Howdy folks, today is Wednesday, November 27. And you're listening to the Texans daily rundown. I'm
the Texans assistant editor Rob Lausches. And here is the rundown of today's news in Texas politics.
First up, in the uptown neighborhood of Fort Worth, in the shadow of high end department
complexes lies a peaceful historic cemetery where some of the early settlers of Fort Worth are buried.
The seven-acre Pioneer's Rest Cemetery was established in 1850, one year after the U.S. Army outpost of Fort Worth was built to keep white settlers separate from American Indians.
The cemetery has over 1,500 graves, some dating back to the 1850s with others that are more recent.
In 2021, Pioneer's Rest was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
There are only 10 others in the state, according to a Fort Worth City News release.
A unique feature of the cemetery is that visitors can learn more about its history
and the lives of those buried there by using QR codes posted throughout. Next, for the first time in
24 years, the border at Lake Texoma between Texas and Oklahoma has been redrawn, with a land swap
occurring between the states. The North Texas Municipal Water District, which provides vital
wholesale water, wastewater, and solid waste management services to 13 constituent municipalities
in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex,
had its water pump station in Lake Texoma incorrectly placed in Oklahoma during a
redrawing of the state boundary in 2000. This has now been corrected, resulting in the land swap.
The water district's constituents include Allen, Farmersville, Forney, Frisco, Garland, McKinney, Mesquite, Plano, Princeton, Richardson, Rockwall,
Royce City, and Wiley. In total, the North Texas Municipal Water District serves more than 2
million residents. Jenna Covington, Executive Director and General Manager of the North Texas
Municipal Water District, said, quote, We're pleased we've reached an agreement
with our partners in Oklahoma ensuring continued use of our Lake Texoma pump station to provide
water to our rapidly growing service area. Last but not least, on November 22, 1963,
President John F. Kennedy's motorcade rolled through the streets of Dallas, Texas under a
cloud of political tension and cultural unrest. As the procession passed the Texas School Book Depository, three shots rang out,
striking the young president and sending waves of shock and sorrow across the nation.
Kennedy's assassination by Lee Harvey Oswald, captured vividly by the Zapruder film,
has remained etched in American consciousness,
prompting a whirlwind of investigations, conspiracy theories,
and historical scrutiny. In the days following this national tragedy, authorities faced immense
pressure to piece together the events that led to Kennedy's death. Just five days after the
assassination, on November 27th, the Secret Service conducted a highly significant reenactment in
Dealey Plaza. Visit thetexan.news to learn more about this assassination reenactment in Dealey Plaza. Visit thetexan.news to learn more about this
