Starting point is 00:00:26 Discover coffee plus on nispresso.com. even kiss anymore? No, we don't. That's so sad. We need to bring that back. Hey, it's six weeks. I know. Yeah, six week appointment today. I got the ick big time when you took your temperature as an adult. I was like, you were a grown man. Wait, when did I take? I've seen you have that little thermometer on your head before and I'm like, that is for the children. They do escape their room every single night and every single morning. They always have an excuse. Sometimes they just come out just to say that they are having a hard time sweeping. Was you rather change a baby's blowout or a toddlers throw up. You've cleaned up puke like once or twice, right? I was literally a barf bag for our baby on a
Starting point is 00:01:05 whole flight. That's true. It's soaked through my bra. Thank you for subscribing. Thank you for liking the episode. And let's get into it.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Welcome back to Unplanned, everybody. We are going strong over here. Abby is literally feeding our baby while we're recording this episode. I'm hungry. How do you feel about the breastfeeding at this point? Because that's like what you're doing half your day. I actually really like it this time. You do?
Starting point is 00:01:48 Yes. Oh, good. I feel so grateful for it because with two other toddlers in the house and like, I mean, we got a lot going on on our calendars in our lives. and even work-wise, I think I wouldn't ever stop to connect with the baby and like snuggle.
Starting point is 00:02:06 You know what I mean? I feel like this is just like a built-in, like very acceptable way to just snuggle all the time. It's always acceptable to snuggle your newborn. But I'm saying like this is like I'm able to prioritize it because it's literally,
Starting point is 00:02:20 we've only exclusively breastfed during the day. And so that's been so, so sweet. I just feel so bad for him like hearing him breathe, you can hear the congestion in his lungs. I know. And I just wish there's something that we could do like some medicine to give him, but that like literally does not exist, you know. I know. We, I think he's the one who got actually the entire family sick, which is like crazy. Like how did he get it first? Yeah. No one else is touching him except for me all day long. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's like
Starting point is 00:02:50 me using the snot sucker, like sucking his bookers out. I like literally inhale. I was like sucking with all my forced to get all the his congestion and I feel like I just took whatever that was and brought into my lungs but how did you give it to me because we have not been yeah you just got it or anything you just got it yeah I haven't even seen you do we even kiss anymore no we don't that's so sad that's one of my new year's resolutions we need to wait what we need to bring that back what the heck hey it's six weeks I know yeah six week a six week appointment today okay okay I didn't be to say it like that Speaking of the six-week appointment, how did that go today?
Starting point is 00:03:30 Well, I mean, there was a point where I was like... Like, we've already talked about this, by the way, but I guess let's just fill everybody else. Yeah, there was a time where I was pants down with a sheet on my waist and nursing and he was crying. You were pants down while you were nursing? I didn't know what to do. He doesn't take a binky and he was like losing his mind. That is something about him. Oh gosh, he's just like, he's just trying so hard to eat right now.
Starting point is 00:03:54 He is our first kid to not have to not use a binky. Like our other two kids We had to You know invent the binky fairy To find a way to get rid of the binkies For our four-year-old And now like You better not listen to this episode
Starting point is 00:04:07 In front of our children I know Yeah that'd be so devastating if he knew If he knew the truth What Um No but yeah He kind of has to use you as a passie
Starting point is 00:04:17 Because there's There's no He doesn't really care about binkies He makes a lot of sounds Yeah he's a grunty baby Yeah But yeah, he doesn't take a binky. And actually the pediatrician looked in his mouth, which I mean, I don't think this is
Starting point is 00:04:32 detail that he would ever mind us sharing in his adult life. He has a really high palate, like in his mouth. Yeah. Wait, why would that be like a bad thing to share? I don't know. I feel like we don't really talk about their... Oh, yeah. That's something that's fine.
Starting point is 00:04:47 The roof of his mouth goes up like a mountain, honestly. And so she's like, that's probably why he doesn't really like a binky is because it's not touching the roof of his mouth. But then you got like a very unique type of binkie that we've been trying to use a little bit and he just still doesn't care. Yeah, he still doesn't really like I've tried so many times. Your mom was really trying to get him to use it and he not like it. Yeah, my mom came to visit us you guys for a week, which was so helpful. A full week. Abbey's mom and dad, they're out of town.
Starting point is 00:05:13 They've been in Europe, which like happy for them. That's like super duper fun. But my mom came in and spent some time with us and she's like she's such a good grandma. Like I feel I feel really blessed that Such a good grandma Yeah but my mom my mom played really hard with the boys And then she started getting sick While she was visiting because of how hard she was playing with them
Starting point is 00:05:35 Which I think kind of just happens like pretty much every time my mom visits she gets sick Because toddlers just have a lot of germs And we try to make them wash their hands a couple times a day But you know How good how good really are three and four year olds at washing their own hands So Well their immune system just aren't developed as much. Yeah. Back to the six-week appointment, though, like, fill me in.
Starting point is 00:06:00 I don't, we kind of, like, we kind of jumped the gun there. What, what all did you learn from the six-week appointment? I mean, I don't know. What do you think happens at a six-week appointment, Matt Howard? I think they do- He kept asking me, like, how to go? Glad it was good. I was like, what do you think we did? I think, I think, I think it was a quick appointment. I think you probably got, you got good news. You can work out again, which I know you're, really excited about. Yeah, I mean, we were cleared for everything. That was, um, but that's like a really quick thing. I had some stitches so they did it like a check to make sure everything was good and everything's great. Um, but, uh, then they do like a postpartum mental health survey. Nice. And then,
Starting point is 00:06:40 which I think is great. Oh, she kind of like debriefed on our birth too, which was like, I feel like that's really nice because I don't know. As like a non-medical person, you're like, had everything go? Like it was, or was it good? Like, and, And she was very positive about everything. She was like, that was amazing. Like, she was like, he came super fast. She was like, how long did that bruising last? Like, she checked in on him.
Starting point is 00:07:03 And she was even, like, very positive about another V back in the future, which I was really surprised by because we did have a complication that we had with our first, a shoulder distosia. But she said it was, like, very minor. And she was like, I know what to do. Like, she was like, I think everything was, like, really good. And she was very positive about it. I know. Because I thought for sure we'd have to have a scheduled C-section if we ever had a fourth. That's such good news.
Starting point is 00:07:29 I know. To know that if we go down that route again, to not have to have a C-section is awesome. Yeah, which I mean if we did, if we decided to have a fourth and we wanted, like, a C-section, I'm not afraid of. Like, I wouldn't be worried about it at all. But it is good to know that, like, that is a possibility down the line. I love how you already have your workout clothes on. Like, the first thing I noticed about today, you, I saw you this morning and you had, had your leggings on, your sports pro on. You were just like
Starting point is 00:07:58 gearing up to get the all clear at the six week appointment, go back to the gym. I didn't know if you were going to go back to the gym like earlier in the morning today, but it sounds like, I don't have anyone to watch the baby. Yeah, I know. So I, and so since your mom's at a town, we don't have anybody to, you know, keep an eye on our baby. You're taking, I guess, what are we doing? Who's actually, who's going to watch the baby while you go to the gym? My friend's going to hold him while I'm in the class. That's so sweet. Oh, that's so sweet. Yeah, so nice. nice but you're working out with a bunch of your friends at the gym and then one of your friends is going to hold our baby during the workout yes that's cool for anybody that's like on the newer
Starting point is 00:08:31 side here fill everybody in on like why the gym is so important to you postpartum i mean it's just a part of important to my life in general like for oh my gosh since freshman year of college like literally since i was adult like it's just been a part of my life i just feel like i'm not like the fittest person in the world, but just working out makes me feel so much better mentally and makes my body feel better. And so specifically postpartum when like my mental health has always been like a little bit shaky. I've never been diagnosed with anything, but like just those hormone shifts like anyone goes like most women know. Like that's just a emotionally up and down state and working out really has like helped me have like clarity of mind. And so I'm really excited to get back
Starting point is 00:09:18 And also it's just like a celebration of like You just spent nine months with your body Like not being able to do the things that you necessarily want to do with it And then you can finally do it again Obviously we're gonna ease into things But like being able to jump not with a huge belly Or like something pushing on your pubic bone And like being able to like
Starting point is 00:09:38 I don't know like lift and not be like super cautious about like Oh is this gonna do something to my core Obviously we're being really careful with the core But it's just a different And it's honestly just a celebration of like what your body can do after it just did something crazy. It's like now we can get back and build muscle again. I didn't understand what you meant by at making your mental health better until I started working out more. And now I completely I completely get it.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Like I've started working out a lot more than I used to. And the mental health benefits have been almost better than like the physical benefits. 1,000% because like, yeah, I'm getting stronger and I'm growing muscle, but to just like feel good about myself and feel like I accomplished something at the start of the day. That's the other thing, too. My dad used to say when I was a kid, you got to work out like at the start of the day. It's the only time to do it. And I was like, that's that stupid.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Like you don't need to work out in the morning. But now that we have kids and we have, you know, all these responsibilities, getting it done at the end of the day ensures that it's, that it actually happens. Because I used to just put it off. and then around, you know, three or four o'clock, I'm like, oh, shoot, I don't have, I don't have the time. Like, I have too many other things on my to-do list. And so, like, kind of like you, I've started working out in the morning, and that's been huge. Well, I mean, I'm obviously working out in the evening today, but it's just like once you get used to working out, like, you know that it's a
Starting point is 00:11:05 part of your day. It's non-negotiable. Then you can kind of be flexible with whenever you can get it in. It feels good. But yeah, I'm really excited to just do it again, just to get on. I'm going to need a good sports bra. I did order a new one for Amazon. You ordered a new sports bra? Yeah. What type of support is like a certain brandy? It's for running.
Starting point is 00:11:26 It was just like you just searched running sports bra. I think I did high support. High support. Is there like a certain brand that makes like running? It was just an Amazon brand. Oh, okay. We'll see. Yeah, because I'm like they're not going to be this size for long.
Starting point is 00:11:39 So I want to just get like less expensive one. Has that been hard? But heavy duty. Like you've been wanting to. buy like a new wardrobe recently. Have you been buying new clothes? Are you like not really doing that? No, I've just been wearing stretchy clothes still. Because what did you do last pregnancy? Like you got rid of a lot? I bought like all new pants. Not all new pants. I got new pants and they were like kind of expensive. They were from free people. And then because I like was kind of like what do you call that
Starting point is 00:12:06 doomsday. I was like I'm never going to fit in my clothes again. And so I bought new pants that were like pretty expensive and then two months later I didn't fit them so so where did those pants go I gave them two oh they're gone you don't even have them anymore no I don't have them anymore because then I was like I was thinking oh yeah you could just use all the clothes that you bought last time postpartum but they're gone you gave them to a friend you didn't fit in that many more okay got it I really go through things you don't hold on this stuff very long I feel like you got that from your mom because your mom doesn't like clutter and she just like did you see me on Sunday I I was freaking out.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Yeah, you were throwing stuff away. You threw away half the condiments in our fridge. I just needed those out of there. You're just like everything was going. You're like, well, you could give that to somebody. I'm like, that is somebody else's problem. You're like, does someone want the salad dressing? Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:12:56 That was a disgusting dressing. And I just got it, but I hate it so much. And now it's gone. Yeah. I don't want to be wasteful, but sometimes it just hits me that. I'm like, these condiments have gotten out of hand. This is actually a genuine question I have. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Do people individually rinse out every single like, jar or container, like a peanut butter jar. Do you rinse that out before you put it in the recycling? Because like in my head, when I was taught in fourth grade to reduce reuse recycle, I was, I learned that you have to make sure there's no like food substances or oil or grease or whatever on it because it's the same reason you can't throw away a pizza box. Do you like rinse out peanut butter jars I'm just throwing them away? So sad. It's okay. There's only so many hours the day. It depends on how busy I am. If I'm like really busy, peanut butter joy going into the trash. I care. I care environmentally. I'm the one who drove our recycling every single week in college. I forgot about that. Yeah, we didn't have recycling at our,
Starting point is 00:13:53 at our apartment. So you would, we would drive it together to the recycling center. Yeah. And we, and we, and we, and there was no, it's not like they'd pay you for that. You just kind of just do it. No, I absolutely honestly good on us. Gosh, we like, but peanut butter that is, there's too many crevices. I used to do it. And then I, I just had to free myself of that. Wait, I'm, proud of us. Can we just take a second that in college, we took time out of our Saturday to go drop off our recycling. And see, those I felt like we're actually getting recycled because we sorted them ourselves. Whereas like the recycling trucks that come to our house, it's all together. Okay, but this is what makes me so sad. And I heard that those just get thrown away. I've been learning, yeah, that like half the
Starting point is 00:14:32 recycling that we recycle just get thrown away. Isn't that so sad? My brain, I just don't want to believe that. Do we know can someone let us know? My grandparents drove their recycling too. That's so sweet, but it's like, why are we all recycling if it's just going to the landfill anyway? You know? I don't think it is. And if that's the case, we got to figure this out, America. We need to change things up, you know? Thank you to Rocket Money for sponsoring this portion of today's episode.

I actually opened, I almost opened the episode by confessing that I'm tired saying the dreaded D word. I'm already still pissed off at you from being sick. I know.
Starting point is 00:16:17 That's the problem. I can't like, it's a double whammy. If I'm sick. You keep asking me, are you sick. I'm like, no, I'm not sick. You are sick. You can hear it in your voice. You can hear, I can hear the congestion. I hear it in your nose. I'm not sick. You've been sniffily. And I'm like, don't even talk to me. Yeah. You were really nice to me the first day of being sick. Yeah. Why was that? Because I've always said in my head that you get one day to be I get one day to be. No, but see, the first day is not the day. Like, I was fine the first day.
Starting point is 00:16:45 It hit me really hard. Actually, it was the day after that hit me hard. And you didn't have any drink. You just need to keep your mouth shut until day two then. And then that will be your one free day. I should have. I should have. Maybe could you give me 48 hours to have some grace when I'm sick?
Starting point is 00:17:03 Did that? Did the mic pick that up? That was impressive. I love how he just kicks to get it out. I know. I'm just like, lets it go. Gets it from you.
Starting point is 00:17:12 No, but there's, been, there's been some. Oh my gosh, Addy. He was farting. Me or our son? Our son. Yes. I wouldn't tell her about that. In the middle of the night. So, so loud on the diaper change table. I literally was, I could not believe it. I just kept doing that. This is your son. You know where you like move the legs back and forth. It works on him like a whoopie cushion. And then you move them all the way back to their tummy. You need to record it one night. I did. I did that multiple times and it was just. It was so much. I never heard something like that. He might rival you, Matt Howard.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Oh, yeah. I think he wins. If we had a, you know, who's gassier, it would be our son. It comes from your side of the family. Something. Everyone's probably, everyone just clicked off. They're like, this is, we're talking about far too much. No, it's amazing.
Starting point is 00:17:58 What we're talking about? We were talking about me being sick and how you hate when I'm sick. Oh, you get one day, but maybe we can extend it to 40 hours. I have to say, you were really nice to me at the first day. Like super nice. my head you get one day you were so nice you you told adie you're like cancel all of matt's meetings today he's sick and then i was like babe i'm actually i have to work i can't just call off all my meetings so i didn't call them i worked i worked from bed for the first like 45 minutes of the day responding to
Starting point is 00:18:27 emails um but you know the evening i took the kids out yeah well okay that's the thing i actually felt fine to go out to the birthday party that evening but then out of respect for my brother I was like, do you want me to stay home because I'm sick? And then he'd said yes. So I just didn't, I didn't come. I didn't know of that exchange. But I would have, I would have came, though. Like, I totally was feeling fine.
Starting point is 00:18:50 You would have come. It was the next day, though. Our son had his first soccer game of the year. And I didn't know that we were starting at 8 a.m. on a Saturday. I didn't know that. I thought Saturdays were the day that we could sleep in. Oh, my gosh. When days do you get to sleep in, Matt Howard?
Starting point is 00:19:08 Never. Never. But. Sleep is not a bit subject. We're done. We're done talking about me being sick. It's pissing my wife off too much. I'm not even sick. I just decided that I'm completely healthy and fine. That's what you have to do. That doesn't work that way. It does. No, it does not. It does not. It does not work that way.
Starting point is 00:19:24 I've handled this disease way better than you have it. I'm not even sick. You just started getting it today. You're going to feel way worse tomorrow. I did not. Just start getting it today. Did you have it? When did you start getting it? Never. Never. That's the thing. You think that like you can outsmart your way through sickness? And I did. I did. Okay. Moms can't get sick.
Starting point is 00:19:43 You guys, we sold out again with Biswell Beauty. I don't know if you guys got the news. We didn't post a ton of short form videos about Biswell Beauty this time because we didn't want to have a lot of angry people that went to go buy the mascara and weren't able to. So we only posted, I think, like, one or maybe two videos about it. But it's still in two days, mascara completely sold out. You guys are insane. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:20:07 I don't know what's going on. I don't know what's in the water. but like it's just really good mascara i i guess that's what it is i guess the mascara is really just that good it is but um we're working to get a lot more so then it's not just constantly out of stock there's going to be a lot come in november yeah we hope there's always like this is something i'm learning i don't really know much about this stuff but there's always variables that can like make it later but i'm really thinking it's going to be here in november right yeah and i don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but I'm going to go and say it. Some of you guys did notice that Abby was
Starting point is 00:20:43 using something special in one of her most recent makeup videos. So the comments were kind of on to Abby. They saw the product. We have a lot of things in the works for Vizdil Beauty, so that's really exciting. Yeah. How does it feel to be full-on like mom, mom-tripineer? Mom. I am not that. You're a mom-entrepreneur. That's not me. No. What do you mean? I'm not a mom. entrepreneur. I mean, you're a mom and you're an entrepreneur and you're... I don't really feel like I'm an entrepreneur. You don't? I mean, you're literally the definition of an entrepreneur, I mean, you're literally, if you look up in a dictionary what an entrepreneur is, that is what you're doing. I don't think so. Next question. Okay. Okay. No, I just really
Starting point is 00:21:31 like mascara. Yeah, that's true. I guess... And I specifically like this mascara. I guess with you being obsessed with mascara your whole life, you probably just know, a thing or two about it. And so you just, you just knew what your own formula needed. You know, you just, I love seeing how everyone's like, it's buildable. It's like amazing. Yeah, you can get the, you get the look that you want. Like, if you want crazy spider lashes, you can do that. Or you want, like, more natural. You can do that too. But the best thing is that you can do it quickly and with no other products. Like, you don't need a primer. You don't need to like, I don't know, do a million layers before you feel like you have some good results. Like you can just, you're good.
Starting point is 00:22:14 It's been really fun reading through everyone's reviews on the website. Bizwell-dashbeautcom. It's been so much fun. All the reviews are there. That one's your baby, the website. Yeah, guys, I pulled actually, that's probably why I got sick is I pulled two all-nighters working until 5 a.m. on the Biswell Beauty website. And I did that because it was when my parents were in town the first time, so then they were able to wake up with the boys. And then I paused working on the website to help with the feedings for Fisher in the night. And then the second time I pulled an all-nighter was when my mom was in town. So then she again woke up with our three and four-year-old, and then I was able to do the night feedings with you. But like, it was actually so much fun working on the website.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Like I just got to nerd out about like how do we make it as simple as possible? How do we make the banner have the information that we need to communicate to everybody? How do we make checkout simple like I'm trying to make everything easier and easier and the website right now I'm happy with it but I think I can still make it better so I think I'm going to nerd out at some point in the future not right now. So we get an app? Get what? Get an app.
Starting point is 00:23:18 Should we have a Biswell beauty app? Yeah, why not? Maybe. I mean, I guess we could. I guess we could. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe one day there's a Viswell beauty app. But no, like the whole point is just to make it as easy as possible for people to check out.
Starting point is 00:23:32 And what's crazy is this time when we when we drop. people in Arizona were already telling us that they received their order literally within 24 hours of order yeah a lot of my friends that ordered got it like within 24 hours that's crazy so I guess if you're in a nearby state to Arizona you could probably expect to get yours quicker and if if you're like in Alaska or Hawaii it probably is gonna take a little bit longer because we're because the the fulfillment like we're going through USPS so they're the ones doing the shipping yeah yeah so that's cool it's so sweet like even my friends were buying it which is
Starting point is 00:24:05 is so nice. I know. It's so, it's so sweet. Like, every time when someone, I almost like feel bad, like when, when like friends and family say they're buying it, I'm like, I'm like, no, like, we'll just give it to you. And then I'm like, but then I'm like, we obviously wouldn't have a business if we give free mascara to everyone. But that's fine. I don't know. I do, I do ask Addy. You ask Addy, you're like, Addy, can I give free mascara? She's like, yeah, they're like, she's like, Yeah, you can have it. I was like, there's a note on it. It says, ask Addie before. Yeah. I don't know. I don't want to mess up any system.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Yeah, it is, it is like a new, it's been a new adventure. It's been, it's been really fun. Like, I'm excited for the new drop and I'm excited for you guys to get to see all the products in the works that Abby has been working diligently on. The thing, though, is like, there was a product that we thought might be ready for the end of the year, but it's going to get pushed into the new year. Because we just, we just don't want to rush anything. Like, we want to make sure that it's genuinely. good. And with the factory, like they have this, they have this whole review process where they have a ton of different people review the product, rate the product, fill out like all these questionnaires on the product. And then, and then also do, do like tests over time to make sure
Starting point is 00:25:28 that it's not just good right when when you open the bottle, but it's, it's good, you know, a stability test? Yeah, stability test. Thank you. Abby's better with the terminology than me. So that's in the works too on one of our upcoming exciting products. I know. So super, super proud of you, babe. Thank you. I'm excited for everyone to experience it.
Starting point is 00:25:51 But also it's just been, it's one of those things where there's so many exciting things going on in life that it's like, that's why I cannot identify as an entrepreneur. I'm like, it doesn't get the majority of my brain. The majority of my brain is literally going to keeping him alive and happy. Yeah. And you're doing it and you're doing a great job.
Starting point is 00:26:09 He's doing great. But yeah, I've been really actually loving nursing this time. Way better this time around. What made the time? In the past with nursing, like what was going on that made it not as good? Were you getting bit more? No, our second just didn't really like it as much. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:26 So then I just felt like I was inconveniencing him by breastfeeding him. He was like, I just wound a bottle like the whole time. but then he likes it because he doesn't take a binky so okay can we talk about the fact that he's been sick now for like a while which is so sad we keep taking him to the doctor but they just you know they they say turn on the humidifier take him in the in the hot steam shower so that he can not like not in the water but in i'll take him in the shower to the side so he can breathe in the steam um and i've done that like even in the middle of the night if he's having trouble yeah you've been good about that breathing i'll do that
Starting point is 00:27:05 Like literally at 3 a.m. with Fisher in the shower. Yeah, literally. That really does help it. That was like me a week ago. Thank you to Cash App for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. In today's age, I feel like getting money understanding is very confusing for kids. Oh, yeah. Kind of makes it seem like credit cards are like this magic wand that automatically gets you what you want.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Kids don't have a very tangible understanding of the transfer of money. So if you're a parent and you are wondering what's a tool you could use to help your kid understand finances and maybe help teach them some financial literacy at a young age, you might want to look into cash app because they're now offering managed accounts for kids, ages 6 to 12, that grow with them all the way to adulthood, all with no subscription fees because building money habits shouldn't cost extra. The account runs through you, so you're not just watching from the sidelines. You're actually in it with them. And that's what makes it a real teaching tool. Every time money comes in or goes out, it's a chance to talk about it together. You set spending limits and you can lock or unlock their cash app visa card anytime
Starting point is 00:28:04 from your own app. Automate their allowance and track the flow of money in and out together. Kids can start building real saving habits early by earning interest on savings. Starting point is 00:28:46 Visit cache.com slash legal slash podcast for full disclosures. Where was I? Where was I going with that? How we're terrified for six season? Yeah, I guess, I guess that's a good point. I am scared for six season. I got some Manuka honey. I got the kids on some vitamins. The problem is our... The problem is it's our three and four-year-old. They're going to be the ones bringing germs in to get him sick.
Starting point is 00:29:07 We're getting flu shots for sure. I heard that if you get flu shots in the beginning of October. But they weren't even able to do. It's the strongest. They weren't able to do Fisher's vaccine at the doctor, right? Because it's him being sick. It was just, yeah. It wasn't.
Starting point is 00:29:20 They're not worried about it. He'll get back on track easily. You know that when I was a baby, I think I was like four weeks old. I'd get a shot like in my head. Like they had to put like a needle in my head. Or no, that was my brother. For me, it was something else, but... A needle in your head?
Starting point is 00:29:35 But my mom told me this when she was here visiting. Both Caleb and I were both hospitalized for multiple days when we were newborns. Like, we both got sick. I got sick as a newborn, too, actually. Were you hospitalized, too? Um, they did a spinal tap. Holy freaking heck. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:52 Yeah. Dang. I don't even think anything was wrong with me. I think my parents just kind of freaked out a little bit. It's scary, though. My soft spot was spool, and that's what it was. was, yeah, which can be really serious. I think they were wanting to rule out meningitis.
Starting point is 00:30:07 Got it. I didn't have it, but. Yeah, it's, it's really scary. It's scary. I hate it. I really hate it. But he's never spiked a fever. He's been eating amazing.
Starting point is 00:30:17 In fact, he gained a pound in a week. That's, oh, that's what I brought it up. Yes. Even though he's sick, he's been gaining weight like crazy. A pound in a week is insane. I love that. Especially for a six week old. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:30:29 Like, I know that that's like just on him and like his body. type but for me that's like the only that's the only information you can really know about your newborn is like their weight and like what percentile they are so i just really locked in on like making him as big as possible but it makes sense abby it makes sense because last night remember how i gave him five ounces at three a m yeah and he wanted and he was still hungry he literally had six ounces he downed it so fast and i even took time to burp him change his diaper swaddle all that he still right after he started doing this he started like moving his head
Starting point is 00:31:06 to the side you could tell he just wanted more milk and I'm like babe we need to give him another ounce six ounces at six weeks old is crazy he was five weeks last night five weeks and six days he had a six ounce bottle yeah that makes you wonder how much he's getting at the when he breast feeds because today I breastfed him and he spit up
Starting point is 00:31:22 and he doesn't even do that with a bottle so maybe you gave him like eight ounces and he just couldn't hold it down I can't imagine that but you never know gosh good job buddy that has to help that with him fighting off whatever he's fighting off eating a lot of food has to be helping right well it just helps him pee a lot flush everything out yeah he's getting he's staying hydrated he's pulling my hair he smiled at me i swear he smiled at me yesterday really and then i googled when can baby smile
Starting point is 00:31:48 intentionally and it said six to eight weeks that's really sweet so he's a mama's boy for sure i'm excited to see when he's like do we think he's gonna say mama or dad at first probably dad I think it's easier for them to say. Really? Yeah. Why I think it didn't make a difference? I thought it was just easy either way. I think it's easier to say da-da.
Starting point is 00:32:12 They meant, ma, ma, ma. Mama. Da. It's easier to say, da-da. How do you feel about the fact that in two days, we're taking that guy on a road trip, six-hour, six-hour drive to Southern California? I think it would be great. I mean, he does really hate the car seat. Actually, one of my friends sent me a really helpful tip
Starting point is 00:32:33 What was it? It's this video of babies It's not a great... We're going to try it But they add like one of those baby monitors on their car seat Of their little baby girl And she's like screaming in her car seat And then they turn on the song
Starting point is 00:32:53 I got that ride temperature And then she just stops crying and start smiling So we're going to try it Temperature by Sean, Sean Kingston. We're going to try a temperature by Sean Kingston the whole way to Newport. See, I think that should work.
Starting point is 00:33:10 I'm feeling, I'm feeling super confident in our, in our toddler's ability to crush it on the road trip. Or something to turn on a movie. They're going to be chilling. Actually, I was going to run this by you. I was going to say that for the first hour they can't watch a movie.
Starting point is 00:33:23 I think they could do that. I think if we tell them the movies coming. Yeah, we're just going to give them the Yoto and let them listen to the stories and give them books. First hour. Snacks. Snacks.
Starting point is 00:33:33 First hour, they do not need anything. And then we can let them watch them and then we'll take it away again for a little bit. Because I just feel like we're going to get to our destination and they will be like total zombies. Yeah. You know how screens can. Because even though it's a six hour drive, we're going to have stops. We're going to have bathroom breaks. I don't know how this is going to go.
Starting point is 00:33:53 At what point do we start bringing like water bottles, empty water bottles in the cars that our kids can just like pee while running around around. I'm not just putting them in pull-ups. That's a good point. But now they don't go in them if they're awake. Did you know that like me and my brothers, if we were on a road trip, my parents didn't want to stop, like we would literally like pee in a water bottle.
Starting point is 00:34:10 No, that's what my brother did. Gatorade bottles were best. Does everybody do that? Is that just like a Midwest thing for boys? Like that was so common. Yeah, I mean, no, I couldn't. No girl can go be in a Gatorade bottle. But I'm saying like when they're 10.
Starting point is 00:34:24 Like we're not going to put a 10-year-old in a pull-up. But right now, I think the pool up. I fully remember Blake peeing in Gatorade bottles. Oh gosh. For sure. Yes. 100%. Really?
Starting point is 00:34:40 No. Oh my God. He's Addy. I've seen him do it. And that's what's weird. That's hilarious. That's what's weird about it. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:34:52 It just really looks like datarade. Because my favorite flavor is lemon lime. Do you know what this conversation is reminding me of? What? Do you remember when we were in Hawaii and did, wait, was it me or you who would be in Hawaii? I actually think it was. Was that you? Did you pee at a coffee cup?
Starting point is 00:35:09 And coffee mug? In the car. We just had no other options. There was nowhere to go. I swear you was in a national park and there was no. It was in Volcano's National Park. That's the national park we were at. There's no other options.
Starting point is 00:35:21 This was in 2020. This was pre our Matt and Abbey TikTok page. Okay. So I guess I can't do a Gainte right bottle, but I can do a coffee mug. You have peed in a coffee cup before. I don't know how you did it. Was easier. In a rental car.
Starting point is 00:35:38 It was just. deserted. There is nothing. Wait, why didn't you just like pop a squat outside? Because it was public. Like, oh, that's why. People could have come by. I had to do it in the car. Yeah. Why are you putting my hair? So yeah, I think the road trip is going to go good for the first half.
Starting point is 00:35:57 I think the second half might get rocky. And actually, I think Tiny might pitch a fit. Oh, he's definitely going to pitch some fits. But then... This man does not like a car seat. What makes him different than our other babies is like sometimes he'll just have like a cry fit for like 10 15 seconds and he just stops. Like it's like he has some superpower. He just knows he just knows how how to self-soothe already. It's crazy. He's like, ah, ha, and then boom out.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Like it's like he just needed to let out that rage and then it's gone. He was also born a full man because he grunts instead of crying. Don't you? Wait, look how cutie is right now. Oh. Yeah. He's just pretty tall. Is he old enough to where he can see us?
Starting point is 00:36:41 Or is his eyesight still not really developed? He can see us. He stopped going cross-eyed so much. But is it all, is it in black and white? Like, can he see in color yet? I think that's a myth. Gosh, I forget. He's not a dog.
Starting point is 00:36:52 I like knew the answers to all of this. When I, like, the first time around, like we were doing our research and now I've kind of just forgot. Like, you know, we're just, he's going to grow up. He likes me. He likes me the best. of everybody. He does really like you. He's so cute.
Starting point is 00:37:12 Yeah, I think the road trip is going to be a little rough, especially because you have concert tickets that night. Yeah, okay, we got to roast my brother right now. So my brother, or is it, are we roasting our sister-in-law or my brother? Who bought the concert tickets for Thursday night? I think Abigail made me responsible for this. Okay, we're roasting Abigail. But I mean, is there, are there concert dates on Wednesday?
Starting point is 00:37:33 I don't know. Or on Friday? Basically. No, we're not going to roast her. She had the best. She's ambitious. Even though they had good intentions, Caleb and Abby purchased the concert tickets for Thursday night, which is the same day that we're driving down. So now we're going to drive, excuse me, we're going to drive over six hours to Newport.
Starting point is 00:37:54 And then. Not including all the stops for breastfeeding, which he takes like 45 minutes to eat. So it's probably going to be like a nine hour journey to Newport, including all the stops. And then we're going to have to, you know, unload, get into the house. and then drive like another what? Two hours almost. Another like two hours from Newport all the way up to it.
Starting point is 00:38:12 Is it the Hollywood Bowl? I'm just saying with traffic on a, on, and the evening, it could be two hours. Do we know where this concert is? With parking and stuff. The Hollywood Bowl.
Starting point is 00:38:21 Okay, the Hollywood Bowl. So yeah, it's after parking and traffic. Yeah, we're talking two hours to get to the Hollywood Bowl. Such a journey,
Starting point is 00:38:28 you know? Like, when you say you're going to southern California, like you kind of have to be specific for where you're going. I'm just scared to be alone with the kids
Starting point is 00:38:33 after a road trip day. Oh, we're not even going to be. going to be established. I feel so bad. I mean, it's going to be fine. We're going to survive. And then I guess, yeah, I guess the concert is at eight and we'll have to leave at six. So then I won't even really be able to help with bedtime then. No, you certainly won't. But I'll rope Abby in. You're going to, you're going to have Abby come to help you. Yeah, I mean, I've seen her kids go to bed. It's a whole different ballgame.
Starting point is 00:38:57 I admire her for it. They love to sleep. They love to sleep. Like, they, are they easy to go down for bed? Yes, they don't come out. Really? Our kids come out like, minimum five times a night. How do we knit that in the bud? What do we do about that? I don't know. I mean, I've tried to play tough on them. You know what we might need to do, babe. They just sniff my bluff. We might need to just mean what we say. And if they come out of their bedroom even one time, they don't get a show the next day. We've done that. But no, but you, I don't think so. Usually we give them, we give them one hall pass. Like we give them one time to come out, one warning. I think we might just need to say. I feel like it's usually valid. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:39:33 they want to drink of water. They got to go pee. they abuse it. They had a bad dream. They come out. They always have an excuse. Or they think of something that they, they forgot to tell me. And I'm like, that's valid. The excuses are creative. They're very good. See, they don't feel like excuses to me. I'm like, that makes sense. Having a bad dream, having to go potty. Sometimes they just come out just to say that they are having a hard time sweeping. They're like, I'm just having a hard time sweeping. And I'm like, I understand, man. That happens to all this. I'm like, you of all people should know that, Matt Howard. But I think, think I think it's like we're so lenient with them that then they just they just give us a run for our money.
Starting point is 00:40:11 No, it's fine. I feel like it's not a big deal. I like to see them. I feel like you grew up in a less strict household than I did. I did not grow up in a strict household. Wait, didn't your parents let you fall asleep with like Lilo? I watched Elf every single night to fall asleep for about two years. And I just wake up in the night going, bum, bum. Trisa could never.
Starting point is 00:40:34 Bum-B-Bum-Bum-Bum-B-B-W-W. Wait, were you watching Elf in the middle of summer? Why are you watching Elf? Do you know me? What? Like, it's nice to meet you. Wait, I thought this would have been like, I don't know, maybe in October. You don't watch it October, November, December.
Starting point is 00:40:49 You're watching it in June. You have Elf on in June. Of course. Here's the thing, Matt. I am consistent. I was literally in, like, third grade, watching Elf. every night to fall asleep. See, my rebel...
Starting point is 00:41:06 For you. Like a year. First of all, my parents would have never allowed that. But, but like... I had a TV in my room. My rebelling was like reading
Starting point is 00:41:14 the Percy Jackson books late at night. I did that too. To like midnight. I'd bring a flashlight in my room. See, my parents allowed that. Really?
Starting point is 00:41:22 Yeah. See, I'd ever told them. They just didn't know. No, they allowed that. Did you ever just think to ask? Uh, you know, they wouldn't have let me... You know what?
Starting point is 00:41:30 This actually explains something because neither one of us are strict parents. but I feel like you're more strict than me. Probably, probably, yeah. But it's pretty low bar. Yeah, I'm not, I'm not super... I don't say we have high expectations.
Starting point is 00:41:41 We have good kids. We don't need to be that strict. Yeah, I'm not super strict. They just, they do escape their room every single night and every single morning. Thank you to Nutraful for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. I am currently in the thick of postpartum, and this is not my first rodeo.
Starting point is 00:41:57 I know how my body goes through postpartum, and I can tell you that hair shedding is definitely part of, of that, especially around my temple line, right where it's most visible. Usually around three to four months is when I start noticing the most hair shedding, and that's when I rely on my Nutraful the most. I've used Nutriful for years now, and I really truly believe in them, and that's why I always want to give Nutraful to my friends in their postpartum journey. Starting point is 00:42:58 That's Nutraful.com spelled N-U-T-R-A-F-O-L-L-com promo code. Unplanned Pod. Yeah, I have started though. Like the one thing that I'm pretty strict on is like if one of our kids hits another kid or if they hit their brother. Like then it's just like, boom. They're gonna catch my wrath for that. It's like time out right away.
Starting point is 00:43:17 And is it okay, the whole the whole making time out that the amount of minutes that they are years old. Is that was that like from some like curriculum like where I learned that from you? Like where did we get? And I have no idea where I got that from. Where did we get that from? I don't know. I feel like we're scrapbooking our parenting style. Because now that we have a four-year-old, I'm like, you're in time out for four minutes because you're four.
Starting point is 00:43:39 Like, that's just what it is. And I told you that was too stern. You told me that was too. I'm like, we're just figuring out as we go. We take, wait, no, here, this is something we are very strict on as non-strict parents is how they treat each other. It's really important to me that they are nice to each other. I'm like, you are kind to everybody, but especially to your brother. I will say one caveat with parenting is like knowing when to lay down the law and knowing when like the situation just isn't right.
Starting point is 00:44:03 and you need to like split your kids up and change like the environment and that's what's going to fix the problem like sometimes you don't you don't need to like discipline in school and all this stuff it's really just your kid's just freaking tired you got to just put them in bed you know 1,000 percent like sometimes that's the problem and the quicker you can get them down for bed the faster you're going to have the problem solved yeah like you're just really tired and we're have grace for that but can you imagine if adults were like well they didn't I wish you did that To me when I started getting chirpy. They murdered somebody.
Starting point is 00:44:34 No, I just know that you're hungry. I'm like, have you eaten today? I'm like, when was the last time you ate food? Yeah, have you tried feeding me more often? But can you imagine if like if grownups were like, I was just like so tired. So I ended up like robbing the bank, you know? It's like so exhausted. And it just wasn't my fault.
Starting point is 00:44:53 That's ridiculous. They were tired. Only for kids. Yeah. I guess that's why we have different rules for. I mean, you don't get that even once you're even in like. Beyond nap taking age, basically. Okay, you need to film in more on this whole watching TV to fall asleep thing.
Starting point is 00:45:07 Like, when did that become a thing for you? When were you watching show, watching Elf to fall asleep at night? Was this before after you had insomnia as a kid? Before. So are you like seven? I mean, it's from my earliest memories, probably like first grade. You're in first grade, seven years old, falling asleep to Elf every night. Was there a TV?
Starting point is 00:45:28 Elf, I watched, did you have a TV in room? loaded. There was a TV in your room. Yes. That was like the, that was like the number one rule. My parents would never allow us to have a TV in our room. I don't think your parents like that we had a TV in our room for a period of time as married adults. Did we have a TV in our room initially? I thought we had our TV in the living room when we first got married. No, I'm talking about in our other house. Now I'm curious, since you had a TV in your room growing up, I didn't have a TV in my room growing up. I'm a better sleeper than you. Are we going to have TVs in our kids' rooms?
Starting point is 00:46:00 You don't like that? Well, they're just so little. I can't even, I don't know, maybe down the line. I feel like the question is less about TVs. Well, probably no, not with the internet now. It's more about devices and like iPads. Because I was playing an actual DVD. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:15 That feels different. I was playing Herbie fully loaded and Elf. Why does that feel? See, why does TV feel classic now? Like, TV almost feels like healthy. Like watching a movie doesn't feel bad when like scrolling social media. And that's what's sad. Is like not good.
Starting point is 00:46:30 And that's what's sad. Maybe we could let them take the portable DVD player with like Disney movies into the room. Maybe that's the move. Sure. You know, that could give them autonomy. Then they can choose. They do have DVDs. Didn't you make Blake sleep in your room with you when you were a kid?
Starting point is 00:46:43 Yeah, I did. You got sad if you slept alone. Yeah. I've always been a codependent person. I'm in therapy, so. You bought the portable DVD players for a road trip we did a year ago. Yeah, and then we got a car that has DVD players. So are we done using the DVD player, the portable DVD players?
Starting point is 00:46:59 Oh my gosh, remember that with VHS's? You had to rewind the tape To get to the beginning of it Gosh, our kids will never understand VHS Unless you get a VHS player Gosh, I remember when DVDs were like the new exciting thing Yeah, and then they got Blu-ray Yeah, and I was like, oh
Starting point is 00:47:17 Gosh, this shows our age I was excited because I bought off of Facebook Marketplace a Blu-Rae player for our first apartment together Remember that? We had rent movies from Family Video Oh my gosh And we put them on the Blu-ray player watching a RTV.
Starting point is 00:47:31 Remember that? That is true. Because they had, Family Video had like, streaming wasn't that big when we first got married. Oh, I mean, it was, it was big,
Starting point is 00:47:38 but, like, family video just had these deals where you could get a movie for, like, a dollar. Yeah. And this is, this is, like, 10 years after the Red Box came out.
Starting point is 00:47:46 So it was, like, does anybody still do Red Box? Is Red Box still around? No, Red Box is a streaming service now. Who, but why would you use Red Box? Like, does Red Box have originals? Maybe the movie you want to watch
Starting point is 00:47:57 on there is on Red Box. I have not. used that. Gosh, that was big. Like, Red Box wiped out Blockbuster. Isn't Redbox a streaming service now? They probably have one. I feel like Blake and Addy know everything TV and movies.
Starting point is 00:48:15 Well, like, Blockbuster was the big thing for the longest time. And then Redbox took Blockbuster out. And then I feel like... Red Box took Blockbuster out? Yeah, because people didn't want to have to go inside a Blockbuster store, spend way more money on a movie, and it was just a convenience thing.
Starting point is 00:48:32 You went to Blockbuster every Friday night. You could spend less money and get a movie faster on Ragbox than you would on Blockbuster. Yeah, we used to get free movies for our grades at Family Video. I used to get free donuts at Krispy Cream for my grades. So we didn't have Krispkins.
Starting point is 00:48:48 And free pizza at Pizza Hut. They had a special if you had stray days, you could get a free personal pizza. I know Teresa was on top of that. My mom knew all the deals for your grades. I love that. Dang. I wonder why they never like tried
Starting point is 00:49:02 to sell, you know? Or maybe they tried to and nobody wanted to buy them because they weren't really worth anything anymore. I feel like they could repurpose those machines. There's certainly something else you can rent. But I keep buying for you. I'm not tired. You're not talking. You literally gaslighting yourself. I'm not tired. And you know what it works. I feel good. I feel great. I literally hate my brain right now. I love your brain. No, I need it. I want someone to install a baby monitor in our pantry for how many times I walk in there and there's not a single thought in my
Starting point is 00:49:36 head. I just start standing there and I'm just like... You like can't remember why you went to the pantry? No. That happens to... I gotta be honest Matt, the brain fog is so bad. When I finally get your attention sometimes because it's kind of hard to get your attention, when I finally your attention, I get stage fright then.
Starting point is 00:49:52 And then I'm like... And then I can't even tell you what to do. I feel like I've been telling you what to do all the time. But then when I get your attention, I can't remember. I can't put to words what I need you to do. Here's what's hard about the stage of life we're in right now is like your, your plate is, you're maxed out. You're doing so much.
Starting point is 00:50:11 And then like, I don't want to compare myself to you because what you're, you know, postpartum as a mom if you just gave birth and you're breastfeeding all the time. Like there's no, there's no freaking comparison. But like, it's not easy as a dad, you know, handling three kids. One of them is a newborn and a dog and all the work responsibilities and like host. posting stuff at our house, like, we're both, we've got a lot on our plate and it's just like hard. It's a season of hard, but just knowing that it's going to get easier is I think what's really important to keep at the forefront of our minds.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Yeah, I'll get easier as soon as I have a functioning brain. This is temporary. Also, what you mentioned about going in the pantry and having a brain fart not knowing what you went into the pantry for, that's literally the story of my life. That happens to me all the time. Like, I'll go upstairs and I'll be like, why did I come up here? And then I go downstairs. and remember why I went upstairs and then and yeah and then sometimes it happens twice
Starting point is 00:51:05 and that's really annoying when it happens twice yeah it's a struggle should I just hold our baby I could just like give him a little butt tap he's just talking he's so vocal today he's moving he's moving a lot um yeah no my brain is not really firing right he doesn't really like sometimes he just likes his independence really yes we had a nap I I like uh He like napped on, he doesn't do that on me. He napped on my belly earlier today. It was kind of sweet. Okay.

Starting point is 00:52:53 Square today. Would you rather wake up for the 12 a.m. feeding or the 4 a.m. feeding? Um, we do both of them. I mean, just like recently, he's only been waking up once in the night. No, but if I was like, we're going to split the night up. I'm going to take the first half or the second half. Which one would you rather take? Probably the first. I get into deeper sleep as the night goes on. No, I just don't want the 4-A. one because it's harder to get him back to sleep. Yeah. That's what we were doing for that first, like, couple weeks. And I was up at four something. And I was like, that was criminal. I was just also so lonely the whole time Yeah And now we're tag team in it
Starting point is 00:53:33 He's only been waking up once recently I know yeah with with doing the dream feeding We've been dream feeding him every night at like 9 o'clock And then he only wakes up around like 3 o'clock We can't really count it as a dream feed If I'm totally honest because he's wide away for it Okay we give him we give him like a big old bottle at 9 o'clock Yeah and then and then yeah
Starting point is 00:53:52 And then give him an even bigger bottle at the one wake up Yeah Um your baby sleeps to the same the night for one week at six weeks old, but then not again until one year old. Or your baby never sleeps through the night until five months old. The second one. Obviously, is that even a question? Like that's just, of course you want. Well, I mean, sometimes maybe we could be experiencing this golden period right now with him. This is a golden period? No, we could. Like right now he's sleeping pretty good, but maybe he could. This is what I'm terrified for. The four-month sleep regression.
Starting point is 00:54:27 That's, yeah, that's not fun. I don't want to do that. I want to opt out of that one. However, we can do that. Because that's almost worse. I almost think waking up, or I, okay, this is my take. The four-month sleep regression is harder than fresh newborn. Where he's been so much easier than our past kids is he really doesn't wake up in the night other than to eat.
Starting point is 00:54:52 Because he doesn't take a binky, no binkie's falling out. Our past kid, like both of our boys. Our past kids. There's still our children. Yeah, our current children who are now three and four, bro, like, multiple times the night, just waking up, needing to be soothed back to sleep. Yeah, remember when Abigail said to us that she's never had to soothe her babies? I was like, what? I said, what do you mean?
Starting point is 00:55:13 What alternate planet are you on? She's like, yeah, unless they needed to eat or we're sick. Everyone just has a different experience. That is crazy. Would you rather change your newborn's poopie diaper or your two-year-old's poopie diaper? Definitely a newborn diaper. Yeah, his diapers are fun to change. They just don't even really smell and they're little tiny.
Starting point is 00:55:31 Only liquid. I mean, the only instance would be if they're peeing on my face, but like that doesn't really happen. He only peed on me once so far. I've only gotten peed on once. Okay, well. Wait. Have I gotten peed on once?
Starting point is 00:55:44 I've gotten peed on twice. I think I've been peed on like 20 times. Really? Yes, minimum. Okay. What I usually do is I just get all the farts and poops out. I just do all the leg maneuvers in the night so that he gets everything out before I take the diaper off. That's so jeez. Like, it's like a pre-diaper change routine that I do.
Starting point is 00:56:01 Would you rather go on a five-hour solo flight with your 10-month-old or a five-hour drive with your six-week-old? Definitely the drive with the six-week-old. Six-week-old is probably going to sleep the entire time. Ten-month-old, trying to fly with a 10-month-old is insane. It's the worst time to fly. I've logged, like last, when we've done that in the past with Augie, like he would be crawling up and down the aisles. I would be walking him, walking, throwing puffs in people's hair. And they're too young to care to like watch Miss Rachel. So they just like you just, I try to read them books.
Starting point is 00:56:34 Like it's it's like an entire hands on experience at that point. Yeah. A five hour flight with the 10 month old sounds like how. It's what it sounds like. Not like a time to fly. Would you rather have a baby who sleeps through the night but only naps for 30 minutes at a time? Or a baby that wakes up three times a night but takes two hour long naps. Probably the sleeping through the night.
Starting point is 00:56:56 One thousand percent. We are united. Sleeping through the night is just so much better. Wow, I totally agree. Yeah. We can, okay, you just got to master nighttime sleep. That's what, Adi, don't you agree? Or would you rather they take long naps?
Starting point is 00:57:11 Probably long naps. Crazy. At that point, you're working again. Yeah, I get it. See, but now we have, well, he's not in school. Our older boys are in school. I just get, I used to get so spooked by the nighttime wake-ups. Like, I was like, oh, I can't do it.
Starting point is 00:57:26 Yeah. Um, would you rather have a baby who smiles early or crawls early? Ooh, probably, uh, why do I think crawling? Like, I think the crawling is cool. Crawling is probably the worst baby stage. Really? I'm totally honest. But it's kind of fun to see them crawl around. It's like, wow, look at them go, you know? Yeah, it's fun when they're crawling at your house, when they're crawling on an airport floor and a public restroom. Then it's just like a fun, it's like fun entertainment, you know? No, then you're getting sick constantly. that's why you bring some
Starting point is 00:57:58 little wipes with you you can wipe your hands off I think crawling is the worst stage I think it's a great I'm so glad that they're doing it because it's good healthy normal development
Starting point is 00:58:07 but it is the most okay we're disagreeing on that one it keeps things interesting it does keep things interesting would you rather have an early walker or an early talker probably an early hmm
Starting point is 00:58:19 I'm gonna say early talker yeah early talker you want them I think it's the worst part about babies is that they can't tell us what they need I like to communicate with our kids. Yeah, it's really unlocked a whole new world.
Starting point is 00:58:29 If it's just one word, like conversations, like if they just say, I don't know. Golly, golly, golly, go. If they say that, yeah, that's cool. Like, I just feel like they're trying to say something to me. They want to connect with me, you know. I say that because that was our kids like first word. Golly, golly, golly, golly, golly.
Starting point is 00:58:47 Would you rather deal with a crying baby or a toddler throwing a tantrum? Probably the, um, um, uh, actually the toddler, toddler tantrum for me. You'd rather deal with that? Yeah, the crying baby noise just like gives me PTSD. Oh, really? I think it's like it's it kind of puts me into panic. I gotta be so honest with you. Our kids throwing tantrums does not phase me. Yeah. Yeah. And a crying baby doesn't phase me anymore. But like tantrums they don't. I don't know what it is, but the toddler tantrums just don't have anything on the newborn like cry, the screams for me. I can handle a tantrum any day.
Starting point is 00:59:25 I think, yeah, tantrums. I also feel like our kids are really easy to distract. Totally. Yeah. I can get their mind off of it pretty quick. Yeah. Would you rather have a C-section or deliver your baby on the side of the road if you were pregnant, Matt? If I was pregnant, probably a C-session.
Starting point is 00:59:46 Probably this, like, that sounds terrifying. If Matt was my OB, oh my. Also, like, that, I just like, thought about like the risk factors that scares me yeah having a baby on the side of the road so much can go wrong that also means i'm unmedicated yeah not doing that was you rather change your baby's blowout or a toddler's throw up a blowout i'm so afraid of puke see the problem with puke is it just like the blowout is contained usually on the clothes but but the puke just it could be on the carpet on a chair on the couch well then i'm also like i'm going to puke yeah and it smells so bad i'm afraid of throwing
Starting point is 01:00:25 blowouts are more manageable than puke you're right yeah blowouts no problem i cleaning up puke is one of my least favorite things to do why i'm so scared that's just like the dad's job i literally i think that's something that i will never get used to have you you've cleaned up you've cleaned up puke like once or twice right you've cleaned it up before i was literally a barf bag for our baby on a whole flight that's true we did we did through my bra that was awful and then our entire family got sick Yeah. That was a horrible vacation. That was a horrible.
Starting point is 01:00:56 That might go down as one of the worst trips we've ever had. And you know what? He was probably like, what, 10 months old? And then our car got stuck on the way to the airport and you were panicking. Wasn't stuck. The parking break was just on your dog. That's crap. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 01:01:12 Do not remind me. Do you now finally admit that that was the parking break? I guess. I mean, that was probably one of the worst vacations ever. We called the neighbors. Babe, okay, here's the thing, though. I think someone turned the parking break on while we were trying. We were boiling water.
Starting point is 01:01:28 We were pressing all the buttons on that car to get that car to get out. You. That was all you. That was crazy. Would you rather have a less than two-year age gap between your kids or more than two years? Both. Probably less than two, but not too much less. Like I'm talking like a month less than two.
Starting point is 01:01:52 What do you mean? just because then they're such they're so like they're such good buddies you know so you think the best age gap would hypothetically be 23 months maybe yeah maybe okay 23 month age gap is the perfect age like my brother and i are 19 months apart and then griffin and oggy are 13 months apart and the closer you are in age i think the closer you end up being to each other like Caleb and I were like we we you know hang out again but like when we were kids like we did everything together So I think it's really sweet That's sweet
Starting point is 01:02:25 Really sweet when you can have that like close Yeah I will say Two under two has a range within it Like if you're 202 for one month Versus two under two for 11 months Yeah It's pretty different Big difference
Starting point is 01:02:38 Even I think 18 months would even be pretty good Yeah Get to 18 months I'm yawning but I'm not tired You're not tired Yeah It's all it's made up Yeah
Starting point is 01:02:49 When did you learn to Who talks you to like say stuff like I'm not sick or I'm not tired I don't know would you say it's more your mom or your dad probably my dad your dad yeah my dad is never sick he doesn't he doesn't miss work your dad's a great employee he's never sick if anybody wants to hire abby's dad he uh does not not he's completely employed right now he will never miss a day of work no he could probably use a new job so keep your feelings out no um when i remember blake took a sick day when he was working remote and my dad was like you're working remote like why can't how are you gonna be sick well that's what i and then blake was
Starting point is 01:03:30 like i took my temperature and i have a fever he's like you're an adult why are you taking your temperature but see that's how i felt when you what he's scared he's very he's very jumping when you wanted me to cancel all my meetings on friday i was like babe like i i got the i that just really trick or something i This is from my dad. I got the ick big time when you took your temperature as an adult. I was like, you were a grown man. Wait, when did I take? I did not take my temperature.
Starting point is 01:03:55 I've seen you have that little thermometer on your head before. And I'm like, that is for the children. When was that? Put that thing away. Okay. You're saying you've never taken your temperature with nothing. I probably have. At some point in the past four years.
Starting point is 01:04:12 That was icky. Never do that again. Well, I will never, I'll never do that. I'm a little worried about being trapped in a car for... Actually, okay, I'm excited. I'm excited to be trapped in a car with our whole family for the whole day, two days in a row. I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic.
Starting point is 01:04:32 I can't either, honestly. I think it could go really good or really bad. Here's the thing. We have road tripped with, like, a baby that's one, like, six weeks old with each kid. Because I don't like flying with them until they, have like all their all the shots yeah three months I think it's three months I get like a lot of vaccines vaccines um so I don't like that until so but I still want to I'm itchy to travel
Starting point is 01:04:58 yeah and road tripping feels like a good way to like dip your toes in and get used to like get out of the house and get a little get a little the stir craziness out but I'm a little worried about it I'm excited to go to the beach I'm excited for some cooler weather it's been so hot still. I'm sick of the heat here. Even in September, I'm like, how is it? That's what he needs. He needs to get outside. But he can't be outside when it's like over 100. I'm excited to take the boys to Super Mario World or Super Nintendo World, I think is the official name. Our kids love Mario. They've never, I don't think they've been. I think maybe we like walked through it when we went to Universal like two years ago. But I think they were just too young to like really remember. They have no
Starting point is 01:05:42 idea. So this will be like their first time. They're going to have so much fun going with their uncle and cousin too. Oh yeah. Well, because. we went to go see the Super Mario movie with my brother and my nephew like a couple months ago. So like the movie's fresh on their mind. We've even played Mario on our switch with them. Like they love the they love Mario cart. Yeah. So I think like all things Mario just they're right up their alley right now. That'll be really fun. Yeah. What are we going to do on like on Saturday? Because right now the game plan is Thursday night concert, John Bellion, Friday. Friday. Friday. is going to be Super Nintendo World. Saturday, what are we going to do that? The beach, I guess. Go to the beach with the kids? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:24 And then Sunday we drive back. Yeah. That's a quick trip. Yeah. That's going to be really fast. I wish we had another day. We can add another day. Should we add another day?
Starting point is 01:06:34 I don't know. The Airbnb was pretty expensive. I don't know. Newport is pricey. We're driving all that way. I'm like, might as well add another beach day in. Newport is so expensive. It is expensive.
Starting point is 01:06:46 I just need to work out again. and then I can clear my head. That is what it's a bummer. I have like a, I've got a workout street going right now, and it's going to, I'm going to break it because you can go on a run. I know,
Starting point is 01:06:55 but I won't be able to lift. Like the reason I've been gaining muscle is from lifting, so I won't be able to lift when we're driving Thursday. You've been getting a lot bigger. Thanks. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:04 I've been lifting really hard. And taking creatine. Do you think that helps? Oh yeah. Creatine, protein, all that helps. Try to some creatine. Sure.
Starting point is 01:07:14 I was actually shocked when I went to your gym. Like, yeah, they promote creatine. They're like, take your creatine, take your protein. Well, mostly for recovery. I didn't know that a lot of moms were doing creatine these days. I didn't know that until I went to your gym.
Starting point is 01:07:26 I actually don't know if you can do it while you're breastfeeding, so I'm probably going to wait. I don't know, can you? Oh, I guess you can. I just know that you need to drink a lot of water when you take creatine because creatine. I thought you were to say when you're breastfeeding. I'm like, yes, you do. But with creatine, it can mess you up if you don't drink enough water and you're taking it. Is it bad for your liver?
Starting point is 01:07:44 Probably. Let me tell you, the thirst when you're breastfeeding, I know people talk about it all the time. Here's what I don't understand. I get thirsty the minute he latch or the second he latches, not when I have a letdown. Like it just immediately hits. It's like I got caught in mouth.
Starting point is 01:07:58 It's crazy. I just need someone to remind me when you look in, like the feeling that you have postpartum when you look in the mirror. Addie, did you get this when you were postpartum? When you looked in the mirror, you didn't quite feel like you like recognize yourself. Just even your face. Like I think I'm going to not recognize my own face until I'm down breastfeeding.
Starting point is 01:08:17 I'm not kidding. You know, well, that's sad. You don't feel like you recognize yourself? It's not sad. It's just like, it's a weird feeling. Like, I look at my face and I'm like, I'm pretty sure that's me. Postpartum is like you just feel like you're a newborn baby
Starting point is 01:08:29 and also taking care of a newborn baby. Same time. Well, you guys, thanks for tuning in for another episode of Unplanned. We so appreciate you being here and sticking with us all these years of our show. And we'll see you next time. Peace.
