When we talked back in the spring, you said you was at, I think, a max deadlift 345.
Has that thing went up or down since?
Last Tuesday, I squad, 405 for three.
Barrow them back?
Now, a couple weeks ago, I did 450, and Rusty Witt, my street coach, he was like 56 and had knee replacement.
He goes, coach, put another 25 inside.
I'm said, for who?
Now I'm not doing that.
And Witt's, Witt did 500.
He's 56 years old.
Light it.

Well, we got a lot of fun stuff to get to and a great interview.
Urban Meyer, marking from the second Rob Stone here with you.
This week, we head down to Gainesville, check in on Florida.
Things are going pretty well in Gainesville right now.
Their head coach, John Summer, will join us after that big win over all.
Ole Miss.
Big win.
Big.
Big.
Big.
Big.
Big.
Huge.
No, coach.
You like to say things twice, right?
Big big.
Yeah, that was big big.
You're not fast.
You're fast, fast.
That was a big, big win.
I mean, it warrants my heart to see what's going on down there right now.
That place is freaking rocking and rolling.
Hey, you only got about another week to get on the Florida bandwagon because it is, it is charge.
It is charging.
A lot of close to him right now.
Coach has been on it.
I think I might be.
on it as well. We're going to give you our top
five contending teams as we said about
a third of the way through the regular season.
I can't believe I just said that. About a third of the way
done. We're going to add fuel
to the Oregon USC rivalry.
Oh my goodness. The actions
and the words that came out of that one. And we're going to
look ahead to three
massive ranked matchups coming your way
this week. As always, we encourage
you to rate, subscribe, share,
send us your questions. We're going to be doing
a mailbag segment in the
coming week. So ask us anything you
want to hear from the three of us. We can be found on social media. By the way, it is a great
social media hang, particularly throughout the course of Saturday at 3X option show, new episodes.
As always, coming your way on YouTube and wherever it is you find your podcast. All right,
what we love most about college football is we don't know what the heck is going to happen
on any given Saturday. And I feel like we kind of say this every week, Mark, and every week
the week delivers.
Like Saturday's like, hold on a second.
I got a rewrite and you're going to love how this one ends up.
So this was the first week where we had, I guess, a slate of games.
We had six ranked games, seven ranked, six ranked games.
And we're going to be like, all right, now we're really going to know who you are, right?
Are you a contender or are you a pretender?
So I think that was really helpful.
Coach, though, let's start with the Gators.
52 to 28.
That is a, you know what, weapon.
52 to 28 over a top five team in Old Miss.
Let's go way back.
Let's go back, because this is year one for John Summerall.
How involved were you in the hiring process to get Summerall to Gainesville?
Yeah, it was quite, you know, like we all kept it quiet for a while,
but Scott Strickland, the AD, and I become friends, and he came to see me.
And we sat and talked for a long time.
And then he asked if I would get involved.
And I said, certainly I'd get involved.
And I did.
And, you know, this was in Lane Kippen was the frontrunner.
They had probably six or seven names that we were all looking at.
And I did as much homework.
Some of them I knew.
Some of them I did not.
John Summerall's guy did not know Mark at all.
Then you start doing your homework.
He played linebacker in Kentucky.
He worked his way up from Troy State to Tulane.
He did the two lane and got him in the playoff.
But more importantly, I went and started watching interviews
of John Summerall, I watched some film, and then I started making some phone calls. And what I found out,
it's passion, energy, and toughness. And we're going to talk to them today. But I'll tell you what,
as a coach, Rob, when I got to play a guy that tried to outsmart you, it was really cool. We usually beat
the shit on that team. When you faced a team that was full of passion, energy, and toughness,
Those are the ones that you got your nose bloody.
And sometimes you lost, sometimes you won, but at least you knew what it was.
So I'm so excited because when you think of John Sumerall and the Florida Gators and the Swam,
you better think of passion, energy, and toughness.
And that's what's going on down there.
You know what?
I'm going to say it again, so everyone hears this.
In college football, passion, energy, and toughness wins.
It actually beats talent at times.
And it certainly beats the people that tried out smart.
No matter the sport, coach, they always like to say that the team takes the identity of the coach, right?
And Mark, was that the same case with Nick Sabin?
Did you guys have Sabin's identity?
1,000% when your coach is preaching something to you and telling it to you and there's non-negotiables about how we're going to play, how we're going to practice, how we're going to, you know, represent ourselves, you take on that mentality.
Because if you don't, you're not going to play.
you're going to kind of weed yourself out.
And so when you have a coach who's preaching physicality,
preaching toughness,
preaching, doing things the right way,
knowing where you're supposed to be,
how you're supposed to do it.
And those are non-negotiables, how you're supposed to play.
And if you don't live up to those expectations
in practice and in the game,
you're not going to be a part of that culture.
You're not going to be a part of that team.
And that's what you're seeing with Coach Will,
you know, Someraw in Florida.
They're physical.
They're tough.
They're playing with high energy.
And when you have a coach like SummerR,
when you have a coach like Kirby,
the team takes on the identity.
When you have a coach, a coach Meyer team, a coach Sabin team, those teams, you knew you were in for a dog fight every single week.
You have a team that's kind of trying to outsmart you or Riky-Dink you, like, you're going to kill that team.
But when you have a team that is tough, physical, going to hit you on your mouth for 60 minutes, that's how you know you got a real coach.
We're going to talk to head coach John Somerall in a moment, up 13 spots, up 13 spots to number eight.
I'm up a little harder than that.
Yeah, you're probably not alone.
you're probably not alone.
Mark, what was your big takeaway from last week,
six ranked games, you know, a player or a program
or a storyline that jumped out to you?
I think that the big dogs are starting to kind of separate themselves.
You see Texas, the Arch isn't, you know,
playing his best football, and they're finding a way to win.
Like, they just went in Tennessee,
which is not an easy place to pay.
You could say whatever you want about Tennessee,
Neeland Stadium is a tough place to play,
and they just show them that they can win a physical,
tight game where their offense isn't playing to the best of their ability because
Arch hasn't been,
arch has been struggling a little bit.
Then you have Georgia.
They had another SEC matchup,
just bullied the breaks out of Oklahoma.
You have Ohio State responding how you would expect them to respond.
Jeremiah Smith responded.
Yep.
So I just think like, you know, Oregon going to be USC, like, you know,
in a big matchup with no margin for error for them.
So, yeah, I just think like right now, like the,
the contenders are separating themselves from the pretenders.
And that's kind of what I took away from last week.
So wait, did you put Oregon in your contender pile real quickly after that showing?
I told you.
They were my preseason team to win the whole thing.
And like, I just, I just don't know with this team.
You know they have the talent.
You know they have it.
And you know they got the passion.
They got that passion.
They got that Dan landing energy.
They have that coach.
You know what I mean?
So I'm just not overlooking them.
You know what I mean?
I was not overlooking them right now.
I find myself, much like Florida right now, Mark,
thinking more and more about Oregon
and what they did on the road.
And we're going to talk about it and what triggered it.
But I'm now back to believing in the ducks.
How about that?
Everything that went on in the Coliseum Saturday
has made me a believer in the ducks right now.
I'm telling you, Stone, I have this toxic relationship with them.
Like, I don't like them.
You know, they stand, like, we don't have a good date.
Then, you know, we somehow get back in contact
and we have a good date.
I have this toxic relationship with Oregon.
I don't know how to handle them right now.
All right. You haven't deleted their numbers, what you're saying.
I haven't. No, we still communicate.
We're still in touch.
It's just a bumpy ride.
So this takes us to our next conversation.
Let's talk about, coach, teams that can win it all right now, like your top five,
Mark's top five, teams that have legit chance to win the national title.
I would say that the pool of teams right now is close to 10 that can actually win it.
Does that feel?
That feels right.
Okay.
Which is actually a pretty big pool.
To me, it feels right.
Yeah, I agree.
Because we could go five right now.
So let's go five right now, like our best five right now to win the national title about, you know, wherever we stand at this juncture of the season.
So, coach, you get first dibs.
You're Urban Meyer top five right now.
Yeah, I'm going to, I'm such a kick right now about getting rid of these awful games.
And so I'm going to, my top five is what have you done?
it's not what you're going to do.
So it might be a little different.
I do believe, I'm going to give you an example.
Indiana, Miami, Notre Dame, I think they're really, really good teams.
But I don't know.
You know, I saw, the only reason Notre Dame is a little different,
and maybe Miami a little different is because it looks like, let me get to that minute.
First, number one is Texas.
Best win in the other season right now.
You know, Texas beat Ohio State right at the end.
Number two, Georgia.
You can say Georgia hasn't played in any of the season.
but they played Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Arkansas.
And you can't, maybe they're not that great,
but still Oklahoma, there's very good players, Mark, on that team.
They might be playing like shit, but they're a really good team.
I mean, really good players.
So I got Texas, Georgia, I got Ohio State,
because I do not count that as a terrible loss going into Austin, Texas,
and losing by one point in 25 seconds.
That loss made the best thing that happens to them.
Yeah, and I got Notre Dame in Florida,
and I'm going to switch Florida to number four.
Oh, wow.
Again, do I think they're the number four most talented team?
No, but they beat Ole Miss and they beat Auburn on the road.
So I will not count like Indiana.
You know, I don't think those first three games count.
I don't think this should, you know, at some point,
I can't remember who they play, but if it's a max school that counts,
if it's a lower, lower, lower level, that doesn't count on the record.
All right.
I don't count it.
So Urban goes Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida.
Florida, Notre Dame, three from the SEC.
Mark, you're up.
And I have Miami and Indiana.
Also receiving votes.
Receiving votes.
Also receiving votes.
Also receiving consideration.
We're going to go to seven.
I'm going to say this.
Play someone.
And you know what?
I'm going to say this about Miami.
Miami did play Wake Forest on the road and Wake Forest just beat Louisville.
Yeah.
Do I think Miami will be there in the end?
I do.
But they don't play anyone until Notre Day.
I mean, they play people.
But Tali, quite a game is not till Notre Dame.
All right. There's your top five. Mark, how about yours right now?
I'm going to go to same first three with coach.
I don't really have a debate. I'm going to Texas first.
You have the best win of the season.
You're going to Neeland Stadium.
You find a win if I find a way to win this weekend.
Arch is not playing to his potential for 60 minutes.
So you have a team that is explosive, a team that can win a tight game,
even when their quarterback isn't playing to their best ability.
So Texas number one, Georgia, two, just flying on the radar,
beating the brakes off of everybody they play.
Yeah, you do have to play somebody, but you play two people in the SEC,
and you're just beating the brakes off every single person you play.
People are getting bored with Georgia's greatness.
Don't get bored with it.
Appreciate it.
Ohio State, number three, I'm not scared off that loss to Texas.
They dominated Texas for three quarters.
It took an archmanning elite level of performance to get that comeback win.
So I got Texas.
I mean, I'm in Ohio State third.
Then I'm going to go Miami fourth.
I just feel like they are just one of those teams.
Like last season, like they lost three games.
I think they lost two or three games last year, but they just looked apart right now.
They have Malachi Tonia, Daria Mensa.
They have big explosive skills that can, you know, make a difference in the trenches.
So they don't play anybody, but who they do play, they find a way to win.
And I feel like they have a big offensive line.
They have explosive players on a defensive line.
They have Malachi Tony, Dary and Mensa.
I think Miami will be there.
And now it just becomes about proving it against the better part of their schedule,
which we'll see.
And then Notre Dame.
I'll go five Notre Dame.
You know, I'm a big Marcus Freeman guy.
They just destroyed Purdue.
And what I like about them is their ability to, you know, play a playoff style of football,
run it, defend it, control the game, and not having to win shootouts every week.
So I'm going to go five Notre Dame.
And then you can't keep Indiana out.
And I'm telling you about damn Alabama, man.
Really?
You keep playing, I keep telling you.
I'm watching this team.
I'm watching this quarterback.
I'm watching these playmakers.
I'm like, they,
have a shot, they just got to keep winning. They got a tough, they got a tough schedule coming
ahead of them. You have Mississippi State coming up, which is going to be a tough matchup on the
road. Then you got Georgia coming up. So we'll see about them how true they really are coming
up here in the next two to three weeks. But I'm not, I'm not Alabama, LSU, Florida, Oregon,
all those teams. We talked about five have to be picked, but all those teams I feel like are
right, right in this thing as well. Tell me, Mark, tell me, Mark, how is Alabama look on the
off. Did they look like Alabama?
They look good, man.
Last week, they looked good.
I'm not saying good.
I coached against Alabama.
Do they look like that?
We still, coach, I still feel like in the trenches, we got to improve.
I still feel like the offensive line is going to take us as far as we could go.
They are past protecting, but I feel when you need a yard, can we get the yard when
everybody knows is coming?
So I still feel like our offensive line needs to get better.
We do look good.
But when you play Georgia, when you play Georgia, when you're, you know, you're going,
When you play Florida, when you play these teams that are tough and physical,
you're going to have to add the trenches.
And I still feel like we need to continue to improve on that.
I want to go back to Ohio State real quick.
The three of us were there.
We saw Jeremiah Smith put on a Heisman-worthy performance at the expense of Illinois.
Listen, you don't win Heismans in September,
but what he did Saturday, Mark, I think, will be remembered come November
when a lot of those ballots come out.
Listen, Jeremiah Smith is him.
He is the best player in college football, and it's not a debate.
And when you talk about Heismans right now, he's number one on my high even ballot.
He, the impact he makes on a game, not only with what he does as far as production,
but he's quitting other matches for other people too.
So now you need other people to get off.
Now the running game can get off.
Now the other two, three receiver can get off because this man single-handly is causing teams a headache.
Hey, coach, what did you say?
after the first two series, you're like, hey, what's you going to say to the DBs?
Yeah, I don't have nothing for you.
I have nothing for you.
By the way, good luck.
Do the best you can, stay hydrated.
Let's try.
Keep him in front of you.
I play cover three.
Keep in front of you.
I have nothing for you other than that.
By the way, the Illinois defensive coordinator resigned after that game.
He did?
Yeah, he and Bilema, they decided like this isn't totally working out for everybody.
So Jeremiah, Jeremiah.
Tell me, that's not a high.
Orst a defensive coordinator to walk away.
Well, I think the quarterback's struggling right now.
You have Arch.
Correct, Coach.
Ments is not struggling, but I agree with you.
Right.
Right now, if they're handing out the hardware,
you're out of your mind if you don't hand that,
the Jeremiah Smith.
He's the He's the winner, unless someone takes it, in my opinion.
I don't think it's well.
Watch out for K-Tay down in Starkville.
There's problems.
Hey, you caught it week onus, owner.
I know I did.
You caught it in a week-wist, owner?
You called it eight-was.
And you guys tried to call me out on my call out.
I did.
It was a dozen calls.
We're going to have a chat in a month.
I said this is a game, though.
They damn show winning some games.
I hear.
I hear a chat in a month when they play four more SEC team.
I hear it.
Yeah.
And that chat may be like, well, looks like somebody's going to New York City.
All right.
Here's my top five.
I agree with Mark just in a different order.
I got Georgia at number one, 41.5 points per game differential, right?
So they are taking care of the teams.
However, four ranked departments.
in their next five games, three of them away.
I'm becoming a Georgia believer.
And I like how they're doing it quietly.
I'm trying to make that Bama Georgia game.
Right.
Oh, boy.
At number two, I'm going to go Miami up a couple spots this week.
They got one first place vote.
I like what they're doing.
The win at Wake Forest earlier in this year, to your point,
coach gets more credit because of what Wake Forest did at Louisville over the weekend.
We're going to know a little bit more about Miami this weekend.
and they are at Clemson Saturday,
which is just so sad to say, right?
Like Miami at Clemson, our eyes should be bright.
Our things should be pumped up.
We're like, wow, how much time are we going to talk about
Miami at Clemson on Big Noon Kickoff Saturday?
How much time we're going to talk about it?
Nathan.
Probably not much.
Probably not much.
As a sad state, I don't love that.
I don't love that.
But here's what I will say.
Clemson, you got yourself an opportunity to get yourself back on the map.
right you take care of Miami now we can maybe start talking about the tigers again right now though
Miami number two Texas the number one ranked team in the nation 62 first place voice this week
I got them down to number three they got a bye week and you know what they need to do coach in the bye
week they need to grow up Texas needs to grow up that is top the bottom archmanning with that
unfortunate comment a couple weeks ago Colin Simmons marking his spot at neel and
stadium, right? It's funny and the visuals there, but grow the F up, right? And that's,
that's on you too, Sark. Like, get your business in order because your guys are kind of-
Reflection of your coach. There we go. Your guys are kind of running around right now,
and you are not displaying yourself as a number one ranked team in the nation. You have the
ability, you have the talent, and you're built for this. They need to do some real work. And you know
what? I wouldn't have brought it up if Simmons hadn't done what he did on the field, right? Which,
to your point was the wrong thing to do, disgraceful. Let's see how Sark and company
handle that internally. I got the Buckeyes at number four. Coach, we were talking about this
pregame. There were a lot of boxes that needed to be checked for the Buckeyes. Take me through
those boxes and what they checked and what still lingers out there. Yeah, Red Zone offense has been
really bad in the three losses they had. They really did. In my mind, they didn't answer that.
They were playing Illinois. Illinois defense was not good. And they just flipped the ball of
Jeremiah Smith. So I'd say that's still too big determined. Second thing is rush defense. No.
They did not. Remember, Texas had 70 yards in the final quarter and Illinois just rushed for 200 on
them. So no, that box has not been checked. And then pass rush. I think so, Mark. I mean, we saw,
we saw some marmaduke coming off the edge and some good looking cats now when they stood up there.
So they did answer that box a little bit, but they still have more work to do. Which is what you would
expect at this time of the season. But they came into that game with just four sacks. I believe they
got three. So you're right. That improved. They were better statistically in the red zone. But
yeah, that defense doesn't have that, and probably nor should it with all the losses that
they've had. But they don't have that vibe where you're like, oh, Lord, how are you going to deal
with that guy? Right. There's not a lot of dudes on that line coach where you're like, that guy is a
problem. There might be one, one and a half for now, but that can change. Number five,
I've got Notre Dame.
They've got North Carolina this week.
The victory over Wisconsin to open up the season gained a little steam this week because of what Wisconsin did at Penn State.
Getting a huge, Whitford.
Boy, Luke Fickle needed that one, coach.
Like, that's a win where I think he can kind of, I'm not saying he can completely exhale,
but at least he can enjoy a Saturday night, right, and a Sunday session, right?
Like, okay, things are all right.
We're going to know a lot more about Notre Dame.
Again, later in October at BYU, which is suddenly becoming a massive, massive game.
That's a top 10 game, Navy, and then, of course, the Miami test on November 7th.
So there's our top five.
For the most part, we all kind of agree.
Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame in the mix.
Coach has got Florida.
Where you got Florida?
Receiving votes.
Receiving votes.
I, too, find myself buying Florida.
right now what they did.
But talk to me after this Saturday, right?
Like, are they going to have that letdown, that old Miss had?
Right?
They've got a top 25 game, even though Missouri, I don't know how they're still ranked in the top
25, but they got a test.
John Summerall is not going to let them sleepwalk into that game.
We can tell you about that.
I love that back too, Mark.
Mark, Jaden Ball.
Oh, my goodness.
Bro, he's a dog.
Ball needs to be in the Heisman conversation right now.
Coach, you check me.
You checked me.
And you said, how did you not have this guy in Club Hyde?
He's in R.
What I think of our beast?
Yeah, our beast.
And I said, well, damn, coach, how didn't I have him in Club Heisman?
Because he definitely had a chance to move up last week with his before us.
And he did.
How did you miss him?
Of all people.
We were saying who had a chance to move up.
It wasn't like who's in the club.
You know what I mean?
It had the topic was who has the chance to move up.
And he did have a chance to move up.
And he did.
A ball.
Coach, you checked me.
You was right.
11 rushing touchdowns.
this season.
He had three on Saturday?
Yeah, three times this season,
he's had three rushing touchdowns.
So he's had multiple rushing touchdowns
every game this season.
He has gone over 135 rushing yards
in every game this campaign.
He's sitting at 600 rushing yards.
He's averaging 7.2 a carry.
Let me add one thing about this kid too.
And Mark was one of them,
and I had a few of them.
Zeke was one of them.
When the competition becomes the best, that's when he becomes his best.
He's had six touchdowns at Auburn and against Ole Miss.
Settle down.
Settle down, puppy dog.
We'll get to the dog of the week in a second.
There's two names I do want to hit real quick, guys.
Massive talking points.
The USC Oregon game, Desmond Stevens, with that ugly hit that knocked Dante Moore out of the game.
he has been suspended one game for that hit for his actions after the hit on the field.
Does that feel right to you, coach, as a head coach?
It does.
I don't know a lot of that, what kind of kid he is around the program too.
If he was a pain and he asked around the program, no, I would have suspended him more.
If he just did some stupid and it was a quick reaction.
So I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that's saying he's not a bad,
guy and it was stupid. Yeah, I think that's fine. If he's a bad guy and this has been repeated,
which I have not heard that at all. It was, thank God, did you see the, Mark, did you see
Dante Moore is going to be okay? Yeah. Cat's scan, the CTT came back pretty good. So, I mean,
I saw that. And when you saw his arms went up. Yeah, that's the telltale sign of a concussion,
right? As soon as things lock up and freeze. So there's that. And then Mark, the game you were at
Dylan Stewart, the really highly regarded pass rusher from South Carolina, took a swing at an Alabama player, got into some discussions with coaches as well.
I'm using that term probably pretty loosely.
And he has been indefinitely suspended by South Carolina and Coach Beamer.
Yeah, man.
We talk about, you know, athletes, you know, doing the right thing, setting the right example.
And it's just certain things that are unacceptable, right?
Like you don't want to pull out your Johnson and start pissing them on somebody.
Like you don't want to fight with somebody and start getting into it with coaches.
Like you want to play the game the right way and with integrity.
And, you know, you have especially at this juncture where college football is, you're getting paid like a –
you're getting paid to do a service.
You're getting paid to act the right way.
You're getting paid to be a role model.
And so, man, I just – I think this is a message for all young players out there, man.
Make sure you're doing things the right way.
Make sure you're treating people the right way.
Make sure you're representing the name on the back of your jersey with –
with the highest integrity and the highest standards.
Let's not forget that.
I think it's a message to the Gamecocks as well.
As Coach Beamer, listen, that seat is getting a little warm as well.
But that's a statement like, I haven't lost this team yet, guys.
I'm not going to let the inmates run the asylum, right?
I'm still the boss.
I'm still the guy making these tough, tough calls.
Because, coach, when it's struggle bus time and your top player,
you have to say, get on over there.
We'll check in with you a bit later.
That takes real guts.
That's a tough, tough.
call in the coaching industry.
Yeah.
And you don't know how it's going to impact your team.
Again, I don't know the whole situation,
but I do remember Todd Big Shea,
and he put a post out there saying this kid
is a legitimate top four or five pick
in the NFL draft.
And he better get it right, or that's going to cost him
$15 million, Mark?
Because you go from number three to number 28
or something like that.
It's big money.
Yeah, you're talking about big numbers.
Yeah, $15, $20 million at least.
Let's hope he doesn't take this.
scolding and just take his ball and walk home, right, and just say, I'm good, I'm done,
I'm going to go train for the draft right now.
He better, I'm going to keep my body healthy.
Yeah, you have to have better advice because people, these NFL teams, they do a deep dive.
They do a deep dive and they get lost and they dig, they do character.
That'll be the first stop on the deep dive.
That right there, if that happens.
Light it.
College football rivalries, they don't have an offseason.
Nobody works harder at keeping beef fresh than college football.
football fans? Well, except our friends at Wendy's. At Wendy's, they use fresh, never frozen
beef for hot and juicy burgers. So when it comes to keeping beef fresh, they know a thing or two.
Which is why they have a lot of respect for college football fans. Keeping the same beef
fresh for decades isn't easy. I should know. Most people move on, college football fans turn it
into tradition. And while there's nothing they can do about the beef between you and your
rivals, they can make sure the beef on your game day menu is fresh.
So this season, whether you're tailgating before kickoff or spending four quarters reminding rival fans, why they're wrong.
Just remember, your team's beef is never frozen and neither is theirs.
Wendy's bring the beef, fresh beef available in the contiguous U.S., Alaska, and Canada.
So we want to take a quick moment here to recognize our boy, Duce, Duce, Mark Engingham the second, jumped on that PJ from Columbus, found his way down to Tuscaloosa.
got a little warmed up on the jet for those activities.
And then, and then, and then the introduction, man,
tell me what they told you was going to happen.
And were you totally expecting the entrance
and everything else that went around your in-stadium honoring
of going into the college football Hall of Fame?
So I got there, you know, I'm doing the pregame stuff.
What's the pre-game?
What's the pre-game stuff?
I don't even know what that means.
I'm just on the sideline.
I'm talking to the players.
I'm talking to fans.
There's recruits down there.
I'm taking pictures.
I'm just doing all of the pregame stuff.
And I watch everybody run out.
And then after that, I go up to Coach Saban Suite.
And then there with Ms. Terry.
I mean, there were a whole bunch of great people watching the game.
Alabama's balling.
It's awesome, right?
And then, yeah.
So third quarter comes.
And, yeah, they take me down.
And they're like, okay, Mark, it's the time.
It's the time.
And so I'm like, so who am I watching?
Who am I watching?
And she's like, when I say, come on, you come on.
And so, yeah, they said, Mark's your turn.
Come on.
And so I just walked down.
What song was playing when you were in the tunnel?
Stone.
I'm in the tunnel solo.
They got Thunderstruck playing.
And I'm down the tunnel solo, coach.
I'm here at Thunderstruck.
I see the Heisman.
I strike the pose.
I hear everyone going crazy.
I'm going down the tunnel.
I see Coach Sabin.
I get out the tunnel, everybody go crazy.
I get Coach Sve with some love.
I get Greg Burns some love.
I give our president some love.
The NFL people are there.
They give me my plaque.
I hold my plaque.
And over the announce, he just says,
you are joining an elite group
of the 5.78 million people
who have played and coached the game.
Just over 1,300 individuals
in the history of our sport
have earned interest into the college football hall of fame.
In other words, less than 1% of players,
coaches all time have been worthy of this distinction.
And now you are.
one of them with my man coach.
I am one of them.
And they showed me love.
The crowd went crazy.
Then they gave me the mic.
They gave me the mic.
And I said, Belma,
I love you.
I appreciate you.
Thank you for all the love,
all the support.
And now, for everyone,
if they ain't been to Tuscaloosa,
let's show them how we do it.
And I said,
roll.
Roll!
Let's go.
And everyone went crazy.
Man,
just want to say thank you, man, to everyone in Tuscaloosa, man, because they did it right.
They showed me love.
They showed me.
I felt appreciated.
When you talk about giving somebody they flowers, why they're here and alive, I appreciate
Tuscaloosa for giving me my flowers and I love Tuscaloosa forever.
Coach Sabeman, Ms. Terry Saban, Greg Byrne, Kailen DeBore for accepting me.
Lisa, with the A-Club, I appreciate Tuscalo for accepting me, bringing me back and
giving me my flowers because, man, I felt amazing.
It was an amazing opportunity.
How was downtown Tuscaloosa?
Just curious.
Downtown Teetown was going down.
And you noticed, I went to Chuck Fist after the game, had a great meal.
We went to the industry.
We was in there hanging.
Man, come on, man.
Tuscaloosa is my spot, bro.
I need to go get a crib back there.
We got to get a road trip there.
I don't know how it hasn't happened yet.
We got to get a road trip going there.
Man, hey, coach, I know you didn't got flowers at Ohio State.
I know you didn't got flowers at Florida.
Man, it feels good, dog.
when you go somewhere, man,
and they just show you love
and they appreciate you, man.
I'm taking pictures with everybody.
I'm on a sweet level.
People are coming out.
They want pictures.
I'm signing autographs with Ingram jerseys.
Man, I felt good.
I felt good.
When you talk about giving somebody,
they flowers when they alive?
I appreciate that, man.
I'll receive my flowers
and I'm going to keep accepting it.
I feel good for you.
I feel very good for you.
And I'll love you like a brother, Mark.
I can't wait for those five children.
to see you get it like to go when they, amongst the best of the best in Vegas.
Yeah.
That's going to change your life, man.
I saw my grandkids there and I'm like, are you kidding me?
Yes, sir.
To celebrate that.
As much as I'm going to love being with you to see your wife,
to put up with all she's put up with and those five kiddos to see,
to see their dad going in, you're immortal.
Yes, sir.
I can't wait.
And as much as I love you, I'm going to stare at those children.
Yeah.
That's the one thing that I was missing was I didn't have them with me in Tuscalo.
So I wish they could have saw that and experienced that.
But they will in Vegas.
They will in Atlanta.
They will be able to be with me in New Orleans for the Saints Hall of Fame too.
So, man, just a great year of special moments, man.
Thank you.
God is good, baby.
God is good.
My guess is they might have broken curfew Saturday night.
Yeah, they can.
They would have been able.
With dad.
With dad.
For sure, man.
But I appreciate y'all, man.
I love Bama, man.
damn time.
Sound off is presented by Las Vegas.
There's no better place for college.
Football, visit Las Vegas.com for more.
So Oregon took care of USC on the field coach, and then Dan Lannning was given the mic
after.
And boy, coach Lannning had some things to say about the hit on Dante Moore and the
crowd in Southern California in general.
Three wins against these guys.
I guess if you're interested in winning,
football games.
You're from this area.
You should go to Oregon.
If you want to go to a Chris Brown concert,
you should go here.
Mike drop.
He's out.
This is how I'm ending this conference.
So number one, he was obviously very upset about the hit that his quarterback took, right?
His quarterback at that point was still in the hospital.
And then there's been so much talk coach about the recruiting,
this class for USC, this great talent.
That was a, he took a real shot at USC.
I know he was emotional and angry.
That's the type of guy he is, and that's one of the many reasons we love him.
But that was a multi-layered comment for him to walk out on.
It was, and we, you know, first of all, the way he handled, if you watch the film,
the way Dan Laining himself handled that hit, he ran on the field because it could have been,
it should have been a war.
I mean, honestly, you know, someone does that to your quarterback.
You don't want to say this, but you have every right to go protect that quarterback.
And that was, it was headed that direction.
If you watch Dan Lannning get out there and stop it,
I don't know if you saw that, Robert Mark,
but Dan Lany stopped the fight himself.
He was on the fight pushing guys away,
the Oregon guys as their quarterback laid in a prone,
you know, in a tough position down there.
Saying that shot still here, this is interesting.
So in recruiting, I also had the injured animal theory.
You ready for it?
Yeah.
Okay, the injured animal is this.
if Texas, which Texas, when I was at Ohio State was really struggling,
I put four coaches in Texas,
and we got the three top players one year.
The three top players in Texas went to Ohio State.
Normally speaking, that's not going to happen.
When Georgia was going through their stuff,
this is pre-Kirby, I put four coaches in Georgia,
and we got some of the best players.
Then when North Carolina, there's some good players in North Carolina,
when they were really struggling.
So I was always on my board.
I'd call it the injured animal.
Right now, there might be an injured animal in Los Angeles boys.
And that's USC.
They're limping.
They're limping.
No, they're injured.
You think it's flat out injured.
They've been limping for a while.
But they got their stride back.
They got their gate back with this recruiting class.
Stud freshman playing a gazillion snaps.
But as we were talking about on Big Noon, like, and I think Matt Linerd said this guy is like,
if not now, when for Lincoln Riley, all right?
If not that Saturday with Oregon coming in and we're home and we're unbeaten and we've got all these studs.
If not now, then when?
And there's a lot of people in Southern Cal asking that question right now.
They wounded.
They're wounded.
They're tired of it.
They're tired of it.
They're tired of it.
And like you talk about are they one of the biggest brands in college football?
Yes, they are.
That brand, you notice that brand and you know what that signifies, what that represents,
the most highest men, the national titles.
but right now they are not one of the top destinations
because of the
not being able to get over the hump
and win a Big Ten title and go to the playoff.
That is essentially what makes you one of the desired programs
and the desired destination of college football
and they haven't been able to...
Clay Hilton takes a lot of shots.
His record is essentially the same as Lincoln Riley right now
like through their tenure.
It's almost identical,
the fact that Clay Hilton won stuff, right?
He had two 10-win seasons.
Lincoln Riley just won.
Clay Hilton won a conference title.
Lincoln Riley has not won a conference title.
Yeah, he got a Heisman.
Wow.
It's staggering.
And that's why that reported 10-year,
$110 million deal in 22,
that's why a lot of people are like,
is this the guy?
And Lincoln knows it.
And donors know it as well.
And I've heard conversations with people like, hey, we're kind of holding off some of our money right now to see how this goes.
Or they're holding back some of this money for a certain thing that has to be paid when a coach goes away.
It's really fascinating.
And I thought Southern Cal was better.
I thought they were going to get the win.
It'll be fascinating to see what the conversation is around Southern Cal right now.
We've been having the same conversation about this.
Same conversation about them for the last five, six, seven, eight years.
And all the, we expect better.
All the money that's been invested into Lincoln and that brand new facility that we toured the other day that they have on campus now for the players.
And coaches, you know, the stockpile of talent in the greater Southern California area.
Good Lord.
Ridiculous.
You know, the thing that you got to hear at some point is I don't want to hear about USC's offense ever again.
You know what I mean?
I mean, for some reason, well, they're great on offense.
They want to hide.
No one gives a shit.
You win on defense.
Well, you kind of win a game.
I mean, you know, when a per defense is nothing, but let's make sure we're really good on offense.
That's not even, to me, that's not even one-third of the game.
There's so many more variables about how tough are you.
How's a defense play?
How's a special team?
Are they selfless?
You know, I just never hear that.
When you played Nick Sabins, you didn't hear, boy, they're a great defense.
No, they're a great offense.
They're great defense, great special teams.
They're toughest shit.
And they never quit.
You know, the fourth quarter program, that's what you would hear.
Yeah.
Until you hear that, that's what you're hearing in Gainesville right now.
Yeah.
Tell me about their great offense.
Yeah, they're really good.
Tell me what they're deep.
They're really good.
It's not just, and I think that's at some point that's got to happen.
Or it's not.
Are you disciplined?
Do you finish?
All those small things.
Speaking of Gainesville.
Coming up next,
we go to Gainesville.
Florida head coach, John Summerwell, joins us on the Triple I,
option presented by Wendy's.
Light it.
College football season, it's finally here, and there's nothing quite like a college football
Saturday, but you two guys know better than most what it means when an entire season builds
towards that championship stage.
You know, I remember, Mark, our first national championship run, and that was in 06.
Really, we didn't think we'd be there.
This is back in the BCS era where there's only two teams that would make it, and ironically,
we got to play Ohio State.
like it, man, being able to, obviously win a national championship with the squad, win the
Heisman Trophy, there's nothing quite like chasing those goals with your boys, man, the blood,
sweating tears you put in, and I'm glad that these young guys are going to be able to experience
the sooner, and especially it's going to be in Vegas, and we know how Vegas gets, man.
It's going to be turned up.
It's going to be electric atmosphere.
So, man, national championships, Heismans and Vegas, sign me up, dog.
I'm all for it.
Yes, sir.
And this year, the road to Vegas is.
real. For the first time, as you mentioned,
Las Vegas is hosting the college football
playoff national championship. College football
doesn't just end in Las Vegas.
It builds there all season
from opening kickoff through rivalry
weekend to the college football
playoff national championship.

Welcome back to the triple option presented by Wendy's.
Rob, Mark Irvin, back here with you.
Let's carry on the conversation down in Gainesville, John Summerall right now.
He's got no time to talk about that win over Old Miss, do we, coach.
We've already moved on, haven't we?
Yeah, that's long gone to me, old news.
I told our team this morning,
anybody that wants to talk about that in the building,
they're going to get kicked out of the building.
You know, you get a day to enjoy it,
and that's old news at this point.
We've got to turn our focus to Missouri.
You know, three of the last four trips to Missouri for the Gators hadn't been good.
We've lost up there three in the last four times.
And so if we're not focused on what's right in front of us,
we're going to get our ass kick.
So we got to move on real quick.
You know, when I first got to Florida,
I was shocked.
Because I just, you know, I was a Bullying Green, I was Utah, and I got to Florida.
And even when I was assistant Notre Dame, I didn't realize about the nut job fan base that you're dealing with down there.
And that can be a curse and it can be obviously a luxury.
A luxury for all the right reasons.
They're great.
But when you win a big game, I noticed I would like put fire hoses everywhere.
I'd be like, get away from my team.
Stop saying that.
And I'm talking about the beat writers to the fans.
to the, you know, we used to, you don't have that problem.
Coach, we used to have to walk through the masses of people to practice.
And I get police that say, get away from my, how are you, is that new to you?
And how do you keep, you got a tough ass game coming up, man.
Enough with the other one.
And get the fans and everybody away from your team.
How do you do that?
Yeah, Irma, that's a great point.
I think the exposure at the University of Florida is greater than most places.
You know, to your point, this fan base is rabid.
They are crazy.
That's part of what probably attractive.
that you here though and maybe attracted me is the passion and the energy that they care about
this thing. But I usually go opposite of maybe the public. You know, when things are going maybe
good, like we've had some success on the field, we're probably inside the building coaching
guys harder than normal or making sure that we do not get complacent, that we continue to have
our edge. And then if we ever lose a game here, which that might happen once, right? Then,
And we're going to correct the things need to be corrected, but build our guys back up so they
understand, hey, be confident in who you are, bounce back, respond.
And so I usually probably go opposite of the public opinion.
Coach, man, I'm watching Florida, you know, Dudey Fang.
I know you aren't going to talk about Old Miss, but I would have wanted to play for a coach
like you.
I mean, you got 2R Beast and Jane Baugh and Duke Clark.
You guys go for over 300 yards rushing, six Russian touchdowns, play with a physical dominance,
What went into that mindset and that thought process into the game where you're like,
no, hey, we're about to dominate this team at the line of scrimmage.
We're going to be able to impose our will on them.
That's a good question.
I think it starts up front.
Our offensive line has had a significant transformation.
When we got here in January, I said this when I was on with you guys back in the spring,
I was very underwhelmed in what we looked like.
And maybe the physique, the strength, just what that group was.
And, man, they took it to heart.
Like, they owned it.
They looked themselves in the mirror.
Our offensive line has played really good football.
They've had things up well.
They've moved the line of scrimmage for us.
And they've grown as a group.
They're tougher.
They're more blue collar.
They're doing things the right way.
But then it also helps when you get to block for Jayden Ball and Duke Clark, too.
That makes blocking a hell a lot easier.
Both those guys tote the rock, man.
Jayden's a big physical dude.
And it's had a good year, had a good game really each week this year.
far. And then Duke's the next one up, man. He's got juice. He plays a little bit of physicality,
too, a different style runner at times than Jaden. But both those guys are good players. And the other
thing I'd add is our tight ends and our receivers have blocked in the elite level. Like,
that's what it's probably brought as much joy to my heart as anything is watching our perimeter
blocking and guys just finished plays. Like you can watch Dallas Wilson last week and T.J. Abrams
And, you know, a lot of those guys, Amir Jackson at tight in, man, they strain to finish and they're blocking that they're doing for our backs.
And that's when you have a chance to hit explosive runs.
Let's go back to something you just said.
And this is, you were gracious enough to have me come visit in the spring.
And I see this new facility.
I see your energy.
I see a staff bouncing off the walls.
And then to be quite honest with you, I go out to the practice field.
And my first, in the FCC, the first place you always go look is a D line.
I walked right down the D line.
I'm like, okay, they got a long way to go.
Then I walked over the O line because of the SEC, Mark, you know this.
You'll get your face punched in if you don't have an offensive defense line.
And then I went to the skill and I saw really good players.
I saw your backs, your skill.
And I walked away and I think I told you this.
I said, you know, I just, we got some work to do.
but I'm going to go back to our first phone call.
Our first phone call back in last December,
you didn't bitch about the NIL,
he didn't bitch about eligibility,
you didn't bitch about transfer portal.
You talked about your strength coach.
Tell us, because that line to me looks different
than what I saw in May
or whenever that was April or May.
I'm watching these cats play.
Tell me about your coaches
because they're a better looking group
than they were when I saw.
Yeah, you were here in our coaches clinic
because you spoke at our coaches clinic and that it was March and you're right like herb I was
worried like I was watching us early on I'm like I've I've played in this league coached this league
um coached against teams this league and it didn't look like what it quite needed to look like um you
know I think after spring practice ended I gave a little bit of an ultimatum to the O line I'm like
our team will go as far as y'all will take us like I wanted the O line room and and Phil and I
talked about a trot one and i said phil i'm going to come in there after spring ball's over and
i'm going to have a heart to heart with these guys and and you know what we did we do something
every summer urban i love just like the old mat drills you used to do we do something like that
like we've talked about the gauntlet we do another deal in the summer that i'm really um i'm passionate
about and coach wits all in on we do a trench warfare deal a couple times a week which is an o-line
versus d line basically strongest man type competition where you're competing and there's a
win or a loser. And it gets called out. And you win as a O line group or you win as a D line group and
you're matched up with another guy in the summer during the workout. And it's sled pushes, it's
farmers walks, it's all those things that maybe test your internal toughness and just how, how gritty are
you? And then in turn, you're going to get stronger, but man, you're going to get mentally tougher
to the point that you're not going to back down to anybody because you're going to be challenged each
every day you walk in this building.
And so I think that this summer, the polish of that group was kind of put on to where
we're going to create what our identity is going to be by how we play.
Coach Urban talks about that stadium, right, and how the swamp can get swampy and can
overtake teams.
What was your vibe from the swamp on Saturday when you were handling your business with
Old Miss?
It was electric, man.
You know, we go to, they defer.
they win the toss, they defer.
We go down and score pretty lively.
But then they go for it on fourth and one
inside the minus 35
and we get a big fourth down stop.
And it was like, this is real.
Like it got electric real quick.
And at times, man, I'm just sitting there like,
this place is going to have an impact on the game today.
Like the crowd, the stadium,
just the dimensions, the way it's built.
Like I remember being a visiting on the wrong sideline here
and you feel like the people are on top of you.
Like they can reach out and touch you on the sideline.
Man, they had a huge impact.
We need them each and every week.
It's our job to get them going, though.
Like, we got to play good.
If you're playing good, it can set the whole tone for the entire stadium.
But our fan base, to Urban's point earlier, they are passionate.
They are a little crazy.
But good news is, so are we.
And they were a huge factor on Saturday.
Did you allow yourself to take in any of those moments on Saturday, the fan reaction or what was happening and just kind of give yourself a 360 spin of the stadium at all?
You know, you catch it here and there, but I'm so focused on what's going on with the next play.
Like, it's the next play. It's the next play. It's the next play.
The one thing we do here with the in between the third and the fourth quarter here is when they play, I won't back down.
You know, I've done something. My dad passed in December. And so in that little couple minute period,
every home game. I've taken my headset off for about 30 seconds and taken it in and thought
about my dad, to be quite honest with you, and looked up and like, man, he's looking down
of what we're doing. That's beautiful. So, Coach, I tell these guys about, I'm the new Lou Holtz
because I'm an older guy now. I'm retired. Every Sunday, every Sunday, you're going to get that
text. And you know what it is, Mark? I remind them that the greatest growth of a team is not
when you lose. And that's a complete mistake.
when you hear people say that.
You can really push every button as hard as you possibly want
on Tuesday and Wednesday after a win.
And that means on your staff as well
because we're all human beings
and especially like Gainesville or Tuscaloosa,
everybody starts reading those clippings
and patting yourself on the back
where you can pull out 15 plays anytime you want
and show where you can get so much better.
And I'm sure, has that been a big part of the last couple weeks?
Oh, yeah.
Every Monday, I mean, we show the NOLA.
tape and the SDS tape.
NOS is not our standard and SDS is setting the standard.
And so I show the
the place from the game that weren't our standard
on Saturday in front of the entire team.
Like you're going to get called out.
Like there's nowhere to run. There's nowhere to hide.
We're going to tell the truth.
And I told our team after I run through this morning,
like, hey, tomorrow's bloody Tuesday.
And I'm going to know if we're ready to play this week
by how we practice tomorrow.
And they're going to get challenged.
And we do every, we got a great indoor in here.
On Tuesdays, we don't use the day.
damn indoor. Like I don't want anybody going
in the indoor on Tuesday. We're going to be outside.
I hope it's hot.
And Tuesdays have to be physical
and violent and you've got to strain
or you don't know how to play that way on Saturday.
We've got to continue to get better and grow.
If we don't continue to improve,
we're not going to maybe maximize
or become who this team should become.
And that's as individuals, but that's also as a group.
And I love Tuesday practice.
Like I'm fired up about practice tomorrow.
because during the season, man, the coach is time to shine
is Sunday through Friday.
You know, Saturday is the player's day to go play.
And tomorrow is my game day, not theirs.
And Saturday we go cut them loose,
but we definitely do everything we can to show them
where there's still so much room for improvement that's needed.
Before I hand us off the mark again,
I think the listener,
so when you say not our standard,
it's not necessarily a drop ball,
or even a blown coverage.
To me, I know you, and I know when you watch your team play,
I'm sure it's about toughness and effort,
the standard that you're looking for.
Not necessarily a mistake.
Players make mistakes.
Tell them about what our standard needs.
Yeah, it's usually, are you straining to finish?
Are you playing with physicality?
Are you dominating, you know, for me,
in the position rooms,
that's where they're going to coach the hand placement on the O line
or the footwork or the transition at DB.
And I might bring up one or two of those things,
but most of that tape is, like, are we playing to a level that's uncompromised?
It has nothing to do with the opponent but our effort or our mentality.
And we call out maybe anything that looks casual on tape, like gets called out.
And so it's really, or dumb penalties.
Like, all penalties aren't the same, right?
And so penalties that are selfish are going to get shot.
I don't show a penalty where maybe a guy's,
even if a guy's playing to the echo of the whistle
and he just don't hear the whistle,
and I can live with that.
Like, I want our guys to play the echo of the whistle.
But if you do something dumb that costs the team,
that's where you have a problem.
And you said that, you know,
your line has got stronger,
your team has gotten stronger.
I mean, when we talked back in the spring,
you said you was at,
I think, a max deadlift 345.
Has that thing went up or down since?
All right, so I'm dead lifting a little less.
All right.
But I did last Tuesday I squad 405 for three.
Bar on back?
So, yeah, but I'm not deadlifting as much this season.
But I did, I'm still getting under the squat bar moving some weight.
Now, a couple weeks ago, I did 450.
And Rusty Witt, my street coach, he was like 56 and had knee replacement.
He goes, coach, put another 25 inside him.
I said, for who?
Now I'm not doing that.
And Witt did 500.
He's 56 years old.
With a knee replacement.
I'm like,
what's that knee replacement?
What's the weight?
You're allowed to put on there.
But so we're still,
read the warning label.
Yeah,
but yeah,
Witt and I lift every morning together at 6 a.m.
We lifted this morning.
We did bench.
Nothing crazy today,
but squat days tomorrow.
Coach moving that way.
He moving that furniture, huh?
Yeah,
but I've chilled on the dead.
I've chilled on the dead.
Left in a little bit, Mark.
Like, I'm, I'm doing reverse hypers and stuff like that for the low back, but I'm not deadlifted as much anymore.
Hey, what was the post game message Saturday after the win?
And when did you start thinking about how you wanted to address your team?
Really, I go into every game and I go, all right, the right outcome, what needs to be said?
And maybe I don't really think about the wrong outcome very much.
But if it happens, I know what I'm going to say usually anyways.
but I told our guys I could not be more proud of their effort
and they're buying to what we've asked them to do.
But then I also remind them like,
we still have not played our best football.
And so while winning the game is exciting
and being one in O last week is great,
man, I am on to the next and how do we continue to improve.
And so in the locker, we say, hey, celebrate this,
let's have fun of this, protect the team tonight, like nothing dumb,
and enjoy it.
but like tomorrow we turn the page.
And, you know, I also told them in the locker room,
and I remind them again this morning,
you know, you can either humble yourself
or somebody else is going to humble you.
And so we have to through success,
remain humble and focus on what's gotten us to where we are
and how we need to continue to grow.
Yes, sir.
All right.
Keep doing those squats, man.
There's a lot of heavy lifting still to come on that schedule, coach.
I don't need to tell you about that.
Plenty of plenty of to come.
but congratulations on this early start.
And I won't even tell you, remind you that you guys are now inside the top 10, right?
Because there's plenty of people out there who are going to bring that up to you.
No, it puts anything up in the building on where you're ranked between week four and week five.
All right.
So the rankings don't mean anything right now.
And the other thing I did want to add to coaches comment earlier about his text, which I love getting text from Urban.
The only one I didn't care for was what y'all covered that game.
I don't know where y'all were in Europe somewhere.
and he, I got to text it like 2 a.m.
I'm like, what the hell is this?
Me in London.
Yeah, you are over there,
playing across the pond. I don't know what that's all about.
I thought football was in America only, but I didn't know.
Coach and I might have had a pint when he sent that that texture away, Coach Mal.
There's a chance, man.
Hey, awesome.
Congratulations again on this great start.
Good luck carrying it on this weekend against Missouri.
And as always, thanks for joining us again on the triple option.
Coming up next, Mark, he's got his do-do-do-star of the week.
And we take a look at the biggest games of the first.
week five when the triple option presented by Wendy's continues.
Welcome back to the triple option presented by Wendy's before we take a look at the week
five slate.
It's time for our week four.
Dog of the week.
Hey, hey, you can take the earplugs out for the hurrah, right.
But you're going to have to listen to this.
Now, when I start going for my deuce doose dog of the week, I look at a real baller,
a real shot caller who will help his team get a victory, right?
And I go down his list.
I see Colin Simmons with five sacks.
I see Keelan Russell at Alabama, 365 yards and four touchdowns.
I see Jaden Ball, 29 carries, 142 yards, three touchdowns.
As Florida went over 300 yards rushing and six rushing touchdowns.
I see Camaro Taylor with 360 passing yards and beating the number 19 Missouri to stay unbeaten.
But when I look at who a true dog is, when I, what is a dog stone?
It's when you go for 12 catches for a career high.
It's when you go for 217 yards in a career high.
It's when you go for 4 TDs in a career high.
And it's when you're the doggiest dog of a mall in college football.
Jeremiah Smith,
Arrah, hour, hour, hour.
Big dog in a week.
The deuce deuce biggest dog in a week.
Jeremiah Smith, really him.
He ready to play on Sunday three years ago.
But that's the deuce-duce dog on the hour, hour, hour.
week.
That was a Heisman-worthy Saturday from Jeremiah.
That was your bring the beef.
Your team's beef is never frozen and neither is ours.
Coach you like that same.
Don't it?
Good one, Mark.
Coach is starting to like the second more and more.
That was one of the best.
That was one.
You know what you did?
You recognize some elite performances.
I couldn't.
Sometimes I was like, that was your best.
You know, you just got to say the dog.
But this, I had six, seven possible dogs this week.
So they needed some love, coach.
she she don't want a puppy
how'd you say that what
Big dog
Oh my god
Oh my god
Let's talk about the big dog
Matchups this week in week five
A big one from the Big Ten
Which really grew in stature
courtesy of Iowa's last second
win inside the big house
So the Hawkeyes now at number 14
Host the now fifth ranked Buckeyes
By the way coach right
Ohio State
went down last week.
They go up a couple spots this week.
They're now back inside the top five.
Last time, Ohio State, Mark, was in Iowa City, 2017.
Tell me about it.
Tell me about it.
Really?
That was the last time.
That was you, coach.
Yeah, Buckeyes were number three in the nation.
Move on.
You're not going to like it.
55-24.
Hawkeyes won it.
Killed the Buckeyes' playoff hopes with that defeat.
Now, Ohio State goes into Iowa City
to take on a top 15
Hawkeye team coach?
Yeah, one of the most underused
phrases in college football
is a well-coached team
and the respect I have,
we all do for the Big Ten,
you know, the Big Ten winning his coach
and Kirk Farrant and that staff.
And also, the place is a wild place now.
They'll be ready to rock and roll for the Buckeyes.
We got her face kicked in there that one time.
And they're really a well-coach.
team. I mean, it's almost like every year mark
you can say they're going eight to ten games.
And if their offense is better,
they win more. But their defense,
here's what's amazing.
When I walked in the first time we played Iowa
at home, and I walked in on
Sunday and our GA's had all the information
of it, 85%
to 90% of the time, they're in four,
three quarters.
You know, sometimes you're facing all this,
you know, Brett Vanderbilt's teams are all over the place.
But Phil Parker, their deep coordinator,
their number one defense, I believe in the land
right now again and they're always ours but it's they just are so good at stopping your best stuff so
i think the buchies will get get the win but i think this is going to be it it all depends on
the two weaknesses of this game it's going to be strength on strength ohio state offense against
iowa defense how can iowa move the ball where ohio state's defense is at times shown some vulnerability
If they can do this, this will be a very close game.
If they can't, I think a two-scorer win by the Buckeyes.
But it's all on Iowa's offense.
You can't do against Ohio State what they've done other times.
You know, you can't score.
This can't be a 10.1 touchdown game.
Even against the Wolf Range, one of the touchdowns was a kickoff return.
They're too good.
Ohio State's too good to do that.
But if Ohio State or Iowa can move the ball,
this would be a street fight.
They started that final drive on their own nine-yard line
with a buck 46 left.
It was the second longest drive
in the last five years for Iowa to go to Michigan.
Now a couple, let's go back to that drive.
A couple things happened in that drive.
There's one big penalty for sure.
And then they lost the game because, you know,
that game might have been over without that.
And then that they threw a jump ball to the tight end
and kind of bounced around and he made a great catch.
So it wasn't like they methodically moved it down the field.
Right.
Let me add one last thing to wrap up Iowa.
I get a lot of questions from maybe non-football guys, like my soccer people, right?
And they'll be like, Stoner, you know, what's a great place I should go for a college football game, right?
What should I do?
Where should I go?
And they don't know college football.
And they all want to kind of say the SEC.
And I do too.
You know, I'm like, Ah, the Grove and Gainesville and, you know, Tuscaloosa and all this stuff.
but then I will pause and I'll go Iowa City.
And they'll go, really?
I'm like, yes, you go to Iowa City,
you're going to get taken care of.
People are so kind, so nice,
that university is the town.
You know, we're, we are never unhappy
when we go to Iowa, right?
Our location, we can walk right in,
we can find restaurants and other activities.
It's just so welcoming and so pleasant.
And it's Americana.
And Iowa City is a great place,
one of the best to take in a college football.
They were number two on my list after I took
my visit there, man. I almost went to Iowa,
man. Really? I almost went to Iowa.
Wow. You would have done so well at Iowa. You would have won a
He said. You never know. We did it how it was posted to get done.
You did it right at Alabama. So the tide this week,
number seven in the land. They've got a road trip. Mark,
to number 16 Mississippi State
and my guy, Kay Tate.
Hey, Mario Taylor.
Welcome to the big show.
Kay Tay, 360 and three touchdowns last week in the win over ranked.
Missouri had the game winner as well.
Alabama, though, Mark, has won 16 straight.
Yes, you mentioned it.
They won 16 straight.
And this next one, the 17th one, it seems like Mississippi State's best chance to be able to get one if they can.
And it's because of Camario Taylor.
He could create problems with his ability to make plays.
But to me, I think this is more.
about Alabama. This is a chance to solidify your
your chance to go be a contender, right? You go on the road to
Starkville. Not an easy place to play. They call it Stark Vegas for a reason.
They got the cowbells. They got Camaro Taylor. They're going to be excited.
But I think the main thing for Alabama is here is to start fast.
We've seen them start slow against Florida State. We've seen them start
slow here in some previous games. They started fast for South Carolina. And we saw
Ohio, it rolled into a big win for us.
So I think for Alabama, the biggest thing is starting fast.
We've seen them.
Keeler Russell, he's a dog.
He can throw the ball. He can run the ball.
Offensive line, they're getting better.
We ran the football more effectively.
So defensively, we have to be able to contain Camaro Taylor,
limit his explosiveness, limit his plays.
But I think at the end of the day, I think Alabama has more ways to win.
I think they have more playmakers.
I think we're strong on defense.
We just got to learn how to contain this ball player that they have over there.
K-Tay. He's a dog. He is the man, but we got to be able to control the line of scrimmage,
limit his explosive plays. I think once we do that, I think we'll be able to pull away late
in this game. I think the road, I think the tie continues to roll. I think we can make it
17 straight against Mississippi State, and I think we continue to roll and prove ourselves
as one of the true contenders in college football. I agree with you. However, K-Tay and
Mississippi State pull this one off.
that.
So last note on Mississippi State, I don't know how much of it you guys were able to watch
or listen.
They went after a Guinness World Record for most cowbells being utilized at a college football
game or maybe ever at any venue.
So I was watching the tail end of this game with my wife.
And she was kind of like, you know how like when you kind of cock your head a little bit
at the TV?
You're like, what's going on?
Like you kind of lean in one of your ears.
and I look at her and I know what's happening.
I go, they set a world record for most cowbells.
They bang the cowbell at these games.
And you could hear the din over all of the audio.
And it just sounded like, is my speaker off?
Like, if you didn't know what was happening,
you're like, what's happening here?
It's annoying.
That's why you're going there.
It has to be annoying.
No, it's annoying.
So that's what you do.
You go in there, start fast and shut them up.
So they put them, yeah, they put the cowbells down.
You put those cowbells down.
But listen, and Mississippi State is for real.
Mississippi State is for real.
K-Tay is for real.
I think this is going to be a dog fight.
I think Mississippi State makes us uncomfortable early on,
ringing those ugly cowbells.
But at the end, our depth, our physicality
will show up in the second half,
and we will reign victorious.
Roll damn tie.
All right, the...
There we go.
The third and final ranked game this week,
another one from the SEC,
Missouri is somehow still ranked.
They're down to number 25 this week.
after their loss to Florida, speaking of, I'm sorry, Missouri's lost to Mississippi State.
Florida up inside the top 10 right now, the Gator is sitting there at number eight.
Coach Summerall saying we have not yet arrived.
They've arrived in a lot of people's eyes.
Coach, how about this?
Are the Gators ahead of schedule for you?
Oh, they are.
And I mean, we're typical Gator fans right now.
You know, and that's where we appreciate the passion, toughness, and energy, but this shit,
it's a straight up hill run for the Gators right now.
That, I'll tell you what, the one, the SEC to me, when I watch both conferences play,
SEC's back to, you know, they're, there are disappointing A&M, disappointed Oklahoma,
but still, Mark, when I'm watching that damn SEC right now, it's stronger than the Big Ten.
We'll see at the end of the year.
But it just looks, it looks bigger, faster to me.
As of now.
as of now.
10 ranked SEC teams in this week's AP top 25.
The Big 10 has 6.
By the way, 10.
Oh, I'm sorry.
In the top 10, you got Texas at 1, Georgia at 2, Bama at 7, Florida at 8, oldness at 9.
There you go.
And LSU just outside at 11.
By the way, the Big 12, 5 ranked teams as well.
BYU sitting there at 10, Texas Tech at 12.
Utah at 13. Big 12 was making that push to try and get to in there. Let's go to Utah,
man. Let's go to Utah. They are worthy of. BYU is worthy. Texas Tech is worthy of it as well.
So real quick on the Florida Missouri coach, I'll let you wrap this one up. We saw Ole Miss
with that big win over LSU and they just expended so much mental and physical energy in that one.
And then it just couldn't travel to Gainesville. And that's a different type of situation, right?
But now Florida's got like, you know, the win at Auburn and the big win at Ole Miss, which kind of put a little stamp on what they've done so far.
Are any fear in you that there might be a little letdown going on the road to take on a Missouri team that doesn't have the same energy as maybe some of those other SEC places?
Yeah, and you're damn right.
I mean, when you see Ole Miss lose like that, that's exactly what happens.
You know, to say Florida is that much better than Ole Miss?
Of course they're not.
That was a home field advantage.
That was a tough-ass team playing with passion energy like their football coach.
And they just, you know, how does, they ran up for 300 yards.
There had to be a reason.
And it is exactly what you said.
So I'm going to say this to you.
If you have a team of grown-ass men, you address that.
If you don't, it's got to come from your coaching staff.
So again, I'm going to say that last three national championships,
they had champions, they had one thing in common.
They're all older, grown-ass veteran men in the locker room.
If you got young boys, the 17, 18, 19-year-olds.
The puppies.
I don't know that.
I don't know if about Florida.
Then it better be all coaching staff.
Yeah.
But there's nothing like having.
If that's a grown-ass team going into Missouri,
Missouri, you're going to be fine.
If it's not, the coaching staff better get that shit.
Are they big dogs?
Are they big dogs or are they puppies?
Let me leave you with one last stat for Florida.
Gators, 40 or more points in each other?
each of their first four games.
First time they've done that since 2001.
The old Steve Spurrier was running the show.
The Heisman, brother.
The visor.
The visor.
Yeah, I like the Gators.
I don't think there's a slip.
I think there might be a little quarter or so of a struggle,
but I think they win a by him.
She won a puppy coach.
She won't want a what?
