My name is James, also known as Mr. Sun and with me as always for the most festive time
of the year.
And I'm not just talking about Sining Mason.
Hey.
Hey.
What's going on?
Doing a podcast.
I know.
I love doing a podcast. Yeah, me too.
Do you think it's going to be a good episode week looking at all the big news we've got
coming up?
I think so.
Yeah, man.
Do you want me to tell you what's going on?
Yes.
Okay, this is the news we're going to cover.
For purposes of continuing the podcast, I think you should probably tell me, and by
extension the listeners, what we're going to talk about.
I can do that.
Then we can talk about it.
So we're going to get some craven marketing news and how they're getting ahead of it
Mmm, you know in a way a lot of marketing is quite a craven isn't it for our Mason?
That's a really cutting insight into the industry and also I did a marketing degree, you know that you know
That's not cool to say that to me
It's one of my own people you're talking about me
I also got some updates on that Gollum movie that they're probably making and who's going to be in it? Probably Gollum.
Yeah, and Aragorn maybe.
Huh.
Yeah.
Also, ooh.
Buddy, buddy movie?
A buddy, buddy movie?
Yeah.
Aragorn and Gollum?
Yeah, that's right.
Best friends?
Best friends and sometimes they kiss.
We've got a spin-off news as well, more spin-off news, Mason.
We've got James Gunn went on a podcast and just talked a bunch of stuff about the DCU,
including updates on Booster Gold, bunch of stuff about the DCU including
Updates on booster gold putting the Batman in the DCU
Green Lantern and what's gonna happen with Watchmen potentially? I heard he took a bunch of cheap shots at Zack Snyder. Yeah good
I don't think he did but we're bringing it. Oh is that when people asked him if he was Zack Snyder?
I did watch the interview. Okay. There was a moment where someone was like where someone came up to him and said he's Zack Snyder
It's like I'm not interesting, which he isn't what a classic shot said he's Zack Snyder and he's like, I'm not. Interesting. Which he isn't.
What a classic shot crossed about as Zack Snyder.
Exactly.
Yeah, he actually isn't Zack Snyder.
Actually, he isn't.
He isn't.
Also, we've got news on Ahsoka Season 2, that Star Wars show that we didn't like that much.
So it's back.
Maybe.
Wow.
And then we're going to talk, speaking of Star Wars, the first couple episodes of both
the Skellington crew and the first entry in the DCU officially, Creature Commandos.
That's right.
So that's pretty good stuff, Mason.
Before we do that though, I just want to thank everybody who has tagged us in their Spotify
raps on various platforms of social media, etc.
Who's the biggest winner is the question.
Who is?
I don't know, the guy who listened to the most?
Oh yeah, okay, yeah.
Or us, because we got a lot of listeners.
Yeah, yeah, listeners, that's good.
We were actually asked by Spotify and we considered it where you can make an exclusive video where
if you're the number one, then they shoot that video out to their phone.
Oh yeah.
And we were gonna do it.
And then I was like, you know what?
Maybe if they paid us literally any fucking money.
Oh, yeah.
Be on the platform.
Literally anything, any amount of money, a dollar, you know.
Yeah, that'd be worth it.
Maybe I'll do some work for you.
Yeah.
About that in addition to the work I'm already doing.
Don't you think?
I think for a dollar we could go out in the backyard and make a video on our phone and go,
wait, yeah, well, hey, but thank you to people for listening like that. Don't get think? I think for a dollar we could go out in the backyard and make a video on our phone and go, whee.
Yeah, well hey, but thank you to people for listening.
Like that, don't get a twisted Mason.
This is not a shot in anybody listening to us.
And also there were other-
Unless we have listeners who work at Spotify.
Yeah, in which case, fuck you.
Right?
Get us some goddamn money.
Right?
You know?
Even a dollar, that dollar we demanded.
You deal with our-
You know what?
Price has gone up, two dollars.
Two dollars.
Send us two dollars.
We want a dollar each. That's right
It's not even like they're doing exclusive deals anymore. You know what I mean? Like we just just give us some money
Give us some goddamn money run an ads on it and shit as well
It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't running their own ads on it as well. Yeah, god damn it. Yeah, Joe Rogan got all our money
It's not a son of a bitch
Anyways, uh, what kind of ads are you getting? I don't listen
to Spotify. To my own podcast. Oh yeah, when I listen to podcasts sometimes it's like invest
in zinc. Oh. Okay, maybe I will. Invest in, is it in like zinc tablets that you take and
then you feel better? No, like zinc. Oh, just zinc. The mining of zinc. And then it's like
buy Mercedes Benz.
I guess I will with my zinc money.
How long does that zinc money take to clear though?
I don't know.
Yeah, I don't know either.
Well, I guess you'll find out.
That's true.
So there's time codes below if you're doing a skip to anything in particular.
But we're going to start with this.
Craven the Animal Man is coming out in cinemas this week, which we're all very excited for.
It's tracking bad. If we
can have a US opening of 20 to 25 million dollars, which is lower than Morbius's 39
million dollar opening and maybe even Madam Web's, which is coming in at 26 million dollars.
Whoa. I'm just looking at the budget for this and see how I reckon it's probably 80 to 90
million. It's having a look. I mean, they had to put that rhino in but 130 million dollars. Oh, this is fucked
This is bad for them. They're not gonna make anybody on this and this is you know
They've already they've already been lambasted by Disney Marvel who've said you've got to stop spending
Yeah, so little money on these you've got to stop spending the absolute minimum because you would ideally you'd make a good movie for us
Yeah, and they're like, alright
I guess we will spend a hundred and thirty million dollars and that's and they've been burned and people are saying
Well, this is the rumor that it is the best of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel movies movies
Well, that's a shame. It's a shame. They've saved the best for last that isn't it?
Also, what does that even look like because there's none of I wouldn't I couldn't even tell you which is the best one
Wow, the first venom maybe but is's none of, I couldn't even tell you which is the best one. Wow.
The first Venom maybe, but is it?
Yeah, I don't know.
Exactly.
But I mean, you know, there's no way to know,
except of course they've released eight minutes.
Yeah.
The first eight minutes, not eight random minutes.
No, I didn't watch it.
No, it isn't right.
Because I would rather experience that in cinemas.
Me too.
And yeah, I don't want to be spoiled.
Did you watch it?
I did not watch it, no.
Oh, okay.
So, I don't know, this is probably gonna bomb, it? I did not watch it. Okay. So I don't know.
This is probably going to bomb, but then it could gain a bit of traction if it stays in
over the Christmas holidays.
This would suggest though that the movie sort of starts with a bang because it's not just
going to be eight minutes of talking.
Of Craven trying to put his vest on.
Exactly.
That's right.
Calling it his butler.
Yeah.
God.
So yeah, well to combat that though, because there's two big movies coming out this week
sort of, is Lord of the Rings, The War of the Rohirrim, which is an anime set in the
Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson Universe 200 or so years before.
Optimistically, the US opening for that is about $30 million, but I would imagine that
is budgeted significantly less.
If I had to put my money on it, I would say it would probably...
I don't know whether it would do better, but it would...
financially, it would recoup more of its losses. Sure.
Then um, because I don't know if you've seen any of the ads for this, including the one that we did, or I did.
I don't think you were there.
Also, I think I call the guys something hammerhead. Like I said the wrong name of like the leader.
Oh no. And they didn't pick up on it. So anyway, that's how in the world. And I got paid. So it doesn't matter.
But uh...
His name's Aragorn, but you called him Marty Nuggets.
He's what, you know...
But a lot of the ads have the live-action footage in it from like the two towers. To be like, you remember this.
Ah, okay.
But what if people drew it?
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, but I am looking
forward to it. I like the director and I think I do. I don't know. He's done good
work in the past. Who knows what he's like as a real person. Who is the director of this?
I can't remember. It's a Japanese movie. So it's someone who's done good anime.
Oh. I don't know if you know this but I don't actually know that much about
Japanese cinema. Kenji Kamiyama who did Ghost in the Shell stuff and East
of Eden and Napping Princess, which is something I assume. More Ghost in the Shell stuff, more
East of Eden. So yeah. And he's 58 years old, if that means anything to you.
Means nothing to me.
Okay.
What a nothing age.
You don't think you're achieving anything at that point?
No. So it's not a peak or a trough. It's just over you're achieving anything at that point? No.
So it's not a peak or a trough, it's just over.
I think so, yeah.
Okay, cool.
I guess we'll find out this week when his movie comes out.
Yeah.
That's exciting, isn't it?
Yes.
Yes.
We've already seen two movies in a day?
We don't have to.
You don't want to see two movies?
No, I do want to see two movies.
But not in a day.
I love two movies.
Yeah, okay.
I might break it up. Yeah. Although I probably only have limited time this coming week, so I probably will see two movies. I love two movies. Yeah, okay. I might break it up.
Yeah.
Although I probably only have limited time this coming week, so I probably will watch
two movies in a day.
Cool, man.
Yeah.
Must be nice to lounge around all day.
This guy is watching two movies in a day.
I wish I had that kind of time, Mason.
I do.
It's my job.
I was going to say, before I got here, you sent me a text that was like, I'm here, come
in, I'm lying down. So, and I'll leak that before I got here, you sent me a text that was like, I'm here, come in, I'm lying down.
And I'll leak that text to the world.
Don't do it.
No, I'm going to do it.
I'm going to do it.
This next bit of news is also Lord of the Rings related and it's via the playlist.
They spoke with writer Philippa Boyan, who of course wrote on the original Lord of the
Rings trilogy and I'm the Hobbit, and now this upcoming Gollum spin-off interquel movie.
Do you think anybody has fed the entirety of J.R. Tolkien's work into a chat?
Yes.
To GPT and just squirted out a new thing?
Yes.
You think it's good?
No.
Yeah, I didn't think so either.
A bunch of people have done that.
Should we do it?
Yeah, we could do it.
I don't want to do it.
You meant me to do it, didn't you?
No. Because you said we and then you said you didn't want to do it. I don't want to do it. You meant me to do it, didn't you? No.
Cause you said we, and then you said you didn't want to do it.
I don't really want to.
But you want me to do it.
Cause I'll do it.
Not really. Okay.
If you burn it down a rainforest.
How about this?
How about I go to chat GPT right now?
Oh yeah.
I'm listening.
Just give me a Lord of the Rings spin off idea.
I don't even know how chat GPT works.
Is there a chatgpt.com?
Yeah, there is actually. Hey. Hey chat GPT works. Is there a chatgpt.com? Yeah, there is actually. Hey.
Hey chat GPT.
Give me a Lord of the Rings. This is terrible content.
Yeah.
For the listeners. Spin off idea. Make it ten.
Make it ten?
Yeah.
Wow.
Make it snappy.
Make it ten baby.
Should I say baby?
You should say baby I think. Make it snappy. Baby. ten baby. Should I say baby? You should say baby, I think.
Make it snappy.
Baby.
Baby, exclamation mark, here we go.
How long's the time?
Here are ten snappy Lord of the Rings ideas.
Snappy!
The Corsairs of Umba, a pirate themed series
follows the crew of the black numero-
Nah, the fall of numero-
High stakes political and naval drama.
What are they called, the Corsairs?
What's the first one?
Yeah, it's just pirate shit. No, but is it real? Is that a real reference? Yeah, probably. No, what are they called? The Corsairs? What's the first one?
Yeah, it's just pirate shit.
No, but is it real?
Is that a real reference?
Yeah, probably.
No, what are they called?
Give me a thing.
I'm going to Google.
The Corsairs of Umber.
Corsairs.
And then the fall of Numenor, which I think is also, they're doing that in the show anyway.
So.
Corsairs of Umber.
My goodness.
What about this one?
Oh, they're the bad guys in the third one.
Yeah.
The pirates? No.
There's a... Where Aragorn's from, there's a city and it's in the spin-off prequel series. Is it called Umbar? Yeah, it's called Umbar and it's like someone that they tried to get like immortality
from the elves or something and then God flooded their city. It's something like that. I don't know.
Don't correct me. It's something to do with boats and... Wow, a somewhat accurate summary. What are you? ChatGPT.com? There's also Tom Bombadour, Tales of the Forest, the Wraith Chronicles,
which is the origin of the Nazgul, the Dwarves of Khazad-dum, a gritty series
founded in the founding of Moria in its golden age, okay, the Ranges of
North, which is a witch's style adventure following Aragorn's ancestors,
the Siege of Barad-dur, an epic war between the last Alliance of Okay. The Ranges of the North, which is a witch's style adventure following Aragorn's ancestors. God, these are snappy.
The Siege of Barad-dûr, an epic war between the last alliance of elves and men.
A Shadow in the East, a spy thriller set in Rûn following a Gondorian agent infiltrating
the ranks of Sauron's Easterlings.
I don't mind that.
Oh yeah.
It's a pretty good computer.
The Making of the Rings, a drama about the forging of the Rings of Power.
You mean the show The Rings of Power?
No, it means the Rings of Power? Do you mean that?
And The Hobbit, The Lost Tales, a lighthearted anthology of Bilbo's unwritten adventures
before The Hobbit.
Where what?
He didn't do anything.
Maybe he did.
Maybe he stole his neighbor's carrots.
Maybe he stole his neighbor's carrots and he got away with it, didn't he?
And then killed him.
Yeah.
Buried him in the garden under his carrots.
Under what remained of his carrots.
There you go. There's some Lord of the Rings ideas for carrots. Under what remained of his carrots. There you go.
There's some Lord of the Rings ideas for you anyway.
What remains of the carrots.
A dark tale of Bilbo.
Oh yeah.
Killing that guy.
The telltale carrots.
So, Philippa Boyne said on the spin-off, whether Viggo Mortensen comes back as Aragon.
Oh yes.
He's now like 65.
She said, honestly, that's entirely up to Viggo.
Collaboratively.
According to his contract, it's not entirely up to Vigo.
Well, he didn't want to come back for the Hobbit.
He was asked and he refused to do it.
And we are in the very early stage.
I've spoken to Vigo and Andy Serkis has spoken to him.
Peter Jackson has spoken to him.
We've all spoken to him.
And honest to each other.
If you say that like really exasperated, Peter Jackson's talked to him.
We're all talking to him.
We're all talking to him, all right?
And honestly, I can't imagine anyone else playing Aragorn
But it will be completely and up to entirely up to Vigo. I know Andy wants him to do it
But also we don't want we don't see it as like using AI technology
This is about digital makeup and certain to make him younger and whether Vigo does it or will be entirely depend on how good the
Script is again. It's going to be set after the birthday party of Bilbo
Baggins but before the Mines of Moria. So it's in that window. That's Sweet Spot.
Sweet Spot.
Which is also five years after Return of the Jedi. So that's very exciting. How do you
feel about a de-aged Viggo Mortensen coming back to play Aragorn in an in-between cool
movie set after a birthday party but before another thing? And Gollum's in it.
I would have liked to see him at the birthday party.
Oh yeah, okay.
Having a nice time.
He's earned a nice time.
Maybe they'd use his sword to cut the cake and they're like, that's funny.
That's funny.
That's funny.
Yeah.
Is this supposed to be canonical to any of the books?
Is this an adventure that didn't make it into the movies?
I don't know whether it's mentioned in the movies, maybe it's in the extended or maybe
it isn't, but there is a section of the book where it's mentioned that he tracked, maybe
Gandalf said that Aragorn tracks Gollum to find out what he knows about the ring.
But before he finds him, the bad guys get him and like torch the information out of
him.
Oh yeah, that's in the movies.
Yeah.
And it's in the game, the hunt for Gollum, which is a game at BigSandwich.co which we played.
Is that this week?
Can't remember. I'll find out right now.
But yeah, I don't know, man. I mean, you know, people have got ideas.
People have got ideas.
And that's good.
I think it's good.
Fresh ideas.
Yeah, that's out this week actually. Yeah, so if you want to check out BigSandwich.co,
we've played The Hunt for Gollum game.
That's right.
And it sucks. Everybody was right. It was bad. It was really bad. for Gollum game. That's right. And it sucks.
Everybody was right.
It was bad.
It was really bad.
Bad and boring and stupid.
There's some interesting ideas in it.
And like there's some interesting kind of world building designs.
But we didn't get to any of those.
No, we saw Gandalf.
Yeah, that's true.
I think it was cool.
But we played it for like 40 minutes and nothing happened.
That's not true.
So many things happened.
We made it so much fun.
We made it fun.
I was speaking of things that are fun.
No, we closed some gates on those big dogs.
That's so true, isn't it?
Yeah.
Speaking of lore and canonical things and so forth,
I was on the most recent episode of The Loremen.
And that feel?
It was good fun.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Felt good?
Yeah, we learned about spooky stuff.
What'd you learn?
I learned that all the fun, cool names of places in England
that sound so like cool and interesting and
romantic to me are actually just like, you know, boring, boring places.
Like Ringwood.
Yeah, like Ringwood.
Like Pakenham.
Like Pakenham.
Yeah.
Like the Greensboro Bypass.
Oh my god.
You know?
Yeah.
These are all good things by so.
That's right.
But Lawmen, a podcast about, about mythological oddities and...
You've done a few guest spots on that.
I have done a few guest spots, but this one's on video.
Wow.
That's right.
How do they capture your beautiful face?
Cameras.
That's nice.
Or just one, the one on my phone.
The one on your phone.
Yeah, yeah.
That's great.
I'm glad I can watch that now.
Me too.
But I won't.
No.
Because I'm doing this podcast, which is more important to me personally.
Also, she said apparently on this Lord of the Rings stuff, there might be another epic trilogy
in the works depending on how this goes.
How do you feel about another?
Hell yeah, epic trilogy.
I don't know man.
I mean it feels like the whole Star Wars thing and like, it's kind of like, I don't need
a new Lord of the Rings thing every year.
No, same.
I mean in other media, you know, you chuck a game out every now and then and whatever,
but I don't need...
Collectible card game. What are those things they used to have?
Pogs.
They don't have any more.
Pogs.
No.
Slap bands.
No. Like a Bitcoin.
NFTs.
NFTs.
No, they still got NFTs.
Remember NFTs?
Yeah, they're still doing them.
Great.
People are doing them, Mason.
Great.
You got to... this now is the perfect time to get in because they're not worth anything.
So true. They can only go up to the moon.
They're all good, aren't they? Now's the perfect time to get in because they're not worth anything. So true they can only go up to the moon.
They're all good aren't they?
This is exciting news via Deadline if we're talking spin-offs.
A second The Rookie spin-off is in development.
What do you mean a second The Rookie spin-off?
There already was one because this comes after, yeah he pretends he doesn't know, but there
was, it's been a year since the show's first spin-off The Rookie Fed starring Nisi Nashbets
was cancelled after one season. That's a shame. Do you want to first been off. The Rookie Fed starring Nisi Nashbetts was cancelled after one season.
That's a shame.
Do you want to explain the premise of The Rookie just quickly?
I don't know what it is.
Come on man.
Let's be real with each other for once.
Okay, it's about a veteran cop and rocky rookie.
And he has various adventures as a cop as far as I know.
No Mason, he's called The Rookie and you know this.
Because he's a 40 year old man who becomes a cop, a beat cop.
And they're like, but you're old.
Then he's like, not old enough to cave someone's head in with his baton.
That's right.
It's easy when the balance of power is in your hands.
That's what he says.
You're given state sponsored violence.
It stars Nathan Fillion and the Untold Spinoff series will be written by the original series
creator Alexi Hawley.
So set in Washington state, the second The Rookie spinoff follows a male cop who was
stepping into a new phase of life in his second act.
It keeps the major midlife crisis concept of the Los Angeles set series, original series,
which started off with Nathan Fillion's John Nolan.
So they're just going with second rookie.
It's another rookie.
What if there was another rookie?
Well, he's not a rookie anymore.
No.
Because he's a beat cop or something or a detective. I don't know.
Yeah.
I switched careers to become, yeah, became the oldest rookie in the LAPD.
Wow.
This is crazy. What did, you'll know this, but I won't.
I won't know this.
What is Jonathan Nolan's job? John Nolan? What was his job before he was the rookie?
He was Christopher Nolan's brother. Oh. brother. He wrote Westworld and stuff.
Oh, and then they went...
And then he was like, what if you were the youngest speed cop or something?
Yeah. Let's find out. It's training and then blah, blah, blah. Biography. Here we go.
I can't believe I'm telling you this. Oh, in the pilot episode, Nolan is showing, storing
his divorce papers and wedding ring in a safe deposit box in his hometown of Foxburg, Pennsylvania. He tells the bank manager that his divorce
has been coming for two years and then he and his ex-wife, Sarah have agreed to stay
married until the sun. This is all boring stuff, Macy's. I don't need a god. What did
he do? What was his job? Oh, there was a bank robbery and he went, I'm going to be a police
officer now. Why am I telling you this?
Cause I don't know anything about the rookie. I know you know about the rookie.
That's true. Yeah. Yeah. Great stuff. Anyway Because I don't know anything about the rookie. Yeah. You know about the rookie. That's true. Yeah.
Yeah. Great stuff.
Anyway, I don't know what his job was.
Probably just a man.
Yeah, just a man.
What was John Nolan's job before rookie?
Are you asking Chad GPT?
Yeah.
Great.
I was a construction company.
He closed his construction company in Pennsylvania and
moved out to West to be a police officer. God damn. Do you think I can go into this
show having not seen any of the rookie? Yeah. Yeah. I do think that. Great. Are you going
to is my question. Well, I think I'd like to get like know more about this John Nolan
character. No you don't. Yes I do. I've heard nothing but good things from you.
You've never heard anything from me about the rookie.
We should move on.
I know you can talk about this all day but I can't.
I've run out of things to say.
This is by the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
That was another segment of James is searching for a punchline desperately to end this bit
and he hasn't found one yet.
Sometimes you just get a bit of news during the week.
It's like a bolt of lightning from God, you know?
That's right, yeah.
You keep a joke going.
Or a bolt of lightning from the devil because again, it didn't round this out, did it?
It's just expanded.
The devil doesn't shoot lightning, Mason.
You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
I bet he could if you wanted to.
That's not one of his powers.
I bet it is.
No, he's got a pitchfork and a fire or whatever.
Yeah.
You don't know.
I don't know. It's true, actually.
Happy Sad Confused podcast. They spoke to James Gunn about a bunch of stuff. Of course,
Creature Commandos was out last week, first two episodes, which again, we're going to talk about,
but just some other information came out that I thought might be worth bringing up. He was asked
about Kamau Nanjiani playing booster gold. Oh yeah. And he said, we're not quite there yet in terms
of booster gold. The scripts aren't quite where I want them to be. So he didn't, he didn't confirm whether that is true. I
would say there's a very good chance that that is true because they are friends and
they were friends before either, before James Gunn even came on board with Marvel and before
Kamau Nanjiani became a big ripped muscular man. So, and I think he'd probably be a good
booster gold, I feel. he's a funny guy. Yeah
He's also said the golf in the beginning was to give the was to give the honor that their great characters deserve the Wonder Woman's the Batman's the Superman's but also to prop up lesser-known characters like peacemaker booster gold and the huntress
So yeah, I like that balance. I think Mason have we had a huntress yet
Is there a yeah for the huntress that sounds to me like there might be other huntress was a Mary Elizabeth Winst for the huntress? That sounds to me like there might be a the huntress. Was Mary Elizabeth Winstead the huntress?
She was the huntress.
For a hot minute?
For a hot minute she was a version of the huntress.
She could still be the huntress.
That's true, yeah.
You can fold her back in some characters.
They might fold her back in.
Here's the question because the original huntress was a parallel universe child of the Batman and Catwoman.
Do you think they might do that again?
No.
Okay then.
Do you think?
Maybe.
Are they doing parallel multiverse stuff?
Who knows?
Well, we know they're doing like Elseworld stuff. So maybe, maybe they will.
Yeah, The Batman. Matt Reeves is The Batman is technically an Elseworld.
James Gunn has referred to as an Elseworld this week.
We can talk about that. It's said apparently, and we've also talked about this as well,
he considered putting the Batman in the DCU. I don't think it really makes sense at this point, especially after the Penguin and just
seeing what kind of universe.
I mean, Batman's not even in the Penguin, you know?
So why would he be in this other universe?
Yeah.
Well, because he was, is he not being in the Penguin?
Oh, he stepped through a portal or whatever.
Yeah, he stepped through a portal, yeah.
I'm committed to both telling stories in the DCU and telling elseworld stories.
We want to be able to tell a story where Superman is very different or to tell a Red Sun story or whatever. We want to be able to... People always say Red
Sun. Whenever they say elseworld it's always Superman but Red Sun.
It is the best known one probably.
Yeah. We want to be able to play with these characters in different ways. If they did
do a Red Sun, would you like to see the same actor play Superman or is that an opportunity
to cast a Russian guy?
I think...
Well not necessarily Russian but a guy doing a Russian accent but speaking in English. I think it should be David
Caron sweat again. Yeah okay don't think that would be confusing for me. The
stupidest man. Don't think I would be confused because I'm so stupid. No I don't think
that's true. I think you should give yourself more credit. You're not that
stupid. But I'm not like you wouldn't call me an intellectual dark web member.
No, you're not a Jordan Peterson.
Yeah.
You know, the primary intellectual of our time.
You know?
Yeah, he's normal.
He's normal, yeah.
Not that normal.
Yeah.
No, you're right.
Any else words you want to say?
I mean, Red Sun, obviously.
Obviously Red Sun.
What about a Gotham by gaslight?
What about a Batman versus the Predator? They can't do that cuz now they can't do that
No, I don't want to you know, you know, we've got James Gunn's ear obviously, but I don't we don't know
We don't want to dictate what what it is. Happy has to do, you know, cuz we have been doing that so far
What about an elseworld where you know Superman and Batman live
in a really gritty sad world and it's you know everything's dark and mean and
awful and nothing makes sense. Nothing makes any sense at all you know. There's a violent bit in a
cool way but it's not that cool. Yeah it's pretty I mean if do you consider slow
motion very cool. Yeah I think it's very cool. Okay then yeah. In terms of Green
Lantern he said yeah it is gonna in, then yeah In terms of Green Lantern, he said yeah
It is gonna in terms of it being a grounded Green Lantern stories
Of course Green Lantern is a space cop but he said they're on earth for the story like most Green Lantern stories
It's not in outer space with a thousand lanterns and all that stuff. It's great to granted story being told to another lens
It's a HBO series. So I think yeah, he just means it's grounded because it's earth. Yeah, he is always on earth
He's in is there on earth all the time
on earth because he's the
How Jordan is the Greenland who protects the sector of space with earth in it?
How come there's often multiple Green Lanterns? Oh, what's going on? I'm gonna call for backup
Yeah, but like earth based Green Lanterns, like are they all doing earth stuff?
I believe I think the idea is that some of them were like
Like how Jordan had to train a backup a couple of times
Like John Stewart and Guy Gartner with his backups. Yeah, and it's like well if you got him it's a plastic ring
That's exactly right. Oh the rookie but it's a Green Lantern spin. Oh, yeah. Well, it's a good idea
Whoa, and Nathan Fillion is a Green Lantern. It's true true, isn't it? Yeah, he's whatevs
And he said what would he do? Would he do something with Watchmen?
He said, I don't know.
I really respect Alan Moore.
I did love the TV show.
So did I.
I don't think he will.
Not immediately.
I think if he was, he would probably go to Alan Moore specifically.
And I think he'd be more interested in doing stuff with the characters, which Watchmen
was originally going to be based on, like Peacemaker.
It's based on the comedian.
Blue Beetle is based on, no, Night Owl's Blue.
You know what I mean.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You have to name all of them now because somebody will email it.
Okay.
What are the other ones?
You don't have to, James.
Who's Silk Spectre? What's she again?
She's sort of an amalgam.
James, you've unfortunately picked the one
that doesn't have a direct analog,
and that's unfortunate for you.
Who's Rorschach?
He's the question, yeah.
All right, cool. There we go. We did them all. We did them all. Is that all of them?
That's all of them. Who's that? He's Vipe. He's Peter Cannon. Peter Cannon. Thunderbolt.
Okay. But not the Thunderbolt you're thinking of. I'm not thinking of anything. I know. The one
that Satan shoots. That's lightning. That's right. I'm sorry. Also this week, did you see Alan Moore
as one of his books has been optioned to be turned into a series?
Really?
Just because for people who perhaps don't know he stopped doing comics entirely.
Yeah.
You know a couple years ago.
He said that for babies.
He said that for stupid babies.
Waaah.
But he's got a new series.
The first book is called The Great When and it's set in Long, London which is like a mystical London.
Because he started writing comics.
What does that mean? Long? It's just longer. It's more in it I set in Long London which is like a mystical London because he started writing what does that mean long it's just longer more in
it I reckon it's got enough yeah I've been there it's fucking huge but it's
all round isn't it yeah well this one's long okay yeah that's right so they've
unraveled it like Dark City or like like a cinnamon scroll yeah you unrolled it
okay that's how they describe it in the book it's like a cinnamon a wizard like A wizard's like, it's like a cinnamon scroll. What's a wizard, is it? There's
a wizard in it. There's a couple of wizards in it. Have you read this book? I've started reading
this book. Is this the one that's a million pages long? And that's Jerusalem. I haven't read that
one. I was a little bit intimidated. Plus every time you go to buy a copy, it's like 50 bucks.
And I'm like, what if I buy this and I'm two pages in it? What about a Kindle? I'd have to buy a
Kindle. Yeah, I guess you would.
What's the book like though?
Is it good?
I'm enjoying it so far.
Yeah.
It's got a lot of... It's like you can't rush through it.
I wasn't going to.
Because it's kind of like he's really... Every sentence is very kind of dense imagery and
it's kind of like... What I did is I started reading it and I'm like, I'll just... Just whip through this. I'll just whip through this and then I'm like, no, no, I've been, I've, what I did as I started reading it and I'm like, Oh, you know, I'll just, just whip through this.
And then I'm like, no, I'm going to go back.
And then I sort of crept into a rhythm where I'm just like, every sentence is its own,
like a little, it's good.
It's good.
He's really like, he entered a room that boy, it was different.
It was longer than you'd think.
You know, he's in a toilet than it was.
Why he's in the toilet, but it's really long.
Yeah, it's long. Yeah. Like this, the's in a toilet. It was longer than it was wide. He's in the toilet, but it's really long. Yeah, it's long.
Yeah.
Like, the book goes, yeah, how normally you go into the bathroom and the toilet's right
there.
Well, it was pretty long.
It was at the end.
Like six or seven feet away.
Yeah, you look down and you're like, huh.
He's like, wow, I must be in a magical realm.
But anyway, he's optioned.
He's optioned it.
And he's like, I don't know.
Who do you option it to?
I don't know.
It's probably the BBC or something.
I don't know.
Maybe look into it. But he seems to be actually excited for this. Yeah. I don't know. It's probably the BBC or something. I don't know. Maybe look into it. But he seems to be actually excited for this.
Yeah.
I don't know. Because, you know, he's, you know, he was a man, he's a man who was very enthusiastic
for the comic book medium for many decades and he got burned a bunch of times.
Yeah.
And he seems to be enjoying writing books.
Okay. I'm just looking at Ellen Moore TV series. Yeah. I don't know, man.
Nice.
Yeah. Colin Callender's blah, blah. Yeah. I don't know, man. Nice. Yeah. Uh, Colin Callender's Playground nabs.
Huh?
I don't know who that is.
Nah.
It must be a production company of some description.
So true.
Oh, he's a CEO at Playground Entertainment.
There you go.
So I went through them.
There you go.
That's true.
Let's go.
Let's go Alan Moore.
Last bit of news is by Extra TV.
Next week, Alan Moore hates adaptation of his new book that he made and he should he produced. Yep
Extra TV they spoke to Dave Filoni about a soaker season 2
Mm-hmm
If you remember a soaker season 1 it was rebel season 5 or whatever and they went what if all your friends were live-action?
That's right
and they went to a weird planet and there were wolves and
Never and Thrawn was there and he was like that was exactly my plan as he was constantly beaten.
That's exactly what I wanted actually.
Okay but the space whales were there.
Space whales were there.
And that little guy was there, the little man.
Ezra?
Ezra was there maybe.
Yeah, yeah and he had a little beard now and whatever.
Yeah that's right.
They were using the force on each other.
Yeah and Ahsoka was like I'm here.
I'm standing in this room.
Look how many lightsabers I have too.
Two lightsabers.
That's accurate.
That's canonical.
Yeah.
And I'm stoic.
These things in my head, they're la-coo.
And that's also accurate and canonical.
Though they have a conversation with this person
on the other side of the screen.
Yeah.
Oh, Anakin Skywalker's here and he's a ghost or whatever.
He's in Force backs.
It's Flashback Mason in the Force.
Do you remember that show?
Not really. We both enjoyed
it. I didn't like it. We both didn't love it. Anyway, Dave Filoni said, I've been writing it
this season too and I'm still the single writer on it. I've been enjoying doing that, but it's
a challenge of course. Working with some arcs through it has been a challenge and making sure
it's all going to come out in a way that I think is exciting for fans. So what's Ahsoka going to
say for example, before she gets into a boring lightsaber fight?
What's she going to say?
She's going to say it's time for a boring lightsaber fight.
Get ready.
That's right.
Yeah man.
But don't get too ready.
Because if you got too ready you'd beat me.
Get mostly ready.
I don't.
I'm just kind of not.
Maybe there should be another writer.
Maybe there should.
I mean so that Man, DeLorian and Grogu series movie is finished.
I'm just not very excited about this five years after the Return of the Jedi thing they're
all doing.
That's a shame because that's every project.
No, there's Skeleton Crew and there's Andor and other things, but just this, it feels
to me like it's petering out.
It needs to kind of ramp up and maybe this is the thing to do it because they are building to the Thrawn movie or something they were talking about.
Remember that? Or was it the Grogu? I don't know.
Are you all right?
No, Mason. I'm not.
You don't seem all right.
It's not because of this.
Just generally.
Yeah, just generally.
This doesn't help though, does it?
No, it definitely doesn't help. I thought this was supposed to make you feel good.
I did like skeleton crew.
Me too.
We did talk about crew. Me too.
We did talk about it.
But yeah, this will also begin filming in 2025, which means that the earliest this will
come out in 2026, which is three years after the first eight episodes or whatever the fuck.
So even that, the idea that like, what am I supposed to remember from this?
You know, like, I mean, people have talked about this, it is a problem where they're
doing these limited series and then they port and then four years later you get something else
and it's like, I've forgotten this.
That'll be a recap.
Yeah.
I mean, they could just play the recap that we just did.
That's true.
You know, screen goes blank and it's us going, oh, there was Space Whales and your little
mate was there.
That little guy was there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Get ready for a lightsaber fight.
I will.
Thank you, Ahsoka.
Thank you for the heads up. Yeah. So there you go. Get ready for more Star Wars at some point, eventually.
He hasn't finished writing it, so I don't know. He's doing it by himself, which seems hard, I'd imagine.
Alright, let's move it along.
Okay. for the movie event of the year with Disney's Mufasa the Lion King. It's time I tell you a story. A story? About Mufasa and the prince who would come to be known as Scar.

There's a brand new Star Wars television series, Mason,
and there's two episodes out.
And there's a brand new position for your laptop.
This is how I have to charge it.
It's running out of juice so you've plugged it in and you've tipped it upside down.
Not an uncommon situation for people to be in I think.
A lot of people's laptops, yeah I have to charge it upside down.
It's cooked and you can't put the cord in while you're using it because when you put
the cord in it just resets the whole thing.
I will get it fixed but it will be in January
I take some time off. I cannot afford to get a fixed right now, Mason. It would ruin the flow of my work.
So true. Yeah. Someone the other day looked at that laptop and said what is with that laptop?
Like why is it how old is that? I mean, it's not old. It's just big. It does a lot of stuff. So true. Yeah
It's overwhelmed. It is overwhelmed. Yeah, Mason. Skeleton crew. Skeleton skeleton crew The budget for this is apparently a hundred and thirty six million dollars, which is a fifteen million more than the Mandalorian
But I would say go on it
Looks better than a lot of the Star Wars stuff because it looks like they had a bunch of real stuff and sets and costumes
Well, it's it's it's it's more expansive in the sense that a lot of Mandalorian sets are just the desert.
Yes.
Whereas this, they've had to go, this is Star Wars in the suburbs.
You have to make the suburbs, mate.
Exactly, that's right.
I'm not sure in terms of ratings, but I would imagine considering the reception of this
and what I've heard people talk about it, that this is going to build on itself week
to week.
But before we get into why we might think that is, what do you think
the story was?
Oh, come on, mate.
Yeah.
There's a little boy and his name's Wim.
What?
Presumably named after Wim Hof.
Oh, okay. The breathing method.
The breathing guy, the guy, the ice bath guy. I would assume so.
You ever had an ice bath?
No.
It's all right. Go on.
Great. Anyway, he's from At-Aton, which is a planet that is the suburbs. And he's got
a little friend named Neil. Yep. Neil the suburbs. And he's got a little friend named Neil.
Yep.
Neil, yes.
And he's an elephant kid.
And he's an elephant kid.
And they're just, they're a couple of kids.
They live on planet the 80s.
They live on planet 80s.
They go to school where your desk is a big etch of sketch.
They do.
They live on planet Goonies.
Or planet E.T.
Yeah, that's right.
And they're going to school and Wim's daddy's all, I've got to go to work.
I don't have time for kids.
What does he do for a job, do you think?
80s stuff?
80s stuff.
Yeah, he's probably got a big presentation.
Yeah, he probably got a big presentation.
He's got all these plans that he's putting together.
He's got all these rolled up plans.
Oh yeah, he's got to take the rolled up plans to back and forth to and from work all
day.
Yeah.
Probably, he's probably also having adventures where he's dropping the plans in the mud.
Yeah.
And he's like, God, Mr. Skellington Crew is going to have my head for this.
Exactly.
That's why it's called Skellington Crew by the way.
Yeah, it's the guy who spots Mr. Skellington Crew.
He's a robot.
Yeah.
But anyway, these kids are going to school and then they've got to do tests that are
going to determine the future of their lives and everything's stressful.
But they're just some little kids, but then they find a spaceship.
Them and two other kids.
It's four kids.
Four kids.
Four kids and they get in the spaceship and it takes off.
And it's the 80s.
And it's the 80s everywhere.
It's the 80s. And it's the 80s everywhere. It's the 80s.
This was created by John Watts who is the director of this Spider-Man homecoming trilogy. And Wolfs. And Wolfs and also yeah and also Christopher Ford who was the writer on Homecoming
and also have you ever seen the movie called The Clovitch Killer? No but you've mentioned it.
Yeah it's a guy who is a kid who thinks his dad might be this like famous serial killer.
It's good it's well worth checking out. I think it's a guy who is a kid who thinks his dad might be this like famous serial killer. It's good.
It's well worth checking out.
I think it's also got a really bunch of really interesting directors.
Some have done Star Wars before.
John Watts, of course.
David Lowry, who did the Green Knight direct episode of this.
The Daniels who did everything ever all at once to a couple episodes.
Bryce Dallas Howard, who's done some of the best Star Wars episodes, also is directing
on this.
So there's some really good names.
I very much enjoyed this. So there's some really good names. I very much enjoyed this.
I thought it was really delightful and I will show at least my son this, which of all the other Star
Wars TV stuff I'm like, I could probably show him the Mandalorian, but I don't. I would be
interested in sitting down with him to watch this. Well I think this, you know, you take away all the
Star Wars trappings and it is very similar to the Goonies or what have you, where it's like,
you know, kids and they've got regular kid problems and how do you get, you know, and wouldn't
it be amazing if all your problems were swept away because you jumped onto an adventure
and you did that, you know.
And presumably when they get back, the parents aren't going to be, the parents are going
to be like, oh, it's just so great for you to be back.
And they're not going to be like, okay, but have you done your homework?
Have you? Have you?
Have you grounded?
Yeah.
I mean, depending on the next, I wonder if they are going to do another season of this
because kids age out of things.
Not the elephant CGI person, but it's true.
Yeah.
I don't know.
It depends where I guess where this kind of ends up.
But I think it is really difficult to capture like that feel of like the eighties.
I think it's like there's been attempts at it.
Like, I think Stranger Things did it, especially in the earlier seasons.
Then there was Super 8 and I didn't think that quite did that.
But there is an energy.
It's not just the look.
It's a few things combined.
And the suburb settings and Etch A Sketch is the way they bounce off each other.
And a viewmaster.
The kid's got a big viewmaster situation.
Because he dreams of being a Jedi. That's
what he wants to do. He doesn't want to get into, because they're doing the test that's
like the kind of thing of like, well, what role will you have in the future? Is it data
analysis or what have you? But he just wants to be a Jedi. Because he's heard all the stories
of the Jedi and he and his friend do fake lightsaber battles in the street and stuff like that exactly cool kids
Yeah, and you think it's kind of a normal planet, but is it oh, yeah, about that. It's a bit of spot. Um, yeah
Oh
It's just some things we could talk about which aren't spoiler related, but Jaleel white is in this
Oh, yeah, very cool. Yeah, I was Kerry Condon. It's Kerry condon. She's in the banshees of it. Oh, yeah
She's great big banshees of initially. Oh yeah, she's great. Big fan. Like her a lot. The droid in this is great. So on the
ship that they find, there's an old droid on there. He kind of looks like a skeleton
actually. He's SM-33. He's voiced by Nick Frost from Shaun of the Dead. He has an incredible
battle scene. There's a moment where he beats up a bunch of pirates. He's got those hotplate
gauntlets, which I really enjoyed. and there's of course, Jude Law. I presume some kind of space pirate.
Because there's an opening sequence in this where some space pirates hijacking a
vessel. And it seems as if even though he's wearing a mask. That's him. That's probably Jude Law.
And there's a werewolf guys in it that's right Star Wars werewolf guy
yeah I like that I think that's such a good kind of scary 80s kind of
character monster yeah space werewolf yeah or just a wolf man yeah he's in um
I think he's in I don't know if it's that one in particular but there's one
in the first Star Wars in the bar well I was gonna say he said he certainly looks
like a Mos Eisley bar patron.
Yeah.
There's also, you know, that little gremlin thing that when they park their ship, I think
that is from the Caravan of Garbage Ewok movies.
I'm pretty sure.
You mean Caravan of Courage.
Caravan of Courage, sorry.
Yeah, I did mean that.
But yeah.
Yeah, great.
Yeah.
There's a lot of little nods like this to stuff that they don't really refer to.
There's a direct reference to the Star Wars holiday special in this.
There is, yeah.
There's a moment where they're watching that terrible hologram.
I wonder if that's the same footage or if it's...
Recreative.
Recreative.
Because, I mean, it might be the same footage because any footage you can get of that is
all unofficial.
So they would have the actual film of it.
That's true, yeah.
So it's possibly, and every now and then they'll release like a snippet of the actual quality of it.
Yeah.
Which you can see.
But yeah.
I think the cast is great.
I think they mesh really well.
Again, there's that fun energy kind of to it.
There was that kind of, you know, that hope not...
There's a hopefulness, but also like a trapped kind of desperation to like being bored in the suburbs and you're set in a certain, you know,
path that you do, you do, you want it, you dream of like a greater adventure.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
So we got, we got two pairs of kids. So it's Wim, played by Ravi Cabot Conyers. He's the human
boy. Then his friend is Neil, voiced by Robert Robert Timothy Smith and then there's two girls so Ryan Keir Armstrong is Fern and she's like a
Like a like a like a Han Solo. Well, yeah, she's sort of she's sort of rebelling again
her mother is her mother is Kerry Condon. Yeah, so she's who's a kind of a
like a
Important official of some sort. Yes, so she's rebelling against her mom and she's like, you know, I hate Star Wars. Oh, yeah. She's riding speeder bikes and all that sort of stuff. And then she's
got her friend is Kiriana Kratta, who's KB, who's also a human girl. And she's got some
low-bot powers. She's got low-bot powers. She seems to wear, she wears like a visor,
but she's sort of, it feels like that character is sort of very unconfident in her life. And so
she, there's a moment where
she doesn't wear it around her friend but when she sees anybody else she puts the visor down. Yeah.
To seem cooler than she is I think.
Yeah.
Which I thought was an interesting touch.
Yeah absolutely. I want to I don't know whether they'll talk about it because you know people
in Star Wars have you know various attachments and things that drilled into their brains. I wonder
whether it's like a medical condition thing or is it just like, is it like just
a cool pair of sunglasses that she wears?
Maybe it's just like a cool pair of slacks that you wear and signature slacks.
I like the bikes in this.
I like bikes, Mason.
Yeah, the kids have the junior putt-putt versions of a speeder bike.
Just a teeny,teeny one that...
I mean, you don't pedal, but how does hovering work?
Because even when the bike stops, you've got to lift it over stuff.
I mean, that's how they all work in this maneuver.
And they've always worked.
Well, you've got to lift it over so you don't crack the mirrors.
I guess so.
Yeah.
Should we do a little bit of spoilers?
Let's do a little bit of spoilers.
I think it's thus far best series ever.
I really like it.
I, again, I got the screen as for it and I went, now it gets well when it comes out.
And now I am.
And I am.
Wow.
Wow, wow, wow.
I guess the only real spoiler in this that's significant is it seems as if, because there's
this lost planet in the galaxy, a treasure planet if you will.
Well, they've come from the planet of at, what is it?
At Adam.
At Adam, which they, you know, it's their whole world.
Not just that the planet is all they know, the suburbs is all these kids know.
And then they get in the spaceship, they discover this spaceship that has been buried.
Wynn thinks it's an old Jedi temple, but it turns out it's a buried spaceship.
They've started up, it immediately
hyperspaces out of their star system. But you could just turn it around.
Exactly, but they can't. Why not?
I don't know. Because their planet's hidden from everybody.
Yes. And so they discovered that their planet is not just a boring suburb. It is a treasure planet.
I think this is, yeah, it's treasure planet or what's it called?
Treasure Island as well.
Jude Law's character, I feel is, that's Long John Silver, right?
Yeah, okay, sure.
I think that's the direction.
Like you see, he's a guy and he's like, I'll help you out, let's do our adventure together.
But you know, he's also a bad guy, but also heart of gold, et cetera.
That's what I think it's going to end up being.
But I know I love that reveal when they get to that pirate spaceport or whatever and they mention
where they're from and very quickly it's like you realize that, oh, people don't, that's
not a known thing.
Like that's, yeah, that's-
Well, it's a mythical place.
It's a mythical place that they're apparently from.
And you also, you see when you're on the planet, you see it does have some kind of shield protection
thing when you look up, presumably some kind of cloaking or something.
And the robot doesn't have it in its data bank or whatever.
So I don't know.
Very interesting stuff.
Now what's the deal with Jude Law's character?
Because we do see him levitate a key.
Yeah.
Do you think it's fake?
I don't know.
Because that's the thing.
You would assume so.
Yeah.
They just did that with Kamau Nanjni's character as well in yeah, maybe one
But I mean how else would he be doing it a bit of string well
Yeah, I think he's just a force sensitive guy. Yeah, maybe he was like is a nice twist
Yeah, because it means he's not a former Jedi or thus far. He might be like a like a padawan
Oh, maybe yeah, I'm taught a 66. There's a bunch of those. But he's not fully trained.
Like Canaan was that.
Cal Kestis is that.
There's a few of them running around.
Or some people can just do it.
You know?
Yep.
Well, I look, I certainly hope he's not related to the Skywalkers or anything.
Hope he is.
Hope he's their dad.
Oh yeah, he's real.
All of their dads.
Real dads.
Okay, right. Oh, so he's Anakin Skywalker's dad. All of their dads. Real dads. Okay, right. Oh, so he's Anakin Skywalker's dad.
All of their dads.
Finally revealed who the dad is.
Exactly.
It's judelaw.
Wow.
And his key moving powers.
Wow.
How many episodes is this?
Is it eight?
I don't know.
Let me check.
That's far.
It's only two.
Maybe that's all we get.
And next week, just you click on episode three and a little text box pops up.
You got what you get.
It says now just use your imagination.
If you're still able to, you know.
Also, I liked how that first episode was slightly longer.
Eight. It is eight.
Last one comes out January 14th.
While we're on break.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I would say check it out.
If you're a Star Wars fan, if you're looking for something That's a bit nostalgic in a bit a bit fresh also
It's not just the Mandalorian stuff
Even though it's probably set five years after it again do show do show at least the first two episodes to at least one of
Your kids because I would love to know if this the idea of it still
Resonates with kids the idea it resonates with me. Isn't that enough that a grown man can enjoy a kids show? No because how are they gonna get more
consumers of the Star Wars IP if it doesn't resonate with children? You're
right. Because eventually we're gonna die. No we're not. Okay then great that's good
to know. But if we did. You're gonna use our podcast money to keep us alive. Yes.
For a hundred more years. That's right. You okay with that? Yes fine. But yeah I mean you
know the the idea of I'm just an ordinary kid and I mean, surely that translates forever, right? I would
say so. I don't think also like if I showed this to my son in particular, who's nine, he would be
like, oh, this is the 80s and nostalgic. I'm hoping the way he would perceive it is, yeah,
like you said, it's a universal kind of thing that kids draw onto adventure and like this idea of
a wider world.
Throw all your responsibilities away and go on an adventure.
Yeah.
And it's not even their fault because they just went into the thing and touched a button.
And it went, let's do Star Wars, all of us.
Correct.
Yeah.
I liked it.
Me too.
Check it out if you want to.
You don't have to.
That's right.
Not an ad, though I did do an ad.
Mason, let's talk about...
They didn't pay you enough to continually advertise the show.
No, that's not how it works. No. I'm an idiot. Yeah. Creature Commandos. Mason, let's talk about... They didn't pay you enough to continually advertise the show. No, that's not how it works. No. Not an idiot.
Creature Commandos. Oh yes.
Now the budget of this... The first official part of the DCU.
It wasn't The Flash? No.
It might have been if that was any good. Yeah, which it wasn't. So the budget of this,
I'm not entirely sure, but it seems as if it was nothing because animation is free and
you can draw anything. So true, isn't it?
All you gotta do is draw those things that you want to do.
So yeah as mentioned by Mason, it is the first in the DCU.
It's all been written by James Gunn.
He wrote this before he came on board as the creative head of DC Studios.
Just on a lark, did he?
Yeah, so because he of course directed the Suicide Squad and then this is adjacent to
that.
It's got a bunch of the voice cast. It's got a bunch of the voice cast. Some of the continuity
is the same even though... Some Rick Flag stuff. Rick Flag stuff you know.
What do you think the story was? Oh come on mate. Alright okay so after the events
of Peacemaker season one. Yep. Where Amanda Waller's daughter outs Amanda
Waller as the head of Suicide and and she's not allowed to make this
Anymore Suicide Squad, I guess
She's found a loophole, which is that apparently they can't stop her from making up a team of people who are not human
Yep, so she's got all the technically not a bunch of freaks in lockup and she's like who we got we got we got the
Bride of Frankenstein. Yep
We have GI robots. Yep
We out so in that's in dear of arm as the bride
Yes, who I believe was also in the TV series human target. Oh that okay second season of human target among other things
Yeah, but anyway, but and Sean gun is GI robot and weasel. Yes
That's a weasel doesn't really and we're just like
So GI robot is was built around World War two to kill Nazis
That's what he loves to do
That's right and weasel of course from the and he's mentioned as one of the last survivors of the Suicide Squad on Corte
Maltese which is and they're like, oh there must be something to him, but there's not he drowned and then he undrowned
He did undrown. He didn't do much. That's true. Yeah. Alan Tudyk is Dr.
Phosphorus. Yep. Always a good inclusion. Yes. Permanently radioactive skeleton man. Yes. I
would have thought he'd still count as human, but whatever. Whatever. Yeah. David Harbour is
Frankenstein. Yes. Mr. Frankenstein. Well, Eric Frankenstein. Yep. Viola Davis returns as Amanda
Waller. And Zoe Chow is Nina Mazursky, who's a fish woman. Oh yeah, that's right.
Yeah.
Oh, and Maria Bakalova who's from the Borat sequel.
And she's Cosmo the Space Dog.
Cosmo the Space Dog, yes.
Did you mention Frank Grillo?
No.
He's Rick Flagg Sr.
Yeah.
Who's the father of Rick Flagg Jr. who passed away in the Suicide Squad.
He did pass away in his sleep.
And with a piece of tile going through his heart.
Yeah. And he also, they reveal why he's the age that he is. So he had Rick Flagg when he was 18,
which explains why they are basically the same age. Right. Uh huh. Yeah. Yeah. Good cast overall.
I agree. How the performances though. Good.
Todd Viola Davis is back as... I mentioned that Mason. Did you?
I might have. Man of all. I thought about it. Yeah.
And so Steve Agee. Yes.
He's not in the first episode. No, but he will be. I might have thought about it. Yeah. And so Steve Agee. Yes. He's not in the first
No, but he will be I didn't honestly the first episode like I didn't love it
I thought and there's the start they did like, you know, there's a group of incels or whatever
and I'm like
I feel like we saw this in Harley Quinn and some other stuff and like I was like I kind of feels a bit like
invincible and Harley Quinn one of the criticisms of this I think is people have said oh it's James Gunn doing the thing he does again. You know which is misfit team. Well that
that also was like this is the crew and it's like it's this guy and this woman
and this. I'm like yeah no I fucking seen because I'm watching that interview we
talked about it was yeah he doesn't want to see the origin of Batman and Superman
again and they probably won't show them in his universe because it's like I've
seen that a million times. It's like I agree with you but I feel like I've also
seen this is the team and this person and this person this person. It's in video games now and everything else.
Speaking of James Gunn, as we're going to, he's also in the credits.
Yes, he is. There's an animated version of him. He's also in, was he in Harley Quinn?
Do you think he's being set up as like a Stan Lee style figure?
Maybe. Because I mean that worked for Stan Lee. Worked for Stan Lee.
For a bunch of years.
And he's still alive.
He is, it's true in our hearts.
Using CGI and stuff.
Yeah, that's true.
An AI and replacement, etc.
But.
Which I think would work for people who are fans of James Gunn and would annoy people who
are not fans of James Gunn.
That's very true.
Do you see, I very, because I sort of expected him to be like Machine Gunn to death in the
opening sequence in the titles.
But then he'd be canonically dead. Yeah, and people would be like good.
Or not really.
People would be like that.
People would be making gifs of it.
Yes.
Yeah.
I think, though, this got stronger.
I think so, too.
I think the second episode was much more interesting.
I think also in the first episode, some of the line reads are kind of weird.
OK, right.
I can't think of any specific examples, but there's a couple of lines where
the emphasis is on the wrong word.
Yeah.
Or like somebody mispronounces a word or something like that. And I'm like, did you not do a bunch of takes of this?
I didn't know. I just said, let's go. Yeah. I just, yeah, I just felt initially it was like,
no, it's not, there's nothing here that like the jokes are kind of Harley Quinn-esque sort of,
I mean, that's kind of a wackier kind of world and it's more kind of not making fun of, maybe.
Sometimes it is making fun of
like various DC characters.
So it does set itself apart from it, especially kind of as it goes on.
But I think as it's revealed that like the main character of this is probably the bride.
Yeah, we do get that's interesting.
Yeah, we do in the second episode we do unless of course we do and I think we may be doing
each episode we get a backstory.
Oh yeah.
So the second episode we get a backstory. Oh yeah. So the second episode, we get a backstory of the bride.
So you know, obviously in the original Frankenstein story, she doesn't get, yeah, she doesn't,
she doesn't get built.
But in the, in this, she, she is, she is fully assembled as means to have a, you know, a
wife for Frankenstein, but she doesn't want to do, she gets, she gets her own kind of
sentience and her own mind and priorities and she doesn't want to do that.
So she goes on the run and then there's a kind of a montage sequence of her being pursued by
Frankenstein over a span of 200 years. Over hilarious pop cultural events.
That's right. That's right. Snap bands. Hyper color.
Austin Powers. That's right. Yes.
All those kinds of things. The three eras.
Yeah. Also it's a very horny show. It those kinds of things. The Three Eras. Yeah.
Also, it's a very horny show. It is horny, isn't it? If this is the... I don't think
it's... I don't think this is indicative of everything. I think Superman is going to be
very earnest. Yeah. I know. I think he's even mentioned that. I think this is just a bunch
of horny people running around. Yeah. Having the horniest time. They are. And there's some
crook horny stuff in this as well. That's right involving monsters, etc
Yeah, but yeah, I'll tell you what the animations very good. It is very good. Yes. I would say it is
Superior to say invincible definitely except for the except for the promo thing the invincible stuff
That is better inexplicably because they're more time to work on it. Yeah, that way. Yeah
Yeah, I mean for me the Invincible is not the animation.
Like I enjoy it despite all of that. But yeah, but this is definitely animated.
There's a fight sequence between Flag and Dr. Phosphorus, which I think looks particularly good.
That's an incredible fight sequence. Yeah.
Because Dr. Phosphorus has the, he's got the continuous fire effect on him.
Yeah.
It's sort of like the Kirby crackle effect. Yeah. And that's constantly going and it's very, the animation during the fight is very him. It's sort of like the Kirby crackle effect and that's constantly
going and it's very, the animation during the fight is very fluid. It's very good.
Did you think it was funny?
Some of it.
Yeah. I think again, it is, it gets funny. I think it kind of settles in and the characters
kind of, when you learn more about them, I think Alan Tudyk is Dr. Phosphorus. Phosphorus
has some really good jokes.
He's also, if we can, I guess this is guess this isn't a spoiler because at the end of this first episode
or second episode they do Looking Ahead, the season of Creature Commandoes.
Alan Tudyk is also going to voice Clayface again, like he did in Harley Quinn.
Yeah.
But it's a different version.
Yeah, it's not the, whatever that one.
It's not the kind of the theatrical version. Yeah, it's not the it's not the whatever that what the kind of the theatrical theatrical version
Yes, that's I like that a lot. Um, apparently also to to look ahead episode James Gunn said episode 4 and 7 are his favorites
I don't know what 7 is but episode 4 deals with Weasel's origin
Okay, cuz he story in the Suicide Squad is that he killed 27 children or something like that
We're gonna reveal it was something. Probably somebody else. Yeah.
But I think that's interesting.
Because again, in the context of this show,
we've never seen him kill anybody.
No.
It doesn't really do anything.
No.
Yeah.
So I think the reveal is probably
going to be that he's a pretty harmless, doofus character.
Maybe he'll have his moment.
I think you'll probably kill a bunch of people.
We also see, yeah, there's also a very good action sequence between the bride of Frankenstein.
I was going to say, I really like that.
So Cersei's a Themyscarian.
Is that right?
No.
Amazonian.
Am I getting that wrong?
What am I doing?
I don't know.
I mean, I don't know if she, like in the comic books. I don't think she's Amazonian
This she definitely is or says that she is right. Uh-huh. Yeah
She is Amazonian in the in the in the TV series. Okay, there you go, but she's a sorceress
Yeah, and I and she fights
The bride and what I really liked about that is is they have a completely different power set
It's basically a science based monster who's super strong versus a witch. And I think that's more interesting than just
two people blasting each other with electricity or whatever.
Yeah, for sure.
Because they're both, you know, using their own skills and craft, which they've used over
the centuries because they're both very old.
Which isn't to say either of them isn't, you know, going to kick the other one in the crotch,
which they don't.
No, absolutely.
There's that element as well.
But no, I really enjoyed that.
And I think it's interesting what this also says about kind of the larger DC universe.
In that look ahead, you also see Superman at one point.
Just very briefly, he's like strung up.
It's like a potential future, I guess, of this universe.
But if there's a Themyscira or there's Amazonians,
no one's like, oh, like Wonder Woman.
Like there's no mention of that.
Right, okay.
I think Superman is going to be in it,
like maybe as an actual character, character, I think.
But like there's no mention of Batman.
So it's kind of, it gives some clues
about what's kind of going on, but not entirely. And also apparently James Gunn has said the Justice League doesn't exist yet.
So we'll get that down the line.
Yes.
In a Justice League movie, I assume.
Yeah.
But again, like we said, there are some nods to at least the Suicide Squad,
the starfish incident from that movie, which suggests maybe that Bloodsport did shot the David Curran sweat version of Superman. Maybe he did. Maybe he did. Yeah, maybe it did
Yeah, cuz he couldn't have shot the bloody Henry Keller version cuz he's too cool. He's too cool. Mm-hmm bounce right off him
That's right. That's right. Yeah, um, I'm gonna keep watching this
I mean obviously yeah, but I also enjoyed it. He does also while I'll keep watching. Yeah. Yeah
I think it probably is gonna grow on us. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't think again. I didn't think all the jokes landed
I didn't think all the
The too sexy for you was it's a pretty sexy and I yeah, I didn't think all the line reads were necessarily great
Yeah, but again, yeah, it's gone on me. Yeah. Also, I like Frank Grillo. He's good
How are they gonna come to terms with the fact that in Superman he's got black hair
and this he's got gray hair?
Are they going to come to terms with that?
I don't know.
God, what do we do?
Is he, so he has a main role in...
He has, yeah.
I can't remember.
He's an Argus guy or something.
I can't remember, something like that.
No, or he works for Mr. Cubes.
Right.
The guy flies around the Cubes.
Mr. Terrific.
Oh, right again.
Something.
I can't remember.
Okay, sure, sure, sure.
Maybe it's Argus.
No, it would be Argus. It would be-
They'll add a line in ADR where he's like, yeah, I dyed my hair black.
The most embarrassing thing a man can do. But I did it and I have to live with it
until the grey grows out again. Is it Argus he works for?
I don't know, man. I can't remember.
Yeah. Yeah.
All right, Mason. All right.
Let's move it along then. It's time to go. It's
not time to go. Okay, then it is time to go. What is it? It's what we read. Yes. What we're
gonna read. Yes. Yes. I'm doing the thing. What are we reading today? Wow, letter segment.
It's easy to reach the show. No, it's not. It's the what we're reading
segment. It's easy to do a what we're reading segment. It's where we talk about things we've
been reading or watching or doing or listening to.
It doesn't seem it's that easy.
No, I guess it's not that easy when you think about it.
So true.
What have you been up to and about?
Well, this week I watched, in addition to watching two episodes of New Disney Star Wars
and new episodes of Creature Shadows. I watched two episodes each of two
espionage tv shows that are both new. The Jackal was one of them. The Jackal was not one of them. So there's three out. I've watched most of the Jackal. I like the Jackal. It's great. I'll do
another time. Go on. I'm not finished yet. So I watched a couple of things which I'm sure most
people don't are unaware that exist. So I watched two episodes of The Agency, which is an American show.
And so this is a this is a series.
It's on your Tom Paramount Plus in Australia.
And I think it's on maybe Showtime in the US.
It's produced by George Clooney.
Well, it stars Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner Smith and Richard
Gere, what among other people?
What right and it's about Michael Fassbender and he's been in deep cover for six years away from his family
And now he's back in the US and all sorts of you have an American accent
Ish yeah, yeah, that's fast band anyway
Everything's bloody popping off and it's a huge all-star cast and nobody seems to know it exists, which is fascinating.
And it's good?
It is good.
Okay.
Yeah, it's good.
It's pretty thrilling.
Okay.
And fun.
Is it two?
Is it like there's only been two out?
There's only been two out currently, yes.
Well, I might wait till they release all 100 episodes.
Okay, terrific.
They did two that, yep.
Yeah.
So that's pretty good.
Yeah, okay.
What's the other espionage spy thing that you watch there's also on Netflix called black doves
Did you see that which one's that one? This one's it's here and nightly. Oh, okay. That's that one
So that one's fun as well. And that is so I kind of feel like this one unless it might be based on a
graphic novel or something like that, but I do not care to look it up, but it's a little bit Black Widow based on the name
only.
So it's about Keira Knightley is the wife of a politician.
But then it turns out that she has also been in deep cover for years.
She was recruited into a kind of a private espionage kind of company and brought in to
steal, you know, find any way to steal
some secrets.
And this was her first mission and she ends up marrying the guy.
Yeah, right.
Okay.
And Ben Wishaw, does he know?
No, he doesn't.
Yeah, that's right.
But now things are popping off.
Yeah, it sounds like it.
And Ben Wishaw, who of course people would know is Q from the James Bond, the most recent
James Bond movies and of course, The Voice of Paddington. He's playing like a remorseless, relentless killer. So sort of against type,
but that's a lot. I would say of the two, Black Doves is more fun. They're both kind
of, I mean, they're both a little bit grim, but I see there's a lot of fun banter between
Keira Knightley and Ben Wishore.
Good reviews on this Black Dove show.
Oh yeah.
It's fun I think.
Yeah.
You know.
I'm going to check this one out first I think.
Okay.
Oh Tracey Oldman's in it.
Oh.
Apparently.
Oh.
Have you seen them all?
The Black Doves?
No there's only two out.
On Netflix.
Oh wait no there's no way.
The whole lot is out.
I've only watched two.
I was going to say mate. Yeah mate. Yeah, bloody. Speaking of shows that are streaming.
I watched a show called.
The agency is based on Le Bureau de Legends, which is a French series.
Bureau of Legends.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah.
That's a bloody Bureau of Legends right here.
It's true.
There's a show, it's on Hulu in the US, but I think on Disney Plus Star, wherever you
are.
It's called English Teacher.
It's created by Brian Jordan Alvarez and he's about it.
It's a high school English teacher. Have you not mentioned this before? No, I might
have mentioned it to you specifically, but I don't think I mentioned it. Or maybe I mentioned it
briefly. Okay. But I like him a lot. So he plays a gay English teacher in, is it Texas he's in? I
can't remember. Something like that. Is it the United States of America? It's the United States
of America. And so it is this kind of thing of like, it's not one of those things where like, oh, the
students are so stupid and woke or whatever and the teachers or whatever.
It's like everybody's kind of trying their best and nobody's right or nobody's wrong
or some people are right and wrong.
You know, it's like this different perspective.
It's like life.
It is like life.
I see all sides just like this show.
It's also very funny.
I know people really like Abbott Elementary and I like Abbott Elementary.
I think this is much better.
The superior show.
Yes.
Interact.
I mean, they're both about high schools except no, Abbott Elementary is elementary.
It's a real the agency black doves kind of situation.
It is.
Isn't it?
Yeah.
Again, not to throw shade against Abbott Elementary, but I just really enjoy this.
I enjoy the cast of characters.
It's got that guy from Bloody Whatever in it, you know? Sure. Just shoot me. David Spade. The bald photographer guy.
Oh, Enrico Sanjurio. It's got him. It's just a lot of fun. And I really like, I've been watching
Brian Jordan Alvarez's stuff on like YouTube and whatever for years. He's done some really funny
skits over the years. He's that guy, and if you remember, he does an incredible Malburnian accent.
Yeah.
He's lifting heaps of weights, mate.
Yeah, that's right.
I've been lifting heaps, mate.
Yeah, I know that guy.
So just very charming and very fun and very silly, but you know, it's got its heartfelt
moments and all of that.
I just, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I think it's great.
And, you know, I used to be a teacher.
I don't know if you know that. I know that for me. I was like, this
is time for me. You got chased out of town. I got chased out of town. I karate kicks too
many other teachers. So true. I was doing it for the kids, though. You're doing it for
charity. No, it was like one of those Duncan booths. You got to karate chop. That's right.
Yeah. I also watched the movie Renfield for some reason.
I know why I did because...
Do you wish it was great, but it's not great?
Yeah, that's it.
Yeah.
That's how I felt about it.
It's like it's, you know, I think it has some fun elements to it.
At the end it's like, you know, developed by Robert Kirkman.
I'm like, yeah, I get it.
Okay.
Yeah.
I watched it because Nosferatu is coming out and Nicholas Alters is in that as well.
And I think I'm like, well, I should watch the other one as well.
And again, it is mostly fun.
He's more of a Jonathan Harker character.
Harker?
Yes, he's Nosferatu.
Nicholas Cage is Dracula.
He is doing very well as Dracula in that.
I just wish it was better.
Yeah.
I mean, it's so lightweight in the sense you get Ben Schwartz as a, you know, lovable Ben Schwartz as a, like a supposed to be a hardcore gangster type, you know, tattooed
neck and so on and so forth.
I do like Ben Schwartz, but I forgot he was even in that.
Yeah, so there you go.
Yeah.
Okay.
That's about it.
Have you watched Mythical Kitchen?
Is that like Good Mythical Morning?
No, it's a YouTube channel.
Is it like Mythic Quest? No, it's a YouTube channel. So like Mythic Quest?
No, it's nothing like that.
But they do the Last Meal series on YouTube where they get a celebrity in and they walk
through their last meal and they cook the last meal and everybody eats the last meal.
And then it's like a big interview type.
It's similar to, it's the Hot Ones of Ayn to some degree.
But I've been watching a bunch of that
I saw the Aaron Taylor Johnson Aaron Taylor Johnson episode that was watching. Yeah, I think so
I you know what I think that is that is the most genuine. I've seen him be I think
Because I don't know like I think something about him you think is insincere not really, but I think he sucks
No, I don't think that's true. I don't know.
I think when you see him in most things, he's adopting the persona of like a, a
movie star.
Okay.
Yeah.
He's got a kind of a movie star.
Hey.
Yeah, exactly.
Hey.
He's finger guns.
Hey.
But I think in this, when they-
I'm Tom Cruise.
Hey.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Tom Cruise is a movie star.
That is so true.
Isn't it?
Cause you know, in the Fall Guy, he's, he portrays that kind of true is that because you know in the fall guy he's he portrays that yeah
Ultimate movie star, you know very very but you're saying he does all that
He doesn't have a dough like he doesn't have that star factor. You think he's putting it on he's putting on a show
He's not really mr. Movies. Oh boring British nerd. No, I think he's I think he's done some good roles as we've talked about
But I don't think he doesn't have the it factor.
He's not a Glenn Powell.
That's what you're telling me.
I mean we won't know him until Craven comes out.
I mean we would know if you watched that eight minutes.
I imagine that's eight minutes of him proving that he is a movie star.
I think the bit at the end where he fights the guy who turns into a rhino was going to
solidify his movie star qualities.
I think so too actually.
And he was in Marvel movies at some point for one movie.
That's true.
Yeah.
And he was in fucking Christopher Nolan's Backwards Man movie.
Oh yeah.
He's good at that.
Is he?
Yes.
Yes he is.
Is anybody good at that?
What about that?
What do you remember?
I remember people yelling at each other on a boat.
Oh hell yeah.
Yeah. For sure. Yeah. boat. Oh hell yeah. Yeah.
For sure.
Yeah.
I should watch that again.
Give it another shot.
But anyway, Last Meals is good I think.
I think it's the similar premise of Hot Ones.
It's disarming the guests so that they, you see some real stuff.
Finally.
Exactly, finally.
But instead it's just like, here's all the stuff you would dream was in your last meal
of it, we've made it, it looks real nice.
It's beautiful, Mason.
It is beautiful, isn't it?
Should we do the letters segment?
I think we should do that.
Alright, let's do it.
Okay, let's do it.
Right now.
Like right now?
Yeah, give us a lead up though, give us a theme song you normally play.
Okay, I'll play it now.
The classic one was
Letters, oh letters, we love you.
Some letters, they're only a day away.
You know they're here right now, we're gonna do letters.
If you don't wanna reach the show, it's quite simple.
All you need to do is send a DM out
to weeklyplanetpod at gmail.com
or get on the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates group
where there's a threat every week.
So true.
And a threat every week.
That's right, what's the threat this week?
It says, I'll kill you guys, no reason.
So that's an interesting one
because there's no way they can really get out of it.
Because you haven't even said,
send an email. If you don't.
Yeah, if you don't send an email, I'll kill you.
You're like, I'm just gonna kill you.
So that's really interesting.
That's an interesting way to kick that off.
Agreed, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
What have you got in terms of letters this week though?
This is from Joe.
Joe?
Case of the sits. Okay. Hey James and M though? This is from Joe Joe case of the sits
Okay, James and my so having done a marathon Lord of the Rings session like you guys are currently subjecting yourselves to got me wondering
What kind of couches or chairs are you using?
Surely Mesa has to be equipped with the finest posterior perch for all of that rookie binging big fat lazy boys. Oh, yeah, brother
You know, sorry big fat lazy boys mark, ergonomic butt clouds like stressless
or beanbags, the middle aged man's quicksand. I have a normal couch. It's leather because
we have kids and then you can just wipe them down when they vomit. Wipe the kids down.
Yeah, and spill food into it and whatever. So it's not the most comfortable couch in
the world. They get more comfortable because they have softening up over time. But yeah,
I sit lengthwise and I watch.
I also have regular couch that I, you know what, sometimes I'll lean in, but a lot of
that time, especially towards the end, I'm leaning.
I'm lying.
The good thing about my couch is that it faces, like I'm not lying sideways looking at the
movie.
I'm lying straight ahead sort of and looking off to the side a little bit.
Does that make sense?
No.
Yeah, it makes sense.
Don't worry about it.
Okay, you should put a diagram in the great landscape.
No, I won't.
People can figure it out or they won't.
Nobody cares.
So that's what I'm working on.
And also I have a studio space where I've got another couch that I can also lie down
on and that one's an L-shaped couch.
I do love an L-shaped couch.
That one's not leather.
It's softer.
It's got a good feeling to it.
And you can lift it up and store stuff underneath.
That's so true.
Which I do.
Just mostly bones and rats and stuff.
Yeah. And you can lift it up and store stuff underneath. That's so true. Which I do. Just mostly bones and rats and stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah. I'm not a really, I'm not a lazy boy kind of...
I like being having a couch because then, you know,
you can have other people on the couch as well.
So true.
It's like, you know, it's good. Couches are good like that.
Yeah.
So true, isn't it?
Got any other couch related questions or should I do one?
You should do one, I think.
This one's from Jacob Hunsdale, who's a top contributor to the Pioneer
Procrastinary Arts Group. He says, with the upcoming DCU set to introduce You should do one. All right. This one's from Jacob Hunsdale, who's a top contributor to the Punipro Customs and Rights
Group.
He says, with the upcoming DCU set to introduce many never before adapted characters to modern
audiences, which character do you think will have the biggest impact in society?
Back in 2008, Iron Man went from a C-lister to an A-lister pretty quickly, so it's fair
to assume something like that will happen again.
My money is either on Green Arrow, Question or Plastic Man. What do you
think about that?
Oh, any DC character?
Yeah.
Or anything, presumably anything.
I think it's Booster Gold.
Okay. It's gonna have a, hmm, Supergirl?
Yeah, that's a minorish character I feel, isn't it? Not in the Trinity, you know?
That's so true. But yeah, I think that could, that's a good one character, I feel, isn't it? Not in the Trinity, you know? That's so true.
But yeah, I think that could, that's a good one.
Yeah.
Crypto?
The super dog?
Crypto the super girl.
Oh.
It's super girl's dog.
Huh.
It's also called Crypto.
I'm not doing anything with this, Mason.
No, no.
I mean, Crypto could conceivably sell a lot of toys.
Sure.
But didn't they do League of Super Pets and that didn't really go
That was bad though. No, it wasn't. It was alright. Okay, the Rock tried to hijack it on whatever
Yeah, he sure did. Yeah, uh, I mean green arrow might work
I mean they did green arrow for many years on that thing
but I mean that again that was
Green arrow by way of Batman because they couldn't do Batman
So that green arrow was more Batman
than green arrow.
What about Plastic Man then for you?
Uh, maybe?
You're a Plastic Man fan?
I'm not a not. Yeah.
Do you want to get like a Justice League United or like a different Justice League? You know,
the other teams, what are they called?
Justice League Unlimited.
Yeah, that's the one.
Maybe.
Like with just a bit of an odd bod team.
Or yeah, the Justice Society maybe yeah
Which we had actually um
The dr. Bell head well
I mean if they use if they do if they do got green arrows like champion of the oppressed as he kind of is in
Yeah, or like you know he's a he's a guy who's you know intensely critical of the rich because he used to be one
Yeah knows that they're all awful. Yeah, etc. That could I mean, that could. It just also might be too early for Green Arrow.
Yeah, no, you probably are.
To launch into, I mean, I can imagine him showing up
or just having him as like the front and center of something.
Yeah, but if we want an Iron Man style breakout.
Yeah, it would have been a Ted Cord.
I mean, we've already got a Blue Beetle.
Yeah, no, no, no, no, no.
No?
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
You talking somebody in an armored suit?
What are you talking about? No, I'm talking about just a character, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, is you like him. Hitman? Hitman. Is it Hitman? Who's the guy's Hitman? He's Hitman.
There's so many Hitman characters.
He's hanged out with Superman on the roof that time.
Oh, Tommy Onahan.
Yeah.
The Garth Ennis character.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, maybe. We've certainly had a lot of Garth Ennis success with the boys.
That's true.
So maybe, I don't know if he's on the slate to be anything.
Yeah. Detective Chimp?
Maybe Detective Chimp.
Batman?
Not Batman, no. That would never work.
Yeah, okay.
We can come back to it when they do it and then we can be like, we knew that.
We knew this the whole time, yeah.
Yeah, that's one of our favorite characters.
Yeah, yeah.
I reckon if, I mean, I really like that Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow comic book.
So I mean, if they adapt that well, I think people are gonna, because it might hit like
Harley Quinn has.
That's right like you know it's not everybody loves those movies but I think they love that
character I'm gonna say maybe booster gold okay because he's from the future
and it's fun and whatever yeah and that's my answer nice but it's probably
super girl okay this is an email from Rick Rick all of the dick Tracy talk okay
hello I've been a long time listen to the podcast I had started probably six
or seven years ago.
Must be nice.
I've thoroughly enjoyed your content.
We enjoy our content also.
Yeah, we're the best.
I do have a bone to pick with you though.
You two seem to be the only people who continually bring up the character of Dick Tracy.
Why two gentlemen from Australia...
No, we're not.
...are discussing an old American comic strip that hasn't been culturally relevant since the 90s is beyond me.
Why do I bring this up?
My name is Dick Tracy and I've been teased about it mercilessly throughout my life.
You should have gone with Richard Tracy, man.
Well, my name is really Dick Tracy.
Legally, it's Richard and I go by Rick.
I'm the third Dick Tracy in my family,
and my father, also Dick Tracy,
was actually a police officer.
I've attached a newspaper article
that was written by a local journalist
about the time of the movie as proof of these claims.
And he has, movie hype is Comical for Real Dick Tracy.
Why do you go by Richard Tracy?
I think he is. He's going with Rick Tracy.
He said Rick Tracy just sounds like Dick Tracy.
It does sound like that.
So does he hate Dick Tracy?
You should go by Dick Tracing.
When you trace your dick?
Yes, exactly.
What does he, does he hate Dick Tracy?
Doesn't seem that way.
He says, I've been toying with the idea of writing to you for some time now.
I've realized that much of the youth today has no idea who Dick Tracy is.
So that's good.
That's positive.
Yeah, you'll be fine.
In fact, I was working a part-time job once with a coworker who was about 10 years younger than me.
A patron of the store mentioned Dick Trace to me after I sang my name tag.
I would never forget how happy I was when my coworker asked, who the heck is Dick Tracy?
We should let him be forgotten for all his Dick Tracy's out there.
I was hoping that I could be the new official Dick Tracy of the podcast.
I mean, you'll have to refer to yourself as Dick Tracy. Exactly. Yeah, keep up the good work. No hard feelings.
Hey, we didn't do this to you. Sincerely Rick Richard Dick Tracy. I mean, that's a well, here's the thing though
Is that this this isn't quite like initially I'm like, well, here's the thing though, is that this, this isn't
quite like, initially I'm like, well, this is a little bit like Bart Simpson. It would
have been a bunch of people called Bart Simpson or Homer Simpson who were like living completely
normal lives and then the Simpsons hit and they're like, oh damn.
I'm bloody Homer Simpson.
But this is deliberate sabotage.
It absolutely is.
On behalf of your father.
They know.
They know, they would know who Dick Tracy was.
Yeah. Especially the cop who's Dick Tracy. He would have poured the brunt about his entire life.
Maybe he loved it and leaned into it and said this is something my son can lean into. Yeah,
that's right. Yeah. But I mean, that's the, you know, that's... I mean, you have a famous guy name.
Yeah, but not that famous. True. Like if my parents had named me Pink Floyd, that would be,
that would be much worse. Do you think they should have named you Pink Floyd? Maybe, maybe.
Or Twitch Streamer.
If my name, I mean, you know, again, the idea of Pink Floyd is sort of going by the wayside
now, but if they did name me Twitch Streamer.
Or Kaisernath.
Yeah, sure.
Yeah, yeah.
That's all good stuff.
I think it's all good stuff, actually.
Nick Mason.
That's me.
There's some Levi Guts who says, with everyone raving about Kraven.
Man, I'm Levi Guts right now.
You know it.
With everyone raving about Kraven, where does Sony go from here?
They've had plenty of, they've had pretty much, they had, they've had pretty much had
moderate successes to downright failures.
Do they keep scraping the bottom of the barrel of characters for solo movies or try team
up slash collaborations with Marvel?
Or do they just give up that would be fine, too
They have to do this. Otherwise they lose the rights. Yes, so this is not
them looking for a hit so much as
Just spinning their wheels at same to this sure is so they don't until the number
Until the next Tom Holland movie. Yeah, or the number they expect to get
From the release of these movies is less than the amount that they will receive like as long as that number is still positive
Yeah, they will still keep me making these movies. Yes, but uh, I don't even know what's next for them
Because this was the big spam. Yeah. Yeah, and I we don't know
Silver, I mean, I guess it would just be Tom Holland movies
I assume and they talked there's an's a rumor of an Agent Venom movie, which would be a different,
it would be Eddie Brock, it would be Flash Thompson or something.
I don't fucking know what they're doing.
But they have to keep doing it.
So yeah, like you said, when one line is higher than the other line on the graph,
then they'll stop or keep going depending on which line is which.
That's so true isn't it?
Yeah but no they can't be happy with this.
They shouldn't be.
They should be embarrassed.
Yeah.
Yeah.
What else you got Mason?
Ah, here's an email from Cam.
Cam?
Hi boys!
Hi Cam!
Will either of you be checking out the new indie game that we released this week?
I like, I play a lot of indie games you know.
Ah, well he means Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Yes, I will.
In April. He seems to be getting positive reviews and the story seems intriguing with links to Raiders as the opening Baldur scene looks to be playable
It is I think that's interesting and probably
Need it malicious. It's malicious and delicious. No, I think it's a good easing into the world
I suppose it is you get to play the Baldur say you get to play the Baldur scene
But I mean wouldn't you prefer a new adventure with Indiana
Jones?
I think the rest of the game is a new adventure.
Henry Indiana Jones Jr.
Henry Indiana Jones Dick Tracy Jr.
I know the rest is a new adventure.
I mean, that being said, I would play an Indiana Jones game, which is just a straight recreation
of all the movies.
Right.
But yeah, I think it's fine.
I think it's letting people know that like, this is a homage and yeah, I
understand why they did it, but, uh, I wonder if they got Alfred Molina
back to actually do it.
Probably.
I don't know.
It's not really Harrison Ford.
How do you feel about the new Harrison Ford?
I didn't love it initially, but I, the more I've seen of it, I like it more.
I think the idea was that it's not so much an impression.
It's more kind of a, it's more like mannerisms and idea was that it's not so much an impression, it's more
kind of, it's more like mannerisms and cadences.
He's got the rhythm on it.
Yeah, he's got the rhythm on it. Exactly.
And it's that kind of...
It wouldn't have been my choice, but I think he's got a good job.
Yeah, I've only heard some clips of it and it's all of him just doing that, the low volume
kind of like...
This belongs in a museum.
He's doing the...
I don't know about this Donovan.
I'm the...
I'm intrigued voice. He's not doing that. Exactly. That's exactly right
You're gonna play it
I'd have to get I'd have to get one of those systems
Yes, but I will get it in April when it comes in and place it that's from Hayden Clegg
Who says do you have any Christmas movies you watch each year? No, we did do a home alone to commentary
That's true enough. But uh, no you I don't have any
Traditional viewings. No, I'm always trying to catch up on content.
I'll watch a Christmas movie, Mason.
Yes.
You'll watch a love actually.
I mean, this is the era, this is the time for the debate of what constitutes a Christmas movie.
And the answer is nothing.
Okay, nothing.
So none of them count.
None of them count.
Okay, wow.
Yeah.
All right.
That's it.
It's actually crazy what you've said. Thank you. That means that everybody's Christmas movies is out by default. None of them count. None of them count. Okay, wow. Yeah. Alright.
That's it.
That's actually crazy what you've said.
Thank you.
That means that everybody's Christmas movies is out by default.
Yep.
Well, you probably upset a lot of people there.
Who's going to come after me?
Everyone.
That guy said he'd kill me for no reason.
Yes.
Yeah, he's going to do it anyway.
No, I mean, I'll watch Christmas movies and I'll watch them with my kids and whatever,
but...
Are you adding Red One to the rotation?
Red One is going nowhere fast.
It's a bad movie.
Go on.
Made by stupid people.
Starring nobody about nothing.
Interesting.
Yeah.
Wow.
Other than that it was alright.
Yeah it was fine wasn't it?
Yeah.
It was good for a fake movie.
I had fun for a fake movie.
Got one more?
I got one more.
Emile Jones.
Me too.
I'm gonna read it.
You should. I'm gonna read it. Why are you doing that? I'll one more email James. Me too. I'm gonna read it. You sure?
I'm gonna read it.
Why are you doing that?
I'll just quickly do this.
Okay.
Anne Diven says, who's a top contributor, says hello I started playing Prince of Persia
the Sands of Time on the PS3 because of James.
This isn't a question I just want James to know it's pretty good so far and thanks for
the recommendation.
You're welcome I love it's one of my favorite games.
They're also doing a remake at the moment.
Oh.
It's been long delayed.
Interesting.
But yeah I hope you're enjoying it.
It's probably the best of the trilogy but you know if you enjoyed enough it's worth long delayed. Interesting. But yeah, I hope you're enjoying it. It's probably the best of the trilogy, but you know, if you enjoy it enough, they're
worth probably playing through.
I would say so.
Here's one more email.
This is from Nick Williams.
Nick Williams!
Hey, Maceo and James, huge fan of the podcast.
You even inspired me to start my own podcast.
What's it called?
It's called Caps, Cows and Close Calls.
Very good.
But anyway, in your last episode, Maceo asked for some comic book recommendations, preferably
image or indie, which is true for Indiana Jones.
Indiana Jones comics.
Now for more sci-fi or supernatural, I have a couple of recommendations for you.
Extremity by Daniel Warren Johnson, great sci-fi fantasy epic that's set in a world
where people live on islands in the sky above a destroyed earth.
I think I've heard of that one.
Whoa.
The story focuses on the theme of revenge and how it can be all consuming.
Okay.
It's a great writer, Daniel Warren Johnson, writer and artist.
I think he's doing the Transformers comic.
He is and they're really good at the moment.
And second recommendation, Bitter Root, a supernatural story set in 1920s Harlem.
I know this.
So yeah, we've come up before and focused on a black family that specialise in demon
hunting.
The demons are white people who have been consumed by hate and racism.
We find out there is more than just those feelings that can turn someone, which I won't
spoil.
It's fantastic.
That was going to be adapted into a movie by Ryan Coogler.
But now he's doing that other movie.
That vampire something.
The Sinner, I think it's called.
Which is the other vampire.
So I don't know what happened there.
I don't know.
Yeah.
And I bloody know.
I don't know either.
Oh, the complete stories in a published by Image Comics.
Love to know what you think of them.
If you're such, check them out.
Yes. Thank you everybody. You send me some often on Twitter or there
about.
They DM'ing you?
People, I don't check any DMs anywhere.
No.
But people have sent some recommendations and I'm looking into them. I bought a couple
so I'll talk about them in a couple of weeks.
Out of 10?
Out of 10.
All your recommendations. If you had to rank all of them together.
Oh, I'd recommend them 11 out of 10.
Whoa. Yeah, they're so good. Wow. They're so good. How are you had to rank all of them. Oh, I'd recommend them 11 out of 10. Whoa.
Yeah, they're so good.
Wow.
It's so good.
How are you going to get through all this great content?
I'm not.
Okay.
They're going to pour it into my coffin after I die.
All the ones I bought but never read.
Sick.
They're just going to tip the pile.
In fact, I'd recommend that.
Can I borrow those though?
No, they're going in my grave.
Oh, come on, mate.
No, no, no, no.
You can buy your own.
You can take a video as they're going into the grave and note down all the good ones,
all the ones that have cool looking covers and stuff.
All right, I'll do that.
And then you can buy them on your own.
I'd rather you just give them to me.
I'm not going to.
You write a will.
I could forge your will.
I'll leave all my good comics to you.
Look, if you can do that.
I will.
I can and I will.
Okay, if you can do that, then if you can get away with it.
I'm going to snatch them out of your grave.
Wow.
Yeah.
Wow.
Actually rude.
I mean, I'll be like 90. Yeah. But I'll do it. Yeah. Wow. Actually rude. I mean, I'll be like 90.
Yeah.
But I'll do it.
Okay.
I suspect you'll attempt that and your ankles will cave in and you will join me in that
grave.
Mason, fitness makes me youthful forever.
And you know that about me.
That's actually true.
I could jump a fence.
Is that the show?
That is the whole show.
That's right.
We're about to jump some fences.
Yeah, we're going to jump a few fences.
Yeah.
That's wonderful.
Folks, thank you so much for listening.
We absolutely appreciate it. Thank you for telling your friends about the podcast because that is how we get new listeners.
And thank you for leaving a five-star review on your podcast app of choice.
If you do so, James will find it and you'll bloody read it out.
Got it right here, Mason.
Go on.
This one's from Jack Muffin who says, yum, two yummy men from Australia deliciously cover
all the hot news on a weekly basis.
Thank you, Jack Muffin.
Thank you, Jack Muffin.
And this one's from Drew Seifer, 1985.
It says, five stars.
Hey, didn't I already give you five stars?
No, where the hell did it go?
At least three years late, five star, a stahaz from a generic Midwest guy.
That's wonderful.
That's my favorite kind of guy.
Generic.
Me too.
Mine was, but now it's Jack Muffin.
Who I'm picturing as some sort of muffin and he's got his headphones and he's listening to a podcast
