Starting point is 00:00:00 Good morning, millennials, and welcome back to The Toast. Happy Wednesday. Oh my God, happy Wednesday. The week is creeping along in a creepful manner. Creepy, scary skeletons and shivers down your spine. But it's hump day. We have a very exciting day today for a multitude of reasons. Of course, The Toast, very exciting.
Starting point is 00:00:20 Dear Toasters, which I'm having a renaissance with Dear Toasters. Oh, they sell mine. I think I know why. Because in this time of year where the celebrities don't do much, very exciting dear toasters very i'm having a renaissance with your toaster okay so am i i think i know why because in this time of year where like the celebrities don't do much at times excuse me it feels like we might be scraping the bottom of the barrel for things to talk about and like dear toasters coming in so clutch with like the content that and also i feel like everybody has been pitting me against your toasters because i said one thing one time about how it just takes a lot of personal battery and now i feel like i have to prove my love for dear toasters and in doing that dear toasters and i have fallen in love again oh okay so it's kind of inspired a renaissance if
Starting point is 00:00:55 you will it has but just like to prove everyone wrong like it's dear toasters and i against and claudia and bruno and romeo yeah against the rest of you. Jackie, that's literally beautiful. The rest of you who are telling me what I like when I never said that. Well, you did say it, but you were confusing in your delivery. Well, we've got, like Jackie said, dear toasters. I'm wearing horizontal stripes. And how do you feel?
Starting point is 00:01:19 I feel brave. Where is my purple heart? But horizontal stripes are so summery, you know? They are like i just and i want to say um not sure this shirt just like sort of showed up at my house i don't know where it came from um along with this gorgeous tuckernuck sweater that i wore and then then you wore and i'm not entirely sure where they came from i want to say it was in a pr package from coddley which was like so nice along with this shirt that i never would have bought for
Starting point is 00:01:43 myself you should do a collab with them i'm waiting called Claudley their products are fabulous and so is their name yeah and all these sort of like fabulous items showed up at my apartment and they've sort of given me a personality of my own like what am I wearing this nautical striped blue and white shirt this is something I would never wear or buy for myself and I'm taking on another personality ahoy matey yeah I was also just saying to, I feel like this studio because it's cozier vibes. And I also think because the couch is deeper, it's having us dress differently than the last studio, like in the last studio, because we were in front of a window and the couch was shallow. Like you want to wear like a little seam law, but I'm no longer feeling like seam
Starting point is 00:02:20 last summer in this studio. I'm feeling more loungewear. Thank God. Like seamless summer is such pressure. We like finally got a million seamless. Like we spent the whole month buying seamless. The good news is, is I'll wear that stuff all the time at home. It's true. But like people don't talk about the pressure that's put on a woman by wearing a dress, a seamless, if you will. Yeah. This couch is not seamless friendly whatsoever because we're sitting all the way back. So now I think we need to go back to investing in loungewear. It's time for another merch drop. Just kidding. Oh no. Oh no. I have to invest in more loungewear. Ah, I know, but I really didn't bring cozies because it's summer, but it's also rainy here, overcast, which is why it's an extra exciting day because I'm making a chili.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Thank God. Like the fire is roaring. The rain is raining and the chili is getting started. And more exciting things claudia and i are in the middle of a baking vlog yeah that's right we bake we started something yesterday it's been proofing i actually need to text someone to take it out of the fridge i put it in the fridge did you get the baking soda i did okay because you know jack and i didn't have and we were like we could use baking powder and i feel like that's how all great flops begin you just substitute the baking powder for the baking soda and you're like where did it all go wrong right there i already made one mistake and also like the proofing time like it went in the fridge is coming out we'll see how it goes yeah but
Starting point is 00:03:31 you head over to patreon.com you made me realize like because we're doing it for patreon like we're just doing it to have fun like it doesn't have to be perfect you take it so seriously when i'm like cooking i do take it seriously like i don't want to waste my time i don't want to waste my ingredients and then what people go hungry but But you're feeding your family, right? Like this is just fun. It's okay if it's not perfect. So that takes the pressure off. Yeah, it does.
Starting point is 00:03:51 It does. And just know like if I'm involved, it's going to go wrong. So we might as well just like lean in and have fun. What are we making again? Oh, yeah. Should we spoil it or no? No, don't spoil it. But then also we'll get a little chili in there.
Starting point is 00:04:02 It's just going to be like a cooking day, which I love a cooking day. I love a cozy chili fire warring day. You guys know that. But like it's summer. Where is the sun? Oh, Mr. Sun, sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on me. I want to be tan. That limerick.
Starting point is 00:04:18 What's that? Like a jingle? It's a song. It's a children's song. It's so good. Is that still popular? That's like a song from my day. Mr. Sun. It's still children's song. It's so good. Is that still popular? That's like a song from my day. Mr. Sun.
Starting point is 00:04:26 It's still in the rotation. Mr. Golden Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, hiding behind the tree. Oh, okay, verse two. These little children are asking you to please come out so we can play with you. Oh, Mr. Sun. Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on won't you shine down on won't you shine down on me oh yeah they ate with that especially like the harmony like oh so good totally and that's how i'm feeling today like oh mr sun sun please shine down on me like i want to swim i want
Starting point is 00:05:03 like it was fun yesterday and we had an indoor day, but to have two days like that in a row, like it's kind of slovenly. It's suddenly, I didn't even shower yesterday. Cause I was like, I didn't do anything. I did shower,
Starting point is 00:05:13 but I realized I didn't need to. It was like, I'm saving the water, you know? Yeah. That's so turdy. I care a lot. Turdy for turtles.
Starting point is 00:05:21 I'm kind of like that character in the politician, Ben Platt, when he agrees to live zero waste. Yeah. And so he saves his own shower water to feed the flowers. Beautiful. It's literally disgusting. The flowers are probably like, oh, no.
Starting point is 00:05:32 He used his shower water to make coffee, by the way. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Which is worse. Even more disgusting. Use it for flowers. That's actually good. There's nothing more disgusting than bathwater, like used bathwater. There are more disgusting things like no but did i tell you my
Starting point is 00:05:47 fun fact that i learned on my facebook algorithm about baths in olden times you didn't i feel like i did actually i feel like you did hold on i'm gonna tell you again because i told you my facebook what i get in my feed is just like fun facts historical facts i shared that graphic that i got about the uk but one that i learned is they were teaching like why some phrases are, why do we say those things? Jackie, we have had this exact conversation. I feel like not on the show. I feel like we had it in like at dinner one night.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Okay. Cause then I, cause then I, yeah. Okay. But we'll have it again. Just in case. So the phrase don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. This is where it comes from. Back in olden times, like really poor families,
Starting point is 00:06:23 they would only get one bath a year. And the first person to take the bath would be the man of the house then the sons then the women the daughters and all the way like in age order to the baby by the time the baby took the bath it would be like black a year's worth of grime on an entire family and so then it was like you don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water because you might lose it no and by the way not everyone like being like why did they die so young it's because you're literally bathing babies in like black duty and in hindsight it should have been the opposite order yeah okay well you just then reminded me of a fun fact i learned on tiktok about where phrases come from and this phrase was you know the wrong end of the stick so in olden times i think there's turletslets. They didn't have like- Yeah, the turlets.
Starting point is 00:07:07 They didn't have, you know, toilet paper, things of that nature. They had like a stick with like something at the end of it to like wipe your ass with. And if you, you would like put it, you would use it and then you would put it back in the bucket. But if you put it back upside down, when somebody went to reach for it, they would reach for the duty side and it's the wrong end of the stick. Damn. So that's when you're getting like a shit deal, literally. A raw deal.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Exactly. I love learning about the origins of of phrases we definitely have this conversation word for word unclear if it was offline or off online so if it was online we apologize for the repetitive nature but do you want a new one that i just learned that we definitely didn't have on the podcast i would love and it's the origin of the word podcast hit it because it's a combination a conflagration of two words which is our favorite thing oh let me think like broadcast of course and pod comes from ipod so it was a broadcast that you listen to on your ipod oh my god that's why it was called podcast and now it has obviously usurped so does apple not like own that word no because it was kind of slang and but now that's the word and then i saw
Starting point is 00:08:06 even the word broadcast is two words put together because broad was meant you know broad wide reaching to everyone and then i i didn't keep watching the video for where cast comes from that's the more interesting part also that's another word that it's leapfrogged its original meaning of like broad now a broadcast is more ubiquitous so what you're saying it's giving conjunction junction what's your function that's exactly what i'm saying well at the end of the day it all comes back to conjunction so and schoolhouse rock and bruno brunis lunis bruno decided to show up for work today even though it's raining you know he's working so hard that's beautiful because he's just so grateful for this trip. And he's like, how can I help?
Starting point is 00:08:46 I'm having the best time with my cousin, brother, Romeo. And like, we just want to help out. I was saying that last night, you know, I don't know how I'm going to go back to my regular life. Well, I know how I'm going to do it. Like, I'll be fine. But I don't know how Romeo is going to go back. Romeo was born and like very quickly went to the Hamptons
Starting point is 00:09:00 and like lives with Bruno. They have such a good time together. Every night they like, the clock strikes eight o'clock. They're on the couch licking each other from top to bottom. They play, they run, they jump, they laugh. They love each other so much. I don't know. Romeo doesn't know a life without a brother. You know, Bruno has four years on this earth like by his lonesome. Yeah. When we went back to the city for the Beacon Theater, like we spent one night in that apartment, like Romeo, seriously, I had to put him on suicide watch he was like i hate it here yeah i hate it here so i will go to secret gardens in my mind oh tic tac idea gotta make that it was a quiet lonely day for romeo correct so that's gonna be sad but
Starting point is 00:09:37 let's not think about that we have so much more of swirly summer you know and let's even just think about today at a glance we have so much going on especially within the toast like lively is a september cover star of vogue is that a story she is a story yes she is that is like we'll talk about the interview with what everyone's talking about but like conceptually that's really crazy to me and we'll get into it i don't want to spoil any of my thoughts right right save them in terms of olympics news jackie and i last night you know every night they show you new sports new things to and now that gymnastics is over it gives us the bandwidth to look into other things current obsession Sydney McLaughlin from New Jersey runner to the stars like literally one of the most gorgeous girls I've ever seen in my life yeah amazing runner didn't even look like
Starting point is 00:10:16 she was trying that hard in the semis we went stalking so excited to see what she brings to the finals she's like married to a former NFL player. They're so sweet. They're so both like so good looking too. Yeah. Oh, are you seeing this viral moment now? This is where I'm at
Starting point is 00:10:30 on TikTok. When it came to, what's the sport where the guy's penis got caught? Pole jumping. So the guy who won. Pole vaulting. Yeah, vaulting.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Something like that. The guy who won was from Sweden and he's like the world record holder. And he went to his girlfriend? Yes. And now you're like, should he have hugged his mom? No, no, no, no. I was obsessed with the whole moment.
Starting point is 00:10:48 And then it went viral on TikTok. And I kept like watching the videos that I guess it started serving me the content of the athlete and the girlfriend. She's an influencer, like a Swedish influencer. She has 400,000 TikTok followers. She's the coolest style. She's so unbelievably gorgeous. And all of her content these past, now I'm getting served all of her old videos. Oh, come with me to the championships. Like before the olympics oh like you've never seen two better looking people it's a rabbit hole worth going down I couldn't tell you their names I'm not sure yet but I followed and I'm like I'm I'm sad oh I love that are you okay with him hugging her even though she's only the girlfriend I am there was something about the hug that she's
Starting point is 00:11:20 more than a girlfriend in terms of like she's a partner and yeah yeah I don't even know if who else i don't know what other members of his family were sitting around him like you know i love to go in on like the order in which men should hug like the women in their lives but in this particular scenario i didn't have one nefarious thought and it was like feeding us as the kids say we we we they ate it wouldn't have been a viral moment if he was hugging his dad no no it would have been sweet sister it would have been a viral moment if he was hugging his dad. No, no. It would have been sweet. Or his sister. It would have been viral, but not this caliber. Yeah, agreed. And people are pairing it with the song, The Alchemy. Where's the trophy?
Starting point is 00:11:53 He just comes running over to me. That's good. That's good. There are a couple of moments from the Olympics that are giving like smut novel. That is one of them. Yeah. The others, you know, obviously the two tennis players and mixed doubles who are no longer together like that's obviously a book waiting to be written that's tough oh do we have any oh i guess we'll talk about blake
Starting point is 00:12:14 ladley and it ends with us but last night was the premiere yeah we're talking about the premiere okay because like the thought i had yesterday has like exploded into a full-blown oh okay we'll talk about we'll talk about it more which is great for the movie it ends with us which just proves like my point so rising tides rising all shides rising tides rise all shides and then also oh we watched olympics gold medal for the american in wrestling okay wrestling we don't talk about wrestling enough not them never putting it on prime time because we won a gold we won gold jewish queen like you could not like i know i i feel like people don't understand this i had this thought the other day like the difference between because there are a ton of jewish olympians from israel
Starting point is 00:12:53 the difference between like an american jew and an israeli in terms of like physical makeup and just like general stamina could not be more different like israeli jews are like the toughest if you know their personalities like they're snarky. They are so different than like American Jews because American Jews have the luxury of like being American and like living safely. And we just couldn't be more different. So when you think of like typical Jews, like Larry David type, that's very weak, weak stomach. That's very American constitution. So for there to be like an American Jew, she is Israeli.
Starting point is 00:13:27 So like her parents are Israeli. It doesn't really count. It is so unbelievably crazy. You guys have no idea. Like it's shocking. There was another, I was following some of the Jewish Olympians fencing. Different, different, different.
Starting point is 00:13:42 To see this like athlete, she was jacked. I just couldn't believe it. Like I really couldn't. No, it's so funny. But also I was reading up on her so many interesting factoids that one that I shared with Claudia. That's also sad because what's her name? Amit. She has like some, some sad things that have happened to her in her life or her brother passed away a few years ago. Actually, he was murdered in an attempted robbery. Like the story is just a sad story but her brother's name i told claudia was ashrae which is just so crazy spelled the same way o-s-h-r-y i've never heard that as a first name and by the way that could solve our issue from yesterday's episode about your maiden name and
Starting point is 00:14:19 how you can carry it on ashrae is apparently name. No, we literally need to cut this out so that when I drop my first baby ever, like on the gram, Asheray Soffer. When you drop him. Wait, I'm obsessed. Asheray Soffer. We need to cut this out because I'm literally doing that. I love it.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Thank you, Amit. Yeah, that was crazy. And it was spelled the exact same way. And it's like- He's murdered. He was murdered in a home invasion. Okay, okay. Very upsetting story.
Starting point is 00:14:44 Okay, never story. But, Asheray, we've made it about us. So proud of Amit. She crushed it. She crushed that bitch. And what else did we watch?
Starting point is 00:14:54 We watched women's volleyball. It's kind of, it's time for like the, I don't think they're lesser, but obviously NBC and Peacock too. We watched a lot of diving. Diving, synchronized swimming.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Like, now that gymnastics is over, it like gives space for other for other sports to get like primetime visibility even though like and i like track and field i like it a lot it gets all the time on primetime like it never bring and then they are showing us roundup throughout the day of like things that are low-key more interesting i like track and field like where is the synchronized swimming yeah the girls that moonwalked like we didn't get to see their routine i would love to understand
Starting point is 00:15:27 like how they decide which sports they're going to make popular let's say there isn't like this huge demand for track and field it's just kind of being given like the nbc stamp of approval and they just put it on for us no i think it's i think people really love it and i do i love it and i'm enjoying it that's a fine one for me i'm not gonna going to turn it off. Same. But like, I just, I think some of the other sports deserve like a moment. Yeah. Well, then you have to think about like which sports deserve moments taken away. I could name some, but like, I'm not going to publicly because like these are Olympians and.
Starting point is 00:15:55 No, and they work really hard. And they work really hard. Like yesterday, the women's soccer team beat Germany. That was fabulous. Huge W. When I tell you how boring it was, because that's the thing about soccer. like you're lucky if you get like two goals yeah so boring yeah worrying oh my god yeah that's rough and it's such a long game like at olympics it's i mean gymnastics it's like two minutes wrestling is for like a four minute round yeah yeah we know about wrestling thanks i mean
Starting point is 00:16:20 so do bruno and romeo they're reenacting what they saw oh you guys can't see they're being really cute and if you hear like some sort of like erotic growling just know that that's what it is and we apologize but you're welcome well those were the olympics recaps i'm excited for what today holds in store what today brings and now without further ado here are the fast five stories that you need to know yes and the fast five stories oh man i'm like you totally even though i knew it was coming i'm so unprepared i'm so sorry today's episode okay now still not ready okay well that's okay is brought to you by caraway caraway has enhanced every part of our summer testing out new recipes checking out their cookware you know getting a nice sear on

Starting point is 00:21:27 You're welcome okay our first story since we're bursting at the seams to talk about her blake lively is on the cover of vogue september issue with an accompanying interview and lots of photos and hugh jackman and like a confusing concept that i'm wrapping my head around like directed by Baz Luhrmann. Yeah and I just like want to say I hated that the cover said Blake by Baz like so big like it's her cover like their names were the same size. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. It's like it's her cover. She's like having a moment. Well it always is going to say something like Blake Lively on Colleen Hoover. Yeah but like Blake by Baz like I don't. I just didn't like it. Sorry. I will.
Starting point is 00:22:05 She loves Baz. So I don't think, yeah, that's what she said. He's her favorite director. That's cool. So I don't think she's mad about it. Who would you have direct your Vogue cover shoot?
Starting point is 00:22:14 Kenny Ortega. Totally. And like, there's no runner up. Totally. I'm not interested. I'll turn it down. Same.
Starting point is 00:22:20 I would go for John Chu as well. Oh, that's a good one. Yeah. Well, she is in Vogue doing a September issue which is major so she's the September issue cover star when you look at it at a glance like that feels right no no it's a huge deal for her first of all and I just like when when I saw her on this I don't know why to me I feel like she like exists in a vacuum like
Starting point is 00:22:40 of my interests like Taylor Swift and for her to be on the cover of September Vogue is so major and I'm really happy for her and I think it's so cool to see someone she's having a real peak in her career not like the only peak I think she's had a lot of peaks I'm just having a pretty big one right now and it's cool to see somebody like have a peak probably the biggest of their career like later in life after she's had four kids like I think that's really cool and I feel like I love her and I'm really happy for her and it's like you thought you know you can't ever outdo Serena Vanderwoodson but like here she is outdoing it yeah also I feel like I haven't looked at her in this light where they said the open saying I've come to meet a movie star but it's not a movie star who arrives it's a mother of four and like when I think of her I actually didn't until today think of her as a movie star because I also feel like some of
Starting point is 00:23:22 her projects and like no shade because she's in some amazing things she has weird selections she has like weird fake movies she has had like actually a very poor track record of choosing movies like and age of adeline is literally amazing but it was like a flop no and also her movies that are cited here are it's like sister of the traveling fans gossip girl slay but then also age of adeline and a simple favor and like age of adeline we loved but i didn't think it like was popular. It's literally the best movie ever made. She was incredible in it, but it is largely considered a flop. And A Simple Favor, like I thought it was a flop until they got a sequel.
Starting point is 00:23:53 So it was a flop, but it had a very small niche following, like a culty almost, which is great. But it also wasn't considered like a blockbuster. And she is a movie star like right now, but I feel her track record like doesn't reflect that. I feel like up until yesterday and she is a movie star like right now but I feel her track record like doesn't reflect that like I feel like up until yesterday she was a fake movie star I come let's not talk about the movie with the whale where she's like literally on a rock the whole time it's not jaws what's it called sharknado yeah she's like okay so like when I was in Portugal it was seriously four in the morning and we couldn't sleep so we like ordered McDonald's
Starting point is 00:24:21 Taylor Taylor Ben Margo and me we laid in my bed and watch that movie. It was seriously the dumb. We were cracking up. It's the dumbest movie, but literally one of the best movies I've ever seen. I agree with you. Although I think she's really smartly positioned herself now because I feel like for so long we had like those iconic older actresses who like got every movie and it's like every award season.
Starting point is 00:24:43 It's like the same crop of like Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore. And it was interesting to see who like the girlies, the millennial girlies who were, who were going to grow up and become that. And I feel like this sort of season of her life, Blake Lively sort of setting herself up for that. Yeah. Like a Reese Witherspoon. Exactly. Jennifer Aniston. And it makes so much sense. But I also think the context in all in which that came before her. And I'm actually like, I'm not even joking. Like I think the fact that she is literally the most beautiful woman alive like let's not take that for granted she's a talented actress she's best friends with Taylor Swift who everybody is the name on everybody's lips her husband is Deadpool Wolverine etc like all of that like rise up and
Starting point is 00:25:17 it's like she's the obvious choice and she's been right in front of us this whole time no I know and it's like we kind of like forgot about her in terms of acting yes for many years yes i love this season of her life i thought the photos were beautiful it's an homage to a movie i've never seen what is it monte carlo no it's like not catch me if you can't go to monte carlo what is it it's like catchers catch can some old-timey movie like catchers catch can no no what is it do they say it in the i'm sure they do but they say a lot of things like monte carlo is referenced do they say we're like also what about like casino no no i'll tell you the name of the movie hold on it was on liz was sorry where i was where i literally learn everything the cat no hold on monsieur lebron no catch is in it to catch a thief to catch a thief so she's
Starting point is 00:26:04 like playing the the girl in that movie and Hugh Jackman is like the the detective also it's weird that she's taking these lovey photos even though this looks like a bad photoshop just want to say it does look like a bad photoshop but this photo to me is like weird that he has to look at her like adoringly when that's his best friend's wife yes but I I think it makes it a lot better for these are like professionals and I'm sure she's more comfortable doing that with like someone who probably like knows her kids. No, I feel like it's better if it's either her husband, who's also an actor and could have been done,
Starting point is 00:26:32 but then it would take away. Right, or a complete stranger. She also shared, so last night was the premiere. And like, I feel like a lot of stories came out of it. She shared, first of all, she was wearing like the actual dress that Britney Spears wore. So it's like archiving things for Saatchi. Yes. And she talked a lot about how she just like loves Britney as a millennial. Like Britney means so much to her as a woman in this business. Britney means so much
Starting point is 00:26:51 to her. And I think that like my first thought was like, Oh, you're playing Britney in the biopic. Yeah. I saw Margot Washer. I posted that vis-a-vis Liz Woods. And I was like, Oh, let's add her to the list. And also in the picture of Britney wearing this dress from early 2000, she looks like Blake Lively. But then Blake, I think left an Instagram comment being like I would love to like any day you ask me but like I don't think I'm right for the role I think she cited her age obviously being uh well I think we should have like a young Brittany and an older Brittany yeah I loved it I saw her as Brittany in that moment but I hadn't up until that point thought of considered Blake Lively for the role we were thinking like teeny bopper teeny bopper energy yeah but we were also thinking teeny bopper for it ends with us and we got blake lively so
Starting point is 00:27:28 perhaps she can do both so the premiere last night she looked insane she was wearing britney's dress she shared that like this iconic rooftop scene if you read the book i think you're familiar with it was actually written by her husband ryan reynolds and that they like worked together so much and everybody's like that's so great for me the big story was justin baldoni like first event he's actually been to and i i read everyone's feedback they were like he's been sick he had an infection he was in the hospital okay fine that that could explain why he up until this point hasn't been doing a press for a movie he discovered he directed he bought the rights to and started sure even though when you look at his instagram story which i did yesterday it does look like he's doing like press for his movie he started started press 36 hours ago. Okay. So that could explain it away. The infection could explain why
Starting point is 00:28:09 it doesn't explain the unfollow from Colleen and Blake. We don't know if Blake was ever. She did. I'm sorry. Like she definitely did. That doesn't explain things to me. And then a lot of people keep saying this and I'm sorry, this line of thinking is really pissing me off. People are like, no, the studio is doing this intentionally. They't want um Justin Baldoni to be like the center of the press because they don't want his character to be likable because you know he in the I'm not gonna spoil it but in his character it's like a like a bad guy and and he's kind of triggering and you don't want that but like he's the first villain to ever be cast in a movie like no matter who you play like I think it's called acting yeah like that line of thinking is bothering me so much people like no no they're doing it to keep the
Starting point is 00:28:47 audience safe like what are you talking about no they're not audience if they wouldn't make the movie then no like i was i have fallen down such a like a spiral rabbit hole and people on tiktok are like this is them being respectful like have you ever seen a movie before like it's called acting when he was like buzzy and hyped about the movie in the beginning and he was always playing that person correct it was the face of the movie no and like please just like like that's not it like yeah that's not it and okay let's say that was it it's not wouldn't would not make sense as to why Blake and Colleen unfollowed him maybe to also show oh please like stop there's something going on and and people people's general reaction has been like if he isn't a nefarious actor this would be so shocking
Starting point is 00:29:25 because his brand up until this point has been like philanthropist woman supporter p-jump and i'm sorry it's always those guys it's always the philanthropist p-jump woman supporter who's an animal it's the one in the shirt that says the future is so and like apparently who was the last person that did this and we were like it was olivia wild when she was like shia shia shia and she's one of those women who's like women feminism above everything and so she's over here casting abusers with other women i feel like there was a man recently though who was literally this maybe it turned out to be the worst it's always those guys like so to me people are like no he can't be because he has a podcast with his wife where
Starting point is 00:30:05 he talks about respecting women. No, it's literally those guys with podcasts that quote unquote talk about respecting women. It's those guys. Yeah. So I just want to say, I have no proof that he did anything to Paris. But if he did, him being that type of philanthropist is incongruous with his brand. No, no. And it's congruous with those guys classic however
Starting point is 00:30:27 those guys pretend to be incongruous right like i'm just saying that to me is not a defense if anything it's proof i at this point i agree we've seen so much i'm so skeptical of guys who are like so like oh like i bow for my woman really like i would love to know what you do behind closed doors because you're definitely the meanest person. Like it's always. Like if you have to say it so much, thou doth protest too much. Okay, so I've definitely fallen down a rabbit hole. So let me tell you what else I found. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:54 There's this like one specific clip. I don't know what exactly his podcast is, but it's a lot about like marriage relationships. And it was, I think he hosts it with his wife. And he was talking about his their anniversary and he like gave this like speech on the podcast about like she's so amazing and the reason they are you know where they are is all because of her and like you know when he fucked up and when he it's like she leads with forgiveness and he was just harping so much on like on how forgiving
Starting point is 00:31:18 forgiving and gracious she is it's like what'd you do right and so that's different than like i never take out the trash and she forgives me right the clip had been viral initially being like oh look how cute and then like with a critical eye people are like what are you apologizing for like what'd you do yeah so there could be nothing there but i am like so down this rabbit hole i'm telling you like something's going on it's like there could be nothing there so we have to hold space for that but like also another is um like where there's smoke there's fire jackie there can't be nothing there because colleen hoover unfollowed the guy who bought the rights to her book like there can't be nothing there but that could also be that could happen to
Starting point is 00:31:54 anyone because like making your book into a movie is so personal and it's very possible to get your feelings hurt along the way even if it's not because he's like turned out not to be a feminist yeah you know what i mean like because it's a because he's like turned out not to be a feminist yeah you know what i mean like because it's a very like they're going to change things and that's so personal to you so that could happen with anyone no and i think a lot of people are just like choosing to see the justin baldoni in this world that they want to see because people love him from that show i have no stake in this game like i just showed up and i see him with his man bun and i'm like oh you have a podcast like there's some i'm saying i'm seeing this through like an extremely critical i am I have no stake in this game. I just showed up and I see him with his man bun and I'm like, oh, you have a podcast.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Like there's some, I'm saying, I'm seeing this through like an extremely critical eye. I'm definitely biased. But I think everybody else who like loves him is also biased too. Right. They see him as like this hot, you know, Gina's man. I feel not biased in this because I don't have an image of him.
Starting point is 00:32:38 Like I don't think of him. So I'm going off of what I've seen and what you're telling me. And there's definitely something. Thank you. Something. Something. So back to Blake Lively really quickly. I like only recently learned that her and her husband were like so tight with Hugh Jackman. I learned it at the football game. I
Starting point is 00:32:55 think with everybody else. Right. I always knew that like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman like had this thing because they're always on social media, like pranking each other. and it's like a Deadpool Wolverine thing I've never like looked into it but I've always known they've had this like public relationship and I do want to say well I think this has been an amazing press tour for Blake Lively for me like my own personal experience I think this has been actually really great press tour for Ryan Reynolds I have always like eye rolled him like I find I up until this point I had found him like genuinely insufferable and I never understood how like Taylor could like him so much because he he's like, to me, like always like
Starting point is 00:33:27 cropping his wife out of photos, like jokes with his wife, like shut up. Like, I don't know his whole shtick like forever really bothered me. And I read a blind item like a million years ago that I never forgot, which was basically, and this is totally alleged and like probably not true, but the blind item was that like he was really controlling and that whatever Blake Lively like wore, acted in, breathed, like he had to have full approval of. And like it kind of made sense. I'm like, well, her movies all flop. Like maybe it's because he's choosing them.
Starting point is 00:33:52 I don't believe that to be true anymore. But like I feel like that really colored the way I saw him for so long. And now like watching him, he's been like such a stand up husband, I think, in this press tour and not in a way like that Justin Baldoni would be. Do you know what I mean? Or do you disagree? I don't know I at a glance I'm like they're so like I I think they're so sweet and all the Taylor stuff is really great so for the last year it's been like all positive Ryan Reynolds but I haven't like heard him speak or anything and then I saw that he interviewed the guy who plays Alice and at first I saw just that he did that I didn't watch the interview and then like a clip of the interview started
Starting point is 00:34:25 and he started talking. I was like, no. Okay, so it's like a skit. It wasn't like a real interview. No, I know, but just he started talking. Okay, okay, yeah, yeah. You know, he's not for me. I didn't even hear the interview.
Starting point is 00:34:36 He just started talking. Yes, he is not for me. But my like dislike of him has definitely gone down severely. I've never really thought about how I feel about him. I've always disliked him. Like I've always found Van City Reynolds, like his Instagram shit, like I like, shut up. I have found his shit like so fucking annoying. But like now, I don't know. I'm kind of liking it. As a father and husband. I agree. It's like a better light to see him in.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Yeah. And there like, is this clip that has gone viral on tiktok like a thousand times of this speech blake lively made i forget he was winning some award or whatever and she was the one who gave it to him and it was such a sweet speech about how he's always like running home he comes home in costume whether it's across the street or across the world like he comes home like he all he wants to do is get home to his family i loved it so much yeah that really like also was a catalyst in the changing of my opinion of him yeah my opinion it's in flux right now yeah and also like his obsession and like like the way he's so down to clown like with taylor swift and like put her music like in his yeah you know what like i think i might and you know it's hard it's hard for me to say i think i might i might have been wrong
Starting point is 00:35:38 about him no no he's definitely a good guy rising tides raise all shines but i think um unless we're like watching his movies and the things that like his art we're not gonna stand because it's not for us it's not for us even though remember when i said i feel like my husband watches deadpool a lot low-key since i've said that i have come in like literally eight separate times he's watching it and i said it to him i was like oh and he he was away that weekend i was like either way i said on the show and i realized it's true like you kind of like watch deadpool i'm obsessed like he and he was like oh my god he was like i was watching it on the plane lol oh something we also haven't spoken about just really briefly is the guy who plays atlas old atlas brendan sclinner he's from
Starting point is 00:36:18 19 what's that one 23 oh my god he was so good in that he is so hot like i think that was a perfect like i'm so excited i'm excited too we're gonna try and see it we are gonna try and see it this weekend um this has been like a fun this has been a fun moment and i'm thankful to everyone who made it happen and and i do also need to say like i feel like we gave it a hard time at points those pictures impeded its journey yeah but perhaps we were wrong and we'll be able to call it when we see the movie, which I feel like we were wrong based on everything I've seen. No, I think we're going to love it. Margot Walsh, right? Like we said, said she saw
Starting point is 00:36:52 it, said it was amazing. And I pretty much like everything she likes. Yeah. Except when she don't like Amy Schumer's movie, I feel pretty, but she was, she couldn't understand it. No, no, no, no. Like only real ones understood that movie. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. A hundred percent. That's literally the best movie ever made. It is it seriously like if you could have made a movie of my innermost thoughts like it would have been i feel pretty yeah not enough she doesn't get enough credit for that movie like trainwreck is like her big movie and everybody's like but like to me i feel pretty was just as good and depending on the season of your life like better at times maybe not even better but truly more relatable yeah like i think like i wish that
Starting point is 00:37:24 i feel pretty got the barbie treatment like the way everybody was like girlhood girlhood like that's fucking i feel pretty bitch okay agreed that's why amy schumer should have been barbie by the way the older you get maturing is realizing amy schumer should have been barbie and that's not a clown on margot robbie she was amazing and that the storyline should have been like elf barbie elf like cast out of barbie land for being an outcast. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Yeah. It writes itself. It writes itself. Okay. Are you ready for our next story? I am. I feel like I had one more thought about this, but I can't remember it. So let's just move on.
Starting point is 00:37:57 Well, we could always circle back because we're talking about the teeny boppers. Sabrina, it's the summer of Sabrina, according to Variety Mag. She is their cover girl this year. She's talking about hitting number one on the charts, getting advice from her best friend, Taylor, and what Barry Keoghan really thinks about her lyrics. So all of those things are really great things that she's talking about. There was one point of the interview that really stuck out for me because one theme that they're talking about, which is I think something that you and I always talk about, where she said she feels like a new artist, but this is her sixth album. Right. Which is like sort of this weird place to be in.
Starting point is 00:38:29 It's very Disney Channel coded. It's very Disney Channel coded. And she's talking about some of her early records, you know, Thumbs. Skiddly dee da da. And this is what she said, quote, for the people who love those early records and listen to them, I love you for that. Oh, no. But I personally feel a sense of separation from them that's fine largely due to the shift in who i am as a person and as an
Starting point is 00:38:49 artist pre-pandemic and post-pandemic so she's talking to me thank you sabrina um and i think that's totally fair she's grown up those are like frontal lobe years that happened in between so she's changed who she is as a person the pandemic changed who everyone is and also I think the level of the incident with Olivia and Joshua that like completely changes and hardens you as a person yeah so I think the combination of those three things yes I can understand why you know too young no longer represents Sabrina and now she's in a please please please era for sure but she was also just like in a box she was very limited in what she could put out. I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't even write those songs.
Starting point is 00:39:27 Like when you're on a Disney contract, like you just do what you're told. Yeah. So while I think those songs like musically are very great, do I think they're like Sabrina's innermost thoughts? No, like I don't think she wrote them. No. And I do think her last album, which was Emails and that had like, just because I liked a boy skin, she said like that sonically, it's like the little sister to this next album
Starting point is 00:39:45 that's coming out short and sweet she said it's like the hot older sis she also said she finished the album before espresso and please please please came out and she's so glad that she did because like perhaps the reception of those songs one would have put so much pressure and two might have changed what she did it she might have been like oh if people liked let me do more of that that's that me latte. Yeah, me latte. Yeah, latte me. This is like a complete work of art that's not influenced by her success. And for that, I'm so excited.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Me too. She's also just someone who's having such a moment. And I'm so happy for her. And I think this must be how people feel about Chapel Roan. Like for me, Sabrina is somebody who's been on my radar for, like I remember in college and my internship listening to her music. like she's been on my radar and it's like, it's really nice to see somebody who you think is talented, like finally getting the success that they deserve. And for Chappell Roan, like that's something, a total blind spot for me. I've never
Starting point is 00:40:34 heard of this person up until last week, but like, she just had the biggest, you know, daytime performance at Lollapalooza, like having record success. I'm sure she'll be on like the next season of SNL. But isn't she like a true new artist kind of but like people have been been knowing chapel for many years she had like an internet following many years yeah how many albums i don't know how much music she's actually released that's a very good and i also want to see how old she is like you can only have done it for so long yeah she's i think a similar age to oh 26 okay yeah you're right yeah and so like those people must be having an amazing day you know yeah yeah I just like I I'm familiar with some of the music h-o-t-t-o-g-o and it slaps it slaps but it's not I feel like it takes a lot of energy to become like a new fan of someone and I'm
Starting point is 00:41:20 currently just not in the the era of my life where I have energy. No, and you told me about Chapel Roan on the show. I had never heard of her. And I know that if I came to her organically, I would have thought it was Chappelle Roan. You would have thought it was Chappelle Roan for sure. And so now I'm like waiting for it to organically hit me because I feel like now I notice it because you told me about it, but I don't know that I would have gotten there yet.
Starting point is 00:41:41 Yeah, but it's also interesting because has it organically hit you? No. H-O-T-T, like once you said that, I would have gotten there yet. Yeah. But it's also interesting because has it organically hit you? No. H-O-T-T. Like once you said that, I would have been like, oh yeah, I've heard that from people's like Instagram stories and stuff. Right.
Starting point is 00:41:50 But no, I don't like walk down the aisle and CVS and it's playing. I know. She's like not have like, she's having crazy unprecedented success, but within like a bubble of the internet, like it hasn't bled over to like radio and mainstream, which I find so shocking because usually like mainstream these days takes
Starting point is 00:42:06 their notes from Tik TOK. Right. So I don't know like what's stopping. She's definitely feels like, cause I see those tweets all the time. People being like, I'm at that age where I don't know who Chapel road is. Like why hasn't she bled over yet?
Starting point is 00:42:16 I don't know. But I think if she keeps doing what she's doing, it will. Yeah, it will. But like, you can't walk down the aisle at CBS without hearing espresso. Like everyone knows. I love Sabrina. Like I'm so happy for it's a summer of Sabrina. yeah it will but like you can't walk down the aisle at cbs without hearing espresso like everyone
Starting point is 00:42:25 knows espresso i love sabrina like i'm so happy for it's the summer of sabrina and someone was quoted in the article who works with her that was like everyone who works with sabrina like can see how talented she is and that like she is it and it's so nice that like after all this time like the world is seeing that but they say it was only a matter of time because she's so genuinely talented what did she say about tailored oh and the other thing i want to say about blake lively is i think it's very cool how pretty much every single time she's being spoken to by anyone like there's always a question about taylor swift and i actually don't think that bothers her at all like i think she like really loves the lore and the swifties and like appreciates the value that
Starting point is 00:43:00 that brings to her life but also to her career and i think it like must annoying. Like every single time there is a question, same with Sabrina. And I don't think it bothers her. No. And she always has great answers. Yeah. She's like, she was asked yesterday, like her favorite song, her favorite song. And she said, literally, that's the hardest question. Like I couldn't even tell you, I'd have an easier time telling you my favorite child. Like, that's funny. That is funny. So Sabrina was talking about Taylor and about how apparently when she did skims and then she said that she asked Taylor then Taylor haters were like asking for permission to do a campaign is crazy so she said quote she's such a gangster with all of it no matter what people are saying everything
Starting point is 00:43:34 that I've ever seen her tackle she's done so with grace the post about me having to ask for her permission no she's one of my best best friends and we grab dinner or text and catch up like you would with your best friend she said it's so cool for me to get perspective on this whole process from her and the community of artists that i feel i'm close to to get advice from them on stuff that you can't just ask the internet we're always playing each other our music and whenever i start to think maybe i'll get on twitter and say something about this i'm always like maybe i'll write a song instead got it got it yeah so just good friend oh i also we had spoken less earlier in the week that suki is opening for taylor era's london we didn't talk about it on the show oh we didn't well suki waterhouse um is opening for
Starting point is 00:44:12 taylor swift in wembley and you know who else is and i just want to say i fucking called that shit i saw it but i forgot maizey peters yeah that's right i just want to say like i said i said that she was going to do so oh that she was going to open yeah like cool like I said that so cool and I said here I'm sure you can go find it like I said it so congrats just edits the list of things I was writing about it's a very short list and you know who should be opening for tailored me Mimi Webb yes we had this conversation we had it on patreon 2023 at a glance where I was sharing Maisie Peters songs that were my favorite oh for sure yep and I said's going to open for Taylor. And did I say Mimi should?
Starting point is 00:44:48 Will I stand by it? Yeah. And just like I waited for Sabrina to have her flowers, I sit here waiting for Mimi and her flowers. She sat. I'm sat waiting. She sat waiting. Are you ready for our next story?
Starting point is 00:45:02 Or do I need to take away my shoe from romeo before it's gonna get destroyed romeo's been eating your shoe for about 10 minutes i knew i didn't say anything like if we want to keep the boys at bay i'll get you a new pair of shoes like you just you kind of have to give the shoe over okay as long as you get me a new pair of shoes because he's been eating them all of summer let him have it like the did you guys see during the ad break how insane they were being like they're both separate they're both at peace like you just have to give the shoe up for the cause okay our next story a little new throwback news Paris Hilton joins a hot dog costume wearing Nicole Richie to film the Simple Life reboot at a Sonic drive-in so pictures have emerged of Paris and Nicole getting back to work on the Simple Life reboot the duo who call themselves
Starting point is 00:45:41 Silly and Billy on the reality show put a chic spin on the fast food chain's blue uniform with Hilton sporting a pair of Barkley silver heels and Nicole wearing some cute pumps as well and styling their uniforms as mini dresses. So the girls are back in the simple life. We knew they were going to be back. Working at Sonic. By the way, I love
Starting point is 00:46:00 their first top being like, first of all totally branded. Love that for Sonic. But also fast food, like that's actually a really hard job job and i think like a lot of the machines are really confusing so i think entertainment wise like this will be very funny yeah i love and also danny paligrino was there i don't know what his involvement was but i saw paparazzi pictures like he was like like their manager or something i'm not sure what the like setup was but he was there it'll be interesting to see the format i feel like the thing that made the show great the secret sauce was the chemistry between the two of them.
Starting point is 00:46:27 And because they were like such good friends. They're like not anymore. I know. I feel like they're good friends again, but like to that level of closeness, I don't know. No. And also they are like mom's business owners. They have like a lot to lose now.
Starting point is 00:46:41 What was so iconic about them was like the reckless nature in which they live their lives. They were just like driving cars 100 miles an hour, wearing tiny skirts, like making out with boys from the middle of nowhere. Like they didn't give a flying fuck. Now it's like this show is a part of, but like she has this huge Paris, obviously DJ, internet persona, like this huge career. Nicole has this huge fashion empire, like, and they're both moms.
Starting point is 00:47:01 I just don't think it's going to be like what it was for the sake of nostalgia like it'll be fun but if you ever really truly want to feel something it's on prime the simple life like do that like that's a journey worth taking it won't be what it was they're not going to be doing those things but I think there's room for it to still be like good and fun and they are both like funny interesting people so they don't have to be doing that in order to be funny and interesting. No, they don't. We'll see. Romeo's taking the second shoe.
Starting point is 00:47:29 So I'll just send me a link. One, two shoe. Yeah. Gone. Okay. Enjoy Rome. He's got good taste. He didn't take my crap from Amazon.
Starting point is 00:47:35 He took your nice ones. Yeah. He loves an Ugg. Listen, those Uggs were like on their last legs anyway. Not to be a bitch. Like they're like brown now. They were once purple. No, I got them like six, eight eight months ago how often do you get new slippers
Starting point is 00:47:49 uh when they're from Amazon weekly when they're Ugg though oh I I really treated myself because my all my other slippers were worn down so I was like I want a pair of like cozy slippers and yeah I've worn them a lot but I wasn't going to get a new pair like this year maybe in the winter okay I didn't know that they were UGG. Oh yeah. But they're already wet on the inside. So many times I've put my shoe into my slippers here in this house and they're wet.
Starting point is 00:48:12 Thanks Ro. You think it was Ro? Like, how do you know? How do you know? It's really, yeah. Like,
Starting point is 00:48:18 how do you know it wasn't duck? It's true. Me pouring water in my slippers. Literally. Like, how do you know? You don't know for sure that it was Romeo. We don't know. We'll never know know so looking forward to this where do they say where we're going to be able to watch it uh i feel like when we announced it that it was coming back we
Starting point is 00:48:34 had announced i feel like it's peacock i feel like it's peacock too i feel like every streaming service like has a moment you know um and peacock like was kind of slow to start they didn't really have much and max i think was it for like to start. They didn't really have much. And Max, I think was it for like a really long time. Max was really having a big moment. And now with Love Island, with the Olympics, I think, you know, Peacock is having, traders.
Starting point is 00:48:53 It's a summer of Peacock. I'm happy for them. But I do think it's not like one, you only get one. I think it comes in waves. Like sometimes Hulu's having a moment, Kardashians, Tell Me Lies. But I think with the newer ones,
Starting point is 00:49:03 like to submit yourself as like a real stream for, for so long, I felt like Peacock was like, it could get shut down at any minute. Like it was so like, whatever. Now I feel like because they had a moment, like they're cemented after Max had a moment, I was like, good for them. No, I don't feel like Peacock would get shut down
Starting point is 00:49:16 because it's tethered to NBC. So as long as like NBC is making content and doing something like Peacock will exist, has a leg to stand on. But yeah, it's been a slow start, but the best things are. You don't want to be a flash in the pan no you don't no are you ready for our fourth story yeah justin timberlake had a vape pen rolex and 300 cash at the time of his dw irs police report shows wait what kind justin timberlake's pockets were full when he was arrested on dw i charges in
Starting point is 00:49:43 the hamptons earlier this summer after refusing to take a breathalyzer, he was placed in handcuffs, put into the back seat of a squad car, and taken to the Sag Harbor Village Police Department, where the responding young officer took inventory of his property. He was reportedly in possession of a vape pen, a pricey Rolex, a gold ring, and a wallet that contained $306 in cash during his arrest. Oh, this is so interesting to me. Yeah. Like, he obviously didn't know he was going to get arrested. So what does Justin Timberlake, like a huge pop star,
Starting point is 00:50:09 what does he bring out with him? Like to go get drinks? This like tracks nothing out of the ordinary. I'm dying to know like flavor brand of the vape. I have to assume it was a tobacco, like nicotine vape, because if it was pot, like, is that illegal in the state of New York? And I don't think that would be called a vape pen i think it would really i feel like they would have said marijuana they totally would have said marijuana right so i think we can safely assume like a miley a jewel yes yes what do you think he's no because also if he was high that would been in this right right right what do you think he smokes um i feel like he does like tobacco flavored Juul. You think he charges it like in his phone charger? Yeah. I don't think he does. I think he's disposable. I think he's wasteful. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:50:53 I guess like what are the. I think he's a single use. So what are the kids like they do like puff bars? What's that new one? I'm like not caught up, but it's literally like a big, thick rectangle. Yeah. Like a tiny little. Yeah. I mean, he might do like smilers. People like is that but it's literally like a big thick rectangle yeah like a tiny little yeah i mean he might do like smilers people like is that what it's called they throw them to me when we go to when we uh perform our sold out shows the gizmo girls swirly night out last one's coming up august 17th at the atlantic city borgata casino can't wait to see you there tickets available at the toast podcast.com store i don't think he does stigs i feel like only we do stigs yeah by the way i wasn't gonna bring up stigs stigs popular. Yeah. Like how do we even get introduced to them?
Starting point is 00:51:28 Oh, I'll tell you. I was at a birthday party of Ben's friend. His name was Victor's party. And I was in my Jewel era. And one of Ben's friends, I think it was like this guy, James, who I'm not like super tight with. He like was telling me about it and like it was over. But I think also because when Juul was going down and they were taking away the flavors, the fruity flavors, then you had to find your flavor in another company. So I think Stig had a flavor that you like.
Starting point is 00:51:56 Mango. Yeah. And there you have it. It's like literally so weird that they had to like shut down Juul and their fruity flavors, just like this one company. But you can go and get a fruity vape anywhere else. You know what we need to add to
Starting point is 00:52:07 my list of biggest regrets? Not investing in Juul? Yeah. Well, why? You would have then lost a lot of money. No, I would have, I'm a conservative investor. Like once it hit, I would have like sold. So like I have to go find the email, like a million, way before Juul was popular. I want to say like three years before Juul took off I got a PR package like with all the pods and I didn't even smoke it I was like what is this and it was right when electric cigarettes had like become a thing and they emailed me they wanted to work with influencers in exchange for equity they didn't have like a lot of money and I was like girl no ew no you can't even regret that because you would never there's no world where you would have said yes to that
Starting point is 00:52:40 because any box that shows up at your door like you're not interested in equity I need to find the email even though now if I search like jewel in my email i probably have like a thousand things yeah because it's always in the news rip jewel rip jewel i just i feel like they were like singled out don't you feel like in hindsight you can get fruity flavored vapes everywhere anywhere yeah i just searched jewel in my email and i found like a hate a piece of hate mail i got somebody must have found my personal email. Her name is Claire. Subject line, Jewel, all caps. You lost a follower.
Starting point is 00:53:10 How could you post an Instagram about Jewel? How could you take money from Big Tobacco? I literally didn't. The deaths of youths who start smoking because you posted that meme are on you. Wow. Okay, Claire, like you're going to be okay. I don't think she's going to be okay. I don't think she's gonna be okay i don't think she is i think that email points to like something wrong yeah something wrong with claire that's
Starting point is 00:53:32 really crazy yeah thanks claire are you ready for our next story our fifth and final no little book news are you not if you're not ready because i need to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by Dreamland, Dreamland Bebe. Dreamland Baby Co., as it's officially called, is such a great place for baby things. I started using Dreamland, oh, I can't remember, a few years ago at this point. They have so many great products for babies. My favorite are the weighted sleep sack and the weighted swaddle. So if you're in your swaddle or sleep sack era, which I'm very much in mind right now, the Dreamland sleep sack is different because it is weighted. So it does for baby what a weighted blanket does for you. Keeps you calm, reduces anxiety, faster to fall asleep, better to stay asleep, warm, cozy. We love cozy vibes. So does baby and the Dreamland
Starting point is 00:54:20 Baby Co. has such great sleep sacks and swaddles. So the swaddle, if you have a younger baby, it can be worn a number of different ways. It could be both arms in, one arm out, or both arms out. Every baby is different. You know, babies are more personal than comedy, more personal than food, as is baby sleep. And then the sleep sack is your ordinary sleep sack, except it's weighted and it's super cozy and delicious. And it's made with great materials. The weight is evenly distributed, so it's not too heavy or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:54:48 And we love it. So we bought the Dreamland Sleep Sack, as I said, probably a year and a half ago at this point. We've been using them for all stages, all ages of baby sleep, and it's been amazing. So go to dreamlandbabyco.com and enter our code TOAST at checkout to receive 20% off site-wide and free
Starting point is 00:55:06 shipping. This offer is for new and existing customers. So toast for 20% off at dreamlandbabyco.com. Thank you so much, Jackie. And thank you to the Dreamland Baby Co. Today's episode is also brought to you by Splash Refresher. So Splash Refresher mean everything to me. Like if you know, if you know about me, you know, a core tenant of Swirly Summer has been splash refresher. Fun fact about me is I've managed to make it to 23 years of age with drinking like the least possible water needed to survive. And in my health journey, like learning the importance of water was tough. Like I've always knew, I knew, like I knew it was important, but really seeing the effects of it, especially now that I work out a couple of times a week, it's made it really hard. And splash refresher has
Starting point is 00:55:43 just been huge for me. It's flavored water. It's so delicious and it has zero calories. It comes in a bunch of different flavors. For me, the berry is going to be number one. So if you respect a good cup of water, but not really in the mood, like not really the thing for you, Splash Refresher will become your new ride or die. No matter how hard you try, I'm always a little dehydrated. We can never bother with just a boring glass of water. It's like pulling teeth and that's where Splash Refresher comes in. It has zero sugar, zero calories, and a splash of sweetness. It's like water, but good. So make Splash Refresher your go-to hydrator. It'll put a little smile on your face, even on the toughest days. They've got five craveable flavors. They're
Starting point is 00:56:21 there to satisfy your hydration with a little bit of flavor. So that's wild berry, which is my favorite, the acai grape, pineapple mango, lemon, and mandarin orange. They are delicious. They are bright. They are flavorful. They are hydrating. And most importantly, you're not going to believe it once you taste it, but it is true. They are zero calories. Guilt-free, delicious way to stay refreshed. I always keep one in the car. I keep one in the studio. They're so good. I had a bunch shipped to the Hamptons. I keep like a whole crate at the studio and at my house. So shop now at Sam's Club, Walmart, Kroger, and your other favorite retailers. Thank you, Turt. You're welcome.
Starting point is 00:56:53 Our fifth and final story, a little book news. Liza Minnelli will release her memoirs. Memoirs of Eliza. It's her own damn story. And she's going to share it. Liza Minnelli said of her memoir, which will be published in spring 2026. Okay. Thanks for the advance notice.
Starting point is 00:57:14 Liza Minnelli is ready to put pen to paper. On Tuesday, Grand Central Publishing announced its acquisition of a memoir by the EGOT icon. She opened up about entertainment tonight about the memoir, which is set to be published in two years. Is it one part or two? so far it's one part quote today i opened my heart and my lungs to shout about a story which has never been told mine read about it here and this will have to hold you until we publish when it all comes true i just want to say if liza minnelli can write her book in one part so can chair sorry not to be a hater the memoir sharing to this i agree the memoir will be a candid review of her life, both professionally and personally. Her extraordinary life story begins with a childhood in the spotlight,
Starting point is 00:57:49 being the daughter of actress Judy Garland and director Vincente Minelli. Her career spans over six decades with notable breakout successes in Cabaret and Liza with a Z. The memoir will also examine raw moments of her life, including her four marriages and struggles with substance abuse. Oh, damn. I didn't know that. Yes.
Starting point is 00:58:06 I mean, I'm sure she has an insane story. Who's her mom? Judy Garland. Okay. Wizard of Oz. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I just saw this funny clip of Joan Rivers
Starting point is 00:58:16 on some late night show. And she was like, the interviewer was like, what do you want your grandson to be when he grows up? And she said, gay. Because who else is going to care that I was friends with Judy Garland and it was so funny and I get okay like this is a blind spot for me this is like an era of Hollywood that I feel like Olivia's obsessed with yeah I don't know Olivia's obsessed with like Judy Garland not Liza Minnelli right right and I know she's like a gay icon cabaret star for me like arrested development
Starting point is 00:58:44 Lucille too okay arrested development but also sex in the city too movie oh what does she do there she performs at the wedding of stanford and oh okay that's so funny um and like that's like my breadth of knowledge when it comes to her career and i know like she is very storied like iconic career so i actually think the book is great for her no and i feel the same way about her definitely a blind spot i don't feel bad about it she's before our time. And I feel like she's someone whose book I would read and then have like an immense appreciation for her
Starting point is 00:59:10 and like take me down a rabbit hole of all these things that I didn't know, a la Priscilla Presley's book. Yep. Carrie White, the hairdresser from the 80s. Her, um. 60s. Also, when I think of her, I think of that iconic Twitter account,
Starting point is 00:59:24 Liza Minnelli Outlived. And anytime like a major world event happens, iconic Twitter account Liza Minnelli outlived and anytime like a major world event happens they'll say Liza Minnelli outlived or if somebody dies Liza Minnelli outlived Betty White yeah it's really well she's 78 like Betty White was in her 90s I don't know why I thought she was like 100 yeah and then does she have a famous spawn Liza Minnelli oh I thought it was like a three generation oh like Priscilla Lisa Marie energy no and like Billy Lord I always get their trio they're like Carrie Fisher that's like a similar era of Hollywood yeah the three of them I'm always like so who's Liza's child I don't think she's famous no if she even has they're not coming up on her imdb mini so no interesting well this is a
Starting point is 01:00:08 good good book it's kind of like book season i feel like everybody's announcing books yeah i like that i like books i like to read speaking of redhead's episode finally dropped paradise problem check it out one read the book because it's a great swirly summer read and two if you have no intention of reading the book listen to the episode because we're just like fun and we're having a good time and it's our last episode till october because we're taking a month off for dana's mat leave because you support women in the arts we do and we support working women and working mothers as we always have and you always will yeah i don't think that's up for debate well everybody be sure to check that out and the fabulous news in addition to the redheads episode finally dropping is that the episode for today is not over because we have dear toasters our weekly advice segment where jacks and
Starting point is 01:00:48 i try to help the swirlies out whatever it is that they're going through we try to give our best advice we think we're you know sound of mind individuals and it's always good to hear from you know a third party perspective who is sound of mind yeah so if you ever want to write into us we do it every wednesday we take three submissions it's dear toasters at gmail.com that should be the name of the segment not not Deer Toasters, but a third party perspective who is sound of mind. With particular interest in the matter. The email account is deertoasters at gmail.com. You can write to us there. You can head over to our website, thetoastpodcast.com. There's an anonymous submission box there. That's also
Starting point is 01:01:18 where you can find tickets to our live show in Atlantic City. So I'll save that one for last, actually. Okay. Ready for this? Yeah. Nice furlies. I'm 28 and I plan a co-ed indoor soccer team every Wednesday night. I've been on the same team for the last six years. Different people come and go, but the most part it's the same people consistently. The guy that runs the team has been there from the beginning and then last year or so I have caught him sneakily taking pictures of me. I never brought it up to anyone because I had no real proof, but it is very obvious, like when you're trying to take a photo
Starting point is 01:01:46 of someone without them knowing, holding it at his chest, pointing it awkwardly up, like not naturally holding his phone. I finally asked a girl on my team to pay attention and see if she noticed it. She texted me late last night after our game and said she saw his camera app open and saw him take two photos. The weird thing is it's literally when I'm walking into the building or when I'm sitting down after the game to take my shoes off i'm wearing soccer shorts and a baggy t-shirt like nothing scandalous here fuck the society that i even have to mention that even
Starting point is 01:02:12 more weird is that his wife's brother plays on the team also i don't know what to do the easy answer is just to quit the team and never come back but i feel like this is why so many women never speak up and men get away with shit like this and i feel like i need to do something about it 100 especially because you've been here for six years and you like doing this team this is so fucked up my first question is is like is there any sort of superior who you can raise this to right is there like a way to get him kicked off the team no like or someone have someone else handle it and someone else speak to him because I totally understand like you not wanting to confront him yourself it's like it's so scary okay but I feel torn because like yes they shouldn't be
Starting point is 01:02:45 able to get away with this and like you have to speak up for you know all the women who can but at the end of the day like you're also putting yourself in danger and like this man's obviously a freak and so if you get him kicked off or like you tell everyone like this is the type of freak who would retaliate and like your safety is paramount you know yeah but I think you have to do something especially like he's married and there's a brother on the team like I think you have to do something, especially like he's married and there's a brother on the team. Like I think you need to bring it up to like everyone on the team and then everyone goes and talks to him.
Starting point is 01:03:10 Yeah. Or if there's like someone higher up that you could talk to or this has nothing to do with your work, right? No, it's just a co-ed indoor soccer team. That's so weird. He's so creepy. No, but also like I feel like you should,
Starting point is 01:03:24 like men like this think they're preying on people who are like vulnerable and weak but you should literally just go up to me like why are you taking photos of me like be ballsy like that and who has the authority to kick him off the team because he shouldn't be on the team after this like that's like the hard part about being an adult is like there's no infrastructure it's not like a principle yeah so that's why you have to get your okay that's why you have to get your teammates like all on the same page especially like this one girl saw it and she can like say what she saw so you need to talk to the other people you should all confront him and get him kick her off the team and then also the wife's brother should also know that her husband is doing this i don't even know what he's doing
Starting point is 01:03:55 with the like what is he doing but it's not good there's no good outcome no if you do take that route which i agree with like then also like just be aware that there like might be like a freak who he is a freak, like mad at you and like, you know, lock your doors, things like that. Yeah. Like you don't like, it's such a tough situation because you don't want to put someone in the position of like wanting to retaliate, you know? Of course. But he, what is he doing with these pictures?
Starting point is 01:04:20 I don't know that she said they're not even like a freaky situation to think about. So tell everyone I would, I would have a meeting with the entire team and ask them to like stand behind you and confront him kick him off the team and take it from there and that's that you know but i agree wife's brother like this is a person who's married too like she's gotta know a hundred percent she has to know she's gotta know this one's so funny to me okay hi jackson claude well this part isn't funny. Sorry. Back in November, my boyfriend of three and a half years cheated on me. I moved out immediately and out of guilt, he offered to pay rent at a new place for me and my dog. It was officially an Airbnb, but he's been paying month
Starting point is 01:04:55 to month directly to the owner ever since. I no longer speak to him and I have no clue how long he intends to pay my rent for my living. Do I reach out to him or just keep coasting? I get anxiety thinking that I could be displaced at any moment. Also, I'm almost ready to start dating again. So do I have to disclose to future partners that my ex pays for my house? For the record, it's a two bedroom with a yard
Starting point is 01:05:12 and four times the amount of something I could really afford on my own. Thank you. Okay. I know other people would be like, I don't want to live somewhere. I feel like we always read that in books. Like, I don't want to take your money.
Starting point is 01:05:22 Take the money and run. And in all the months that he's been paying for your rent like I hope you've been saving your rent money so that if one day he just doesn't pay it anymore that you can at least pay that month and until you find a new place and find the time to find a new place I think you should totally stay there and enjoy and you can date that's awesome yeah once you're in a serious relationship and at like a real you know boyfriend girlfriend situation one you could either tell your partner that this is a situation or then you could be like, it's cut it off. I've moved on. But yeah, like awesome. Can I ask you a question? Like this happens, you get cheated on by your boyfriend three and a half years.
Starting point is 01:05:58 Nothing worse. But then he does this. Like, do we forgive him? Is he asking for, if he, is he looking for forgiveness? I feel like he's doing this because he feels bad, but does he even want to be together? Or did he cheat on you with someone who he's now with? No, I don't think he wants to be together. I think he like what the vibe that I got is like,
Starting point is 01:06:15 he really, really inconvenienced and hurt you. And like, how can you make up for that? You really can't. But like, this is, this is significant.
Starting point is 01:06:20 Yeah, no, I could forgive someone. That doesn't mean I'm going to get back together with them. I don't mean, I don't mean, I mean like, do you like this person hurt you and you're not gonna get back together with him but do you forgive them for the thing that they did yeah I think so as long as they're also their other actions like they're apologetic they feel bad they're not
Starting point is 01:06:35 running around town spreading rumors yeah I think that you could forgive this person also it's better for you to forgive them and not hold on to that anger and no this is a kind of major like yeah it's a power move. If you've ever cheated on someone and you feel so bad, like you don't know what to do with your guilt. Like you don't want to get back with them, but you don't want them to be sad. Like pay their rent.
Starting point is 01:06:52 Yeah. That is extremely generous. That's awesome. So take it as far as you can save your money so that when the day comes, you're not out on your tail, save your money and that you can just pay the Airbnb for the month while you look for a place and you know say that was a nice that was a nice place to live for a while and who did you used to
Starting point is 01:07:09 date money bags like paying two rents and this is like a massive spot love it maybe you should get back together with it no kidding i'm totally kidding okay our third and final is an update from something we read pretty recently about the girl okay i'll just read you her original submission she started dating this guy two months ago and tonight before leaving to go hang out with From something we read pretty recently about the girl. Okay, I'll just read you her original submission. She started dating this guy two months ago and tonight before leaving to go hang out with him, she pooped. He picked her up. They went to a bar with her friends and then came back to her apartment.
Starting point is 01:07:35 He went to the bathroom right when they got there. From the living room, she heard a flush and then she heard him peeing and then flushing again. So clearly something was in the toilet that he had to flush before peeing. Regretfully, she asked, why did you flush? And he said, no reason. And now she can't stop thinking about the fact that he had to flush before peeing regretfully she asked why did you flush and he said no reason and now she can't stop thinking about the fact that she forgot to flush when she went to the bathroom while getting ready and he definitely saw her poop do i ask him about this do i need to lie convince myself and we basically told her like shut the fuck up um you can ask him when you're married yeah and there's a world in which he did something
Starting point is 01:08:01 that he needs to flush first yes and so here's her update update from the Swirly who recently learned that she has serious toilet flushing issues. Unfortunately, I didn't get to wait until we were married to ask if he saw my duty in the toilet because my dumb ass forgot to flush again. Luckily, this time it was just pee and the topic came up. Anyways, to make a long story short, I did indeed forget to flush that time and he did see what we all deep down knew that he saw. On the bright side, he didn't make me feel embarrassed about it in the slightest and it validated that he truly is a p-jump and the p-jump that i thought he was no so he's really mature i'm happy for you that you've met him like
Starting point is 01:08:31 i'm not mature enough no no i'm mad at you like i can't i'm i'm in shock although i do want to say sometimes in relationships what is the book that i read they turned into a movie with lucy hill the hating game she got so violently sick with this guy that she was like into. And she's like throwing up diarrhea and like he's taking care of her because he like went to med school, but he dropped out. It can bring you together. It can. Like bodily functions are horrible. They're seriously the most embarrassing. Like I know married women, one of them sitting right next to me who won't even fart. Like I know, but it does have potential. Like this is a person who hopefully is going to see you give birth. I totally agree.
Starting point is 01:09:05 But the way she described their relationship, it seemed like very early days. They weren't even like boyfriend and girlfriend. They were just dating two months. I don't even know if he knew that he liked her. So why would you like stick around to find out when you've seen someone's duty? But it's because like he's mature and it didn't phase him. And I'm so happy that there's people like that. So this could have gone either way.
Starting point is 01:09:23 And I'm really happy for you that it gone the way of like you realize this guy really likes you he's super mature we love that just know like this could have gone so poorly just know just know that this could have gone really poorly and let it be a lesson to like fucking flush okay like unacceptable unacceptable yeah yeah yeah but thank you for writing into us. And we never hear back. Braving, you know, these choppy waters, burying your soul. Like it means a lot. It means the world.
Starting point is 01:09:51 And to anyone who's written in and we've given you advice, please update us. We would love to hear from you. You can email us an update or head over to the website. These dogs are about to fucking kill each other. We absolutely have to go.
Starting point is 01:09:59 It's literally National Geographic on the show. Nat Theo. Nat Rio. Nat Theo Nat Rio Nat Brio Okay they're about To knock over the lights And the camera Oh god
Starting point is 01:10:09 Thank you so much Love you Bye
