Starting point is 00:00:00 Howdy folks, today is Monday, March 31st and you're listening to the Texans Daily Rundown. I'm the Texans Assistant Editor Rob Lauschis and here is the rundown of today's news in Texas politics. First up, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 72 illegal aliens, including two gang members and 61 criminal aliens, in a week-long operation in South Texas this month. The operation was a joint effort between a number of state and federal agencies taking place
Starting point is 00:00:33 from March 16th to March 22nd in Harlingen, Cameron County, to, quote, bolster public safety, national security, and border security. 11 different charges for crimes allegedly committed while in the U.S. were doled out to those arrested, including, quote, a sex offense or child sex offense, such as aggravated sexual assault of a minor, possession of child pornography, or rape, end quote, of which three of the criminal aliens were charged or convicted. Two received charges for an aggravated felony or other violent offense,
Starting point is 00:01:07 such as homicide, aggravated assault, or domestic violence, while one was convicted of offenses related to illegal firearm activity, including unlawful carrying of a firearm, alien in possession of a firearm, and aggravated assault with a firearm.
Starting point is 00:01:23 ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations' Harlingen Acting Field Office Director Robert Cerna said in a press release on Thursday, quote, The results of this operation are a clear indication of ICE's commitment regarding the role we play in keeping our communities safe by locating, arresting, and ultimately removing at-large criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety and other immigration fugitives. Next, the ongoing controversy regarding a North Texas real estate development has gained a new wrinkle, this time in the form of an investigation being headed by the Texas Rangers.

Abbott said, quote, Texas is a law and order state and those scheming to evade law enforcement scrutiny must know justice is awaiting them. That is why I directed the Texas Rangers to fully investigate the group behind the proposed epic compound for potentially violating criminal
Starting point is 00:02:30 law. The epic city development in Josephine is planned to include more than 1,000 homes, a mosque, and schools. It is slated to cover more than 400 acres of land. The announcement video for the community states it is designed to bring Islam to the forefront and will quote, celebrate diversity and promote unity to foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity for all residents regardless of their background. Abbott along with Attorney General Ken Paxton have taken an aggressive stance on Epic City in recent weeks launching multiple investigations. Now returning to your daily Texas news. In other news, Texas continues to cement itself as a hub for capital investment with the opening of a new Lone Star State-based stock exchange on Monday. The New York Stock Exchange announced plans to
Starting point is 00:03:51 establish its own exchange in Dallas back in February, which came on the heels of the Texas Stock Exchange being founded in June last year. New York Stock Exchange Group President Lynn Martin said in a press release at the time, quote, As the state with the largest number of NYSE listings, representing over $3.7 trillion in market value for our community, Texas is a market leader in fostering a pro-business atmosphere. Now, March 31st is opening day for the Texas-based New York Stock Exchange, which Martin said will allow companies to capitalize on pro-business dynamics in Texas. The NYSE also announced that the first security to be listed on the Texas exchange will be the Trump Media and Technology Group.
