Welcome back, everybody, to another episode of The Weekly Planet where we talk movies and comics and TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday.
Starting point is 00:00:50 With me as always is my co-host Nick Mason. James, you put the sun in your voice today and I really appreciate it. It's just good to be inside. Yep, love being inside, yeah, absolutely. I actually do, I do like being inside. Well, I'm going for a walk later, so that counts, right? You've got to do that one thing where you're like, I went out, what? I went do. I do like being inside. Well, I'm going for a walk later, so that counts, right? You've got to do that one thing where you're like, I went out. What?
Starting point is 00:01:07 I went out. I saw the sun. Like, I made the most of it, all right? Fuck. That's right. Just back up. I moved my curtain slightly to one side and I peered out like that creepy guy. Like that creepy guy that I am.
Starting point is 00:01:19 That's me. You know the creepy guy on the block? And for a long time we didn't have a creepy guy on the block? What's happened to that creepy guy? You're the creepy guy on the block? And for a long time we didn't have a creepy guy on the block. What's happened to that creepy guy? You're the creepy guy. That's that age-old proverb of like if it's not somebody else or whatever, it's you or whatever. Yeah, look to your left, look to your right.
Starting point is 00:01:32 If the creepy guy on your block isn't in one of those houses, it's you, James. Mr. Sunday Movies. Do you want to know what we're talking about this week, Max? Yeah. There's so many news. We've got delays, Marvel delays. What delays?
Starting point is 00:01:44 The best kind of news. We've got a WandaVision trailer. Oh, my God. That's many news. We've got delays, Marvel delays. What delays? The best kind of news. We've got a WandaVision trailer. Oh, my God. That's big news. A couple of new series coming up. Supergirl is coming to an end. Big Snyder Cut updates. I thought for a second there I honestly thought you were going to say,
Starting point is 00:01:57 Big is back from Sex and the City. Oh, my God. He's got his own spinoff. Well, he was supposed to die in Sex and the City 3. He was going to have a heart attack or whatever. It was going to be, yeah, that would have been good. I hate that guy. Steady died in a gunfight.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Peacemaker, we get the spinoff. Black Adam casting. Milan Finance News. I've written Xbox because we've got to talk about Xbox, aren't we? We should get a lot of talking about the Xbox. And the boy spinoff. And then we're going to continue our conversation from last week about movies that aren't franchises that may be franchises.
Starting point is 00:02:27 You're not experiencing deja vu, folks. No. There was so much bountiful content in the last episode. We couldn't fit it all in. And we're mostly doing it so we... We're squeezing it down. Like when you push that upload button and it just started oozing out of your computer. It was bubbling out, yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:39 You had to keep smushing it back in and you're like, well, we'll just... We'll scrape some of that off. We'll scrape some of it out and we'll do it in the next episode, yeah. Exactly. And it's also to correct our other guys, nice guys mistake that we made, which everybody reminded us about. That's mostly what this episode is about, honestly. And to be honest, when we mentioned that,
Starting point is 00:02:58 I was thinking about the nice guys the whole time to the degree that when you mentioned, when you started talking about the other guys, I didn't ever notice. I'm like, when the meme started and the tweet started, I'm like, I could have sworn we were talking about the nice guys. But I think it was you talking about the other guys and me just going, yep, cool. I wrote down one of them, but I meant the other one. I don't even remember.
Starting point is 00:03:21 I didn't listen back to it. It's not important. But we're here to correct mistakes. We're here to apologize. That's right. We're going to give out prizes're here to correct mistakes. We're here to apologize. We're going to give out prizes to everybody who corrected us. We're going to go back to that episode. We're going to pull it out of the upload machine.
Starting point is 00:03:31 Yep. Goop notwithstanding. We're going to scoop that goop. Yep. We're going to re-edit the whole thing, put it back in. Exactly. As if it never happened. That's right.
Starting point is 00:03:39 And all your tweets will be worthless. People have sent in. Anyways. I think everyone's tweets are very valuable. I disagree. Have you seen Twitter? Oh, my God. You're right.
Starting point is 00:03:51 It's a hellscape out there. It's a hellscape. So Black Widow who's been delayed Mason. So it was supposed to come out in November. Now it's coming out in May. Eternals has been moved from next February to next November. That's a full year for both of them. Next November?
Starting point is 00:04:07 I know. That's a long way away. I agree. And then in between that, interestingly though, Shang-Chi has been moved from May 2021 to July of 2021. So that was a movie that was going to come out after these two movies and now it's in between. Huh.
Starting point is 00:04:21 So you might be like, what does that mean for the MCU? Is that what you're thinking? I was thinking exactly that. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter, Mason. They're establishing separate properties and then they tack on the post-credit scene at the end, which leads into the next movie. That's all you need to worry about. There's just some frantic post-credit sequence directors out there just running about, you know, in movie studios in backlots being like, oh my God, we've got to rewrite this post-credit
Starting point is 00:04:44 sequence. That's right. Do you remember the Ant-Man post-credits sequence. That's right. Do you remember the Ant-Man post-credits sequence? Was it that one? Where they had Bucky in a vice and it's like, I know a guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it didn't really relate to the next thing. No, it didn't really, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Is that the, I can't even remember what the end of the movie that one was. But do you know what I'm talking about? I know exactly what you're talking about, yeah, yeah, yeah. But the guy was Ant-Man. Yeah, but why would it be him? I always assumed he was going to get in the vice somehow. That's what I thought. He was going to fix the article or something.
Starting point is 00:05:11 No, no, no. They just needed him for. Yeah. Who were they talking about? I don't know. Ant-Man. Because it was a lead into Ant-Man. Jerry, the vice guy.
Starting point is 00:05:22 He was killed in that airport battle. His magnets have been on my fridge. 24-hour vice servicing. Here we go. All right. Perfect. $300? My God.
Starting point is 00:05:34 I mean, weekend rates, though. Yeah, that's probably true. And you've got to get him to Germany or whatever. Yeah, that's probably true. Yeah. If anything, it's a bargain. So are you surprised? Are you upset?
Starting point is 00:05:45 Are you like, this is a necessity? I'm surprised. I'm upset. This's a bargain. So are you surprised? Are you upset? Are you like this is a necessity? I'm surprised. I'm upset. This is a necessity. But I'm not happy about it. You encapsulated all my feelings about this. I didn't really think it was coming. Like it was becoming more and more evident from the results of like Tenet
Starting point is 00:05:58 and also that Milan didn't do as well as they would have hoped so it's not going to streaming. So this just seemed like it was going to happen. And people aren't, even though theatres are open in the US, even though like a limited capacity, people aren't going. Yeah. Because of the virus. Oh.
Starting point is 00:06:15 Yeah. It's not because of content. People love great content still. As soon as I think this is all over, just people are saying like, oh, there's not going to be a Marvel movie released this year. Isn't that going to hurt the Marvel brand or whatever? I think as the instant we get the all clear, the green light, people are just going to flock.
Starting point is 00:06:33 I agree. It'll be lines around the block at cinemas. You won't be able to get in. Exactly. Do you reckon? Yeah. Yeah, around the block. We should riot.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Yeah, that's what I'm about. Yeah. Yeah, you might be right. And look, I know there hasn't been one for a year and whatever, but nothing happened this year really. Like we didn't get any, we haven't gotten anything good. So why would we get this? We got Bad Boys 4.
Starting point is 00:06:55 I started to watch, it was 3, but I started to watch. Whatever it was, yeah. Did you watch it? I did watch it. After your stirring endorsement last week. It's fine. I mean, it's no worse than the other two. Yeah, wow, there you go.
Starting point is 00:07:05 That's something though, isn't it? I remember there being one good joke in it but I couldn't tell you what it is Was it when they were racing to the hospital but it was for a baby? No, that was absolutely not what it was And they killed a bunch of pedestrians and knocking over apple carts or whatever? No, that wasn't it, no But there was a lot of that in the like, we've got to stop these guys from doing evil
Starting point is 00:07:22 and then they would just swerve through traffic and the bad guy would shoot a rocket launcher at a car and it wouldn't hit them, but it would hit the car behind them. Yeah, right. And they're like, whoa! Yeah. Like that? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Yeah, cool. That's a good joke. Is that the joke? That was the good joke I was thinking of, yes. Great. No, I don't know what it was. This also comes from comicbookmovie.com, our former stomping ground mason. That's right.
Starting point is 00:07:43 Me and you. We used to run that show, didn't we? Stomping about. People would be at their windows like peeking out of the curtains. We'd be stomping. That's right. We'd be stomping. Bom, bom, bom, we'd say to each other.
Starting point is 00:07:55 We'd say, who would dare come out while we're stomping? So Falcon and the Winter Soldier has been moved to 2021. That's not a surprise because I don't think it's finished. I think they're still filming it right now. I saw some just Jared photos. Probably just Jared. Yeah, almost certainly just Jared. What's the deal with that guy? Well, he's not just Jared to me.
Starting point is 00:08:15 He's Jared and he does set photos. He does set photos, yeah. Is that one of those things where they're like, they buy up a whole lot of set photos and then if you use them in like your website, they charge you a lot of money or something? I don't know. I don't know how any of this works.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Because I know there are sites that do that. They like purchase photos. And then I know Comic Book Movie did have some problems with that where people posted something and they're like, well, now you owe us like $10,000 for licensing or whatever like that. I don't know the specifics of it. Hassle somebody else at that site for the details. But, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:42 How about when like Marvel release a movie trailer and then like Joe Blow Movies releases exactly the same trailer? How do they get away with that? I think that's just a marketing thing. I think they probably – because I get sent trailers. So you could just put them up. If you're struggling for a video. I could, but then they copyright them anyway.
Starting point is 00:09:02 It doesn't matter. But I'm sure there's some other. You could add fart noises. I could add fart noises, but they've got connections. And if you build up enough followers, they'll just send it to you or whatever. You've got connections. Yeah. From your esophagus to like your bowels.
Starting point is 00:09:16 That's so true. And you can use that. Nothing in between. Just straight out. But because I get a lot of the Australian premiere stuff, they're like, did you see this trailer? No Time to Die has a new trailer. I'm like, yeah, I saw it three days ago when they put it out, but thanks, appreciate it. This one just has fart noises at it.
Starting point is 00:09:30 I don't understand. So there you go. Black Widow has been, I'm sorry. Here's the trailer for the fabulous Mr. Dundee or whatever it is. Yeah, that's on Stan now? It's on Stan now. It looks bad, Mason. I know the guy who wrote it.
Starting point is 00:09:42 And? I've watched it. I'm not going to watch it. I don't know. That's where you're at. I don't know. I agree with you. I saw a review of it that was just, would have crushed him.
Starting point is 00:09:53 Yeah. He produced it or something. I don't know. It was one of those things. Well, you know, even if you write something, it doesn't mean you get like your final vision to this. But I think it might be telling that, you know, in times past uh paul
Starting point is 00:10:05 hogan would would like essentially like he would take the writing credit on all his projects yeah that's right it's funny he hasn't so oh so he knows what he's doing yeah that's what you're saying that's great anyway i'm never going to watch that maybe i'll watch it maybe you watch it for your best friend you know we should watch i don't want to watch it no not that but that also we should watch that yeah but also uh i think maybe for for movie cultures we should watch. I don't want to watch it. No, not that. But that also. We should watch that. Yeah. But also I think maybe for movie commentaries we should watch Cats because it's available on streaming now.
Starting point is 00:10:31 I thought about that. Yes. But the only problem with this is that we need the music from it. So we normally watch with subtitles. Oh, and there's songs, of course. So we need to headphones it. Yeah, we would need to headphones it. Which is not impossible.
Starting point is 00:10:44 I mean, we could headphones it. Yeah. But it need to headphones it. Which is not impossible. I mean, we could headphones it. But it just might make it more difficult to chat over songs. That's true. But I guess also so much, I think it's a lot of talk singing, if I had to guess. So it's like, so I'd imagine that the subtitles would tell us what is happening in the plot. They'd be like, we're a bunch of cats and one of us wants to die
Starting point is 00:11:03 or something, you know how it goes. Well, I've never seen it. I've also never seen it. And I don't know anything about cats. So, yeah, I'll do it. I'll do that. Let's do it, dude. We just recorded our next commentary, which is not this week
Starting point is 00:11:13 but next week for BigSandwich.co. There is something this week, isn't there, Mason, about bonus podcast we got. We got this covered, covered, covered, covered. Yeah. That we did Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 1990. So that'll be out next week. That's true.
Starting point is 00:11:23 It was a good fun time. Anyways, Mason, WandaVision has a trailer. And what a trailer. I loved it, Mason. So full of Easter eggs. I didn't break it down because part of me was like I'm tired and part of me was like I kind of just want to go into this like. No, you want to drill down into it so there are zero surprises.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Yeah, sure. For the entire series. Yeah, but I feel like this is as the potential to be very surprising and revelations in the future and maybe mutants and maybe parallel dimensions and maybe it's all in the mind. Doctor Strange ties into Doctor Strange too, yeah. But for me it's I kind of like, yeah, I'm just going to sit back. We get some more hints as to what is happening
Starting point is 00:11:59 and why it seems that it seems to be switching eras. Yeah. Like that seems to be partly due to the Scarlet Witch and partly maybe it's out of her control it seems. Yeah, that's right. Do you think they're real people or do you think it's like a fake people situation? I think it's fake people. But I think Scarlet Witch is real.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Yeah, she's real people. And I think Jessica Hahn's character is also real. Yeah, I agree. Yeah. Well, I was also going to say that what's something and the visions in it, you actually see the vision in it like in proper vision form and he's alive
Starting point is 00:12:27 and he's got the soul stone yeah which means like did they or the mind stone whatever he's got I don't fucking know we don't need to know that anymore I needed to know that last year
Starting point is 00:12:36 now I don't need to know it so I've just pushed it out of my head so did they get it from another dimension is it not real is it just like oh good point maybe it's maybe
Starting point is 00:12:44 maybe maybe it's like placebo. Is it not real? Is it just like. Oh, good point. Maybe it's like placebo. Yeah. Maybe it's diamante. The band, placebo. Yeah, maybe it's the band placebo. Every me, every you, et cetera. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:12:54 That's great. Good stuff. Great. Go to it. I don't know because it seems like the pulling that out of his head in Infinity War killed him, obviously. Yes. But also, you know, it drained all the colour out of him.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Yeah. So, and the TV series starts in black and white, presumably. Yeah, that's right, yeah. I wonder if she's projecting into him a personality. This is a memory restoration thing, maybe? I mean, it could be at the end it's revealed that he was there, like physically the whole time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:24 But his brain was not there and he's like the soulless robot. Right, yeah, yeah. Of like 90s Marvel comics where he doesn't have a personality anymore. What do you reckon about that? That's fine with me. Okay, good. I'd be great with that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:36 They should have kept that soul stone that they've returned or whatever stone he has. Remember Captain America was returning them? Yep. I thought about this recently that when, yeah, he never even really got a, well,
Starting point is 00:13:47 they had to return him for time splitting. Yeah. But there wasn't even a deleted, there wasn't even a, like a side scene where they just look at his corpse and go, nah, well, that was also years later.
Starting point is 00:13:56 So presumably they'd like crush it into a cube or something. It's true. Yeah. So, you know, I don't, I don't know. Can you crush it?
Starting point is 00:14:04 Cause he's like a vibranium man. Oh, good question. They've probably got a special press. They call that Vice Guy. Well, Jerry the Vice Guy, yeah. That's right. It's around a box. He'll come to Wakanda.
Starting point is 00:14:14 That's right. Good on him. Yeah, but I think of all the TV shows, this is the one I'm probably most looking forward to. Yeah. Because, like, I am looking forward to Falcon and Winter Soldier and that, but it's like I get more shield throwing and who's Captain America.
Starting point is 00:14:27 But this is like Legion-esque and it seems like a different kind of perspective. And I like how they did, like, the I Dream of Genie Bewitched era and they've got, like, the shonky kind of special effects, like magically pouring a bottle of wine that looks like a sort of string or whatever. But is it just a bottle of wine, James? Probably.
Starting point is 00:14:45 It could be a hologram or whatever. Well, no, people have suggested that it's the label, it's Maison de something something and it roughly translates to House of M, which is, of course, the storyline in which the Scarlet Witch alters reality to make the mutants like the premier species on Earth and humans are subservient to them. And also changes our accent from vaguely Eastern European to American. Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Okay, that's interesting. So some people are saying that that is a clue to this series will introduce mutants. I wonder whether that's a nod or like it could be. That's how they get us, isn't it? That's how they get us every time. That's exactly how I get it. Well, let me get to work on my trailer breakdown.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Just kidding. There's a million. There's plenty available. Late November maybe, I think, this will be out. So that's coming up, isn't it? I'm really excited. And I think it's like definitively finished. So they don't need to add any extra stuff.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Did you like the Vision Shonky costume? Like his Halloween costume? Yeah, that's a nice throwback to his weird 1970s big collar costume or whatever. Good stuff all around. Anything else in there? What do you reckon? Yeah, I do reckon. There's a bit where he like, so even though he's living in like the 50s
Starting point is 00:15:59 or 60s, he's still like he knows he's the Vision because he's putting on the disguise. Like you see him like go out the door and he's like, oh he forgot yeah so he doesn't not know who he is he's just living in a weird reality does that make sense but again i wonder he's not like i'm a man not what am i a robot no that's true but again i'm wondering if the scarlet witch has put her memories of him onto this empty shell yeah i I suspect might be the case. Is it cool, do you think? Yeah, I think it's cool. Cool.
Starting point is 00:16:27 How do you think? Because Scarlet Witch seems to have, like, reality-altering powers in this as well. Yeah. Like it seems she's got some sort of evolution to her powers. Yeah. Because the Scarlet Witch has had so many weird power changes throughout the comic books.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Yes. Like she started as, like, she could just hex things. So, like, a vice would close and you had to get Jerry, the vice guy, to open it up or whatever. That makes sense. Or like a car engine to spot her out or whatever. And then she can control it and then she learns actual magic and then she's got reality warping powers, et cetera.
Starting point is 00:16:59 And so forth. I'm wondering if – it's Catherine Hahn, isn't it? Yeah, Catherine Hahn, yeah. I think Catherine Hahn might be the witch who teaches her. Because she's a witch in the – you see her in – Yeah, she's got a witch costume on. She's wearing like a Halloween witch costume, so I think she might be an actual witch.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Yeah, right. They introduce real witches. Yeah, real witches. I mean, they've introduced Doctor Strange. He's a real witch. He's a real witch. He's a real witch. He's a real bitch.
Starting point is 00:17:19 Bitch, that guy. But that might be – so in the comic books – so basically for a really long time, Scarlet Witch's ability was she could alter probability to make things that were unlikely to happen happen. But then people were like, well, how can she fly then? Because it's unlikely? It's so unlikely. Like even if you made, how can you make the probability
Starting point is 00:17:37 of somebody able to fly 100%? You can't. It doesn't work. So eventually they're like, oh, let's say she met a witch and she learned how to do actual magic. So she met Agatha Harkness who's like – Oh, so you think that might be her. Which isn't the name I think this character has, but it's close enough.
Starting point is 00:17:52 Who knows? So she is a woman who survived the Salem witch trials because she was an actual witch. And she teaches the Scarlet Witch how to do actual magic. Okay, got you, got you. So she's got some combination of actual magic and like mutant reality warping powers. Yeah, because she's daughter of Magn's got some combination of actual magic and like mutant reality warping powers yeah because she's daughter of magneto yeah yeah okay then in the movies and
Starting point is 00:18:12 stuff she's mostly just like crushing things with red mist but in this she can like she seems to be able to like change the decor of her house yeah by waving her hands about which stuff yeah which stuff i like that uh at this if you look at when she dies and when Vision dies and when she comes back and like crushes Thanos. Yes. There's like minutes in between that. Do you know what I mean? Like she died and then she's like, I'm back. I'm going to crush this guy.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Oh, yeah, right. That's true. Yeah. Anyway, looking forward to this very much. Looking forward to it too. I wonder whether it drops all at once or all split up. What do you think? I reckon all split up.
Starting point is 00:18:43 I reckon all split up too, Mason. And I think it's going to end sad. Yeah, probably. Or they'll have a kid. And that'll end sad. I think they'll end with a kid and they'll be like, we're happy now. This child has fulfilled, has made us happy, has fixed our
Starting point is 00:18:57 relationship. I wonder how many movies they have left on their contracts. It's a great question. I think this is different. Yeah, I know, but that also depends. That depends largely on how this series ends, I think, depends on how many movies they have left in their contract. Oh, okay, yep, yep. Like if they don't have any movies left, I'm sure they do,
Starting point is 00:19:15 but let's say hypothetically they didn't have any movies left on their contracts, I think they would end it on, we're happy and we've got a kid in this reality. Is it real? It doesn't matter because we're happy with kids or whatever. But that's sad also. Right, but I think if they have like four movies left each, then I think it'll end sad.
Starting point is 00:19:30 I think they'll have a kid and then it'll be like, your kid's actually a demon and the Vision's a monster. Yeah, so it'll spiral into that the Vision's family's killing everybody in the neighbourhood kind of situation. Okay. What do you think about this though? I'm ready. Speaking of televisions.
Starting point is 00:19:45 Oh, here we go. Variety reporting that Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury in his own television series. My goodness. The exact plot details of the show are being kept under wraps with multiple sources say Jackson is attached to Star with Kyle Bradsheet, who'd have worked on Mr Robot, attached to write and executive produce.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Now, my understanding is that Nick Fury is on a spaceship heading somewhere. That's right. Maybe he's in a hologram room. It's heading nowhere. Yeah, yeah. But do you think they're going to pick up in space or it'll be like Nick Fury on Earth and he's like, there's too much espionage and I'm here to put a stop to it.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Only the espionage I like is going to be happening on my watch. That's right. I think that one, yeah. Yeah. Nick Fury in space. I mean, it might be, but that's the thing because it's not a, you know, a CBS, NBC, whatever series that doesn't have to be Monster of the Week. No.
Starting point is 00:20:33 It could just be like. It could be eight episodes and one's 40 minutes long and one's 110 minutes long. Yeah, it could be from the case files of Nick Fury where it's just, you know, here's one set in the 90s and here's one set today. Exactly. So. De-age him to any degree.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Yeah, yeah. Eyepatch or not, it's up to you. That's right. Yeah. So I would like to do space stuff, but he's not really a space stuff guy in the movies at least. Yeah. Because if he goes to another planet, it's just like all aliens and him.
Starting point is 00:21:03 Is that what they do? What if it's just Samuel L. Jackson reacts to weird aliens? Maybe he's just on the ship and he's like, I remember, and he thinks back and he goes, yeah, that was in 2002. That was interesting. Yeah. Yeah. Just a series of memories.
Starting point is 00:21:18 Anyway, there's already been a Nick Fury TV series with David Hasselhoff in the 90s. It was a pilot episode that was supposed to go to series. We should definitely watch that. Well, I was going to watch it for the Black Widow movie, but I think I guess we'll save it for this when it comes out in three years or whatever's going on at the moment. Cool.
Starting point is 00:21:36 What era should they put it in? I think they'd do it now. Then it's like minimal de-aging. See, that's what I was just thinking. He'll probably come back from space in something. By the time they make it, he'll be back. And there'll already be another Captain Marvel who will show up in Doctor Strange 2 and be like,
Starting point is 00:21:51 I told you things were mysterious. You have always been saying that. Yeah, that's true. You've always been consistent. That's what we respect about you. Yeah. So what do you think, though? I want to see weird 60s-esque
Starting point is 00:22:07 like austin powers stuff not necessarily set in the 60s but like that kind of like where he's fighting hydra and they've all it's always weird plans to detonate a bomb in the middle of new york city or whatever and he's got cool like he can turn invisible and he's got like you know all kinds of cool wacky 60s gadgets got guns in his car and jacket and he's got like, you know, all kinds of cool wacky 60s gadgets. He's got guns in his car and jacket and stuff. He's got an umbrella that turns into a helicopter. Cool, that would be cool, yeah. Even a flying car, why not? Yeah, like James Bond, Nick Fury.
Starting point is 00:22:32 Yeah. Yeah, why not? Yeah, that'd be cool. And the more gadgets you give him, the less physicality he needs to exhibit. So I think he'd be on board with that. Totally. He's like, well, you could either, we could either have you vault that wall, Samuel L. Jackson, or we could give you a gadget that lets you walk through walls and you can just walk
Starting point is 00:22:48 yeah and then we'll do the rest in post yeah that's right i'm gonna give you a son he's also called nick fury and he's gonna do all the fight scenes oh why not even think about that you could couldn't yeah you could be like the adventures of nick fury and little nick fury and you get the kid who played his son in shaftft or whatever. Yes. Yeah. And he's like – That's A-Train, by the way. Yeah, it's A-Train. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:08 And Nick Fury's like, you're too woke, little Nick Fury. And he's like, well, that's the way of the world, Dad. Yeah. And they just argue about what's woke and what's not. Yeah. So for people, I think maybe we've definitely talked about this in the podcast before, but Nick Fury in the comic books initially is a white man.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Yes. And then in the movies, it's Samuel L. Jackson, who's not a white man. Yes. And then in the movies it's Samuel L. Jackson who's not a white man. Because he was based on the Ultimate Comics. Yeah. Where he looked exactly like. And so they had to sort of conceive of a way to make Nick Fury black in the comic books. And it was brilliant.
Starting point is 00:23:37 You wouldn't even notice. Well, I just said that white Nick Fury had a kid. Yep. Who's mixed race. Yep. And then original Nick Fury was shoved off to the sidelines and now- He went to live on the moon. Yes, he did.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Yes, I'm trying to condense this, James. I'm just helping. But he went to live on the moon. Not his choice. He was chained to the moon. He was chained to the moon. He was chained to the moon because he killed the Watcher. He pulled the Watcher's eyes out.
Starting point is 00:23:57 It's not important. Anyway, but basically seamlessly they were like, well, Nick Fury's kid also joined S.H.I.E.L.D. not knowing that he was Nick Fury's son. Even though his name was nick fury no i don't know i don't think maybe it was probably nick dangerous or something like that but then then he rose up the ranks and then he realized he was nick fury's son and they're like why don't you call yourself nick fury and you've lost an eye and now you're the head of shield and seamlessly yeah now nick fury in the comic books is black also that's right so you could just say that that Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury has a son
Starting point is 00:24:26 who's also Nick Fury and it's too woke. He's too woke and it's his son from Shaft. And then you could do that also. And then you're right, he could do all the stunts. That would be fun. That's it. There you go. And Nick Fury Jr. is like, I've got to put this on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:24:43 And Nick Fury is like, I've got this page still. Also, I've received several emails from young people regarding because I asked. Yeah, what's cool? Nothing's newer than TikTok, it turns out. TikTok's just been like TikTok is sort of, it's like Facebook. It's kind of like consumed the world. What about Fall Guys?
Starting point is 00:24:59 Fall Guys is newer than TikTok, isn't it? But is it as instrumental in democracy? No, because you can't do as many dances on Fall Guys. You can do little emotes. Among Us is newer than Fall Guys. Yes, that's true. It's not new, it's just more popular. It's older but now it's popular and they've cancelled.
Starting point is 00:25:14 I just read that they cancelled part two because they're going to revamp part one or whatever. Have you played any Fall Guys? I haven't played Fall Guys or Among Us. Among Us is basically that social game werewolf, except there's more. What's werewolf? Werewolf's that it's the game you play.
Starting point is 00:25:30 You get a group of people together and then, like let's say there's ten people. You go eight people are villagers and two people are werewolves, but nobody knows who's who. And then you say, okay, everybody close your eyes. Now the werewolves wake up and then the werewolves pick people to kill and then you close your eyes and then people are dead and then you gowolves pick people to kill, and then you close your eyes, and then people are dead, and then you go, who's the werewolf?
Starting point is 00:25:48 And then you've got to pick. You've got to argue amongst yourselves over who you think the werewolf is. Like Secret Hitler, the guy. Exactly, yeah. It's probably the same thing with a different name. And then it's basically like as the rounds go, you're like, I suspect you because when this happened, you said this, but then blah, blah, blah, and it ruins friendships.
Starting point is 00:26:03 But it's basically the same thing, except it's on a spaceship. Do you actually kill people? Do you actually like, do you have to run around and kill them? No, you just point. You? Yeah, you. Gotcha. Okay, cool.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Werewolf. Got it. You just told me about this before the show, and I just watched it. It's the Hellstrom trailer. That's right. And as I said to you as I was watching it, this could be anything. It really could, couldn't it? And that's the thing. Like, people. It's Marvel, by Wilbur. That's right. And as I said to you as I was watching it, this could be anything. It really could, couldn't it? And that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:26:27 Like people. It's Marvel, by the way. I should point that out. Damon Hellstrom, he's the son of Satan. That's who they're looking for. Satan's back. Is he like Satan, Satan or is he like a Satan? Because, you know, there's multiple Satans and demons.
Starting point is 00:26:39 He's not the son of Mephisto who is like a Marvel Satan. I think he's the son of Satan. Satan, Satan. Act Marvel Satan. I think he's the son of Satan. Satan. Actual Satan. But I'm sure that's been changed back and forth as the suitability of Satan for comic book reading children has changed over the years. So they were like, well, kids, parents are a little bit upset that this guy's the son of Satan.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Understandably. So now he's the son of Jerry the Vice Guy. Wow. Right? What I'm saying is that you're right it could be absolutely anything because it's like
Starting point is 00:27:09 Dark Forces yeah like this is a supernatural spin off yeah right what is this there's a family and they're gonna
Starting point is 00:27:14 get together and the family all the mothers demon powers and look out and we've all got dark secrets and this film
Starting point is 00:27:21 all families have secrets but some families have darker secrets than other families now you thought one thing about the world, guess what? It's a whole different ballgame. What they should have done, speaking of Nick. What are his powers?
Starting point is 00:27:32 What's anybody's powers? You've got fire powers, does he? It's like Lucifer and it's like a lot of these, you know, you're the son of the devil kind of things, where it's just vague, like American Gothic, where it's just vague whatever you need it to be at the time. Like it's kind of can he walk through walls? Can he turn invisible?
Starting point is 00:27:49 I don't know, maybe. Sounds good. Can he appear whenever he needs to? Does he have clairvoyance or whatever? Maybe, I don't know. Has he got a bit of John Constantine about him? Yeah, maybe. Yeah, he can probably do magic.
Starting point is 00:28:00 He can do magic, yeah. Cool. But what they should have done is put Nick Fury at the end. Oh, yeah. I mean I think this Hulu stuff is like very removed. Oh, I know it is. It's like this and The Runaways and whatever else. Yeah, but I mean what I'm saying is that only the most hardcore
Starting point is 00:28:13 of the hardcore are probably going to notice this or watch it. I didn't even know the trailer. You didn't notice it. I had no idea. And this is my job. But you put Nick Fury at the end of that and he's like, well, I'm here to investigate this actually. And then in the actual episode he goes,
Starting point is 00:28:25 actually I'm not interested anymore and he just leaves. You guys have got this. People will be like, oh, my God, Nick Fury and Hellstrom. Yeah, you're right. Can you believe it? You put literally any character, even if you put like an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. character in there, like, oh, my God, it's Quinn. Is that an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
Starting point is 00:28:40 Maybe. Maybe. I'm not against it. I've just forgotten all the names. Yeah, yeah. Jake Chisel. It's not his real name. That was forgotten all the names. Yeah, yeah. Jake Chisel. It's not his real name. That was the one that came to my head.
Starting point is 00:28:47 He's dead maybe. Yeah, I think he's probably dead, yeah. And it's finished. Anyway, Supergirl is stopping. The last season will be its sixth season. So, yeah, there's not really a reason given, but it's just stopping. I mean, they all go about that long, don't they? Yeah, they all go about it.
Starting point is 00:29:00 Arrow was about that, wasn't it? Yeah, it sure was. Yeah, so there you go. Yeah. I can't say I ever really watched it. There is a spinoff happening with the Lawrence and Clark series, but there you go. I imagine she will make appearances on that series.
Starting point is 00:29:13 No doubt. As Superman made lots of appearances on her show. Yeah, and various other spinoffs and things. Yeah, I mean, I... I like her as Supergirl, though. I think she's good. Yeah, I'm not a religious watcher of that show, but I watch the crossover stuff and I'll watch a novelty episode.
Starting point is 00:29:27 Like if there's a musical episode, I'll definitely watch that. So more musical episodes is what I'm saying. I'll make it happen. Thank you. Wait, it's finishing. The show's finishing. Yeah, but can season six be all musical episodes? Yeah, all musicals.
Starting point is 00:29:37 No worries. I'll make it cool. Oh, and there's the first image of the new Batwoman also was out. Oh, yeah. It's a woman in a Batsuit. What do you want? I have nothing to say. I just throw it in was out. Oh, yeah. It's a woman in a Batsuit. What do you want? I don't, I have no, nothing to say. I just went, yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Just neck up. It's like the other moments of the red wig and yep, okay, I got it. Yeah, cool. Okay, Kane left and whatever. Yep. Okay, I got it, got it. I'm all over it. Yep.
Starting point is 00:29:55 The Hollywood Reporter is saying that in October, Zack Snyder will shoot more Justice League and is expected to bring back Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot for new scenes. Also, though, Henry Cavill has come out since speaking to Collider and said, no, he's not shooting additional photography. So I guess he might not be doing that. The other thing is also set to appear on the call sheet is Ray Fisher as Cyborg. So there's still, you've probably been seeing it on all sorts of Instagrams and that there's a lot of back and forth
Starting point is 00:30:27 between the studio and him concerning the investigation. He's ruffled some feathers. Ruffled some feathers. And the release of, like he's talked about how they've timed the release of things to kind of quash some of the things that he said. So he's still in negotiation and also he might be in the upcoming Flash movie in a three-scene appearance, but apparently he counted with a figure doubling his salary for that, which Warner's turned down.
Starting point is 00:30:50 And then Jason Momoa came out and backed up what he said, so it's like, but we still don't really know what's kind of happening or going on with that. What is this, the DCEU or the bloody high school drama? Am I right? So there you go. So that's all that's happening. The article was mostly about Ray Fisher.
Starting point is 00:31:08 It was like Zach's not reshooting and then it was all the Ray Fisher situation. And the other thing that was mentioned. I thought there wasn't going to be any reshoots. Well, that's what they said. And so this is going to cost $70 million in total. I remember some weeks ago we talked about this and there was one producer or something like that who was, they put the $30 million idea
Starting point is 00:31:27 to him, like, are you going to spend $30 million on this? And he's like, I wish it would only cost $30 million, but apparently that's yeah, it's $70 million more dollars. I guess what, I know like this is becoming, like it was never properly finished, I know some people get upset when we say that, but it wasn't
Starting point is 00:31:43 finished. Like, Zack Snyder needed to do his own reshoots and they were going to do that anyway with voiceover and things like that. That's what they were initially going to do. But if you stretch this out now to four hours, you're going to need to fill some gaps in presumably. If it was just like a two and a half hour movie, maybe you'd have enough
Starting point is 00:31:59 footage to bring that together. But probably not if it's four. So this is like the most expensive ongoing movie of all time, maybe. That just keeps going forever and ever. Pretty cool. Yeah, so. Can you wait? I cannot wait for the end result though.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Yes. I mean, to be honest, I'm sick of hearing about it. Like I want it to be out so we can just kind of be like done with it. Our expectations keep fluctuating. Like some weeks I'm like, oh my God, I'm so excited to see this. And some weeks I'm like, oh my God, just get it out here. Yeah. Or watch it and then we'll be done with it.
Starting point is 00:32:28 That's not incorrect. But we won't be done with it. No, because it will then be like, well, what's the next movie he's going to do? But will we be done with it? Because if he produces this and it's done and he goes, if there's an interview where he's like, this is my definitive version, nobody interfered with it, this is what I completely intended for this to be my final product and then it's fine.
Starting point is 00:32:48 People will have to stop saying let's bring out a new, better version. I don't think it's always going to be going on forever. Even if he nails it, then people will want more. If he doesn't, they'll be like it's a studio interference and you didn't give him a fair shot and whatever. It'll be going back and forth. Like, for example, this is a comment I just got on Batman v Superman
Starting point is 00:33:10 The Caravan of Garbage. This movie is aging like fine wine. Mark my words. In five years time, you'll actually realize how good it was. Alright, mark your calendars, folks. It's the 27th of September, 2020. Five years. 27th September, 2025. Somebody let us know.
Starting point is 00:33:25 Also, we were pretty positive in that video, I would say. You know, but whatever. But we'll be even more positive because of the fine wine thing. Just things can be like in between horrible and really great. No, they can't. They cannot. We've built quote unquote careers on it, James. I guess we have.
Starting point is 00:33:44 You're right. But I don't know. Look, I do want to see it, absolutely, but I also want it to be over. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Peacemaker, though, is getting an eight-part HBO series, which is a spin-off of the Suicide Squad movie that James Gunn is doing. He will write and direct multiple episodes.
Starting point is 00:34:02 The timeline in this is unclear, so he could still die in the upcoming movie. That's true, yeah. And other members are hinted to appear in the series. You know what the most interesting part about this is? I mean, that, obviously. That is. Also, it was teased with a little Instagram image,
Starting point is 00:34:17 just like this little face of Peacemaker. Yeah. And some people were very quick to point out that that image is a John Byrne picture of Captain America from like decades ago that they've just put a Peacemaker helmet on. What? Like it's not like it looks kind of similar. It's exactly that.
Starting point is 00:34:38 It's Captain America's chin. John Byrne drew it for like a letters page or something like that and they've just put Peacemaker's helmet on top of it. It's crazy. Right? Why? I don't know. Picture of John Cena.
Starting point is 00:34:51 There's plenty of them. Just sketch the outline of his chin. Yeah, right. That's fine. I could do that. I'll do it. I won't do it because it's done but I could have done it. I mean you could save the day here.
Starting point is 00:35:01 I'm going to swoop in at the last minute. Are you excited for this though? Yeah. Yeah. I'm John Cena and things. at the last minute. Are you excited for this though? Yeah. Yeah. I'm John Cena and things. Yeah. Apparently he's very funny.
Starting point is 00:35:10 People are like, oh my God, we were surprised by his comedic chops. You know? Why are they surprised? Because he's funny in everything. He's funny in most things that he's in. He's funny in things. If you see him in an interview, he's funny. Yeah. Like he's more funny than he needs to be in a press junket interview.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Yes. Or in real life. Right? But it's like, I honestly don't even know what the last thing I watched with him in it was. The Blockers maybe? Maybe. I think it was probably a career timeline thing or whatever.
Starting point is 00:35:33 It's like one of those things where you've been doing this all day. You don't have to be funny for any... Most people just answer the questions and move on. He was just continuously like, I'm going to get a laugh here. He's going for it. He's going for it. Good on him.
Starting point is 00:35:46 Why are you surprised that he's funny? I'm not surprised, Mason. You seem a little bit surprised that he's funny. I'm shocked and dismayed. But no, this all looks very good. So this also goes to show that there is that line, it's so blurred between TV and movies now, isn't it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:00 You're getting directors who are making high profile big blockbuster action flicks. You're getting Nick Fury in his own series and then showing up at the end of Hellstrom trailer to be like, what the hellstrom's going on here? I don't even, oh, well, off I go. Nothing seems to be happening. That's right.
Starting point is 00:36:14 But you got us. You guys, yeah, absolutely. So, no, this is cool. And it'll probably be out in two years or whatever, if that things work. The Hollywood Reporter, Mason, they're all like, what do you think of Black Adam, the movie? And I was like, is it coming out? You've been talking about it
Starting point is 00:36:28 for 10 years. Did they ask you personally? Yeah, they asked me. They rang me at my home address on my home telephone. Oh my god. And they said that the Invisible Man's Aldous Hodge, who you also might know from Straight Outta Compton, he was in that episode of Black Mirror about the army, but it was like, the army's in your mind or something. That's right, you think you're
Starting point is 00:36:43 killing bugs, but you're actually killing your own family.'s right uh he's going to be playing carter hall aka hawk man so there you go that's fun good choice yeah yeah he's great in the invisible man remember when the invisible man beat him up yeah he did good like pretending to be beat up acting that's hard there's no one there man that's right and now he's gonna have to pretend to have big hawk wings it It's not a real thing you can do. Do you reckon they'll put fake wings on him? Yeah, yeah, yeah. That'd be easier to pretend. Yeah, yeah. So that movie's
Starting point is 00:37:12 I like that they're building this team that's, I guess it's Justice League adjacent, like Adam Smasher and Hawkman. They're more a Justice Society. Yes. There you go. Which again, they have kind of, they've road tested with Stargirl, who has, you know, a a Justice Society's name. Yes, there you go. That's a better. Which, again, they have kind of road tested with Stargirl, who has a supporting cast that's mostly Justice Society members.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Yes, that's right. Have you seen that show yet? No, I haven't seen it. Do people like it? I don't know. Probably. I think people think it's fun. What's it on here?
Starting point is 00:37:37 Binge. No, fuck it. Right? That's the Rupert Murdoch run. Yeah, correct. It's a streaming service for everybody, isn't it? Yeah. Cool.
Starting point is 00:37:46 I like that a lot. So now last week I've got some updates to report concerning Milan. Now originally it was said by Yahoo Finance that it made $261 million in 12 days. Not bad. Turns out that that was wrong and it actually made between $62 million and $93 million. That's considerably worse. Yeah, I just don't understand. Like if you work at Yahoo Finance, if you're that one guy, that's a pretty big error.
Starting point is 00:38:09 I mean a lot of finance is just guessing. It certainly is. It's projections and like stabs in the dark. Pulling numbers out of your ass. But I'm just saying if you can't trust Yahoo Finance, Mason, where am I supposed to go to for my financial news? Ask Jeeves Finance. AltaVista Finance. That's right. What's another one? GeoCities Finance Ask Jeeves Finance. AltaVista Finance.
Starting point is 00:38:26 That's right. What's another one? GeoCities Finance. Fog Dog Finance. I was hoping to time that so you'd blurt out all your kombucha. You really did, Mason. You really got me. So that's bad, obviously, if that's true,
Starting point is 00:38:42 because that's a very expensive movie and the theatrical run wasn't great. It also doesn't surprise me that that's not a model that they want to roll out for other big movies probably. That being said, if it was Black Widow, it probably would have done better. Yeah, a property that isn't just a remake of a beloved thing, you can also get for free on that service anyway. Yeah, that was a mistake where they went, you can pay for it now, $40, or you can wait.
Starting point is 00:39:04 Oh, I just meant also you can watch the original Milan for free. Oh, yeah, it's better. Like, hot tip, if they're going to release Black Widow on streaming, maybe if there's a Black Widow cartoon from the 90s already on there, maybe delete it for a few weeks. That's right, yeah, and just delete all the old MCU movies. Yes. Or at least Her Saints.
Starting point is 00:39:20 Perfect, right? So it's just Happy Hogan in a corridor in Iron Man 2 just watching people fall down. It's like, what is happening? You remember movies, don't you? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, good stuff. And you could get like a reaction shot of him on The Chef show,
Starting point is 00:39:32 like a guy doing some fancy sushi work and be like, what is happening? And just put that in. It's fine. It's seamless. So Xbox had its launch this week in terms of like what's coming up. What's it called though? Without looking, James, what's it called?
Starting point is 00:39:47 I don't know. S? Series S? Is it though? I don't know. Or Series X? Is it? Or the Xbox One Series X?
Starting point is 00:39:56 Is it? I don't know. Wasn't the last one the Xbox One? And what's the new PlayStation called? Five. Correct. And it's the digital and disc, right? Yeah, there's two versions, yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:04 So what's going on? Well, apparently, right? Yeah, there's two versions. Yeah. So, yeah, what's going on? Well, apparently, and this brings me a lot of joy. Also, they bought Bethesda, which is huge. Oh, we should talk about that. Well done. Yeah. Like, $7.5 billion. Well, they bought ZeniMax, which owns Bethesda. So they own everything. So they
Starting point is 00:40:20 own Obsidian. And Doom. And like the Elder Scrolls. Fallout. Yeah. Which means that like all those exclusives won't come to our platforms. Anyway, so a win and a loss. But apparently the short version is that a lot of people, apparently on Amazon the sales ranking of the previous version of the Xbox went up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:36 Because a lot of people in their confusion bought the previous model Xbox instead of pre-ordering the new model Xbox. So I think a lot of people are like, wow, the new Xbox got to my house really quickly in a day even though it wasn't supposed to be. Oh, I bought the old one. That's great. Would it be fair PlayStation also had a terrible launch
Starting point is 00:40:53 where they didn't have enough pre-orders and they kept going up at different times and all those different kinds of things. So both of them haven't done particularly well. I'm still going to wait. But the fact that they bought Bethesda, that's changed a lot because there was a lot of like Xbox doesn't have any games. Well, that's true. I do prefer PlayStation.
Starting point is 00:41:10 That's what I'm currently on. But if the Xbox is better, like I'll switch. I don't care. Like I'm not loyal to one brand. And I also think that it's like competition is good. Like we don't want one to crush the other because then one dictates the market. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:24 If they're both, you know, if they're both kind of trying to up each other prices, you know, potentially go down, you get more creative games. Apparently a lot of Bethesda stuff, while it's well regarded, doesn't do particularly well. Okay. Like Dishonored 2 didn't do well. But that's not where they get all their money from because they've got huge IPs. Yeah, yeah, no, for sure.
Starting point is 00:41:43 But like Evil Within 2, Fallout 76 isn is the one that people don't like. That's trash though, isn't it? But apparently now, so apparently a lot of people now are like, well, they can finally do a really great Fallout. Like a Fallout New Vegas. New Vegas 2, right? Exactly, because they have Bethesda that own the property and then they have.
Starting point is 00:41:59 I think all those guys moved to another company and made the Outer Wilds or the Outer Worlds or something. It's the Outer Worlds. So who made the Outer Wilds or the Outer Worlds or something? It's the Outer Worlds. So who made the Outer Wilds? Somebody else. Yeah. Right. But, yeah, so because ZeniMax and the Outer Worlds guys,
Starting point is 00:42:13 or Microsoft do now, they can make a new fallout with those guys, assuming that they're on board or they want to do that or, you know. The other thing is, like, companies have bought up other companies before. Yeah. Like Microsoft purchased Rare or whatever happened to them. Do you remember that in like the early 2000s? Yeah. It made like Donkey Kong and Perfect Dark and Goldeneye and all that.
Starting point is 00:42:34 But they didn't really do anything with a lot of those titles. Right. Like they didn't enhance them. Like why aren't there Banjo-Kazooie games like every three years and it's as big as Mario? You know what I mean? Right. It's shit like that that doesn't, like why isn't Perfect Dark like a massive franchise?
Starting point is 00:42:47 Yeah, yeah. But people are also wondering, and I probably wouldn't worry that much, but the idea of if Microsoft has acquired all these IPs, are they going to make them all Xbox exclusive? But they probably won't. They'd go to PC as well. Yeah, that's true. They're honoring some commitments to games.
Starting point is 00:43:05 I think you want to talk about Deathloop. I was talking about Deathloop, yeah. That might be one of them. But then I'd imagine that Doom won't go to PlayStation 5 or whatever. Yeah, right. That being said, depending on sales numbers, sometimes the exclusives eventually do jump over. That's true.
Starting point is 00:43:20 So they might be like, well, we're not going to make any more money with Doom 3 or whatever version of Doom they're releasing next. So we'll put it on PlayStation now. I think a lot of people are saying that Microsoft, a strategy they might pursue is they could put all the Bethesda stuff on their Game Pass where you pay X amount of money per month and then you get the games for free. But then if you want to buy them on PS5, you have to pay like $70.
Starting point is 00:43:45 Oh, okay. So people would be like if you want to buy them on PS5, you have to pay like $70. Oh, okay. So people would be like, well, I could buy a PS5 and get these games eventually or I could just sign up to Game Pass for however much it is a month. And play them all. Play them all for freebies. That's a good idea. Yeah. People like that Game Pass, don't they?
Starting point is 00:43:57 They do. They like that Game Pass. Anyway, Deathloop. Yeah. What do you think? I think it looks cool. Yeah. So what's the deal with that game?
Starting point is 00:44:04 So the premise is that you're an assassin. You're an assassin. You're on an island that's stuck in a time loop. Cool. And there's like eight horrible crime lord type people and you have to kill them all, but you have to kill them all before the end of the night because if you don't, the time loop resets
Starting point is 00:44:22 and you have to start again. Yes. So you have to, but they're all in positions where it's impossible to kill them all at the same of the night because if you don't, the time loop resets and you have to start again. Yes. So you have to, but they're all in positions where it's impossible to kill them all at the same time. Right. So you have to maneuver them all with various machinations so they end up, they all end up, you know, in your crosshairs pretty much
Starting point is 00:44:36 at the same time. Yes. So you can hunt them down and kill them. But also there's somebody trying to kill you. And they're also in the loop, maybe? Yes. Yeah, there's you and another assassin who are both, you both know the time loop is happening and you have to, and they're trying to kill you while you're trying to kill everybody else. So you can either have an AI-controlled assassin trying to kill you or you can get another player coming in out of nowhere
Starting point is 00:44:55 who's going to knock you off. So is it like the one map? Yeah. Cool. That sounds really interesting. It does seem interesting, doesn't it? Is there a single player element then, obviously? There is, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Yeah, good. I would have zero interest at all. I think if it was just multiplayer and there was a human-controlled assassin trying to kill me at all times, I would never get out of the front gate, honestly. No, he'd be younger and faster. Yeah, exactly. And he'd probably be an internet celebrity more so than you.
Starting point is 00:45:21 You know what I mean? I cannot even conceive of that. That's how they pair people off. I know. Would I be fighting Markiplier? Would I be fighting Scott the Woz? I love Scott the Woz. I don't know what he does.
Starting point is 00:45:34 He's great. He does like retro stuff and he's good. Would I be fighting Top Hat Gaming Man? I don't know who that is. Okay, right. I'm making a video about like what it's like to be a YouTuber, right? Oh, really? I'm slowly putting it together.
Starting point is 00:45:50 I'm just like all these weird things. They're like, that's a weird thing, whatever. It's very self-indulgent, so I don't know whether I actually put it out. But one of the things is often, not often, but every now and then it'll be like, I can't believe you took this video like verbatim from Jork Blork Floody Floop or whatever. And I'm like, I don't know who the fuck that is. Well, he's from Jupiter.
Starting point is 00:46:07 He's a YouTuber from Jupiter. That's his whole, that's his tagline. I'm the YouTuber from Jupiter. There's like 31 million YouTubers, right? Yeah. And the thing is like, and I don't want to be like, I don't know who that is because that's rude to be like, I don't fucking know.
Starting point is 00:46:22 Yeah. But sometimes it's like, well, Aladdin's in the news, so everybody's going to do a video on Aladdin. Yeah, that's right. And oftentimes people do the same research and find out, you know, how they treated Robin Williams or whatever, and then everybody puts it in their video. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:46:40 But some people have the extra little bit of extra juice that they're from Jupiter. That's right. And you don't. You're just from a regular Earth. Falk Burton, whatever I said his name. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's one weird thing that happens every now and then.
Starting point is 00:46:51 Because, yeah, I kind of don't know how to approach that, to be like, I don't care about this guy that you mentioned. Because it's not, I just, you know what? You have to say, I would respect his work had I known who he was. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. All right. But I don't respect those filthy dupies he was. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. All right. But I don't respect those filthy dupies.
Starting point is 00:47:08 Wow. Yeah, that's right. I thought you were going to say a different thing then. People from Jupiter. So The Boys is getting a spin-off. Craig Rosenberg is an executive producer and writer on the main series, is writing the pilot and a reverent R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal competitive supes as they put their physical,
Starting point is 00:47:24 sexual and moral boundaries to the test. My goodness. Blending the pitfalls of a college series with the gritty competitive nature of the Hunger Games and heart satire and raunch of the main series. So it's like superhero high. Yes. Huh. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:47:37 But they're all awful maybe. Of course they're all awful, yeah. You on board? I guess so. Why not? It's all going to be on Amazon for free. Should we talk about the boys in what we are going to read? We should talk about that.
Starting point is 00:47:47 We should talk about the revelation we had this week also. Oh, yeah. Hughie, one of the main characters, is Jack Quaid, is Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan's son. And we were both like, oh, no, why? And there's no reason to. It makes sense. It's from a perspective of like, I thought he was just like an every guy
Starting point is 00:48:09 who worked his way up in acting and he seemed so affable because I like him in things. I like him in this. I like him in other things. And I'm like, oh, he's the son of two celebrities. Ah, fuck. God damn it. Ah.
Starting point is 00:48:21 Which, I mean, makes it because most, when you look at most actors and celebrities and all that sort of stuff in Hollywood, eventually you find, like, their parents were Hollywood producers and that's how they got this. Or, you know, their parents were models or whatever. But we're like, oh, can't we just have one? Yeah, because he kind of looks like an everyman, you know what I mean? He's not like, you know, he doesn't really look like Dennis Quaid, does he?
Starting point is 00:48:42 He looks taller than Dennis Quaid. I don't know what's going on. Anyway, there you go. We've hopefully ruined that for everybody else. Let us know if we ruined that for you, yes or no. Tweet at us at Wikipedia Brand at MrSundayMovies, just yes or no. Did we ruin Jack Quaid for you? We hope yes.
Starting point is 00:48:58 We hope yes, but we don't want to sway it either way. As Mason ruined it for me. Yeah, no problem. Happy to. Mason ruined it for me. Yeah, no problem. Happy to. As women, our life stages come with unique risk factors.
Starting point is 00:49:14 Like when our estrogen levels drop during menopause, causing the risk of heart disease to go up. Know your risks. Visit heartandstroke.ca FX's The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from istanbul to paris and london one woman has a secret the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost fx is the veil starring elizabeth moss is now streaming on disney plus so i mentioned big sandwich you can sign up nine bucks a month as a bonus podcast or whatever Starring Elizabeth Moss is now streaming on Disney+. So I mentioned Big Sandwich.
Starting point is 00:49:47 You can sign up for nine bucks a month. There's bonus podcasts, audio commentaries, whatever. There's the ad for that, right, Mason? Nice, good ad. Obligatory ad. Good ad. We're going to continue our discussion from last week on properties that only got one, but maybe two.
Starting point is 00:49:59 You know what I mean? Maybe a second one. Maybe do two. But maybe magic of one means shouldn't do two. Well, that's the other thing, isn't it? Do you want to quickly recap the nice guys, the other guys thing? I think there should be sequels to both in summary. Really?
Starting point is 00:50:13 Yep, why not? What would the other – I mean, they're just cops, aren't they, the other guys? Just doing cop stuff. Let's just stop. Okay, then. All right. Before we get more.
Starting point is 00:50:21 All right. We tell ourselves that it's not a good idea. All right, all right. But, yeah. But, no, I think more so the nice guys, you know, different. That's the Russell Crowe one. Yeah, yeah. Different era maybe.
Starting point is 00:50:32 I guess they could, yeah. Jump ahead, jump back. It doesn't matter, does it? Different year. Just make it like instead of 1973, it's 1974. Nice. Different eras. What about this?
Starting point is 00:50:44 This is not for me. All right. People are constantly calling for it. There's always. Nice. Different eras. What about this? This is not for me. People are constantly calling for it. There's always a petition. Alita Battle Angel. Oh. Well, we did get that huge revelation at the end that the evil bad guy was Edward Norton, the actor Edward Norton. The only reason that would be a compelling revelation
Starting point is 00:51:00 is if you know the voice and it's the actor Edward Norton. That's right. Doesn't he take his goggles off? Yeah. Maybe he doesn't. He's like, look at me googly it's the actor Edward Norton. That's right. Doesn't he take his goggles off? Yeah. Maybe he doesn't. He's like, look at me googly eyes. I'm Edward Norton. I was in Fight Club.
Starting point is 00:51:12 He was. I didn't. I was in the Hulk, but I demanded too many script rewrites. Yeah, that's fair enough. I can understand that. Look at this Edward Norton apologist over here. He's all right. Speaking of, isn't he the son of like an oil baron or something?
Starting point is 00:51:26 Or maybe. Let's look into it. I'm pretty sure he is. He's from like an oil tycoon family or some shit like that. Oh, yeah, that sounds about right. Yeah, okay. You know, whatever. You can't help me.
Starting point is 00:51:34 If you're born into an oil tycoon family, that's fine, isn't it? Yeah. But he, yeah, I don't, I liked Alita more than I thought I would, but I'm not really. It would be a painful, I don't – I liked Alita more than I thought I would, but I'm not really – It would be a painful – I don't know. I just – I mean the designs were good. Yeah, there was a lot of stuff that I liked. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:54 Maybe they can flesh out Jai Courtney's rollerball character more than none. Remember he was in it? He was like one of the team members or something. He was too, wasn't he? Yeah. Remember Ed Scroon got his face cut off and he was like, my beautiful face members or something. He was too, wasn't he? Yeah. Remember Ed Scrooge got his face cut off? Yes. And he was like, my beautiful face.
Starting point is 00:52:07 My face has fallen off. Yeah. Well, maybe you shouldn't have made your whole body a robot body. You know what I mean? Right. Yeah. So that's all I'm saying. But what about you?
Starting point is 00:52:14 Do you want some more Alita Battle Angel? Yeah, kind of. I'd probably see another one. Okay. How did it do financially? Okay. Okay, great. Great.
Starting point is 00:52:24 And there was also the kind of thing like instead of seeing Captain Marvel, see a real movie. Go and see Alita Battle Angelica. Yeah. Which nobody really. Well, they should stack it up. They should stack the sequel up against another fake movie, whatever the next fake movie coming out is.
Starting point is 00:52:37 Yeah, absolutely. What's the next fake movie that isn't a real movie, you know? What's coming out? Yeah. That's also true. I just couldn't even tell you for a second. Yeah. This is something that you're more on board for than I think
Starting point is 00:52:49 than me. That being said, it's got a lot of potential. Edward Norton's grandfather was James Wilson Rouse. He was a pioneering American real estate developer, urban planner, civic activist, and later free enterprise based philanthropist. Okay. Received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Starting point is 00:53:05 For all the freedom that he did? All the freedom that he did, yes. So he wasn't an oil baron then? Maybe he was. Let's find out. I mean, just because the Wikipedia summary doesn't say that at the start, somewhere buried in the middle it might be like, he's a real evil oil baron also.
Starting point is 00:53:19 No, he got freedom. Shopping malls, it says. Yeah, sure. Planned communities. Yep, yep, yep. Nothing cool or interesting though, so he can be consigned to the history's basket of people going to hell. So Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Starting point is 00:53:36 Oh, yeah. I would 100% say otherwise. I would too, even though I didn't love Man From U.N.C.L.E., but it feels like this should be better, right? You know what I mean? Maybe, yeah. I should like this more than I do. Why didn't you like it?
Starting point is 00:53:50 It just wasn't very interesting. A bit meandering. A bit meandering. I loved the aesthetic and the cast, but, like, the twists and turns weren't that interesting. Remember when they had, like, a flashback to what really happened or whatever and they, like, did that kind of. Oh, yeah, right, right, right.
Starting point is 00:54:04 But they did it, like, from something that happened, like, five Eleven thing. Oh, yeah, right, right. But they did it from something that happened like five minutes prior. Oh, that's right, yeah. Yeah, so. But, you know, and Hugh Grant is maybe running the team or something. Yeah. Yeah, but just put more Guy Ritchie stuff into it. If you made it like, what was his last one that he did? Aladdin?
Starting point is 00:54:19 The Gentleman. The Gentleman, the one after Aladdin. If you did The Gentleman, like put a bit of that into. A bit of sauce. A bit of sauce, yeah, into Man From U.N.C.L.E., don't you think that would be more interesting? I think the fun of Man From U.N.C.L.E. is it is kind of quaint. Like there is a revelation.
Starting point is 00:54:35 You thought we didn't know you were on the submarine, but we knew you were on the submarine. But that's what, like the Gentleman was a bunch of that shit as well, wasn't it? Yeah, but it was more like people getting kicked in the face as well. Yeah, that's fine. You know what the problem is? The problem probably is finding actors that can act across
Starting point is 00:54:49 Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill just because they're both enormous men. It's like call out for six foot one women who can conceivably act across these people. We've run out of boxes for people to stand on. Right? Yeah, I can understand that. So do you think that's what's going on? I think that's absolutely what's going on. Also, it probably didn't do well. No, I think Right? Yeah, I can understand that. So do you think that's what's going on? I think that's absolutely what's going on.
Starting point is 00:55:05 But I would definitely... Also, it probably didn't do well. No, I think it did okay. I can check that. But, you know, there's like the moment where he's eating a sandwich while the other guys are drowning or whatever. There's fun stuff in it. They're the original odd couple.
Starting point is 00:55:16 Yeah, that's right. Apart from the TV series and movie, The Odd Couple. This came out in 2015. That feels like a million years ago, doesn't it? So it made $109 million worldwide, but I don't think it probably cost quite a bit as well. Yeah, it cost $75 million. So, yeah, it didn't do very well overall.
Starting point is 00:55:34 And once you factor in apple crates for people to stand on, no money at all. And you have to throw them out after every use, they're single use. That's right. So, you know, what do you do? I don't know why I've written this, but I wrote Green Lantern. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:49 There will be another one eventually. There will be, but like there's enough in that movie. Yes, go on. That you could take characters and actors and then make a better sequel. Oh, you definitely could, yeah. I think that was what I was saying with that. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:03 Don't, though. No, absolutely not. You could. Just do a different version. I mean, you could I was saying with that. Right. Yeah. Don't though. No, absolutely not. You could. Just do a different version. I mean, you could argue that of literally anything. You could be like, well, if they took this bad movie and you took some of the elements, like one of the actors and you completely retooled the entire thing,
Starting point is 00:56:16 you could make a better movie. Yeah, I know. You're talking about Deadpool specifically. Yeah, sure. Absolutely, yeah. No, I see what you're saying. Yeah, but I think, you know, it's got an interesting post-credits, like Sinestro casting is good.
Starting point is 00:56:27 But I think, yeah, no, I think if we're going to make sequels, I think if we abandon everything, like we have to maintain the core conceit of the movie. Like it has to be in the style of the original movie. Oh, does it? Yes. Oh, then no. Yeah, then absolutely no.
Starting point is 00:56:44 And I don't want that. Why don't you put Green Lantern question mark? I didn't even put question mark. I was question marking it though. Yeah, and also I think they might be doing some Green Lantern stuff in that Justice League, new Justice League version maybe. Yeah. Because there is Green Lanterns in the flashback.
Starting point is 00:57:00 Uh-huh. You know, one's got a big hammer or whatever and it dies and the ring flies off. I think there'll be more Big Hammer stuff. More Big Hammer stuff. Do you think they could secretly cast a new hammer or whatever and it dies and the ring flies off. I think there'll be more big hammer stuff. More big hammer stuff. Do you think they could secretly cast a new Green Lantern? Definitely. Put them in there?
Starting point is 00:57:09 Yeah. Wouldn't they? Well, that's the thing, though. Like, in order for us to care about that character, wouldn't they have to intersperse them in scenes with all the other cast? Not necessarily. You have a ring arrives to them or they open an alien ship and the ring jumps on them.
Starting point is 00:57:26 Yes. That's all you do. I guess. You do it like that. And, you know, like what happened in, you know, Orion Reynolds opens a thing. You know what I guess what you could do is you could put them, you could have them be a survivor of the Man of Steel attack on Metropolis.
Starting point is 00:57:40 There you go. Like you could just put them in that and they'd be like, well, I don't have any powers but I'm saving these people because that's what I do or whatever and then later they get the ring. Okay, that could work. Has this ever been done that there's been like a Green Lantern character? Also, I'd like it to be Guy Gardner, John Cena. Me too.
Starting point is 00:57:55 We can't do that anymore. We can't do that as a piece of paper. Has this ever been done? It probably has in the comics. So like somebody, like an amputee, like missing legs or an arm or whatever and they get a Green Lantern ring and the green ring fills in the arm. Oh, I don't know, but I mean they did that with Venom. Yeah, that's what I'm – yeah, that's what I'm –
Starting point is 00:58:10 Yeah, so maybe. I just thought, you know, like – Scoot McNary. Scoot McNary exploded. I mean, he exploded, yeah. I mean, maybe the ring could put him back together. Yeah, definitely. It's just barely – he just finds Scoot McNary's finger
Starting point is 00:58:21 and pieces the rest back together. Oh, my God. Yeah. I don't know whether you've ever seen this. I'm a big fan. We watched it also the other day with my son who loved it. Nathan Zedd also has an excellent video on it. Oh, does Scott the Woz have a good video?
Starting point is 00:58:33 He probably would, Mason. No, he's more video game based. But Sky High. You ever seen Sky High? It's got Kurt Russell in it? It does. And Kelly Preston who recently passed away. But Sky High is a really terrific superhero movie
Starting point is 00:58:45 that was supposed to get like a Disney Channel spin-off. Like a TV series. TV series, which never happened. But it's also got the tall guy from Succession, the cousin Greg and whatever. Mary Elizabeth Winstead's in it. There's a bunch of Killer Frost is in it. Yeah, Daniel Panabaker.
Starting point is 00:59:06 Yeah. So it's really cool. It's like a really fun superhero origin. What do you do in a sequel? Are they just in the high school again still? Yep. I mean, not them. I'm sure I've watched it or some of it, but
Starting point is 00:59:21 doesn't that make it more samey? Isn't it samey if they're just in high school again? I know it's a different generation or whatever. I don't know. Okay. But that takes the – Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what it is?
Starting point is 00:59:31 It's like a – it's Galaxy Quest-esque. Okay. Like it's very funny but like can this be done again kind of thing. Okay, right, mining in a world kind of situation. Yeah, too much – like Bruce Campbell's in it. Dave Foley's in it. There's like too much time probably has passed. See, that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:59:48 Even you recast it with, you go, okay, it's Sky High, the next generation, and it's people with less charisma. Yeah. Or like, and it, or not even less charisma. I'm sure you can find charismatic actors, but the idea of like, well, there's the magic gel together as well. The least interesting person in that is probably the lead as well. Okay, right.
Starting point is 01:00:06 Everything else. Not that he's bad. Oh, because he's a generic kid. He's like a generic like strong guy or whatever, you know what I mean? Yeah. But it's a bloody banger, mate. You should watch it. You want to watch it?
Starting point is 01:00:15 Yeah. Good. What about this, Mason? Go on. World War Z or Z. David Fincher was going to do a sequel with Brad Pitt. It got pretty far along. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:26 But then they said no and they didn't make it. Negotiations broke down over what soda pop they were going to drink in the finale. And would Brad Pitt even do that now? That's right. Because Ab's Pitt, you know? Yep. So that's what he's all about.
Starting point is 01:00:39 That's right. I'm one of those people who doesn't hate World War Z. It's a miracle that it's like anything. I remember it being fine, sure. But the book is interesting and there's a lot of world building that could be done. Oh, because it's a lot of – World War Z, the book is based around the premise of there was a zombie apocalypse
Starting point is 01:00:57 and we've rebuilt after that. And this is like what happened. It's like an account. Okay. I can't remember whether I've read it or I think I've read it. But I definitely have a copy of it. I maybe read it like six years ago or started to. Maybe you bought it and your wife reads it to you while you're asleep.
Starting point is 01:01:11 Might be, yeah. But it's not like Brad Pitt's trying to save his family and whatever else happens and whatever. But I think it's an okay zombie movie and I think. Well, that's why we definitely did a sequel for an okay zombie movie. And it surprisingly did well and David Fincher and Brad Pitt doing that would have been cool. I think it's probably not going to happen now but whatever, man.
Starting point is 01:01:32 You know what I mean? Yeah. But also didn't they kind of unravel how you can make yourself invisible to zombies at the end of the first? Yes, they did. You have to make yourself a zombie briefly, don't you? Yes. No, you've got to just give yourself like the flu or whatever.
Starting point is 01:01:51 And then if you're sick, it won't attack you because you're like you're not a viable host. Oh, interesting. Okay. But like don't be picky because you're all screaming monsters. Right? You're all literally disintegrating. Come on.
Starting point is 01:02:01 Come on. But are they though? Because I don't even know if they're living. I don't know either. Yeah. Well, we should definitely do a sequel to this movie. We both barely remember. Come on. Come on. But are they though? Because I don't even know if they're living. I don't know either. Yeah. Well, we should definitely do a sequel to this movie we both barely remember. Agreed. Here's something that does have a sequel which people have reminded us of.
Starting point is 01:02:12 Oh, yes. But I would like to see a sequel sequel. Jumper, which is a movie that I think is underrated. And what's the sequel it got? It's called Impulse. It's a YouTube short series. By the original creators in some way? I don't know, Mason, but I just know that whenever we bring it up,
Starting point is 01:02:29 people say, have you seen Impulse? And the answer is no. Right. Yeah. So, yeah, it was a YouTube premium show that came out in 2018. Ah. And by all accounts, it's looking for results here. It is.
Starting point is 01:02:44 Go on. Go on, James. It's 10 episodes. By all accounts, it's 10 episodes for results here. It is. Go on. Go on, James. It's 10 episodes. By all accounts, it's 10 episodes, right? It might be 20, actually. Oh, by some accounts, it might be 20 episodes. And the first season was met with a positive response from critics, and it holds 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Starting point is 01:02:57 Oh, my God. So there you go. That's pretty impressive. Maybe we'll check out. But you're not a Jumper fan, though, are you? I mean, I watched it the once, so I couldn't tell you. I watched it this year, I think, and I'm like, this is all right. All right, maybe I'll give it a rewatch.
Starting point is 01:03:08 It's got some cool action sequences. There's some things you can do with that. Do you introduce? I do. People with different powers other than the ability to jump? Maybe that's what the show Impulse is about. Or maybe it isn't. It's one of those situations.
Starting point is 01:03:23 Can you give me a definitive answer on that? On the show Impulse? Yes. No. I just closed the tab. Can anyone? Yes or no? Don't give me the answer.
Starting point is 01:03:31 Tell me if you can. We already did a yes or no. I know. But I can't remember what the first one is anyway. I don't want to open up this to more like discourse concerning the jumper and Impulse universe. I don't know why I brought this up. Okay, sorry.
Starting point is 01:03:44 Well, okay, just answer the first question then, folks out there, our valued listeners. If you could. Yes. How are you on, I feel like I'm burning through these, but that's all right, isn't it? Yeah. Just bloody get into them.
Starting point is 01:03:54 Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the movie. Yes. It's okay, isn't it? Yeah, I'd like to see more of that. Martin Freeman. What do they do? They go to a cafe on Jupiter or whatever it is? They go to a restaurant at the end of the universe.
Starting point is 01:04:07 Yeah, that's right. Have you read that book? I've only read the first one. Yeah. I have them all in the boot of my car for some reason if you'd like to borrow them. I do not want that. Okay.
Starting point is 01:04:13 I also have a copy of it. So would it be worth making a sequel or doing this as like a series? Well, I mean it was a series. Yes. So a modern day big budget series. I think they also did one in the 80s as well. I don't know if, yeah, I was going to say initially, I don't know if people have the patience to sit through this again,
Starting point is 01:04:34 but remember people left? It's 15 years old though. That's true. I think now after the shows that have come since. Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones. I mean, like, you know, you get some left of centre sci-fi and superhero stuff.
Starting point is 01:04:46 I think this would probably work better now than it did 15 years ago to the general populace. And it also involves the earth being demolished and I think a lot of people would be like, oh, thank God. What a relief. Oh, my God. This future is the future we dreamed of. There'd be less panic and more people going, oh, yeah, good actually.
Starting point is 01:05:00 Yeah. It's really good if I'm honest. Yeah. Do I get to have a lie in on the day that the Earth is demolished? Good, great. That movie. I think there'd be people going like, because Arthur Dent, he wakes up and he discovers that his house is being demolished.
Starting point is 01:05:13 Yeah. I think a lot of people would be like, go back to bed, Arthur Dent. Don't even worry about him, man. Just let him do it. It's fine. Absolutely. I like that cast. I like it too.
Starting point is 01:05:24 But would you get the original cast back? Probably not. I mean, if it was a sequel, then yes. Yep. But I think also that that movie is too rushed. I think that's what didn't work for me. Yeah. So you start from scratch is what you're saying.
Starting point is 01:05:36 So no is what I'm saying. Yeah, they did really try and squeeze in. Yeah. Zooey Deschanel, is she in that? She's in that, yeah. Yeah. Most Def. Alan Rick in that, yeah Most Def Alan Rickman
Starting point is 01:05:46 Yes Most Def It's good though, I think it's okay The movie Yes, correct, yes Get Out, Mason I'll get out too No, Get Out
Starting point is 01:05:56 Get back in What do you think? Because it's a universe where like brain transplants Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers folks for Get Out Spoilers for Get Out. I know, but people still haven't gotten around to it. That's true. If you haven't gotten around to it, you should pause this
Starting point is 01:06:10 and get around to it. Yes. But anyway, spoilers for Get Out. Also spoilers for all of those. Oh, yeah. Should have put that up too. Get Out. Yeah, I mean it ended with two best pals who were like,
Starting point is 01:06:23 we should go and find all these people that have brain transplanted into the bodies of African-American people and kill them all. So I would love to see that. Yeah, absolutely. Because the first one is like it's so tense and it's so. But you also don't know what's going on. So do you think that would like lessen the effect of the second one
Starting point is 01:06:43 or do you think it would be interesting where it's been flipped? Yeah. Where like the characters are now actively. I think it would be a different movie but I think that would totally work in the sense that like the movie was so tense and we got a certain release at the end because we're like, because remember at the end, like Daniel Kaluuya, he escapes and then the police car rolls up and you're like, oh, no, he's going to be killed after all this
Starting point is 01:07:06 and then it's his friend. There was another ending where it wasn't that. They shot a few others. And we get that really similar. We're like, oh, that's really fast. It feels good. But I think in the next one it would just be like just a visceral thrill of them just killing all these horrible people.
Starting point is 01:07:19 I don't think it has to be the same. It doesn't have to be a horror movie. I think it should just be like they go out and they kill all these people because they're awful. Yep. Cool. Let's do it. Let's do it.
Starting point is 01:07:30 Us? No. Probably not the right people. To act in it. Or you just all make the movie. We don't even have the copyright for one even if we were able to. Yeah. I mean, it couldn't be.
Starting point is 01:07:42 Yeah. What about this? Go on. What about this? Ex machina but like there's a robot running about. I like it. In the real world. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:51 And she's like, I've got skin and hair now. That's true, yeah. I'm going to maybe do a Westworld style. Oh, it's just Westworld, isn't it? It really is. That's a shame, isn't it? Yeah. That stands on its own, that movie, though.
Starting point is 01:08:03 Yeah. But I mean, also, you know, so much of the premise of that movie, well, it is quite self-contained in the sense that most of that movie is, is she alive or is she not alive? And we... Does she have... Is Domino Gleeson going to get out? Is she sent in?
Starting point is 01:08:18 Is she, you know, or is she just a collection of programming and we kind of, once she's out of the closed system, it doesn't really matter anymore. Yeah, absolutely. Okay. So no is what you're saying? No, let's say no. It's the magic of that one.
Starting point is 01:08:30 I agree. I'm with you on that. Plus we can't bring back Oscar Isaac. No. Unless computer. Unless computer. Robot. Robot man.
Starting point is 01:08:36 She makes a robot Oscar Isaac. Robot Oscar Isaac. But would Oscar Isaac do it? Doesn't matter. We've got a robot Oscar Isaac. Yeah, you just get a fake one. Yeah, yeah. Fake one.
Starting point is 01:08:43 Yeah, yeah. You build him like one of the fake Bill and Ted's in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. Just a tin can robot. Just made of like hair dryers and stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Great. What about this?
Starting point is 01:08:54 Go on. I don't know why I've written this, but Tango and Cash and it's modern day and they're privatized. Okay. Yep. They're still, Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone. What do you think?
Starting point is 01:09:05 Yes. Okay, cool. Don're still, Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone. What do you think? Yes. Okay, cool. Don't give me this Expendables nonsense where they're just generic. I've never been on board. No, I know. Yeah. But you might turn one day. No.
Starting point is 01:09:14 What I'm saying is before you go crazy and be like, let's do Expendables 4, let's not do Expendables 4. Instead of just being like, here's some old cranks from old movies you remember sort of liking. Just have them wander around and shoot guns and maybe you'll like that. Yeah. Just give us a more focused, get two of the actors we enjoyed and give them a focused adventure.
Starting point is 01:09:34 Yep. Why not Tango and Cash? Why not Tango and Cash? Why not Rambo and Snake Plissken? Yeah, okay. But on different time periods. Yeah, no, that's true. Rambo and Jack.
Starting point is 01:09:43 Yeah, I was going to say, big trouble. But then one's wacky and one's too serious. And one ran into the mountains on a horse, remember, because he murdered all those people. Yeah. I mean, they were drug cartels, but you're going to have to answer questions. That is true, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:59 Yeah. What about Cobra and Jack? No, because Cobra's too serious as well, I think. Yeah, but that would work though, wouldn't it? I guess it would, yeah. Yeah, you're right. Yeah. Because, yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:10 Yeah, maybe. No, let's do Tango and Cash. Do you think in this new one, though, you'd have to also, Kurt Russell, comment on the size of Stallone's penis in it, like you did in the last one? Yeah, yeah. Okay. Still looking good.
Starting point is 01:10:20 No, I think it was the opposite. Oh, right. Still looking bad. Still got a bad dick, Sly Stallone. Sorry. So, yeah, I like it was the opposite. All right. Still looking bad. Still got a bad dick sliced alone. Sorry. So, yeah, I like the idea of tag or catch. Would you do another Escape from New York or something like that? Well, they're talking about a reboot, aren't they?
Starting point is 01:10:35 Going back into New York or whatever it is, yeah. Isn't his son maybe going to do it? Like Wyatt Russell? That's a guy, though, who's the son of a celebrity, and I'm like, no, that's cool. I like him. Right, who's the son of a celebrity, and I'm like, no, that's cool. I like him. Right. What's the difference?
Starting point is 01:10:48 Also because we know that Wyatt Russell is the son of Kurt Russell. Yeah. But Jack Quaid, Dennis Quaid. He tricked us. He didn't trick us, though. That's the thing. But I reckon their PR people are like, hey, you know Wyatt Russell. He's the son of Kurt Russell.
Starting point is 01:11:04 Like they're upfront about it. Okay. But I feel like they're basically with a Jack Quaid, they've gone like, hey, you want to interview Jack Quaid for the boys? Do not mention he's the son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid. Do not bring it up or you do not get the interview. But I also think that I don't think that's what Wyatt Russell is known for either.
Starting point is 01:11:21 Right. Like I don't think he's, you know, that's not the front and centre of the things that he's about. Yeah, right. So Lee Wannell wants Wyatt Russell for Escape from New York. I don't know whether that's actually, but that'd be a good company. Did you ever see Zombies But Mutants? Wyatt Russell was in it.
Starting point is 01:11:35 It's a World War II one. Oh, Overlord. Yeah, that was good. No, I didn't. Never watched it. You should watch it. I will. It's on Summerlist.
Starting point is 01:11:40 It's good, good, good. Yeah. What other, are there any other 80s buddy things that we could bring back somehow? Cobra. No, he doesn't have any buddies. He's friendless Cobra. They call him No Friends Cobretti.
Starting point is 01:11:55 That's a great question. Yeah. So would you do a Commando, for example? Alyssa Milano, still around? Yeah, but like what are you doing with Commando now? I don't know but I would watch it. I'm not even a huge fan of the original You might be a huge fan of this though. Yeah but I think
Starting point is 01:12:12 it's like it's exactly what it is like it's perfect right as what it is but then you take that guy and you're like he's old and it's like but who cares? You barely lift that four barrel rocket launcher you know? Yeah and the big tree stump and all those things I know the imagery but I just don't think it's like, but who cares? You barely lift that four-barrel rocket launcher, you know? Yeah, and the big tree stump and all those things. I know the imagery.
Starting point is 01:12:27 But I just don't think it's, I don't think it would do well either. Yeah, probably, yeah. It's like it's Commando but his granddaughter got kidnapped or whatever. Like because you couldn't make it, would you have to make it like similar to the first or would you do like a wild spin-off where he's like filled with regret? Like because neither of those sound good to me. I think it would just be wacky probably.
Starting point is 01:12:46 Okay. You can call it Grandpa Commando. Okay. Fine. Gramps Commando. Grand Old Commando. Great. What else was from the 80s though?
Starting point is 01:12:56 It's just like a one-off thing. What about a bloody Big Trouble, which they're doing with The Rock? What about a Kurt Russell version? I don't know. I kind of like the magic of that one where it is. He'll definitely be in the remake, right, in some capacity? I'd imagine so. As Lopan?
Starting point is 01:13:12 He'll put him in? I've never seen it. Put him in Oriental makeup? Cause a huge scandal? He'd do it too. Yeah. No, he probably wouldn't do that. You know what?
Starting point is 01:13:22 And maybe it's because I don't have any particularly great memories, like of Tango and Cash. I'm like, well, it's probably going to be better than the that. You know what? And maybe it's because I don't have any particularly great memories, like of Tango and Cash. I'm like, well, it's probably going to be better than the original. You know what I mean? So maybe Tango and Cash is the one I want. All right, fair enough. What about Masters of the Universe? What about Over the Top?
Starting point is 01:13:37 What about- Over the Top 2, still topping. Still topping. What about Blind Fury? With Rutger Hau. Rutger Hau is dead. He's dead. Why don't you get another guy? Have you seen the trailer for
Starting point is 01:13:47 Overseer? Which one's that? It's a video game. It's a remake. Yeah. Overseer System Redux. It's like a cyberpunk action game. Yeah. It looks really good. What is it though? I don't know. Like what kind of game? It's like first person action
Starting point is 01:14:03 RPG kind of situation. You're just looking forward to Cyberpunk, aren't you? Yeah, but I mean this looks good too, actually. We should do this as well. But I'm saying Rutger Hau is in it by the fact that he died. They've brought him back. They've brought him back, yeah. Oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 01:14:16 Okay. What about this one? What about this one? What about this one? I'm ready. Cabin in the woods but like just take any of the monsters or elements and do another. Not interested. Yeah, me neither. Yeah. But, you know, people are like it's great and what about it? Yeah. in the woods but like just take any of the monsters or elements and do another not interested yeah me
Starting point is 01:14:25 neither yeah but you know people are like it's great and what about it yeah by the very nature of it you take any one of those things out i'm like no i don't care so it didn't wasn't the world destroyed by a cthulhu the world was completely destroyed uh by by elder gods at the end of that movie so yeah but like you don't want to do it about that? No. Okay. What about this? Also, the other gods were the audience, I think. It's a metaphor. Very good. I get it now. Any Edgar Wright stuff, like do you do a Shaun of the Dead 2?
Starting point is 01:14:53 Do you do a Hot Fuzz 2? But then I feel like that those movies are, in a way, continuations of each other. That is true. Despite not being sequels and different characters or whatever. It's true. But they are a contained thing. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:04 Where are you at? I would like to see a Hot Fuzz 2. Me too. Of the Cornetto trilogy, give me a Hot Fuzz 2. You don't want to see Shaun of the Dead but 20 years later and he's like, but I still don't have a job or whatever. No. Me neither.
Starting point is 01:15:18 But also Nick Frost is like a zombie. He's a zombie so you don't get that back and forth anymore. I think the best one would be Hot Fuzz 2. And I think Edgar Wright could probably make a good Hot Fuzz 2. Yeah. Because he made the first one, which was good. He made the first one good, but also maybe just we don't need it. Leave it as it is.
Starting point is 01:15:35 I think they should leave it. I've got a couple more, Mason. Okay. I've got some big ones coming up. I'm ready. The fifth element. The sixth element. What is it, though?
Starting point is 01:15:43 It's another sexy lady. That's right. It's an even sexier lady? It's another sexy lady. That's right. It's an even sexier lady. Even sexier than before. That's right, yes. That's right. I mean you'd have to, would you bring back your Bruce Willis's and all that?
Starting point is 01:15:53 No, you wouldn't, would you? We wouldn't do it. You've got to factor that in. I mean he would do it but he wouldn't do it. He released a movie this year. There's a movie out. He's in. Which one?
Starting point is 01:16:01 I don't know what it's called. It's not that medical hospital one that we talked about. No, it's a different thing. I saw it on the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates Facebook group. Somebody put it up and was like, can you believe he made a movie in 2020? Like he made it this year? Hard Kill. Hard Kill.
Starting point is 01:16:15 There we go. Or Survive the Night? I don't know. How would I know? Hard Kill sounds... Let me find a list of Bruce Willis movies. Mercenaries race against the clock to stop a man meant for music and computer program to wreak havoc around the globe. Let me find out what Bruce Willis is worth. Jesse Metcalf is in it.
Starting point is 01:16:35 Yeah. Okay, so Bruce Willis is apparently worth an estimated $200 million. Just stop, Bruce Willis. Just put your money in it. Just stop, Bruce Willis. If you can, if you're out there, just stop, Bruce Willis. Just put your money in it. Just stop Bruce Willis. If you can, if you're out there, just stop Bruce Willis. So, yeah, he's got two this year. He's got Survive the Night, Hard to Kill,
Starting point is 01:16:51 and then next year he's got Breach. He's looking so regretful on the poster. Well, he doesn't pose for posters, does he? It looks like he's looking over at his agent. Yeah. So next year he's got Breach and then Midnight in the Switchgrass and then Cosmic Sin. These are the names of the last five movies that he's been in.
Starting point is 01:17:11 Go on. James Ford, Carl Helter, Clay Young, Donovan Chalmers, Frank Clark. They're the character names. Yes. Okay, right. Also apparently he plays himself in the Lego movie too. Huh. I don't know what to...
Starting point is 01:17:27 Look, I know we pop on about this all the time, but it is mystifying, right? There's got to be some sort of... Like, surely he's done an interview in the last five years about his process or how he chooses scripts or something like that. If somebody's read one, send it in because I would love to know. Because obviously as an interviewer you can't go, why do you still make movies?
Starting point is 01:17:49 But surely there's a way to ease that in and be like. You're very prolific. Yeah, or like what. What are you doing? Right. What makes a Bruce Willis movie? What makes you go, hmm, this is the one for me kind of thing? Because what is it?
Starting point is 01:18:04 Is it like it's like he has a job at a factory or something like that and he's just like, oh, here we go. Except no one's told him, Bruce, you have $200 million. You don't need to do this if you don't want to do this. Well, some people don't stop, you know what I mean? But why? You've got those guys that like work until the day that they die. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:23 But they seem to enjoy it. That's what I'm saying. Well, maybe he does enjoy it, but he just... Maybe he doesn't like everything else, but also everybody who works with him is like, he's awful. Maybe, James, the acting is when he pretends he doesn't like it. Maybe he loves making these movies more than anything, but then his...
Starting point is 01:18:42 But he's like, acting in a movie, acting for like six weeks while we make a movie that's not a challenge for me the acting is i live my real life acting as if i hate making movies and that's my character i'm method forever now i don't know i just feel like he i think i said this last week but like he wants to play guitar and nobody cares so he's just like fine i'll fucking make movies and I'll make a million movies a year. I've got two more. Okay.
Starting point is 01:19:08 And they're big ones. They're big, hot properties. But, of course, if you do want to jump in and stop me, you can, Mason. Joker. The Joker sequel. I mean, they will make one, won't they? It made a billion dollars, right? Yeah, it made a billion dollars.
Starting point is 01:19:20 What do you do? Do you Batman it? Does he get out of the asylum and get into a different fridge? Does his mum come back as a ghost? All of those things. Do they clean up New York? And when he gets out and he's like, this isn't the New York I remember. My New York was filled with jokes.
Starting point is 01:19:34 I'm going to bring jokes back to New York. Jokes and smoking. Jokes and smoking. Yeah, because he gets out in like 2004 when they brought in that rule in pubs in Australia that you couldn't smoke. That's right. What do you think? I don't want that. Me either. 2004 when they brought in that rule in pubs in Australia that you couldn't smoke in divorce. That's right. What do you think?
Starting point is 01:19:48 I don't want that. Me neither. But do you think they will? Yes. They've definitely talked about it, right? Yeah, for sure. Yeah, yeah. And I don't know, do they do one more movie without a Batman?
Starting point is 01:19:58 I feel like- I don't think they're going to do Batman. Right. I think they're just going to keep it as this like avant-garde. Do you think he meets other villains? Like who? Penguin. The Riddler, but he smokes. Yeah, the Riddler is Penguin, but he smokes more.
Starting point is 01:20:14 Like instead of smoking through that little cigarette hole, he just smokes regular cigarettes. Yeah. Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy, but she puts her cigarettes out on plants. I was going to say, yeah, and she drinks weed killer. I don't know. There we go. Yeah, I mean puts her cigarettes out on plants. I was going to say, yeah, and she drinks weed killer. I don't know. There we go. Yeah, I mean, they'll probably do it.
Starting point is 01:20:29 But here's one that I really want. Do you do just other homages to Scorsese movies? Do you just introduce other villains in the style of other Scorsese movies somehow? Okay, so give me an example. I don't know. Gangs of New York, but it's a Joker. Yep, but it's
Starting point is 01:20:47 Penguin. That's a good one. Because he's working his way up through the gangs of Gotham. The Wolf of Wall Street, but it's Roman Sionis. Yes. Goodfellas, but it's The Mob from the Batman movies. Yep, perfect.
Starting point is 01:21:05 Casino, but it's. Gambling. There's roulette. She's a gambling lady. Yeah, I was going to say. There's a bunch of like chants related. The Royal Flush Gang. Yep, yep, yep.
Starting point is 01:21:16 Okay, what about this? Go on. Silence. It's the one about religion in Japan. Yeah, okay. But it's the Joker. And you know what they'd have in the trailer? Just the Joker being like.
Starting point is 01:21:32 You know what I mean? Because he would, wouldn't he? He'd be like. And he'd be like. Yeah. These are all good. That's a very sinister shuffling, you would say. Okay.
Starting point is 01:21:42 It is, isn't it? We also figured out our Joker commentary, which is now out somewhere, that Scott says he hasn't seen Joker. Yeah, we thought he had. They tethered his name to it, but he has nothing to do with it. Yeah. Did they even pay him? Because it's like, yeah, I saw it was going to do it,
Starting point is 01:21:59 but then I didn't. Yeah, like we were under the assumption that he was an executive producer or something like that. He was watching them dailies, but he wasn't. And then. Yeah. Like we were, we were, we were under the assumption that he was an executive producer or something like that. He was watching them dailies, but he wasn't. It was just like, Hey, I made a movie.
Starting point is 01:22:10 That's like your movies. Martin Scorsese. What do you think about this? And he's like, no, I haven't watched it. He was, I think the interview was like,
Starting point is 01:22:17 no, I get it. Yeah. Like it was like, yeah, I get it. But like, if you go to his like IMDB or his Wikipedia or whatever,
Starting point is 01:22:24 he's got zero credits in it. Yeah. He has nothing to do with it. But if you go to his IMDB or his Wikipedia or whatever, he's got zero credits in it. Yeah. He has nothing to do with it. Also, if I remember correctly in that Joker commentary, we also attempted to figure out what our Joker laughs would be because you need a specific Joker laugh. And I think we both decided ours would be, oh, that's really funny actually.
Starting point is 01:22:38 That's actually a good joke. That's a good joke. Good work. Yeah, we bloody. I'm just double checking that Martin Scorsese has that. Okay, we don't want to look like fools. No, but I'm pretty confident. We've never looked like fools before, so we don't want to now.
Starting point is 01:22:48 He's 5'3". I didn't realise that. Scorsese. No, that makes sense. He's wide though. He is wide, isn't he? Yeah. Yeah, there's nothing here about Joker.
Starting point is 01:22:56 But he was like, he's involved in like uncut gems and shit. It's a good movie. Yeah, so he's doing stuff. Yeah. But there you go. What's his star sign do you want to know scorsese yeah i reckon he is a pisces scorpio you fucking idiot god damn it i was gonna say scorpio too but i thought it'd be too obvious it would be too obvious that's your problem mason
Starting point is 01:23:16 go with your gut all right uh i've got one more okay i'm ready this is a big one though yes the movie bright you take everything that people know about the movie Bright. Or Cops. Or Cops. And you make a second Bright movie and you call it Bright but the Bs are two. Too right. And it's set in Australia and they're fighting bunyips.
Starting point is 01:23:43 Too right, mate. What do you think? I love it. James, I love it. Oh, good. All right. I think they are making bright too. Of course they are.
Starting point is 01:23:52 Yeah, because it did well. And I'll watch it, but it's not. It won't be good. The first one wasn't good and this one won't be good. But I don't think David Ayer's doing it either. But I'm pretty sure Joel Edgerton, Australian, is involved in it still. Yeah, maybe Angelina Jolie. Louis Lettier is going to direct, who did The Incredible Hulk.
Starting point is 01:24:11 Yeah, right. Do you think this is actually going to happen? Yeah, maybe. Is Will Smith back? Yep. Is Joel Edgerton back? Yep. Is he a bunyip this time?
Starting point is 01:24:20 No, he's still an orc. He's shooting bunyips. Wow. But he's like, but I'm Australian too. Should I be doing this? Yeah. No Joel Edgerton. Can't wait for T. Wright. Oh, my God still an orc. He's shooting bunyips. But he's like, but I'm Australian too. Should I be doing this? Yeah. No Joel Edgerton. Can't wait for T-Rite.
Starting point is 01:24:28 Oh, my God. Sounds really good. Look, the best thing, I think we mentioned, but the best thing that's ever come out of that is the orc cop rap. Yes. So if you've gone, just go to YouTube and look up orc cop. Yeah. It's from Lindsay Ellis' Bright Review, isn't it?
Starting point is 01:24:41 It's what she commissioned. It's very funny. Yeah, it really is. It's, I can't pronounce his last name, Demi. He's. It's very funny. Yeah, it really is. I can't pronounce his last name. He's Electro Lemon on Twitter. Okay. And he does the joke of Will Smith rapping in the style of Will Smith and explaining what happened in the movie in the form of a rap.
Starting point is 01:24:59 Very good. Very good. That's all the ones that I've got, though. We might come back to this, but I also saw a suggestion on Twitter that was like, what about, so I said it to you before the show and now I can't remember what it was, franchises that had, I'm padding because it's not in my head at all. What was it?
Starting point is 01:25:19 I don't know. What was it? What was it? Franchises. That. Yes. Will. Yes.
Starting point is 01:25:27 Have. Have. Bright sequels. Too right. Too right. I can't remember. It was a really good suggestion. Do you remember?
Starting point is 01:25:36 I said it before the show, right? Like I said. I don't know. I'm sure I did. I was too busy drinking this delicious water. Fuck, it's going to annoy me. Anyway, next segment of the show, if I remember, I'll mention it. Please do. Do you know what it is?
Starting point is 01:25:46 It's what we read in and then what we're going to read. We both watched Enola Holmes, right? I haven't even put the theme song in, Mason. Oh, my God. What are you doing? I was too excited that we both had something that we watched at the same time. Normally I'm like, oh, that sounds good. I'll get to it next week.
Starting point is 01:26:00 Yeah. And then I'll say, I'll watch the thing and you're like, I've forgotten it already. Yeah, because there's a million things on. We're just not in sync. All right, I'll say, I'll watch the thing and you're like, I've forgotten it already. Yeah, because there's a million things on. We're just not in sync. All right, here we go. I'm doing the thing. Mist world. We did both watch Enola Holmes.
Starting point is 01:26:18 Yeah. I'd only seen like 10 minutes of it when I spoke to you yesterday. Yes, uh-huh. And then I finished it last night. For me, at the start I'm like, I don't think I'm about this. Okay. But by the end I'm like, that's all right.
Starting point is 01:26:31 It's fine. It's fine. All right. Yeah, right? Well cast. It's very well cast. It's a bit meandering I think. It is a bit, yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:36 But I think that is inherent to any kind of Sherlock Holmes old-timey mystery kind of thing. He's a giant Sherlock Holmes, isn't he? Yeah. Oh, my God. He's so big. That jacket's belly containing isn't he? Yeah, oh, my God, he's so big. That jacket's belly containing Henry Cavill in there. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:26:49 But, I mean, he's not even in it that much, really. It's very much a Millie Bobby Brown movie. I think it's like it's a non-surprising but fun jaunt. But I think if, like, you haven't watched a lot of Agatha Christie or in Australia it's like ABC, like, crime detective shows or your Poirot's or whatever. Oh, yeah. It's like a. Misficious murder mystery.
Starting point is 01:27:10 Yeah, something like that. It's like a, you know, it's like a version. I think if, you know, especially if you're a younger person who hasn't really seen a lot in this kind of genre, I think you'd get a real kick out of it. Yeah. But it's fun and it's charming and, you know, and it moves along. I wish there was more Helena Bonham Carter.
Starting point is 01:27:24 I think there was Helena Bonham Carter. Helena Bonham McCartimer. That's what I, yeah, because she's kind of interspersed throughout it and I think she's terrific in it. Yeah, but what about you? Anything else to say? I liked it. It was good, good fun, good moustaches.
Starting point is 01:27:39 Yeah, great moustaches. All about the place. Who do you think would be a good John Watson to a- Oh, because he doesn't have a Watson, does he? Right. Because he's like, I work alone. He'd also have to be British and enormous, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:51 Statham. Statham. But what do you do like an even taller but rangier guy? Do you do like a Stephen Merchant? Stephen Merchant would definitely work. Because they need to offset a little bit, you know what I mean? Yeah. It can't be like the same.
Starting point is 01:28:03 But I guess you reverse it, I guess. Like generally speaking, Watson is short and stocky. Yes. And Sherlock is tall and rangy. But I guess. Whatever. Yeah, whatever. That's right, yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:16 Yeah, Stephen Merchant would be good. Yeah. Speaking of Stephen Merchant, I watched The Girl and the Spider's Web. Which one's that? Which is the, you know, the girl with the dragon tattoo. Is that a sequel? Yeah, it's one of the sequels to that except they've recast. Everybody?
Starting point is 01:28:27 Yes, everybody. So it's Claire Foy from The Crown instead of whoever it was, Numi Rupes. Is it better than the other remake of it with Daniel Craig? Oh, it's a sequel to that. Yes. Is it better than that? I think it is better than that.
Starting point is 01:28:38 I think this was from 2018. Yeah. But I think they've shifted it more towards an action. Maybe I should watch that. It's – Is it like those Morgan Freeman, Along Came a Spider kind of movies? Remember those? Yeah, I remember those, yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:54 Ashley Judd was always in them. She was always in them. I love Ashley Judd. It's more action-paced and I think that's because it's based on one of the novels that was released after the original author's death. Okay. So I think they're like, well, now these are popular, better make them, you know.
Starting point is 01:29:06 Jazzy. Jazzy and zippy, you know what I mean? Yeah, I hear what you're saying. It's pretty solid and it's got Lakeith Stanfield in it. Oh, cool. That's a good cast. It's good. Who directed that?
Starting point is 01:29:16 I don't know. That's crazy. Probably somebody Dutch or something. Wherever she's from, this character. Yeah, wherever she's from, this character. Is she Dutch in the movie? Yes, it's still set in. set in Holland or Finland or the Netherlands. I don't know, somewhere.
Starting point is 01:29:30 Yeah, it's a great question though, isn't it? Yeah. All right. So do we want to talk about the boys or we'll talk about it when it's done? Let's maybe talk about it when it's done. Okay. You're still boys and along? Still boys and along.
Starting point is 01:29:42 What else did I watch this week? I'm about to watch that. It's the documentary about the game console wars. High Score? Yeah. I've written that down. No, not that. That's a different one.
Starting point is 01:29:52 This is called Console Wars. Oh, my God. High Score is a different one on Netflix, which is cool as well. I talked about that on Suggestible, my less successful podcast. Oh, yes. I do with my wife, Claire, that it does cover like your big things, like your Mario versus Sonic or whatever. Then it will be like this person who was part of the gay community
Starting point is 01:30:09 in the 80s, you know, who was kind of being – the AIDS epidemic was rife and the government wasn't doing anything about it. He made this like point-and-click adventure, which was a fun underground game that like made fun of these like religious bigots. Oh, interesting. And that became like – so it does stuff like that. And then it will be like Mario versus Sonic. This is high score. This is high score, yeah. So it's really
Starting point is 01:30:28 interesting like the eras and the people that it touches upon. So it's not just like and then there was the Atari crash and they buried all the ETs in the desert. Like, yeah, we fucking know! We know. We all know that now. That's right. They dug it up. Yeah. We know.
Starting point is 01:30:44 Yeah. Anyway, so yeah, it's right. They dug it up. Yeah. We know. Yeah. Anyway, so, yeah, it's cool. I like it. Anyway, anything else? Oh, I read a bunch of Batman the Shadow comics. I don't know how I got onto that, but I'm just like, I'm going to read every Batman the Shadow crossover. Batman, like, the gun is a weapon of a coward, and the Shadow's like, well, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.
Starting point is 01:31:01 Exactly right, yeah. It's sort of like I'm going to look it up for you, James. I there's like i'm gonna i'm gonna look it up for you james i love looking up i'm gonna look it up but they're really very good they're i i'm are these new 2017 ish okay uh but there's one about him by scott snyder did the writing on uh on one of them oh okay cool all right i'm all on board for that. Yeah. And it's great in that they've sort of evolved the character of the shadow. Like he's still alive. Like they said in the modern day.
Starting point is 01:31:31 Why is he still alive? Ghost powers? Yeah, ghost powers. But he's like he's outlived all of his like allies and most of his enemies and he's just become this like unrelenting force of justice but he's not human anymore really. Yeah, right. Because he's gone too weird.
Starting point is 01:31:45 Is he still got that knife? Ah, the knife is involved. That's what I want, the cranky knife. The cranky knife is involved at some point. Great. And that kind of, we always talk about how maybe the era of that and adapting those is kind of past. Yes.
Starting point is 01:31:59 This version of the shadow kind of, I'm like this feels fresh and modern even though he's a character from a different era. I'm like, this is cool. You could do it for real then. I don't know. I don't know if it would translate, but it's kind of, I don't know. I like the weirdness of it. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 01:32:13 Kind of surreal and it's more mystical and it's not just, oh my God. So you could do it outside of Batman then as well, right? I think you could, yeah. Yeah, okay, cool. So do you bring back Alec Baldwin and you do it? Yes. Okay. My God, yes.
Starting point is 01:32:24 I think Batman the Shadow, the murder genius is what it's called. I'm going to check that out, I hope. Yeah. Or say I will and then forget. Murderers come to Gotham City and Lamont Cranston appears to be the culprit, but he's been dead for over 50 years. Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. Spoiler, he's not.
Starting point is 01:32:38 He's the Shadow. Did he do the murders? No. But he does do murders, doesn't he? Oh, heaps. Yeah. Just stacks of them. Yeah, he loves it.
Starting point is 01:32:45 Cool. Next. Bang, bang, bang, bang. Bang, bang, murders, doesn't he? Oh, heaps. Yeah. Just stacks of them. Yeah, he loves it. Cool. Next. Bang, bang, bang, bang. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. That's the weapon of the coward, actually. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. It's actually really embarrassing what you're doing. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.
Starting point is 01:32:56 Jeez, he is getting results, though, isn't he? I mean, he's really mowing through those guys. He's really just mowing. I mean, I usually put them in jail and then a week later they escape from jail. Those guys are not getting out of jail. They're definitely not. They're dead. They're dead men. Maybe I should rethink my
Starting point is 01:33:13 no-gun stance. Should we do the next segment of the show? The letters segment? Yeah, I think we should. That's what I'm about. I'll play the theme of the letters segment. The classic one was the letters of letters. We love you some letters. They're only a day away. I know they're here right now.
Starting point is 01:33:30 We're going to do letters. Bang, bang, bang, bang. Bang, bang. What was that topic? I cannot. I was trying to find it. I can't. What's that?
Starting point is 01:33:37 The topic that I have. The topic for next week. It's not even going to, might not even do it. Okay, great. It was like franchise, oh, this is what it was. Go on. It was franchise starters. Okay, great. It was like franchise. Oh, this is what it was. Go on. It was franchise starters. Oh, right.
Starting point is 01:33:47 And we've done a video on it, but like we've never talked about Eragon. That's true. I've also never seen Eragon. Maybe we could watch Eragon. Maybe next week we'll just do an in-depth dive on the movie Eragon. No. And the Golden Compass. Yes, that one we have talked about, again, though I haven't seen it.
Starting point is 01:34:03 That's a series now, isn't it? Yes. His Dark Materials. That's right. Mason, if you want to reach the show, you're in it. You can just bring it up here. But for others, hashtag weeklyplanetpod on Twitter or weeklyplanetpod at gmail.com. That's correct. That's very correct. Shoot us through some things. Here's one. This is from John Grayson. Hello, John Grayson.
Starting point is 01:34:20 I just spent last week in hospital having my third brain cancer surgery. Admit it. 11th. Dis it. 11th. Discharged. 18th. Listened to Planet Broadcasting. Helped keep me sane during the week. Here's a photo of the lovely scar. That's it.
Starting point is 01:34:31 It's big. It's a big-ass scar. It's a big one. Big old shaved patch. Third one. Bloody hell. But it went well, though, it seems. The pathology results came in, and best news possible, low-grade still.
Starting point is 01:34:41 Fuck yeah. It's from John. Thank you, John. Good work, John. Yeah, good job. Good surviving. Yes. Loving that. I'm loving that. I'm also loving that.grade still. Fuck yeah. It's from John. Thank you, John. Good work, John. Yeah, good job. Good surviving. Yes. Loving that.
Starting point is 01:34:47 I'm loving that. I'm also loving that. I'm very, yeah. I mean, he said listening to Planet Broadcasting kept me sane. Oh. Not the weekly Planet specifically. But he did email this one. Or was he emailing everybody?
Starting point is 01:34:57 Maybe email, oh, my God. Did he CC in everybody? Oh, my God. What if Think Tank next week, they're like. Those dogs. Oh, my God. What a. No, but that's very promising. Absolutely it is. That's really good news.
Starting point is 01:35:10 It's nice to have some good news. It's lovely to have good news. I did ask for one good thing. That's right. There we go. It's from Ari Katz. Who do you think should be the villain in the She-Hulk series? Personally, I think Modok would be a great fit. People are Modok mad at the moment because, you know, he's in that video game or whatever. That's right. I think Modok is be a great fit. People are Modok mad at the moment because, you know,
Starting point is 01:35:26 he's in that video game or whatever. That's right. I think Modok is a good fit. Do you go smart or do you go someone to punch with She-Hulk? Ooh. I mean, Modok is someone smart and someone to punch also. That's right. He does it all. That's right.
Starting point is 01:35:38 Yeah. Big floating punching bag. I think she's going to need a foe in the courtroom and a foe on the streets, and they don't have to be the same person necessarily because I don't think there are many evil lawyers who are also supervillains. There probably is. There's probably tons.
Starting point is 01:35:55 But I can't think of one immediately. But it could be like a corporate lawyer defending a supervillain and then at the end she just leaps to the bench and punches them. Maybe. Both are lawyers. Yeah, that's right. But I like the idea of MOD leaps the bench and punches them. Maybe. Both alone. Yeah, that's right. But I like the idea of MODOK. I think that's a good choice.
Starting point is 01:36:08 Do you have another email, Mason? I will look for another email right now. I've got one. Bring one over, yeah. It's from the true Mad Hatter. Okay. Next week you should do movies that were supposed to be more than one movie, but thank God they made one movie.
Starting point is 01:36:24 I'm looking at you, Eragon. Whoa, hello. So I put that in knowing that I'd probably forget and I did. We should cover that though. This is from Nathan Hastie, a listener from Australia. G'day James and Maceo. Authentic. G'day.
Starting point is 01:36:39 Since you're now going to get a flood of listeners from different countries while riding after Trinidad and Uruguay I thought I'd write to let you know that I'm from your own backyard, Australia. Yeah. As an Australian, it's actually so nice to hear my own accent on air and get all the local references. Too right. Too right.
Starting point is 01:36:54 I like to think of myself as part of the smaller community of listeners who don't think you both sound strange. You actually sound really normal. Keep up the great work, Nathan Hastie. Gold Coast. No, I'm just kidding you Nathan
Starting point is 01:37:05 Gold Coast is alright PS if you could send an automatic reply from the email that would be a bloody ripper what do we got we got love it yep
Starting point is 01:37:11 we've got haha that's awesome yep and we've got haha thanks we need the what's the weirdest one none of those are particularly weird
Starting point is 01:37:17 I like haha that's awesome yeah these are getting better okay I'm gonna I'm gonna send that one very good stuff nice and sent and sent and done there we go great I think that's the show then unless you've got another email I'm going to send that one. Very good stuff. Nice. And sent.
Starting point is 01:37:25 And sent and done. There we go. Great. I think that's the show then unless you've got another email. That's all the emails we've got this week. Fantastic. Two emails. Two emails.
Starting point is 01:37:33 We didn't talk about Quibi this week. Oh, yeah, they sold it. They're selling Quibi. No one bought it. Ben Willems has said, why is Quibi? If anybody- Quibi is now free in New Zealand and Australia. Maybe a deep dive is in order for an upcoming episode.
Starting point is 01:37:43 Yeah, I guess. I don't- I mean, this is, if you're like a corporate company and no one is listening to this, obviously, but like don't buy it. What are you buying it for? The content? Quibi doesn't even own it. Also the brand recognition? It's garbage.
Starting point is 01:37:57 If you're looking to start a streaming service, just make a new one. Don't buy this piece of shit, right? Right? Anyway, that's just my take on it. We've never deep-dived on it. Maybe I love the golden arm. Maybe. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:13 Is that the show, though? That's the whole show. Thank you, everybody, so much for listening. I hope everybody's doing all right out there. Everybody's brains are... Not mush. All in their heads and doing good. I'm very happy to hear that.
Starting point is 01:38:23 Look forward to some Mission Impossible 3 action this week, Mason. That's right. I haven't done the stunt yet. I've been putting it off for some good weather, but I'm not looking forward to it, Mason. This week, James' stunt is he's going to lie in a deck chair and just enjoy some sun. My God, I would love that.
Starting point is 01:38:38 That's very unlike me too. That's right. Thank you, everybody, for listening and telling a friend and subscribing and leaving a nice review. James, you got one? I've got a couple of nice reviews, Mason. It helps so much because you just do it in app. This is from John Cole.
Starting point is 01:38:51 He says, I read a comment, you're shooting up your butthole. These two are beautiful human beings that I'm not cool enough to hang out with in real life. That's probably almost certainly not true. Yeah, plus we've been hanging out all the time. I'm hanging out with all the listeners. That's right. Didn't you know that?
Starting point is 01:39:02 I'm hanging out with all the listeners. I've been hanging out with them all day. You're hanging out with them after the show as well, aren't you? After the show, during the show, somehow there, just now, yeah? It's great. This pod gives me the opportunity to be in the room with them during wild rants and fair-minded analysis. They invite strangers into their friendship
Starting point is 01:39:15 and I, for one, feel blessed to be included. Thank you very much. That's very nice. And this one is from the great mate book nerd. Don't hate with an eight to this pod, but the hate has an eight in it. So, yeah, five stars. Really helps the show. Really appreciate it.

Starting point is 01:41:28 I don't even know at this point. But thank you for watching this. We really appreciate listening to this. I'm really tired. I didn't get much sleep, Mason. Like at the end, I'm like, oh, my God, my brain. Because you had two kids? Because of my two kids.
Starting point is 01:41:37 Yeah. Yeah. But also, you know, just sleep in general and looking at Twitter and being like, shake my head a bit. And also your wife reads World War Z to you while you sleep. That's right. Those homies are coming for your flesh, she says. You think they are?
Starting point is 01:41:49 Yeah, almost. Boo! All right, I'll see you guys next week. See you guys. We'll see you real soon. Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye.
