Starting point is 00:00:02 Welcome back everybody to another episode of the weekly planet where we talk movies and comics and TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday, with me as always on my coast. Nick Mason, welcome. It's great to be here, thank you. Are you okay? You're off your game. Dude. You were going to crack that can before we started.
Starting point is 00:00:16 I had to be like, mate, mate. What are you doing? It's time to sit down and have a conversation. Are you okay then? Not only am I always okay, Mason. I can put on a front for years. You don't even know. I could be completely empty inside, crumbled, dust.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Exterior looks fine. It's a patch job. You could be empty inside. Come on, let's be honest. It's time to sit down. I don't want to talk about it. I'm turning my chair backwards. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:00:39 I'm leaning on the back of the chair. Here we go. I just want to be clear, Mason. I don't want to talk about it. I want to explode at some point. You want to rap about it? I would rap about it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Mason, it's a big week for big movies. Is it? It's been nothing but good movies lately, big movies. We weren't that many big movies this week. Well, no. We've deliberately declined to talk about big movie this week. Well, we're going to talk about the Rammel. Of the modifications of certain big movies because Spider-Man is doing very well.
Starting point is 00:01:05 The Odyssey's still doing very well. So we're going to talk about that. Plus some bombs leaving cinemas and the outcomes for that. Here's some stuff we thought about watching, but we didn't. Ice Cream Man. Yeah, by Eli Roth, which is apparently atrocious. I don't like any of his movies. Why would I like the worst movie he's ever made?
Starting point is 00:01:26 A lot of social media reaction to that of like, oh, you know, in my town they do a mystery movie and they said it was a horror movie and I went and I saw it and it was ice cream man and everybody hated it and we all left. So that's good. There's a lot of AI in it as well like a lot of obvious AI apparently
Starting point is 00:01:41 but again I'm not, I don't want to risk like there's a certain appeal to be like let's go to this and make fun of it but also it's like it feels like it's gonna waste my time. Super Troopers 3 is out. Did you know that? I did hear that yeah I don't think I've even seen too. Yeah and also one night only
Starting point is 00:01:56 which is the movie. The apocalypse movie? It's a they live in a It's the purge with sex. Yeah it's the pretext. Yeah, it's the perj of sex. They live in a society that is the same as ours, but if you're single, you can only have sex once a year.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Sweet. Finally. A weird premise. It is a weird premise. The trailer did not indicate any of that to me at all, although I just missed it. We've got one trailer that I saw. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Yeah. But no, we're doing a topic episode, actually, because we're returning to a topic we already talked about. We didn't get to finish it. We didn't get to finish it. We didn't get to finish it. It's best and worst adaptations of comics and et cetera. Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:29 So we get to that. But as mentioned, We've got some stuff up top and there's time because you don't want to skip to anything. Those things I mentioned about big and bad movies. Oh, yes, very good. Box office. We're going to talk about some X-Men casting. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:02:40 It's a God of War recasting. Oh. We're going to talk about some stuff that's probably not happening. Are we God of War and Atreus? Do you think we could be? Yeah. Dad. Dad.
Starting point is 00:02:50 What is it? God of War? Which one of mine? We can both be Eritas. I think we're both Trais. We're going to talk about David Fitcher's squeamers. game. I was just doing that thing where you let the bow go instead of the arrow.
Starting point is 00:03:06 And it goes twang. And it goes twang in an embarrassing way. Yeah. Yeah. The director has left the Jurassic Park slash world franchise and the future of the Sony spin-off Marvel movies. Is in no doubt. He's none.
Starting point is 00:03:18 And of course, we're going to talk about James Cameron. What's he's, maybe he's not going to do Avatar. James Cormorant. Yeah. What do you think about that, Mason? Wow. We'll get to it. We'll talk about it.
Starting point is 00:03:28 If you do support us at patreon. on.com slash Mr. Sunday movies or Big Sandwich or you're on a YouTube member. We've done a video on Resident Evil 2 this week, an original Resident Evil game from 1998, which the new movie is based around sort of. Interesting. And we're stating the Resident Evil franchise this week for
Starting point is 00:03:44 Caravan of Garbage if you do want to check that out. That's right. Yeah. So movies directed or produced by Paul W.S. Anderson. One of the Paul Anderson's. Paul Anderson. Mason. Yes. Spider-Man Brand New Day. Yes, I've heard of it.
Starting point is 00:04:00 It's breaking all kinds of records. Would you like me to tell you at least one of these records? Tell me one of the records. Deadline are saying that it's the faster film ever to gross $500 million of the domestic US box office. That means it's ahead of Star Wars, The Force Awakens. It's ahead of Avengers Endgame. It's huge, Mason. But that's got all the guys in it.
Starting point is 00:04:18 Yes, it's got all of the guys in it. This only has some of the guys in it. Spider-Man only has some of the guys in it. Yeah, man. Harrison was not even in this one. He was in Captain America's a bird. He was in that, wasn't he? That's true.
Starting point is 00:04:29 That didn't make one billion dollars or whatever. So this is going to pass $2 billion and soon. That's right, folks. Spider-Ban. Sput-Bad-Billy Cracker. Double-billy Cracker. Yeah. Are you feeling about that?
Starting point is 00:04:40 Feels good. For me? Yeah. Because I get some of that money. Do you? Yeah, Kevin Fogg, you promised it to me. That's amazing that he would do that for you and not me. He said, if this is a certified double-billy-cracker, you get your ticket price back.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Dude. Yeah. That's great news. In store credit, he said. In store? I don't know. I'm like At the time
Starting point is 00:05:02 I'm like All right Sounds good But then I'm like What store What's he talking about Is there like a Marvel store In Los Angeles
Starting point is 00:05:08 Is it good questions That you should have asked Kevin Fagy At the time We floated this to you On a Zoom call I assume No it was just a guy in the street In a baseball cap Okay
Starting point is 00:05:16 Was it forwards or backwards It was backwards Oh Mason You met Kevin Faggy's evil brother Cleveland Figey Cleveland Is it spelled like Cleveland No
Starting point is 00:05:28 But it's pronounced Cleflin. Okay. So I'm not saying it's not going to happen, but he is an evil version of Kevin Feig. Yeah. So you take that into account. He can be evil but not without honour. That's a fair point, Mason.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Yeah, okay. I like to think you're like that. So yeah, it's going to pass two Billy. Congratulations. Spider-Man is such a bizarre franchise, how well it always does. Yeah, except for the spin-offs, which do awfully. Except for venom, which is,
Starting point is 00:05:54 I guess because it's closer to Spider-Man. So it can. But even then, they're not Billy Crackers. movies. It's not individually. Yeah, what a, what a crazy. It's crazy. Comic book movies are crazy. Yeah. It's why we started this podcast. We sat down, we said comic movies. Are they normal? No, they're crazy. We're going to look into this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. For a decade plus. Yeah. The Odyssey also has made a billion dollars. Certified Billy Cracker. Which is like the third R-rated movie ever to do that. Can somebody get on a Zoom call with
Starting point is 00:06:21 Christopher Nolan and say, Christopher Nolan, congratulations. The Odyssey is a certified Billy Cracker and see what he says. Yeah. I think you'd appreciate it. I think you'd appreciate that. And then go, boi-b-b-b-b-a-b-a-b-a-h-h-h-h-h-h-h. Yeah, cool. And then what if he brings out his own air horn? He'd probably have an old-timey-air horn. It would be something like that.
Starting point is 00:06:41 It would be like an air-h-h-hurt. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah, man. He probably has a penny farthing, doesn't he? Take his kids to and from different events. Absolutely. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:50 It's got a series of sidecars. Maybe. I think his kids are adults now, but he would still do that, wouldn't he? I think so, too. Yeah. But, you know, it's not all good news of the box office, Mason. Disagre. Supergirl ended its run with $125 million worldwide.
Starting point is 00:07:03 That's so little money. Well, not that bad, considering it cost $175 million to make plus $100 million in marketing. So it's not that bad when you think about it that way. It felt like more than $100 in marketing, let me tell you. It did feel like $100 in marketing, didn't it? So yeah, this is losing hundreds of millions of dollars. Supergirl is the lowest grossing DC movie since 2004's Catwoman, which made $82 million. This is below both Joker,
Starting point is 00:07:26 and Morbius. Wow. In terms of box office, Supergirl man, sank like a stone. That's a shame. What do you do, though? What do you do?
Starting point is 00:07:34 What do I do? What do I do? I don't have to do anything. I can't save this movie. I can't go and buy another ticket. They won't even let me anymore. It's not even open. It's not even open at all.
Starting point is 00:07:44 What am I going to do? Buy it again on streaming? I don't want to. I didn't like it that much. It was okay. You put some money into it. I wouldn't put some money into it, Mason. But also, there's good news over a deal.
Starting point is 00:07:53 What do you want me to do? I'm asking you. a bitch. Well, at Disney's, there's good news over at Disney because CEO Josh Di Amaro, he was on an investor call. And even though Moana bombed, and even though the Mandalorian versus Groglit bombed,
Starting point is 00:08:08 you don't need to worry about that. This is what he had to say. Even when our franchise films don't meet our box office expectations, as with the Mandalorian and Grogu. What that is? Yeah. And the live action Moana.
Starting point is 00:08:18 Our investments in these core properties fuel other parts of the company. The Mandalorian and Grogu drove healthy growth in retail sales for the Star Wars franchise. I doubt the truth. Yeah. And that's what's important and that's good.
Starting point is 00:08:29 It drew guests to the updated Millennium Falcon attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World and led to significant engagement in gaming as well. Where? Gaming. Like, Fortnite? What do they, is there a, I guess there'd be a Mandalorian groglet fortnight. That game where you, you, you're Han Solo, um, so, you know, the Connect version. The Connect version of the Danjust dance or whatever it is with the Hans Solo song.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Okay, it's probably that. Yeah. And the live action Moana is expected to be a strong title on Disney Plus, building on the success of the original film, which is one of the most stream movies of all time. Yeah, people won't even watch that anymore because I've got this worst version of it
Starting point is 00:09:01 to watch. This is a great relief to me, somebody who thought that these just did bowed across the board and they shouldn't have made them. Well, they drove other drivers. Adam drivers. He'll be back.
Starting point is 00:09:12 He'll be back on. He needs the work. He'll be back. He'll do it, Mason. He'll do it. So there you go. All's well that ends well. Yep, agreed.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Deadline? Ring a Ling. Hello? You're dead. James, I cannot stress this enough. How dead I am? You're so dead. Now?
Starting point is 00:09:32 Soon. No, thank God. Yeah. Can't wait, honestly. Kit Connor has been cast as Cyclops in the upcoming X-Men reboot. I saw a picture of him. I'm like, that looks like a cyclone. Dude, he's bang on.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Who is this guy? So he's from Heart Stopper. Have you ever seen Heart Stopper? It's on Netflix. I don't know what it is. It's very nice. He's like a stoic. I can see him as like a stoic, a golden boy kind of leader.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Okay, all right. The look is like, dead. Dead on. I think you could not get a... This is confirmed. This is confirmed. Well, Deadline is saying it's what's probably true. Okay. Yeah. So I love this casting choice. That's interesting because earlier they called you and they said, James, you're dead soon.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Yeah. And you're saying that the things they say generally turn out to be true. That's correct. That's right. Okay. Interesting. All right. What a relief. I'm making... Both this casting and my death. I'm connecting those dots.
Starting point is 00:10:15 You're doing a good job. Let me tell you that much. Thank you. Uh, X-Men is being directed by Jake Shrier, as you probably knew or didn't know. Thunderbolts. Mr. Thunderbolts. Yeah. And it's expected in 2028 after Secret Wars. Which makes sense because after Secret Wars, they're going to reboot everything, blah, blah, blah. Correct.
Starting point is 00:10:28 All the previous cyclops, including James Marsden, are going to get shunted into a black hole or whatever happens to them. Yeah. So this is going to be a clean break, new team. Clean-ish. X-Man. There'll be one. They'll keep one. Wolverine?
Starting point is 00:10:41 Yeah. I'd rather they didn't. Right? I'd rather they didn't, Mason. They get the guy from Saturday night. You know the little guy and he's all hair? Who's Saturday Night, man? You know that movie that was about the first opening night of Saturday Night Live?
Starting point is 00:10:53 I hadn't seen that movie. Okay, but he's a little guy. He plays. John Belushi. He's all hair. John Belushi. Jim Belushi? No, John Belushi.
Starting point is 00:11:01 So Jim Belushi doesn't play John Belushi? I don't think so. Unless he does in his show, according to Jim, I'm John. Oh, Matt Wood? Could be. Oh yeah, I can see this. I can see this, Mason. Yeah, but they're going to be, they're going to be, they're going to make them all young.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Yeah. Don't make anyone young. Don't make anyone young. Make them old. See, if you Google Matt Wood, the first suggestion is Matt Wood, Wolverine. God, yeah, he's ugly in a beautiful way, you know what I mean? That's right. God, I'm loving.
Starting point is 00:11:30 In a way Hugh Jackman never could be. Couldn't do it. He's beautiful in a showman kind of way. He's beautiful in a song and dance kind of way. So yeah, he's beautiful like doing a big Rasmataz, you know? He's very good at doing a Rasmataz. He needs to calm down, though. Yeah, I go.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Do you think? Yeah, yeah. Give it a rest, mate. So yeah, that's also going to be the year we get Black Panther 3, because obviously we've got a new casting for that and whatever. So that's going to be a new era of exciting times at the Marvel, universe. Billy Cracker after Billy Cracker. You know it, Mason. Well, Mason, Variety are also saying Spice of Life. Dave Battista could be the new Cratos in the God
Starting point is 00:12:05 of War animated series, Amazon series, not animated live action. Remember, of course, Ryan Hurst was injured. I do remember that. Tore his bicep off, he's off the bone. And so... Rolled down the road. Yeah. Yeah. It's some dirt and dust. Oh, that's not going to be good. Now we'll just stick it back on. He's like, I'd rather you didn't. Please do a proper surgery on me. Yeah. So, they already shot four episodes, but they're reshooting the entire thing. And apparently they're like, well, the schedule that we're on because we're filming two series back to back, and we don't have, you know, if the actors are,
Starting point is 00:12:31 we can't wait and whatever, we've got to move forward. So, and also Callan, Calum Vincent's Atreus is also rumoured to be recast. Okay. Because he's a boy, and then, like, the boy's going to grow up and they're like, we need a different boy now, don't we? Different boy. What do you think about Dave Battista?
Starting point is 00:12:46 He's just got normal size to get. I was going to say, that's interesting because I'd be great. Yeah, but my understanding is, and I think we've probably talked about, this, that he's trying to move away from the cut type of movie where he's just shirtless and huge. Yeah. And going, ah. Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:02 He'd rather be shirtered and small than going, hmm. Let me peruse this. Let me peruse this. How will I do that, though? My vision's not that great. Oh, I know. Little glasses. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Yeah. So, I don't know if you saw, so Ryan Hurst released just a photo of him as Kratos. Because remember there was bicep on or bicep off? This was bicep on. Okay, terrific. I can see this. This is safe for work. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:24 this is before the accident. Because obviously the photo that was released was like a test photo or whatever. And people like, oh, we don't like this. That man looks like a butcher. Yeah. He looks like the butcher at my local butcher shop took his shirt off. Yeah, that looks good. It's good.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Like, he looks dry from what could have been. What could have been? And having seen him in The Odyssey as well. Yeah. He's great. Because he is mentor. Yeah, I hope he bounces back from this in all ways. Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:52 But I dictate Battista. it would be a, he'd crush it. Like, he'd do a really good job. And he also, I don't think he needs to be as big as he has been. Yeah, right. You know, he could, you know, you could turn it down a little. Is this through Amazon or Sony? Amazon, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Okay, right. I like it, paint the muscles on, can they? Pain them on, mate. Paint them on, it's fine. Just get a bunch of people to do it, VFX guys and then fire him. It's easy. People will get mad, though. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Because, you know, I'm sure he said things in the past that were, you know, somewhat progressive in some way. I didn't know he did that. Well, he did. That's upsetting to me. That's what I'm saying. A man who gets upset about things like that. That's right.
Starting point is 00:14:26 You can't, because I'm stoic, I'm a wall, but crumbling on the inside. Well, Kratos can't be, he has to be stoic, doesn't he? Has to be stoic all the time. Yeah. What a legend. They're going to ask him what he thinks about the God of War spin-off with the lady lead, and he's going to be like, that sounds good, and they're going to be like, we're going to be like, let's kill him.
Starting point is 00:14:42 Let's kill him, that's right. Don't kill him, please, though. No, don't kill him. I like him. In other news, or this, go. They could reuse the rock muscle suit from Moana. Oh yeah, that's a good suit. It looked good and you liked that movie too.
Starting point is 00:14:54 I didn't say it and I never looked. I think it's worth checking out. I don't think you'd think that at all. I don't think I think that. You are correct. You know, well, news, I guess. Sorry, what? Oh, well, I guess who cares?
Starting point is 00:15:05 Oh, well, I guess who cares? Is this a segment, oh, no, that's terrible news? Or whatever it's called it? Yeah. It's more indifference. Okay, tell me the news and I'll say, oh, no, it's terrible news and then you have to guess whether I'm being sincere or not. Okay, this is via the playlist.
Starting point is 00:15:19 David Finch's Squid Game spin-off series at Netflix has been cancelled. Oh, no, that's terrible news. You don't think that. I don't think that at all. You got me. One point to you. Put it on the tally. It's up there, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:15:31 Yeah. Could I just ride on the wall? Just etch a big... No, we're going to get a man in a jumpsuit and he's got a PlayStation logo on his face. He's going to put it on the wall. Is he holding a gun? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Yeah. We don't have to do that, though, do we? I mean, we paid the guy. We paid the guy's day rate, so, I mean, we can get him to leave. But, you know, okay, you can go. It's fine. Me? You can go.
Starting point is 00:15:50 I could stay. I could go. Okay. Yeah. Hey, folks, welcome. We've got a new co-host. A silent man holding a gun. In a jumpsuit.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Some sort of PlayStation thing on his face. Yeah, man. Sources gave a few reasons. Pointing to a long production process, changes at the executive level within Netflix. And Fincher taking on other projects like the Adventures of Cliff Booth, a movie that some people are looking forward to, I guess. Isn't that on hiatus as well?
Starting point is 00:16:12 Yeah, re-shoot, doing the reshoot at the moment or something. There was a trailer and whatever. Now, my, spoilers for the show Squid Game, the second season in which I did not see. Doesn't it end with Kate Blanchard? She's there? Yes, correct. Terrific.
Starting point is 00:16:23 But even then it was like, maybe this is the future, maybe this is just a fun cameo. Oh. Maybe that was Lydia Tar. It might have been. Squid Games in the Lydia Tar universe. You've seen the Tar Reverse, haven't you?
Starting point is 00:16:33 You liked it. I haven't seen it. I haven't seen it, I should say it. Get into it. Yeah. So anyway, I'm actually surprised they're not doing this because I feel like it's just a given
Starting point is 00:16:41 that this will probably do well, even if it's bad, at least in the first season. But Netflix have a huge second season drop-off problem. They sure do, yeah. Because they wait too long and then they dump every episode at once. And people are like, there was a second season of Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Yes, there was, actually. Wow. I didn't even watch the first season, but yes, they were. Well, I didn't notice because I was too busy collecting my retirement checks. What for, Mason? I took so long and then you retired. Yeah, and I'm doing fraud. I'm doing retirement fraud.
Starting point is 00:17:06 I'm not actually retired. Yeah, you're just doing the fraud part. But I'm busy doing the fraud. I mean, that would entertain you. It'll give your days. It's very entertained. It gives you a little thrill, you know? Yeah, of course.
Starting point is 00:17:16 You can get caught at any minute. Get my morning coffee, do some retirement check fraud. Dude, you could do that all the time on every day, I reckon. I do. Good. This is via THR. Let's see if you like this. Gareth Edwards has left the Jurassic Park slash world franchise.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Now, Gareth Edwards, he did the creator, right? Yes. That's Gareth Edwards. He did Rogue One, sort of. He did Monster or Monsters, whatever it's called. He did First Godzilla reboot. Not first Godzilla, the one from like 2014. Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:45 Which I think is good movie. And he's done some, has he done? He did the last Jurassic World movie. Which was Bug Jurassic World? No, you'll think... Oh, it was Scarlet Johansson. Yes, it was Jurassic Park 7 slash Jurassic World 4. That movie's fine.
Starting point is 00:18:01 I don't think it's fine. I think it's bad. Did you think that at the time? Yes. Okay, did I think it was fine at the time? Maybe what did I say? I think it was a real... It just felt like a rehash of previous Jurassic Park movies.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Let's check the tape. Garth Edwards has done it again. This is a good movie. This is my favorite movie. That's crazy, I said that. But I guess it's true. So he was attached to director Jurassic Park 8 slash Jurassic World 5.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Okay. But creative differences had him stepping away from the project. It just felt like a waste of his talents as well, like what they had him do in that movie. Yeah. I think it lacked the scale of like the things that he's kind of good at. But you've forgotten, and I've only just remember. It was just shooting DNA into...
Starting point is 00:18:43 I've just remembered there was another island. And they went to that other island. So what if there was another island? Another or another island? Yes. Okay. And what's there? Another weird dinosaur they made for no reason.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Bingo. A hideous, uncontrollable monster. Yes. Hmm. Well, that sounds really good. It's dinosaur DNA plus all the rubbish they've swept up off the streets. Like all the, you know, all the, you know, soda containers and, you know, whatever. This sounds really scary.
Starting point is 00:19:14 It's a big mass. And it's like a commentary on. consumerism. I think so. It is, yeah. And the way that we live in a disposable society. Yep. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:19:22 And it's always on its phone. And it's always on its phone? That's the only way you can stick past it. What's it even looking at? It's just scrolling. It's just doom scrolling, you know? Yeah, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:30 Okay. That sounds really scary, actually. Jurassic World, the big wet mass. That's always on its phone. That's right. And that's scary. You would find that scary? Yeah, I mean, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:41 If I saw that, I would definitely have questions. Yeah. That's the tagline. We've got questions. So your creative differences. They wanted to do another island. Yeah, that's it. That's what it is. Because he came on very late in the day in that last one.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Because he's great at run and gun filmmaking. Was it going to be a Truvorrow or something? No, it was going to be the guy, one of the John Wick guys. David Leach. They said the release date and they're like, this is happening. The re leech date. That's what he always calls it. And what's my re leech date? And they go,
Starting point is 00:20:17 David. David, David, David, David, please. Yeah. You're fired. David Kep will, of course, write this next movie. He wrote the original one and the last one. The Kepster, sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:27 That's why it's got some of the stuff that was missing from the first book that's not in the first movie. The River Raff scene, which is the only good scene in that movie, maybe. Scarlett to Johansson, Mahershullah Ali, and Jonathan Bailey will apparently return. They were good. I liked them in it. Yeah, sure. You didn't like a minute?
Starting point is 00:20:43 I don't think anything about it. I can struggling to... Oh, because they were... Oh, they weren't Dr. Elid Grette. It's not even that. And Dr. Other Lady. It's nothing to do with that.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Just shooting DNA. Eli Sattler. Yeah, shooting DNA running around, recycled ideas. They also got rid of the concept that dinosaurs were in the real world. They just went, that stopped happening. Yeah. And they're like, people are bored of dinosaurs, actually. That's not true.
Starting point is 00:21:06 You cannot lie to me like that. It just can't happen, Mason. Wow. You've really changed your tune on the last Jurassic World. Anyway, Garrette Edwards will apparently return to original films, which, yeah, good on him. Terrific. Good on him.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Good on him. All right. We've got the last bit of, oh, no, is this terrible news or whatever. What if a robot had a big hole at its head? I don't know, Gareth Edwards. You tell me. That seems like a you question to answer.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Yeah. Well, he still seems to be fine. Yeah, probably because of computers. Variety. Spice of life. They spoke to, who was it? Someone higher up at Marvel. I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:21:45 Sony Marvel. Okay. Tom Rothman, maybe? Maybe, I don't know. Don't look at me like I would know. God, let me just... I got the quote, but I don't have the man. You know, how can you know the quote if you don't have a man? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:57 This is Ricky PlayStation? Sony's VP, Ricky PlayStation. Sony picture CEO, Tom Rothman, I was correct. It's good that I know all the CEOs. Yeah, it's good, isn't it? Yeah. That's a good information to have. The Venom trilogy, like, are they going to be more...
Starting point is 00:22:11 They asked this and this, sorry. The Venom trilogy was huge, but the other spinoffes like Craven the Hunter and Madam Web were misfires. didn't those work? And Tom Rothman said, who I know, ultimately the audiences wasn't satisfied enough with them. Whether that's a fair assessment of those movies, who knows? That's howling into the wind.
Starting point is 00:22:28 The audience is the boss, and they didn't respond. It's as simple as that. So why didn't they work? Well, the audiences didn't like them. Yeah, we know, Tom Rothman. We're telling you that. We're telling you, Tom Rothman. Dig a little deeper.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Have some self-reflection for once, Tom Rothman. Well, about this. Otherwise, you're out on Ricky PlayStation's in. What? That's right. He's ready, too. The previous CEO's son, Ricky PlayStation. Will Nepo baby him right in?
Starting point is 00:22:54 Rothman, you're on thin ice. Doesn't think, it doesn't say him that way because he just had big Spider-Man. Oh yeah, I forgot about that. All right. You're safe for one more week, Rothman. Rothman. But Ricky PlayStation is waiting. They also asked, are there plans to keep developing Sony's universe of Marvel characters?
Starting point is 00:23:10 Come on, man. That's what he said. Come on, man. Be serious. What do you reckon? Don't disrespect me like this. right now we don't know we've never looked at as
Starting point is 00:23:20 the Sony Marvel universe you're a liar yes you did you keep trying to sneak it in yeah man you keep trying to make movies where somebody finally somebody one person on earth
Starting point is 00:23:33 will be like hey was this a Marvel movie I think this is a Marvel movie it'll never happen Tom Rothman you can't do it you are incapable we looked at it if they were worthwhile movies to make with the characters. At the moment, there are none in active development.
Starting point is 00:23:50 Wow. They have to make Spider-Man spinoffs, though. Yes, correct. Or Spider-Man movies, or they lose the rights. The Destin Daniel Creighton, who directed last week's Spider-Man movie, he's doing Naruto in between. And they'll probably wait for him, which means the next one's at least four years away. I'm going to look up the plot of Naruto. I don't know what it is. It's a guy in a headband. Yeah, he's got a fox tail or something, doesn't he? Some weird shit. Apparently it's good, I've never said it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:19 I don't know if he does have a tail. I think he does. He's a young socially isolated ninja who seeks recognition from his peers and dreams of becoming the Hokage, the leader of his village. Good for him. He does have many tales at sense. Oh, does he?
Starting point is 00:24:32 Or something. All right then, all right, good, great. Neruto, how many tail? That's a good question I'm asking. He's got nine tails. Okay. Or something? No, he's the host of the nine tail.
Starting point is 00:24:45 That's what I said. It's what I said You did And the tails do different things I can tell you Yeah, go on One is sand manipulation raccoon One is a flaming two-tow cat
Starting point is 00:24:53 One is a giant turtle-like monster Four is a red Does he turn into these things? I don't know A red-ferred monkey Five is a horse dolphin hybrid Six is a large slug Seven is a wigged beetle-like creature
Starting point is 00:25:04 Eight is an ox Octopus hybrid And nine is a massive nine-tower fox I think the creator of Naruto Either got all their ideas From their toddler child Or they themselves are a toddler child And he's one of his tails is a horse, but it's also a dolphin.
Starting point is 00:25:20 And then one is does a sand. And the other is a mermaid. That's good. Oh, Nerutu himself does not naturally have a tail. Classic. But the host does or something. Well, the thing that he can do, nine. I'm not getting into this.
Starting point is 00:25:34 I refuse. It's too late, basically. I've already involved you. I've already planted the seed of creativity and love for this character in your mind. You don't even know. This is Inception, but... I do love Naruto, who's a guy, I think. He's a ninja, I love that.
Starting point is 00:25:51 He has tails or doesn't. Conceptually, I love that. Yeah, cool. So there you go. That's where... I like how he's bold and unafraid. And he's got a headband. And he's got a headband, and sometimes there's a horse dolphin.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Or his friends with a horse dolphin? I like that. Do you like how some people listening to this know a lot about him? And they're upset by this. Yeah, I like that. I think that's good. That's the one thing I genuinely do like. Oh, it's actually got a lot of depth.
Starting point is 00:26:15 No, it doesn't. So those are all newses that are happening. Love the news. Oh, no, that's terrible news on the Sony spin-off thing? It's terrible news, yeah. I think they would if they could. 100% if they were capable, which they are obviously not. No.
Starting point is 00:26:29 Just the idea, I mean, you know, this has been talked to death, but the idea that they just went, let's make all these obvious villains heroes. Let's try that. Because we've got decades of comic book history of them being villains. Let's just turn it around for no reason. Let's see if we can make that work. Mason, I'm with you. You don't need to convince me of it.
Starting point is 00:26:47 Bearing in mind we're bad at making movies. That's not true. They maybe made the Borderlands movie, I think, which Eli Roth made. One of the worst movies. Atrocious. I might not have been there, more it was. Anyway, last minute of news is, you know this James Cameron fellow? I know James Cameron.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Director of some of the Good Terminator movies and the Avatar movies and the Titanic movies and the True Lies movies and one of the Alien movies and other movies. Big Jim. Big gym of the movies. Big gym of the movies. He was asked about returning to the world of Pandora for Avatar 4 at the Canadian Arts Award show thing. And he said, that's the question of the hour for me.
Starting point is 00:27:26 There's been momentum in the Avatar universe for 21 years at this point because we started in 2005. So this is the point where I'm looking at the landscape and asking, what are the other stories I want to tell? What are the other stories? How many of them do I need to direct myself versus writing and or producing with other filmmakers. How many I've got to direct?
Starting point is 00:27:47 How many do I have to do? Really, tell me. I'm 71 years old. I started with, what will do the most good? I put that in block letters at the top, and I started looking at all the projects I'm fond of asking, how's this going to improve our condition? How's this going to make the world better for our kids?
Starting point is 00:28:04 So true. I haven't made those decisions yet. I'm still in this liminal state of mapping out, the last act, if you will. And I don't know of my last act, last a year or 20 years, basically saying that he might not do Avatar, which I think is great news. I would love, I mean, I don't care if they continue, but I would like to see him have a swing
Starting point is 00:28:25 at something else. So anything else. It's been long enough, man. I like James Cameron. Yep. I like all the divorces he's done. And the question, you got to ask is what else he got in the tank. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:35 You know what I mean? Not another Terminator sequel. You don't have to do another one. It's fine. It's actually fine not to do that. But a different thing. I'm sure he's got he's got heaps of ideas. Maybe he doesn't have any ideas.
Starting point is 00:28:46 No, he says he's got a whiteboard and says what will do the most good at the top. Okay. So that's good. Yeah. What project does he like and is excited by? Yeah, I don't know. I mean, you could do an Alita movie. You produced the last one.
Starting point is 00:28:58 Remember Alita Battle Angel? Also remember a leader Battle Angel. Big Eyes, Edward Naut was in it. I remember. It screens there. You're remembering a lot about this movie. Yeah, hell yeah. Big Sword?
Starting point is 00:29:08 Did you remember that? Didn't remember that. It's coming back. It's coming back. I think it was Amma, yeah. Yeah, cool. That's great. So I know, we'll see where he's at.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Should we move on to the next segment, which is the segment we're doing? Let's do it. All right. A few weeks back, Mason, you probably recall, as we all recall. I don't recall. We did a topic on the best and worst to adaptations of comics. What works, what doesn't? Why do they work and why do they doesn't?
Starting point is 00:29:28 Mr. Speaker, I don't recall. Okay. Well, I'm telling you that that's the thing that we did. Now, we don't normally come back to topic so soon, but we thought, hey, sometimes we do a topic, and then we go, we're going to come back to this, and then we never do. And then people are like, what do you want to come back to the topic? And we're like, who are you?
Starting point is 00:29:44 Yeah. What are you to us? Yeah. Yeah. But what we've had happened here. Yes. And often, I should say, we sometimes don't do that because they're like, oh, we don't remember what we talked about or whatever.
Starting point is 00:29:53 But Maisie, who does incredible work, editing and also in the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates Group and a bunch of other stuff has gone through and given us a list of things we already talked about. That's correct. Which I won't read out here. But you know. You can go back and listen to that if you want. You can do it. more of a reminder to us. You can do it. You can do it. So thank you so much, Maisie, for that.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Thank you, Maisie. So we're taking these also from the, there was a Facebook thread about this and also a Patreon thread. So we're continuing that, those people who did comment. Here's the thing we'll put right at the start of this segment. There will be spoils for Spider-Man brand new day. There we go. Time codes are below. Rob Collings did that. Thank you, Tom Collings. I had a Tom Collings recently. It's pretty good. Collins, not Collings. It's a drink mason. I know. Mason, do you have one to start with and what's it about? Christopher says that one of the best changes
Starting point is 00:30:44 is shaking up and changing pretty much everything about the Guardians of the Galaxy. So they fit better as a personal expression from a filmmaker instead of just being like a Diet MCU Star Wars or something boring like that. Yeah, absolutely. But then Andy says, the Guardians of the Galaxy lineup
Starting point is 00:30:59 just not even remotely being the actual Guardians lineup from the first comics or the 90s run and them choosing a fairly new lineup that I didn't know or have any connection with. He's saying that as an edge. There's a negative. They did pay homage to other lineups later and the films were great, which helps. But when I first saw it, when I first saw it, I hated the team they used.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Yeah, interesting. I think they were able to get away with that as well because it was never a really popular team. So, you know, if they did X-Men now and they did a weird X-Men lineup, people would probably really... I saw an interesting thread, I think perhaps on X. Oh, you love X, the everything in my banking. And do your crypto scams. I don't have it here, but I saw somebody saying that the reason James Gunn likes Because they were James Gunn movies, obviously, and he's gone on to work for the DCU,
Starting point is 00:31:43 that he likes the idea of old characters that he can make changes to. Absolutely. And nobody, and, you know, a very small number of people care. Yeah. Which, you know, to... There's a freedom in that. Well, there's a freedom to that. And, you know, and again, I think that, as evidenced here by the two different opinions of that,
Starting point is 00:32:02 that some people feel like he's just... He wants pre-existing characters, so he doesn't have to design his own character. Yeah. But then he's like, but I'll give him different characterizations or I'll change a great deal of the context around the characters. A coward's behavior is what you're saying. A coward's behavior. Not what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Some people on the internet are saying. Yeah. You know, because he completely changed peacemaker and vigilante and those kind of characters. Do you think that's why he was reluctant to like to take on the DCU initially and then even direct a Superman movie because you're taking on the character that... You can't really change that much. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Yeah. Can't make him a coward like you. You know? Or James Garne? I pick, pick one. Yeah. I think, I mean, the bad thing my guard is there's a lot of people have also tried to adopt that formula into other things. Borderlands, we just talked about.
Starting point is 00:32:47 Correct. Yes. Atrocious. Yeah. So there's, but that's not, that's not the movies for. Also, James Gunn just loves found families. I think any way he can kind of, yeah. I kind of feel like, because Peacemaker and Vigilandie did cross paths in the 80s and the comic books a couple of times.
Starting point is 00:33:03 And I think he just went, that's the, that's the, their friends. Their friends, found family. That's the start of the found family. Make him dumb asses. My wife's in his family too. That's right. Wife's there. Found family.
Starting point is 00:33:13 He's there. He's there. He's my family. Yeah. But how do we feel about this? I like it. I mean, I always liked it.
Starting point is 00:33:20 They're good movies. Yeah. They're three good movies and I don't care enough about the guy. I mean, it's so good also that they've just changed the comics where it's just like, well, this is really just the ten now. This is the lineup now, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:30 But I don't know. I've never, I haven't read really, like I've read some guardians, but I can't think of anything specific. All the old stuff and the 90s stuff is very sincere as well, I think. So, you know, which didn't really work with the kind of the MCU at the time. No, I think you also launched it at the perfect time where the MCU was coming up.
Starting point is 00:33:49 And it was the gun is like a, it was a reasonable hit. But they got stronger as they went and then they worked into the Avengers or whatever. So the timing was just perfect as well for all of that. I love timing. They're all good movies, Mason. I think they are. That's a good one from whoever said that and whoever disagreed with that. It was Christopher and Andy.
Starting point is 00:34:06 two arch nemesies in the planet broadcasting great mate's Facebook group that's lovely to me Harris says as far as for the worst can I say
Starting point is 00:34:14 Venom as a blanket for all three movies even if you're going to eliminate Spider-Man can you at least make Eddie Brock something interesting especially with that third one totally
Starting point is 00:34:23 I mean why any of it you know I mean the first one's like it's probably the best right I think it is but even by the end
Starting point is 00:34:31 they're like God remember all these good times that we had and there's like a little look back over and it's like what do we even looking at it. I don't like any of this. Why are you nostalgic for this? It's also
Starting point is 00:34:41 just a man screaming and eating garbage for three movies. Because they've also Yeah, and they've also changed the character and it's, it's for a very long time. It doesn't have to be Eddie Brock. No, and for a very long time, Venom as a character as in the symbiote didn't talk or really like you only, you only understood that that thing as Eddie Brock being like telling the other characters about what it was thinking and what happened. It didn't have its own voice. Yeah. Which is an interesting take, I think.
Starting point is 00:35:10 And Spider-Man. And the whole Spider-Man, like a Spider-Man thing. And he's just fighting other goo guys. Yeah. He doesn't fight anything else other than a gooie guy for three movies in a row. Didn't even fight a vulture. No.
Starting point is 00:35:22 No, he didn't. No. Remember he was briefly in the mainline MCU universe for a second. Yeah, for five minutes. Yeah. I mean, if there's one good thing that, from those movies, I think it is the buddy comedy concept of them sharing one body and not getting along. And eating garbage.
Starting point is 00:35:39 And eating garbage together. Yeah. But you can't then take that in. Like that, just the very idea of it sort of, you can't then have a, you can't put him in the Spider-Man MCU and just have him, have this tortured kind of relationship with the character. Because it doesn't work anymore because he's a, it's two goofy guys who have no connection with Spider-Man at all. Two goofs, Mason. Two goofs. Harris also said, for best, I think Legion is a really underrated show that uses its premise well while eliminating pretty much all other X-Men.
Starting point is 00:36:12 It even incorporated the time travel element from Legion Quest in the final season. I've only seen season one, which I really enjoyed. I should go back to it. But, yeah, I think, I mean, yeah, because there's so much, like, Legion in the comics is like, God, how do you even start this? And I think the fact that they did isolate him and that, like, that's an example of that working. Like that's a good idea to do it to that character Because how do you do X-Men Legion on TV I guess just like the way they did it
Starting point is 00:36:37 Or at least the season that I saw, Mason What else? Chris says I thought the winter, are we talking about the Winter Soldier? I don't think so. I don't think so either. I don't think we did it either.
Starting point is 00:36:49 We did Civil War. Civil War being basically a whole different thing. That is true. Do we talk about the Winter Soldier? I don't think we did. It's like something we would have. It was like to make a major list. Chris says I thought
Starting point is 00:36:59 that the Winter Soldier storyline worked well in the movies. But is that because it's a great movie, or did they adapt it well? The Bucky Reveal couldn't really have the right amount of impact for anyone. As comic book fans already knew the twist, and I'm not sure casual audiences cared that much. Also paid brewbreaker, he says. Yes.
Starting point is 00:37:15 But I think we have another different sort of... Oh, Jordan says Bucky being Captain America's best friend instead of a wildly irresponsible assigned kid's sidekick secret assassin was a great choice. What would you prefer? I kind of like the version where he's a murderous child. Absolutely. The comic...
Starting point is 00:37:30 So, for people... don't know in the in the in the original comic books from the you know the 1930s and 40s I guess every superhero had a kid sidekick and that continued forever so his sidekick in the comic was bucky who's just a little kid who's like hello good good for you captain america and in the original story like from the 40s he's a little kid yeah he's actually i'll polish your shield sir and he's just kind of a good-natured kid who tags along for some reason and then in the when Winter Soldier debuted, the retcon reveal was that, well, he was the one who did all the dirty work. He was actually a sort of, you know, I guess he was an early teen and he was a grubby
Starting point is 00:38:12 deviant. He was the one who assassinated, you know, diplomats and poisoned wells of villages or whatever so Captain America could come in and sock the Nazis in the jaw and be the public face of it, where Bucky was the deviant. Yeah, he was the deviant, yeah, which I love as a comic book concept. But I guess you can't do, you can't. You can't. have him he's not if you were like okay Bucky's a murderous child yeah that doesn't work in a movie right
Starting point is 00:38:38 that's hard to kind of yeah I mean they do learn into him being a murderer but it's after the brainwashy yeah and whatever whatever yeah yeah no that's yeah no I think I think also that's an example like a really good example of taking what they built in the MCU
Starting point is 00:38:53 presumably on purpose yes and like it and like adapting like taking what they had and just adapting it perfectly You know, they didn't try to shoehorn it into the comic version of the character, do you know what I mean? It was they already built their own thing. The official Carson said, I always thought Ultron was a bummer in the MCU, having him as a one-off villain, writing Hank Pym out of creation and giving him lips. Yeah. A lot of people think that, because like age of Ultron is not really, it's like a weekend for one.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Yeah, and I always remember it as being more of the same. Yeah. Just of the, it was just Avengers. Indistinguishable Grey Army. Avengers again. Yeah. But not as fun or innovator. Yeah, they did drop that big city and kill Baron Zemo's family though.
Starting point is 00:39:33 I forgot about that. It's probably important for him, I guess. Yeah, it's probably, yeah, that's changed the things. As well, Ultron in the comic books, he's kind of, you know, this relentless threat. You can't kill him. Yeah. He's driven by this unbelievable hate for everyone. Whereas this is just kind of like. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:51 I don't like Tony Stark and other stuff as much. Yeah. Also, there's that moment, do you remember in the movie where he upgrades his body? Yeah. And he tears through the old one and everybody in the cinema, was like everybody's experience in the world was like, what happened there? Oh, that's an upgrade, is it? He looks the same.
Starting point is 00:40:07 He doesn't look the same guy. But at least he built that Paul Bettney body. He didn't even get to use it, though. That's embarrassing for him. Yeah. But apparently we'll see more of him in Lee. Vision quest. And he was in that Doctor Strange sequel, sort of.
Starting point is 00:40:21 In the dimension with the X-Men and the Inhumans. Is he? They've got an Ultron bot like force working for them. Oh, yeah, that's right. I don't think it's him. Oh, yeah. And he's also appears in what if, right? Yes, he does.
Starting point is 00:40:34 Is that James Spader? Is that James Spader? See, that's close to the comic book version. Yes. A character who is, you know, always on the cusp of achieving ultimate power. Yeah. And he hates Hank Pim. Absolutely. Yeah, I think it's James Spader.
Starting point is 00:40:46 I might be wrong. No, sorry, that's Ross Mark Wand, who does everybody's voice. He does, that's true. And they don't want to do it. That's interesting. Is he also Red Skull? He is Red Skull. He is Red Skull.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Since he goes weaving, he doesn't want to be Red Skull. The official castles, Carson says, though, my favorite change by fire, though, is making Vulture into an actual human character rather than having him just be a villain of the week for Spider-Man. He really felt like a perfect foil for Peter in that movie. Truly, Obama, he's stuck with Jared Letto forever. I don't think he is. I think he would have been zapped back.
Starting point is 00:41:16 Yeah. Because that's... Are we in the time period where we can now spoil Spider-Man brand-new day? I mean, all the articles have, and it's made a billion dollars, so probably, yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, that's a new one. on the list, isn't it? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:41:29 I mean, and we, it's kind of too recent to talk about, but of course, big spoilers for Spider-Man, obviously. Yep. Sadie Sink is Jane Gray. And how do you feel about her characterization? At this point, a week out. I mean, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:41:46 So I read recently, I don't know if this is true, that the original script for this was just going to be a telepathic character of some description. Yeah. And then they cast Sadie Sink and they went, or red hair. Well, this will do. This will be fine.
Starting point is 00:41:59 This is good as any, isn't it? This is great and good. Because her power set is not really... Will they ever use this again? I guess they will. The jumping thing. Yeah, the jumping thing. Yeah, the jumping thing.
Starting point is 00:42:06 I don't think she'll need to do it in the future because she can do anything, really, you know? Their powers expanded beyond the jump person to person. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't mind it also because, like, it's a character who, like, Jean Grey does have a torturous past and contendious related with her family and hates people a lot all the time or whatever.
Starting point is 00:42:23 But, you know, she also learned a lesson. You can go inside Peter Parker's mind and get a hug from his aunt. That's so true, isn't it? It'll make you feel. better. Look, and again, I, speaking of the vulture, yeah, I, and, you know, with the new information that we have that we already knew that most of the, uh, the, the, the supervillains that Spider-Man faces in Spider-Man brand new day are just montage cameo characters. Yes, absolutely. And that's good? I don't think it's good. I would have loved a movie that's just him fighting them. Yeah. The Sinicist
Starting point is 00:42:51 Six or something. Yeah. Well, they're probably, it's not really a change from the comic books. I mean, if anything, they are generally pretty accurate. to the comic. Yeah, they are, absolutely. In the nanosecond we saw them. Oh, yeah, tombstone and whatever. Tarantula blade feet. Yep.
Starting point is 00:43:05 So on. Yeah. He did smash the Scorpion into that cop car really hard head first. That's true, he did. Scorpion's not welded into that suit, is he? No, I don't think so. He normally is in the comics.
Starting point is 00:43:15 I don't think so. Weld him into that thing. Make sure he can't get out. That's a retcon, I don't like. Yeah, that's right. Was that me or was that you, Mason? I don't know. Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Robert Declan says, should something be said for Sin City? It was a big deal at the time. We never seen such a distinct style transferred so successfully. I think there is something to be said for Sin City and Sin City too probably.
Starting point is 00:43:37 And the Spirit. And the spirit. We did talk about the Spirit. We did do Sin City as well. It's on the list. But Masey wouldn't have missed it though. No. I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:43:45 No. Yeah. And if she did, there's hell to pay. So I remember... I mean Macy to pay. Yes. Because she's a great employee. I remember being blown away
Starting point is 00:43:54 by Sin City at the time, visually and because after saying something like sky camp in the world tomorrow which is essentially like the similar kind of technology and it's just kind of like a blah kind of looking movie and like sin city was just very distinct and just it felt so intentional and uh just unique it's i'm surprised i didn't try to pump out a sequel sooner that's probably why the second one didn't do as well because it it was like years before we got to pull up to that i mean we did get max pine didn't we it's a good movie yeah great a lot of people talk about how that's a good movie yeah Kenny says the best
Starting point is 00:44:27 Iron Man being a quippy jerk instead of being an alcoholic meanie and then worst everyone in the MCU becoming quippy. Yeah. Yeah. I don't like that as much. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:39 I mean, we're going to need a new Iron Man in the reboot. Sure. Is it just Robert Downey Jr. again? Coming back as Iron Man. Correct. I hope they don't need to. I don't need to do that.
Starting point is 00:44:49 And also maybe we don't need to. But he doesn't need to, but he's got insane super rich disease. True. Brain disease. But maybe we don't even need. eat an Iron Man yes or for a while you know maybe yeah i wonder about that i want because what they i think they have learned is people don't necessarily like people taking over the mantle
Starting point is 00:45:07 of a previous you know we got we got we got a brand new bird yeah captain america absolutely i mean that could be something to do with you know they're not giving him a chance and they didn't put him in a good movie but uh i don't know they when they do this reboot i guess where we are we holding off on a new Thor and new Captain America and new Iron Man? Yeah. Or we just throwing them in straight away and being like...
Starting point is 00:45:29 Yeah, they are. Or are they doing a handover? I don't know. I mean, I feel like... I mean, because they're already planning towards like new Black Panther, new X-Men and whatever. Maybe that's gonna be the focal point.
Starting point is 00:45:39 Yeah. Keep Spider-Man around, probably Dr. Strange and if he doesn't get killed in the movies or whatever. I think they might have to do a handover scene. Yeah. Like literally in the void.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Yeah. You get Chris Evans. You get Chris Hemsworth. You get Robert Downey Jr. And then you guys. And they do a big handover They do a six-way handshake and they go, I respect you. I respect you and I know you're going to do a good job.
Starting point is 00:45:59 I chose you and I think you shouldn't earn as much money as we do. That's right. That's right. But good luck. Yeah. Yeah. God. I hope they don't do that scene.
Starting point is 00:46:09 I hope. I hope they do it exactly as I've scripted it just now. And then they have to pay me. What's that? Then they have to pay me. They would, wouldn't they? Yeah. Harris says, I know this might be controversial, but there are two changes in the Batman that I
Starting point is 00:46:19 disliked. So the Batman. The Batman. The Batman. The Batman. The Batman. The first being the comment. convoluted reasoning and mob ties behind the death of his parents.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Yeah. I didn't mind that. And I'm not sure if this counts, but the second was their version of the Riddler. I know there's a different version of the Ridler so there can be a direct adaptation. So there can't be a direct adaptation, but he lacked, but I felt he liked the fun, witty spark I like in Riddler. Sometimes Riddler's buff now as well or whatever, isn't it? It's true.
Starting point is 00:46:47 Yeah. Yeah. I like this version of the Riddler. I was going to say it's the first version of the Riddler. seen on screen. That's not true because there was in the Batman, well the 66 movie, but also the Jim Carrey version, which I do not like. I think that's a waffle.
Starting point is 00:47:01 Yeah, it's hard to do, and that's why the character was retired in the comics, I think, for so many years that it's just, he existed in a, the motivation of the character to retire in the comic books was that he didn't belong in the world anymore. He was just like, well, this
Starting point is 00:47:17 is an era of giant typewriters and, you know, I leave a funny riddle as after I rob a bank or whatever, and that's not what people are looking for anymore, so I'm retiring. They don't like that. Yeah. They like serial murderers. They like psychosexual serial murderers.
Starting point is 00:47:34 Don't we all, Mason? In rubber suits. Don't we all, Mason? We do. Here's one from Stuart. Stuart Little? Literally, Stuart Little. Stuart W. Little.
Starting point is 00:47:43 You know that W. is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Is it Mason? That's what it says. Maybe this is a pseudonym for his real name. Did you know Stuart Little? is a mouse, yes. No, he's a man. Oh, he's a boy, isn't it? He's a boy that looks like a mouse.
Starting point is 00:47:57 I don't think that's good. Well, too bad. Deal with it in your regular life. But it's interesting, this is from five weeks ago because this is when we recorded the original one, bad, MCU Spider-Man movies, skipping the immediate conversation that followed Art May discovering Peter's secret
Starting point is 00:48:13 and jumping straight to her being cool with it and encouraging him doing it. Spider-Man brand-new day, they put it in. They did, absolutely. They read Stuart Little's mind. Yes. And they pushed aside all the cheese. Yep.
Starting point is 00:48:22 And pushed aside all that cheese. Does he like cheese? Because he's a man. He's not a mouse. You're a man. You like cheese. I like cheese, but not so much that I've got a lot in my mind. You have to push aside to look at a memory.
Starting point is 00:48:32 For me, it's non-stop cheese. What? Different types are just like the cartoon kind of cheese that a mouse would like. It doesn't matter, but I'm always, I can see the stink lines coming off it and I'm floating. Those are your stink lines. I'm being lewd. It's a mix of stink lines, all right? Okay, all right.
Starting point is 00:48:48 It's a beautiful synchronicity of stink lines. is what it is. I believe it, Mason. Thank you. But I think that's interesting. Yeah, absolutely. Well, I hope that that scene then got you what you wanted. Hyped.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Was it a hype moment an aura? No. For you, Stuart Little? Yeah. I thought that scene in Brandy day was really good. And it was a nice. Yeah, I agree. It filled a gap, but also, that didn't necessarily need to be filled.
Starting point is 00:49:14 And also, you didn't need to know that to, like, appreciate it, I think. It was an immediate narrative disconnect with the initial reaction he had and it robbed the audience of a heartfelt scene. Well, we got it. Yeah, man. That Daniel, Destin, Destin Daniel Cretton, and that Thomas Holland. He's done it again. And the writer that was brought in from Challenges, who was not credited, I learned
Starting point is 00:49:30 this way. He's done it again. Yeah, they brought him in. Damn. And he did that same. Did he? Yeah. I think that's important.
Starting point is 00:49:36 But he's not credited. Well, for a variety of reasons. Take this out, Collings. He's not credited here either. If that's what he wants. Also, this is from Stuart as well. Also, the MCU's bizarre insistence on never having its version of Uncle Ben discussed in any way.
Starting point is 00:49:50 Yeah, that is weird. And making the sole reference to him in that universe, it is a suitcase that get destroyed and nobody cares. That is true. Is it time for Uncle Ben? Yeah, probably. But do they need to? Because Aunt May is like his Uncle Ben.
Starting point is 00:50:04 Yeah, I don't think they need to anymore. As much as I would have referred to there was an Uncle Ben in this, I think they have covered it with Aunt May at this point. It's treaded, it's treaded earth. Do you want him, should we have him still be alive or something? I mean, they could do that, sure. I think people would be upset. Maybe they're doing that because they're trialing it in one of the car.
Starting point is 00:50:22 Because you said he's in prison, right? Apparently, yeah. In that Spider-Man. There was going to be a Spider-Man spin-off show, actually. So maybe that's... And he's in prison because that carjacker tried to steal his car. And he killed him, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:34 Yeah. Or he heard somebody was like, I'm thinking about stealing a car. Yeah. And so he killed him. That's why. That's how Martin Sheen went out, except he got killed. That's right. Don't get involved, Martin Sheen.
Starting point is 00:50:44 Don't get involved. User underscore Name says, one of the worst is having rogue not fly, use super strength, or hook up with Gambit. Those are the three things that she does. That's three things she's known for. Or Rob, Captain Marvel of her powers. Yeah. Which they couldn't do in the X-Men universe.
Starting point is 00:51:00 No, but I mean, I think they'll straight up do it immediately in this. In Secret Wars. That'd be pretty crazy. Is it Kaylee Spainty? Do we know that for sure? Well, that's one of the rumors, yeah. But no, we don't know. Kiki Palmer wanted to do it as well.
Starting point is 00:51:12 Oh, yeah. Yeah. I think they're going to do it. Also, that's how you sideline Captain Marvel in this. Because she's invincible. Because she's invincible, what have you. You go, you have a steal some. of Captain Marvel's powers
Starting point is 00:51:23 and she's like, I've got this flight and the supervision strength and I'm invulnerable or whatever. Yeah. And then she uses those for the, you know, duration of the movies and then Captain Marvel comes back. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:51:32 You've got to Professor X Captain Marvel. So you put her in a coma. Yeah, put her in a goddamn coma. And then Ray Larson gets to be in that movie and get paid to be in that movie. That's right. And then, but she doesn't have to do anything. You can lie down.
Starting point is 00:51:43 And she gives us some of her money. That's right. For having, because it's our idea. But yeah, Rogue is also. You notice most of this show is panhandling to celebrities. And I think it's, It's good. It's going to work eventually.
Starting point is 00:51:53 That's why I started it. Yeah. But I think also, yeah, Rogue is like a super powerful mutant, and they don't really take advantage of that at all in the movies. Yeah. Like, but yeah, because you can do all of those things. You remember in X-Men 3, there's that big showdown at the end, and she just doesn't go.
Starting point is 00:52:09 She goes to get some mutant cure and is like, I'll do this other thing. And she doesn't even hook up with Taylor Kitch, who's gambit. That's right. She's hooking up with Bobby Drake Iceman. Wow. Yeah. So there you go, Mason. Wow.
Starting point is 00:52:20 What else we got? Well, Nick says, changing Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne from millionaires to billionaires, changes them from people with enough money to become superheroes to psychos who could fix all the problems they claim to fight against, but choose not to. But then Lucas has said, is that really an adaptational change or just adjusting for inflation? Also, I think they are billionaires in the... Yeah. Everything's really expensive now. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:52:42 You know? Do you mean in real life? Yes. Yes, absolutely. That is true. I mean, you know, you couldn't even have a... If they were just millionaires, you couldn't even have a scene where they go down. the shops and they buy six things and they're like $50.
Starting point is 00:52:53 We're out of our millionaire money. Yeah. We've used it at all. Yeah. I mean, it's just... Grace and we're out of our millionaire money. It's just a way for them to just be like, it's not a problem.
Starting point is 00:53:07 They can do anything. And you don't have to question why, you know? How much you think an Iron Man suit would cost for real? Billion dollars. Like one that actually works? Billion dollars. At least a billion dollars. Multiple billions of dollars, I would guess.
Starting point is 00:53:17 Yeah. But I guess once you've got the assembly line going. Yeah, it's get a car on. Just crank it up, man. Crank it up, crank it out. Yeah. Jim says, worst, X-Men pick any of the Dark Phoenix saga movie adaptations. The X-3 version suffers from being over-stuffed.
Starting point is 00:53:31 Did we not cover these already? Wow, wild. Oh, maybe we did. No, we didn't. We didn't see here. Cramming stuff in three or four other storylines in front of what should just be Gene's story. Second, Dark Phoenix makes weird changes to the character, and because of the prior film suffers under the baggage of continuity.
Starting point is 00:53:47 Thank you. And again, not giving any meaningful time to Gene's character. to so all the beats fall flat. And also, why is it so dark? And why have they done so many of them? Don't do it again. Please, Marvel Studios, don't do it to the Dark Phoenix saga again. I mean, I'm guessing it's because it's one of the known popular X-Men stories.
Starting point is 00:54:03 Yeah, because they keep making movies out of us. Yeah. Did they do it in the X-Men 97 as well? They did in the original? Yeah, they did. Yeah, yeah. Okay, so yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:11 Stop it. There are others. Yeah. You should pick up the storyline where they all went to Australia. Mm-hmm. And you could film it in Australia, and then they could give us their money. We'll panhead. We'll literally pan-hand.
Starting point is 00:54:21 We will do that. And say, hello, Hugh Jackman. You're rich, right? Yeah. Give us some Rasmataz. And by that, we mean. Money. Just money, please.
Starting point is 00:54:30 This money that you have. Do the one where they have to all live in Australia, and they just go out on missions through a portal. Dude, that'd be awesome. Yeah. Yeah. What else you got, Mason? We've got another one.
Starting point is 00:54:40 I bet you don't. I do. Dustin says, it drives me up the wall whenever costumes have to be explained and made tactical and realistic. Yeah. And I mean, Spider-Man's just proven you don't need to do that. Although he is, in retrospect, he is still pretty AI heavy, isn't he? Yeah, he's got that thing.
Starting point is 00:54:53 You didn't need the AI guy. No. You didn't need... I can't track... Which is Naomi was. Is it? Yeah, if he's name was. I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:55:00 I didn't know that. Because we were in a film together. Oh, yeah. I don't know where that's why. Yeah, that's making sense. The impossible, though, right? The impossible, good movie. Yeah, that was like...
Starting point is 00:55:06 I don't think that's why I think they just... No, they're probably friends and know each other or whatever. Yeah, probably. But yeah, because, like, there's a moment where he loses his Spider-Man ability to track the person's mind-jumping abilities. So it kind of feels like You lost the bill to stick to waltz, I'll do it I'm the AI
Starting point is 00:55:23 that lets you stick to waltz I think he could have It's interesting Because I think he could have They go You know The idea behind that character She can't
Starting point is 00:55:32 Initially she can't jump into somebody's mind If it's more than 33 feet I don't think you need those specifics I think you could just have Peter Parker genius boy Just go 33 feet Looks about 30 feet
Starting point is 00:55:43 Give a take Yeah yeah It's about a couple of car lengths GRT says Yeah yeah Yeah that's right Yeah okay I bought about the costuming.
Starting point is 00:55:51 Yeah, I think, yeah, you don't... Nowadays, a lot of it's just jumpsuits with not even a logo. Yeah, true. I mean, it depends on, I guess, the character. You know, like... I'm hoping this new... I'm hoping this new MCU. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:05 This rebuted MCU, which will have been promised, but maybe it will never come to pass. Or it's not even true. Or it's not even true. Give us more... Give us more capes and streamlined suits and... Give me the 960's Iron Man suit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:18 Not the hulking one, but like the red and gold. And the roller skates, yes, the stupid one. I guess the problem is that like... The Alex Ross design version. Yeah, they're afraid to look stupid. And so if you're like, oh, no, we'll make it real and tactical. Not us. Hello, Hugh Jackman.
Starting point is 00:56:37 Give us some money. We don't ever care if he looks stupid. But you know what I mean? There is that fear. And so you make it, well, it's tactical. And then that's not stupid because it's got actual application actually for real. But, you know, it can be stupid, it's fine. Because otherwise, if it looks stupid,
Starting point is 00:56:50 then they have to have a scene where they go, that looks stupid. Yeah. So, you know, I mean, speaking of uniforms, Stephen says, leather, best on blade and worst on dead, ever X-Examon gets a free pass. Same for Catwoman on Benjamin Bratt's performance alone. True.
Starting point is 00:57:03 He does a good basketball in that movie. I haven't watched, have you watched any of X-Men 97 here? Not the new season, but have, yeah. They've moved to the Grand Morrison New X-Dictly new X-Men suits, which is black with a big... With a big yellow X across them. Which is interesting. don't think it'll stick if they do another season they'll be back to the yeah but that's interesting
Starting point is 00:57:21 and i think there's been some not outcry but i think there's certainly some criticism because they the the x-men 97 characters have all the great costumes that they are they are known for and to switch it up for the generic stuff i feel like it is it's obviously intentional like it's probably speaks to what's happening in that particular series it's not in a wink also well yeah it's a not in the wink and there's you remember comic books we remember we remember and we've seen all of them yeah we've seen them all. Seen them all, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:48 Yeah, but Blade, yeah, that mean, that's great. That's a great outfit and makes sense. Daredevil, like, I get it. I don't love it, but like the leather one, but I understand. Because it is that thing of like, well, if he is getting punched in the head every night, you know, there is a level of protection to wearing a motorcycle suit because he's just supposed to be a guy. Correct.
Starting point is 00:58:07 Except he's not, because he's also like, I also have super strength. Yeah. But he doesn't. That radiation of the eyes gave me super strength. Yeah. Mm, man. Mm, man. It's great mate number five, four, six.
Starting point is 00:58:15 8213. Didn't know we had that many members, but I'll take it. I'm excited. In the MCU, I hate character development happens off screen, like Tony's alcoholism, his relationship, and Hulk's story. These are important stories in comics, but get lip service at best. There's a Patrick Willem's video from a long time ago, which covers that. That, yeah, a bunch of stuff happens off screen.
Starting point is 00:58:37 Like, you know, a year passes between the last movie and the next one, and stuff has happened. Yeah. Whereas, you know, I think some people would like. like the status quo to be frozen in time from the last movie to the next one. I don't know. I guess for me it's like a case-by-case basis. Sometimes it's to just kind of just move past something. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:59 Like, whatever, who cares? Another time I think it thinks it, you know, because it gives you a reason for why a character is acting a certain way. Like Tony Stark between Iron Man 3 and Civil War, is it? Uh-huh. He breaks up with Pepper Potts. And people like, was he in a relationship with Pepper Pot? She know that.
Starting point is 00:59:16 Yeah. And I think that kind of explains a little bit why he's so fucking unhinged in that. It's not the only reason, but he hasn't got someone to go back to and she could be like, don't do that. But wouldn't you want a totes emotion scene where they break up or whatever? Yeah, I would think we've had that though. We got those in the movies already at that point, right? I guess.
Starting point is 00:59:34 I guess. Do you know what I mean, though, in that movie? Because he's just like spiraling. And having her there would be like, would stop him from doing that. Exactly. And now he's just, but he's just talking to AI. Yeah, he'd be like, Tony, insert this egg, you'll feel much better. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:48 But yeah, he's just talking to AI as a general Ross, and it's like, well, that's not good. Your influences are poor. Uh-huh. Yeah. What else, Mason? What do we got here? What about this from Robin? Yes.
Starting point is 01:00:00 No shade to Batman forever, but Tommy Lee Jones, as Two Face has got to be one of the worst adaptations of a comic book character ever. It is. It's terrible. It's a really bad performance in a movie that I don't think is that bad, but it's just too much. Makeups bad. Have we talked about this one? I feel like I've talked. Oh, no, we have talked about it.
Starting point is 01:00:20 Well, there you go. I did it already. I was already mad about it previously. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway, I'm glad I brought it up twice because I do not like that. How about from Travis? She says best, the Silver Surfer and Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer. Agreed.
Starting point is 01:00:33 That's good. And Master of the Universe 2026. I mean, it's a pretty faithful adaptation, I guess. Except for the bit where he leaves Earth. Yeah. In retrospect, I kind of feel like. maybe it's just social media reactions but I'm like maybe I was too harsh on that movie
Starting point is 01:00:49 yeah maybe I generally liked it to know yeah I think I was I wanted to be more I don't know I wanted to be more D&D in terms of like quality and it wasn't quite there for me some of the stuff didn't but yeah it's all right but it also says worst master the universe 1987 I still love it but it really
Starting point is 01:01:05 is not much like the source material yeah which is like a budget thing obviously but yeah it starts an attorney and then just goes to New Jersey or whatever yeah right or whatever happens and yeah Stephen says Matt Fractions, Hawkeye being adapted to the Hawkeye TV show, unfortunately missed the mark for me. Okay. Because, well, it's interesting because in the, for people that don't remember, there's a Matt Fraction, David Iya comic book called My Life is a weapon, which we believe have covered on the Big Sandwich Place in comic book club, where Hawkeye takes ownership of a like an apartment building in New York.
Starting point is 01:01:39 And then he learns to kind of, you know, he gets to know all the various residents of it. and becomes friends and they have various troubles and he takes care of that and there's, you know, gang warfare and et cetera. And it's, some of it happens in Christmas and is it lucky the pizza dog. And we meet second Hawkeye in the form of Kate Bishop. The problem is that in that comic book, he's like he's an unattached to anything.
Starting point is 01:02:08 Yeah. You know what I mean? He's kind of like that classic comic book trope of like the kind of, you know, he's a classic comic book, boy, you know, he's had all these relationships to all these various characters, but he isn't pinned down. Yeah. You know, he isn't bloody, bloody,
Starting point is 01:02:22 the old, old Boland Shane, thank you very much. The old Linda Cardalini, they call it. That's exactly, yuck. Yuck. Can you imagine a world? Yuck. But in the, in the in the show, he's, you know, in the MCU, he's married with kids. Yeah. Secretly. Married with children. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. Was that a shocking reveal
Starting point is 01:02:39 to you in like age of Ultram where they just went to his house? No. No. No. No. No. Was that. Some of the stuff Jeremy ran it didn't real life. Is that a shocking reveal to you? No, James. No. Interesting.
Starting point is 01:02:51 No. Well, there you go. Didn't miss the mark? How do you feel? I mean, it was all right. I didn't mind it. I remember just being a bit of fun and there was a giant arrow and that was good. I like that.
Starting point is 01:03:00 It's true, yes. I like the introduction of Kate Bishop. Yeah. I remember thinking it was all right. I mean, I think we have to. Nobody can kill his family again. Yes. I feel like a lot of the time you just, it's a shame,
Starting point is 01:03:14 but a lot of the time you have to just go, this is a different universe and it simply cannot be the same. And the comic book is still there. Yeah. You know, changes have to be made for a variety of reasons, including casting and the stuff that has come before in the movies and what have you. So you just have to kind of live with the concept.
Starting point is 01:03:34 You can't, I guess we could have him divorced or have his family killed. And then he's like, well, I'm going to buy a building in New York or just have some fun. Have some fun. So I'm going to have fun and let it loose. But you sort of have to go, well, I made the best of it, didn't that? Yeah. Which is all, I like that series. I wonder if it would have worked better as a movie.
Starting point is 01:03:53 But, yeah, but then they have to make a Hawkeye movie. Yeah. And I just don't know whether people would even see that at this point. Yeah. No, no, no. Jeremy says, I'll always hate that they bought Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver into the MCU without having the rights to Magneto, so they had to write him out of the story. What makes it even more egregious is in the comics, they did movie Synergy and
Starting point is 01:04:11 retcon to Wade Magneto being their father. Oh. That's right. Did you know he wasn't originally their father, though? No, it was like, who was it? Polaris is his daughter, but I can't remember who. Yeah. I did know that, but I can't remember.
Starting point is 01:04:23 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Decades of continuity in a really fruitful and interesting relationship, just completely undone. It's rare that a comic adaptation choice damages the source material, but this one did. Do you reckon that's rare that damages the source material? As in you can't go back and read the original stuff. Yeah, or like they make a change to the comics, which is worse for the comics. Steel? Oh, as in, it's so bad that they have to change it back.
Starting point is 01:04:49 Yeah. I know, I think what he's saying is that it changed the comics and the comics are now worse because they changed that. Oh, I see, right. Yeah. No, I'm fine with that. Oh, this is from Zane. Zane.
Starting point is 01:04:59 Yeah, it's Billy Zane. Billy Zane says, having Tony Stark revealed his secret identity at the end of Iron Man really changed the entire game in terms of secret identity. Before that everyone had one, and now we really just have Spidey and Superman left. How do you feel about that? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:12 Well, there's a bad man. and whatever. Oh, yeah, it's a Batman, I guess it's a Batman. What's interesting because, again, you know, the, I think we talked about this when Spider-Man No Way Home came out. Yeah. Is that the idea that Spider-Man is, you know, tied up in knots because the world has discovered his secret identity.
Starting point is 01:05:33 Who cares? In this universe, everybody who's just, there's a plaque in, you know, in New York City on a building that's got all the real names of all the heroes. Yeah. It's like, we love that they save New York. York City. Yeah. Like the, and it's, again, I feel like that movie, which I don't like until it was
Starting point is 01:05:49 all right. It's fine. You know, I had to tie itself into knots to be like, to find negatives for, for his secret identity to be revealed. That's part of the reason I think that that movie feels like such a mess to me. Yeah. It's because it's like, well, Spider-Man's friends aren't going to get into the college they wanted to get into.
Starting point is 01:06:07 You sure? Because like, surely some colleges would be like, oh, you're Spider-Man's friends? That's cool Maybe if you're here Spider-Man will shop I think if that were the case in the real world They would 100% be Yeah
Starting point is 01:06:21 I think it was for him It's just like well he wants to live a normal life He wants to go to school and not be yelled at Too bad grow up Get rid of your powers then Yeah Do one of those Get Dr Strange to take your powers away
Starting point is 01:06:33 Not so great now is it That's a great and good point Or then maybe Iron Man can build you A Spider-Man Iron Spider-Suit Maybe that and get your powers back Yeah Maybe you could wish your powers back Maybe Infinity starts to get your powers back.
Starting point is 01:06:46 Maybe you get bit by a regular spider. Bit by a regular spider. Yeah, regular man. You get bit by a regular man. You turn into a regular man. What do you think about that? Would that be all right? What about this one?
Starting point is 01:06:55 I can end on this from Jay Michael White. Can you end on it? Do you have the skill? Yep. To just land perfectly with this one? Dude, this is going to be crazy. Yeah, I'm ready. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:03 From... Oh, just quickly, some of these we have talked about. From Hell adaptation? Bad. Agreed. Wanted adaptation we talked about bad. Agreed. A League of Extraordinary Gentleman, Bad.
Starting point is 01:07:12 We talked about that endlessly. Trocious, yes. Super crooks, super rooks, but I assume it's super crooks, good slash underrated. Did you see it? I didn't say it. I didn't watch any of those.
Starting point is 01:07:22 I stopped watching the Netflix superhero stuff. Constantine, good movie, but bad adaptation? Correct, yes. Is it a bad adaptation just because he's not blonde and British? Like, is that the only thing? Because there's a lot of Constantine stuff in there that I think holds up. Again, I like to think that there's multiple variations of that character. I mean, we got that version.
Starting point is 01:07:43 TV version. There's the version in the CW. Yeah. And we got the version in Sandman Yuck, which is Yuck now. Yeah. Wait, the Samman TV show, Concentine's in it. Well, Joanna Constantine's in it. She's Constantine, if you recall.
Starting point is 01:07:56 And it's that lady from Doctor Who. Doctor Who ladies. Doctor Who ladies? And so he says Sporn bad. I mean, Sporn is like, that is just Sporn, though, right? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It is.
Starting point is 01:08:10 In the cold light of day, the adaptation of Sporn is simply Sporn. It really is exactly the same. All the dialogue's the same. Everybody's just, you know, a weird poser like in Sporn. Yeah. Sporn's still going as a comic book. It's still happening. Merch, man.
Starting point is 01:08:25 Merch. Merch all day. Yeah. It's all sorts of different spawns. There's Cowboy Sporn and King Sporn and Omega Sporn. And no, it's good. It is good. No doubt.
Starting point is 01:08:36 You know what we should cover? What's that? For our comic book club. Oh, I like, We should cover modern era savage dragon. Okay. Which for people who don't know, was one of the first waves of image comics.
Starting point is 01:08:47 Image comics by Eric Larson. He is still writing it. He's still illustrating it. It's been going four decades at this point. He's put Mickey Mouse's in it now because he's public domain. Mickey Mouse and Popeye are both in it. Amazing.
Starting point is 01:09:01 He's having a great time. I wonder what the jumping on point would be, though, because I think we have to, because it started out, He's kind of like a, he's a superpowered guy a la the Hulk, super strong invincible. He's got a fit on his head. And he works for the Chicago Police Department. And he's a fit on his head?
Starting point is 01:09:16 And he's got to fit on his head. And it's since gone off the rails. At some point in the last couple of decades, it went off the rails. And I would, where is the jumping on point? If you're still a listener of, if you're still a, well, if you're still a listener of this. But if you're still a, if you're still a reader of Savage Dragon out there, let us know what you think. And we'll let you know what we think. We'll let you know what we think.
Starting point is 01:09:36 If we ever read that, which we should. I'll be up for that. Yeah. All right, should we move it along? Let's move it along. But what can we even talk about? Isn't this the end of the show normally? No, it never is.
Starting point is 01:09:45 Are you all right? No, Mason. But what are we going to do? We can do our segment, what we read and what we're going to read. All right, let's do that. Let's do that. I'm doing nothing. Great segment, isn't it?
Starting point is 01:10:02 It is a great segment. Why? Because we have great recommendations. That's true. Except for some weeks when I'm just like, oh, I watched YouTube. I just tuned down and watch YouTube. You can't watch. What's that?
Starting point is 01:10:12 Bloody Gods of Egypt video taken off my channel. Copyright struck. Really? Oh, yeah. I emailed that because they're like, you can, because I contact YouTube and they're like, you're, you're obsessed. You're obsessed with your career being not derailed by frivolous copyright strikes.
Starting point is 01:10:27 Is it embarrassing what I'm doing? It's embarrassing what you're doing. And I know, I talked about this at what other, I didn't meet to even talk about this. It wasn't planning on. But, um, I, so I email, because they're like, you can contact them directly. Here's their email. And I'm like, sure. let's see if this does anything
Starting point is 01:10:41 it didn't they didn't respond we could get Alexi to email Alex Pryas that's true he could through his Greek community emails he's Greek community yeah exactly but I don't think Alex Pryas has any no I don't think it's going to be rubbish this movie it's not good no
Starting point is 01:10:55 yeah but uh so now I've appealed the copyright strike and it is basically it's the next step is litigation okay and it's annoying because you have to when you take that step you have to give all your details this is my address This is my phone number.
Starting point is 01:11:10 Marital status. Marital status. Good. Good. Everything's good. Everything's good. There's a drop-down box and you did extra good. Extra good. Extra good.
Starting point is 01:11:19 Marital status. So it's like nobody, I don't have the guy who did this fucking home address, you know? Yeah. How the fuck is this fair? Yeah. Yeah. So, you know. See how this.
Starting point is 01:11:32 God, this will be exciting if this does go to court. Yeah. I'm going to put a tie on. I'm going to go. I'm going to. Wait, Mason. Yeah. Do you want this to happen just so.
Starting point is 01:11:39 can put a tie on. Yes. Yes. God. I don't... I can be a character witness. I don't think it's going to get to that. But, uh, you know, if you say so.
Starting point is 01:11:49 There's going to be one eventually and maybe it is, man. Maybe it's for gods of Egypt. Our time's going to, our limited time on earth is going to be wasted by gods of Egypt. You know, it's interesting because Warner Brothers are worse than other companies because this also happened with... It happened with back in action and it happened with Space Jam. So the back in action, I think, is clear now. Okay.
Starting point is 01:12:09 Gross M2. is still happening. People loving that back in action video, I imagine. People have got a lot of fond memories. Good, solid, fun opinions and memories. Anyway, I watched some stuff this week. I very much enjoyed.
Starting point is 01:12:23 I watched the movie The Invite, which is the new Olivia Wilde directed movie starring Olivia Wild and Seth Rogen and Penelope Cruz and Ed Norton. How'd you feel about it? I liked it a lot. It's fun. You think it's going to be like a sex movie, but it's more of a breakup movie.
Starting point is 01:12:38 Is it a catty movie? What do you mean? Like people are like meow. They're at each other's throats, Mason. Yes, they are very much. So it's Seth Rogen and Olivia while they're married, but their relationship is like, you know. Going well?
Starting point is 01:12:50 No, it's, if I had to drop down that box, I would say it's On the Rocks. Oh, no. Yeah. You drop in the On the Rocks box. Exactly. But they've been hearing sex noises from the, um, the... From the sex shop?
Starting point is 01:13:01 Yeah, from the sex shop. Yeah, the apartment above and it's Penelper Cruz and Ed Norton and they're, they've invited them over for dinner because Seth Rogen wants to have a go at them for being annoying. And it's, but they've got a proposal for them. Oh. But it's a lot of fun.
Starting point is 01:13:16 So it's a, it's a, I think it's a remake of a French film, but it sounds like a remake of a film. Yeah. And it feels, it does feel like a play a little bit. Because it's,
Starting point is 01:13:25 it's essentially a one location movie. And it was, but the script for this was written by Rashida Jones. Oh. And somebody else. I don't know, some other guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:33 But it's a lot of fun, I think. It's a lot, a lot of fun. Okay. You'll enjoy that. Is it, Similar in tone to The Roses?
Starting point is 01:13:41 It's way better than The Roses. Okay, cool. The Roses is a nothing film, as you remember. One of the rare films we watched together, like as a... Oh, we did too. Yeah, we're just like, there's not... We finished recording the podcast. Let's watch something.
Starting point is 01:13:53 It was The Roses, which is the most nothing movie that exists, which is wild, because it's got Benedict Kumberbatch and Olivia Colman. Great cast and probably supporting actors as well, but that's just... And then they're cartoons, those characters. Yeah, absolutely. No good. But these guys all feel like real, real people. Real cartoons.
Starting point is 01:14:09 Yeah, real cartoons. It's more Who Frame Roger Rabbit than Lutie Toons back in action. Exactly. Perfect comparison. To put it in a reference that our listeners will understand. I like that they understand that. But yeah, it's really, really funny and interesting. And like I said, directed by Olivia Wilde, who has nearly made several great movies.
Starting point is 01:14:25 But missed them are just by that much. But I think this is the one. This is the one. She did Book Smart, which I liked and apparently nobody else liked. I liked Book Smart. And then she did Don't Worry Darling, which is interesting. It's interesting. It's interesting.
Starting point is 01:14:36 Yeah. But this one's interesting, but also good. I agree. Yeah. That one, the ready, Don't Worry, Darling, made Jordan Peterson cry or whatever. Did it? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:46 Well, ready player, don't worry, darling. Yeah. Ready player, darling. Thank you. I watched the Bear season five, the final season of the bear. And it's all take place in one day. Yeah, I mean, there is, you know, it's not like the exact, it's not minute to minute. It's not the movie 24 or the TV show 24, I should say.
Starting point is 01:15:05 It doesn't go do, do, do, do, do it. And that's the oven? Yeah. But, you know, it's a hectic night at the bear. What's going on? Everything's crashing down around them while they're trying to make beautiful experiences for the people who come into the bear. Which is the most important thing in the world, I think. I agree. It's somebody a beautiful restaurant experience. I agree. It's not community and sharing food together, you know. It's a beautiful experience. It's wearing a suit and a beautiful experience.
Starting point is 01:15:28 It's like, that's happening while Oliver Platter's, like, lost all his money, so he's trying to figure out how to make money. You should find some more money in the walls. That's probably all these up money was previously. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's interesting, we've almost certainly talked about this, but I think it's interesting that the premise of the bear, like the theme of the bear sort of changed from like,
Starting point is 01:15:47 you can, you know, sharing, you know, a community where you share food and that's important. And like there's dignity in working together and, you know, even if it's just at a sandwich shop or whatever. And then it sort of became, now the most important thing in the world is actually fancy restaurant experience. Well, it is that. But I think also, you know, from this final season,
Starting point is 01:16:04 it is more about like the community they build with each other. And they are doing something together that they all believe in. And while Kami's like, I don't know if I want to be the bear anymore. I might just leave this bear in the kitchen. Yeah. God, it'll be funny if at the end he's like, you know, actually, I think I'd rather just work at a sandwich shop. And everybody's like, come on, man.
Starting point is 01:16:23 What's what we were doing? The sandwich shop was fine. You ruined this. You ruined our lives. Yeah. Our blood pressure's all through the room. Because you didn't, you changed everything. That's part of the room.
Starting point is 01:16:33 I had to go and clean forks for like a year, I think. I had to buy so many suits to work in that restaurant and then you want to go back to the sandwich and we did that. We screamed at each other about it. We blew up the sandwich shop. We filled it with dynamite.
Starting point is 01:16:47 That's why Oliver Platt doesn't have any money anymore. He spent it all on dynamite to blow up the sandwich shop. Never been to build the sandwich shop again? I remember. You're fired, Carmie, the bear. Wow, he's not allowed to be fired. He's one of the best people in the bear. You're fired.
Starting point is 01:17:00 We're going to start the sandwich shop again and you're not in it. You're out. It was fine before you were here. Oh, my. And your brother's back, come back to life. Oh, that's good. Because of the amulet.
Starting point is 01:17:11 Yeah. We found the time turnaround amulet again, so he's alive again. I think he would just do the same thing. You would, yeah. I don't think he wants to be alive, that guy. Oh, and I started reading Red Dwarf Titan. Oh, that was the book you were talking about last week. That's right.
Starting point is 01:17:24 I was hoping to finish it. What did you think of it? I like it so far. Are you doing the audio book, the Chris Barry? No, I'm doing the regular book, the reading. How are you finding it? Reading? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:33 Difficult. Difficult. No, it's a breeze, actually. It's very compelling. I literally just found my old Red Dwarf books and just put them on the shelf. Put them on the shelf. Yeah. It's fun.
Starting point is 01:17:43 Because it's a prequel, isn't it? It is a prequel. So it's set for people who don't know anything about Red Dwarf, which is none of our listeners because they're all apparently Red Dwarf super fans. Yeah. It's set on the spaceship, Red Dwarf, which is a big mining spaceship, three million years in the future. Dave Lister, Last Man Alive. He got into a stasis pod and he emerged three million years later. And he and his rag tag team have to attempt to get back to Earth.
Starting point is 01:18:07 they've done so for a series of decades in the sitcom, which keeps coming back. It does, but maybe not now. But in between, I think, series one and two, or around series one and two of the show, Rob Grant and Doug Nailer, who created the show, they wrote a couple of novels set in the Red Wolf Universe, and they sort of retell the events of what it already happened.
Starting point is 01:18:29 Yeah, and then some of the novels were like a preview of stuff to come in subsequent seasons, but then their working relationship broke down and they each wrote a separate sequel novel which are very grim which are like it's like when a director or somebody makes a movie
Starting point is 01:18:48 after they've gone through a divorce and all the women are awful. It's kind of like that. It's like life's not worth living. Temple of Derm. But then Rob Grant he passed away recently but this is the last book he wrote.
Starting point is 01:19:00 And it's set before Dave Lister it's set just after Lister joins Reddwarf, and it's his kind of... The whole Red Wolf crew is on the moon of Titan, on shore leave, and this is where he hatches his plan to get, in his attempt,
Starting point is 01:19:18 to get put in stasis, so he can get back to Earth. Right, okay, gotcha. But it's a prequel. But maybe it's also a sequel. Oh, really? Maybe it's also a sequel. Maybe some characters who would never,
Starting point is 01:19:28 could not possibly ever be... He's going to say, like Crichton? Maybe even a character like Crichton who could not possibly be here because he hasn't been invented yet. Maybe he's in, maybe he's in the book. Interesting. It's in the book somehow.
Starting point is 01:19:38 Somehow. Sounds like sort of a retconny multi-dimensional thing. Little bit, yeah. Okay. It is very much that. Should I read this? I think you should probably read it. I will.
Starting point is 01:19:46 Yeah. So it's essentially, yeah, it's predominantly it's, it's, it's, it's Rimmer and Lister and a droid they've kind of hijacked to, to, to. And Rimmer is not a hologram. Not a hologram. Yeah. But maybe he somehow gets an H-on-ish set. Well, it's an H-on-sit.
Starting point is 01:20:03 like branding? He can sit by a car. Does he? Yeah. Great. Yeah. All right, cool. Yeah, it's fun.
Starting point is 01:20:11 Well, let's do lettuce. We can do letters. Let's do some lettuce mason. Maybe I'll find the lettuce theme. Well, yeah. If you can stop grilling me about Red Dwarf Titan, a book I enjoyed. It's a lot more fun. Maybe it does get grim towards the end.
Starting point is 01:20:22 I'm probably halfway through it. But this is much more of a... Yeah. Like, it's more like an episode. It's more like kind of like hijinks and, you know, banter back and forth. and, you know. Backs and forths. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:20:37 New series of Red Dwarf coming? Maybe. Who knows? Not the moment. Not through Dave, I think. I mean, the last thing was a movie. And it was all right. Promise land, yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:46 Promise land, yeah. Anyway, here's the lettuce thing. The classic one was, Letters, oh, letters, we love you, some letters. They're only a day. A way. You know they're here right now. We're going to do letters.
Starting point is 01:21:00 If you do want to reach the letters. segment all you got to do is send a letter to weekly planet pod at jemal.com or go into Facebook I know I'm sorry
Starting point is 01:21:13 about that that you have to go on Facebook Oh yeah Facebook yeah yeah Planet Broadcasting Greatmates group thread every week Wow
Starting point is 01:21:19 I feel like that kind of it wasn't a good song that I did just then I think it was a good song Okay great We have to pause though Because I have to find some letters Whoa letters
Starting point is 01:21:29 W letters You better believe it God we just had a whole situation. We had a whole situation involving Google authentication and trying to authenticate our account through multiple laptops and phones and a whole thing. Whenever we tried to log in, it's like, we don't think you can. Yeah. This didn't work for reasons we will not. There are no other options also. Yeah. You want to try again? Yes. Well, it didn't work this time. Yeah. One time I was trying to prove that I owned the account, the weekly planet account,
Starting point is 01:22:01 that I was already log into by logging in and it was like, no. No. But I was logged in. Yeah. It was no, we can't, we don't think you. This is you. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:10 Okay. Can you see me? Anyway, weekly plan at pot at gmail.com for now. Yeah. This is an email from Campbell. Campbell soup. This may be a dumb question, but I've heard you reference
Starting point is 01:22:20 Florence Pugh as the better black widow. I do not disagree with you, but I was curious as to what your reasons are and what specifically makes her better. She's fun. That's part of it. You didn't think Scarlet your hands. and was fun, borrowing those two guns?
Starting point is 01:22:32 No, she didn't get that much to do. That's true, yeah. You know? She, yeah, I mean, by the time... Her movie was a... Yeah. Wasn't even a solo movie, really. But the time her movie came out,
Starting point is 01:22:42 it was more establishing Florence Pew as an ex-Black Widow. By the time we got any kind of deep backstory, she was already gone. Yeah. So... I find Florence Pew, like, really endearing as well. I think she's, you know...
Starting point is 01:22:55 Yeah. She's fun. And she's having fun with it. She's fun and she's having fun with it. Yeah. So that's, yeah. But, you know, not... not that Scarlett New Henson was terrible,
Starting point is 01:23:04 but again, less to do with, less to have heard of doing more like, we got your womb taken out and that's a weird thing to put in a movie. I wouldn't like that. I wouldn't like it. But the new Black Widow also has that. Oh, yeah. But she's not always banging on about it.
Starting point is 01:23:20 Mason, Sean says, if Doomsday comes out and somehow underperforms, what do you think the move will be for the MCU? I think just get through it. Yeah, get through. Push through. Get to the X-Men. And Black Panther 3.
Starting point is 01:23:32 Exactly. Yeah. That maybe that's the key. Yeah. Like maybe it's like if the X-Men underperforms, what is the, because the X-Men was a big hit for a lot of years, right? It was a big X-Men movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:45 But then did, I imagine it tape it off significantly. The back-ed. The last one was New Mutants, right? Oh, yeah. So, I don't know. A bit of like the mainline ones, but yes. Yeah, I think the acid test here will be, do people still like X-Men as a concept,
Starting point is 01:23:59 and normal people going, I love X-Men. I'm going to see X-Men movie. I love X-Men. I love X-Men also. I love X-Men. Me too. Yeah. What else you got? This is from Nathan.
Starting point is 01:24:10 Nathan. Hello boys. After hearing the rants on the most recent episode about trying to get accurate heights of Hollywood stars, I was wondering if you guys had heard of Celeb Heights.com. The guy that runs this site basically does his best to do the math to accurately determine celebrity heights.
Starting point is 01:24:24 He takes into account shoes, hair heights, slouching, etc. For many of the actors, he has pictures with them so he can determine their height based on his own. I thought it might be useful in this quest to find real Celebrity Heights. This is how I learned the Rock was much shorter than I originally thought. Now, I went, so I clicked through to Celebrity Heights, and I'm like, the man in question, Glenn Powell.
Starting point is 01:24:44 Yeah. It says he is 5 foot 11 and a quarter. Interesting. Yeah. Because what I've got here is a message from Fidel. Oh, moderator of the Planet Broadcasting Greatmates Facebook group. I edited that Resident Evil 2 video. That's right.
Starting point is 01:24:59 He said, hello James, Resident Evil Tour is ready to upload. And this is a small letter slash tidbit from last week's pod. I met Glenn Powell at the premiere of Hitman, and he is definitely not six foot. He's slightly tall than me, and I'm barely inching on 5'8, like 510 at max. So he's barely taller than Fidel. And Fidel's 5.8. He's saying Glenn Powell is 5'10. He's 5'10 at max.
Starting point is 01:25:23 Okay. I knew it. So I'd trust this. Okay. More than Celeb Heights. I was going to say there's commentary here on Celeb Heights.com. People can leave a comment. And people have said his own website lists him at 5'10.
Starting point is 01:25:39 Okay. Is his website official? I assume you mean this one? If so, it's not. The Glenn Powell Network is in no way affiliated with Glenn Powell, only representation thereof. There's a fan-made and managed website. Interesting.
Starting point is 01:25:50 Brett says he's 5'10. Okay. There's apparently a picture of him with Tyler Herklin. Oh, yeah. that pretty much throws any chance of below 5 foot 11 out the window. How's all right? I don't know. I thought he was quite short.
Starting point is 01:26:03 Isn't he the shortest of the Superman? I don't. Maybe. Is he 511? Okay, so he's 6 foot, which means he's not 6 foot. No, there's no way. This is a photo of the MLB 2016 All Star Legends Celebrity Softball game. Tyler Herklin's standing next to Glenn Powell.
Starting point is 01:26:17 Powell is tall than Tyler Herklin. Yes. I think Tyler Erklin's like 58. 59? 5.9. But says he's 5, maybe 6 foot 511. I don't think he... No, Tyler Herklin is not.
Starting point is 01:26:28 No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It's just hard to know anything. It's hard to know. When everybody's lying to us. Yeah. Except Fidel, who tells the truth. Yeah, Fidel, we'll be telling the truth. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:40 God. And the thing is... Go on. No, I don't know. We should start a hot one style show where we just measure people. Hight maxing? Hight maxing. Mm.
Starting point is 01:26:51 No fake heights. No fake heights. No fake heights. Take your shoes off, you grub. That's what it's called. We'd have to fake it. We'd have to pretend it's something else. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:59 Like something normal. Yeah. We'd call it, take your shoes off. Take your shoes off. And we pitch it as like, oh, we're in bean bags or whatever. We're just a relaxed, whatever. And we put the bean bags on the set so they can see it as they enter the room. Yes, this is good.
Starting point is 01:27:13 And then they're like, take your shoes off. And they take it off. And then we slam up against the wall. And we've got one of those 7-Eleven, you know, the height thing on the door. Yes. And then we slam their head and we go, look, we smash their head and swish it down. We swish it down. We whip their hat off
Starting point is 01:27:28 and they got a hat, swoosh it down. You know? And then they could go. Yeah, then they can go, I guess. Goodbye, everyone. Erling Harland, famous FIFA player,
Starting point is 01:27:39 he's six foot four and three quarters. That's tall, I think. So it's a quarter of an inch below monstrous height. Yeah. I don't know, man. Mason, I've got this. I've got to find out what he thinks,
Starting point is 01:27:50 how tall Tyler Herklin is. Okay, well, while you're doing that, I'll do this. Okay. Joe Mart says, is how do you feel about Spider-Man using slash creating his own police surveillance state? I'm fine when Batman does it. But Spider-Man doing that in BND with facial recognition and databases
Starting point is 01:28:04 just makes me feel gross, not very friendly. Yeah, he did that. Of course, Batman did it in the Dark Night, Dark Night. And he just does it in the comics a bunch. Yeah, and it's so... But in that movie, it's pictures like, you've gone too far, Bruce Wayne. And he had to destroy it at the end, right? Was that the second one?
Starting point is 01:28:20 What's the second one? Dark Night, baby. Nice. And then, yeah, Spider-Man's just like this. And of course he builds spoiler alert again. This whole episode is spoilers for Spider-Man Bradenny Day. He does build the inhibitor chip, which will be used against every superpowered being in the Marvel universe going forward.
Starting point is 01:28:35 It works on anyone. That's handy. Yeah. That's handy. So that's a bit of a worry. But I guess it's also in fictional universes. It's a closed system. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:44 Nobody thinks about the wider purposes of the surveillance state. Because he's only going to be using it for good. Yeah. That's what I would use it for. Just good stuff. That's right. You know, because movies take for granted the, like, Like, I mean, this stuff does get used for bad purposes in movies,
Starting point is 01:28:58 but if it's for like a good character, they're normally just like, well, it's a good character, so that's not what they're going to do with it. We'll put all the power in that guy's hands because there's no way, there's no way he would be taken over by a psychic or anything. Yeah, or like Jake Gyllenhol steals his glasses that shoot drones. Exactly. You know? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:13 But then he's known for that. He's notorious for stealing people's glasses. That's one of the things he does do. What else, Mason? Here's one more Emma. Oh, you were doing height stuff, but I guess. Oh, yeah, I didn't. It was like, do you want to sign up?
Starting point is 01:29:27 Do you want to sign up and then you'll get the height? Do you? And I'm like, nah. No, man, not really. Don't worry about it. Hang on, I'll give it one more go. I'll give it one more go. You get a sign up?
Starting point is 01:29:37 No, no, I'm not going to do that. Oh, view a short ad. I just got a view a short ad, and then I've got 24 hours access to Celebheights.com. Sweet, what's the ad about? Trading? Big shoes? Yeah, trading stuff.
Starting point is 01:29:48 Trading shoes for bigger shoes. Trading shoes for bigger shoes, and that's what I like. Me too. That's what I like. Reward granted. There we go. Ooh, you've done it. Free access to the height.
Starting point is 01:29:57 Free access to the height of Tyler Herklin. Add for Light and Easy. Okay, don't need it. Very fit. Don't need it, don't want it. God, it takes a lot out of here, finding heights of celebrities. It certainly occupied a lot of our time. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:12 For a thing that doesn't matter. At all. Yeah. Oh, I'm an HO. Here we go. God damn, this site. Tyler Herklin, five foot, 11 and three quarters. And this one, he's got a photo of himself with Tyler Herklin.
Starting point is 01:30:24 Hmm. Interesting. Okay. And he does have a hat on smushing down his big hair. Yeah. If you say so. If you say so, celeb heights.com. They could be in on it. They could be in on it.
Starting point is 01:30:37 Yep. Their controlled opposition is what they are. They're a sci-op. Yep. Exactly. What's your email, Mason? Address. Emiles from Ian.
Starting point is 01:30:45 Ian. Hello, boys. Hello, Ian. My girlfriend overhears a lot of the pod and is concerned that the mean one is often too rude to the other one. Which one's that? Guess. Is it me? You're the mean one.
Starting point is 01:30:56 To dispel her concerns, can you please share a nice story about each other? P.S. she did commend Mesa for being unflappable. I don't know. Why am I the mean? I don't know. I think you're just louder. Well, that's certainly true. Convey a nice story. I don't think you mean to me, but I think maybe what they're referring to is like last week you got on the rant about YouTube. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:18 And it's sort of like, it's a wall. Oh, it's like, yeah, yeah, I do do that. It's like coming at, but you know. I do that. Yeah. I do do that. You do do that. A nice story about you is that you let me do that.
Starting point is 01:31:28 That is so true, isn't it? Now, you do a nice story about me. Okay. James is a very good dad. He's always doing good dad stuff. I don't know if that's true, Mason. He's always doing good dad stuff, and he's having fun with his kids, and he's doing little songs with his kids.
Starting point is 01:31:41 Thanks, man. He's having a nice time. You might be liked as the stupid songs we do on this podcast translate to real life. They do. He's always doing a, he doesn't switch off. Thanks, man. That's really nice. That's going to, that made me real emotional.
Starting point is 01:31:55 He's having a good time of the kids and they like it. Well, they also love you. They think you're great and fun and funny. Yeah. And for someone who hates kids and doesn't want to have kids, that's true. You're doing a bang up bloody job. Your daughter did look me in the eyes the other day, like real close up,
Starting point is 01:32:08 and she went, you're getting really old. And I'm like, I am getting really old. It's actually true. Thank you. Thank you for that. You don't even know. James's daughter? No.
Starting point is 01:32:20 You've only known me for five minutes. But I am. Oh, wow. Nicholas says, in your opinion, what was the greatest video game disappointment? A game you were so pumped for but ended up hating it right now. Oh. One of my personal ones was the Jedi Knight 2 expansion pack Mysteries of the Sith. The cutscenes weren't full motion graphics.
Starting point is 01:32:41 I remember just being like, how dare you do this to me? It's often a sequel, isn't it? Now, a lot of people tell me that Spider-Man 2, because there's two insomniax Spider-Man games, because I didn't play two. No. But I played the first one, Angel. It, but people tell me that the problem with, those two games are now in a loop, because the gameplay is better in the second one, but the story is worse.
Starting point is 01:33:01 Yeah. So people are like, should I play a Spider-Man game? And they're like, well, I don't want to go back and play the first one because the gameplay isn't as good. Yeah. But I can't play the second one because the story sucks. So they're like, well, now it just won't play anything. Wow.
Starting point is 01:33:12 Yeah. You can play the Mars Morales one. That's interesting. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, my son's beat all of those. And he's like, yeah, they're all good. All right.
Starting point is 01:33:19 But yeah, people were disappointed. But you're right, it is a sequel. isn't it? It's usually a new Halo game. Prototype 2 was just the same game again with a different protagonist. Do you remember that game? Yeah. Yeah. I remember Superman Returns being really disappointing. Okay.
Starting point is 01:33:33 Oh, they're delayed it. That's good. That means they're making good and this will be good. Oh, very good. It wasn't good. It was bad. I don't know. I mean, any game that like over promises on like this world that can do anything can go anywhere. Any live service crap. Right. Because you played that Avengers game. Yeah, that was just crap.
Starting point is 01:33:50 Yeah. Yeah. That was disappointed. I didn't think that was going to be good after they announced what it was going to be. Right. So that wasn't like, oh, I got it. And it's bad. It was just like, oh, this is. And that game also did like, it just didn't have to do any of that shit.
Starting point is 01:34:05 And it was also, we have Avengers at home. Like it was very much like, they were like, we need these characters to look somewhat like the movie versions. Yeah. But we can't make them look like the movie versions because the budget has not extended to that or we haven't been allowed. So they just look off. Yeah. He just looks weird and off. They do look weird and off, and that's good.
Starting point is 01:34:24 And he's good. God anymore? No, that's everything, I think. I'll just quickly do this. Nick Martin says, why do guests tend to exit the pod at the What We're Reading section? We don't have a lot of guests. We don't have a lot of guests. We've, it's not even that.
Starting point is 01:34:36 It's just we have not imposed. We're like, God, being on our podcast is a real imposition. Yeah. Like if, and especially, sometimes it's like someone who doesn't really is not in this field, really. Totally. Or they're not even a fan of the show. So we're like, we don't want to make you. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:51 that's right. But also it is a thing of like, because we'll often bring them in after the news. It depends if, because then we can record that separately sometimes. But it's also that sometimes people are mean to the guests. So we're like, well, we'll get them in just for a segment. We'll minimize their exposure. Yeah. Which is not, I mean, it's just the, it is the absolute minority.
Starting point is 01:35:08 Totally. You know, of the number of listeners we think we have. Yeah. The number of people who say something weird about the guest is very, you know, minuscule. Yeah, also don't. Yeah, don't do that. Like, you don't have to like it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:19 But usually where, and. I would say unless they specifically request to be on the whole episode, we usually just, we bring you in for a segment. Yeah. And if you want to stick around for what we're reading or what have you. That's normally our go. Yeah, that's normally out goes. We're like, yeah, stick around.
Starting point is 01:35:33 We're going to do this if you want to do it. And then they usually say yes. Any guests in coming? Don't think so. No. No, it's right. It's normally someone reaches out and we're like, oh, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:42 We haven't seen them in a while. And then if we line it up, we do. Or sometimes we just don't get back to them, but it's not personal. We just don't. And it's normally people we know and like. Well, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. So I would say for the most part is people we know personally who we enjoy their work and we would like to talk to them.
Starting point is 01:36:00 Yeah, exactly. And it's, it's, it's, we'll talk to them outside of this. Yeah. Like I know Michelle Brazier has said to us privately, not on the podcast. What? That a lot of people have come up to her after one of her shows because she's a great musical comedian. Yeah. That they heard her first on this. And they went and they saw the show. That's awesome. Around the world. And that she's in Pretty Woman the Musical. She is in Pretty Woman the Musical.
Starting point is 01:36:19 That's awesome. Yeah. I wish I was in Pretty Woman the musical, but they won't let me. Wow. They said, I'm too pretty. Which is, I don't think should be a problem. I think that would be, people would come. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:36:29 To see you an incredibly pretty person. Yeah. Yeah. But I guess it's not called Pretty Man, Woman. Not yet. Pretty Woman, man. I don't know. Is that the show?
Starting point is 01:36:39 That is the whole show. Tell me it is, Mason. James, it's the whole show. Oh, my God. Settle down. Okay, sorry. Folks, thank you so much for listening. We absolutely appreciate it.
Starting point is 01:36:47 Thank you for telling your friends about the podcast, because that is how we get new listeners. And thank you. You're welcome. For a living of five-star review on your podcast app of choice. If you do so, James will find it. He'll read it out right now. I've done this.

If I were a death row in, mate, my last wish would be to sit down and have a chat for a couple hours with these two characters. Yes, they're that good. Do we get the meal also? I don't want to watch someone eat. I want the meal. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:14 You want their meal? Yeah. Wait, also, what did you do? That's a great question. if you're on death, right? Yeah, so, you know, I don't know if I wanted... You know what they probably did. What?
Starting point is 01:37:25 They probably said a mean thing about one of our guests, and they got sentenced to death. Good. Yeah, good. I say that also. I also say good. This one's from M. Babel X from the UK says, a long-time listener, first-time reviewer. I came to this podcast in 2021 for the comic book movie news, but stayed for the tangents and

Starting point is 01:39:26 Who took these houses to the dinosaur times? Oh, that's a great question. Probably God? God did it. Yeah. Stay out of it. If it's Stephen Kingy, it's probably like God or like the creator of the universe or whatever.
