On everybody, welcome back to another exciting episode of the Valfa's reality recap edition.
I'm your host, Nick, joined by my wonderful, gorgeous, sexy wife, Natalie.
It's just us right now.
We got Susie coming up later this episode.
It's a wonderful guest.
Very excited for you guys to listen to her.
Wendy McLendon Covey is with us.
You know her from St. Dennis Medical.
You also brought her from the Goldbergs, Reno 911, bridesmaids, a very talented, funny.
actress. She is with us to talk all things about her career, but she's also a massive reality TV
and Housewives fan. So we're very excited to have Wendy later this episode. Lots to get into,
but I wanted to start with very devastating news. Gypsy Rose, you know her, everyone knows
who she is, you know her from the show as well, but her partner Ken sadly passed away last,
I think Thursday. She quickly came out with a statement, which I think we have.
But like my first fear was like, oh, no, what are people going to say?
Obviously, Gypsy was involved in the murder of her mother, served time for that.
Lots of thoughts and feelings around Gypsy Rose.
But, you know, we had the opportunity to interview Ken and Gypsy when they were expecting
their daughter Aurora.
And it's just really just devastating to see this happen.
But she put out a statement and honestly, it made me even more sad about the situation.
She wrote, I don't know if it was intentional or not.
He was not in a good state of mine lately.
I'm in disbelief.
I can't think. I've screamed until my throat burns.
He endured an unimaginable level of public scrutiny and relentless cyberbullying across social
media platforms. The cruelty directed toward him was something no human beings should have to endure.
I believe the tremendous weight of that scrutiny and harassment had a profound impact on him.
And I hope his passing serves as a reminder that there is a real person behind every screen,
every headline, and every comment.
He was an amazing father and a man who was deeply loved.
He will forever be my soulmate and my red string, a connection that
time, distance, and even death can never erase. Above all, Ken loved our daughter Aurora. She is a beautiful
reflection of his enduring spirit. And through her, a part of him will always remain with us. I will make
sure she grows up knowing how deeply her father loved her and who he was beyond what strangers on the
internet chose to say about him. There are no words that can express the depth of this loss.
I ask for privacy and compassion for our daughter, our families, and everyone grieving
Ken during this incredibly painful time who will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Yeah, I mean, you know, again, I didn't really know what to expect from what she would say. I mean, we all know that obviously a lot of people had thoughts and feelings about Gypsy and everything surrounding her. And we talked a little bit with Ken and Gypsy about this when we had them on the show about just the scrutiny that they face. And obviously, he faced as someone who's chosen to be with Gypsy who, you know, has the past that she has. We hear about this all the time about how the internet and internet bullying and how it can affect kids and things like that. But it's just so sad. And obviously, they have a young.
daughter. I'm definitely sending all our love and thoughts and prayers to their daughter and their families.
Yeah. It's terrible. And I hope, you know, I hate, I hope people will be kind and not do the whole,
like, true crime thing, which people sometimes too often do. But, yeah, just echoing what Natalie said,
just sending all I love in this very difficult time. It was, that's really sad. I mean, it's,
it's weird to think that we had someone on the show that's no longer with us. Yeah. It's really devastating.
We're weird to transition from something that's so hard, but we'll do our best.
I don't know if many of you have seen or heard, but Chris Harrison, former Bachelor host,
is coming out with his own new reality TV show.
Is he the, do we know if he's like the executive producer?
Is he just the host?
He is an executive producer and host.
He's an executive producer and host.
Well, apparently, the good people at Warner Brothers sent the Chris or whoever, you know,
Fox Nation.
sent Fox Nation.
A cease and desist, which is a little funny and kind of meaningless.
Because, like, yeah, they definitely can make this show.
I don't know what the Warner Brothers thought they would do.
And it also just seems like they're just promoting it now in a weird way.
Which is funny because it kind of reminded me way back when my dear friends,
Ashley and Jared, wanted to do like a Bachelor spin-off, like a little React TV show.
we did a YouTube series.
It was like Ashley and Jared and Jade and Tanner.
I tagged along a little bit.
And we did this like YouTube series.
And they called it the Rosebuds,
which I didn't love the name to begin with.
But when we dropped that episode,
they also sent us a cease and desist
because they thought that was,
you know,
I guess too close to,
I guess,
whatever they were doing.
Because we had the Rosebud name in it.
So they changed the name,
whatever.
But apparently like the Bachelor franchise owns the word,
Rose or something like that.
And while I'm not necessarily in the business of celebrating or promoting Chris Harrison,
it is kind of funny that the Banscher franchise, which is not even on the air,
and I don't know what's happening with the branch or franchise, but like I don't know why
they're going out of the way to promote a project that Chris Harrison is doing.
It's also like looks like such a low budget production and like it just doesn't look.
Also what is Fox Nation?
No idea.
But it's like, yeah, it's like definitely not going to be a good show.
So Bachelor didn't need to do this.
like it wasn't going to perform numbers.
No doubt, yeah.
But like no doubt the people at Fox Nation are ones who are making this public, right?
Probably.
The cease and assist because they want us, you know, everyone talking about it.
They want it in the news headline.
They want you to think that the Bachelor franchise is afraid of the success that Chris Harrison might have.
Yeah.
But they sadly played into his hands.
I don't know.
I still want to figure out what they're going to do with the next Bachelor franchise
because I've heard that they're planning on making one.
early in to early next year.
But I don't know what they're going to do
in terms of finding their lead.
Well, when Warner Brothers sent the cease-sendesis,
they flagged three similarities,
one being obviously the red roses.
They say, Warner Brothers says
that the roses are one of the bachelors
most recognizable and central symbols.
The second is the mansion.
According to Warner Brothers,
a preview image for the VAL
features a mansion that appears designed
to resemble the iconic Bachelor mansion.
And third, the screenshot
Shots, Warner Brother included side-by-side stills from the Vow's trailer in past seasons of The Bachelor as examples of what it claims was copied.
Yeah, but it's so vague.
Basically, a flower and a house.
First of all, the best are mansions not a mansion.
It's a house.
Okay, but also, like if Chris Harrison, their previous host, is who got fired and obviously has a bad taste in his mouth with that show.
Sure.
tries to do the only thing he knows how to do, which is host that show on a different platform.
it is very similar.
Of course it's going to be similar,
but like how are they going to, you know,
a lot of shows like mimic and copy
the things like The Bachelor does.
Bachelor in Paradise tried to copy Love Island
this past season, you know,
with some of the stuff that they were doing.
I guess,
but I guess I see where Warner Brothers is coming from.
They're like,
you're not going to get away with this one, Chris.
But he is, though.
You know what I'm saying?
It's just a cease and assist.
It's basically a threat.
If you go forward with this,
we're going to sue you,
which I don't think they have much of a case.
And I'm sure the Fox's lawyers anticipated this
when they were promoting it and making the show.
And certainly the Warner Brothers people want to protect their IP,
but it just seems like a silly, you know,
Chris has proven to be petty over the years
since being fired from the Bachelor franchise.
And them sending him in his team or whatever, Fox,
this cease and desist seems to play into their hands
of trying to get that buck,
was. Yeah. I guess we'll see. How was the field trip today, by the way?
River went on her first field trip today. And her whole class was there. Obviously, they were like,
parents, bring your kids. Like, we're not in charge of them. We are going to do a class,
hayride at 1045. So be there for that. It was so cute. It was like literally Rivers heaven.
There were goats, horses, cows, pigs, alpacas, donkeys, miniature horses that you could pet.
feed. All of the other kids were like, you know, nervous or, I don't know, skeptical of the animals.
River was just like walking right up with her little flat hand feeding all of the animals and kissing
them and petting them. And she just had so much fun. And then there was, which I've never seen
this before, it was the most wild thing ever. There was like a massive bird cage that you can go into.
They give you these like sticks with seeds stuck to them and you just hold the sticks.
out and all of these birds just come and like land on you and eat the stick they were I was like
covered in birds and river they landed on her a few times but she wanted to pet them as soon as they
landed on her so they'd fly away um but it was she thought it was the coolest thing ever and it was so
fun I don't want to buy a bird I don't want to buy a bird either that's like the worst pet
to have I feel like sorry bird people I don't want to buy a bird either and then we we did a class
hay ride and then there was like one of those big potato sacks like slides you know where you
sit on a potato sack and you.
It's like tube or pipe.
I don't know what it's made out of plastic or something.
We did that a million times.
And then we got to pick her own pumpkin and I got her an apple cider slushy and it was so
good.
Apple cider slushy.
It was delicious.
It was so good.
And we drove home and that was it.
But she had so much fun.
Did you meet any of her friends?
I did.
I met two of her friends, I think.
And their parents.
Are they cool?
I met their parents.
Very sweet.
Very cool.
Exchange some numbers.
Talked about some play dates.
All of the fun things.
But it's so interesting because they acted like they had no idea who they were.
Like River.
River did not.
And her friends, like they did not talk to each other.
What do you mean?
They did not talk to them.
How do you know they were friends?
Because her teacher was like, oh, and here's her friend, whatever.
And I was like, oh my gosh, she talks about, you know, to her mom.
I'm like, she talks about her all the time.
She's like, oh, my God, she talks about River all the time.
and I'm like, River, look, like, there's your friend.
He was like, and then their kid didn't say anything to River.
I was like, are you all sure?
I don't know.
They just were shy when the parents were around.
Maybe they were distracted by the animals.
Maybe they were.
I'm very interested, yeah, because any of these people think we could be friends with?
Yeah, I think we could be friends.
I only met the moms.
And I was honestly shocked.
It was all parents there.
I was certain that there was going to be just, because it's on a Friday, Friday morning.
I'm like usually kids are in school.
I was certain I was going to meet all of the nannies and babysitters.
But I met every parent was like there.
And majority of them also had 14.
And like because River doesn't go every day is every,
do some of the kids go every day?
Some kids are five days a week.
Some kids are three days a week.
And then some kids are two days a week, Tuesday, Thursday, you know.
So it's like she met a really cute little girl who sat beside us on the hayride.
And her teacher was like, yeah, she's in my class too, but she's on the Tuesdays and
Thursdays.
And I was like, oh my gosh, so they don't even like know that they exist.
Yeah, next time you're going to have to come.
Any of the both parents come?
Yeah, there was a lot of people there with the dads.
Some women were like, I asked my husband to come and he said absolutely not.
Okay.
I had to work.
No, I know.
You do.
In River, they gave you little like admission wristbands, like little plastic wristbands.
Yeah, she didn't want to take it off.
No, she thinks it's the coolest thing ever.
She was like, I had my bracelet and matches and mama and mine's orange.
When I part of the bed, she, oh, yeah.
turn that she wanted to keep it on.
Yeah, I will, I'm curious to know how long that's going to last.
I think will last for 100 years.
No, I know, but how long until she just forgets about it and I can rip it off in the bathtub?
Like I do her band-aids.
You know.
That's true.
Well, to get into more fun and exciting things, our first guest is coming up.
Wendy McLendon Covey is with us.
Again, you know her from St. Dennis Medical.
Season 3 comes out November 2nd, but she was also on the hit show, The Goldberg.
She's from Reno 911.
She was in Bridesmaid.
She's absolutely hilarious and a big Bravo fan.
So we talk with her about all that fun stuff and so much more.
And she's up next.
And then coming out of Wendy,
we'll get into some Real Housewives of Salt Lake City as well
and then wrap things up from there.
Wendy, welcome the show.
Thank you so much for having me.
We're so excited to have you.
We're all big fans of you.
I wanted to, do you remember meeting me like 12 years ago,
13 years ago?
at the up front, the ABC up front, I was the bachelor at the time.
And you came up to me, you were very nice.
And you made me feel quite at home.
Anyways, it was a long time ago.
I remember just because, like, you know, at the time, I was like, I was the bachelor.
I didn't know much about obviously this whole space.
And it was like people like you and all these like really cool people at ABC.
And I remember being really nervous.
And you just came, I forgot what you said, but you came up to me and you were very gracious and nice.
Oh, that's so nice.
So nice.
Hello again.
Yeah, it's good to see you.
But for the audience at home, the up fronts are like where you pimp out your new shows.
Yeah, yeah.
I shouldn't say pimp.
But that's what they're doing.
Yeah, they bring in like all the talent, you know, of the network.
And it almost feels like, speaking of petting zoo, like everybody kind of walks past you and kind of inspects you.
And you shake hands and say hello to the advertisers and whatever.
It's all very odd.
Yeah.
And, you know, if you're not in the world, it just feels like, why, why am I doing this?
This is so stupid.
Yeah, and I really wasn't in the world, but it was like, for me, I was just like, oh, all these,
like, I know all these people.
I recognize all these people.
And it was this kind of, but I was kind of a fish out of water.
And I was excited to meet you.
So, so here.
Well, look at you now.
You're king of the world.
Hardly.
But, you know, it's funny because I remember, I don't know who, I don't know who.
I don't know who I was talking to.
I was like standing by myself at like some table just kind of like, I don't know what I
do next and kind of taking it all in.
And one of the one of the talents at ABC was like, you know, because I'm sure for you,
you've done it a million times, I'm sure it's kind of a grind.
And they were kind of like, yeah, isn't this thing kind of, you know, kind of lame?
And I'm like, I don't know, man.
This is pretty cool for me.
And I just, I had this kind of self-awareness that I like, I'll probably never as the ABC,
the Bachelor be as recognizable.
Like I, you know, like, I don't know where my career is going to go from here.
I don't know if I'm ever going to do anything in this space.
So I just, I remember like really taking it in just because I was like, I may never be invited
to something like this again.
I've never been to an up front again.
So there was that.
But, um, but yeah, it was a memorable moment.
So thanks for being a part of it.
Yeah.
Oh, my goodness.
Look at that.
Thanks for remembering that.
Well, you know.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
It's kind of nice.
When you're like, treat somebody, obviously, we should always,
treat everybody very well.
But when you go out of your way to make somebody feel comfortable, who doesn't,
and then it comes back 12 years later, like, hey, like, you really were that person.
It's like, that's kind of some good karma coming back your way, you know?
Shout out to you.
I receive it.
Yeah.
Thank you.
You've obviously had like a really, like, well, first of all, long and fantastic career.
And I just say long, just because I feel like in this business, it's, that's the hardest thing
is to stick around, right?
Sometimes people have luck with a moment.
but you've been able to obviously to keep this career going.
What do you think it is, I guess, about what you've been able to do that has allowed you to stay busy and working in this space for as long as you have?
Well, you're asking a good question and it's something I think about all the time.
Like, wow, how did I get so lucky?
Because it's tough right now, especially.
And one thing I think is that I listen and I pay attention and I know my place.
So I don't try to sell myself as something that no one is ever going to buy.
You know what I mean?
I'm a character actress.
So I stay in that lane.
And I think I have a good picker of projects, you know?
Yeah.
And I work my ass off.
That's another thing.
Like I, while other people might say, oh, I made all this money, I'm going to go on vacation
or I'm going to take some time off.
I don't take time off.
I do not take time off.
So there you go.
You often play on the Goldbergs, for example,
like you've played a mom a few times with roles,
and you play it so well,
these kind of corky moms.
And I think you were quoted by saying,
like, you played all these moms,
and like it's almost been like kind of like
the confirmation that you yourself,
like, didn't want to have kids with your husband.
I'm just curious,
someone who's chosen not to have kids,
how is it that you play a mom as well as you do?
Because it's like you find the essence,
of like the middle America kind of mom that like, you know, people laugh with, you know,
and all the corks of motherhood. Like, you know, as someone who didn't do it herself, how is it that you
do, you play one like so well. Like you would think that like, you know, you have your own like army
of kids, but. Well, I have a really good mom myself. Okay. But, you know, she was kind of a kook as well.
And I love her so much. She lives, you know, three miles from me. But,
I always found her hilarious. And if I ever did have kids, I would be just as overbearing as my mom was. Overbearing and religious. So that's how I was raised. But she was so funny and still is so funny to me that, look, all any good mother does is act first and apologize later.
You are there to keep your kids safe.
Alive, yeah.
And demand excellence from everyone around you when it comes to your kid.
And so that's just ripe for comedy, you know.
So, yeah, but I knew from an early age that I did not want children because I resented being given baby dolls as a kid.
What did you want?
You just saddled me with a bunch of work.
Yeah, no, literally.
What did I want?
I wanted, like, high heels.
and makeup and also a dump truck.
Like, I wanted to do things.
I did not want to change diapers.
That was not my jam.
I just wanted to be a glamorous, like, truck driver
or champion disco dancer.
Period.
There's a trend right now on social media
that's, like, as a little girl,
I didn't want to, like, play house
or do my fake marriage.
Instead, I was, like, playing diva,
and I was the rock star.
And it's like, and then it speaks to what their career is right now.
And I'm like, that's literally you.
Yeah, you should do that trend.
Exactly.
Or Pippi Longstocking.
That was my favorite hero of fiction growing up was Pippi Longstocking.
She had superhuman strength, her own horse, a chest full of coins, and no parental supervision.
I know that's right.
That's our girl.
What's not to love?
No, literally.
Do you have a favorite role you've played or do you kind of have an affinity for all of them?
I have an affinity for all of them, but I sure did love playing Beverly Goldberg.
And I loved playing Liz on Rules of Engagement, who was like this crazy cat lady neighbor,
who was very unlovable, but always like looking for love and never finding it because no one was good enough,
but she was such a disaster.
It was very fun.
Love that.
Yeah.
What is it about those characters that you're like, Fonda?
What is the thing?
I love playing my inner thoughts.
Love.
Okay.
Okay.
I guess that's the best way to say it.
Like a safe space.
Yeah.
I love playing weirdos.
I don't need to be the lead as long as I can have the laughs.
You know what I mean?
Absolutely.
When you're like doing a scene, can you feel it like when you've stolen a scene, so to speak,
where you're like, you know, like you said, like as a character actor,
you know, like sometimes you're not the lead, but like, you know, we have so many favorite
character actors when like they do a scene that they're really taking over. Can you tell that's
happening in the moment or do you have to kind of wait to the final cut? You can tell in the moment,
like if the guy's holding the boom, Mike, start laughing or have to turn their head away or
excuse themselves. Yeah, that's a good, that's a good sign. That's my dream feeling. Yeah.
Like if I could go to bed feeling that way every night, I'd be like, yeah, this is a good day.
Oh gosh. I love that. I love that. I love that.
that on St. Dennis, I just love our sound department because when they start laughing,
it's like, yes, nailed it.
Got him.
I love it.
That's awesome.
There's an iconic internet clip, the traffic stop, that I've seen for so long.
I did not, my team was like, oh, she's the cop in that one.
I didn't, like, I've watched Redo 9-1-1, I've seen it, it's been around for a while,
but I guess for whatever reason I didn't put two and two together.
that is one of the funniest clips on the internet, period.
Because when it first came out, like, that with the beauty of it is everyone thought it was real.
Yes, they did.
And that is disturbing.
Right.
That is very upsetting.
And the fact that it's still circulating 24 years later.
Yeah, you'll still pop up.
And people still send it to me.
Someone sent it to me the other day and said,
you should parody this.
And I said, you're kidding, right?
No.
Well, that is me.
Wow.
Oh, oh, I didn't know that.
Wait, that's crazy.
But yeah, like, it keeps getting sent to me like I've never seen it.
But also that speaks to like kind of what comedy is, at least in my mind, like comedy, a lot of it is just like making, recreating reality.
Oh, yeah.
And like laughing at.
what is already true and already exists.
So the fact that it's circulating and people believe that it's real,
I think that just speaks to like how good that was.
Like how well done it.
I mean, was that written or was a lot of the improv?
No.
All of Reno was improv.
Impropped.
Yeah, yeah.
His, I'm like so, I'm so obsessed.
I'm like, I'm just, I'm so happy.
Well, I'm glad it turned out well because sometimes those things don't.
Yeah.
But that's fair.
But that turned out pretty well.
And Cedric Yarborough was the cowboy.
So the cop on Reno, that was the cowboy.
And I don't think a lot of people understand that.
Like, we always did double roles.
Wait, oh my gosh.
Yeah.
He was the guy in the same skit.
Dancing, yeah.
The dancing cowboy.
Like, we are so dumb as people.
Potta beret.
Because he's a dancer too.
You know, he had a musical theater background and he can dance.
He can sing.
He's full service.
This is why theater kids are the best.
Like, we get made fun of growing up.
But then when you become an adult, it's like, we're well-rounded, honey.
Yes, exactly, because you never know when you're going to need to break out into song.
You never know.
Or you never know when you're going to need a costume.
And we have them in our trunk.
I was about to say, I have got a whole, I've got two whole bins of them.
Of course.
I do have a collection of wigs.
You just don't know.
Good for you.
I had a phase.
That's good parenting.
And you did groundlings for like nine years.
Is that right?
I, let's see, I started there in 1997, got into the company in 2001 and stayed till 2009.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Wow.
That's really cool.
And do you feel like that?
That was before Reno?
Or was that during?
That was, I got Reno right as I got into the company.
Okay.
Yeah.
Right as I was about to give up.
Oh, that's right.
Okay.
Yeah, we've done some research.
I'm curious.
Like that is my, it's my favorite story to hear from people when they're like, I was on the cusp of going home or leaving L.A. or whatever the thing is, like changing my career. And through our research, we found out that was like right when you were kind of like tapping out on acting and then you got Reno 911.
Yeah.
Can you talk us through like what that feeling was like and why you were ready to give up and then that redemption of it all?
Sure.
Yeah, I had been taking class at the groundlings and working in the Sunday company and, you know, for those who don't know.
at the Groundlings, they have a main company, but they have a Sunday company, which is like the
farm team. So you're writing all the time and doing a show every Sunday and trying out
material, but they vote on you. And you either go up or you say goodbye. So I had just gotten in,
but I didn't have an agent. I didn't have, well, I had a manager who was, you know, useless,
but I was just spinning my wheels
and I would go to the theater
and I'm listening to my friends talk about
different auditions that they went on
or jobs that they'd booked
and I'm like, I'm not even getting the chance.
Yeah.
Maybe I'm too old at 32, you know.
Maybe I should just pack it in.
But I at least have this.
I at least got into the company.
I'll never stop doing this.
I can't.
My life is too fun now that I have this.
But maybe it's time to pack it in.
Well, someone scouted me at a show, brought me in for Reno, and the rest is history.
But no one knew what that was going to be.
I mean, it's just a basic cable show.
No one thought it was, and it didn't pay any money.
That's crazy.
You know, I was still working my real job.
Okay.
And worked that until, yeah, I was editing a social work journal on the campus of Cal State Long Beach, which I kept.
until I got the Goldbergs. But anyway. Wow. Yeah. So all through Reno. All through lots of other
things. How common is that with other actors in your space? Is that more like something that's
pretty common that people don't talk about or were you fairly unique in that? Because I feel like
a lot of people don't like to do both. Yeah. A lot of people don't like to do both, but you have to do
both if you want to pay your bills. Sure. You know, and I like eating and having my rent paid.
So, and I wasn't going to put that all on my husband to support all this nonsense because what if it never went anywhere?
So, yeah, I kept my job for a long time and that's called being a responsible adult.
And it was weird, though, because I would go into work and drop off what I was doing and people are like, are you on a show?
Are you?
Like, are you?
Are you famous?
Talk about humble.
Yeah, and I was like, yeah, I do.
Look, I just had a 20-hour-a-week job.
It was part-time.
I could do it anywhere.
Why would I give that up?
That's stupid.
But anyway, yeah, so I did that for a while.
And other actors have done it.
There's no shame in it.
You should definitely not be ashamed to.
No, it's actually super, like, it's cool to hear about, like, Susie said.
It's like, it really.
It's inspiring, honestly.
Yeah.
You know, I'm always looking for, like, you know, when you're, you know, someone who has
employees.
What's the thing that kind of separates people and that kind of willingness to do?
Like you do what you have to do type of thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And it makes it, you know, just, yeah, it's, it's very honorable.
Did you ever mention that like when you were in auditions in terms of like trying to separate
yourself?
Or was it always just like, you know, let the town speak for itself?
I never mentioned it.
Okay.
There's no reason to, you know.
But there were times when I was in my dressing room, editing manual.
manuscripts or on a press tour and I'd come home or come back to my hotel and edit manuscripts.
And the great thing about that job is because it was about social work, it was very humbling
and very much like, yeah, this is what's important.
You get to play in La La Land, but these are people doing real things and actually helping
the world.
They're not spoiled brats like you are.
But anyway, so it was, I'm glad I got to do that.
But then the journal eventually folded and it made sense.
How did you meet your husband?
We met at Golden West College in Huntington Beach and we were in a communications class, like interpersonal communication.
Oh, interesting.
Yeah.
So it was like one of those required classes that you had to take.
Yeah.
And we were like the bad kids in the class because we just could.
couldn't stop passing notes and making each other laugh.
But, you know, we've been communicating interpersonally for 33 years.
Yeah, it worked out.
Yeah.
Great class.
Is he funny like you?
He's so much funnier.
Really?
He's such a love bug.
Oh.
Yeah.
When you met him, were you always like, hey, I want to be an actor and I want to try my
hand in entertainment?
Yes.
Yes.
Was he super supportive of that?
Or was he like, well, no one ever makes it.
He was the only one who was supportive.
So I didn't really get going in earnest until I got married and left my parents' house.
Because I stayed there, you guys.
I didn't leave home until 26.
She saved on that rent.
Which is...
She was saving up.
Just as nerdy as can be.
But that's what I did.
Yeah, I never moved back.
Yeah, there you go.
And I never asked for money.
There you go.
Did he ever kind of help you develop some characters?
I know you developed Deputy Clementine and Steed at the Groundlings.
Did he help with that at all?
Greg helped me learn all my lines, helped me write.
Not right, but like I would try things out on him and he'd say that was not funny at all.
You know?
Or you could have had a better show.
But this really worked.
Like, he was very honest and I love that.
Yeah.
I love that.
I'll take it from him because he has only good.
Intentions.
Good intentions.
Yeah.
He's not there to be in.
competition. He's there truly to be helpful. Yeah. So, yeah, I love him. He, I would have nothing
if he didn't believe in me. Do you guys love a bit together? Like, do you guys ever, like,
have like a schick, you know? I don't think so. Okay. But you know what? You ask a good question.
Maybe we do little things and I'm not, we're so into it that we don't even realize we do it.
Well, I was, I'm like pulling from experience here where I'm like,
Like my favorite relationships are ones where like we're always doing a bit, you know?
Like there's always just like the joke keeps going.
You're in character.
And I'm like, who am I anymore?
I'm talking.
I've lost myself.
Yeah, I've lost myself.
But in like the best way, you know.
You know what?
Yes, I guess we do do that.
Yeah.
But it's just your reality now.
It's just, yeah.
We don't even notice it.
And we're kind of in the era of reboots.
Everyone's trying to like think about what's the next one to reboot.
If you could have reboot or reprise any role that you've played.
in the past, which one do you think it would be?
I think anything I've played in the past, it's too soon to reboot.
Even Reno?
We did a Reno reboot, and I don't think enough people know about it.
Oh, really?
Yeah, I didn't know.
Because we did it during COVID.
Oh.
But do you remember when Quibi was a thing?
Yes, for like two days.
And they were, yeah, they were buying everything.
Well, we got to do a reboot because of that.
So I think all those newer episodes live on the Roku channel, maybe.
Or Paramount.
We knocked out two more movies.
Whoa.
I love that.
Look.
Nobody knows about this.
Yes.
Oh, my God.
I'm going to go check it out.
It's a wonderful heist, which is a Christmas-themed movie.
And Reno 9-1-1, The Hunt for QAnon.
Are you serious?
Which took place on a cruise show.
I cannot believe.
Okay.
Like we have to.
Household, we have to watch.
You have to watch it.
The hunt for that, I mean that, the hunt for QAnon, that must have been so, so rich in content.
Which, yes, which we filmed on the very haunted Queen Mary during the shutdown.
Like, what?
This is blow in my mind.
How long was that shoot?
Did you experience anything?
Oh, it was two weeks. Oh, okay.
But yes, we did.
Really?
Yes, we did experience something.
And believe me, I'm as woo-woo as.
they come. And I took my ass around that ship. I'm just like, come and get me. Come and get me.
Come and get me. I'm here. Yeah. The only place I felt something was in the engine room. I felt like,
get out. Get out now. But it was a very eerie place to be because no one had been there for so long. And the air
was completely still. No ventilation in certain places. And it was, it was just eerie to walk through it.
And then there was a time we were filming next to a big staircase.
And there are these mirrors on either side of the staircase on the first landing.
Okay?
You can picture that.
And someone kept saying, can everyone clear out?
We need to get this shot.
And there was someone standing.
You could see a figure in the mirror.
Are you serious?
After asking over and over, whoever's in the mirror, you got to move.
They ran up there to see who it was.
and there was no one there.
Come on.
This happened.
This happened.
Were they recording?
Yes, they were.
And do they have the...
I did see the footage.
I said, please let me see that.
Yeah.
Can you yes and with a ghost?
I don't know if those ghosts have heard of improv.
Okay.
What did he or she or they look like?
I don't know.
It's just a figure.
Okay.
Whoa.
But anyway.
That's wild.
Also, it's a funny movie.
That's the takeaway here.
Kew and not.
very, very funny movie.
That's...
That's hysterical.
It was so fun.
Oh, my God.
So, yeah, we did that reboot.
Okay.
Now, do we need a third?
Maybe.
I think we're all down for it, but I don't know who would pay for such a thing.
I would literally fund the whole thing.
Yeah.
I said it here, sure, sure.
I don't...
It's going to be low budget.
I'm going to be honest.
That's all right.
That's all it's ever been.
But I will fund it.
Yeah.
Who have been your favorite people to work with?
Do you think either at the groundlings, it could be performers or writers or just like co-stars in general?
Oh, I've been so lucky.
Yeah.
I have been so lucky.
Look, my whole Reno family, my whole Goldberg's family, cast and crew, that was a magical experience.
St. Dennis, we have the sweetest crew in existence.
And they've all been together through like Superstore, American Auto, and St. Dennis.
Like, this is a tight crew that's been together 10 years now.
I've been really lucky.
I've been really lucky.
I can't say that I've had a lot of bad experiences.
They've mostly been good.
That's amazing.
Knock on wood.
Yeah.
You know.
Well, you're also a big housewife fan.
Are you not?
Oh.
I'll keep you here till tomorrow.
Great.
Yeah.
I have many feelings.
Have you ever, before we get to your feelings about housewives, where I'm very excited to hear,
have you, in any of your roles, have you pulled from any character study watching housewives?
Because obviously, they're so rich in, you know.
Rita from bridesmaids.
I was going to say that.
I was just going to say.
Oh, my gosh, yes.
Rita from bridesmaid.
Is there a particular housewife or is it a conversation?
It's a combination of just the general malaise of, oh, I've got it all, and I am exhausted.
Well, what do you do for a living? Nothing.
Yeah.
What do you do?
What's up with your kids?
They are driving me nuts.
They're not even in the room.
You know, just, I'm here and I meant for so much more if only someone would knock on the door.
and offer me something.
You know?
It's so good.
It's so good.
Especially now that I've gotten into housewives
through working here.
Which franchise did you get your start on?
Oh, Orange County.
Because I live down there.
I'm like the last ditch exit
before Orange County.
Okay.
Is where I live in Long Beach.
Have you met any of them?
Oh, yeah, because I've done,
watch what happens live, like 13 times or something.
So I've met a bunch of them. I've met Vicky, Alexis, Kyle, Derinda? No, not Durinda.
Durinda. Margaret? Margaret? Oh. Yeah, I've met a bunch of them. And, you know, everybody's so much different in real life when you meet them and they're not in that environment. Everybody's so sweet. But they know how to play the game now.
They really do.
Back in the early days, I felt like it was so much more genuine and not as produced.
Do you feel that way?
I don't know.
Yeah.
No, I mean, yeah, 100%.
It was, you know, now with the way people cover the show and the, you know,
the podcasts like ours and the blogs who cover it, it just becomes such an industry, so to speak.
Yeah, yeah.
And now that the universe has really taken off, there's so much, like, fascination with the behind-the-scenes.
So you, I think with that, it kind of peels back some of the mystery of it.
Yep.
But yeah, I mean, 100%.
I think they were just, I think Housewives back in the day, we're less afraid of like what audiences, members would say.
Because fans are so engaged now.
Sometimes it feels like, right, like they're almost reading about themselves online and that changes their behavior, you know, on the TV screen.
A hundred percent.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And seeing yourself on camera, make sure.
you want to go and fix things.
So they're all very polished looking now.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
But it's just a far cry from how it started.
Because again, no one thought that this was going to go on for 20 years, right?
Haven't they been on for 20 years?
Yeah, 20 years.
Yeah.
So, yeah, who knew that this would spawn so many franchises and podcasts and wrap-up shows
and breakdown shows?
You know what I mean?
even they themselves.
I mean, at first they had to blog.
I don't know that they do that anymore,
but don't they all have a podcast?
And have to do the after show things and BravoCon and all the.
It's such an industry, right?
It's such a universe.
Before we get to your thoughts on OC,
how are you feeling,
are you watching Roney?
Are you keeping up with that?
I am.
What do you think of the new season versus, you know,
the first reboot and now this is like a reboot of a reboot.
What are you, how are you feeling?
So this cast is not jelling for me.
Okay.
Yeah.
Why?
There's some that I feel would be better suited with other casts, maybe.
But there's just something clunky about this combination of people that's not doing it for me.
Okay.
You know, it makes me Miss Ramona and Sonia.
Are you going to watch Golden Life?
What's Golden Life?
Oh.
Is there another one?
So yes.
You might like it, though.
There's only so many hours in the day.
It's on.
so it's technically not part of the Bravo universe, but Dorenda, Kelly,
some of the, Luan, Luan, some of the OGs of Roney has said, well, you know, you don't want us back.
We're going to go do our own thing.
And Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Florida, that's where it's going to be located.
And they're kind of reprising their role of housewives.
But they're not going to be housewives because it's not part of the housewives.
Vice franchise, but it's also like E.
It's kind of like it feels like they're kind of competing with Rony, but maybe not.
But people are very excited about it.
Well, I got to say that sounds more interesting than the current iteration of Rony.
Are you liking Vicky back?
Okay.
Here's what I want for Vicky.
I want Vicki to go back to Don.
Yeah.
Do what you have to do, Vicky, but nail that down.
That's who you were meant to be with.
And I want her to go back to the Midwest.
Because I think she would be so much happier there.
That would mean, yeah.
That's what I think.
Scale down.
Be happy.
Move to the Midwest.
Koto is not for you.
You've made it work somewhat, but you seem so unhappy, Vicky.
And you're working so hard.
Stop.
She does kind of have that Midwest grind to her.
Is she originally from the Midwest?
I thought she was from Illinois.
Boy, I think I remember hearing that.
But she wants to go back there.
I do want her to get back with Don.
Just go live a nice casserole-filled life.
Yeah, in the beginning of the season when she was...
She's from Chicago.
She's from Chicago, yeah.
Chicago's awesome.
Go get some devil dogs and no peace.
Yeah.
You want that.
To hear someone who like, you know, left their partner and speak so, like,
you don't really hear a lot of people talk about regret of divorce.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Which I really appreciate her opening up about because you usually just don't hear stuff like that.
But yeah, you're kind of like, well, what's stopping you, you know?
Like.
Go back.
Go back.
Fall on your sword and say, I messed up.
Dawn.
I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you, you sweet, sweet angel of a man.
That's what I want her to do.
Because this Vicky is so sad.
She's got aches and pains.
She's mad all the time.
possible brain damage
possible
oh boy
have any of you
done those scans
I have
have you
I have you
I have a probably should
I
my friend Joe Amoboli
found a brain tumor
they found a brain tumor
oh yeah
whoa
yeah
oh my god
saved his life
did you find anything
nothing
nothing crazy
just that I've got
some sludge in my gallbladder
that I needed to clean up
my diet a little bit
sludge in your gallbladder
I said that's the most
unattractive thing I've really ever heard about myself. I'm like, that's worse than really any
dig anyone's ever sat at me. That's disgusting. Hey, you got sludge in your gallbladder, bitch.
Literally. I was like, cool, cool, cool. I do the stupid thing where it's just like, if I don't go
to the doctor, then I don't have it. And if I do go to the doctor, I'm worried that I will have it.
I am the same way. Yeah. And I have a great doctor. He's so great. I can't get in to see him until
February. So maybe I should just go get a scan.
That's what I did.
Yeah.
Health care is a scam.
I've been renting about it all week.
Listen, I'm right there with you.
It's so frustrating.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm supposed to get a colonoscopy.
It's really divulging a lot here, guys.
They can't get me until March.
Like, what is that?
What is that?
So, but yeah, like a year or two years ago, I did my prenuvo scan.
And I was having mental health crisis because that's what I do.
And couldn't get in to see a doctor.
Like, it was just the wait time was so crazy.
And Pernuva reached out.
It did it.
And I learned a lot about my body.
general, that was the only concerning thing.
Okay.
Besides a herniated disc, but, you know,
that was the only thing. I was like, okay, I need to like
do better. But you find everything
out all at once. You don't have to go and say,
all right, can I get a note to go here?
Okay, great. Then I got to make an
appointment. I go there. They say, no,
we didn't get that note.
Okay, so then I got to go back. Get
another note. Nah, nah, nah, nah.
Wait for this test. No, just
scan me. Just look at everything.
Look at all my gizzards at once.
Why are we not doing this?
Why is everyone not doing this?
It should be standard practice.
Yeah.
Because it's a scam.
You've inspired me.
You should do it.
It is a scam.
It's all a scam.
But can't all be a scam at once in one convenient location?
Yes, exactly.
I learned how much of a scam it was when I sold medical equipment for work.
What?
That'll do it.
Yeah, the dirty little secret is the government actually sets the prices for the private insurance.
They all follow Medicare.
So they have these things called CPT codes, right?
And that's what your doctor's bill, right?
So when you go in and they check you out and whatever,
there's just a code for everything, right?
And then Medicaid and Medicare set those prices.
And it's all bullshit.
Like I used to sell like back braces.
You could buy probably the same back brace out at Walgreens for $30.
But if you got it from a doctor,
a doctor would then be able to build the insurance, right?
and then that and the insurance would pay that doctor $1,100 for that same back brace.
Unbelievable.
That's why like healthcare costs are so inflated, right?
Because the insurance companies in the government and they're all kind of in cahoots together.
And I would basically, like my job was to teach doctors how to basically bill patients and, and bill for what is insured.
That's why like a lot of doctors, like, they, you know, yeah, they make money through insurance, right?
And then sometimes the good doctors will like, you know, it's like, oh, you can't, you don't have the insurance.
Well, this will only be like 30 bucks.
But if it's, if it's through your insurance, it'll be $1,200.
It's crazy.
Oh, it's so infuriating.
Okay.
Okay.
This is a crazy.
Now I'm hot.
Yeah.
I am mad.
I'm with you.
I am, okay.
When are we going to have the home colonoscopy kit?
Because I don't like people rooting around in my knick-knacks.
I want to do it myself.
Yeah.
I'll watch a YouTube video.
I'll watch a YouTube video.
I don't.
I'm afraid people are going to be taking pictures.
Yes.
Here's the thing.
Please don't knock me out and then fiddle with my pooper.
You know what?
This is like, I don't want to sound vain when I say this.
Go on.
You're in a safe space.
It's just us.
Okay.
Yeah.
And everyone else listening.
But I'm like, okay, this is, I'm really divulging a lot.
Okay.
have to get a colonoscopy.
Okay.
And I'm like, and I was on reality TV for a brief moment in time.
Sometimes people, sometimes people recognize me.
Yeah.
What are the odds?
I'm knocked out on my belly.
There's a lot of nurses and a lot of people in healthcare watch The Bachelor.
Oh my God.
Do you know what they did with Joan Rivers?
What they, no.
They took pictures of her when she was out.
Oh my God.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, see, that's the thing.
We are too.
Because it's happened.
It's terrifying.
Like, it is literally worse.
I don't care.
Stick a tube up my butt.
I don't care.
Everyone check your phone at the door.
And nobody talk about this.
Yes.
Like, I know HIPAA's a thing, but I know you girls like to chat.
Like, I know.
What have we seen on TikTok?
Yeah.
Exactly.
Doctors and nurses dancing around, you know.
And then there was that one women's clinic where they were making fun.
of...
Yes.
Yeah.
Well...
No, exactly.
We should probably take this above the waste, but all that to say.
Let's all get scans.
Yeah.
As a family.
And somebody come out with an at-home colonoscopy kit.
And we will endorse it.
Don't tell me that in Switzerland they don't have that.
You know they do.
In some European country where they are way more highly evolved than we are, they're doing
their own colonoscopies at home.
Do you think they would try to do an at-home colonoscopy?
In St. Dennis Medical.
I bet Joyce would try to formulate that.
In fact, you've just inspired me.
Wow.
I'm going to pitch that to the writers.
Oh, my gosh.
Honestly, hire Mary.
She's an incredibly comedic writer.
She's a good ideas person, clearly.
And I like the Chicago shirt she's wearing.
Yeah, it's vintage.
She's pretty cool.
Did anyone inspire you for that role?
Because it'd be honest, it kind of gives a little Michael Scott in the office energy.
You know, I've heard that, but that's,
Okay, I took that a lot of her mannerisms from a boss I used to have.
Okay.
I used to work at this terrible little hotel near Disneyland.
And my boss, God help her, she tried so hard.
But she worked hard, not smart.
And she was always coming up with these asinine ideas for things.
But her heart was in a good place.
And she was a good boss.
and she cared about us.
But she,
nothing she did made any sense.
There was always a much easier way to do things.
And she just couldn't find it.
But she had these, these brainstorms of,
you know what we're going to do.
I'm going to make Christmas presents for all our clients.
I'm going to make them myself.
And what I'm going to do is I'm going to get
malt balls and I'm going to call it reindeer poop and I'm going to put them in a bundle and give
them out to our clients. I love her. No one wants that. I love her. Here's some reindeer poop. That is not
a professional. Here's some reindeer poop. That's what you do when you're five. Come stay at the Romata.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, bless her heart. She's no longer with us. But I took a lot of her work ethic and
kind of
I'm going to
jolly everybody
out of the fact
that they have to work
overtime
woo!
I'm going to give you
pizza
that's much better
than earning money
you know
are there any other
characters you've developed
either from real people
or not
that you would like
die to play
in a future show
or movie
oh wow
yeah
oh gosh
there's so many
okay
so one
character I played on a short-lived show I was on in 2007 called Love Spring International.
It was a completely improvised show about an online dating service in the Valley that would not go online.
I say an online dating service.
They were a video dating service like from the 80s, but they just never made the transition.
We are going to stay on VHS for the rest of our.
lives. We will not, we don't need the computer. So I played a woman who was a, who was a matchmaker,
who herself had been dating a married man for several decades. And her own life was so terrible.
You would not want this woman trying to find that for you. But it was me, Jane Lynch,
Sam Pancake, Jack Plotnick. It was like a lot of good people in it. And only ran 13 episodes,
but it was really fun. But I would like to resurrect.
that character again.
I mean, it's kind of the perfect time
to bring that back, too. It's like with like
dating apps and nobody likes that, having
a VHS company, everyone's obsessed
with the past.
They are obsessed.
Get the kids to go back to tape.
It's like, are you looking for an old soul
someone who doesn't know technology?
Well, we have the person for you.
Yeah.
I'd sign up.
Swipe left.
Press
Rewind.
That's more efficient.
What are you enjoying, not enjoying Carmela as a new addition to the OC cast?
Carmela's very interesting, but I couldn't care less about her boyfriend and the fact that he cheated six years ago or whatever it is.
Like we can stop bringing that up.
But I do like her.
I want to learn more about her business.
And she's just as pretty as can be.
I do want to hear more about her past.
Is like her marriage?
But I like the way she stands up to people.
No, like the playboy of it all.
The wrestling.
Yeah, all that stuff.
But yeah, she's interesting.
I thought personally she might,
she reminds me of someone that might be in the Miami cast.
But then after watching Ultimate Girls trip,
I changed my mind on that.
Because then I was like, oh, wait.
No, no, she's not.
And that ultimate
girl's trip gives me agito.
So why can't I stop?
Why am I watching it?
I was going to ask how you liked it this season.
I scream at the television.
Okay.
Why are you doing another white party?
How many costumes are you people expected to buy?
It's insane.
Yeah.
Because again, they're not theater kids like us.
Yeah.
There's isn't like when we do it.
Yeah.
It's like.
It's organic.
It's natural.
We already own it.
What about Luann's 35 minute tight five?
Oh, oh, that was so tough.
She's a theater kid through and through.
That was so tough.
And yeah, Luanne, we sure didn't see it going that way, did we?
The countess.
But bless her heart.
You know, she's playing the bonnet.
goes on stage and people are paying.
Bless her heart.
Yeah, she's getting it done.
Always in the front of the picture.
Yes, she is.
Is someone who knows how, you know, TV is made,
we had it in this most recent episode of O.C.
One of my favorite things to laugh at with Housewives is when they have the parties on Bravo
because it's always like eight people because they can't get enough of extras, you know,
they don't want to like, they, you know, they have the drama.
And it's always like this.
It always looks like the most pathetic.
party you've ever gone to, which is so like the...
Because they're always in formal wear.
Yeah.
In the backyard.
And you can feel the emptiness of these parties.
And you have, and then you just says, like, you can tell, like, all right, fake dance for
five minutes while we, we will get this beautiful.
Yes, dance with no music.
Yeah.
Because we've all heard that's what happens.
Yeah.
The copyright.
See, we've seen behind the curtain and now we don't watch it the same.
So now when I see a conflict, I'm like, okay, some producer told Alexis to storm out.
Oh, yeah.
We had John Jansen also.
also this episode.
If you're, like, he, that man must love to be just, like, love a ritual, a humiliation ritual.
Because, like, the man's never been talked about positively on that show.
He's always the butt of the joke.
He shows up in this tuxedo, and then you have Shannon being like, yeah, I'd rent a tuxedo for him.
And, like, true or not true, he just sounds.
It looks like such a loser.
And I'm like, why are you, why is still showing up to these things?
Like, are you, are you, I, I really think he's one of those guys who, like, is a housewife hopper.
You know, like, uh, he's just trying to, yeah, he's just trying to get famous and be on TV.
And the closest they can do that is to snag a housewife.
That is how it's coming across.
Yeah.
That is how it's coming across.
I just don't get why he would want to, why, why would he want to do that?
Like, what?
What, what, what's percolating underneath that he wants to bring forth?
Like, it can't be an acting career.
Does he have an invention or does he just want some brand deals so he can
I don't know I don't know but yeah he he is working from the Slade Smiley Handbook
Just keep showing up he really does you know just keep showing up yeah
Are you what are you not watching Salt Lake are you not into that one? I never got into Salt Lake
Really? Yeah I'm shocked I never got into Salt Lake
Have you been, I mean, I'm sure people must have told you it's good.
Have you just been resistant to it?
Well, it's good, but I mean, aren't they all the same?
No.
I don't know.
Salt lake.
There's something in the, maybe it's the salt in the lake.
There's something in these women's brains that like, I mean, you watch the Jen Shaw
lore of it alone.
You watch her get arrested by the FBI on camera.
And that's not the craziest thing that happens, you know?
Well, now you.
You've piqued my interest.
See, for a long time, I didn't watch any of them.
I took like a six-year break to cleanse my mind.
And now I'm off the wagon and just, you know, like I said, screaming at the television.
When I have my own problems I should be focusing on.
But, yeah, I did get into the Rhode Island ones.
You did.
And I've been watching those Mormon wives.
You have?
Oh.
Oh, sweet.
Oh, sweet Lord in heaven.
Sweet Lord, baby Jesus.
And they have an O-C-1 coming as well.
Do we need that?
Do we need it?
I guess someone thinks we do.
Depends on who you ask.
Yeah.
Have you been keeping up at the Mormon wives?
I sure have.
Because, you know, I think it was Whitney on one of the first episodes.
She said, yeah, we're expected to get married really young.
We don't know our bodies.
We don't know anything about sex because no one teaches us anything
and we aren't supposed to be having it.
And then we're supposed to pop out a bunch of kids.
Well, yeah, that is, that's what it's looking like.
But it seems like you're all, like divorce is not a problem.
Yeah, totally.
Because some of them are pretty young and are on their second or third marriage.
So that's an interesting contrast.
I wonder what the church of LDS things.
about those shows.
Like, do they feel like, okay, you're really, I don't know what you're doing here.
You're making us look like we're insane.
But I think as a viewer, as someone who didn't know much about the Mormon lifestyle,
like drinking dark cola is a problem, but you can swing.
I don't know.
Well, I don't even get the dark cola because they can't drink coffee because of caffeine.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But like drink all the soda you can possibly handle?
Yeah.
And depending on, you know, which kind of, or how Mormon you are, sometimes ice coffee's okay.
You know what I mean?
Because it's not a hot drink.
It's something about it being a hot beverage.
The devil's temperature.
It is the devil's temperature.
And I have to say, when I drink a latte, I get evil.
Yeah.
You feel the sin.
I want to sin.
I want to sin all over the place.
Wow.
Well, apparently the LDS...
Let's get her a latte.
Bring it in.
And again, St. Dennis
comes out on November 2nd.
But anyway.
Yeah.
Well, the LDS Church says
that the show is a sensationalized
inaccurate portrayal that does not reflect
typical active members
or the core principles of their faith.
So it seems they're not super into it.
Wow.
They've commented.
The fact that they made a statement
is amazing, though.
Yeah.
Imagine, you know, like, imagine doing a show
and like, you know what?
No. This is not who we are.
Right. Yeah. It happened to Madonna and it's happened to the Mormon wives to have religious institutions frustrated. So good company.
Wow. Well, technically that's not a statement. It was just a consensus of the members in the church.
Well, how did we? Never mind.
What do you mean? It was it like who pulled all the members of the church? Church.
Oh, you know there's a message board out there somewhere. Just what people are saying.
A Facebook line. All the Mormons. They're getting on Reddit under assumed names and talking.
talking trash.
Oh, man.
But, oh, go ahead.
Oh, no.
I actually lost my thought.
Go on.
I was just thinking, to your point, the divorce not being an issue.
I do find it interesting.
It's like they believe their body is a temple.
But it's very surface level in the sense that they're like, your body is a temple.
You must protect it and treat it right and, you know, maintain this image at all cost,
including plastic surgery if it risks your health.
You know what I mean?
They're like, tits, ass, lips.
everything like your body's a temple but only based on what it looks like you know
that's interesting yeah my body's a temple so all are welcome yeah come on in and worship
no there's a there's a lot of loopholes in the yeah I love a loophole you know America runs
on loopholes this is true I think if I were a Mormon I would be in that loophole category
not just swinging I don't think but like other every I would be drinking the ice coffee
Oh, yeah. Flagrantly drinking the iced coffee. Exactly. And all even. Yeah. You know, on this season, this current season, Whitney is saying, you know, well, I'm doing Chicago on Broadway. Will I ever go back to mom talk? No. No, you will not. And you shouldn't. You escaped it. Yeah. You got to be on Broadway. Go in that direction. I don't want to hear about this mom talk anymore.
that's not why we're watching at this point.
Right.
That was your point of entry, but we don't care about your little dancing in sweatsuits, matching sweatsuits.
They don't really do that much anymore.
I mean, every once in a while, I'm sure they do like a TikTok trend, but like the whole, to Wendy's point, the whole like mom talk thing, that's not really still going on?
I think they've all gone in different directions, haven't they?
I mean, and listen, enterprising ladies, good for you.
You made something.
Yeah, absolutely.
You built something.
That's not, that's impressive that it got as far as it did.
But my God, like, why is that a question?
No, you're not going back.
Those girls treated you like crap.
Yeah.
Period.
Anyway.
And she's on Broadway now, or was on Broadway.
I think she's going back to just in time or what, or what is it, that Bobby
Darren musical.
That's so cool.
Anyway, good for her.
I've never been on Broadway, but so well.
Oh, that was my next question.
Was that something you'd be.
want to do? Yes, it is something I'd want to do.
Well, let's get you on. But I'm no
Nini Leaks. Let's get you on. I'm no
Whitney
What's Her Face. Leavitt? Or Reese.
Who's it? Rees Weaver.
Do you sing?
Ish? That's enough. That'll get you there, honey. I can sing talk with the best
of them. Yeah. I feel like a lot of the reality TV people who have been on
Bravo are, like, can singish. So. Yeah.
Yeah. Listen. Bring it down here and I can
make something happen. I heard a little vibrato at the end of that.
I heard a little. It's more than I can do.
Would you ever do the musical Cats because of your love for Cats?
Oh. You have eight, correct? Which I love. Now we're back down to seven.
No, I'm sorry. We had someone crossed the rainbow bridge a couple weeks ago. Bless him.
What was your question? Oh, would I ever do cats? Oh, um, I don't think that'll
ever be an issue. I don't think anyone is going to, but I would do, you know what I wanted to.
I want to play Mortisha Adams on Broadway if they bring that back. I love the Adams family so much.
I love the Adams family. Who would be your dream Gomez to your mortisha.
Oh, oh, that I'm going to have. You know what? Cedric Yard, bro.
Okay.
I would love to do a musical with Cedric.
He is such a good singer, by the way, and he's really funny.
Very cool.
So we're bringing back Reno again.
Again.
And then we're going to parlay that.
He would be an amazing Gomez.
Into an Adam's Family Broadway reboot.
You know what?
I'm really glad I came here today because we are just putting things out into the universe.
We are going to fix our medical system.
Yeah.
Okay.
We're going to be in charge of our own colon polyps.
We're going to poop at home.
All right.
Yes.
Only at home.
Never anywhere else.
Yes.
We're going to get scanned.
We're going to all get on Broadway by any means necessary.
And we mean any.
Yeah.
What else did we?
What else were we going to do?
We're casting shows.
We're casting shows.
We're bringing the online dating show.
You know what?
The name of this podcast needs to be called the,
vile think tank
because this is where good ideas are generated.
We came up with an episode for St. Dennis Medical.
Yes, you did. Yes, you did.
The at-home medical kit.
Thank you.
Don't forget about that, Wendy.
Thank you all. I won't forget.
When it happened, we please come back.
Oh, yeah. If you make that happen, please come back.
I will look straight at the camera while filming and say,
yes.
Wendy, this has been so much fun.
Before we let you go,
give us like one more just like housewife hot take,
either something you hope to see in the upcoming episodes
that you're watching or maybe like a casting idea
of like a housewife you want to come back
or maybe someone who like a former actor, actress out there,
maybe a la like a Denise Richards who you like, you know,
maybe they could make it as a housewife.
I would like Jennifer Tilly to be promoted to
Yes
Full-time housewife
She is so entertaining
I love watching her
I think there needs to be a real housewives of New Orleans
Also there should be
A real housewives of Nashville
I don't know why they haven't gotten on that
That seems like a no-brainer
It does seem like a no-brainer
Yeah you know
And a lot of people in entertainment in Nashville
Like wanting to stay on TV
I think there are conversations happening
to be honest in that department.
Well, I can't wait to tune in.
They're casting women who, it's like, well, if you all came together and made a show,
they could call this Housewives.
And I feel like that's, I know some people who know some people who have been doing some
casting in the Nashville area.
Okay.
Maybe it'll happen.
And are they actual Housewives?
Because we've kind of lost that.
Many of them are not.
A lot of them are not.
Many of them are the ones I'm aware of are, many of them are not.
Because I like to see how the husbands react.
Wendy, this has been so much fun.
Thank you for having me.
Please come back.
It was so fun.
I'll do it.
Wait, how many litter boxes do you have?
Let's see.
We have seven kitties, which means we have nine boxes.
Oh.
Yeah.
That's lovely.
I was expecting, I don't know, I don't have cats.
Yeah.
I'm allergic.
Yeah, I was expecting less.
No, you should always have more than, like one, at least one more than cats.
that you have.
Okay.
That's good to know.
And P.S.
does that mean
everything makes it in
to the box?
No, it doesn't.
She has her work cut out for her still.
Are you sensitive
to the cat lady
moniker?
Oh, I just lean straight into it.
Why hide it?
You are?
We are who we are.
I'm always covered in cat hair
and I can't fight.
I can't deny my natural instincts.
You know,
I'm too old.
Do you have any litter robot?
We have tried that and they did not like that at all. They did not trust it. They're like, I am not. It was like me with a colonoscopy. No, thank you. Not near my netheres.
Wendy, thanks again for coming. St. Dennis Medical. It is out November 2nd. Yes, November 2nd on NBC. Next day on Peky.
Streaming on Pekin. Catch up with all previous seasons on Peacock or on next.
Netflix. Oh, okay. Okay. You have the option now. Yeah. Okay. Wendy, it's a, it was so great to have you. It was an honor. I really appreciate it taking the time. Thanks for having me. It was so much fun. Thanks for coming. All right. Thank you. Bye-bye. Well, I'm sorry you had to miss Wendy. No, heartbroken that I missed it. Now I was on that field trip and didn't make it back in time. But she was so great. Like I said, she didn't remember, but I met her a long time ago. And she was so nice to me. And I was, it was exciting to have her on all these years later.
Unfortunately, even though she's a big Bravo fan,
she doesn't watch Salt Lake City,
so here we are breaking down the last episode.
If you learn nothing from this episode,
you need to learn that, like,
colored contacts are not it.
I don't know what Angie was doing,
but it just goes to show like...
It had been a stylist thing.
Like, you, these would be so sleigh,
you have to wear these and, like, talked to into it.
Do you think we're going to get all season long?
We're going to get this look?
They'll use that one interview
that I'm sure last...
Yeah, throughout the season.
It did not look good.
It doesn't ever look good on anyone.
It looks so unnatural.
It looks so crazy.
One time I had a friend of mine who dated this guy and he had the most insane blue eyes.
Like they were like captivating.
They were just so crazy.
One day she was doing his laundry and found the contacts in his pants pocket.
And she was like, what the fuck is this?
And he had brown eyes.
And she didn't know.
She had no idea.
And turns out he had been just faking this whole time.
with his colored contact lenses.
Well, I had a friend who's a girl with piercing colored blue eyes.
I don't know, blue or green.
And she was, we realized that she was definitely wearing contacts and lying about it.
But like, I don't know what, like, because it went back and forth between the ITMs
and then like these scenes.
And like, she's got beautiful brown eyes.
I mean, she's a beautiful woman.
And like these colored contacts just made her look kind of spooky.
No, she did look spooky.
kind of playing in Halloween. Yeah, I just like, oh my God, just what a, what a teaching moment for
everyone. Maybe that's what she was trying to do. Is this like a cautionary tale to her daughter or
something? Also, she really carried on the toothbrush thing, the entire episode. I love this new housewife.
Her intro on the Harley was pretty iconic. And she's rich, which I love. I told everyone I'm like a
Lisa Barlow apologist, but this episode was a tougher one to support because like she's
definitely lying about the Oscars invite.
What do you mean? You've been invited to the Oscars?
No, I haven't. Really? Like, literally when I was The Bachelor,
I was, like, hoping, like, you know, I had some poll as a Bachelor, and I reached out literally
to Rob Mills. And I was like, if there's any chance, you can get me into the Oscars.
And he's like, I'll try. It never happened. I mean, yeah, the Oscars is like, it's the Oscars.
They're not just inviting. But you've been to, like, what? You've been to the Golden Globes.
you've been to the
I've been to the Golden Globes
that's not the same
as the Oscars
but like I also
I had a friend
I like snuck in
one I worked
the Golden Globes one year
and the other year
I essentially snuck in
because I had a friend
like running
working for the Golden Globes
and I got to like
yeah
I was not invited
that way
he found his way in
but like
I don't think they put out
I don't think
they just invite
random people to the Oscars
well she's friends
with Ben Affleck
so maybe like
Binsen her an invite. I guess. Oh, yeah, I just think, I don't know why she makes up stories like that.
I don't know. It's, I definitely think she's lying, and so does Heather. Do you think you're a smothering
parent, like Meredith, or like Seth thinks Meredith is? Do you think I'm a smothering parent?
No, but. Why does I have a question mark on it? Because you might have the potential.
Okay, explain. Well, I think Rivers too, our kids are too young to really know, you know,
because right now she's so reliant on us
but like when she starts being more and more independent
and wanting to like I don't know
like go play with friends and where you're not gonna you know
I don't know how old do you feel like you're gonna let her
I'm surprised I let her go to preschool
so I feel like that's pretty good
that's a pretty good start yeah I think you have the awareness
not to be one I think your instincts are to maybe
I mean I always want us to be obsessed with each other
And like the second that she's like, mom's not cool and I'm going to go hang out with my friends, I will be heartbroken.
When do you think that happens?
I don't know, probably sooner than I hope.
I would think like 13, but it's probably going to be like nine or something crazy.
That's going to suck.
I just got my haircut today.
And the couple who was cutting my hair, well, the husband was cutting my hair and then his wife was like hanging out with us.
And they have a nine-year-old daughter and they were talking about like Halloween and what to dress up as.
And they were like, oh, what are you like, what are y'all going to do?
And I was like, I hate Halloween.
I don't like to dress up.
It's so stupid.
But obviously for my daughter, like, we'll dress her up.
She was like, oh, why don't you be Wednesday Adams for Halloween?
And she was like, we think it would be so cool.
Like, we would be the mom and he'd be the dad and she'd be Wednesday.
And she was like, because y'all think it's cool, it's so stupid at nine years old.
Being like, y'all think it's cool, so it's got to be dumb.
That's heartbreaking.
I know.
It's going to come so fast.
What would you do if someone at the airport came up to you and said, you're not wearing green, can I pinch you?
Honestly, they need to go to jail for that.
That was so uncalled for.
That was unbelievable.
What was she doing?
I would feel so violated.
I'd be like, please don't ever.
She didn't even wait for a response.
And she's like, I'm going to put this on TikTok.
Is that a thing?
I've never heard of that.
You dress up green and just go.
No, no, no.
If you don't wear green, then you get pinched.
Never heard of that.
Really?
No.
I didn't know that was a thing.
Really?
On St. Patrick's Day, if you don't wear green,
you don't say you get pinched.
It's like a little leprechaun.
Like a leprechaunpercon.
Like a lepercon pinches you?
Yeah.
You didn't know that, for all?
Green? Never. Oh, my God. Well, I do like green, but like, I've often not wore green on St. Patrick's Day. I mean, I love Brittany, but I was, Meredith's was 100% right in that moment to call her obnoxious. Yeah, she was definitely being obnoxious. Brutal. I just couldn't imagine, like, I would just be like, no, absolutely not. Yeah. No, thank you. Yeah. Please don't touch me. And like, weren't two of them in wheelchairs? Like, leave the people alone. She picked on the elderly. She didn't even get like, their response times a little slower, you know. Yeah.
She's like, you're not wearing green.
Can I pinch you?
Also, like, why do they go to San Francisco for St. Patrick's Day?
Like, San Francisco is not one of the cities when you say St. Patrick's Day.
I think that's where I want to be for that holiday.
I think Savannah, Georgia is, like, the best place to be on St. Patrick's Day.
I wouldn't have thought that either.
Are they have a big one?
I think we're on, like, the list of, like, one of the best parades for St. Patrick's Day.
Really?
Yeah.
Well, Chicago and Milwaukee, Boston.
Is San Francisco, like, am I just not aware?
Is it like a, is that a known thing in San Francisco to have a big St. Patrick's Day thing?
It says the signature annual event draws tens of thousands of spectators and features over 100 floats.
Like in Milwaukee, all the bars stay open 24 hours on St. Patrick's Day and people will start St. Patrick's Day at like 6 a.m.
Oh, we would have to take off work.
It's like a holiday in Milwaukee.
Same for Savannah.
You have to get down to like pitch your tent on the side of where like the parade runs through at like 5 a.m.
Or you don't get your spot.
As far as cities go, what are the, do they have, is there a list of the, is there a list of the
biggest St. Patrick's Day festivals in terms of cities.
Says New York, because they have a ton of marchers.
And they have like a parade along Fifth Avenue.
Obviously, Chicago, because they do the river green there and have a parade on Michigan
Avenue.
Is Milwaukee on this list?
Is Savannah on the list?
Yeah, Savannah's on the list.
Thank you.
I don't see Milwaukee.
That's criminal.
We die our fountain green.
It's very chic.
That's criminal.
We just drink in Milwaukee.
There's nothing to die green there?
There's a river.
Well, is it already green?
Probably.
Okay.
It's more brown.
Beautiful.
No.
They don't have much of a parade.
Again, it's just, it's just drinking.
Oh, yes.
You know, Savannah has like a legit parade.
It's like a whole, no, it's so fun.
You've been to it?
Oh my God, yeah.
Okay.
It's like a, it's the thing to do in Savannah.
And apparently San Francisco.
Wait, I know where we're spending St. Patrick's Day next year, Savannah.
Milwaukee.
Well, that will do it for today's episode.
Thank you to our guest.
McLean and Covey, and thank you all of you for listening. We'll see you back on Thursday.
Bye-bye.
Bye.
Bye.
