Starting point is 00:00:00 When the secret is defiled, darkness awakens. Don't miss the new bone-chilling psychological thriller from Audible, Sacrilege! Curse of the Mbewi, starring Caleb McLaughlin of Stranger Things fame, delivering an electrifying performance. Sacrilege follows the story of the Wallace family, whose vacation to a luxury game reserve in Zimbabwe quickly unravels when Dash and Wallace, played by McLaughlin, unwittingly desecrates hallowed ground and unleashes the M'birwi, a vengeful entity born from centuries of colonial oppression. As possessed wildlife and shape-shifting horrors close in, Dashan must confront not only the supernatural threat but
Starting point is 00:00:38 also the horrors of his own past to save what remains of his family. Written and directed by the visionary creator Nyasha Hartendi and presented in spectacular Dolby Atmos, Sacrilege blends pulse-pounding suspense with powerful explorations of identity and privilege to deliver a thriller as thought-provoking as it is terrifying. We all have our demons. Listen to Sacrilege, Curse of the Mbui now. Go to audible.ca slash sacrilege, Curse of the N'Biwi, now. Go to audible.ca slash sacrilege. Welcome back everybody to another episode of the Weekly Planet where we talk movies and comics and TV shows. TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday. And with
Starting point is 00:01:18 me is always Mr. Sunday movies. It's my curse. You can use all these. These are free. These are free like I can use them station IDs or whatever if you want. I could use them. Mr. Sunday. It's free for you. Yeah. Okay. Cool. I mean, that one was pretty good. I think I'm going to charge you for that one. Okay. Well, cool. I'll definitely use it and pay you money. Thanks, man. Thanks, man. You don't have to use it. You can just pay me money. No, no, no, no, no. I insist. You're my good friend and you seem like you need it. You need a win and the money. That's true. Mason, we're a little bit late this week. Yes. Because I've been away on holiday for an hour and a half. That's right.
Starting point is 00:01:53 You've been in Fiji. I have been in Fiji. That is the dream destination of Dave Lister from Red Dwarf. It's true. Which counts, this is a Red Dwarf episode. This is our Red Dwarf episode. Yeah. That's terrific. Did you have a nice time? I had a great time. Yeah
Starting point is 00:02:06 There's no like jet lag really cuz only two hour time difference. I'm great. Look at me. You look tired I'm bad. Doesn't he look tired folks? No email in if you think he looks planet pot at gmail.com We were talking doctor who earlier but and we will this episode. Before the show started. There was, you know, there's that episode where David Tennant just tells the Prime Minister, he tells one of the Prime Minister's aides, doesn't she look tired? And then it like, it ruins her. It ruins her, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:36 It's unrelated though. Yeah. But you look tired. But I am tired. Oh, okay, interesting. Okay, right. Mason, huge news this week. Oh, huge news.
Starting point is 00:02:45 We've got first reactions to Fantastic Four First Steps. Huge reactions. Huge reactions. Wow. We also got a runtime for Superman. Oh, huge runtime? Yeah. Don't spoil it.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Don't spoil it. Some more maybe. We've got, including what might be its domestic opening. We're going to talk about what is Chris Hemsworth quitting the MCU, Mason? Has he put up a video that was like, I'm dying? I love being Thor. I love being Thor. It's a shame I'm dying of being Thor.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Well, speaking of Mark Hamill, maybe he won't come back as Luke Skywalker. What? We're going to talk about Doctor Who regenerating. I didn't know that was an option at all. That would be, yeah, you cannot do anything. It's true, you can, yeah. Technically. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:28 And then we've got trailers for Stranger Things Season 5. We've got Even Happier, Gilmore, Frankenstein, Knives Out 3. Plus we're going to talk about the crossover between Marvel and DC, the comics one that's happening. Oh. A skibbity toilet update. Thank God. And we're going to talk about the Australian horror movie.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Bring it back. Bring it back. Get it back over here. Bring it back. Bring it back. Bring it on. Backing up, mate. Yeah. I'm doing a bad job. Doing a bad job. Embarrassing. Time goes by.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Also, when we talk about Doctor Who, bear in mind, I haven't seen the current season of Doctor Who. I've only seen the clip. I've also only seen the clip. Okay, well we know what we're doing. The finale, yeah. But it's not like we didn't have to torrent it, just the BBC just released it.
Starting point is 00:04:11 It's on YouTube. It's on Twitter, it's on YouTube, it's whatever. They're like, you didn't watch this season? Well, surprise in your timeline. This happens. Right at the end. Exactly. Plus another person who shows up in it.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Anyway, next week also, we'd like to get ahead of it. We're going to be talking about the ballerina. That's true. And not the new Karate Kid movie because you said nah. I did say nah. I've heard nothing but bad things and I'm not invested in that universe and I don't care. And where's that lady, Hilary Swank?
Starting point is 00:04:39 Where is she? I don't know what Hilary Swank is doing. I saw an interview that, well, it's not really linked to the Netflix show even though it's okay but it's also and it's all and so it's linked to the movies mainly and I and the Jaden Smith one because the movie's linked to the TV show yeah and I saw an interview with the director and they're like is this is Jaden Smith credit kid in this universe yeah he's these fucking Mr. Miyagi's in this movie so I would say so right but that would mean he's probably not in the movie. Also, this universe is just Earth.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Yeah, it's just where we live, man. It's just a nice neighborhood. That's right. So anyway, back for that next week. Mason, let's start here. Let me ask you a question, though, James. I'm ready to answer any questions you have. Speaking of ballerina, do you think
Starting point is 00:05:21 there's a Disney Channel original movie called Ball Arena? That's about our young girl who's really good at ballet and she has to translate her skills to the basketball court. I think they're definitely something that was the reverse. So the boy is a boy basketball ball arena ball arena. Yeah, and of course, there's the movie Lady Ballers The Daily Wire Attempted comedy, right? Which I've seen some clips of. I don't know. I think if you make a comedy.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Mm hmm. Go on. I don't know. It should have all the hallmarks of a comedy. Not just kind of like the loose rhythm of it, but without jokes. And it sounds like a comedy to me. Anyways, Mason. Wait before we... Oh, do you know Lady Ballers was supposed to start as a documentary? And they're like, let's get a team of men.
Starting point is 00:06:10 Oh, I see. And say that they're trans. Right, okay. And then we put them in with a basketball league and it wasn't possible. Because it's like, yeah, because nobody's doing this. No one's trying to do this except for fucking freaks at the Daily Wire. Yeah, yeah. It's not a real like, terrible fucking thing that's happening that's sweeping sports.
Starting point is 00:06:28 And obviously you're trying to undermine the sport deliberately. Yeah. Anyway, before we get to the next segment, we need to put in the sting. Mr. Sunday movies. Whatever it was. Will that cost me? Yeah. What did it cost me?
Starting point is 00:06:43 A lot. A lot. I'll send you an invoice. I can't wait. Because you won't do that. Anyway, that's that cost me. Yeah, what did it cost me a lot a lot a lot? I said in voice I can't wait cuz you might do that anyway. That's it anyway. That's that's that segment done mr. Sunday movies Yeah, sorry But not sorry Reactions to the fantastic for first steps Mason ice has been said for by a few people online some of the words were meh Okay, cute fun and geeky. A lot of that. But then there's been a bit of like backlash to that. I feel meh is pretty, that's pretty extreme.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Yeah, I agree. One of the attendees said, I said, anonymous anonymously, I've been seeing a lot of reporting on anecdotes and facts that I recognize as my own. The test screening attendee wrote, I want to debunk, oh, this is by comicbookmovie.com, I want to debunk some misinterpretations I've heard. No one screamed out mid in the audience. There was a guy next to me. No, that makes me think that somebody yelled out mid. There was a guy next to me, sighing and flapping his hands around
Starting point is 00:07:37 when the movie was over, asked him his opinion and he said it was mid. I heard a lot of excellence. James, slow down on these reactions, man. We got a man sighing and flapping his arms. Like a bored chicken in the audience. That's right. It sounds like a guy who's just there
Starting point is 00:07:51 for attention on himself. Well, I don't have the person in front of me, but I read like a reaction, somebody talking about reactions and how a lot of people who attend these test screenings, they're kind of able to figure out what it is beforehand. So it's, you get a lot of fans going in or people who hate this stuff, and then they get a chance to influence.
Starting point is 00:08:11 I wish I had the person in front of me, but it's lost on, I can't, I'm not going to navigate Twitter. I'm just not going to do it. It is quite late at night. Yeah. And it's awful. And I'll never find it. It doesn't work.
Starting point is 00:08:21 It's probably not working right now. Every search engine in the world is broken. That's right. And basically it's like, well, because the process is skewed because you're getting people in who are like true fans. Or people who want to undermine it. Yeah. Or people who are just like, this is my chance to make a mark and change a movie.
Starting point is 00:08:35 What they should do is they should do 50% obsessive fans and 50% people who want to undermine it when we see who wins. Agreed. Maybe that'll result in the perfect movie. That's right. That's also the demographic of this podcast as in me and you. So true, isn't it? Mason.
Starting point is 00:08:52 So yeah, he said, what was the other thing he said? I heard a lot of excellence, the highest rating on the survey. So there you go. We don't know. It's early. We don't fucking know. People lifting their little cup of tea with a pinky out going, excellent. Excellent film.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Apparently also Marvel have no also the MC will have no presence at Comic-Con this year but there is there's gonna be a lot of Marvel stuff in general and probably a booth of Fantastic Four etc a booth of Funko Pop certainly no definitely but of course it's going up against Superman that's true which opens two weeks before yes this is why Rock Reigns though who says this is what's happening. Once again slow down. Slow down James. What do you want me to do? Rock Reigns? This is what they're telling me. Is that a man? I guess. I want to see what Rock
Starting point is 00:09:36 Reigns looks like. Is he also a wrestler? Is he an entertainment reporter who's also a wrestler? No Mason because we know that. Let me tell you about some reactions to Superware. Let me tell you about the running time. Okay, Rock Rains, don't hurt me. Yeah, Rock Rains looks like this. Interesting. That's throwing me for a loop, honestly. But also the pictures. That's a wrestler. Unless this is not... I think none of that is real. I think he's exactly as I've pictured him.
Starting point is 00:10:10 You're probably right. What was I saying? Something fantastic. I was talking about stuff, wasn't I? Superman. Yeah. Apparently the Superman movie is projected to make between 154 to 175 million domestically. Not bad.
Starting point is 00:10:23 But it could go high as 185. This would be the highest DC opening ever. If this is the case, even including old school movies, including the movie, old school, that's correct. I mean, inflation adjustment, et cetera. No, I'd imagine. So, you know, that's, I mean, I don't know. It's, I mean, I'm excited for it.
Starting point is 00:10:44 But I don't, I don't know anything. I don't know what anything's going to'm excited for it. We're hoping. But I don't know anything. I don't know what anything's going to be anymore. Not that I ever did. It's more confusing than ever. James, don't admit it. Oh, yeah. Go to another segment. Mr. Sunday Movies.
Starting point is 00:10:54 I don't know what I'm doing, Mason. No. And that was the segment James doesn't know what he's doing. James has a very small existential crisis for five seconds. Anyway, on to the next segment. This is Only Movies. We talked about Mission Impossible last week. Yeah, it's doing better than expected. Yeah, yeah, so I don't know. It's...
Starting point is 00:11:15 The hype built, I guess it did... the last one did well on streaming. It's a good movie. So it made... it's good that good movies do well. Yeah, so that's fun. But apparently the reported runtime for Superman is via DC Film News is two hours and two minutes. It's going to be around that. Or it might even be a lock at this point, which is relatively short for something like this. But that also means you can go in more cinemas
Starting point is 00:11:38 because you can run it more times a day, and et cetera, and so forth. Which is good if it's opening in the summer, the the northern hemisphere some kind of thing knock out a few screenings of Superman throwing a megalopolis at the end bring that back into cinemas god now that was a movie undoubtedly I mean a movie and a film I was gonna say it's not a movie it's a film but it's a movie and a film does both does an experience yeah and it's like being in a lava lamp. Just like if you were trapped in one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Oh. Yeah. John Voight was there. John Voight was there and he should check out the boner he had. But it wasn't a boner. It was a little bow and arrow. It was a little bow and arrow, wasn't it? That's right.
Starting point is 00:12:19 And then somebody would have been shot in the bum and then there was a weird, probably a weird scene transition. Yeah. Just like a 1970s Star Wars, like a rainbow wipe or a star wipe or something. And then Shyla Buffs there. Yeah. Great stuff. Hell of a movie slash film.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Oh, oh. How do you feel about the two hour, two minute runtime? Tight. That is tight. Brisk. Yeah. I reckon it's going to be a crack and pace. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:12:44 I think you don't want to... It makes sense, I think, to introduce this universe to the wider audience because obviously it's already started with like Creech Commandos and I guess it's The Flash or whatever's real, Mason. Wait. Segment transition. Mrs. Huddy movies. You're back into your existential crisis. No, this is my... I'm killing it. Oh, you're doing really well.
Starting point is 00:13:04 I'm killing it now. It's great doing really well. I'm killing it now. It's great. That's what you're doing. The caffeine has kicked in. I'm not drinking caffeine. You're not. I'm having a bad time. You're hallucinating. I'm not killing it. You're not killing it at all. No, I think it's good because you don't want some drawn out epic fucking whatever.
Starting point is 00:13:20 It's like... It is what it is. Also, James Gunn has come out and he said this. He's about Fantastic Four. They came out to a week. They come out two weeks after us. There's room for us both. I love my friends at Marvel. You can find whatever discussions you want to find online.
Starting point is 00:13:34 I'll focus on all the positivity around the films instead of getting sucked up into online fan wars. Nice. Get into the movies, everybody. I love to love the movies. I love the movies. So there you go. I mean it makes sense. He's still got a you still got a foot in Marvel and whatever and you know what I mean? Well, he wants to put his bloody foot in Marvel because they fired him that time Yeah, they did but then he came back. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway speaking of is Chris Hemsworth leaving the MCU Mason. No, no Anyway, this is a statement he made, which I think was his post.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Because he loves $50 million. He loves being in it and getting $50 million. Yeah. And they bring it back and they give him $50 million. And he gets another $50 million. He gets $50 million. He said, playing Thor has been one of the greatest honours of my life. The last 15 years I've held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder. But what made it truly special was sharing it all with you. Me? No. Oh.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Everybody, not just you. I think he said, yeah, he didn't name you personally. No, but it would include me. No. Also, I think what made it truly special was getting $50 million. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like multiple times. That would have been really good.
Starting point is 00:14:40 You know, I've loved spending time with my kids at Myron Bay, but I also love $50 million. And I think it's time to pick up that hammer or whatever I had last time and stand on a green box in a green room and raise that axe or hammer or whatever that I had and hold it up and say something about Odin or whatever. And then they'll give me 50. They're going to put in a different color eye contact because I got my eye pulled out of one but no I'm not doing that. I'm not doing that. I'm gonna stand on a green box in a green room in my shorts and t-shirt and they're gonna add all the Thor to me and then they're gonna give me a 50 million dollars. And I say good on you boys.
Starting point is 00:15:21 You're back in your juice and your love for this character have meant everything to me. Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable. Also he says next up- Did you say unforgettable? Unforgettable? Is that what he said? I did. He said unforgettable.
Starting point is 00:15:36 And then he said next up doomsday. So yeah, he's got to be at least in doomsday and probably make another Thor movie. There's rumour that he wants Sam, is his name Sam Hargrave? The guy- No, he's he's gonna be at least in doomsday and probably make another Thor movie beyond is rumored that he wants Sam His name Sam Hargrave the guy no, he wants $50 million. Okay, that's what he wants You know the extraction movies it's Sam Hargrave directed those Sam Hargrave Yeah, I can't wait to sit in a room in my compound in Byron Bay that they've painted green temporarily stand on a green box. Temporarily. That's right.
Starting point is 00:16:07 And hold the dumbbell that I was already lifting and they'll green screen it out and put in a hammer and axe or whatever. And they'll take a single photo of me and then they'll make that Thor for the movie. And then I'll get a $50 million. Also, like, he's not, I mentioned I was just in Fiji. We went past an island at one point. And it was one, there's an island like Google owns. And the guys on the boat were like, yeah, Chris Hemsworth is like literally there right now. All the kids like freaked out, obviously, even though we couldn't see him. He's a long way away. And if we went closer, we'd be killed. by the Google guys. Yeah, it's by the Google guns
Starting point is 00:16:49 So get back to fucking England Chris Hemsworth. He's there for a month apparently He's rich. Yeah, you're supposed to be filming Avengers doomsday. Well. He doesn't need to be because they took that photo In his compound in the room in the green screen. Yeah, he's dumbbell. They've done it and filled they're gonna fill the rest in With with not with AI no overworked visual effects guys goodness. Yeah, I was gonna do his voice Yeah, good. Yeah, that's good and fun. It is good and fun This is why comicbook com mark Hamill talked about returning as Luke Skywalker. He said I'm so grateful to George For letting me be part of those back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars the most expensive low budget
Starting point is 00:17:29 movie ever made. I would have called it Star Wars. Well, he did eventually. Eventually, probably his wife told him to do it. Yeah, probably. She did fix it in the editor apparently as well. Coming this summer, the most expensive low budget. Just call it Star Wars, George. Okay. Okay, dear. Yes, dear.
Starting point is 00:17:46 We never expected to become a permanent franchise and part of pop culture like that, but my deal is I have my time. I appreciate it all. I appreciate a lot of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters. Agreed. But if Dave Filoni wants me to stand in a green room on a green box with a green glove on my hand, green glove, and then I'm holding up the cup of coffee that I brought in from
Starting point is 00:18:11 on the way in and I hold it aloft. And if they want to take a single photo and then turn me into Luke Skywalker in his prime, stand me next to the Mandalorian or have to do a flip and whatever. Yeah, then I'm there. He would, wouldn't he? Yeah. I don't think he's done. I know, but I also just don't think the character, maybe he is, but I doubt it. But the character is also not, we're going to see him again.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Yeah. I think he's going to ride a skateboard. We need, yeah, we need to be done. We need to be done with the Luke Skywalker. Not the Luke, I'm fine with more Luke Skywalker, but I'm, we need to be done with this dead eyed Luke Skywalker 3D model. Until they get it right. Until they get it right.
Starting point is 00:18:49 They're going to keep going until they get it right, Mason. But as like, we've talked about this, my theory is that- No, I don't want it. I hate it. My theory is that they don't, they don't want to have another star. Yeah. They don't want to bring in a guy to play Luke Skywalker and he's a hit with the fans and then they have to do it's Luke Skywalker TV series and then they bring it back to the
Starting point is 00:19:06 movies and blah blah blah and he gets fame and money and etc. They just want the character. Yeah, they just want a character as a 3D model they can whip around. Yeah, right. And it's it's it. I hate it. Yeah, I don't like it because he's the guy who plays Luke Skywalker at the moment. Don't know his name exactly.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Yeah, but he looks pretty much like. Yep, he does. And they've and that's the thing though, you know They've all they've talked about Sebastian Stan and all that sort of stuff and again cost money because money. Yeah, he's expensive Yeah, not 50 million dollars probably not. No. Anyway, there you go. Star Wars is always happening, isn't it? Sure is isn't it? Yes. We're back to cowboy hat Star Wars, which is my favorite stars. No, it isn't correct Mason that caffeine is really getting to you that caffeine you didn't take I agree We're back to Cowboy Hats Star Wars, which is my favorite Star Wars. No, it isn't. Correct. Mason. That caffeine's really getting to you, that caffeine you didn't take.
Starting point is 00:19:49 I agree. Let's talk Doctor Who. This is spoilers. Okay, this is spoilers for Doctor Who. Once again, we've not seen this current season. I watched the previous season and I enjoyed it. Yeah, I watched the first couple maybe, which I did enjoy also. The last one I watched was the hotel something something which I like
Starting point is 00:20:05 And I really I did really liked shooting out as doctor who I thought he was a good doctor Who and you might be like his name isn't doctor who well sometimes it is yeah That's right. They changed it where his name is sometimes doctor who would knock the doctor Whose they will never tell it's not important, but they did they did it in an episode I don't know if you remember. They might have. Yeah. No, they did. Oh!
Starting point is 00:20:27 I've seen it. Oh! Anyway, Johnny Whitaker comes back for a little bit. I saw that. You're great. You're the doctor. I'm the doctor. I love you. That happens. Sure, yep. That happens and that's cool.
Starting point is 00:20:38 And then at the very, very end, he regenerates. Yes. And he regenerates into Rose Tyler or something. James, he regenerates into Billy Piper's character from Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Oh my god. Yeah, that's right. That's cool. It is cool, I think.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Billy Piper also came back for the doctor anniversary thing where she played a sentient weapon and spoke to John Hurt or something. Did she? Yeah, do you remember that? Nope. It's true, it happened. Okay, terrific. It was in a movie thing that also was on the TV. spoke to John Hurt or something. Did she? Yeah, do you remember that? Nope. It's true, it happened.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Okay, terrific. It was in a movie thing that also was on the TV. But anyway, people, the internet's a flame with theories and etc. I think the internet's a flame with like, this seems desperate and like they don't know what they're doing. And it does feel a bit like that because it works with the tenet. We work with Tenet. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:21 And so they're like, oh god, I'm really piper or whatever. But you had an interesting theory. Well, I mean Mason's interesting theory on mr. Sam There also yeah, I'm here. That's right. I'm building off the brand. Yeah. Yeah, it's good spin off. Yeah Well, my understanding is that shooting up was was gonna do three seasons and he's done two. Yeah, but then And again, I don't know. I don't know any of the numbers but a lot of this and this and Doctor Who scoopers that seem to know a lot that said we've picked up a lot of you know, internet chatter and
Starting point is 00:21:53 rumors about the show and a lot of them have turned out to be right. Yeah. And the the the the theory seems to be that they don't know if Disney are going to continue to produce the series and pay for the excessive, the much larger scope of the series that's been since they have done this co-production with the BBC. So the future of it is in doubt a little bit. With Disney and potentially with the BBC, like are they going to give the show a rest or something like that?
Starting point is 00:22:24 Are they going to give it a rest till 2026 or 2027? So my understanding is that perhaps Shudigarba wants to do other stuff because he's an actor in demand and maybe wants to do movies or you know move on if there's going to be this significant break. Yeah. So this might be a reshoot. Like apparently're this the season wasn't gonna end like this Were they gonna bring in another person to regenerate or they decided the whole region regeneration is new apparently Oh, that's all things a ratio. I was just gonna it was just gonna carry on as as normal I'm gonna carry on as normal. I suppose
Starting point is 00:23:02 I suppose But my guess is they just went What I mean if the current if the actor playing the current actor playing the doctor is gonna leave Yeah, suddenly they wouldn't have another actor ready to go. Yeah, so what do they do in the meantime? They feel they do an intriguing thing. Yeah, I do the what worked with David Tennant They just go who's a face that people will go. Oh my god I recognize that person what's happening here and they put her in the bit and do they even know what's next? Potentially maybe now. Yeah, but like not maybe maybe placeholder. Yeah, like when maybe gut was agent was like Yeah, he's probably not gonna come back for the next one They're like, ah, what do we do? What can we think of? Here it is now later. We'll figure it out
Starting point is 00:23:50 Yeah, absolutely. So I mean potentially Because Rose Tyler in the show at one point she was connected to the heart of the TARDIS. Did that happen? Yeah, maybe something like that. She's also in another dimension or something There is a version of her in another dimension, right with a with a non Yeah, with a non-Galifrayan doctor. With a human David Tennant, yeah. This is our famous segment too, guys, who don't really watch Doctor Who a lot, talking about Doctor Who. With authority. Yeah, from ten plus years ago. That's right, yeah. When this happened. Or like, maybe this is, maybe he didn't regenerate into a version of Rose Tyler. Maybe they swapped places.
Starting point is 00:24:25 And then also they could bring him back. They could bring him back if, you know, if David Caruso style, he decides to, he attempts to go into movies and then it doesn't work. He's like, well, I better come back. Then yeah, they can just be like, yeah, he swapped places with the actual Rose Tyler, et cetera. So there's really kind of no thrill in, I feel like the thrill is definitely wearing off, like bringing just previous Doctor Who's back now,
Starting point is 00:24:48 because now it's expected. Like when you leave Doctor Who, you don't ever really leave now. But I mean, they never- If you're alive, you'll come back. Yeah, they never really left though. I mean, Doctors, you know, returning and teaming up again with sort of fairly standard practice for a long time.
Starting point is 00:25:00 That's a good point, Mason. Mm-hmm. That's a good and great point. That's right, and I said it with authority. Yeah, that's right. Which is all this segment is about. It's authority. That's a good point Mason. That's a good and great point. That's right and I said it with authority. Yeah that's right. Which is all this segment is about. It's authority. That's right. And everybody should listen to Mason. That's right. No matter what he says he's always right. Mason's theories is about the thing. Always with Mr. Son of Movies this as well. Cool! Anyway I look forward to them figuring this out. Me too. Yeah whatever this looks like. Mmm. Do you reckon they'll ever get Eccleston back? I know he's done audio books. He has done audio books, but my understanding is
Starting point is 00:25:29 that he was very poorly treated on the TV production side. So he's happy to work for the audio people because they're very nice. Yeah. Big Finnish audio types. Yeah. Also, that's the thing as well, even if Shudy Guttwa does leave, he'll come, he'll probably come back for the audio dramas. He'll come back for a guest spot. Yeah. You know, etc. So, you know. Yeah, I know. He's got little outfits and that's great. He's got so many little outfits, I appreciate it that he was, he's the one doctor that's,
Starting point is 00:25:53 because he's got, like we saw in one of the, I think probably the tenant era, he's got a, like he's got a giant warehouse full of clothes. Why doesn't he just, why doesn't he switch over? Why is he wearing the same smelly old suit for years? I think it's good. Yeah, you would, you smelly old freak. I take some of that back. Which part?
Starting point is 00:26:15 I don't know. You can pick one. Old. I'll take smelly freak. Okay. Yeah. Oh, also it's interesting that I've I bought I this is overthinking all of it But I always think it's fascinating Sometimes the doctor regenerates and his clothes change and sometimes he really doesn't yeah So in this he's wearing a skirt because yeah, that's the aesthetic
Starting point is 00:26:38 Yeah, the of the character kind of look at the character kind of wears whatever he wants kind of thing Which is convenient because any mm switches over to Rose Tyler So she's wearing women's clothes, but when? Jodie Whitaker switched to David Tennant. They didn't do it He changed the clothes change because I think they were like well We can't have much if he was wearing a woman's clothes who which also is really Yeah, I imagine he showed up and he was dressed like a walk from Mork and Mindy which is how Jodie Whitaker dresses Yeah, I imagine he showed up and he was dressed like Mork from Mork and Mindy, which is how Jodie Whittick addresses
Starting point is 00:27:11 They're like we cut that would be an embarrassing return if he was dressed in this so we'll just have him regenerate as his regular clothes Yeah, I could be you know, mmm. Well, what a what a no era we live in. Yeah nonsense Yeah, nice and Charles ahoy and it's boring and it's established this But it's a it's a it's a dumb time. That's also boring And it's boring. We've established this. Yeah. It's a dumb time that's also boring. It's the children of main universe. It is.
Starting point is 00:27:29 Everything's ending, but we all still have to go to work. Trailer's ahoy. The trailer has to go to work. Welcome back trailer. Let's do a few of these. Okay, let's do a few trailers. Stranger Things Season 5. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:39 A lot of clips of things that previously happened. That's right. That's nostalgia, baby. Within nostalgia. Yeah. I mean, speaking of nostalgia lot of clips of things that previously happened. That's right. That's nostalgia, baby, within nostalgia. Yeah. I mean, speaking of nostalgia, this started in July.
Starting point is 00:27:50 Ooh, someone in the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates group. 2016, this started. Released, put up a post about all the stuff that had come out in between the last season of... Yeah, which was 2022. And I know one of them was Andor started and finished. Started and finished, yeah. Which is crazy.
Starting point is 00:28:09 It is crazy. What are we talking about here? I don't have the list here, but it's like most seasons of The Bear. Yeah. Oh, here we go. This is from Mike Smart. I'm Mike. Planet Broadcasting Grandmates. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:28:22 These TV shows have released since the previous season of Stranger Things. The Bear season two, The Bear season three, The Bear season four. Only Murders in the Building, two, three and four. Damn. Flyshman is in Trouble, Shogun, Alien Earth, Mandalorian season three, Ahsoka the Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, Bad Batch season two and three,
Starting point is 00:28:37 Andor season one and two, X-Men 97, Secret Invasion, Echo, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Agatha all along, Daredevil, Born Again, Ironheart, What If season 2 and 3, Loki season 2, Slow Horses seasons 2 through 5, Severance season 2, Ted Lasso season 3, For All Mankind season 3 and 4, Shrinking season 1 and 2, Monarchs, Silo season 1 and 2, Masters of the Air, Murderbots, Foundation season 1, 2 and 3, Damn. Reacher season 2 and 3, The boys season four, this just keeps going. It's long.
Starting point is 00:29:06 Damn. Wow, there's so many. That's nuts. That's entertainment, isn't it? What is going on here? Why do they take so long? I don't know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:13 But it's also, I don't know if you saw this, but it's an interesting release schedule. It is. So it's eight episodes. There's gonna be four on November 26th, and then three on Christmas Eve, and then the finale on New Year's Eve Yeah, yeah, some people have said that's a bad release schedule and I kind of agree
Starting point is 00:29:29 But also I think that kind of that could work for a lot of hype Well hype but also like I don't know what your Christmas days are like probably arguing. Yeah I'm arguing in the mirror, but you blew it again James you stupid idiot Yeah, everyone's upset. You smelly freak. Everyone says you're a smelly freak. That would say you're old. They say you're a youthful smelly freak. But you know, kind of like, everybody has a big meal for lunch. And then you just go, and then somebody would probably go, hey, Stranger Things is on. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:30:01 You can watch Stranger Things. The new episodes are out or whatever. So I think that could do them very well, really. Okay. You have to think about it as well. I thought all of these kids were like older now, but like the oldest is like Caleb McLaughlin of the original book, Loughlin, who's 23 and the rest of like 2021. All right. I joke, Keery, what's he like fucking 40?
Starting point is 00:30:20 He's 33. Yeah, I mean, Millie Bobby Brown got yeah. He's 33. Um, yeah, I mean Millie Bobby Brown got married. That's true. Right, gets there. She's done two bloody Enola Holmes movies. Enola Holmes movies and that one about a dragon. Electric State as well. A good movie.
Starting point is 00:30:34 Yeah. Film, sorry. It can be a movie and a film. It can be a movie and a film. But it's not. Yeah. I mean I know. It's content.
Starting point is 00:30:42 I think Stranger Things is generally good. Yeah, I think so Yeah, my son was one when this came out Some would say it's riding on the success of the past of the of the first season which was sort of you know a largely Harmless, I thought the last season was pretty strong. I think this all some of them have been quite strong I think that for the most part. I'm like I enjoy these characters. Yep when I remember them. Yeah Yeah, I'm like what happened again. I enjoy when Joe Keery and Maya Hawke get up to some shenanigans. Eddie. Eddie was there. And he's famous now. He's famous now. He wasn't famous then and now he's famous now. He's done 200 movies. He was in Gladiator. He's been in two movies with Pedro
Starting point is 00:31:18 Pascale. Yeah, that's right. He's been in Stranger Things as Eddie. Stranging Things. Yeah. Yeah, and that's good. Yeah. Anyways, that's coming out of one of the reasons and times that we said. Then we got Even Happier Gilmore. That's right. Which is just called Happy Gilmore 2. I mean, it's a lot of like, remember this?
Starting point is 00:31:37 Sure is. So it features, interestingly, the sons of two people who died in real life. So Carl Weathers' son turns up who also has a wooden hand and Richard Keele's who died in real life, so his son. I don't think he's real. Also has a jaws mouth? Yeah, apparently or something. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:31:56 There's also a moment where he's like, you eat pieces of shit for breakfast and whatever. How would you remember that? I mean, it's such a throwaway moment. It's an iconic joke, but I don't think you'd remember that? I mean it's such a thrum away moment. It's an iconic joke. But I don't think you'd remember that necessarily. Anyways. What? No, I reckon if you burn somebody that good, I reckon you might remember.
Starting point is 00:32:16 I guess you would. Yeah, so Shooter McGavin. I do like Shooter McGavin, but I can't remember the access name. What is his name? I can't remember. I like Shooter McGavin, the sandwich shop in Melbourne. Oh yeah, is it good? What do they serve? Sandwiches.
Starting point is 00:32:27 Oh yeah. What types of sandwich? You like a Cubano? What's a Cubano doing? It's like a ham and pork and cheese and mustard. Christopher McDonald. Okay. Yeah. Oh, Ben Stiller's in it. Oh, bad bunnies in it.
Starting point is 00:32:37 It's caddy. Bad bunny. I didn't recognise him. Apparently this is according to Google. So do you like a fish and chips sandwich, James? No, I'm not doing that, man. I'm not an animal. I love a fish and chips sandwich. James? No, I'm not doing that. I'm not an animal. I love a fish and chips sandwich.
Starting point is 00:32:46 What are you putting on that? Fish and chips. Fish and chips? Yes. Like a piece of fried fish. Potentially. Like battered fish. Sometimes.
Starting point is 00:32:55 And chips. Sometimes. And butter. Yeah. And ham. No. What's wrong with you? Ham.
Starting point is 00:33:02 You've made that last one up to defame me, James. I would never, I won't. This comes out July 2025. Get ready for it, Mason. Also I think the answer to your question there is the unspoken question, James, of why they put these actors in who portraying characters, the sons of characters who died. I mean, I know why. Because the script had them in it before they died and they're just like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Yeah, fair enough. The director of this did, he worked on workaholics. He worked on murder mystery, the first one, which is the one where Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anderson, et cetera, and so forth. Yeah. So there you go. Man, this guy seems like himself a workaholic. Under murder mystery.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Wow. Yeah. Do you think so? Yeah, because he died what this yeah. Oh, yeah That's that Adam Sandler killed him. Did he? Yeah, isn't he supposed to be nice? Well, he's not not to everybody. Okay Yeah, he murders Frankenstein's also gonna try that's Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, which is to Closely resemble the book because in it dr. Frankenstein Dr. Frankenstein, he goes on the run, he's like, I can't have this fucking Frankenstein coming after me all the time,
Starting point is 00:34:10 I want to get out of here. And then Frankenstein tracks him down and is like, I'm angry about it. Do you know what I'm talking about? I actually don't. I don't. I don't know what you're talking about. Pleased to meet you though. That's right.
Starting point is 00:34:24 Oh, your name's right. Yeah. Oh, your name's Frankenstein too. Perhaps we're related. But this is in fact the first time we're meeting. Yes, that's right. So it's Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Bellordi. Australia's Own. Australia's Own.
Starting point is 00:34:38 Mia Goth is in it. Seems like a Mia Goth kind of movie, doesn't it? I don't know what her deal is. Yeah? Yeah. Maxine, etc. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah't it? I don't know what her deal is. Yeah. Yeah. Maxine, et cetera. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:46 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, I don't like it. You don't like it? That's fine. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:34:53 It doesn't seem like a vibe at all is what I'm saying. No? Those are all like, you know, there's, there's, there's a modern one and there's one set in the 60s or whatever. Oh yeah. Okay. Yeah. I just only saw the first one.
Starting point is 00:35:03 Yeah. Um, I love the look of this. I mean, it's a shame that it's going to streaming. Okay. Yeah. I saw the first one. Yeah. I love look at this. I mean, it's a shame that it's going to streaming. It's gonna be November of 2025. But, you know, let's see what's going on with Frankenstein. It's been a while. Time for some more Dark Universe shit, man.
Starting point is 00:35:15 Oh, hell yeah. We're gonna do a Dark Universe video. Like, caravan again. We can squeak some out this year, Mason. So, drag your own told and that's it. I, Frankenstein. Was that was it Fassbender or was it Aaron Eckhart? No it was Aaron Eckhart. Okay. He's hard to work with apparently or something or he stinks. Which one is it?
Starting point is 00:35:35 You're asking me. I'm asking you. It's actually both. As a fellow stinker. Yeah but it's both. We're in an email thread. Because he was in a bunch of stuff and now he's just not. Yeah. I don't know, that happens to a bunch of people. I think it's because he's hard to work with and he stinks. As a fellow stinker that's hard to work with, what do you think it is? I think it's true. He seems the type. Game recognises game as it were.
Starting point is 00:36:00 That's right. So then we've got Knives Out 3 Wake Up Deadman. This is the spooky one, right? That's right. Come on, hot one, spooky one. Yeah. So this is the Benoit Blanc. He's back.
Starting point is 00:36:14 He's back. He's got big floppy hair. That's right. And he's ready to solve a crime and a murder and a mystery. And Jeremy Renner is in it, but he's not playing himself, which is interesting because in the previous movie- Jeremy Renner's hot sauce. Jeremy Renner's hot sauce. That's right not playing himself, which is interesting because in the previous movie, Jeremy Renner is hot sauce, but he does have been this good cast. And it also gives you the names of the characters.
Starting point is 00:36:32 Yeah, that's interesting, isn't it? Yeah. Some of the names in this include Kayleigh Spani, Daniel Craig, Mila Kunis, Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Thomas Hayden Church, Darryl McCormick, Josh O'Connor. He's in tennis. He is in tennis. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Yeah. That's good. This is out December 12th. Apparently, just a streaming. I hate that. No. Give us that one week cinema window we had last time. Let it. Give us the one minute cinema window we had last time where you went in and you paid for your ticket and
Starting point is 00:37:10 they let you watch one minute, one random minute in cinemas and they kicked you out in the cold and the snow. That was what happened. Yeah. So now I'm looking forward to this and they did both Daniel Craig and Ryan Johnson. Oh yes. Who you said ruined Star Wars, is that right? I did say that. You called him Ruin Johnson. I did say. Oh yes. You said Ruin Styles, is that right? I did say that. You called him Ruin Johnson. I did say that, yes. And I think that was a particularly effective bon mot for me.
Starting point is 00:37:32 Let me say man, you fucking got it. I got him good, didn't I? I rinsed that guy. They will keep making these together, as long as they're both involved, they said. So I think Daniel Craig likes doing these because he didn't have to run around with his shirt off. That's true. Yeah. Ryan Johnson and Don Johnson are related? Yes, cuz Don Johnson was in Knives Out I think they are related. Do you think Ryan Johnson is Don Johnson's dad? I think that is true. Yes
Starting point is 00:37:54 I thought so as well. Yeah, email in folks if you know, no, it's just true We don't need I think you should email in to say I know or I don't know but don't look it up Don't provide any further information. That's good. We don don't need to know. This is by EW. The very first DC Marvel crossover of 2025 is happening in comics. It's going to be Batman and Deadpool. Apparently these one shots also contain other DC characters meeting Marvel characters. Oh hell yeah. This dates back to like the 70s. It got pretty big in the 90s and then it stopped. Like when Superman met Muhammad Ali, famous Marvel character Muhammad Ali.
Starting point is 00:38:31 That's right, exactly. And beat him up. Easily. Easy as. Apparently Marvel's One Shot will be written by Zeb Wells and Greg Capullo. That's on, that comes out September 17th. Zeb Wells famously writes the Spider-Man series that nobody likes. Oh, that's good.
Starting point is 00:38:50 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And DC's One Shot will be written by Grant Morrison with art by Dan Mora and that releases in November. What a, okay, that's... Why do you think that's why? I think that's interesting. Like you've gone with Grant Morrison, you know, just a renowned comic writer, and Dan Mora, who's the hottest ticket in days. Everybody wants Dan Mora to draw their characters, and they've gone with, a couple of guys that
Starting point is 00:39:14 people can take a leave. Maybe, no, I think that's not true. I think people like Greg Capullo. People love Greg Capullo. Yeah. They've gone with the guy that, I don't know. He's just writing Spider-Man at a bad time. Yeah. There's like an exceptionally good Spider-Man story happening. Yeah. But he's done some, he's done good things, Sam Wells. Yeah. I assume. Right? Let's look it up. I don't know. I can't think of the top of my head.
Starting point is 00:39:42 Yeah. All right. Let's find out. There's a lot of like, this guy killed Spider-Man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's good. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm obviously this is just DC's most popular character meets Marvel's most popular character Yeah, I mean, yeah, that's you gotta open strong day. I guess so that makes sense magic Deadpool's Oh like you just like a body muscle bloody problems This is serious, yeah, yeah, what did you what did you what did you tell your mom about it? Well, actually she's dead. I apologize That got too far that they actually got too far with my japs
Starting point is 00:40:32 Yeah, and so so on and so forth. I apologize. Look I'm gonna take this. I've gained some wisdom here I'm gonna take this back to the Marvel Universe. Mm-hmm, and I'm gonna be Sincere and thoughtful from now on and I'm gonna not tell anybody to look at Universe. And I'm gonna be sincere and thoughtful from now on. And I'm gonna not tell anybody to look at my balls anymore. That's correct, yes. Yeah. You've changed me, Batman. And cinema.
Starting point is 00:40:53 That's right. Don't you think? I think so, yeah. Ah, that's good. That's happening. I just quickly, Michael Bay did an update on Instagram on skibbity toilet. Go on. He's like, there's been a lot of rumors circulating, but I'm not directing skibbity toilet. Wow. I didn't think he was. Is he producing skibbitytoilet and he's like, there's been a lot of rumors circulating, but I'm not directing skibbitytoilet.
Starting point is 00:41:05 Wow. I didn't think he was. Is he producing skibbitytoilet? I think he's just like, got his hand on it, but I don't really think he's. I think a lot of people have thought Michael Bass had his hand on it for a lot of years, honestly. Nah, road one.
Starting point is 00:41:26 It's good stuff, Mason. Thanks, man. There you go! And that's the news! That is the news. That reminds me, I should have said this up top, but I was on the Do Go On 500 episode live. Oh, damn! The video of that is up, apparently. On the YouTubes, find it on YouTube.
Starting point is 00:41:42 If you've ever heard of that. But I'm also on the subsequent 501st episode because Matt Stewart was doing a comedy festival road show. So I popped in and we talked about Evil Knievel. Evil Knievel. Didn't he die? Yeah. Like a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:41:57 A while ago. Wouldn't he be dead regardless? Because of just time? Time probably. Yeah, but they got him early. Yeah. Who's they though? I don't know, man. I don't know what you're talking about.
Starting point is 00:42:05 I mean, you're talking about Evil Knievel. I thought you knew something about him. I don't. I want to be clear about this. I heard about him for like an hour and I've forgotten everything. But also that like whether he's alive or dead is irrelevant to the- He was born in 38. He could easily be alive now if he didn't die in 2007 which he did.
Starting point is 00:42:22 That's what I'm saying, yeah. Damn. What were evil can evils last words? He wrote them down and it was believe in Jesus Christ. Huh? Apparently. That's some I don't know. Google. So fuck maybe someone else. Maybe said something funny. Might have said something. Let's let's talk. Maybe he simply repeated, you know, let's talk. Maybe he repeated just some funny riffs from our podcast.
Starting point is 00:42:48 He probably did. When did he die? 2007. Okay, we didn't have a podcast. Maybe he had a vision of the future. Probably had a vision of our future. Of his future and our future. His future, which would have been listening to our podcast.
Starting point is 00:42:59 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe he did a fun riff where he made the actor Tom Holland talk in a funny voice. He probably did. He probably did that. Was Tom Holland alive then? Who knows? We don't actually know. There's no way to know.
Starting point is 00:43:09 Bye everyone. No, we'll talk about this movie. Yeah, nice. Bring it back. Bring it back. That's right, Mason. It's late at night. Look, I was also explaining to you, it's 11 o'clock here.
Starting point is 00:43:21 Were you explaining or were you making excuses? I was making excuses. And for me, because there is a two hour time difference in Fiji it's one in the morning. Wow. And let me tell you Mason. But what time is it here? One in the afternoon. So. What's happening? James what's happening here is it's one in the afternoon but the sun has disappeared. I didn't want to alarm you but I think maybe now it's time for you to face facts. I don't know the scientists don't understand but the sun is gone. I don't have time for the sun Mason and it's time for you to face facts. I don't know the scientists don't understand but the Sun is gone I don't have time for the Sun Mason and it's antics. I'm gonna podcast to record. Okay
Starting point is 00:43:52 Well again, we're sick of it. We're in the children of men universe Plus the Sun has gone out But we still have to go to work and it's late, but it's the after to go to work and it's late but it's the afternoon. All their Christmases come at once which means Stranger Things is out. No it's not. Oh wow they cancelled Stranger Things. Well they just even if it was that would mean we missed the first four. Are we gonna watch the middle three? Yeah. Hopefully there's a recap. Yeah and then we have to go to work. Okay, good. Mason, bring her back.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Bring her back. All right, settle. This is serious business. This is a bleak movie we're going to talk about. It's bleak. It is. On a budget of $15 million it's opening weekend, $7 million in the US and an additional $1 million overseas.
Starting point is 00:44:45 Not bad. This will tick over and do well. It might not do as well as their last movie, Talk to the Hands, which is actually called Talk to Me. Yeah, which made like 95 million. So this is Danny and Michael Philippu. Yeah. They are the Racka Racka brothers.
Starting point is 00:44:59 They are. They've done a lot of stuff. Absolute loose units. I've not seen any of their, well, I was going, after the movie I looked into their various works. I've not actually seen anything they've done on YouTube. I should rectify that. Is it... it's horror comedy. The stuff on YouTube. Yes, is that correct? Sometimes. Okay, because that's what it says on Wikipedia. They are known for their horror comedy YouTube videos. But I did scroll down because they have one Wikipedia page. Yeah, together. Because they are brothers and they have one Wikipedia page. Yeah, together.
Starting point is 00:45:25 Because they are brothers and they've done everything together. They're twins. But I went, I'm like, oh no, there's a controversy tab. I'm like, oh no. So I clicked it and it says, in December 2019, Michael was charged by South Australia police with numerous crimes related to a video uploaded on 16th January 2019. Oh no. Yeah. Which depicted him driving a heavily modified
Starting point is 00:45:47 and watertight car on public roads while completely submerged and breathing through a hole in the roof. Yeah, who gives a shit? Doesn't matter. That's such an Adelaide thing to do also. Well, this was filmed in Adelaide, wasn't it? But avoided conviction after ending a plea deal
Starting point is 00:46:01 that saw him pay $2,000 in fines and disqualified him from driving for two weeks. Fucking ridiculous. Unbelievable. The amount of fucking, just the red tape in Australia. Fucking national. Just because he's in a submarine car with his own devising. I think it's fine.
Starting point is 00:46:17 Yeah, I think so too. It's not like he was killing other people. If it had had died, he would have died. And yeah, that would have sucked. It'd be bad for him. Anyway, but but I mean as far as controversies for film directors totally okay. Not the worst I've seen. Some of them are pedophiles. Some are. Yeah. More than you'd think. Yep. More than should be allowed at us still working. I think so too. Yeah this also so this was written by Danny and Bill Hinsman. Okay, so not Michael.
Starting point is 00:46:46 The Hinsman. That's what they call him. So talk to me cost less than $5 million. That was $4.5 million I think. And then it made nearly $100. That's right. Just kidding. Just a little bit of a late night muck around.
Starting point is 00:47:00 It actually made nearly $100 million. Just a little the sun went our muck around. Oh yeah, I forgot. We are doomed, but we must go to work. So that did very well. Yeah, so what do you think the story was though? Oh, it's a grim one, I'll tell you that much. It is.
Starting point is 00:47:15 Alright, so it's set in Adelaide, so first... Yuck. Yeah, first of all. So there's... Adelaide doesn't deserve the sun, do you agree? I agree. I agree, I hope they move this sun burning out thing to Adelaide. I'm actually glad the sun has burned out and we're all going to freeze to death. Because also Adelaide will freeze to death. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:47:35 I think that's cool. That's good and cool. Anyway, so bring it back. It's a brother and sister, Andy and Piper. And they come home from school one day to discover their dad has... Also this movie's pretty grim. You've said that already. Even describing it, if you're not into a real grim movie. Yeah, you're having a grim time?
Starting point is 00:47:57 They come home to discover their dad has slipped over in the shower and hit his head and he died. And so they're going to be put into some sort of foster care, potentially separately, but then they're like, well, we don't want to be separated. So a woman named Laura agrees to take them on because Piper is only partially sighted and Laura had a daughter who died recently,
Starting point is 00:48:19 who was also partially sighted. So she's like, okay, well that will. Yeah, I'm set up for this. I'm set up for this. Okay, and then they move in and then then it's all sad so sad and sad stuff happens they stepped away from Street Fighter for this apparently due to too many punches to the head maybe there they said that because it was a scheduling conflicts I don't know I don't know I feel like it's more than
Starting point is 00:48:43 that I think it might be like a... It's hard to adapt to True Fighter? Yeah, and they're pretty loose units. We had a conversation with Marvel. We'll talk about that later. Oh yeah, a general meeting with Marvel. What do you think they could do? Midnight Suns? Yeah, I don't know. Blade? It's so interesting because it could be Blade. Their movies are so different than their Miss People.
Starting point is 00:49:07 I just find that just really fascinating. Like the range that they have. It's incredible. Anyways, is Laura's motivation pure? And she wants to have him give him a nice home? No, obviously not. It's bring her back time. It's bring her back.
Starting point is 00:49:21 It's bring her back time. It's going to get supernatural maybe. Great cast. Is it going to get... Yeah. and also flawless Australian accents very because you might be like Oh Sally Hawkins amazing actor, of course There's another one though. Yeah, Bill back Billy Barrett. He was 17 He was young a little chameleon craven was he craven the hunter. That was a good movie. No, it wasn't Oh, yeah, it's bad. It's I just didn't recognize that at all. He's British and his accent, his Australian accent is full. I mean, you expect that from Sally Hawkins. He was an incredible actor. You don't get no props.
Starting point is 00:49:52 Sally Hawkins, because you should just be able to do this. And also Piper is played by Sora Wong. I think this might be a first role. Yeah, very good. Apparently zero acting experience. Her mother discovered the casting call on Facebook which is pretty goddamn good and there's another kid called Jonah Ren Phillips who lives with Laura who... Oh yeah so she's also like I'm also fostering this other kid who's like this very odd shaved head kid who just walks around in board shorts all the time and tries to strangle cats. What's going on with that guy? Probably normal stuff.
Starting point is 00:50:24 I think he's fine. Just give him a minute. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Give him a goddamn minute. I mean, give him something to do in Adelaide, you know. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway, so without spoiling, we'll do a big spoiler section. Yeah. I would say, like the occasional movie we talk about on this podcast, I think it's a very well-made film. Yep. And I think it is definitely worth a watch. watch. But boy, it's not fun, is it? I was wincing, Mason. It's not, it's not. Physically, like, Jesus Christ.
Starting point is 00:50:51 If you're like, man, I love a horror movie, you know. Like recently we talked Until Dawn. It's a pretty fun movie, but it's not really an anything movie. It's kind of like, this is a real film. Sinners is like great in action packs and whatever. This is a film that is about child abuse and it's also got a horror supernatural element. Trauma and death. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's very well made. It's not...
Starting point is 00:51:15 It's also a much... It felt much smaller than their first film. Right. Even casting wise, there's way less people in it. The last one, even though it wraps up in a pretty grim way. It's fun. It is fun This is this is not fun like at all my concern going into this was like okay the last one was about Possession and you know these kids find this artifact that allows them You know to be possessed by by spirits and and this one seemed to have a similar thing of like spirits and souls and et cetera.
Starting point is 00:51:46 It is the same universe apparently. And I'm like, is this gonna be the same? Is this gonna be just the same thing again? It's not, but like you said, it's not, at least, the last one had the kind of the vibe of like, well it's teenagers up to teenage thrills kind of thing. And it was kind of this drug metaphor kind of thing. And you, there were scenes where everybody's partying and having fun and what have you.
Starting point is 00:52:10 And then it kind of goes too far. Yeah. There's no partying. Well, there's a tiny bit of partying in this, but it's kind of, it's more child abuse. Yeah, it's more child abuse. If you are not on board with like, and I think, you know, one of the, one of the things that is interesting about this film is there's there's probably a taboo even in horror movies you don't harm kids yeah
Starting point is 00:52:32 boy you do in this though don't you? You punch a kid right in the eye. Like supernatural mundane yeah like kids are copping it. Nice stuff. Yeah boy. Like you've never seen. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I also think it feels
Starting point is 00:52:47 It's a lot less flashy than their last one like their camera work Cuz up like there's some real kind of twisty-turny kind of had some right evil dead. Yeah, there's none of that again I think it looks really nice. Yeah, which again is not a criticism It's just it's just way more low-key even all the ghoulish stuff in this the last one was like riddled with monsters and ghosts and whatever and freaks yeah and this is some of that but again way way less and the body horror is like way worse and you could almost well you know I don't think it's a spoiler to say there is some supernatural elements in this yeah you could like if this movie went another way
Starting point is 00:53:26 It could just be about some people who have experienced a lot of trauma Yeah, and a kind of very mentally scarred by that and they think there's supernatural going on You know what I mean? Because Laura Laura the the foster mother has an agenda with these kids and and it's sort of based on something she has but it she's had some traumatic experience her daughter died recently and she's also found this this this manual to yeah kind of achieve a goal that she wants to achieve and it's kind of like it does kind of feel like just somebody who got mentally broken by a traumatic experience
Starting point is 00:54:05 and was just looking for... And if it turned out that it was all in everybody's heads, you'd be like, I get it. Yeah, okay. Makes sense, I guess. Yeah. But no. Supernatural stuff. Supernatural.
Starting point is 00:54:16 I mean, yeah, just covering ground of trauma and losing a child and losing a parent and all of those things, it's handled... And I don't mean just at the shopping center. No. I didn't just lose my mom at the shopping center. No, I didn't. Forever. I just lose my mom at the shopping center. No, you didn't. No. She, you haven't by the way either.
Starting point is 00:54:29 No. She's still around. She is, yes. God bless her. In the shopping center. That's right. You should go pick her up. But um.
Starting point is 00:54:34 At this time of night? Day. Yes. Yes. You're confused because the sun disappeared. That's all right. That's fine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:43 But you're still going to pick your mom up. Oh God. All's all right. That's fine. But you're still gonna pick your bum up. Yeah, I Think all that's handled like like just not well is the wrong word. Well, why am I trying to frame this? It's just it's just it it's good. There you go. My brain is not working. But uh, I also had a bad time also had a bad time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This was a really hard watch. Yeah, but I did enjoy it. Did you enjoy it though? No, I'm enjoying it. I thought I found it very compelling. It is very compelling. Yeah. And nail biting and very sad. A lot of biting. But it's yeah, it's not like if you're looking for a kind of a horror movie like an until dawn or some of the other stuff where like, you know, there's odds and they get triumphed over you're not gonna you're not gonna be feeling you might not be finding that it's
Starting point is 00:55:32 more like hereditary than than it would be an until dawn. Two movies. Two movies. Should we do some spoilers? Yeah, but I'm gonna say best movie ever. I said, you know, it is again, it's it's not every movie you have to be like, yeah. Some movies you're like, oh, oh, and oh, ah. You're feeling the full, the full, you know, sound work as well. Cause there's some like body horror stuff and some biting of things that's just like fucking out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:00 It's like, yeah. If you want to watch a movie. Yeah, all the time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It does, it kind of feels like it's sort of partially. Did you say, do you ever watch a movie? No, if you ever want to watch a movie. I do. You can watch this as a movie. Sorry, go on, yeah. I don't know, it just kind of feels like, it does really feel very Australian. Yes.
Starting point is 00:56:18 The bleakness, I think certainly. The Adelaide of it all. The Adelaide of it all. It does feel like kind of, it does, it is sort of reminiscent of a kind of a wake in fright or kind of the Royal Hotel, which is the kind of the newer version of that. Absolutely. Yeah. Anyway, there you go.
Starting point is 00:56:34 Anyway, time for big spoilers. The ghouls, etc. The ghouls. Big spoilers. Big spoilers. Okay, so Sally's Sally Orkins, Laura's motivations are not pure of course. Her daughter died in a pool, she drowned in a pool, she slipped over and drowned in a pool.
Starting point is 00:56:51 So that's pretty bloody, pretty bloody. Put a fence around it, it's a strain rule by the way. She's found a, someone taped a rich, videotaped a ritual, they handicammed a ritual some time ago and it is a ritual, they handicammed a ritual some time ago and it is a ritual to... Well you summon an entity. You summon an entity and that helps you... And that goes into a person and as like this unending hunger. Yeah. But a physical hunger. Yeah. and anything it eats it takes on like an aspect of an aspect of it Yeah for a time. Yeah, but that that it's and she thinks it's an angel
Starting point is 00:57:31 She she performs this ritual on a little boy. She abducts. Yeah, and And it embodies him, you know in a sort of she thinks it's an angel Yeah, but it's clearly a devil if not the devil. I mean it might be an angel or it might be just got gastro. Yeah, cuz later is fine later. Well It's also you got to keep it in a circle. Yeah Otherwise it'll escape but then will be rejected but she learns from this this creature and this ritual that she can Take the soul of her daughter and put it in another body. Because she's of the belief that when a body dies, the soul is still in it for a few months.
Starting point is 00:58:12 And that body, that soul is in a body that she's got in a fridge. Yeah, and I guess if you freeze it, the soul stays even longer. Probably does. So putting bread in the freezer, you can get a good few months out of that if you have to.
Starting point is 00:58:21 That's exactly right. But then what, do you put it in the microwave? Doesn't come out right. You toast it, that's the idea behind it most. So you have to. That's exactly right. But then what do you put in the microwave? Doesn't come out right. You toast it. That's the idea behind it most of the time. You toast that bread. I'll microwave it. Nice floppy bit of bread.
Starting point is 00:58:31 Hot floppy bread. I don't think so, man. No, I'm opening a cafe. It just serves hot floppy bread. Do you mind if I don't come to that? I mind if you do come to that. Mate, you need to be there. Beggars cannot be choosers at hot floppy bread. It's not what it's called.
Starting point is 00:58:52 What is it called? It's called Hot Flops. It's called Mr. Hot Flops. Anyway. Anyway, so her brother's there and the idea was this woman Laura needs to get him out of the way to perform this ritual to put her daughter into the body of... Oh yes, so she thinks, and maybe it's true and maybe it's not, that if you want to transfer a soul into a new body, the soul of a dead person into a new body, you have to kill the
Starting point is 00:59:23 person who has the new body in the same manner Yep that the original person has killed and have the entity after it's consumed the person who died Vomit up that person and soul into the body and then it seems from the VHS tapes She has that that works Maybe Yeah
Starting point is 00:59:40 Or it's just some lunatics Yeah I mean it's just some lunatics killing a woman What? And killing another one They don't explain where she got these from either No, I don't think it's just some lunatics. Yeah. Maybe it's just some lunatics killing a woman and killing another woman. They don't explain where she got these from either. No, I don't think it's important. No, I don't think it is, but I think that's... It is kind of...
Starting point is 00:59:52 I wonder who subtitled it. Well, it is subtitled. I think that was for... because there's some pretty heavy exposition in that at one point. Yeah. I don't know. Maybe they're tapes you can order online. Maybe they are. Yeah. Yeah, maybe. That's true. Yeah, so I think it's interesting in terms of what even is this entity? What is it? There's
Starting point is 01:00:11 a moment where she questions what it is and you get kind of a glimpse of it in the mirror and it looks like a demon. It's got horns, etc. But also it seems to have some kind of empathy Because it does let the boy go at the end like it it intentionally steps out of the circle and exits That's true. I thought that was interesting. So maybe it's not Hmm, or maybe it's just a case of I'm done. Yeah, like the thing didn't work Yeah, there's no more to be gained from being here. So I'll just leave Yeah, you might be right. I'll try this again the next time somebody orders one of these videos out of a magazine. A crook magazine. I also thought that it's interesting that the Laura character, it seemed there were
Starting point is 01:00:55 points during this where she didn't actually want to do this and she was thinking that she wouldn't. Because she has a conversation with the daughter who she takes in, where she's like, well, you know, you can stay. Like you can, and I got the sense that, oh, if she decided to stay, she might not do this. Because then she has a daughter. No, I didn't say that. Because if she did get the, if the sole thing happened, like she would stay regardless. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:24 So what I'm saying is like, if she had decided to stay on her own free will, then potentially maybe she wouldn't have done it. Probably just easy access to be drowned in a pool. And also you can punch her in the eye when she's asleep. That's true. Which is not okay. I think it's not good enough. Or getting them drunk.
Starting point is 01:01:39 Or peeing into a cup and then pouring it on a person. To make it look like they've peed themselves. Yeah, that's not good. Also, or eating a knife. Fucking hell. Jesus. I think that's on Andy. Yeah. Like putting the melon on the end of the knife and then looking away momentarily. And the way was it like because he was eating it vertical which makes it so much worse. Awful. Yeah biting into that wooden bench and the teeth are shattering and god fucking hell.
Starting point is 01:02:03 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because they are again they're known fucking hell. Yeah. Yeah. Because again, they're known for that sort of... Is that all practical effect on some level? Seems to be. I mean, the teeth I'd imagine would be... Comped out with visual effects. Maybe he's a kid who lost his front teeth and they can... I don't know.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Maybe they knocked him out for it. Maybe they knocked him out for it, but yeah. Sally Ann Upton is in this? Oh yeah, she is too. Famously, first time I've ever seen her get killed by a car. I'm not an Octoman for it, but yeah. Sally Ann Upton is in this. Oh yeah, she is too. Famously, first time I've ever seen her get killed by a car. That was a hell of a hit. That's more of their YouTube stuff.
Starting point is 01:02:34 Oh, I see, right. So she's in... Oh yeah, she's in Auntie Donna's coffee cafe. She is, that's true. Yeah, yeah. And also Wentworth. She's in Wentworth. New Wentworth and old Wentworth's true. Yeah, yeah. And also Wentworth. Wentworth, he's in Wentworth. New Wentworth and old Wentworth.
Starting point is 01:02:46 I think so, yeah. She was in Neighbours. She was in the very excellent Mr. Dundee. Oh. You liked that, didn't you? No, I haven't seen it. Why would I? I saw it.
Starting point is 01:02:55 You would. I wouldn't have. Yeah, I've got some reviews here though, if you're interested. The first review I read was from, because afterwards I went in knowing almost nothing about it, just maybe seeing one of the teasers, I think. And then I Googled it afterwards and the first result was from a review from Paste magazine and it was like five and I'm like, oh, five out of five. And it's like, no, five out of 10.
Starting point is 01:03:18 And I think they were like, they couldn't get past and fair enough it was so much like violence upon children kind of thing yeah okay I'm like yeah like they were like excellent performances everybody's great this is yeah it's not harrowing to get through. I would only recommend to the people who like real crook shit like I wouldn't recommend this to a normal person yeah okay right I was gonna go to the movies with someone today, and I'm like to this. Yeah, I'm like I Yeah, I'm like not not this one. You don't know this. You're right Yeah from just from what I'd heard about I didn't know already But I'm like you're not gonna know it's probably not a first date movie is it no I would say not no
Starting point is 01:04:00 Which is what I was gonna be for me. Yeah, that's great So there you go. Anyway, this is from Brandon who says, 9 out of 10 best movie ever. Surprisingly realistic portrayal of grief and slash trauma. And grubs. And grubs. Grubby teenagers. Oh yeah. Excellent performances, good cinematography and tone outstanding.
Starting point is 01:04:21 Gore doesn't over explain the main premise, which I feel is an interesting take on the genre. Little to no jump scares. That's true. Very dark and a real downer. Would recommend. Yeah, I liked the idea that was still in spoilers. I liked the idea that it really wasn't over explained. Like at a certain point, I'm like, I don't really understand how this transfer takes
Starting point is 01:04:39 place or whatever. I also liked the bit where at the end, she goes to drown Piper. Yeah. And then Piper comes out of the water and calls her mom. Yeah. And she thinks that it's the transfer has taken place and it gives her a chance to run. I thought that was a bit. Oh, I thought that is a she like accepted.
Starting point is 01:04:59 I presume that was like, oh, she accept. She was like, oh, I can't do this because this is a girl that loves me or whatever. Oh, no, I didn't think that at all. I thought, because earlier in the movie, she was like, oh, you can call me mom. That's what I mean. I thought she'd like, oh, she's come around to it and she's like, oh, this girl actually loves me. But yeah, maybe it was a thing that you said.
Starting point is 01:05:16 No, I think it was a tactic. Yeah, might be right. Yeah. Let's Google it. Was it a tactic? Yeah. Oh, and the brother drowns. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:24 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Which was very unpleasant. Yeah, and again, and a very, again, like, again, that Australian bleakness to it. Yeah. Like, I feel, again, an American movie of this caliber would not have as many casualties of kids. Yeah. You know?
Starting point is 01:05:40 It says on the Wikipedia, when Piper screams, mom, Laura hesitates and overcome with guilt, lets her go. Oh, okay. But that's A and that's an interpretation. On the Wikipedia, when Piper screams mom, Laura hesitates and overcome with guilt, lets her go. But that's A and that's an interpretation. Yeah, my interpretation was that she thought the transfer had taken place and it was actually her original daughter in the body. So she's like, oh, it's worked. I don't even know, because when whatever it is, it's a bit of a person, because it does
Starting point is 01:06:02 it a few times and then it replicates like their dad at one point. And Andy. And Andy after he dies. But I don't even know whether it's just like an echo or... I didn't know either, yeah. So like, because it also it bites Laura at one point and is doing her voice. Yeah. But it's like, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:06:18 I don't know, man. Yeah, is it? I don't know. I don't know. But that's, I think that's pretty cool. Yeah. They didn't have to over explain it. How's it work? I don't know. I don't know. But that's, and that's, I think that's pretty cool. Yeah. They didn't have to over explain it. How's it work? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:06:27 I mean, they probably know. I'm sure they do. Angus says crazy to think if she follow, sorry, crazy to think if she follow Australian, if she followed Australian pool requirements, the movies events wouldn't have happened. Sure. We need fences in Australia. We need fences. That's true. And there wasn't one here.
Starting point is 01:06:44 Ben says, I love the Phillipoos previous film, talk to me, but this one felt too unrelentingly down too much of an imitation of hereditary and midsummer for me, sadly. Yeah, fair enough, I guess. I was going to say, yeah, I also think I think there was, it wasn't a complete, I thought it was going to go where they all like the transfer happened or it went badly and all the kids Died and it didn't and the little kid wanted that to happen No, I didn't want that happen interest and the little kid kind of got away I'll go rescue by the cops and she got away in the end
Starting point is 01:07:14 So it wasn't all and he's got he cured his gastro. Yeah, he's tummy his big tongue What do you think was gonna happen that guy? I guess he was gonna vomit the black stuff. Yeah, I guess so Yeah, anyway, they were on the project and they were asked, are you going to do big Marvel movies? Oh yeah. And they said, oh, we actually had a general meeting with Marvel. My manager called and said, you're on a general meeting. We've got that happening right now.
Starting point is 01:07:31 He speaks on the call, but they were at the pokies. Yeah, that sounds about, sounds, from what little I know about them. Submarine car. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I also apparently they just want to keep making movies in Australia.
Starting point is 01:07:43 Because they're Australian. They say so. Because they're Australian. I saw that. And it seems nice. Think this through. A movie, maybe do a remake of a movie, suits their sensibilities and it also goes with the three word system they've got going. So talk to me, bring her back, weekend at Bernie's Grim Reboot. What do you think about that?
Starting point is 01:08:02 In Adelaide. In Adelaide! Well, we went to the pub. Submarine car? Build a submarine car? Yeah, we can do that. Nice. Nice. Should we move it along? Let's move it along. I'm ready to do that now. I'm ready to do that now. What are we going to do? We're going to do what we're reading. Whoa. And what we're going to read. Hey. Mr. Son of Movies. And he makes us there too. I'm doing the thing. What are we reading today? Rick and Morty's back.
Starting point is 01:08:34 This is what we're reading segment. We talk about what we're reading, watching and doing. Didn't we say that earlier? Yeah. But I mean this is what it's about. First two are out. I like the first one was like a matrix-y kind of thing, not really. Not the kicking and stuff, just the idea of putting somebody in a matrix.
Starting point is 01:08:50 The kicking and stuff? Yeah, not the kicking and stuff. Okay, right. What's even the point? That sounds like the matrix resurrections. If there's not going to be any kicking and stuff. I think it's fun to put somebody in a matrix. In a matrix.
Starting point is 01:09:00 For petty reasons. Oh, I see, right. Okay. Which is fun. Okay. And the second one was I didn't like as much was bugs and etc But also I was putting this podcast together while I was watching that one So who am I to say? Give it a fair shake. Maybe I didn't. Anyway, and I enjoyed the matrix episode etc. That's true What are you I'm still adjusting to the voices, right? Who is it now? Is it anybody? I can't remember
Starting point is 01:09:22 Who's Dan Stevens is playing somebody is it Soul or Opposites? Yeah, remember. Dan Stevens is playing somebody. Is it Soul or Opposites? Yeah. Okay. He's playing. That's wild. So it's THE Dan Stevens. The Dan Stevens. Yeah. Notoriously weird Dan Stevens. Apparently.
Starting point is 01:09:32 Yeah. Is he notoriously weird? Isn't he weird? He's weird. He plays weirdos. Yeah. Speaking of, I'm going to watch Cuckoo this week, which is the movie he's in with Hunter Schaefer.
Starting point is 01:09:42 Oh, that's supposed to be very good. Yeah, that's on stand now, I think, in Australia. Hunter Schaefer might be Zelda or something supposed to be very good. Yeah, that's on stand now I think in Australia's not to show them might be Zelda or something. That's right. I think it should be Hunter Schaeffer is Zelda Yeah, and that that fine young lad from Evil Dead Rise. Oh, there we go. Link. That's a good idea We've done it. We've done it. We've solved the problems. We solved all the problems of the world. I've been speaking of I this week I watched Revenge which is Coralie Fargeais first movie. The TV show Revenge with what's her name? Emily what her name? She played Sharon Carter's niece. Whatever you're talking about shut up. No. Let me finish. It's the movie she did before The Substance.
Starting point is 01:10:18 Ah. It's from 2017. It's on Tubi. Never seen it. Is it good? It's pretty good. You can see where It's on to be now. I've seen it. Is it good? It's pretty good You can see where you can see where the substance came from. I know there's a lot of kind of it's got that kind of high Contrast look to our chair and it's a it's a it's about a wall. It's a small much smaller movie It's about a woman getting revenge. She's left for dead in the desert by her boyfriend Yeah to other to other absolute goobers. Yeah, and she's like, I'm gonna get revenge. She takes a peote in the desert. She's like I'm gonna get revenge. So it's much it's like it like a much smaller scale Oh, yes. Yes. Yes. You know, it's pretty interesting. I'm a straight forwardy. No more straightforward I think the woman who plays I don't have an idea but she's in the running to be red Sonya I think when I finally did that red Sonya movie because I remember for a time
Starting point is 01:11:01 Brian singer was gonna do that. Brian singer was gonna be red Sonya. Yeah, I don't think he's I don't think he's got the look for it Yeah, Bryan Singer was going to do that. Bryan Singer was going to be Red Sonja. Yeah. I don't think he's got the look for it. Yeah. And he's, you know, fleeing charges. And I don't think he'd look good in a chainmail bikini. Oh great. All those things are true of him.
Starting point is 01:11:16 Oh and I started listening to Anthony Bourdain's first book, Kitchen Confidential, which I've read a number of times. I've had a bunch of copies over the years. Did he tell you all the secrets of a kitchen? Sort of. This is a spoon. No, this, yeah. But think, but sexy, you know?
Starting point is 01:11:32 Oh. And rock and roll. This is a sexy spoon that you could use as a guitar. Yes. Yeah. You said you haven't read it, but that's the opening line. No, no, I told him that. Which nobody can prove. That's true opening line. No, no, I told him that oh Which nobody could prove yeah, that's true. Yeah, but it's on Spotify premium so okay, so it's a for people that don't know if you've got Spotify premium You get a certain amount of audiobook hours per month
Starting point is 01:11:55 I didn't know that. You can get on that. I have that. You should get, you should do that. No, no ads either This isn't a Spotify ad Unless we get Spotify ads, which sometimes we do. Do we? All right. Occasionally. Yeah. But I've been trying to track that, but sometimes with Audible, it's like you've got an Audible credit, you can pay 52.99 and I'm like, I don't want to do that.
Starting point is 01:12:15 Either. I don't want to do it. I don't want to use my credit, obviously. I don't want to pay any money. That's hard, isn't it? Yeah. It's crazy. Well, speaking of books, I read a couple of books while I was away. money. That's hard, isn't it? Yeah. It's crazy.
Starting point is 01:12:25 Well, speaking of books, I read a couple of books while I was away. One of them was called The Salt Path by Rainer Wynn, which also I just discovered is a movie with Gillian Anderson. Do you mean Gillian Anderson? No. Interesting. Is Gillian Anderson related to Gillian Anderson? I don't know if they're related, Mason.
Starting point is 01:12:40 I couldn't speak to that, to be honest. Is Gillian Anderson related to Gilligan's Island? Are you enjoying this? The TV series? Hard to misspeak. Yes. Yes, I am. You just do this for a minute? I couldn't speak to that. Is Gillian Anderson related to Gilligan's Island? Are you enjoying this? The TV series? Yes. Yes, I am. You just do this for a minute?
Starting point is 01:12:49 Every time I do, yes. If you ever think about asking that question, I do. It's about a couple who lose their home to a bad business deal with a friend. So he just rinses them for everything. This is a true story. And also they find out that the husband has a terminal illness. And so because they are without a home and they've got nothing else to do or anywhere to stay, they, they do this coastal trek, trek for months at a time.
Starting point is 01:13:17 Yeah. Well, yeah, except it's homelessness and the perils of nature and relationships and family and death and it's incredible. It's very good I'm gonna go see the movie and yeah, I've it's been when you say go see the movie like on your TV I'm gonna sit on the moon. I'm gonna go see it. It's out. Oh, it's out. Okay. All right, uh It's at the cinemas now, it's after the cinemas now So yeah, I very much enjoyed it and also a weird book to read on a beach in Fiji. Yeah, sure
Starting point is 01:13:43 Yeah, sipping a tropical drink. Yeah, being like, ah, better than me. That's right. They're fine now. Okay, sure. It saves. That's great. Well, they got a movie out.
Starting point is 01:13:54 Yeah, that's right. With Gillian Anderson. With Gillian Anderson. Do you think she's related to Gillian Jacobs? Which is actually how she pronounces her name. Yes, Mason, I do think that. Wow. Yeah, you enjoying this still?
Starting point is 01:14:09 So you think they're related, even though, because they share the same first name. But you asked me which... I'm asking you. Mason, it's nearly two in the morning for me. You won, all right? You got me. Thanks, man. Feels good. Feels good.
Starting point is 01:14:24 And at my lowest point. Thanks man. Feels good. Feels good. In a world where the sun has disappeared and we still have to go to work I'm feeling a little bit down. And everything's gone crazy but it's also boring. And we're in the children of many universe but the sun has gone out. You might be like, what's going on? And you can still have kids but you don't want to.
Starting point is 01:14:44 That's right. It's expensive. Yeah, it seems that way and everyone's brain is rotted from fucking. I don't know Yeah, whatever else. Anyway, it feels good to get you because you mispronounced tonight It feels really good And I'll do it again, I know I know Let us say it's just fortunate that I never misspeak or say anything wrong. Or if you do, I don't say anything. I just go whatever. Well, that makes you the bigger man. But that's not important. That's not the currency we use in the world where the sun's gone out and the world's ending. And it's the afternoon, but it's also two
Starting point is 01:15:18 in the morning. In this universe, the currency is... Ritz and a bloke. That's exactly right. Anyway, now it's time for letters. Yeah. The classic one was... Letters, oh letters, we love you. Some letters, they're only a day away. You know they're here right now, we're gonna do letters. I think...
Starting point is 01:15:40 Whoa! I think that started playing out of a different speaker on my phone. It did sound different. Because I didn't think this had two sets of speakers So there you go. It's true Mason. Wow. Wow. Wow You can email in weeklyplanetpodatgmail.com with any kind of letter. Easiest thing in the world but make it a good one and a sure one That's right. Also you can enter into the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates group. That's right I put a thread there every week and then you can do that there. Mason, what do you got?
Starting point is 01:16:04 Here's an email from Imogen. Yep. Hey and then you can do that there. Mason, what do you got? Here's an email from Imogen. Yep. Hey guys, my name is Imogen. Imogen. Yeah, we know. And I'm reaching out with a bit of an unusual yet very heartfelt request from my fiancee. Chism is a huge fan of the weekly planet.
Starting point is 01:16:14 Cold Chism? It says Cold Chism. Like the band. Like the band, yes. He never misses an episode and even when flat broke has never cancelled his big sandwich subscription. Hey man, you can cancel, it's okay okay I'm not giving the out chance no no do it okay definitely cancel yes airing him to can't download everything and
Starting point is 01:16:32 then cancel it's totally okay it doesn't say he's flat bro currently okay that's good then cancel it just cancel it everybody out there cancel his descriptions the world's ending The sun's gone out. Always got to be able to pull up an episode on the go. We're getting married soon and I wanted to surprise him with something really special. It would absolutely make his day. Maybe even his whole year if you'd be willing to give him a quick shout out on the podcast or even cover one of his favorite movies. Brick 2005 directed by Rian Johnson. Great movie. If you're curious. And that's our review. That's right.
Starting point is 01:17:06 I concur. It's a good movie. It is a good movie. I think it's still good. Cold Chism, we think the movie Brick is good. And you're smart for liking it. That's true. Because we like it and we're smart.
Starting point is 01:17:16 That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Your sense of human comatrity has been such a big part of his and our daily life, and I know hearing from you would mean a lot to them. I totally understand if you're too busy. we're not. We're just tired. No, I'm not doing anything. Yeah, we're not doing anything. The sun's gone out, it cares.
Starting point is 01:17:29 I appreciate you taking the time to read this and wish you all the best. Thanks for all the laughs and being a part of something that means so much to someone I love. It's from Imogen. Kindness, regards. That's lovely. It is lovely, isn't it? And congratulations. Good luck on the upcoming wedding. Go on. I'm not getting married, but all right. You might. I might. Can't rule it out.
Starting point is 01:17:47 If you're married can I come? Yeah. Unless you're doing like a private thing or whatever. But I would still like to be there. I didn't think of the private thing until you just brought it up. So 50-50 at this point. But I could come regardless. I guess. I guess. Cool man. I guess. I feel like you're the kind of person who turn around one day and be like, oh I got married. I'm gonna be like when? You'd be like oh I got married. I'll be like, when? You'll be like, three years ago. And I'll be like, what? You would do that.
Starting point is 01:18:08 I would do a little bit of that. It's true. This is from Gregory Gritman. Gregory Gritman. It says, do you think James Gunn and Kevin Feige have already discussed a path to get to the Marvelous at DC Cinematic Universe event? 100%. Absolutely.
Starting point is 01:18:22 Nothing said in stone, but yes. I think they've, I think it's going to happen. I've talked about it before, but yeah, you would talk about it. Of course you would. Like, why would you not? And potential ideas of how they do it. The portal opens. Yeah, the portal opens.
Starting point is 01:18:34 Just one big one. Yeah. Everybody pours through and they fight each other's villains, et cetera, and so forth. What if Dr. Doom fought Red Lanterntern man. I reckon they'd be like, I reckon they've even picked a figure. Yeah. It's like when the box office drops to this, we pull the cord and we do Marvel versus DC. Absolutely. That's the, you know, and we're geniuses. We're geniuses, exactly. But DC's got to work to make that happen. It's true, they have to get up to that number first before they can drop down to it again.
Starting point is 01:19:04 That's right. Can't start low, stay low, Mason. That's true. They have to get up to that number first before they can drop down to it again. That's right. Can't start low, stay low, Mason. That's true. This is an email from Michael. Michael? How long makes an old film an old film? Hello guys, thank you for the many years of entertainment. It's the first podcast I reach for each week.
Starting point is 01:19:16 Yes. I'm assuming he's printing them out. You print them out? He's voice to text and then printing it out. Voice to text and then you print them out? And then reaching for it. It's got a guy who prints them. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:24 Reaching out for them. How long makes an old film an old film? Do you have a quantifiable number to define this? Would you define it by particular technology? Or a philosophical answer that makes one question their own mortality? That's appealing. That is appealing. Thank you, Michael.
Starting point is 01:19:37 Sent from Outlook for Android. That's good. It is good. Fucking... Pre-Matrix, post-Matrix. Okay, for me, I just thought of, and you're right, for me it's any movie that's before I was born is an old movie. And that's just a personal metric.
Starting point is 01:19:51 That's not like, you know. Because I'm like, people are doing things before I was born? Yeah, that's ridiculous. Since when? Yeah, that's insane, isn't it? People are going to do things after I die? Unlikely. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:04 Because the sun's gone out. That's exactly right. Yeah. Can't film in the dark, can you? But I think it is that, it's probably that, the moment is probably like 2000s, it's probably like, and the matrix is a very clear kind of, even though it's 1999, it's a very clear, you know, cut off point, most. It's also, I think, very much context dependent, like if you meet a young person.
Starting point is 01:20:24 Oh, totally. Like, yeah. Man, what they like. What about this old movie Avengers 2012? And you're like, excuse me? What did you say to me? Excuse me? I mean, 13. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:36 It's a 13 year old movie now. Oh, yeah. Okay. So yeah, that's. Oh, 13 year old movie. Yes. Empires have risen and fallen in that time probably. That's probably true. So yeah. Yeah. Lost a few bloody Prime Ministers. Good. Yeah. We could lose a few more. Current or
Starting point is 01:20:53 future. Sean Livingston Ward says would you boys ever want to host a screening like the one Zack does for a fun fun time at the Lido? So Zack from Aun Donna hosts film screenings. They're film screenings when I'm there. Start to finish. Yeah, the Fun Time Phil Club. I don't want to organize anything. It's like birthdays. I don't want one but I'll go to your birthday. But I don't want one for May. Would you go to my wedding? My private wedding? No. Yuck. Yuck ends no and you're probably already married. I got married three years ago. Yuck. Yuck ends no and you're probably already married. I got married three years ago, so surprise.
Starting point is 01:21:27 No, we're not organizing guys, are we? No, no. We're just, we never have been and we don't want to. Yeah, we're a last minute edition of things. Cause somebody else pulled out and we're like, all right. Yeah, we'll do it. Yeah. Woohoo! A lot of like, can you be on my podcast? This comedian died or whatever. I'm like, fine.
Starting point is 01:21:43 Fine. But only if we can make fun of them. Yeah Dave Hughes R.I.P I got another one. I got one more email. All right, man. This is from Bradley Nudge I think it's his name's longer than he said names longer than that, but it's been cut off. So Bradley Nuge Which huge Nuge which iPhone or Android is this sent from? Doesn't say. Wow.
Starting point is 01:22:08 A man of mystery. I do have some options at the end here to reply. Hey gents, just watching Novocaine I was thinking any actors you would like to see take a shot as an action movie lead. I honestly think Jack Quaid did a great job and would love to see more actors like him get the chance. It would be a good change from the constant Jason Stathams of it all. I think it was a good mix of charismatic, athletic but but surprising in a way I'm not used to. Have
Starting point is 01:22:27 the pod keep up the great work. And I can click. I think that's a great idea. Yeah. But I'm not going to. I mean, Michael Cera did one once. What did he do again? He did Scott Pilgrim. Oh, that's true. And it was amazing.
Starting point is 01:22:39 That was great. And then he just never did it again. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, yeah. I don't know, perhaps not specifics, but like, do you think there's, we need a new style action guy at this point or gal? Yeah. I mean, I mean, we've got, we've got Chris Hemsworth doing playing Jake Extraction. We've got John Wick. We've got Mr. Nobody. There's one that you wouldn't expect necessarily. That's true. There's the sequels on the way. Do you see the dress? I haven't seen the trailer, but I'm on holiday He's on holiday vacation style and they bring him into a mr. Nobody's situation like holiday road
Starting point is 01:23:12 Oh, I know oh, oh oh, oh Oh, it's that right go on. Yeah But like because we have you know, like why I we say we you know, we've got you try to get you get your steamrollers Yeah, so like Schwarzenegger and then you've got like you strivers like you're Bruce Willis. Yeah, you're Bruce Willis. You're John McClane Yeah, you're John McClane. I'm a John. Oh, maybe we just do them again, but Italian. I'm a John McClane You know, I You pick I had his EP. I don't know. I can't do it. You just do it louder
Starting point is 01:23:44 I had to say Yippee-Ki-Yay. I don't know. I can't do it. You just do it louder. With your hands. More hand stuff. Yeah, I don't know. I think most actors are probably capable of doing it with the right stunt training and time and all of that. But is there anyone in particular I want to see do it? Not necessarily, no. Hoda Kirk's good though. He's just a good screen presence. Completely agree. And he's funny. He does funny things. He's also a funny comedian man. He's a funny comedian man. Yeah. A never won on Emmy? Good.
Starting point is 01:24:13 A Razzie? A Razzie? No, not a Razzie. Razzie? No. What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? Stop copying me. I'm not. I'm not either. What are you doing? What are you doing? Stop copying me. I'm not.
Starting point is 01:24:24 I'm not either. Is it true that Better Call Saul never won an Emmy? Is that the case? At all. Or maybe just he never won one. He probably hasn't. Bob Odenkirk, I'd say probably like you shouldn't have. Better Call Saul.
Starting point is 01:24:41 It's like when challenges didn't win anything. Yeah. List of its rewards received by Bob Odenkirk. All right, here we go. Here we bloody go. Here we bloody go. All right, here we bloody go. It was nominated a bunch of times for Better Call Saul. Never won, yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:01 But he did win an outstanding writing for a variety program in 1993 for the Ben Stiller show Okay, better call Saul received 53 Emmy Award nominations and zero wins That's fucking which is a record for the most nominations without a win It is widely regarded as one of the greatest I mean it never win an Emmy at that point. It's like You're just doing it to be because it seems funny. Oh, you think that's what it is It's smush baby. Me voters are there to be funny. Yeah, they're funny. It is pretty funny now that we talk about it Yeah He's a question for you Mason gone from Jamie Wallace who says if you emulated emulated game that you had
Starting point is 01:25:37 That you had purchased and no longer have access to would you consider piracy? No, no I also look you can do what you want. Oh yeah. But I have very strong feelings about like if a company, whether it be a movie, TV show or a game company, they don't make something available, then yeah, you can take it. I would never. You can though, is what I'm saying. Or if it becomes, or if they put it behind a ridiculous paywall or some other nonsense Yeah, yeah, no, it's I don't I don't like it
Starting point is 01:26:11 Mmm, and also past a certain point do things even make money? Yeah, I go yeah you get it no I agree and like and people say oh, you know Who know who gets it also you got to look at who gets the money? Yeah, right. Is it the original creators yeah I certainly not yeah if it did if it is then if it is then don't pirate it just send John Romero five dollars right he'll appreciate it from you or anybody yeah yeah I know how you feel about it I mean you don't have a computer So you don't buy anything Yes, because you can't if you didn't buy me a switch for my birthday a few years ago
Starting point is 01:26:49 I wouldn't have played any video games in like the last four years. That's correct But I would say and you would have had sex on your wedding night Instead I was playing that switch. That's what I'm saying That's the kind of games I play. No I think, yeah, I think once they're technically abandoned, I mean that being said, probably don't pirate any Nintendo stuff because they'll destroy you. Yeah. They'll make you their indentured servant.
Starting point is 01:27:17 Don't make a big deal of it. Don't make a big deal of it. Just do it quietly. Didn't that happen to a guy? Like they garnered his wages forever or something? They got him. Yeah, don't Still quietly. Didn't that happen to a guy? Like they garnered his wages forever or something? They got him. Yeah, don't pirate any Nintendo stuff. But no, I think a lot of stuff, you know, it's abandoned and if somebody isn't making
Starting point is 01:27:34 a copy of it, it's probably just going to disappear. I hate it when stuff disappears. Yeah. Like, you know, disappears off the internet. Let us do everything and look at everything all the time. Let us look at everything. I've got one more for you Don'ts. I don't.
Starting point is 01:27:49 From Aaron Tucker who says, first time I ask you, first time Dad here. This is for James. Sorry mate, so you can sit this one out. Any advice? Maybe I've got kids and I just didn't tell you. That's a good point from eight years ago. Any advice that people- What out of wedlock?
Starting point is 01:28:00 My goodness. Is that what you're up to? No, no. Any advice that people don't tell you for a 32 year old man child who's had having his first baby already sorted out the hard stuff. Just could go with his advice from a trusted father. What does that mean? Hard stuff? What does that mean? I don't know man.
Starting point is 01:28:16 Cause honestly there's a bunch of hard stuff. Oh yeah. And you're about to hit a bunch of it for years on end. Big love for me. People tell me with kids, like the first couple of weeks, it's like, oh, they're really quiet or whatever. Yeah, they are. Because they've been fucking battered. Because they've been dragged out of the birth canal.
Starting point is 01:28:31 So a lot of people go like, I've got an easy one. And then like a couple of weeks pass and they're like, oh, no, I didn't. I got a normal one. I got a normal one. Oh no. I'm not special. This is kid fuck. Big love from Aaron.
Starting point is 01:28:44 He says it's Aaron Aaron by the way. Like a chair. Yeah, I drew that picture ages ago of God is the God is real bit that you did. Oh yeah, and he hates us. Yeah. Now I remember. I mean I think the thing is you just gotta show up. You say you're gonna do it and also you can say, if you say you're gonna do a thing, do it. Because they remember and you don't want to be like the dad who's like, well he said he was gonna play baseball with me and everything just show up like baseball with they come and talk to you put your phone down close your laptop or whatever pay attention if you can go to like I go to my son's cooking classes and
Starting point is 01:29:15 whatever and whenever he wants me to drop him off of school and pick him up I still do all that same with my daughter she's much younger so it's it's different he said he said he played baseball with me but he said he played with a ghost of Babe Ruth instead Yeah, well, yeah, I'm what am I gonna pass up the opportunities, right? Actually, I do have one more email. Yeah from Garrett who says will you watch the surf with Nick Cage to which I say No, he's probably busy. I reckon I'll see it. You got it. And I got you Garrett It's good watching you do that joke and not have it done to me.
Starting point is 01:29:47 I got you Garrett. You're done mate. Your week's over. Sorry, but not sorry. No, you're not sorry at all. That's right. Yeah, but no in the cages in a movie called The Serpent. Is it good? I don't know. It's in cinemas now, but it's on stand in like a couple of weeks. Okay. We might wait then. Maybe we'll wait. Maybe we'll wait then. Maybe we'll wait. Look at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes. 196%. I know 86% and even I know it's possible. Man that's hot stuff. He's wearing a hell of a wig as well in this one. You don't know that, maybe that's his real hair finally. Nobody thinks that. Nobody thinks that. Sorry. It is very late and the sun has disappeared. It's true. Speaking of, we're about to disappear. This is the end of the show, folks.
