back from the dead well not quite
they're dead i keep telling you the leafs are dead we're watching a reanimated corpse a zombie
and in furious dragging them into the black lagoon oh it's the best it's the best and they
might not come out of it they might not bruins might come out and win game seven again like
they did in 2013 and 2018 but i live here i'm so comfortable i'm so comfortable bruins fans how
are we feeling today you comfy you all settled in you feeling good how's the media in boston
feeling are they are they optimistic i think pete blackburn tweeted that he turned on a radio
station it's probably wei the big one but uh he didn't say which one and somebody said that they
should make bergeron coach he's like so that's where we're at oh i you think game seven is your
ally i was born in it molded by it i didn't see the second round until i was already a man
dude it's it could be a repeat but i know which team and which fan base is more comfortable right
now it's the leafs when are we the second most neurotic team in a series i don't think that's
ever happened in in our adult years never never the last time i think i can remember that really
happening is when the ottawa senators were regularly better than the leafs in the regular
season least would qualify like sixth or seventh and then sweep them and just sweep them it made
no sense like they're talking about if the bruins lose game seven they might fire jim montgomery
like that that's nuts that's nuts to me and they're gonna lose all mark which was already
sort of built in i mean like we already know the massive changes that are coming to the leafs
they could win this series against boston and i still think they're all coming like i i think
the core four trade is coming head coach firing president firing i think they're all happening
whether they win this or not they got to make it i think at least three rounds deep they're dead
they're playing with house money it's the best it's the absolute best and the bruins
are on the precipice of doing something.
Apparently, I was told yesterday during the stream,
no team has ever done.
No team has ever blown a 3-1 series lead
in back-to-back seasons.
In North American professional sports history.
In North American professional sports history.
Forget the NHL.
Baseball, basketball, it's never happened.
The Bruins?
Them?
I wouldn't have called that.
And here we are.
That's why we watch.
it's the best how do you feel after last night like you know no i mean physically how are you
feeling oh real shit real bad real not good the voice is tired huh the voice is hanging on by
no but like i went to bed at like freaking 1 30 a little after 1 30 woke up uh wife bought me an
extra half hour i got up at 7 30 drove leo to daycare i put my head down i don't think i slept
for a nap and then now i'm here with my my pals jesse how are you feeling oh i'm feeling good
yeah game seven yeah i don't know i i feel like so we're telling each other lies now
i i always felt like it would go this way um you tweeted it i said it a couple i said it on the
podcast like uh i don't know if you guys listen but you responded and and you didn't really
believe me i kind of convinced you towards the end of it it was in the bet mgm big story on on
monday you did say that and and now we're here also on the boston pizza live show i joke that
this is how it would go and they would lose in game seven but now that they're here everything's
out the window like momentum i feel like in a playoff series it matters game to game but once
you get to game seven you can throw everything out the window and it's kind of this own island
where everything else exists you know they they clearly carried something from five to six in
that series just based on the way boston started very nervously in game five and then once again
various very nervously in game six and going into it it's like okay one team can't win at home one
team can't close out a series and who's going to be more nervous and it was clearly boston
and that was that was awesome to see that they can shake that boogeyman and you don't want to
say that they're better team with austin matthews but there's a mentality that goes into playing
without austin matthews where you got to clamp down and play a different style of hockey that
everybody else has to step up and they are doing that which is exceptional to see the streak of
not scoring three more than three goals in a game psychotic is still happening and how many games
is it now 12 i believe last night was was at 12 so this would have been 13 13 straight playoff
games they haven't scored more than three goals oh my god that is just absurd and thank goodness
that without matthews they're playing this new style of hockey where they're just not allowing
anything they're trying to play good defensive hockey it's worked for a couple games but
the scoring has always been an issue and even in this two-game winning streak it hasn't been
solved no which is problematic and like your point to even if they win this they go on let's say they
put up a fight against florida but if they still don't score goals you realize that there's still
a problem with the roster and how it's constructed how it performs in the playoffs there's so many
layers going on here like we didn't talk for hours and we will um yes yes we certainly will
someone uh brought up there is the potential for the leafs to win this series and average
two goals a game and and and what was the problem after four games scoring you guessed it no the
golden oh yeah well like i mean everybody was blaming the scoring but yeah i mean it was both
dude they lost three out of four the idea it's both now and and i gotta i guess you can win with
one i got a text last night sometimes uh from a buddy of mine who covers the jets uh and it was
just a great observation isn't it amazing what happens when your star player is out and everyone
realizes they need to actually play a role dude like lines one through four last night didn't
matter the number of the line didn't matter no roll them roll them in the situation that makes
the most sense you know who's become my odd playoff favorite who just in very specific
situations connor doer along the boards yeah i i uh i liked his game i liked it that line had like
one bad shift that was it and even that they managed hey hey i'm gonna read you a kevin
pipetti tweet adam i know we love kevin pipetti we love as long as we love us some kevin pipetti
he's he's he's like the free version of sports net stats you know what i mean like everybody
gets to use kevin pipetti's tweets i like that so i'm gonna read his tweet but i'm gonna leave
out the name okay team high 93.4 expected goals for percentage for blank tonight he was also on
for one of toronto's goals his line was excellent who is that david kauf david freaking kauf
he was great david friggin conf i like ryan reeves on this team yeah um i i like david
conf in this team they don't complement each other at all um conf when he plays with two
fast wingers which he did with yarn croak endure well i think you said it last episode which is
reeves seems like an early series guy yeah he's not what they need right now
like batman like he's he's just not um he's just not what they need right now and there he was
at the beginning of the game um before they're walking out everyone's in uniform except him but
he's still there jumping and hyping up yes like he's still playing his role that is a selfless
teammate that's that's great stuff but conf in these tight games needs to play with these players
last playoff um he played with a combination of guys but i think the leafs had a fourth line
against tampa that was really effective i think it was conf aston reese on his left and lafferty
on his right and it was great and it was just a pain in the ass like to shut a team down i think
you need to be able to skate with them and when reeves is out there that's not exactly what they
do they're they're a little bit more of a of a of a four checking team they can't be chasing the
play around because they're not going to catch it but uh they're hitting everybody and that line
need to be in the trenches and in the leafs third line of holmberg um robertson and gregor was more
of a like a utility fourth line than the fourth line was and having having robertson and gregor
who kind of complement each other because they play kind of we have speedy legs and we just move
around a lot we do guys play either wing as well the leafs have a lot of that they have a lot of
flexibility throughout the lineup and now like adam i don't know where you want to go with this
but someone asked me an excellent question for last night's lfr about the lineup for game seven
well i think you want to talk way way we got to talk about game six so i know with the ryan
reeves thing he played himself out of the series and just like his skill level isn't there where
you can just plug them in and it's going to be fine and that's okay he's a step slower and it's
noticeable when you get to this point in the season and everything is is micro analyzed and
it's not there you know and that's that's fine that's why you have more than 12 skaters that
you can plug into your lineup and it's it's no gregor's time remember when the leafs didn't
have cap room to have more than 12 skaters oh my god yes you know um like it's it's there's
no cap in the playoffs it's it's a good thing yeah vegas knows um like it doesn't need to be
about reeves um like i saw they were taking reeves out of the lineup for game six and i'm like oh
okay and then they put in gregor i'm like god that makes sense like i haven't been the highest
on that player but his legs coming in fresh and uninjured deep in a playoff series that's a
miserable experience for everyone who's played the first five games of that series that sucks
noah gregor's really fast like whatever you like or don't like about his game you can't catch him
not if you're this tired and this beat up and like you saw what tampa was battling injury wise
at the end of their florida series boston's contending with the same thing the leafs are too
they're probably thankful to have someone who can do all that and one thing the bruins didn't have
a lick of last game last night and gregor helped contribute to it time they didn't have time
or check the least for check anything so starting off in the first period uh you know really uh the
leafs come out strong again marsh and uh midway through the period takes a penalty trying to kind
to get Bertuzzi he kind of um he was previously cross-jacked down by Domi and I was like oh boy
that might be a penalty and it wasn't because it shouldn't be in game six yeah right well I
yeah it was a bit of a it was a bit of a lifetime achievement roughing yes yeah because I didn't
both sides they missed a couple calls it was bad yeah I didn't think that that was ignored
ignored they didn't miss a thing they saw all of it they're looking at it and they choose not to
call it because it's yeah it's it's game six game seven roughing right and that's that's what you
expect and as leaf fans boston has done this so much to us and we've yelled and screamed about it
so long that you we've almost become numb to it like oh yes but this is the way it always was
like and and it took us it took us the better part of a decade to figure it out i didn't even
mention mcavoy i think breaking david camp's nose in the lfr yeah i saw while i was uh sending all
the footage to drew i was scrolling through twitter and i saw the clip and i went oh yeah
yeah and that's the sort of thing we would have focused on forever yes uh in the past and like
uh it happens man i'm over it uh Leafs outshot Boston 10 to 1 through 15 minutes they were
uh the shots were 12-1 in favor of the Leafs through 20 minutes uh but they had not scored
and this felt like and i think it was um uh Jay Fresh that said this feels like it deserved to
win a meter classic and it was true uh chris johnson tweeted this after being outshot uh 11
2 by the leafs in the first period of game 5 the bruins were outshot 12 1 in the first of game 6
what are the leafs doing guys when they are playing this well because boston did obviously
like game 5 clawback in the second but when they are playing a tough defensive leafs game
which is weird to say what are they doing who the bruins are the leafs what are the leafs doing the
the Leafs are um not letting Boston get the perfect shot which is what Boston's looking for
and the Leafs are obviously not um both are equally ineffective but by the looks of it um
the Bruins are looking for the perfect shot it doesn't present itself they don't score the Leafs
are going you know what we're just going to put everything on net and Swayman's too good for that
and they don't score um the the bruins are getting more and more um slowed down in the
neutral zone by the leafs more and more they are getting stopped up by sticks and feet and whatever
um at the blue line and the leafs are blocking them um i thought it was hilarious near the end
of the second period i knew the bruins were out shooting the leafs on the second period
but on over the course of the game the Bruins had 10 more shot attempts so I would like to know the
shot attempts for the first period because it's it's obvious um like watching the game I didn't
think the Leafs had the puck that much more than Boston in the first period um I thought it was
just nothing was getting through it felt a little like watching Nashville Vancouver to be honest
with you yeah well you would know it was I mean it was higher event than that but uh because people
were saying oh this is the most boring game I'm like okay you guys haven't watched that series
I'll show you boring boring as a as a neutral as a neutral it's it's it's and and I'm I'm pro
Canucks in that series uh it's the most boring series and I think Canucks fans know it and I
think Preds fans know it too Preds fans are relishing it Canucks fans not so much yeah but
they're both losing their minds yes like while watching it because it's their teams like I was
not like oh gosh I wish this Leafs Bruins game was more exciting I've seen plenty of those
yeah yeah i'm good i'll take these ones uh i thought there was a lot of action in that first
period i think it was boring no i i know i think i think it was i'm gonna be honest with you
majority bruins fans and majority american commentators who were saying it was boring
and i was like i think john buchi gross uh he compared it he compared the leafs to the early
2000s devils after the first year in the sense that he's like they're playing a style that that
low event clog up the neutral zone that sort of stuff which i mean i you know the leafs can only
hold on to that for so long so second period starts well here hold on to that for a sec
just because i know you're about to get into the double minor yes that's exactly where i'm going to
go so a lot of people are talking about fire gee boucher nah it went at the end of all this nah
take him off the power play though he can't do that but i think a lot of this shutting it down
stuff like it reeks of gibouche that's gibouche hockey yeah if you're a lightning fan or a sense
fan you've seen this it yeah it reeks of gibouche do the leafs should do what they did with manny
malhotra which is like he's still there yep on the team um they had him doing the power play it
didn't work but they're like we like this person though so let's hold on to him and let's get this
spencer carbury person in yeah and lose him immediately but um you know with with gibouche
i just i'm i'm not sure he's in the right role um behind the bench i would be quite surprised that
they hired him to do offensive things considering that is not what he does when they got him i was
like cool and then they announced what for i'm like oh okay cool confused the hell out of me uh
four minute panel penalty from pasta on bertuzzi because bertuzzi's bleeding was just a high stick
to the um to the chin um and uh mccabe had almost scored actually right before that and i think
Oh, almost had one.
What a stop.
Leafs get only two shots over four minutes on the power play.
We're at about 5% on the power play in total for the playoffs.
That's right.
Not 15%, 5%.
They've converted one power play goal.
And here's the fun part.
And I asked CJ this.
I said, do they even bother practicing it?
And he said they are practicing it every day.
Well, as they should.
Maybe they're practicing it too much.
it was was the was it within the double minor where morgan riley beat two defenders and still
did the drop back yes yes yes oh i don't remember yes but yeah i was yelling and i'm and and now
he's like like everly's trying to sleep like stop screaming at the tv i wasn't sure if it was on
that one or later in the game but it's we have to he was ahead of the play and he still decided
to stop and drop back the puck and it made no sense and i don't know if maybe they're sticking
too much to the plan and they refuse to improvise at all because stuff like that's absolutely
egregious so i don't know like i don't know how you fix it at this point because it's just bad
let me throw something out there because we we i mean listen the leaf should have more than one
goal that's terrible um you know when we look at playoff numbers dropping from the regular season
you know what's great about the regular season is you don't have to play 82 games against the
Bruins yeah dude you play you know some good teams that just happen to have a bad penalty kill
you play against some bad teams you play against some mid teams your number is is gonna go up
now some people are freaks like the Edmonton Oilers who scored nearly half the time on the
la kings but um i i i want to give the bruins credit their penalty kills really good like
anytime the puck even leaves the vicinity of a leaf stick it's gone well and that's because they
play the man-to-man almost and it's crazy how they can do it but their their pk can skate and it's
part of my issue with the least pk is their especially their forwards the doers the yarn
croaks the marners these guys can skate and they still collapse in just too deep i don't understand
And the Toronto Maple Leafs, on their own PK, will just let you have the puck at the
blue line.
They will not challenge you.
And five on five.
Yeah, and five on five.
There's a lot of collapsing.
And I understand maybe there's a shot blocking advantage, but I don't see how charging a
guy a little bit, not actually charging him and getting a penalty, but charging at him
and forcing mistakes, which is what the Bruins do a good job of, I don't see how the Leafs
can't do that when you've got the legs.
even even like a noah gregor who is very fast they can oh they're all fast they're able to
they're able to just kind of go in and out like water bugs i'm not understanding the the maneuver
maneuvering on that but like if you're a big team big slow team i can understand it if you've got a
bunch of witherspoons out there so you have four or four tyler myers or four nikita's adorabs out
there i get it end to end yes yeah and not end not end to end but you know what i'm saying right
back to back like a snake you got four michael mccarrens out there yeah it's like you got big
boys and and they don't move like that man you've been doing that series for too long that's a lot
that's the name man i know everybody at that series wow so well uh my point is i don't understand
that for the leaps but the boston bruins are doing a good job on the pk now i will say this
the only team worse than the leafs and the leafs cannot be worse than them at any point is los
angeles kings who went five games against the edmonton oilers and did not record a power play
goal that can't happen there you go at least at least aren't the worst yeah yeah yeah hey guys
applause toronto that's it yeah you know and that's what we're aiming for just not the worst
and the odds of that improving in game seven are so slim oh yeah and the the kings can't improve
yep yeah why we got the one we got them they're gonna be stuck at zero for the rest of time just
just bring up that picture of george bush on the aircraft carrier mission accomplished
um four minute penalty as i said only two shots five percent on the power play um practicing it
every day joseph wool though uh not really being tested he took his second shot of the game
seven minutes into the second period that means um with 27 minutes into this hockey game boston
had two shots uh wool was finally tested about a minute and a half later the pass the line was
threatening but he kept it out uh and it during that play we had the mcavoy conf potential broken
nose and i gotta give i don't know if it's broken i don't i don't think it was a bloody nose yeah
um i'm sending it to jesse right now if we if we want to look at it you know i think in the regular
season this would be called an interference call because conf doesn't have the puck i didn't love
it but at the end of the day this is the playoffs and i would never expect something like that to
be called never never game one maybe like early in the series yeah maybe yeah okay okay game five
six no way seven you'll you'll get penalized for saying anything yeah about it yeah um i didn't
see a ton of complaining no i'll give i'll give leaf fans a lot of credit on that too because it
seems everybody finally gets it well i mean from like camp and like the leafs no well they someone
has gotten to sheldon keith and said calm the fuck down i think he's thinking about how he's
not gonna have a job in a week and he's finally calmed down well it's not helping remember that
press conference after game game four yeah it looks like so sullen i don't think i don't know
how you get fired up when everybody's like yeah you're not gonna be here in two days i don't
remember when he was most recently fined which is a funny sentence now that i think of it um
but someone at some point told him you catch more flies with honey and um like a simple look down
at the pad shake your head get your anger out however you need to just don't scream at the
officials yeah this i didn't i actually didn't mind this play at all maddie if you want to bring
it up the oh it's not working oh my gosh um the when you see comp go for the puck it like
just passes and then McAvoy hits them like I feel like that's at least okay in the playoff yeah not
great yep it's not an egregious non-call right I'm I'm a little bit you know people were like
I hit him with his back and pretty close to elbow yeah like no he's aiming with his elbow there and
like I said it's not it's definitely a penalty if you're calling it by the book and the rule of the
game of hockey it is a penalty but in regards to the referees calling something like this
in game six of the playoffs i'm like okay we're not going to get that every time well no exactly
and here let me let me quote uh every hockey player or bruins fan who's seen this hit you
reach i teach he's camp is reaching and that is a no-no wham yeah and it's not like the puck didn't
just fly by like it was right there he hits them that's okay and i will i will get over that one
y'all get over yeah exactly and you know it was great to see him back too he looked a little
i was surprised yep i was too it was nice to see him back drew uh was in my uh headphones
during the stream he's like yeah the spotter's gonna take him out i don't think he missed a
shift no and i we they said it on the broadcast too yeah like uh um regular season he gets pulled
yep 100 uh boston gets a power play when uh joseph wool swings his stick out for a poke check
trips uh that was the penalty that was of all the things yeah of all the things the leaves did
that was the worst but it was definitely labushkin who was pushing him down yeah i think he lost his
footing you think in the hole i thought labushkin kind of got him from by i don't know if it's
necessarily a chip but he definitely pushed him it's yeah he pushed yeah you're allowed like it
it was it was um the behind the net cam i think it was um they showed the replay because labushkin
was in the box we were talking about on the stream we're like wait a sec i don't think that
was bush i think that was wool and then we watched it back and the conclusion i came to i need to see
it again was wait a sec it was no one so here let me just i can't we can't do the gif until i pause
it so the stick kind of if you want to pull up that one the stick gets in there yeah oh yeah like
the it's a trip it's a penalty see it's hard to tell from an image but it's very hard i'll be
honest with you i felt it was a penalty the whole time i was like nope the refs got that right they
have to call that they have trips over labushkin's foot and there's there's too many sticks there
yeah there's too much going on and to be honest with the the domey cross check and some other
things that the leafs did get away with i'm like okay i'll take that call well the one take that
call all day the one that the bruin uh bruins fans were going nuts about and i sort of missed
it in real time was holmberg on lori are we there yet uh not yet okay let's do yeah we should do
this uh well because like the the way this played out and joseph wall getting the penalty
sheldon keith was over the moon about that you know having labushkin coming out of the box and
not having to take the penalty right you know right joseph joseph wall taking a penalty in
stanley cup playoff the guy who's like i'm just excited to be here i wish fans of other teams
could properly appreciate how funny that is it's hilarious it's really funny it's amazing um
yeah so i mean listen we've got uh uh we got a pretty even second period in fact i'm not even
but i think boston outshot toronto 12-7 um but what happens later on in the period
is we get
a Holmberg boarding.
Right?
On Lorai. Mason Lorai.
Now, this one was controversial, and there
were a lot of salty Bruins fans
in the chat.
I collected all their tears.
I collected all
their tears. There's no way that's all of them.
Stop.
Secondly, I was just, you know, it was
great about this, and we'll break this down.
And I can understand the
frustration uh if you're a Bruins fan but I will say this you lived through the Johnny Boychuk
Zdeno Chara uh uh who else Adam McQuaid Thornton Milan Lucic era I mean still Brad Martian still
Brad Martian uh Charlie McAvoy was always always good at getting a little rat stick in there he's
amazing at it so low-key greasy so low-key and and and here's the thing like so what's so weird
is that we're now watching
from the other side of that
because we were the ones
in 18 and 19 going,
how could this not be called?
And I'm looking at the team
that is the most,
you know, they've got
the longest playoff streak
along with the Leafs.
I think it's eight years.
And they are complaining
about the same stuff
that we were complaining about.
And I'm like, you guys did see,
you have like Zdeno Char is a lot.
No, no, here, let me bust out
the same six chirps.
the cry child diaper baby cope it's crazy let me bust out the same shit i thought bruins fans
would be rational about this because it's like oh well you know we've been doing that for years
too it just happens uh i i just i remember seeing the hit in real time and being like
holmberg just killed a guy i didn't know he did that now i didn't know you could do that there
is some controversy well because laurie was holding a stick so jesse do we have the uh do
we have yeah i pulled up the one where he's got the stick so not a lot of people saw this angle
because it was on just one of the replays um like the nesson broadcast or whatever but
laurie's holding his stick as they go into the board and they're jocelyn they're going at it
and laurie's got a weird position number five there has a real good view of things
oh the ref yeah the ref sees it the whole way looking at it holy show every single thing we've
talked about today there is a linesman or a referee looking at the play yeah this is how
hockey works that's so funny well and uh buddy at the blue line too wow there's a lot of guys
on the ice looking at everything they don't miss it so he's holding his stick and homer goes in
there and pushes him off obviously it's boarding but smushes him pretty good yeah he smushes him
but like he's holding his stick yeah i think i think there's so many calls on both sides it
kind of evened out hey hey let's go back let's uh there's a theme here you reach i teach
mcavoy and camp get your hand off my stick yeah it's it's i mean listen is it the nicest
no is it a penalty in the regular season yeah yeah well probably my favorite thing in the chat
last night for steve's live stream was um was somebody was upset about that and they're like
bro one of your players licked one of our players like what are you talking about and then did it
again what's interesting though guys is these used to be the big bad ruins to the leafs they used to
come in and physically dominate the leafs physically destroy them we'd sit in that in the
what we affectionately called the pure later studios yes uh where the pure later truck always
pulled up when we were used when we used to do it out of bell media i'm convinced it was free
advertising and they did it on purpose yeah right because they never paid for it i'll tell you that
and and i and we would we would go nuts and and we go like i can't believe i can't believe
and and you're sitting here and you're watching this and i go i can believe that well like the
and and the leafs did things that should have been called but again it's game six boston did
things that should have been called but again game six stop stop complaining to the ref well like
you watch the leaves get brutalized year in and year out and and you're like yeah but it's the
tide is turning it's going to get better it's going to get better it's going to get better
and you watch it steadily get worse and then the vegas golden knights win the stanley cup last year
with a team of exclusively dudes who are six and up except for one guy axe murderers and you're
like dude the other night um did you see what alex petrangelo did to tyler second yes yes holy
shit not even not no no penalty no no it was two minutes oh two minutes sorry but no like i meant
what i meant by that is like no suspension no financial now it was on the ice they ruled it
as a five so that they could review the play and once they reviewed it they reduced it to a two
which is nuts like because reviewing it confirms how bad it was and they decided it was still a two
no reviewing it showed how actually not bad it was that's what the refs decided oh they went
oh we thought he killed him as it turns out confirmed by the replay he's still alive so
two minutes i'll be honest we have complained a lot about the refs on this show for various reasons
i don't think and this is even when the leafs were down three to one i don't think we've
complained about the reffing at all in these playoffs game number four yeah four game number
four austin matthews was taken down for absolutely no reason behind the net by mcavoy he was ufc
he brought down to the ground and that was an egregious play and if you think like on that
instance if you're a Boston Bruins fans what did you yell at least fans in that moment you see all
this the playoffs who cares you didn't get that if you're a Leafs fan if you complain this is the
we're now on the opposite end of it we're in game six the other team lost and there's a play that
probably should have been called at some point but it wasn't it's just this happens in the series in
the playoffs let's play a game how many games worth of suspensions we're now two weeks in
to the stanley cup playoffs how many games worth of suspensions have been handed out
so far these playoffs i think zero there's nobody suspended yet correct how many dollars worth of
fines have been handed out nobody's been fine nobody's been you're wrong there's one person
oh who's fine adam should know this should i oh in the canucks canucks nashville series
Michael McCarron has been fined $2,000, not even the maximum, $2,000 for goalie interference on Vancouver's Casey DeSmith.
He crushed him.
Yes.
He absolutely, and Casey DeSmith was laughing afterwards.
In that play, there were Nashville fans who were arguing that it's not goalie interference because Casey DeSmith's out of his net and you shouldn't just protect goalies in any instance.
Well, no, that's how they run the rule book, though.
But then he's fine.
go back and watch it he didn't die so don't give him a penalty go back and watch it the nhl with
their entire chest has told the entire world this is the worst thing that has happened in our league
over the last half month yep yeah so it's the stanley cup playoffs you're allowed to kill
people the one thing i will say is that outside of the series that this particular series and a
couple others in the west uh dallas and vegas being one of them the series in the east didn't
last long enough for the hatred to build for things to get crazy they were done it wasn't
close it wasn't close it wasn't close it was what for a bunch of four ones the i overestimated
the islanders skill level because if they were closer to the hurricanes in terms of skill then
they could have got the hurricanes to participate in their nonsense the hurricanes outmatched them
so severely that like the islanders didn't even get the opportunity to play their game no and
that's not to say they weren't controversial calls because i think in in both series is there
were controversial calls like matt remby's head and there was a couple other instances man in the
series and like even the nashville uh vancouver won the the overturned goal like even that stuff's
like we could we could do 20 minutes on was that a goal was that a not florida tampa too but in the
end i think the national ended up winning that game and like in the end i think the results in
Florida in uh Carolina and New York will have all came out the exact same no matter how the
refereeing was yep I agree with Matt Rempe I'm caught somewhere between he's gonna kill somebody
and he has the worst whistle in the league like it's both he jumps into every hit and also they
call him for every yeah there's no leeway with that even the stuff that's like not even sort of
a penalty there was it was really early in the caps years I'm like okay he's just not allowed
hey hold on you're not allowed to talk about the rangers oh yeah oh yeah my bad my bad steve how
do you feel knowing all this being a i guess two years older a little bit maturer watching a lot
more hockey how do you feel about justin hall being called for a pick in game seven oh my god
against the tampa bay lightning oh my god what are your thoughts now i feel the same way now
that i felt about it at the time is it a call fine is it a game seven call you're out of your
fucking mind insane that was well jesse and i not only watched the game in person but we were right
over top of the play when it happened and we got to celebrate the tying goal and then have that
ripped out of from under us so you look at all this you look what mcavoy did to matthews you
look what holmberg did to laura you look what mcavoy did to camp you look at you're noticing
mcavoy coming up a lot yeah yeah you look at uh everything with bertuzzi and everything with
marshan and everything with domi and hall got a penalty yeah for a pick on sorelli that happens
you i mean you could have called three picks on the bruins in the first period on nize alone
yeah well that's what happens in the playoffs that's what happens in the playoffs and i think
the only reason it was called is because it was about to lead to a goal well it did lead and then
it did yeah it did lead to a goal that wasn't a goal like uh no shit two and five canadians will

Jesse, I've sent you two links on text, but I want you to use the last one I sent first.
And this is towards the end of the period.
and you know what we always talk about with the end of a period the last 60 seconds and the first
60 seconds they are extremely important the first 60 seconds sets the tone you have a good first 60
seconds you have a really good chance of owning the first five minutes i i always believe that
which is why it drives me nuts that the leafs until the last couple of games throughout this
entire era were slow starters and they've been doing great they've started great most of the
periods that they've played one of the things the leafs are always guilty of or have been guilty of
in the past is the last minute losing focus thinking more about the dressing room and not
locking it down and the leafs to me anyway in the playoffs felt like they let a lot of they call
them dagger goals goals that just stab you because it's the last minute and that's going to be on
your mind for the next 15 to 17 minutes however long the intermission is and like almost always
after like a go-ahead goal or like a huge game tying goal or a big hit oh dude you just spent
the last 45 minutes building to that point and give it up right away so jesse blake i'm gonna
let you take this one because you have been this player's booster since day one william neilander
william neilander oh i thought you were gonna talk about timothy lilliger we used to do
we used to do something called who wore the crown for a sponsor that we had and jesse picked william
neilander every single time for i picked william neilander for the entire season and then the world
ended and i never got to finish the bit that's right i know i did it from game one until march
what what game 70 uh march uh 12th yeah it was a predator's game it was like we had your birthday
party that weekend yeah we shouldn't have yeah and i and i blew out the cake with my hand and
then we didn't know what was going on and then the monday they didn't let us get together with
anybody by the way i went out to two bars that weekend i went out to your party and then i went
to a huge packed jack asters bar with some friends that were in town from halifax and then on the
monday morning i was like i probably shouldn't have done that i didn't realize how serious this
was i just uh but anyway yeah sorry yeah yeah up until the world shut down i gave him it was
essentially the player of the game award yeah whoever the crown was i gave him every single
game because he deserved it because i was i'm a willy supporter to deepest of my core and these
are the thing this is why william nylander is the perfect leaf he's never going to be phased in any
big moment he's going to be able to deal with the media for his entirety of his life and he's shown
that that nothing phases him and when in the playoffs when you just need a simple goal what
did he do he threw the puck on the net now to your credit like um this is something you always hate
on with the least them closing out periods and they won a huge face-off i forget was it j2 wins
the face off yeah yeah because jt it was jt nize and willie on that line and they they run their
play willie goes around the side after receiving the pass from willigren and he just skates to the
outside he makes his little dangle at the blue line which is a beautiful thing which he loves
doing he made his own luck oh yeah yeah like it's a lucky goal but he made his own luck with his
feet you you have to you have to be good to get lucky and william nylander from way far out throws
it right on net it goes off uh was it mac it goes off mcavoy and that's all mcavoy bounces in i was
gonna say like oh tavaris good job in front like dude that's that's on mcavoy like not only does
it go off him but like he takes away swayman's eyes that's all him yeah where's the up close one
but yeah like this is this is willie to a t and we're at like when we get to the end of it like
that's that's the one that's really special the fact that he's able to do that hook slow essentially
come to an almost stop and then get past beecher and uh with that much speed that quickly just show
his stride strength you know they always talk about uh it's not about your top speed it's about
how quickly you can get to your top speed and he's one of the quickest players uh with a puck you
just like give me remember his old twitter bio give me the puck give me the puck those are two
really good skaters yeah and for him in this moment here recognizing that there are bodies in front
JT standing there McAvoy standing there Swayman doesn't have the best angle on the puck I might
as well shoot it time's running out and I got myself into a position where I can get the puck
towards the net just through my skating ability and he did it it led directly to a goal and that's
that's just beautiful stuff he's looking for a rebound there exactly and that's the shot is
somewhat low and and this is where I think I need just about knee height I just about knee
I need a little more of this from the Leafs.
You talked about Boston looking for the perfect shot.
The Leafs have been better at it, but I'm still seeing,
and I think it's hard for a guy like Mitch Marner, who is dazzling.
I think it's hard for a guy like him to simplify.
It's been better, but there were times last night where I'm like,
Mitch, you have, people forget because he goes so long without shooting.
He's got a great shot.
Please just put it on the net.
Put it through some legs.
If it goes off one leg, that's fine.
I'm not asking you to Tyson Barry Toronto Maple Leafs era
Slapshot it from the point
When somebody's two feet in front of you
I'm asking you to put a sneaky shot through
And I think Nylander and Marner especially can do that
When you've got Bertuzzi
You've got Nyes
You've got Tavares
You've got Domi
You know, sweep it around in the corners
You've got the line mates to be able to do this, guys
Well, let me say this
I thought Marner was a huge orchestrator
Of the Bruins' demise last night
Do it, tell me
because he does he takes too long with the puck sometimes um but last night the Leafs at times
were giving the Bruins the puck a little bit too much in the third period just you know dump it out
dump it out dump it out give it to him give it to him Mitch would get the puck and he would get it
into the offensive zone and he would hold it and he would look for a situation and he would hold it
and he would hold it and the Bruins plan all series long has been he's on the perimeter let
him hold it it's fine it's fine he's not dangerous except tick tock tick tock the clock is ticking
and i am living for the time wasting yeah i'm living for him every moment mitch marner has
the puck is the moment the bruins don't yeah and then the bruins realize that and they go boom and
they like skate into a situation um that they haven't really been forcing it's not advantageous
All series long and Marner would either put it long or send it to the point or get it low and Domi and Bertuzzi would do their thing. There were like two really solid shifts in the third period where that line was just playing offensive zone keep away and it was masterful. So that's an example of you don't have to be on the score sheet to have a huge impact on.
I completely agree.
But my point is I want more of this from Nylander and Marner specifically because they can.
Because I know that if they get five more shot attempts each, at least two of those register as shots and probably one or two of those are extra rebounds.
Now, let's have a look at this picture, Jesse, because this might be I sent you a picture and it's right.
It's the one before the text I sent you.
I sent these in the wrong order.
I apologize because this might be one of the greatest pictures taken in Toronto Maple Leafs history.
if I were William Nylander I would put this on the side of my house this picture is incredible
and it's the first one the first one just click on that first one yeah I'd paint this on my garage
like look at that shot look at all those jerseys in the front row hey people are wearing their
jerseys in the front row let's go dude there was a goal scored on Samsonov that I highlighted in
my LFR there were two Leafs jerseys visible in the entire photo and two Bruins jerseys
uh and then i think uh the tiebreaker went to hats and there was a leaf hat and a bruins hat
it was equal you can't see a bruins piece of merch out there and look at all the different
ones like there are several there's like five different leaf jerseys in a row you got uh like
the old finuf era logo you got the new one you got the old uh sundine era playoff jersey uh and
then you get to the new one the loophole one sort of enough era i didn't expect a jersey breakdown
from this photo no but it's true if we're talking about the goal itself i think the for me the first
star of the game is matthew i think the first star has got to be william nylander the second
star has got to be matthew nice his he was freaking great he was everywhere even on even
on willie's first goal matthew nice is right there in front of the net where he should be
it's beautiful and if there's a rebound he's putting that back in but on this goal here it's
a turnaround he sees willie coming up the ice but then he makes a blind pass to the middle of the
ice because he's so confident that he can make this past willie and it springs him and it leads
directly to a goal and it's it's like cold as hell like ice in his veins kind of stuff from a 21 year
old well it was fantastic and think about this like people are starting to talk uh uh about him
being a clutch playoff performer i was trying to think of every game of matthew nye's playoff
career there's not many game one against the tampa bay lightning the leafs die they get killed
uh so that one wasn't so good game two the leafs mop them i don't remember if nye said anything
that was what mitch marner's best playoff game yeah i don't remember if he had any points in
that game uh game three he's on the ice for the riley winner game four he's on the ice for the
kerfoot winner uh game five tampa takes i don't remember what he did game six he's on the ice and
helped set up the tavaris winner in ot game one against florida i remember he made a defensive
mistake cost a goal he also scored a goal and it was a freaking hot one it was remember the
between the legs and then bennett takes him out okay bennett takes him out so now we fast forward
to this year he's he scored that bit on the ice he scored the ot winner he set up what ended up
narrowly being the game winner it is the game winner it is yeah yeah the game ended two one
oh my god um and uh he did something else and oh he got a goal in game two a game that the
Leafs won and a great goal great goal set up on Marner huge impact player and like we were we were
coming up with uh we were doing our best his his goal was in game three that's the game they lost
oh my bad my bad that's okay it was a great setup we were doing our best to come up with who does
nize remind you of and you know people are throwing it out and some of them fit some of them don't
the best comparison uh someone said like in terms of what his ceiling could be think of prime
brandon sod prime brandon sod help the blackhawks win two cups yep big body can score goals can set
up plays can just be a dynamic offensive player uh i know some of you probably want a sexier name
in there i'll take the name of two cups i'll i'll take that name i'll take the big country i saw
lightning fans in the chat last night were like they said like nick paul someone said nick paul
i don't see nick paul necessarily because it's just a bit of a different thing you have like
30 something points this year like i like had more than 30 points yeah i i like nick paul a lot um
i saw a bunch of people say centers and i wanted to get away from that just because he's not a
center um so sod to me was the best comparison that i saw now matthew nyes is someone who played
10 minutes and 31 seconds in game number one and by game number six he had 19 minutes and 10 seconds
on he's been building he's building keith that i think the first uh first game lineup decisions
are questionable looking back on it and having matthews out has forced his hand into these
lineups and you see who the real performers are now and there's it's egregious that matthew nyes
played 10 minutes in game one that's got to be a special teams thing like they did take a lot of
penalties they did and he doesn't uh kill penalties not on the first power play so he's not on the
first penalty kill they usually put him out there late can i say something about the power play that
i meant to say when we hit on it earlier do it whenever i see the second unit go out there
they get a shot and i'm just wondering why they don't start with them at one point do we just say
okay whatever line like i'll be honest uh whatever line domi seems to be on offense seems to happen
dude and i and i'm listen i'm i'm banging this drum because this guy is a three million dollar
player who is dying to be a toronto maple leaf and i understand that you're betting on talent
every time you put tavaris and marner and nylander and all these guys out there tell me why they
can't put that other line out there just to try it i saw last night people saying that geeky should
be on instead of Pasternak on the on the Bruins first power play unit yeah oh because the Bruins
are not thrilled with their power either they like they split it up where they have both like
of their top end scorers on both uh units yes and that was a change they made late in the season and
it's worked so far in the playoffs for them here's here's an adjustment that seems so obvious that I
don't know why they don't try it second unit starts you literally just inverse the power play
so 40 seconds to start the power play goes to your second unit um if you lose the zone or whatever
at around the 40 second mark you switch the top unit that way yarn croak who's on that second
unit that is now the top unit um can get out there once the top unit is done with camp and doer
which is what you want anyway after the power play it's what they always go to
just do that i don't understand why they don't do that i think there's an idea that you don't
want to like you kick off your power play and like matthews isn't out there marner's not out
there willie's not out there i think you're you're not guaranteeing yourself that that time with
those guys on the ice because you never know how the puck's going to play out like there might be
an instance where you can't make the line change and then you played your first unit for uh 80
seconds and then you're you're looking like an idiot because you didn't play matthews for 80
seconds yeah i think that logic is perfect jesse it's perfect the flaw in it is one for 20 like
if i suggested this in february you could kick me down the stairs because it would be a stupid
suggestion after what we've seen in these playoffs why why not yeah like why the hell not try it
um it's i mean it's my main criticism with this team otherwise they're playing pretty well i'm on
the side of switching up the personnel i don't think there's any reason if for in the entirety
of the universe that morgan riley should be on the first unit anymore i don't i you know what i
had a bad switch on sometimes yeah i i tend to agree by the way don't we get a bad game that
yeah yeah i don't think i don't think morgan riley was great i don't think it's a great game
yeah no we haven't seen playoff dominant morgan riley like we did last year we haven't there's
a i really liked him in game five there's another level to morgan riley that he was not at last
yeah i've seen i've seen morgan riley be way better than that i agree with that wholeheartedly
and and let me say this they finally did put max domey on the first power play unit just because
of attritional reasons but i think again you know so you've got you got three quarterbacks on the
first unit and you got you got riley domey and marner at a certain point and you got tavaris
in front of the net and william kneelander on the half board you gotta change it up you have
got to get one one maybe two max playmakers out there and then guys like bertuzzi and yarn croak
who can do nasty stuff i think jt could be on that second power i think so too unit like i think
that'd be perfectly fine and and the way max domey's been winning face-offs i wanted to bring
because this is crazy i was going to save this for the end but let me tell you something here
Here's Max Domi's postseason face-off results
for the Leafs this year.
He has won 71.9%.
That's so ridiculous.
23 of 32.
And Terry Koshan had a great tweet last night.
I'm just pulling this up.
For both Domi and Tavares.
Domi was 12-2 on face-offs.
Tavares, 12-9.
Wow.
And these were not iffy face-offs.
These were face-offs that were cleanly won.
That's game five.
Or game.
game that was last night no last night max domia was uh seven for six and face off seven and six
seven and seven oh seven and he was seven oh seven and six oh okay sorry maybe that was game
five i got the wrong i got the right you're right you're right game five he was 12 and two adam when
you said that i almost said wow that's almost a carbon copy of his game oh okay well yeah sorry
i got the wrong i got the wrong tweet my point is it's the point he's been good he's been good
and and so use him in that use him in that and and bring Tavares back to the second line mix
these guys up look at let me just throw this at you what is the name the first power play unit
for the Boston Bruins who's on it uh Marsh and McAvoy I know pasta is not on it so this is where
it gets difficult coil geeky I want to say Heinen was there but he did not play five guys
so no i think that was so steve technically speaking you are getting one of the powerplay
units right the problem is it's the second unit no way and a lot the guy you're looking for so
it's coil mcavoy geeky marshan and de brusque their first unit which is interesting brazeau
zaka van reams dyke pasternak shattenkirk no that's the second unit i know but they're
calling it are they are the bruins not doing exactly what i'm asking the leafs to do you know
Well, they split up their power.
That wasn't their power play unit all year.
And late this season, they split it up and they changed it.
And they had a new philosophy.
And early on in this series, it has worked for them.
The one thing the Bruins have done from game one through game six,
better than the Leafs the whole time, has been the power play.
And they're doing almost exactly what I'm asking the Leafs to do.
Come on.
So in the third period, Leafs get an odd break with a few minutes to go
where the Bruins are the Leafs had had iced it a lot um towards the end of the game and it was
one nothing still and if you're a Leafs fan one nothing might as well be zero zero uh it's not
it's not a it's not a comfortable place and if you're a Nashville Predators fan you're like you're
like I can't relate to that I don't know what that's like um if you're an Islanders fan I can't
relate to that I don't know what that's like as a Leaf fan three nothing four one those are not
scores that are safe i and and so uh what was interesting about it though is on one of the
icings joel edmondson i believe was the one that iced it and then tried to change and the bruins
argued with the refs hey the leafs have got to change these guys back as the least had put
morgan riley on the i didn't understand that at all and what i was blown away by is the leafs were
exhausted and they make the refs the boston bruins make the refs go back to the bench i think it was
their fourth line too it it was and they were doing and they just let the leafs rest yeah because
they so uh it was like calling a timeout i didn't i couldn't believe they were doing it i'm like
what are they doing so they wanted to draw up a play and i just don't think that's the right
decision uh i think you gotta have more confidence in your guys um take advantage of the fact that
your guys are killers and the leafs are tired like you gotta believe in them you can it didn't
it didn't lead to shit no the leafs won the face off i think so it was like it was a waste of time
it was a waste of time and the other thing is is that that was that was a bad choice you gave one
of the defensemen that the leafs are relying on to play good defense because they're certainly
not relying on him for offense and that's joel edmondson you gave him time to breathe
it all of them yarn croak was breathing out his ass like i i don't understand it i don't
understand that decision that's i was that's the strangest coaching decision the bruins have made
all series now later on that and maybe going to all-marking game too later on the Leafs get this
and this is one of the best most key Leaf goals and I by the way love the angle the Toronto Maple
Leafs have on this I just sent it over to Jesse because the Leafs are doing the smart thing so
Sportsnet's got Nick Andrade up in the gondola doing the over overtop shots the Leafs have
somebody who I think is in a similar spot but they just have a perfect angle because you know
the Leafs own the building they they they know and this is this goal that William Nylander scores
is one goal that I think in the past the Leafs we'd be talking about the Leafs going to overtime
Matt Fradden we'd be talking about the Leafs almost ending it the Leafs almost ending it
because they wouldn't convert on something like this because the pressure would be too great
because the fans are too loud because the media is too hard whatever it is was the excuse
At the end of the day, it's so great that you created all these offensive scoring chances
and the deserve-to-win-a-meters in your favor.
If you do not convert on them, though, they count for nothing.
And Willie does this.
So let's have a look at the play here.
Jesse, if we can just throw it up.
That right there, Jesse.
What?
That's exactly the spot I wanted you to go to.
He catches Swayman, who has been close to perfect.
There's a Bruins fan in the stint.
I'm sorry.
Close.
I keep getting caught up in that.
And look at the fans.
Look at the fans in the background.
They're already hands on the glass.
Oh, it's a renaissance.
They're salivating.
You spoiled this play with the picture.
Oh, why?
Because this is where the picture is from.
Oh.
Oh, yeah.
The picture we already did.
Oh, no.
The picture was from the last one.
No.
The picture is this goal.
See this right here?
This is where he takes the picture.
Oh.
Oh, I thought.
No.
He comes around and then he raises his stick.
No.
It's a different one.
because the lilligrant's on the other one it's a different one no yeah watch go back to the other
one look at that guy at the bottom of the screen he's having the best time that's the thing is that
they were very similar but lilligrant is running at him in the other is it not this this stick
raise here no when he comes around because he scored his raise he's because he cuts left when
he scores the goal sorry can i pause for a sec we the core four has to be better the core four and
And we're arguing about which William Nylander goal we're talking about.
Frigging right.
That's right.
Let's go.
And that is why you have a core four.
You have a core four because when a guy like Austin Matthews goes down,
there's supposed to be support for him.
Yes.
Yes.
And there has been.
Yes.
There has been.
Now, do we want the Leafs to continue to only score two goals a game?
No.
I'm okay with it as long as the other team scores less.
and we're looking at a situation here where the Leafs are getting the saves that they need to get
when they need to get them well you yeah you skipped over the wool uh robbery I don't even
know what Bruin it was I think it was well it wasn't coil I thought it was coil yeah so yeah
right before this the one where he sticks his paddle out when the puck comes to the front I
well yeah there's like three parts to it yeah Marshan tries to wrap it around wool blocks it
off the bruins put it on it hits riley in the chest somehow doesn't go into the net somehow
doesn't hit wall somehow just goes right over him bruins get it back in front and joseph wool
ice in his frigging vein i'm just having a good time
gonna go home play the piano friendliest abominable snowman ever just made the saves the leafs need
oh just so frigging refreshing now you're so good you said it on the last we said on the last
podcast and you said it on the stream last night it is revisionist history to think that he should
have started this series he wasn't great when he came back from injury he wasn't no i hate that
if the leafs lose tomorrow that will be part of the narrative it is it's a it's totally revision
it is you can say oh i always hated sammy fine there was no argument heading into the playoffs
uh that remember to take sammy out you got to put wool in and even if you look at the last
two games and you go that's indicative of what sammy is wool hadn't shown this what he's brought
in game five and what he's brought in game six he hadn't shown this since returning from injury
he hadn't you're totally right yeah where was he what happened well i think he fucking hurt himself
yeah i think that he was fine no like i don't think he was fine that was the problem what about
what about in march what about in april that's what i mean why have we reached till so he wasn't
healthy that whole time i don't i think he was fine i whatever the reason is like you know like
not giving him the net you didn't stop enough pucks yeah oh that's the beginning middle and
end i want i want to know where this was joseph wall well i'm okay with it being i'm not asking
questions i forgive him yeah so so after the game i want to know where it was uh well first off
with 0.1 seconds to go the Bruins score and thank god Willie had got that second one because this
is a different story oh my god I also don't think that the Leafs had would have been as
lackadaisical in the last second if so you know they were a little bit lax in the last second
I shouldn't let the goal and you can relax when you're up two goals with five seconds left yes
like things will be fine thank god I was streaming that game by the way because uh I watched a clip
this morning of willie's uh second goal the two nothing goal there's like still what two and a
half minutes to go in the game and joe bowen goes we're going back to boston again and i just want
to congratulate joe bowen on watching his first leafs game joe are you out of your mind well uh
i underrated with the wall stuff is how spectacular he has been he's been great oh yeah i think like
in a in this in a instance where for 13 straight games you do not score more than three goals in
a playoff game like to have a goalie who can stand on his head and give you a 950 save percentage at
any any drop of the hat like it's been awesome like this is what you need if you can't score
he sammy is extremely athletic he's athletic and he can pull off miracles and i think what this
decor needs is a goalie who you just know where he's going to be every time you know what wool
did really well last game uh much to the uh chagrin of the health of my heart is he played the puck
behind the net really well he he just makes his he makes life easier on his defense
um if you're a goaltender sometimes tend to your teammates i always say um no you played
the puck really well you know he's always going to be in the net and where he's going to be in the
net um whereas sammy's got a little bit of the bungee cord peter morazic thing and sometimes
it's really fun to watch him make these athletic saves because he's out of position um or he can
just do them um but i think joseph wool is you know what sammy remember we talked about you don't
know what he's going to be game in game out shift in shift out shot in shot out joseph wool is going
to be joseph wool from games 1 to 82 and beyond and unfortunately for the leafs i think they're
going to need another performance like that in game seven well you know what guys i want to say
this i think that the toronto maple leafs in game five played the first truly all-out playoff game
i've seen them play to that level they've had games where they've been very very good but that
game game five for me was i'm gonna fight you for every every inch they've they've won games
like like tampa was a two one two one win um leaf scotto played in that game sammy ironically saved
them um this is one where you could argue the least for the better team for the majority of
the game and one well so game five and game six but the reason i'm bringing up game five
is because oh game five yes they fought them for everything they fought the bruins for everything
and even if the bruins won a puck battle they're still kind of they're still on them even after
that and and they did it again last night and you know matthews you know it's just come up during
the show here that that he's made some progress but there's no determination on his availability
part of me thinks like that's great but i need this team to play like that whether he is there
or he is not because that is if you watch late into the playoffs and a lot of leaf fans frustratingly
and i get it because because i used to do this too you just shut off the tv and go f it i'm so
sick of this i'm so upset blah blah you know and i get it as a fan but when you watch these teams
that win in the playoffs and the Bruins were a team like this okay and the Bruins can be a team
like this so the Leafs got to watch out for it it's animal it's I am gonna I am going to I'm
gonna I'm gonna frustrate look at the Florida Panthers last year they were all over everybody
that played them all the time all the time yep and and that's why when these guys get to the
Stanley Cup final they're freaking exhausted they're they're beat up they're bruised they're
they're fighting injuries it's because that's what it takes and i'm finally seeing and i think a lot
of leaf fans this is why they're so thrilled after these last two games we saw the potential we knew
it was there but the leafs are finally seeing it in themselves and i need that to continue because
it's all for nothing if they don't win tomorrow night matthew nye's going to the bench after
setting up willie breathing out of his ass second guy butt breathing david kampf going to the bench
bloody nose doesn't miss a shift tyler bertuzzi bleeding from the chin stop crying bro
they stopped crying you you're spending too much energy to cry to complain to feel sorry about
yourself to argue with each other the leafs are finally taking out all their frustration
that Sheldon Keefe said they didn't have
on the Bruins.
For the first time this year,

register today at pmcfwalk.ca um now there was a uh there was a um this is spicy as hell there
was a clip uh there was a clip of tyler bertuzzi saying yeah there's probably a lot of frustrated
guys over there right now uh which i thought was good but to me all you can take all the the
comments post game and you can throw them away the only thing that i think that matters is jim
montgomery right here have a listen you got so much out of marsh and earlier in this in this
series you need more out of both him and pasta not go in for game seven your best players need
to be your best players this time here um i think the effort is tremendous and they need to come
through with some big time plays and big time moments i think marshawn has done that in the
series pasta needs a step up oh you know what i don't want a dangerous pasta i'll be honest
i like him to stay neutral you know i mean people are torn on this uh they think it's him showing
frustration you know it's a crack in the armor for for the bruins uh this is a coach honestly i
think with nothing to lose here they lose game seven it might be curtains for him a year after
winning the jack adams he probably should have been nominated again this year i think the important
thing about last year is that he blew a three one exactly that's more important than winning
the jack adams exactly and um he's turning up the heat he's turning up the heat on pasta it's a
challenge to one of the most talented players the boston bruins have ever had ever ever and that's
a team that's had some pretty damn good players who's been a better goal scorer over their career
like who we got like who's in the conversation phil esposito cam neely i think end of discussion
bobby or bobby or scored a lot well he doesn't i mean that's a unicorn okay but that's a defense
you're talking about talented people that okay fine goal scoring four words still sorry i forget
that bobby or ruins every conversation well i think derrick sanderson was a was a really good
player uh in the in the 70s he was like a big big time goal scorer score 60 i don't know if he scored
60 but he was pretty good like this is what i'm saying like so laughs and he just hasn't been
enough of a factor and i don't know if he's hurt or what even if he is hurt stop crying bro he's
definitely stop crying bro season he's definitely hurt with something i think everybody can kind of
see that and there's been enough hints at it that he's hurt but if you're out there he expects you
to perform and i think with with montgomery here yeah he's just he's emptying he's emptying the
the whole tool shed here he's trying to just do anything and and get anything going because he's
out of answers if you lose you're done and that's it and it's a shame for for pasta who's clearly
hurting that you know if you just shut down pasta it's like what i said last episode when somebody
brought up how tampa's uh kucherov merchants with with boston you go down that lineup who do you
expect to score pasta and if you shut him down there aren't really answers on the high end forward
who's gonna get you that goal i think for the least they have a couple guys who can do that
but on boston if it's all on pasta and he's a little hurt and you shut him down it's unfortunate
for boston because they can't get anybody else going you're not going to rely on no offense to
the other guys but you're not gonna rely on morgan geeky to get you going there you're not gonna
rely on a mcavoy to be bobby or if they score they score right but you want pasta to be pasta yes
and they're in a position where he's not that right now i think i think it was a really good
quote by jim montgomery because uh all in one he challenges david posternak who i think he needs
to piss off and he makes brad marchand feel better about himself and i don't i don't think
he does right now i don't think he's playing poorly he's playing well um but there's a
different vibe to brad something's been unbradley well i something's been i don't recognize in his
face the whole series yeah i don't recognize the least would never the least would stay away from
brad marshall oh yeah i don't recognize his version of brad marshall well it's because again
it's because bertuzzi's in his face all the time it's not him it's domey and i think not them it's
someone on their huge decor brad marshall did though have a great one through four games
absolutely oh yeah i think what you're specifically talking about is games five and six
yeah where the pressure's been turned up because they haven't been able to close out a series but
brad marshall he was a killer in what was the game he scored two goals uh four was it three or four
one of the ones in Toronto I think it might have been four where they went up 3-1 like he was
unreal like I think that was vintage Brad and like blowing a 3-1 lead kids let me tell you
something about that um you know there's been a couple instances in Toronto one they blow it to
Montreal and game five the first period was a little bit like the game five Montreal had
against toronto just not nearly as successful montreal scored three goals but they showed up
and blew the leafs out of the water um that first period game five was kind of like that and then
game six was a repeat uh but you lose game five even though you crawled back the leafs erased a
three nothing deficit in that game and blew it a minute into overtime talk about montreal yeah
talk about montreal now oh man we better win in game six because otherwise it's game seven
the raptors winning their championship they blew game five and we all thought the same thing
if they don't win in six they're not winning in seven every single person in the city thought that
if they don't win in five or in six they're not winning in seven they barely pull it off
thank goodness for kawaii leonard hitting those free throws but like this is a war of attrition
physically but the mental battle it's boston's going through it right now and if the bruins
were to pull this off uh and win in game seven i wouldn't put anything past them um just because
of how much of a of an anvil this team is carrying around with them we can relate we can relate how
many series should the leafs have won in recent years this should have been the bruins in 2019
probably should have been in 18 too they were up they were up yeah they had a better game seven in
2018 which isn't saying much um the leafs should have won i mean definitely the montreal one they
should have won a bunch of series but there's no way columbus should have been in the series either
oh for god's sake yeah you know they just kept beating themselves they kept beating themselves
And the Bruins are coming up against a really determined Leaf team,
but they're beating themselves a little bit.
This game seven is going to be fascinating.
I know you don't see the intermission panels,
but what struck me is when Kevin and Elliot specifically were talking about,
oh, the Leafs have been good, but Bruins have been bad.
Isn't that the first four games, but in reverse?
Yeah, I guess so.
Isn't it funny when one team plays better than the other,
how bad the other team looks?
man you know how many times this series have you looked at one of the teams and gone they look
great like none that the bruins didn't go up 3-1 because they were just
crazily outmatching and dominating the oh he's just kept making boneheaded mistakes and didn't
have the best i have to be honest sammy wasn't on his game they weren't getting saves they also
weren't scoring on the power play so like maybe the best thing about the series through four games
as the Bruins' penalty kill.
Yeah.
See, here's what I want tomorrow, guys.
Here's what I want.
Game seven, Leafs win.
Here's my preview for game seven.
Leafs win 9-0.
That's what I would like.
I think, by the way, as a Leaf fan,
that's what you deserve.
You have white-knuckled it
for almost a decade with these guys,
and I think you deserve a power play fiesta.
Boston takes two power plays.
You get a couple goals.
Maybe one of them's a double minor.
You get three, okay?
oh the power play is great and then and then and then you get a couple other ones uh throughout
you know five six nothing um crowds out of it they're hopefully like the leafs booed leafs fans
booed the leafs off the ice a couple games this series maybe we get that yeah into like an
intermission and then and you just get them down and you keep pushing i'd like a nine nothing win
is that too much to ask adam what have i been saying about the leafs for the past two games
they have nothing to lose they're already dead they're in zombie mode and for the last couple
games the Bruins have been playing like that character who's trying to hide the fact that
they've been bit it's the best Jesse what's your game seven preview what do you think's gonna
happen tight game I think again I don't think you get really blowouts you don't get you don't
get nine nothing three three two max yeah i i hope they score more than three goals for the
first time in forever like that would be very nice do we know if matthews like what's the
forecast all they said today at morning skate was that he did skate and that there has been
progress made but there is no update on availability how do you go about changing
the lineup with matt if matthews can play because i have a hard time just inserting him back when
you're just on a run you know what i do two straight games i put them on i put them on this
sounds ridiculous i keep the domi line domi marner bertuzzi i agree i put matthews between nize and
kneelander right and i and i put tavaris down to the third line i thought about that adam okay
thought about tell me why i'm wrong that's fine here's a tavaris kneelander nize is playing really
well okay leave it so put matthews between wait wait wait wait because oh yeah domi bertuzzi
marner bad good good numbers leave it camp with doer and yarn croak good leave it you you now have
a choice between holmberg can do center or left wing robertson can do left or right wing gregor
can do left or right wing you take one of those guys out i earnestly don't give a shit which one
take one of those guys out put matthews in the middle of that line and you think austin first
off you could limit his minutes based on that which is good this is what i'm saying if math
can't play 25 minutes if he plays game seven adam i think you'd be so lucky to even get 15 out of
them i honestly think you're unless the leafs get a bunch of power plays they're not then don't play
well you know what jesse players and they're freaking stupid yeah i think i think the whole
reason he's out right now is because somebody had to tell him no yeah i think yes if if it was up to
austin he would still be out there and he probably wouldn't have told anybody what he's going through
if the doctors didn't go into him and uh have to pull him out of the game well i imagine he
was left with no choice exactly if he's medically cleared i think you put him third line you take
out robertson or holmberg or gregor whoever and who do you have as winners so you put matthews in
the middle of either holmberg gregor holmberg robertson robertson holmberg see if that's what
you're going with i'd rather not do that you know what's crazy jesse matthews holmberg gregor i kind
of like matt holberg played good with matthews actually earlier this year he did briefly for
like a week has played with gregor and with holmberg i didn't robertson with them but they've
connected in overtimes and stuff but they've barely ever played together five on five i think
it might be matthews between holmberg and gregor you can't the one thing i'll say to that crazy
theory is you can't line match it because what do you mean well if you're boston yeah if you're
boston because you saw jim montgomery go switch it up switch it up on the on the bench because
he's trying to align players properly with each other um if you're the leafs you just roll the
lines at that point because you don't have the whole place you're on the road you're on the road
so you just and it's like well they've got two lines really that they want to align with the
other what about the third the other line whatever line they decide to shut down you got a third line
of so i mean listen it's very ea sports nhl 24 of you and i like it i like it a lot i'm all the way
on board will they do it probably not i think tj brody's more likely to play than the leaf
start to do that and tj brody's not playing but i hope but i do want to say that that i respect
the creativity and what about doer no doer matthew gregor oh i thought you meant taking him out no
no doers matthews gregor no why not because you leave that fourth line together or that
it's not the third line this is the make the matthews line the fourth line just for fun the
junk drawer sure the junk drawer has useful things in it sure but it's also where you just put
everything i don't know where to put this so i'm gonna put it here you can't look at that line and
be like yeah that's a line with a purpose yeah it's gregor holmberg robertson what's the identity
of that line other than just hustling they hustle that's what they do like one of them's a little
little little leave that one yeah but jesse and put matthews with the doer
nah no but then you take away doer's purpose which is okay down okay take out doer comp on the wing
okay all right all right matthews yarn croak hey sorry that's comp with like what a 92 expected
goal yeah put him with matthews the offensive dynamo you're like no comp matthews yarn croak
doesn't work to you because conf was so good you leave him in the middle matthew's on the wing
you know matthews can't play if you're like oh matthew's injured and all that put him on the
wing honestly i honestly don't hate that yeah and there's some endure spot on the fourth line
there's some 12 minutes there's wisdom to that there is wisdom to that um if he i i know we're
gonna sound absolutely insane to some people but this is game seven it's different um if he's
cleared he's cleared very obviously with the asterisk that it's game seven right um if this
was a regular season game we probably don't see him for another month honestly um not knowing what
the injury is if this is game one we probably don't see him it's not it's game seven i think
i think about like we're joking a lot but i think about how stamp ghost came back played a shift
scored a goal uh in the playoffs for in the bubble playoffs and then what what do you mean they won
the cup well they yes but he bounced that was he played three shifts yeah but he what did he do he
scored a goal and i think about how how like what goes into just playing that the amount it took his
body just to get out there for those three shifts and then he had to bail yeah if matthews is capable
they're gonna have him out there yes and i i think i'm right about the line that he's gonna be on if
he's capable of playing there's no chance he plays 20 minutes on the first line no no those first two
lines were really good they were really good and so was the fourth the fourth line was great that's
why matthew should be there and endure spot and conf on the way i'm not gonna get too fussy about
which one of those three guys comes off because in their place returns austin matthews and i think
we're cool right so uh bobby mcmahon was supposed to come back this series by the way yeah that's
true kind of but like they saw they said game seven or six earliest they said five or six
they were always just hopeful yeah it was never like we knew yeah by the way lock in injury
returns he would be a factor if he did come back oh my god he would be um okay so i wanted to get
to all that stuff and then there's some other things that we need to hit so let's talk about
this before you do that do you want to do one thing of course a special segment we rarely run
on the Steve Dangle podcast.
It's the Adam Wilde was right segment.
Wow, this is rare.
Yeah.
What was I right about?
The William Nylander picture is from the first goal.
Thank you.
Wait a minute.
If we want to celebrate that.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Yes.
Thank you.
That means I was right.
No, no.
No, that's irrelevant.
This is my trophy.
I was trying to snipe it.
I know, Jesse.
He can't let me have it.
It's like the puck trickling to the goal line.
I'm like, eh.
Eh, Michael.
But what about me?
The Connor Brown goal,
the Connor Brown,
Zach Hyman goal that he scored where he was literally on the line.
Yeah.
It was like typical Zach Hyman goal.
Maddie,
we can bring it up one last time on the first goal is where this picture was
taken.
Correct.
Here,
let's,
let's go to our,
can we get a picture in picture?
There we go.
Look at my body.
It's the same.
Oh,
I don't know.
Yeah.
You got that midsection baby.

uh okay so there's a couple things i want to hit uh i want to talk about the end of the
king's oiler series which actually the last game got a lot closer than i would have suspected um
but the the reality is that the kings were never fully in this series no and the edmonton oilers
are really good it's really really really really good they're good in ways that we didn't all
necessarily expect like them getting a shutout is just not something them getting a one nothing win
that's like the antithesis of edmonton oilers hockey i would have never called it so that's a
scary looking team it's uh it was a um it was a great game a lot of block shots from edmonton too
uh which i think is important and what i you know i we will talk about the oilers because we're going
to do a bunch of um you know playoff previews for the next thing sure but i really do want to hit on
something and this this is interesting for the kings and listen i can relate to kings fans i know
what it's like to go out in the first round in a frustrating fashion against the team that just
beats you over and over and over again yeah same team sucks the kings took a very definitive step
back this year oh they did nothing to address the problems of late last year which were and i think
they tried they almost got lenis allmark at the deadline but um they had you know and everybody
would have admitted this they got lucky with phoenix copley right last year with him coming
in and playing 40 or 50 games and winning 30 of them and you're like oh where did this guy come
from and north pole alaska and you got out from underneath the cal peterson deal eventually which
was a disaster i can't believe what's happened there like people talk about poor jack campbell
Look, Hal Peterson is the story for me.
You look at his stats and it's like, good, good, good.
Can't play him.
It's crazy.
Yeah.
And I don't know what happened.
But the thing that I think everybody is paying attention to
and the thing that I think deserves a ton of attention,
and I hate it when people say, oh, that's overplayed.
This is overplayed.
This is not overplayed.
It's an $8.5 million player.
Pierre-Luc Dubois.
You didn't even tell me.
It's the only thing I'm talking about with this.
It is.
And the first time somebody in the media tells you that,
oh, too much focus is on Dubois, don't listen to them.
Don't listen to them.
Oh, ignore them outright.
Ignore them.
This is the treatment star players get when they're not stars.
Pierre-Luc Dubois, and this is from Pizza Man Dono.
This is a fan account for the LA Kings.
He said, Pierre-Luc Dubois felt dangerous out there tonight.
Zero goals, zero assists, zero shots on goals,
two penalty minutes, and 1650 of light cardio.
he had four shots in five games that's unfathomable really four shots in five games guys
i know he wasn't playing much he wasn't earning it he finished this season with fewer goals than
bobby mcmahon who began the season in the minors and injured and played the majority of the season
on the fourth line was going to be a healthy scratch until someone was hurt and he scored
a hat trick and he wrote it to a multi-year deal now i think and i'm biased can i just say that he
did not finish with more goals than there are less goals than bobby mcmahon pld finished with 16 goals
bobby mcmahon had 50 at 50 oh so bobby mcmahon passed him and i guess pld must have scored late
bobby did pass him okay he did pass him just not true damn it damn it well there goes i wanted that
Maybe it is overplayed on Pierre-Luc Dubois.
Damn it.
I want to say this.
Jesse, I just sent you John Puck 1992's tweet.
You can choose to put that up on the screen or you can just go to CapFriendly and click on the buyout schedule for Pierre-Luc Dubois.
And what John Puck 1992 pulls together quite well is Pierre-Luc Dubois.
What's their name?
John Puck.
John Puck.
Yeah, but when were they born?
1992, I would think.
Oh, okay.
Did they pull it?
Or did they just screenshot CapFriendly?
They just screenshot CapFriendly.
Where I am, and this is the same thing.
But his point was they could save...
Is it done with an H?
They could save...
Guys, I'm trying to play for time
so we can get it up on the screen.
No, it's up.
We're ready.
I don't know what you're doing.
So a PLD buyout spans 14 years
and has a cost of $15 million,
but a savings of $31.667 million.
dubois is 25 years of age at the time of this potential buyout therefore the ratio would only
be one-third so can i give the info on the the minutiae that's going on with the one-third
buyout hit me up pld on june 24th uh turns 26 years old so if they were to do the buyout
june 24th post through june 30th where the buyout window is the buyout would actually be two-thirds
So if they want a one-thirds buyout, the buyout would have to take place before his birthday.
And I was listening to 32 Thoughts this morning.
They had some great info on this.
And one thing that they pointed out is that the buyout window does not open until the Stanley Cup playoffs are over.
The last date that Game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs could be is the day of his birthday.
so if the stanley cup playoffs go to game seven of the final round of the stanley cup they cannot
do a one-thirds buyout because the buyout window will not have opened if the stanley cup playoffs
end before his birthday then they have the option of the one-thirds buyout this could be one of the
shout out ellie and jeff for doing some great that's some good digging yeah i i want to throw
out this or i want to throw this out there this player's career is already one of the more
interesting than i can remember well he was drafted third overall uh having switched positions
mid-season remember that yeah he he had played center in the queue for half a season and everyone's
like you are out of your friggin minds and jesse pull your rv was really highly rated at the time
they passed on him that hasn't worked out great you know who else they passed on
for and by they i mean uh the columbus blue jackets matthew kachuk
that could have changed the the the columbus fortunes forever and dude we're talking about
a guy who a team picks you third overall they're investing in you automatically they picked you
third overall and he dogged his way off of that team he requested a trade which is fine but he
quit on them can we do the numbers on the buyouts please i would i would like that uh so the the
one third buyout if the la kinks choose to buy out pld which would be a crazy thing to do because
the buyout is gonna go through 2038 ron blake's fired it's it's double the years that are left
on the contract so 2038 and throughout that deal they're gonna have a cap at a 27 million dollars
over those years it averages it's like not bad it's manageable it's 1.6 1.5 2.5 3.7 3.8 3.8 2.8
and then 1.1 through the rest of those years which would be about six years left and then if they do
the buyout after his birthday so sailing up final goes to game seven it'll be a two-thirds buyout
you can see that the cap hit is a lot more through those years starting in 24 25 it's 2.7
then 2.6 then 3.6 then 4.9 4.9 4.9 3.9 and then 2.2 through 2031 through 2038
like one last thing with the contract a no movement clause kicks in at the at the next
calendar season okay so 2025 they have an option here to trade them like now if they really wanted
to do it they can't the no move clause kicks in for next season so 24 25 next season he has a no
move clause but right now he does not you can't trade him you can't trade him you can't who's
gonna have till july 1st you'd have to find somebody to play double retention with because
there there's a lot of teams out there i'm sure they would take a chance on them maybe yeah maybe
actually maybe you do take a chance on pld at 4.25 let me go if you know 50 retention i'm sure
there's plenty of teams that would take that chance but I look at this and I think this
whatever this is this hasn't worked and I look at this specifically as it pertains to Mark Bergevin
and I started this segment saying maybe I'm biased it's not about Pierre-Luc Dubois I remember in
2021 when we were at the draft in Montreal Pierre-Luc Dubois joined his agent there not
because he wanted to go in and congratulate players but because he was almost certain he
was going to montreal that he was going to montreal whatever deal was in place fell through
and he was there and i i bet you montreal had a good pick in that draft he would have been up
there with him like they had the first overall pick he would have been up there with him hey
your eyes love koski come on down and and so anyway he here's a great situation you end up
in los angeles after you tried to get out of winnipeg for a couple of years after you tried
to get out of columbus for a couple of years and now you finally got everything you wanted
you get to be in a sunny place it's los angeles like what a great place to live great team you
a great team it's sunny all the time you can ski you can swim in the same day like it's it's just
a california for all the crap that california takes is an amazing place to live of course it
is and there's a reason why everybody wants to live there it's amazing and he gets to go and
be there and and this i i'm sorry you changed coaches midway through the season it changes
nothing this player had better figure it out and i and for the la kings i don't know how you
you first off they got to be seriously consider buying buying him out but my question is who's
the guy that hired mark bergevin they had they didn't have to do that because i'm oh no he's
i'm almost a thousand percent that mark bergevin was the biggest guy going get purely no rob blake
should lose his job because there's no reason you had to give pld eight years when you're just
trading for that asset from winnipeg it made no sense well like dude gabe velarde had more goals
than him that one i'm right about velarde had 22 and he had better points per game um the only
reason he didn't have more points than dubois he only played 47 games like dubois not even the best
player in the dubois deal dude that's horrible like there's we should wake up in like a couple
weeks and rob blake should definitely be fired couple weeks this show's gonna be out of date by
the time it goes up what are you talking about the kings are out of the playoffs so i'm like i'm
trying to look at uh who their management is head coach jim hiller i've seen them talk about him
maybe not uh being renewed like i don't know man he just got there i'm like i think jim hiller did
a fine job with what he was given yeah we're a big jim hiller show don't ever forget it we're
big jim hiller show but um i i think the buyout t with this first of all this is a really stupid
loophole this is a really stupid loophole that the nhl should probably maybe look into um or
nhl well i guess the nhlpa wouldn't want it um it's dumb that the activity of other nhl teams
affects the business of the la kings boohoo oh you signed the contract no you knew what the rules
were they knew what the rules are but i well like okay if the stanley cup final ends in four games
yeah um the kings can buy this guy out if they want if it ends in seven they can't and i think
that's dumb but it is what it is they knew the rules like adam said yeah yeah you have to set
a rule at some point um and i have a baby brain and i don't remember the other thing oh we are
using the buyout as too much of a crutch it is really juicy it's piping hot tea there are some
bad contracts around the nhl that could be moved you were like who's trading for that and right off
the top of my head i went what do you need to finagle to do a dubois for hubert o deal
and then you mentioned that dubois wanted to go to montreal
montreal's got some deals josh anderson you're telling me they don't want out of that deal
uh and you know maybe dubois will be happy for like i don't know 60 90 days and give them some
good hockey for that time before requesting another trade um i'm sure the media will be
pretty hard no no they'll be you know montreal it's not an easy no they want to talk about
media that's tough that's the montreal media and by the way i respect it they expect their teams to
win not all of them but yeah yeah well that it's because they hold them to a high standard they
want a lot of cups could there be some finagling done with the carry price contract um there's
potential movement here i don't think the only way for dubois to get out of la is um
i don't think the only way for dubois to get out of la is a buyout you want to hear a real fun one
this isn't going to happen but imagine they so jesse does he have any trade protection right now
no no right now from now it's the same situation that mitch marner was in last offseason from
today until july 1st well i guess june 30th at 11 59 p.m eastern time you can trade pld to whoever
you want wow and then once that new calendar season kicks in you cannot you can no longer
trade him without his permission there's no way this happens but how funny would a pld for johnny
gadreau trade to columbus they sent him back no they sent him back why would columbus do no they
wouldn't do you hear what you just said why would columbus do it yeah that's how far pierre luke
dubois has fallen why would columbus take him back columbus friggin sucks and they wouldn't
even take this guy back what happened this guy was a killer money in the bank 25 30 goals a year
he's gonna german suplex your star center in every playoff series
gonna hit everybody he's gonna beat the shit out of you
what happened he was great in winnipeg playoffs and he's got only himself to blame yep
yeah only himself yeah i i can't put it anywhere else can i can i just give you a little info on
rob blake sure in the summer of 2013 he was named uh vice president of hockey operations assistant
general manager of the los angeles kings wow he's been there a while 2017 he got upgraded to
general manager so he's been the gm since then since their copper hunt so that was 2014 they
win the stanley cup over the new york rangers lundquist oh what a shame heartbreaking jesus
since then the los angeles kings have won a total of zero playoff series what
since their cup run in 2014 the kings have not won a single playoff series they didn't qualify
in 14 15 they lost to the sharks in 15 16 didn't qualify 16 17 lost to the night 17 18 went three
years without qualifying and then three straight years they lost in the first round to the Oilers
Rob Blake as general manager does not have a playoff series victory to his resume man you know
maybe there is a Toronto bias like maybe we do get too caught up in this team because there are some
real poor performing teams out there and every year we're like you know what I like the Kings
this year every year we're like you know what i like that roster and i i think some people for
years look at the leafs the same way they're like you know what that's a team on the up and up and
to be fair to the kings when they lost to the golden knights that was kind of like the old team
and they get swept and you're like okay yeah let's go rebuild here they don't make the playoffs for
three straight seasons and then you're like oh we're we rebuilt now we're back we go to the
playoffs we lose to edmonton and seven everything's good the narrative's like we got all these young
kids were up and up and then you lose two more straight years to the Oilers and you realize that
hey maybe we don't have as much here as we thought so that's kind of the narrative how it played out
and I think if you just look at what he's done it hasn't been enough and this move has got to be the
cherry on top for Luke Robitaille who's the like the chief honcho of the whole thing to probably
move off of Rob Blake and like the whole ex-player thing they got a whole organization of them well
rob blake general manager and vice president this is on cap friendly uh who was a former player
definitely for the kings uh mark bergevin is the senior advisor to the general manager i know he
played i don't remember if it was for the kings nelson emerson is the assistant general manager
i remember him i recognize that name he definitely played he played in columbus too yeah um director
of player personnel glenn murray that's a player i recognize director of goaltending bill ranford
there's a player i recognize menon rayon the goaltender she's an advisor i thought she was
with the lightning for some reason maybe she was now she's not you know what we have to be a little
bit more efficient with our time here so yeah i understand that i wasn't expecting to spend 20
minutes on the kings i did want to i do want to throw out there it's juicy but i got other juicy
shit and i want to make sure we get to it no because there's more drama coughing um
I just because we don't have the time Vegas Dallas is just looking like a classic series
Dallas taking the lead in that series is I mean what do you say I mean that Petrangelo spinning
back fist was hilarious um yeah that's crazy Wyatt Johnson is emerging as a star Logan Sankoven
is emerging as a star they're such a great combination of old and new um it's not just
that the stars beat vegas it's that the stars should have been up like five two at one point
like they just pavelsky missed a tap in that like joe pavelsky's never gonna miss yep um this one
might be over in six i owe or it'll be the most entertaining damn seven game series going i owe
someone an apology um i should have never wavered my support off of off of you uh jake ottinger
yeah it's been fantastic oh now he's gonna turn into a pumpkin that we'll see your love is his
kryptonite yeah whatever i love him he never performs in the playoffs uh jake ottinger i
i don't know if he's back quote unquote but he's been great the last couple games and i think he's
been a large reason they're back in this and top of that everything you mentioned especially why
johnston who's fucking unreal yeah we'll see but this is vegas you know okay vegas

off-ice drama is happening and there's huge off-ice drama this morning in pittsburgh and i want to
tell you what's happened uh because there's a lot going on behind the scenes in pittsburgh that you
probably are not aware of so the head of the power play todd reardon has been fired he is mike's one
of mike sullivan's favorite assistants and it's rumored that mike sullivan has in his deal that
he gets to control his assistants but he did not sign that deal under kyle dubas and kyle dubas
unilaterally fired reared him so there is also there are rumors that new jersey's first pick
for head coach is mike sullivan what yeah that's why they haven't made the hire yet so
although as of this morning the penguins have not granted um a um letting him stay in the
division would be hilarious they have not granted that but they're saying that if it happens it
could be a trade a trade meaning that if we're going to give you like let's say you're new jersey
and i'm pittsburgh you have to give me an asset and i'll give you future considerations and then
i'll let you talk to my head coach and you can take them and where is this coming from uh it's
it's all over twitter this morning sarah volley's got some stuff on it it's uh um yeah so there's
there's been it's been really really interesting and and and here's the thing all of it could come
to nothing but we do know that the previous guys uh hextall and burke signed and and sullivan is
really really liked by fenway sports and entertainment we know that um and he's going
to be one of the highest paid coaches in the year somewhere in the neighborhood of five to six
million dollars next year and they signed this extension last year before this season they
didn't need to do this and it was you know we were talking about it's like how much can kyle
Dubas really do if this extension's in
there well I guess he can make
Sullivan's life really uncomfortable
until Sullivan goes you know what
I would like to go to another team let him
talk to him loves his guys
doesn't love
not his guys yes
very he can be ice cold with that
so
basically what Frank Cervalli said that there was no
shortage of friction in Pittsburgh as we reported
coach Mike Sullivan was vehemently opposed to
making changes to his staff which
I think shows the
major problem with mike sullivan if you have a power play that kept you out of the playoffs and
they did they did they should have been in there over the islanders they should have been in over
there over washington pittsburgh's a better talent team than those two teams the fact that
their power play was the thing that kept them out um and mike sullivan didn't want to make a change
well i think that's a problem i'm gonna assume todd reardon is the guy who ran the power play
Yes, Todd Reardon is. Yeah. And, uh, beyond that, and I think it's important that you should know
this, the penguins fired, uh, something like 12, uh, 12 people closer to 20 that are longtime
staffers. So I won't name the names, but the VP creative services, the senior VP partnership in
marketing chief marketing officer, chief revenue officer, director of customer service, senior
manager box office senior manager partnerships manager assistance administrator director of
event presentation vp content and production vp marketing and digital manager production and
operations producers of pen t pens tv producer motion graphics and producer uh and another
producer of motion motion graphics and andy perlman who i want to shout out was one of the
first kind of supporters of this podcast openly from within the nhl the penguins used to tweet
us and we'd be like who are you and it's and it's andy andy's uh vp of marketing and digital um and
she put up a really i think wonderful and classy and emotional post um there's a lot of change in
pittsburgh right now it's just a question of um you know with the coaches that are going to become
available and that are already available who's the fit and we don't have time to speculate on it
right now but it's going to be interesting i thought you'd find that fascinating i do um and
here's what i wanted to pull this yeah so uh the jack adams nominees were announced and we got
three and uh one of them is already out of the playoffs rick bonus it's a regular season award
regular season award andrew brunette nashville predators head coach deserved rick talkett
canucks head coach deserved yeah and what was funny is andrew brunette was asked about it and
he said i'm not really sure how to feel about it because the last time i was nominated for this i
lost my job and that was right with the panthers so they could get joel quinnville it wasn't because
he did a bad job he's done a great job with nashville this year yeah it's because they
wanted quinnville because he took no no he took over we took over for quinnville and uh no they
wanted maurice that's what it was sorry sorry sorry that worked yeah in fairness that worked
out yeah it did and and but you gotta remember brunette won the president's trophy that year
and was the all-star head coach for the eastern conference and then he got canned didn't win
didn't win the Jack Adams that year probably
should have but yeah
so anyway I thought that was fascinating
Jack Adams award is one of the little
gripes I have with how the NHL does
voting one of the big
ones I have is
I think it I think it's the
Vesna I'm
voted on by the GM but it's voted on
a week after the regular season
I believe it not at the conclusion it might be the Vesna
it might be a different trophy but the Jack Adams
is voted on by NHL broadcasters
and not
uh nhl writers or anybody kind of who covers so is that like like like elliot friedman and
it's i'll read it to you i have it here voting members of the nhl broadcasters association
submit ballots for the jack adams award at the conclusion of the regular season how does one
join that i don't know sorry i i'm pretty sure it's like the guys calling the games
i have the broadcaster because it's not the nhl writers association what what's the
phwa yeah those guys they vote on like the major awards like the heart and all the file the
really important trophies and then this one's voted on by the broadcasters association which i
always thought was freaking odd i've never i had no idea and by the way nobody forces any of those
guys to put their votes up right like do we ever see their results i guess nobody cares but that's
a good question good question i could probably google it because like the heart trophy ones like
that the writers sweat over that because they're so worried about the backlash you go on the
website it's all there yeah every single person who voted on it you can see the pittsburgh writer
who uh didn't want to give mcdavid a heart trophy vote all that kind of stuff anyways i hated that
i the nhl voting on awards needs a revamp yeah i in my humble opinion let us do it yeah
you know what we'll do it we're we broadcast i don't think it's well do we broadcast or they
call it narrow casting the podcaster it's a way to it's a way to to take what we do and make it
seem less important by the broadcasters because that's what they'll say they'll say well that's
not a broadcast we do um in in uh on long island lou lamorello and patrick roy will be back
lou lamorello is 82 that so that's been announced that's been announced lou and patrick sat up and
they in front of the fans today and sorry in front of the media today and said we will be back and
you know what i'll give luke credit he turned the season around bringing patrick in i will be
interested to see what patrick was able to do with a team coming out of training camp it's very clear
that a guy like stephen stamp coast would be perfect for this team you i know we've talked
about him with the predators we talk about him with detroit man they need that first off they
I love that Kyle Dubas loves his guys.
Lou Lamorello loves his old guys.
He loves guys he can relate to.
He's still double their age, but he wants a guy who plays the game the right way,
shaves, wears a suit, all that stuff.
Mark Giordano?
Mark Giordano might be an Islander.
I don't know.
But I got to say, what has been interesting is Andrew Gross from Newsday said,
I asked Lou Lamorello specifically whether he expects director of goaltending Mitch Korn to return.
who I believe was the Leafs' former goaltending coach.
Yeah, they lost him, and it was a big deal.
Lou quickly said, yes, industry expectation is the opposite,
is what Andrew says.
So Mitch Korn could become a very coveted free agent goalie coach.
Well, speaking of people who I had heard whispers of
would become a coveted free agent is Lou Lamorello.
So when you told me that, I was surprised.
You've heard whispers.
I think this is it for him.
i mean not that you it's credible whispers are difficult to come by when it comes to lou
lamorella yeah but you got to imagine he's looking at like this is my final job oh i think then i'm
gonna retire i don't know i gotta retire at some point i don't think he's ever thought that ever
no what are you talking about it's like where you play fallout and i don't know if you guys
ever played fallout but they're like they're at it you you see sometimes like skeletons still at
their desk from when the bomb went off yeah that's lou i i'm just picturing never gonna stop
with a little pina colada on on uh on like a sun lounger on the beach in a full suit yes i just
don't think he's a guy a little bit of sunscreen on his forehead how old is lou now 82 82 wow
i respect i respect the grind and the hustle and all the things um and you know what uh the
islanders fortunes before lou got there were pretty ugly yep they were playing in a bad bad
arena they were not near their fans he got them back in nasa they got the arena built ubs apparently
is amazing the team wasn't good team wasn't good they've been to what two conference finals and
you know a couple playoff appearances too i think his biggest lightning got in their way his biggest
mistake was you know i and i'm sure this was the same with washington as well i believe that
managing barry trotz is very difficult because barry's got some very defined opinions on how
hockey should be but both of those teams the caps and the islanders have been worse since barry left
and look at the nashville predators i don't disagree so i think his biggest mistake was
going let's do let's let lane lambert take over right i don't disagree so anyway let's uh do we
have time for the press conference or we wrap it uh no we're at two hours let's wrap it up um
the correction to myself the general manager award is the wonky voting one that's the one that's
voted at the end of the second round
of the playoffs, which
makes, you know, no sense.
That doesn't make any sense, Jesse, and I think
it's wrong. Jeff Merrick used to always say
the GM of the Year award is the Stanley
Cup. Yeah, so
I don't know. Who are the Broadcasters Association?
I'm going to ask CJ. Yeah, who are these people?
You probably know. Man, there's so many
associations in hockey, too. It's like, oh, you don't
belong to this group of... I'm like, who are you?
We're dumb for not making one. Yeah, I know.
