Starting point is 00:00:27 cargurus.ca. BBC Sounds. Music, radio, podcasts. I'm like, Les, Les, I think you've got treatment. She woke up, she went... She went... Why have you not told me? Why have you not woke me up and told me?
Starting point is 00:00:46 And then she apologised because I was like, why is that on me? That I've got to wake you up? But it was funny because she woke me up 20 minutes later thinking I had treatment, but really she knew I had treatment, but decided to wait in case I heard an alarm. Hello and welcome to the Toonie and Rousseau show with me, Vic Hope. I am here with two of football's most famous friends, Ella Toon and Alassia Rousseau. Now, as I always say, the girls have promised that nothing is off limits. So be prepared as always for everything here on the Toonie and Russo Show, welcome. Woo!
Starting point is 00:01:26 Hey, oh, now. No, you know what, I'm glad that you bumped the mic. I'm glad you did because Ella, you two have swapped seats. Yeah. The reason being, you kept bumping your mic. Oh, I did? Yeah, you did.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Oh yeah, so now you have to try it. And now you know. I thought this because they thought it was my best side. Here's our third episode back in our living room. Some subtle changes if you look around the room. Yeah. I don't think that Little Miss Gunner book was there before. Oh, that's cute. Is that new?
Starting point is 00:01:57 No, I saw that. Oh, was it? Did you? Oh, I didn't pay attention. You weren't paying attention. I did see that because I said, oh, that's good. I used to love Little Miss books what about the Polaroid
Starting point is 00:02:06 that's me oh we got a picture taken at the last episode and it's in Pride of Flame that's different yeah yeah it's a picture of you
Starting point is 00:02:14 and was that Hold Me Close to Tiny Dancer there yeah that was there that was definitely there we spoke about Elton we spoke for about
Starting point is 00:02:20 15 minutes about Elton well yeah the idea is obviously for me to get to know you better for the listeners to get to know you better find the listeners to get to know you better find out about your friendship the
Starting point is 00:02:26 things that make you tick and Ella you're playing in the FA Cup final yeah yeah I think I think it deserves a round of applause thanks guys we will talk a little
Starting point is 00:02:37 bit more about that later it deserved a round of applause before and we move on but do you enjoy the build-up to a big game like that yeah I mean I can't wait all I'm thinking about is playing in the FA Cup final again um it's one of the biggest competitions
Starting point is 00:02:53 you can play in as a footballer I think since winning the Euros as well you've got that taste of what winning feels like and holding that trophy at the end um it's so special so yeah hopefully I can get another one you just want to get your hands on the silverware and she always scores at Wembley well don't jinx me no
Starting point is 00:03:11 I'm manifesting yeah you're manifesting I like manifesting it's funny isn't it there's like a fine line between that that idea of jinxing and manifesting it
Starting point is 00:03:18 like you want to put it out into the world you want it to happen but then I'm manifesting it manifesting it for each other I do like to score
Starting point is 00:03:24 at Wembley apparently so hopefully I can I can do it again at the weekend um we have spoken before about what helps you be confident on the pitch Toonie you were saying um look good feel good play good I'm getting that on a t-shirt I agree. But I would love to know a little bit more about your routine before you're playing. Do you find it hard to sleep before a big game? Like what's going through your heads? I think we're really good sleepers. I'm talking on behalf of both. We sleep like babies, me and love.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Can sleep on, what's the saying? A camel's back. Is that the saying? I've never heard that saying. Maybe not. I think that's the saying. I like it. Why are you sleeping on a camel's back?
Starting point is 00:04:07 Why are you there? You're humpy. You're on that hump. Yeah, I think I sleep good all the time, to be fair. I was just trying to think about the night before the Euro final because that was probably one of our biggest ones. Do you remember that night? Because I do.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Yeah, we stayed in this really nice hotel. Really nice. Tottenham Hotspur Hotel. And everyone was asleep. And in the night, the curtains just kept opening and closing. Because it was like automatic. Oh, the motor ones. Yeah. Well, that's a problem.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Yeah, so a lot of people didn't have a good night's sleep that night, but I didn't even notice. No, I didn't either. I was still asleep. But do you remember before we went to bed, we were just sat on the balcony. Yeah, so a lot of people didn't have a good night's sleep that night, but I didn't even notice. No, I didn't either. I was still asleep. But do you remember before we went to bed, we were just sat on the balcony, and I remember saying to Toonie, we could actually win the Euros tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Do you remember that? We've got pictures of us, haven't we? Yeah, just sat on the balcony, just me and Toonie, because our rooms were next door to each other, and we had this little balcony, and then there was like a little fire pit down there, and we were just sat like dead dead straight on like this just having like the last supper yeah jesus and his friends behind the table yeah but going back to sleeping
Starting point is 00:05:10 i sleep like a baby yeah me too what are you like if you haven't had enough sleep oh i'm horrible really i'm i'm not a good morning person am i like people don't really chat to me in the morning because i'm just not i'm a lot better than i used to be my mom says i was awful when i was younger i actually didn't speak to me for ages until i actually came around but i've matured a bit now and if you have an early alarm is it a problem less is a bit of like you set an alarm and snooze whereas i need to set an alarm and get straight up as soon as it goes off i have to stand up or else then I'm not. If you start to snooze, it's game over. You're like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:48 It's bad. I'm really bad when I snooze my alarm. The amount of times I've not got up from the snooze, but also the amount of times I fall asleep really quickly, but I'll often go on my phone before bed, I don't know, flicking through TikTok or something, and I'll fall asleep with my phone in my hand and not have an alarm set in the morning.
Starting point is 00:06:06 How many times has that happened? It's so bad, yeah. And I'll be knocking on her door in the morning because we always knock on for each other. And I'm like, she's not setting an alarm. I know what she's done. She fell asleep. So I'm banging on the door.
Starting point is 00:06:17 And she did it once. Sometimes we're watching a film and we have a nap before a meeting or before whatever. I know what you're going to say. And she fell asleep and i must have fell asleep or no i was on my phone because i don't really nap and then i remember saying that she had treatment you always nap That's such a brave statement. I don't really nap. She's like, yeah, you do. We were having a nap then.
Starting point is 00:06:46 We were like, don't really nap. Anyway, Les told me that she had treatment. Say it was half five. And then it got to like 20 to six and she was still asleep. And I thought, oh, she must have set an alarm if she's got treatment. She hadn't set an alarm. So I'm like, Les, Les, I think you've got treatment. She woke up. She went.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Why have you not told me? So then I'm like, Les, Les, I think you've got treatment. She woke up, she went... She went, why have you not told me? Why have you not woke me up and told me? And then she apologised because I was like, why is that on me that I've got to wake you up? But it was funny because she woke me up 20 minutes later thinking I had treatment, but really she knew I had treatment but decided to wait in case i had an alarm it's a wait and see if the alarm kicks in at some point i don't like waking you up when you're
Starting point is 00:07:34 sleeping that's not my job yeah no that was completely my fault yeah you did you did apologize afterwards you said oh yeah maybe i should have set an alarm for my treatment. And the other day we were napping on camp. Because we nap a lot. We'd watched a film or something on Netflix. I always watch the film. I never fall asleep in the film. I said to you after, I wasn't.
Starting point is 00:08:03 You went, I didn't really see much of it you did really I get I don't like falling asleep in a film if you're putting a film on I'm gonna try and get to the end
Starting point is 00:08:12 try whatever it was that whatever Mary film wasn't it something Mary yeah something about Mary
Starting point is 00:08:19 no it was a new film on Netflix can't remember what it was called it wasn't I wouldn't recommend it but you wouldn't recommend it you were... You wouldn't recommend it? You were asleep? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:28 It must have bored you to sleep. Anyway, we'd obviously both fallen asleep. And it was like, we had a meeting at six and it was like 5.55. And she must have like, this sense must have woke her up because she shut up she went we've got a meeting do you remember yeah i think i was probably awake but i was waiting that is one of my like worst things to do like wake someone up no no be late yeah but
Starting point is 00:09:00 wake someone up i don't like doing that yeah like you look dead nice as like you're like you don't want me and it's embarrassing if look dead nice you're like you don't want me and it's embarrassing if I'm like less less and you can't hear me you're like
Starting point is 00:09:11 oh god I'm gonna start napping in my own room so you do nap no it's like napping is a weakness yeah there's loads of times right where I'm dead tired and someone's like are you tired i'm like
Starting point is 00:09:29 no yeah or someone's like are you asleep now i'm just resting my eyes like i just like admit that you admit you're sleeping i'm not admitting that i'm not it's natural the animals do it. Oh God. Okay, so once you've woken up, whether it's like straight away, bowl upright, or whether it's after a few snoozes, or whether you were napping,
Starting point is 00:09:53 match day, morning routines, what's it look like? Mine and Toonie's very different. Oh, so different, yeah. I like to do my,
Starting point is 00:10:01 like shower face care. Care for your face. I just get on my shower face care. Care for your face. I just get on my face like that. You do just wash your face with water. I don't even wash my face with water. Yeah, I'll get ready. We have things throughout the day, so we'll have breakfast and then a meeting
Starting point is 00:10:21 or a team walk or whatever. And then we often get like, if we're playing in the evening we'll get like three or four hours to just chill and not have anything and that's when we put a film on or like a show and something we always do that on game day don't we yeah at england um and then yeah just chill put my playlist on and i always knock on for less first because i always get ready in like five minutes whereas she's doing her hair about 100 times um so i'm just laughing about napping yeah um but yeah our routines are probably very different yeah what are you doing to your hair a hundred times
Starting point is 00:11:06 nothing I'm just trying to put it in a ponytail yeah but she does this thing where I don't know if everyone else does it she hangs off the end
Starting point is 00:11:13 of the bed oh yeah yeah I just don't do that but to really be able to gather it all to like go like that and then it's all
Starting point is 00:11:20 together I'm glad you know what I'm talking about I know there's a lot of hair to gather oh there's not lot of hair together. Oh, there's not much there.
Starting point is 00:11:27 There isn't much there. There isn't. It is growing now, though. Although I'm going to cut it short again, aren't you? But your hair's trained to be in a ponytail. My hair isn't. Everyone says that. How do you get your hair like that?
Starting point is 00:11:42 And it's because I have it like that all the time. But I've always had this, like, people used to call me speed bump, I always have that little thing there don't I? Yeah you do. You probably see it now. It's a little like bump that I always get in my hair. Drives me insane. Maybe if you lay over the bed maybe you should try.
Starting point is 00:11:56 I'm more of a flick forward. But that works too. Yeah. That gets it too high for my little hair. Yeah. And then what are you packing to take with you to the match? Everything. I take a big bag on game day. Not just one of the little kind.
Starting point is 00:12:12 I take a little bag. That's why we're very different. Less big bag, me little, just a little wash bag. Less is more. Less is more. Less is more. Yeah. Do you know that?
Starting point is 00:12:22 I'm trying to figure what it is. I knew you were. Yeah, less is more. Have you ever heard the saying, less is more. Yeah. Do you know that? I'm trying to figure what it is. I knew you were. Yeah, less is more. Have you ever heard the saying, less is more? Yeah, so it's better for me that I'm taking a little bag. Yeah. Yeah, you're an overpacker. I am.
Starting point is 00:12:34 I'll have... And she still comes to my little bag and takes something out of it. Yeah, but I put your sliders in it. Sometimes I do put my sliders in your big bag, yeah. I have, yeah, my my sliders my wash bag a few makeup bits shampoo conditioner perfume three brushes three one for like ponytail and one for like a wet brush you know when you're out the shower do you not have that little one yeah the little oh just like a yeah yeah control brush yeah Not that I need it because my hair doesn't even go in a ponytail.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Mine's just a wash bag with like hairspray that's the main thing brush shower gel shampoo conditioner
Starting point is 00:13:13 that's about it. I was going to say everyone always robs Toonies shower gel. It's so rude. Is it just because it's really nice? It bothers me so much.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Why are they bothering us? What are they called that I have? Phone bursts. Phone bursts. It costs about £5 then. People come and you know it bothers me so much. Why are they bothering us? What are they called that I have? Foam burst. Foam burst. It costs about five pound then. People come and you know what bothers me a lot? It's the same people who never bring theirs.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Go on, shame them. Oh no. Because I still say, yeah, cool. Take it. But like with foam burst, you've used foam burst. I don't know what you're talking about, no. It's like shaving foam, but as a body wash. You need to get some. I've never heard of it. shaving foam but as a body wash you need to get some i've never heard of save up and get them all you need is a little penny don't you
Starting point is 00:13:51 it covers everywhere some people say can i borrow some like yeah pile on there big massive pile and i'm like you don't need all that give me half of it back i hope they're listening right now because they'll know who they are. They know. They should know. They're taking you for granted. They are. They are. You've noticed that too.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Yeah. What is it like in the changing rooms? There's so many different people doing so many different stuff. Yeah. Like some people like Kira, for example, gets dressed straight away. Like she's always the first one dressed.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Whereas like Katie's Ellen, for example, she leaves it until like two minutes before she's got to be one dressed whereas like katie zellen for example she leaves it until like two minutes before she's got to be out to get dressed yeah i think we're like more in between you you funny about a bit more yeah i like to get treatment as well yeah people go out on the pitch before some people never do like everything everyone's doing something different aren't they and everyone's doing the hair yeah and some they? And everyone's doing their hair. Yeah, and some people listen to the music in the changing room, some people have headphones in, some people don't talk to anyone,
Starting point is 00:14:53 some people just sit and chat the whole time. It's a real mix. Other than yourselves, who else in that changing room, who else is the epitome of look good, feel good, play good right now? Chloe Kelly. Yeah. She always puts like a different pre-wrap in her hair. She likes to do that. Millie likes to do about six plaits.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Oh, yeah. Pulled her off. Too many plaits. I said, Mill, come on now. You've gone from two to four plaits. Yeah, Millie likes to do her plaits. Yeah. Millie always plaits Zell's hair in the changing room.
Starting point is 00:15:24 I think, yeah, not many are too... I wouldn't say too many are stressed by that. Stanway does her hair a lot. Yeah, Stanway's very, like, perfectionist with her hair. Yeah, she takes it out, puts it back in, takes it out about five times. Getting rid of any speed bumps. Yeah, I just leave it in.
Starting point is 00:15:40 I'm used to it now. Ever feel like car shopping is designed to make you second-guess yourself? Is this a good price? Am I making the right choice? With CarGurus, you don't have to wonder. They have hundreds of thousands of cars from top-rated dealers and advanced search tools, deal ratings and price history, so you know a great deal when you see one. That's cargurus.ca. Tell me about making your debut for Arsenal the very first time you set foot on the pitch
Starting point is 00:16:19 in that shirt. It was nice. I mean, it takes you a while to settle into a new team, I think, because you go from playing with people you know to then suddenly playing with people that you don't know their strengths yet and things like that. But no, it was great. I loved it. And yeah, I've been creating more memories as the season's gone on. like is it nerve-wracking putting yourself into this situation where there's going to be different friendship groups and and cliques and you've got to make you've literally got to make new friends yeah you feel like a kid at school yeah like and you walk in on like your first day and you just don't know who to talk to what to do but no everyone was really nice which obviously helped but you still feel like like you're making small talk kind of because you obviously want to
Starting point is 00:17:06 try and get to know people but they've obviously been at the club for a long time and things like that who are you are you drawn to chris you're not allowed any new friends i was gonna say i looked at you ella i was like can i say i don't want to i don't want to like get in the way i don't want any toes go to a new team but don't talk to anyone. Yeah, but keep your mouth shut. Yeah. Don't make any new friends or forget about me.
Starting point is 00:17:32 I'm obviously really good friends with a girl called Lotta who I grew up playing with and we went to college together. You're allowed. Yeah, because Toonie's also friends with her. I really get on with Vic Palova.
Starting point is 00:17:43 She's my age. Everyone's nice and you just get on with them all. I think it helps that Les is a social butterfly and can talk to anyone. I'm really not, though. I think I'm shy. I think you can talk to anyone. You can hold a good conversation with anyone you meet.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Yeah, but I do feel... Whereas if me and you were meeting new people, I'd let you talk. Yeah, but you're not shy. I'm shy. Yeah, but I think I'm shy at first. And then you know me you're like right shut up. And I think you're better at doing that small talk. I'm a bit like my dad, like don't do all that small talk stuff. You'd rather just not talk. I struggle with it yeah. She wants the big talk. Yeah. She wants to
Starting point is 00:18:20 be like best mates or nothing. Yeah, yeah basically. What's it like then when a new player joins you? Clearly Toonie doesn't. She just doesn't do it. I can feel horrified. No, I think when you're in a team for so long, I think we've always had that ability to, as soon as someone walks in to the dressing room who's new, they fit straight in straight away.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Even when you came, I think it felt like you were there forever. We actually were talking about small talk on the radio the other day because um jamie lang who i do the show with was saying that he's sick of people saying oh how are you because the answer is fine and it's boring yeah we were thinking of um of better ways of starting conversations with strangers if you're ever thrown into those situations maybe it's like a dinner party or something like that just to throw some ideas out there
Starting point is 00:19:06 in case these are helpful in future ever killed a man oh nice straight to the point favourite M road M road oh like M25
Starting point is 00:19:15 that's definitely not my favourite well there you go see you had something to say about it and M60 was horrible too is that Trafford Centre yeah
Starting point is 00:19:23 case in point I like that one because it gets Trafford Centre? Yeah. Case in point. I like that one because it gets Trafford Centre on it. Yeah, but you never get there because the traffic's so bad. What is my favourite M road? I like the M26 because that's the last little M road to my home. I don't even know when it is. I knew you were going to say that. I think that went very well and you're welcome to use it.
Starting point is 00:19:42 What is your favourite M road? I only very recently started driving again, so I'm not actually that familiar with any M roads. But I'll get back to you on that. So the conversation continues. Oh, it's exciting. What role does the captain play in bringing people together off the pitch as well as on the pitch?
Starting point is 00:20:02 Well, Katie's LM's quite good, to be fair, because she's so, like... She doesn't shut up. Yeah, she doesn't shut up, for one. And she's so organised, and she's a bit of a control freak. So, like, she will organise everything from top to bottom. It's very good planning.
Starting point is 00:20:17 Yeah, and she's very good at planning, and she loves planning. So, for us, we do loads of, like, different events, team events and stuff. So, not long ago, we went playing Nerf guns. Nerf guns and stuff. So not long ago we went playing Nerf guns. Nerf guns? But it weren't the Nerf bullets. It were like these like little water pellets.
Starting point is 00:20:31 They actually hurt. Like ball bearings? Like, no, that would have hurt. Like, I can't really explain them. Like little water pellets. Everyone loved it though. And it just brings you together doing something that you don't do often.
Starting point is 00:20:43 It's funny, isn't it? Organized fun, in principle, dead against it. In practice, absolutely bloody love it. It's always good. It's always good to do an activity. I do think there's no better team bonding than going to the pub or something, though. Oh, yeah, 100%. Or going a night out.
Starting point is 00:20:57 A night out as a team. That's when you all see the real people. Yeah. Yeah, but that is the best thing ever for team bonding i think i think that's the thing with like being in teams like everyone's so different yeah yeah for some people having a conversation might be so out of their comfort zone whereas shooting earth guns at my head they might love yeah um so i think they all love that probably they do i was like this in the corner it weren't for me do you have any like initiation rituals
Starting point is 00:21:26 songs we don't our captain doesn't like it yeah we don't even it annoys me although I remember
Starting point is 00:21:34 when I first joined they were like Kim the captain who's like the nicest person ever she was like don't worry like there's no
Starting point is 00:21:39 initiations and I was like brilliant because that's out of my comfort zone and then we got to Germany for pre-season training camp initiations and I was like brilliant because that's out of my comfort zone and then we got to
Starting point is 00:21:45 Germany for pre-season training camp and like Beth and Leah like look like they're up to something and we'd had like a lovely team dinner we're sat out by the pool and Leah like goes inside and Beth walks out with a mic on and she's like right this is it like team bonding and I'm thinking this is awkward and she came up she went less your first bearing in mind if I want to if I was gonna do something I would go all out and I'd actually plan it and like sing a song and know the words and whatever but I was completely put on the spot and I was just like I can't even remember what I said like I'm buzzing to be here. Like, I can't even remember. It was just very overwhelming. But it was just thrown on me.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Yeah. And then a couple others got up and sung. But if I have time to plan it, I'm all for an initiation song. Whereas we don't do them. Sprung on you. We don't do them at United and that really bothers me. Can you not start? I've tried for years and people just aren't having it.
Starting point is 00:22:43 And it's just never been a thing. Whereas I think it should be a thing. I did one at City when I was about 17 and the manager said, that's the best initiation song I've ever heard. Can you do it now for us? No, I've not got my singing voice on. Can you remember the gist of it?
Starting point is 00:22:56 Yeah, I sang the script, The Man Who Can't Be Moved. Oh, wow. Yeah. But I had a face on because they'd already made me do a dance. I can't dance. They'd already said, right, Tuna, you've made me do a dance I can't dance they'd already said right tuna you've got to do a dance now that was well worse than singing so then they got me up again on the coach and was like right you've got to do a song now and I was like no one has to do both did you have a backing track do you sing acapella I sang acapella yeah that actually could
Starting point is 00:23:22 be quite a moving moment I imagine yeah i brought tears to some girls on the subject of songs ella you said recently that you're very sad when arsenal fans sung oh i've got some hate for that yeah your and alessia's chant and replace her name with i was having a bit of banter on the podcast that I went on and all the Arsenal fans have ran away with it and they're loving it. Oh yeah, we made Toonie upset. So it weren't that deep.
Starting point is 00:23:54 I don't think anything could really make you that upset. No. It was just hard to hear for the first time, that's all. I get it. I would feel the same. When you join a new club, and even the club as it is, I get it I would feel the same when you when you join a new club and even like
Starting point is 00:24:07 the club as it as it is like talk to me about whatsapp groups because surely surely there are a few surely it's not just one
Starting point is 00:24:15 and you know what's funny when Les left United she wrote a nice message in and whatever and then she didn't leave for ages did she not when the seal was going on
Starting point is 00:24:22 and that actually not leaving why is she not leaving the group we had about five different group chats like when
Starting point is 00:24:29 I was at United with these lot because you obviously had the team one and then you had player staff just players
Starting point is 00:24:37 but then we had like me you Zell me you Millie me you Marth Zell
Starting point is 00:24:43 yeah there was loads. There was loads of group chats. And same now, like, you're in a big group chat, a player staff one, we've got a medical one, and then, like, individual chats about different stuff. So really, it's just a bit stressful, isn't it? It's too much. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:01 It's too much, all the WhatsApp. Who are you in the WhatsApp group? Are you, you know, the meme provider? Like, are you active? I'm so against them. No, it's not for you. It's not for me. It's not for me either. I have never sent a meme. I have never sent a meme. I just thought it's just not me.
Starting point is 00:25:24 I'm more like a liker. Like, I'd like, if they need to know numbers for things, like, I'm just liking it. I'm not really much of a chatter. Ours is a bit dead, to be fair. Is yours? Like, we don't really have loads of banter in it. No, ours is more, like, informational.
Starting point is 00:25:38 Is that a word? Yeah, ours is that. I would like to have a bit more banter, but sometimes, you know what I hate, is if I write something in and no one replies. Yeah, it's embarrassing. Why do you want to put your head above the parapet? I don't want to put myself on the line.
Starting point is 00:25:50 No, so I just don't bother. Yeah, no, same. I'm a muter, I'll be honest. A lot of my friends don't know that they're muters. That's bold. Yeah, I would never mute. Oh, I thought you were all going to be on site. No, that's not the way I was going to get that.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Because we actually need to know the information in the group chat else we could be late for work that's true yeah you were i did not expect that from you mary's a muter oh mary never replies mary is a muter we've been building a bit of a playlist here on the pod of songs and artists that were just mentioned um so far you've mentioned rick astley elton john cole play adele luke combs the spy skills smoother m just generally um and gladys knight so whoever could be next it's an eclectic mix and but talk to me about music in the dressing room presumably if you want to play music it's in your headphones it's not like a song playing for everyone to enjoy. Or is there? Or is there? Who's got the aux?
Starting point is 00:26:48 I did a little bit last week. Got kicked out. Yeah. How'd you get kicked out? I don't like it. It gives me a bit of anxiety. Like thinking that someone sat over there and they're thinking, what is this song
Starting point is 00:27:01 where I'm buzzing off it? It's hard to- You put yourself on the line, don't you? When you're like, okay, here's the song what is this song where I'm buzzing off it? It's hard to... You put yourself on the line, don't you? When you're like, okay, here's the song that I want to play you because I like it. You're giving a piece of yourself. It's vulnerable.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Les is a good DJ to fair. That's because I really like your songs. Yeah, I actually quite enjoy being the DJ because I just like to cater. I'm a people pleaser. Does everyone want to be the DJ? Is there a hierarchy of who does it or is it more people don't want to be the dj is there a hierarchy of who does it or is it more people don't want to be the dj more people don't really just can't be asked
Starting point is 00:27:29 yeah but at arsenal now lee is the dj and we have really similar music taste so that's nice yeah and when you're dj how do you get the people going i think you just gotta be consistent millie t took over the uh speaker last week and I had to go over and say, Mill, this isn't working. So she was like, what do you mean? I know it was harsh, but I was like, I'm just not feeling this right now. So I took over and I changed it all up.
Starting point is 00:27:58 I don't know if anyone else liked it, but I was having a good time. If you could have just one, I'm going to say either one song or one artist that would be your pre-match go-to, gets you going every time, gets you in the zone, gets you motivated,
Starting point is 00:28:11 who would it be? Bit cringy now and I'm not just saying it because you're here but I play Calvin Harris on game day now. He is good. He is good to be fair.
Starting point is 00:28:18 He's a good shout. Yeah. I've really got into that on a game day now so that's what I went and took Millie's phone for to put on. Oh, I'll let them know.
Starting point is 00:28:26 What's your favourite song? Let me have a think. I think there's some rousing ones. Yeah. I love Summer. Summer's good. Yeah. I like the Florence ones.
Starting point is 00:28:38 There was Spectrum, Say My Name. Oh, yeah. And also Sweet Nothing. Yeah, that's one. They get you going. Ready for the weekend. Ooh. I put on my shoes and I'm Nothing they're yeah that's a good one ready for the weekend ooh I put on my shoes
Starting point is 00:28:48 and I'm ready do you know it I do know it yeah I'm aware I've seen that show a lot of times yeah
Starting point is 00:28:56 I like that one that's a good one I'm trying to think I my playlists are so like all over the place I can't even think of one person but I do love Rihanna
Starting point is 00:29:06 yeah you like Drake I've actually not been listening to as much Drake anymore the country is really like that's all I play at the moment I am asking you these questions obviously for the podcast because it's what we talk about but also for some selfish reasons
Starting point is 00:29:22 I'm doing a bit of research because we've spoken about the fact that the fa cup final is happening i'm gonna be djing yeah and i'm just getting ideas like i what do i play what do i play it's gonna get you and your team in the mood and you know the fans you know the fans better than anyone when a song comes on i'm the one who's like oh what a tune you know what i mean yeah i don't think other people are even like listening to the music whereas i when i'm warming up i love when a song comes on and i can it's on yeah that makes me feel better though that i'll be listening they're not hearing it yeah i'll be listening i can i can try
Starting point is 00:30:00 and like sneak a couple of songs just for you and you hopefully you'll hear them in the dressing room yeah hopefully i'll be on in the dressing room. Yeah. Hopefully I'll be on the pitch warming up and I'll be singing to them. Yeah, I'm thinking along the lines of Freed From Desire, Darude, Sandstorm. Oh, you're going to get the fans going. That sort of vibe. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:15 I am bricking it about being in front of, what is it, 80? 95. Okay, thank you. 90,000. Yeah, don't forget the rest. Thanks. I know, I get scared in the changing room of 25.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Do you get nervous before going out onto the pitch? I don't really get nervous. I don't think, like, I don't know why, but I just think because I've done it that much now and I train every day to make sure that I'm ready for the weekend that, yeah, I'm just more excited, more than anything. I like that you slipped that song title in there. I'm ready for the weekend. I yeah, I'm just more excited more than anything. I like that you slipped that song title in there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:46 I'm ready for the weekend. Didn't even mean it. I would slip that into my set for you when you're on the pitch. If it wasn't a little weird for me to play it. Oh no. Oh, it's not. It's supportive.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Now I'm supposed to, yeah. You're supporting Toonie as well. Yeah. You're supporting what I like. Do I do it for you? Do it for me. Come on, do it for the trio. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:11 I will do it for the trio. Well, thank you so much for settling my nerves ahead of the gig at Wembley. Oh my God, you get to say hello Wembley. Do you say that? Do you, I mean, when you step out onto the pitch at Wembley? Do we shout hello Wembley
Starting point is 00:31:25 is that weird that's weird that's weird you're DJing so that's different I'm not going to stand in the middle of the pitch
Starting point is 00:31:31 hello Wembley hello Wembley I'm just saying I don't know if it's been done before you deck hold of it yeah and I will
Starting point is 00:31:40 and Ella good luck thank you I'm going to give another clap because she's playing at Wembley. We might call this episode actually napping is a weakness.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Yeah. But I don't know. I think it's a strength. I am so excited to see you play. I will be there. I'll be playing you ready for the weekend much to my own. Maybe if you play ready for the weekend
