Starting point is 00:00:00 FX's The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. FX's The Veil, starring Elizabeth Moss, is now streaming on Disney+. is now streaming on Disney+. This episode is brought to you by Mack Weldon Clothing and it's also brought to you by ShipStation. I love both of those goods and services. We've got a good and a service this week. It's incredible.
Starting point is 00:00:36 This podcast is part of the Planet Broadcasting Network. Visit planetbroadcasting.com for more podcasts from our great mates. Red hot comic book movie news Podcasting.com for more podcasts from our great mates. Welcome back, everybody, to another episode of The Weekly Planet, where we talk movies and comics and TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday. With me as always is my co-host, Nick Mason. A very, I was going to say a very somber introduction, but then you stretched out my last name.
Starting point is 00:01:06 It was funny. Well, that's the party part, isn't it? That's the fun part. That was very fun. The party's gotten started. You know it has. And the party continues, Mason. We've got our PAX show next week.
Starting point is 00:01:17 It's linked below if you want to get tickets. It's $65, which is very expensive. We don't see any of the money. PAX take all of that. So bear that in mind. Our enthusiasm will be related to that. Nobody here thinks that's weird that they don't pay anybody who goes along.
Starting point is 00:01:33 I presume they pay international guests or something. Who knows? Yeah, anyway. It's a mystery. Good on them. We're there for the experience. What we want to do is we want to tell our grandchildren, hey, we were at PAX one time.
Starting point is 00:01:44 And they'll be like, what's that? And we'll say... Come in out of the acid rain. Oh, that's me dying. That's my last words. Oh, wow. And they'll never... It's my rosebud.
Starting point is 00:01:56 And then I'll refuse to speak. I'll be like, well, I'm still alive, but I'm not going to tell you. I'm not going to tell you. But Claire's having a live show for Just Make the Thing coming up, Mason. That's in December. I've got the details in front of me, or I did. Yes, I do.
Starting point is 00:02:11 And those tickets are only $29.34. That's at us. Why so specifically? I don't know. I don't know. What's your deal, mate? That's Sunday the 9th of December at Howler Bar in Melbourne. So Chanel and Claire, they do a podcast about making things
Starting point is 00:02:24 and just keep making it. But the guest on that show is myself, and she hasn't asked you yet, but also you, if you're available. of December at Howler Bar in Melbourne. So Chanel and Claire, they do a podcast about making things and just keep making it. But the guest on that show is myself, and she hasn't asked you yet, but also you, if you're available. I'm at work. Okay, great. So you won't be there. Probably not.
Starting point is 00:02:34 But I'll be there. Great. Yeah, so feel free to come down that. We're going to be talking about, I don't know, how this all got started and how to keep it going. And if you're trying to start a side hustle, how to get that going. It's also tricky to like chuck a sickie from work to do it because now everybody knows.
Starting point is 00:02:53 That's true, yeah. And also it's the work Christmas party is happening on that day as well. On that same day. You've got to go to that. No, I can't because I'm at work. Oh, okay. So you couldn't even get someone to fill your shift.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Well, see, exactly. That's right. Because the industry that I work in, it's always running. It's not like working in an office where it's just, well, Saturday and Sunday, everybody's off. Like there's no... Well, we're going to have to get somebody else then. Maybe a Matt Stewart.
Starting point is 00:03:19 To do my work. Dave Warnke. Yeah. They're going to fill the tram. Whatever you do. I don't know. Whatever weird job you have. Yep.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Yeah. So, yeah, feel free to come down to that. That is linked below. Tickets are limited for that. So if you want to get in, also hang around, have a beer afterwards if you want. Howler's real nice. Yeah. It's a lovely place.
Starting point is 00:03:36 It is. And we'll also be there afterwards. Indoor bit. Outdoor bit. Non-smoking. Smoking area, I assume. Is there food? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Maybe. But isn't it great? just have an expensive lunch out that's right find out on the day what else we got here? let's get into the news Mason big news over at Netflix the Luke Cage season 3
Starting point is 00:03:57 which was going to get a season 3 has been cancelled which means they've now cancelled Iron Fist and Luke Cage did we talk about Iron Fist being cancelled last week? we may have I think we did
Starting point is 00:04:07 now what do you think this means? because I think it can mean a few things but what do you think it means? a lot of people I think are going to say well that means they're going to put them together and it's going to be Heroes for Hire but I think the fact that they cancelled they announced the cancellations separately
Starting point is 00:04:19 is because that's not going to happen I think rumours would be rife if they were like, listen, we're cancelling them both. Just the two. Okay, bye everyone. I think people would be like, oh, that means they're going to put them together. Luke Cage and Iron Fist, heroes for hire.
Starting point is 00:04:36 It's what we've wanted. But I think they're being like, okay, this one's done. And then people are like, well, maybe he'll appear on Luke Cage. That one's also done, yeah. What about if they do another season? That's cancelled too. Is it? Yeah. And then people are like, well, maybe he'll appear on Luke Cage. That one's also done, yeah. What about if they do another season?
Starting point is 00:04:47 That's cancelled too. Is it? Is Thor cancelled? Not so far. As of yet. Oh, yeah. I think there's a very real possibility they're doing Heroes for Hire. I think it's weird.
Starting point is 00:04:58 No, it's not weird. I think because they haven't come out and said yes or no. Maybe it is weird. Yeah, but they haven't come out and said yes or no. That's true, yeah. So we don't know. The other thing is maybe they're both cancelled forever and they're going to be moving more towards the Mark Millar stuff. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Also, with that stuff, they own all that stuff. They own all the Miller World properties. That's true, yeah. So they don't have to go through Marvel to get anything approved. They can just do whatever they want. I'd imagine doing that is an absolute nightmare. They'd be like, no, you can't use that character. No, you can't use Coulson because he's done another thing or whatever.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Yeah, for sure. No, you can't get out of that alley all your shows are set in an alley didn't you know that yeah yeah so hey Mark hey Mark Mill this is a courtesy call to let you know that all all your characters are going to be in hallway fights for every every superior he's not going to be in the sky anymore he's going to be in just hallway fights and we're never going to put him in the costume after we own this so uh we you can't change it but so we're just letting you know. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Because I think with Disney starting a streaming service, why would they promote Marvel stuff? Yeah, exactly. I thought this was weird. I'll talk about Data a little bit later. It hasn't appeared on my homepage at all. People are saying that, yeah. That's weird, right?
Starting point is 00:06:00 People have... I thought it was because I haven't watched the last two or three. On the Planet Broadcasting Group, there's a thread, and I think somebody posted that they couldn't find it. Yeah. Like, they... I had to search for it. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:06:10 Yeah. Because it does... Like, it's... I think mine is on... I think... Because, you know, with Netflix, it'll be like, continue watching. Yeah. And I scrolled down far enough to that, and it was like,
Starting point is 00:06:19 there's new episodes of Daredevil. But if it's not... It should be, like, trending now. Yeah. And new episodes, and get back to this and clickety click, just click it but yeah, they're not promoting this, which is weird yeah, anyway, we'll talk about it a bit later
Starting point is 00:06:32 I don't mind it, from what I've seen of it we'll get into that in what we read it marks an interesting shift in the dynamic DC have got their own streaming service Warner Brothers are also talking about doing their own as well, which is weird because they should just combine that, yeah, Warner Brothers and DC well, which is weird because they should just combine that. Yeah, Warner Brothers and DC.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Well, they're the same company. So I don't know why they've got two separate ones. And you would think that it would be people who are like maybe hardcore DC fans. And at a certain point, you would watch all the content. Yeah, maybe I want to watch a Harry Potter or whatever. And then be like, what else does Warner Brothers produce? Oh, everything. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Is it good? Some of it. Some of it, sure. Animaniacs. Yeah, for sure. Other Tiny Toons. Tiny Toon Adventures. Yep. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Space Jam. Yep. These are all good. They're all great stuff. Movies, things from the 90s that I remember. Freakazoid. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:18 That movie with Brendan Fraser. Frasier. Remember that one? No. The one where it's a cut and Looney Tunes back in action Oh right I've never seen it
Starting point is 00:07:27 I remember that one What were we talking about? I've forgotten Iron Fist How about this How many streaming services Do you think On principle
Starting point is 00:07:34 Or for budgetary reasons You're going to max out at? I've got Three at the moment Because I've got In Australia we've got Stan Yeah Which is
Starting point is 00:07:44 Australian Netflix Yep Sort of I've got, because I've got, because in Australia we've got Stan. Yeah. Which is Australian Netflix. Yep. Sort of. I got Netflix. Yep. I got... I got Amazon. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Yeah, Amazon. Google Play doesn't really count. It's not really a streaming service. You can buy stuff off it. You just buy what you want, yeah. But how many, like... I'll get Disney
Starting point is 00:07:59 because I want the new Star Wars stuff. Right, yeah. But they'd have to be pretty appealing, anything else, to kind of... You'd have to be pretty appealing, anything else, to kind of, you'd have to, I mean, because I think Amazon are doing Lord of the Rings.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Because when you add it up, like if you've got like eight going at once. Well, it's like a cable package. They were like 120 bucks or whatever. Yeah, right. And they still run that shit. Like Foxtel is still crazy expensive. And even though it runs through an app that doesn't really work,
Starting point is 00:08:22 you can still get a box to your house with a separate remote with a thousand buttons on it or whatever. It's absolutely crazy that they still do it. But I reckon, I don't know, five. Five, yeah. I'm putting my foot down at five. And I guess also you can switch on and off depending what's on.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Like if there's nothing on stand for this particular month, you can just cancel this for this month and I'll come back. Oh, I see. Yeah. But that's a hassle, right? It's a nightmare. I have all my own because I just come back for seven bucks. Oh, I see, yeah. But that's a hassle, right? It's a nightmare. I have all my own because I just write them off on tax.
Starting point is 00:08:51 But my family, we all have a separate one and we just share them. Oh, I see, right. Okay. Yeah, right. Just do that. What's your dad watching these days? What is my... I think he was watching The Terror recently.
Starting point is 00:08:59 Oh, yeah. I should get to that. That is good. Okay, all right. Yeah, I've talked about it here. Is there a second season of that coming out? It is, but it's going to be set in a different decade. Oh, American Horror Story style.
Starting point is 00:09:08 That's right. Okay, I'm going to write that down. Yeah, definitely get into the terror. Have you watched The Man in the High Castle? I've watched the first two and I couldn't really get into it, but I need to go back. Yeah. Okay. Would you like to go to the next bit of news though?
Starting point is 00:09:20 Yes. Great. Wait, what's your takeaway from Iron Fist and Luke Cage? I think they're ramping it down. Yeah, same. Then again, if they went Heroes for Hire, I wouldn't be shocked. But I feel like you don't even see it on buses or anything anymore. Maybe it's just here.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I don't know. Yeah, right. I didn't know that about people not... Well, I thought it was just me. Did we ever get... Oh, yeah. What was I going to say? There were big ad campaigns for it. Really? Yeah. And look at the way they push Stranger Things. That... Oh, yeah. There were big ad campaigns for it.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Really? Yeah. And look at the way they pushed Stranger Things. That's true, yeah. There was a pipe tram. There was a pipe tram. No, a hype tram. No, what am I talking about there?
Starting point is 00:09:54 Like a fictional thing I made up? Like I misheard you and then I just went with it? You went, yeah, the pipe tram. Just full of gentlemen smoking pipes. And they wind their windows down and like, you boy, Stranger Things. It's coming out July 25th. Do you enjoy the 80s?
Starting point is 00:10:15 They're all dying. They're all dying in the tram, yes. Have you ever seen one of those smokers' rooms at the airport? It's just a glass case that like 20 people... I just had a thought the other day remember when places just was filled
Starting point is 00:10:28 like pubs were filled with smoke yeah just go to Europe I guess that's true yeah I mean you probably don't travel as much as me I don't
Starting point is 00:10:35 nor would I ever want to yeah it was awful yeah yeah it really was and then there was that then there was that interim period
Starting point is 00:10:42 where they banned smoking in like pubs yeah and all the pubs just smelled like vomit everything smelled like vomit and then they was that interim period where they banned smoking in pubs, and all the pubs just smelled like vomit. Everything smelled like vomit. And then they fixed that somehow, or got used to it. Yeah, it's a good question, don't I? Maybe we just go out less. I travel more, but go out less.
Starting point is 00:10:55 Yeah, I guess that's probably true, yeah. Okay, what else we got here? Guardians of the Galaxy 3 has been moved to a 2020 production start, looking like it means it will be early to be out 2021. It also might be a Christmas-themed movie. Okay, I like that. You know, I love a Christmas-themed thing. They're apparently looking for a female director.
Starting point is 00:11:14 I don't think that means necessarily anything. I think they just say that for every movie. Yeah, for sure, right. But it also leaves a 2020 spot open on Marvel's roster for an Inhumans movie. Which they always claimed they were going to do. I think it's supposed to be out, is it this year or next year? I think it's 2019, was Inhumans, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:32 They're not going to do Inhumans. No. But, I don't know, I'd imagine they're probably going to do an X-Men or Fantastic Four. Yeah, right. Or one of the new, or Silver Surfer. Exciting. Or something like that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Yeah, so all of those things are good. Also, they've moved the Jungle Cruise movie from 2019. that the rock one it's like it's a Disneyland ride you ever been to Disneyland all right this is this is a net the next in a long line of Pirates of the Caribbean yeah it's set to do well because it's the rock in the jungle and those yeah generally his juggle movies generally they're just gonna get deleted scenes from Jumanji and welcome to the jungle and whatever else and just smush them together. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:12:05 It's fine. I won't use guns. Journey 2. You're thinking of Journey 2 The Center of the Earth 2. Yeah, I'm thinking of that actually. And also Welcome to the Jungle slash The Rundown.
Starting point is 00:12:16 So Jungle Cruise yeah, that's going to now it's going to be mid-2020. Have you seen the set of that? They built this enormous set. It's the Rock's day and then he's like what's up everybody? I'm the biggest and best It's the Rock's day and then he's like, what's up everybody? I'm the biggest and best person in the world.
Starting point is 00:12:27 And then the drone pulls out and it's this enormous set. It's crazy. It's with him and Emily Blunt, but I remember years ago it was going to be Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was talking about that. Those classic love interests. Yeah, because they're the toy story guys. Of course, right.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Okay. Yeah, but Tim Allen's because they're the Toy Story guys. Oh, of course, right. Okay. So, yeah. But Tim Allen's doing Too Many Daughters or whatever, and Tom Hanks is trying to calm America down, so they're both very busy. They say, yeah, mm-hmm. Yeah, he's doing that Mr. Rogers. Yeah, well, then bring back America's Sweethearts, Emily Blunt and The Rock.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Mm, finally. What were we talking about? Oh, um... Yeah, Guardians of the Galaxy. Guardians of the Galaxy. So there's that empty slot there. So do you think Fantastic Four or X-Men? Well, I think it leaves it open.
Starting point is 00:13:10 I mean, I don't know, but it seems like it might line up about then. That's true. Do you think they'll ramp up or ramp down? Actually, 2020, maybe it won't because it's only two years. They'd have to start next year. Yeah. I don't know. Anyway, sorry, go on.
Starting point is 00:13:22 But here's the thing. What if they do something really small scale? Yeah, like cook an egg.'ll cook an egg yeah is this back to your famous your your your youtube series where you're gonna cook an egg for somebody else i've subscribed to that but he stopped doing it oh so he cooked an egg for a minute and then the next week he cooked it two minutes. Just to see what happens. Okay. Terrific.
Starting point is 00:13:47 He was killing it. Yeah. What's a small scale thing? Because I feel like. Well, you want street level? Is that what you're talking about? Yeah, but that's the thing. I mean.
Starting point is 00:13:56 But you can do small scale, but it's on an alien planet. I guess that's true. Because look at like the Riddick movies. Most of them are set on a moon. Yeah. And it's night. That's true. Except for that one that's insane.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Yeah. And Judi dench is a ghost or something yeah i remember yeah so you could do a small scale like that that's true yeah maybe maybe we put in the maybe this is time for the black widow movie maybe it is i could knock that out a year definitely it's got what's carl jansen doing acting just regular acting regular acting that's a job uh-huh yeah cool probably doing that i'll put her in a wig and just uh give her a unhealthy diet and yeah get her in there get in a wig and just give her an unhealthy diet and get her out there. And then ask her about her diet and getting into her...
Starting point is 00:14:29 What she's wearing under the catsuit. Yeah, absolutely. And all the interviews. She would love another year of that. It's so exciting. And it looks like this is a... And also the thing about that is, is if you could just set that whenever
Starting point is 00:14:41 and that doesn't give away whether she died or not. Yes, that's true. Well, they were all just like, yeah, there's a new Spider-Man could just set that whenever and that doesn't give away whether whether she died or not yes that's true well they're all just like yeah there's a new spider-man and i think somebody was last this week was like yeah we're doing dr strange too i don't think they care they're just like yeah black panther 2 is happening that's true yeah so yeah you know it's fine do you want to move your pop filter up a little bit because i think we we found a good yeah we found a good placement for your microphone but maybe it's not so good
Starting point is 00:15:06 what about now I think that's going to be pop free but the sound yeah that's good I'm planning on getting some new mics when we move studios
Starting point is 00:15:13 oh hello some very fancy ones should we get one of those super expensive can we get one of those ones that look like like radio mics
Starting point is 00:15:20 in the 50s oh yeah we can do that what did I say nothing yeah I know I don't want ones that look fancy I want ones that work Like radio mics in the 50s? Oh, yeah, we can do that. What did I say? Nothing. Yeah, I don't want ones that look fancy. I want ones that work. I don't care what they look like. Why?
Starting point is 00:15:30 You can put a dick cover on it if you want, Mason. Whatever you want. Whatever you want. Uh-huh. Okay? Terrific. Captain Marvel's origin has been changed in the comics, throwing out the decades of her story
Starting point is 00:15:43 where she was hit by the psych magnetron. Yep. And she was imbued with many a gift. So instead of altering Carol Danvers' DNA, now her DNA is activated and she inherited her superpowers because her mother is Kree. So her mother said they're not borrowed, not a gift,
Starting point is 00:16:00 not an accident. Okay, cool. So it was always meant to be. It's a real amazing spider-man 2 situation where you always had the spider blood yeah you just needed to be bit by a spider okay cool all right what do you think about that that's well that's where they're going in the movie right i yeah well that makes me think they might now yeah yeah yeah pretty cool yeah is it it's fine
Starting point is 00:16:17 i don't know i like the idea of an accident more than that this is your destiny you're always meant to be great things and because i, Aquaman's that as well. Yep. That's what I like about Captain America. He's a regular guy. If he didn't get that, he would have just probably coughed himself to death. Yeah, he would have had a ton of polio, one assumes. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:34 What do you think? Let me think. Nature. That was like Hulk, the Eric Banner one. Oh, yeah, that's right. Yeah. He'd already been previously. His dad had already filled him with acid and whatever.
Starting point is 00:16:47 But I always thought that when they do that, it's to stave off children exposing themselves to radiation or getting bitten by spiders. Okay, that makes more sense. You go, okay, kids, don't actually get yourself bitten by a spider because nothing will happen. You'll just be poisoned. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:00 You have to also have been in this radiation situation years ago. You'll turn into Dane DeHaan. Exactly. The worst. He's good. He seems good. So yeah, it makes me think that's what they're doing in the movie. I don't know that for a fact.
Starting point is 00:17:14 None of us know anything on this show. And we'll never learn anything, all right? Or should we? We're out of school. That's when the learning stops. That's right. You're not required to learn. Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:23 Would you say you've learned more out of school than in? Are you referring to the school of Hard Knocks? No. The school that I went to. The actual school. I mean, you'd think so. Because it's only six years and it's been many more than six. Yeah, I think I've learned more outside of school.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Yeah. You'd hope so. Yeah. And also, we never got taught anything inside of school that is useful in our day-to-day lives. It's very impractical. And the thing we learned the most was, well, you'll never have a calculator in your pocket in the future, will you? Nah, guess what I do.
Starting point is 00:17:49 Even though people had them then. People had calculators then. Yeah. It wasn't... What a weird... What if you don't have a calculator in your pocket? Well, I do. What you got to teach in school, Mason,
Starting point is 00:17:59 which being a teacher, me, that's what I used to do. Now I don't do that. I do this shit. Yeah. But you just got to teach kids how to learn. That's what you teach. Yes. Now I don't do that. I do this shit. You just got to teach kids how to learn. That's what you teach. You don't teach to a specific, this is exactly how you use this thing.
Starting point is 00:18:11 This is how you adapt. This is how you find information. This is how you filter out what's good and what's garbage. That's why I put you two kids in a pit and there's a gun hidden around here and one of you leaves. Your calculator in your pocket's not going to save you now. That's right. This is weird news.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Oh, wait, he shattered the glass out of the calculator. He's killed, slit the other kid's throat. Wow, sure proven me wrong. This is a weird update from the Joker movie. The 1960s Batmobile has been spotted on set for the 1980s Joker origin movie where Batman's not in it. Now, it wasn't... Here's the thing about that video,
Starting point is 00:18:46 is it wasn't driving around. It was on the back of a flatbed truck. Which makes me think that. It's just somebody was driving around. I mean, from time to time, there's a place in Northgate. We've seen it. Sometimes there's just a pop culture collectible store. And sometimes there's just a Batmobile parked out the front. We've talked about it on this show.
Starting point is 00:19:04 But the guy in it was wearing the wrong bat suit yes he didn't want to wear the Adam West one because it doesn't hide anything that
Starting point is 00:19:10 no that's true you've got to be like 5% body fat to wear that yeah and even then you look terrible that's right so yeah
Starting point is 00:19:17 I mean yeah what it could be I don't think it's this yes but it could be that in this universe the 1960s Batman TV show exists. Could be.
Starting point is 00:19:26 That's true. But then that would be weird that there's the Waynes. But who knows what is that? What is this movie? Who knows what Warner Brothers is going to try at this point? That could be fun. Yeah. That could be a goer.
Starting point is 00:19:38 It's like that Superman story, Secret Identity, where there's a guy called Clark Kent. Yes. And Superman exists in comic form and then he just gets the powers. Yeah, right. And people are like, what's happening? And he's like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:50 And he doesn't. That's true. Okay. Anyway, that's a weird bit of news. Speaking of Superman, though, the black suit Superman has showed up in the, it's going to be in the Elseworlds crossover
Starting point is 00:20:01 for the... Oh, the CW shows. The CW show. I saw that, yeah. Tyler Herklin. Herklin. Apparently they're considering a Superman series, which I guess they can do now because Superman is dead in the movies,
Starting point is 00:20:13 even though they just brought him back. Right, uh-huh. But he may as well be dead. Yep. Is Henry Cavill out or is he in? We don't know anymore. Yeah, we never will. And also, what do you think of that black suit, though? I mean, it's just one image of it.
Starting point is 00:20:25 I mean, I thought it was fine. There we go. Yeah, terrific. Hot stuff. And also, what do you think of that black suit, though? I mean, it's just one image of it. I mean, I thought it was fine. There we go. Yeah, terrific. Hot stuff. Hot stuff, right? It needs something more. Like, see, here's the thing. I don't know what context that suit is in.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Yeah. Is he evil? Is he evil? Is this a Superman Return from the Dead? There seems to be... There's also photos of Stephen Amell in the Flash costume. And vice versa. And there's also Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell in matching leather pant,
Starting point is 00:20:50 leather jacket, scarf combinations. Yeah. And they're hanging out with Tyler Herklin. They're loving their multiverse. I don't know what's happening in that. I can't definitively pin that down to any particular Elseworlds because it's the Elseworlds crossover. It's just the Elseworlds of that universe.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Yeah, but I can't nail that down to any particular comic book Elseworlds story, so I don't know what it is. Yeah. It sounds like it could be, that's like new frontier outfits with the leather jacket and the scarves. Like 1940s.
Starting point is 00:21:21 Like they're either fighter pilots or biker gang members. Or Green Lanterns. Maybe. I don't know. I don't watch it. No, I'll watch this crossover because I generally watch the crossovers. Okay, cool. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:38 But if he's evil Superman, I feel the suit needs more of an edge to it. I think if he's evil Superman, you don't do black suit. You just do regular suit. It's not really associated with evil Superman. I'll just do whatever. Yeah. if he's evil Superman, you don't do black suit. You just do regular suit. It's not really associated with evil Superman. Oh, just do whatever. Yeah. Do whatever on this show that I don't watch. It's true, yeah. But apparently Lex Luthor is going to join
Starting point is 00:21:54 the cast of Supergirl season four. Did you know they were up to four? I did know they were up to four, yeah. That's crazy. So people are saying they want, what's his name? Michael Rosenbaum. Which might do it, but he hated shaving his head. Yeah, right. Apparently he's got a good podcast.
Starting point is 00:22:09 Oh, Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum. I haven't listened to it. Me neither. I thought it was good. Well, he quits. He quits. Being bald. He quit being bald and he quits Smallville to do comedy.
Starting point is 00:22:20 So apparently he's a funny guy. I don't know. Yeah, well, I've seen like clips of it. I listened to the one actually where he talked about, is it Alison Brie? Alison Mack. Alison Mack. Who was Chloe in Smallville,
Starting point is 00:22:33 and then it turned out she was running a cult. Yeah. That's weird. Like trafficking women and shit. Yeah. Madness. Absolute insanity. Yeah, I saw that clip as well.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Yeah. And that was really funny. Yeah, great stuff. He really salvaged some zingers out of that. So good for him. saw that clip as well yeah but uh so and that was really funny so yeah great stuff he really he really salvaged some zingers out of that so good for him so i don't know whether he'll do this he said he's pretty content he's probably got a shitload of smallville money so he doesn't have to do this and again very brave look very brave of him to continuously shave his head yes i wouldn't i daren't do that yeah for fear that i would shave it and that's
Starting point is 00:23:05 the part i've probably even talked about this on the show you have where i'm like what if that sends a signal to my brain that's like i guess he doesn't want this hair anymore that doesn't work on your face does no it doesn't of course not you just you just lost you just lost your mind exactly i love well my dad's bald so yeah oh yeah but he went bald like before the age you are now he went bald like 25 yeah so you'll probably be alright and I'm 20 to 25 oh no or a different age
Starting point is 00:23:29 you know you're going back into your youth into your baldness that's right it's a double edged sword youth isn't it I would like to see
Starting point is 00:23:36 Michael Rosenbaum in that role yeah do you think it would be brave of him to return and shave his head braver than when he was in Sorority Boys
Starting point is 00:23:43 yes braver than that wow yeah braver than when he was in Sorority Boys? Yes, braver than that. Wow. Yeah, braver than when he was in that Pool Shark movie. What was it called? Somebody will know. I'm sure somebody does know. Yep. I bet he doesn't know. I bet he doesn't know.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Somebody does know. Exactly. Pool Hall Junkies it was called. I do remember that. I haven't seen it, but I've heard that. Okay. You'll love this, Mason was called. I do remember that. I haven't seen it, but I've heard that. Okay. You'll love this, Mason. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:24:08 In Star Wars news. Oscar Isaac. Wait, wait, wait. So, but going back to that, just briefly, do you think he'd fit in there, but that's going to open a whole can of worms with people being like, so is this the same Superman from Smallville?
Starting point is 00:24:23 Is this bloody... No, I don't think so, because it's a mix of people are in each other's dimensions i guess that's versions of each other from different exactly sometimes you're the flash sometimes you're the flash's dad yeah that's right imagine being the flash's dad what a privilege yes honor and a privilege that's it okay but then imagine those phone calls where you're like hey you're gonna come and visit over the weekend and he's just just like, no, I don't have time. Really? You could be here now.
Starting point is 00:24:48 We could be having this conversation in person and then you could leave and be back at your job. So I think this is disheartening. It's very disheartening. Anyway, as I was saying, Mason, you'll love this because in Star Wars news, Oscar Isaac, who plays Poven Dameron. It's Poven Dameron.
Starting point is 00:25:09 This is a skivvy. Yes. It says the way they've been shooting on episode nine right now, it's looser. It's with guns. That's right. Blasters. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:25:19 It's looser than it's been for the last two times. It does feel like a relief to get on set and feel like, oh, we can try things. It's a testament to JJ coming back and feeling confident, which is weird because in the last movie where they tried things, everybody got fired. They sure did. Specifically the directors.
Starting point is 00:25:33 I actually watched Solo again this week. How did you feel? Pretty boring, Mason. Pretty boring stuff. You had the face of someone who was going to be like, I actually enjoyed it quite a lot more, but you didn't. It's really not bad. And I don't think it's Ron Howard's fault.
Starting point is 00:25:45 I think it's just... What are you going to do? Yeah, what are you going to do? The whiteboard had a certain number of story beats and elements that needed to be inserted. And if you left one out, people would be like, How did he get his blaster, though? How did he get his blaster, though? Oh, that's right.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Someone threw it to him. Woody Harrelson threw it at him, yeah. It would have been... At least hit him in the head. You know what I mean? Right, uh- right. Someone threw it to him. Woody Harrelson threw it at him, yeah. It would have been, at least make him, hit him in the head. You know what I mean? Right, uh-huh. Yeah. All the balls.
Starting point is 00:26:09 All the balls. All the butts. And he's like, oh, come on. My butt. Yeah. Did you see somebody did the deep face thing where they swapped out Hollywood Pizza and it to me? Harrison Ford's face onto.
Starting point is 00:26:19 Yeah, I saw that. Yeah. A lot of that looks really good. Yeah. And that's just some, some rando doing on the laptop. Yeah, that's right. Anyway, what do you think about that? More improv
Starting point is 00:26:27 More More zip zap Kind of thing You know what I mean? It's got It's got the free form of a podcast Oh yeah for sure You can go deep
Starting point is 00:26:33 You can go deep They're just gonna be It's just gonna be Oscar Isaac Talking for 20 minutes About how he was afraid To shave his hair During Ex-Marketer
Starting point is 00:26:40 Because he feared That his hair wouldn't grow back His hair's so good too Yeah right It's got some of the best hair Yes it's good hair Yeah Oh yeaheter because he feared that his hair wouldn't grow back. His hair's so good too. Yeah, right? It's got some of the best hair. Yes, it's good hair. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:48 Just talk about that. All right. So that's what you wanted to talk about. Yes. Is the final chapter where you want to go loosey-goosey? Yeah, sure. I feel like people, I think Disney have confidence in J.J. Abrams. Right.
Starting point is 00:27:02 Because he's done one. Yeah. He's a seasoned director. But I also feel like this isn't going to be loosey-goosey JJ Abrams. Right. Because he's done one. Yeah. He's a seasoned director. But I also feel like this isn't going to be loosey-goosey plot-wise. No. It's going to be loosey-goosey. Hey, do you want to try saying a funny thing?
Starting point is 00:27:13 Try saying a joke? Okay, cool. We'll keep it in. Maybe we'll take it out. Hyper drive, more like hyper dive. Yeah, nice. Bar. Nice. Does that work?
Starting point is 00:27:20 Yeah. Yeah. So that's why we need this film, because I made a good facial expression afterwards, which would have sealed that joke. Really would have, yeah. Would have sealed in the juices of that joke, you know? Yeah. No, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:27:32 I don't care. I don't really care about episode nine, to be honest. Wow. Yeah. Really, you don't? Because I thought eight was a good ending. Yeah, but it isn't the end. No, it's not.
Starting point is 00:27:42 But this won't be the end either. No, it won't be. Because if, even if this, the, the, this, the eight people who are left at the end of the last one.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Yeah. Completely destroy the new, the first order. There'll be a new first order. Exactly. In the next trilogy. So what's the point? I want to see like the Mandalorian.
Starting point is 00:27:59 That's what I'm kind of like. Yeah. Show me that. Yeah. But of course I'll see it. And I'm sure when I see a trailer, I'll be like, I'm a hundred percent on board. I am on board. Yeah. There's no way i'm not going to see this the second that i care for sure yeah but just at this point i'm i don't know i'm kind of burnt
Starting point is 00:28:12 out i mean solo was great i watched it the other day it was really good what if they were like and this is it they should do it they they put at the end of this movie some story and they go, and a hundred years in the future, still peace. And then they go to a thousand years in the future and like, still peace. Guess what? Yeah, okay. They go to the death of the universe. Still peace. Yeah, and I think they probably should cut it off for a bit after this.
Starting point is 00:28:36 You know, they let Harry Potter rest for four years or whatever. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Until they made a prequel or whatever they did. Yeah. Okay. years or whatever yeah yeah for sure till they made a prequel or whatever they did yeah okay fx is the veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from istanbul to paris and london one woman has a secret the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost.
Starting point is 00:29:09 FX's The Veil, starring Elizabeth Moss, is now streaming on Disney+. Mason, it's time for an ad. And what better ad to it be time for than Mack Weldon clothing? Are you channeling a pirate now or some sort of old sea captain? I'm not sure what happened then. Steady as she goes. Very good. Thank you not sure what happened then. Steady as she goes. Very good. Thank you. Add to starboard.
Starting point is 00:29:28 Mack Weldon, they're a quality clothing company. They believe in smart designs, premium fabrics, simple shopping. We know all this, Mason, because we've been on their website. It's as simple as you like. Maybe even simpler. Yeah. You might like it simple, and it might be even simpler, too simple. You might be like, this is too simple, but I'll adjust.
Starting point is 00:29:45 If anything, just a little bit of extra simplicity in your life goes a long way. It certainly does. Just overall contentedness, you know? I agree. All their products are also naturally antimicrobial, which means they eliminate odor. Are they anti-barnacle? I don't know about that, but probably. Yeah, almost certainly.
Starting point is 00:30:03 I'd love to confirm that. If anyone can confirm that confirm that also they want you to be comfortable so if you did i say don't want you to be comfortable i feel like i tripped over some words there they do want you to be comfortable all right all right so if you don't like your first pair you can keep it and they will still refund you and they won't ask you any questions they're not gonna go up to you they're not gonna go onto your bloody your ship no to collect them you. They don't have the time or the inclination. You don't have to hide in the galley.
Starting point is 00:30:28 In all the poop deck. Your pair's probably waterlogged with seawater. They don't want them back. Just keep them. And not only do Mack Weldon do underwear, they do socks and shirts that look good. They're good for going to work, going out, going on dates, just everyday life.
Starting point is 00:30:43 They've got a whole range of clothing. Going out to sea. That's clothing. Going out to sea. That's right. Going out to sea, having a dip in the ocean. Exactly. Trying to get it, getting revenge on that whale that did you wrong so many years ago, you know? I mean, let it go.
Starting point is 00:30:55 You should probably let it go. If you don't, if you're not going to let it go. We're Mack Weldon. We're Mack Weldon. Starting point is 00:31:12 You should get them. I have a lot. You have a lot. Yeah, they're great. They're good. It's good stuff. Underwear especially. My fave.
Starting point is 00:31:18 Oh, yeah. A lot of my underwear, like the band rips and they tear. You know what I mean? None of mine have even stretched out all the legs you know what's annoying because i'm we all sit down at what i was gonna say i sit down at work a lot everybody sits down a lot of work but like like that we got the you got the boxer brief yeah and the legs right up that's right you're all bunching up it's no good and if you've got well if you've got a wooden leg it's perfect for that. Yeah, absolutely. Anyway, that's linked below. But we also have another ad, Mason.
Starting point is 00:31:46 Ship Station. And we've got big news. Oh, Ship Station. That's right. I'm ready to go. I've got a few zingers in the chamber. I've never said you look happier on this show. They're America's number one e-commerce uh shipping software and it's now available in the
Starting point is 00:32:07 uk so if you're selling online and you want to get your orders out quickly and keep your customers happy that's where ship station comes in do you want to do it i actually ran out of oh no i would argue that i've never that i didn't that i've never had any zingers but uh i don't actually have any i think i said galley before and i don't know whether that's anything. No, that's the galley. That's a ship. Scullery? That's nothing, is it? I think that's where a maid lives in the olden times.
Starting point is 00:32:32 Okay. Basically, ShipStation imports your orders online from anywhere that you sell from, eBay to Amazon, even your own web store, and they've got easy-to-print labels from all the major countries right from ShipStation. Shipstation.com, don't sail off the edge of the world. No, please don't. Mason, do you want to talk about horror films? Yes. Good, because that's what we're talking about. We would have loved to have talked about Halloween.
Starting point is 00:34:00 The new one. Yep. So we're going to talk about... Are we hearing good things about that or bad things generally good things we've got a bit of correspondence some people have said yeah it's okay
Starting point is 00:34:08 but no one said it's bad that's true yeah so that's good in my book as someone who's not into horror but I think maybe people who listen
Starting point is 00:34:17 to this who are into horror who are going to be I'll put this here now because all the people who are into horror are going to turn off fairly soon I think
Starting point is 00:34:24 good yeah because we're bad at talking about horror not as bad as we are talking about harry potter apparently but i i feel like maybe people can uh get to me on this i feel like we are in a like a horror renaissance in the horror stuff that is happening now is way like based on some of the stuff that i watch for this episode yeah a lot of the stuff that people like oh my god this is this is a stone cold classic i'm like is it because the stuff that i've been watching recently is actually very good agreed and some of the old stuff not good trash trash hyper dive bar nice good good good sealed it in with a look yeah you sure did yeah so okay well what we're going to do is just talk about some of our ones that we liked or some
Starting point is 00:35:08 that we've watched recently. Maybe we'll talk about them a lot or a little. Yeah, okay. If there's a... We'll probably do light spoilers, I guess, but if we're going to actually specifically spoil something, we'll say so and maybe skip ahead. Okay. I don't know if I'm going to time code this.
Starting point is 00:35:21 I probably won't have time because tomorrow someone in my... My son's going in to have a procedure. I don't have time. He'll to time code this I probably won't have time because tomorrow my son's going in to have a procedure I don't have time, he'll be fine, everything's fine everybody, but I just, I don't know how if I can actually get the time to He's getting a boob job You tried to talk him out of it, but it's these it's all the images, it's Instagram It's the media cycle, it's a 24 hour
Starting point is 00:35:40 media cycle Hey man, as long as he's happy Exactly, yeah Okay, is there one you want what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, is there one you want to start with? Ah, well, I'll just find the reference. Somebody recommended this to me.
Starting point is 00:35:53 So I was like, I would like to see some stuff that happened before. I said I wanted to see some stuff that happened in the immediate aftermath of Halloween, which is the one we talked, the original Halloween,
Starting point is 00:36:03 which we talked about last time. Should have watched Halloween 2, yeah. We also, and then I ended up watching a couple of movies that came out before Halloween, and then a couple that came out after Halloween. What have we got? What did you touch on? So I watched two things for the first time,
Starting point is 00:36:18 and I re-watched two things. Okay. So prior to Halloween, I watched, I was recommended by, and he's got a Halloween name on Twitter. He's currently Spooknando Goulmez. So I'm going to say his real name is Hernando Gomez, potentially. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Maybe that is his real name. Maybe. Yeah. Yeah, look, we'll never know, will we? We won't. He recommended Suspiria, which is from 1977. There's a new one of those, isn't there? Yeah, I believe there is, the remake.
Starting point is 00:36:47 And? He says even Mr. Sunday movies might dig it because it's very different from Halloween and the like. Guess what? It's not that different. No, look, it's an Italian horror movie set in Germany. Yeah, precisely. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:37:04 And it's... What language? It is in Italian. you. And it's... What language? It is in Italian. Okay. And it's subtitled. Yep. Relief. In German.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Yes. And it's kind of... It's very much... It's a proto-slasher and it's kind of pre... It's got some supernatural elements to it. And it's very much like... It looks great. And it's got some supernatural elements to it and it's very much like it looks great and it's very like it's it almost feels like it was a horror movie by accident like it was kind
Starting point is 00:37:31 of like like annie hall was accidentally the first rom-com interestingly you mentioned that because the lead actor in this movie turned down the role in annie hall to be in this movie yeah woody allen's part yes the woody allen role jessica harper was going to be in this movie. Woody Allen's part. Yes. The Woody Allen role. Jessica Harper was going to be in Annie Hall. Really? Okay. But then she was like, actually, I'd rather travel to... It's set in Germany, but I think it's filmed in Italy.
Starting point is 00:37:54 Yeah, right. Okay. And it's... I'll find the description of the movie because it doesn't live up to it. Okay. That's where I'm going to go with this. Let's find it. Do you think that's to do with the era it was set in?
Starting point is 00:38:08 Yeah, I think definitely the description it's given was exactly at the time, and I think it might have been accurate for the time, but currently, absolutely not. Let's find it again. Here we go. Okay. So it says, it's rated r 18 plus cool widely
Starting point is 00:38:26 considered to be the most shocking and hallucinatory horror movie in history a young american ballet student who arrives at a prestigious european dance academy is confronted by a series of bizarre and horrific deaths okay spoiler alert witches witches done it and are they all they're all bad witches they're like mean and yeah they're tackling away they've got cauldrons and there's no cauldrons there it's more a um it's it's it's more like you know how a vampire will have like you know like like acolytes kind of thing okay yeah there is there is there's a main witch there's a there's a witch that is only really seen towards the end of the movie it's kind of who's kind of like kind of gruesome and like,
Starting point is 00:39:08 again, like a, like a vampire, like a really old vampire is kind of like mostly catatonic, but then arises. How's the makeup on that? It's actually not bad. And I was going to say also the,
Starting point is 00:39:17 the, again, it isn't, it isn't particularly shocking for now, but at the time, like the opening, the opening murder, it's, it's, it's, it's now, but at the time, like the opening murder, it's quite, it's actually quite,
Starting point is 00:39:29 the tension builds quite well, but there's a lot of stuff that is never explained. Like a murder takes place, but it's never really explained, whodunit. Yeah. It's just, I guess not. Yeah, I guess the witches do. Yakalites.
Starting point is 00:39:40 But there's a, the opening sequence, a student, this new student arrives at the ballet academy. It's really late at night. She gets turned away because they don't know why. They don't recognize who she is and they're like, come back, come back later. They didn't have email or anything. They didn't have email at the time.
Starting point is 00:39:58 Oh, imagine that life. Yuck. But as she is going away, another student leaves in fear. She's running away in fear and And she goes back to her apartment. And she is murdered. And it is pretty grisly. Really? Like at one point.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Because we talked about in the first Halloween movie. People are getting stabbed, but you never actually see it. There's blood and there's knives going in. At one point you see the chest cavity is torn open. And the beating heart gets stabbed. Oh, wow. It's really pretty intense. And then she gets hung.
Starting point is 00:40:29 It's a reel. And then there's maggots and there's horrific witch makeup. Okay. Visually, it's very interesting. But again, it is a movie from the late 70s, so there's a lot of space in it. There's a lot of long conversations. Right.
Starting point is 00:40:46 Okay. Fair enough. So yes. Yay or nay? I think it's kind of worth the watch. Because visually or just because it's a, it's one of those, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:40:57 Plot wise, does it hold up? Yeah. Not really. Okay. I think visually it's very interesting. Because you kind of got me and I'm like, okay,
Starting point is 00:41:02 that sounds, if that's the first of its kind, that's interesting to me. But maybe your description is enough. Maybe I'll just watch's very interesting. Because you kind of got me and I'm like, okay, that sounds, if that's the first of its kind, that's interesting to me. But maybe your description is enough. Maybe I'll just watch the new one. Yeah. Maybe just re-listen to my description of it. I will.
Starting point is 00:41:13 Well, I'll have to. Yeah. You will. It's true. Well, we'll get back to the ones, the other ones that you watched, but can I, I'm going to jump forward to a modern day one, which just came out. It's called Apostle. It's on Netflix.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Okay. It's got Dan Stevens from Legion in the lead. Oh, the Legion himself. The Legion himself. It's sort of witches, sort of. I won't spoil it
Starting point is 00:41:33 because it's brand new and people should watch it. This is all witch movies now. It's all witch. No, I haven't seen The Witch or The Vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv You know that one? I'm aware of it. That's another one where they were like, this is the scariest movie the world's ever seen. I've started a couple of times and been like, I should probably pay attention to this. I asked a couple of horror aficionado friends of mine
Starting point is 00:41:50 and they're like, it's fine. I heard there's a goat in it because whenever there's a goat in anything, people, I get a thousand messages. Yeah. Yeah, so basically, this is on Netflix. If you're a horror fan, it's, you know, it is a horror film. Is this a Netflix original?
Starting point is 00:42:04 Yes, but it's good. It's Gareth Evans who did The Raid. So it's basically Dan Stevens' sister goes missing and he's a former holy man and he's kind of dropped out of it and you find out why or whatever. Anyway, so he goes to this island commune to find his sister who's being held for ransom. And it's supposed to be this paradise where you can kind of do whatever you want
Starting point is 00:42:22 and everyone's living off the land, having a great time or whatever. But kind of the things unfold in a way that's very unpleasant and the community isn't what it seems and all that kind of stuff. And maybe it's supernatural. Maybe it's not. Maybe there's scenes where like people get their like their head, top of their head screwed open and whatever. Okay, sure. It's very, very gory. Okay.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Is it torture porny? No. Yeah, but it's less like, it's not like saw traps. It's more, it doesn't feel like that's the point of the movie, is what I'm saying. Okay, sure, right. There are elements of it, but it's not all that. And when it does happen, you're like wincing before it happens. Like someone's about to get their hand like mashed.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Okay. You're like, oh, it's just going to happen. And it's just, there's moments like that. I think it's well worth checking out it doesn't answer everything but it answers a lot of the stuff that you want to know you're not going to be lost uh dan stevens is really good and it's got the guy from uh you know the guy who plays tony blair and everything yeah sure right ahead of the community and it's it's it's good it's well worth checking out so and it's a new one and it's probably better than what the
Starting point is 00:43:23 one that you described oh come, come on, mate. Yeah, yeah. What do you got there? Also, the dubbing's really terrible in Suspiria. They dub it in English. No, because it's like a Jackie Chan movie. The dubbing doesn't match. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:36 The mouth movements don't match the audio. Apparently, some people were speaking in German. Some people were speaking in English. Some people were speaking in Italian. But they were just like would just say your line. Yeah, and we'll do whatever we can. So I think the American actor- That sounds like a Caravan of Garbage we've got coming up, Mason.
Starting point is 00:43:52 Remember the one? Yes, I do. Yeah, we'll get back to that. Yeah. This is not a horror movie in the traditional sense, but I think we've spoken about it before. This is from 1971, Wake and Fright, which is an Australian movie. I have seen that. Yeah, right?
Starting point is 00:44:02 It's great. Yeah. And terrifying. Yes, right? I really liked it. But there that. Yeah, right? It's great. Yeah. And terrifying. Yes, right? I really liked it. But there's no... No one's seen that movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:09 Well, apparently it was... I think it might have been... It disappeared for ages. It was... Hang on, I'll dig up some facts about it. It's not really a horror movie, but it is horrifying. It's one of two Australian films to be dominated for the Grand Prix du Festival at Cannes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:44:23 It was a commercial failure in Australia due to minimal production and also audiences being uncomfortable with its portrayal of outback life because as we all know Australians get very mad when you point out what we're actually like. Yeah and this one's pretty accurate
Starting point is 00:44:40 I've lived in remote places so it's basically a teacher who lives in a remote community and he's going to go back to sydney to see his girlfriend but on the way he gets kind of caught up in a small town on the way through he has a one thing i'd have forgotten he has a he has a like a dream sequence where he remembers his girlfriend yeah and he like and it's like he put puts his beer in between her boobs like that's it's the ultimate it's the dream the ultimate 1970s outback fantasy is like she's on the beach in a bikini and he's like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:08 He's got like the two-ease beer and just like. But it's, so he's stuck. It's got the great Donald Pleasance in it as well. Your mate. And also, what's his name? What's that blonde actor? It's the first, he posed for Cleo in the 70s. Oh, bloody. He's in broken arrow he's in
Starting point is 00:45:27 broken arrow yeah i know exactly it's not jack thompson yeah it doesn't feel like an old movie no it doesn't and it's feel and it's it looks really spectacular like it's really well it's well shot it catches the outback really well i used to live in in a it kind of really shook me a bit because i used to live in a very very very very small horrible little town yeah where i where i taught and just the idea of being like trapped there yeah which is what he is so yeah so so as you mentioned the plot is he's a teacher and he's like okay i'm gonna leave like up, I'm going to leave this town to go see my girlfriend. Bikinis and twoies. Yeah. But then he goes to, in order to get to Sydney,
Starting point is 00:46:12 like take the plane to Sydney, he has to stop off at another little town, which is further in the outback, I guess. And he gets an all game of two up, which is a coin flipping game that's illegal in Australia for some reason. Yeah. Except on certain days. Except on Anzac day.
Starting point is 00:46:29 Yeah. Something like that. But anyway, he, he gets on a winning streak and he's like, okay, if I win enough money, I won't have to be bonded to this teacher life.
Starting point is 00:46:36 I can pay back my bond and go back to Sydney, but he loses all his money. And so he can't fly back to Sydney. And all of a sudden he's stuck in this town. Yeah. And like I said, Australians hate to be... All Australians think we're like, we're fun-loving, rule-breaking larrikins,
Starting point is 00:46:53 but we're all just... Like, we're all just terrifying people. Not us. We're great. Well, I think, especially more that era, I think it captures that really, really well. Like, you see, like, the beer commercials of, like, you know, larrikins, you know, whatever. but if you've ever been to like a like a really shit town like a really dodgy pub yeah like it feels like i shouldn't be here i'm gonna get
Starting point is 00:47:13 fucking glass yeah it's very much like it's it's the terror of you're not a local at a locals only yeah location but also that a lot of them are also really friendly at the same time there's like a weird balance. There's also, the really controversial scene is there's roo shooting. For those people who don't know, which is a lot of people,
Starting point is 00:47:31 it's shooting kangaroos. Yeah, for sure. So if you go out in a... Now it is clear. I've never done it. If you've learned nothing else from this podcast, and you haven't.
Starting point is 00:47:38 I've never done it. I've never shot anything, but I've got family who have done it. Because there's a lot of kangaroos. Yeah, and it's... It is a conservation thing most of the time. Yes.
Starting point is 00:47:47 So you go out and if you put a light on a kangaroo, it will freeze. And then you can just shoot it. Yeah. So there's a scene of that where they do that for real. For real. They actually shoot kangaroos. It's real shooting. And so that...
Starting point is 00:47:58 One of them gets into a fist fight with a kangaroo. And that's real also. Yeah. One of them beats up a kangaroo. Yeah. So it's just this weird surreal nightmare but it's sort of a fun time but there's a really sinister creepy undertone the undertone is what what gets you yeah um yeah so so the apparently the the master negative of the film
Starting point is 00:48:19 it was it developed a cult reputation by the 90s because the master negative went missing and so the only time you'd see a version of it would be like it'd be censored for TV or they'd cut bits out or it was a poor quality or whatever and then it was digitally re-released in 2009 it's not that long ago
Starting point is 00:48:38 and then they did a TV series actually they did yeah so a rare 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, apparently. I'd recommend that. You won't like it, but it's a... But it's an interesting slice.
Starting point is 00:48:50 And again, it's not the dread of, oh my God, there's a guy with a knife and it could be anybody. And it's not the dread of like, oh my God, it's a monster and it can consume you or take on your other forms. Unless the monster is being trapped in a small town. Yeah, it's just any of these men could beat you up. And the drinking that happens in it, which is not uncommon here as well, there's insane binge drinking. And then people get up in the middle of the next day
Starting point is 00:49:16 and they're in a tin shed in the middle of the desert and there's no water. And just the thought of being that hungover in that location and there's no shower and you're just stuck with no money. It's just a nightmare. It's a nightmare of a movie. Yeah. Anyway, it's good.
Starting point is 00:49:33 It's good though, yeah. Be sure, check it out. Check it out, yeah. All right, well, let's talk about one that I also know we've both seen. This is way off what we're talking about. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. Oh, yes. Which is, it's the reverse of a hillbilly slasher movie
Starting point is 00:49:47 i guess so it's the best way to describe it so it's uh it's it's tucker and dale who are their their help there are a couple of helpful hillbillies yeah it's alan tudyk and who's the other guy he's in reaper i'll look up the cast okay talking talking. Who see some out-of-towners in distress. Yes. And who are like, and who inadvertently become... Tyler Labine. There we go. They inadvertently are seen as the murderous hillbillies
Starting point is 00:50:18 that they absolutely are not. Because often the perception when you, as we were just talking about in Australia, in a small town, it's like, oh, this is a creepy backwards person who wants to murder me. But they're super helpful and super nice, but they are not perceived that way. And things go awry. Yeah, right. And they're blamed for things that they are not responsible for.
Starting point is 00:50:37 And then who's the real villain, Mason? Evil. Yes, but also there's other things. Oh, yeah. Other things, twists occur. And it's fun. It's very gory. But it's like things. Oh, yeah. Other things, twists occur. It's fun. It's very gory. But it's like fun gory, right?
Starting point is 00:50:49 Yeah. What I think is interesting is that I find oftentimes I will enjoy a movie that parodies the tropes. More than the actual movie? To horror movies more than that. So like that or The Cabin in the Woods, which is a movie I really enjoy. Yeah. Even though I really only have a surface level appreciation of.
Starting point is 00:51:11 Everything in that. Everything in it. Like Cabin in the Woods covers vampires and Hellraiser and. The thing from the Black Lagoon or whatever. Exactly. And all that sort of stuff. Which, you know, everything of that I'm tangentially aware of, but I'm like, oh. Yeah. Great. If you love that kind of stuff. It's got everything. Which, you know, everything of that I'm tangentially aware of, but I'm like, oh, great. If you love that kind of stuff, if you love that genre,
Starting point is 00:51:28 you'll love The Mummy Universe, which is just kicking off. It's got all your favourite things. Oh, yeah. Terrific. Yeah, I guess I don't really want to spoil that movie, the one you just mentioned, Cabin in the Woods, if you haven't seen it, but there's a bit in that, and you'll know it.
Starting point is 00:51:41 There's a tipping point where it just goes fucking bananas in the best way. It's really good. um anyway tucker and dale i'd definitely recommend that what else you got mason all the other two that you watched i watched this is this was a re this is a a new watch for me because i have i had seen the texas chainsaw massacre i've never seen many years ago yeah which actually it is it is kind of a movie that I did enjoy. Yeah. And I thought, well, I've seen that. Maybe I should get in on some of these sequels.
Starting point is 00:52:11 I had no idea going in. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is a comedy. Is it? Yeah. Which one's got Matthew McConaughey? The one in the 90s? Yeah, I think it might be 3. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:22 Yeah. This one has Dennis Hopper engaging in chainsaw duels with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre fans. That kind of Evil Dead 2'd it? A little bit, yeah. So the theatrical release poster for this movie, I'd seen before. I assumed it was a parody. It's the Leatherface clan, like, as the Breakfast Club. Right, okay.
Starting point is 00:52:42 Like, all laid down upon one another. Oh. Yeah. But it's the actual... It's the same director as the first one, but it's just... It's 12 years later, I think. And it's...
Starting point is 00:52:53 At this point, the genre's already descended into self-parody. Right, right, yeah. So it's... But it's... So you mean real-time 12 years later? Real-time 12 years later. Okay, right.
Starting point is 00:53:00 It's set 12 years later, and it is... Or 13 years later, and it was... And filmed 13 years later. Okay. 12 years later and it is or 13 years later and it was and filmed 13 years later okay yeah and it's
Starting point is 00:53:09 it's actually it's it's super gory and it is fun in how over the top like the first one is quite subdued yeah
Starting point is 00:53:19 and I'm like well this one might be like I don't know if I'm going to enjoy this because it'll be it's going to be more of the same and it'll be a bit of a ponderous watch it is not it is is it worth it the initial the initial the opening sequence it's it's two super obnoxious preppy dudes
Starting point is 00:53:35 who are driving through texas and they're just firing gun one of them's got a gun like they're they're like blazer and cable knit kind of preppy dudes. And one of them's just, they're just driving along and they're just firing guns at roadside signs. And they're like playing chicken with farmers. And they're calling up a local DJ, like a local radio station. From a pay phone?
Starting point is 00:53:59 No, from in their car phone. Oh, preppy. Because they're those kind of guys, right? And they're just, like they're portrayed as like the worst dudes in the world and so you're like boy i hope i hope something bad happens to these guys some kind of massacre some kind of massacre exactly and then they're just time like the worst of all like they're they're driving people off the road and they're shooting guns you know but they're also tying up the line at a radio station you know and then they then they
Starting point is 00:54:23 gets to late at night they They're still driving through Texas and they encounter, they're like, we'll play chicken with this dude in this truck. But then it turns out it's Leatherface who chainsaws one of their heads off. Just like driving past. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:35 No, no, no. There's like a sequence where like they play chicken with a guy and then like the truck kind of keeps pace with them. Right. And they're like, oh no, this guy's coming at me. Good, whatever. And then the truck kind of keeps pace with them. Right. And they're like, oh, no, this guy's coming at me. Good, whatever. And then the driver gets the top of his head chainsawed off.
Starting point is 00:54:51 Sweet. And then there's blood. There's like that ridiculous arterial spray thing. Yeah, right. Okay. Is it good? It's not good. See, here's also the thing.
Starting point is 00:55:13 it's not good see here's also the thing like it's we i i also feel like it is it's it's rude to to paint horror movies as a genre with a really broad brush and go like all these movies are terrible because it's like what's like comic book movies it's like action movies it's like action movies if you were like i recommend me some good action movies and I'm like well you gotta watch Missing in Action 3 or whatever like there's gotta be
Starting point is 00:55:29 like generic weird stuff like if you if you just watch the length and breadth of all the action movies from like 1979
Starting point is 00:55:37 to like 2000 most of them are gonna be terrible because everything's bad until Die Hard exactly yeah but this one was really fun.
Starting point is 00:55:45 I enjoyed it. And again, Dennis Hopper's in this. Dennis Hopper's in this as the uncle of one of the people who was killed in the original one. And so he spent 13 years trying to solve that mystery. Which changed it. Yeah. Apparently the whole Leatherface clan went to ground after the first one.
Starting point is 00:56:00 Oh, okay. Because nobody gets their comeuppance at the end of the first Texas Chaw massacre like the the the one survivor gets in a truck and drives away and leatherface is just like hey come back here i got a chain like waving a chainsaw i got a chainsaw which is the funniest part of that original movie it's just they get away and and he's just like the equivalent of shaking his fist like hey you kids get out of here just to clarify uh the matthew mcconughey one is number four. Oh, it's four? Because we'll definitely get emails.
Starting point is 00:56:28 Okay, right. It's one that's also a recent one. It's called The Ritual, and it's also a Netflix one. I didn't watch it this week. I've watched it prior. It's basically a hiking team. Not team, though, just a friend. Ooh, hiking friends.
Starting point is 00:56:43 A tragedy happens to them at the beginning one of them blames himself for that thing and they're doing this kind of uh they're trying to renew their friendship and heal and move forward from this this tragic act that happened so they go out into the country in europe and they're going to hike this particular trail one of them rolls their ankle or breaks their ankle and they're like okay we can go around and this will take this many days but if we we cut through the spooky woods... Oh, not the spooky woods. Then we'll be out in X amount of time
Starting point is 00:57:09 and we'll be at home for supper or whatever. So they go through and everything goes bloody bad. It's not a good time in there. There's like cults and are they being stalked by a monster? Are they breaking down psychologically? A series of things happen. It stars the guy who tells Simon Pegg you got red on him from Shaun of the Dead.
Starting point is 00:57:30 Shaun of the Dead, right, okay. It's really good. Good to hear he's going places, that guy. Yeah, it's unsettling. And it feels like a real forest. It feels like you're really trapped in there. And it's just one of those things where you're like, I just want them to be out of this fucking
Starting point is 00:57:45 forest because it's just an absolute nightmare and there's kind of devil worshippery and things like that and all what you think is and
Starting point is 00:57:51 because I can't stumble across this like spooky cabin and it's kind of a bit Blair Witch but imagine a good version of that that's filmed properly
Starting point is 00:57:57 now that's cruel and you can understand it because that's because the Blair Witch Project blew like it blew our minds
Starting point is 00:58:04 no it didn't yes it did it blew some people's did it not blow your mind no I never thought it was real Because the Blair Witch Project blew our minds. No, it didn't. Yes, it did. No, it didn't. It blew some people's, did it not blow your mind? No. Well, I never thought it was real. Oh, yeah. And also, I guess the thing about the Blair Witch Project is that I feel the same.
Starting point is 00:58:17 Full credit for that movie on the budget doing that well and starting that genre. Yeah, right. But I just don't like it. Thanks for all the found footage movies we've seen, most of which are terrible. See, there we go. But I think Blair Witch Project came out in that era when Australia would get movies significantly later
Starting point is 00:58:37 than other people. So by the time it came out in Australia, we'd already seen interviews with the cast who were dead in the movie but still fine again and laughing about it or whatever. So, yeah. So I think if we hadn't been surprised, if we'd been surprised, I think the outcome would have been better.
Starting point is 00:58:53 Also, Blair Witch doesn't have a real ending. I don't care what anyone says. Oh, because it's just the staring. Or if you look it up or whatever. Isn't there just a woman? Yeah, someone's facing the wall or whatever. It's like, well, if you look it up online, that witch says, if you don't look at her,
Starting point is 00:59:03 I don't give a shit yeah right so but this is that and also the actual thing that it is or whether it be a person or a monster or whatever in this
Starting point is 00:59:12 is very unsettling so yeah I would say how without giving it away it's not like a spooky like that's a terrifying it's just it's just like
Starting point is 00:59:22 oh that's good I haven't seen that oh I see that's what it is is it a man with teeth in his face because we just saw that in doctor who oh no it's not that it's not that right yeah what do you find more unsettling in a horror movie like a concept that's executed well i think it can be anything i don't think there's a monster where i see it and go that's scary monster like it has to everything around it has to has to i meant more in the sense of are you are you what do you find more like ghosts or a real life thing would you rather would you rather watch a movie about with ghosts or would you rather watch a movie about like an insane like a person who went insane and just
Starting point is 01:00:00 is is lives in our community you know i'm not really a ghost ghost movie guy yeah right uh-huh i don't like them i don't like where they're about and i don't believe in them okay but so i guess probably but anything can be done well probably a real thing i don't know what about you yeah i think i find but i just don't like ghosts yeah right so if it was something else supernatural i'd probably prefer that okay right yeah i think i think in terms of creep factor definitely a real life i think i i think i enjoy the movies more if it is i think i enjoy watching a movie and i'll have more fun with it if it is a supernatural thing yeah like i can just i can just switch the brain off and be like oh vampires i love it but i think if it like if i if i want the mummy exactly vampire skull
Starting point is 01:00:47 but i think in terms of like if i want to be creeped out yeah i don't that's the thing i don't really want to be creeped out yeah i will watch one with where the killer is just they show up at your door and they murder you yeah you know i also feel like i'd stand more of a chance in real life of that than like a ghost that can throw a knife at me i guess that's true but i guess if if see that's the thing because if ghosts are real other stuff's got to be you know not necessarily no i think that's true i think like dogs are real but unicorns aren't real they're two things oh, I meant more in the sense of, like, if ghosts are real... Oh, then heaven's real? No, but then you have, I guess...
Starting point is 01:01:28 I guess. But you have... Then you could have some sort of supernatural defenses against, like, potentially... Maybe. Yeah. It depends. There doesn't have to be rules. I guess, yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:39 I guess that's true. You know, it could just be, like, there's vampires and you can't do anything. So that's too bad I guess that's true yeah yeah that would make the satisfying viewing
Starting point is 01:01:48 wouldn't it I just feel like if there's ghosts then there's gotta be a counter there's gotta be a counter to ghosts
Starting point is 01:01:55 or at least there's gotta be some science behind it and if you can figure that out then you have a defence against that and you can throw a knife
Starting point is 01:02:01 but if I just show if I just open my front door and there's a lunatic with a knife but there is a defence against that. And you can throw a knife. But if I just open my front door and there's a lunatic with a knife... But there is a defense against that. Another knife? A bigger knife? Yeah, or a brick.
Starting point is 01:02:09 I guess that's true. Or you slamming the door on their arm. Well, I do live in the classic college student apartment where my coffee table's held up by bricks. So I guess I've got plenty of defenses. I could just hurl bricks at him, I guess. You got another one? Look, the last one I watched, and this is my second rewatch.
Starting point is 01:02:27 Okay. And again, speaking of movies that, where I enjoy them paying homage or satirizing the tropes of movies more so than the movies themselves, I watched a movie called Behind the Mask, The Rise of Leslie Vernon, which is from about 2006 or 2007. I've never heard of this. And I guess it's a black comedy, and it's a mockumentary. It takes place in a small town, and it follows a film crew who are documenting a guy called Leslie Vernon
Starting point is 01:02:59 who's an aspiring serial killer, and he exists in a world in which all the serial killers in in horror movies are real right so so i and i is it a bit what we do in the shadows yeah a little bit and so it's basically a world in which uh you uh you know the michael myers from halloween is real and freddy krueger is real they reference them specifically like specifically? Because it's parody, they can do it? Like epic movie? Yeah, I think... They are mentioned specifically.
Starting point is 01:03:35 Freddy Krueger is referred to as, I think, Frederick. Right, okay. I think. And the town of Hattersfield is mentioned, which is the town in Halloween. I guess you can reference those things without stepping on the ghost. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And basically, it documents his...
Starting point is 01:03:49 And he claims to be... I think he claims to be the reincarnation of a murdered child or something. He's a vengeful spirit of a boy that was killed and he's been reincarnated in this body. So, almost a bit Mystery Men-ish? Yeah, a little bit, yeah. And it's a lot of fun. And I think I got more out of it this time around
Starting point is 01:04:08 just having watched Halloween, maybe. And you know that now. I do know that now. Yeah, exactly. That actually sounds pretty interesting. I don't know where I watched. I think there's just some rips on... There's a rip on YouTube and you can...
Starting point is 01:04:22 I'm sure you can probably buy it on DVD if you're that way inclined. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, I'm sure you can probably buy it on DVD if you're that way inclined. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, I could probably, I can, I got a few more here. I've got Train to Busan, which I've talked about before. That's a zombie movie, but I think we should probably do a zombie movie episode.
Starting point is 01:04:35 Spectacular. I got a lot of those. Do you not think that'll be exhausting? No, I think there's a lot of good ones. Okay. All right. I can name 10 off the top of your head. Wow. But I've watched watched there's two
Starting point is 01:04:46 i watched this week which are also on netflix i was gonna say saying can you can you reference uh any famous horror stuff in that movie there there is a robert england cameo oh and there's also if you remember there is a little person uh uh she's like a psychic medium in all the poltergeist movies i haven't seen it okay she's zelda rubinstein i think his name she's like a psychic medium in all the Poltergeist movies. I haven't seen any of them. Okay, Zelda Rubinstein, I think is her name. She is in it, as is Kane Hodder, who was Jason in a lot of the Friday the 13th movies. So it's a bit of an in-jokey kind of...
Starting point is 01:05:16 Is he Jason from Jason X? I think he is Jason from Jason X, yeah. Now that's a movie. You better believe it. I watched Creep 1 and 2, which are both on Netflix. Yes. Are you familiar with Creep? Are they from the 80s?
Starting point is 01:05:28 No, they're recent. Okay. It's a... Hang on, I just got to bring up... It's one of the Duplass brothers is in it. Okay. Which one is it? Mark Duplass.
Starting point is 01:05:38 I was going to say Mark Duplass. Yeah, and basically it's found footage. Yes. But good. Ooh. So basically it's found footage, but good. So basically it's a guy and he answers a friend, a request for a man who wants to have his day documented. So he gets there and the guy gives him this whole spiel about how, look, I've got cancer and I'm going to die and I've got a child on the way.
Starting point is 01:06:03 I want you to document my day so my son can watch this or whatever. And then, you know, that's kind of how I want this to go. So he's got something to remember me by. And you're like, okay, this is off. Like the guy's a little off and there's like a weird kind of rapport. He's a bit unsettling. And Mark Duplass is the guy. And as it goes on, kind of, it gets a little bit weirder,
Starting point is 01:06:20 but then it gets a little bit more heartfelt. And then things are revealed and you're like, what's real? What's not real? And you're kind of like, is this guy a serial killer what what is what is this uh-huh and you all those all those things are answered okay and then it ends in a way that definitively answers it and then there's a sequel which takes that idea where the last one left off and i think builds on it in a better way so you find out definitively what's going on. And from the next one, they build a story from that and I can't get into it,
Starting point is 01:06:47 which really, instead of going, let's just do the same thing again. They, they make a probably equally good movie. So I would say, but these are Netflix. Did you say they're on Netflix?
Starting point is 01:07:00 Huh? So I would say I've did that thing that you said you were going to do and just watch movies on Netflix. I do have others here, but these are the ones. Okay. Right. So I think they're did that thing that you said you were going to do And just watch movies on Netflix I do have others here But these are the ones Okay, right So I think they're well worth checking out There's a horror movie from, I want to say about 1999
Starting point is 01:07:12 It's a Takeshi Miike film It's a Japanese horror Takeshi's Castle, I've seen it Yeah, it's Dave Lister does the narration Exactly Watch out for your balls Oh, you got hit in the balls
Starting point is 01:07:24 So it's called Audition yeah and it's it's similar it's about it's basically a it's a
Starting point is 01:07:32 it's a movie about this widower who wants to find a new wife and so he stages a phony audition for like like a film audition to find a new wife
Starting point is 01:07:41 okay and it's one of those again it's one of those movies where it's like oh something's not right here but it is yes of those movies where it's like, oh, something's not right here. But it is. Yes. It is right.
Starting point is 01:07:48 No, it's wrong. Oh, okay. I don't want to spoil that one. But get into it? Yeah, get into it. But not really because it's one of those ones where it's pretty,
Starting point is 01:07:57 I don't know, it's pretty gory and intense and it's not really for me. What did you say it was called? It's called Audition. Okay. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 01:08:03 I'll check it out maybe if it's on Netflix. Yeah. Or Stan. I don't think it is. Or Amazon. I don't think it's on any of those things. Great. Also, you say it was called? It's called Audition. Okay. Yeah. All right. I'll check it out maybe if it's on Netflix. Yeah. Or Stan. I don't think it is. Or Amazon. I don't think it's on any of those things. Great.
Starting point is 01:08:08 Also, do you remember Hard Candy? It's got that Ellen Page movie. I haven't seen it. I don't know what you're talking about. Is that the one where she like traps a pedophile or whatever? Yep. Yeah. I've heard that's good.
Starting point is 01:08:16 It is good. Is Patrick Wilson in that? Maybe. Yeah. He's in a lot of those movies, isn't he? He's in a lot of movies in general, I would say. One would argue. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Will that do it? general, I would say. One would argue. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:25 Yeah, okay. Will that do it? Yeah, that'll do it, I think. Okay, now, Mason, I know that that was the end of the segment, but do you mind if I sneak in a cheeky hate mail with a hate? Oh, I'd love it. That's very exciting. For those people who don't know, every now and then, I bottle up enough hate mail from the YouTube comments
Starting point is 01:08:41 where I can then recite them on this show, as long as they're real, and as long as there's hate, and as long as there's hate. There's never hate. There's plenty of hate. Hang on. Patrick Wilson was in hard candy. There is hate this week. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:08:55 Can you add one or take one away? Well, here's the thing. This is a very special edition of Hate Mail, but the hate has an agent in it. Oh, why? Because it's all one person. Oh my goodness. Okay. Does he have eight points to make?
Starting point is 01:09:05 Yes. Wow. Well, there's more than that in here. Okay. So I could go through it all and I might, but you know, we'll see how we go.
Starting point is 01:09:12 Basically, I don't know if a few weeks back we did a video together, which Matt edited, which was about the X-Men timeline and how it's broken. Oh yes, sure. And how all these movies
Starting point is 01:09:22 don't really connect and they're sort of in the same universe, but they may as well be set in different whatevers and they all contradict each other. Right? yes, sure. And how all these movies don't really connect and they're sort of in the same universe, but they may as well be set in different whatevers and they all contradict each other, right? Yes, sure. And we say how even though the continuity was fixed, when they reset everything,
Starting point is 01:09:33 then they just broke it again and they just went for it. This person takes umbrage with that and many other points. This is a YouTube comment. Yes, this is from X-Men Magneto Acolytes. Okay, well, he's got an agenda, for starters. This isn't some Joe Lunchpail off the street who's just like, well, you know, bloody, all right.
Starting point is 01:09:54 He's really... We'll see. You might be surprised about some of the good points here. What is the character limit on a YouTube comment? Is it anything? It's pretty infinite. Oh, jeez. That's all I can tell.
Starting point is 01:10:03 Might be 500 characters. I don't know. You guys were all over the place. It's sad how stupid you guys are, and X3 was the first Marvel movie to have a post-credits scene, but it isn't canon. Can you see the... Wait, wait, wait.
Starting point is 01:10:14 Are we going to break this down at the end, or what are we going to do? Feel free to stop me whenever you want. So we're idiots. I mean, he didn't have to say that. It's assumed we're idiots I mean he didn't have to say that it's assumed we're idiots it's fine we're wrong because
Starting point is 01:10:28 X-Men 3 has the first post credit sequence but it's not canon so are we wrong or is X-Men 3 wrong is the question also we said that it's not canon in the video
Starting point is 01:10:38 yeah right can you say they're doing Dark Phoenix again as a reboot not the same character you dumb fucks. Because they erased all the fucking movies. Which ones?
Starting point is 01:10:48 So X-Men 1 through 3. Except for first class. Okay. Brilliantly using the comic book accurate story, Days of Future Past. When I do that, it's capital. Oh, is that what it is? Yeah. As a goodbye to the old and hello to the new, which are Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.
Starting point is 01:11:01 Deadpool is set in present day, but lives in his own space with Time Traveller. Logan was set in 2029, far in the future, that could be altered because of Deadpool 2, which makes the future uncertain and unpredictable again. That is one comment. The skulls in Captain Marvel are trash.
Starting point is 01:11:19 Oh, he's making... Wait. Is he making multiple comments? Okay, right. Looking more and more often... Wait, wait. Is he commenting on the same video? Same video. Okay, right. There's eight of these. Looking more and more often... Wait, wait, is he commenting on the same video? Same video.
Starting point is 01:11:26 Okay, right. More and more often than not, Disney gets the best looks, which is the one edge I give them over Fox. Story-wise, Fox hands down is superior and the only studio you can trust to do rated R. Sony proved that for a fact. You fake comic book fans.
Starting point is 01:11:41 You fake comic book fan. Fans, mommies. I thought it was going to go a whole... I thought it was going to go a whole sentence without insulting us personally, but he squeezed it in. You fake comic book fan mommies don't allow you to see R-rated movies. Well, I disagree, because I just saw the movie Suspiria, which is the most horrifying movie ever made.
Starting point is 01:11:59 These might be mixed up as well. This might have been the first one. Unsubscribed! It is not broken and you are a dumpster fire. X-Men First Class 63 was a soft reboot. Then Days of Future Past 1973 made the new timeline after 1973 forward, erasing the old trilogy which leads to the Sentinels run future. God, you're stupid.
Starting point is 01:12:21 Apocalypse is 10 years after 1973, which is 83 setting up the core team in high school. Now, following that is Dark Phoenix, which is set nine years later in 1992. In present day, capital Y at the end. Okay, yeah. It's the Deadpool movies, but he lives in his own space. How fucking stupid are you trolls?
Starting point is 01:12:37 Disney MCU continuity is out of whack. X-Men movie continuity is perfect for what they are in the comics with time travel and et cetera. Doesn't really explain though why like Angel exists in the 80s as a teenager, but then also a teenager. No, it's better. Oh, it's better. Okay, cool. All right.
Starting point is 01:12:57 Yeah, that's a good point. Next comment. I guess he just spontaneously was born earlier. Yeah, he turned into an angel. Yeah, right. The timeline was reset in Days of Future Past to 1973. Forward, he turned into an angel. Yeah, right. The timeline was reset in days of future past to 1973. Forward,
Starting point is 01:13:07 everything is rebooted. So only first class Apoc, Dark Phoenix, are canon. Deadpool is a present day but he lives in his own space. Wait, so,
Starting point is 01:13:15 yeah, he's really hammering that home. Does he think he lives with Deadpool? I don't know. It feels like... I don't know what this is. It feels like they're roommates or something. this is It feels like they're roommates or something
Starting point is 01:13:26 Deadpool It feels like they're roommates and he's like Now Deadpool, just remember There's a line down the middle of the fridge You live in your own space You live in your own space, mate There's nothing on the other side Because Deadpool doesn't really live with him
Starting point is 01:13:38 This is not real Deadpool lives in his own space And now has cable Not hard only for Disney retards Who are kids who wet the beds And don't read comics oh that's us next comment x-men new canon since first class is perfect only an uneducated moron that either hasn't seen or not wanted to pay attention to the films can't see
Starting point is 01:13:56 how good the x-men new timeline is you disney studio whores make up excuses and theories for the mcu even when the plot holes And continuity areas can't be answered That's terrific good for him Like what the fuck with Coulson's death LOL and AOS slashing humans Everything X-Men has an answer Wait wait wait what is he saying there about Coulson How dare he impugn
Starting point is 01:14:17 The whatever of Coulson The honour of Coulson X-Men has an answer and quit bringing up Movies that are not canon anymore. Deadpool lives in his own space so he can bring back anything. Deadpool does live in his own space. Deadpool, I think it's time you get
Starting point is 01:14:33 your own space. X-Men new canon. Okay, I've come up with a theory. He calls himself Deadpool. Yeah. And he's got his own space. He's recently. Moved out?
Starting point is 01:14:47 Moved out. He's recently been ejected from his family home. Or he shared a room with his brother and now he doesn't. Now he has his. Oh, his brother's left. Oh, no, that's good. His brother's moved out now. Deadpool has his own space.
Starting point is 01:14:58 I get it. New comment. X-Men new canon colon first class bracket 63. Days of Future Past 1973 only. X-Men New Canon colon first class bracket 63. Days of Future Past 1973 only. X-Men Apocalypse 1983. We last saw Logan run into the Canadian forest at Xavier Institute established Dark Phoenix
Starting point is 01:15:15 1992. News stories and retelling like Beast said in Days of Future Past. Time is immutable. You can throw a pebble into a river but it will always correct itself. So events can be similar but they will be he brought Alpha Flight into this? Yes. Alpha Flight's not in any of those movies. None of those guys.
Starting point is 01:15:38 Isn't one of them in the old man in the first Wolverine movie, maybe? Is he? In the barn. Really? The old man who gives him his jacket, maybe? But that's not canon anymore, so it doesn't matter. Is this a guy you've been talking about?
Starting point is 01:15:49 2017, Deadpool 2. I think that was this year, wasn't it? Yeah, it was. Yeah. New Mutants confirmed modern day and X-Force. Yeah. Next comment.
Starting point is 01:15:58 Daisy Future Past explains that the old trilogy and all the movies set after 1973 are gone. I bet you didn't even see the road cut. Well, that's true. Oh, no, we did see it. We did a commentary. We did a commentary on the road cut. all the movies set after 1973 are gone. I bet you didn't even see the road cut. Well, that's true. Oh, no, we did see it.
Starting point is 01:16:06 We did a commentary on the road cut. Where the movies talk about voting because they realise those versions of them will be erased from existence. And so, is the movies that lead to the future? Get it? Or if you're not, you're just trolling, beating the MCU bandwagon drums. Kevin Feige started X-Men 2000.
Starting point is 01:16:24 That is where he first met Stan Lee. So ha. That's a really good point, actually. Yeah. This is the last one. But the first two I read are actually the last two. Okay, right. Okay.
Starting point is 01:16:34 That's a lot. Yeah. The X-Men movies are made for the masses who aren't comic book fans, which is why they are such a departure. Wait, which ones are? The X-Men. No, sorry. The MCU movies.
Starting point is 01:16:43 Sorry. Yeah. They're made for the masses and aren't comic book fans, which is are... The X-Men. No, sorry, the MCU movies. Sorry. Yeah. They're made for the masses and aren't coming with fans, which is why there's Departure with only a mix of millions of things and mostly, like, Sokovia, which is only made up for the movies
Starting point is 01:16:54 and doesn't exist in Marvel anything. Or in real life. But kids that don't know comics overrate shit like that. Fox, which has been more accurate to the comics story-wise... Unless in detail than Disney X... it like that. Fox, which has been more accurate to the comics story-wise. And less in detail than Disney MCU
Starting point is 01:17:09 made the comic book franchise possible thanks to the Donners, especially Richard Rackett's 1973. I thought he meant the Donners. Superman 1973. All female punk band, the Donners. Also, Superman didn't come in at 1973. Kinberg, Hutch, and Kevin Feige who did X-Men 1, 2, and Executive Producer on The Last Stand. And then he goes on to think about the Skrulls
Starting point is 01:17:26 and then there's another comment at the end What I like about this guy is he's wrote learned a lot of things and he yells about them The last comment as I read first Deadpool is set in the present day but he does live in his own space He does live in his own space
Starting point is 01:17:37 It's very true So anyway, that's a person who's got a lot of their own things going on That's good Yeah Terrific Wow, that's I just It's got a lot of their own things going on. That's good. Yeah. Terrific. Wow. It's the effort of that.
Starting point is 01:17:49 Yeah. Because I kept going back and checking. Oh, there's another one. Because I found the one. I'm like, that's gold. But then it just kept unfolding. It was a gift that kept on giving. I like him a lot.
Starting point is 01:18:00 I like his passion. Me too. For a terrible movie franchise. Yeah. That's the thing you pick. Yeah. Because nobody's ever like, I will defend the X-Men movies to death. Like, people will defend the DC movies to death.
Starting point is 01:18:10 Yeah. But that's, anyway. Yeah. Good luck to you. Yeah, good on him. Get out there. Yeah. You know what time for, Mason?
Starting point is 01:18:16 What we read and what we're going to read? That's right. I'm doing the thing. What are we reading today? What are we reading today? What are you reading? Well, I've got to watch Dead Devil. Well, I'm not going to watch Deadpool because he's got his own space and I want to leave him that space. But I would like to watch Dead Devil Season 3.
Starting point is 01:18:37 Yes. If I can bloody find it. I'm about three and a half in. I just started today. Okay, how do you feel about it? I like it. Yeah? I haven't been back in since The Defenders.
Starting point is 01:18:46 This is the one I started on. I like the characters. Yep. I like that he gets his black suit back. I like there's more Kingpin in it. Would you say black suits are coming? I would say that. Not with your head?
Starting point is 01:18:56 I wouldn't on my head. I think that's a better... I've talked about this before. It's a better Men in Black rap than the first one. All right. Black suits coming is the better song. Yeah, I know. It doesn't get the kudos it deserves. that's true yeah yeah it's only fan boys what
Starting point is 01:19:10 what's that what's that guy say yeah no i don't know yeah i'll email it too okay thank you it's long um um is anybody gonna want to hear any of that that i just read out there i love it i wanted to hear it that's's the important thing. Do you feel like you've missed out on anything? No. Because you have watched. Because it kind of picks up from where Defenders ends off. And you find out how he survived when that building fell on him. Indestructible suit?
Starting point is 01:19:35 That I really explained. Okay, great. It's like the opening. Yeah, right. So it's not like spoiling anything. Okay, right. No, he's also a really good Deadpool. He's in his own space in my head, Mason.
Starting point is 01:19:47 That's right, yeah. That's how he gets in, yeah. It's going to be a shame when they cancel all these forever or whatever. I would like to see him move over into movies. I think he could work. I also feel like what I would like is for them to do a Defenders. Just go, okay, we'll get all the characters. Now they're in the Defenders.
Starting point is 01:20:01 We're going to do a season every year of the Defenders. The problem is that the brand has been kind of tarnished by the fact that nobody really liked The Defenders. I liked that season of The Defenders. I thought it was good, but I think it was kind of tarnished by a not great season one of Iron Fist and some other disappointing stuff.
Starting point is 01:20:21 And so I think a lot of people were like, I don't care about The Defenders. I'm bored. I'm not going to watch it or whatever. And so that didn't get the positive response to say the first season of Daredevil or Jesse Jones or whatever got. And so I think if you were to put them in,
Starting point is 01:20:33 just go, okay, now they're just The Defenders. We're going to pack them all in, make them The Defenders. A lot of people are going to be like, yeah, but I didn't really love The Defenders, so I'm not going to watch this. Maybe do a movie instead. Sorry?
Starting point is 01:20:43 Maybe do a movie instead. Like even a Netflix movie yes or maybe they just cancel all these yeah maybe cancel them I don't know yeah
Starting point is 01:20:50 anyway I think it's I'm going to stick with it Jessica Jones is still going right? there's going to be season 3 of that I mean there was a season 3 of Luke Cage until yeah that's true yeah
Starting point is 01:20:58 are they going to shoot that nice suit up? he was wearing a nice suit at the end of season 2 of? oh Luke Cage I haven't seen it he looks great in it yeah looks great big man in a nice suit at the end of season two of oh luke cage i haven't seen it
Starting point is 01:21:06 he looks great in it yeah looks right big man in a nice suit it's good we'll never know we'll never know are you reading anything else i guess you watched a lot of horror movies i sure did yeah uh anything else let me think well this is a bit of a precursor masem but there's a video coming up this week on the channel mr sunday movies youtube slash org.net i've heard of it uh where we talk about some really good horror comics. Oh, yeah. So if you want some horror comics. I better think of some in between now and when we record that.
Starting point is 01:21:30 When we record that video. Yeah, that's right. That'll be up on Thursday. And also, if you want Halloween-themed things, there's a Caravan of Garbage from last week, which is a playthrough of a Halloween game where you try to escape from Michael Myers or, in our case, try to get murdered.
Starting point is 01:21:43 The video is a bit of a slow burn but let me tell you once it gets into gear it pays off big time yeah it goes somewhere I think that's Ben did a really good job on that
Starting point is 01:21:54 anything else? thanks Ben thanks Ben that's it for the minute oh also there's a 16 bit scene a new one John has edited together with music from Kenny
Starting point is 01:22:02 of Thanos' snap oh yeah in 16-bit. Cool. So that's up now. That's very good. What else? What else can we spruik?
Starting point is 01:22:09 I don't know. That's about it, I think. Bojack Horseman. I'm churning through that. Churning through that? Yeah, I haven't finished it yet. Bit of a downer? I never think it's that much of a downer,
Starting point is 01:22:21 but maybe a lot of people do. I've been keeping up with It's Always Sunny and it is consistently great. Great, okay. Yeah. And I love Mac's commitment to changing his body every season. Because he was really fat the previous season
Starting point is 01:22:33 and now he's super ripped now. He's crazy ripped. Yeah, right, okay. Like 300 rips. Right, okay. Yeah, it's really bizarre. And he put up an Instagram post, didn't he, where he was like...
Starting point is 01:22:42 I didn't need anything. It's so easy. All you have to do is, you know, get the studio to pay for a personal trainer and not eat anything you enjoy and blah, blah, blah, blah. And like that. Yeah. I do that for nine months or whatever. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:54 But no, it's, it's consistently good. Is it the last season? It might be. I don't know. It's been going since like 2005 or whatever. Yeah. Right. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 01:23:01 Latest theme. Oh yeah. You could do the theme. Silent. The classic one was the letters. Oh, letters. Weters theme. Oh, yeah. You could do the theme. Silent. The classic one was Letters, oh letters We love you Some letters They're only
Starting point is 01:23:10 A day away I know they're here right now. We're going to do letters. If you want to letters the show, hashtag Weekly Planet Pod on Twitter, shoot it through, and we'll read out a few every week. Shoot it through!
Starting point is 01:23:21 Or weeklyplanetpod.gmail.com and Mason will scroll through your Scroll it through! lovely messages, andpod.gmail.com and Mason will scroll through your... Scroll it through! ...lovely messages. And maybe he's got one ready to go in... One, two, three... This one is for... Four...
Starting point is 01:23:33 No, but I've... No, no, what are you... Are you counting to ten? What's going on? I'm going to 20. Oh, okay. This is from Dr. Crunchy Elements. Okay.
Starting point is 01:23:42 James and Nick, if you were to gain the powers of a superhero villain, i.e. the Flash, and decide to become a superhero or villain, would you come up with a name for yourself or would you take on the identity of the character? Like if you gained the Flash's powers. The actual powers. Yes. Nah, I'd do my own thing. See, I'd have to get the costume.
Starting point is 01:23:58 I wouldn't. Yeah. Well, you'd have to create your own costume. Nah, you'd just get him off Etsy. Like a flash costume I get ads for that on my Instagram all the time I think it's like I clicked on one once
Starting point is 01:24:08 because it was like a Spiderman costume I'm like that looks pretty good I'm never gonna buy it but now I just get ads for superhero costumes terrific I get a lot of
Starting point is 01:24:17 Nicki Minaj videos I've never clicked on anything with Nicki Minaj it seems like you have basically but I guess one time I'm like why do I keep getting actually click and then I'm like
Starting point is 01:24:24 oh now it's Nicki Minajaj videos forever um she seems nice i've never heard a rap i don't know yeah yeah um he says uh dr crunch elements says i personally feel i would attempt to create my own identity but i feel like the public the public would just label me as the flash anyway because of how well-known the character is that's a good point you'd be like oh oh, it's a... Yeah. I couldn't think of a better name, though. What about the Wizard?
Starting point is 01:24:49 That's a shit name. Yeah. Yeah, you'd have to be a branding exercise. You'd really have to... You'd have to design a costume that is the polar opposite of that. And then you'd have to get on... You'd have to get on the socials.
Starting point is 01:25:02 You'd have to put up an Instagram account. And that's when you get done, though. That's when they find out who you are. Yeah, that's true. Because Zuckerberg's watching you. And everybody would be like, hey, The Flash, hey! I don't think it's even up to you. You want to fight?
Starting point is 01:25:14 Even in comics, and then you kill them, is what you're saying. But even in the comics, superheroes, they don't often name themselves anymore. That's true. They just get named from whoever's like, you're Superman. I feel this, we'd have to follow the same tactic here if we became serial killers as well. Okay, yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:31 You've got to brand yourself. Because otherwise you get like a name like, the dancing killer or whatever, something like, I'm the dragon of time and space. Yeah, exactly. That's right. I get really upset.
Starting point is 01:25:42 Yeah. But then you'd be like, he's the he's the poop splatter killer because he dragged because he you went you were like you planned it also you planned it all so well and you were like i'm the dragon of space and time but then after you murdered somebody you went to their their bathroom and then you went and then you dragged some some poop out and you're like well he's the poop splatter killer and you're like nah nah come on i'm a thousand knives that's what i want to be known as poop splatter's the poop splatter killer. And you're like, nah, nah, come on. I'm a thousand knives.
Starting point is 01:26:05 That's what I want to be known as. Nah, poop splatter boy. Mr. Poop Splatter. Yeah, so I don't think it's up to us. But yes, I'd probably just let other people name me because it seems easier. Yeah. I mean, coming up with a name for this show was difficult.
Starting point is 01:26:17 You did that. True. So, you know, maybe you'd be better at it. I've got a tweet here. Okay, if you get superpowers, let me know. Will do. You're going to be the poop splatter killer, though. You're going to be Captain Poop Splatter. maybe you'd be better at it I've got a tweet here okay if you get superpowers let me know will do yeah what about if I just you're going to be the poop splatter killer though
Starting point is 01:26:27 you're going to be Captain Poop Splatter if I've got the powers of the flesh yep exactly yep Captain Poop Splatter Killer this is from Mr. McDuffie yo Mr. Sunday Movies and Wikipedia Brown
Starting point is 01:26:39 love the channel since Spider-Man Far From Home just wrapped a couple of days ago would you consider doing a commentary on the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy From Home just wrapped a couple of days ago, would you consider doing a commentary on the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy? Hashtag WeBeatPlanetPod. I'd love to. I've been meaning to do that for a long time.
Starting point is 01:26:50 I'd love to re-watch them with you because I know you love them. I don't. Yeah. Yes. I liked them at the time. I liked one and two at the time, I'm sure. But again, having re-watched some of the first one, I'm like, these feel like unfinished movies.
Starting point is 01:27:02 I still think two is really great. Okay, all right. Well, let's do that then. Even though you should have knocked out that octopus man in one punch he's just a regular man he's a regular man
Starting point is 01:27:09 I know he's just a regular unfit man I know I know yeah so yes I would love to
Starting point is 01:27:16 hopefully we do do that because we haven't done a commentary in a while either have we we haven't had we haven't had a lot of time yeah
Starting point is 01:27:22 a lot going on got another one okay I got one more this is from E.D. Krieger and he's written it in what I'm going to assume is offensive Australian accent. I'm ready. Because that's what it is. Okay, I'll do it in Australian accent.
Starting point is 01:27:34 Okay. Good day. I can't believe you've been hiding that third Hemsworth brother from us all this time, because there's a- Luke? No, in The Good Place. There's a fourth Hemsworth brother, I guess. Who's actually the brother
Starting point is 01:27:49 of the guy from the one where they're always like, we're a marketing team and we're a bunch of snakes, but maybe you need us. Don Cheadle, I'm the boss. Mad Men? No, Don Cheadle's in it. Oh. And the other one from the good place yes
Starting point is 01:28:06 kristen bell she's in it yeah whatever that movie whatever that tv series i've seen it all then they cancelled something about lies or something body of lies team lies mr lies lie all you want it's marketing baby it's marketing baby i remember that yeah okay yeah yeah he's his accent's quite good he's's Australian. Yeah, I know. Yeah, oh, you mean, I thought you meant the guy in The Good Place. Yeah. The accent was good. But you know he's Australian.
Starting point is 01:28:30 I know he's Australian. Okay, cool, yeah. But I think, well, how do you feel? Because what they've done, I feel like this season of The Good Place, where many of the characters are in Australia. Yeah, House of Lies. House of Lies, there we go. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 01:28:44 It's marketing baby um what if they did were they a law firm it doesn't matter it doesn't matter um I feel like this is like
Starting point is 01:28:56 the episode of The Simpsons where they went to Australia right where people some certain people are very mad about it yeah
Starting point is 01:29:03 but also I feel like some Australians are real and some of them clearly but also i feel like some australians are real and some of them clearly are also so some of the actors yeah australian actors yeah what it seems to be doing is the look i'm not mad that the australian accents in in the good place are terrible i think they're funny but it is setting up because ostensibly spoilers for the good place you haven't watched The Good Place, stop now. Watch every season of The Good Place that currently exists and come back. Yes.
Starting point is 01:29:30 So spoilers for that. What it feels like, because some of the accents are so bad, it feels like it's opening up weird theories as to whether or not they are in fact in Australia in the first place. Right. Because they're so terrible. It's like, are we supposed to be in Australia or not they are in fact in Australia in the first place. Right. Because they're so terrible. It's like, are we supposed to be in Australia or not? Or is this the bad place again?
Starting point is 01:29:51 You know what I mean? Okay. So it's interesting. That's not a bad theory. It's not my theory. I'm just something to say. It's a great theory of yours. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:29:58 I'm good at theories. When it turns out to be wrong, you're going to be real embarrassed. I'm going to look like such a dumbass. You'll be the poop splatter. Oh, no. The killer. I'm going to look like such a dumbass you'll be the poop splatter oh no killer you're going to look like a real drongo yeah
Starting point is 01:30:07 what do you reckon about his accent or about them being in a bad place about your theory yeah it's very possible anything can happen
Starting point is 01:30:14 in that show it's true yeah I don't know but how do you feel about the accents yeah again I don't care there's been way worse
Starting point is 01:30:22 and it's a funny show if it was a drama I'd be like this is fucking weird but because it's that show I'm like yeah this is fine this is funny stuff yeah i agree yeah i just think it's such a good show and it's so well cast um what's his name the dude uh who plays the um ted danson achidi he's so good and i just love his like existential kind of breakdowns that he yeah they're all so good. They're all really good. Anyway, I've got one more tweet here from Lee.
Starting point is 01:30:48 He says, want to know what I want? No? Well, I'll tell you. I want you guys to do an episode on wrestlers in movies. There are tons. Stone Cold, Batista, Hogan, and the rest. Then I want you to play the PS1 slash PS2 wrestling game for Caravan of Garbage. Oh, yeah, pretty good.
Starting point is 01:31:03 I've seen a few of those. I've seen Suburban Commando I was going to say with the great Hulk Hogan saw that at the movies same when it came out I loved it
Starting point is 01:31:11 yes but it's bad but I still loved it also there's a background moment in that movie where a dog a guy's throwing a dog into the ocean
Starting point is 01:31:19 huh so they're going it's like a shot of Hulk Hogan like I don't know he's riding down the street on a bike where he's running
Starting point is 01:31:26 I don't know but in the background you just see a dude just throw a dog into the ocean like in a loving way or no I've got to get rid of this dog
Starting point is 01:31:33 it just looks like he's throwing a dog how about this counter off we don't do an episode on wrestlers in movies we do an episode on people throwing dogs
Starting point is 01:31:39 in movies so we do that we do the point break we do Anchorman yep we do the trilogy we do the trilogy we do the point break uh we do uh anchor man yep yep we do the trilogy we do the trilogy we do the dog chucking trilogy i would i'd have to see a lot of these and i have to watch a lot of uh like stone cold movies where he comes back from iraq but something's not right in his
Starting point is 01:31:57 hometown yeah yeah yeah so john senna he's always been a marine have you seen how he grew his hair back and people are like whoa john sen Who, John Cena? Yeah. No. Got a tweet just before. Because I've never known him with anything other than a crew car. Yeah, he's got like Guy Gardner hair for real. Does he really? That makes a lot of sense actually. I'll just quickly show you this.
Starting point is 01:32:13 Okay, please. And then you can shut your mouth. Okay. Well, that makes him the perfect Guy Gardner for the upcoming Greenland movie, which probably isn't going to happen. Carlos Lopez sent this through. So this is... God, my internet's so shit.
Starting point is 01:32:25 I wish I could dog throw it into the ocean. Yeah, right. Look at this. I've clicked this Twitter picture to happen. Carlos Lopez sent this through. So this is... It's so shit. I wish I could dog throw it into the ocean. Look at this. I've clicked this Twitter picture to open. I can't see anything. I can't see anything. Jeez and crackers. Look at that fella. No, I was expecting more. It doesn't suit him though, does it? I was expecting worse. Yeah, but it looks so weird.
Starting point is 01:32:41 But everybody's interim hair looks awkward. What's he in between here? What's happening here? What's his endgame? He's Eddie Vedder, early 90 looks so weird. But everybody's interim hair looks awkward. You know what I mean? What's he in between here? What's happening here? What's his endgame? He's Eddie Vedder, early 90s Pearl Jam. That's the hair he's going for. That's the dream. Maybe he's going for Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible 2 hair.
