Starting point is 00:00:00 FX's The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. FX's The Veil, starring Elizabeth Moss, is now streaming on Disney+. This podcast is part of the Planet Broadcasting Network. Visit planetbroadcasting.com for more podcasts from our great mates. Welcome back, everybody, to another episode of The Weekly Planet, where we talk movies and comics and TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday.
Starting point is 00:00:48 With me, as always, is my co-host, Mr. New Year Nick Mason. His new name. When's 2021 going to be over? It's on the lottery, honestly. That's a great question, Mason. Isn't it, though? Are you one of those people who are like, fresh start, yeah, fuck 2020? Or are you one of those people who are like, well, you know,
Starting point is 00:01:01 all the problems of this society that actually, they don't just stop at an arbitrary date. Which one are you? There are two wolves inside me, James. One of which is the first one and one is the second one. No, it's, you know, I think a state of mind is important. I agree. I think a lot of the problems are still here, but I think it's good to have a reset.
Starting point is 00:01:21 I mean, I didn't because I was at work over all of Christmas in the year. Sure, so you didn't even feel like anything changed. There wasn't like a countdown. Nobody hugged you. You're just on your own in a tram in an empty city. Yeah, basically. Yeah. But it's all about the mental attitude. That's what I'm saying. I'm with you 100%. It sounds, to me, that's lonely. Like that's awful and lonely. But to you. But to me, that sounds like it would be great for you, completely alone. Actually, it would be great for me.
Starting point is 00:01:47 We should have swapped New Year's. Yeah. Oh, well, next year. Anyway, I hope everybody had a happy New Year's. And whichever wolf you're feeding, just keep it well fed. You know what I mean? Keep it going. I hope some positive things are coming your way.
Starting point is 00:02:00 This is, I was going to say, our last episode of the year. I bloody wish, mate. We've got so many. This will be the last episode before we take a break. That's exactly right. And we'll be back on, I think it might be actually the 25th is a Monday, but we'll probably be back on the 26th because Monday is a public holiday. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:15 But here it is. It's not everywhere else. Or it's the Tuesdays. I don't know. It's probably going to be the 26th. We don't have any answers for you. No, we don't. It's the real truth.
Starting point is 00:02:23 But we will be back. There will be a best of episode that's coming out next week as well. Collings puts that together, who edits this. He does it every year and he does an amazing job. Then there'll be like a couple weeks break or a week break or whatever. But if you go to bigsandwich.co... There's no break. There's no break.
Starting point is 00:02:38 It keeps going. There'll be some stuff going up on YouTube from some other YouTube channels, some of the stuff I'm just recycling, mate. Just pushing it out. So if you like old'm just recycling, mate. Yeah, great. So if you like old stuff. Yeah, man. Yeah, nice. That's how we're doing it. It's going to be a January of golden hits is basically what's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Exactly. Stuff you've seen and don't want to see again. But you'll have the opportunity. That's exactly right. I like this week we have a third host because the calendar I've purchased, the 007 No Time to Die calendar, it's not on the wall. It's just in one of the extra seats. It's sitting in.
Starting point is 00:03:06 It's just sitting in. Daniel Craig is looking disapprovingly on what we do here. He's like, I'm saving Queen and country. What are you doing? We're doing a podcast. We're doing a podcast, man. Come on. He's not the kind of Bond that would do a podcast.
Starting point is 00:03:20 The next Bond would have done a podcast. Who's the next Bond? Whoever the next guy is or girl or whatever. So, yeah. James, James, can you imagine, though, James Bond on a podcast? I think it would sound a little something like this. I'm drunk. I don't want to be here.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Why are you doing this? I'm trying to keep a low profile. Yeah, I'm supposed to be undercover if I'm honest. Also, I'm dressed really well but nobody can see it and I feel like that's a really big staple of my personality and who I am. Yeah, it kind of defines me actually because I don't have what you would call a real personality. I'm just sort of a man with a gun and a too tight suit.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Sometimes maybe like a ski vest or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what I'm all about. I'm seasonal. Yeah. Also, maybe they'd be like, maybe he gets the word from MI6 and they're just like, you have to be on a podcast. And he's like, you know, actually, I've got a lot of cool stories
Starting point is 00:04:21 about like driving fast cars and embedding women and shooting guns and that time i parkoured through a wall like that's all fun stuff and they're like no no no you have to maintain cover so you have to be james bond employee of export company universal exports so you're gonna have to talk about you're gonna have to talk about logistics and conveyancing he's like but why am i doing this That's part of your very elaborate cover. You normally don't have a very elaborate cover. You normally just tell people who you are. We're going to change that.
Starting point is 00:04:53 You've been doing this for years and you haven't actually learned about any of the logistics. So you're going to have to – he's a big folder about all our imports and exports. You're going to have to learn a lot about sardines or whatever. Whatever you're supposed to do because normally you walk in and you go, hi, my friends call me James Bond and I'm a spy but don't tell anyone. You need to stop doing that.
Starting point is 00:05:10 That's right. Anyway, we've only got like a few bits of news and then we're going to get on the best and worst of 2020. The famous Weekly Planet Awards of 2020. They're so famous. Very famous. They're very famous. So here we go.
Starting point is 00:05:23 We're going to kick it off with some Wonder Woman 3 news because that has been fast-tracked by Warner Brothers. Off the back of Wonder Woman 1984 hitting 100 million worldwide. Not a great return in China. The last one did really well. This one didn't. Who knows why? It's really strange because Soul apparently
Starting point is 00:05:40 did really well, but Soul has got that thing that apparently... Ghosts. Ghosts, which is a thing that China like or don't like. Maybe they've come around on ghosts. I don't know. So Soul's done really well there. Have we made that up? No, I think it's a thing.
Starting point is 00:05:53 It's been a thing of like, maybe it's not of late. But also China's changed in terms of blockbusters because now they make their own blockbusters. That's true. The two biggest movies of the year, like box office revenue-wise, are from China. Homegrown, yeah. From those videos that we made.
Starting point is 00:06:05 We briefly talked about them because we didn't watch them. So Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot are on board, but of course she's got to do Rogue Squadron first, unless Lucasfilm kick her off, which they might do. Do you think so? I don't know. I don't think for this one, but maybe. But I mean, it's a Star Wars movie and Disney are notoriously something, aren't they?
Starting point is 00:06:28 I think I crunched the numbers a few directors back. What do you work for, Universal Exports? That's where I went for. I'm crunching the numbers. I've got a podcast. And it was like 50-50. So if you're signed on, there's a 50% chance you'll make that movie. Yeah, wow.
Starting point is 00:06:42 But I don't know. Because they'll find something that doesn't sit right with them. But I think things seem to have shifted over at Lucasfilm. I don't know what that is or even if that's true, but it seems like they want to tell this particular story. Anyway, but they did get 554,000 sign-ups to HBO Max. I think that was just the app and not like just on the phone and not on other stuff, which is good.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Not on the other stuff like internet fridge. No, and all those kinds of things. Exactly. But Disney got. I wonder if they know. I wonder if they do know. Are the people still doing internet fridges really? I think they are.
Starting point is 00:07:17 I don't know if they are. It's just a tablet like locked into the fridge that you can't remove. Okay, but it's cold. Yes. You know when you're touching a cold can't remove. Okay, but it's cold. Yes. You know when you're touching a cold tablet, you're like, mmm. Very cold. It doesn't get warm on your lap or whatever, whatever you're up to with your tablet.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Yeah, the cat stays off it. The cat stays off it. Because it's cold. But cats, you know, they're good at crazy things. I've seen videos. But so Disney got 2.3 million subscribers. Oh, that's a lot more. A lot more. But also I think Disney is more.3 million subscribers. Well, that's a lot more. A lot more.
Starting point is 00:07:47 But also I think Disney is more well-established. People know what Disney Plus is, but with HBO it's like there's HBO Max and HBO Go and also HBO Max is only in the US. It is, yeah. So I don't know. They really need to make that global. I don't know. I'm sure it's like a contract thing and they probably get more money, but if they want to build it, I would stop doing that.
Starting point is 00:08:04 I can absolutely see it becoming prevalent in every country except Australia. Oh, yeah. Where we have some weird ironclad contracts with some different. It's Murdoch. Yeah. Okay, Universal X Pod is what it's called. That's what it would be called. I'm not letting this go.
Starting point is 00:08:17 You don't have to let it go. I'm with you on this. I'm 100%. I hope when it's open with the next episode in like a few weeks, we're just straight into it. It's just incomprehensible to new listeners. They're like the next episode in like a few weeks we're just straight into it it's just incomprehensible to new listeners they're like oh my god oh we're gonna do it yeah we're gonna do it okay okay but we're not any of the named characters in the james bond movies we're just two guys yeah who got really good at being we are mi6 but we we got too good at being
Starting point is 00:08:40 like part of the front company and so they kept like, they're like no assassin mission this week. You've got to do, you've got to do some paperwork. And then eventually like a year in, we're like, we don't do any spy stuff. What happened to the spy stuff? We're the opposite of James Bond. We do the things that he doesn't do. But we're the best at it. We're the best in the world.
Starting point is 00:08:59 We're not that great, but we're better than everybody else. Exactly. Look, it doesn't matter whether we're good at it. It's just a front. It doesn't matter. No, there's the boss. Oh, we've got a boss? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Is he real or is he from MI6? He is an outside consultant. He's aware of what's going on. Like he's aware that this is a front company just for MI6, but he's like, no, we've got to maintain the key performance indicators because I'm- What, you'll fire me? I have a gun.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Probably. I don't know. Do I? Did they take it away? Yeah, they took it away. You have a spreadsheet. Well, that's fire me? I have a gun. Probably. I don't know. Do I? Did they take it away? Yeah, they took it away. You have a spreadsheet. Well, that's good too, I guess. The New York Times are reporting that Batgirl and Static Shock
Starting point is 00:09:33 may be coming to HBO Max. Oh. Those movies. So there you go. Not a surprise because they dumped everything on there. So why not these new things? Why not these hypothetical things that haven't started being produced yet? Joss Whedon was doing one at some point.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Static Shock is Michael B. Jordan, right? Yes. He's producing it. He's producing it, yeah. I don't think he'd be Static Shock. No, he's not going to be him, sorry. But he's probably got an uncle, though, or whatever. I maintain he's going to be Icon, which is the one we mentioned.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That would be cool. Which is like the Milestone Superman character. And I haven't actually got this here, but he is directing Creed 3. So Creed 3 is happening. So I watched Creed 2 the other day. I like Creed 2. It might be my favourite of Creed movies.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Is it your favourite of Rocky movies? Rocky Cinematic Universe? It's up there. It would be top three, I would say. How many of those movies are there? How many movies? Eight? Seven or eight?
Starting point is 00:10:21 Yeah, I think there's eight. Yeah, they did five and then there was Rocky Balboa and then the two creeds, yeah. Okay, great, great, great, great. Great stuff. But it had the Dragos in it. I think that's what I like about it. They're the Drago boys.
Starting point is 00:10:32 That's true, yeah. So I think that first creed, even though I really kind of lacked that kind of villain, they had like a realistic boxer, which they do every now and then. They bring in a little boxer, and they're never as scary as like a fake terrifying Russian boxer. You know what I mean? They're not sweaty enough. They're not sweaty enough. They bring in a little boxer and they're never as scary as like a fake terrifying Russian boxer. You know what I mean? They're not sweaty enough.
Starting point is 00:10:47 They're not sweaty enough. They're not glistening and... No. And they're not built like... A fake boxer. A fake boxer, which is not how you should really be as a boxer. Anyway, so in other news, the Telegraph are saying that... Well, no, Richard Donner spoke to the Telegraph
Starting point is 00:11:01 and he is going to direct Lethal Weapon 5. I didn't know Richard Donner was still alive. He's still alive. I'll tell you his age in a minute. But this is the final one. It's both my privilege and duty to put it to bed. Lethal Weapon. Lethal Weapon.
Starting point is 00:11:14 I can imagine him just like smothering it with a pillow. Oh, no. I have to put it down. I have to put it to bed. That's what he means. Oh, dear. Yeah. It's exciting, actually.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Ha, ha, ha. It's the last one. This is the quote. Ha, ha, ha. It's the last one. This is the quote. I'll promise you that. They promised the last one was the last one, didn't they? And then they had a TV series. And they had a TV series around for three seasons. Which everybody walked off the set of or something.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Something. Everybody got fired. I don't know what's going on. Everybody wasn't happy about it. Anyway, guess how old he is. You can guess. I'll tell you. 85.
Starting point is 00:11:41 90. Wow. Yeah, which is close. You were close. Is he the oldest director ever? How old is Eastwood? He'd have to be nearly 90. Oh, which is close. You were close. Is he the oldest director ever? How old is Eastwood? He'd have to be nearly 90. Oh, that's a good point, actually.
Starting point is 00:11:48 I don't think he's 90 yet, but let's have a look. No, he's 90. Clint Eastwood is also 90. Wow. Oh. A little bit of competition. Wow. I think it seems that way, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:58 That's incredible. 90 is not 90 like it used to be. Sure, yeah. 90 is like your eyes are watering and you don't know what you're looking at or where you are. Like it used to be that. Now you get nine-year-old guys directing action blockbusters. I mean, your eyes are still watering and you don't know where you are, but you're in that chair with a little cardboard bullhorn.
Starting point is 00:12:15 You've got the beret on. They've given you all the accessories. That's all you need. And in front of you is the second unit director who's doing all the actual directing. You've maintained over the years or some period of time that what does a director really do? Don't know. It depends on the set and their involvement.
Starting point is 00:12:30 It depends what kind of movie it is. Yeah, exactly. So I don't know. That's really cool. Because Richard Donner, of course, well, famously did the first Superman and then some of the second. Yes. And then got to redo it.
Starting point is 00:12:40 But he's done a bunch of like amazing stuff. So yeah, why not? Wait, did he direct Lethal Weapon movies? He did. It was created by Shane Black. Yeah. But he directed them all, I think. Huh.
Starting point is 00:12:53 I can look into it. Please do. They're all the same movie as well. If you've ever seen them, they're all the same movie. But they do get wackier. Yes. There's more kung fu by the fourth one. Does this mean that Mel Gibson and Danny Glover
Starting point is 00:13:05 are back? Yeah, everyone's back. Rene Russo, Pesci, Chris Tucker. Jet Li? No, he got killed by a bulldozer or something. Doesn't matter, bring him back. His spirit went into the bulldozer. He's on the front of the bulldozer. He's in the scoop.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Sounds good to me. So what do we got here? He's parkouring over buildings as a bulldozer. So, yeah, he did The Goonies. He did Ladyhawk. He did Scrooge. He did Radio Fly. He did Maverick. He did Conspiracy Theory.
Starting point is 00:13:34 A lot of Mel Gibson work there. He did Timeline. I think it was a Paul Walker movie. Terrific. I might be wrong. And 16 Blocks was the last movie he directed, which was in 2006. And this one's called Lethal Finale. I don't like that.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Well, you're going to have to like it. You're going to have to get used to it. Yes. Surely that's a working title. No. Lethal Finale. What's wrong with that? I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:13:58 What would you prefer? Also, it doesn't leave the door open for any sequels, which is what I love. Well, that's what he said. He was very clear that he was going to kill it with a pillow. No, I want a Lethal Weapon 6. Okay, fair enough. God, I hope they bring in young characters. Lethal Weapon 6, six times the charm, colon Jet Leaser Bulldozer.
Starting point is 00:14:16 He's back again. He's back again, yeah. Well, they're doing it at Fast and Furious style, where he's their friend now. Okay. And there's a new villain. Okay, that sounds good. By the way, there's time codes if people want to jump over
Starting point is 00:14:26 the lethal weapon conversation, which is completely understandable. Or if you wanted to skip the weird MI6 podcast conversation. Or you can jump back to the start of the MI6 conversation. You want to relive it all over again. That's fine as well. But how much lethal weapon stuff can you put in it really? Because like Mel Gibson, he's crazy and he's trying to pop his shoulder back in or whatever, he's crazy and he's trying to pop his shoulder back in or whatever
Starting point is 00:14:45 because he's... Well, yeah. What defines a Lethal Weapon movie besides Mel Gibson's crazy? And Danny Glover wants to retire. Yeah. Just a movie where Danny Glover swore he'd retire at the end of Lethal Weapon 4 and he's still on the force for some reason. They can't be on the force at this point.
Starting point is 00:15:04 What if they are? I think Mel Gibson could be, like on the tail end. Yeah, right. Danny Glover, no. He'd have to go and go, we've got one more case or whatever and there's another bomb on your toilet or whatever. That's how he opens the door. We've got another case or whatever and there's another bomb.
Starting point is 00:15:18 So it's a series of very unlikely coincidences which leaves them both in a room, Mel Gibson's in a straight jacket and Danny Glover's back on the toilet. If you've seen them, though, they're all the same. The slogan used to be the magic is back again. They say that every time? Yeah, well, for one of at least maybe like three, I think, the magic is back again. Three's the worst one.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Yeah, so maybe it's the bomb on the toilet is back again. Went into the spirit of a bulldozer. But, yeah, because every movie the bad guys kidnap Danny Glover's family. They've got the same, like, rhythm, all of them. Anyway. Whatever. So maybe this is we come back, you know, in 2021 or 2022 or whatever and it's just in between four and five,
Starting point is 00:16:07 it's every week his family's being kidnapped. So they've just got like a family guidebook or like there's a lot of like houses, there's like maybe like a notice board or a blackboard or something like that. People put their shopping list or whatever. It's just a list of rules for when you get kidnapped every week. It's like don't forget this.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Dishes and then get kidnapped. Yeah. One more bit of news. We're light on this week, but Resident Evil has finished filming for its 2021 release. Wow. It's a reboot. Johannes Roberts, who did 47 Meters Down,
Starting point is 00:16:41 who's directing it, and all right, I guess. Pretty great. Pretty great. Pretty great. Yeah, terrific. Good on them. Yeah. Did they film mostly indoors? Is this a grand screen situation?
Starting point is 00:16:51 I guess it must be. It must be, right? Yeah. So I think they're doing the whole Raccoon City first game thing, et cetera, and so forth. There was that news as well. I was going to put it in, but I guess I'm putting it in. James, you're putting it in now, aren't you?
Starting point is 00:17:02 Mark Hamill was like, what an opportunity to return as Luke Skywalker. It's a gift I never thought I'd get or whatever. Oh, I did see that, yeah, yeah, yeah. Good on him. That's cool. And fuck everything else that he's done in any other movies. Well, he did say, oh, this is for the true fans. But I think when he, and a lot of people have taken a lot out of that,
Starting point is 00:17:20 just him saying, well, what he means there is he hates The Last Jedi. But I think what he meant was true fans. I think he does hate The Last Jedi. Oh, probably. I don't know. But I would assume that when he says true fans, he just means everybody. Yeah. I don't think he's trying to alienate anybody.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Yeah. Or he is. Yeah. I mean, he's done it with those Uber Eats ads. Oh, yeah, with Shatner or whatever. No, with Patrick Stewart. It's Shatner, isn't it? No.
Starting point is 00:17:44 I'm pretty sure it's Shatner. It is not. Let's go to it. Maybe he's done It's Shatner, isn't it? No. I'm pretty sure it's Shatner. It is not. Let's Google it. Maybe he's done one with Shatner, but the one I keep seeing is the one with Patrick Stewart. I'm pretty sure. Well, all right, let's both Google. This might be one of those Mandela effect situations.
Starting point is 00:17:58 So, James, what you're saying is that rather than making the leap that you have simply misremembered one Star Trek captain for another Star Trek captain, you're saying that you have instead slipped into an alternate universe somehow. I must have. Yeah, yeah, because you are right, and I just think that that's not true. So you've come from a parallel universe in which Mark Hamill's done some Uber Eats ads with William Shatner. I must have.
Starting point is 00:18:24 Yeah, right. Doesn't that sound right to you? Why else would I be wrong? If you could think of any other explanation. Have you noticed any other differences? Do you think this reality is about the same? The calendar. The calendar's 16 months.
Starting point is 00:18:36 In my dimension, calendars are 12 months. Whoa, wow. Wow. Well, you must have had a real brisk 2020 because it's been super duper long over here. I was 100% sure that was right there and I was not. FX's The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London.
Starting point is 00:19:03 lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. FX's The Veil, starring Elizabeth Moss, is now streaming on Disney+. Okay, so we're up to the Weekly Planet Awards. That's true. Big thank you to Collings for putting this together. He puts out the polls. Well, it's a series of polls within a larger – it's a survey.
Starting point is 00:19:27 You guys know what a survey is, don't you? I don't need to explain it to you. Email in if you don't know what a survey is. We'd love to break it down for you. But it looks as if – I'm just looking at how many – so we've got – Because we've got some live results happening right now. We do. We've got – well, Collings actually done a very recent tally,
Starting point is 00:19:42 but we've got 2,704 results. So we're going to go through each category. Mason and I will give our opinions, and then we'll reveal the results of the people who voted. The real results. The real fans. That's right. You know what I mean? So that's exciting.
Starting point is 00:19:56 I love this time of year because I love movies. You know what I love also in this is when somebody puts in another, which I enjoy, because it's like, what's the best movie of the year? And somebody throws us a curveball, which is always good. Yeah, but often it's like podcast dog or whatever. You know what I mean? It's like, what's in a movie? I'll show you what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:20:12 I haven't actually looked at them yet, but I can do that. That's what we're doing right now, isn't it? That is correct. Okay, here we go. Best movie that should have come out this year. Would you like me to read through them? So this is unreleased movies. Unreleased movies.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Okay, I'm ready. A Quiet Place 2, Avatar 2. I think that was already delayed. But Black Widow, Death on the Nile, Dune or is it Dune, Eternals, Fast and Furious 9, Free Guy, Godzilla vs. Kong. God, this is a lot. Ghostbusters Afterlife, Halloween Kills, Jungle Cruise, The King's Man, Morbius,
Starting point is 00:20:47 No Time to Die, Spiral, Colin from the Book of Saw, Raya and the Last Dragon, Top Gun Loser, Uncharted, Venom 2, Colin, Let There Be Carnage, and presumably others. But those are the top picks. Those are the big
Starting point is 00:21:03 dogs that did not. Which of those for you? Uh-huh. There's a few of these I don't really care about. Okay. There's quite a few of these I don't care about. I think you're going to say Dune. I might say Dune, but I'm also looking around here and I'm going, Book of Spiral?
Starting point is 00:21:17 Spiral? Do I want to see Spiral? No, when was the last time you saw a Saw movie? Like 100 million years ago. I saw the first one, and then I skipped all of them and then I saw Jigsaw. And it made perfect sense? Yeah, it made perfect sense, exactly.
Starting point is 00:21:29 For me, I think it might be Eternals. I was going to say Eternals, but I'm going to say Dune. You're right. You're right. I'm from a parallel dimension where I also wanted to see the movie Dune. And you're from that parallel universe where there haven't been any Marvel movies. That's right. Iron Man flopped hard in 2008, so it's been 12 years of just desolation.
Starting point is 00:21:45 What would this world look like? What did this podcast look like? I bet it would all- If we couldn't lean hard on Marvel movies. It must be like Independence Day sequels or something. I don't know. I don't know, Mason. I'm going to say Dune, but let's see what the results are of people who, the real fans.
Starting point is 00:21:59 They also say Dune, the 32%, followed by Black Widow at 18%. Then No Time to Die, Eternals. Quiet Place 2 gets a look in at 8%. Interesting. That's a top five. There you go. But then, you know, the top result, Bloodshot. What? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:16 So did they not see it and wanted to see it? What dimension am I in? What's happening? Were there any other results that people have tacked on? Have you got in front of you? I don't have any in front of me now, but James, I could get them right now. I'd love you to. Okay, I'm going to get them.
Starting point is 00:22:30 What do you got? For what? Extra results. Just bloodshot. That's it? No, I'm just kidding. People are like, man, I really wish this came out. I really wish bloodshot came out during the pandemic, they said.
Starting point is 00:22:42 So it didn't. It's getting a sequel. It's getting a sequel. It's getting a sequel. Next up, best comic book movie. Yep. More here than you'd think. Do you have the list or do you want me to do the list? I do have the list, James.
Starting point is 00:22:52 I'll do the list. Let's do a list. Okay, let's do it. Best comic book movie. Yeah. Birds of Prey. Ooh. Bloodshot.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Ooh. Extraction. What? Is that based on a comic book? Let me check that. The New Mutants. The Old Guard. Wonder Woman 1984.
Starting point is 00:23:06 Now, so which of these would you immediately rule out? I was going to immediately rule out Birds of Prey because I'm like, that came out this year? It did. Did it? Yeah, very start of the year. I watched it after Wonder Woman 1984. I'm like, that's a good movie. It's better. It's way better than Wonder Woman 1984.
Starting point is 00:23:21 I liked it a lot. It's fun. Not just because it's ruder, although it's ruder. That's why I like it. Yeah, it was pretty rude. Yeah, I think we're on, not a lot of people did like it. I think we're in the minority of people who enjoyed it. But I am. Okay, now here's my question for you, James, and this is important.
Starting point is 00:23:35 I have important questions. What did you think was better, Wonder Woman 1984 or Bloodshot? I think Bloodshot was a better movie. No. What? I really like the Donna. Bloodshot was a better movie No I really like the Donner Bloodshot was nothing You know what I mean Like it wasn't doing anything
Starting point is 00:23:51 Okay yeah yeah But I can see what you're saying I don't have a strong argument though Well now that I say it also Maybe I didn't emphasise it enough When we talked about it last week But Pedro Pascal really chewed some scenery and I enjoyed that. I love how it was a new meme where he's like,
Starting point is 00:24:07 it could be better or whatever. Yeah, that is a good meme. A bloodshot hasn't spawned that many memes, has it? Also, to be fair, bloodshot, no exception. Aside from that meme that's like, not being exploded by a grenade, and he's like, hmm, but then it's like being exploded by a grenade, and he's like, yeah. You know that one?
Starting point is 00:24:21 I know that meme. It's really good. The classic bloodshot meme. Extraction is based on the comic book, A See, Dad, written by Anthony and Joe Russo. So it's written by the Russo brothers. Yes, but I think on the 2014 graphic novel. This is madness. I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:24:36 No, okay. No, I like the movie. So yeah, I'm going to definitely say Birds of Prey. But Wonder Woman, I had high expectations of. Especially because we just watched the first one as well and we're like, you know, I'm feeling good and I'm liking the vibe of this. But, yeah, I think if I took them separately and didn't know anything about them and watched them,
Starting point is 00:24:54 I would pick Wonder Woman. Guess what, James? As far as the results go, with 42%, number one, Birds of Prey. The listeners are like Birds of Prey. So I don't think we're in the minority as we thought. Well, according to all my comments on YouTube, that is not the case. It's too woke, people said. Because there's women in it.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Yeah, people who completely understand what woke means. Oh, and Harley Quinn isn't wearing the shorts. She's wearing different shorts. That is very woke. That aren't as short. That's true. Which is pretty, I mean, that's madness, isn't it? It's incredible.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Yeah, yeah. What else have we got? What have we got next? Yeah. I was going to say that, like, in the wake of Birds of Prey, people were like, why didn't all the characters wear their comic accurate costumes? I've photoshopped it up. Oh, that looks really terrible.
Starting point is 00:25:39 It's really terrible and you've just, like, painted over porn actors or whatever. Maybe because they didn't want to dress like that. Actually, to be fair, when they were all in costumes at the end, I was just like, maybe don't. Like maybe save it for the other movie we're not getting. Yeah. You know what I mean? I didn't think they did a very good job of that.
Starting point is 00:25:55 So those Photoshop's are all me. Yeah. Anyway, Bloodshot. Yeah. So New Mutants, did you want to give it any love? Yeah, that speech prepared. You practiced it before the podcast. I was like, don't interrupt me.
Starting point is 00:26:06 I've got, look. I said there are two demon bears in each of us. So that's four demon bears collectively. The bear that you feed turns into a giant bear, but the bear that you don't feed is a magic teleporting dragon. What happened to the other bear? There was another bear. I mean, if there's two bears. What happened to the other bear? There was another bear.
Starting point is 00:26:28 I mean, if there's two bears, what happened to the second bear? One bear ate the other bear, presumably. They were in utero and one absorbed the other. You know what I mean? I do know what you mean. Twins. That's like Professor Xavier's origin. Do you know that? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:38 He's brother or sister, whatever. What's her name? I don't care. The old guard was like, it was a Netflix movie, wasn't it? Like it felt like a Netflix movie. No, see, that's the thing. I think it was a cut above. It felt to me like a cut above.
Starting point is 00:26:50 Okay. I think that's more the cast than anything else. I think it was a good cast. All the performers. You know what it was? I think it was a good cast and I think that there was some stuff apparently in the script that was not allowed to be changed. Oh, that stuff I did like where he talks like that.
Starting point is 00:27:04 We did an episode where he talks about his husband. Yeah, yeah. But I think even apart from that, I think that the reason it was a cut above for me was there were, I mean, they changed a few things, but I think there were elements in it that they were like, you can't, if we're going to make this, I won't allow you to compromise on certain plot points
Starting point is 00:27:22 or certain characters or change things or like. Is it Brian Azzarello? No. Who was that? Greg Rucker. Greg Rucker, yeah. I apologize. Here we bloody go.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Best video game movie. People are screaming about Sonic. They're like, we love Sonic. It's the best movie of the year or whatever. So there's two options. There's Sonic and just Monster Hunter. It snuck in under the line. We have not seen it because we missed the screening.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Might have a slap through it. As mentioned, yeah, we cannot see it nowuck in under the line. We have not seen it because we missed the screening. One of us slept through it. As mentioned, yeah, we cannot see it now. Like we can't. We missed it. Sure. Yeah, we're not allowed anymore. They blacklist us. They put up photos of us in every movie theatre
Starting point is 00:27:56 and they're like, do not sell tickets to Monster Hunter to these boys, these troublemaking boys. I feel like it will come to streaming. Like it will pop up in six months and I'll be like, oh, yeah, I'll get to that. And then I won't. No, I'm going to watch it. Is it in cinemas now? Yes, Mason.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Wow, okay. You can't go because of the boys, the boys poster. That's true. So Sonic the Hedgehog wins that. Oh, by a country mile. 89% I've got here. Yeah, 89%. As we've talked about, like, it's good.
Starting point is 00:28:26 It's not, like, amazing, but it's pretty good. Again, I think it's that low expectation. I don't think it was pretty good. Sorry, for a kid's movie. For a kid's movie, there we go, yeah. I think for a kid's movie, even if it wasn't based on a video game franchise, I think people are like, yeah, that's pretty good for kids, I guess.
Starting point is 00:28:42 I guess it is. So, yeah, so Monster Hunter got 6% and Haven't Seen or Don't Care got 5%. Just edging up on Monster Hunter. Can you imagine getting just above Haven't Seen or Don't Care? Here's the thing, though. If you look at the survey, your options are Monster Hunter, Sonic the Hedgehog or Other. So people have clicked Other and written I don't care.
Starting point is 00:29:07 Yeah, nearly more than Monster Hunter. Incredible. What about Best Hair or Wig? Now this is an award that isn't given out by a lot of podcasts, probably because it's a stupid concept. But I think we've made it our own because it's a stupid concept. That's right. So, yeah. So it's essentially about who's – I think we've made it our own because it's a stupid concept. That's right. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:25 So it's essentially about who's – we've got worst hair as well, which we'll get to, but it's essentially who presents with the best hair. Yes. It can be any type of hair, but it has to be spectacular. Yep. It doesn't have to be unique, but it has to be strong. Do you know what I mean? It has to have its own presence.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Okay. Who's a previous – You should be writing this. Are you reading off a script? No, I'm reading it, yeah. Chris Evans, I think. It has to be magnificent own presence. You should be writing this. Are you reading off a script? No, I'm reading it, yeah. Chris Evans, I think. It has to be magnificent. Yes, it does.
Starting point is 00:29:49 But it also has to be subtle. Yeah, that's right. Not in your face, but sometimes in your face if it's your hair. That's right. So I think Chris Evans has won one year for the Captain America. Maybe Infinity War he won. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which was a wig.
Starting point is 00:30:01 Which was a wig, yeah. And there's been other years. There have been other years. Hotly debated. Go through some of the. Okay, we've got Charlie Hunnam from The Gentleman. Good hair. Good hair and beard.
Starting point is 00:30:12 Yep, I agree. Glasses, but they're out of the running. Can't have glasses. And real hair as well. Cobb Vanth from The Mandalorian. Spectacular. So it's Timothy Olsen. More disheveled, but it's got its own thing going on.
Starting point is 00:30:24 I agree, yeah. Journey Smollett from Lovecraft Country. Good look in general. A lot of fantastic outfits and hair. That was my addition. I've got to finish that show. Klaus from the Umbrella Academy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Good hair. Wouldn't have got a look in previous season, I feel like. But our options are limited. No, no, sorry. From the previous season. Oh, I see. Season one he wouldn't have got a look in. Okay. but our options are limited. No, no, no, sorry. From the previous season. Oh, I see. Season one he wouldn't have got a look yet.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Okay. I like how this particular category has way more options than a lot of other things. I know, right? Kristen Wiig, Wonder Woman 84 pre-cheater transformation. Because afterwards weird and wet. Well, that's going to be in worst. But that's a controversial one. Not everybody's on board with this.
Starting point is 00:31:05 I'll tell you one thing, I'm not on board with it. I like the 80s hair. Everything prior to this has blown it out of the water, honestly. Okay. This is a disgrace. No, I wouldn't give it. This is a disgrace, James. I wouldn't give it to Cheetah or Pre-Cheetah.
Starting point is 00:31:17 You're just saying it's a choice. Kurt Russell from the Christmas Chronicles 2. Very good, always very good. Yeah, but. Except for the movie Soldier. Yeah, but that, I mean, that's that, I mean, this is Santa Claus hair. But have you seen like his beard? It's got like ringlets in it.
Starting point is 00:31:31 Okay. Have you seen it? It's really good. Maybe, I think I've just seen a thumbnail. You've got to see it. I'll look it up now. Yeah, it's pretty good. But also, Pedro Pascal, Wonder Woman 84.
Starting point is 00:31:41 Now that, well, see, that's the thing. I know. It's got a life of its own. I mean, here's the thing about that hair is you know it's half. Like if you were like Gal Gadot's hair in Wonder Woman, I'd be like, oh, it's Wonder Woman hair, I guess. But Pedro Pascal's hair in that, like he's shoving it to the side and it's flipping down.
Starting point is 00:31:58 It's moving about. It's covering one of his bloodshot eyes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So he's, you know, in a way it's the fifth Beatle. I wouldn't say it's spectacular. Like hair can be an element, like a part of the character. But it can be better. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:32:11 Like it's part of him and it's part of that character, but I don't think it's a good part of him. Do you know what I mean? In the same way that like Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye haircut, it's part of him and I acknowledge it because I can't not, but it's not. Do you think it was designed to be upsetting, like in an 80s way? I think a little bit, yeah. It's almost like, you know, that dude from Glow?
Starting point is 00:32:31 Yeah, right, okay. But not as good, like a sloppier version of that. Yeah, right, uh-huh. Interesting stuff. Well, I mean, maybe that's going to take it because it's making waves. It is. Oily waves. It might be my vote, but it could, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:45 Okay. Robert Pattinson in Tenet, which to me is kind of the modern-day version of the Pedro Pascal hair. It's floppy. Yeah. It's British. Yeah. It's better.
Starting point is 00:32:54 I wouldn't put it up there, though. But is it better? Could be better. Could be better. Maybe we did love Wonder Woman 84. Sonic the Hedgehog, I'm assuming post-redesign. It's a fuzz, isn't it? I'm okay with it.
Starting point is 00:33:11 And the final one, Zachary Ruane from Aunty Donna, which normally wouldn't get a look in because that's YouTube. Yeah. And no, and thank you. But this year, luckily, they had a television show on Netflix. You also see the versatility of his hair. Braids. The braids really got me.
Starting point is 00:33:29 Honestly, it's the braids that made me go, there's a lot going on here. And it looks good. Yeah. Because there's a moment, you can look up the sketch by itself, but Broden goes in to get a haircut at a trendy barber, which also is like shockingly like the barber I go to. I just wish I got better haircuts. But anyway, and he's got the two.
Starting point is 00:33:47 He's got the braids, yeah. And it looks really good. Apparently a lot of people are like, you should do that in real life forever now. Maybe. Yeah. Yeah. He's always had good hair.
Starting point is 00:33:54 Here's some results, James. You ready for these? Wait, wait. We should give our results first. Oh, we certainly should. Oh, God. I might have to go Cobb Vanth. It is good hair.
Starting point is 00:34:03 I think it's the grain. I was leaning towards that, yeah. It's like I can relate to that. Maybe I could pull that off. I definitely couldn to go Cobb Vanth. It is good hair. I think it's the grain. I was leaning towards that, yeah. It's like I can relate to that. Maybe I could pull that off. I definitely couldn't, but maybe I could. It's given me that aspirational energy. When was the last time you had long hair? Oh, like I was pretty long in lockdown.
Starting point is 00:34:16 But it wasn't good long. It was bad. I can show you a photo. Well, that's the thing. Everybody approaches the awkward length. Yeah. No, but I couldn't pull that hair off. Who am I kidding?
Starting point is 00:34:25 What about you? Who would you choose? Yeah, I think I'm probably leaning towards Cobb Vanth. I love a Timothy Olyphant hairstyle. Yeah. I don't know what he's doing. Like, any time I see him in anything, I'm like, that guy's got great hair. He does have great hair.
Starting point is 00:34:35 I'm wondering if it's a wig, but I think maybe. Because he's not doing productions where they're like, he's not doing Justified, and they're like, we'll put you in a wig. He's not doing Santa Clarita Diet, and they're like, your husband and father will put you in a wig. That's not doing Santa Clarita diet and they're like, you're a husband and father, we'll put you in a wig. They're just like, this is your natural hair. And I think he's going to take it. You know what, sometimes they do the Oscars and they're like,
Starting point is 00:34:53 that's a Lifetime Achievement Award. But I think he's good this year and he's been consistently good for years and I think it's his real hair, so I think I'm going to go with Timothy Oliphant. I'm with you 100% on that one, I think. Great contenders this year. I think Charlie Hunnam's definitely out there as well. So what have you got there?
Starting point is 00:35:09 What are the results? Well, look, according to the listeners, Cobb Vanth has been pipped at the post by Zachary Ruane. I'm okay with that. But not by a lot, 23.1% versus 22.7%. I am 100% okay with that. And then we've got Pattinson. Then we've got Pedro Pascal.
Starting point is 00:35:22 I knew it would be towards the top because they took a swing and then Klaus. And everybody else can go to hell. Go to hell. Shave your head. Don't even bother. But obviously Bloodshot. Vin Diesel as Mr. Blood's hot.
Starting point is 00:35:36 But, I mean, just that they had to powder his head. Yes. They would have had to. You know, when he goes full Bloodshot. Yeah, he does. He goes all white. They would have been like, this is the big Dave in. This is the big Dave in.
Starting point is 00:35:46 This is the big Dave Vincent. Mr. Diesel, we're going to have Mr. Diesel. They call him Mr. Diesel. Mr. Diesel. We're going to have to put the white pancake makeup on your head. And he's like, yes, this is what I was born to do. Worst hair or wig, though. So we've got everyone from Tiger King. Hawkeye again from Avengers Endgame.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Kristen Wiig post-cheater transformation. Presumably that's when she's completely the cat, right? Yeah. Yeah. Look, this is not a surprising. I'd love to give it to Hawkeye again. Yeah, this is not a surprising result, but the listeners have voted overwhelmingly for still Hawkeye at 47%.
Starting point is 00:36:22 And then followed by everyone in Tiger King. Yeah. There are some shocking fucking haircuts in that show. Yeah. All around. Everybody. And that's the thing as well, their choices. They're not characters.
Starting point is 00:36:33 What's his name? Joe Exotic. Joe Exotic, yeah. God, it was a billion years. Remember when we watched Tiger King? It was a billion years ago. I watched three or two and I'm like, I fucking hate everybody in this. Nobody's any good.
Starting point is 00:36:42 And I stopped watching it. Nobody's any good. And every now and then they come up on Twitter and be like, this person's in jail. I'm like, I don't everybody in this. Nobody's any good. And I stopped watching it. Yeah, nobody's any good. And every now and then they come up on Twitter and be like, this person's in jail. I'm like, I don't know who that is, but good. And this person got their teeth fixed and they're in jail. Good. Teeth fixed in jail.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Yeah, look. And I, oh, God, you remember back in the day, and remember back in the old times? Yeah. And there was a lot of discourse of like, we shouldn't be glorifying these people. They weren't. None of that was glorified.
Starting point is 00:37:07 There was nobody came out looking good from what I saw of that. Yeah. Yeah. What are the other percentages? Let's have a look at this. Let's have a quick look. So, yeah, still Hawkeye, everyone talking Kristen Wiig and then Pedro Pascal was 7.2.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Yeah, yeah. Wow. Kind of surprising. Imagine having hair so spectacularly bad that it bleeds over into the next year. When you say to somebody, what's the worst hair? You don't even give them the option. And it's not even in the context of movies. People just go, oh, Hawkeye.
Starting point is 00:37:36 I still think he could have won that if we didn't put him in. Oh, yeah. People would have. Yeah. That being said, though, it seems that the. It's the bit at the back. We've talked about it. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Well, it's the bit at the back, but also I think us and the listeners and the viewers of the kind of movies we're into are in the minority because there are people out there rocking that Hawkeye haircut in real life, but worse. I agree. And I think if we took this to the streets, if we took this to the streets, if we took this to the streets, footy show style.
Starting point is 00:38:07 If we street talked, if we footy showed this. Do you mean just harassing people with mental illness? Yes, that's right. Just standing on a corner looking for lunatics. I reckon a lot of people would be like, nah man, it's good hair. I love it and I look good. Yeah. James, here's the next category. I'm ready. Best
Starting point is 00:38:24 CGI or special effects. Hero contenders. The Boys. Love and Monsters. Yep. The Mandalorian. Sonic the Hedgehog. Other.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Other. It's interesting. Bloodshot. Pancake Makeup. Right? Was it real or CG? Remember when he exploded? Was that real?
Starting point is 00:38:41 Or just CG when he came back together? Was that just Vin Diesel channeling the power of family and Coronas and Coca-Cola bringing it all back? It might have been that. You can't put a Corona and a Coca-Cola together. That's right. It'll explode you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:56 I mean, the boys is, like, gory and they built a real whale. Like, it's good, but it's not, not like it's not flashy you know what i mean yeah but overall really good vibe good like green screens and good gore like digital blood is quite difficult and i feel like it does a very good job of yeah that's true although like shoot some blood plates or whatever and then you know what great heat vision vision. The best. Which doesn't often like, you know, I think they went, you know, heat vision in a lot of movies is pretty sanitized. I'm talking Superman-esque stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Because oftentimes. He'll heat up a gun and then someone will drop it. Or he'll heat vision, you know, a big gray man. Yeah. And the big gray man will be like, ah, and fall over. Yeah. That's not what heat vision is about. It's about cutting a crowd in half.
Starting point is 00:39:44 Yeah. Just slicing a crowd like it's a sponge cake. That's not what heat vision's about. It's about cutting a crowd in half. Yeah. Just slicing a crowd like it's a sponge cake. It's not just that, though. It's that the wounds aren't cauterized. Cauterized, is that the word? Yes. Like a lightsaber would.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Like it's just you just spray blood. It's just like hitting a bag of blood. Yeah, right. With like a buzz saw. Like it's just everywhere. You know what I mean? It's really good. That being said, and this is maybe something we Like it's just everywhere. You know what I mean? It's really good. That being said, and this is maybe something we – here's the results. Yep.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Here's the people who voted. I was going to say The Mandalorian and I think I'm with the people here because 72% of people have said The Mandalorian. Yeah. Now, there's not a lot of like crazy – there's not like a huge in-camera effects but – I mean, there is. Yeah. Sorry, there's not a huge amount of out-of-camera post-effects.
Starting point is 00:40:29 I mean, there also is. But the entire show is done on a green screen essentially and you wouldn't know. I think that one of the things that was really impressive that I saw on the behind-the-scenes thing is, you know, the bit where they're in Slave 1 and the inside is rotating. They used the volume for that. They had the volume and rotated the screen.
Starting point is 00:40:48 You know what I'm talking about? Yeah. Just little things like that, making creative use of it. Yeah. That being said, like Love and Monsters looks really great. If you've ever seen Love and Monsters, it's like big giant mutant crabs and stuff. What is that? What is it?
Starting point is 00:41:01 It's the Earth has been irradiated by a nuclear, no, by an asteroid or something. And so all the creatures, like all the insects become giant and stuff. This is a movie. It's a movie. It was filmed in Australia. It's got Michael Rooker. It's got the guy from the Hunger Games, Dylan. What's his name?
Starting point is 00:41:19 I really like him. It's got Jessica Henwick. It's good. Okay. Yeah. So check it out maybe. Anyway, here's our results, James. Oh, sorry.
Starting point is 00:41:26 You ready for this? Mandalorian 72%, The Boys 21%, Sonic 4.6%, and then voted in other, Lovecraft Country and The Invisible Man. Pretty good choices. How do you feel about The Invisible Man? I mean, it's a lot about what you don't see. Well, I think. I think it's disturbing.
Starting point is 00:41:42 Yeah, but the thing about The Invisible Man as well is you can't just shoot nothing. It's like it's framed like there's a man standing there even when there's not. You know, and the practical stuff. But that's more a director of photography thing. Yeah, but that's all part of it though I feel like as well. Like it gives you the, and, you know, when he gets the bucket of paint and like. Yeah, uh-huh. And, you know, it's, and when the suit's like flickering on and off.
Starting point is 00:42:03 Yeah. We should have put that in as a main category. Well, now it's in. Now it's in. What do you think about that? It's definitely up there. Right. And especially on the budget.
Starting point is 00:42:11 Sonic benefited from the redesign. But the Sonic itself, it's not a spectacular effect. I mean, it is, obviously, but compared to the other things here. Yeah. It's not up there. I agree. James, worst CGI special effects. Here we go. Bloodshot. I know, I'm wounded.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Maybe. Like a bloodshot. I'll never reintegrate all my molecules. I bet you could, though. Yeah, I probably can. The bit where he's falling in a CGI cutscene, remember that? Yeah. And they're all CGI and they're hitting each other.
Starting point is 00:42:42 Doolittle. Probably. The New Mutants. Harrison Ford dog movie. Wonder Woman 1984. Yeah, a lot of pushback on some of the scenes in that. There's some janky stuff in there. There's the scene where she swings in and she rescues some kids
Starting point is 00:42:55 from being run over by a truck. From a blue screen. Yeah, from a blue screen, yeah. And then I think she lands on one of them. And they didn't take it out. They didn't do another take on it. I love everything about that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:04 I think it's unfair to put something like The New Mutants in here. Why's that? I think it has a pretty good look to it for what it's going for. That demon bear's pretty good. Yeah, I wonder if people would vote on that just because. They didn't like it? Well, they didn't like it and also because some of it seems out of character for an X-Men movie.
Starting point is 00:43:22 Like if you read an x-men comic book yeah there's no there's no forest or a train uh or a school a school i mean there's sort of a school there's a school yeah it's not the traditional school yeah um and because you know in in x-men comic books there are little dragons and magic and demon bears and etc whereas this is kind of out of character for that and i mean you know it's an attempt to do something a little bit different. Yeah. No, I wouldn't put that in there. Doolittle, dragon, anus bagpipes. Yeah, but, like, the dragon itself is fine. But there is a lot of, from what, I haven't seen it.
Starting point is 00:43:55 But from what I have seen, there is some very wonky CGI in that movie. Okay, but what about Harrison Ford dog movie? Again, I haven't seen it. You've seen clips of it. I have. See, what they've done with Ford dog movie? Again, I haven't seen it You've seen clips of it I have See, what they've done with the dog movie apparently Is that the dog is purposefully expressive
Starting point is 00:44:13 Like it's not supposed to look exactly like a dog Okay So I think I don't know whether it should count in the same sense But then again, if people are responding in a way that they don't like that Then yeah, it could be worse. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:28 Look, here's the results. I'm going to say Wonder Woman for me, honestly. Just because it's- For a budget like that as well? For a budget like that. And look, again, I don't know if some of it was deliberate. Like when we see her step out of the car in the aforementioned desert chase where she rescues the kid.
Starting point is 00:44:44 She steps out and then she's just sort of like pumping her arms and it looks like. The Wile E. Coyote ride. Yeah, exactly. And I'm wondering if was that meant to be a throwback to old school terrible special effects. Like Superman's like racing the train or whatever. Like maybe that's deliberate but it looked bad.
Starting point is 00:45:01 Okay. And it looked like people didn't know what they were doing. So I think it was that. What about Cheetah? Would you put Cheetah in there with a bad special effect or is that more of a design thing or did you not care? I mean, it's a – look, you know, James, you know how sometimes they give people a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Starting point is 00:45:16 Well, I'm giving it to the DC Cinematic Universe for just grey men and lightning and blue lights and particle beams and just stop doing it. I know they all do it. I know Marvel does it as well. But just you're trying to make a better class of movie here. What are you doing? What are you doing with these bad,
Starting point is 00:45:37 let's have a fight cheater in the dark, great. Yeah. No, bad, I think. Look, I'm going to agree with you. Good chicken suit, though. Tell me you're right. Practical. The listeners have voted Harrison Ford dog movie 37%,
Starting point is 00:45:49 Doolittle 23%, Wonder Woman 17%, The New Mutants 7.8%, and at 5% bloodshot. A real bloodshot to my heart. Bloodshot to the balls. If I'm honest with you. Here we get, things are heating up, Mason, because we're doing best villain. Oh, yep.
Starting point is 00:46:06 What have we got here? We've got Homelander, the boys. Stormfront, the boys. Rudy Giuliani, Borat 2. Got him. Got him. He's done. He's done if he wins this.
Starting point is 00:46:17 The Invisible Man from The Invisible Man. Moth Gideon, the Mandalorian. Demon Bear, New Mutants. Robotnik, Sonic. Max Lord, Wonder Woman, Cheetah, Wonder Woman. I'm sure there's others in there that will get you in other. This is a good list, I think.
Starting point is 00:46:31 It's a great list. I probably wouldn't give it to Homelander or Stormfront. Why is that? Because you consider them both heroes. Yeah, that's right. For a variety of reasons. Actually, Stormfront, maybe I would give it to Homelander. I mean, the first two results are kind of like they're complicated
Starting point is 00:46:47 and I don't mean because they do heroic things. They're both the worst, but I think it's interesting that they built, there's some layers to them where Homelander is the worst, but at the same time when he's confronted with the idea that Stormfront is an actual Nazi, he's like, I think this might be too far even for me. I think that's compelling. And the fact that Stormfront is, you know, white supremacist, Nazi, et cetera,
Starting point is 00:47:10 but then she has built up a social media presence. These are really good. What am I talking about? And they're kind of, you know, that on the one hand, I'm sure she would have followers who are like, we love you, Stormfront, because you're so cool or whatever, but she would also have, like, she's ready to pivot to we love you because you're an artsy, Stormfront.
Starting point is 00:47:28 She's prepared to, you know, and that is, even though this is a silly fantasy show, like, that's some real-life stuff they've put in there. They weren't shy about putting that in, which I think is interesting. I think also they do a really good job of those characters then being reflected in the public attitude, like the service station attendant who gets killed because the guy thinks he's superhuman.
Starting point is 00:47:52 Yeah. You know, when you get people who are attacking people because they think they're doing a thing because they look a certain way. Yeah, right. For example. So, yeah, those guys are definitely up there. Rudy Giuliani, yeah, I guess he's a villain. I mean, he is. Yeah, he sucks.
Starting point is 00:48:06 I mean, to some people he's a hero. James, I've got a new award here. It's Best Real Life Guy Who Sucks. And there are a lot of contenders this year, but I'm just going to say Rudy Giuliani because he sucks. Yeah, why not? He could have had it all. He could have just shut up. Yeah. But he didn't. That's right. He just didn't. He just didn't. Invisible Man was
Starting point is 00:48:22 very compelling. Yeah. And there were two, spoiler alert. Oh, yeah. So that was was very compelling. Yeah. And there were two. Spoiler alert. Oh, yeah. So that was the one that I needed. James, you can't say the spoiler and then say spoiler alert afterwards. I can. I mean, I guess you can now. That movie's been out for a long time.
Starting point is 00:48:33 And spoilers for all of those. I thought it came out in 2019. So there you go. Fair enough. When did it come out? It must have come out in January. It did. It came out very early.
Starting point is 00:48:41 Moff Gideon I lost respect for at the end when he's like, I'm ten steps ahead. And by that I mean I'm in this room. You thought I was in a different room. I'm like, you're barely ahead. Look, if we can go back to The Invisible Man. Yeah, just the idea of we went with a classic monster movie villain but they added like a modern sensibility where you're like, oh, that –
Starting point is 00:49:01 What an upsetting man. He's using the technology to just be the worst person in the world and that's what would happen and I think that's very compelling as well. That's good. That's a spoiler alert. Put him in with the boys. Is he real or not? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:14 Yeah, Gideon, you're absolutely right in the sense that he – I think he's – look, I think that Moff Gideon is carried in a lot of ways. One, because he's being portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito. And he's very talented and good, and we know him from Breaking Bad and other things. And he's got that Darth Vader kind of look, which clearly he's gone, I'm going to do a Darth Vader kind of look,
Starting point is 00:49:34 and people are going to be... And you get on his ship, and he's not really... He doesn't have that many guys. His robots aren't that hard to beat, it turns out. I mean, they would have killed them all if Luke Skywalker didn't show up. That is true, yeah. Spoiler alert. At this point, look, I'm against people spoiling something like
Starting point is 00:49:54 The Mandalorian the day the final episode comes out. But if you haven't seen it now, you probably weren't planning on it. You're not a Luke Skywalker fan like us. You're not a true fan. That's right. You're not a Luke Skywalker, William Shatner fan like us. Demon Bear, nah. I mean, it's nice to see a Demon Bear in cinema, obviously.
Starting point is 00:50:11 But, I mean, who cares? What's the other bear look like? Yeah, right? Robotnik. Good. Like that performance. Like that performance from Jim Carrey. Good.
Starting point is 00:50:19 Good to see him getting out there, you know? Yeah. Just that multi, multi-millionaire trying his best. He's got a little dance number. Yeah. And Max Lord and Cheetah. Oh, and I liked his little, you know, when he's ultimately awful and nice to his supporters.
Starting point is 00:50:32 Yeah, that's fun. That was fun. I wouldn't give it to Cheetah, but I would, you know, I could see where Max Lord could get a look in, except at the end he's like, I'm giving you all your wishes. And I'm like, okay. Yeah, well, that's the thing. But he your wishes. And I'm like, okay. Well, that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:50:47 But he's fun. Well, that's the thing. Do we give it to the person who's given the craziest performance? Can we do that? Yeah. Because, look, again, I don't know if that should have been Max Lord. Yeah. I think it probably should have been somebody else. They couldn't pull out another evil businessman character from DC history.
Starting point is 00:51:06 There isn't anybody else. Absolutely. I think it was. And it's sort of, you know, Max Lord has a more interesting history, I think, in the comic books. Yes. And now they can't. I guess they could bring him back.
Starting point is 00:51:19 No, because he went and lived with his son or whatever. But they could make him a villain again. Yeah, but that's not. Or, you know what? My guess would be if they're going to do a Wonder Woman 3, maybe they said it in the modern times, he's back and he's a good guy now. Okay. Like he funds the Justice League when Batman's not around
Starting point is 00:51:36 or something like that. I'd be happy with that. I don't know. I'd be happy with that. Yeah, I would like to see him again. So, yeah. I would give it to Homelander. Yeah, I'm going to give it to. I yeah. I would give it to Homelander. Yeah, I'm going to give it to.
Starting point is 00:51:46 I'm also going to give it to Homelander. What a good performance. A good guy. Yeah, a good man. We believe in him. A real true hero. And, again, like he is the idea of a Superman, but he's evil. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:59 I guess that is new to TV in a lot of ways. But, like, a Superman that's evil is very much like a very well-tread stereotype. I think I probably went into this being like, oh, yeah, this is going to be dull. But I think it's terrific. Let's look at some bloody results. Results, Homeland at 40%. Yep.
Starting point is 00:52:18 Rudy Giuliani, 22%. Got him. We got him. Stormfront, 11.3. Moff Gideon, 10.5. And then The Invisible Man. No argument there.3. Moff Gideon, 10.5. And then The Invisible Man. No argument there. Yes.
Starting point is 00:52:28 Those are pretty on point. Yeah, good, good stuff. James, best trailer. Oh, my goodness. You ready for this? I am. The Batman. Yep.
Starting point is 00:52:35 Dune. Yep. Or is it Dune? Is it Dune? I'm thinking of ending things. Oh, yeah. Loki. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:52:41 Nobody. What's that? The Bob Odenkirk one. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So that's probably out. WandaVision. Nobody. What's that? The Bob Odenkirk one. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So that's probably out. WandaVision. Yep.
Starting point is 00:52:49 Zack Snyder's The Justice League. No. Other. I couldn't tell you a single thing about the Zack Snyder's The Justice League trailer. Superman's back. We'll probably have to cut this out for copyright reasons. That's true. Yeah. Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba- trailer to compel me to watch that. You didn't be watching it. Yeah. Nobody. I like the concept. It is just John Wick though, isn't it? Yes. It's John Wick. And then we're also like well you put forth to me that like, would you like this if it wasn't Bob-Odenkirk?
Starting point is 00:53:34 I'm like, yeah, good point. For me, I think it would be a it is a tie here is between Batman, Loki and WandaVision, I would say. For me, for WandaVision, I don't know which TV spots or trailers or anything I would say. For me, for WandaVision, I don't know which TV spots or trailers or anything I've seen. Like I'm very much looking forward to it,
Starting point is 00:53:48 but I couldn't be like, which was the one with the whatever? Yeah. Yeah, look, for me, I think the Batman trailer is very compelling. I think we get just enough. Well, I guess the way to judge these is do we get enough to be intrigued? I mean, I would say the Batman no matter what, but that made me go, oh, this looks very interesting. Interesting take.
Starting point is 00:54:11 If we do some results, what have we got here? I'm going to say Loki just because it's expanding the Marvel Universe. Yep. And it's, you know, the Marvel Universe post-Endgame, I'm like, and I'm sure for a lot of people, like, we're exhausted. Do we need any more of this? Have we seen everything it has to offer? Well, clearly we haven't. We've got a bunch
Starting point is 00:54:30 of new things and new characters. It's revitalised. It's revitalised, I think, yeah. So the results here, the Batman 61%, Loki 11.3%, Snyder Cut 10.7%, bit of an upset for me, personally. There you go. Best animated movie.
Starting point is 00:54:45 Okay. A Whiskey Away. A Whisker Away. A Whisker Away, sorry, yeah. Onward. Over the Moon. Scoob. What's Over the Moon?
Starting point is 00:54:55 I don't know. I don't know any of these. Good Lord. Soul. Shaun the Sheep. Farm Again. I saw that. Did you?
Starting point is 00:55:01 I liked it. With your kid? Yeah, it's fun. Weathering With You. Is Shaun the Sheep and Wallace and Gr I saw that. Did you? I liked it. With your kid? Yeah, it's fun. Okay. Weathering With You. Is Sean the Sheep and Wiles and Gromit set in the same universe? I have no idea, but probably. Okay. Good.
Starting point is 00:55:12 Do you need to know? Is Chicken Run. Yeah, Weathering With You is one of those. Is it a studio? Was it a Ghibli? It might be. Okay, I'm behind. I'm behind on all the Ghiblis.
Starting point is 00:55:20 I have not seen a single one. The Willoughbys. Yeah, that was on. Apparently that's really good. It's on Netflix. Okay. And Wolfwalkers. James, I'm going to give it to. The Willoughbys. Yeah, apparently that's really good. It's on Netflix. Okay. And Wolfwalkers. James, I'm going to give it to Sol for a number of reasons.
Starting point is 00:55:30 One, because it was good, and two, because it's the only one of these I've seen. You haven't seen Scoob? No. I still haven't seen Onward. Is that this year? People say it's good. I've heard it's good. Yeah?
Starting point is 00:55:40 I've heard Sol is better, though. Okay, well, let's see. What are the results? Let's see what actual people think about this. Soul, 51%. My dad is just legs and we're elves or something, 22%. Okay, so that's right. It's up there.
Starting point is 00:55:51 A Whisk are away, 9%. Scoob, 4.8%. Weathering with you, 4.2%. There you go. Let's do horrid movies. Okay, so now what we've done here, I think what will happen here is we've reached the dip in this. What's the dip mean? The dip is where we don't know anything about the middle third of the movies.
Starting point is 00:56:11 Oh, no, I'm doing all right here, I think. Okay. Freaky. I saw Freaky. I liked it. It was all right. His House. Don't know.
Starting point is 00:56:17 Which I'm assuming is a sequel to the Madness song Our House. After everybody's dead except for him. The sequel of the song. His House is a Netflix horror movie written by Remy Weeks. Oh, it's like ghosts and they move in, but it's about racism and stuff. Apparently that is really good. Yeah, and I've been meaning to watch that. The Hunt.
Starting point is 00:56:34 I mean, I'm a bit of a bloody SJW snowflake, so for me that was personally very, it's fine. The Invisible Man was great. I agree. Underwater was fine. That's the Kristen Stewart one? Yes. Relic was good. I agree. Underwater was fine. That's the Kristen Stewart one? Yes. Relic was good.
Starting point is 00:56:47 Good Australian horror movie. Oh. Set in a spooky house. Saint Maud I did not see. But if you don't mind me, I'm going to add one to this. The Wolf of Snow Hollow. What's that? It's about a werewolf terrorising a small town and the sheriff doesn't know what he's doing.
Starting point is 00:56:59 He's left Wall Street, obviously. And the sheriff doesn't know what he's doing. Oh, my goodness. And it's really good. Huh. Yeah. It sounds like a children's book it is not it's directed by Jim Cummings I really enjoyed it
Starting point is 00:57:12 who's that again? he's not the dean from Community he has the same name as a famous voice actor he did Thunder Road if you ever saw Thunder Road but it's also got Robert Forster voice actor. There you go. But he did Thunder Road, if you ever saw Thunder Road. Oh, yeah, yeah, I remember Thunder Road. But it's also got Robert Forster.
Starting point is 00:57:29 Might be his last role. Oh, right. Maybe his last role, yeah. But I really enjoyed it. Well, the results are in, James. The Invisible Man swept it with 80%. Yeah, fair. Followed by Freaky, The Hunt, His House and Underwater.
Starting point is 00:57:41 What's His House? Of Tide with 2.8%, Host 2%, and then voted in other New Mutants, which technically is a horror movie, I guess. I guess, technically. Technically it's a movie, isn't it? Yeah, it really is. What is this? St. Maude.
Starting point is 00:57:57 Reclusive young nurse impression. Okay, I'm going to watch that as well. Comedy movies. Oh, here we go. Get ready to laugh. Four out of two. Bill and Ted Face the movies. Oh, here we go. Get ready to laugh. Four out of two. Bill and Ted Face the Music.
Starting point is 00:58:08 Emma. Didn't say it. Eurovision. The King of Staten Island. Palm Springs. This is a pretty solid year, I think. It's good, but it's Palm Springs. What do you think it is? No, it is also Palm Springs.
Starting point is 00:58:19 But there's some good names on there. Bill and Ted Face the Music is a nice movie. It's a nice movie with nice men. And others. Oh, yeah. But is it a comedy? Yeah. There's some jokes in it, I guess.
Starting point is 00:58:32 I mean, they're comedies, aren't they? Yeah. Nice movie. It's a nice movie, isn't it? I didn't say it. Bill and Ted Face the Music, you're getting my special award for best nice movie. We should do that next year. Best nice movie?
Starting point is 00:58:43 Best nice movie. Somebody make a note of it. Not me or not you. Coll should do that next year. Best nice movie? Best nice movie. Somebody make a note of it. Not me or not you. Collings. Okay. Yeah. Best nice movie that's just nice and you had a nice time. Eurovision I started and it was fine.
Starting point is 00:58:54 Yep. King of Staten Island's pretty good. Yeah, I didn't mind it. Emery I didn't watch, but it's definitely Palm Springs. Yeah, it's definitely. And I think, I believe the listeners also loved Palm Springs. It was good. Again, it's that kind of movie, and people probably know
Starting point is 00:59:07 because at this point it's come out on every streaming service and there's been enough ads that I guess if you don't. Yeah. But if you don't know anything about it, just go into it without looking it up. But if you do know what it's about, it doesn't matter. Yeah, that's true. I guess that's probably true.
Starting point is 00:59:20 Palm Springs, number one. Borat, two. Bill and Ted, three. Eurovision, The King of Staten Island. One and two are pretty close, though, like a couple of percent. Interesting. It's good to see that Bill and Ted wasn't the worst. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:59:32 Yeah. It should be a movie that was like not the worst. Nice movie. Like you thought it would be the worst. Yep. But it was nice. Good, nice movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:39 Best streaming service, Apple, Prime, Disney, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Stan, an Australian choice. Bloodshot TV. I was going to do a thing where I just said Bloodshot for all of them, but then I forgot. You could still do it. I could still do it. I mean, it's not as funny now.
Starting point is 00:59:55 Best comedy movie, Bloodshot. I'm going to go back. Best horror movie, Bloodshot. There's blood. Shot. Best animated movie, Bloodshot. That one section in Bloodshot. He exploded and then he came back together. That's animated or something. Best trailer, Bloodshot. Bloodshot. Shot. Best animated movie, Bloodshot. That one section in Bloodshot. He exploded and then he came back together.
Starting point is 01:00:05 That's animated or something. Best trailer, Bloodshot. Bloodshot. I probably won. Best villain, Guy Pearce in Bloodshot. Spoiler alert, he was the bad guy the whole time. Bloodshot wasn't the villain? No.
Starting point is 01:00:16 I thought you were giving every award to Bloodshot, the character. It's Bloodshot. Why wouldn't he just let Guy Pearce run his weird military nanotech business? God damn it. We're CGI special effects. It was Bloodshot. It's bad. It's not a good movie.
Starting point is 01:00:34 It's just the last one I saw before we went into lockdown that time. Best special effects, Bloodshot. I think I said that earlier. What? No. No, it contains multitudes, the movie Bloodshot. Anyway anyway i think we're up to date so great stuff yep uh it's i watched the most netflix but um uh shout out to prime disney plus you know how we should judge this the bet i think this year the best streaming service should be the one that we should have cancelled but we didn't because they strung us along just enough that we didn't.
Starting point is 01:01:05 Disney then. Disney then, absolutely, right? It's Disney Plus because I would have cancelled if I knew how to cancel. If they weren't like there's a new season of The Mandalorian coming up and then WandaVision very soon, I think I probably would have worked out how to cancel it. But also it's like it's the cheapest one I think I figured out. It is for the moment it is.
Starting point is 01:01:24 Yeah, it's the cheapest one. It's also got an amazing It is for the moment it is. Yeah, it's the cheapest one. It's also got an amazing back catalogue. That is true. Of things I don't watch. And see, that's how they do it because they're like, we've got all these classics that you might want to get to and maybe you're bored on the weekend and maybe you want to watch one of the old animated movies, but if you cancelled it,
Starting point is 01:01:39 you've got to re-subscribe. We're going to do that joke where we list the two ones, the funny that we remember. Million Dollar Duck. Bullwhip Griffin. Yeah, there you go. Best joke. It is a good joke.
Starting point is 01:01:51 I agree. We've got to do a funny list again of those. It's Netflix, though, like for me. But really, if I'm honest, I just skip between like four. Like I don't really have a favorite, but I probably watch the most Netflix. I mean, Amazon Prime and The Boys. Yeah, that's true but what else just like if you were like what else do they have specifically I'd be like a movie that I realized was on there but I don't I couldn't name it yeah it's hard to do yeah the TV show The Magicians of which I watched two episodes yesterday uh upload this
Starting point is 01:02:20 is okay it's okay you said yeah so Netflix Harry Potter but they're saying swears and you're a bit older to do that I don Potter, but they're saying swears. Are they allowed to do that? I don't know if they're allowed to do it, but they're going to do it because they're magicians that don't take no, excuse the language, guff. They don't take any guff at all. Netflix came in at 39%, followed by Disney 31, Amazon 11, HBO 10, Hulu 2. Other votes for Stan, Crunchyroll, YouTube, and sketchy websites for pirating. Came in at number six. Interesting Hulu dropped so low there. We don't have Hulu.
Starting point is 01:02:49 We don't have what's on there. What Hulu gets is sort of distributed randomly on my air existing. But it's also Disney own it. Oh, do they? Okay, right. Maybe. Because Palm Springs here went on Amazon, I think. Yes, it did.
Starting point is 01:03:02 Worst streaming service, one option. Quibi. Quibi. And it took it away. It's an absolute sweep one option. Quibi. And it took it away. It's an absolute sweep. Yeah. Oh, wait, it's Bloodshot. Bloodshot TV.
Starting point is 01:03:13 Quick Bloods. I don't think anybody. Quibbler. There's no way that nothing else would have won that, though. If you put a million options, it would have been Quibi. Here's the thing, though. One, every time we do a thing about Quibi, there's somebody out there who will tweet at us or comment on YouTube
Starting point is 01:03:29 or whatever being like, I didn't know this existed until you mentioned it. Some people were like, I nearly stopped the video when you talked about it because I thought you were doing an ad. Yeah, right. Like a new thing. They're like, oh, what? No. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 01:03:40 Okay. But, yeah, here's the thing. Every time we mention it, it intrigues me more and more, and I'm like I kind of wish I had Quibi now so I could watch Quibi. You know what we never did? What's that? We never talked about Jack Sparrowhouse. That's not real.
Starting point is 01:03:54 It's not real. That's why we didn't talk about it. Yeah. But there was a fake. It could have been real. It took me a second. Somebody tweeted a fake fact about a Quibi TV series called Jack Sparrow House. I'm sure you've got it there.
Starting point is 01:04:06 And I looked and this marks it as one of the great jokes of 2020 because I looked at it and I had to Google whether or not it was real because it could have been totally real. So it was basically Jack Sparrow House was a reality television show that streamed on Quibi, not really. The television show plays 14 Jack Sparrow impersonators in a single family home who were eliminated if they broke character. And some of them were like sex pests or whatever the article goes into it.
Starting point is 01:04:34 But great article. Like got me. Like an internet joke that actually got me for a second. In retrospect, Disney would never have allowed it. Of course it couldn't be. But it's so dumb that it's like, yeah, maybe. Yeah, right? Maybe they're so dumb that they just do this.
Starting point is 01:04:49 Maybe Jeffrey Katzenberg. Katzenberg was at Disney? Who the fuck knows? It would not surprise me if Jeffrey Katzenberg had some sort of clause in his contract where he, you know, like the guy who invented Who Wants to Be a Millionaire can just use Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in anything he does. Like that's why Slumdog Millionaire exists. be a millionaire can just use who wants to be a millionaire in anything he does like that's why slumdog millionaire exists and that's that's why that's why slumdog millionaire exists and paints the movie it paints the show who wants to be a millionaire in such a bad light because the guy
Starting point is 01:05:11 who invented it had a clause where he can he can just put it in front of it that's why yeah and so that's he produced that movie so it would have been slumdog can you win a million or something yeah yeah for sure yeah uh what else we got here but anyway yeah maybe he's got a clause and he can like i can use jackarrow whenever I want. That's what I'm taking with me. But also maybe like, because you've got those guys who dress up as them in Times Square and go, ooh, come get a photo with me. Does it come under like fair use?
Starting point is 01:05:35 Parody. Parody, exactly. Maybe if you call yourself Jonk Sparrow, you're allowed to get away with it. And you can't break character from being Jonk Sparrow. Where's all the fun? Can't say rum because it's probably a kid's show too. You go to one of those cheap costume places and they have the bag with the costume in it
Starting point is 01:05:54 and it just says like drug addict pirate or whatever. Brain damaged pirate. I would watch Jack Sparrow House. If it was real, I'd give it one. Yeah, and also, again, they all have to pick a different name. So there's Jonk Sparrow. Flack Tarot, whatever. Duke Spadoo.
Starting point is 01:06:16 Okay, here's a good one. Biggest Disappointment. Okay, yep. All the Movie Delays. Yeah, probably. Disney's Artemis Fowl. Didn't watch it, don't give a shit. Birds of Prey. Yeah, I can see how that would be. Yeah, probably. Disney's Artemis Fowl. Didn't watch it, don't give a shit. Birds of Prey.
Starting point is 01:06:25 Yeah, I can see how that would be, I guess. Cyberpunk 2077. Didn't play it, but yeah, probably. Monster Hunter. Don't give a fuck. Slept through it. Mulan. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:34 The New Mutants. Tenet. Wonder Woman 1984. The entire year or other. I mean, the entire year. This is a big crowd. This is a crowded bracket. I mean, the delays were pretty brutal.
Starting point is 01:06:46 It got funny at a point, though. Once we knew it was happening, it became like, doesn't matter. You know, once we got, like, to June, it didn't matter. Look, I've got a few that I want to talk about. Tenet. Was that a big disappointment for you? I'd heard it wasn't great by the time I got around to it. So, no.
Starting point is 01:07:04 And I stand by my opinion of it, which was it was fine. Yeah. Well, maybe I'll get the Blu-ray. I'll give it another whirl and see if it's that improved. Wonder Woman 84. It was pretty disappointing. But it wasn't, for me, it wasn't like tragic. It wasn't like, I'm trying to think of a really big,
Starting point is 01:07:21 like the Predator, which was just like bafflingly stupid. Yeah, I guess you're right, yeah. Yeah. I'm trying to think of another superhero movie franchise that dropped so hard. Justice League? No. Oh, that's bad.
Starting point is 01:07:36 Yeah. Like even like the jump, the drop between like Iron Man and Iron Man 3 is not that bad. What about like Batman and Robin? Was that like a big drop off for you? Okay. What about the Matrix sequels when they came out? That was a big drop off, yeah, okay.
Starting point is 01:07:54 What about the Star Wars prequels? I mean, we need superhero movies. We're talking superheroes now. God, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. Highlander? They're superheroes. Okay, Sean.
Starting point is 01:08:04 Yeah, I guess. 84. Yeah, I don't know. Highlander? They're superheroes. Okay, Sean. Yeah, I guess. 84. Yeah, I kind of thought it was going to be fine, I guess, maybe. New Mutants, I never expected that to be good. Come on. Yeah. I was just surprised it came out. I didn't think Milan was going to be great.
Starting point is 01:08:16 I think it was on par. Yeah, fair. Again, here's the thing. I didn't play Cyberpunk. I was super excited about it for years. Yeah. Years, and I didn't buy it. But I think I can't legitimately say it's a disappointment
Starting point is 01:08:29 if I haven't paid money and been sucking into it and buying it. There's 100 hours of side missions, James. That's right. Monster Hunter, again, didn't see it. Artemis Fowl I went back and watched just because I'd seen a number of videos speaking about how weird and mangled and I only enjoyed it on that level when people like, you know, watch out for the weird ADR in every scene or like watch out for the MacGuffin that they've clearly like shoehorned
Starting point is 01:08:59 in with special effects, et cetera. So in that level I kind of enjoyed it. But I'm not an Artemis Fowl fan so I definitely couldn't throw it in there. You're not a Fowl head? No, that's right, exactly. I'm probably, I mean, I guess you could say the entire year in terms of release. I think that will probably win. You know what I liked this year?
Starting point is 01:09:15 I liked how people, and I can't say all over the world, but I'm saying like especially in Melbourne how people got together and like for the most part people like work together in a way that I expected people to not do. Well, that is happening some places. Yeah. And certainly some places here. I mean a few WhatsApp groups that are very unhappy.
Starting point is 01:09:33 Oh, boy. But look, if we're just talking about the place we live, I'm like I'm not disappointed in the entire year because I'm like I expected everybody in Melbourne to be like I'm not wearing a mask. Yeah. I'm going to go to whatever. But everybody like. everybody does it. And people are pretty civil if you're not wearing a mask.
Starting point is 01:09:50 Not that I've been sprung. But I've seen it happen where people are like, oh, you have to wear a mask. And they're like, oh, shit. And they'll just put it on. Cowards, obviously. Obviously cowards. I'm going to go with Tenet, though. I was about to say tenet because i mean it
Starting point is 01:10:05 was gonna be kind of i mean it was gonna be seven out of ten i expected like inception when when i first heard about it like that's what i'm going in with yeah i expected like a a because with inception and his other movies i'm you know part of me is like i'm a little bit lost but i'm enjoying where this is going and it feels yeah it feels coherent and it feels like stakes. And with Tenet I'm just like I don't know why a lot of people are doing this. Like I know in the Vegas sense why people are doing what they're doing but I'm like – One army's running backwards.
Starting point is 01:10:39 When you get to the finale, it's like who is shooting? Are they shooting at each other? I don't think they are. But where are the bad guys in this? It just seems to be two good guy armies shooting at nobody. And I, maybe I could understand this if I knew
Starting point is 01:10:55 what some of the words were saying. What about the bit where the building exploded backwards and upwards? That was pretty sweet. I think it probably was. But then it re-exploded in a different way, if you recall. It took me by surprise and my breath away. That's right. James, here's the results.
Starting point is 01:11:13 You ready for this? I'm ready. The biggest disappointment. And number one, sweeping it in at 47%. Nearly half the listeners the entire year. Yep, fair. And I think that's totally fair. Number two, all the movie delays at 13.3%.
Starting point is 01:11:25 Also totally fair. Number three, Cyberpunk 2077 at 10.3%. Then we've got Wonder Woman, Tenet, other votes for New Mutants and The Old
Starting point is 01:11:33 Guard. That's interesting. I mean, I... Disappointed? Yeah, that's interesting. Maybe if you're a big fan of the Old Guard
Starting point is 01:11:38 comic, it didn't quite live up to that. But I like the Old Guard comic. I'm saying you think that, but other people might have a slightly different opinion. They might have a better opinion.
Starting point is 01:11:46 They might have a less dumb. Just better. Yeah, just dumb. Oh, my God. It's time for our favourite award. Our signature award, you might say. I mean, the hair is, but this is... This started it all, I feel.
Starting point is 01:11:57 Also, Bloodshot. Biggest disappointment, Bloodshot. It was, wasn't it? Because I wish there was more Bloodshot, James. I wish it were Endgame style, four movies. Well, you're going to get at least one more. Yeah, nice. Good, good, good, good, good.
Starting point is 01:12:09 Winner of the Gameazon Award. Break down the Gameazon for us, Mason. James, this is an award where it is the – we give an award for the most ham-fisted attempt to build a – to tease a sequel or a franchise out of one movie. Yes. They've taken a big swing. They're like, we assume you like the idea behind this movie,
Starting point is 01:12:30 not even the execution of this movie, but just the idea behind this movie so much you will definitely be intrigued by the idea of a sequel or just a whole universe featuring these people. Exactly. Awful, these awful people. So some of these, though, are getting sequels, and I feel just because they've got an ending which hints towards something else happening. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:48 Doesn't qualify it. Well, this movie, this idea is very vague. Well, it started, people probably know this, but it started when we saw Dracula Untold. Yes. And at the very end, Charles Dance, who was the Dracula who died, we thought died. He says he appears in the modern day. In the modern day, 600 years later. Inexplicably.
Starting point is 01:13:05 And he's in British clothing. And it's daytime, but all the vampires are just hanging out. Yeah. And he says, let the games begin. And we thought it said Gamazon. That's why it's called this. That's why it's called this. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:15 And we went, what? And nobody wants this. It's sort of intriguing, but no, nobody wants this. What you imagine would be better than any sequel that they were to make to this. A lot of factors go into this. What you imagine would be better than any sequel that they were to make to this. It's not – a lot of factors go into this. Yeah. Whether the movie is good enough to warrant a sequel, whether this movie is a movie at all because in a lot of cases you watch a movie
Starting point is 01:13:35 like this and you go, that was barely a movie. It was just set up for a sequel. The mummy. Yeah, for sure. So we've got Artemis Fowl. Yeah, so I was going to say, so not necessarily a bad movie is going to take this. No, I feel like it's like an egregious, like, we know what you like, nerds. Like, to me, that's what makes it.
Starting point is 01:13:57 For sure, yeah, yeah. Like, it can't be a good movie that I liked. Maybe I've done this before, but then the promise is a sequel, but it doesn't get one. Do you know what I mean? Sometimes the rules are different every year. It doesn't matter. Yeah, yeah, and it evolves, I think, as well.
Starting point is 01:14:11 Oh, yeah. Because the movie... Cinema itself is a living being. The movie studio's techniques for tempting us, for trying to tempt us back for another movie keep changing just a little bit. Correct. So here are our options.
Starting point is 01:14:21 Artemis Fowl. Auntie Donna's Big Old House of Fun. Did that end with a...? Yeah, The Little Man was going to get revenge. Oh, The Little Man was going to get revenge. And we don't know whether options. Artemis Fowl. Aunty Donna's Big Ol' House of Fun. Did that end with a? Yeah, The Little Man was going to get revenge. Oh, The Little Man was going to get revenge. And we don't know whether they've got a season two yet. They might know, but we don't know. That's true.
Starting point is 01:14:31 And honestly, if you've watched, they did some watch along commentaries on their episodes. One of the things that the boys do very much enjoy is like a really unearned payoff. So like if there's an episode where they find the pirate's treasure and at the end they haven't really done anything to win the pirates, but then the pirate who died a million years ago and you saw her skeleton at the start of the episode just arrives in a warehouse and it's like, here's a billion dollars and then they all play catch. And Abraham Lincoln's there.
Starting point is 01:15:02 Anyway, so will anything pay off in the next season of this? Who knows? Probably not. Maybe it's going to be all callbacks. Some of the things that carry on I feel like are just things that they really just strongly like. Like Cow Doy is from a Halloween sketch from three years ago and they just folded it in to this and I love it.
Starting point is 01:15:22 Birds of Prey. I'm hoping to see the return of Dr. Gerald Spoofberger, who's a character who was in one of their live shows that we've never seen again. So in any medium, I don't think. So maybe. Anyway, Birds of Prey. Yep.
Starting point is 01:15:37 Bloodshot. I don't – okay, we'll do the – okay, Bloodshot. Doolittle. Extraction. Hellstrom. Monster Hunter, Sonic the Hedgehog, Quibi. Doolittle have also got a caveat, which I added.
Starting point is 01:15:52 Probably we didn't watch it. Just want to emphasize that. Because that was like, Matt, you're going to love this and you're going to love this character and it's going to be a Doolittle-averse and he's going to have children that you're going to watch the movies of. Is that so? But I guess, yeah, we don't. I don't know. How much set up was in this?
Starting point is 01:16:07 I guess it's a big. See, I think a lot of the idea of the game is on for Doolittle is our assumption that Robert Downey Jr. made it so he could have another big franchise that he was the star of, a la the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I don't think he put $250 million into a movie to make one. Is it his own money? No, but I feel like the whole-
Starting point is 01:16:29 Yeah, right, right. Because now he's like, well, no, we're doing a Sherlock-iverse. That's right, yeah. It's like he would have done a doodle-averse. Yeah, well then- I don't think it wins. I just, that's my- Okay, well, I mean, I think based on this idea, and again, the rules constantly change
Starting point is 01:16:43 and evolve. So I reckon that's in contention just because of just hubris, James. Hubris. Hubris is a big factor in this. Thy name is giant dragon with bagpipes up its ass. Okay, here's a little, here's a qualification. If you can imagine the people creating this making that face. What face?
Starting point is 01:17:02 You know, the face of like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they'll see it all over. This is what we're worth. They'll see it. That's true, actually, yeah. Factor that in. What face? You know, the face of like, yeah. Yeah. They'll see it in a little while. This is what Boomer was. That's true, actually, yeah. Factor that in. Can you imagine Robert Downey Jr. making that face? Of course you can.
Starting point is 01:17:12 It's his default setting. He's got resting face. Can you imagine Broden Kelly making it? Yeah, and he's got his tongue out. He's like, yeah. Okay, Birds of Prey. I don't think this is a game that is on Contender. I know at the end they're like.
Starting point is 01:17:30 It sets up a sequel. Yeah, it sets up a sequel, but I don't think. Also, it's sort of getting a sequel in the Suicide Squad, like the characters. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, I think also like Harley Quinn is like a big money maker. I know that movie didn't do particularly well, but I think it's an enduring character that people want to see in other things.
Starting point is 01:17:48 Maybe they should have called it Harley Quinn then. It's got a rename eventually, doesn't it? Probably. It did. Yeah, yeah, it got a rename eventually. Yeah, so look, I think in a lot of cases, anything that's in an established universe like the MCU or Birds of Prey can pretty much be pulled out of contention just because.
Starting point is 01:18:05 They're just going to keep making them. And also I can't imagine Margot Robbie being like. I can make them. Can you really? No, I don't know. Yeah. I don't really know anything about her. I think she would have been like, I hope this works.
Starting point is 01:18:16 And it kind of didn't. It didn't light the world on fire and people hated it. But I liked it and I think. I admire that she also, she produces a lot of her own stuff and she controls a lot of things that she does now, which is a really good way to put it. And I think that people should respect this opinion because she's Australian and we're Australian
Starting point is 01:18:37 and Australians, if nothing else, hate other Australians' success. We fucking hate them all. We hate it. So for us to be like, I'm glad she's making movies and I'm glad she's successful. That says something I reckon. That's a big deal for us. We wouldn't say the same of kick gurry. Kick gurry? Kick gurry. I like kick gurry.
Starting point is 01:18:52 I would say that of kick gurry. I wish him all the best. So Bloodshot is getting a say call but I didn't think it was too it didn't feel like get ready you fucking idiot. Like it felt like a natural, like, okay, yeah, this is.
Starting point is 01:19:10 It felt more like formulaic superhero. It didn't jump through hoops to be like, you're going to, you are going to be, your balls are going to explode because of how much of a sequel there's got to be to this. It's going to be incredible. Unlike Hellstrom. You know what they didn't do is they didn't jump in there with like, hey, you like this? Hey, who's that sitting at the cafe?
Starting point is 01:19:27 It's Turok Dinosaur Hunter. I would have loved that. Yeah, me too. Look, it's Bruce Willis from the movie Glass. He's here too. It's Magnus Robot Fighter. It's Turok and Magnus. They're fighting a robot dinosaur together.
Starting point is 01:19:38 What? Because that's their whole deal. They would do that together, yeah. It's Shadow Man. Like if the game is on for this, they would have just brought in all the Valium characters. Yeah, you're right. Or at least brought one in.
Starting point is 01:19:48 They would have brought one in, or, like, somebody, like, Exo Manowar tipping his sunglasses at the end, being like, oh, God, they're going to have words with you, Bloodshot. So it's out. Exactly. And it's the best move ever, mate. Didn't see Halstrom, but presumably they were like, get ready. The devil's here or something.
Starting point is 01:20:02 Oh, I didn't see Monsanto. Sonic is getting a sequel, and I don't think the inclusion of tales i think that's more i'd forgotten he was in that yeah he's in it who voiced tales someone famous somebody famous nice uh but i don't think that was more like traditional get ready for the sequel not like i don't know i think they didn't know it was going to do as well as it did yeah right i think it blindsided the studio if i'm honest but quibi like, like, for me it's between two. It's Quibi. I mean, monetarily it's Quibi.
Starting point is 01:20:30 Did we mention Extraction? Is that going to get a sequel? What happened at the end of Extraction? He came back at the end. Oh, he didn't die. He didn't die. That's fine. And it's getting a sequel.
Starting point is 01:20:37 Yeah, that's fine. I think it's fine. But Quibi, the money spent, we've talked about it, $1.5 billion of other people's money. Yeah. But then you've got Artemis Fowl, which to me is like, we're going to make Harry Potter. Yeah. That's clearly what they were at least initially going for.
Starting point is 01:20:52 James, you've thrown a spanner in the works here. Because a Harry Potter franchise is potentially billions of dollars. That's true, yeah. And Quibi lost $1.5 billion. Look, here are my options, right? One, Quibi, you're absolutely, that's the spanner. One of the spanners I'm talking about, Quibi, you're right. But I'm wondering if that should be gone out of contention,
Starting point is 01:21:14 not because it's a streaming service, but because it still feels to me like some sort of weird venture capitalist scam. Yeah, right. Like somebody got massively rich on this. I don't know who it was, but clearly somebody went, okay, if we just churn this through, then I'm going to get rich. Reese Witherspoon?
Starting point is 01:21:29 Maybe. Wasn't she on the board or something? Her husband did something. Anyway, I think some people – see, that feels more like a pyramid scheme or a Ponzi scheme than any actual – I don't think they were like, people are going to love this Fifty Shades of Horror or whatever it was. I think they're just going to be like, this is just like the biggest, we're going to produce some crap and the people in this room are going to get rich and it doesn't matter about anything else. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:54 I think the people who are involved in this, I think a lot of them were genuinely like, oh, I get to do a little, you know, like a streaming thing and people are going to see it and it's going to be great. There's clearly some creator-driven stuff with money behind it. So I'm going to say, biggest thing that will probably be revealed to be a scam in a few years' time award is going to go to Quibi. Or by the time this episode goes up. Maybe it's already been revealed. But for me,
Starting point is 01:22:17 it would probably be between Artemis Fowl, which I have seen, and Doolittle, which I have not seen. These feel both... I haven't seen either. Just the idea of we're gonna build this and you're gonna love it and here's our face but i reckon i haven't seen do little but again that's that's no that's no barrier for us to give it the award yeah i think artemis foul if i think maybe it started it definitely started out as we're gonna have our own harry potter yeah but if you watch it it really does feel like we made a movie and then there was a death spiral of people not liking it
Starting point is 01:22:51 or like families, what do you call it? Test screenings. I reckon there was a test screening death spiral, several of them, and then they just panicked and were like, what can we do? We can't make him evil. I think the movie that eventually came out on Disney Plus was like, this is the best we can do. I don't think they're like, we're going to see can we do with this? We can't make him evil. I think the movie that eventually came out on Disney Plus was like, this is the best we can do. I don't think they're like, we're going to see some sequels to this.
Starting point is 01:23:09 I think it started as that. I think because also, aren't they doing Percy Jackson? Yes. So I think they're looking for something like that and I think this initially was going to be that. Yeah. But even though it didn't end up being that, I think it very much ended up as let's just shove this out.
Starting point is 01:23:23 Yeah. Look, for me, I think it's going to be a movie. I haven't seen Doolittle. It's based entirely on Robert Downey Jr.'s face. I'm going to say Artemis Fowl. Let's see what the listeners say. Let's see what they say. Are you ready for this?
Starting point is 01:23:35 Best thing where the game is on. Number one, Quibi, 28%. Number two, Auntie Donna's Big Old House of Fun, 24%. Got him. Got him. Artemis Fowl, 11.4%. Sonic, 10.9%. Doolittle, probably weis Fowl, 11.4%. Sonic, 10.9%. Doolittle, probably we didn't watch it, 5.9%.
Starting point is 01:23:48 Yeah, interesting. Look, I think Aunty Donna's taking some stuff away just because people like Aunty Donna. Yes. They want to go this. But, James, I'm a simple man. I see Aunty Donna, I click Aunty Donna. That's right.
Starting point is 01:23:57 I'm watching that second season. It's happening no matter what. Very interesting. Yeah. Best TV show. Yeah. Aunty Donna's big old House of Fun. So many here. Better Call Saul season. Yeah. Best TV show. Yeah. Auntie Donna's Big Old House of Fun.
Starting point is 01:24:05 So many here. Better Call Saul season. And I, okay. And I volunteered to read this, so I'm mad about it. We can go back and forth. No, no, I'm going to do it. Better Call Saul season five. Bojack Houseman season six. The Boys season two.
Starting point is 01:24:17 The Crown season four. Death to 2020. Yep. Devs. Doctor Who season 12. Doom Patrol season two. Harley Quinn season two. Hellstrom. His Dark Materials season two. Doctor Who Season 12. Doom Patrol Season 2. Harley Quinn Season 2. Hellstrom.
Starting point is 01:24:27 His Dark Materials Season 2. Fargo Season 4. Gotta watch that. The Good Place. Lovecraft Country. This year? Apparently. Fuck.
Starting point is 01:24:34 Lovecraft Country. The Mandalorian Season 2. The Queen's Gambit. Raised by Wolves. Good show. Schitt's Creek. Star Trek Discovery Season 3. Fell off.
Starting point is 01:24:43 Star Trek Picard. Crap. Ted Lasso. Loved it. Star Trek Discovery Season 3. Fell off. Star Trek Picard. Crap. Ted Lasso. Loved it. Tiger King. Awful. The Great. Pretty good.
Starting point is 01:24:50 The Umbrella Academy Season 2. Liked it. The Undoing. Can't remember what that is. I like to say the Undoing. Undoing. Yeah, yeah. This thing's doinging so much.
Starting point is 01:25:00 What are we doing? Oh, that's that. We're going to bring in a specialist. Yeah, that was all right. To undoing it. Westworld was last year. Was it? Okay, then it's out. Ozark. Search Party.
Starting point is 01:25:10 This is a, look, you've seen more of these than I have, I think. Fucking hell. Oh no, Westworld was this year. Okay, great. I apologise. God. Okay, I'm just going to name the ones that I like a lot. The most. Aunty Donna was amazing and I've watched that three times.
Starting point is 01:25:26 Again, Australian and also we know them. So if we were going to shoot down anything, it's called tall poppy syndrome, people should look it up. If we were going to shoot down anybody it would be them. It would be like, I hope they all fall into a ditch. But I don't hope they fall into a ditch. It's a good show. I hope they climb a big
Starting point is 01:25:41 mountain which people have dug out of the ditch to make. The opposite of a ditch. Terrific. Better Call Saul's amazing. Bojack I didn't finish. The Boys was amazing. The Crown I fucking despise despite never having seen it. Why's that? Because I hate the Royals. You hate the Royals, okay.
Starting point is 01:25:57 See, that's the thing. If we go down here, let me see. I know it doesn't paint them in a particularly flattering light. Like Search Party, everybody's awful. And in Season 3, they're just the worst. They're the it doesn't paint them in a particularly flattering light, but fucking more. Like Search Party, everybody's awful. And in season three, they're just the worst. They're the worst people, but it's a good show and part of the appeal. So maybe if you watch The Crown, you'd be like,
Starting point is 01:26:15 I love how horrible these people are. No. I don't think you would. No, I don't think I would. Death to 2020 was good. Did you watch that, the Charlie Brooker thing? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I really like Devs. Yeah, I like Devs a lot.
Starting point is 01:26:22 Is that getting another season? What's going on with Devs? No, I think it's kind of, I won't spoil it, I guess, but it kind of wraps up in a way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I really like Devs. Yeah, I like Devs a lot. Is that getting another season? What's going on with Devs? No, I think it's kind of, I won't spoil it, I guess, but it kind of wraps up in a way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, I mean, that's great. I love a one and done. So that's good.
Starting point is 01:26:32 Doctor Who Season 12, I watched the first two or three episodes of something. I don't like it. Yeah, I've heard people don't like it. I mean, look, again, I've said it a million times. I love the concept of Doctor Who. There are some standout episodes. Maybe I should watch the whole set.
Starting point is 01:26:46 Maybe there's a standout. If there was a standout episode in Doctor Who Season 12, somebody let me know because I would have liked to see it. I like Jodie Whittaker. Yeah, me too. I feel like, yeah, from what I've heard, she's good, but the storylines aren't doing her justice. You know, I also kind of like some of the supporting characters.
Starting point is 01:26:59 It's like an old bloke, some young people. It's like eight people, isn't it? Yeah, there's a lot of companions this season. Doom Patrol, still going strong. I've got to watch that. Yeah, it's really good. Did I loan you the DVD? No, I didn't.
Starting point is 01:27:08 No. I'll bring it over. I don't have a DVD player. I've got a Blu-ray. It's a Blu-ray. I don't have a Blu-ray player. You've got a PlayStation. That's not a PlayStation.
Starting point is 01:27:14 What are you doing? What is happening here? It's on things, isn't it? Isn't it just on things? Doom Patrol. I can just rent it. It's fine. Yeah, it's true.
Starting point is 01:27:21 From my local blockbuster. Well, that's true. Harley Quinn season two. Really liked it. I preferred season one From my local blockbuster. Well, that's true. Harley Quinn season two. Really liked it. I preferred season one, I think. I like them both. Oh, because it goes to otherworldly, dark side, world ending stuff. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:32 Is that why? Yeah, it did. And the first one was like fun little adventures. You know what happened? I think it's probably because I watched them all. I think if I did another watch, I think I'd probably enjoy it just as much, but I think it's probably because I just did them all in such a short amount of time.
Starting point is 01:27:48 I think maybe I was exhausted at the end. Yeah, okay. And I don't know, maybe, I mean, Harley Quinn as a concept does work really well in just Gotham City and et cetera. And they had to tread some new ground for the second season. That's good. You know, it's good. Oh, I really liked it.
Starting point is 01:28:03 It's good. Hellstrom didn't watch it. His Dark Materials, look. I've. That's good. You know it's good. Oh, I really liked it. It's good. Hellstrom didn't watch it. Dark Materials, look. I've heard it's good. It's only getting one more season. If Daniel Craig's not involved, I'm not. Get your Golden Compass stuff out of here. Your Lin-Manuel Miranda's, they're not doing it for you?
Starting point is 01:28:17 Yeah, get out of here. Fargo, I've seen the first one of and I've got to keep watching. The Good Place. Good finale. Nice. If we were giving out an award for just a nice show that's nice. It's watching. The Good Place. Yeah, wrapped up. Good finale. Nice. Good finale. Great. If we were giving out an award for just a nice show that's nice. It's true.
Starting point is 01:28:28 Yeah. Maybe next year. Lovecraft Country, I got four in. I've got to finish that off, so I can't say whether or not. Why did you not go for that? Yeah, well, that's the thing. That's what I'm just thinking about. I can't think of a specific reason why. Just not compelling?
Starting point is 01:28:40 No, it starts really strong, and I think the last one I saw was strong, but it kind of dipped in them. Anyway, it doesn't matter. It's not my favorite. Mandalorian season two. Yeah, I like it. I think a good show that is nice. I think that goes in there.
Starting point is 01:28:51 It's just like it's like a bit of fan service. It's a bit of fun. You never thought you'd win the good show that was nice award, did you? The Mandalorian. Yeah, but I think like the idea of like. You thought you'd win the Star Wars award for true fans Star Wars show. It's doing all the right things. The real fans.
Starting point is 01:29:05 They're remaking the last Jedi. That's right. Yeah, but I think it is a nice show that people generally like because it does pretty solid basic Star Wars stuff. And it's got a cute character in The Mandalorian, obviously, and an even cuter character in Grogu, the little man, the little green man. Two cute boys. Two cute boys going on little adventures.
Starting point is 01:29:26 They're the Calvin and Hobbes. They really are. Of Star Wars. And it's all pretty wholesome. Yeah. In a way, there's Star Wars violence, but it's kind of like. It's Star Wars violence. It's kind of like, do this for me, and we did it.
Starting point is 01:29:41 Now we mutual respect us two, me and you. Maybe you'll show up in the finale That's right So it's nice The Queen's Gambit I liked it But I didn't love it Okay great
Starting point is 01:29:50 Raised by wolves Weird and awful But good Okay Schitt's Creek Yeah I actually just finished that How'd you go with that? I was kind of disappointed
Starting point is 01:30:00 That it just ended Right Because it doesn't end on like a It's just a nice show. It's a nice show. I loved it. I really liked it. But I didn't know it was ending.
Starting point is 01:30:10 Like it didn't feel like it was ending. Then I'm like, there's two left. Yeah. I think it's because they, so if you haven't seen Schitt's Creek, a lot of people are like, I don't like, if you start at season one, a lot of people are like, I don't like this. Yeah. I don't quite know.
Starting point is 01:30:23 And why should I keep watching it? And then by like, if you, if lot of people are like, I don't like this. Yeah. I don't quite know and why should I keep watching it? And then by, like if you sort of power through. Then you've watched, yeah, then you watch a lot of episodes and you're like, I love this. And I think it's probably because they abandoned the premise at a certain point. Because the idea is that they were a formerly rich family and they lost everything except for a town they bought as a joke.
Starting point is 01:30:41 Yeah. And now they have to live there in a motel. Yeah. And I think at a certain point they weren't like, oh, the sink doesn't work. Yeah. It's like less of that. And it's also less of like how do we become rich again?
Starting point is 01:30:52 Yeah. It's just kind of like. I mean it is also that, but yeah. Yeah, yeah. And it's kind of like, well, okay, it's just us interacting and having nice interactions with the, these wacky townsfolk aren't that bad. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:04 Let's all just be friends and have boyfriends and girlfriends or whatever. Yeah, exactly, because it does, like, it has that representation and there's no, there's literally no, like, even though it is, like, a small, like, backwater town. Yeah. There's no, like, a man can't kiss a man. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:18 It's just, like, who cares as long as everyone's happy. That's a nice show. It is a nice show. Star Trek Discovery Season 3, you said you dropped off. I dropped well off that. I reckon it's still a good, solid show, and I think they're going in good, fun places. Well, I like the idea of being in the future future,
Starting point is 01:31:32 but I didn't. Okay, all right. Well, I'll take a breather. You're going to go down the beach or something. I'll probably come back to it. So maybe try then. Star Trek Picard, I dropped off this one. Bad.
Starting point is 01:31:42 What makes it bad, though? It's wrong. It just feels wrong. It feels. What makes it bad, though? It's wrong. It just feels wrong. It feels weird and wrong. Interesting, right? And nobody, anybody, like, doesn't line up with anything that I know, and I don't know anything. But, like, even the movies it doesn't fit.
Starting point is 01:31:55 Yeah, right. And it's sort of, it mostly adheres to, like, the movie timeline and the movie Picard. But even then, not that much. And, again, nobody feels like anybody. Yeah, nobody likes the movie Picard. No. then not that much. And again, nobody feels like anybody. Yeah, nobody likes the movie Picard. No. Like the movie versions.
Starting point is 01:32:09 I mean, it's fun. And then there's like there's Riker and Riker kind of feels like Riker and he's got a little pizza oven and whatever. Oh, I'm back in. But it's like clones and droid people. And at the end they put him in a droid body and they're like, but it's exactly the same as your regular body and you're going to die in eight years. And it's like, what?
Starting point is 01:32:28 And then Data, like the whole thing, I'm going to spoil it. The whole thing is about Data and finding Data. That's part of it because Data is responsible for the creation of a realistic human android. And then he finds him and then he's like, Picard, I want you to do one last thing for me. I want you to kill me. I'm like, what are we even doing?
Starting point is 01:32:44 Why? And then at the end it's like, Picard, I want you to do one last thing for me. I want you to kill me. I'm like, what are we even doing here? What? And then at the end it's like, there's a million ships. The Federation is here and there's a million. Oh, they rise up Skywalker. Yeah, and there's a moment where they're like, Picard goes to speak to the Federation. And they're like, fuck you, Picard. They're dropping F-bombs. Like, what are you doing?
Starting point is 01:33:01 What are you making? You're old and slow, Picard. Go to hell. Like, it's just doesn't – and I'm not even a huge fan, like, of Star Trek. We know. You nearly said Star Wars just then. Yeah, I was going to say Star Trek. But I don't know. Well, that's the thing because I think there's a lot – you know,
Starting point is 01:33:20 as a man who is currently 21 to 25 years old or possibly a different age, at a certain point you really start to appreciate narratives about like, oh, this is maybe a character you like and they're getting old and the world is moving on without them. That's why I was looking forward to this. And I didn't feel compelled for that and I don't know why because I'm like I always liked Picard and I like Patrick Stewart and I'm not sure why this doesn't. I like some of the new characters andard and I like Patrick Stewart. Yeah. And I'm not sure why this doesn't.
Starting point is 01:33:46 I like some of the new characters and some of the old, whatever. Yeah. Star Trek. Oh, sorry, Ted Lasso. Loved it. Haven't seen it. I might make that my number one. Did he start out as a character in an ad or something?
Starting point is 01:33:58 Maybe. I think he did. Yeah. Tiger King, it's a good show. But shut up. And it was a million, it came out a billion years ago, so it's out of contention. And maybe it would have disappeared if we weren't all sort of preparing to go into, like if this was a pandemic year,
Starting point is 01:34:16 it might have disappeared with every other sort of weirdo documentary on Netflix. Yeah, sure. And you don't have to like the characters, nor should you like the characters. And you won't. But it is fascinating. It is.
Starting point is 01:34:28 But, again, I dropped off because I didn't. Yeah. The Great. I like The Great. That's really good. Yeah, good solid show. Umbrella Academy Season 2. Good.
Starting point is 01:34:35 Good show. The Undoing. What was that again? The Hugh Grant one. Oh, it's fine. It's like trashy, but it's good. Westworld Season 3. Good.
Starting point is 01:34:43 I like future stuff. It's good, but I also think I mentioned it when we talked about it. It's a filler season, I think. On the way towards Mad Max, maybe? Yeah, I feel like they went, we've got to get another season out of this. And at the end of season two, Dolores went out into the real world to just wreck the shop, to just be like, I'm going to kill all of humanity because of what they've done.
Starting point is 01:35:04 And in this one, she's like, no, actually we should save the world from this one guy with his big ball. Remember he had a big ball that could see the future? He had a big ball that could see the future. Yeah, and I feel like they just went, how can we drag this out? Maybe she'll do all the killing next season. I don't know if we get her next season. I don't watch Ozark.
Starting point is 01:35:19 I do and I like it. Okay. It's good. Search Party, I hate them all and it's a really good show. For me I think it's between Search Party and Ted Lasso, which is interesting because one is like the nicest man in the world and this is like the most awful people. So what about you then?
Starting point is 01:35:32 Bloodshot. Fuck. If you had to pick a second. Oh, okay, right. Obviously Bloodshot again. Might be Devs. I like just no spoilers for people, but if it's... That's right.
Starting point is 01:35:44 Sometimes there's spoilers and sometimes there isn't. That's right. I mean, it's Alex Garland who wrote Sunshine. Yeah. Your favourite movie. No, but other things that I do like. Yeah, really interesting and a great turn from... What's his face?
Starting point is 01:35:56 The guy, the main guy, Ron Swanson. His real name. What's his real name? What's his name? What's his name? What's his name? The guy. He's married to the lady.
Starting point is 01:36:03 She's also got a name. What's his name? What's his name? The man and the lady, they're married. They're married. Maybe I'll get her name first. What's his name? What's his name? What's his name? What's he doing? He's married to the lady. She's also got a name. What's his name? What's her name? The man and the lady, they're married. They're married. Maybe I'll get her name first. What's his name? What's his name?
Starting point is 01:36:10 What's his name? Nick Offerman. Nick Offerman, there we go. And Megan Mullally, there we go. They're working together. That's their names. That's their names. She's not in that, but he's in this,
Starting point is 01:36:18 and he's playing against type as just a, he's not a lovable man in this. No. But he's a complicated man. And no one understands him but his dead family. Oh, yeah, no, also that. Yeah, he's a complicated man and it's a really interesting idea, I think. I agree.
Starting point is 01:36:34 Yeah. I liked it too. So maybe that. But I'm going to, yeah, I'm going to go Ted Lasso because it's nice. Also, you're right, he started as like an NBC Sports kind of joke kind of thing. Yes. And it's a nice man who doesn't know anything about soccer or football, as they say in the York.
Starting point is 01:36:49 Football. Yeah. The great game. Yeah, where Domhnall Gleeson's from. We get your emails. Watch this, James. Watch this. You ready for it?
Starting point is 01:36:58 I'm going to do it. Okay. Domhnall Gleeson is an Irish actor. We're both aware of this. Have you seen, James, the latest movie with Domhnall Gleeson, the British actor. We're both aware of this. Have you seen, James, the latest movie with Domhnall Gleeson, the British actor? Yeah, I have actually. He's great.
Starting point is 01:37:08 He's one of my favourite British actors. Bearing in mind we are both aware that he is Irish. But? But he's a great British actor. Now we wait for the emails to roll in. This is a little game we play. This is how the sausage is made. We say we are aware that he's Irish,
Starting point is 01:37:25 and then we make a joke about him being British, and then we wait for hate emails to roll in. Yeah, exactly. It's a lot of fun, if I'm honest with you. It's like setting up a bunch of rakes. No, one rake. One rake. Just to see who will step on it.
Starting point is 01:37:38 We appreciate the engagement. We point out that it's a rake. We're like, look at this. Don't step on the rake. It's dangerous. Anyway, here's one. Best comic. Oh, what did you pick?
Starting point is 01:37:48 Sorry. Oh, we've got to do the results. Oh, the listeners. Sorry. We forgot about the listeners. I'll do them. Best TV show. The Mandalorian, 31%.
Starting point is 01:37:55 Auntie Donna, 18%. The Boys, season two, 14%. Better Call Saul, season five then. Ted Lasso, Umbrella Academy, Good Place, Queen's Gambit, Too Close to Call, then Harley Quinn was great. Yeah. Number six. So, yeah, great choices all around.
Starting point is 01:38:09 Watch Ted Lasso, though. You should. It's great. It's so good. Best comic. Oh, my God. I haven't read some of these. Yep.
Starting point is 01:38:15 But some of them I have, and they are good. Batman 3 Jokers. Bog Bodies. Yeah, Bog Bodies is good. Billionaire Island. I like that. Daredevil. Didn't read any of these.
Starting point is 01:38:22 Darth Vader. Yeah, really good. Far Sector. What is that? Deceased. Yep, good. Gideon Falls. Yep, good. Daredevil. Didn't read any of this. Darth Vader. Yeah, really good. Far Sector. What is that? Deceased. Yep, good. Gideon Falls. Yep, good.
Starting point is 01:38:28 The Immortal Hulk. John Constantine Hellblazer. Marvel's X-Books. Marvel Zombies Resurrection. Oh, a couple of zombie things this year. Pulp. Star Wars Transformers vs. The Terminator. Oh, yeah, I did watch that.
Starting point is 01:38:41 Read that. I also read it. What do you think? Based on this. What do you think? It's kind of fun. Yeah, it is. It's not like life-changing but yeah it does all the things that it should do and it's set so it's that i i guess the linking material is for transformers versus the terminator is the originals are both set in 1984 yeah and it's a kind of a
Starting point is 01:39:00 it's kind of a um a it's a it's a bit it's it's subverting some expectations, you might say. A little bit. A little bit. But they've basically built a kind of convoluted way for it to be like the Autobots versus the Decepticons and Transformers are involved and Sarah Connor is involved, like the 1980 Sarah Connor is involved and et cetera. And it also does some interesting things of like the Decepticons
Starting point is 01:39:22 hate the Terminators when you think they'd team up. Right, they're subverting those expectations. The art's great. Bog Bodies I really liked. Darth Vader, I liked all the Star Wars stuff from this year, but Darth Vader I really enjoy. That's the one that whenever it's out I'm like, oh, fuck yeah, there's one this week.
Starting point is 01:39:37 You know what I have enjoyed? The Immortal Hulk. I think it hasn't set a foot wrong. I think it's just a great series generally. One that's not on here is Something is Killing the Children. I've been reading about spooky creatures in the forest that kill children. Spooky creatures in the forest? Kill children.
Starting point is 01:39:54 I give you Falls is a good spooky comic as well. I haven't read John Constantine, but I've got Far Sector open here. I've never heard of that, so I'm going to download an episode of that. You know what I'm talking about. Have you read Far Sector? No, what's it about? I don't know. It's just on here. What would you say, though? I'm going to say Immortal Hulk.
Starting point is 01:40:11 That was mine. Yeah, fair enough. I'm going to say the thing I said, whatever that was. Best comic, here's the results from the listeners. Darth Vader. Then Batman 3 Jokers. Trey Jokers. I didn't like it. I think it's an interesting idea, but I think there's not... There was not a revelation. For people who don't know, in think there's not, there was not a revelation.
Starting point is 01:40:27 So for people who don't know, in the DC universe, apparently there was three, we all assume there's one Joker, but it turns out in this particular universe there were three Jokers. Why were there three Jokers? The result will not shock you. It's just fairly, I don't know. And who cares? Daredevil.
Starting point is 01:40:40 A lot of people like Daredevil. I wonder what this year's Daredevil is all about. Has he revealed his identity again? I'm always hearing Daredevil's amazing. Is he his's Daredevil is all about. Has he revealed his identity again? I'm almost hearing Daredevil's amazing. Is he his own lawyer? Maybe. What's going on? Is She-Hulk involved?
Starting point is 01:40:51 Is She-Hulk involved? Probably not. I reckon he's probably... Is he killing again? Because sometimes he's like... Sometimes he's not killing. Sometimes I'm like, I'll never take a human life, and then sometimes he's like, I'm killing everybody. Every day I'm going to kill.
Starting point is 01:41:00 Deceased is in there. I really liked it. And the Immortal Hulk is at number five. Just behind Deceased. You should read Deceased. You don't like that zombie stuff the way I do, do you? No, not there. Yeah, really liked it. And the Immortal Hulk is at number five. Just behind Deceased. Yeah. You should read Deceased. You don't like that zombie stuff the way I do, do you? No, not really.
Starting point is 01:41:09 No, no, no. Deceased is really good though. If you like Injustice, you'll like Deceased. Okay then. Actually, I think you have read some. I've read some of Deceased. I read it up until they went to space. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:18 Yeah. Well, then they come back from space. Okay. Best video game. I'm excited to learn the results of this because I played like two video games this year. Yeah, I'm looking at this list and I'm like, there's a lot of these I've not played. Okay, here we go. We'll run through them anyway.
Starting point is 01:41:30 Animal Crossing New Horizons. Here's a question. People are loving it. People are loving it and I think it's because... Fun, summer fun. Fun, summer fun. Everybody's nice on your island. You do a little bit of fishing.
Starting point is 01:41:40 You do a little bit of fishing. You wait for your neighbours. The little man shows up and he plays a little concert. Yep. And I wonder if it would have... There are a bunch of games on this list. I wonder if there were no pandemic, they would have kicked off. Yeah, it's interesting.
Starting point is 01:41:53 The way... I think Animal Crossing has always been popular, but that exploded this year. Yeah, yeah, yeah. These are all in alphabetical order. One that isn't on here that I think probably might be a write-in is probably Among Us. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:42:04 The Werewolf-esque game. People are bloody loving it. People on Twitch are loving it. People are making up their own play styles in this game. They're making it up. They're having a grand time with that. So that's on there. Maybe we'll write that in.
Starting point is 01:42:16 Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Yep. I would like to get to that. It goes on for a million years apparently. I'm never going to play it. Play the last one apparently. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. Don't know. Oh, my God. Just digital Ronald Reagan I'm never going to play it. Play the last one, apparently. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. Don't know.
Starting point is 01:42:25 Oh, my God. Just digital Ronald Reagan. I'd love to see it. I was thinking about buying it because I'm like, I haven't played a Call of Duty game since Modern Warfare, like Call of Duty 4. Like 2008 or whatever that was. Oh, like before that.
Starting point is 01:42:36 Like when it went Call of Duty 1, 2, 3, Modern Warfare. Yeah. That's the last one I played. Yeah, that was like 2008, wasn't it? Oh, maybe. I don't know. It's been a long time. And I'm like, I would watch, I'd play Black Ops.
Starting point is 01:42:46 They're pretty solid shooters. It's cool 80s and they've got Blue Monday in there probably. Blue Monday. And I'm like, ugh, Reagan. Right. Unless you shoot him in the head. I don't think you do shoot him in the head. Yeah, I think he dies of natural causes in real life.
Starting point is 01:42:59 Like in real life, yeah. Yeah, I think you should have an option to shoot him in the head. Anyway, Cyberpunk 2077. Yeah. Demon's Souls got a remaster. Yep, yep. Looks really good play that uh good four guys i played a lot of yeah there's there's another one that the internet i think really definitely embraced uh because of the pandemic final fantasy 7 remake people are loving it people are loving it yeah i will probably still play that even though uh it did get the it did get spoiled for me.
Starting point is 01:43:26 I'm not interested in Final Fantasy. That's fair enough. I loved the original back in the day. Cloud, Sephiroth. Yes, that's right. Arithetifa. Barret. You big gun. Anyway, Ghost of Tsushima.
Starting point is 01:43:41 Loved it. You loved it. I should get onto that. Hades, people loving Hades. Gotta play Hades. I don I should get on to that. Hades, people are loving Hades. Got to play Hades. I don't know what the deal is with Hades, but it looks pretty good. Half-Life Alyx. So for the two people in the world who have a VR headset. That looks incredible. People are like, this is engaging and incredible.
Starting point is 01:43:57 If you're behind a car and somebody's shooting at you, you can open the car door and use it as a shield to block bullets while you're shooting. Yeah, that's cool. There's very cool environmental stuff in it, but I'd have to move my coffee table. You'd have to move your coffee table. And you can't lift it.
Starting point is 01:44:12 That's right, it's too heavy. One that's not on here that I've just started playing again is Need for Speed Hopper Shoot, which was 2010 minutes of the remake. Exactly right. It's like my favourite racing game of all time, and they remade it. It's on the Switch, and I love it. Even more than Fast and Furious Family Races or whatever it's called. The one game of all time and they remade it it's on the Switch and I love it even more than
Starting point is 01:44:25 Fast and Furious Family Races or whatever it's called the one I never played that I bought the thing about that game what I like about it is it's not open world
Starting point is 01:44:32 you don't have to drive to a mission or listen to anybody talk it's just do the races or be a police car and use spike strips and that's like it yeah okay right
Starting point is 01:44:41 simplicity is key it's great Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity. Yeah, I heard good things. I've not heard good things. Oh. It's just Breath of the-
Starting point is 01:44:48 I think if you love Hyrule- Yeah. I'm not sorry, if you love- Breath of the Wild. No, no, no, all that, but that style of game, whatever they call it. Oh, yeah. You know what I mean.
Starting point is 01:44:56 The Waves of Enemy, Chopper Moth kind of game. There's a specific- I can't remember what they call it. I don't know. I still haven't played Breath of the Wild, so I don't know. But it looks to me like a very simple version of that. You know how Breath of the Wild is like, oh, it's so immersive
Starting point is 01:45:07 and everything is amazing. This is just like, yeah, you just chop and pay the money. It's got the mechanics of a different franchise. Immortals Fenyx Rising. That's like the Breath of the Wild thing, isn't it? Immortals Fenyx Rising. Yeah, it's like the Ubisoft version of that. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:45:19 But they spell Fenyx F-E-N-Y-X, so that's very cool. That's how I spell it. Last of Us Part 2. Yeah, I liked it. It's too long. And, yeah, the things I don't like about it are like I've talked about, but just like it's all like what does it even mean? What am I going to do?
Starting point is 01:45:34 Oh, yeah, yeah. And then you kill like 80 people. Then it's like, but what? I'm so tortured. I just killed 80 people. Yeah, yeah. And they all shouted out the names of their wives as they died. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:45:44 Yeah. Yeah. Or somebody else's wife. What know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. Or somebody else's wife. What? Yeah, right? Marvel's Avengers. Bad. Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Starting point is 01:45:52 Apparently amazing, especially if you love that. Also, again, for this year, probably like a game that got more traction. Because you can visit the Eiffel Tower or whatever the fuck. Apparently most people visit their house. Like the first thing you do is you get in the plane and you're like, oh, I'll just fly to where I live. You know what I did like? Can you land?
Starting point is 01:46:09 I don't think so. Can you pat your own dog? Yeah, you can land and visit yourself and kill yourself and then you die in real life and then you're in the game. That's how Reagan died. Yeah, that's right. What I liked about it, I didn't play it, but what I liked about Microsoft Flight Simulator
Starting point is 01:46:22 is that there's some weird glitches where you're flying along and like the game can't calculate a particular building so it becomes like a 10 000 story monolith or whatever and it's just like but i i kind of wish i i would prefer a day i would prefer a game kind of game like this where there's just weird stuff to discover in it you know when back in the day there'd be a game like this and it'd be you'd be like okay but if you go here. There's a nudist beach or whatever. Or like, you know, there's a portal to hell.
Starting point is 01:46:50 Yeah, totally. That's not in real life. But they wouldn't do it these days. They'd be like, this is for the real aficionados. This is going to be accurate kind of thing. Spider-Man Miles Morales. Really good. Star Wars Squadrons.
Starting point is 01:47:03 Didn't like it. Watchdog's Legion. Not interested. And Yakuza Like a Dragon. Really good. Star Wars Squadrons. Didn't like it. Watchdog's Legion. Not interested. And Yakuza Like a Dragon. Apparently good-ish. Very silly. Looks silly. For me, it's definitely Ghost of Tsushima.
Starting point is 01:47:14 It's like Assassin's Creed, but if they made a good one. Yeah. And it's really tight and the side missions are good and the combat's amazing. Yeah. It's definitely that. What about you? Well, of the two games I played this year.
Starting point is 01:47:25 Also, Hades I really want to play. Yeah. Because everybody's like, it's the best fucking game ever made. Yeah. Yep. It's definitely that. What about you? Well, of the two games I played this year. Also, Hades I really want to play. Yeah. Because everybody's like, it's the best fucking game ever made. Look, Doom Eternal, very solidly made, too tough for me. Yeah. You didn't think about getting good? I didn't want to. Okay.
Starting point is 01:47:39 I mean, I did play other games, but they didn't come out this year. I had no compulsion to play Doom Eternal. Yeah. I think a lot of people liked the platforming in it. Yeah, yeah. But not for me. I think I would have preferred like the- You said it was dumb and lame. No, I said it was good and cool and uncool.
Starting point is 01:47:56 I think I would have preferred like the gameplay of the first one, but like with the updated character designs of the second one. Okay, yeah. And the dumb lore, which I like. Yeah, yeah. Everybody else hates apparently. Okay. But maybe I should give it another crack.
Starting point is 01:48:09 Like I'll get good with all the different rock, paper, scissors mechanics and maybe I'll get good. But I like Spider-Man Miles Morales. It didn't change the world, but it's a good, nice game. And good characters, good music. But, yeah, it's essentially, yeah, it is. It's like Spider-Man 0.5. Exactly, yeah. Which one? It came in at 18%. Oh, it's essentially, yeah, it is. It's like Spider-Man 0.5. Exactly, yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:26 Which one? It came in at 18%. Oh, yeah, right, right, right. Followed by Last of Us Part II at 16%. Then Ghost of Tsushima, Animal Crossing, then New Horizons, then Cyberpunk Doom Eternal Hades, Too Close to Call. Ooh.
Starting point is 01:48:40 Number five. Here we go. Best meme or thing Mason loves. Okay, great. Should I read these ones? Yeah, please do. I'll turn it to No Time to Die titles. I love go. Best meme or thing Mason loves. Okay, great. Should I read these ones? Yeah, please do. I'll turn it to No Time to Die titles. I love them.
Starting point is 01:48:49 Me too. I really do. As a dad, look at Where's Thin? I still do it. But I understand it's Bruce Willis tangents. We've got to get to that mystery. I love it. I'll do it every week.
Starting point is 01:48:59 Look, I would pivot to just Bruce Willis talk if we could. We should have a Bruce Willis segment this year. What's he releasing this month? What movie is in this? Oh, we should watch one every couple of months. Oh, that would hurt. We should. Harry Potter and the Half Brick Prince.
Starting point is 01:49:15 That was a fun bit that people liked where you said you could take out all the Death Eaters with half a brick, which I believe would happen. Mission Impossible Magic Trick. That was our style of magic taught me how to do that. But, yeah, that is. I'm getting ready for it. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do for the next three that we do we should watch Mission Impossible movies we should watch Now You See Me movies
Starting point is 01:49:32 and you should do some tricks from that I absolutely should you should learn mesmerism Jurassic Snark yep he hasn't been back for a while but maybe he'll come back one day Mason's best friends with all the listeners that's true I am I hang out all the time. Nick Mason and definitely not James' crush on the Fox from Robin Hood.
Starting point is 01:49:50 It's you, though. No, that's you. No, you love him. Off the Dome. Oh, yeah. That's a good one. And Westworld. You're incessantly putting Westworld in what we read.
Starting point is 01:49:59 It's funny. I just do it. What's your favourite? And it's not the thing that I love. That is the key for this. I don't love it. I think it's alienating for people. People are confused.
Starting point is 01:50:09 They probably, if they haven't switched, I guess it's towards the end. Yeah. So if they haven't switched off already. I don't look at the metrics, but people have probably left. That's true. What's the one that I like? It's for me the No Time to Die. It's the fact that we've managed to keep it going and it's still fresh for me.
Starting point is 01:50:23 And I think fresh for the listeners. Yeah. And also, unlike the Bruce Willis thing, it's been going all year. That's true. It has not stopped. It was last week. And look, I like Bruce Willis' tangents, but I think the real answer is that he just likes making a lot of money for not a lot of work.
Starting point is 01:50:39 Yes. Ultimately, that's the thing. His whole deal is like he looks at the figure that they were offering me in the contract and it says $2 million and he's on set for three hours and he leaves and he's like, I like this. I think that's ultimately what he's doing. Somebody was saying that apparently his daughter, Ruma Willis, said of him that apparently his hearing's quite bad
Starting point is 01:50:59 but he won't wear hearing aids, which is why he's so cranky in interviews because oftentimes somebody asks him a really specific question about a thing and he doesn't hear them but he can't wear hearing aids, which is why he's so cranky in interviews because oftentimes somebody asks him a really specific question about a thing and he doesn't hear them, but he can't be like, I'm sorry, I didn't understand. So he just acts cranky or like disinterested. Oh, really? I don't know if that's true. That's sad.
Starting point is 01:51:15 Yeah, a little bit. But he can't be an 80s action hero who is also deaf, but I think he can. I think he totally can. I think that would be really endearing. Yes, I agree. He could be like Hollywood's grandpa or whatever.
Starting point is 01:51:28 Yeah, well, like, you know, I mean, that's Harrison Ford, but when he dies, when he flight simulators for real and kills himself or whatever, but yeah, the fact... Who are we talking about? Harrison Ford or Bruce Willis? He's got a flight simulator. They're going to crash into each other. Yeah, sure. But I think that's... Because remember, Selma Blair came back recently.
Starting point is 01:51:44 And she's got MS. And I think that was really brave, because remember, like, Selma Blair came back recently. And she's got MS. She's got MS. And I think that was, like, really, like, brave and kind of. Great collection of canes. Exactly. I just think, I don't know. I think that's really, I mean, also, I can also, you can understand why, like, that sucks.
Starting point is 01:51:56 And maybe, and you don't like dealing with it or confronting it. But for me, it's No Time to Die. Yeah, same as well. What do people like, though? Let's find out. Loved No Time to Die, 27, same as well. What do people like, though? Let's find out. Loved No Time to Die, 27%. The Sexy Fox from Robin Hood. Now, it says actually that you put in the word sexy here.
Starting point is 01:52:13 No, but I'm just reading this. You just said it, actually. You ultimately said what you said your words were, and that's not even what the question was. You've just gone here and you've gone, oh, people like the Sexy Fox from Robin Hood, which is normal. That's what you said because you like it. It's interesting because You've just gone here, you've gone, oh, people like the sexy fox from Robin Hood, which is normal. That's what you said because you like it.
Starting point is 01:52:26 It's interesting because what you've done here in brackets that says next to it, Nick Mason typed this and it should be number one. It's interesting that you've put that in there. I've never typed anything though.
Starting point is 01:52:34 That's the thing. I've never typed anything and I never will. Then we've got, what have we, Westworld? Oh, people, okay. That's Stockholm Syndrome. Yeah, it must be.
Starting point is 01:52:42 Harry Potter. Which isn't real as we've recently discovered. We don't have time. We don't have time. Yeah, it must be. Harry Potter. Which isn't real. What? We don't have time. We don't have time. We don't have time. Harry Potter and the Half a Brick.
Starting point is 01:52:53 I really love that. I think that would be high if it wasn't so long ago. That was a billion years ago. That could have been last year. And Off the Dome I enjoy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There we go. That's a good one. Favourite Caravan of Garbage series.
Starting point is 01:53:02 Yeah, because we did a bunch of franchises this year. We did. All the Star Wars. Yep. Apocalypse movies. Dog relax. Dog related memes. Yep.
Starting point is 01:53:12 The DCEU trilogy. The dog loves the DCEU trilogy. We all do. Disney movies. Yep. Dread. Fantastic Four. James Bond.
Starting point is 01:53:22 Yep. Mission Impossible. Mm-hmm. The Mummy, The Nolan Palooza, The Santa Claus, Scooby-Doo, Transformers. We did all the Transformers. I mean. Hey, Ollie, come in here.
Starting point is 01:53:39 The one that I think for me is the most interesting and unique and the one I had the most to say about and it was interesting for the revisit was the DCEU trilogy. Yeah, right. Going back and kind of just stripping through that whole thing and stripping, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Stripping apart all that, you know, and kind of figuring out the mechanics of how it worked and having the hindsight.
Starting point is 01:53:54 Yeah. Though Transformers was probably the, I'm going to say, is the most popular. But that genuinely nearly broke me. Like that was brutal. And I don't know how Ben edited them. I think they Stockholm syndrome him, which is not a real thing I found out recently. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:54:10 What about you? Oh, man. I love doing the, I like the series. Like I like doing the James Bond ones. I really like the Santa Claus. I didn't really enjoy Scooby Doo. Like to watch or talk about. Not really, no.
Starting point is 01:54:23 They came out pretty well. Yeah, it's interesting. like to watch or talk about. Yeah, no, not really, no. They came out pretty well. Yeah, it's interesting. Like the ones that I was dreading revisiting, like I had the ones that were like this is kind of upsetting to watch but also like I've got the most to say.
Starting point is 01:54:33 I think the DCEU Transformers. Fantastic Four was fun. I didn't think it was that fun. Okay. Mission Impossible was good. I could have kept going on that. I could have like done six. Yeah could have kept going on that. I could have, like, done six. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 01:54:46 Yeah. Man. I'm going to say. We had a lot of fun. Look, honestly, we had a lot of fun with these. I'm going to say the DCEU trilogy. I'm going to say. But that won't be the one that wins.
Starting point is 01:55:00 Yeah, look, I think for me it was. Look, I like talking about. I think I'll never get tired of talking about Batman v Superman, Dawn of Justice, the greatest movie ever made. But I think maybe the others were kind of like, you know, I've said my piece on those ones, especially Justice League. I reckon maybe Transformers. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:55:19 They're bad movies. They're fascinatingly bad, aren't they? I actually, I think I recently started to re-watch those videos, which I don't normally do because I think they're good videos. I mean the discussion is good, I guess, for me, but Ben does an excellent job and I think those are particularly good. And that actually won at 22%. Yeah, and then the Santa Claus.
Starting point is 01:55:39 That's surprising. Look, we had fun with those as well. I feel like that only because we just did it. I feel like if we did the DCEU, which came in fifth, that would have moved up. So Mission Impossible, then Star Wars, and then DCEU. I do like the Star Wars ones. James, we're hitting the meat of this.
Starting point is 01:55:55 Okay, here's the real meat of this, James. The worst movie ever of the year 2020. No, I haven't seen all these. No. So I look at these. I think we should pick one, though, that we haven't seen. Okay. As the worst movie ever.
Starting point is 01:56:08 No, just kidding. We'll do whatever we like. Artemis Fowl. Bad Boys for Life. Three Life. I did stop it. Bill and Ted Face the Music. No.
Starting point is 01:56:15 Birds of Prey. No. Bloodshot. Maybe. Warat 2. No. Da 5 Bloods. Good.
Starting point is 01:56:20 Do Little. Green Land. Yeah, I like it. Extraction. Good. The Invisible Man Monster Hunter Jamaican
Starting point is 01:56:28 Is Invisible Man Oh yeah Absolutely Oh you didn't do that On purpose Nope I was just doing Funny mispronunciations
Starting point is 01:56:35 To amuse solely myself I was enjoying them Okay good Where are we Monster Hunter Mulan Palm Springs The New Mutants
Starting point is 01:56:43 Sonic the Hedgehog Tenet Wonder Woman 1984. Now this is worst movie ever of 2020. I mean this is, like the Oscars, entirely arbitrary and political. It's not necessarily the worst movie ever made. No, it's the one that we. It doesn't, you know, it's not one where we like. A movie with a billion dollars worth of special effects can definitely be worse than a cheap movie that's better made.
Starting point is 01:57:10 There's also like a lot of movies from this year I just haven't watched because I'm like, I know that's bad. Yeah, right. So like I look, I'm like probably The New Mutants, but I didn't hate it because I didn't watch Doolittle. Yeah, right. But I'm sure it probably would, Doolittle would almost certainly be worse. Yeah. But I just haven't seen it. Again, Artemis Fowl was bad, but fascinatingly bad.
Starting point is 01:57:33 Bad Boys for Life just wasn't anything. I couldn't. I got four minutes in. I hated that. I think that's a good sign. I think that's a good sign. A lot of these will also be in. A lot of these are in.
Starting point is 01:57:42 I also hate those characters. Oh, bearing in mind also, these are all in the most just a movie movie of 2020. Oh, my goodness. So save one up if you like. Okay. Because Bad Boys for Life is kind of just a movie movie. I wouldn't know. But it's also – like if you got Will Smith, it should be better.
Starting point is 01:58:01 You know? If you got Martin Lawrence, it should be better. It should be better because you could get rid of Martin Lawrence from it. That's right. Replacing with Dax Shepard. Yeah. I'm going to say of the ones I've seen, it's probably New Mutants. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:58:16 I guess. It's kind of like. But even then. It's kind of like kicking a puppy, isn't it? Yeah. It's like I didn't even hate it. I kind of think for like a tentpole movie that should have been a lot better, I think Wonder Woman 1985 is pretty bad.
Starting point is 01:58:28 Also. I know I called it best movie ever in the review. Yeah, yeah. But I wasn't comparing it to anything else at the time. But Artemis Fowl's on here. Yep. And you've seen that. I have, yeah.
Starting point is 01:58:36 But that's not worse? I mean, you knew it was terrible, didn't you? Yeah, it is worse. Yeah, all right. It's Artemis Fowl. Just because it's so, it's bad, it's a bad movie You know, I'm going to give it to the four minutes Of Bad Boys for Life that I saw
Starting point is 01:58:50 Oh yeah, I forgot about that Yeah, you know what, it is Bad Boys for Life There's more entertainment, I think, gleaned for me From Artemis Fowl than there was from Bad Boys for Life Bad Boys for Life isn't I can't remember a thing Somebody gets, I think Martin Lawrence gets shot in a driveway That's all I remember from that movie I can't remember a thing that, somebody gets, I think Martin Lawrence gets shot in a driveway. That's all I remember from that movie.
Starting point is 01:59:06 Right. That's, I can't remember what the big finale is. It's probably a warehouse shootout, but I don't know. Or it's a shootout at an airport, like an airstrip, because that's what the first one, that's what happened in the first one and they probably retreaded the old ground. Okay. But I don't know.
Starting point is 01:59:19 I don't even know. I don't know either. Yeah. The most just a movie movie, so same list. Yeah. I don't know either. Yeah. The most just a movie movie, so same list.
Starting point is 01:59:24 Yeah. I'd say if you could put in, Mulan was very just a movie for me. Yeah. And even though I think I didn't hate it as many. But again, no, I'm going to say New Mutants because it was a movie. Yeah. Wasn't it? I'm tempted to say Bloodshot because obviously I want to give every award to Bloodshot.
Starting point is 01:59:44 That was very just a movie. But I think there were some elements in it that I did think were kind of interesting. I might give it to Sonic the Hedgehog. I mean it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination. It's probably great if you're a little kid and that's your favourite. But I was like, okay, they're going to go through all the motions that I've literally seen in the trailer and then he's going to realise that friendship's important and then they're going to beat the bad guy and that I've literally seen in the trailer and then he's going to realise that friendship's important
Starting point is 02:00:06 and then they're going to beat the bad guy and then it's going to be the end. Exactly. I don't care. We've got to say worst movie ever for people who voted. Oh, yes. Artemis Fowl at 27%. Okay, there you go. Then New Mutants at 15%.
Starting point is 02:00:15 Then Mulan, Doolittle, Wonder Woman. So there you go. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the most just a movie. Yep. Actually, they're putting Wonder Woman here. Wonder Woman was just a movie. It really was just a movie. I'm Actually, they're putting Wonder Woman here. Wonder Woman was Just a Movie. It really was Just a Movie.
Starting point is 02:00:26 I'm going to Just a Movie that. I mean, we did even, I'm sure we mentioned last week, like it was right on the cusp. Yeah. The only reason I didn't call it Just a Movie is because obviously we're not allowed to. But we can during awards season. I'm going to Just a Movie it.
Starting point is 02:00:38 Yeah, no, that's pretty, yeah. So it was that for people, then Birds of Prey, then Tenet, then Mulan, then New Mutants and Bad Boys, Sonic, Bill and Ted's and Extraction. Too Close to Call. But the best movie ever. Oh, my God. Here we go. I really liked Greenland.
Starting point is 02:00:53 It was probably the one. Oh, the drive. I'm going mad. I know. I know. He used to be your worst enemy. Now he's your best friend. No, he's not my problem.
Starting point is 02:01:03 It's disaster movies in general right and because i hate the movie geostorm geostorm and it was way better and i thought it would be nothing or invisible man i really really liked i'm a standard you're going i didn't say i'm definitely going with it you're working it out in your head okay what about you uh what what is it that makes greenland better i'm sure you've told me before but it's like a very human story it's all set on Earth. It's from their perspective. You're not going into space and shooting a laser at an asteroid
Starting point is 02:01:29 or whatever the fuck happens in that movie. And it's, yeah, the family element of it really got me. Yeah. I might go with Palm Springs. It's really good. I think it's a good, it's funny. It's pretty, the vast majority of it is just a couple of people talking. Yep.
Starting point is 02:01:43 But it's, and the good premise and likeable leads. Yeah, good. Makes me feel good. Nice, good movie. And Tyler Herklin's in it. He is, isn't he? Superman. I'm going to go The Invisible Man because I think it was the one that I was like,
Starting point is 02:01:58 and to be fair, I saw it in cinemas. I was like glued to it. Yeah. It is really compelling. It's tense. The performances are great. The special effects are good. It is really compelling. It's tense. The performances are great. The special effects are good. It's well directed.
Starting point is 02:02:06 It's also a dark universe film and it's still good. I think maybe the reason I'm not going for that one is just because I haven't rewatched it, just because it is quite, it's very intense. I have watched it again. I watched it with Claire, who also really loved it actually. So yeah, Sol 1, I said this Then Tenet Then Palm Springs Then Invisible Man Then Birds of Prey And then
Starting point is 02:02:26 In the other option There was The Gentleman Yeah, we should have put that in That's on Collings though, isn't it? I mean, we could have put it in though And I'm thinking of ending things And Childish Chicago 7 Most anticipated TV show
Starting point is 02:02:39 Of 2021 2021 Yes Which we are going to do an episode on Actually all the upcoming stuff. That'll be our first episode back. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:02:48 Book of Boba Fett. Yep. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Yep. Hawkeye. Yep. Loki. Yep.
Starting point is 02:02:52 Marvel's What If. Yep. Ms. Marvel. Yep. Stranger Things Season 4. Yep. Umbrella Academy Season 3. Yep.
Starting point is 02:02:57 WandaVision. Yep. The Witcher Season 2. I reckon for me it's Loki. Oh, I was going to say WandaVision, then you said Loki. That's right. Because what ultimately is going to happen with WandaVision? What is it?
Starting point is 02:03:11 I guess there's either really two ways that WandaVision can go. It's either it alters the status quo in a fundamental way, maybe it brings mutants into the MCU, or they're trapped in this realm and they're like, hey, we got out of the realm. Yeah, but I think she's going to break some universe stuff. Yeah, right. I think her universe shifting powers are going to, like,
Starting point is 02:03:32 create mutants or time rift or something. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think you're right. It'll be nice to watch, but I think. I'm going to say Loki too. Just in terms of, like, because, look, Book of Boba Fett, that'll be fun.
Starting point is 02:03:44 It'll be fun in the style of The Mandalorian, I imagine, but it's probably not going to break any ground. Falcon and the Winter Soldier are like a buddy team-up. Yeah. I mean, that's kind of new, a superhero buddy team-up TV series. All of these look good, except I'm not a huge The Witcher fan. Yeah. I like it a lot.
Starting point is 02:03:59 What If is interesting, but also... Who knows? Who knows? Yeah. It's not the one that I'm like i need to see this because it leads into other things look if if if the trailer is anything to go by uh loki will just be wacky and all over the place and i think that it looks like a just a big budget universe spanning adventure which i'm i'm doctor who but it looks good yes i mean doctor who looks good and what
Starting point is 02:04:21 are the what are the people the people say? The people say, they say, they say, they say, WandaVision 24%, followed by Boba Fett at 15%, then Loki 14%, Falcon and Winter Soldier a slightly lower 14%, then The Witcher, and then What If at 8% and 6%. But good line-up. Yeah. Oh, here we go. Most anticipated movie of 2021. Oh, God, there's so many.
Starting point is 02:04:39 So this list is largely movies from earlier, the award for best movie that didn't come out this year. But also some that, yeah. A Quiet Place Part 2, Black Widow, Dune. Or is it Dune? Ghostbusters Afterlife, Godzilla vs. Kong, Eternals, Fast and Furious 9, Free Guy, Halloween Kills, The King's Man, The Matrix 4, if it comes out. If.
Starting point is 02:05:09 Mission Impossible 7, Morbius, Mortal Kombat, Nobody, that's Bob. I nearly said, what is that? No Time to Die, Raya and the Last Dragon, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man 3, that's new Spider-Man 3, Spiral from the Book of Saw, Snake Eyes, presumably a G.I. Joe story, The Suicide Squad, Top Gun Loser slash Maverick, Venom 2, Let There Be Carnage, Uncharted, Zack Snyder's The Justice League. Technically a TV show, but yeah, we'll put it there.
Starting point is 02:05:35 This is a big show. Fuck me. Shang-Chi jumped out. Uh-huh. Yeah, and Eternals for me as well. Eternals jumped out. Suicide Squad. Mm-hmm. I'm really looking forward to Mortal Kombat for some reason. Uh-huh. Yeah. And Eternals for me as well. Eternals jumped out. Suicide Squad. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 02:05:46 I'm really looking forward to Mortal Kombat for some reason. Uh-huh, sure. Matrix 4. Dune. How about this? If all of them, if they were like, we can only release one this year. Mm. Is that only one?
Starting point is 02:05:58 Maybe we'll go, we'll hold this until we come back and talk through all the movies. Okay, let's do it. Yeah. All right. But I'm going to say. Oh, okay. Just as a placeholder, James. Yep.
Starting point is 02:06:09 I'm going to say. What about all the Spider-Men? I mean. Oh, yeah. That's like 20 years of like. Yeah, yeah. It sure is. Spider-Man.
Starting point is 02:06:16 That's true. Yeah. Might be Shang-Chi for me. Yeah. I'm going to say. Or Eternals. I'm going to say Spider-Man because just seeing them all come together. I don't necessarily think they're going to even pull it off. Yeah, I'm going to say – Or Eternals. I'm going to say Spider-Man because just seeing them all come together. I don't necessarily think they're going to even pull it off.
Starting point is 02:06:27 Yeah, yeah. But if you have to be like, you have to watch one of these, you can only pick one, I would probably pick Spider-Man. I think a few years ago if you'd said there's going to be a new Ghostbusters movie and Paul Rudd's going to be in it, I'd be like, I've got to see that in favour of anything else. But I don't know this year. I'm sure it'll be fun.
Starting point is 02:06:42 I'm sure it'll be fun and fine. I said fun or fine, one of those things that I said. It'll be a fun. We should add that category definitely next year. What a fun movie. Oh, here's one. This is one I'd just like to add. I think I added it last year.
Starting point is 02:06:51 That's not on here, but I'd like to just put it through. Maybe we can work our way through this. The Nick Mason Find and Replace Award for the movie that was clearly just something else and they, like, really generic and they just put some characters in it. Okay, what would you put in there? Maybe Artemis Fowl would be in there. Because that was clearly their...
Starting point is 02:07:09 That was definitely something else. I mean, ultimately though that one they had a better movie, I think, or a more interesting movie. At least they had an idea. Yeah, what they did is they chopped it into a very generic kind of film. Yeah. So let's look up... I'm going to look up...
Starting point is 02:07:22 Let's have a look at the worst movies. Yeah, let's have a look at that. Let's look at worst movies. I think you could put anybody into the bad boys for life. That could be a lethal weapon. Oh, definitely, yeah. That could be a,
Starting point is 02:07:31 what's the Chris Tucker, Jackie Chan one? Rush Hour. Yeah, it's just a generic. Again, I watch four minutes, I don't know. Yeah. A lot of, yeah,
Starting point is 02:07:38 a lot of these are kind of. I think Bloodshot could be anything. Any nano soldier. It could be Universal Soldier. Yeah, it could be anything. I think it has to be, yeah. Borat 2. You put anyone in that.
Starting point is 02:07:47 Because I think last year I gave it to Rambo Last Blood. Yeah, that was anything. And I think that's really what kicked it off. It was that or Joker. And I think ultimately it's because I think with Rambo Last Blood they definitely said we haven't done a Rambo in a while. Yeah. Let's just either find a script that's just an action guy and we'll change his name to Rambo Last Blood they definitely said we haven't done a Rambo in a while. Yeah. Let's just either find a script that's just an action guy
Starting point is 02:08:07 and we'll change his name to Rambo. And I think maybe Bad Boys for Life could be it because honestly they could have just gone it's two cops and they don't play by the rules and they're old and there's some new cops, whatever. What about the new mutants but it's like not in the X-Men universe? Oh. Like does it matter ultimately no one i think says professor x they're just like look i'm in a wheelchair oh that's true like the
Starting point is 02:08:31 other guy about sonic the hedgehog you could swap it out for like the noid or the big jug of kool-aid you could swap it out for any any child's branded content yeah you really could because – Cool spot. Does it really matter? I think – I mean they put in the things like the rings and the speed and – But I mean rings or mushrooms could be – or jewels. It could be – and at the end, how does he win? With a – Speed? With speed, but that could be an energy blast from his heart or it could be –
Starting point is 02:09:03 I think it's Sonic the Hedgehog, honestly. No, not for me. No, I think it's Sonic the Hedgehog, honestly. No, not for me. No, I think it's Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm going to do Defy Bloods. Okay. Swap that out for Reddit. No, that was a great movie. I'm going to say, God, I hate movies.
Starting point is 02:09:15 I'm going to say The New Mutants because it's just, it could be said anywhere with anyone. Yeah, that's probably true, yeah. Look, I'm going with Sonic because honestly it could be rings, could be anything, you know. That's right. We've got to remember to put that in next year. Now let's forget as a fun goof.
Starting point is 02:09:28 Best podcast. Yep. We win. We won again. We did, it's true. 100%. Good thing they didn't add any other options. And at the end of the document.
Starting point is 02:09:36 Our egos could not take it. At the end of the document, Collings wrote, we did it. And by we, we mean him. He did it, yeah. And all the people who voted, we really appreciate that. So, yeah. Wow. What a year.
Starting point is 02:09:48 I hated that. What? Went forever. No, I loved it. No, that was good. I enjoyed going through that. So, yeah, I definitely couldn't do that every week though. No.
Starting point is 02:09:57 Just looking back and being like, what's out? I think coupled with the fact that like what came out this year? When did this year start and end? I don't know. Yeah. Has it ended? Yeah. Are we still in it?
Starting point is 02:10:08 But yeah. So if you've got any more opinions, I guess we can leave the poll up if people want to. Yeah, keep it going. Whatever. And someone will probably, Collings again, will publish the results in the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates group. But thank you to all the people who contributed. We really appreciate that.
Starting point is 02:10:21 I probably should have tweeted it out and I didn't. Did you tweet it out? No. Neither of us tweeted it out. We forgot. It's time for the people in the Planet of Broadcasting Great Mates Facebook group. They contributed and we appreciate that very much. They did. And do you know what it's time for? What's it time for, James? Time for What Are We Reading?
Starting point is 02:10:36 Oh, yes. What are we going to read? I'm doing the thing. Westworld. For a second I'm like, I'm going to let it die. Like my brain said, just let it go. For 2021, just let it go? And then I just said it really loud. But then you were like, remember our motto for 2021.
Starting point is 02:10:55 Remember who you are. Never let anything go ever. What do you mean watch and read? Drive everything into the ground. Well, I read the Transformers Terminator comic book. Oh, you did too. I should have said that earlier. I'll check my big list of things.
Starting point is 02:11:07 I'll say what I did then. I've been watching Cobra Kai Season 3. Oh, yeah. A lot of fun callbacks. It's mostly callbacks, that show. Oh, yeah, yeah. And footage from the original movies. And then every now and then the kids will meet and they'll have a big karate fight.
Starting point is 02:11:19 And it's also kind of, I know it's supposed to be, I assume, but it's funny because everybody's so into karate. And it's like, who's into karate this much? Yeah, yeah. Who's not into MMA at this point? Yeah, you're right. So it's fun and funny. It's in the same way that like, I don't know,
Starting point is 02:11:36 like The Force Awakens is like a throwback. It's like that kind of thing, you know what I mean? It's got some good new characters and it's pretty breezy, man. They did a good job. Apparently that's also the reason they brought back Saved by the Bell because they were like, oh, yeah, shit works. Yeah, right. Yeah, so there you go.
Starting point is 02:11:52 But I'm not a fan of Saved by the Bell, so I don't give a shit what any of them are up to. That's right. Zach Morris. Yeah, Screech. Well, isn't he awful in real life? Apparently he's not. That's why he's not.
Starting point is 02:12:00 Yeah. That's fine. Yeah. Apparently they said, like in the show, they're like, oh, he's on the International Space Station or something like that, which is very generous. I would have said he fell into a ditch and he died. He's on the space station because he's a sex criminal
Starting point is 02:12:15 and they have to keep him there. That's right. That is very generous. I guess the character doesn't necessarily reflect the man. Oh, that's probably true, yeah. I would have said he died though. Yeah, me too. Yeah. He pooed himself to death and then he necessarily reflect the man. Oh, that's probably true, yeah. I would have said he died, though. Yeah, me too. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:12:26 He pooed himself to death and then he slept in the poo. Yeah. I don't know. Maybe I'll play a video game this week. Yeah, why not? What was that? Hades. What was in that list of good video games?
Starting point is 02:12:36 Ghost of Shushi. Yeah, maybe I'll play that. It's good. I can't lend it to you because I love it. I'm sorry. No, it's understandable. And you can pick any other game that I've got. I shall purchase a change with my own human money.
Starting point is 02:12:45 Human money? I mean money. That's something a weird lizard man would say. No, I mean it. I'm sorry. No, it's understandable. You can pick any other game that I've got. I shall purchase a change with my own human money. Human money? I mean money. That's something a weird lizard man would say. That's something that somebody who loves a fox lady would say. That's you. You'd know. You'd know, James. Full stop, no returns.
Starting point is 02:12:57 Yeah. All returns are all right. You just wait. Yeah, that's right. Okay, should we do the next segment of the show then? No, I'm just going to check to see if there's any other video games I should play this year. Great stuff. Great stuff.
Starting point is 02:13:06 Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Best video game movie? Yes. No, just best video game. You said Assassin's Creed. You said Call of Duty. You were going to do a Call of Duty.
Starting point is 02:13:14 I don't want to. Okay. What about Final Fantasy? It's probably a lot, isn't it? It's probably a lot, yeah. Maybe I'll just keep playing Red Dead. You could do Marvel's Avengers. You are loving that, aren't you?
Starting point is 02:13:25 Why would I play Marvel's Avengers after all this loving that aren't you? Why would I play Marvel's Avengers after all this? After the year we've had James. I can't believe they thought they could sneak out
Starting point is 02:13:31 that game. Sons of bitches. Alright let's do letters. I'll play a video game. I'll let people know what it's
Starting point is 02:13:35 like next week. No we're not here next week. Oh yeah. A couple of weeks. A few weeks. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:13:39 In years. You can play a hundred video games. Sorry. Classic one was letters. Oh letters.
Starting point is 02:13:44 We love you, some letters. They're only a day away. I know they're here right now. We're going to do letters. If you do want to reach the show, hashtag WeeklyPlanetPod on Twitter or WeeklyPlanetPod at gmail.com. What are you reading, Mason? Here's a little update.
Starting point is 02:14:04 This is from Taylor. I don't know if you remember last week. Taylor emailed in. He said he was going to do a stream. He was going to play Legends of Zelda Ocarina of Time to raise money for charity. He says, hi, James and Mason. Hello. I'm the guy who was supposed to be doing a 20-hour Zelda playthrough last week.
Starting point is 02:14:16 Unfortunately, mere hours after sending you that email, I fell three meters from a climbing wall and dislocated both my right forearm bones. What the fuck? Had to rethink quickly, but because the cause was so worthwhile, I went ahead and tried to do the thing one-handed and high on painkillers. I managed to get to 10 hours before I got too much. The great mates turned out in force, though, and kept me going until we completely smashed the target, raising 300 pounds for a great cause.
Starting point is 02:14:37 That's awesome. I know. I can't thank you guys enough for the support, but I've just signed up for a big sandwich, so hopefully you can get a bite on me. We're going to get some of those 300. we'll get some of that 300, mate. Also, thanks to Psyking5k, who donated a massive 50 pounds and added the following,
Starting point is 02:14:50 everyone should listen to the Weekly Planet. It's a podcast about the ocarina of time. So this combines all the stuff we love, I think. The listeners are getting out there. They're doing some charitable work. They're doing their best. A severe injury. He's injured himself quite badly, but he's carried on regardless. Big Sandwich, we've got some great stuff up there. They're doing some charitable work. They're doing their best. A severe injury. He's injured himself quite badly, but he's
Starting point is 02:15:06 carried on regardless. Big sandwich. We've got some great stuff up there. We really appreciate when people sign up to Big Sandwich and also another listener being very generous and lying to other people. Perfect email. That's the perfect email. I think we're just going to have that email next week. Don't go out of your way to injure yourself. We'll know if
Starting point is 02:15:21 you're faking. That's right. That's great. That's great. Terrific work. Well done. Got one from Polar Bear says, Hey, Nick and James, bearing in mind they're all bad, what's the worst mechanic for bringing a character back from the dead?
Starting point is 02:15:33 Hashtag with the planet pod. I vote clone, he's written. Or she. I don't. Well, I think it just depends on how you do it. Like the Emperor. Yeah. Where it's like, what was that? And then
Starting point is 02:15:45 three months later they were like, it was a clone. Great, thanks. Also, it depends, I think, as well on what kind of character we're talking about. With a villain it doesn't really matter, but I think with a hero, like if it's a villain, it's like, well, he's from the parallel universe or whatever, that's fine,
Starting point is 02:16:01 but if you can just bring a good guy back, it saps out a lot of dramatic tension. I think, do you think they did the Chris Pine one well? I mean. He should have got a best hair knot. Yeah, no, that's true. Spoilers for Wonder Woman if you haven't seen it yet.
Starting point is 02:16:19 I think it's a bad one, not because of the idea of it, how it worked, but because it's a bad one, not because of the idea of it, how it worked, but because it's interesting and nobody – They don't explore. They don't explore it, but they also don't – it's not factored into Diana's actions in the movie because I think when Chris Pine says, you know, you have to sacrifice this thing or you have to renounce your wish, he should have been like,
Starting point is 02:16:45 and because obviously I'm a spirit in another man's body and you shouldn't let, like he's dead if I don't go away. Like there should be no moral question about it at all. And so it shouldn't, the universe, Diana's action should have really hinged on that, but they don't. They don't at all. You're right. So no, that's action should have really hinged on that, but they don't. They don't at all. You're right. So, no, that's bad.
Starting point is 02:17:09 What about Twin Brother, Legend of Curly's Gold? Yeah, that's good. They also did that in Beer Fest. But that's fun. Yeah. Probably haven't seen it. I think. What about Ghost, like Harrison Ford?
Starting point is 02:17:21 I'm your dad. I'm just doing all Star Wars. Yeah. Or what about They're Still Dead but they're in your head now? I hate that. You hate that one? Like it's just the imagination of what they would be. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:17:34 I think a good one, I think the best way to do it, I think the more fantastical it goes, the worse it is usually. Depending on the universe. Yeah, and I think I'm happiest with the retcon. They never died at all. I much prefer if they died in an explosion and then you see they jumped into a manhole. So you like the one from Sherlock?
Starting point is 02:17:56 Yeah, I loved it. I love Sherlock. You never died. Yeah, but Sherlock was also like every theory you have is dumb about how he came back. So like Ahan from Fast and Furious. How did he come back? He just never really died.
Starting point is 02:18:08 He just never died unless he's a clone. Yeah, but that's not real. Oh, yeah, but there's nanosauces or whatever. Because we're now in the Hobbs and Shaw universe. So the worst way is Kingsman the Golden Circle where you put the patch on your head and it sucks a bullet wound out of your brain and then you're alive again. That's the thing. But you don't have memories except.
Starting point is 02:18:30 The ones that aren't good are the ones where somebody just comes back and there's no consequences. Yeah. You know what I mean? And Golden Circle is absolutely that because they went, oh, we'll just put. No, we cannot fight for a little bit. Colin Firth got shot directly through his brain and he definitely died. But it's okay because an hour afterwards somebody put a patch on his head
Starting point is 02:18:50 and it sucked the bullet out. But the only consequence was he didn't have his memories until he got a bit of a fright or something. But then he didn't have his skills until he did. Atrocious. Atrocious movie. Yeah. Pedro Pascal, though, playing a cowboy.
Starting point is 02:19:02 With the whip. Was he the whip guy? Laser whip guy? Maybe whip guy laser whip guy maybe he was laser or was that yeah okay doesn't matter yeah
Starting point is 02:19:08 that's absolutely the worst one yeah but speaking of the worst one I hope you have the best one you're out of emails
Starting point is 02:19:14 yeah because I've got one more okay now go ahead Hayden says hold that thought say the thing later and then I'll
Starting point is 02:19:19 okay yeah it's going to be really good hashtag weekly planet pod I've come to a conclusion this is something that people have been arguing with us about how Boba Fett It's going to be really good. Hashtag weekly planet pod. I've come to a conclusion. This is something that people have been arguing with us about how Boba Fett in your face is cool now or whatever. We're going to put this to bed right now.
Starting point is 02:19:38 And Boba Fett was so bad in Return of the Jedi because he was absolutely shit-faced from drinks from R2-D2, from serving them on Jabba's sail barge. People have said that, like he's high on spice. He's shit-faced or whatever. And people are like, so it's not his fault. You're on the job, mate. You cannot get shit-faced and then think you can fight a Jedi. Right. You know what these guys can do.
Starting point is 02:19:53 They've outrun and outgun you multiple times. You should not be drunk. They should be in the pit and then you can have a drink. That's right. After you shoot a rocket launcher into it. That's right. You should wait till rocket launcher into it. That's right. Yeah. You should wait till they're eaten by the monster, the big monster guy. How many jobs.
Starting point is 02:20:10 And then you shoot that with a rocket. That's what I'm saying. How many jobs can you do drunk? Not many. Just podcasting. Just podcasting. Yeah. But like if he was a teacher, if he was whatever your job is, you cannot be drunk.
Starting point is 02:20:23 So he's bad at it. James, my job is a raconteur, so obviously I can be drunk. Oh, I do have one more. Do you mind if I do this? No, please. No, I've got time. So this is from, where is it, where is it, where is it? From Alex Parsons.
Starting point is 02:20:37 The dog's upset by Thunder. Isn't Alan Dean Foster a firm Wikipedia Brown favourite? Yes. Actually, I weekly planet pod becauseandine Foster came out this week who was not getting the royalties from the Star Wars novels, which he should. He wrote the original one and many others since. That's right.
Starting point is 02:20:52 He was also not a fan of Episode 8, so he said, this is how I would have fixed it. Oh, that's right, yeah. I've got this ready to go. Have you heard this? This is The Last Jedi. This is The Last Jedi. No, this is how you retcon it in 9.
Starting point is 02:21:04 This is what his version of 9 would be. Oh, okay, right. Interesting. So he said, I thought, how can this be retconned? How can we fix as much of this as possible from Episode 8 in a proposed Episode 9? I wrote a partial treatment for that, attempting in that storyline to explain a lot of silly things that happened in Episode 8.
Starting point is 02:21:18 My media representative couldn't get anybody at Disney to look at it. It was probably because the film was already, or at least the script was finished finished and the film was in productions. So these are some ideas. As for why Rey is so powerful, she had a disease which was not curable unless they replaced part of her brain. It was done with electronics
Starting point is 02:21:33 so that actually she was a part droid, as they say in Star Wars, and that gives her the ability to learn remarkably quickly and also enhance her existing force powers. And that's how she could throw boulders around at the end of Episode VIII. Lobot. They're going to lobot it. They're going to lobot it. But also, like, also enhance her existing force powers and that's how she could throw boulders around at the end of episode eight low bot they're gonna low bot it gonna low bot it but also like she i know people like she's super powerful and whatever but i don't you don't need to be like she's a robot
Starting point is 02:21:53 whatever she's the just say she's the chosen one or whatever i gave luke what i thought was a proper send-off at the end of episode nine at the end of it there's a big battle on coruscant with the emperor's death uh so with the Emperor's death, sorry, with the Emperor's clones. I also managed to provide proper motivation for that character because they forced Boyega to fall in love and I give her something proper to do that justifies her character. At the end of the film, Luke is dying under a tree and Rey comes out.
Starting point is 02:22:18 I guess he's alive as well, I guess. And Rey comes out and Luke's last words are, Aunt Beru, which brings the whole thing full circle. Huh. You know that woman he'd thought about briefly in those movies? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because it's the first thing he said, so it's the last thing. Wouldn't he say Leia or like shit?
Starting point is 02:22:37 I mean, that's one of those things. Again, I still respect the work of Alan Dean Foster. I love Alan Dean Foster. But I think that only works if his existence only began at the start of Star Wars Episode IV. Like he didn't exist and then. That was the first thing he said. Because why would you remember that specific event and say, yeah,
Starting point is 02:22:57 but you know. He loves his family. Yeah. He was mad when they got burnt up to a crisp. Anyway, that's the show. Do that thing you were going to do. I was going to say, I hope everybody has the best of 2021. I mean, we will be here with you as we all go through 2021.
Starting point is 02:23:09 Yeah. It has to be better than 2020, right? I don't know. I mean, why did I say that? A lot of people I know are fleeing the border because they're closing it because of COVID. Terrific. I'm loving it.
Starting point is 02:23:22 It's a great start. I'm loving it. Last year they were fleeing from bushfires. A lot of the same people I know are now fleeing. Yeah, look, at least it's damp outside. At least it's damp outside. Look, happy New Year and thanks everybody. Happy New Year, James.
Starting point is 02:23:35 Thanks. Thank you everybody for continuing to stick with us and we very much appreciate that. We are going to take a couple of weeks off after this. Boo Club is happening. What else is happening? The commentary is happening. That's this. Boot Club is happening. What else is happening? The commentary is happening. That's right.
Starting point is 02:23:47 Clickbait's happening. It's all still happening at bigsandwich.co. Sorry, go on. That's right. I wasn't going to say that anyway. But, yeah, I hope you guys have a fun little break from us. Do you hope people left a review? Yeah.
Starting point is 02:23:58 This is from Ohio Jones. Says, suspicious characters. These men in their podcast have anecdotally linked to several inexplicable accidents. That's true. Also some good things too. Coincidence? I think probablyotally linked to several inexplicable accidents. That's true. Also some good things too. Coincidence? I think probably, yeah. Great show.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. If you subscribe to the newsletter, you get a heads up on all that sort of stuff. That's from Rob Collings. He's at RawCollings on Twitter.
Starting point is 02:24:51 He's also at The Weekly Planet on Twitter. Thank you to RawCollings for everything he's done this year. Oh, my God. He's just a sterling. He's been working his butt off. How does he do it and why does he do it? He works hard because he's dedicated. Yes. And he does it for money. Agreed. And the
Starting point is 02:25:08 love of it. The love of podcasting. Also, yeah, you can I've lost my train of thought. You can shut up. No, I shan't shut up. I shan't ever shut up except for the next two weeks when I'm definitely going to be very quiet. Oh yeah, I'm at Wikipedia Brown on Twitter. Yep. And on Instagram I'm Nick Maso. N-I-C-K-M-A-S-E-A-U, James.

Starting point is 02:25:51 It's $9 a month. You get all the bonus stuff we mentioned earlier. It's going to be going even throughout the break because we recorded a bunch of bonus extra stuff. That's right. We try to record some stuff every time we record the regular podcast. We do, we do. Get a little backlog going up in there.
Starting point is 02:26:04 We've got some T-shirts on tpublic.com. There's official ones. There's also official ones, unofficial ones from Weekly Planet Posters, who I want to thank especially this year, who's made just so many ridiculous posters based on the stupid things we say. Who would have thought that anything productive would have come from the stupid things we say? It doesn't make any sense.
Starting point is 02:26:22 But you can follow him at Weekly Planet posters on all the socials. You definitely can. It's very funny stuff. And thank you to the boot. The brute? The boot. Thank you to the boot. In your relationship,
Starting point is 02:26:34 you're the boot, right, James? What's the boot? The old boot. I am, I am. Claire calls you the old boot. She does, yeah. Well, thank you to the old boot. That's you, James.

Starting point is 02:26:52 That's right. The wonderful art people do as well. Yeah, every time. Tristan DePease. Yeah, great stuff. Tristan DePease did a recent one, which you can see. A very holiday themed one, which is really good. I went, whoa.

Starting point is 02:27:25 You know what I mean, Mason? And I also like being around your family some of the time with the benefit that I can leave. I leave after a couple of hours. That's right. And I sit on the couch and I eat a pizza. Sounds good too. I wish I had that.
Starting point is 02:27:37 All right. Oh, no, I'm going to get Shrek the fourth or whatever. James, you can do it because your life is good. But it can be better if you divorce your family and replace them with a pizza. Can't we just like pee into a fountain and we switch bodies or whatever? I guess we can do that.
