Starting point is 00:00:00 FX's The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. FX's The Veil, starring Elizabeth Moss, is now streaming on Disney+. As women, our life stages come with unique risk factors, like when our estrogen levels drop during menopause, causing the risk of heart disease to go up. Know your risks.

Welcome back, everybody, to another episode of the Weekly Planet, where we talk movies and comics and TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr Sunday, and with me, as always, is my co-host, Nick Mason. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:01:08 My goodness. You're in good spirits. Well, look, I'll tell you one thing. I'm back at work and I'm surly as all heck, let me tell you. I was going to say. Most of the news is just going to be responded to by me going, shut up, news. This sucks.
Starting point is 00:01:21 We've had enough news. This is going to suck. I'm not saying I'm tired, but on the way over here, I had my car clicker and I was clicking it and I was clicking it and I'm like, why isn't the car clicker working? And I'm like, huh, I'm pointing it at my front door. Did that several times. What did you think was going to?
Starting point is 00:01:39 I don't know. I think a part of my brain went, the lights aren't going. You know the lights go click, click? Yeah, the lights do that when you open your car. The lights aren't going and I'm like, well, it wouldn't because there aren't any lights in the front door of my brain went, the lights aren't going. You know, the lights go tick-tock. Yeah, the lights do that when you open your car. The lights aren't going. And I'm like, well, it wouldn't because there aren't any lights in the front door of my house. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:50 And even if there were, that wouldn't. No. Unrelated. My house clicker is my other pocket. That's right. My whole apartment block goes brrm, brrm. It's really annoying for people. They hate it.
Starting point is 00:02:01 But I installed it and I'm getting my money's worth. So just a couple of quick things up top. We were on a couple of podcasts, weren't we? That's true, yeah. I was on Fofop, which is normally a Will Anderson podcast, but now they're sharing it. So Charlie Clawson and I did one together. That's right.
Starting point is 00:02:15 And I just want to quickly state up top, his first question was, how do you fit everything in? And I didn't just say, because I have like 10 people who help. Like there's you and my wife and a bunch of editors and colleagues and everybody does a whole lot of that. We've got an accountant. You're like, I'm drowning here. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:34 I'm alone in a sea of disaster. Yeah, so I didn't get around to saying that. That is the actual answer. So apologies. But it's a great show because we talk about. Fitness. We do talk about. Hair rejuvenation. I've listened But it's a great show because we talk about- Fitness. We do talk about- Hair rejuvenation.
Starting point is 00:02:47 I've listened to it. Yeah, cool. Yeah, we do. We talk about death and the meaning of life and all this. Just getting old and being miserable. I had a great time though. How about this? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:57 My question to you is because the great artist James Fosdyke- Yes. Does a portrait of the guest every time. Yes. What do you think about your portrait? It captured my time. I'm so old in it, Mason. Look at my old face.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Look at my old man face. It's perfect. It's pretty good, right? It's good. I like it. He's incredible. What about you, though? When he's not drawing dicks.
Starting point is 00:03:16 And even then, even more incredible. He draws great dicks. Yeah, right? Yeah. I was on, during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, I was on the first and potentially only live episode of Matt Stewart's podcast, Primemates, the only podcast that talks about primates and popular culture.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Oh, my goodness. And that episode is now up on the Primemates feed, so if you want to check that out, it's myself, it is Cass Page from Sandspan, and of course it's Matt Stewart and second banana, Evan Monroe Smith. All great. Good fun.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Had a good fun time. I didn't get a chance to see that or anything at the comedy festival, so I will listen to that. It's silly. It's silly? Well, then I'm not going to listen to it. Oh, okay. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I shouldn't have been so silly. No, that's not your fault. But in the way it is. You have to imagine while you're listening I'm wearing a shirt with bananas on it. Is that what you wore on the day? Yep. Did you buy it for it?
Starting point is 00:04:01 No. Wow. But I feel like maybe I thought it into being because I'm like, I need a funny garment to wear to this live gig. And then I just open the drawer and I'm like, banana shirt. Did I buy this? Did you iron it or was it pre-ironed and ready to go? Yeah, it was pre-ironed and ready to go.
Starting point is 00:04:15 What? No, I steamed it out. I was going to say, I think you might have done that in the middle of the night. You might have like, you've got some kind of fight club situation where one part of your personality is just getting ready. Picking the perfect outfit. That's all it does.
Starting point is 00:04:29 But just for primates. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, perfect. I've got a valet that looks like Brad Pitt. Oh, wow. Yeah. He should do modeling or acting. Nah.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Okay, fair enough. So the Oscars, right? Right. We're going to talk about that. We're going to talk about how something has been bumped off 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, which was news this week. Oh, that's right, yeah. Got more delays.
Starting point is 00:04:51 We've got Captain for America news. A synopsis for Loki. Guy Gardner's being cast. The Meg is coming back. There's even more Green Lantern news. There is, yeah. Maybe more and even more, yeah. I've got the synopsis.
Starting point is 00:05:05 He-Man Bad News, The Tomorrow War got a trailer, Sweet Tooth got a trailer, Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, and then we're going to get into Invincible Season 1, which is just wrapped up. So if you haven't watched all of Invincible, watch it now. And then read all the comics. That's right. And then you'll know.
Starting point is 00:05:22 Because we're going to spoil something from every page. Yep, that's right. So watch out. In this page, somebody's being cut in half by another person. It's most pages, isn't it? We were going to do an episode entirely devoted to the Oscars. Yep. But then we were like.
Starting point is 00:05:36 I've written here, who cares? I've actually written that in my notes. Cool, good. Yeah. And also we thought about it and we're like, we haven't seen a lot of Oscar winners, to be honest with you. And by that you mean you saw a lot of the films and you went, these don't seem Oscar worthy to me.
Starting point is 00:05:50 That's right. Is that what you mean? Anthony Hopkins. Yuck. I meant more in the sense of like if we were going to do an episode on all the best Oscar winners over the years, a lot of the time we haven't seen them. Well, that's true.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Did you see that article that was trending on Twitter this week? It was somebody who had ranked all the best Oscar, like the best film winners over the years. Okay. But one of them, he was just like, I haven't seen this one, so I'm making it number 65 or whatever. What? And I think they hadn't seen like a lot of them.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Just lie. Just say you've seen it. That's the thing. I think that was meant to make us think he'd seen all the, like the 99 remaining ones, but I'm pretty sure hadn't seen a lot of them. I think Matt, who edits. Because. Has worked his way through and watched them all.
Starting point is 00:06:34 I think I might be wrong. If you were going to make an article about the top, you know, the 92 Oscar best film winners or whatever, how many there are, and you hadn't seen one. Yeah. You'd just watch the one. Yeah, well, that's so true. I mean, I wouldn't.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Sure. But, like, if I was doing an article on it, I probably would. That's the good thing about doing this. I can just be like, I didn't see it and I'm not going to see it. And then most people will be like, all right. Do you know what I mean? We're used to your shenanigans by now, I guess. So, you know, I guess the big thing that people were talking about,
Starting point is 00:07:05 if people were talking about anything because the lowest ratings ever, ha, ha, ha, ha, or whatever, is that Anthony Hopkins beat out Chadwick Boseman. But Chadwick Boseman's family came out and went, yeah, Anthony Hopkins is great. Yeah, and I think part of the controversy as well was that. He was in a Transformers movie, yeah. That's true. But so is Francis McDormand.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Oh, my God. Right? That's the key, I think. Michael Bay, what are you doing? You're poisoning people. No, he's exclusively picking Oscar winners is what he's doing. John Malkovich? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Has he an Oscar winner? Maybe. I don't care. John Turturro, Oscar winner? Don't think so. Is he that Jesus sequel that he made? No. Who made it?
Starting point is 00:07:44 John Turturro directed a semi-sequel to The Big Lebowski based on his character from it. Oh, okay, yes. Don't mess with the Jesus? Something like that. I haven't seen it, but apparently it's not very good. I haven't seen it. I also haven't seen it.
Starting point is 00:07:57 And people will not request that I see it. I thought that was also in, I thought that was one of those things that was in Development Hell. Oh, okay, yeah, yeah. But what were we talking about? You said Oscar winners, Anthony Hopkins, Clancy McDormand, something. Apparently what they did is they arranged the ceremony
Starting point is 00:08:18 so that the best actor would be right at the end. Yeah. Because people were assuming that Chadwick Boseman would take it. Yes. But then. Seemed to be pointing towards that apparently. Then he didn't. And then Anthony Hopkins wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Yeah. And so everybody got mad at Anthony Hopkins for winning and then not being there. But apparently two things. One was. He was there. Yeah, that's right. He was ready to go.
Starting point is 00:08:43 No, sorry, go on. One was that it was one of those cases where everybody was like, yeah, I'm definitely voting for Chadwick Boseman. And then the other person was like, I'm also voting for Chadwick Boseman. And so everybody was like, well, if everybody's voting for Chadwick Boseman, I can vote for Anthony Hopkins and it won't matter. Yeah, but like why? Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:09:02 If you think everybody's voting for Chadwick Boseman, it's not like he finds out how many votes he got and he's like, Anthony Hopkins. But like why? Do you know what I mean? If you think everybody's voting for Chadwick Boseman, it's not like he finds out how many votes he got and he's like, oh, these three people voted for me, I'm Anthony Hopkins. Like he doesn't know, does he? What is that voice? Is that man? It's Anthony Hopkins.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Hello, it's me, Anthony Hopkins. I'm going to eat you up. I'm having a lector. I'm having a lector. Oh, I thought he was like British drunk. No, no, no. He's Hannibal Lecter. He's he was I thought he was like British drunk no no no he's Hannibal Lecter he's drunk on blood and livers
Starting point is 00:09:28 sure why not why not you know but also apparently Anthony Hopkins was like hey in the event that I win this
Starting point is 00:09:35 can I do my acceptance speech over Zoom because I'm a very old man and COVID is happening and they were like no oh that's right so he was just like well I can't
Starting point is 00:09:42 I'm not going to travel wow there you go exciting makes sense right didn't he was just like, well, I can't. I'm not going to travel. Wow. There you go. Exciting. Makes sense, right? Didn't he do a video afterwards or whatever? Yeah, he did, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:50 He's always doing nice videos on Twitter. He is doing nice videos. I hope he doesn't get cancelled. Sure. God bless you, Anthony Hopkins. In which case, unless you get cancelled, in which case, you son of a bitch. We always knew. We always knew. We suspected as much.
Starting point is 00:10:01 I don't like those people who are like, when somebody gets cancelled, they're like, well, I actually never found him funny. Yeah, shut up. I actually never. Well, good on you. Yeah. Good for you. Where were you before all the crimes? Right?
Starting point is 00:10:13 You should have been campaigning for this. You should have been putting your hand up at their stand-up show or their whatever and being like, actually, I don't find you funny. And let the record be shown that I didn't find you funny. I could actually do this. I just choose not to. Your cancellation later will not affect me at all because I'm very clever. Shut up.
Starting point is 00:10:32 By the way, there's time goes when people do want to jump around. That's right. What do you think could be a thing that would get you specifically into the Oscars? Into the Oscars? Yeah, like you would watch it. Oh, I thought you meant physically. I mean.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Like into the ceremony. A nomination, I guess. I could be one of, like you would watch it. Oh, I thought you meant physically. I mean. Like into the ceremony. A nomination, I guess. I could be one of those like styrofoam. Yeah, I was going to say one of those like styrofoam shark mascots doing a dance. They're like, it's a tribute to the musicals. And I'm like. That would not only get you into the Oscars, it would get other people into the Oscars. Because you would be the other shark.
Starting point is 00:11:04 That's right. So two people into the Oscars. Two sharks making a go of it. Just bringing the Oscars, it would get other people into the Oscars. Because you would be the other shark. That's right. So two people into the Oscars. Two sharks making a go of it, just bringing the Oscars back. But what could it be? I'd imagine like it would have to be an incredible musical act maybe from a movie that year, I guess, from an artist that I like, which is no one because I don't listen to music. Yeah, I don't.
Starting point is 00:11:24 What about a big song and dance Hugh Jackman style? Because they're always too long. And that's the thing, like if any, the thing now is the fact that everything gets streamed and everything goes on YouTube. If something good was going to happen, it would be on YouTube the next day. It would be on social media. Somebody would just tweet it and like the whole clip and I wouldn't have to watch.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Here's what I'd do. Yes. Everyone gets sourced. Everyone's real fucked up. It's me, Anthony Hopkins. I'm Anthony Hopkins. I rub drunk and I will stay this way. And everybody, and there's like roaming mics
Starting point is 00:11:59 and they're just picking up everything. Oh, that's good, yeah, yeah, yeah. And there's candid moments where you're just like, you're seeing people like talking shit about Jake Gyllenhaal or whatever. That's right. Or like fake Gyllenhaal. Whoa! Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:12:10 That'll get me in. Just a bit of goss. Just a bit of hot goss. Wait, wait, I meant because of his performance as Mysterio. That's what I meant. I'm Anthony Hopkins. Oh, it's Anthony Hopkins again. Anthony Hopkins again, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Very good. Anyway, speaking of. Wait, surprise. It's me, Tom Holland. He's getting better as an actor. This is what I sound like when I'm drunk. So you saw this as well. Hello, Mr. Feige.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Can we do another Spider-Man movie, please? Love to do a Spider-Man movie. Sonny Muffin, do a please, if you could. So there was an 80-year-old review that was then added to Rotten Tomatoes this week of Citizen Kane. So negative reviews. Negative reviews, I should say. Knocking it off its 100%-o that it's been riding high on for however long Rotten Tomatoes has been around for.
Starting point is 00:12:56 And people are saying that Paddington 2 is now the top-rated movie, which isn't true. I mean, Rotten Tomatoes were around in that era. It was just physically. It was a physical thing. And there was 100 in the audience. That's how many were thrown. That's how we improve the Oscars.
Starting point is 00:13:09 It would be good. We make it like that festival in Spain or whatever. People are just throwing tomatoes at each other. And someone gets gacked like at that MTV or Kids Choice. James, everybody's already on gack. I don't know what you think, how Hollywood works. But, yeah, great stuff. Do you want to read?
Starting point is 00:13:29 Do you want the review? Yes. From May Tinney who says, it's interesting. Wait, what? Is there a publication attached to this? Was this some? It was a publication. Somebody named May Tinney.
Starting point is 00:13:40 No, it was like the Times or something. Well, that's fine as long as it's not just like. Yeah, it was a real thing. I just can't. That's quite all right. I don't have it in front of me. I don't know. Who cares?
Starting point is 00:13:51 But I'm not going to read the whole thing. It's like two lines. It's interesting. It's difficult. In fact, it's bizarre enough to become a museum piece, but its sacrifice of simplicity to eccentricity robs it of distinction and general entertainment. So too weird is what they're saying. I guess so.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Like it's like, oh, this is interesting, but I fucking hate this. Okay. Or as it really is on Rotten Tomatoes, it's like below a six. Sure, yeah. So like anything above 60% is fresh. So I guess the reason why Paddington 2 is up the top is probably because it's got the most reviews because there are other movies that are also 100%
Starting point is 00:14:28 that maybe don't have as many reviews. Yeah, right, right, right. Anyway, Paddington 2 is amazing. It's a good movie. It's a good movie. And I've never seen Citizen Kane and I never will, so there we go. Wow.
Starting point is 00:14:36 No one can make me or will ask me, so that's fine, isn't it? It's true. Delays but not dismays, Mason. All right. Just the one this week, Morbius. Oh. Yeah. I know you've been looking the one this week, Morbius. Oh. Yeah. I've been looking forward to this.
Starting point is 00:14:48 It's been moved. I haven't. I forgot about it. It's been moved from January 21st to January 28th of next year. Can you wait that week? You have to make some adjustments in your personal life. I can but I don't want to. You took that week off work for this.
Starting point is 00:15:02 I did. It's true. Morbfest. That's what I'm calling it. I love that. I'm getting morbidly obese and I'm watching Morbius. Wow. All my morb-based passions all in one.
Starting point is 00:15:15 That sounds really good. I'm excited for that. So anyway, who cares? I put it in as a joke and it's not that good a joke. Captain America 4 News. They should put that. That should be a Rotten Tomatoes review. This movie is a joke.
Starting point is 00:15:30 It's not even that good of a joke. I'm here as a joke. My friend got morbidly obese as a joke. It's true, though. He did. I'm here. Morbfest. I'm here at Morbfest.
Starting point is 00:15:40 I'll be here. Morbfest. I'll be here at Morbfest. Showrunner Malcolm Spellman, who showran Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is developing Captain for America, presumably a Sam Wilson and probably Bucky Barnes-focused Captain America movie. He's been asked about this and Sam Wilson, and he's so immersed in the role now. Anthony Mackie.
Starting point is 00:16:03 Anthony Mackie has just been there, played coy. They're like, we don't know. We don't know about the future of anything. We don't know. We don't know what's going on. Or maybe a few drinks will loosen you up. I don't know anything. I'll tell you this much.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Didn't work. They just got Hollywood drunk. They just got Hollywood drunk. They just got Hollywood drunk. So there you go, not surprising. Apparently also it's separate from whatever Chris Evans is working on because apparently Chris Evans is working on a Captain America thing. Oh. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:16:35 James, it's Keforp Tfane Formeric For. Okay. I've taken all the A's out and made it unpronounceable. That's what I've done there. Well, it's really good. Thank you. And that's going to make an excellent poster. If you plan to post it, check them out on Instagram and Twitter.
Starting point is 00:16:54 And T-shirts. They do T-shirts. That's right. They. It's one dude. It's one man. But it feels like a lot, doesn't it? It feels like a lot of work.
Starting point is 00:17:01 So let's give them more work. Yeah, I agree. So this is from Murphy's Multiverse. This is also from showrunner Malcolm Spellman. Jeez, Spellman's got a lot to say this week, doesn't he? I was surprised. He listened up a bit. Yeah, they got him sauced.
Starting point is 00:17:15 I was surprised about how few of the upcoming Marvel movies have been announced, he said. Fans will start to become more and more clear as these projects get announced. So I think what's probably happening is as movies are revealed and more TV shows are like, guess what? This is coming. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:17:30 So, you know, I think that's what's going on. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, you can't – If there's a Captain America movie coming where he travels through time or whatever, they'll announce that after the Doctor Strange multiverse movie or the Spider-Verse movie or the Loki series. If somebody's going to be on a TV series where they travel with one of the Eternals or something, then they can't do that
Starting point is 00:17:48 until the Eternals movies come out because otherwise they'll know. Speaking of, though, do you want to know about the Loki synopses? Yes. Picking up immediately after Loki steals a Tesseract, again, it reads, he finds himself called before the Time Variance Authority, a bureaucratic organisation that exists outside of time and space, forced to answer for his crimes against the timeline and given a choice, face deletion from reality
Starting point is 00:18:09 or assist in catching an even greater triet. Three-riet. Interesting. And he chooses to be deleted from reality. One episode. Five minutes. Yep. It's just an elevator ride and then he pressures the big button
Starting point is 00:18:24 that wipes him from existence. So what do you think about that? Love it. What do you think the greater threat is? What's a cosmic thing that's always messing with time? A Kang? Is it Kang? Kang, Immortus.
Starting point is 00:18:34 They're the same guy. Yeah. Was it in the trailer? We may have already done this. Did we already do the spec on it? I think when we go to the Time Variance Authority in one of the trailers, I think there's some, statues on like a pillar. I think one of them may be Kangaroo Mortis or Ramatut
Starting point is 00:18:51 or one of those time travel guys. That may be one of those guys. Sick. Or it might be the Langoliers. Oh, my God. It might be the Langoliers. The TV show and short story. The Langoliers.
Starting point is 00:19:01 It must be, yeah. Sweeping epic, The Langoliers. I agree. I liked that. Just kidding. I mean, that trailer, that synopsis doesn't really tell us anything we didn't know, surely. No.
Starting point is 00:19:14 It's good to have it written down, though, isn't it? When's that out? June? June. Let me check. Let me check. June 11th. Oh, cool.
Starting point is 00:19:21 A bit over a month. That'll give Collings time to lapse in and out of a coma when you start editing those shows again. Finn Wittrock has been cast as Guy Gardner in HBO's Greenland series. I agree. You could keep that name. I'm Finn Wittrock. I protect this sector.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Yeah. I'm a little bit drunk. Yeah. No one comes out here. So we spend our days getting drunk. Just me and Fitzwyn Rocks. They're drunk by these asteroids. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:19:52 Look at what this rig could do. Look, it's a little drink scar. By the way, for people wondering, yeah, we're really drunk. That's why we're doing that. That's why this is happening, yeah. When we get really drunk, we sound like two men faking being drunk. Now what has Finn Wittrock been in? He was in Things.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Good, good, great. Let me check. I did look at that and I nearly put it in, but then I didn't, and now I know. He was in The Big Short. Okay, yeah. He was one of the young, like, I'm a young guy, I'm looking for money or whatever. Remember that? Oh, yeah. Okay, yeah. He was one of the young, like, I'm a young guy, I'm looking for money or whatever.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Remember that? Oh, yeah, sure, okay. And he's also in... Go on. Judy. There you go. Remember that Judy movie with Judy Garland movie? Apparently that's very good.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Okay, great. He was in If Beale Street Could Talk, which is apparently very good. I have not seen that. Yeah. Sounds like he's taken his artistic cred and turned it into Hollywood superhero Big Bucks. Seems that way. It was in La La Land. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:53 And Unbroken. It was in the movie Noah, which was about Noah. I don't know if you remember that. And it was in American Horror Story and a bunch of other stuff. Nice. Cool. There you go. So he's in things.
Starting point is 00:21:04 He's in lots of things. Oh, he's one of the clowns. I've seen the photos. He's got a big clown face. All right. In real life? Yeah. That's pretty insulting.
Starting point is 00:21:11 He's a real clown, yeah. I've also got a synopsis. Is that the thing that you were like, two news? I've got a synopsis. Or what was the other thing you said? Well, the other piece of news, I think Zack Snyder revealed today that he'd filmed some Green Lanterns. After this announcement, he was like, well, I can do Green Lanterns stuff too.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Yeah. And he released some stills of the Jon Stewart, like them filming on a green screen. Yeah. Apparently like in Zack Snyder's front yard or his driveway or something. Yeah, he did a bunch of it in his driveway. Yeah. So where's that gone?
Starting point is 00:21:42 Why didn't that make it into the movie? That was supposed to be Martian Manhunter and they wouldn't let him. We talked about it, I think. Did we? Okay, terrific. Oh, we didn't. Now we're talking about it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Is this good enough for you? So were they like, you can make, so that was intended to be. They just said no, you cannot put a Green Lantern in because they've got plans. All right then. This thing. Yeah, that'll do it. Well, I say release a new version of that movie, I reckon.
Starting point is 00:22:03 I agree. Your version, yeah. Make it even longer. Just somebody there being like, I'm supposed a new version of that movie, I reckon. I agree. Your version, yeah. Make it even longer. Just somebody there being like, I'm supposed to be Green Lantern, but they won't let me. But through some sort of loophole I can say I'm not Green Lantern, but I'm supposed to be Green Lantern. I would like Martian Manhunter Leaves, Green Lantern Lands,
Starting point is 00:22:18 just the same conversation again. Yep, great. Because they filmed it generically. Yeah, yeah, that's true. Where Ben Affleck never says specifically he's never like hello martin manhunter he's just like well this is something else but they could also they could add like he could be like i'm sure your parents would have been very proud of you i also think that's what i think also yeah i think that more than the previous guy. Yeah. Whoever that was. It's the same if you look up.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Yeah. I won't look up, though. This part has already been filmed, so I will not be looking up. I'll be looking dead ahead at you. That's right. Whoever you are. Green Lantern reinvents the show, the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies,
Starting point is 00:23:00 beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, the secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1994 with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half alien Bree Jata. They'll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns from comic book favourites who have never before seen heroes. This sounds a bit Watchmen series-esque. Doesn't it, though? Multiple eras and closeted characters and things like that.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mysteries through time and space and squids and Dr. Manhattan's in it. That's right. This is interesting. Very. So there you go. I am very intrigued to see what that looks like, especially because I feel like the CW stuff took,
Starting point is 00:23:39 even though it's not CW but a lot of the same people involved, took a turn with I feel like Superman and Lois. I'm like this is a Man Lois show. It's pretty good, mate. I wish it came back soon. This seems even more prestige TV. It sounds as far away from episode like Monster of the Week as you can get, which is very good.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Yeah, I agree. Watchmen's not getting another series, is it? No. Yeah, I didn't think so. Well, except it probably will at some point. Yeah, in comic form. Yeah. Written by Alan Moore.
Starting point is 00:24:03 He's back. Is he? No, he'll never be back. I'm never coming back. I live in a cave. I'm in comic form. Yeah. Written by Alan Moore. He's back. Is he? No, he'll never be back. I'm never coming back. I live in a cave. I'm not even drunk. This is how I am. Alright, I'm drunk. I'm living in a cave. I live in a cave.
Starting point is 00:24:15 This is from Collider. The Meg 2 has been confirmed by Jason Statham. It starts filming in January. Alright. They already killed the second Meg, so it should be called Meg 3, but fuck whatever. Yes. Jason Statham. Oh. It starts filming in January. Mm-hmm. All right. They already killed the second Meg, so it should be called Meg 3, but fuck whatever. What do I know?
Starting point is 00:24:30 Not a goddamn thing, apparently. That's right. Third Meg. Meggie Eggies. Three Megs of charm? No, Meggie Eggies. That doesn't make any sense. Where are all the Megs coming from?
Starting point is 00:24:41 They don't come from eggs. Yeah, they do. All right. Meggie Eggies it is. Brackets. The thing I said. Whatever that was. Yeah, whatever you said is also good.
Starting point is 00:24:50 I think it's good. I think it was good too. It wasn't good. I didn't think it was very good or even interesting. I can't remember anything that happens in it. I remember they all, look, we've mentioned, but they all had nice watches on. That's all I remember.
Starting point is 00:25:04 But whatever. It made a lot of money. Who gives a shit? Sure. This is also from Collider. Noah Centineo has left He-Man and the Master of the Universe in the titular role of He-Man. I wonder if it has anything to do with the cartoon reboot series.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Maybe it's not going ahead. But He-Man's hard to cast, man. Yeah. If you can't get Chris Hemsworth, what do you do? Right? You know what I mean? Yeah. Do you get the guy who played Hercules in the other Hercules movies
Starting point is 00:25:30 that wasn't The Rock, that guy? Maybe. Maybe. But, yeah, I mean, it's a certain, like, you would, you need someone with the physique of The Rock, but who doesn't look like The Rock. Exactly. And you can't put, like, it's a specific person
Starting point is 00:25:47 that could pull off like a blonde Bob. You know what I mean? Yeah. You couldn't put The Rock in a blonde Bob. You couldn't put Chris Evans in a blonde Bob. You couldn't. You probably couldn't even put Hemsworth in a blonde Bob. You can't do the Bob actually.
Starting point is 00:25:58 Yeah, maybe the Bob's right. Maybe the Bob's the problem here. Maybe Mattel or whatever is like, they've licensed it out and they're like, we have one stipulation. Like the previous one, you can change anything else about the world, you cannot change the Bob. We feel that was the failure of the previous movie. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:26:15 So this is why he's left? Yeah. Yeah. And now they've just got headshots and they're furiously drawing Bobs on them with different actors. Yeah, yeah. It's just not going to work. Oh, well.
Starting point is 00:26:25 One day, you know, one of the showrunners is going to be like just like furious at home. They can't find the actor they want and they flip their cereal bowl in anger that lands on like a magazine or the TV or whatever. It's like, oh, there it is. Perfect. Are you, where are you on this? I want to see another one, but I only want to see it in the vein
Starting point is 00:26:50 of the super weird one, like the original one. Yeah. I don't mean in the sense of like. Because it was bad and boring. Yeah, I don't mean in the sense of like, you know, it's they go to Earth and all that sort of thing. I don't want any of that. I don't want any of the.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Oh, I thought you meant the animated one. stuff. I don't want any of that. I don't want any of the go to Earth. Oh, I thought you meant the animated one. No, I mean the movie. Yeah, all the stuff, not all the stuff, the four minutes of Eternia stuff in that is quite interesting. Yeah, I want it in the vein of like the later Thor movies. Yeah. It's magic, but it's also technology.
Starting point is 00:27:21 And it's weird, but nobody bats an eye at how weird it is. You can do Lord of the Rings with Battle Cat and whatever. You know what I mean? It's fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wink and a nod. And then he skips over to Earth and they steal a bucket of chicken, which is all I remember from that first movie.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Okay, sure. We have two stipulations. Blonde Bob, he must steal a bucket of chicken. Have you seen Frank Welker's interview on that? No. So he played Skeletor in the original one, for those who don't know. And Frank Welker is also, he's a voice actor. No, sorry.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Who are you talking about? Frank Langella. Frank Langella, okay. Who's in, he's a great actor. He's in everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's he in? Name something that he's in.
Starting point is 00:28:00 Besides. Robot and Frank. There you go. It's a good one. He's like an older guy. He was Perry White in Superman Returns. Yes, he was yeah He did a bunch of stuff
Starting point is 00:28:05 But anyway He did it because His son was a fan And he was like I don't care This is fun Like it's bad And nobody saw it
Starting point is 00:28:12 But whatever He was Nixon In Frost Nixon There you go He was too But his son Fell asleep in the theatre With him
Starting point is 00:28:16 Oh no So he did it all for his son And his son fell asleep Yeah Oh boy And that was the first Post credit sting That I've ever seen
Starting point is 00:28:22 Oh yeah Comes out Says I'll be back Or whatever Thought it was a dream Do you watch the trailer For the Tomorrow War No what's that Oh, boy. And that was the first post-credits sting that I've ever seen. Oh, yeah. It comes out and says, I'll be back or whatever. I thought it was a dream. It was real. Did you watch the trailer for The Tomorrow War? No, what's that?
Starting point is 00:28:29 Okay, so it's where Chris Pratt has pulled through time because there's a war in the future and they're like, we need you to do this war. And he's like, all right. Is he a war kind of guy? I don't know. He's just a regular guy. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Huh. He's the actor Chris Pratt. You're grabbing some time. Yeah, yeah. I'm just the actor Chris Pratt, he said. You pulled me off my ranch. Yeah, yeah. I'm just the actor Chris Pratt, he said. You pulled me off my ranch. Yeah, yeah. Now I'm doing this, I guess.
Starting point is 00:28:48 So, yeah, it's based on something probably and it looks all right. I think it's coming to Amazon maybe or it isn't. That's all the information that we have. Wow. About the Tomorrow War. I might have more information had I watched the trailer. Do you want to watch it now? I'll watch it very quickly.
Starting point is 00:29:00 We can pause the podcast while you watch. This is going to be good. Do you know that for a fact? No, me watching it. The act of me watching it is going to be good. I'm going to give a high quality watching performance. But I don't know if the trailer
Starting point is 00:29:17 itself is going to be good. He's coming out of a helicopter or something? Yeah, that's right. It's going to be on Prime Video. Yes. Hey, I'm a guy in a regular time. I'm doing a war, but now it's a future war. Oh. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:29:32 July 2nd. Oh, I'm in a lab or something. There's blood in the lab. I shouldn't be blood in a lab. Suspicious. I'm in a helicopter now. Chris Pratt, that's me. Oh, the city's exploded.
Starting point is 00:29:43 Oh, everybody, everybody, shh. We're going up a stairwell. Oh, there's something in the stairwell. Look out! July 2nd. Is that it? Yep. And then there's like an ad for the boys. Great. They're like, look at all the other stuff.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Jack Ryan. Whoa. It's directed by Chris McKay. There you go. Great. Anchorman, I think. Who? He did Anchorman. Great. Anchorman, I think. Who? He did Anchorman. Ah. Or not. No, you're thinking of... I'm thinking of someone else.
Starting point is 00:30:09 That's Adam McKay. I am thinking of Adam McKay. He directed the Lego Batman movie. Ah. There you go. That's cool. I like that movie. There you go.
Starting point is 00:30:16 Anyway, I'm looking forward to the bit where he's in a helicopter. Or in that stairwell. I don't think it is. Maybe it is. I thought it was based on a book, but I guess not. Or it is. We're flying today, Mason. Sweet Tooth got a trailer.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Yes. What surprised me about this is that it is- Very colourful. Cartoon. We recently recorded an episode of Boo Club for Sweet Tooth. That's right. I'd forgotten that this was coming out so soon, so that's going to line up pretty well when that comes out.
Starting point is 00:30:44 But, yeah, it's kind of like bright and Disney-fied. Yeah. But reading the comic, it is not that at all. No. It's a nightmare. In Sweet Tooth you've got a little kid named Gus and he is part human and part deer because of some sort of apocalyptic event that happens.
Starting point is 00:31:04 And he's one of many half human, half animal hybrids. Yes. And he's been kept away in the deep, deep dark woods, but now he's been thrust into a quest to find a place where he can be accepted. Is that place even real? Who knows? Who knows?
Starting point is 00:31:21 But he doesn't even look like a Gus, I don't think, in this. He's kind of malnutrition looking. Yeah, he looks kind of. He looks like he's got deer horns, but he's like built like a deer. Yes. And he's all like gangly and skinny and long. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's great.
Starting point is 00:31:37 Perpetually scared. Yeah, it's really. But this is more of a cherub kind of looking kid. Yeah, exactly. I think it will be. I think it'll be. I honestly think it will be great. It will be darker than the trailer suggests,
Starting point is 00:31:48 but this is sort of, it feels like more of like a, the trailer makes it look more like a fantasy like epic adventure and we're going to all look at all the friends we're going to make along the way and I don't think that's the case at all. Think The Last of Us. Yeah. If it's fault, maybe it's not going to be like that. Maybe they've decided, I mean, you know,
Starting point is 00:32:04 that's the way it goes sometimes with this sort of stuff. Maybe they're like, you know, more people will watch it if it's more, you know, earnest and fun and uplifting. But, yeah, I think it will be a bit darker. Also the score, I feel like, feels uplifting and fun, but it's got a little dark element to it. And I'm like, this is a little, they've been like give it a little dark undercurrent.
Starting point is 00:32:27 That's right. It is. If people do want to sign up for Big Sandwich, that's coming up. This week though we are doing 1977 for. Year in a View. Year in a View, yeah. And it's a huge year for Star Wars obviously but we go through a bunch of other stuff that happened that year.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Mostly just makes up fun of things. Yeah, we make fun of things that came out. Yeah, we make fun of things. There's a huge back catalog. Reel to reel? I don't think so. Crap. We are definitively ranking all the years.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Yeah, we are. And this one was definitely up there. You got a favorite year? Yep. You have a favorite year? Yeah, it's this year. 2021. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:01 Yeah, it's pretty good, isn't it? Yeah, it's all right. Is it just because you can't remember any years prior to this? No. I remember all of the years. Huh. 2021. Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty good, isn't it? Yeah. It's all right. Is it just because you can't remember any years prior to this? No. I remember all of the years. Huh. 2021. All the other ones.
Starting point is 00:33:11 I remember them all. Yeah, nice. Okay, checks out. Yeah, yeah. Et cetera. Yeah. I'm a big fan of anybody just very definitively going et cetera. I think it's fun.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Yeah, so if you don't want to sign up, there's a huge back catalogue of also like movie commentaries and our Clickbait podcast, which people really enjoy for some reason. I won't. Yeah, that's right. It's mostly torturing me. Yeah, I won't give away what it is, but we recently recorded a new movie commentary.
Starting point is 00:33:44 Yeah. And people should be excited because it's a commentary I won't give away what it is, but we recently recorded a new movie commentary. Yeah. And people should be excited because it's a commentary where James is very, very excited for the movie for an amount of time and then see if he can spot when he turns on the movie. Just on a dime, he's like, I hate this. Why are we watching this? Too many chances. Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:34:03 It's really good. We'll see, won't we? Think Indiana Jones, but absolutely not that. That's right. Yeah, maybe you'll figure it out. Last bit of news, Mason. From the Hollywood Reporter, Adam Wingard is in talks for Son of Kong.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong. What did he direct? Godzilla vs. Kong. Nice. Insiders were saying, thinking. So it's corruption, is it? It seems that way. A bit of nepotism. I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:34:29 But Insiders thought that prior to this that they were winding down this Godzilla Kongiverse because King of Monsters, like, not well received, not great, didn't make a lot of money. And then the new one, everyone went, cool. We like these, I think. This is pretty much what we want. Yeah. So it's weird that that would have been like, we're winding this down because we made two good movies out of three.
Starting point is 00:34:53 Yeah. That would have been like. Yeah. I don't know. But anyway, they're doing more, which they should. It is the problem of like, where do you go? Yeah. But yeah, I guess Son of Kong, good as any.
Starting point is 00:35:02 Make him fight. Son of Godzilla. It's true. Maybe they're friends. They're like, I don't want to be a Godzilla dad. I want to be a, good as any. Make him fight. Son of Godzilla. That's true. Maybe they're friends. Like, I don't want to be a Godzilla, Dad. I want to be a Kong. I want to be a Kong. And Kong's like, no.
Starting point is 00:35:11 I want to be, no. I don't want to be a Godzilla. Son of Kong. You know what I mean? I don't know what I'm doing. Listen, we're both drunk. I'm drunker. And we're having a great time, aren't we?
Starting point is 00:35:21 Is that us or are you in the character of Kong in Godzilla? Listen, we're drunk. Yeah, we're having a great time. You can be the best Kong you can be, son. I'm drunker. Which one am I talking? It doesn't matter. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:35:39 As women, our life stages come with unique risk factors, like high blood pressure developed during pregnancy, which can put us two times more at risk of heart disease or stroke. Know your risks. Visit heartandstroke.ca. FX's The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. FX's The Veil, starring Elizabeth Moss, is now streaming on Disney+. And that's the news, so we should do a different thing. Did you see that interview with Mads Mikkelsen this week?
Starting point is 00:36:24 What was he talking about? I think it was on, it was an Esquire or Vice or GQ or something. He's pretty loose, man. I like his interviews. Yeah, but he was just, he talked about how. Oh, he was Reed Richards? Yeah, he was, he went in to read for Reed Richards. Wow.
Starting point is 00:36:40 During the era of the Michael Chiklis Fantastic Four. Yeah. You know, the golden era. The good one. And it was a case of just like, hey, stretch your arm. Stretch your arm towards the thing. Okay, cool, thanks for coming in kind of vibe. And he's like, I don't, why have I done this?
Starting point is 00:36:57 He'd be a good Doctor Doom. Yeah. Except he's already in the universe. That's true, yeah. I think I've done this before. Yeah, yeah. But goddamn, he would have been a good Doctor Doom. But then he was like, in that interview, he was like,
Starting point is 00:37:05 but he's friends with Yohan Griffith and Yohan Griffith got that role. So he's like, yeah, that's good that he got that. Yeah. He also reiterated one of my favorite Mads Mikkelsen stories because he's in the Rihanna video, Bitch Better Have My Money. Right, yeah, yeah. And so people are like, do you like Rihanna? What's your favorite Rihanna song?
Starting point is 00:37:22 And he's always like, yeah, I didn't really know, but my kids were like, you should definitely do this and I've listened to it since and I really love it. And then he's like, but obviously my favourite is Bitch, better have my money because after all I am the bitch. So I'm like, just imagine that in his voice. Did you see the interview with the guy that he kept introducing himself to?
Starting point is 00:37:42 No. Oh, yes, yes, yes, that's right. As a producer or a director or somebody or a cast. The interview with the guy that he kept introducing himself to. Oh, yes, yes, yes. That's right. As a producer or a director or somebody or a cast. It's like Lorenzo did Bonaventura or somebody like that. And he keeps introducing himself to this guy. And every time he's like, yeah, we've met. And I'm like, I'm running this production. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Yeah. All right. Are they remaking that drunk movie with DiCaprio or whatever? I saw that, yeah. I haven't seen it, but why? I mean, I haven't seen it. I will see that one, though. That's one I will watch.
Starting point is 00:38:09 You liked it, didn't you? Yeah, it's good. The American remake should be called Leonardo DiCaprio, and I'm pretty drunk, actually. I'm pretty drunk, actually, right now. I'm sourcing the gills, man. Romeo, Romeo. Remember that one?
Starting point is 00:38:22 Yeah, I remember. That's my breakout film's Baz Luhrmann. Baz Luhrmann. Nice. What's eating a Gilbert grape? I'm eating some grapes. I'll tell you. Fermented grapes, though.
Starting point is 00:38:33 It's wine. I'm drinking a wine. This is my brand, probably. That's right. It's one of my hobbies. All my girlfriends are very young. What's going on there? I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Well, I know why. Okay, Invincible. Okay, Invincible. Yeah. Invincible. Yes. It's just wrapped season one. We all had a good time with it, presumably. We're going to talk in some generalities,
Starting point is 00:38:54 but if you haven't seen it, some spoilers and then some really heavy spoilers. So light spoilers, some spoilers. If you haven't seen it, just don't listen, all right? Just don't listen. If you're thinking about watching it, just watch it. And then at the end. Don't watch it with your kids.
Starting point is 00:39:09 No, absolutely do not. Unless your kids are adults. Yeah, that's right. It looks like something you might want to watch with your kids, but do not. And then at the end, I'd like to go through some future storylines. Yeah. Where if you haven't read the comics, skip that. Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:39:20 Because I think there's some interesting things coming up that I'd like to get into. Well, I have read the comics, but it has been quite a while, but I'm okay if you spoil them because otherwise we'll have to cut this whole section out. That's exactly right. Or I'll have to leave and you'll just have to do it as a monologue. I could do it too. I know you could.
Starting point is 00:39:34 I couldn't. Oh. I couldn't do it. Oh, no. I just called you bluff. I wasn't even meaning to. So what did you think of, first of all, the hour-long episodes? Loved it.
Starting point is 00:39:43 Me too. It's also unusual for an animated show to go for an hour. It felt like you got a really good chunk of narrative every week. Yeah. It was only eight, but it felt longer because technically, if you cut it in half, 16. Oh. If you don't mind me saying so.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Oh, that's perfect. Yeah, thank you. You've cracked the code. I have, haven't I? And I think part of the reason why they were able to do this is because of the animation style. I think it's like Dragon Ball Z-esque in the sense of there's a lot of standstill, mouth moving, and then like a burst of action,
Starting point is 00:40:17 and then they're back to standing still. Yeah. I don't mean this in a bad way because it doesn't affect the show at all. There are obvious corners cut to get it to the length it is and to get everybody in and all the characters, and I think all of that is fine. Well, I would say I didn't really notice that, so job well done. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:40:36 But you're right. You're right in the sense that there will be a long, involved conversation and then somebody's head will get burst. Exactly. Speaking of conversations. Yes, we're having one right now. We are and that's good. But we did do an episode one review of this if people don't want to check it out,
Starting point is 00:40:54 but don't bother. We'll just do this, right? Yes. The voice cast is amazing. Yeah. And that's also, I think, part of the reason why you might not notice the animation because the performances are really good and everybody's famous. And every now and then I'll just pause it and just be like,
Starting point is 00:41:08 you know, that function that has on Prime Video where you just go, oh, yeah, this person's in it and that person's in it. Oh, my God. Justin Roiland is in it. Justin Roiland is in it as someone. Like a college student. Yeah, that's right. He gets turned into a robot.
Starting point is 00:41:19 He gets turned into a robot, yeah. So it's incredible. It's an incredible cast. Even things like they got Seth Rogen to voice Alan the Alien, who's also working on a live-action adaptation, which is entirely separate than this. Yeah. And so there's little bit parts that you'd think, you know,
Starting point is 00:41:34 would be really interesting to do. I saw, did you see the Nick Offerman art as? No. What's this? As, what's his name? The Omni-Man. Oh, I didn't see As, what's his name? Omni-Man. Oh, I didn't say that, no.
Starting point is 00:41:47 That would be good. But what do you think about, what would you say to Jon Hamm as Omni-Man if they did that? Omni-Ham. Omni-Ham, exactly. I say yes. Yeah. I mean, you could cast him as any of those guys, really, because they all kind of look like that.
Starting point is 00:42:00 Sure. You know what I mean? Not all of them, but a lot of them, yeah. Could you get J.K. Simmons as Omni-Man? He might be a bit old, but he could. There's a bunch of other people that you could get him out. Because he is the voice of Omni-Man. Yes, yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:12 You could get, I'd say he'd probably make a better Conquest. Remember the character Conquest? Oh, yeah. He's like a bald, enormous guy with a robot arm. Yes. We'll talk about him later because he's a character that shows up later. Or he could be the tailor.. Or he could be the tailor. Yeah, he could be the tailor.
Starting point is 00:42:27 The superhero costume tailor. Or even Cecil. Yeah, okay. Who do you think of this voice cast could simply be slotted into the live action version? Well, Mark Hamill is the tailor, so I think that's fine. Yeah, I think that is also fine. You put him right in.
Starting point is 00:42:39 I think Sandra Oh would be great as the mother. I think if Steven Yeun was younger, definitely. But he's like 38. And even though he looks young, he doesn't look 17, so you couldn't do it. Tom Holland. Tom Holland, perfect. No, Sandra Oh, yeah, definitely.
Starting point is 00:42:55 Yeah. 100%, yeah. I think you could do Walton Goggins as Cecil. You'd have to shave his head, though. Yep, that's fine. Or the top. Yep, definitely's fine. Or the top. Yep, definitely. Definitely. Couldn't get Jace's Manzoukas as Robot.
Starting point is 00:43:10 No. As always two characters in it. But he's not. He doesn't voice Robot. That's great. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. So what I also like about this is, again,
Starting point is 00:43:18 this speaks to like why you wouldn't listen to this with your kids. Watch this with your kids. Don't listen to it. No, don't listen to this with your kids. But people though your kids. Don't listen to it. No, don't listen to this with your kids. But people, though, can't stop you. James is going to say a very bad word right now. That's right. It's Justice League-esque.
Starting point is 00:43:31 Yep, sure. The animated stuff. Yes. To start with. Like, it starts with a very generic, you know, like action kind of heavy White House punch up on the law. Yes, that's true. And it's fun and whatever.
Starting point is 00:43:45 And the heroes save the day in a nice, non-threatening way. But if you took all of those characters and replaced them with Justice League members, you couldn't tell. It's just the same. And there's not like an incredible amount of violence and gore until, and I guess we're just going to do spoilers now, the twist at the end of the first episode where I was interested to see all the reactions we got from people who hadn't seen it before and didn't know anything about it.
Starting point is 00:44:07 When it takes that turn, an Omni-Man just slaughters their version of the Justice League, the Guardians of the Globe. Is that different from the comic books? You've seen it recently. It is. Yeah. I reread it recently. Yes.
Starting point is 00:44:18 He kills them like instantly. There's no fight. He just does it. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. like instantly. There's no fight. He just does it. Yeah, that's right, yeah. Because I think they've powered him down slightly or in this version he is intentionally getting hit to make it look like that he was also attacked by something. Yeah, but in the comic books he is essentially,
Starting point is 00:44:38 he's on another level, in another league to everybody else. It's not even close. Including his own son. Yeah, exactly, which is also evident later on. But, yeah, I like also they don't, because in the comic also they kind of, there is a little bit of a mystery who did it for a very brief period of time. Yeah. But I think in not doing that, you get that fight sequence,
Starting point is 00:44:59 which is also a post-credit sequence that goes for like, it's just a ten-minute slaughter. Yeah. Like it's crazy. And like the head squish and breaks the woman's neck and turns her whole head backwards and she coughs up blood. And I think you also, I think this does work better in the sense that you need to know that these people are credible threats to him.
Starting point is 00:45:17 Yes. Like if he just comes in and slaughters some people who you've just seen, you know, move a bus out of the way of some monsters or something like that, then that's not that impressive. You're like, what can they do? But to see them actually, you know, be a genuine threat to him, I think is more interesting. And you see when the speed, there's a red rush,
Starting point is 00:45:34 he's punching him and he's just breaking his hands, hitting him. It's just, it's crazy. Another thing that's good about this, I think, is the growth of Mark Grayson is very, it feels very natural. You know what I mean? It starts like, oh, man, I wish I had powers and stuff. And then it's, you know, it slowly unfolds and he grows as a character and he makes mistakes, which is, again, also very in line with the comic.
Starting point is 00:45:54 And he's constantly like, why am I doing this? I seem to kill a lot of people by accident even when I do the right thing. Yeah. And there's moments in this later in it where if you're in a superhero battle in the city and you get thrown through a building, you kill 400 people just by accident. They're not empty buildings, right? It's the middle of the workday.
Starting point is 00:46:15 And again, that's more evident later on. But another thing I think is really good about this is, and I think it's mostly Jason Mantzoukas. Am I saying that right? Yes. Then they become basically the Young Justice League. The teen team. The teen team become the guardians of the globe
Starting point is 00:46:33 and that's a very fun dynamic. And also they're not very good. No, that's true, yeah. And they get better but there's moments where, for example, when they take on Machine Head who's like a local crime boss, and all these intergalactic threats that he's kind of taken on to protect himself, and it's just a bloodbath. Including Battle Beast.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Yeah. It's just like a, weren't they a little toy you could get as a kid, the Battle Beasts? Were they? I think they were. I'm going to look it up while you continue talking. I thought he was invented specifically for this. Well.
Starting point is 00:47:07 Yeah. Well. But, yeah, it is odd that he has Battle Beast on his team, though, because Battle Beast is, I mean, you find out kind of as the series progresses, he's just roaming the galaxy just looking for somebody to fight who's, like, on his level. So, yeah, it would be weird. Battle Beasts were a series of action figures that looked like that.
Starting point is 00:47:25 Oh, yeah. He looks exactly like them. It's not dissimilar, is it? No, it's not. I don't think Battle Beast has an eye patch, though. No, but look, there's a variety of them. Hang on. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:34 Oh, they're not all lion men, though. No, no, no, that's true. Yeah. Who voices Battle Beast? Can't remember. Doesn't matter, does it? Doesn't matter. It matters to him.
Starting point is 00:47:43 Yeah, it probably does, I guess, doesn't it? Should I look it up? Nah. Great. I'll do it. It doesn't matter, does it? It doesn't matter. It matters to him. Yeah, it probably does, I guess, doesn't it? Should I look it up? Nah. Great. I'll do it. You continue talking. And I also think, and I think we talked about this when we talked about the comic in the book club, BigSandwich.co, that the powers of the different characters and the costumes
Starting point is 00:47:59 and the suits, they're all very unique, which is very hard to do because it feels like everything's being done. And even though this started in like 2003, every now and then, or not even every now and then, quite regularly, a new superhero will turn up or a villain who's got something that you haven't seen before. That's true. Or a twist on something that you have seen before.
Starting point is 00:48:20 There's a guy who wears like a vest that has this Cthulhu-like demon tentacle monster in it. Yeah, maybe it's a portal. Maybe it's coming out of his body. We don't know. Yeah, and again, that's something that's elaborated on later and that's just one of kind of many things that show up. Like what's his name?
Starting point is 00:48:39 The Jason Manzoukas character. What's his name? His name is Rexplode. Rexplode, yeah. I mean that's essentially just Gambit, but he does, like, interesting stuff with it. You know what I mean? Battlebeast is portrayed by Michael Dorn,
Starting point is 00:48:52 who you'll know as Worf. Well, I knew it was somebody that I knew. Well, everybody in this is somebody I know, I guess, yeah. But no, and even, like, Monster Girl is the Hulk, really. Yes, uh-huh. But the twist is that every time she uses it, she gets younger. So she's supposed to be 28 but she looks like 12 or whatever. So it's like an affliction in a different way that the Hulk is, I guess.
Starting point is 00:49:13 Yeah. Yeah, but I think also the character of Robot's really interesting. We're just doing full spoilers, right? Yes. Where it's a guy who. Don't spoil Robot stuff. Just kidding. He's a deformed human being in a tube.
Starting point is 00:49:26 Yeah. And he's... But everyone thinks he's a robot because he's controlling them remotely. And then he clones Rexplode to have a human body. But in doing so, the original version of him is left. Yeah. And so it's a prestige situation. It really is, yeah. And then he...
Starting point is 00:49:42 It's an upload your brain to a computer situation except you haven't actually uploaded it. You've just copied it. So I thought, yeah, and that was translated really well as well. I think it's more kind of is it more ominous in the comic as to who he is? I can't remember. Because it's kind of like hinted at that maybe he's a bad
Starting point is 00:49:58 guy early on. Yeah, it is. I can't really remember. It is, yeah. He has a whole journey, all those kind of things. And we're getting two more seasons of it. Yeah, well, that was the one thing I wanted to announce up top. They didn't just announce one. They announced two. Which is good because a lot more series.
Starting point is 00:50:12 There's so much more. Because how many issues of the comic? It's 130-odd, 140-odd. Do you think they could squeeze it all into two more seasons? No. No, I think that needs to be. Definitely not. So I think the decision needs to be made by us,
Starting point is 00:50:24 which is does Amazon just keep renewing this? Yes. Yes. I mean, I think they should, but do Amazon follow the playbook of Netflix in the sense that they do two or three seasons of something and then just cancel it no matter what? I think they've got so much money that they can just keep doing it, I think. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:42 I mean, then I think like they canceled the tick and I'm like, boo, I think. Yeah. I mean, then I think, like, they cancelled The Tick, and I'm like, boo, I really like The Tick. Yes. But there's not a lot of stuff I can think of that I liked that has been cancelled. Jack Ryan. How many seasons of Jack Ryan have there been? 100 seasons.
Starting point is 00:50:54 100 seasons? Nice. That's enough time. And they're doing Jack Ryan into the Spider-Verse where he meets all the other Jack Ryans. Whoa. That's right. There's a Moscato Mason.
Starting point is 00:51:03 Okay. What are you doing? Swatting. That's not how you swat a mosquito. That's how I swat a mosquito. You don't slap a mosquito. You's a Moscato Mason. Okay. What are you doing? Swatting. That's not how you swat a mosquito. That's how I swat a mosquito. You try to slap a mosquito to some way, you've got to squash it. It's on the wall. There it is.
Starting point is 00:51:11 Yeah, nice. Say leave him be. You. He'll be back and I'll kill him. Yeah, okay. But, of course, again, the big twist. I want to get back to Omni-Man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:22 There's a few things that they do with that. Omni-Ham. Thank you. There's a few things they do with that character. He's one of the other Omni- get back to Omni-Man. Yeah. There's a few things that they do with that. Omni-Ham. Thank you. There's a few things they do with that character. He's one of the other Omni-Men from the Omni-Manverse. That's good. That I think are different from the comics that are good. You mentioned how he seems more unstable in this. Yes, and he seems more like abusive in the sense that
Starting point is 00:51:41 because he says it again in the finale. He's beating up Mark and he's like, why are you making me do this? Which is not cool in my opinion. No, it's not cool. But you don't see him go, you don't see a lot of like cracks in his personality in the way in this. You see like that he's just seething like most of the time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:00 It's a moment where I think you again mentioned this, where he hits Mark like quite hard early on and he's like, what the hell? Yeah. There's a moment where, I think you again mentioned this, where he hits Mark like quite hard early on and he's like, what the hell? Yeah. He seems more serene in the. Yeah. Like in the comic books he definitely seems like he's just doing a job and none of this is affecting him in any way really.
Starting point is 00:52:18 Yeah, that's right. Yeah, but until of course the moment where he leaves after beating up his son. But that whole scene is way more brutal. But there's even little things. In the comic books? No, in this. Is there? I think so, yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:29 I'll talk about why. But even things like when the veil comes off and his wife finds out that he murdered the Guardians of the Globe or whatever, you notice he stops walking. So in the house. Yes. walking so in the house yes he earlier on he would walk around and he'd be in regular clothes and he just like he just stands like a plank and just floats because he doesn't have to yeah like he was only doing that as a means of fitting in and it's kind of it just goes one of those i think little hints it's like he doesn't care he's not like anybody else you know what i mean mark starts doing that as well towards yeah he does yeah is that does, yeah. Is that because? It's easier.
Starting point is 00:53:09 Or it might also be because his house got cleaned and he's like, I don't want to muddy the carpets. Sure, yeah. I kind of get that vibe. Yeah. But so when the fight breaks out, there's a few things that they added in this that were from the comics where they try to stop him and they just throw a bunch of stuff at him. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:22 And some of it sort of works like for a time. Yes. There's the giant tentacle monster. There's the robot zombie man and there's the laser from space which doesn't really work at all. But it's good to see a Akira reference. Yeah, absolutely. Remember the laser from space?
Starting point is 00:53:40 The laser from space. I've never seen all of Akira. But you remember the laser from space. I know the laser from space from Akira, yes. He's like, you shan't be getting me again with that laser from space. I've never seen all of Akira. But you remember the laser from space. I know the laser from space from Akira, yes. He's like, you shan't be getting me again with that laser from space. Good line. Stop this. Good line, I think.
Starting point is 00:53:51 Straight from Akira. That's right. But when he starts, he just starts killing people. That's not in the comic because in the comic he's not, he doesn't go out of his way to murder people. Yeah. He just doesn't care. Yes.
Starting point is 00:54:07 And there's a moment where Mark saves the pilot and he just, like, squashes his whole head just for, like, for no reason. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then the bit that everybody's been talking about is the train. Yeah, where he holds Mark up into an approaching train and pushes him through the entire train and kills everybody, yeah. Horrendous. No good.
Starting point is 00:54:26 No good. Yeah. But I did also like that moment where he has the flashback to the baseball and he's like, there's that moment of like he gets it. Yes. And you know that there's enough of a hint. It's not a hint. It's very obvious.
Starting point is 00:54:38 There's enough information there that you realize that there's something else going on there with him. Yes. And maybe we'll see him again real soon. But then he had to go back to his home planet. Yeah, that's right. Poochie style. Bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop.
Starting point is 00:54:53 Do you have anything else to say? Because I want to talk about the future stuff. Please. And this is, if you haven't read the comics, I would just skip this. There'll be a time code. Colin will put it in. But there's a few stories that they hint at at the end of this because there's like, look at all these threats coming.
Starting point is 00:55:09 None of that shit matters. Like they're like minor scuffles because there's like crazy stuff in the comics at least that are coming up. So I thought that was interesting that they showed all these little things of like, look what these guys are working on. It's like that doesn't matter at all. Yeah, like the Mauler twins go back to jail and other stuff. Other stuff happens.
Starting point is 00:55:33 There's like a lava man or whatever. He's got lava monsters and stuff. Oh, yeah, yeah. And all these things like reappear. Doesn't matter. Anyway, spoilers. So a few things I want to talk about. There's Anne Strong Levy.
Starting point is 00:55:46 He's a guy. Yes. And he's basically gathered every parallel version of himself. Oh, that's right. And he's going to put all of them into his own mind. So he's got all the information from across multiple dimensions and galaxies. And then as a result of that, Mark Grayson interferes
Starting point is 00:56:03 and he kind of gets disfigured, not kind of, he does, and then he blames everything on Invincible and he uses his intellect to just target him specifically, even though it wasn't Invincible's fault. Uh-huh. And then as a result of that, he starts the Invincible war where he just grabs all the different Invincibles from different timelines who are equally powerful as Mark who gets stronger, you know, every day,
Starting point is 00:56:28 brings them to Earth and they just fucking wreck shop. Yes. And there's just hundreds of them just. And it turns out as well that Mark in most dimensions is terrible. Like he took the turn. Yeah. And he's just a bad. And some have a mohawk.
Starting point is 00:56:42 Nice. So that's one of the things, many things coming up. Another one is, I mentioned earlier, Conquest shows up where the Viltrumites basically give Mark an ultimatum. They say, your father's left. We don't know where he is, which I'll talk about. You are now in charge of this planet. It is your job to take it over.
Starting point is 00:57:03 And if you don't, we're going to come back, we're going to kill you, we're going to kill everybody else. And so they send in Conquest who's just this absolute fucking lunatic who is not really about like the empire or expanding anything. He's just a murderer. Yeah. And he doesn't get often the chance to just murder a bunch of people. And there's just this insane knockdown drag out brawl between him
Starting point is 00:57:27 and Invincible that is terrifying. It is. Yeah. Another one is you find out where his father goes. Doesn't he go to an insect planet? He goes to an insect planet, starts another family. Mark ends up having a brother. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Kid Omni-Man. Kid Omni-Man. Is his name Damien? I think it's Damien. It's something else. Something like that, yeah. Yeah. And he starts off as like I guess a Nightwing-esque character,
Starting point is 00:57:47 but he has his own storyline and whatever. There's the sequence come back, you know, those squid things. They're on Mars, yeah. I think they were in that sequence anyway. Dinosaurus shows up who's like a, he's basically, he's an environmentalist but he's also a big red dinosaur. Yeah. And he's bad news. But he's also a big red dinosaur. Yeah. And he's bad news.
Starting point is 00:58:07 But he's also doing good stuff for the planet. He's bad news. Yeah. There's also like they go into the future. They go into past. There's the alternate realities and time travel and the weird dimension where people age, a bunch of people get stuck in that. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:58:23 There's so much stuff coming up. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That I've spoiled. So I hope you didn't stuck in that. It's crazy. There's so much stuff coming up that I've spoiled. So I hope you didn't listen to that. Oh, no. But, again, I don't think people will probably remember because this will probably take five, maybe ten years to play out. And to be clear, the actual depiction of those things will be more interesting than you just saying it.
Starting point is 00:58:41 That is true, yeah. I think even if you just heard that and you were spoiled, I think it will be a bit of a treat to see it true, yeah. I think even if you just heard that and you were spoiled, I think it'll be a bit of a treat to see it in animated form. I think there's also. Unless it's just scratchy stick figures of your voiceover of saying it. I think there's also a very good chance that, like, we don't see Omni-Man next season at all. Well, I'd say we probably will.
Starting point is 00:59:00 Yeah, right. But you could just not do that for another season if you didn't want to. That's true. Yeah. So, yeah, we'll see. What do you think we're do that for another season if you didn't want to. That's true. Yeah. So, yeah. But we'll see. What do you think we're going to get next season? Ah.
Starting point is 00:59:10 Oh, and there's a huge war. There's a Viltrumite war. Yeah. In the whole galaxy he's involved in. Yes. I forgot about that. That's like the biggest thing. Because they're sick to death of these guys.
Starting point is 00:59:18 They're sick to death of these bloody guys running around with their mustaches causing bad news. Look, I think. I feel like I've just talked at you this whole time. No, it's good. I apologize. But I'm a good listener, which comes across very well in a podcast. I think he will – I think Invincible may have to – you did mention that some of the stuff that is in that post-credits
Starting point is 00:59:39 is going to be kind of small potatoes. Yeah. But I think just to make it an episode monster of the week thing, I think he will have to go and, you know, get rid of that infestation on Mars. Yeah. Get rid of those molten men, that kind of thing. Yeah, bits and bobs.
Starting point is 00:59:53 Maybe he'll, perhaps, you know, he'll do clean up at the start of the first, you know, the first bit of each episode. Yeah, right. And the larger story will happen. Oh, cool. That'd be cool. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 01:00:03 I would like that. Well, good. Anyway, season two probably around this time next year, I guess. They've probably already renewed it. Yeah. They're probably already working on it, I'd imagine. They're probably just. Like before they announced it, I mean.
Starting point is 01:00:15 Probably just going to, you know, copy over the animation from the previous season. That's what I'd do. Talk over the top of it. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Okay, let's put it, imagine He's fighting the squids on Mars. Yeah, a motion. Do you think that would be good?
Starting point is 01:00:27 It would be. It would be. Oh, wait, we've got that footage from the first one. Yeah, nice. We'll put it in. Yeah, nice. We'll put it in, yeah. Great stuff.
Starting point is 01:00:35 Let's just loop that stuff in the post-credits for 20 minutes. All right, should we move on to the next segment of the show then? Best show ever. Yeah, it was. I agreed. What we're reading and then also what we going to read. I'm doing the thing. What are we Westworld today?
Starting point is 01:00:54 Stepping it up, Mason. In a way, you are doing that, yes. It is. It is an AM. What are you reading? Well, I'll tell you one thing we both watched. What's that? Five Minutes of Thunder Force on Netflix.
Starting point is 01:01:05 Oh, fuck you. Five minutes? That's... It was like 20 minutes. That went forever. Yeah, it was like 20 minutes. Did you finish it? No. I said I was going to, but then I didn't. It's not even bad. It's Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany... No, it's...
Starting point is 01:01:21 I've forgotten. Who's in it? I'll look it up. I was going to say Rose Byrne. She's not in it at all. I'm thinking of Bridesmaids. Yeah, you're thinking of Bridesmaids. But anyway, it's on Netflix and we were like, let's watch it as a joke.
Starting point is 01:01:37 No, you said let's watch it as a joke. Octavia Spencer. Yeah, there we go. Two people who are – Those are great. Right? I think Jason Bateman's in it. I didn't get to that part. Yeah, Jason Bateman's in it. Pom Clemente, for people who don't know, is Mantis. Oh, yeah, she's in people who are. That was great. Right? I think Jason Bateman's in it. I didn't get to that part.
Starting point is 01:01:45 Yeah, Jason Bateman's in it. Pom Clemente, who people will know as Mantis. Oh, yeah, she's in it as well. I've forgotten all of this. Yeah. Bobby Cannavale is in it. You know what the biggest crime is? It's boring.
Starting point is 01:01:55 It's boring. Yeah. And it's not funny. Like, at all. Yeah. Oh, it's really sad. It really feels like a paycheck. Well, it was also Melissa McCarthy's husband who directed it.
Starting point is 01:02:05 Oh, okay, right. So it was a paycheck and a- Yeah, but apparently he's very nice and I feel bad saying this, but it's just not anything. It's not unique or interesting or funny or- Yeah, it's a very, very- I mean, again, we only watched five to 20 minutes of it. No, it was like we watched like 40 minutes.
Starting point is 01:02:23 I'm going to bring it up on my Netflix. I'll tell you exactly because I'm telling you, we watched it for way longer than you think we did well for me the time just sped by you seem to not be bothered by it as much as i was i well i i went in and i took it out of my continue list i went online and i went how do i get rid of this so i don't see this every time i open up my fucking Netflix. So it doesn't affect your algorithm. What's it called? Anyway, Melissa McCarthy accidentally gets superpowers and Octavia Spencer gets superpowers and then they do some superhero stuff. But it's so generic.
Starting point is 01:02:52 We watched 24 minutes of it. I knew it. I nearly clicked on it, but I didn't have to. If you wave your cursor over it. Yeah, it's just really unfunny. But in the meantime, what I was going to watch was Without Remorse, which is the new Michael B. Jordan. Oh, yeah, I've heard mixed to good things.
Starting point is 01:03:10 Well, I don't know yet. Based on the Tom Clancy video game, Thunder Force. No, it's based on the Tom Clancy books. So he's got a name. Michael B. Jordan, the character's got a name and a pseudonym, but I think in this movie he's going a name in a he's got it's Michael B. Jordan the character's got a name in a shooting name but I think he's in this movie he's going by John Kelly
Starting point is 01:03:27 he's he's the he's the six in Rainbow Six you know the games the novels and stuff like that or he will be
Starting point is 01:03:35 but he's a man he's a marine and he's and his family's killed and he goes on a mission of revenge wow he's his most
Starting point is 01:03:42 sounds like something Mark Wahlberg would do he's Tom Clancy's I would say second most famous character after Jack Ryan right like he's action Jack bench. Wow. He's his most. Sounds like something Mark Wahlberg would do. He's Tom Clancy's, I would say, second most famous character after Jack Ryan. Right. Like he's action Jack Ryan, basically. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. But I didn't watch that because I was going to, but then Disney Plus was like, hey, do
Starting point is 01:03:54 you want to watch Nomadland, the Francis McDormand Oscar winning movie? Is that good? Yeah, it's good. I should watch that. Yeah. I mean, it's a bit, I would say it's quite meandering. Yeah. But it's like, because it's about,
Starting point is 01:04:06 Frances McDormand plays a woman who kind of lost it all in the last, you know, great recession situation. And now she's got Bitcoin. Yeah, that's right. And she decides to tour America and extol the virtues of Bitcoin. No, she's just like a nomad and she sort of goes across the US and meets other nomads. I think there are some real nomads in it.
Starting point is 01:04:29 Oh, right. I don't think they're using their real names, but I think they've put in real people who've done this and that's their life. Oh, cool. And it comes across naturally then, I imagine. Yeah, I liked it. It's a good movie.
Starting point is 01:04:40 I'll check it out. I think it should win an Oscar. For? Nomadland. All right. Yeah. That it out. I think it should win an Oscar. For? No Mad Land. All right. Yeah. That's interesting. What have you been watching?
Starting point is 01:04:51 Or did Thunder Force put you off all forms of entertainment? It really did. It really did. I just, what? It's the same problem I have with like, Hancock is way better. Let me just preface that. Wow. No one's ever said that before.
Starting point is 01:05:05 It's that kind of like. But Jason Bateman's in that too. Yeah, he is. But it's like we know superheroes. You guys like superheroes. Superheroes are cool. Yeah, yeah. And so we're going to make a little twist on something that you know and love.
Starting point is 01:05:16 You don't know what you're doing. Yeah. Not saying I could make something better because I definitely couldn't. I definitely couldn't. But like I just felt pandering like, what's hot? Superheroes. Yeah. Shut up.
Starting point is 01:05:28 Exactly. We'll do a buddy thing. Yeah. Because superheroes, what if one was super strong and one could turn invisible or something? Whatever. Who cares? Again, we're talking about the Invincible where characters
Starting point is 01:05:43 have Cthulhu tentacles Coming out of their Bodies or whatever Just to be like Oh yeah who cares One's invisible One's strong One's invincible And there's a character
Starting point is 01:05:51 Called Laser Bob Clemente Plays a woman Called Laser Who shoots lightning That's right She doesn't shoot lasers That's right
Starting point is 01:05:57 So it's the miscreants It's all coming back to me now Yeah yeah yeah The miscreants Are like a comet Came to earth And it gave everybody Who's evil
Starting point is 01:06:04 Superpowers They're called the miscreants That's right And came to earth and it gave everybody who's evil superpowers. Yes. They're called the miscreants. That's right. And it's like as soon as it starts, it's like, oh, no. Oh, no. You know when they name things? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:13 You know like when zombies aren't called zombies or whatever? Yeah. Look, it's the miscreants. That's right. Great stuff. It's Star Wars Day on May the 4th. Do you know The Bad Batch? I'm going to start watching that.
Starting point is 01:06:22 Oh, right. It's the animated sequel to the Clone Wars series. Oh. But not only that, at Federation Square on Sunday, they had a Star Wars event. Federation Square is like Times Square for Melbourne, so nothing. It's like a place that has burger joints and whatever. It's all right.
Starting point is 01:06:40 There's an Apple store in there? There's an Apple store and whatever. So there was like a life-size TIE fighter and people in cosplay and like little kid Jedi training stuff. And I took my son and we went and we built some Lego and he did some Jedi training. He choked a guy. Choked a guy out.
Starting point is 01:06:55 It was pretty cool. Like for a kid, for me, I'm like, I would never go to this. He sliced open a tauntaun which turned out to just be a dog. Slept in it, had a little nap. He didn't have a lightsaber. He had a machete. I gave him a machete. No, it was genuinely cool.
Starting point is 01:07:10 And it was cool. People were dressed up and went in. They got the local cosplay people who had amazing armours and suits and recreations and stuff, and it was pretty cool, to be honest. What do you think of that? I think it's good. Yeah. And Lego really got me, I tell you that much.
Starting point is 01:07:28 Because they had a free Lego building station. They give you a little X-Wing for free that you build. Really? But it's really like one of those things where now it's like let's get everything that's ever been made in Lego. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. So they're making money.
Starting point is 01:07:39 They've already made money off me. They know what they're doing. Yeah. Good stuff. Nice. Anyway, Star Wars, you know, it's still here. Who knew? Who knew?
Starting point is 01:07:47 Good on them. Who knew? Yeah. Those battlers, you know. Did you think after the rollicking success of The Mandalorian that Star Wars would stop? Is that what you thought? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:08:03 Should we do the next segment of the show? I can see you've got it lined up. Mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, I know they're here right now. We're going to do that as... It's more dynamic. It's like an FM radio station. It goes that way, doesn't it? Like, Triple M wouldn't just slam that in there. They'd fade it in, you know? Triple M. That's right. So if you do want to reach the show, you can go via Triple M. That's right.
Starting point is 01:08:36 Or give us a shout-out on Triple M. That'd be great. Give us a shout-out on Triple M. Just, yeah. Ask the grill team. Yeah, or whatever's happening at the moment. Or weeklyplanetpod at gmail.com. Or hashtag weeklyplanetpod.
Starting point is 01:08:50 Some people have also sent through some, they sent through a short audio recording, a voice memo, which we play. Should we do those first or do you want to do someone else first? Let's do the voice memo. All right. So one we have screened, one we have no screened. That's right. And now for the main event.
Starting point is 01:09:05 Which is what? I'm going to play some of, I forgot the name of that movie. I was going to do a joke. Thunderforce through the headphones. That would be an incredible joke. We can all hear it. Here we go. Oh, you've got to get plugged in, mate.
Starting point is 01:09:17 Plugged in here. It's like going online, isn't it? Yeah, that's right. This is from. Is this screened or unscreen is uh this is screened all right cool oh he'll say his name are you nice hey james and mason this is timmy from pottsville pennsylvania in the united states of america i just finished up my second listen through the back catalog and i'm now working through the episodes of We Got This Covered covered. And as I was listening to those episodes, I had a question pop up in my head. How much do you guys think that clickbait has changed the movie industry, whether that be
Starting point is 01:09:57 taking out plots or, you know, not sharing as much details? I don't know. Whatever it is. know, not sharing as much details. Well, I don't know. I don't know. Whatever it is. Also, I am starting a new job soon as a janitor at a medical marijuana grow facility. And to celebrate, I watched Half Baked. So I wanted to suggest or recommend or whatever that you guys do a stoner movie episode for episode 420, whenever that is. Anyways, keep up all the good work. I love you guys. You're doing awesome stuff. Yeah, whenever that is. Anyways, keep up all the good work. I love you guys. You're doing awesome stuff. Yeah, grab that gem. Thank you very much, Timmy.
Starting point is 01:10:30 Normally I might talk during it, but I thought you couldn't hear it very well, so I didn't interject as much as I might normally. All right, all right, yeah. But you heard that okay? I did, yeah. So a couple of things there. First of all, thank you, Timmy. Thank you for what you do.
Starting point is 01:10:42 Thank you for listening twice and why. Thank you for signing up Big Sandwich and listening to twice and why. Thank you for signing our big sandwich and listening to more stuff. How do you think clickbait has changed the movie game? The movie, the game. Oh, okay. Loved it. That's a good question. I think it has...
Starting point is 01:10:58 Well, it's had directors come out and go, that's not true. Well, that's true. I think it maybe has changed people's expectations as far as spoilers go or as far as... For the worse? Yeah, maybe. People expect more things? Yeah, or as far as...
Starting point is 01:11:13 Yeah, or maybe. I think it's and it has, I think, affected people's expectations, you know, especially in terms of like we've talked about WandaVision, we've talked about Fast and the Winter Soldier. There's been so much, you know, every week, and we do it as well, but I think we manage our expectations. We don't say we heard this and this is happening.
Starting point is 01:11:32 No, that's true. We don't lie. Except for that Captain America thing. Yeah, that's true. But, yeah, I think there is a lot of that of, well, we've heard from a pretty good source that this person is going to appear and then it's kind of upset a lot of people. I wonder, I don't think it's probably not that damaging in the long term.
Starting point is 01:11:49 I think the vast, vast majority of people will simply watch a show. And most people don't clickbait stuff and read this stuff, really. I mean, for example, none of my friends know any of this stuff. No, but none of your friends know anything. That's true, actually. How many of you have met most of them? Yeah, no masters, all of them. Yeah, they're just your friends know anything. That's true actually. How many of you have met most of them? Yeah. That is true.
Starting point is 01:12:05 Dumbasses, all of them. Yeah, they're just like each one is dumber than the last. And it's a circle. Yeah. And the dumbest one is still somehow dumber than, smartest one is still dumber than the dumbest one. Every time you go around they get dumber as well. Isn't that right?
Starting point is 01:12:19 Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's crazy. It's probably because they're constantly tumbling down a hill, hitting their head, you know. Yeah, I think that's not incorrect. I think it's probably also changed like movie sets and like people getting covered up. But I think that's leaks more than the speculation stuff.
Starting point is 01:12:37 But it certainly got us that podcast. Sure did. And that's all that matters to me. That's all that matters. The other thing is congratulations on the new job and also stoner movies. I don't think I've – well, it's illegal here. A lot of people –
Starting point is 01:12:54 Stoner movies are illegal here, James. No, no, weed is illegal here. I mean I know a lot of people that smoke weed. It's not – I don't personally because I just don't. I'm not against it. I just don't. And I don't want to speak for you, but you smoke it heavily every day. Every day.
Starting point is 01:13:07 Yeah, that's right. You know that song that goes, smoke weed every day. Yeah. It's about me. Is it? Yeah, yeah. So is that telling you to smoke weed because you don't? Or you are smoking weed every day?
Starting point is 01:13:16 Yeah, that's right, yeah. So you just need the reminder. The next line is, please cut down a little bit. Your friends are worried about you. But, yeah, I guess we could. Yeah. You want to do that? I think we could do.
Starting point is 01:13:28 I have to wait till. I guess we could. You know what we could do is we could do. Did 420 pass? It did. Yes. Yeah, it's about 420. We could do.
Starting point is 01:13:34 We could evaluate famous stoner movies while completely not stoned at all. And then it'd just be like garbage. Yeah. Not interesting. I know that Auntie Donna get a lot of, you guys must have been so ripped when you came up with this or whatever, but they're like, no, we had to really think about this. That dumb thing, it's not dumb.
Starting point is 01:13:55 Like it's very well planned out actually. But yeah, no, I'd be happy to do that. Cool. Should we do another audio one? Let's do one more. I got this one. This one's unscreened and ready to be seen. Here we go.
Starting point is 01:14:08 Hey guys, Becker Bridge here from Toronto, Canada. With life on earth being a bag of hot garbage lately, what are some little things that never fail to get you to crack a smile?
Starting point is 01:14:15 For me, it's the simplest things that live forever on my head. We're going to let it play out. Okay. Bridge out. Oh, he's got it all. Oh, that was great.
Starting point is 01:14:42 Oh, my goodness. I don't mind being pranked when it's an excellent prank that doesn't hurt my feelings. That's right. We should find out who wrote the Becker theme. Yes. We grew it the entire time, though, didn't we? That's true, yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:54 Then. We could have stopped it. That's true. But I didn't. Here we go. Jason Miller plays the guitar. He's apparently the son of the musical director on the show. Oh.
Starting point is 01:15:08 The main theme of the Becca song, I don't think it's got a name. No. What is the main theme of a song called? No, that's a different thing. Becca intro theme, song by Larry Palmer Band. There you go. Maybe that's Spotify. Maybe it's a cover.
Starting point is 01:15:22 Could be a cover. Let's click it. Here we go. It seems to be. It's right from the horse Maybe that's Spotify. Maybe it's a cover. Could be a cover. Let's click it. Here we go. It seems to be. Right from the horse's mouth of Spotify. Okay, right. There we go. Is that a cover?
Starting point is 01:15:34 No, that's the original, it seems. It's, yeah, this is from Bang, top TV theme tune hits, volume three, comedy. There you go. Love it. Good for you, the Larry Palmer band. The guy's name is Jason Miller, though, the guy who plays it on the guitar. All right, great. There you go. Love it. Good for you, the Larry Palmer band. The guy's name is Jason Miller, though, the guy who plays it on the guitar. All right, great. There you go.
Starting point is 01:15:48 Cool. Great stuff. Yeah. I've got one here I've got to read. Do you want to do one that you can read? You can go for it. I've got one after. From Marcos.
Starting point is 01:15:56 Go on. Or Marcos, like the show. Do you mean Narcos? I'm thinking of Narcos. You're thinking of Narcos, yeah. You're always bloody thinking of Narcos because you're always bloody. 420 every day, baby. That's right.
Starting point is 01:16:13 Hashtag really plan a pod. It's me and my brother arguing on whether. I think if the police busted in and you were like, 420 every day, buddy, I think they would just leave. Look at this nerd. They'd leave. Argue on whether Batman v Superman was a great movie or not? We both came to the conclusion that Jesse Eisenberg was an odd casting
Starting point is 01:16:29 for Lex Luthor. This has got me thinking on what is some of your favourite weird casting choices in comic book movies. I think the classic one is like Ledger, obviously. Yeah. Seems fine now, but it was odd at the time. Madness at the time. Keaton, obviously, for Batman.
Starting point is 01:16:41 Yep. What about Arnold? Still odd now. Yeah. Agreed. Arnold, Mr. Freeze. I like. Yes. Still odd now. Yeah, agreed. Arnold, Mr Freeze. I like. Yes.
Starting point is 01:16:47 Very weird choice. Very much so. I mean, he's not even bald. Well, he is in that. Yeah, but I mean, I'm saying like that you wouldn't look at him and go, make him bald, white pancake makeup, put him in a suit, glowing blue gun. Mr Freeze, absolutely.
Starting point is 01:17:02 I love how the way you described that, you're doing it like a Tim Gunn kind of evaluation. You were like moving your hand the way a Tim Gunn would. Fabulous. Here's a good one, I think. I think Zachary Quinto in Shazam was an unexpected choice for me. Do you mean Zachary Levi? Yes, I said Quinto but I meant Levi.
Starting point is 01:17:20 Very good. Hugh Jackman was a very odd choice for Wolverine at the time. Because, yeah, I mean. Unknown, real skinny, had a perm because he was doing Oklahoma. Oh, that's right. The musical. Because the modern, like a lot of, the modern depiction of Wolverine in the comic book sort of goes back and forth between Hugh Jackman
Starting point is 01:17:38 looking guy and like five foot three, real stocky guy, which is how he's like depicted in the comic books. And he had been since his inception. Yes. And then they went with very tall. Jackman guy. Jackman guy. That's right.
Starting point is 01:17:55 So, yeah, it would have been like the casting that was picked on the table before that was just a lot of like. It was supposed to be Russell Crowe. Yeah. And Doug Gray Scott. That's right. Which, to be fair, he's very Hugh Jackman-esque in a way, isn't he? That's true, yeah. The last one I've got here is Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon.
Starting point is 01:18:10 Oh, yeah, definitely. If I didn't know that was Bradley Cooper, I wouldn't have picked it. But that's a very odd choice. But I like it. Any others? No. I made a list. Did you?
Starting point is 01:18:20 That's what I read about. Oh, nice. A real list. That was it. What have you got, this is from derrick uh we mentioned i think an episode ago just so you know i've spilled water all down my pants but it's water i didn't piss my pants huh i mean i'm drunk it's true and we have been recording for one hour and 20 minutes and you've off they call you mr one hour 19 minute bladder it's true
Starting point is 01:18:41 so i mean i pissed my pants the time's a bit sus, but all right. Yeah. Cool, cool. Okay, this is from Derek. Because in previous episodes we talked about people, if you're a valet, people throw on your keys. Oh, yeah. People throw the keys.
Starting point is 01:18:54 So he says, I worked as a valet driver at a hospital before and throwing their keys is very movie magic and only happened once. I was doing the late shift at an ER, 6pm to 3am and a frantic husband whose wife was about to give birth rolled up. He yelled, my wife's in labour so I brought his wife a wheelchair where he then threw me the keys as he ran around from the driver's side so he could quickly take his wife into the hospital.
Starting point is 01:19:16 Nice. Protocol for such emergencies is to write a description of the person on the ticket and their name if possible, get a $100 tip and a cigar later. Whoa! That's a good one. That's a good story. That's a good fun story. So thanks for the awesome podcast, guys. Animating while listening to you all every week has become a routine now,
Starting point is 01:19:30 so it does a bit of animation. Derek Canyon, I wonder if he's on YouTube or something. Or something. We did have a few other people mention. Just people being dicks? Yeah, people being dicks. And they Ferris-billed their car. You drive it off a multi-story
Starting point is 01:19:45 car park is what you do. You drive it off and you crash it and it explodes like a park or something. And you run away. You run away. You walk away dramatically as the car explodes. And you get $100. You get $100. They're like, I've never seen such a good explosion. What about this one? We got this from
Starting point is 01:20:03 CappyBarra14, hashtag weeklyplanetpod. Have you guys ever read the comic series Paper Girls? I'm halfway through it now and I'm loving it, mates. The art is superb. Anyway, I hope you guys check it out someday. Keep up the awesome work and smash that serum. I have not. I have not read Paper Girls.
Starting point is 01:20:17 I haven't either. I'm going to put it on my – I'm going to get it right now. It's going to be a TV show at some point, I think it is. It's going to be. Maybe I've got – Oh, it's a Brian K. Vaughan as well. Okay, that's good. All right. I'm going to get it right now. It's going to be a TV show at some point. I think it is going to be. Oh, it's a Brian K. Vaughan as well. Okay, that's good. All right.
Starting point is 01:20:27 I'm going to check. Mystery science fiction comic book series written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Cliff Chang. All right, let's check it out. It's going to add it to my list right now. Get it in my comicsology app. There you go. It's good to get recommendations.
Starting point is 01:20:40 And thank you. It follows the story of four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls while out delivering papers on the morning after Halloween. The town is struck by an invasion from a mysterious force from the future. Oh, my God. There's like six volumes of this shit. That's cool. All right, cool.
Starting point is 01:20:54 Wow. Good. All right. Nice. Is that the show? Is that the show? That's the show, mate. That's good to get the show.
Starting point is 01:21:00 It's fine. It's good to get one in the can. I mean, you didn't, though, because you pissed yourself. I meant the show. Oh, okay, sure, sure, sure. Yeah, that. Let me follow up by saying it's also good to piss myself. It would be good, wouldn't it?
Starting point is 01:21:14 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I think we're the age where it wouldn't be mortifying as much. Ah, probably. Would it? It's not like school, you know what I mean? I never pissed my pants at school. That's my claim to fame. What's yours what I mean never pissed my pants at school that's my claim to fame what's yours
Starting point is 01:21:26 I've never pissed your pants at school that's yet yeah that's true alright sorry keep going folks thank you so much
Starting point is 01:21:33 for listening to the podcast we very much appreciate it was this a good one I don't know I think it was a very good one I had a grand time James that doesn't necessarily denote quality
Starting point is 01:21:41 but I enjoyed myself as long as you're having a good time I think that's the most important thing yeah and I think that's what the creators of Thunder Force said enjoyed myself. As long as you're having a good time. I think that's the most important thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I think that's what the creators of Thunder Force said. They were like, as long as we're having a good grand time.
Starting point is 01:21:51 And we're not. Why are we doing this? We hate ourselves. Oh, my God. Folks, thank you for listening to the show and subscribing to the show and telling a friend about the show. How many friends are you telling about the show? So they listen to the show and subscribing to the show and telling a friend about the show. How many friends are you telling about the show? About the show.
Starting point is 01:22:07 So they listen to the show and they're like, hey, I thought this was going to be a different kind of show, but I'm listening and I enjoyed it anyway, so thank you for your lies. Thank you for leaving a nice review, James. You go on. You know I do, Mason. This one says, they completely ruined my childhood.
Starting point is 01:22:21 It's from King Clovis. Go on. You know I've been waiting 40 years for Clint Eastwood to stop making movies about a retired astronaut getting a second chance or a retired florist becoming a drug mule and get back to making movies about a retired bare-knuckle brawler getting up to delightful hijinks with his orangutan buddy. But now I know it will never happen.
Starting point is 01:22:38 These guys have ruined the Any Which Way franchise for me. It's from King Clovis, 2004. Because they killed that chip. They killed that chip. And follow-up, unrelated review, but also five stars and related. This is from Weekly Planet Reviewer. James and Mason beat me with an axe handle. They come stealing a donut and beat me for 20 minutes with an axe handle.
Starting point is 01:22:59 I don't feel so good. So, yeah, for those people who don't know, the orangutan. That's how they kill the orangutan. From Any Which Way. It's a really sad story. Yeah. And now it's solidified. But it's had a positive outcome. It's bringing
Starting point is 01:23:13 listeners together. I think in a way it's all been worth it. Because it got us two nice reviews for our podcast. I agree. This innocent animal. Also, all the cameras we have are bad. Oh, no, I got some good ones. Yeah, we bought them and then we haven't really used them.
