Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome back everybody to another episode of the Weekly Planet, an official podcast of ComicBookMovie.com where we talk movies, comics, TV shows. My name is James, also known as MrSanda, with me as always my co-host Nick Mason. It's-a me! We've had a bloody couple of weeks off. We have, haven't we? It's been great. We had an amazing clip show last week. We've had a bloody couple of weeks off. It's been great. We had an amazing clip show last week. We did.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Courtesy of our mate, Roar Collings. Roar Collings, that's right. Yeah, he did a great job. And there was a few people on Reddit that kind of contributed to that. Absolutely, yeah, yeah. Good stuff. Hey, James. What's up?
Starting point is 00:00:37 What's the weirdest thing you saw on New Year's, bearing in mind this is just a pretense for me to tell you what's the weirdest thing I saw I have a really long and involved story okay I had a barbecue
Starting point is 00:00:49 and some beers it was great that was it but I had a great time that's my ideal New Year's keep it low key yeah great keep it on the down low
Starting point is 00:00:55 that's very good do you have something to say or do you want to just move on with the show let's move on with the show no I'm just kidding okay here's the best thing I saw in New Year's
Starting point is 00:01:01 it was fairly uneventful but I was driving along it was like 7.30 p.m. Love it. It was still daylight, right? And it was like 40 degrees Celsius, which is like 104. So it's hot. It's a hot night.
Starting point is 00:01:12 You know your bloody Celsius to Fahrenheit. It's hot in the city. It is. Just like the song. Just like the song. And I was driving along, and there was like a pub, and there was like people out and like milling outside the pub having a good old laid-back pub time, right?
Starting point is 00:01:24 Sure. And there was a bus stop, and there were people there pub having a good old laid back pub time, right? Sure. And there was a bus stop. Okay. And there were people there in front of it just waiting for the bus, right? And at the end of the line of people waiting for a bus, there was a guy dressed head to toe in like dirty, like off-white Hessian sack. Like, you know, like.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Like the town idiots or something? No, but like head to toe, like boots and like pants. So it was like he'd made it, like fashioned it. Yeah, and like torso and arms and gloves, but like that dirty Hessian kind of, and like tied together with bits of rope, like all the bits together. And he had like the Hessian sack mask on.
Starting point is 00:01:58 So he had no idea how old he was? Yeah, or she. Or she. But like with the eye holes cut in it. Women can be weirdos too. Thank you. And like the noose, like he tied that on with or she. Or she. But like with the eye holes cut in it. Women can be weirdos too. Thank you. And like the noose, like he tied that on with like the noose rope. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Right? And then in each hand he had a length of chain, which was long enough to reach the ground, like both of them. And at the end of each piece of chain, there was like a flaming torch. Like he'd wrapped some more hessian on there and like dipped it in kerosene so it's actually on fire the two like flaming chains and he was just sort of casually whipping him about waiting for the bus just whipping about and i'm like and i'm stopped at a set of lights and i'm like i have to get a photo of this and then it turned green and somebody honked me instantly and i'm like oh you go and then i came back like i had to drive back like
Starting point is 00:02:43 15 minutes later and he was gone. So it's left me with many questions. Absolutely. First of all, does anybody know what that's supposed to be? Because initially I'm like, oh, that guy's dressed as a scarecrow because it's like the Hessian sack and the moose and whatever.
Starting point is 00:02:54 But then I'm like, the scarecrow doesn't wield flaming chains. No. But then I'm like, is he a Silent Hill villain? Oh, that does sound very Silent Hill. Silent Hill, so it might be that. But why New Year's?
Starting point is 00:03:04 Yeah. And why just there? Like there was nobody was nobody else yeah was he a ghost oh good question i mean it was the middle of the day ghosts don't come out yeah but i'm like there's nothing happened there's not like some sort of horror theme thing happening no at the pub because it was just a just people spilling out why would you light up your flaming torches to get on the bus that seems like they wouldn't let you on the bus yeah Yeah. I'm no bus driver. So here's the question, right? Did he get the bus?
Starting point is 00:03:30 Did he pass out from heat stroke? Did he get arrested for being a masked man wielding flaming weapons on a street? Or did he set himself on fire? Because he was wearing a Hessian sack. That's a really good point. Anyway, email in if you have theories. Did you see...
Starting point is 00:03:46 If you have any fan theories, if you're immediately a fan of this guy like I am. If you've seen that guy at Wikipedia Brown, any answers would be appreciated.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Please. Well, that's my news. Look, we have no guests on the show, but I want that guy on the show. Yeah, let's... Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Actually. This man cave's very flammable. That's true. I mean, it is a regular room. All right. Did you see the pictures of Doctor Strange? I did see the pictures of Doctor Strange.
Starting point is 00:04:10 It's from a couple of weeks ago, but... It's concept art, right? No, no. There's pictures as well. Ooh. There is some concept art, but it's bloody Benedict Cumberbatch. He's in the outfit. Yep.
Starting point is 00:04:17 It's very cool. It is cool. He's looking very... No, that's... That is some solid work. They've gone with the Tony Stark little beard. They've gone with the little beard. There's going to be two little beards, which I appreciate. Now, that is some solid work. They've gone with the Tony Stark little beard. They've gone with the little beard. It's going to be two little beards, which I appreciate.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Yes, that's true. We see a little bit of the sanctum sanctorum. They actually released a photo as well, an actual photo of the window. Yep. And it looks pretty dead on. I'm excited to see that. It'd be weird if they screwed that up. It's a circle.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Oh, no! Yeah. Bad. All this bodes well for this movie. Well, we are going to be talking about most anticipated movies for this year, so we'll eventually get to that, won't we? Over the three-hour runtime, this will probably go for it. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Also, recently I saw they released some X-Force concept art. Oh, yeah, I saw that. And the team is going to be Cable, Domino, Cannonball, Feral, and somebody else. Anybody where you don't need a lot of CGI. Yeah, because they used it all on Cannonball. Yeah, but it was just like as distinct from this, it was just like super generic concept art. Like it was just kind of like, just draw all the characters together,
Starting point is 00:05:25 standing in a line. And then it said X-Force only in theaters or whatever. And I'm like, no, no, it is. I was thinking of the TV series. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm like, they can use all the CGI. Yeah. That's it. That's a bit disappointing,
Starting point is 00:05:35 isn't it? Yeah. It's just like, I find the Marvel concept art really dynamic. Like whenever you see any of it, it's really kind of fluid and cool and, and whatever. And that's what I like.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Great. I also like news that Krang is going to be in the new Ninja Turtles movie. Do you like that though? Yes. Bring that Krang. I like it, but should we have been spoiled about that? That's fine.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Yeah, we were going to be spoiled. It's not something I care that enough about where I'd be like, oh my God. Now when they say Krang though. Yeah, good question. What kind of Krang are we talking about? I think I saw like a toy and they've got like, I mean, toys aren't always indicative of the final. I mean, toys are us.
Starting point is 00:06:10 That's true, certainly. But he's in like a body, like a big guy's body. Like the big fat guy, bald guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 80s sunglasses guy. That's right. That's sort of a variation on that. So that's exciting.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I mean, again, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be in in it because sometimes he's just on little like spindly legs yeah true and i'm okay with that i guess but i'd rather see a big guy a big big stupid guy who plays the big guy if you had to play him if you weren't going to do cgi the answer is john goodman i was going to say vincent d'onofrio that's a really good answer you know what i'm gonna go with that and he could even look they could just do. They could just get his blank expression from every episode of Daredevil that he's in and have him not say anything. That's true. You wouldn't even need him there.
Starting point is 00:06:51 You just paste his head over whatever. That's what I'm saying. Whatever it is. Yeah. You get John Goodman's body and you get his head. Yep. Done. Though John Goodman, he's in pretty good shape, man.
Starting point is 00:07:00 I love that guy. He's the best. He should be in everything except Blues Brothers 3. Yes. That's a best. He should be in everything except Blues Brothers 3. Yes. That's a poor choice of movie. But also, continuing on with, it's sort of Michael Bay news
Starting point is 00:07:12 because he's producing that, but he's also... Great. He's confirmed, and I didn't think that he wasn't doing this, but apparently it's news is, that he is directing Transformers 5. Yes.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Yes. Now, apparently J.J. Abrams told him specifically that he's the only one that could do it. I would argue that that's not true. Absolutely not true. I mean, it might be a sort of, oh, yeah, no. I was going to say it might be because maybe they want to do
Starting point is 00:07:38 more military stuff in this. Right. Like maybe he's the only guy. But if he's produced all the others. He's got that big military drama coming out this year, actually. I can't remember what it's called. About the Benghazi thing? Huh.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Yeah. Because his deal has always been... Crap. Crap. He makes crap. But also like... Not always. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:54 He's made some good stuff. His deal has always been like, he's got some sort of relationship with the US military. He does. He can borrow all their equipment. If he needs a big boat. And all he has to do is pay for the bullets and the fuel or whatever. And then they let him use a tank, which seems incredibly dangerous. He seems like the kind of guy who's just tearing checks.
Starting point is 00:08:14 He's the only guy still using checks. Just tearing checks. He's probably tearing checks, yeah. And he's probably also like, just as a goof, he's like kept a couple of tanks at his house. Like he's like, I know there's a couple more weeks, guys. And they're like, all right. And he's just got tanks.
Starting point is 00:08:29 He's just sitting on them naked. Yeah, and when you go through the gate of his mansion, as you go up the path, it's just lined with tanks. You're like, oh, this is a power move, isn't it? I hope he hasn't paid for all the bullets. So, look, yeah, he's doing it. I'm not surprised. He reckons it's going to be his for all the bullets. Yeah. So, look, yeah, he's doing it. I'm not surprised. He reckons it's going to be his last one, though, so.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Wow. That's five. He's done five. Yeah. That's a lot. Yeah. Anyway, there's a new Voltron animated series coming to Netflix. What?
Starting point is 00:08:56 Yeah. Really? Yeah, really. That sounds like a thing you've made up to make me happy, and then it turns out it's not true. I would do that. Yeah, you would. It's real news great uh but did you also hear the hateful eight is the most oh the ridiculous six sorry the ridiculous
Starting point is 00:09:12 six is the most watched netflix because a couple of weeks ago i said it's kind of difficult to find it on netflix like it wasn't in the it wasn't in the what's new yeah it wasn't like in that that top headline bar kind of thing and I guess this negative press is like bumped it right up I've heard a lot of people have like switched it on
Starting point is 00:09:30 and been like nah and like turned it off I'd like to see the stats I'd like to see specifically what that means how many is that right because like with YouTube views
Starting point is 00:09:38 it's right up there there's a different stat for you watch the whole thing yes there absolutely is there's a different stat for I watched it for two seconds and I switched it off. Watch retention.
Starting point is 00:09:46 I have excellent watch retention. Did you know that? Huh. As in in my life. How's your water retention? Terrible. Just flowing right out. But yeah, I've never lost a watch in my life.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Great. Zing. You got it. I got that. Yeah, you did. Yeah, so I think with this Voltron thing, I think that means I might be prepping for another movie. Just be like, let's just kind of test the waters and see what happens. I want to see a Voltron thing I think that means they might be prepping for another movie just be like let's just kind of test the waters
Starting point is 00:10:05 and see what happens I want to see a Voltron movie Pacific Rim was okay yep I forgot it immediately it's more that funny little gif where it looks like
Starting point is 00:10:13 the two guys are piloting the giant robot but then they're piloting a little cat in a house I haven't seen that it's a pretty good gif it's very good it's the best part
Starting point is 00:10:21 okay good good so yeah Voltron man but they're doing Power Rangers as well, so whatever. I saw that and they're like, here's the concept after the Power Rangers. It's a sweet new look. It's exactly the same. It's exactly the same.
Starting point is 00:10:32 There's no difference. Hey, did you see this? This is more indie, but- Indiana Jones? Yeah. Nice. He's going to be back, isn't he? Probably.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Jason Manzoukas,. Jason Manzoukas. Comedian Jason Manzoukas. Who's he? I don't know that guy. Oh, he's in The League. FX is The League, which is a very funny show about fantasy football leagues. I've enjoyed it a lot. He's also nuclear.
Starting point is 00:10:56 Oh, he's in that podcast. Yeah. He's great. He's the host of How Did This Get Like? He's amazing. I love that guy. He's also nuclear Nadal in The Dictator. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Yes, he is. He's writing the Battling Boy guy. He's also Nucleon Adal in The Dictator. Yes, yes he is. He's writing the Battling Boy movie. What's Battling Boy? Battling Boy is like a post-apocalyptic kind of comic. It was a graphic novel by Paul Pope. Yeah. And it's about, it's a city and it's under siege by all these monsters and the real heroes died.
Starting point is 00:11:20 And basically there's this kid from another dimension called Battling Boy who's basically, this is his trial by fire. He has to go into the city and destroy all the monsters. It's really good. It's like it's a bit like art-wise it's a bit like Tank Girl or like Frank Miller before he went crazy. So never. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:39 It's a lot of blank pages and it just says this is what Frank Miller, if Frank Miller wasn't crazy, we'd put some sweet art here. But it's very good. It's just a lot of blank pages. And it just says, this is what Frank Miller... If Frank Miller wasn't crazy, we'd put some sweet art here. But it's very good. It's very... Great. Battling Boy. Yeah. Battling Boy or Batlin Boy?
Starting point is 00:11:52 Battling. All right. Pronounce it Battling Boy. I will do that. Yeah. But yeah, it's great. I take it they're going to make a kind of comedy-ish then. Yeah, it must be, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:01 If they're getting in on it. It's quite ridiculous looking. Good. Great. Yeah, that's going to be real good. I'm all for all of that. then yeah it must be if they're getting him on it's quite it's quite ridiculous looking good great yeah that's going to be real good I'm all for all of that it was going to be an animated series I think but then they
Starting point is 00:12:10 they didn't it's going to be by Plan B which is Brad Pitt's yeah yeah his the new one the animated one was going to be
Starting point is 00:12:17 so I don't know what's going on here Brad Pitt's actually got some movies coming to Netflix he made like a deal he struck a deal with them so that's interesting but anyway
Starting point is 00:12:24 that's not what we're talking about today, Mason. Okay. Daredevil trailer, did you see it? I did see it. I know you did. You were here. Yeah. You watched it.
Starting point is 00:12:30 You saw my reaction. You said, should we film this for a reaction video? And I said, no. No. So what did you think, firstly? Because we've got some release date info as well. Well, it was a bit of nothing.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Yeah, exactly, it was. I appreciate the effort of making the nice little artworks. What did you say? Foggy Nelson doesn't belong in like a... He doesn't belong in Renaissance art. He belongs on a couch eating some Doritos and drinking some Mountain Dew. Very true. Or in one of the Mighty Ducks movies, which he's in.
Starting point is 00:13:03 He's one of the Bash brothers. That's true, he is. And then, you know, you get the Punisher skull at the end. It seems that and all that. Now, originally it was thought, the rumor was that it was going to land the same day as Batman v Superman, which is March 25th. That's really soon. Isn't it though? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Yes. Which way have they gone? It's a week before. Yes. But even if it was 25th, I don't think it would affect either. No, nobody's going to be like, oh, I've got to watch the new season of Daredevil.
Starting point is 00:13:29 I cannot block out an extra two hours to see. Exactly. So if it was me, I'd go see Batman and then come home and just finish, keep watching Daredevil.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Hang on, I'm getting bloody tweets all over the place, mate. There we go. That's better. Well, look, Mason. Yes. It certainly is a time of the year,
Starting point is 00:13:45 isn't it? Boy, isn't it though? Now, this is actually, we're recording this on the Friday, so there. Yes. It certainly is the time of the year, isn't it? Boy, isn't it though? Now, this is actually, we're recording this on the Friday. So there's probably, because I'm going away for the weekend and you are... I've got some murders to do. He's got some murders to do. It's the best time to do murders. It is. Oh, I also forgot.
Starting point is 00:13:57 People are in their homes. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. Also, Scarlett Johansson's been cast in Ghost in the Shell. Yeah, like... Did that happen ages ago? Like six months ago. Was that six months ago?
Starting point is 00:14:05 Huh. That came up on News Feed. I don't know why. Did it really? Yeah, yeah. Maybe it was confirmed. Maybe it was just a rumor. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:10 You for that? Yeah, why not? Do you like that? We watched that together once. Ghost in the Shell. There's another one, isn't there? There's like two and then a series or something. Yeah, well, there's the...
Starting point is 00:14:19 Yeah, you're correct in your assumptions. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah, no, I enjoyed that. Good, good, good. Good fit. So, yeah. So, there's probably more news that we have missed and, you know, that your assumptions. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah, no, I enjoyed that. Good, good, good. Good fit. So yeah, so there's probably more news that we have missed and, you know, that's the way it goes.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Unlikely. What if we ever missed anything? Look, people don't come to us for prompt news, do they? That's never been... I'm sure some people do, they just never come back. So we thought we'd go through the most anticipated movies of the year. Very good. We can go month to month.
Starting point is 00:14:44 I looked at January. No, let's go alphabetically. good. We can go month to month. I looked at January. No, let's go alphabetically. Okay. No, I'm just kidding. I don't want you to redo your Excel spreadsheet. I don't even know how to use Excel. It's a confusing nightmare to me. So we're going to start in February.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Do you want me to just start listing and then we'll just say yay or nay or just be like, yeah, I'll say that. Sure. This is good because I have no idea what's coming up. Looking at this list here, we're going to spend a lot of money on movies. On good movies? Oh, no. It remains to be seen.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Okay, the first up we've got, it's not the first movie. Okay, so before we go here, is it going to be, is there like a period where there's just nothing? Yeah, it's like that weird like September, October. Okay, we got some time. But I think pretty much every month, except for a couple, there's something that I want to see. I've only really picked stuff that we may have interest in
Starting point is 00:15:35 or something to say. Great. Deadpool, February something. You interested? I'm still interested. Should we be like- Despite everything to do with Deadpool, I'm still interested in the movie, which is a credit to everybody who's made the movie everybody's in
Starting point is 00:15:48 the movie everybody who made all the trailers yes all the uh all like the viral marketing all the deviant art of the viral marketing like it's a it's astounding to me that my enthusiasm for this movie hasn't been crushed yet because yeah exactly what month to go that's it yeah like there's been even somebody like to me I do be not there's somebody who made like an image of like Deadpool like graffiti over the Batman
Starting point is 00:16:15 V Superman yeah posters that was cool yeah could have been authentic like yeah I genuinely thought it wasn't who said that because I looked at it and went cool because one of those things pops up in my feed like every 30 seconds. But yeah, like you said, great. It looks good. I think there are concerns that the movie's wackiness and humour
Starting point is 00:16:35 isn't going to match the viral marketing campaign. Okay. Like that it's going to be too kind of mainstream. And you even mentioned there's a lot of that on the highway, isn't there? Like a lot of stuff in the show. Yes, like my number one concern, I guess, for this movie is that every trailer thus far we've seen the origin yep we've seen him hanging out with steve agey and then we've seen this fight on a highway and no other action sequences steve agey is that no it's t.j miller yeah i confuse them you do he
Starting point is 00:17:01 straightened his hair i can understand that yeah um. I can understand that. We've seen this action sequence on a highway, but no other action really. Yeah, just a couple bits and pieces. Is this all we get? Like, is this the... If they are saving some big action set pieces for the movie, great. That is some restraint we've not seen in a while.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Yeah. Batman v Superman. But if this is the big big sequence it can't be right well even if it is it looks pretty spectacular it does look good yeah yeah so i don't think i'd be too he does have that deadpool does have that argument with colossus in that scene where it's like i don't have time yeah which suggests that maybe this is midway yeah maybe or like i think there's going to be a colossus deadpool kind of fight as well i'd imagine which would be cool to say yeah yeah do you think you could only do this
Starting point is 00:17:50 kind of campaign once like for any other movie or say deadpool 2 you can't kind of do this again i think they could do it again for deadpool 2 if this one works yep i'm on board all right for a second one excellent well speaking of sequ, no. Zoolander 2. Oh, yeah. It's a comedy. Would you? Is it? No, I'm kidding.
Starting point is 00:18:10 We should also mention if we... It's no Ridiculous 6. Yes. If we weren't doing the show, whether we'd go and see the movie or not. Because most of the stuff we kind of have to see. Right. We have to, but we're obliged, I guess. So Deadpool we'd obviously both see.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Both see. You know what? Colossus is looking great in that. True dat. That is the best. And I never say true dat. But now it's my new thing. True dat would obviously both see. Both see. You know what? Colossus is looking great in that. True dat. That is the best. And I never say true dat. But now it's my new thing. True dat.
Starting point is 00:18:29 No, no. It's on this t-shirt. I already printed it. Oh, yeah, I guess. It's a little cartoon of you going, I say true dat. Thumbs up. I don't like it at all. Would you pay for Zoolander too?
Starting point is 00:18:40 Yeah. I would too. But I don't know. Again, like the Ben Stiller stuff hasn't aged as poorly as some other stuff. You're talking about Mike Myers? Yes. You're talking about Adam Sandler? You're talking about Rob Schneider?
Starting point is 00:18:52 You're talking about Roy Scheider? Who are you talking about? Yeah, I was talking about Roy Scheider. Sequest DSP. Remember the second season? I remember. They went away out of space or something? It was weird.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Mark Hamill was in it. Yeah. Blue Thunder also was a movie. Stealth Helicopters. You remember that one i remember blue thunder anyway yeah it had a silent running mode i remember right they used it to look at couples having sex they did they put their pervy microphone and their pervy camera on people in bill you could do that in the 80s you could do that in the 80s or 90s or whatever it was. Nowadays, they'd have to be like one of the characters that'd be like, not cool, dude.
Starting point is 00:19:28 But in this one, one of them's like, we could use this to perv on people and the other guy's like, righteous. True dat, he says. Oh, this is very uncomfortable. Anyway, Zoolander. I like Ben Stiller as a director. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Except maybe a reality bite which probably doesn't hold up because it's like mid 90s wank kind of like what does it all mean we're just in our
Starting point is 00:19:50 mid 20s where's life shut up I still kind of like those movies get your shit together whoa sorry go on
Starting point is 00:19:56 I was gonna say I still kind of like those movies I remember really liking Garden State when it came out me too I know it's different
Starting point is 00:20:01 eras yes have you since gone back on Garden State no I don't think I can should I give it's different eras. Yes. Have you since gone back on Dark State? No, I don't think I can. Should I give it another go?
Starting point is 00:20:09 Explore the infinite abyss, Mason. Good luck exploring it. I should shout into the abyss. I'm just a weird dude, but Natalie Portman loves me. Why is he sitting in front of that wallpaper with the same
Starting point is 00:20:23 shirt? I don't know. I couldn't say. Okay. Anyway, Zoolander 2. Zoolander 2. I'm all for it. Nostalgia.
Starting point is 00:20:28 So do you think this movie is going to be more than just nostalgia? I think, yes, slightly more. I think it's been long enough that if you just did it based on nostalgia, at least half the people who came in would be like, I don't understand what's going on here. So I think there needs to be jokes and there needs to be, because otherwise... See, I thought Anchorman 2 worked.
Starting point is 00:20:51 I didn't think it was necessarily as good. I've only seen it once, maybe twice. So I think it'll be like that. It'll be like, not bad. Okay. Because a lot of sequels they leave that are too late, like they're suddenly like, we're doing Juice Bigalow 2 or whatever.
Starting point is 00:21:05 That probably wasn't a 10-year gap. That was filmed simultaneously. That was off cuts. They just mushed them all together. Yeah. I don't know, man. I think it'll be fine. It's just Rob Schneider at the water cooler.
Starting point is 00:21:19 Just in his trailer. Did you hear about his Netflix TV series that people hate? No, I've seen it on the thing. He paid for it himself as well. I have not clicked add to my list pay for it himself yeah yeah what is it is it a docu it's kind of like a louis kind of i've never seen the trailer is it is it it's not faring too well so it's not so it's sort of like this is my real life but it's not his real life yeah pretty much yeah yeah okay i'll tell you what i'll watch an episode now. Good. I'll keep you updated as it happens.
Starting point is 00:21:46 Please do. I'll give you a reaction vid to it. Have you seen the trailer for Gods of Egypt though? Yes. Like a month ago.
Starting point is 00:21:53 I'm very excited. It looks garbage. It looks garbage, right? It's the guy who did iRobot as well. What's he done since then? Let's look it up.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Okay, let's do it. It's very whitewashed as all these things are. Yeah, they always are. Yeah, there's no... The worst part of this... They should have got Oscar Isaac.
Starting point is 00:22:08 They should have. He can play anybody from any era. You know, I like it because it looks insane. Yes. I was going to say, I thought he did Dark City. I thought he did. He did The Crow. He did Dark City.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Oh, it's Alex Proyas. Yes. He did Knowing, when Nicolas Cage was like, the world's going to burn. Yep. There's a book that's been scrolled into. See, even if I didn't know that this was Alex Proyas, it's got Rufus Sewell in it, who is from Dark City.
Starting point is 00:22:32 Which one's seen Dark City? He's the main guy. I like that movie. Yeah, it's good. Yeah, Kiefer Sutherland's like, oh, memories, oh. You remember that? Have you seen Geoffrey Rush's IMDb photo?
Starting point is 00:22:41 No. Is it of him? Like crazy man's hair? No. In fact, the opposite. Does he look slick as? He's got a little beret on. What is that?
Starting point is 00:22:51 Why are you so wide? He's a huge man. But look how wide he is. How big is that jacket? He looks like that Dana Carvey. Remember Master of Disguise? He does look like that. Where he's dressed as a big turtle man.
Starting point is 00:23:04 Geoffrey Rush, get a bloody... Take my advice, Geoffrey Rush. I know you listen. Get a new photo, mate. That's a guy you could easily see in Melbourne. He's always kind of around. He's always there, yeah. He's on a tram and doing this and that.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Anyway, Gods of Egypt. It looks insane. It's got giant men and big snake monsters. Yep. And Gerard Butler. And it's got sort of people in rope, cyborg robot wings. And like bloody silver Hawks.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Yeah. And it's got the, a lot of people were like, why didn't, why didn't they just make a silver Hawks movie? That's a good question. And the kid in it doesn't look very interesting. I'd say that it looks like a generic kind of like,
Starting point is 00:23:41 Oh, okay. Right. I'm along for the ride. Let's get Gerard Butler. Speaking of Gerard Butler, he didn't mean this, but in March, we've got London has fallen. Oh, would you pay for gods in Egypt? like a generic kind of like oh okay right i'm along for the ride let's get jared butler speaking of jared butler i didn't mean this but in march we've got london has fallen oh would you pay for gods in egypt oh would i i would yeah i think i would hang on let me just let me just skim this
Starting point is 00:23:54 trailer give you a little reaction vid oh yeah that's looking good that's so this is this is meant to be like a prehist like prehistory world like like, we think it's all myth, but it's real kind of thing. Is that the idea? Or are they supposed to be extraterrestrial, these people? I think they're actually gods. Okay. Not actually. Like, they're actors.
Starting point is 00:24:16 They're all actors. Oh, so this isn't a documentary. No. Okay. Yeah, there's that guy, Gerard Butler's in it. Great. I don't think he's back to his pre-300 physique. No, because I think he was juicing for that.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Oh, right. Yeah. You can only do that for a couple of movies. That's true, before your heart explodes. Okay. And they've got to retrieve some sort of gem. Is that what's happening? It's an eye.
Starting point is 00:24:34 It's his eye, man. They pulled out the dude from Gamma Throne's eye. You know how we feel about retrieving gems. We're okay with it. We're okay with it. Yeah. There's that kid. True dat.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Oh, God. Oh, God. Yeah, look, it looks super dumb. with it yeah there's that kid true dat oh god oh god yeah look it looks super dumb like the CGI doesn't look oh look at that giant monster thing
Starting point is 00:24:51 oh no it's a snake shooting fire like the CGI is kind of a bit wonky in parts yep but I'm all for it okay great
Starting point is 00:24:59 I'll pay money for that and regret it would you play money for London has that's my number three option is I'll pay money for it and I'll immediately regret it. Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:06 It's like, I reckon five minutes in, I'll regret that. But yeah. Worth it. Yeah. All right. London has, okay. Is the next one London has fallen? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Yep. Which is a lot. Last time the White House was fallen and this time it's all of London. London's enormous. It's pretty big. Yeah. Like how do you fall all of it? It's a metaphor oh yeah they get
Starting point is 00:25:27 the queen or something do they i don't know should we have done any research i saw the trailer okay great let's skip it who cares what about it's no white house down are they doing another that's a shame i like that one yeah what about diver brackets alignment, which is maybe the last Divergent. Oh, great. I don't know. It can't be the last one. Wasn't it Insurgent? There was Divergent and then Insurgent and then Resurgent.
Starting point is 00:25:53 Detergent. And then Detergent. And then Manservant, which was strange. Yeah. No, I don't know. Nanstergo. It's a type of cheese. Good, good.
Starting point is 00:26:01 No, who cares about that? But then we've got in March, Batman v Superman, Dawn of Justus. Huh. Still excited? Yes. I mean, I know you are. Look, I've got my reservations now.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Because of the trailer? Well, that's the thing. I'm not concerned it's bad. I'm concerned there's nothing left. Because that last trailer, and there's probably going to be another one. Yeah. There's a big special coming up on
Starting point is 00:26:25 the cw they're doing like a half an hour dc special where they're like this is our universe oh this is all about it oh do you want to see any of that no okay then i'll make sure you don't see it i'll have to do an episode on it we will yes look yeah i just my feeling is there's nothing left in this people like there's so much there's much more. There's no. There's going to be some Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne banter. Yep. There's going to be a face-off between Luther and the good guys. Yep. And a doomsday.
Starting point is 00:26:56 And a doomsday. Well, maybe it's not about the story. It's about the journey or whatever. There's nothing worse than it being about the journey, not the destination. Yes, that's what I meant to say. Look's nothing worse than it being about the journey, not the destination. Yes, that's what I meant to say. Look, I don't know. We've talked this to death.
Starting point is 00:27:10 Yeah. I want to see it. I'm very much looking forward to it. We've been talking about it for like three years. We've never seen... Yeah. We've never... Oh, you were going to say?
Starting point is 00:27:17 I was going to say we've never seen live action Batman v Superman before. So that's... Is what we're seeing. Yeah. But have we also seen all the beats of their fight as well oh yeah i know i know because we've seen them we've seen them we've seen superman rip the doors off the batmobile we've seen batman punch him through the skylight and then land on him and yeah etc etc like seeing batman punch him in the face and get laser vision and all that kind of stuff
Starting point is 00:27:45 yeah all valid points I guess I'm just a bit unclear as kind of the exact no I'm not I kind of know the order it's going to happen
Starting point is 00:27:52 yeah you do Batman's in a regular suit then he's in an armoured suit and then they fight the armoured suit comes off and then he's in the regular suit again and then they fight doomsday yeah
Starting point is 00:28:00 I mean if it's any variation on that I'd be happy I'd be like well it was in a slightly different order than what I thought it was very good wow they got me yeah great we'll we'll talk about it when it comes out yep the jungle book in april any interest is that what it's called the jungle book yes it doesn't come out in april though uh no it does what do you think is this live action yes we're getting a jungle book and a Tarzan? Yes. I think we're getting two Tarzans, are we?
Starting point is 00:28:27 No. Surely not. The world does not have the patience for three strapping lads leaping through vines in the jungle. We don't. It's not going to happen. What about a George of the Jungle? Would you be happy with that?
Starting point is 00:28:41 Didn't they do one of those? They did in the 90s. They did a Brendan Fraser. Yeah. That guy had a cracking bod bod didn't he what he was really doing what are you doing this episode did you want to reply with true dat is that what's brendan fraser doing lately i don't know i'm gonna look that up and be incredibly depressed okay good um he's done some good stuff though who cares he's bloody paid the mummy was great the mummy was great incinerator man was probably great for the two minutes that you know yeah no the jungle book is that live action disney a whole lot of cgi animals bill murray's
Starting point is 00:29:16 the bear scully hansen's the snake um i think and i don't i don't want to get your hopes up, but Christopher Walken is King Louie. The orangutan. Okay, sure. Playing against type. That's good. I'm very excited about that. Can you imagine Christopher Walken singing that bloody orangutan song from that movie? That'd be incredible. I'm just imagining him singing every Disney song under the sea.
Starting point is 00:29:43 Just all the... They should put him in. If every live-action adaptation, they should slot him in as a cartoon animal. Give it a song. Spot the walking. Yeah, spot the walking. He's so good. Look, I...
Starting point is 00:29:57 I don't know. Does the world want to see any of these? That's my... I feel like they will. This one, yes. I think that that entire i i'll see them kind of yeah like this i feel this entire genre do you know what genre i'm talking about it's this retro not not like people in the jungle but i mean like this pulp yeah like your
Starting point is 00:30:20 1930s yeah your 1920s 30s kind of. Your John Carter, your Phantom, your Jungle Book. The Shadow. Green Hornet. Old Green Hornet. Yeah, yeah. Do people, why can't Hollywood crack this? You know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:36 Because I'll watch them. Yeah. Like I'll enjoy, but I'll enjoy them, like I'll watch, I'd enjoy a new The Shadow. Yeah. I'd enjoy a new The Phantom. Yes. But I probably wouldn't go for new The Shadow. Yeah. I'd enjoy a new The Phantom. Yes. But I probably wouldn't go for another Tarzan.
Starting point is 00:30:48 Yeah. Like, what's the difference? What's the difference? I guess it's guns. It's probably guns. Guns. It's guns over muskets. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:56 Yeah. I guess so. Yeah. But did you hear also they're doing a prequel to 101 Dalmatians with Emma Stone as Corella DeVille, young Corella DeVille. See, this is the kind of shit that I hate. Right, okay. Prequel reimagining, maybe she's not such a bad person.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Like, Maleficent shit. Maleficent, yeah, uh-huh. Like, that kind of garbage. Yeah. Like, I like Emma Stone a lot. Or like, what was the great and powerful? You know what? Didn't hate that one.
Starting point is 00:31:23 I didn't hate it either. It's kind of, I heard it's got the exact story of Army of Darkness't hate that one. I didn't hate it either. I heard it's got the exact story of Army of Darkness, which I haven't seen. Yeah, it does. Now that I think about it. Well, the same director. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:32 What were we talking about? Oh, yeah. Jungle Book. This genre will never recover. Well, we'll get to Tarzan and we'll... Okay, cool. All right, Jungle Book. I have no love for the Jungle Book.
Starting point is 00:31:41 Not even Tailspin. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. You don't like how that kid's slid around I have no love for the Jungle Book. Not even Tailspin. You don't like how that kid slid around on that little, like, looked like a metal croissant and he'd surf the skies and Blue would, like, throw a pineapple through his bloody propeller and it would go on the bad guy's nose? None of that. So I asked. Again, I'm a Darkwing Duck guy.
Starting point is 00:32:02 You know why? Guns. More grappling guns. Doesn't matter. You know why? Guns. More grappling guns. Doesn't matter. Irrelevant. Guns. Yeah. What about Captain America Civil War, which comes out in April for us.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Yep. And I think the UK and parts of Europe. But in the US, it's in May. But we can talk about it in April if you want. It doesn't really matter. That's true. Oh, wait. Are we going to pay for... I... Are we going to pay for London is Falling? No, I's true. Oh, wait. Are we going to pay for...
Starting point is 00:32:25 Are we going to pay for London is Falling? No, I wouldn't. Okay, great. I'd see it on Netflix or whatever. And I will never see Divergent ever. I think I would watch five minutes on... Not even five minutes. I'd start it up on Netflix.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Yep. And then the titles would start. And I'd be like, I've got other stuff to do. You'd get distracted by Brendan Fraser's Wikipedia. Yeah, and then it would just stick in my queue. Like, continue watching it. It'd be like one millimetre of red to indicate I've watched one minute of it.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Can you clear that so it goes away forever? No. It's irritating, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah, oh well. Better watch it then. You better. What were we saying?
Starting point is 00:33:04 Civil War. Civil War. Don't know that much about it yet great rumors of death of major character there's rumors of giant man there's all sorts of shenanigans i feel giant man has been confirmed right yeah yeah yeah there's lego sets there's a lego set or a funko toy as well i can never i you know what i i never i never researched far enough to determine whether that's a Photoshop or not. Sure, yeah. I'm like, it's Giant Man. Okay, I'm on board with that. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:33:29 Yeah, well, you don't need to. It's not like you do a show on it or anything. Oh, no. Look, I'm excited for this man. I'm as excited as I am for Batman v Superman, except I've seen less of it. So I guess that makes me slightly more excited because I'm kind of like, oh, where's this going to go?
Starting point is 00:33:44 Well, I switch back and forth because i initially i'm like we've seen we've seen iron man and captain america face off to various levels we've seen all the characters we've gotten two avengers movies one was great one was fine yep i'm done with this but then when they released that last trailer for this i'm like this is back on top absolutely this is this is great back on top you say maybe oh my goodness yeah in may i've put this in i don't know why it's it says the nice guys what is the nice guy no idea why the hell must have put that in for a reason let me is that is that our cabaret troupe that we're starting in my oh now i know why this is the movie by shane black and it's got russell crowe and ryan gooseling grace and it looks incredible did you watch the trailer for
Starting point is 00:34:28 that no a few weeks ago it looks amazing it looks really funny funny russell crowe looks great he's just like you know what i'm just gonna be a guy who hurts people just like real life sure yeah he's just got a bandolier of phones around his waist just old clunky 90s phones though like that really hurt, yeah. Yeah, just watch the trailer. Maybe not now. Or now I don't care. But it looks great.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Definitely pay money for that one. That's got everything I like. It's got Shane Black. Yep. Who's good when he's not doing an Iron Man movie. Yep. In fact, he's great when he's not doing an Iron Man movie. Gooseling.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Gooseling. Who's great in everything. Russell Crowe. Who's great in everything. Who we've forgiven him because it's been a long time since he's done something stupid or punched someone. So he's ours again. He's Strayer's own, Russell Crowe.
Starting point is 00:35:11 I've said it before. He doesn't seem like a super nice guy, but I... Sorry, my dog's sneezing. Yeah, yeah. It's the hay fever, man. You all right? I like what you're about. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Yeah, no, I don't really... Russell Crowe seems mean and unpleasant. Sure. But he is the greatest actor in the world. He might be. Would you like... There's that Russell Crowe tripod song, which is amazing. About how he's the greatest actor in the world.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Yeah, maybe I'll put that in there. Oh, it's a song to his son, right? Yes, it's a lullaby to his child, yeah. I'll put it at the end. Let's find that. Okay, great. After that, though, we've got x-men apocalypse yeah in for in for a pound and a penny what's the expression great no no god yep good i want to see some costumes but other than that yeah you want ridiculous 80s costumes yes they've let us down there haven't they yes they have
Starting point is 00:36:05 yeah they're one chance I want to see some Danger Room shit I guess the 90s they could do it again if they're going to do another yeah I guess
Starting point is 00:36:11 that would be pretty good some extreme 90s shit yeah do you think they'll just get Bryan Singer to do them forever though literally forever yes they'll make him do it now do you think like
Starting point is 00:36:20 it's kind of like his property now and they'll just be like here's 30 million dollars make another one no you reckon no well what else does he do Valkyrie No, do you think it's kind of like his property now and they'll just be like, here's $30 million, make another one? No. You reckon? No.
Starting point is 00:36:28 Well, what else does he do? Valkyrie? Besides that. See, I get no sense of Bryan Singer as... I'm never like, oh, here's an artistic project he's embarked upon. Yeah. Is he just a gun for hire? Who happens to be pretty good at...
Starting point is 00:36:44 You know what? I think he may have become that because, well, he's done... He did Valkyrie, Jack the Giant, Slayer, Usual Suspects, Superman Returns, which you really hate. Yep. And a bunch of other kind of stuff. But, yeah, it's mostly X-Men kind of properties at this point, either producing or kind of in...
Starting point is 00:37:00 Right. So it does feel like... Because the Usual Suspects was great. Yeah, but it's from, like, 96. Yeah, exactly. It feels like he's like my this is this is what i wanted to do artistically now i'll just do whatever yeah so i guess he'll keep doing x-men movies forever do you want to see another jack the giant slayer yeah did you see that one no but i'll see the second one i'll see the second one with bloody jacks down and out because he slayed all the
Starting point is 00:37:24 giants yeah like what else do i do i'm a burnout man yeah absolutely we're already up to june how I'll see the second one with bloody jacks down and out because he slayed all the Giants yeah what else do I do a burnout man yeah absolutely already up to June how exciting not literally haha that's a good joke I feel it's the best mark of a good joke is you say that it's a good joke afterwards two days you did your turtles to looking forward to it a lot so even I still haven't seen the first one yeah we, we should probably do a commentary. We probably won't. Would you rather do a commentary on the new one or do one on the original from the 90s?
Starting point is 00:37:52 That's a very good question. I kind of want to do the 90s one. Okay. I feel like I'd have kind of, but then I'd probably end up just watching it being like, I remember this. This is a good one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:01 Remember the bit where the foot soldier, foot soldiers are all teenagers in that movie, right? There's a scene where they swing an axe and they miss and he hits a circuit breaker and he gets electrocuted like he starts smoking.
Starting point is 00:38:11 That's a dead kid. That's a dead kid. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. It's pretty good. So yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:38:18 Some of the CG is a bit, again, but whatever, man. Who cares? Rocksteady, bebop, probably crank. And the director's, the guy did Earth to Echo,
Starting point is 00:38:28 which is apparently okay. Yeah. But after that is a very exciting movie, which I know you're excited for. Now You See Me 2. With Daniel Radcliffe. I'm inexplicably excited about this because Daniel Radcliffe is in it.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Look, the first one's real dumb. Yep. Like it's so dumb on so many levels but I've watched it more than once and I enjoy it that movie made you so angry the first time you saw it as well but then did you kind of settle into it
Starting point is 00:38:54 and be like this is super dumb but it's okay yeah mine must have done yeah maybe this one will make me real angry as well I don't doubt it do you reckon there's going to be
Starting point is 00:39:02 many Harry Potter references or do you think they'll just be like it's good enough that he's here isn't it what do you want from us well I don't doubt it. Do you reckon there's going to be many Harry Potter references or do you think they'll just be like, it's good enough that he's here, isn't it? What do you want from us? Well, I don't know. Is he playing? A street magician? Is he though?
Starting point is 00:39:13 Do you like street magicians? No. What don't you like about them? You know what? I don't hate street magicians, but I do hate whenever they do a TV show featuring street magicians because. Because of Criss Angel? Yes, mostly. but I do hate whenever they do a TV show featuring street magicians because, because of Chris Angel. Yes,
Starting point is 00:39:27 mostly, but also because it's, they never go. Clearly. I don't think it's the street magicians fault, but they go clearly the street magician goes out and they're like, here's my card trick. Isn't it amazing?
Starting point is 00:39:38 And then the producers or whatever are like, that's not exciting enough. Let's do this with like production tricks and camera angles and stuff like that. And we'll put effects in, clever edits, and we'll put actors in the crowd and people to be amazed or whatever. And then I never, like if you were there, it wouldn't be anything. No, you're right.
Starting point is 00:39:59 So what is left? Nothing. There's nothing left there. Chris Angel used to do. It's somebody moving their hands and then a weird edit and then people looking amazed. That's nothing. You were literally watching nothing there.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Chris Angel did a... What is it? You know, he's shown Mind Freak where he sings... Boy, do I know. He'd do a lot of that where he'd be like, I'm getting under this garbage bin and he'd put the garbage bin over him and then the camera would whip Pan up to the top of a building and he'd be like, I'm getting under this garbage bin. And he'd put the garbage bin over him. And then the camera would like whip Pan up to the top of the building.
Starting point is 00:40:28 And he'd be like, I'm up here now. But like there's clearly an edit in the headshot, like a jump cut or whatever you want to call it. Yeah. Or when you say jump cut, you mean they switch the camera off. Yes. And then he goes up to, he walks to the top of the building. And then a whole lot of people have to go, oh my God,
Starting point is 00:40:45 how did you Criss Angel that so much? Because if that were done for real. That's the best thing anybody's ever done. However they did it. Like if they were like, okay, then we've built this super fast pulley system and then we do a bit of misdirection. I get in the thing and it just shoots me up to the,
Starting point is 00:40:59 that would be amazing. Or if, even if it was just like I run around the corner and there's an elaborate mirror system and then I appear. That would still be amazing. Yes. But none of this is amazing. No.
Starting point is 00:41:12 What you've done is you've switched the camera off and he's walked off and then. And everybody's had to kind of stand around awkwardly. If it fooled people on the street, then that's a good trick. Yes. But if you only, you know what what i mean if nobody on the street was fooled and it's just like yeah i'm against it good yeah i remember once i saw i think it was david copperfield i didn't see him do it but like you heard about it i heard it i saw it on tv
Starting point is 00:41:35 he did a he made a train carriage disappear and he's like to make the illusion work better we've got all these people walk standing around the train carriage holding hands but we're gonna blindfold them i'm like well what's sure they're like so they don't know how the trick's done well that's not a trick is it yeah this is just you're showing me something on tv like if you gave like i could do that i could take a train and then get rid of it on my computer do you know what i mean like it's not difficult have i told you about the time that i went to like a variety show and there was a mentalist and I got brought on stage? You got brought on stage?
Starting point is 00:42:09 Yeah. They always pick you, don't they, for anything? Like, you always get caught on stage and stuff. I'm the audience participation magnet. Why is that? Is it your dumb face? It's my dumb face. They're like, you, sir, with the dumb face.
Starting point is 00:42:18 And I'm like, oh, I don't have to. People aren't going to. The rest of the audience is not going to enjoy this show if I argue, but I guess I've got a dumb face. But I got brought up on stage. Have I not talked about this on the podcast? I don't remember. Well, I got brought up on stage, right?
Starting point is 00:42:32 And he was like, okay, close your eyes. And basically, he was like, close your eyes and just focus, focus on my voice, focus on my voice. And I felt like two taps on my shoulder. Yeah. And I'm like, and he was doing some patter or whatever. He was like, focus on my voice, listen to this. And you're in a, you know, you're in space or whatever.
Starting point is 00:42:54 How was it? And I felt, yeah, I was in space. It was real groovy, man. Oh, my God. Yeah. And I felt these two taps on my shoulder. Yeah. And he's like, right.
Starting point is 00:43:01 And he's like, now open your eyes. And I'm like, and he's like, now what, what happened there? And I'm like, there were two taps on my shoulder. And he's like, oh, your eyes. And he's like, now what happened there? And I'm like, there were two taps on my shoulder. And he's like, oh, thank you. And everybody applauded. And I'm like, what happened? My eyes were closed. And I'm like, what happened?
Starting point is 00:43:15 Were there taps? What happened? And I sat down. Was I on fire? Yeah, like what? And so I sat down. And I'm like, did I look like a real idiot up there? Like were there, did he trick me into feeling things that weren't there?
Starting point is 00:43:30 Yeah. And I Googled it and I'm like, like mentalist touch on like taps on shoulder, like all this sort of stuff. And then like, there's this, there's this trick and it's called like the invisible touch or whatever. And the premise is that you like he walks around you and like he distracts the audience and he subtly touches you on the shoulder yeah like a couple of times and then he continues to talk and then he's like now this is going to happen
Starting point is 00:43:55 and then like because your eyes are closed you like you lose your sense of time right and he you think he's like you think he's gonna you think he's touched you on the shoulder but it was it was ages ago right but you think it was because you've lost your sense of time or whatever i'm like did i look like a real idiot up there like what what happened here kind of thing yeah and so i'm like i spend the whole week going what happens i'm so mentally weak like what is this and then i ran into a friend of mine who was also at that show and he's like good work up there and I'm like
Starting point is 00:44:27 what happened and he's like okay he walked up to you and he said some stuff then he tapped you on the shoulder and then he said
Starting point is 00:44:32 open your eyes and you said you tapped me I felt a tap on my shoulder a couple of times and he went I thank you
Starting point is 00:44:40 and we all applauded because that's what you do when somebody says thank you that was polite right yeah it was just politeness like so he's he's clearly screwed that trick up and people just applauded out of politeness and confusion what was his name i don't know i can't remember anyway that's why i hate street magic all of those reasons that we talked about yeah i genuinely like magic i'm all for it yeah i love it it's great i love magic tricks i love magicians and shit americans if you see a friend of mine
Starting point is 00:45:11 his name's simon coronel uh he is an illusionist or magician he's a master of magic spells and illusions he's amazing he's a he's a friend of mine he's in america now i think yeah he's touring doing he's doing his magic stuff he's one of the guys who can say, this is how I'm going to do this trick. Yeah. Like, it's just sleight of hand. And what I do is I distract you and then I do this. Yeah. And then you watch for it and he does it anyway.
Starting point is 00:45:38 And you're like, oh, you're very good. What's his name? Simon Coronel is his name. So, yeah, check that guy out. Sounds great. Yeah. More for that. Yeah. We should talk to him. I mean, you can very good. What was his name? Simon Coronel is his name. So go check that guy out. Sounds great. Thank you all for that. We should talk to him. I mean, you can talk to him.
Starting point is 00:45:49 I want to talk to him. He's the devil, though. You don't want to. Oh, no. He'll trick you. He'll touch you all over your shoulders. You don't want that. Speaking of the devil.
Starting point is 00:45:58 Yes. Well, actually, we'll see how this turns out. Okay. Warcraft. That's, that's, yeah, that's the response
Starting point is 00:46:06 most people kind of have. It's like, like I want it to be something. Yeah. But is it going to be anything?
Starting point is 00:46:14 I like the director a lot. Talking about Duncan Jones, I like the cast. Yeah. I don't know if it's going to work.
Starting point is 00:46:20 I don't know if it's going to be anything. Yeah. I think there's going to be a couple of big action set pieces. Yep. We're going to. I think there's going to be a couple of big action set pieces. Yep. We're going to, I think they're going to be like, well,
Starting point is 00:46:29 look how realistic these orcs are. Don't you feel bad for them? You know, isn't it? Look, there's heroes and villains on both sides. Who do you choose? And then we're supposed to feel for these characters and then there's a big battle and you're like, oh, great. And then it's going to be the end.
Starting point is 00:46:45 And then sequel. I don't feel anything for these characters. And I wonder if you really love World of Warcraft or you love the Warcraft games in the universe, if you care about these characters or if you're like, they've ruined these. Right. Because I can't tell, right?
Starting point is 00:47:01 Yeah, that's it. Have they taken too many liberties i don't know maybe this is 100 accurate we'll see independence day research on very excited me too weirdly i didn't care about this until i saw the trailer and then i went oh no i care about this a lot yeah i'll pay for warcraft i want to support it i want it to be good by the way okay i'm all for it i like duncan jones he's me too he's great and even if he missteps whatever do something else give him a star wars yeah though if he if he fucks this up they won't give him the star yeah it's what what's what happened with fantastic four they gave that
Starting point is 00:47:35 guy a star wars and they bloody took away the star that's that's the carrot and the stick these days yeah independence day research on I didn't realise, I mean, no, I knew this. I love seeing bloody, what's his name? Jeff Goldblum. Why isn't he in a movie a year? Why am I not seeing him
Starting point is 00:47:54 in everything? He's semi-retired. Yeah, he probably is. But like, he pops up occasionally and is like a side part or whatever, you know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:02 I just think he's great. He should be in everything. He seems like the kind of character who would show up looking puzzled. There's like an entourage. Yes. Like as a guest appearance. Like he doesn't do any, like he's just walking down a corridor.
Starting point is 00:48:15 Like they pay him like half a million dollars and he walks down a corridor and he's like, hey, Vinny, you know? And Vinny's like, hey, Jeff Goldblum, we're friends. Jurassic Park. Yeah, exactlyum we're friends Jurassic Park yeah exactly Turtle says Jurassic Park yeah
Starting point is 00:48:28 that's normally how these movies go yeah and then Johnny Drama relates a story that maybe happened to him that he was in like a minor part
Starting point is 00:48:35 or he was in like a rip off version right like he was in Cretaceous Village or whatever you know and then he gets
Starting point is 00:48:43 a backhanded compliment by Goldbloom. Yeah. And then Goldbloom collects his check on camera. And he leaves. He gets in his waiting car that's at the end of the hall and he drives away. Yeah. Great.
Starting point is 00:48:54 All for it. There's a Hemsworth in it. Will Smith was apparently a bit annoyed. I didn't know there was a Hemsworth in it. Yeah. Which one? The third one. No.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Liam. Not Chad. Liam, yeah. Liam, okay, right. Yeah, like the president's back, but he's a crazy man he's the randy quaid kind of crazy man yeah because the alien was in his mind probably it's a ship as big as the earth which might be too big might be too big depends how big the alien is that's true good point maybe it's all alien maybe it's like 90 i'm super excited like i don't know if this
Starting point is 00:49:20 is going to be great but i want to see how they try and top the last one. Yeah, it probably isn't going to be great. Is the last one still impressive? Probably not. Okay. I don't know. I don't want to... Because that blew minds. I remember.
Starting point is 00:49:34 Totally. Yeah, it did. It was like Star Wars. Yeah. It was like another Star Wars. Yeah. Like Avatar. Except people remember it.
Starting point is 00:49:43 I read an article recently... About Avatar's no cultural impact. It's got no cultural impact. Isn't that amazing? Like it made billions of dollars. The most money of any movie ever. Hasn't Force Awakens surpassed it now? Not yet.
Starting point is 00:49:55 Domestically, it has in the US. Okay. But not worldwide. No. And it hasn't come out in China. I really hope it does. Yeah, me too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:01 Yeah, like... I want Disney to have a win for once, man. Yeah, it'd be good, wouldn't it? Yeah, what were you going to say about this article? I don't have it here, but basically, yeah, it's... Yeah. Avatar made the most money of any movie. No one remembers or cares about it.
Starting point is 00:50:16 Isn't that fascinating? That's so... No one knows the names of the characters. Yeah. It's incredible. Nobody cosplays as them at conventions. No, it's a lot of paint. So much paint. Probably stilts. Yeah. You've got to make at conventions. No, it's a lot of paint. So much paint.
Starting point is 00:50:25 Probably stilts. You've got to make the choice. Do I wear stilts? Because then you sort of have to bulk up the rest of your body a little bit. You need arms, stilts. You need long arms, yeah. You know that robot that walks past Han Solo at the Maz Kanata's castle? The clunks past?
Starting point is 00:50:39 I don't know if you remember in the Force Awakens. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a bloody dude on stilts. There you go. I'm like, what? Unless it isn't. Unless I read thatens. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a bloody dude on stilts. There you go. I'm like, what? Unless it isn't. Unless I read that wrong. Anyway, July.
Starting point is 00:50:48 Great. Which is our winter. Deep, dark winter. BFG movie. See the trailer for that? No. Do you know the BFG? The Big Friendly Giant.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Yeah. I'm aware of it. The Roald Dahl book. Yeah. I love his books. And you know what? His kind of autobiographies are really good as well. Like Boyan going solo about his life and his adventures during World War II.
Starting point is 00:51:09 That dude is amazing. Really? And dead. So dead. So dead. But yeah, like his life stories. I do love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Fuck that movie.
Starting point is 00:51:17 Whoa. It's garbage. Is it? I haven't seen it in like 20 years. Yeah. I don't think he did that. He wrote it. No, he didn't.
Starting point is 00:51:24 He wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I'm going to prove that, but he didn't. Maybe I'm thinking of Ian Fleming. Did Ian Fleming write Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? He may have. It's some old dead guy. Sorry, I apologize. Screenplay by Roald Dahl.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Story by Ian Fleming. So in a way, we both lose. We're both winners. Yeah, BFG. Spielberg's doing it. Okay. I can't remember who the giant is, but I was like, just get James Cromwell. But they didn't get him.
Starting point is 00:51:48 They got a different guy. But I'm sure he'll be fine. Yeah. After that, though, Legend of Tarzan. Wait, we've skipped over the BFG very quickly. Have we? Yeah. What do you want to talk about?
Starting point is 00:51:56 I'm not going to say it. No? Probably not. Oh, probably. You know what? I probably won't say it either, but I am interested to say it. It's Bill Hader as the giant. I will say it now.
Starting point is 00:52:11 No, it's not. It is. Oh, wait wait it's mark rylance is the bfg bill hater just says giant oh so he's another because have you ever read it there's other giants that are bigger than the bfg that are mean and eat people oh okay well maybe i'll see it if bill hater's in it yep all right we're in jermaine clements in it doesn't say what he's doing? Definitely a giant. Yeah. Bill Hader and Jermaine Clements have that kind of... You know what? Every male character in this is an odd-looking character actor. Yes. So they're all giants. They're all odd-looking giants.
Starting point is 00:52:35 Adam Godley, I've never seen this guy. He's an odd-looking dude. Yep. See, they all... No, okay. They're either all giants or weird weird villagers I guess sure there's a guy in this
Starting point is 00:52:47 there's an actor in this his name is Olafur Dari Olafson oh I see that guy oh god he's got so many weird characters and he plays himself it says
Starting point is 00:52:56 as Olafur Olofsson yeah so he plays himself that's amazing yeah I'm all for all of this he's a palace guardsman
Starting point is 00:53:04 I don't know are there kings and shit in this oh Callum Airlie So he plays himself. That's amazing. Yeah, I'm all for all of this. It's a palace guardsman. I don't know, there's like kings and shit in this. Oh, Callum Airlie is the Danish boy. There you go. Ooh. I don't know who that is. All right, great. I probably still won't say it if I'm honest with you.
Starting point is 00:53:16 Sure, fair enough. Unless there's some wacky improv between Hayter and Clement. Yes. Oh, what if they're... Tell you what, if Hayter and Clement are like two giants who are mean but they're also best friends yes I'll say it
Starting point is 00:53:27 alright good alright give me the heads up are there any Roald Dahl books you want to see adapted that they haven't adapted yet Gritty Reboot of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Starting point is 00:53:34 I want to see that but it's more Knight Rider Hasselhoff or the kid in the new Knight Rider TV series who's like the worst guy in the world oh that guy was so bad
Starting point is 00:53:44 I don't know I'll keep you updated please do Bill Hader yeah all right Legend of Tarzan
Starting point is 00:53:50 oh yeah another one of these yeah I'm more excited for this than Jungle Book really
Starting point is 00:53:55 yeah but but um what's his name the guy who did Iron Man's Jungle Book Favreau yeah
Starting point is 00:54:02 oh bloody don't bury the lead on that, mate. Tell me that on Front Street. Come on. What are you doing? I'm going to look at The Legend of Tarzan, see who the director is, and see if it's comparable. Okay. Comparable.
Starting point is 00:54:13 Directors Steve... Zahn? No, actually, I'm looking at the wrong year. 2016. Steve Zahn. That'd be great, I think. I don't know. David Yates.
Starting point is 00:54:23 Okay. He's done some stuff. Give me an example of stuff. He's done some't know. David Yates. Okay, he's done some stuff. Give me an example of stuff. He's done some of the Harry Potters. Okay. And he's done Tarzan. This one. Not another Tarzan movie.
Starting point is 00:54:32 It's not his passion project to keep doing Tarzan movies. Until he gets one, right? It's highly possible. He's purchased the rights and he's just going to keep making them. No, he's done pretty much all. He's done TV stuff. Yeah. British TV stuff, it looks like.
Starting point is 00:54:47 Four Harry Potter movies. And then this. And he's also doing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Okay. Which we will talk about. I wonder if he's producing that or he's directing. No, he's directing. There you go.
Starting point is 00:54:55 Well, the guy's busy. After that, though, we've got Ghostbusters. Oh, do you want to pay for it? Do you want to pay for it? Do you want to put some money out? Put some money on Front Street? Cash up? Cashola?
Starting point is 00:55:02 Yeah, I'll pay for that one. All right. Yeah. Yeah. Even though you just went on like a 10-minute rant how you hate pulp. I don't hate them. That's what I'm saying, though. I don't hate them.
Starting point is 00:55:10 But I'm amazed that people still make them because nobody sees them. Fair. Do you reckon people are going to see the Ghostbusters movie? Yes. Do you think it'll be good? Me too. I think it's going to be good. I hope it's good.
Starting point is 00:55:21 If it's even as good as Spy, which is Paul Feig's last one. I didn't super love Spy, but I thought it had a lot of funny moments. He got some very good performances out of everybody, mostly Jason Statham, doing his best Jason Statham impression. I think this is going to be good. If Jason Statham was a Ghostbuster, that would be the best. Man. Yep, I'm all for it.
Starting point is 00:55:43 I'm in. What about Star Trek Beyond? Yep. I mean, I'm in, but it looks pretty balls. No, it the best. Man. Yep, I'm all for it. I'm in. What about Star Trek Beyond? Yep. I mean, I'm in, but it looks pretty balls. No, it looks great. You're wrong. No, the trailer looks balls. No, the trailer looks great. You're wrong. No, I'm not wrong. Everybody else is right.
Starting point is 00:55:58 You're wrong. Again, the trailer was cut exclusively for me, apparently, because it looks super fun. It's got a little Beastie Boys track in it. Nah. It's intended as a... What's it intended as? They mentioned it a super fun. It's got a little Beastie Boys track in it. Nah. It's intended as a... What's it intended as? Like a... They mentioned it a while back. Guardians of the Galaxy.
Starting point is 00:56:09 They want to make it like Guardians of the Galaxy. So on board with this. But we have a Guardians of the Galaxy. It's called Star Wars. That's so true. Look, I want it to be good. Great. Because, you know, I liked the reboot a lot.
Starting point is 00:56:20 Didn't care if it went to darkness. So if this is good, good. It's going to be so good. I wish the trailer was good, though. It's good, though good it takes a leap onto a cliff we talked about that yeah yeah now this is a little british fingers couldn't couldn't hold onto a cliff edge not a crumpet mate yeah um in july we've also got what's called untitled fifth born film so well that's a great start that it doesn't even have a title and it's the start of the year. Great start for everyone. The director's back, I think, whoever does those.
Starting point is 00:56:48 Most of them, maybe Greengrass, I want to say. Sure, it's almost certainly Greengrass. Maybe not him. Yep. You know what? People remember them fondly. They're pretty samey. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:01 We've talked about this before. Here's the thing about if you have a conversation about the Bourne movies people remember them very fondly yep but then they remember that they're talking about a different one they'll be like I love that first one remember the time his his wife cat was off the bridge and drove off the pier and she was killed and then he had to walk through and then you're like oh that's the second the second one. That's the second one, yeah. Remember that time he was on the streets and they're trying to chase him through the streets and then a bus goes past and he's gone?
Starting point is 00:57:30 Yeah, I remember that. That's all of them. Maybe, do you remember the one with Julia Stiles? All of them. All of them, exactly. The director of the first one didn't do the, I think Paul Greengrass did the second two, but not the first one.
Starting point is 00:57:41 But the first one is the best one. And that movie also ruined everything for a while it ruined all action movies for a while that's right which is odd because it this is it started so pioneering yeah and now nobody cares yeah it's all like taken three and the transporter four and well that was that was born in 2002 so 13 years ago wow yeah i would i reckon that one still holds up. He shoots Clive Owen in the arms. That's true, yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:08 Or maybe that's the second one. Maybe that's the second one. He stabs that guy in the hand with a pen. Yeah, that is the first one. That is the, yeah, that's the moment where people are like, oh, this is. This is something, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:18 Yeah, okay. Because I remember it came out around the same time as Die Another Day and people were like, what is this shit? Right. Compared to like Born, anyway. But yeah, so it's been 13 years and I think now we're going to get all Kingsman
Starting point is 00:58:31 stuff, but no one's going to do it as well as Kingsman. So we're just going to get that for another 13 years and then we'll get a different thing. Great. Probably Die Another Day again. Great. August. Suicide Squad. Very excited. Me too.
Starting point is 00:58:48 I'm well on board for this. More so than Batman v Superman. I think it looks great. Do you think we're going to get any Joker-Robin revelations in Batman v Superman? I think they'll be like, what happened to the Robin?
Starting point is 00:59:03 Because that's some revelations that are maybe still on the... They're still... They're holding them back. Yeah. Well, you see the Robin suit. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah. I think we'll get mentions of it.
Starting point is 00:59:14 You'll get him looking in the middle distance and being sad. That's right. Yeah. And because even in like The Dark Knight Returns, he mentions Jason Todd and he's like, you don't want this to happen. Same thing happened to Jason Todd. And he's like, he was a good soldier or whatever right so i think maybe we'll get stuff like that and then in this one it's gonna they'll kind of tell that story kick off
Starting point is 00:59:33 yeah it's gonna bloody kick off exactly that's right i'm very excited everybody gets a monster energy drink when they come in the theater stamp them right up yeah look i'm also happy that it's not like a batman or a superman movie even or a Superman movie. Even though Batman is in it. Thank you, Warner Brothers, for kind of doing something else than another Batman movie. Even though we're going to get more Batman movies and that's okay. But great, try some other stuff. Please.
Starting point is 00:59:56 It doesn't have to be all Batman and Superman. You have so many amazing properties and this is just one of the potential things you could do. And it looks like they're unfolding a whole lot of them. And if this is great, which i think it will be awesome and if it's not well everyone can just talk about his ledger for another 10 years or whatever sure that's right which is fine yeah i i'm not sold on the joker's look but i think he'll put in a really good performance all of that yeah what else do you have to say
Starting point is 01:00:22 i want to see what kind of boomerangs captain boomerang has that's a good question it is a good question isn't it maybe it's just standard boomerangs because it's gritty they're just all wooden boomerangs i don't like that yeah no they'll do some stuff i reckon it'll be regular boomerangs i reckon it'll be razor boomerangs because it's gritty yes and a couple of exploding and that's it i can there'll be one that will stick in a wall and then explode yeah that'd be great. How do you think Will Smith is dead shot? I'm okay with it.
Starting point is 01:00:49 I think he'll spend a lot of time with his mask off because that's kind of the way it goes. No, I think it'd be great. Or terrible. He'll be good. Do you think we'll hear about more on-set Joker hijinks from Jared Leto? I don't want to hear any of that.
Starting point is 01:01:01 Not breaking character? I don't want to hear it. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of his shit. No. I mean, yes, we will. There breaking character? I don't want to hear it. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of his shit. No. I mean, yes, we will. There'll be all sorts of press interviews where they're like,
Starting point is 01:01:09 you got really into the role. Oh, do you think he's going to stay in the role? Do you think he's going to stay in the role for the press conferences? No, I think he's out. He's out now. Oh, that's a shame.
Starting point is 01:01:16 Yeah. That would have been great, though. Yes, it would be. Weird creep. He's a weird creep, isn't he? Now, also in August, I didn't look up this movie. I just saw it in the list,
Starting point is 01:01:24 but there's a movie called Sausage Party So I don't know If that's going to be any good What? It's on Wikipedia Let's look it up Okay
Starting point is 01:01:32 Wait I'm kind of reluctant to Google Sausage Party But let's see how Okay now here we go No I'm Okay You got it? Google's found it for me
Starting point is 01:01:39 Oh Seth Rogen's in it James Franco Jonah Hill 3D computer adult animated comedy film. What? Yeah. Okay, yeah. Seth Rogen wrote some of it.
Starting point is 01:01:51 Jonah Hill's in it. Franco. Yeah. Michael Cera. Selma Hayek. Okay. Edward Norton's in this. Michael Cera.
Starting point is 01:02:00 David Krumholtz. What is this? The guy from Numbers. Kristen Wiig's in it. Nick Kroll is in this. All right. I don't know. This could go either way.
Starting point is 01:02:09 Having not heard one sausage's quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale. Wait. This is Wikipedia, which doesn't lie. Why is it? It says page issues, though.
Starting point is 01:02:28 Sure, no doubt. Why is the one sausage called sausage? What are the other sausages called? It says one sausage. It doesn't say his name. Oh, his name's not one sausage. Okay, good. Frank a sausage.
Starting point is 01:02:39 Frank. Frank a sausage. Like a sausage. Very good. Yeah, I get it. Great. Johnny Hill as Carl, also a sausage. Kristen Wigg as a hot dog bun. That's weird. Oh, that's, I get it. Great. Johnny Hill is Carl, also a sausage. Kristen Wigg is a hot dog bun.
Starting point is 01:02:47 That's weird. Oh, that's going to be it. Nothing like any of that. This feels an awful... I feel we've been tricked here. This cannot possibly be real. I don't know, man. I just saw the name.
Starting point is 01:03:01 Where have you found this, though? In the list of movies coming out. Where's this list come from? From Wikipedia. I think this is a conspiracy that goes real deep. All right. It's on IMDb as well. I reckon somebody's done this to see how many podcasts
Starting point is 01:03:17 are going to be tricked by it. Like they've gone, okay, everybody's going to have what they're looking forward to this year, and they're all going to look at Wikipedia to see what, what is, what's coming up. And I'm going to put this in and I'm going to get them all. I think this is real. I don't know, man. I'm in.
Starting point is 01:03:34 All right. Reluctantly. Cause I want to know what this is. I don't think there's ever been a food based adult comedy animated movie. Edward Norton as Sammy Bagel Jr. A bagel. Cannot be real. Cannot be real.
Starting point is 01:03:50 Salma Hayek is playing Teresa Tarko. No. All right, we'll see, won't we? Bill Hader's playing Guacamole. I don't like this at all. This is definitely a trick. No. Not on board?
Starting point is 01:04:03 Well, there's an interview on hit fix so maybe you're getting to the bottom of this it's just a rabbit worried it's god i don't know about this also even if it's real and i'm not saying it is yeah it's definitely made up is it any gonna be any good no because it seems if simply something you'd make make up when you're high. Exactly. This sounds like Rogan or somebody has a whole bunch of microphones. You know what? I bet James Franco has a whole bunch of microphones in his house. He just records things because he's a weird dude, right?
Starting point is 01:04:39 He's a weird dude and he's sometimes arty, but he's mostly just cashing a check, right? Yeah. He's got a whole bunch of microphones. Somebody was like, hey, why don't you put a whole bunch of microphones and cameras in your house for some art thing? And he's like, good idea. For some art thing, good.
Starting point is 01:04:50 Some art thing, that's what I like. People like it when I do art things. Yeah. And he's just put it on. Everybody's gotten high and they've just been like, imagine if I was a sausage and this and they've just improvised dialogue for 90 minutes
Starting point is 01:05:02 and they've just sent it to DreamWorks or whoever. They're like, do this. Do this. That's what this is. So it could either be funny. You know what? It could be really funny. Or stone and mountains.
Starting point is 01:05:12 But it could be totally garbage. Totally garbage, yeah. Yeah. I don't like stone and movies. Assuming it's real. Yes. But it's not real. You know, stone and movies.
Starting point is 01:05:20 I just don't like them. I don't find them funny at all. Pineapple Express? No, see, that's... I don't consider that a stoner movie. That's people... I mean, like, movies that are made being like, you'll love this if you're stoned.
Starting point is 01:05:30 Right, right. You'll love it. That's what I'm talking about. Like, that kind of shit. Like Speed Racer. Yeah, like Speed Racer. Like, bloody, dude, where's my car? And that kind of stuff.
Starting point is 01:05:37 It's like, oh, you know, because it's the kind of thing you go and get blazed and you go in and you watch it because you're a dickhead. Shut up. All right. September. September. The Magn a dickhead. Shut up. All right. September. The Magnificent Seven. Really?
Starting point is 01:05:48 It's back. It's back. Initially, I'm like, but then I saw some of the cast. Okay. Denzel Washington. Chris Pratt. Yul Brynner,
Starting point is 01:05:55 back from the dead. Ethan Hawke. Hey, can you start again? I wasn't listening because I was trying to remember Yul Brynner's name so I could say this back from the dead. Good, good.
Starting point is 01:06:02 Can you start again? Denzel Washington. Okay. Chris Pratt. Yeah, okay. Ethan Hawke. Ooh. Vinny D.
Starting point is 01:06:08 Vincent D'Onofrio. Ooh. Yeah, there's others. But that's great. Awesome. Does Vinny D have a big white horse? He must. He's got a Clydesdale.
Starting point is 01:06:16 Oh, that's great. Or maybe a rhinoceros. Yeah. And this isn't a modern day retelling. I don't think so. I hope not because I don't want any of that. No. We've got a modern day retelling I don't think so I hope not Because I don't want any of that No We've got a modern day retelling
Starting point is 01:06:27 Probably already It's probably something that Jet Li did I don't know Almost certainly You're absolutely right I bet there is one I bet it's just Yeah
Starting point is 01:06:37 But it's just called Magnificent Yeah I get what you're saying But also of course Magnificent Seven is based off The Seven Samurai and whatever. It all goes back. Which is based on Star Wars.
Starting point is 01:06:47 Yes, that's right. Time is cyclical. And also, Star Wars was from a really long time ago. So that's how that goes. Yep, I want to see that. I haven't seen anything about it. When was the last time you saw the Magnificent Seven? A while ago, but I like that era of filmmaking.
Starting point is 01:07:00 Yeah. I like your Yul Brynners and your, I was going to say Steven Sakala.ala don't like him he's potentially a rapist and a terrible person even if he's not um and what's his name steve mcqueen yep and paul newman and robert redford i love all that stuff so yeah i like all that yep yes do you think they're gonna have a robert redford cameo oh that'd be cool yes no probably not but he's not in that he's in um starsky and hutch that's true it's a movie it's amazing i love it butch cassidy and the sundance i love it it's a great movie you're gonna edit the part where you said starsky and hutch no okay i'm not because that ruins a lot of your credibility like i felt in saying those three words a lot of your credibility fell into
Starting point is 01:07:44 the toilet and That's okay. I'm okay with it. I am who I am. Yeah, true. There we go. October, Gambit. Wait, can we talk about more about Magnificent Seven? Sure.
Starting point is 01:07:51 What do you want to say? Looks good. That'd be pretty good. Yeah. I hope it's fun loving Denzel Washington. Sure. Because sometimes he's in, like he's in American Gangster
Starting point is 01:07:59 and he's all very serious. Yeah. I want fun Denzel Washington. Do you want Man on Fire Denzel Washington? Was he fun enough for you? He did put that bomb in that guy's butt. Did he? That's pretty fun. Yeah. I want fun Denzel Washington. Do you want Man on Fire Denzel Washington? Was he fun enough for you? He did put that bomb in that guy's butt. Did he? That's pretty fun, yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:08 I don't remember that one. He put a bomb in a guy's butt. He's like, give me the information or I'll blow up the bomb in your butt. I should have called it Bomb in Your Butt. Yeah. What about, did you see The Pacifier? Liam Neeson should be in The Magnificent Seven.
Starting point is 01:08:20 No, because he was in that bloody, the guy who did Ted, that Seth MacFarlane Western. Oh, Million Ways to Die. Yeah, he's in that. So he's the bad guy in that. See, Magnificent, what I appreciate in this is it's, Expendables feels like they were like,
Starting point is 01:08:39 let's make a Magnificent Seven. Let's get some names and just smash them together and see if they work. This feels a lot more like we want this to work as an actual movie. We'll get some people
Starting point is 01:08:50 who might work well together. Exactly. And maybe it will. Yep. Look, I'm not a big fan of modern westerns in general. Okay. But yeah, I'm on board.
Starting point is 01:08:58 Pretender Human? That was great. I was going to say, that's an exception. That's the standout. And of course, Cowboys vs. Aliens. Yep.
Starting point is 01:09:04 Nah, it's not that good. I didn't say it. Yes, you did. No, I didnout. And of course, Cowboys vs. Aliens. Yep. No, it's not that good. I didn't say it. Yes, you did. No, I didn't. We saw it together. Not true. Jon Favreau. Yeah, you saw it with Jon Favreau.
Starting point is 01:09:12 I did. Harrison Ford? I didn't say it. Really? Yeah. Yeah, you don't have to say it. I brought a decoy in and sat it next to you, put a little pizza on the top. You didn't notice.
Starting point is 01:09:22 I didn't notice. Stop eating your pizzas in the cinema. He always orders a pizza because you can order a pizza in some of the cinemas we go to. Yeah, a little pizza on the top. You didn't notice. I didn't notice. Stop eating your pizzas in the cinema. He always orders a pizza because you can order a pizza in some of the cinemas we go to. Yeah, a little pizza. But the cinema will give them to you and they always have four slices
Starting point is 01:09:31 and he never gives me one. Even though he'd have three slices left. They're tiny slices. You still have three quarters of a pizza, which is plenty. You could give me some of that pizza. It's fine. Next time I'll give you a slice of pizza.
Starting point is 01:09:46 They have to make it up it's got like a little packet a little bit of cheese they're very they're not happy to do it they're not frozen ones they make it like a tiny little pizza
Starting point is 01:09:53 like the size of a coaster and he never shares that's fine I don't really want it it looks like garbage it's great also we've got Gambit in October
Starting point is 01:10:03 I don't know there's no trailer. There's no pictures. There's nothing. Yeah. This is the untitled Bourne project of X-Men movies. But, you know, it's fine. Have we even seen him in costume?
Starting point is 01:10:13 No. Is it still Channing Tatum? Yeah. Because remember they switched the director recently? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they got someone who I was like, oh, it's fine. Is he still doing his card tricks? Like every day he's practicing his card tricks?
Starting point is 01:10:24 He guarantees it. Very good. Yeah. You've seen nothing. That's so weird. I don't know oh, it's fine. Is he still doing his card tricks? Like every day he's practicing his card tricks? He guarantees it. Very good. Yeah. You've said nothing. That's so weird. I don't know anything about it, but yeah, I want to see it. Yeah, me too. He's kind of like the American Daniel Craig because he also has a potato head.
Starting point is 01:10:36 That's very true. Thank you. You know what I would kind of appreciate in this? I would kind of like to see this more as like a New Orleans mystery kind of movie. Oh, okay. Like a minimal, like a little bit of it. Yeah. You're like, I wonder when, like you'd know when he brings those cards out, it's going to be trouble.
Starting point is 01:10:53 You don't want to see a dude in a dumb, like cut out sock mask with a stick. Have we seen the sock mask at all? No. Okay. But so, yeah. Okay. I understand that. But you don't want to see like Gambit Gambit.
Starting point is 01:11:04 You want to see a small time Gambit story? Yeah, more like he's a... I don't think we're going to get that. We're definitely not going to get that. Because the budget... Oh boy. Is, I want to say $200 million. Yeah, he's going to be shooting down helicopters, isn't he?
Starting point is 01:11:17 This could very easily become X-Men Origins Wolverine. I didn't remember if it's Wolverine Origins or Origins Wolverine. Doesn't matter. So I'm trying to find the budget. I just accidentally clicked on the thing where it said X-Men, all films, and it's like, budget, $1 billion. I'm like, what? Probably not going to spend that much.
Starting point is 01:11:31 No. Gambit, the Gambit. I'm pretty sure it's like $200 million or at least like $120. So I think we're not going to get that. You don't need that kind of money for a Gambit movie. That's exactly what I'm saying. I reckon it'd be better if he's just driving a fan boat fan boat around new orleans you know what i mean with principal skinner yeah yeah yeah more for it what about underworld next generation they're doing another one of them
Starting point is 01:11:54 the next generation who's still in it is beckinsale still in it she's still in it yeah wow so she's like she's like the headmistress of vampire school. Yeah, no, look, I have no... They're fine. They're completely harmless, these movies. It's fine. In a way, they're not harmless, though. Why is that?
Starting point is 01:12:15 Because people see them and then get sick of vampire movies. That's true. I think it's... Oh, Charles Dance is in it. Well. And Anna Forrester is the director, and she hasn't directed the other one. Oh, she directed White House Down. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 01:12:30 I'm back on board. I mentioned earlier that I liked White House Down. You did. That's how I thought it was, because normally it's Kate Beckinsale's husband. Yes, Len Weissman. Len Weissman. Weissman. Weissman.
Starting point is 01:12:40 Weissman. Because he's still in the bad books for making that Total Recall reboot that nobody cared about. What about Jack Reacher, Never Go Back? Well, first of all, they've stolen the title of our very popular and never updated YouTube series, Never Go Back. We've got to do one soon, aren't we? We've talked about it. Yes.
Starting point is 01:12:58 It's summer. We've got some time off. We're going to do it at some point. I've also got one in the can i've been holding off for like six months which i've been meaning to put out great apologies i don't care about this i didn't say the first one me neither it's the same director i think as the latest mission impossible movie chris mcquarry okay sure yeah but again i'm gonna double check this i know i've gone back on my whole don't look up what people do anymore.
Starting point is 01:13:25 I know. Well, I've got this laptop now. This sweet laptop. Look, I'll wait. I'll wait for a trailer. Yeah, sure. Look, I like- Oh, no, sorry. It's Edward Zwick.
Starting point is 01:13:31 I apologize. It was Zwick. What's Zwick ever done? Love and Other Drugs. Nope. Tom Cruise's The Last Samurai. Okay. It's balls.
Starting point is 01:13:40 Defiance. It's kind of balls. The Siege. No. Cut Bank. Yeah, but that's it. He's a producer. Okay. I don't know. It doesn't matter.. The Siege. No. Cut Bank. Yeah, but that's it. He's a producer. Okay.
Starting point is 01:13:47 It doesn't matter. Look, I'll wait for a trailer. I didn't see the last one because... I did Blood Diamond. I don't mind that. Okay. I love Leonardo DiCaprio's South African accent. South African.
Starting point is 01:13:57 He's not very good. He's not good. Yeah. Look, I'll give it a shot. Sure. He did Legends of the Fall. Ugh. No. I'm out again. Look I'll give it a shot Sure He did Legends of the Fall Ugh No I'm out again
Starting point is 01:14:08 November We're nearly there Doctor Strange Isn't it weird that Jack So the premise of Jack Reacher Is he's like Like a six foot four Man mountain
Starting point is 01:14:16 Yeah And then they got Tom Cruise Yeah It's weird right It's the opposite of those things Yes Yeah November Doctor Strange
Starting point is 01:14:22 Great Great I mean love it All for it i haven't seen a trailer we should see one soon actually maybe or maybe they'll wait till after civil war maybe they'll wait till after doctor strange potentially yep all for it great what about fantastic beasts and where do fantastic beasts them it's intriguing isn't it no okay then the trailer was not very good i'll see it yeah i Yeah, I'll see it too. Yeah, great.
Starting point is 01:14:45 December. Ooh. Rogue One. Yeah. Very excited. Me too. Rogue One. They released a synopsis recently.
Starting point is 01:14:52 Mads Mikkelsen plays Galen something, and he designed the Death Star, but he's kind of like an Oppenheimer kind of guy. And so he's kind of like, I've made this, but this is clearly a terrible mistake. So then he enlists the help of his daughter, who's Felicity Jones, and others to kind of steal the plans. Great. Even though he probably knows the plans because he built it.
Starting point is 01:15:11 Yeah. Sure. I'm all for it. Me too. It's very exciting. I'm excited to see something different in Star Wars. You know what I mean? Not just kind of another kind of, what's the Skywalker's doing?
Starting point is 01:15:22 Don't get me wrong. I really liked Force Awakens, but something different. And we get a Mads Mikkelsen action figure. Yeah. Did you see someone posted on Twitter that Krix Maydean's beard is fake? It's pasted on. It's glued on. I was too busy looking at his dumb hair.
Starting point is 01:15:36 Me too. So there's some, because I thought, oh, maybe they've already released that Mads Mikkelsen action figure. Yeah. Because it was like, there's a character. Who's Cannon Jarus? Cannon Jarus. Is there an action figure? Cannon Jarus.
Starting point is 01:15:51 He's from Rebels. Ah, that makes sense. He's voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr. Oh, there you go. Yeah. What are the Guavians? Don't know. Okay.
Starting point is 01:15:59 Top of Juice? Yeah, they're probably in that Sausage Party film. No, I just saw some action figures. Anyway. Great. Continue. You might have seen some Rebels action figures. That's probably it.
Starting point is 01:16:10 They're actually set around the same time. That Rebels TV series isn't actually bad. Okay. I'm a bit behind, but it's pretty good. Rogue One, all for it. Great. Are you all for the Assassin's Creed movie starring Michael Fass? Yes, I am.
Starting point is 01:16:22 Yeah. Why? I don't know. Have you seen the pictures? No. There's a new one where he's like in the streets. I've seen none of it. I'm going to look it up now.
Starting point is 01:16:29 All right then. Look, I've got no particular love for the Assassin's Creed universe. Because it's boring? Yep. Yep. Do we know? I'm sure we've discussed this before. Yep, future as well.
Starting point is 01:16:40 There's future stuff in it? Okay, cool. Yep. Great. I'm kind of on board with it. Yeah. Look, do you think it'll be better than Warcraft? Yes.
Starting point is 01:16:47 No doubt. It'll probably be budgeted more appropriately. Oh, it's got Marion Cotillard in it. Yeah. Yeah. Out of the two video game movies that are out this year, well, there's probably more, but maybe Sausage Party is based on some weird mini game in a bloody...
Starting point is 01:17:03 It's probably based on the classic arcade game in a in a bloody um it's probably based on the classic arcade game burger time i was gonna say a mini game in a leisure suit larry game oh yeah sure yeah yeah there was a space quest game where you had to make burgers really yeah it's called space quest yeah space quest 4 i think what's that what's that one of those games about they were fun like they were so back in the day... Go on. You had LucasArts, who made all the good adventure games. Yeah, like Day of the Tentacle. Monkey Island, et cetera.
Starting point is 01:17:31 And then you had Sierra, and they made the Leisure Suit Larry games. They made King's Quest, and they made Space Quest. Right. They made Police Quest. And they were all, like, completely... Thematically, like, tonally, they were all completely different. Like, King's Quest, epic fantasy. Police Quest, boring police stuff.
Starting point is 01:17:45 Like so boring. They get to do traffic stops on people and fill in forms. And then Space Quest was kind of the wacky one set in space. It's pretty good.
Starting point is 01:17:52 You were like a space janitor. All for it. Yeah, it was good. Great. Anyway, Assassin's Creed. I'm looking forward to it. I think it'll be good. I'm looking forward
Starting point is 01:17:59 to this Space Quest game playing that. That sounds really good. It's really good. Also, we've also got the Jumanji reboot. No, no interest. Me too.
Starting point is 01:18:08 Alright, that's all the films for the year. Great. But look. Every film. A few people have sent Independent films cancelled this year.
Starting point is 01:18:16 Get them out of here. Yeah. There are obviously other ones that haven't got everything but you know, whatever. We've got this question a few times on Twitter.
Starting point is 01:18:24 Hashtag WeeklyPlanetPod. This is from Crack at Cracks Moss. If you could see one movie this year, what would it be? Only one. One. Oh. Only one. You can start it for five minutes and then choose a different one as well.
Starting point is 01:18:37 Like it's on Netflix. Oh, really? Yeah. That's very good. Ah. This is quite tough, actually. It is. Give me yours first.
Starting point is 01:18:46 I have to say Rogue One. Yeah, okay. And I want to say Suicide Squad. Yeah. Oh, there's so many. But I'd have to because it's just nostalgia, man. It's got me. And not even that.
Starting point is 01:19:00 I want to see a different Star Wars story. That's true, yeah. This is that, hopefully. So, yeah, Rogue One. that i want to see a different star wars story that's true this is that hopefully so yeah rug one sausage party it is yes you can't decide in five seconds it's sausage party so sorry magnificent seven no yeah all right then okay interesting something you've never heard of before yeah before today denzel washington's great. Never seen anything from it. Yep. That's right.
Starting point is 01:19:27 Yep. We should look up who the director is of that, actually, because that might change your tone, like good or bad. Anton Fuqua. Oh, Anton Fuqua. That's good, because he's done Southpaw, Training Day, The Equalizer, Olympus Has Fallen. Wait a minute.
Starting point is 01:19:47 Yeah, he's done some pretty... Oh, he did Shooter. He did King Arthur. He did Tears of the Sun with Bruce Willis. Okay, I'm saying Civil War. I've changed my mind. Civil War. He's got some good stuff here, but...
Starting point is 01:19:59 Yeah. Yeah, that's Civil War again. I don't know, man. Man, that is hard to choose, though. It is. It's going to be a bloody great year. I don't know, man. Man, that is hard to choose, though. It is. It's going to be a bloody great year. I mean, who knows? We'll see, won't we?
Starting point is 01:20:10 Could be a bad year. Could be a bad year. You know what it's time for, though? Oh, what's it time for? It's time for the segment of the show where we discuss what we've been reading and... Well, what we're going to read. Correct. It's called What We're Reading, What We're Going to Read.
Starting point is 01:20:20 And then we do the theme. We say that. I'll put that in after we stop talking. There's a pause. Okay. I'm do the theme. We say that. I'll put that in after we stop talking. There's a pause. Okay. I'm doing the theme. What are we reading today? Grace.
Starting point is 01:20:36 We're back. We're back. We are. What did you do in the break just then? I watched all of Ash vs. Evil Dead. And? It's good. It's good fun.
Starting point is 01:20:43 Where's his hand come back from? What is it? Metal hand? Because he's got a hand. Because he lost his hand, didn't he? Okay. Well, spoiler alert. No.
Starting point is 01:20:51 Okay. He starts with just a wooden hand. Okay. Because, you know, he got a cut off. I know, I know. Okay, in the previous one. Yeah. He got a cut off in a wooden hand that didn't really do anything.
Starting point is 01:21:01 It was just decorative. Yeah. Then he's got like a, like a, he's, one of his sidekicks builds him like a, like a mechanical one. Cool. Like an electric, electric one. Does he just wear like a glove? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:11 Yeah. Great. Pretty much. Cool. I think Bruce Campbell was like, cause like, he's like, oh, it's this wooden hand, but I think in most scenes it's just like a brown rubber, rubber glove. Right. And he's like, can't move my hand for this scene.
Starting point is 01:21:23 But it's very, it's good. It's, it's, it's very reminiscent of the old ones it's fun it's gory um it does it does have that i think i mentioned this to you off air a while back it's got these this that weird 90s convention of where like a monster is about to kill someone and they take a very very long time yeah and they maybe they say a speech yeah and there's a lot of quick cutaways which gives it a lot of it gives so much time for like ash to put the chainsaw on and run at them and cut their head off right like you know what i mean like in like in a modern like in a more modern action or like a horror film yeah the monster
Starting point is 01:22:02 just shows up and just kills them straight up but in this they've got to do the speech and they've got to see it from all you know what I mean but it's good it's fun
Starting point is 01:22:11 but you think it works within the context of the show is it like Reaper the TV show Reaper I've never watched the first episode of Reaper I think Reaper
Starting point is 01:22:21 might have been more monster of the week yes this is more this is an ongoing story. Okay, sure. Yeah, it's good. What else?
Starting point is 01:22:27 Last week I asked people to recommend horror stuff. And they didn't. No, they did. Oh. Yeah. There you go. A whole bunch of stuff. What I've got ready to go, speaking about horror and westerns,
Starting point is 01:22:38 there was a movie called Bone Tomahawk, which came out last year. Oh, with Kurt Russell. With Kurt Russell. Yeah, I've heard good things. And a lot of people have said that's really good. Is it actually? Is it a horror, is it? Yeah, well, it says horror western. I think it's cannibals. Sweet. Oh, with Kurt Russell. With Kurt Russell. Yeah, I've heard good things. And a lot of people have said that's really good. Is it actually, is it a horror, is it? Yeah, well, it says horror western.
Starting point is 01:22:46 I think there's cannibals. Sweet. Good thing to guess. Caroline. Great, more for it. Yeah, so that's pretty good. All right, then. A lot of people have recommended some good stuff, so I'm going to get a handle on this
Starting point is 01:22:59 horror stuff. Good. I mean, it's going to be scary. I'm going to have a very scary 2016. I do want to see Bone Tomahawk. Did you end up watching The Hateful Eight? No. Okay. I'm going to be scary. I'm going to have a very scary 2016. I do want to see Bone Tomahawk. Did you end up watching The Hateful Eight? No. Okay.
Starting point is 01:23:07 I'm going to wait. I watched The Shannara Chronicles. Are you familiar with that? No. It's a series of books. It's not even said like that. But. That's probably where I was confused.
Starting point is 01:23:16 You didn't say any real words. It's basically, it's on MTV. Yeah. And it's a, it's kind of a TV series. It's a cross between like a sort of Lord of the Rings esque
Starting point is 01:23:27 Merlin-y kind of TV series it's I think Favreau produced it or something but it's also all filmed in New Zealand
Starting point is 01:23:35 so it's got like beautiful locations it's got a decent budget edit that out I'll edit it out okay cool and it's got like you know it's elves and dwarves and wizards and magic and shit.
Starting point is 01:23:48 And it's very kind of like your teen kind of soap opera kind of drama. Right. Kind of, you know, like your Teen Wolf kind of thing. Okay, sure. But it's an interesting world. And a lot of people are like, this is balls because it's not like the book or it's too teen drama-y. And both of those things are probably true. But from what I've seen the couple episodes, I'm like, yeah, this is all right.
Starting point is 01:24:05 It looks like they put a lot of effort into this. Okay. I appreciate it. But I don't know whether I'll stick with it. That is way out of left field for you, I feel. Why is that? I don't know. Because I hate everything?
Starting point is 01:24:14 Yeah. Yeah. I think I'm just, I just want Game of Thrones to come back. That's probably it. Yeah. Yeah. You're not done with Game of Thrones. You don't feel it's a lot of people.
Starting point is 01:24:22 I know a lot of people are like, I don't care anymore. It's because they've finished reading the books and they're like, well, now I can't read ahead because I'm a dickhead. Oh, yeah. True. Yeah. You're not done with Game of Thrones. You don't feel it's a lot of people. I know a lot of people are like, I don't care anymore. It's because they've finished reading the books and they're like, well, now I can't read ahead because I'm a dickhead. Oh, yeah, true. Yeah. Maybe that's it. Fuck all them people. Also, I started reading, a friend of mine gave me the Motley Crue biography.
Starting point is 01:24:37 It's by Neil Strauss. He's a very good, he's like a writer for Rolling Stone. It's very well written, but they're bad people. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Like it's a very good insight into how terrible they are yeah like there's a like nicky six is the bassist in it like very like he's like 14 years old yeah and he wants to be emancipated from his mother because
Starting point is 01:24:55 he doesn't like her so he just he goes into the house and he wrecks the house and he gets a knife and he sticks it in his arm and then he calls the cops and he's like, she did that. What? Yeah. And then they're like, and here's the thing, they're like, if you press charges, you'll go to a foster home. And he's like, oh, but I want to keep playing guitar. Like, they won't let me play guitar in a foster home. So he agrees with his mother not to press charges
Starting point is 01:25:21 if she just leave, like if he can just leave. What a bad bloke. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. Man, I'd smack the shit out of that kid. Very well written, though. I'm like, oh, you really get a sense of like, it's interesting to live vicariously through these people.
Starting point is 01:25:37 Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And it's interesting that, like, it's kind of a fun read because you know they'll become successful, I guess. Because if they didn't... It's just a sad tale. It's a sad tale of four horrible people who made a sad end. You know what I mean? Well, I feel like they did make a sad end, didn't they?
Starting point is 01:25:55 Yeah, they did, yeah. Good on them. What about... What's his name? Tommy bloody... Tommy Lee. Yeah. What's he like as a kid?
Starting point is 01:26:03 Bad bloke? He had quite a nice upbringing, it seems. Did he? Okay, cool. He just decided to be a bad bloke. Yeah. What's he like as a kid? Bad bloke? He had quite a nice upbringing, it seems. Did he? Okay, cool. He just decided to be a bad bloke. Yeah. He gets the... Thus far, he gets the least...
Starting point is 01:26:11 Like, it's individual chapters. Like, they all get a chapter each. Okay, sure. And he's gotten the least so far, I think, because he's not that interesting. In your face. Yeah. You know what it's time for also, then,
Starting point is 01:26:20 in the next segment? It's time for the letters thing. Have you got that letters segment ready to go? Letters theme! I know you do. The classic one was the letters. It's time for the letters thing. Have you got that letter segment ready to go? Letters theme! I know you do. The classic one was Letters, oh letters We love you
Starting point is 01:26:29 Some letters They're only a day away I know they're here right now. We're going to do letters. Great. Love it. It's amazing. Our friend RKM424
Starting point is 01:26:41 who might be a person or a robot or some sort of algorithm that's built that randomly who's to say but that's our latest theme i'll put it through my bloody phone i like when you play through the phone though because then i could hear it like a dance yeah you did a little dance yeah yeah uh weeklyplanetpod at gmail.com send us a letter or hashtag weeklyplanetpod on twitter oh yeah that also works this is actually the one from from the email though hey james and nick mason i'm sorry james nick and mason winking smiley face oh yeah you guys are aware of some of the fandom that's created around the riot control stormtrooper the battles finn now dubbed tr8r like traitor
Starting point is 01:27:16 traitor yeah good some sites are calling him this trilogy's boba fett keep up the good work thanks paul when can we really just spoil the hell out of Force Awakens? Next week. Oh, it's next week? Yeah. We're putting our foot down? Okay, from this point forward, listeners, weekly wackity-doos,
Starting point is 01:27:33 we're going to spoil all Force Awakens. Yes. So get onto it if you haven't already. Glad to get onto it, yeah. Because we get sent a lot of fan theories, and some are garbage, but some are amazing. And like, who's this character? And what do they represent
Starting point is 01:27:45 but we can't really get into it unless you know exactly unless you've already seen it this one I feel we can talk about
Starting point is 01:27:50 because it's in the promo stuff though as well totally yeah so Traitor is the stormtrooper who throws his gun away
Starting point is 01:27:58 and pulls out like a like a close combat like a close combat twirly baton yep that's electrified it's electrified or it's got an energy field on it or something like that and he has at finn yes and they have a and they have a sort of a hand-to-hand battle the identity of him have actually has
Starting point is 01:28:14 actually been revealed as well as in one of the the prequel kind of kids books and he was a mate of finn they kind of went to the academy oh i say right he's like you son of a bitch so this is official canon yes officially, officially. Okay. Now, we briefly talked about this before the show, and I'm like, I will put this in. But he's not the Boba Fett of the trilogy. Because he does something. Because he does something.
Starting point is 01:28:36 And he actually, he knocks him down. Yeah. He would have killed Finn if Han Solo doesn't kill him. That's true, yeah. So people, yeah, like people have built a lot of memes around this guy yeah there's like a delightful christmas theme that's right which is great yeah uh yeah no he's not that i think that he's yeah he's not because again people have built this mythology around boba fett but he never did anything no in the expanded universe maybe he did and even now in the
Starting point is 01:29:04 whatever the new expanded universe is called now he did. And even now in the, whatever the new Expanded Universe is called now, he's doing a whole bunch of stuff. But no. No, no. He's never knocked anybody down. That's true, yeah. He kind of wrapped Luke Skywalker up in a rope briefly. Yep, sure.
Starting point is 01:29:18 But then he hit the deck. But where's Luke Skywalker now? Who's to say? Mystery. Mystery, yeah. That's right. Next week we'll know. Next week we'll know.
Starting point is 01:29:24 So I heard somebody say that this character should have been Phasma. Yes. A lot of people have said that. That makes a lot more sense. It does, doesn't it? That makes it, I like how he's just this guy, this guy who comes out of nowhere. Yeah. He just looks like any other stormtrooper, except he's amazingly skilled.
Starting point is 01:29:40 Yeah. And he throws his gun away. Yeah. He probably has to fill in it. Well, if he didn't, if he wasn't killed. Yes. He'd probably have to fill in a form later. That's right, yeah. If he threw his gun away. Yeah. He probably has to fill in it. Well, if he wasn't killed, he'd probably have to fill in a form later. That's right, yeah. He'd throw his gun on the ground. So, no, I...
Starting point is 01:29:52 Yeah, he's cool. Yeah, it is interesting that Phasma didn't get... Yeah. She barely got any screen time. Yeah. But, you know, I think that's in the spirit of Boba Fett. A character that's cool that does nothing. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:03 And also, it would kind also, you know what? Because in that scene, and no spoilers, but I think that if it was Captain Phasma in that scene, it'd be very difficult to get her out of that situation without having been killed. Yeah, yeah, fair enough. And if you want her for the next couple of movies, you need her alive.
Starting point is 01:30:22 That's right, yeah. And I think she's going to do more in the sequels. I think so, yeah. Maybe she just gets winged or something hitting the shoulder it's like me shoulder i'm british i'm a british woman someone was saying i saw this awesome thing on the star wars facebook page someone was like it doesn't doesn't look like a a woman like captain phasma right like we doesn't have to wear and they responded we doesn't have to wear like girl armor right you're all right you know what i mean yeah yeah Like with like boobs. Exactly, that's what they mean.
Starting point is 01:30:47 Wear the boobs. Have you seen the red carpet? There's a lot of red carpet photos of what's her name? Gwendolyn Christie. Gwendolyn Christie and Oscar Isaac. She's so tall. And he's so short. Is he short? I don't know if he's that short. Well, she's like, she's over
Starting point is 01:31:03 six foot. She's like six three, yeah. I'm not sure. Isaac, how tall is he? Let don't know if he's that short but it's like well she's like she's over six foot she's like six three yeah i'm not isaac how tall is he let's have a look he's 174 centimeters so it's like five eight maybe okay yeah all right uh yeah this is from verinda at uh v sure gill7 on Twitter. Hashtag Weekly Planet Pod. Have you guys heard about Christopher Nolan's new film, Dunkirk? What are your thoughts? Are you familiar with this? No.
Starting point is 01:31:31 I'm going to break it down for you. So it's Christopher Nolan's next movie. The story centers on the 1940 evacuation of more than 300,000 Allied troops who were surrounded by the German army in the French city of Dunkirk. I like that. Me too. There's rumored like Tom Hardy and a few others. Tell you why I like that. Because there's no gimmick
Starting point is 01:31:47 that he can mess up. It's just a straightforward sort of time twist. There's no time twist. There's no cloning machine. There's no EMP machine. There's no machine gun that shoots bullets into a wall
Starting point is 01:31:59 and then the computer analyses the bullets in the wall machine. It's all World War II tech. There's no nuclear bomb that you've got to put on a crane and then on a bat plane and throw it in the ocean or whatever. None of that. None of that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:32:13 There are certain people that I feel would do great with just a drama. Yes. Like comic writer Garth Ennis. Okay. He wrote Hitman, he wrote Preacher, he wrote The Boys, and they're all kind of superhero-y stuff with a lot of disdain for superheroes okay and i'm always like and and prior to that i think he just did some stuff about growing up yeah like in his hometown that was really good okay and i'm like why don't you just do it like you do great human characters
Starting point is 01:32:39 why don't you just do a comic that's human characters you clearly hate superheroes you hate superheroes you don't care for them at all you like superman but i don't think he likes any others yeah but yeah but i this would be good i like all these characters that's a really good point yeah just buddy but you know what there's no there's no paycheck in that as well so i can understand if you're trying to support your family or whatever he's up to maybe he's got a drug habit he probably does i bet he does i'm letting his buddy on the gear that's what i'm saying we're talking about nolan no galf hitters no he's probably not seems like a nice guy maybe nolan's on the gear that's what i'm saying we're talking about nolan no galf hitters no he's probably not seems like a nice guy maybe nolan's on the gear that's what i'm saying potentially you've seen him recently yeah you know what also i nolan would do this movie where okay for example we talked
Starting point is 01:33:17 about um the great escape before maybe i brought it up i don't know like that story was changed for the cinema like though it's mostly american but that that was all like British and Australians and the great escape. And if this movie set in 1940, that's before the U S is like full involvement in world war one, world war two or world war one. Sure. If time is cyclical. So yeah,
Starting point is 01:33:37 I think you're going to get like a European kind of perspective on Kenneth Branagh's rumored to be in it as well. So yeah, man, I'm all for this. Do you think they'll have like director discussions? Yes, definitely. Like a bit of a stouch on set?
Starting point is 01:33:51 I think there'll be a British off. There'll be a great British off. There'll be definitely a British off. Yeah. It's Branagh, right? Yeah, definitely. Unless he's become too Hollywood. No, because I think Nolan spent a lot of time in Boston as well.
Starting point is 01:34:02 Right, okay. So, you know, yeah. I think they're going to really like... They're both going to come in top hats and tails. Yeah, they're really going to get some British reserve and be like, I've got to be the most British person on this set. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:14 I think though also studios have realised that you don't need to Americanise stories anymore to make it relevant. We're all just people, aren't we? We're all just people, man. Do you know what I mean? I think they're now giving more people credit to be like, well, they're not going to see this movie because it's a British movie. I think people will be like, well, I'll see a Christopher Nolan movie
Starting point is 01:34:31 with Tom Hardy or whatever. So I liked him in Bane, the movie Bane. All right, last thing. Hashtag We Can Plan It. I might change the name to Dunkirk is Falling, though. Yes. We got to get out of Dunkirk. My dog doing it. Oh, It's from at car... We gotta get out of Dunkirk! My dog doing a...
Starting point is 01:34:47 Oh, she's stretching. You alright? Yeah, you alright. It's from at carlozevo or at carlozevo. So it depends whatever way you want to rate it. I'm going to say carlozevo. Done.
Starting point is 01:35:00 Yeah. Is the cinematic universe movement a good influence on the movie industry the answer is no sure yeah what do you think though as in like Marvel are building their cinematic universe
Starting point is 01:35:13 and Deep Sea are building it and now Dracula's having a cinematic universe sure everybody's having a crack yeah and everything has to be tied together and Toy Story's in the same universe as Finding Nemo and cars where are the people it's the future A Toy Story is in the same universe as Finding Nemo. And cars, where are the people? It's the future of Toy Story.
Starting point is 01:35:27 That is a good question. Because I think prior to this happening, everybody's internet theories about that sort of thing was always really interesting, I found. And now it's the worst. Now it's in a way it's the worst. Yeah, look, I think it works for some genres and not others. Yes.
Starting point is 01:35:43 And I think it's very much a case of it's ruining a lot of first movies. That's the problem. That's a good answer. Every initial movie is bad because it's not even a thing. It's just... It's a step up to the next.
Starting point is 01:35:59 Yeah, it's like this is the first act in a bigger thing. I don't want the first act in a bigger thing. I want a good self-contained movie on its own. And I can see that's a criticism of Star Wars as well, the new Star Wars, that it's just kind of a whole lot of questions left unanswered to a bigger thing as well. But yeah, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not careful then, I guess.
Starting point is 01:36:19 Whatevs. Because, you know, like A New Hope is very much self-contained. Yeah, exactly. And the other Star Wars movies aren't, so. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm, I'm New Hope is very much self-contained. Yeah, exactly. And then again, the other Star Wars movies aren't, so. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm against it. You're against it. No, I'm for it.
Starting point is 01:36:30 Depending on the property. Depending on the property, yeah. Again, don't give us this. Like if Tarzan comes out and it's just a precursor to Tynan, whoever else Tarzan's pals with. You know what I mean? Jane, maybe a centaur, depending on what version. Doc Savage.
Starting point is 01:36:47 Is he in the same universe? Probably, I don't know. Probably. Yeah. Yeah, no, you're right. You're right. I think you're okay to do that if you get a good one out of the gate. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:36:55 Like make a good one and then maybe have a little bit of a hint that there might be something else. Yeah. Look, if there's a rule for this, give me a good first movie. That's like a self-contained one. Yeah. Yeah. I agree with you.
Starting point is 01:37:10 And that's the show for this week. I would definitely. And that's the show for this week. Definitely. Now that I think about it, though, I would definitely watch. God, I would watch a Tarzan. If we're going to do a shared universe, Tarzan, The Shadow, Doc Savage, John Carter. Put them all in together.
Starting point is 01:37:27 I would love that. Alan Quatermain for no reason. No, no. It doesn't work. You don't want to see him now? He's not part of that anyway, is he? No, that's true. He's got his own League of Extraordinary Gentlemen going on.
Starting point is 01:37:35 I'm surprised there wasn't a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie from this year that I hadn't heard about that's coming out. It's just got no director yet. Director DVD. All right. So good. That is the show for this week. Oh, very good.
Starting point is 01:37:45 We've got a competition winner to announce. Last week we said if you donated any amount of money to the eco farm slash children's kind of village kind of thing in Tanzania called Food Water Shelter. Your mates. My mates. You could win. I'm sure that there's so many people go through that place.
Starting point is 01:38:00 So I'm sure they'd be like, do you remember this guy? They'd be like, nah. No. He broke a lot of things. things oh we do remember him now um so thank you every so so many people donated money either to them or we also sent it to a charity of your choice amazing very good got some like rotary club and some things that were like really you know people had some kind of personal things they wanted to give towards and we appreciated i put them all in a randomizing thing. Frey Seagrove though. Congratulations!
Starting point is 01:38:28 1,000 points. That's right. So yeah, I don't know, email in I guess Frey. T-shirt of your choice. Weekly Planet t-shirt of your choice. Obviously. Not just any t-shirt. You can't get a cool t-shirt. Yeah. It's against the spirit of the show. Walking around in your cool t-shirt.
Starting point is 01:38:44 Hey man, where'd you get the cool T-shirt? I don't remember. Doesn't work for us, does it? No, it really doesn't. Hey, where'd you get the dumb T-shirt with the two idiots on it? Weekly Planet Podcast. There's a boring story about this. Yeah.

Starting point is 01:39:07 oh we're at weeklyplanetpod on gmail and facebook and twitter and bandcamp where we've got all audio commentaries correct

Starting point is 01:39:29 We love them. What was I going to say? Can't remember. Oh, what's next week? Let's do something else. You know what I'd like to do? Yes. I don't know whether we'll do it next week.
Starting point is 01:39:37 You know, there's been a lot of controversy surrounding whether Ray from the Force Awakens is a Mary Sue. Oh yeah. People are very concerned about that.
Starting point is 01:39:44 That's right. I'd love to do an episode where we kind of, first of all, talk about what that is exactly. Okay. So we've got that definition down pat. Sure. And then maybe go through some characters from, you know, books or films or comics or whatever that maybe are considered a Mary Sue.
Starting point is 01:39:56 Great. That sounds really good. Are you in? I'm definitely in. Great. And that means massive Force Awakens spoilers. That's happening next week. See The Force Awakens before we talk
Starting point is 01:40:06 about it yes yes very good thanks everybody grab that gem and then you say true that i do oh wait here's it this is my you can't put that on a t-shirt it doesn't work you can't you can't this is my prize for doing such a good show. I got a big smile. Yeah, you do. Okay, bye, everyone. Bye. Bye.
Starting point is 01:40:36 My newborn crow. I'll watch you grow. Tell you what I know My newborn crow I'll treat you good Do the things a big crow would Falling short of spewing in your mouth I'll treat you good.
Starting point is 01:41:06 And when you're old enough, I'll throw you out of the tree. Metaphorically, so you can be like me. So you can fly away from me. Fly away from me! Fly away from me! Fly... Oh, sorry. I woke you up. Since you're awake Eat this steak
Starting point is 01:41:49 Let's get you on solids as fast as we can Stay ahead of the other man And if the other guy's in your way Then beat him mercilessly Hang him from a high tree And let the other guys need then you'd better fly
Starting point is 01:42:09 away from me fly away from me run and hide oh stop crying
Starting point is 01:42:24 you're a crow Let them know That if you can't be a nice guy Be the greatest actor in the world Which you can't be Cause the greatest actor is me You'd better watch your back, son! You'd better turn round and run!
Starting point is 01:42:49 And when you're 13, you're out of the house, you're gone! I'm over ya! It's nothing personal, son! It's just my Triska-decker-phobia! And then you'd better blow! Mum's home. Oh, hi, Daniel. Oh, little baby girl just had a nightmare, didn't she?
Starting point is 01:43:07 She's fine now. Sweet dreams.
