Hey there and welcome back to the podcast.
So today I want to talk a little bit about something that we're hearing a lot lately.
It's like, I called up a friend because I'm just putting in all this work on my blog and it's not making the progress that I would have expected.
I'm working so hard.
I'm working all these hours and I'm just not getting.
where I think I should be with my blog.
And so today I want to talk about something a little bit different.
You might be expecting some tips like, here's what you can do.
Here's what you can do to get that growth that you were expecting and wanting with your
blog.
But instead, we're going to talk about what to let go of.
So sometimes we get really stuck.
And it's not because we're not working hard.
It's not because we're not doing really good things, the right things, the things that somebody
taught us, but it's because we're holding on to things that are keeping us stuck because we're
trying to do too much. So let's walk through a few things that could be holding you back.
And I think if you can think through these, it might feel good to actually let go of some of
them. And I think that if you do this and you're willing to try it, you might just actually
see some of that progress you were hoping to see. So let's just jump right in.
Number one, let go of the over planning.
And this is one that I've done myself.
I still do it.
It's so hard because you want to make sure you have a good plan, which is smart.
You don't just want to jump into something without having thought it through,
without having, you know, any sort of a plan.
You want to know what the right steps are, et cetera.
But it's a fine balance because you can overplan.
an overthink. You can try and write down 20 million things, but nothing actually gets done.
And the thing about planning is it feels so productive. It feels good. It feels like you're getting
all this stuff done. You sit down and you work all day and you look at something and you look at like,
okay, here's the next six blog posts I'm going to write, but you didn't write a blog post. You just
thought about what you could write. A lot of times over planning is truly just procrastination.
So what you need to think about is, you know, some planning is important, but continuing to plan
isn't going to give you clarity. You're going to get more clarity by taking action because you're not
going to know, like, for example, what type of content resonates with your audience until you publish
it. So you can plan all you want. You can plan out the next three months of blog posts. But if you
haven't even published one, you have no idea if that's going to work or not. So be really mindful of
that as you are working, it is obviously great to batch your work, have a plan, but you don't want to
spend so much time on this that you're not actually taking action. The people that are willing
just to put it out there, they can come back and fix it later, they're going to see more growth
than those people that are just sitting there and not publishing anything because they're trying
to perfect their content calendar. Number two is letting go of the need to learn everything first.
This one's kind of sneaky because it's easy to tell yourself, well, I'm not, I'm not ready yet.
I need to learn a little bit more. I need to take another course. I need to know the correct way to write a blog post.
I need to know the right way to do SEO research and keyword research. I need to know what platforms are the best to be on.
I need to know what Pinterest strategies will work. And to be honest, these platforms and blogging in general,
the landscape changes all the time algorithms change platforms evolve new tools come on the market old
tools go away so you can't just continue to try and learn how to do all of these things all the time
because if you wait until you feel fully prepared you're never going to actually you know make any
progress and get anything done so the best way to learn something is by actually doing it and I think
about this a lot. When I think about all the training I got by going to college, I studied accounting,
but I think back and I'm like, wow, I don't think I actually learned how to do a tax return
until I was on the job. So those five years I spent in college learning and learning and learning,
yeah, it certainly added value to my life, but it didn't really get me anywhere in terms of my job.
I had to learn my job by doing my job. And that's the same with blogging. You're going to learn the job
of blogging by blogging, you know, write your blog post, put out your email list, sign up and ask
people to sign up. Even if you don't know what you're going to write to them yet, just do it.
You can always come back and improve things later. And so it's important. And I am a lifelong
learner. I always want to learn. But make sure you're balancing that with actually taking action
and not just trying to make sure that you know every possible scenario before you jump in and hit
publish on your blog. If you've been dreaming about starting a blog or you're stuck trying to grow
the one you already have started, we have created something just for you. It's called the

Okay, the third thing I want to talk about today is letting go of the belief that you are behind.
And gosh, this one is, why do we do this to ourselves? Because I'm pretty sure that when we decided
we were going to be a blogger, there wasn't a timeline. We were like,
hey, this sounds great. I think I can make an impact. I think I have a story. I think I can help
people. I don't think we ever set a deadline for ourselves. Like, if I'm going to help this person,
I have to do it by this date. Or if I'm going to blog, I have to be making this much money by this
amount of time. And so there's really no one path fits all for this. So you can't tell yourself,
hey, I should be further along by now. Or everyone else has this figured out and I don't. Or it's just
getting too late. I can't even start. But I want you to understand that there is no being behind
in blogging because blogging is a beautiful career because it is a journey that can be completely
yours. It's about your life. It's about the time and energy that you have. It's about your own
personal goals, your reasons for doing it, the people that you want to help. So comparing where
you're at right now to where somebody else is who has a completely different life story,
who's in a completely different place in their life and you can't see behind the scenes of all
the work that they've done, that's not ever going to get you anywhere. You have to truly believe
that I am where I'm supposed to be right now and I'm going to learn what I need to learn
by taking the steps that are in front of me right now. The only way to be behind you,
behind is just to stop. And that's what we do to ourselves. We say, well, I'm behind. So what's the point
anyway? I'm just going to quit or I'm just going to take a break. Really, if you can just
give yourself the opportunity to take just really meaningful steps, you're going to make a lot
more progress than if you like try to rush and meet some deadlines, some artificial deadlines,
or you try to, you know, get to where you think somebody else is right now.
So instead of focusing where you think you should be, celebrate where you are and know that
you are taking all the steps that you need to be taking right now and that you want to grow
and that you want to help people.
And that is what is going to help you make the progress.
So really, it's just about kind of letting go of some of those beliefs that we have to have
it all figured out, that we have to do this a certain.
way. And it's really just about doing it our way. So let go of that. Make a promise to yourself that no
matter what, you're going to just cut it off. You're going to launch that blog or you're going to write
that blog post and you're going to write it consistently. Because having that consistency,
even if you're not doing it all, you're not publishing on every single social media platform and
pinning to Pinterest a million times, you're doing something. You're letting go of the belief that you
have to do it all. You're going to do what you know you need to do today. You're going to take some
action and that is going to move the needle for you. So letting go of all of those beliefs that are
holding you back and just moving forward with what you know you need to do today. So as a bonus,
I just have one more thing. And what I want to say is let go of the idea that you have to do this
all by yourself because blogging can be really isolating.
If you're sitting at your kitchen table, you're hiding in the bedroom, it's easy to feel like
you're all alone. And so what I want is just to invite you to join us inside our community because
there's so many people in there who know exactly how you feel. And it is such a supportive place to
kind of let go of some of those old beliefs, to let go of some of those comparisons and really have
real and true conversations with people who are also walking the same path.
So if you're interested, we would love to have you.
You don't need to do this alone to be successful.
You can join us by looking at the ultimate blog roadmap.com, and we'd sure love to have you
there.
So I hope something in today's episode will help you just kind of take a deep breath and say,
I can do this.
I can let go of these things that are stressing me out unnecessarily.
don't have to know everything and I deserve to publish that blog post and let people see it
even if it's not perfect. I don't need a full flawless plan. I just need to take action today.
So let go of what's holding you back and just watch and see if things don't start to shift
in your business. Thank you so much for listening and we'll talk to you soon.
