future power play quarterback And people are Like, what about Zayn Perek? They already got Zayn Perek. I'm like, hmm.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Listen, I don't know if you guys know this, but there's been tension between the Flames and Zayn Perek. They're not happy with, they were not happy with the comments he made going into camp last year or World Juniors or whatever the hell it was because it's not hockey man shit, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:34 So we'll get to that in a second. But Darren Haynes, who is a, you just writes about the Flames sometimes on Twitter, said perspective on the Simon Nemech edition, uh Owen Nolan first overall Quebec 1990 uh is the last top two NHL draft pick to play for Calgary Owen Nolan played for Calgary that was 19 years ago he was 35 oh he was a flame the late Mel Bridgman was a first overall pick by Philadelphia in 1975
Starting point is 00:37:05 was 26 at the time he was the youngest so the the only because remember Calgary's never drafted top two no and huberdo's a third overall pick so nemish belonging to them nemish is the second overall pick he played oh and nolan first overall pick andre is azurin uh joined the flames at 28 he was number two in 1996 roman hamillick was the number one pick joined the flames in 0506 he was great there uh rob ramage former leaf joined the flames in 87 88 and mel bridgman so i thought that is an interesting stat now the actual trade is Nemech and Maxim Siplykov uh for a conditional 27 first round pick by the way it's top 10 protected a conditional 28 first round pick so that's Vegas's first round pick next year Colorado's first round pick in 28 both are top 10
Starting point is 00:37:53 protected a 26 second round pick from New York Rangers and a prospect named Etienne Morin and as I mentioned both first rounders are top 10 protected and you know Simon Nemech is an interesting guy because you know the player cards floating around are not exactly great but here's a guy who was you know under luke hughes and dougie hamilton in the new jersey defense they've really yo-yoed him they have yeah and drew producer drew added some value to the conversation he was not shit posting when he wrote blind squirrel finds nuts simon nemich led the entire olympic tournament in scoring chance contributions among d-man playing 23 minutes a game for slovakia he said the flames got a stud instantly will be their number one power play qb um and beyond that eric
Starting point is 00:38:38 francis uh was at the craig conroy press conference yesterday and here's what craig conroy had to say he said when you get a 22 year old right shot defenseman that was second overall in the draft and he's on the upswing that's something we ought we had to target we paid a big price two first round picks in a second but that's why you get those uh the key for me was keeping our own picks when you look at vegas and colorado they're good teams so those picks are going to be later in the draft and we felt like to get a player of that caliber it was worth putting all of these things in to get him now steve you did the video and you mentioned this too right they are picks that we expect to be potentially 25 or lower yeah like nuance and specifics matter oh man we got two
Starting point is 00:39:20 firsts for this player whoa um it's what is it vegas's pick next year vegas just went to the Stanley Cup final. We agree they're a pretty good team. Yeah. Yeah. And Colorado, in two years, they just won the President's Trophy. They went to the Western Conference Final,
Starting point is 00:39:37 lost to Vegas. Do we agree they're a pretty good team? Yeah, they're a pretty good team. Yeah. Now, a Colorado fall-off would be interesting, especially for Leaf fans, on account of we have their
Starting point is 00:39:47 2027 first-round pick. But they had the foresight to protect it. And both of these picks are protected? Yes. Top 10. So if Colorado or Vegas fall off, they're fine.
Starting point is 00:39:57 they get the pick but then the next year it's unprotected yes that's right yeah but now you're just kicking the can further down the road and it's it's magic beans and then it's magic beans that are actually like even further away than the magic beans originally appeared at your feet um it's good it can help you you can get good players in the 20s but you're optimistically getting two first round picks in the 20s which means those picks are probably not in your lineup until roughly 2030 so are you underwhelmed by the return for new jersey considering they're trying to win now yeah i am okay um like i don't at this point i don't know what to make of this draft class does everyone think it's great or does everyone think it's garbage like do do does
Starting point is 00:40:57 everyone is everyone trying to acquire picks or are teams going get rid of these friggin things i'm under the impression it's a very good draft class so maybe new jersey should hang on to them or i don't know they could go out and get a guy like bowen pyrom but if you were to tell me fourth overall picks available who are you more willing to trade the fourth overall pick for simon nemich second overall pick 2022 or bowen byram fourth overall pick 2019 neither i i want the fourth overall pick this year i like your answer to be honest now in calgary's uh defense uh that wasn't on the table for them they didn't trade the fourth or no pick for him i like what calgary gave up for him um but nemish is about to sign an insane deal it sounds like a
Starting point is 00:41:54 deal that he frankly hasn't earned like it's purely based on potential and apparently he wants the plus 10 million he wants double digits yeah what a lot yeah do i think he'll be worth that one day sure uh i don't know i don't know now people you just gave up assets so you just gave up assets so you better that's the other thing about like being that player's agent it's like yeah so you think my client's pretty gosh darn good yeah so he's about to get over 10 byron i think is about to get over 10 maybe this is where the adjustment comes in because we're talking about freaking out about uh the prices that we're going to see in free agency uh i i think it's already here yeah we're about to see them in restricted free agency i you know calgary again
Starting point is 00:42:45 sort of like chicago they got better right away i think they're better um not i think they are they're better clearly better their right side is now something along the lines of like nemish white cloud pakal and parekh and you could trade parekh you could keep parekh you could i'm sure white cloud probably has crazy value um it's great news there i think it's a fantastic deal for calgary yeah i agree yeah i'm somewhat underwhelmed by the return for new jersey and i think no matter what it's probably a disappointing outcome for the devils and this is this is not sunny meta's fault they spent a second overall pick on this player and he's like i think eighth in the draft class and games played he's he's not even first amongst defensemen that's pavel
Starting point is 00:43:42 minchikov um he's never averaged 20 minutes a game over the course of a season right well i think that's something he's capable but the reason that the the the let's just be straight the reason that that happened is because a they had the depth b they tanked his value by not playing him in those moments right yeah you know you had dougie hamilton you had luke hughes maybe they weren't expecting luke hughes to be as good as he was and then to have to assign him to the extension that they had to sign him to before training camp last year but yeah but then then they they tanked his value in that he was brutal luke hughes yeah he was yeah brutal yeah but now he's signed and listen you're still trying to get quinn aren't you so i don't know or you just have jack who is on one of the
Starting point is 00:44:23 best contracts in the league sure i just think that people at the time are like is that i doubt new jersey is looking at this and going we're going to trade the or so we're going to keep these i think they're looking at this is that's trade deadline fodder for them and they have a lot of money coming off the books after this season it's fascinating it's such a good draft class but everyone seems to want to win now including teams that have no realistic path to doing that. Yep. Like Chicago.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Yep. But there's a lot of money on this. Like, there's a ton of money on this roster. Like, Siegenthaler, 3.4. Kovacevic, 4 million for the next four years. And Sheldon Keefe
Starting point is 00:44:54 doesn't even like him. Brendan Dillon, one more year at four. Brett Pesci, four more years at five and a half. Luke Hughes, nine million forever.
Starting point is 00:45:02 Dougie Hamilton, two more years. And listen, I'm not surprised Sonny Mehta likes Dougie Hamilton. I don't think there were very many reasons not to like Dougie Hamilton.
Starting point is 00:45:10 But if you like analytics, You especially like that guy. You're getting the two last years of his potential prime. Just keep him. But then you look further up the roster. Nason, Glass, Bukestad all expiring at the end of this season. Nico Huescher's contract's got to be redone. I think what you do is you're trying to figure out,
Starting point is 00:45:31 is this like Connor Brown's got a bit of a whopper, $3 million for the next few years, but that won't be so bad as the cap goes up. I think they've got a ton of flexibility, especially going into next summer do you not look at this and go okay let's deal those picks we could deal them now and find somebody who's like 25 26 that fits the Meyer Hughes Jesper Brat Nico Heischer window and I feel like they probably want to add a forward I don't think they need anything on defense um they also got to make a decision and goal like is Markstrom
Starting point is 00:46:01 whose name's been out there a guy that they're going to hang on to yeah no please no are you putting the picks and Markstrom as a part of a deal that's interesting you know like I think this gives them a ton of flexibility i don't if you're looking at this as oh you new jersey's going to use those picks and draft i think there's a reason why they're not this year i think they're next year and the year after i look at them a little bit like uh the islanders uh from last year so last year remember i so i picked them to finish last in the metro but i had i had a reason for it and a number of things needed to happen and they didn't happen and i'm okay with that but what I saw is this is going to be a team that is going to be in the fight and
Starting point is 00:46:42 then they're going to dip out of it and then they're going to sell. And they had all these expiring deals and I'm like, Oh my God, they're going to get picks for this guy and this guy and this guy. I look at that Puckpedia page for New Jersey and I see the same thing unless they find a way to be good. The Islanders kind of fell into the perfect no man's land where they were competitive all the way up until they weren't and then they missed here's a thought connor
Starting point is 00:47:08 hellebuck's name's out there oh to the devils new jersey needs a goalie the devils need a goalie whose name starts with hell hell yeah that's actually oh my god there's the tweet right there they acquire them hell yeah oh that's good that's new jersey pulls off a hell of a deal yeah there it is hey just so uh because i think there's a little confusion in the conversation none of their picks that they acquired or for this draft that's what i mean oh yeah so like that's good they don't have to spend them like they won't be spending anything on friday so there's time for new jersey here it's a 27 pick and a 28 pick so they can sit on it and they don't have to really make decisions what do they have for this year just their own pick which is which pick uh the first round like
Starting point is 00:47:54 no i know that like where overall in the draft uh i pull up the draft 20 uh 12th overall 12th overall yeah that's a good player yeah hmm this is the best a like like let's just take a second this fun this is what we go hey every summer oh this summer could be interesting this could be spicy and then it's like oh this third liner was traded for a fourth and there was some retention this is unhinged yes it's great yesterday alone was great this is the the second overall pick from 2022 was traded uh the seventh overall pick from 2021 was traded um uh the fourth overall pick from 2019 was traded for the fourth overall pick this year uh and then what was the one you did oh my god the kairu tree yeah which we'll get to we'll get to we're gonna get it that was in a
Starting point is 00:48:58 day you're basically just lining up the trades that we're talking about i know but like that i just needed to take a little aside to be like this freaking rocks and it doesn't sound like we're done by a long shot william ecklund to ottawa for the ninth overall pick um it the actual full trade is uh ottawa gets william ecklund casper halton and uh the rights to brandon svoboda uh for the 2026 first pick from the san jose shark sorry from the ottawa senators to the san jose sharks but it originally was the florida panthers pick which they uh traded to ottawa in the brady kachuk deal so ottawa still has two picks in the first round i believe it's something in the early 20s and then obviously they have that that 32 pick that they can't trade but
Starting point is 00:49:41 they were awarded for ripping off the golden knights for so nice that ottawa got that back and they're not allowed to trade it and this pick that uh was traded here by florida was originally chicago's pick and then florida got it back because it fell in the top 10 so chicago's still gonna get a pick later hilarious so it actually went florida chicago florida ottawa san jose and then wasn't great wasn't there some contention there i thought i saw a blackhawks fan sweeten about it like yeah because there was confusion on the actual deal when it was announced if it actually was top 10 protection is that what you're referring to yes and like kyle buddy yeah oh this is all back to kyle davidson kyle
Starting point is 00:50:26 no you walked into the one year where florida's bad yeah and you didn't even get that pick you're telling me you could have had the fourth and ninth pick and you fucked that up and you now have none of those things yeah you should not you should not let them top 10 protect no you should have been in those negotiations saying you're florida what do you need this top 10 protected like just give me this pick for cess jones and he fell you know he he fell in those negotiations to bill zito and he said no you can top 10 protect it this is kind of underratedly the most tantalizing trade of yesterday because i look at both teams and i'm like what are you up to so ecklund replaces brady kachuk no like yeah who did none of us believe that no he's just a good player he's
Starting point is 00:51:21 a good player yeah and he does help fill that hole he's on people people saying by the way that they're like oh he only had 53 points in 78 games i'm like guys this guy's a good player rocks what are you talking about he's also still a child yeah 23 he's gonna grow into a better player his plus minus is a war crime but like other than that san jose yeah yeah they haven't had the greatest time he he puts up points playmaking winger 5.3 million dollars still so young like that's good and also haltonen is a guy like he's gonna play games for the ottawa senators um and like potentially this upcoming season uh big guy good on the power play ohhl champion i think memorial cup champion no career games yet but no get up there eventually no no good ahl
Starting point is 00:52:15 numbers with the barracuda and then brandon's favota is the only guy where i'm like okay that's a straight up future because he's in university and if i'm not mistaken has two years remaining and it's just his rights but like looks fine looks fine even if he doesn't pan out halton and and ecklund is pretty good apparently a big glue guy people love him i love that i really like william ecklund as a person and as a player i think it's a really good acquisition by ottawa because i think ottawa has a really good core right now and i think who they were analytically last year is actually who they are and that the goaltending sunk them early in the season and when the goaltending turned around they looked really good and then their entire defense score
Starting point is 00:52:59 went down for a month and they were playing yeah hl's defense there and then they come up against the best team in the league i think and nobody thinks anybody's close to carolina now that we see how the playoffs played out and that's what they had to play in the first round so if they got better play like throughout the entire season maybe they're in a position where they don't play carolina in that first round and they don't have to go up against that and they win a couple rounds and everything in the season kind of looks different so i don't think they're in a position to rebuild and getting ecklund here sustains kind of your window and it actually extends it because he's younger than kachuk and now you can still make some more moves to supplement the offense
Starting point is 00:53:33 like i think i think ottawa's heading down the right path with this trade yeah i think so too i like it for ottawa and who got a ton of futures for brady and they parlayed it into now and futures this is what you ask teams well you kind of like speculate teams will always do yeah you know when they acquire you're always like oh they're gonna flip that yeah and there's a team who actually did it they could do this and then this and then this and now they're actually doing it doing the method hell yeah and now the sharks have the second and the ninth pick yeah i don't know if they're gonna use either of them i think they will but like okay here's how valuable that is listen the leafs are are picking first overall i don't think anything is going to change that
Starting point is 00:54:17 but let's have a fun conversation is the ninth overall pick enough would you trade second or would you trade the first overall pick for the second and the ninth well apparently san jose san jose is sec is is actually they have more pick value in this draft than even the leafs do oh i yeah 100 but they are the top two teams san jose has got the most and then toronto's with the second most yeah at least the first overall and then their next i think it depends on it depends on the year right if it's a connor mcdavid or a macklin year i don't think you can't all right well but if but if it's a what was it not he sure but who was the guy nolan patrick here maybe you go i'll consider that so like i don't know if he drops this far
Starting point is 00:55:04 maybe he does but like would you look would you do something like mckenna because you know who's going first yeah for stenberg and like verhoff because he could drop the knife yeah yeah man like the sharks could trade the second pick i think this makes it more likely that they will yeah they could trade the second pick and keep the ninth they could trade the ninth and keep the second they could trade both of them they're not done by a long shot and i know that for a fact yeah i mean they could even like imagine you know they could trade down and still have two two picks in the top 10 like there's still there's so much there just pick five times yeah i'm trying to acquire matthew nice if he's on the board that's a perfect fit for san jose absolutely
Starting point is 00:55:55 like that's where he should be going if you have all of this draft capital i don't know if chica wants like is nine or two like i don't know what's enough in there for chica to be like yeah that's this is the move but if if i'm just thinking about a perfect fits for san jose like nice is it heading into this season if you're like uh trade nice well first of all i would have told you no but then you go okay but you get the ninth overall pick for him i would have been like what the what what are you talking you get a top 10 pick for matthew nice all right and throw in tyler to foley please there's a right winger right shot who fits in the middle of the lineup you're not gonna get nice for toffoli and the second he's gonna you gotta know the knife i bet his dad'll
Starting point is 00:56:39 buy my book now he's uh his contract's a little heavy where i think it's 6.5 yeah but i feel like there's a winger who fits perfectly you would line up break sharks fans heart they already are upset about ecklund they love toffoli they love him yeah somebody suggested that to me on twitter like getting toffoli in a in a morgan riley deal i was gonna say and i was like that's a perfect fit for the Leafs there like if they can acquire that winner so if you're doing the nice deal instead if it's not Morgan who would also be great in San Jose just take all the Leafs San Jose I think like to fully be great coming back they have no decor and apparently the Leafs are listening on well obviously Riley that sounds imminent and we're going to talk about that uh
Starting point is 00:57:20 just a couple segments from now Jake McCabe is apparently let's just just don't go too deep in the Leafs but I'm doing it for the Sharks yeah like yeah uh you know or even Carlo which is obviously well and mario ferrero apparently mario ferrero apparently is not staying so you know and people by the way they're like oh ferrero's got dog shit numbers i'm like guys he's on the sharks yeah but even their fans are like nah no okay but well it's like oh man we surrounded him with timothy lilligren and dimitri orlov it gives me tremendous pause it's forget his numbers it gives me tremendous pause that the sharks have no defensemen and they're like take care mario yeah yeah that that gives me pause i think maybe in a different system i think they
Starting point is 00:58:05 put a little maybe it's just odd that uh wow you can't wait to get back to work next season on our uh decor yeah sure anyway man uh there's a luggage place up the street where like yeah i don't know it's interesting they can they'll figure it out the sharks are doing great business year they are i hope all off season i hope they move that second overall pick just for the i want to know what that's worth i want to know that's worth don't you want to know what that's bedard if a fourth is worth what that is celebrating oh my god david's it's like you're right i made a mistake with byram i must trade bedard now and byron and byron sharks end up with byron hey listen if you're traveling this summer and you don't want to get one of those weird

That's why every step and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, join thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk. Challenge yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of

And what better way than with a delicious Pratt Organic Coffee, starting at just $1 all day, every day, now until December 31st. You gotta try breakfast at A&W. At participating A&W locations in Ontario. All right. Jordan Cairo is a Washington Capitol. Did the video on this.
Starting point is 01:01:06 Talked to Ian Olin from Russian Machine Never Breaks. And he said, you know what? I think we paid a pretty high price for Cairo. But it's pretty exciting. uh he's got he signed for five more years which is important mcmichael was going to get a long-term deal and i don't really like that player me too they had the same amount of points last year they both had 45 um now this deal for me is 46 oh 46 excuse me stupid idiot uh first off jordan kairu is a 30 goal 70 point guy that's what we know he's also signed at a pretty respectable 8.125
Starting point is 01:01:36 for the next five years that's great that takes him through his entire prime you're good crazy skater uh mcmichael's not the play driver that kairu is and you got to remember st louis were ass last year they were so bad so it's it's i would expect his his production to jump but what stands out to me here are a couple of things first off we still don't really have confirmation that alexander ovechkin will be back we don't know that he's gone we know that he wasn't shaking hands on the way out like i'm leaving i think he's gonna be back but doesn't this make it much much more compelling that here's a very good play driving play maker who's going to find you all you do alex we just need you to stand still and wind up it yeah find you they definitely i mean you
Starting point is 01:02:18 want to win the stanley cup every year but uh this is them going you know what let's let's actually make some moves here let's go for it they have enough they've drafted really really well yep and they have enough guys on the right side of 30 that they can afford to make this deal it's a heavy price for kairu i really like mcmichael 16th overall pick is nothing to sneeze at milton gastron or gastron that's a guy that is very interesting as well his uh his numbers in sweden are very very good like this is not just some throw throw in well if you look at his numbers in sweden to quote steve dangle you don't know the swedish league uh but he was sixth highest scorer on his team with men and he had uh second highest scoring teenager on his team i believe
Starting point is 01:03:02 yeah and and he had uh what was it 25 something like that 25 30 points something like that the highest scoring player on the team had 35 points in 45 games the swedish elite league is low scoring so this is and the fact that the highest scoring player on his team had 14 goals and he had 10 i'm like this is a this is a player that people love and also in the uh they talk very highly of who he is as a person like he's not second overall sorry force of habit second round pick from last Yeah. Now, the other thing that really stands out to me about this deal, and I screwed up on my video, I was like, wow, the Blues have three first round picks, forgetting that they also have Colorado's pick first round pick this year. So they have the 11th, the 15th, the 16th and the 29th. Sir, one more time. They have the 11th, which is their own.
Starting point is 01:03:49 15th, which is Detroit. 16th, which is Washington. 29, which is Colorado. Okay. I don't know if it's going to be them. And maybe this is too high. Someone has to draft the Ruck twins. They are twins.
Starting point is 01:04:05 They are expected to go in the first round or pretty close to the first round. Someone has to do it. Yep. If they get drafted by different teams, I'm going to be so thrown off and upset. It's like a mustard stain on a perfect. No, they're twins. It should be law in all sports. The twins have to play together.
Starting point is 01:04:26 They'll reunite in Florida one day. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Are we clear? Adam, what was your assessment on where St. Louis is headed? I don't. So this is the thing with St. Louis, man. What's their brand?
Starting point is 01:04:41 And I said this in the video. I'm like, the question that they have not been able to answer since I think at least 21 or 22 is, what are you? If I roll into St. Louis, what am I afraid of? What do I got to manage? Respectfully, they're button mashing. They're just button mashing. And you got their Puckpedia page up there with all their draft picks.
Starting point is 01:05:03 Look at that. That's great. Four firsts, three thirds, two fourths, two fifths. Holy Toledo. look at that that's that's good you look at the kairu trade in a vacuum hey we got a decent first we got a great young player and a a prospect who could end up being pretty good for us great but at the end of the day all they're doing is like okay let's just do things that we think are good business and see where the chips land like there's not a ton of it's it's good to do good
Starting point is 01:05:40 things subjectively it's good to do things that are good for your team but what is the purpose what are you trying to be are you this kind of team are you that kind of team and like you can even break it down to what is your window i don't even know if they're trying to win like this is what i'm saying like is your window you don't you don't have to go for it every freaking year but is your window we want to be going for it by 2030 well they they also it we also found out today that because kairu was traded robert thomas is off the market so okay so it would suggest that they actually are trying to get better now because if they weren't then you would trade a toropchenko you would trade a um you know you would trade a robert thomas because like then i would put the
Starting point is 01:06:30 the next era around philip broberg jake neighbors are you still trading pew suitor it doesn't have trade protection but dylan holloway is only 24 like that would be where i would be putting my eggs if there was a basket to be had are you still trading bennington well he's his name is out there for sure but his name's been out there for years it's the blues here's the deal no one's everyone's name is always out there no one wants that deal i don't think okay a lot of money here's here's the rule of thumb if a blues name finds their way onto the trade market you have 48 months to acquire that player i asked i actually asked about this because that's i think that that's dated really it's dated because what i'm understanding is uh blues fans are like well no doug armstrong
Starting point is 01:07:13 still in charge technically but my understanding or the way it was put to me yesterday by somebody who would know is yes doug armstrong is in uh in charge until july 1st which is a very odd day to do the switch off wouldn't you have done the switch off on like game 82 when you didn't make it but in close consultation with Alex Steen which tells me Alex Steen will make the final call thank you very much it's like starting a new elf on Christmas Eve but that's why I think the Cairo trade finally happened yeah because you you finally got like Doug Armstrong refused refused refused refused refused I don't think it's a coincidence that Alex Steen is due to take over and is in close consultation and Jordan Cairo finally moves correct me if I'm wrong but I
Starting point is 01:07:57 believe the nhl technical calendar flips over on july 1st that might be the reason you announce it as july 1st fair enough like hr reasons you know like but the actual nhl calendar ends on june 30th every year so it is i think it's artificial so okay fair enough we want to we we run a company does it make if we were running an nhl team would it make sense to be like hey most important day of the year now you get to be the guy to me they've already given the reins to are you fucking that's why i think the words are artificial exactly that in terms of like the contract is actually kicking in on july 1st when the nhl calendar truly resets on the actual books okay all right um i like i like this deal for both sides it's just a question of what does
Starting point is 01:08:45 st louis want to be i know what washington wants to be i mean what i forget i think it was frees that said they like carberry so much in washington that they tore up the last year of his deal and said we'll start your extension now with way more money that's they love this guy and he became one of the highest paid coaches in the game and i see i could see why and i think last last year was just a year that happens sometimes you just have a shit year and injuries and injuries and just it just didn't come together but i think carberry getting a guy like jordan kairu like this is the piece this is the piece that was missing i think this is going to be a very very good hockey team I don't think the Metro are going to be as easy as they were last year,
Starting point is 01:09:24 especially in the early going. It's going to be Carolina at the top, unless there's like a ton of injuries, but I could see Washington finish second, finishing second, that division. No problem. I know.
Starting point is 01:09:35 I know he put, he's put up a ton of points and done very well in Washington. Is Dylan Strom like a true number one? Does it matter if you've got Ovi and Cairo? Well, this is what I'm saying, right? But it's hard to get a true number one.
Starting point is 01:09:49 yesterday morning they didn't have kairi yeah right yeah now it looks way better and i love mcmichael but ajax pickering raider but kairi is better kairi is a play driver he's certainly better now yeah yeah and i i don't know that mcmichael is going to be a play driver the way kairi is i think that's the other part of this yeah is that you know you get a legitimate force on the line makes an appreciable difference on any line he's really really like mcmichael i think really really solid middle six forward yes yeah and i think he'll be great in st louis he's gonna get a lot of minutes that's 100 um let's move on to the toronto maple leaves a couple of notes on them uh morgan riley has officially submitted his list of teams there are four they are all
Starting point is 01:10:34 western conference teams which that's really nice he could have just said now trade me in the atlantic um but i would imagine i don't really know what the teams are let's take a guess i would think that i think at least a team in california san jose you think yeah san jose everyone assumes vancouver because it's sort of where he's from they stink okay i'm glad you brought that up um why would someone with a full no move be like please trade me to the canucks i'm in 2026 especially someone who's never won in their career i'm gonna sign up for this long rebuild yeah you know what makes sense brandon gallagher might be the exception of that by the way yeah yeah they just said you're not coming back but like he he's a lot
Starting point is 01:11:23 more washed yeah that's what i'm no no disrespect full disrespect i mean i think full realism brandon gallagher is where he is in his career you have healthy scratch versus like underperforming second pair defenseman yeah it's a little different um i i so my san jose would be on my list for morgan colorado is that an interesting place western conference i think they couldn't possibly afford him but i could just be on his list right right yeah it doesn't have to be realistic it doesn't have to be like oh all right well then colorado edmonton vegas yeah i don't know the final four i don't think edmonton i i actually i think not not so anaheim's already lost john carlson oh anaheim's a good one let's throw them and they might lose truba
Starting point is 01:12:13 all right so okay let's literally do the final four in the west colorado vegas uh anaheim but anaheim is a legitimate spot yeah colorado vegas or not i know but but that's what i want to do let's do legitimate yeah i think i've got a lot of show to go right my guess would be dallas is on the list san jose i think anaheim's really good and then for utah dallas is so those are my for morgan and and like with morgan like they clearly like to have some older guys there they also love a reclamation project look what happened with jake truba he's gone he's done great uh valuable got tons of minutes like if i'm morgan and i'm going hey it hasn't gone well the last couple of years uh it sure worked out for him it could go right to his legs like totally
Starting point is 01:13:00 you know he's been here for nearly a thousand games ups downs then you go to this young team that just plays friggin cocaine puck like they do yeah like they're nuts it's really fun to watch um yeah that could go right to his legs i don't know how they would do it but god i would love to see olin zellweger uh or well well weger or whatever his last name is yeah i would love you just did a dave chapelle bit i don't know i i don't know uh he is he was great when they played him in the playoffs he was amazing and i do think that could be a young defenseman the leafs could really benefit from like like people are talking about jake mccabe's name being out there uh-huh here's how i think that makes sense how many plus 30 guys are you gonna have it's clear they want
Starting point is 01:13:49 to get younger radish is 30 yeah you got a meal andre and yeah no that's one of the like bedrocks of the leafs decor it's old right old middle age can have is not going anywhere it's okay it's middle age real it's hockey ancient yeah oh no not it's young real yeah you're 30 what the fuck you're talking about you're not old you're still a young man but in hockey terms it is very middle um so you're not interested in riley heiskanen i mean and harley and harley i don't know i don't know dallas is capped out they gotta sign robertson unless they're gonna trade him like i don't know i like the other thing is like maverick bork's name is out there i don't know how out there his name is or people just want him to get traded because he's obviously the guy that
Starting point is 01:14:39 so i don't know like i'm not saying i am not saying riley for maverick bork by the way no you're you're bringing up something that's interesting though like for chica like all right mo we need four teams and then he goes okay so dallas and it's like okay mo sorry let me stop you there we need four teams that can afford new players dallas can't afford the players they have that's why what are you talking about san jose anaheim uh-huh i kind of wonder about um nashville i don't know where the cap situation is but they got a new manager in there it's a fun place to play nashville um it's an older team go see yeah you know like it's brady shea and nick hagg top two yeah i don't know if there's a fit maybe not they do like to build from
Starting point is 01:15:25 the decor but i wouldn't i don't think you need three seattle's got so many defensemen it's literally they're literally falling out of their ears so it can't be them well and they got uh vince dunn and brandon montour who can run a power play pretty good yeah utah has sergachev and Schmidt and Simmons. And Dursey. Dursey's on the right, though. Oh, right, right. I'm just listening left.
Starting point is 01:15:44 Schmidt's pretty old, man. Yeah. He's never recaptured what he had in Winnipeg. 34. $3.5 million. There's a fit. Is he older than Moe?
Starting point is 01:15:57 34. Yeah. How old's Moe? 32, I want to say. It's crazy because Moe's been playing since he was 18. So you think he's older than that.
Starting point is 01:16:06 He's been around since he was a tiny infant. yeah most currently 32 yeah wow what i know it's crazy to me like we're trading the youngest of our old defenseman yeah like he's he's played nearly a thousand games as a leaf and he could have like i don't know 400 500 games left a long career ahead of him like yeah five years maybe yeah um there's some intriguing options back there for sure um i think it gets done though oh it's gonna get done yeah so anaheim san jose we think san jose is the obvious one because they have no defensemen um and then uh can we get can we get to two other teams where this makes sense because i think mo's gonna look at this in a very practical morgan riley way which is
Starting point is 01:16:48 i'd like to play a lot and i'd like to be a big part of whatever's going on i don't want to go to like he's not brent burns going to like his last contract with colorado trying to get one last chip or chance of the chip he's he's still very much got some career left he's a very useful player and like i saw a tweet today that was like morgan riley should not be traded just for the sake of trading morgan riley exactly if you don't get a decent price for this player it's it's actually interesting because there is a particular insider who said mere weeks ago you're not trading morgan riley without retaining and if you do you're not getting anything now same person saying they're gonna get something back for him and so i'm curious about what kind of what kind of return
Starting point is 01:17:35 you get if brandon carlo whose name is also out there is a couple of mid-round picks and i don't know is mid-round three to five i don't even know what that is yeah is that what they're expecting okay here i have a theory on uh by the way on what yesterday and all the rumors today are is projecting the prices on july 1st we already think they're going to be insane they're going to be twice as insane as that someone barely worth four is going to get eight that's what i think the reason teams are going out there making crazy trade the most insane trades you've ever seen no one's left and the ones that are left are asking for i don't think it's unreasonable like okay dickinson signed for edmonton dickinson or
Starting point is 01:18:28 san jose sorry edmonton dickinson jason dickinson signed for it was four million or four four point one or something or was that or is that murphy murphy's 4.1 dickinson's four okay four i think it's very reasonable to say he left money on the table yes yeah but he got the fifth year he did get the fifth year but i think he left money on the table to stay and play in edmonton yeah very realistic chance of winning a cup yep right which is to say he could have gone to free agency and gotten what i think probably five at the season i think at least five i mean they were clearly looking for 20 million dollars so maybe the five year four five million four year deal is out there i'd go as high as five and a half i won't go as high as six scott lawton is apparently
Starting point is 01:19:14 in the five and a half range so is adam henrique and now you need a center and who the who's who's there who's available someone's gonna give scott lawton like six and a half million dollars yep i'm serious or seven yep good for scott lawton i know good for i guess i i don't even care if it's the worst contract signed i want that man to be rich because he's a good person and i like him Oh, I just love no matter what on July 1st, if he signs for no matter what dollar amount he signs for, I'm going to be like, great deal. Yep. Great deal. And just know that I'm doing a bit, but also great deal. You know what? We'll give it a 10 out of 10, no matter what the terms are. I hope it's with, I hope he gets 10 by 10. Yeah. I love Scott. I'll die for it. So
Starting point is 01:19:55 two and five Canadians will hear the words. You have cancer. That's why every step and dollar raised matters. So I said Brandon Carlo's names out there, Jake McCabe's names out there, but he's not been asked to waive a no trade. And Jake McCabe signed here, even left money on the table.
Starting point is 01:21:35 And also he was one of the last contracts where they deferred money. That's right. And then the NHL is like, no, stop it with your fucking fun. They got rid of that and the double retention on like the same day. That upset me. Double retention makes things so much more fun. Jesse, here's what's going to happen. The next commissioner is going to be Bill Daly.
Starting point is 01:21:53 daily and then the next commissioner after that is going to be a commissioner who's worth it and that person immediately on day one all they have to do to have the most successful career in nhl history is to change the playoff format and bring back double retention that's all you got to do 2050 is about to go crazy it's gonna be going yeah what are you talking about i got 40 years for this um uh with the toronto maple leafs though the name that we've been holding back on is Matthew Nyes and he is his name has been out there and out there with a vengeance and you can see why after the Bo Byron trade even even Sens fans are like oh you think that Matthew Nyes would get a fourth overall pick blah blah blah and they're like oh but maybe
Starting point is 01:22:33 well there was um there was a Blackhawks fan I saw he was like oh Leaf fans are delusional thinking they could get the fourth overall pick in front del for Nyes and they went oh okay they well now look oh okay well it's tricky because they're obviously different players one's a winger one's a defenseman one's older one's slightly younger how far off of byram's value is nice not far i i don't think it's very far especially well i would much rather have nice and the reason is because of the cost certainty he has did his contract start yet yes or so this past season he made 775 yes so he has five years left then of 775 at i think 23 years old and no trade protection and no and had 66 points in 79 games despite putting on so here's the story
Starting point is 01:23:40 people are a little bit weird about the story he he he bulked up because he thought he needed to bulk up and he did that on purpose now he's trying to cut because it cut into his speed and i think there was an injury there too in 79 games he still had 66 points like it hurts guys there's lots of people who are like uh oh yeah this guy's fucking awesome i don't think you understand that there is no physical specimen like this on most teams i'm pro analytics unless you're talking about matthew nice tom wilson was like that too for the first little bit i think his analytics have improved but like he is a freight train yeah he will beat the shit out of you with his left hand yep and guide you lovingly to the ice once you're knocked out with his right hand um he can score
Starting point is 01:24:29 he can kill penalties he can play on your power play he can he's a brilliant playmaker he's a great skater fuck that's looking at the byram trade a week ago i was like you're out of your mind trade matthew nize and now i'm like i am listening so here's what i think's happening and i want to drop a theory okay the leafs probably want to get another pick in the top 10 that's that seems to be where the wind's blowing if that pick is available from san jose i think you try to make that call whether that's two or nine i think right they have nine yeah uh huh i think what john shike is trying to do is twofold and i gotta god bless him if he pulls it off if i'm right i think he's trying to build a team of younger guys that austin will get excited
Starting point is 01:25:22 about and want to stick around for but i also think he's building said team because if austin doesn't want to stick around the leafs will survive it there's some protection i think in a perfect world and this is extremely ridiculous they get that second pick they go mckenna stenberg and if you lose nyes to have to do that well then that's okay because you've got mckenna stenberg and they have a hole where right side let's follow the breadcrumbs adam uh keith pelly talked about michael haji and all the habs prospects by name mr spaghetti mr spaghetti oh tortellini freaking managota um he talked about all the habs prospects by name and that
Starting point is 01:26:12 ended up being true we know that now who else did he talk about who's that buffalo Rademurka was the name he brought up. He talked about Buffalo. And they were thrilled. They were so pumped. Buffalo just got the fourth overall pick. Yep. It's a bit of a weird trade.
Starting point is 01:26:35 Keep hearing about Carson Carrolls and how the Leafs like him. Keep hearing about Chase Reed and how the Leafs like him. It sounds like even though they have the cap space, there's a very good chance they lose Alex Tuck. Yeah. There's rumors this morning, by the way, of a sign-in trade with Seattle. Just throwing that out. Oh, really?
Starting point is 01:26:49 Yeah. Okay, I hadn't even heard that yet. His contract's going to be too rich for Buffalo, I think. At that number that Seattle's going to be willing to pay because they just need people. They're desperate. So I don't think Buffalo should pay that. And I think Steve is barking up the right tree.
Starting point is 01:27:04 All right, all right, all right. I don't love the idea of Nye's leaving, period. I don't love the idea of him staying in the division. I think that is a bloody nightmare. Not to mention, like, besides the fact that he's going to get better, he's also going to try to murder the Leafs every night. Look at what he's done at Amelie after losing in the Frozen Four Finals.
Starting point is 01:27:26 Every time he rolls into Tampa, he fucks them up. So a lot of non-Leaf fans are not going to know the lore there. Yeah, they lost the Frozen Four Finals in Amelie, and he might have more points in that building than he does in Scotiabank Arena. He hates. He makes sure with a vengeance to come back. Didn't he get a hat trick?
Starting point is 01:27:41 Yeah. Yeah, and he was great in the playoffs too. Unbelievable in the playoffs. It upsets me to think about what a perfect match Josh Allen and Matthew Nye's would be. Oh, you're right. I think those two will own the town together
Starting point is 01:27:55 and it's going to be awesome for Buffalo Sabres fans. But I also like having the fourth overall pick. And I think that's what it's going to cost. Plus, like, I don't know what else you're putting in there to make that deal whole. But I think the fourth is the starting point.
Starting point is 01:28:09 Can we get goofy for a second? Let's say you flip Nye's to Buffalo, you get the fourth overall pick. Then do you call San Jose and go, riley fourth overall pick second pick because that gives a three-team trade yeah yeah like and maybe that's not the exact fair value but wouldn't you want to move up and just select whoever the fuck you want to select or do you just leave because riley's going anyway riley seems like enough value to move up the two spots four to two i think he is for a team that has zero defenseman
Starting point is 01:28:37 yeah and a team that doesn't really need two because they're going to be happy at four and he's great he's a good person he's bit he's get all he gets to go to play with celebrini that's so cool go feed celebrini we have okay so cj was i would have wanted ecklund by the way i love ecklund oh yeah me too i wish the leafs did that yeah so it's wednesday monday we had cj in here yeah and he talked about how darn old nurse has become underrated yeah which he's right yeah nine and a quarter nightmare ah breakneck speed really bad cap it has been still is but he's underrated because we've been talking about how awful he is for so long i kind of think it's the same thing with mo yeah yeah um now i don't know if he's enough to move up from fourth to second maybe
Starting point is 01:29:26 i could see it but like how many points did he have this past season he still had like 40 plus as a defenseman who's supposedly washed now in front of his own net jesus wept it's holy cow well and i the reason a lot of leaf fans steve just to jump in want to keep him because maybe in a new system he'll be great and i think there's a point to that but you must elevates in the playoffs to elevates in the playoffs no question he's always a good playoff performer my issue with mo is that every uh every head coach goes we're gonna we're gonna bring his minutes back down and then they never fucking do you have to take the toys away sometimes right so he's i think that's why they trade huh oh my god it's just also like gavin mckenna's coming in left winger
Starting point is 01:30:08 yeah like that's a left winger too so that might be a complicating fact did you i think i think you go uh defenseman do you go defense right i think i think you go defenseman with the the next top five pick you'll have if that's the fourth so let's say it's fourth mckenna carrolls yeah i spoke to someone the other day who thinks carrolls is going to be the best player in the draft oh why not have two magic beans instead of one i would like that very much um why not get them all just get the top five picks i'm mad at darren drager why mad at him why because this morning he made it sound like something was about to happen any minute well and now it's one in the afternoon and nothing has happened which increases the likelihood of a trade breaking at exactly five
Starting point is 01:30:52 o'clock and just totally fucking us yeah hey we should probably mention programming note that's what i was about to say there you go we'll be back tomorrow with a new episode because friday night we have a live stream so uh expect that thursday afternoon slash evening time so everything will work out you'll listen to this one a bunch of stuff will happen hopefully thursday morning and then you'll get that thursday afternoon show and then friday we'll be back live from seven until probably three in the morning for the first round of the NHL draft. You're not even wrong.
Starting point is 01:31:26 No, we had five hours last year. So tomorrow there's the press conference with Chyka, Jim Hiller, and who knows what else. So Jesse's going to go cover that. Then we're going to do a show. Then we're going to do a VIP. And then, I don't know, maybe sleep. You forgot the nice trade that's going to happen before that.
Starting point is 01:31:44 Sleep Sunday. Oh, I know. Like tonight and either tonight or tomorrow morning, i'm expecting to make a riley video and a nice video and ideally you get to ask john chica about both of those things tomorrow yeah we'll see which is insane yeah we'll see uh the list we were given of potential trades mason mctavish number two pick hellebuck nice lundell elias petterson's names out there de brusque and potentially both robertson brothers although one of them is a little bit more notable than the other still don't know what the leafs are going to do there
Starting point is 01:32:14 um but you know anton lindell is far and away florida's most valuable trade ship and i i just think they're insane to trade them yeah yeah but you never know now we got to get to there was a couple of press conferences in the last couple of days and we have to play these clips we got to get into this mike babcock in edmonton yesterday and no it did not take long for mike to speak about himself in the third person it's like the fifth most important news item yesterday um mike's i'm gonna skip mike's opening remarks jesse because you know they're just they were long they were about three minutes long uh but uh i want to go right to ryan rashog's questions now ryan rashog got two questions to start and then mark specter got two questions can you give me time yeah of
Starting point is 01:33:00 course and i'll just set up the press conference in the sense that you know what was amazing about the oilers introducing him yesterday is that it immediately immediately got buried by all these sorry jesse please put that on screen i thought this the screen cap was jesse went there totally by accident stan bowman looks i don't think he likes the question he's being asked uh sorry i also like when stan talks in this press conference it's like where excitement goes to die i don't know how people make it away through his meetings but um let's start with ryan rashog at 10 48 because you know it's not quite the john shika steve simmons going you're a fraud right not quite that theatrical but i you know edmonton media have been accused in the past of
Starting point is 01:33:47 being a little bit friendly and toronto media gets it everybody gets it everybody gets that's not new two pro oilers right uh i gotta give them their effing flowers they went hard and listen to this Ryan Rashad question. Jesse, it ends at 1237. Mike, welcome to Edmonton. Thanks, Ryan. Just wanted to go back to Columbus or just maybe looking for some clarity there. You issued a statement after the guys on the podcast had talked about you look at a player's phones and such. And you basically said, you know, this was irresponsible of them to be suggesting there was anything wrong with it. And within a few days, when the PA looks into things, you know you're essentially exiting that scenario and John Davidson and saying you made players very
Starting point is 01:34:35 uncomfortable Mike what happened in Columbus and why did you choose to walk away well I chose to walk away really straightforward and I appreciate the question here was it was very evident before the year started I hadn't benched anybody I hadn't talked to anybody I hadn't sat anybody out and it was evident that we weren't together as a staff right from the get-go my wife gave me a call and she said it's time to get out of there i'd been retired i was pretty good at it i got back to being retired so mike the reporting that's out there has been about you looking through players cell phones asking to share photos and such like at any point mike do you feel you stepped over the line with the way you handled that situation and is there is there anything else
Starting point is 01:35:25 that maybe we haven't heard about that happened there that resulted in you walking away no to be honest with you anytime you make anybody feel uncomfortable in your life you should take a look at yourself and you should say how could i do that better and i think that's what you do as a as a person as you try to always be better at what you do the situation in columbus they've had a full review and i'm thankful nhl and hlp for doing that it didn't work out for us we're excited about making it work here all right so i gotta give give ryan rashog because he said he tried to get away from the question and ryan followed up and said no let's talk phones here yeah and and that you got to remember the position that he's in and
Starting point is 01:36:13 Wait, wait till Speck comes up, too, because Speck asks a good question. He's got to talk to Mike twice a day all season next year. And the rumor is Mike Babcock got a four year extension or four year contract. So it could be the next three and a half years. You never know. Takes him to damn near 70. So, yeah. So what I love about this is this is them going, hey, NHL.
Starting point is 01:36:36 Yeah, we don't really give a shit. Mike's answers also denote that he doesn't give a shit. so this is going to be a very interesting dynamic and that's the first fucking day man him saying you know anytime well anytime you make do i get to bring oh yeah let's go anytime you make people feel uncomfortable uh you gotta look at yourself right um that's as close to accountability as you're gonna get uh oilers fans are gonna so he's done a bunch of shit in his nhl career forget columbus forget columbus he's done a bunch of shit right and yes red wings fans were were there uh telling lee fans just you wait and hot diggity damn they were absolutely correct
Starting point is 01:37:26 he's very charming on the mic he's gonna charm a lot of people and he's gonna make you forget this guy's a brilliant job interview brilliant job interview brilliant on the microphone charming brilliant hockey mind funny at times you're gonna i don't think with babcock you're ever gonna know anything is going wrong in the moment yeah but i don't think it would shock anyone if a couple years after he's done in edmonton five years after he's done in edmonton people go let me tell you what this bastard did and he's a hard like you know people talk about how uh soft nowadays snowflake or whatever there's a difference between being a hard ass which is what i think john tortorella is like for as much of an uh absolute petulant child as he is
Starting point is 01:38:23 with the media generally with his players the review afterward is i like playing for him i always knew where i stood right babcock if you were in babcock's doghouse you were barely seen as a human you can't get out like you you can't get out um and some of those guys like people forget about about this comment i don't remember if it was pertaining to peter holland or josh levo but when they left they then fizzled out and or maybe it was even frank corrado and he said something along the lines of you know guys didn't like it here they didn't like how how you know they were treated here and then they went somewhere else and found out they weren't a player like he said something along those lines and i was just like jesus that's cold and that's how he views it
Starting point is 01:39:16 yeah if if you can't be in the lineup for him you're useless all that stuff about um well you have a 23 man roster and you have three spares i got news for you guys if there isn't an injury those guys are not playing yeah they are not playing the backup goalie will play second half of back-to-backs and that is essentially it um if you know if you're a veteran coming uh coming up on the end of your career if you're a fringe player if you're a fourth liner if you're a rookie unless you're one of the prize ponies which is to say connor mcdavid leon dry sidles zach hyman this might be a real shitty four years for you yeah and one correction the backup goalie might also play Tavares' return to the island.
Starting point is 01:40:14 That's the other place where he's going to play the backup goalie. You know what? He would start Tarasov in Ottawa when Brady makes his return. If they had Bobrovsky and Tarasov, he would start him. Right. Now, let's get to the next. We got a lot of audio here, okay? So, Ryan Rashog has primed the engine.
Starting point is 01:40:37 Mark Spector then goes, oh, where's the gas puddle? Let me step on that with a couple of questions. The first one starts with Stan Bowman's past. Oh, I mean, that's the question. And the question to Mike is, why do you deserve a third chance? So let's let's play it. It just keeps going. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:40:57 1240. So, yeah. Thanks. Next question. Go ahead. Mark Spector, Sportsnet. Welcome to town. Now, two years ago, Stan was sitting in that chair, and he was coming from Chicago, and he was telling us about, you know, he had reconciled with Cal Beach.
Starting point is 01:41:12 He had spent a lot of time with Sheldon Kennedy. He had several character references that told us that he deserved another chance, a second chance. So I'd ask you, Mike, what have you done over the past two, three years to deserve what would be a third chance? You know, I think that's a great question. i think the big thing is just about trying to improve yourself and get better i'm real fortunate that i have three adult children we talk on a daily basis about how you improve what you do to get better you know i'm real comfortable with the group we're going to have here surrounding me i'm real comfortable with the management team i'm comfortable with the
Starting point is 01:41:52 interaction i've had with the players and how we've walked through how the interaction is going to be and how straightforward and obviously they're comfortable or i wouldn't be here and i thought that was important to have that happen so a weekend they can't be suddenly uncomfortable so we went through that whole process to make sure we're moving ahead here and like i said to you i'm excited about the opportunity okay he's positive for a second right there right there so he's going to go to stan next um the players he's talking about are three connor leon sack those are the players who are comfortable everybody else sorry trent frederick trent frederick too he was in that meeting he's gonna be there longer than all
Starting point is 01:42:33 yeah he will that's true trent frederick will be there long he trent frederick will be there as long as the elves last in lord of the rings i'm not under the impression he'll ever go to stan bowman it's jesus i'm not under the impression he'll ever go to stan bowman and be like trade this player he will just leave him to rot in the press box until you figure it out yes now why do you deserve a third chance is great yeah mark then reloads the bazooka can i make a point on that yeah um third chance i'm mike babcock and this is my first chance well that's how he views it stan bowman was booted from the nhl and had to be reinstated
Starting point is 01:43:20 that's a second chance babcock has only ever been fired for hockey reasons he was fired in toronto because the leafs stunk that's why he got fired it wasn't because of any of the mitch stuff or or whatever we didn't know that till after he got fired because the leaf stunk fired in columbia he wasn't fired they worked out a deal and he stepped away he was fired in detroit because they wanted blaschel to come up and they stunk and they stunk they kept not getting out of the first round right so he's only ever been hired and fired like any other coach in this league it seems pretty obvious he doesn't think he did anything particularly wrong uh second third chance what what are you talking about i i in his head i don't think he
Starting point is 01:44:14 thinks he's on a second chance at all i think the answers will bear that i think it's very interesting the way he retells the columbus stuff because i think he's a similar thinking to way the way you outline the columbus situation where you're like it's on them for being cowards for not sticking through this and he kind of feels like yeah it's on them for not working with me like they weren't on my side and i had to move on i don't think they should have hired him but if you hire a person you should commit to them and they didn't do that and now he's walking onto a contender potentially so then mark as i said reloads the bazooka and shoots his grandma uh no i respect this question too oh good reference i was like why
Starting point is 01:45:03 would you say that oh okay oh that's a deep cut uh because he turns it to stan bowman and he makes it about character listen to this fucking question it's great you know all those sort of intangibles character past history all those things all right given the hiring practices stand as far as yeah let's start at 13 that's incredible camera work give them a raise because that was awesome because he says stand at the beginning and it a little bit smuddled okay here we go sorry you guys want it again oh my god okay all right oh that's gonna be the funniest thing i see all day you got your headphones yeah and like I said to you I'm excited about the opportunity Stan as far as you know all those sort
Starting point is 01:45:53 of intangibles character past history all those things given the hiring practices this team has made and given the fact that you know Vegas hires Carter Hart puts them in goal to go right to the cup Wow should the Edmonton Oilers or do the Edmonton Oilers really care what anyone thinks about the character of the people they hire? Well, Mark, I think... Can we just give Mark Spector his flowers on that? That's a hell of a question.
Starting point is 01:46:20 Like both of them. I gave Ryan his too, because I was like, damn! Bangers out the gate, boys! Alright, now, you can listen to Stan. He does give an answer that I think is revealing, but Stan is not the most charismatic man you've ever met.
Starting point is 01:46:36 About the character of the people they hire? well mark i think i guess i look at it a little bit differently like we certainly do care about the people that we work with every day and it matters that um the people that we interact with um have good experiences and uh that's an that's important to me and i've communicated that to mike and to dj and not just them but the whole staff here is you know there's been progress in sports over the last 10, 15 years to where positive progress, to where you have to understand what not just makes the athletes tick but also the staff that supports those athletes.
Starting point is 01:47:21 We're all in this together. We're a big family, and there's a trust level that is important here that I need to trust Mike that he's going to operate that way And he needs to trust me that we're going to do the same thing with everyone that we interact with. So it's important what we do from this point forward. And I understand the questions that you're asking. There's going to be people wondering. We can't change the past.
Starting point is 01:47:51 And really what matters is our actions, not so much. I mean, our words matter as well. but I think everyone here who's skeptical they want to see what actually happens and how we interact with our players and that matters to me and we've had great conversations been very open clear explicit about what we expect like there's nothing wrong with holding players accountable for their performance but also doing it in a way that's respectful and that's what we expect here so you know i'm excited about where we're headed i think mike's got an incredible knowledge of the game of hockey but also as you go through experiences like we all have you grow
Starting point is 01:48:37 from them i mean hopefully you do um i believe in talking to mike at length that um you recognize how you can operate differently moving forward so um you know it's it's exciting to think of those possibilities okay let's pause it there so the answer is very long and befuddling and whatever i don't i think he's saying yeah we do have standards in this organization and of course he's going to say that right um i'm sure you missed half of that because it was just a lot of a lot of yap not a lot of substance but the the reality is they're basically telling you what mark specter asked which is do you give a shit they're like yeah we give it a little bit of a shit um but like what's our give a shit level compared to other teams that's the question
Starting point is 01:49:24 i think that that people want to know and where i think this press conference makes an interesting turn is that once you get those four questions from rashag inspector and i want to say one more time how great they were bob stoffer who is like the oilers insider on 6 30 chad um has you know if you want to know anything about the oilers you're listening to his show yes um he asked a question that i think goes underrated and didn't go viral tell us about the conversation you had with connor leon and zach there it is 1644 he doesn't have to he just it the beauty in this question is we know you had it tell us and what mike's answer here uh says i think is very interesting go ahead we'll go up front here to bob uh bob sawford orders radio network this
Starting point is 01:50:12 questions for mike mike it's a players league and you alluded to it a bit but can you perhaps uh shed some insight just in terms of the conversation that you specifically had with connor uh leon and and uh zach and uh and maybe a bit about what you sort of reinforced from your perspective what you were looking for you know because i'm going to assume that it was a fairly animated conversation they had questions for you but you also had some questions for them well 100 bob thanks for the question I mean obviously when you're sitting with those players number one you're having fun but they've played the game long enough and they're good enough players they have opinions about how things should be I've fortunate as a coach have had lots of success and I have thoughts
Starting point is 01:50:57 on how things have to be and we discuss them in detail we broke down what was going on in the playoffs we walked through the clips we walked through how it'd be done here and how it's going to be done moving ahead and we talked about leon connor that climate and the rest of this leadership group want to get better and that's what they've asked of me and they've told me we have to be better and we expect you to make us better and i said well that's great to talk about in june when camp starts and you're making a guy do things you might not be so happy and they said no that's not how it's going to be we're all committed all in on winning and obviously in that time period we had gone through enough things and talked about enough things
Starting point is 01:51:42 that they felt comfortable with the process or i wouldn't be here and i was very clear to them unless you're 100 all in on mike babcock i have no interest in being the coach and that is where he talks about himself in the third person which is something he's known to do that is the thing that mike babcock does now i'm going to skip a few of these because our our episode is going a bit long but i do want to say jason gregor so i asked a banger question he's like how can you articulate to the fourth liners or young guys that they need to be better or whatever and not be a dick and that's what he actually says now mike's answer is boring well jason thanks for your question i mean the answer is who gives a fuck about those players right we got connor we got
Starting point is 01:52:26 zack we got leon so anyone on the fourth line mike babcock doesn't give a fuck about that guy every time he did that thing where he's like that's a great question thank you for the question i feel like he's trying to psychologically fuck you it's policy he's charming i told you getting into your brain and trying to do his weird mike babcock stuff yep there's a difference between being polite and nice i think he's very polite i don't think he's terribly nice listen is mike babcock a good hockey coach yeah i think he is yeah i mean he's an nhl coach you you have to be very good at coaching to be even in the nhl for a game okay is he a good hockey coach by nhl standards yes yes is he going to be in the hall of fame yes yeah has he won a gold medal yes
Starting point is 01:53:15 has he won a stanley cup yes why are we doing steve austin here yeah the reason we're doing in that two gold medals, one, three, five guys on Mitch's list. Oh no, Jesse, Jesse, come on, six guys, you know, seven guys. No, for no grabner. Yep, my maholik, be a parent. Oh, uh sorry where we got mike babcock mike babcock for all his faults
Starting point is 01:53:57 is an incredible hockey coach that's the reason they hired him and they keep bringing up connor and leon and zach because that's who made this decision yes yes stan bowman's sitting there and wearing these bullets i don't think he had much to do with it the inmates are allowed to run the asylum when the inmates are connor leon and zach well i also think that the owner has stan bowman because who was hiring stan bowman other than edmonton right so the so stan bowman does whatever daryl case wants if stan bowman in 2015 had been offered the oilers job he had told them he would have laughed them out of the room laughed them out of the room you could have telegraphed a decision like this a couple years ago and we're allowed to play press conference footage we are not allowed
Starting point is 01:54:49 to play footage of an amazon documentary so i'm gonna go ahead and do my best impression since we're not allowed to play the footage dig in right fucking now he comes that unhinged that's the sound that connor mcdavid makes and we only know about that because they happen to catch those five seconds on camera and they didn't want that coming out by the way they tried to stop it they tried to stop it my guess is that has happened more than once in connor mcdavid's career i've never seen a single clip of connor mcdavid in the eerie otters locker room but there is a popular viral clip of him walking into the locker room and going
Starting point is 01:55:41 literally like that if you think i'm being unhinged go watch the clip i'm just doing an accurate impression i think they're two peas in a pod connor and mike i do they are hell bent on winning at least the whatever you believe about him at least the monster that is mike babcock has had his hunger for winning satiated by actually doing it connor mcdavid is a super villain at this point because they nearly did something that hadn't been done since 1942 when he freaked out right fucking now when he did that they were down two nothing or three nothing in that series and then they come back and force game seven and lost that series by one goal gets the consummate doesn't even come out and accept it i would be surprised if he ever made
Starting point is 01:56:43 eye contact with the thing and then in 2025 he loses again and then this year happens and the olympics happen i don't think he's lost a moment of sleep over hiring mike babcock who's the best hockey coach available bruce cassidy the answer might be bruce cassidy but he's not available he's not available and the vegas golden knights are a good hockey team they're an incredible hockey team they're an elite hockey team i don't think we've put enough time into the discussion of what the edmonton oilers are gonna do to those motherfuckers next year yeah you think so why what what gives you that what gives me that didn't you hear me just screaming like a psychopath doing a very scarily
Starting point is 01:57:37 accurate connor mcdavid impression yeah and then they go out and they hire mike babcock because of that scary conor mcdavid impression and the reason mike babcock is the coach is because vegas wouldn't let bruce cassidy go to edmonton why wouldn't vegas let bruce cassidy go to edmonton because they know he's a good hockey coach and they're smart because they're scared that's not a dig at the vegas golden knights by the way fear is built into our dna to keep us alive yep vegas golden knights want to continue to win the first round win the second round win the third round so that they have a ticket to the stanley cup final and potentially win the thing and the only way if you look at the way the western conference is built other than colorado
Starting point is 01:58:27 who you know you can beat because you swept them the only way to to guarantee yourself that ticket or to give yourself the best chance at that ticket is to keep the oilers out of it right they go out and they get mike babcock dude there are some nights where connor has it and there are some nights where he doesn't he's gonna have it every fucking night they play vegas we might see a five goal game next year um beyond that uh there's a couple of questions uh franzen's name was invoked uh there was a question from jim matheson i was gonna run but we really don't have the time uh what has to change about the best players and mike talked about scotty bowman going to Detroit and Steve Iserman not being maybe scoring as much as he used to, but doing
Starting point is 01:59:13 different things that led to the win. And I think that's the, that's, I think that's the sales pitch here, right? Is Connor Leon, you might not score as much, but we need you to do these things. And here's why you haven't won. And you know, what's so great about a sales pitch like that is they haven't won and they want to, and Mike can basically say, I'm Mike Babcock and I'll tell you why you haven't won. And they kind of are going to believe them. I do think that it is, I think it's a new era in Edmonton. There's no comfy anymore. And Leon Connor and Zach Hyman
Starting point is 01:59:39 just told the team that. Don't be comfortable here. If you're an Edmonton oiler and you're not on a bike right now, you're doing it wrong. Yep. Yep. You're in for a wild year.

At participating A&W locations in Ontario. embedded at its core working across every system and it's ready to go from day one so you can hit the ground running bring it with sap grow ai cloud erp for any size business now uh we did have a ton of media appearances by brady kachuk yesterday i don't we don't need to get into the press conference although i do have it clipped um he talked uh he talked to pat mcafee he had the wingman podcast and then he did his um uh his uh press conference with uh bill zito who is also
Starting point is 02:01:37 uh just as exciting as stan bowman i've come to find out although the bill zito stare far more intimidating than yet that's the scariest um uh what i do want to say and our friend of the show sid sixero mentioned this he said i'm not really sure why bill zito just gave up power over the florida panthers and i was like interesting why is he saying this and he said you just traded for brady kachuk who's matthew's brother good luck saying no to that family ever again hmm and that's a i thought it was a good point and you know brady's had in in he he mentioned in his press conference part of where this all started from is he loved you know playing the four nations and getting into high leverage
Starting point is 02:02:21 games and he had three goals in four games in the four nations it was good he also had put up good points in the olympics too um this is a guy who he said i started to get addicted to that about we can play that wanted to play yeah sure let's play it hey brady alex baumgartner cbs sports i have two questions for you the first one obviously we all saw the success you guys had with team usa both of the four nations making the gold medal game and then obviously winning the gold medal at the olympics playing those high high leverage situation games best on best competing for gold medals and then obviously winning it did that play a factor and wanting to come to an organization like the panthers that have been to three straight cup finals won the cups have seen so much success
Starting point is 02:03:02 over the last couple of years i mean it definitely no it started that you know four nations because at that time i never played in a playoff game and um you know started those those big games that just that's what i could describe i just got addicted to those feelings of of getting up and And that nervous excitement, that little anxiety you get going into the game of, holy cow, this is a big game. And then it kind of translated to that first playoff run and then to the Olympics where that Olympic final was the biggest game I've ever played to date and just not realizing the impact that it would have on our lives.
Starting point is 02:03:39 And that's just something that, you know, those are the games you want to play and those are the games that you dream about as a kid. And that's where I guess, you know, team legacies are, are created in those games. And that's something that really excited, excited me about coming to this group and coming to this team, this organization that, you know, they've been there, they've seen that they've, they have the experience and, and I think they're the most confident, um, you know, group of guys in those situations. So just being able to learn and be a part of that was something that, um, you know,
Starting point is 02:04:13 really, really excited me too. he also mentioned that he just didn't want to play these guys anymore and yeah and listen like we are in an age where some super teams are going to exist because the cap's going to go up so much that it will take time for player salaries to adjust and this is one of them um this is one of them but i do think like i i do think that when when ottawa fans are pissed they have a point Panthers fans being excited they have a point well yeah of course um I I just I think I think where I fall on Brady is I keep waiting for him to be the guy they tell me he is and uh I I mean that in the playoffs I outlined that with you guys you know he had the Danny
Starting point is 02:05:04 Heatley Alexi Yashin stat line which was basically next to nothing in his final playoffs there all three of them got swept all three of them left I feel like you know and Bill Zito said this in the press conference he said none of these guys are superstars now part of that I think is market what well he essentially said like like bankable superstar like I know we see Barkov as a superstar but how many years in a row was he underrated player of the year right like that is that's real he's right yeah matthew kachuk i think is an actual superstar but i also think a part of this is you know you know he talked about on the podcast well if i you know i said to to matthew i'll take you out of it right no not a soul on earth believes that i think he's experiencing
Starting point is 02:05:51 um being celebrity and i think he likes it and i think he wants to just you know people like oh what's what's so complicated he wants to be with his brother and i get that the hughes brothers want to play together eventually too yeah there's something feels off about this to me and i can't quite put my finger on it and yeah i'm canadian maybe i have and yes elliot did mention that oh they the american players were upset that the anthem got booed in canada and the frigid reaction to when they came back from the white house listen i don't want to make this political if you want to willfully be ignorant about that that subject fine fill your boots that's as far as we're going with it but what do you got uh i'm gonna do what probably no one expects me to do and
Starting point is 02:06:38 that's uh defend brady kachuk's decision we get one life yes we do you want an easy life or a hard life now there's no there's only one option for brady kachuk and that's easy life he is a multi-millionaire whose dad is a multi-millionaire um if you took away all his money he would still be like six four two hundred and thirty pounds like he's got a leg up in life like genetically gifted uh rich got it he's just not the mythical kind of sports figure that we write about and here's what i mean by that because you're just being a hater he's a gold medalist i know he's a gold medalist stop talking about winning a gold medal and winning a stanley cup like it's the same thing it's not it's not it's not close it's a two-week elite tournament with the best players
Starting point is 02:07:44 in the world the stanley cup is two months of warfare no it's a lifelong journey yeah that's what you're striving for when you're four years old yep it's completely different yeah and i mean you could you could strive for the olympics is as well but at the end of the day it it you could look at any player on the ice during the olympics and be like who's it going to be who's going to step up who's going to have their incredible moment in the stanley cup playoffs anyone is capable of having that ue crew scored a stanley cup winning goal you know uh um ross colton has a stanley cup winning goal uh it can be anyone darren mccarty had a stanley cup winning goal but at the end of the day if the senators were ever going to do this you're going to look
Starting point is 02:08:33 at brady and he's gone from being the captain of the ottawa senators to the second most important kachuk on the panthers and that's an easy life and it's not fun it's not i mean it's it's not not fun it's not seems pretty fun i mean it's not fun to it's not mythical we like talking about like i love watching the edits on tiktok of uh well what's the most impressive run in the nba finals we've ever seen and they go oh it's not a question and then they play the scary music and they talk about Dirk Nowitzki beating the insane Portland Trailblazers the insane Kobe Lakers the insane up-and-coming Oklahoma City Thunder and then the three-headed monster that was the LeBron Wade Bosch Miami Heat and that's just not what's happening here there is no option where if
Starting point is 02:09:41 the Florida Panthers win the Stanley Cup I would even this is going to sound insane and I just don't know how else to word it it's barely even impressive like they're gonna walk onto the ice next year with I assume Bob is coming back or they're gonna have a great starting goalie in that somehow if the Florida Panthers win the Stanley Cup next year the person I'm gonna be the most impressed with is bill zito it's not going to be any of the players you you created an olympic caliber team in the nhl which you're not supposed to be able to do with the salary cap much less in a place like florida who god in recent memory were a joke they were a joke roberto luongo i can't remember if it was won or played i think he played six games in the
Starting point is 02:10:39 the playoffs for the florida panthers that's a disgrace and i was going to say that's a black mark that never comes off yes it does with three straight trips to the stanley cup final two of them you win and in both of them you have roberto luongo hoisting the cup above his head like it always should have been right the the scenario where a superstar steps up and has an incredible run and beats the odds the panthers aren't beating the odds they are the odds they're now the miami heat the miami heat won and when they won we were all like yeah so what but the teams that beat them those are the teams that are special you know what i mean yeah for sure i do and i don't know if that's fair and i don't know if that's sounding like a hater but like i can't
Starting point is 02:11:36 be a hater i'm literally calling you the best you're the best team in the nhl you didn't even make the playoffs last year you're the best team in the nhl the hurricanes won the stanley cup like two weeks ago and i'm calling you the best team in the nhl i don't it's just can i tell you i'm struggling to put words to it too can i tell you what's telling to me what the lack of instagram posts the rumors reno lavoie as soon as the trade happened reno lavoie is one of the most connected insiders in the sport said there was a lot of relief in the room that he's gone it was a distraction remember this is a guy who allowed his dad on a podcast that is edited to go live with uh i'm disappointed in your team your your your ice time sucks your goalie soft yeah so
Starting point is 02:12:23 keith says that matthew tries to get him back on track brady does nothing brady disappears off the screen he's not even the most important kachuk brother he's not the kachuk brother with the most agency you know what i mean yeah and he's taking the easy route which i totally totally totally understand on a human level but you you have to understand why an ottawa senator's fan would be like that is the softest shit i've ever seen well and and matthew said uh in in the canada stuff this is how i know this is where i i got to start pushing back on this stuff because the um the the the thing that really got me was matthew kachuk saying well in canada you got to wear all these hats and in florida you don't uh what he essentially said was like well you got
Starting point is 02:13:18 to do all this stuff in canada where you don't have to do that here and to me it's like it's like when gets laugh went on that podcast and said i'd never play in toronto the media the media i'm like just admit you're soft just admit you're soft and and ottawa's media is uh i mean they want you to be successful can we and i just feel like there's this is okay ottawa media you are i can't get over that you are you are and it's not just the media it's the other stuff uh yeah being a captain up here comes with some responsibility you know what brady could have said no thanks how about being a captain but he accepted that's what i'm saying he could have said no thanks to being a captain he didn't say no when they gave him the sea he didn't say no when they gave him
Starting point is 02:14:01 generational wealth and you know uh and i can't play again in the finals yeah no one will be surprised i can't i can't blame him for taking that route and you can't blame anyone for not respecting that route yeah but i think it's time we start saying okay then you're just too soft to be here some people are some people are not zach hyman's a guy that can handle the heat conor mcdavid's a guy can't handle the heat leon dry saddle can handle the heat austin matthew scored 69 goals here he can handle the heat william kneelander shows up every year in the playoffs that they make it he can handle the heat if you don't you can't that's fine you went and and you and you made your choice and that's fine if but but we do know but but you don't get to then talk
Starting point is 02:14:45 about how you're the big tough kachuk brothers right you don't get to say that it can't be both ways and the next staged fight that you guys start and lose to a 37 year old it's not gonna be as yeah there was a moment there where the kachuk's like wow like these guys now people are gonna be like yeah okay we have another stage fight yeah okay okay well all right and and this is what i'm talking about when it comes to love it this is what i'm talking about like olympics best on best and everything you yard sale an entire line with all those fights off the top yeah um and it's like oh okay well i guess i'll just play matthews and larkin and boldy and friggin all these killers that we have in our lineup a little bit more you do that in ottawa
Starting point is 02:15:37 it's like thanks you fuck like all right uh hey fabian we need you out there like yeah it's it's harder i think i think adam you're right in that europe our opinion of brady is allowed to change now that he's gone from captain where he's gonna he would have been the first person to lift the stanley cup for ottawa when gary betman's there and handing the cup over to the senators if they won the stanley cup he gets first crack at it he's the leader of the team and now he goes to a place where there's less media pressure and he's who knows how far down the list buddy it's gonna be bark off matt kachuk fucking brad marsh and uh gus for his how many guys before it's brady and he has signed up for that and yeah he's fine with that that's what he has wanted so our opinion of
Starting point is 02:16:29 somebody who's chosen less media pressure less responsibility in terms of his locker room presence everything that comes with being a florida panther he's chosen that so our opinion of him can change and and should be evaluated on what he currently is and if he wins a cup a cup and they want to gargle beer and do whatever they want to do that's great but it does it does mean you're like your opinion of you has changed yeah and like and what you were sold as in ottawa is objectively not true and the people that are bearing that out the most right now are Sens fans yeah and I think Sens fans should be happy that Brady has moved on because he's clearly proven that he wasn't right for that responsibility the responsibility of being captain of a Canadian
Starting point is 02:17:15 team and in that market he clearly wasn't set up for that and now you can judge all of his words now that we have a conclusion to his story in Ottawa you can judge all of the words that he said while he was there where he didn't wasn't completely truthful to you fans and to the media about his tenure there which is a kind way of saying he's a liar and now you have your story written about brady and you should say yeah he wasn't built for this and we're gonna get players who want to be here and are ready for that responsibility can i also just say this you should go after players who want to be there the panthers have done that now now it's the yeah uh and like you look at connor hellebuck leaving winnipeg it's not because connor
Starting point is 02:17:56 hellebuck didn't want to stay in winnipeg he's been there a long time no signed along to he's just upset with the organ everybody understands that that's the organization's fault yes i think you have to equate what is going on in the circumstance of the team and the player that is leaving like larkin i don't think it's media pressure that has pushed him out of detroit no i think that's them sucking that's pushed him out of detroit jesse i think it's just it's his one playoff appearance in his first year and then a years long of just nothing i think that's what's pushing him out and brady you look at his situation and we can kind of explicitly see what has led to this decision to go to florida and i think every circumstance is different and
Starting point is 02:18:36 and which direction are the jets going in up or down they are kind of treading water here from what they were last year i'm gonna go with down because they went from president's trophy to lottery right so hard to blame hellebuck even if there's complicated feelings about it i know red wings fans are mad at larkin because you could argue they're on their way up but at the end of the day he's given you a decade of his life and has nothing to show for it the sins are we're ready to wreck shop next year totally and he's gone and to a divisional rival can i holy shit Can I ask you a question? What happens if this doesn't work in Florida?
Starting point is 02:19:17 That, to me, is going to be the more stingy. Literally, everyone cries tears of laughter. He goes to Vegas. Yeah. Yeah. Well, but OK. Brady had an injury where he couldn't see on his way to the bench. And everybody thought in the playoffs, well, he's got to be hurt to be playing like this.
Starting point is 02:19:33 Right. Or at least to not be producing like this. Because, Jesse, you streamed the series and you thought Otto was good. Right. Yes. They just didn't win any games. And that happened. I'm not trying to be a shit.
Starting point is 02:19:43 I'm literally saying they just didn't win it. And then Ridley Grigg. And then Slapshot. I hate him. I'm out. I'm only saying. But if this doesn't work, yes, we all laugh. Point and laugh, for sure.
Starting point is 02:19:57 I got to kind of say that Marchand had surgery. Barkov blew out a knee last year. He's back. He looked good at the World Championships. This team isn't that old, but it's not old in terms of age. It's miles. think of the think of the they have to lead the league in games the the wear on matthew kachuk's body the wear on brady's body like these guys so there is there's some concerns there and i'm
Starting point is 02:20:24 interested in that now the last thing i want to leave you guys with if we're moving off of brady is uh at a press conference that happened during the recording of this show don't go too far steve oh um yarmo kekalainen spoke about the bowen byram trade but more importantly confirmed what we all expected which is alex tuck is quote-unquote headed to free agency but seattle who was supposed to be the front runner that's shifted oh can you name the team that alex tuck at this hour is rumored to be going to can you tell me who reported this or will that give it away well no uh cj oh yeah okay so that won't give it away cj's one of them yeah i say that because he's a national reporter yeah if you say a reporter i'm like oh they cover oh like a local guy you
Starting point is 02:21:08 No, no, no. No. For Tuck? No, no. Like what team? Yeah. No, no. I know.
Starting point is 02:21:15 What team for Tuck? Can I have a conference? And by the way, Kekalainen said he's going to be missed, but we'll be fine. No conference. Just guess a team. Just name a fucking.
Starting point is 02:21:26 A 31. Come on. Come on. For a dollar, name a woman. Think through it, but you don't get any more hints is what I'm trying to say. No, no.
Starting point is 02:21:33 Think about it, but you don't get any more hints. Okay. I was going to be like, what conference? What division? just tell me this isn't yeah um someone who probably needs scoring i have a guess someone who has cap space let me go you know what they have a crazy amount of cap space
Starting point is 02:21:51 chase that bag let's go chicago blackhawk oh i love that i love that all right all right adam says he loves it so i assume it's not right yeah my guess is gonna be philly oh now you're both uh so you're in the right conference ah in fact jesse you're in the right division now name the team dang it carolina jesse i'm not giving you any answers carolina has about an alex tuck sized so hole in their cap space you can agree with steve by the way you don't have to pick a different answer i totally bet i'm going to we have left the islanders uh-huh new jersey uh-huh pittsburgh uh-huh you said carolina i said carolina and then uh my original guess of philly was not correct and i think that i've named all washington's oh new york and washington so the rangers and uh
Starting point is 02:22:41 washington how old suck he's 30 you know what that's a ranger's ass signing i'm gonna say new york you know what i'm gonna say because this is the adam wilde tree to bark up the pittsburgh penguins you're all wrong ah dang it the washington capitals really yeah that's a v gone i i don't know well here's the thing if he plays this season it's his last yeah he's not playing past the season so you sign tuck you have both of them for this season and then now i have you'll have an ovechkin size hole that he helps fill i have the term basic the basic term okay of what this contract's gonna look like do you have this because cj tweeted it but adam doesn't have it i don't have it cj has it like i have it no no but what i'm saying like have his rights been
Starting point is 02:23:29 traded no but we kind of know the basic thought of what he wanted he's just doing his job steve's not being surprised wait a second i don't get it wait a second hold on how does he know that who's his source it's news to me damn it sorry this is my first ever podcast oh yeah sorry so we have we have the do you need to get to your live stream too so i know i know i know you gotta wrap up here um okay maddie's like yeah we have canada switzerland stream okay what do you think it is it's eight years oh my god eight years well 11 jesse 10 and a half 10.6 oh he had the same amount of points as matthew nyes just throwing that out there not great yep maybe buffalo does trade for matthew nyes later today i guess we'll find
