If we can have a US opening of 20 to 25 million dollars, which is lower than Morbius's 39 million dollar opening and maybe even Madam Web's, which is coming in at 26 million dollars. Whoa. I'm just looking at the budget for this and see how I reckon it's probably 80 to 90 million. It's having a look. I mean, they had to put that rhino in but 130 million dollars. Oh, this is fucked This is bad for them. They're not gonna make anybody on this and this is you know

Optimistically, the US opening for that is about $30 million, but I would imagine that is budgeted significantly less. If I had to put my money on it, I would say it would probably...

I don't know whether it would do better, but it would... financially, it would recoup more of its losses. Sure. But anyway, these kids are going to school and then they've got to do tests that are going to determine the future of their lives and everything's stressful. But they're just some little kids, but then they find a spaceship. Them and two other kids. It's four kids. Four kids. Four kids and they get in the spaceship and it takes off. And it's the 80s.

And it's the 80s everywhere. It's the 80s. And it's the 80s everywhere. It's the 80s. This was created by John Watts who is the director of this Spider-Man homecoming trilogy. And Wolfs. And Wolfs and also yeah and also Christopher Ford who was the writer on Homecoming and also have you ever seen the movie called The Clovitch Killer? No but you've mentioned it. Yeah it's a guy who is a kid who thinks his dad might be this like famous serial killer. It's good it's well worth checking out. Some have done Star Wars before. John Watts, of course. David Lowry, who did the Green Knight direct episode of this. The Daniels who did everything ever all at once to a couple episodes. Bryce Dallas Howard, who's done some of the best Star Wars episodes, also is directing on this. So there's some really good names. I very much enjoyed this. So there's some really good names. I thought it was really delightful and I will show at least my son this, which of all the other Star Wars TV stuff I'm like, I could probably show him the Mandalorian, but I don't. I would be interested in sitting down with him to watch this. Well I think this, you know, you take away all the Star Wars trappings and it is very similar to the Goonies or what have you, where it's like, you know, kids and they've got regular kid problems and how do you get, you know, and wouldn't it be amazing if all your problems were swept away because you jumped onto an adventure and you did that, you know. And presumably when they get back, the parents aren't going to be, the parents are going

to be like, oh, it's just so great for you to be back. And they're not going to be like, okay, but have you done your homework? Have you? Have you? Have you grounded? Yeah. I mean, depending on the next, I wonder if they are going to do another season of this because kids age out of things. Not the elephant CGI person, but it's true.

Yeah. I don't know. It depends where I guess where this kind of ends up. But I think it is really difficult to capture like that feel of like the eighties. I think it's like there's been attempts at it. Like, I think Stranger Things did it, especially in the earlier seasons. Then there was Super 8 and I didn't think that quite did that. But there is an energy.

It's not just the look. It's a few things combined. And the suburb settings and Etch A Sketch is the way they bounce off each other. And a viewmaster. The kid's got a big viewmaster situation. Because he dreams of being a Jedi. That's what he wants to do. He doesn't want to get into, because they're doing the test that's like the kind of thing of like, well, what role will you have in the future? Is it data

analysis or what have you? But he just wants to be a Jedi. Because he's heard all the stories of the Jedi and he and his friend do fake lightsaber battles in the street and stuff like that exactly cool kids Yeah, and you think it's kind of a normal planet, but is it oh, yeah, about that. It's a bit of spot. Um, yeah Oh It's just some things we could talk about which aren't spoiler related, but Jaleel white is in this Oh, yeah, very cool. Yeah, I was Kerry Condon. It's Kerry condon. She's in the banshees of it. Oh, yeah She's great big banshees of initially. Oh yeah, she's great. Big fan. Like her a lot. The droid in this is great. So on the ship that they find, there's an old droid on there. He kind of looks like a skeleton

actually. He's SM-33. He's voiced by Nick Frost from Shaun of the Dead. He has an incredible battle scene. There's a moment where he beats up a bunch of pirates. He's got those hotplate gauntlets, which I really enjoyed. and there's of course, Jude Law. I presume some kind of space pirate. Because there's an opening sequence in this where some space pirates hijacking a vessel. And it seems as if even though he's wearing a mask. That's him. That's probably Jude Law. And there's a werewolf guys in it that's right Star Wars werewolf guy yeah I like that I think that's such a good kind of scary 80s kind of character monster yeah space werewolf yeah or just a wolf man yeah he's in um

I think he's in I don't know if it's that one in particular but there's one in the first Star Wars in the bar well I was gonna say he said he certainly looks like a Mos Eisley bar patron. Yeah. There's also, you know, that little gremlin thing that when they park their ship, I think that is from the Caravan of Garbage Ewok movies. I'm pretty sure. You mean Caravan of Courage.

Caravan of Courage, sorry. Yeah, I did mean that. But yeah. Yeah, great. Yeah. There's a lot of little nods like this to stuff that they don't really refer to. There's a direct reference to the Star Wars holiday special in this. There is, yeah.

There's a moment where they're watching that terrible hologram. I wonder if that's the same footage or if it's... Recreative. Recreative. Because, I mean, it might be the same footage because any footage you can get of that is all unofficial. So they would have the actual film of it. That's true, yeah.

So it's possibly, and every now and then they'll release like a snippet of the actual quality of it. Yeah. Which you can see. But yeah. I think the cast is great. I think they mesh really well. Again, there's that fun energy kind of to it. There was that kind of, you know, that hope not...

There's a hopefulness, but also like a trapped kind of desperation to like being bored in the suburbs and you're set in a certain, you know, path that you do, you do, you want it, you dream of like a greater adventure. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. So we got, we got two pairs of kids. So it's Wim, played by Ravi Cabot Conyers. He's the human boy. Then his friend is Neil, voiced by Robert Robert Timothy Smith and then there's two girls so Ryan Keir Armstrong is Fern and she's like a Like a like a like a Han Solo. Well, yeah, she's sort of she's sort of rebelling again her mother is her mother is Kerry Condon. Yeah, so she's who's a kind of a like a

Important official of some sort. Yes, so she's rebelling against her mom and she's like, you know, I hate Star Wars. Oh, yeah. She's riding speeder bikes and all that sort of stuff. And then she's got her friend is Kiriana Kratta, who's KB, who's also a human girl. And she's got some low-bot powers. She's got low-bot powers. She seems to wear, she wears like a visor, but she's sort of, it feels like that character is sort of very unconfident in her life. And so she, there's a moment where she doesn't wear it around her friend but when she sees anybody else she puts the visor down. Yeah. To seem cooler than she is I think. Yeah.

Which I thought was an interesting touch. Yeah absolutely. I want to I don't know whether they'll talk about it because you know people in Star Wars have you know various attachments and things that drilled into their brains. I wonder whether it's like a medical condition thing or is it just like, is it like just a cool pair of sunglasses that she wears? Maybe it's just like a cool pair of slacks that you wear and signature slacks. I like the bikes in this. I like bikes, Mason.

Yeah, the kids have the junior putt-putt versions of a speeder bike. Just a teeny,teeny one that... I mean, you don't pedal, but how does hovering work? Because even when the bike stops, you've got to lift it over stuff. I mean, that's how they all work in this maneuver. And they've always worked. Well, you've got to lift it over so you don't crack the mirrors. I guess so.

Yeah. Should we do a little bit of spoilers? Let's do a little bit of spoilers. I think it's thus far best series ever. I really like it. I, again, I got the screen as for it and I went, now it gets well when it comes out. And now I am. And I am.

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. I guess the only real spoiler in this that's significant is it seems as if, because there's this lost planet in the galaxy, a treasure planet if you will. Well, they've come from the planet of at, what is it? At Adam. At Adam, which they, you know, it's their whole world. Not just that the planet is all they know, the suburbs is all these kids know.

And then they get in the spaceship, they discover this spaceship that has been buried. Wynn thinks it's an old Jedi temple, but it turns out it's a buried spaceship. They've started up, it immediately hyperspaces out of their star system. But you could just turn it around. Exactly, but they can't. Why not? I don't know. Because their planet's hidden from everybody. Yes. And so they discovered that their planet is not just a boring suburb. It is a treasure planet. I think this is, yeah, it's treasure planet or what's it called?

Treasure Island as well. Jude Law's character, I feel is, that's Long John Silver, right? Yeah, okay, sure. I think that's the direction. Like you see, he's a guy and he's like, I'll help you out, let's do our adventure together. But you know, he's also a bad guy, but also heart of gold, et cetera. That's what I think it's going to end up being. But I know I love that reveal when they get to that pirate spaceport or whatever and they mention

where they're from and very quickly it's like you realize that, oh, people don't, that's not a known thing. Like that's, yeah, that's- Well, it's a mythical place. It's a mythical place that they're apparently from. And you also, you see when you're on the planet, you see it does have some kind of shield protection thing when you look up, presumably some kind of cloaking or something. And the robot doesn't have it in its data bank or whatever.

So I don't know. Very interesting stuff. Now what's the deal with Jude Law's character? Because we do see him levitate a key. Yeah. Do you think it's fake? I don't know. Because that's the thing.

You would assume so. Yeah. You know which is misfit team. Well that that also was like this is the crew and it's like it's this guy and this woman and this. I'm like yeah no I fucking seen because I'm watching that interview we talked about it was yeah he doesn't want to see the origin of Batman and Superman

again and they probably won't show them in his universe because it's like I've seen that a million times. It's like I agree with you but I feel like I've also seen this is the team and this person and this person this person. It's in video games now and everything else. Speaking of James Gunn, as we're going to, he's also in the credits. Yes, he is. There's an animated version of him. He's also in, was he in Harley Quinn? Do you think he's being set up as like a Stan Lee style figure? Maybe. Because I mean that worked for Stan Lee. Worked for Stan Lee. For a bunch of years.

And he's still alive. He is, it's true in our hearts. Using CGI and stuff. Yeah, that's true. An AI and replacement, etc. But. Which I think would work for people who are fans of James Gunn and would annoy people who are not fans of James Gunn.

That's very true. Do you see, I very, because I sort of expected him to be like Machine Gunn to death in the opening sequence in the titles. But then he'd be canonically dead. Yeah, and people would be like good. Or not really. People would be like that. People would be making gifs of it. Yes.

Yeah. I think, though, this got stronger. I think so, too. I think the second episode was much more interesting. I think also in the first episode, some of the line reads are kind of weird. OK, right. I can't think of any specific examples, but there's a couple of lines where the emphasis is on the wrong word.

Yeah. Or like somebody mispronounces a word or something like that. And I'm like, did you not do a bunch of takes of this? I didn't know. I just said, let's go. Yeah. I just, yeah, I just felt initially it was like, no, it's not, there's nothing here that like the jokes are kind of Harley Quinn-esque sort of, I mean, that's kind of a wackier kind of world and it's more kind of not making fun of, maybe. Sometimes it is making fun of like various DC characters. So it does set itself apart from it, especially kind of as it goes on.

But I think as it's revealed that like the main character of this is probably the bride. Yeah, we do get that's interesting. Yeah, we do in the second episode we do unless of course we do and I think we may be doing each episode we get a backstory. Oh yeah. So the second episode we get a backstory. Oh yeah. So the second episode, we get a backstory of the bride. So you know, obviously in the original Frankenstein story, she doesn't get, yeah, she doesn't, she doesn't get built.

But in the, in this, she, she is, she is fully assembled as means to have a, you know, a wife for Frankenstein, but she doesn't want to do, she gets, she gets her own kind of sentience and her own mind and priorities and she doesn't want to do that. So she goes on the run and then there's a kind of a montage sequence of her being pursued by Frankenstein over a span of 200 years. Over hilarious pop cultural events. That's right. That's right. Snap bands. Hyper color. Austin Powers. That's right. Yes. All those kinds of things. The three eras.

Yeah. Also it's a very horny show. It those kinds of things. The Three Eras. Yeah. Also, it's a very horny show. It is horny, isn't it? If this is the... I don't think it's... I don't think this is indicative of everything. I think Superman is going to be very earnest. Yeah. I know. I think he's even mentioned that. I think this is just a bunch of horny people running around. Yeah. Having the horniest time. They are. And there's some crook horny stuff in this as well. That's right involving monsters, etc Yeah, but yeah, I'll tell you what the animations very good. It is very good. Yes. I would say it is Superior to say invincible definitely except for the except for the promo thing the invincible stuff

That is better inexplicably because they're more time to work on it. Yeah, that way. Yeah Yeah, I mean for me the Invincible is not the animation. Like I enjoy it despite all of that. But yeah, but this is definitely animated. There's a fight sequence between Flag and Dr. Phosphorus, which I think looks particularly good. That's an incredible fight sequence. Yeah. Because Dr. Phosphorus has the, he's got the continuous fire effect on him. Yeah. It's sort of like the Kirby crackle effect. Yeah. And that's constantly going and it's very, the animation during the fight is very him. It's sort of like the Kirby crackle effect and that's constantly

I think it kind of settles in and the characters kind of, when you learn more about them, I think Alan Tudyk is Dr. Phosphorus. Phosphorus has some really good jokes. He's also, if we can, I guess this is guess this isn't a spoiler because at the end of this first episode or second episode they do Looking Ahead, the season of Creature Commandoes.

Alan Tudyk is also going to voice Clayface again, like he did in Harley Quinn. Yeah. But it's a different version. Yeah, it's not the, whatever that one. It's not the kind of the theatrical version. Yeah, it's not the it's not the whatever that what the kind of the theatrical theatrical version Yes, that's I like that a lot. Um, apparently also to to look ahead episode James Gunn said episode 4 and 7 are his favorites I don't know what 7 is but episode 4 deals with Weasel's origin Okay, cuz he story in the Suicide Squad is that he killed 27 children or something like that

We're gonna reveal it was something. Probably somebody else. Yeah. But I think that's interesting. Because again, in the context of this show, we've never seen him kill anybody. No. It doesn't really do anything. No. Yeah.

So I think the reveal is probably going to be that he's a pretty harmless, doofus character. Maybe he'll have his moment. I think you'll probably kill a bunch of people. We also see, yeah, there's also a very good action sequence between the bride of Frankenstein. I was going to say, I really like that. So Cersei's a Themyscarian. Is that right?

No. Amazonian. Am I getting that wrong? What am I doing? I don't know. I mean, I don't know if she, like in the comic books. I don't think she's Amazonian This she definitely is or says that she is right. Uh-huh. Yeah She is Amazonian in the in the in the TV series. Okay, there you go, but she's a sorceress

Yeah, and I and she fights The bride and what I really liked about that is is they have a completely different power set It's basically a science based monster who's super strong versus a witch. And I think that's more interesting than just two people blasting each other with electricity or whatever. Yeah, for sure. Because they're both, you know, using their own skills and craft, which they've used over the centuries because they're both very old. Which isn't to say either of them isn't, you know, going to kick the other one in the crotch,

which they don't. No, absolutely. There's that element as well. But no, I really enjoyed that. And I think it's interesting what this also says about kind of the larger DC universe. In that look ahead, you also see Superman at one point. Just very briefly, he's like strung up. It's like a potential future, I guess, of this universe.

But if there's a Themyscira or there's Amazonians, no one's like, oh, like Wonder Woman. Like there's no mention of that. Right, okay. I think Superman is going to be in it, like maybe as an actual character, character, I think. But like there's no mention of Batman. So it's kind of, it gives some clues

about what's kind of going on, but not entirely. And also apparently James Gunn has said the Justice League doesn't exist yet. So we'll get that down the line. Yes. In a Justice League movie, I assume. Yeah. But again, like we said, there are some nods to at least the Suicide Squad, the starfish incident from that movie, which suggests maybe that Bloodsport did shot the David Curran sweat version of Superman. Maybe he did. Maybe he did. Yeah, maybe it did Yeah, cuz he couldn't have shot the bloody Henry Keller version cuz he's too cool. He's too cool. Mm-hmm bounce right off him

I watched two episodes each of two espionage tv shows that are both new. The Jackal was one of them. The Jackal was not one of them. So there's three out. I've watched most of the Jackal. I like the Jackal. It's great. I'll do another time. Go on. I'm not finished yet. So I watched a couple of things which I'm sure most people don't are unaware that exist. So I watched two episodes of The Agency, which is an American show. And so this is a this is a series.

It's on your Tom Paramount Plus in Australia. And I think it's on maybe Showtime in the US. It's produced by George Clooney. Well, it stars Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner Smith and Richard Gere, what among other people? What right and it's about Michael Fassbender and he's been in deep cover for six years away from his family And now he's back in the US and all sorts of you have an American accent Ish yeah, yeah, that's fast band anyway

Everything's bloody popping off and it's a huge all-star cast and nobody seems to know it exists, which is fascinating. And it's good? It is good. Okay. Yeah, it's good. It's pretty thrilling. Okay. And fun.

Is it two? Is it like there's only been two out? There's only been two out currently, yes. Well, I might wait till they release all 100 episodes. Okay, terrific. They did two that, yep. Yeah. So that's pretty good.

Yeah, okay. What's the other espionage spy thing that you watch there's also on Netflix called black doves Did you see that which one's that one? This one's it's here and nightly. Oh, okay. That's that one So that one's fun as well. And that is so I kind of feel like this one unless it might be based on a graphic novel or something like that, but I do not care to look it up, but it's a little bit Black Widow based on the name only. So it's about Keira Knightley is the wife of a politician. But then it turns out that she has also been in deep cover for years.

She was recruited into a kind of a private espionage kind of company and brought in to steal, you know, find any way to steal some secrets. And this was her first mission and she ends up marrying the guy. Yeah, right. Okay. And Ben Wishaw, does he know? No, he doesn't.

Yeah, that's right. But now things are popping off. Yeah, it sounds like it. And Ben Wishaw, who of course people would know is Q from the James Bond, the most recent James Bond movies and of course, The Voice of Paddington. He's playing like a remorseless, relentless killer. So sort of against type, but that's a lot. I would say of the two, Black Doves is more fun. They're both kind of, I mean, they're both a little bit grim, but I see there's a lot of fun banter between Keira Knightley and Ben Wishore.

Good reviews on this Black Dove show. Oh yeah. It's fun I think. Yeah. You know. I'm going to check this one out first I think. Okay. Oh Tracey Oldman's in it.

That's a bloody Bureau of Legends right here. It's true. There's a show, it's on Hulu in the US, but I think on Disney Plus Star, wherever you are. It's called English Teacher. It's created by Brian Jordan Alvarez and he's about it. It's a high school English teacher. Have you not mentioned this before? No, I might have mentioned it to you specifically, but I don't think I mentioned it. Or maybe I mentioned it

briefly. Okay. But I like him a lot. So he plays a gay English teacher in, is it Texas he's in? I can't remember. Something like that. Is it the United States of America? It's the United States of America. And so it is this kind of thing of like, it's not one of those things where like, oh, the students are so stupid and woke or whatever and the teachers or whatever. It's like everybody's kind of trying their best and nobody's right or nobody's wrong or some people are right and wrong. You know, it's like this different perspective. It's like life.

It is like life. I see all sides just like this show. It's also very funny. I know people really like Abbott Elementary and I like Abbott Elementary. I think this is much better. The superior show. Yes. Interact.

I mean, they're both about high schools except no, Abbott Elementary is elementary. It's a real the agency black doves kind of situation. It is. Isn't it? Yeah. Again, not to throw shade against Abbott Elementary, but I just really enjoy this. I enjoy the cast of characters. It's got that guy from Bloody Whatever in it, you know? Sure. Just shoot me. David Spade. The bald photographer guy.

Oh, Enrico Sanjurio. It's got him. It's just a lot of fun. And I really like, I've been watching Brian Jordan Alvarez's stuff on like YouTube and whatever for years. He's done some really funny skits over the years. He's that guy, and if you remember, he does an incredible Malburnian accent. Yeah. He's lifting heaps of weights, mate. Yeah, that's right. I've been lifting heaps, mate. Yeah, I know that guy.

So just very charming and very fun and very silly, but you know, it's got its heartfelt moments and all of that. I just, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it's great. And, you know, I used to be a teacher. I don't know if you know that. I know that for me. I was like, this is time for me. You got chased out of town. I got chased out of town. I karate kicks too many other teachers. So true. I was doing it for the kids, though. You're doing it for

charity. No, it was like one of those Duncan booths. You got to karate chop. That's right. Yeah. I also watched the movie Renfield for some reason. I know why I did because... Do you wish it was great, but it's not great? Yeah, that's it. Yeah. That's how I felt about it. It's like it's, you know, I think it has some fun elements to it.

At the end it's like, you know, developed by Robert Kirkman. I'm like, yeah, I get it. Okay. Yeah. I watched it because Nosferatu is coming out and Nicholas Alters is in that as well. And I think I'm like, well, I should watch the other one as well. And again, it is mostly fun. He's more of a Jonathan Harker character.

Harker? Yes, he's Nosferatu. Nicholas Cage is Dracula. He is doing very well as Dracula in that. I just wish it was better. Yeah. I mean, it's so lightweight in the sense you get Ben Schwartz as a, you know, lovable Ben Schwartz as a, like a supposed to be a hardcore gangster type, you know, tattooed neck and so on and so forth.

But I've been watching a bunch of that I saw the Aaron Taylor Johnson Aaron Taylor Johnson episode that was watching. Yeah, I think so

the world. They get more comfortable because they have softening up over time. But yeah, I sit lengthwise and I watch. I also have regular couch that I, you know what, sometimes I'll lean in, but a lot of that time, especially towards the end, I'm leaning. I'm lying. The good thing about my couch is that it faces, like I'm not lying sideways looking at the movie. I'm lying straight ahead sort of and looking off to the side a little bit.

I know this. So yeah, we've come up before and focused on a black family that specialise in demon hunting. The demons are white people who have been consumed by hate and racism. We find out there is more than just those feelings that can turn someone, which I won't spoil. It's fantastic. That was going to be adapted into a movie by Ryan Coogler.

But now he's doing that other movie. That vampire something. The Sinner, I think it's called. Which is the other vampire. So I don't know what happened there. I don't know. Yeah. And I bloody know.
