Starting point is 00:00:02 Welcome back everybody to another episode of the weekly planet where we talk movies and comics and TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday. And with me as always, is that Nick Mason? Yes, it is. But it's not official without a clicking in your handpoint, one of these. One of these. That's official. It's official.
Starting point is 00:00:17 It feels good. It does feel good. It's a big update week. Well, we miss so much. Well, we recorded a little bit early last week. Which is nobody's fault. It's nobody's fault. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:26 It's the listener's fault. Why did you do that? Why did you let us down like that? Why did you make us do that? Why didn't you remind us that was D23 or whatever, but Mason was working anyway? Exactly. Why didn't you do that? But also, I mean, it's ultimately to our benefit because, you know, the news has broken.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Yeah. And then a bunch of other outlets have covered it extensively. Yeah. Which gives us the chance. They found all the Easter eggs. Well, exactly. They found all the Easter eggs. And now, you know, we've had the chance to look at all the reactions and opinions
Starting point is 00:00:51 and decide which of the reactions and opinions are the best reactions and opinions. And then decide which reactions and opinions are our reactions and opinions. The good ones. The good ones, all the best ones. We're killing it. We can't be. And we're going to demonstrate that this week. You better believe it.
Starting point is 00:01:07 Snap at a point. Snap at a point. If you're on public transport right now, listen to the podcast, pick someone. Yeah. Pick your favorite person on the train carriage. Double snap and a point. Absolutely. They're going to love it.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Favorite person doesn't have to be someone who's receptive to it either. Yeah. You just be someone you've got your eye on. That's right. But also, come on, man. Yeah, come on. Use your judgment. We're joking around.
Starting point is 00:01:28 We're mucking around. We're not responsible for anything. We're not responsible for anything. I think that's important. What's going on with this corn, Mason? Great question. I have to step on the power bank for it to like zap the electricity through down. A lot of people don't know, but James operating a podcast, it's like one of those old-timey
Starting point is 00:01:45 ladies at a spinning wheel. It's going to keep, got to keep peddling away. Peddling away. Mason, so yeah, we're going to talk about the D23 stuff, but there's other things, and it's time coded below. We're going to also talk about the passing of Hayden, Paneterre. I don't, I'm going to pronounce that right, I assume, at some point. Eventually, which is just awful. Devastating. So D-23 stuff, which is like there's Star Wars stuff, there's a new
Starting point is 00:02:10 X-Men cast, there was a new look at Avengers, Doomsday, other things. We're going to talk about AI art in superhero movies. Oh, I love that. I love that combination of things. Me too. Two concepts I love and I'm not sick of. We're great. We're going to talk about who's been recast as Kratos in God of War, the TV series. And there's also announcement of an official announcement, a reveal of the new DCU show with Jimmy Olson and Gorilla Grod. That's right. Which we're going to get right into. And then we're going to talk about the first episode of Lanterns.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Yes. Which we have opinions on correct. That's right. Yeah. And as this podcast comes out, it'll be just in time to miss the second episode of Lantern. So we won't be talking about that. We're going to get it all wrong. We're going to get it all wrong.
Starting point is 00:02:49 We're slightly out of sync and we're going to be slightly out of sync forever. You know when you're driving your car, you miss a set of red lights. And you're like, well, now I'm going to miss the next 20 set of red lights. Exactly. That's this podcast in a nutshell. And the next eight episodes of lanterns. The weekly planet podcast, we've missed the next 10 sets of red lights. That's right.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Also, we're on a couple of podcasts, weren't we? Are you always out yet? I don't know. Mine is. I'll have a look. I went on Confessions with Sam Peterson. Oh, yeah, it's very good. It's on a YouTube channel.
Starting point is 00:03:14 It's on iTunes and whatever where he reads awful confessions from Reddit. That's right. And then we fix people's problems. And by that, I mean, they're probably long dead. It doesn't matter. Yep. But maybe we can get ahead of the next person. They might not be dead.
Starting point is 00:03:25 They might be in prison. They might be long in prison. That's right. So yeah, so that's linked below if you want. And is yours out yet, Mason? I've checked. It's not out, but I'm going to be on an upcoming episode of DoGo On. With Dave, Warnocky and Matt Stewart, Jess is away and fine.
Starting point is 00:03:38 Don't even worry about it. I wasn't worried about it. Okay, terrific. But I'll tell you what, subscribe in advance. If you haven't already subscribed to Do Go On, you should do that now, and then it'll pop right up. Do a great podcast you can listen to after this one. That's right. Or during this one.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Or doing, it's fine. Yeah. Sync him up. Syncum up. They sync up perfectly. That's right. I think you'll find. Mason.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Like Dark Side of the Moon. Like Dark Side of the Moon And a second copy of Dark Side of the Moon And the movie Dark Side of the Moon Transformers That's exactly right Hayden Paneterre passed away at age 36
Starting point is 00:04:04 Terrible fucking news I saw that Because I mean we had some recent people You know Some people died recently Michelle Tractenberg died You know within the last year She was 39 I think
Starting point is 00:04:14 And I'm like I saw this And I'm like 36 You've only just started being a line Yeah absolutely Yeah exactly I mean people People of Our Age will know She was on the show Heroes
Starting point is 00:04:25 which, you know, we make light of a lot of the time. But it was one of the very, the earliest pieces of like modern superhero media. But did it well, we should say. Yeah, and it was like a completely, it was a completely original new superhero universe. And she had to, you know, she was one of the linchpins that carried, especially the first season of that. You know, she was Claire the cheerleader, saved the world, which was the premise of that. She was later on Nashville. Yep.
Starting point is 00:04:52 And she was in the screen movies. Yeah. Remember the Titans, if you've seen that. She's just done a bunch of other stuff, like she was on Law and Order, she was on Ali McBeal. She was, I think she said at one point she was acting since she was like 11 months old. Yeah. This has been her entire life.
Starting point is 00:05:04 But as a result of that, at the moment of the time of recording, we don't know specifically. It doesn't seem like there was foul play involved, but we know, but she was found in cardiac arrest. And she's talking in the, spoken in the past about substance abuse issues and else she was treated in the industry and how like she tells the story about she, she didn't name the person in particular, but when she was, she was on a yacht. and someone just put her in this, like, celebrity's room just to kind of, like, as like a gift kind of thing. Like, she's talked about that.
Starting point is 00:05:31 And also how her parents, like, didn't protect her and, like, she was preyed upon. And she also made the decision in, which I can't even imagine, but in 2018, she decided to give up her daughter to focus on recovery because she had severe postpartum depression. And again, alcohol and drug addiction issues, which is just like, like, to make that decision is so. She was sort of dropped into the worst of all, like when you talk about, you know, Hollywood horror stories about. you know, child actors and what they are subjected to, especially female child actors. Absolutely. At one point, I saw in an interview she was talking about, I think it might have been on the set of heroes where she was talking to her mother, because her mother was also a manager
Starting point is 00:06:09 and was one of those Hollywood mother managers. And she was like, I need to fire you as my manager because I would just like you to be my mother. And she was like, well, you owe me. It's one of those ones. Yeah, absolutely. Just terrible. Yeah, terrible.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Terrible. Yeah. And it's also one of those things where, like, you know, it comes to light now, you know, and, you know, this kind of thing gets a push and like we should treat people better and whatever. But it often, this stuff like, it's constant. It's always happening. And then like, you look back and like, how did this happen? How did we not see this?
Starting point is 00:06:43 And it's like, well, you know, it was all there. The default assumption now should go forward should be this, that is what happening. Yeah. Like when we talk about how Chris Columbus, Discover of America and director of some of the Harry Potter movies, when he auditioned the Harry Potter kids, the main three cast, and the reason that they've turned out seemingly quite normal as adults, is because he auditioned the parents as well. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:07:04 And made sure that they weren't insane show business parents, which I think it's probably should be, it should be the law. Absolutely. To be like audition to parents and have psychologists vet them and go, are these parents insane? Yeah, absolutely. So it's just terrible. And again, like you said, 36.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Yeah. And with a young daughter. Because I only recently learned about how all the, you know, the various struggles should suffer. And I thought, okay, well, and she released a book recently. Yeah. And I'm like, oh, okay. Well, you know.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Which they jacked the prices up on it. Did they? Yeah. Well, and I'm like, oh, well, 36, you know. Yeah. Plenty of time to start again kind of thing, you know? And then it's like, ugh. Awful.
Starting point is 00:07:43 So again, we don't really know what happened. Yeah. And, you know, we're not going to speculate on that. But it's just terrible. Terrible. Terrible news. And I hope something good comes over this. as in maybe some lessons are learnt somewhere.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Or some parents go to jail. Your parents. Yeah, whatever. If it has to happen. Yeah. Look at me. Am I okay? Nobody interviewed them for this.
Starting point is 00:08:04 That's right. Exactly, yeah. Yeah. That's great. Please don't say that to jail. Even though I know you want to. And I have the power to do so. So yeah, terrible.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Just terrible. No good. All right. Let's power through. Let's do D23. Let's do it. It's the happiest place on earth. The D-23.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Disney conference convention. Dome. Dome. Yeah. Is it in a dome? It was in a dome. Epcot Center? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Okay. But it was in a dome, though. Which dome? I don't know. Yeah. So there was a bunch of a... Terror dome. Terror dome.
Starting point is 00:08:38 The Thunderdome? Thunderdome. It was in the Thunderdome. The D.C. Fan Dome. Remember that one? I know you do. Yeah, I know. So there's a few things that I just want to kind of brush over before we do the stuff that people really care about in this podcast.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Oh, yeah. announcements of Frozen 3, incredible. 3, Zootopia 3, Coco 2, tangled live action is still happening, we saw more of that. Lilo and Stitch 2 live action also released out. Was there a Lilo and Stitch animated too? Yes, it was direct to Divida. Okay, terrific. Yeah, I didn't see the new Lilo and Stitch, but apparently it was all right.
Starting point is 00:09:10 And live action, which I know you like. I don't. Awful, bad. We also got the first look at the bluey movie trailer. Oh yes, you showed me a snippet of that. It's not a snippet, I showed you the whole thing. All right, okay. It's the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Wow. Yeah. And your point of contention, you had a bone to pick with the trailer. It's not the only one. Is that Bluey has been 3D converted somehow? She, they, they, all of all the, all the, all the, all the, all the, all the, what's the family? Do they have a name? Do they have a family name?
Starting point is 00:09:39 Uh, healers. So his name is Blue, Bluey Healers. Okay, that makes sense. Yeah. Okay, terrific. Yeah. I mean, I have a lot of questions. I've asked your children about them.
Starting point is 00:09:48 They can't answer them. Convincingly, they, I said, is this whole, is everybody in this universe an animal? And they're like, kind of. And I'm like, that's not an answer. In this particular party scene where all the birthday party, it's all dogs. Yeah. So the dog.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Are they friends with other animals? No, so people are dogs. They're all dogs. They're dog people. So it's a dog world. But they're also animals. There are other animals. But I guess not dog.
Starting point is 00:10:12 But I guess not dogs. So like, so like the healer family would have, might have a pet cat. And it's just a regular cat. I guess. Have you seen that? Matt? I probably would. We seen evidence of this. In, in bluey. Because like, do they have little people as pets? I don't, I haven't seen that. Like as dogs. But I haven't seen much bluey. Regular animals exist, but dogs walk on two legs. Dogs act as people and there's pets and wildlife
Starting point is 00:10:37 lizards and regular animals. But there's no other animals talk. Right. It's not like Sylvania family where there might be a family of mice, but also a family of gum nuts or whatever. It's not like BoJack Horseman. No. Where there are humans and animals. And some animals are just regular animals, but a lot of animals are anthropomorphic animals. That's right. And if a, if a human and an animal, so if in the Bojack Horseman universe, if two animals of two different species have a child, it will either be one or the other. Correct. It's never a hybrid.
Starting point is 00:11:05 It's always, yeah. Exactly. Very important. I think it's very important. I think it's very important. Unlike what Shrek's doing with like donkey and a dragon babies. Like, I know that shouldn't be allowed. Someone should have stopped that.
Starting point is 00:11:16 I agree. I agree. If only Lord Farquod was still around. He was being eaten by that dragon. He wouldn't have stood for it. He wouldn't have stood for her. I think he's correct. I agree.
Starting point is 00:11:25 He's good and correct. As my Lord Farkwood was right, T-shirt. That I wear every day has proven once again. But you were up in arms, James, because Blue is in that pseudo-3-D. Like when Homer Simpson became pseudo-3-D. I'm not, yeah, again, I'm not up in arms in terms of like, but this is something that doesn't need to change. Does it feel like a thing where, well, it's a movie so it should look like a movie?
Starting point is 00:11:49 Yeah. I don't think it needs to. And again, I'm not, and look, it'll probably be great. It's like, it's the same creative team. Uh-huh. I think Bluey's incredible. Still Dave McCormack from Custed. Dave McCormack from Custard.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Joe Brum is the director. So apparently it's going to cost like $35 million, which is... Are we getting any of that? Probably not. As Australian citizens. Probably Disney are going to go. Who paid to develop this through our tax money through the ABC, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Are we getting a little kickback?
Starting point is 00:12:14 No. Huh. Typical. I love the animation style of Bluey. And I think it's a shame to be like, well, this isn't good enough. for the cinema, but I really, I genuinely think it is, like the design of that world is beautiful and I just, and look, again,
Starting point is 00:12:27 it will probably look great, but it doesn't need to look like fucking Ice Age or whatever. No, that's true. It would be funny if everybody paid for their ticket and they went to see Bluey on the big screen, and it was just blown up and massively pixelated. Yeah, that would be fun. That would be funny. Super pixelated 2D. Yeah, but I know afterwards, like, I know, I think Joe Brum was leaving the series, but it will continue. Of course it will, because it's literally the biggest
Starting point is 00:12:47 show in the world. Now, Joe Brum, he's the car, right? He's the car, yeah. That's right. And he created Bluey. That's right. Yeah. Okay. Interesting. He wanted to the creative forces.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Okay. Postman Pat, one of the additional creative forces? I think he was, yeah. Postman Pat, okay. Bob the builder? He did that. He did that. He was there.
Starting point is 00:13:03 He was there. Wow. All right. Okay. Suspiciously there. Very suspicious. Let me just point that out. What's he even doing there?
Starting point is 00:13:11 I guess set building. Set building, exactly. But also, it's interesting because speaking of child actors, but the people behind Bluey have gone out of their way to keep the identities of the children in that secret. They're not known. Okay, so the kid, because again, I've seen almost no Bluey at all.
Starting point is 00:13:27 So the kids, the voices of the kids are real kids. I mean, they might have changed them at some point because it started in like 2018, which is like years ago. So it's very possible that like bingo is like... There's somebody on set waiting for the voice to crack. And then they're like, hey, dad, get him out of here. Get them out of here.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Bag him. Bag them, tug him, send them to a real job. Send him to work at Coles. Anyway, I hope everybody's getting. reimburse for this, except for the Australian taxpayer. Yeah, I hope that too. That's good for us, I think. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:56 I hope some private investor is making a lot of money on the merchandise. Yeah. But they're making millions of dollars. That's right. Well, also if they do, I guess if they do 3D, the 3D models, they can do a slightly different version of the Bluey toys, right? Absolutely, they can. I mean, it's plastic.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Plastic. You know, that weird vinyl, that pop vinyl effect. You don't like that, do you? No. Yeah. Do you watch much blue? No. Why not?
Starting point is 00:14:20 Why would I? I don't know. What's it on? I guess it's on I View. I view. And Disney Plus maybe, but not in Australia maybe? I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Yeah. So I was just to rewind a little bit, Frozen. Frozen 3. What happened at the end of Frozen 2? They did it. They got, there was a mysterious land or whatever. Okay, so that's the status quo at the start of Frozen 3. They'll be at the mysterious land, probably.
Starting point is 00:14:40 All back to where they were. Yeah. What about Incredibles 3? How you feeling? Excited. Really? Yeah. I'm excited for new textures.
Starting point is 00:14:49 Sure. Different outfits. The textures were great in Incredibles 2. And they're all very old now as well, the Incredible. Like, how old's... Craig Dean Nelson. Yeah. Like 87.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Probably, yeah. Yeah. So, you know. But Incredibles are good. Incredibles 2 was... It was all right. If I remember correctly, yeah. He's 82.
Starting point is 00:15:06 What is... What was missing from Incredibles 2? Because I'm sure we reviewed it when it came out. I think it probably came too late. I think it's not... I mean, that first movie is like... It's just a perfect movie. But I guess what's the difference, I guess.
Starting point is 00:15:17 There's an edge in it that maybe is in this... It's not, again, I don't know, what it is. I think it's just, sometimes things just aren't as good and who know, who can explain why, us. It's up to us. We've got to think about it. We're going to think about it. It's probably the textures. I haven't seen Cocoe actually. People say you should watch it because you cry, you cry a little eyes out. Okay. And you're afraid. Yeah, but I don't want it. Yeah. Don't want to. It's right. Anyway, let's talk about the Avengers Doomstay. It's not a trailer. It's a special look.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Oh, one was the Comicon a few weeks ago where Dr. Doom is being yelled at by a Mr. Fantastic for what did he, what did he do? Dr. Doom, the Victor's yelling at him. Yeah. What did he do? He left the gate open. Did he? What got in or out? Rob the robot.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Oh, no. What's your name? Rob. What's the guy? What's the guy? Herbie. Herbie got out. The love bug.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Herbie got out. The love bug. Yes. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, so talk about that. We see like the old X-Men. We see Magnet has long hair.
Starting point is 00:16:07 That's right. What do you think of Magneto is beautiful flowing hair that we say. The X-Men 97 hair. Yeah. Good. Great. Terrific. Looks great.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Thor's back. Through that bit. Sentinels are there. Doom is controlling sentinels. Yeah. It's good to see like screen, like comic accurate, X-Men cartoon accurate sentinels. I'm going to have a quick quiz at the trailer right now
Starting point is 00:16:27 so if we can find all. Oh, you want to find all the Easter. We already found them all. We did just then, we did find them all. That's true. Speaking of, for people who are interested at big sandwich not go or Patreon. dot com slash Mr. Sunday movies,
Starting point is 00:16:38 we've done a fantastic four first steps commentary. Very exciting for us. Which leads into, you know, whatever. Yeah. And if you're wondering if we talk about wigs or jackets, we do. You better believe. believe we do. It's a lot of wig jacket talk, but it's not exclusively. We talk about at one point
Starting point is 00:16:51 you can see through Mr. Fantastic shirt and he's wearing a singlet underneath. You talk about that in every scene. Well, he shouldn't, he should have stopped doing it. And maybe we talk about how the thing's little helmet is different space helmet than the other space helmets. It didn't occur to me at the time, but I kind of feel like maybe the visible undershirt was a deliberate style choice because it's supposed to be like the 60s. It's supposed to be the weird 60s. I didn't say. I wasn't a deliberate choice, Mason. That's not what I said, maybe I said. Okay. Okay, mate. Anyway, Avengers Doomsday, special look mostly. Oh, if we're also doing logistics, people have asked about this, we should say it on the main feed.
Starting point is 00:17:23 We're actually not touring the UK this year. We absolutely not. Logistically, it didn't work out. Yeah, but we will at some point. Yes, that's right. Who when will that be? Probably in the next four and seven years. And as I've said before, as I've said before, predominantly it was an issue of like, you know, logistics and finding the time to do it and sorting everything out behind the scenes.
Starting point is 00:17:43 But also, there is a funny version of the story. And if you see it's in the street, we'll just tell you what it is. I've just scrubbed through the Doomsday special feature special look. Oh my God. Yeah, it is very exciting. It is what it is. A slightly more elaborate version of Thor tries to kill Doom and it doesn't work. I can't believe he can't do that.
Starting point is 00:18:02 I can't believe he can't do it either. Probably because of Doom's magic and special skills. Yeah, I would say that's related. He's got runes. He does have ruins. Magic runes and green magic, green man magic. Yeah. Thor, why aren't you defeating him?
Starting point is 00:18:14 He's got ruins. He's got ruins and green magic. Do we know anyone who's good with runes and green magic? Dr. Strange? Yeah, well, a bunch of those guys. Yeah, he's not in this trail though. Yeah. Yeah, so.
Starting point is 00:18:26 He might work for Doom or whatever. He might work for Doom. Maybe that's where Doom got his ruins. And Green Magic. And his green magic. Betrayal from Dr. Strange. He gave him the runes. It's all of this.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Victor, what did you do? Did you get your runes? From Dr. Strange. Victor. No. You're missing with runes in green magic You don't understand Victor I think he gets it
Starting point is 00:18:50 I think he's got a handle on it Yeah yeah yeah And his mom wants to bring his mom back From hell or whatever Victor it's not worth it To mess with the ruins To get your mother back I know you loved your mother
Starting point is 00:18:58 I don't know I guess it's South African Reid Richards From a slightly different Alternate universe From South African universe Yeah From South African universe
Starting point is 00:19:08 From South African universe Boy I hope we further delve into the South African universe and we discovered other heroes are also there. Just white South African guys? Just white South African guys and it's all of them. You know?
Starting point is 00:19:22 Yeah, so I thought this trailer was stronger than the first. I'm really excited to team up with all the heroes to the main universe. Yeah. Like white South African Black Panther. Yes. You know, something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a fun accent. It is fun to do. It's always fun to do.
Starting point is 00:19:40 And it's allowed. You can do it. I cannot, I cannot stress this enough. It is allowed. I should point that out also. It's allowed at time of recording. In the future, this might not be acceptable and we apologise in advance.
Starting point is 00:19:51 But right now it's allowed and we think it's funny. Yeah. So did this trailer feel better to you? What do you mean? I thought it was better than the last one. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. We also know and we'll talk about this a bit
Starting point is 00:20:02 that the Russo brothers are like, yeah, we'll use some AI maybe. We fight a bunch of people. They did fight. Was it Andy Park specifically? Yeah, who's done so much incredible concept. When you think of a fun piece of concept art from Marvel ever, it's probably him and his team.
Starting point is 00:20:17 Yeah. And yeah, they fired them earlier this year, like April-ish. Yep. Everybody was let go. Don't need them anymore. The classic Deadpool and Wolverine, a poster they're fighting. They're just director of visual development, Andy Park, worked on Avengers Dooms Day five before it came out.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Yeah. Well, maybe you should have worked harder. Maybe you should have. Or not that hard. Yeah, maybe that's true. neat too. Yeah, but now they can, you know, I'm sure they're doing it on the cheap and maybe they outsource a lot of it also that maybe they've put a bunch of, they've got so much art and
Starting point is 00:20:47 concepts and whatever they can just put everything into an AI and be like, give me a version of whatever. Absolutely. Give me a new white South African superhero. That's right. Please. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Anyway, yeah, I think it looks, it looks pretty good. And we'll, I don't know, what else do you say about it? It's Avengers. They're doing it again. They're doing it again. And I'll probably be fine at the very last. But we did get a trailer also, and we know we're moving a way. from more TV stuff.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Trailer for Vision Quest. Oh, yeah. Which is where it's White Vision. So it's White Vision. He's got all the memories of regular vision. Yeah, because he looked at them on a TV or whatever. He looked at them on a TV. Like Loki 2 did.
Starting point is 00:21:23 Exactly. Yeah. But now he's, but he's sort of, he's created a kind of virtual world for himself and various other... He lives in a cupboard. A.I. as I'll say, but like, you know, all the various computer characters. Yeah. It seems more palatable to say all the other.
Starting point is 00:21:40 computer, the computer minds. So we've got James Spader, of course. And he's insisting that there's a moment in the trailer where he's like, we do human avatars, which is good and cheap. But we got James Spader is back as Ultron and various other characters, including Dummy, who's the claw arm for Lion Man, right man. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, that's fun.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Jarvis is there. Yeah, and so he's kind of, because he doesn't have, I guess, the soul. And that's play, played by Jarvis. Played by Jarvis. Play by Jarvis. Yeah. But Mr. Jarvis. It's kind of like a, like a Downton Abbey sort of. of environment in a virtual environment thing.
Starting point is 00:22:13 But it's, what was he going to say? So he's kind of untangling his memories because this version of the vision also doesn't have a soul, I guess, technically, because of the soul stone removal. And he also wasn't the same one in Wanda Vision, which was the one that Wanda created. He was the one repaired by the government to go in to stop. You'd have to have seen.
Starting point is 00:22:29 All that sounds nonsense unless you've seen it. But it is the original vision, trying to kind of puzzle out ways the ways. And maybe he also has a grown-up son. Yeah. And so this, I think, is, This is probably borrowing a little bit from The Vision, which was the Tom King
Starting point is 00:22:44 miniseries where he has built his own family. Which is also similar to what they did in Wonder Vision as well. Like there's a lot of crossover kind of there happening. And sort of trying to live a normal life. Yeah. But while, you know, navigating these fictional... Oh, and is that Friday? Yeah, but it's not Kerry Condon.
Starting point is 00:23:08 No, it's not. Yeah. Well, well. What do you think of that, Mason? Well, she was probably busy. Yeah. So this is Terry Madalus, who also worked on the 12 Monkeys series as well. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:23:18 So, yeah, I think that's, this looks really fun and good. I'm excited for it. But it is a thing where Marvel art, they've just canceled a bunch of TV streaming series or whatever. You know, we know the Wonder Man season two is not happening, among other things. But, yeah. So I think we are going to get less stuff like this going forward because they're trying to pivot back to movies. Because Spider-Man and others, they need to... You can't get $2 billion from Vision Quest streaming series.
Starting point is 00:23:47 No. Yeah, interesting. It's, you know, obviously, you know, things will reveal as the series progresses. It's interesting to be interesting to know how much of this is a part of the computer world and how much of this is the real world. Looks good. Yeah. Looks fun. So it looks a little bit like when we see his house assembling in the virtual world, it looks a lot like the Disney Castle. Oh, okay. Do you feel? Do you think that's in? Let me have a look. No, I think it doesn't. Okay, then.
Starting point is 00:24:11 No, it does. In the sense that they are both buildings. Both buildings. Both nice buildings. Nice buildings that you can live in, and James Spader will be there. You will be there no matter what. I mean, you know, there's another one with human James Spader. There's nothing wrong with that.
Starting point is 00:24:23 I wonder how Ultron even got in there. Do you think he's a remnant in his mind or something? Or he's a recreation. Maybe he was on a floppy diskette. Yeah. Maybe they thought they destroyed every trace of Ultron off the internet, but somebody downloaded him and put him on a floppy disk. That's all it would take.
Starting point is 00:24:38 That's all it would take. Yeah. Yeah. Five and a quarter. Yeah? Yep. All right. If you say so, it's about average.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Mason, A X-Men cast. You know about this? Yeah, I've always been... They've announced all the X-Men cast. Tell me about all of them and I'll give you my opinions. Okay, so we already know from Spider-Man brand-new day. Spoilers for that.
Starting point is 00:24:56 It's made $2 million. You probably already know. Sadie Sink is returning us Gene Gray. What? I know. You're fired. What? You gave away the spoiler, the secret?
Starting point is 00:25:05 Who's firing me? It's you, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm going to leave And then my assistant's going to come in And they just want to have a chat with you, all right?
Starting point is 00:25:15 I mean, if you... Just to, just to, you know, clear the air and, you know, settle some confusion. Move forward and move forward. Exactly. Yeah, you're going to have plenty of time. Yeah. To work on your hobbies. Which is what I've wanted.
Starting point is 00:25:28 Of being fired. That's a hobby of mine? That's your hobby of yours. It is now, I guess. And you haven't, you haven't spent enough time on that lately. You spent a lot of time on that like, you know, when you're 18, 19, 20. I did get fired a lot. Yeah, and then you've just, then you gave it up.
Starting point is 00:25:43 And, you know, that's not true. It's always been a passion of mine, I guess. I mean, it's not true to yourself. And I think it's important you get back to that. Yeah, you're right. You're right, Mason. I can't argue with that. I can't wait to meet your assistant, whoever that is.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Whatever, whatever you've done. Spoiler alert, it's South African Nick Mason. No. Yeah, that's right. I hate South African Nick Mason. Right? As much as I hate real Nick Mason. Who wouldn't?
Starting point is 00:26:06 Anyway, Sadie sick. Yep. He's not coming back. That's just a concept. then we're going to have fun, but you're not actually fired. Yep, okay, cool. But that's just an idea you think about that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:14 And you go, it's regular Nick Mason saying all the regular things he would say, but in that accent. South African. South African accent. Kit Conner is confirmed as Scott Summers or Cyclops. Yeah. Great, love that. What's he from again?
Starting point is 00:26:26 He's from heartstopper. Heartbreaker. Indie Navarete. So you're saying it's Navarete. I've heard people say Indie Navaretti. Navaretti, sorry. But it looks like Navarete. We'll never know.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Well, she's, of course, came into prominence with obsession recently. She's had a bunch of offers. Apparently she turned down some other pretty big stuff for this. She was in some seasons of Superman and Lois. She was, she was also going to say? I think she might be in Heat 2 or maybe turned down Heat 2. But I think she might also still do it as possible for her off. Should she have done Heat 2?
Starting point is 00:27:00 No. She probably got, no. No. Who's your favorite female character in Heat 1? Probably Al Pacino That is actually objectively The correct answer
Starting point is 00:27:12 It's Al Pacino That's a good point actually And you know She was streaming Before obsession That's true yeah She's obviously blown up And it's incredible
Starting point is 00:27:23 The thing I saw someone say Oh you know She was offered this role In this movie And she was offered Two and a half million dollars And she turned it down
Starting point is 00:27:31 And I looked up the guy It was You know I don't know Maybe people love the movies that this guy put together. I'm like, again, it was the...
Starting point is 00:27:39 And it was a horror movie. It's a low-budget horror movie, and I'm like, it seems to me that may... What would happen there is that somebody went, this person who's looking for funding for the next horror movie went,
Starting point is 00:27:50 well, we got indie. Yeah. How much can you give us? And they went, well, if you get her, we'll give you $2.5 million for her. Yeah. For her and then X number of millions for the rest of the movie.
Starting point is 00:28:00 And he went, see, I've offered her. And I mean, how... I'm sure she also doesn't want to be the horror. The obsession girl. scream scream queen forever yeah exactly i mean which would be nothing wrong with that but i mean but also i think like i can't remember who some there's this maybe it was bruce willis who was talking to sam samuel l jackson one time and samuel jackson relayed the story of like this person told him have a character that everybody likes that you can keep going back to
Starting point is 00:28:25 yeah and however your career goes up and down you'll always have you can always be shaft you can always be shaft and and bruce willis said i could be shaft yeah that's exactly right well you can't be sharp. I'm shaft. And Richard Rountry is sharp. It's shaft. And there's your little shaft. Woke shaft. It's, um, a train. Oh, is it? Jesse T. Usher. Jesse Plemons. No. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:48 There you go. But yeah, I mean, so that, that makes sense. And plenty of actors have done this where it's like, you know, it's... Did I say she's rogue, by the way? Did I mention... I don't know. She's not rogue. Sorry, she's, um, Jean Grey. No, sorry, she's rogue. She's rogue. She's wrong. She's right. That's exactly right. And like, you know, so that's the thing you... This, this, I think this is a very smart move because it's a it's a character that will be in the marvel universe for probably minimum 10 years until they get tired of this universe this new universe that's coming up
Starting point is 00:29:18 and reboot it uh also in being in the marvel universe you meet a lot of various very established actors and directors and producers and they go oh we like this person we're doing a non-marvel thing we'll cast you in this or you know and she can she can be in the x-men movies presumably a, you know, a big... Do one every two or three years or whatever. Into universe crossover. If she's popular in the X-Men movie, she gets a solo movie potentially, you know? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:29:46 That's good money and that's good work. And then you can do whatever else you want to do. You can do defending Jacob. She's in the new series of defending Jacob. This time, Indy Navaretti is defending Jacob. He's done another crime. Oh, Jacob. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:02 You think you would have weren't from the previous crime you probably did, maybe. No, no, no, no, no. God damn. Maybe she could do one of those Apple Plus original movies that aren't real. Absolutely. They could call it time to run. Question mark? Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:17 Is it? Yeah, okay. You got to, where are you going to get that artifact? Because it's part of your family. Your dad was a special architect. Nice. And he left a key to a thing and it had a compass in it would lead you on a chase around. And you get to drive a sports car.
Starting point is 00:30:34 Oh, my God. to a vague sunset. Yeah. Cause the vague sunset. Maybe you do a, maybe you do a, like a green screen chase through Rome. You'd be in Rome. I was just thinking Rome would be a great place to do a chase towards the sunset and a sports car. You know?
Starting point is 00:30:47 And what's it really about? It's about reconnecting with your estranged boyfriend or brother or whatever. Yeah, sure. Could be both. Yeah. Whatever. Yeah. Nobody, it's not real.
Starting point is 00:30:58 It's not real. Nobody sees it. It's not real. But the investors are shown a chart with a, with a poster. It's real. And a graph going up and they go, all right, I will give you more money for this. Okay. You can do this, Guy, Richie.
Starting point is 00:31:13 Yeah. This is the kind of movie you make and not real movie. That's exactly right. This is a new face we've got. Maya Boyd is going to be Aurora Monroe or Storm. Very exciting. She has a background in theater, mostly. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:26 So that's cool. I assume. I don't know anything about her. I don't know anything about theater. Yeah, me neither. But stop it. Yeah. I don't like that I can reach up on the stage.
Starting point is 00:31:34 I don't like a. I could get to you. I like being in the cinema because I know that I'm not going to get to anybody. Some people would very much enjoy that. So I think she might have to take a step back from theatre. Yeah. Because she'll be Storm and now people will like her a storm.
Starting point is 00:31:46 And then she'll be like, I'm going to do a season of theatre. And there'll just be people going, hey, shoot some lightning. Hallie Berry was also Storm. Yeah. That's true. Yeah, yeah. And then another person. You only know that because it's my T-shirt says that.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Harry, Hallie Berry was also Storm. It's true. Yeah. We got a new Professor X in Christopher Abbott. It was the best part of Craven the Hunter and also has been in good movies. Oh my God, he was it. He was Mr. Hypnosis.
Starting point is 00:32:10 That's correct. I forgot he was in that. Yeah, yeah. Because he made you forget. Yeah. How do you think he did that? I don't know. Hypnosis.
Starting point is 00:32:16 He threatened you. No, it's good. It's boring and I forgot. It was boring and it was boring and I really like Christopher Abbott. I think that's a great choice. And he's going to have to shave his head and whatever. He was Wolfman, but he was also in good things. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:27 That he did. Like Craven the Hunter where he was Mr. Glass's hypnosis. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Adam Driver, who apparently Marvel have been trying to it for years. He's going to be Mr. Sinister. That's great casting. This is a great cast across the board.
Starting point is 00:32:41 I'm, I really think, I think this is terrific. Now, the rumor was that Charles Melton was going to be beast, but that's off the table now, I think. Yeah. He got a better offer. He didn't want to do it,
Starting point is 00:32:52 or it was a fake rumor. He shouldn't want to do it. Mr. Sinister. Yeah. That's, Adam Driver, of course, was going to do that Steven Soderberg Star Wars movie.
Starting point is 00:33:03 That's right. Which would have been good, mate. And I think he was probably like, well, good, because then I get the big money and then I can do my independent projects that I love so much. Yeah. Oh, I love them. Oh, I love being independent. Ooh, I'm so independent. No, you're not.
Starting point is 00:33:15 No, you're not, Kylo Ren. Got him. But then he's just like, well, I guess I'll do this. And then if you're a villain in one of these, presumably they kill you. Yeah, you put you in the raft or whatever. Yeah, you do one maybe too. They put you in the raft with Rachel Taylor. Rachel Taylor, what she doing in there?
Starting point is 00:33:31 She did all those murders. Jessica Jones crimes. Yeah, she did Jessica Jones. So this comes out in May of 2008, so this is after the next two Avengers movies. But then we're also in that year we've got Ghost Rider and the next Black Panther movie. So that's a
Starting point is 00:33:43 that seems like it's getting back to the old Marvel thing of like two or three movies a year. Let's not saturate. I'm not saying these are sure fire hits because nothing is. But you know, this is like an X-Men movie and a Ryan Reynolds ghost writer movie and Black Panther three. You're in a Ryan Gosling.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Ryan Gosling, whatever. Whatever. They're different men. They are different men. They're different men. Like that's a pretty... It's like, you know, I'd say the riskiest one is probably ghost writer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:13 And even so, that's how they're doing it. But it doesn't matter to Ryan Gosling because he's also Star Wars Star Photo. Well, look, we're going to talk about that before we do. Hugh Jackman made a D-23 appearance. And you could not stop laughing, Mason. I couldn't stop laughing. It started with a titter. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:29 And then it became a guffour. It did, didn't it? As the comedy kept on rolling. Yeah. in this video. You were, oh man, I was worried about you.
Starting point is 00:34:34 I was ruffling. You were. I was ruffling? You were. I was ruffle-mowing. You nearly had to call it to the hospital. I probably wouldn't have, though.
Starting point is 00:34:44 Yeah. Let it peter out, let you die. Wow. Okay. Yeah. Anyway, Hugh Jackman's like,
Starting point is 00:34:49 I'm with Ryan Reynolds and we want to be in Avengers Doomsday. They obviously already are. They've obviously already filmed something for it. Oh, have you seen through this ruse, have you? Mason,
Starting point is 00:34:58 I've figured it out. Wow. I did some investigation. I watched some mystery egg videos. Anyway, great stuff. And then, but you mentioned Starfighter, so there was a trailer that has leaked for Star Wars Starfighter. It's directed by Sean Levy.
Starting point is 00:35:09 He also did Deadpool Wolverine and whatever. It looks pretty fun and, you know. But I mean, I didn't see that, but I did see the most important part, which is they've given Ryan Gosling a signature jacket. Yeah, man. Which is the key. You know, I was not convinced by Star Wars
Starting point is 00:35:22 the concept of Star Wars Starfighter, but if you want a successful Ryan Gosling movie, he has to have a signature jacket. He does. And they did it. They gave him the leather jacket with the Rebel Aline. logo turn upside down made in the skull and crossbones.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Sick. How did they even do that? Yeah. Did you see the font or whatever it, as you call it, is a callback to the original Star Wars poster? Like the Star Wars is the 1970s. Oh, I see right. Okay. Oh, yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:35:47 I get it. That's good. I like it. You like it because you've seen it before. I like it because I've seen it before. So, uh, anyway, I'm proud of you, Mason. Thanks, man. For noticing everything.
Starting point is 00:35:58 Do I get a special noticeer award? You do get a special notice. Hell yeah. But also, it wouldn't be Star Wars news if we didn't talk about Asoka season two. Oh, hell yeah. Which has come hot off the heels of Asoka season one. There's a different type of lightsaber.
Starting point is 00:36:12 Yeah. Remember the double lightsaber? It's an in the middle lightsaber. How does that even work? I don't know. I don't know. So we get the return of a bunch of... But I guess that's if you want to like fight two guys at once,
Starting point is 00:36:25 but you also want to pick your teeth. Yeah. You know? A floss there with a little bit of a little bit. Or put a bit of corn on it. Bit of corn. in the inside. Yeah, hell yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:34 That doesn't seem like a good idea. But this is out January 20th of 2020, 27. It's going to be eight episodes, which is four years after the last season where, who knows where Bail and Skull is, and Enoch and Skywark is back and he's young again and a ghost again. And I know Hayden Christensen was like, I'd be keen to do what Claimworth's TV series with Ewan McGregor and Samuel L Jackson and Natalie Portman live action. I don't think they should do that, but whatever. I just, you know, I'm not, this. You're not feeling it?
Starting point is 00:37:01 I'm not feeling it? You're not feeling the second season to the most boring first season of TV that's ever been released. What did you say? Assoca's doing the most light work. She's doing that there's... It's just people spin it around with lightsabers and Admiral Thrawn's there
Starting point is 00:37:17 and there's starfighters flying around. I'm back in the galaxy. And then it's just Assoca's just there standing in a room. Yeah. It's like, did she... Did Rosario Delson get a contract of like, I won't move? I will not move.
Starting point is 00:37:29 Cannot make me. And no one will notice. Well, I noticed. Yeah. That's why I got that award. You did. Most noticing. Most noticing.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Yeah. So, you know, I will watch it. Maybe they're saving the big Assoca duel. Yeah, probably. I didn't even hate this trailer. But, you know, and I also think often Dave Filoni's series, they get better overtime. Oh, yeah. So, you know, there's a chance that this will be a massive improvement on season one,
Starting point is 00:37:51 which I didn't like very much. I see. I mean, you might have. Oh, big sneeze, Nick Mason's here. Or double big sneeze. It's unheard of. That's illegal. That's not unhurt.
Starting point is 00:38:03 Three is fine. That's not fine. Four is illegal. Oh, is it? Yeah. All right. Four is jailable. Let's move on from D20.
Starting point is 00:38:13 Okay. I want to talk about some AI stuff that's popped up. Oh, hell yeah. We love it. They put a beside. Nobody, why are people not checking this, by the way? But one of the things that's happened is there was a behind the scenes featurette for Supergirl. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Where they showed some AI concept art for Jason Momoa as Lobo. Yes. Which also, like, there's so much fan art of that. over these. Why do you even need to do that? He also just looks like Lobo. All the AI, all the AI pictures would have just been scraped off deviant art. Absolutely. Just the million images. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. So we got that Lobo. Terrific stuff. You know, designs, AI designs for a guy who just looks like Lobo. Yeah. Yeah. Just put him in a leather jacket. There's not that much to it. No. And, you know, paint his skin, well, also giving big fake abs.
Starting point is 00:38:55 That's true. That was good, wasn't it? How we had big fake abs. They were not realistic looking. No. But maybe they're space abs. They might be, which is different, different abs. Spabs. Spabs. We also got there was a Spider-Man brand new day where they released an art book. Yep. And on one of the pages.
Starting point is 00:39:11 There's just cabs. Just cabs smush. New York City cabs, baby. Just smush together. I mean, I know people have said this, but like, how are we at a point where you're getting AI? I mean, it's New York. You could just Google pictures of New York. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:39:25 What are you doing? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I, like, this must be, if this got through, this must be fucking rife. Absolutely, yeah. There's like there's no way that this is just not being used everywhere all the time. Yeah, yeah. So, you know, I think it is like this, in a lot of ways, sadly, like this is going to be the future. And I'm sure maybe some kind of, maybe some kind of middle ground will happen at some point where we've talked about where you can pay an artist, a licensing fee for using their work to create something.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Yeah, uh-huh. But I don't. Yeah, I mean, that was my, that was my hope for this. sort of thing, which was where like, okay, you can, you know, the environmental cost notwithstanding. Oh, yeah, there's that element, too. Where if you wanted to create an image using AI, there'd be like a free database of stuff. Yeah. People, like a Creative Commons database.
Starting point is 00:40:18 And then if you wanted to use copyrighted images, you could pay the licensing fee or whatever. So at the very least, the people you're stealing from get paid in some way kind of thing. Yeah. But, no, that's, I think, I think Disney's. huge billion dollar investment in AI is probably that is the future there absolutely but yeah just just
Starting point is 00:40:39 hire some real guys also eventually you're gonna what's going to happen is you're going to run out of you're going to run out of real images but what is going to happen is that in the future AI generated images of New York are going to be based on a billion AI generated
Starting point is 00:40:54 images of New York and they're just going to get weirder and weirder and more surreal absolutely so if you if you want to use a de-aging app or re-aging app aging app like a 100 times and it just ends up like a wrinkled. Or you, I've seen people say, take an AI image and, take an image and say, they go to the AI and they say,
Starting point is 00:41:11 recreate this image exactly 100 times in a row. And it can't do it. It just gets weirder and weird. Absolutely. It's going to be that. It's going to be, what was that movie, Waking Life? If you want to set all your movies in the waking life universe. What's the waking life?
Starting point is 00:41:24 It was that one. It was all, you know, it was like that rotoscoped imagery. Is that waking life? A scan a darkly also. That kind of thing. I haven't seen waking life. life but it's that wise it is a richard linclair thing there you go god those movies are good a joll haver at least somebody did it oh exactly there's somebody no i know i i didn't mean that as i like a scandinad darkly
Starting point is 00:41:43 yeah me too yeah dan that movie was so surreal and maybe wasn't that's right and everyone was cartoon yeah should we should we should we rewatch some of those for caravan and garbage maybe there's got to be a there's got to be a tracing you want to do a tracing special a tracing specialist yeah so in honor of greg land no yeah Yes, hopefully soon some big tracing movie will come out. Yeah. Cover all the tracing movies. But also all those movies.
Starting point is 00:42:07 I'd like to re-watch it, but I don't want to spend my free time doing it, Southland Tales. Okay. The movie that I hated at the time. And I'm like, but everybody's like, no, this is actually incredible. I don't know if I've seen Southland Tales. Oh, my God. It's the one with Early The Rock. This is one way people are like, The Rock is good in this, actually.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Yeah, yeah, exactly. That's why. But I remember watching that and going, I hate this. Because it's the, it's the Donnie Darko guy. Oh, okay. Oh, Richard Kelly. It's 240. 40 minutes.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Yeah. Happy with that? No. 41% Ron Tomatoes. You're not the only one who hates this movie. That's what I'm saying. But maybe that's people
Starting point is 00:42:39 who didn't understand. Might be. That's a Sarah Michelle Geller. Maybe some people who didn't notice. You know, and I'm a much better notice than I am now than I was back then. You've noticed a lot of things.
Starting point is 00:42:49 I've won awards. I've noticed you noticing things. Yeah, I've won maybe two awards this episode alone. So, you know, maybe it's my time to go back and notice all the things I didn't notice before. Oh my God. I'm willing to admit I've become better. I'm willing to admit.
Starting point is 00:43:02 Will he to admit that? There's a double Sean William Scott. He's twins in it. And Justin Tim Blake's in it. Is he twins? No, but he's going, umt, ooms, ums, you know? That's good. That is good.
Starting point is 00:43:13 As is his want, he's allowed to go, ums, ins, ums. Yeah. You know? That's good. That is good. That's what I'm saying, you know? All right. You know?
Starting point is 00:43:21 Let's, uh... I like him to spy what everybody said in their memoirs about him. And people have said publicly about him? Yes. And the things that he's done? Correct, yes. You like him. I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:43:32 I like him too. I don't like it. I like it. I like it. That was a trick to get you to say you like. Mine's not a trick and I mean it. Wow, that's nice. I'm sorry his world tour got ruined.
Starting point is 00:43:40 That makes me upset. Variety is saying, they're telling us, bad, obviously. Dave Battista has taken over from Ryan Hurst as Kratos in the God of War Amazon Prime series. They're also recasting Atreus as well. And they're going to reshoot. They brought into a room and they were just like, kid. You don't look enough like Dave Bertie. Batista's kid.
Starting point is 00:44:03 So you're out. How big is Dave Battista you going to get? I mean, doesn't need to get as big. They could muscle suit him, I guess. But is he going, is he going big again?
Starting point is 00:44:10 Maybe he's like one last ride. Yeah. And he opens the cupboard with all the creatine and all the natural supplements. He opens his natural supplement cupboard. Why does he got a key? Just in case the neighborhood kids get in and they get huge, you know? They get too big, yeah. They get too big.
Starting point is 00:44:24 You know? And they're riding their bikes, but they're too wide. Yeah. They might get in an accident. You don't want to be too wide for a bike, Mason. Ding, Ding,
Starting point is 00:44:30 Ding. Oh damn Wide bell It's a white bell also Yes The bell got too wide It did by the sounds of things By the way you're describing these noises
Starting point is 00:44:41 And noticing them Yeah I think this I mean this was like This is a good fan casting as well People also like well he's like he's older now You know he's not as big as he used to be or whatever But I don't think he needs to be Enormous to pull this off
Starting point is 00:44:56 They can do angles And CGI and big suits And big suits But also like yeah he can He can also wear a rash shirt Yeah, that's right. That's right. Even in that time, even that scene where, you know,
Starting point is 00:45:08 with Traus and Kratos go to the beach, you can wear a shirt there as well. He doesn't want to get burnt. That's right. And that's why. That's wise. Yeah, this dude's like 8, 9,000 years old or whatever he is. 4,000 years, 250 years.
Starting point is 00:45:19 I don't know how old he is. He's got a big beard. I'll tell you that much. It's true. I know also, who's the voice of Kratos in the game? Oh, it's the guy from Stargate. Yeah, it's, um, I've forgotten his name. Christopher Judge.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Christopher Judge. And he's like, yeah, it's cool that they're doing all of these and whatever, but maybe they should hire someone who worked on the game. And that is it because those games are like the narratives in them, especially for a video game, which sounds like an insult, which I guess it is. And they're really solid. And wouldn't you want somebody who, I mean, you look at like, not so much season two, but the last of a season one,
Starting point is 00:45:52 you know, they got the showrunner from Chernobyl and the guy who won the major forces behind that first game. Because Dave Batiste is 57. Yeah. Christopher Judge of 61, which is not, you know, not a big deal, as far as I'm concerned. I think he just meant not even so much cast, but like, crew? Creatively. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:46:09 Uh-huh. Yeah, which I don't. Because Kratos has been re-because he wasn't the first Kratos either. Oh. I don't remember the name, but they got the original guy. He's coming back because they're remaking the original trilogy or whatever. Oh, I see. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:20 So something to think about. Some to think about. Anyway, they probably gave Dave Battista so much money to do this. That would be it, yeah. Because I don't want to say slumming it, but like. He's doing them a favor By doing this, I feel He's a prestige actor now
Starting point is 00:46:36 He's a prestige actor He's putting down those little glasses He's getting He's opening up the cabinet of natural substances for muscle growth Yes, that he keeps locked He keeps them locked away From the neighbourhood kids
Starting point is 00:46:48 Because their bells don't get too big Exactly That's what you're telling me That's what I'm telling you And they're you know They go off because they're natural You gotta keep them in an airtight container It's the way to keep them
Starting point is 00:46:59 I think so Yeah, great. Well, let's do this last bit of news. It's for the announcement, officially, of the People versus Gorilla Grod, which is a DCU 8 episode television series. Yep. From the American Vandal, guys. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:47:11 I like that. So Skylar Gazondo is going to reprise his role as Jimmy Olson. And Jimmy Tartreau? James, you're telling me. I am telling you. He's in American Vandal. He's the American Vandal. He's going to be...
Starting point is 00:47:22 I mean, allegedly. Yeah, he... Oh, that's true. He's going to be playing Gorilla Grod. So, yeah, it's... And Beck Bennett is back as Steve Lombard. Michaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Wendell Pierce's Perry White.
Starting point is 00:47:32 And again, it's from American Vandal, creators Tony, Yacenda, and Dan Perolt. Here you go. Here's the official announcement. This is a joke announcement, by the way, in case you were worried. Do you like jokes? I'll be the judge of that.
Starting point is 00:47:45 Okay, you'll be the judge of this. The Daily Plan announced today, it will begin production now. An A-PARC documentary series that will dive into Metropolis's most infamous murder trial. The People v. as Guerrilla Grob will take a fresh 360-degree look at the case revealing a lesser scene side of the hyper-intelligent ape. Oh, ho.
Starting point is 00:48:05 Ooh. Got it to the films. First time director Jimmy Olson. This is a fictional press release, mate. I didn't notice it. I was laughing the whole way. Awesome was granted unprecedented exclusive access to interview Grot on Stryker's Island. Okay.
Starting point is 00:48:20 It goes on and on. I can keep going on and on. You don't have to. No, guerrilla Grot has claimed long claim his innocence and the murder and the brain consumption of his father, King Grot, a crime was convicted of in March of 2021. By whom? I don't know. The jury of Gorilla City?
Starting point is 00:48:33 Maybe. The jury of his peers? Maybe. Or not? Probably guerrilla racists. Yeah, could be. Perry White says everyone thinks they know Grod, the powerhunger gorilla who killed his father for the throne of Gorilla City.
Starting point is 00:48:46 This is by Perry White. But once you start looking beneath the food, you start to realize that there's more to that primate. Isn't Guerrilla right in the comics he did kill his father? I mean, probably. Yeah. So maybe he probably did this time. Or it's more.
Starting point is 00:48:57 complicated than it might seem. Maybe it was an accident. Yeah, maybe it was an accident. Maybe he fell out of a window. Yeah. While that dub reggae version of P-I-M-P was playing. Do you think that's what happened? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Yeah. Well, I'm not saying it didn't happen. Have you said anatomy of a fall? Yes, I know, I know that, but I have not seen anatomy and fall. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Good?
Starting point is 00:49:19 It's a good movie. Yeah. Yeah. I haven't even seen the fall too yet, but I know it's coming out. Yeah. Still falling. Fall two stuck on the side of a mountain fall. Yep.
Starting point is 00:49:26 That one? Yep. Yeah. And then whale fall. Whale fall? Wailfall. You were falling. You were falling.
Starting point is 00:49:31 Did you like that bit? He went in the whale, then the whale comes up and breaches the, and you see him sticking out of the whale's mouth. He's like, help me. I didn't say that. Thanks for the spoiler. It's in the trailer.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Thanks for the spoiler. Thanks for the spoiler. Thanks for the spoiler. Thanks for the spoiler, but just the image. So I want to see if you like it. I want to see if you like it. All right. I'm ready.
Starting point is 00:49:48 There is. He's sticking his little letter. No, he's sticking his little letter. I said that. I did say that. It's very funny, isn't it? Yes. How did he get in there?
Starting point is 00:49:57 Oh, we saw. Yeah, he got ate by a while. Damn, I would hate that. I wouldn't do it. It's also about intergenerational trauma as well as being eaten by while. That's right. As is. Dad. That's what he says.
Starting point is 00:50:07 Dad. Yeah. I like this idea. Me too. I don't think it's really, really fun. I don't think anybody hates this idea. No, I mean, it's also, now that people seem to like Lantern and it's doing well, people like the DCU is back. It was gone.
Starting point is 00:50:20 Yeah. It was washed. Until something is. It was washed. Until something is mid and washed and chopped And then it'll be washed and mid and chopped again But at the moment it's looking good And speaking of, maybe we should talk about that, Mason
Starting point is 00:50:29 Let's talk about episode one of lanterns Lanterns Oh yes On HBO has become the biggest DC debut of all time Big debut And the top five HBO biggest release all time For episode one Behind what, Sopranos?
Starting point is 00:50:42 I don't know if that was the top five biggest release of all time when it came out Bigger than the Sopranos finale I don't know if that was I mean that wasn't a debut That was the final episode Bigger than Game of Thrones Uh, probably not.
Starting point is 00:50:54 Wow. Probably not House of Dragon Big. Wow. Whatever. It's a big one? But, uh, yeah. It's a big one you're telling me? Yeah, but I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:51:01 Are you up for this? What do you think the story was? Oh, come on, man. Yeah, come on, man. I got you. Oh, you're freaking every day. Oh, you son of a gun. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:08 Wow. It's like you brought me on as the rookie and you don't respect me. I don't respect you. Okay, good. It's important. Good. Go on, no. So it's, it's, uh, it's a, it's a show.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Blah, blah, blah, blah. Come on, man. Come on, man. So Hal Jordan, he's the Green Lantern. Back in the olden days. Back in the 90s. If you're going to imagine such a time. Yuck, no. He was like, hey, it's me. I'm actually Hal Jordan. I'm cool. I've been in the Greenlandlander for 10 years.
Starting point is 00:51:35 What do you think about that? Oh, you think I'm a cool celebrity? I'll take it. I am. Actually. But, but back then, young John Stewart was like, that guy's pretty cool. Yeah, he's so cool. I could be like, I would love to be cool. I would love to, I would love for my dad to mistreat me until I'm cool. Until I'm cool and fearless and cool. Cool and fearless and cool.
Starting point is 00:51:53 And then I'll be the Greenland. And then we fast forward to the year 2016. Where most of this show takes place. Where it slaps. Absolutely slaps and rips. I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know, man. Take a minute, don't talk, recess your life.
Starting point is 00:52:09 Okay, cool, Ken do it. Well, I'm doing this. I'm going to journal. Anyway, then it turns out in 2016, John Stewart has been chosen by the Guardians of the Universe. the creators of the Green Lanterns. Why don't they have big blue heads? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:22 Well, sometimes they do. Sometimes they don't. They can shift and shape. They've chosen John Stewart to be the potential success to Hal Jordan. And Hal Jordan now is all like, well, everything sucks. Yeah. Everything sucks except beer in America, you know? Which also sucks.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Which also sucks. Yeah. And he's like, I've got to train you, but I don't like your kid. You suck. Yeah, they're making me do this. They're making me do this. I don't like it. But then they have to go to some hiccic.
Starting point is 00:52:47 town. Yep. It's not just any town though. It's a hick town. I said that because there's been a moiter. Yeah. There's been a moiter and the local police are like, this is probably just a regular murder. This is a regular murder.
Starting point is 00:52:58 Moida. This is a regular murder. They don't talk about that. No. It's not 9096 anymore. They don't talk like that. It's really not. They think it's a regular murder but how Jordan's like, no, it's aliens, I reckon.
Starting point is 00:53:08 Yeah. Yeah. And maybe it is. And in the meantime, I hate training you. Yeah. Someone will abandon you at every opportunity. But maybe it's tough love. Maybe it's tough love, but I think it's really that I just don't want to do this and I don't like you.
Starting point is 00:53:18 100%. Yeah. I mean, I know, again, one episode in, I really enjoyed this. I think this is great. I think the really snappy dialogue. I like the fact that Hal Jordan is a jerk. And I like the fact that everybody is very competent, but they will make mistakes all the time. Yeah, sure, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:34 Absolutely. And they point out each other's mistakes and go, you're an idiot. Yeah. There's a lot of that happening. I mean, I think the key to this is the relationship between Hal and John. For sure. I think that's... Paul Chandler and Aaron Pierre.
Starting point is 00:53:47 Great pairing. Great pairing. Same to get along very well off camera as well. If you see any behind the scene stuff or any red carpet stuff, they're mucking about. So Aaron Pierre is secretly English? What? How did he get away with that? I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:53:59 Yeah. I think, we'll probably do more spoilers in terms of like his background or even hell's background, but it does seem like something has happened to Hell Jordan. Because we meet an earlier version of Hell Jordan who's been backed up in the ring. Yes. And so he's from like Happens to the best of us And he's from like 2006
Starting point is 00:54:17 But he seems okay Like something has obviously happened to him In that 10 years Leading up to 2016 Yeah I mean he's gone grayer He's gone grayer That's part of it But also like he just seems to this complete
Starting point is 00:54:29 Like he's like something is like maybe people have talked about Maybe he's been infected or whatever Like it's a parallax thing or Maybe he had a bad day Maybe he had Daniel Poutter 2006 Bigger Sun globally in 2006 That's probably what happened to him
Starting point is 00:54:42 had a bad day. Yeah, exactly. And again, we'll talk more about John Stewart's kind of background. But also, like, he looks so much like John Stewart. It's like, he looks like the cartoon version of John Stewart. It's like you couldn't, like the eyes, everything. He's a little lighter, a controversy. What do you mean?
Starting point is 00:55:02 Like, we can't, we're not qualified. Oh, I thought you meant like he's, like, like, he's white. Oh, no, no, no, no. He's, uh, because traditionally, traditionally John Stewart is very, very dark skin and Nareapir is not. And my understanding is there's been some controversy about that, but we're not, we're not going to get into it.
Starting point is 00:55:18 I can't imagine that I could add to that any. No, absolutely not. No, but I mean, I was like, he's very muscular, you're not light at all. It seems like he's been working out quite a bit. But the look works, yeah. He's got the haunting eyes.
Starting point is 00:55:30 That's what it is, Mason. But also because the animated John Stewart, he doesn't wear a mask, but he has glowing green eyes. Yeah, exactly. Whereas in, you know, most of the traditional green lands wear a mask of some sort.
Starting point is 00:55:42 Not Hale Jordan, it seems, either. Hell Jordan doesn't care either, no. He must have at one point, I assume. Or I think he kept his distance. That could be it. He probably wore a mask and kept his distance. Also, I suspect they probably tried a mask on Carl Chandler and didn't work in any... Because that's a difficult one to...
Starting point is 00:55:57 Ryan Mounce did it? No. He did do it. He did, he did do it. What do you think? Because the costume is a physical costume. Yes. What do you think of it?
Starting point is 00:56:07 Fine. Yeah. We barely see it. We barely see it. And the idea, you know, people, even in the series, because he's approached by fans and people who, you know, know him. And they're like what happened in the uniform. And he's like, you know, when you start a job and you're trying to impress people.
Starting point is 00:56:22 Yeah. You wear the tie and the suit and the tie and whatever. And he's like, but after a while you don't care anymore. And that's his vibe. I think that's interesting. Totally. And as people mention, you know, when you see Guy Gardner in the Superman movie, he's glowing and he's, you know, he's flying on a big streak of green light and all these, you know, green lantern. A big and garish.
Starting point is 00:56:41 Big and Garrish or whatever. And I like this version of Hal Jordan where he's just like, I don't need to do any of that. Yeah. It attracts attention I don't want. Yeah. Also, the powers down his ring over time as well. Because what we've seen from the first episode, and that will show up, he doesn't have the lantern to charge his ring at this point. Or if he does, it's not.
Starting point is 00:57:01 He hasn't revealed that. Yes. Uh-huh. Yeah. But, you know, a lot of people said that like, oh, this is very true detective. It's a small-town murder. There's like the 10-year time jump or whatever, which is similar to true detective. But this to me, which I just started watching by almost coincidence, rewatching,
Starting point is 00:57:15 it feels like the Watchman TV series. Yeah, right. Even the ending, like, the kind of, because everyone talking about it, there was a twist ending to the first episode. Yeah. And it's playing. It's a lanterns brown. Yeah, but it's old superhero tropes and, like,
Starting point is 00:57:26 people who have been doing this for a while and better and characters coming up against new superheroes and all of that. Because this is Chris, this is Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King. And Damon Lindel, of course, worked on the Watchman TV series. So to me, yeah, there is true detective into this, but this is very Watchman TV series-esque. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:46 And I am glad that it is coming out one episode at a time. Because I think if they did it, you know, some, and first of all, I think it shows faith in HBO and DC to not just dump the whole lot as they often do with stuff like this. Do they do that? I don't know, but, you know, a lot of streaming services do or at least, or, you know, sometimes release two or three up the top. Because I think if that happens, we tend to
Starting point is 00:58:09 rush through them. We tend to be like, okay, and then episode one, this happened. Okay, we're done. Now, and episode two, this happens, you know, but I like this. There's a lot to unpack in this. Obviously, like, they're there to investigate this murder, which Hal Jordan thinks as aliens, because this particular place is significant in his life and his origin as Green Lantern. And he suspects there's more to this. And of course, there's, you know, a local businessman played by Garrett Dillahunt, who seems to have an interest in this and seem to have an interest in Hal Jordan being able to to continue this investigation
Starting point is 00:58:42 which you wouldn't think like a local rich businessman who's got his fingers and all sorts of pies would want him to do but Hal Jordan ends up in jail for reasons we'll talk about and then he gets bailed out by this guy and who seems to you know he's got an agenda
Starting point is 00:58:58 something's going on. There's a local there's a local sheriff. Yeah lady sheriff who I just call the sheriff because I'm very enlightened you are like that And her and Hal Jordan maybe have a history? I don't know if that's the case.
Starting point is 00:59:12 I'm sorry to her own history, but I think maybe they've just crossed paths a bunch of times and they don't like each other. Well, she certainly doesn't like him at all. Yeah. Yeah. I guess is this a spoiler to say that where he got the ring from and whatever? An alien.
Starting point is 00:59:24 Yeah, I know, but like where specifically in relation to. Oh, round here. Yeah. Do you want to just do some spoilers now? Let's do some spoilers. I think it's, yeah. But I think if you've got HBO Max or if you don't, but you think you can get a free week.
Starting point is 00:59:36 Yep. And maybe you could get a free week. Maybe also you have access to a, due to hacking technologies. Maybe you're the GTA6 guy. Maybe you're the GTA6 guy? Has the GTA6 been leaked? Some of it has. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:59:49 It seems like somebody has a full build of it. Whoa. Is it us? Yes, but they're also selling crypto. Okay. Yeah. The dog? Yeah, the dog.
Starting point is 00:59:56 Wow. How much do they want for crypto? Not that much, actually. It's like $17, something like that. Okay. Yeah. New Zealand. I'm not going to the exchange.
Starting point is 01:00:05 I'm not doing it. It's probably close. It's best show ever. I hope it sticks the landing. Yeah, who knows. Yeah, okay. Yeah. So I guess the big twist on this is the episode ends.
Starting point is 01:00:16 Yes. In 2026, a flash forward. So it's interesting because... But to us would be a flash just around now. Yeah. Because it is 2026. So it's like he gets the ring in like maybe 86. So we're talking about Al Jordan.
Starting point is 01:00:28 Revealed in 96, right? Something he's backed up in 2006. Yeah. The murder mystery takes place in 2016. Yeah. And then so... And in flash forward to 2026, John Stewart returns to that small town.
Starting point is 01:00:42 Yeah. To the local football pitch where the murder took place 10 years ago. And we find on the bleachers, it's Mr. Hal Jordan. Seemingly he's dead and the ring is gone. Do you think he's actually dead? No. I think he is. Well.
Starting point is 01:01:00 I think it doesn't stop him coming back. Yeah. Because as we've seen, there are shapeshifters. Yeah. There are people, there are aliens that can perfectly mimic humans, and there's a holographic... The halogram. Hallogram that...
Starting point is 01:01:12 But here's the thing, though, given that we've just to set, because in the episode, Hal and John stop the suspect who they think has committed that murder. They bring him into the... He gets brought to the police station, and Hal eventually gets an opportunity to interrogate him.
Starting point is 01:01:29 Great sequence, by the way. And it's very good. The bit where he's just like... I thought it was a lot of fun, the idea that he... Hal's got a hunch and he's not going to, he doesn't, he's not going to beat it out of him. He's not going to beat it out of him and he's not going to get him with like local knowledge, but he's just like, or like the broad knowledge of earth.
Starting point is 01:01:50 Yeah. But he's like, what do you think of Barack Obama in 2016? The guy's like, well, there's some controversy about his birth certificate and he's like, that's your opinion. That's your opinion. You in this town of Barack Hussein Obama, that's you think, you think he's slightly controversial. and that's how he figures out that this guy is not... Because he doesn't know the specifics
Starting point is 01:02:09 and he asks him like... No, he knows the Wikipedia suburb. But he doesn't know where Harry Potter went to school or whatever. Yeah, exactly. But, you know... I thought that was great. But we established... John Stewart tells the sheriff
Starting point is 01:02:19 that even though she has taken him to the hospital and x-rayed this guy or whatever, that there are at least 14 species, alien species that can perfectly replicate a human being down to the, you know, the internals and the DNA and what have you. So that human technology can't detect it. Which would suggest it. potentially that this hell Jordan, the dead hell Jordan is an alien.
Starting point is 01:02:38 Yes. But also like, because it's Linda Lof, because it's Linda Lof, he knows that we know that. Exactly. But he also knows that we know we, et cetera. So, I mean, I think that's pretty interesting work that. Totally. It could really go anyway. It could really go either way.
Starting point is 01:02:55 But I know James Gunn is very, very much like if someone is dead, they are dead. Like, that's the thing that he did with like guardians. But he also said if a script is finished it. definitely finished. And if a movie's good, we'll release it as the movie Supergirl. You're absolutely right. He's a liar. He's a liar.
Starting point is 01:03:11 He's a liar. But also, like, you could have Hal Jordan be dead and keep him around as the hologram. Yeah. You could. It's a hard, like. You could also be like, okay, but we're establishing that he's going to die and then he's going to come back as parallax and then we return him as Al John.
Starting point is 01:03:26 But I think that's looking too far ahead. Yeah. Look, my hope would be he remains alive and at the end of the series he's retired. I think the... I think it's, yeah, I mean, the clues could point either way, but I think that's, I would rather that, I like the character too much to be like, and again, maybe Kyle Chandler is, you know, he's committed to one season and he doesn't want to come back for movies or eternal cameos and bring him up in a, in a movie every year or whatever, to have one scene or whatever.
Starting point is 01:03:54 Totally. But, you know, I just like the character still be alive. So, where can we go from here? Well, he was chosen. The alien ring came to him. Yes. when he was asleep because he was a fighter pilot. For people who don't, yeah, for people who don't know the origin of how Jordan Green Lantern is he is a test pilot.
Starting point is 01:04:11 I love that they don't do it. They're just like, yeah, this is it. Yeah, we've seen it enough. It's in the previous movie, which is canon. It's a great movie. But he's been test piloting and then a big green bubble picks him up, takes him to nearby his tent. Well, no, it says to him, are you afraid? And he says no.
Starting point is 01:04:28 And then it picks him up, takes him to this guy, Abensur, who's the previous Greenland. and of this sector of space, which includes Earth. Played by Tamiawara Morrison in the movie. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And the guy's like, okay, well, you can have the ring and you can be Greenland. And he's like, okay, I will. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:43 But it also appears to be that, as it often is the case where he just happened to be there. Yeah. Like he's not, Abinster's not even, he wasn't looking to pass on the ring. The ring just found a guy. Yeah. And also in the Greenland, we've seen prior to this, of course, is we mentioned Guy Gardner in the Superman movie. in his back story the ring
Starting point is 01:05:05 when Abin Sir crashes on earth the ring goes around searching for someone without fear he can pass it along to and he's Guy Gardner's story the ring also found him to be without fear but Al Jordan was closer right that's why so he's mad about it so yeah he's probably mad about it
Starting point is 01:05:22 but what's interesting as well I think is that we see so in the opening sequence we see John Stewart as a boy. Yeah. And he discovers in 1996 and he watches the TV before his father gets home and learns that Hal Jordan has revealed himself as Green Lantern. And then his father shows up knowing that he has seen that show and they know about Green Lantern.
Starting point is 01:05:47 That's clearly a family thing. And then John Stewart's father takes him out of the back and shoots an apple off his head with a gun. Yes. And it's clearly happened before because you can see bullet holes in the wall. And he knows the deal. He knows the deal. Yeah. So that was, so it's, so it's, it feels like, I think the ring went to him first.
Starting point is 01:06:04 Yeah, see, that's the thing. So like the guy Gardner thing, I think the, the question then is how does his father know about the green lantern concept? Yeah. It would suggest, yeah, that the ring went to him and for whatever reason it didn't choose him. So maybe they, the ring said, are you afraid? Maybe he hesitated. Or maybe he hesitated too long and the ring was like, well, there's no time. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:24 And it left, what have you. But clearly he knows about or he's learned through his military connections. Yeah. about the concept of the ring. Maybe the guardians have spoken to him about. Yeah. Because I get the sense from this and what I've seen from the trailers as well. They don't love the fact that Hal Jordan is the Greenland and they're looking to replace him.
Starting point is 01:06:42 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because Laura Lenny plays. Yeah. One of the Guardians, yeah. And so, again, in 2016, the Guardians have decided to take on John Stewart as the potential replacement for Hal Jordan. So what John Stewart's father is doing is attempting to, make him fearless, make him the candidate that maybe he couldn't have been.
Starting point is 01:07:04 Also, and that's the, you know, the, the ongoing theory is that his father's attempted to make him into this perfect candidate. One thing I haven't seen and I thought might be an interesting idea is that maybe that's not his father at all. Maybe it was his father, but it's, maybe that's the twist. It's an alien shapefifting. Maybe we're supposed to think that Hal Jordan, the dead Hal Jordan, is a shapeshifter, but maybe John Stewart's father is the shapeshifter.
Starting point is 01:07:28 Maybe he's part of an alien species That wants the Green Lantern Ring But if the Green Lantern Ring Knows you have ill intent It won't You can't use it So if he grooms his kid To be the perfect candidate
Starting point is 01:07:44 Who thinks he's going to get the ring And do good deeds with it Then right The aliens can't control the ring But they can control the wielder of the ring Because his dad's still alive Yes Because we know he takes a phone call for him in 2016
Starting point is 01:07:56 So maybe he's like Hey, well, now you've got the ring. Maybe you blow that planet up. Yeah. That planet of the guys we don't like. It's bad and no good. It's bad and no good, exactly, yeah. That's interesting.
Starting point is 01:08:08 What else? Well, it's also said that, like, there is only one, there's supposed to be one Greenland at a time, but we also know at the end of this that Hale Jordan doesn't have the ring. Yeah. John Stewart doesn't have the ring. Well, you don't see him wearing a ring. No, true.
Starting point is 01:08:21 And Guy Gardner does. Yes. And he's had it for quite a while. It seems like he's had it for. So when did this happen? When did the transfer happen? It's not the same ring. It doesn't look the same.
Starting point is 01:08:30 No, but the ring can change shape. Because some people have different size fingers or no fingers or, you know. Yeah. Put it around your head. Put it on your head. This is from thread. Somebody asked James Gunn, the solitary chirper says, am I correct in assuming that the presence of Clark and Kara on Earth is why the
Starting point is 01:08:44 Guardian suddenly decided the backwaters of the sector Earth is in is needed more than, is needed more than one Green Lantern? Is that why you have both hell and Guy and James Gunn just said, you'll find out? Oh. So they're going to answer. why there is. Right. It seems at least two Greenlands.
Starting point is 01:09:00 Yeah. So in the comic books, obviously, there's a bunch of Greenlands operating simultaneously. But yeah, so that... Some have different rings and different abilities and colors and whatever.
Starting point is 01:09:10 It could also be that Guy Gardner is assigned to another sector and he just keeps coming back to Earth. Yeah. Because again, and maybe the Guardians don't want him to do that but they can't stop him.
Starting point is 01:09:20 Yeah. He does what he wants. He does what he wants. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, also we're going to get a few things, including we get Sinestro.
Starting point is 01:09:29 We're going to get at least one space scene in this, which is good. But yeah, I don't know. And I think we probably talked about this when it was announced when we first saw the trailer. But I just love that this is a small town mystery, but it just happens to be that Green Lantern is there. Yeah. I think that's great.
Starting point is 01:09:45 Yeah. I like the construct stuff that we've seen so far. I was incorrect. I assumed that that learning to fly sequence that we see in the trailer was going to happen before how Jordan jumps out of the car. Oh, yeah. But, no, that happens right at the start.
Starting point is 01:10:00 Yeah. Hal Jordan jumps out of the car that he's picked. John Stewart up in and lets him, and drives it off a cliff and just expects him to. Oh, and he's also, how old jordan's like two weeks late because he was in space. Yeah. Which I think is when we're going to get the flash back to the stuff with Sinestra or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you think we're going to get John Stewart and full outfits?
Starting point is 01:10:22 Yes. Construct outfit, regular outfits? 100%. Yeah. Yeah. Which one? Construct or regular? Oh, he's probably got one ready.
Starting point is 01:10:31 Probably, yeah. It's probably regular then, yeah. It's interesting that though he has been tracking this or has been paid attention to it since he was a child. And now somehow it's ended up that he is the next Greenland. Like, how did that even happen? Like, who orchestrated that? Yeah. You know?
Starting point is 01:10:48 Well, again, I think it is the, I think it's the training from his father. Yeah, but like, there's still, I'm sure there's a bunch of fearless people that could potentially be. The fact that he got this close and is now and is the candidate that they want. Like it's obviously not a coincidence. Yeah. I just how that happened. I like that alien theory, though, that his dad's a shapeshifter. Yeah, maybe.
Starting point is 01:11:06 What else is great? I like the fact that when John arrives on the crime scene initially, he's like, well, you haven't seen that guy who's acting suspiciously. And every other party's like, no, we have. And you've ruined this. You've ruined it. Yeah. And I love the sequence where Hal puts the annoying song on the jukebox. because he's planning, because they won't let him see the suspect,
Starting point is 01:11:27 so his plan is to get into a fight at a bar and get arrested, and then the sheriff is like, we know you were doing that. So I'm going to put you in a broom closet. That's, you dumb ass, you stupid idiot. That's fine, no matter how badly you think I'm getting beaten up, don't intervene. He's like, no problem. No problem.
Starting point is 01:11:43 What else? John Stewart sleeps with the rich guy's wife immediately. Because she wants information, I think. And also, the assumption. And he knows. Yeah, the implication is maybe he sent her to do that or whatever. Some of us suggest that's Vandal Savage. Immortal World Conquer of Vandal Savage.
Starting point is 01:12:01 He's very young for a grandpa, fellow. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, Garrett Dillan. Who, of course, was Mr. Cromarty in the Sarah Conner Chronicles. He was, among other things. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I don't mind that Vandal Savage theory. I assume also, like, because his wife is not the one he had kids with potentially,
Starting point is 01:12:20 because she's quite a bit younger than he was as well. Yeah, well, it's also interesting. Because Kelly McDonald's like 40. I think the, The thing, I mean, if I were to be critical about this, it's like, it's impossible to know how old anybody is in this. I think they've just cast based on talent. Oh, totally. They've done chemistry tests with people and they've gone, these people.
Starting point is 01:12:36 Sorry, Calais, California's 50. Yeah, uh-huh. And he's 61. Yeah. So, yeah, there you go. So he had her when. Wait, no, but that's not his, wait, is that his daughter? I think it was his daughter.
Starting point is 01:12:47 Or is the son. Yeah, well, even then his son would be at least mid-40s, right? Yeah, exactly, yeah. Yeah. Jason Ritter. Yeah, he's 46. I don't know what to make him any of this. I don't know what to make. They've made terrible mistakes.
Starting point is 01:12:58 I've made terrible mistakes. What else? He's married to Melanie Linsky. C? Yes. Jason Ritter is. Oh yeah, that's right, yeah. I'm really important.
Starting point is 01:13:06 You said that famously? Somebody put up like a fun video about Melanie Linsky and someone was like, Jason Ritter, can you fight? Like as in, I'm going to steal your wife or whatever, and he put up a video of him wildly swinging punches. Anything else? Well, we're going to see Guy Gardner. Yep, that's true.
Starting point is 01:13:25 I think something's... I'm interested to know what happened to Hell Jordan. Why is he like this? Why is he like this? Well, he wasn't always. Like 10 years early, he wasn't like that. That's true. And now he's like this.
Starting point is 01:13:35 He's disillusioned. Yeah, so something happened. It's probably just all the paper. I mean, it could also just be that he knows he's being replaced and he doesn't like that. Seems certainly seems that way. I mean, that's part of it, but I think it's something else. Why does he need to see Sinestro? Also, the alien conspiracy thing is that like, they obviously have a personal grudge with the lanterns.
Starting point is 01:13:52 And like, they know he knows he. oath. Yeah. So I think probably there are a race that the lanterns let down or tried to eradicate. We haven't mentioned this, but it is definitely in the trailer. But so, and again, this is spoilers for the series, I guess. But in the comic books, the Guardians of the Universe who created the Green Lanterns, prior to doing that, they created the Manhunters who are, who are Android.
Starting point is 01:14:12 Robots, aren't they? They are, for the most part, robots. But these ones aren't. Yeah. And they were a mistake. And they were just like, well, you know, they turned into this, you know, planet. at destroying and they started cults on various worlds and all this sort of stuff. They were a huge mistake and the guardians sort of were like...
Starting point is 01:14:30 What if we had magic? Yeah, what if we had magic rings instead? We'll try magic rings. We should have tried magic rings to start with. And we'll keep them great. Nobody's going to make different coloured rings. No, that would be a... It wouldn't look as cool.
Starting point is 01:14:41 No. No, man. I think that's about it. I'd say check out episode one, the one episode that we've seen. Check out episode one? Two by the time this comes up. I'm excited for tomorrow. It's going to be...
Starting point is 01:14:51 Yeah, me too. Good to look forward to something every week. Like a good show. There might also be a red lantern in this. Oh. Because we'll see, they retconned it. So in the comic books, they retconned it the reason Abincer was flying through the universe on his spaceship. Because why wouldn't you just fly in a green lantern ring is he was transporting a guy called atrocitus?
Starting point is 01:15:12 Oh. And that's the first red lanterns. He's bad. He's bad. Yeah. He's red. And he's red and he's got a cat. Does he?
Starting point is 01:15:20 Yes. Is it a hologram cat or a real cat? Regular cat. Regular Earth cat. Alien cat, I don't know. Make up your mind. A tree? Yeah, all of you.
Starting point is 01:15:29 Wow. Was he a green lantern at any point? No. Okay. Just no. All right. Nice name. Pretty good, right.
Starting point is 01:15:35 Seems like a normal name to have. It's always good, isn't it? Oh, hang on, somebody put in Reddit all the fun dialogue from lanterns. Let me just, let me just dig that. All of the dialogue. No, just some of the dialogue. Some of the dialogue. Sounds good, man.
Starting point is 01:15:47 Sounds cool. Yeah, cool. I've typed out all of the dialogue. That's cool, man. How come it is every time you say, sir, it sounds more like F you. That's good. I like the idea that Hal shows up really late to test him. I thought that was fun.
Starting point is 01:16:01 Because clearly he wants, Hal wants somebody who doesn't respect authority. Yeah, absolutely. Whereas John Stewart's still in this mode of like, well, I won't say anything because this is the boss technically. Absolutely. Did you make that fake money? No, I manifested money with the power of my will. Junior, he's a vegan, he doesn't believe anything that causes enjoyment. That's fun.
Starting point is 01:16:21 Is he a vegan in the... I don't think so. I think that's new. As a rural Nebraska, that's the breadth of your opinion about Barack Hussein Obama. Yeah. That was good.
Starting point is 01:16:30 Yeah. We're talking and exploding because it's almost lunchtime. Good stuff. Yeah. That was good. Where is his landing? What's he done with it?
Starting point is 01:16:38 Where is it? We do see it. It's going to turn up. Yeah, no, it's going to turn up. Yeah. But I don't know what he's done with it. He probably knows where it is. You would hope he knows where it is.
Starting point is 01:16:46 I mean, you might not. Yeah. What's a green Latin? How long has a green lantern ring last? They changed. it. Okay, so it used to, so back in Howe Jordan's time, you charge it and it would last for 24 hours, but then they changed it when Kyle Rainer got the ring. 24 hours, no, you could use it for an unlimited amount of time for 24 hours. Okay. You could lose an unlimited amount of use for like you could do anything with it. And then when they, when Kyle rain- Get to charge the lantern? No, the lantern gets its power from the central power battery on the planet OA. Oh yeah, that's right. I guess it's a Wi-Fi situation.
Starting point is 01:17:18 Well, we've got a Wi-Fi to the ring. Doesn't matter. Go on. Doesn't have enough. Doesn't have enough bandwidth. I don't know. Doesn't have enough bandwidth. That's you. I know. And then, yeah. And then when the ring, when Hal Jordan went bad and he took all the power from the central power battery, if I were to become parallax.
Starting point is 01:17:38 But it actually wasn't him because it was a big yellow space bug or whatever. Carl Rainer was given a reconstructed version of Howl's Ring and a separate lantern, which was powered by something else. I don't know. Yeah. And he could, it had like a, like a fuel tank, basically.
Starting point is 01:17:54 And it would, as you used it, it would run down, and then it would run down an unspecified amount of time once you'd used it enough. I'm pretty sure. And now they're all,
Starting point is 01:18:02 I think, I think they're all like that. We recently read one for it. We recently read Green Latin Farsector. Yeah. And the main character that has a specialised ring which is, because she's been sent to,
Starting point is 01:18:13 out of normal space and potentially out of range of the power battery, the central power battery. Yeah. So her ring replenishes by itself. But very slowly and it's not as powerful. It's like having the Ironman suitcase armour. It's like, sure, it's pretty good.
Starting point is 01:18:26 Yeah. But, you know. You'd rather have it than not have it. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Oh my God. Is that the show? No.
Starting point is 01:18:32 No, we've got other segments, Mason. Are you all right? No. But we do have to do letters, obviously. But before we do that, we do. We do what we read. Yep. What we're going to read.
Starting point is 01:18:42 Yay. I'm doing nothing. Okay, Mason. Okay. Okay, okay, this is great. Where we talk about things that we're going to read or doing reading or what we've watched or what we're going to do. Do you have something you're going to do? James, I don't have you.
Starting point is 01:19:02 I know you do. I know that I do. What have you got? I'm going to watch, I haven't watched it yet, but it is out. It's Tony. Oh, yeah, I want to see Tony. It's the Anthony Bordane biopic of sorts. So if you have, if you've read his first book, Kitchen Confidential, there's a, there's a section towards the start that
Starting point is 01:19:23 details his kind of early his young life in living in a kind of seaside town and and yeah thinking that kind of being a being a line cook is like cool and fun and this is you know but it's not um i don't know because i'm sure i've talked about this before but i think that the the strength of that book is that it does make like like it does make the whole concept of it and like you know working in a kitchen and all that it kind of makes it feel kind of rock and roll yeah i mean he's got he had a way with kind of that where you're like, yeah, it's, you know, it's slaving away under, you know, in front of a friar or like doing meaning, like, menial work and all this sort of just chopping vegetables or whatever.
Starting point is 01:20:05 But he made it feel like, but then there's that kind of seedy underbelly and afterwards you all smoking cigarettes and, you know, you know, hanging out at night with the night people and all that sort of stuff. And I'm always like, yeah, that's pretty cool. You love the night people. Yeah, but this is Dominic, it's Dominic Sessor, as Anthony Bordane, who people will know from the holdovers, which I thought was great. I haven't seen it.
Starting point is 01:20:25 And it's got that guy. Stavros, Helgeus. He's also in this. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, but it's directed by, it's Matt Johnson, who's Blackberry. And Nirvana the band of the show, yeah. Which I haven't seen, I haven't seen that also. I know, I have to watch that.
Starting point is 01:20:39 I should watch the show, all the web series and then the movie. Yeah. Because the show is about them, they need to play a show with the Rivoli, and they did a screening of it at the Rivley in Melbourne. Yeah. Fun, fun bit. Fun. And I think Matt Johnson was there.
Starting point is 01:20:51 I'm pretty sure, but I didn't make it to that. Yeah, I haven't watched... I haven't really watched anything this week, but I have tomorrow off, so I'm going to go see Tony, I think. Tony? Your mate, Tony. Also, the Nova, it's I Dollars ticket on Monday. Adol's ticket on Monday.
Starting point is 01:21:04 That's my ticket free. Also, that's come out, the rivals of Amzai King, which is the new Matthew McConaughey movie. What's he up to? He's a bootleger or something? I think maybe he's not the main character, though. Okay.
Starting point is 01:21:17 Kurt Russell is in it at saying, is he? Unless AI is telling him. Cole Spruisers? in it. Cole Sprauss, one of the sprauses. Which one was Jughead? Cole or Dylan? Yeah. Yeah. You're right, man. You're not wrong. You're right, man.
Starting point is 01:21:29 Yeah, yeah, yeah. But anyway, uh, Tony, fun coming of age story. And it's a biopic, but it's not the breadth of his life. It's just a snapshot. It's just the snapshot. Yeah, yeah. I love a snapshot. I love a snapshot. Because again, WarCard already did it. That's true. They did, yeah. Yeah, yeah. How much of it is, is, I'm understanding they're taking some liberties with the story. But, you know, I like everybody involved. So that
Starting point is 01:21:51 That's got to be fun. Antonio Mandaris is in it. Oh my God. Antonio Manoris. He was in Indiana Jones 5. Yes. Yes, he was. And Uncharted.
Starting point is 01:22:00 He was in Uncharted. He's the man with no blood. That was his character. It was called the man with no blood. Because when he gets his throat cut, there's no blood. And I think that was important to the plot. Why do you think that happened to him? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:22:12 I don't know. Anyway, what have you been up to? Well, Mason, I was talking about this bit last week, but I finished now common side effects. Which is a HBO anime. show where everyone's got a big baby's head. Big baby head. You showed me a screenshot. I'm like, those are big baby's heads.
Starting point is 01:22:27 So season one happened in 2025 and it's created by Joe Bennett and Steve, Helly. Joe Bennett worked on scavengers rain, which are going to mention last week, which is just incredible. And if you haven't seen it, you should. It should be more than one season, but it's not. It's only one season.
Starting point is 01:22:40 But it does work as a singular season. And the show is about basically, there's this mushroom that is discovered that can seemingly cure anything. Any ailment, broken bone, illness, it'll kind of put you back at a baseline. Okay. And it appears there are no common side effects maybe. Oh yes.
Starting point is 01:22:56 Very good. Maybe. And it's one of those things where everybody wants it, like some to use it, some to destroy it because it's the pharmaceutical industry because it's a lot of commentary on that. It's built around keeping people sick and selling them products and solutions to problems
Starting point is 01:23:10 that they will often cause or, etc. And it's about also what, like some of the plot points I should say, like can this even be recreated in a different environment? this particular mushroom. And should you even make it wildly available and free to people? And what happens to the world economy if suddenly there is a drug that fixes literally everything? What are the like the ramifications of that? And so it's about sort of some people trying to do the right thing with it.
Starting point is 01:23:39 But other people trying to like get ahead of that and use it for their own purpose or destroy it entirely. But it's also like what is the right thing for something like this? And there's a limited supply. So who do you give it to and whatever? It's this whole thing. Mike Judge is also in it from Beavis and Butthead, the creator of, among other things, including Office Space and he's a great voice in it. Again, so there's 10 episodes from 2025, but next year there's going to be a season two.
Starting point is 01:24:02 Oh. Is this new to you? I'd seen it like in the past, I don't know, however long, like seeing clips of a pop-up or whatever. And it's incredible. It's well worth a look. And also, it doesn't, it's interesting because like it plays kind of like a, like a, a really expensive, like HBO show, live action thing, but it's...
Starting point is 01:24:21 Severance. Yeah, but it's not. It's like... It's cheap, it's free, basically. It's free. It's big head animation free. Sure, absolutely. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:29 They just took the character models from NBA Jam. Yep, that's right. Put them right in there. And Golden Eye, big head mode. But also, like, a bunch of the cast you wouldn't know, so they're, like, their proper voice actors. You get, yes. But you get real performance.
Starting point is 01:24:42 Yeah, right. It's really, uh... Okay. Yeah. So this isn't just, this isn't a like, and it's starring famous person. I mean, there are, probably for more famous people in it than I've mentioned. Is Dom an accessor in it?
Starting point is 01:24:52 I don't think he is because he's in... Then I'm not interested. You're not interested in this podcast because Dominic assessors in it as well. That's what you told me. Correct. Is that true though? Yeah. Damn, man!
Starting point is 01:25:04 Should we move to the next thing to the show? Let's do it. Just play it off your phone, Mason. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it. Which party you... You know, I'll play the thing. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:24 Now let's break this down. When you said you're sick of it, What specifically you refer to? I don't know, man. You know, every day. So that was a general cry for hell, buddy. I'm sick of it. You have a nice time.
Starting point is 01:25:34 I do have a nice time. You mostly have a nice time. I'm having a nice time right now in the letter segment. If you do want to send a letter, you can to Nick Mason's personal Gmail at weekly planet bodplod at gmell. My personal email is weekly planet bod at Gmail. Because you know I got that weekly planet bod. You better believe it, which is not a good thing for those people. No, it's bad.
Starting point is 01:25:53 It's bad. Or you could go to Planet Brassy. But, please, Louise Mason. You're sick of it. I really must be. Planet Broadcasting Great Mates Group. I am actively giving you a sickness right now. Well, my kid, one of my kids have been sick.
Starting point is 01:26:07 And I've dodged it so far, but maybe you got it somehow. I think I got it. Whatever your kids have. She doesn't have what you have, though. She's like feverish and, yeah. I mean, I've got a fever. Go on. And the prescription is like prescription.
Starting point is 01:26:20 Prescription. Yeah. So she's on an antibiotic. Okay. Has she considered more cowbell? She's, yeah, what's all we've been doing? Just a really loud cowbell. Okay, great.
Starting point is 01:26:31 Would you consider buying your children like musical instruments? Yeah. They've got like a little piano and whatever. Oh my God, they've got the little peanuts piano? No, no, I do have that, but I have like a big, you've seen. It's like a big keyboardy thing. I declare that her place has a bunch of, she loves musical instruments. Is she shown any aptitude yet?
Starting point is 01:26:47 No. Enthusiasm? Enthusiasm's good, yeah. They've got enough shit on at the moment where, my son did play keyboard for a bit, but he was like, I don't like this. And I'm like, yeah, I don't care. Well, yeah, because you made him wear the keytar tie. Yeah, but...
Starting point is 01:27:01 And a big blazer with big shoulders. Yeah, he starts to wear that. That was a non-negotiable. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're like, you will be an 80s keytar guy. He's like, dad, duh. But you'll probably come around to it again at some point. You know, the musical instruments are good.
Starting point is 01:27:15 We both played a musical instrument to this very day. That's right. The podcast microphone. That's right. Master out of Christ. Absolutely. Mason, what do you have in terms of letters? This is an email. I'm sick of it.
Starting point is 01:27:30 From the Disney feeling. What? I don't know. Hey guys, with D23 announcing the Bluey movie, I think it's time to ask you the most important question, do you feel personally responsible for unleashing this Aussie dog virus across the globe? But really, is Blue Ears big over there? Yes. Like here?
Starting point is 01:27:44 Yeah, it's huge. It's even loved by grown adults here in the US. Yeah, same. Is that true, though? Absolutely. But is that not, is that, but do parents, like, do people see it? Parents know it. Yeah, parents know it, but to like, people.
Starting point is 01:27:56 Do adults watch Bluey independently if they don't have kids? Independently, probably not, no. Yeah, right. Yeah. But people like Blue over here. Which is interesting because Australia has both tall poppy syndrome and cultural cringe. Yes.
Starting point is 01:28:08 Which is where we hate everything we produce. And if anybody from Australia gets too famous, we hate them and we have to knock them down a peg or two. That's right. Which is tough, especially if it's like a Jacob Alorty, because he's so tall. He's so tall. What are you going to knock him down with?
Starting point is 01:28:21 You knock him down a peg or two. He's still tall than most men. That's right. You know, what are you? We're going to have to steam a peg or two. stormroar him. So, steamroll him,
Starting point is 01:28:28 judge doom style. But then it would be even taller and flatter. Right? Yeah. Yeah, but I think there's an earnestness to Bluey, and I'm sure it will turn at some point. But yeah,
Starting point is 01:28:37 and there's also, you know what, it's, there's not, there is a finite amount of Bluey as well. Yeah. So it's not just, you know,
Starting point is 01:28:44 there's like a billion episodes of Pepper Pig and it's just like, oh, I've got to go to the market or whatever. Yeah. There's an earnestness and a heart to Bluey, and there's also Bluey, a lot of the situations are just like real parenting
Starting point is 01:28:53 and kid scenarios. That's true. And you can watch it as a kid, but also you can be like, oh, this is an episode where the parents are clearly hung over, even though they're not saying that they're hung over. Right. Yeah, it's great. It's a very good show.
Starting point is 01:29:05 Yeah. But no, it's, it is huge here. And we got it first. Yeah. Uh, yeah. And I don't know. Pioneering. I know America did invent the Daily Wire version of that,
Starting point is 01:29:16 which is about chinchillas or something. Oh, is there? Yeah, it's terrible apparently. Wow. But kids are learning? Yeah, but it's, yeah. But it's, you know, are they? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:25 Are they learning the anti-woke mind virus? Maybe. I don't know. I know it doesn't go that hard. Because Blue is not, like, Blue is just like, be nice to your family, right? That's the... They're not... They're not...
Starting point is 01:29:37 It's a bunch of stuff. They're not indoctrinating people beyond, like, be nice and stuff. So it's called, and the daily way it's called Chip Chiller. I know. It's not... No, Rob Schneider is in it. He plays a character called Chum Chum Chiller. Okay, so he'd be the dad.
Starting point is 01:29:52 I don't know if he is. The divorce dad. But this is the arts. style. Oh, I see what they've done, yep. It's bluey. It is bluey, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:59 Okay, that's interesting. That's interesting they've done that. Apparently it's terrible. But of course it is. Yeah. Because people like this, they cannot make art. Yeah, I mean, you know, they're not capable.
Starting point is 01:30:11 Conservatives can make art. I'm not, that's not what I'm saying, these people specifically cannot make art. Exactly. Clint Eastwood can make art. Yeah. Remember that time he talked of that chair? That's art.
Starting point is 01:30:20 That's art. That's performance and art. That's performance art. But like, genuinely he can do that. Yeah. Also, Kelsey Grammer made praise you for years. That's right. And he's beast.
Starting point is 01:30:29 But also, like, Clint Eastwood is from an era where, like, it's not just, he's not a recently anti-woke guy. No, that's true. He's just a million years old. He's from a different era. So there's that element of, as well. And he grew up, like, in the television and film industry and moved into directing. So it's like he's been refining his craft for several hundred years.
Starting point is 01:30:47 Exactly. That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Billionaire-backed fucking blue-in-knocked for nobody. I would love to see the numbers for the daily wire. Bad. In terms of like throwing money at stuff. Oh, the billions of dollars, yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:00 Yeah, just like the, just, I would love to be in a meeting where they have to be like, here's your return on your investment, nothing. There's no, well, they, because they. But I guess they're not in it for the money. They're not. It's about changing culture and like getting, because if you own pop culture. Yeah. Because that's one thing that they can't have.
Starting point is 01:31:17 Yeah. Seemingly now. Currently. Currently. That will change. Currently. And they don't like that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:23 that it's like people think you're dorks. Yeah. And your ideas are bad, but, you know, you can't. Yeah. It's hard to manufacture that. We say that now, but then the Chipchiller movie's going to make a billion dollars. I hope it does. Me too.
Starting point is 01:31:34 Me too. Me too. God, dark days, man. Yeah. Anyway, sorry. Well, I blew it. That was your question, I shoot. Yes.
Starting point is 01:31:42 I got one from Alex who says, what's the closest thing you have to mutant power? The mutant power. For example, I have a superhuman metabolism where I can eat anything and it passes through me. Undigested? I mean, we all have that. We could eat anything that passes through us. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The downside is I have to eat a lot.
Starting point is 01:31:57 Oh. Do you have a superpower, Mason? My superpower is that I will always... You shoot lasers. There's the laser thing. Yeah. But I will... You don't even use that that much.
Starting point is 01:32:06 No, I will always wake up like three minutes before my alarm. Whoa, really? Like, I'll wake up just in... It doesn't matter, because my alarm is different every day, pretty much. Yeah. But my, I will wake up in that window where there's not enough time to go back to sleep. Yeah. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:32:22 That's good. Because if you wait, sometimes, like, you know, some people wake up an hour before they're alarm, and they're like, oh, time to go back to bed. But I'll wake up at like 827. I would rather do that than, I don't like waking up and then going, oh, there's only 40 minutes. I don't like that. Oh, 40 minutes is heaps of time. No, I don't like it.
Starting point is 01:32:40 That's interesting. I like it. If I do wake up in the middle of night. I'm also, I must always like, like, I'll wake up and I go and three, two, one, and the alarm will go. Damn. Must be cool. And then you shoot your lasers? Then I shoot lasers.
Starting point is 01:32:53 I'm like, it's laser time. Boom, Boom. Boom. Yeah, man. You're shooting lasers in the morning. That's what I'm saying. Best part of the day.
Starting point is 01:33:02 Breakfast lasers, you say. Best part of the day, you know? Yeah. You know, eating my cereal. Shooting a bird out of a tree with a laser. You know? Just sitting on the deck, you know, just drinking and lasers. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:15 Nice little coffee shooting a laser. Shooting a laser? You know? Yeah. Killing a possum. Killing a possum. Yeah, man. Shouldn't even be out.
Starting point is 01:33:21 It's too early. Yeah. Right. Yeah. I've probably talking about this before, but I can hold a habit like forever. You can hold a what? Habit. Okay.
Starting point is 01:33:31 Is that a power? Yeah, no, I think, I mean like my consistency is my way. Oh, I see what's. Do you mean good habits? It can be bad, but most of the time I can harness it for good. And that's the reason I think this part, one of the reasons why this show has worked is because we've been able to do it like, this happens every week no matter what. But I'm like that with like everything.
Starting point is 01:33:49 Yeah. So like I'm making school lunches like clockwork. work. I make my own. Oh, every day. Every day. Oh, father of the year. No, I just be like, I'm, I'm ready. In the morning, like, I know what food there is in the fridge. The lunchboxes are clean and packed and ready to go. Yeah, I've seen you do that. Yeah, I've had my breakfast oats, which I've made for the week ready. So I don't, but part of the reason why I do that as well is so it frees up my brain. So I don't have to think about it. Yeah. So I can do whatever else I need to do. So that's probably, also I don't, I think this is a lot of people. Like, I don't care if people don't like me.
Starting point is 01:34:22 No, not that. That's the wrong way to put it. I'm, I don't know. I'm not, I'm not that I'm like, I'm an asshole to people, but like, if someone doesn't like me or not, like, I don't care. And I don't think about it. So, Professor X is interviewing you and he's like, and what's your power? You're like, I don't care what people think of it. Well, I don't think you're a suitable fit for the X-Men. Well, I don't care, old man. You old goats. I'll stop my own team. Yeah, I'll stop. I got Mason, he gets up before his alarm and lasers. I'm loaded. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:50 I don't know. I don't want this to sound like, oh, I don't even care what people think. Because I do care. But it's just like, it doesn't affect, like you can't control what people think of you. Yeah. You know? So true. Yeah. So true.
Starting point is 01:35:02 Some Leon. Oh, I also shoot lasers. Oh, okay. Yeah. What color lasers, though? My lasers are purple lasers. Wow. Interesting.
Starting point is 01:35:10 Yeah. Okay. Because mine are green lasers. Yeah. So I think that's a clash. Or it's fun? Green and purple are good. Lex Lutters suit is green and yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:16 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I'll see if I can switch my laser colour. I don't think you can. I'll go to the doctor. I'll see if I can't my laser.
Starting point is 01:35:23 I'll hold your breath and then sugar out and see what happens. Leon asks, with your appearance on Mug and James mentioned he'd like to do something like Dropouts Game Changer, what other shows of the current would seem like a fun experience for you? I'm talking everything from Hot Ones or Mythical Kitchen to the late, late show with James Corden or the Joe Rogan experience. Should have saved you. Dude, I would go on the Joe Rogan experience.
Starting point is 01:35:47 Right? There's no way that he would, why would he? Because he's way more famous than us and there's nothing. Well, so I think we've talked about this. I would be fascinated. I think there would be a point where you could have gone on hot ones. Or maybe us as a duo. No, but this is like many seasons ago.
Starting point is 01:36:01 Like 10 years ago. Because there was a moment where there was like YouTube people would be on there. Bigger than us though. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But just as what would be fun to do. Hot ones would be fun. I would like to do hot ones.
Starting point is 01:36:12 Even though it would be atrocious. I think, but I don't know if. I'm doing Crafternoon. You are not. I'm doing that's true. I would like to experience. See, that's the thing, because I would like to experience the hot ones range of sources. Yeah. We could have experience them privately. Yeah, but see, that's the thing that's not as much fun. You want to be filmed vomiting. I wouldn't be vomiting. How are you with hot sources? You're pretty good, right? Yeah, I'm good with it,
Starting point is 01:36:35 but I think my issue would be that it would just... Your laces. The laces, but also I think it would be, they would go straight through me. Yeah. Well, that does everybody. Do you mean immediately? I mean immediately. Like within a couple. couple of minutes. Are you Alex who everything passes through him immediately? Yeah, maybe. Yeah. But it would just be like, I wouldn't, I'd be, you know, some celebrities they have. A couple of minutes. What are you just like a tube? Not the whole thing, but just the source elements. Oh my God. That's awful. Yeah. But or. It's, it's not even that it would, look, I don't know if it's that it would go through. It's just it starts a reaction. Yeah. And now, like, some people drink the coffee in the morning and it starts a reaction. Yeah. I, and you know how like celebrities that have a writer of like backstage and either whatever. I'd have to be like, like, There needs to be a bathroom within 30 seconds of the location. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:22 And I need a stall reserved for me because I don't want anybody. I don't want to run. I need to at any moment I have to run off screen and be like go to there. And I don't want anybody there bothering me that I have to laser to get out of the. Could you get through the wings? Do you think before that happened or would you have to stop midwings? Well, see, I don't know because I've never, I've never had those specific wings. I would have a bad time, but it would be a few hours later.
Starting point is 01:37:42 Yeah. I think I could get home. Yeah. Yeah. But there people talk about how. it's just horrendous afterwards. Absolutely. They're the worst day.
Starting point is 01:37:50 But I think last meals, mythical kitchen's last meals. Yeah, sure, yeah. Because it's just, he is, pick all your favorite foods. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:00 I mean, sure, you have to talk about death a lot. Oh, yuck. Yeah. I don't know. Would I actually go on the Joe Rogan experience?
Starting point is 01:38:08 Again, not that that would ever happen, he would ever ask. I don't know if I would actually. If we're offered, we should go on the Joe Rogan experience. Yeah, that's definitely going to happen. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:15 I mean, I haven't talked about this one. but there have been some right wing outlets, not recently, that have asked us to do stuff before. And I was like, this was like 2017. I wonder what the, like, when you go,
Starting point is 01:38:27 what is the bump you get from being on the Joe Rogan? It's less than it used to be, definitely. Right. But is it still something? Well, because it's all like fucking Peter Thiel and. Yeah, but I think if we just went on and we're like, we talk about movies and Spider-Man and whatever.
Starting point is 01:38:41 Like, there would be some people would jump over. You know what? Also, I don't want that. I don't want those people. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like people who, you know, obsessed with Joe. Like, Joe, I don't want, that would be a bad bum.
Starting point is 01:38:54 You know, Leon says this question isn't strictly about which of these shows would you do it to have invited, but more, where do you think you'd have a good time doing the show? Yeah, at fair point. I kind of think I'd have a good time on the show. He probably would have a good time. Because he just kind of. He's probably a cool hang. Yeah, he's probably, good hang with Amy Pol.
Starting point is 01:39:09 That'd be a fun one. That'd be a fun one. Again, it's one of those things where, like, she's, it would be more interesting for us to talk to her than not. Because also the thing about good hang is they ask, she asks of the guests a lot of questions about themselves and they talk about themselves. But I would, I'd be, I would love to go on a lot of those shows and do the episode where you turn it around on the host. Because I would just love to ask her about like being Andy Richter's sister on late night with Conan O'Brien or whatever. Or the upright Citizens Brigade sketch show she did like the TV show. You could also ask about like Parks and Rec as well, couldn't you?
Starting point is 01:39:42 I don't want to do that. I want to ask her about when she was Colby on the upright Citizens Brigade. sketch show. Funny show. I guess you could do that. Because it's interesting, James, because the UCB is an improv show, but the live show is,
Starting point is 01:39:54 but the sketch show is like pre-written sketches. So like, where did the, where was the, where did the turnaround happen, James? I don't know, actually. Where did the, that's something you could ask Amy Polo.
Starting point is 01:40:02 That's what I'm saying. I assume at some point she went to the, I assume they pitched it to a TV network and they were like, okay, but it's improv. What if it wasn't improv? And they went, I guess it's a sketch show now. Because improv is unpredictable. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:40:15 Improvedictable. Listen, Jonathan. No. No. I won't be having that. I'm shutting that down. Jonathan said, is there any particular reason you and Mason stop doing funny ad reads? Is it just easier to record alone?
Starting point is 01:40:25 Are you doing less ads? Or do the ad companies come after you for riffing too much? Well, it used to be because Claire's to get the ads. Yes. Because there wasn't really an industry in the same way that there is now. And then we went through a few different places, but now this is boring. We got to ACAST. Yes.
Starting point is 01:40:39 And they send the ad copies. Yeah, right. And honestly, it's just, and they also, you might not hear. an ad because they'll pay for 20,000 impressions. Right. And they'll, or whatever they call, I don't know what they fucking call them. And then it'll go out exactly that many times in a particular region and then they'll pull it.
Starting point is 01:40:57 Yeah, right. So, which is why sometimes the time codes don't line up with the thing. Yeah, right. Drop an ad in it. Sometimes the ads that they've re-recorded, but often there'll be ones that I'll do. And the reason I don't, I just record them by myself is because they don't, they should pay more if they're going to do that. They want us to do it together.
Starting point is 01:41:13 They want us to riff. But a lot of the time, yeah, it's. It's just a script that it's like, you know, I like this. I like this. And also it's like, I think a lot of the time you would get them and it's like, well, I got to wait until you come around. Can you record this for tomorrow? And it's like, well, I'm not going to be there.
Starting point is 01:41:24 Yeah, exactly. You're not going to drag me over here to be like, that's right, James. Yeah. And often. We do love the mining industry. It happens every now and then. Like someone will be like, they know who we are. And we'll be like, oh, no, can you do one with you two together?
Starting point is 01:41:37 Uh-huh. And then, like, yeah, for sure. But other than that. Yeah, but other than that. So that's basically why. Yeah, so it's just It is what it is Yeah
Starting point is 01:41:48 And again, I would do it It's just not the way it's done anymore At the moment What else, Mason? This is from David With the announcement about Kevin Smith's Marvel Star Wars crossover Have you guys considered reading
Starting point is 01:41:59 His other recent crossover Jay's of Future Past In which Jay and Silent Bob Meet the Marvel characters It's uniquely bad And this is coming from a pretty hardcore K Smith fan Well, it's interesting because
Starting point is 01:42:11 We didn't I mean we did He has an interesting comics here He's got an interesting comic history because he produced, he wrote one of the Daredevil comics, which is very good. Yeah. Guardian Devil, which I think is the one with the death of Karen Page. Yes, I think you are correct. Which is, I remember being very good.
Starting point is 01:42:28 I enjoyed that a lot. But he's also produced, I think, maybe two of the worst Batman stories ever written. That's a big goal. It is, isn't it? Didn't finish, did it? Oh, I don't know. I certainly stopped reading them. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:42:42 But they were like in a, in a sequence together. So, you know. The widening. The widening Gaia and then something else. I can't remember what the other one was called. But it's a mixed bag, isn't it? Yeah, totally.
Starting point is 01:42:54 We talked extensively maybe a week ago or two weeks ago about the Marvel Star Wars crossover. Yeah, so I'm just looking at the Widening guy. And I think there's going to be a lot of compound characters or something. He's going to be. Yeah. Like, they're going to do Darth later. I think they're going to do some mashup characters or something. I think there was a reveal like somebody, somebody leaked something or whatever.
Starting point is 01:43:12 Oh, yeah. this is in the wine guy of Jaya was, there's a moment where he says that he pissed his pants, Batman pissed his pants. Remember that bit where he... Oh, in Batman, Year 1. In Batman, he blows a hole. People would have seen this,
Starting point is 01:43:24 but he blows a hole in the side of a mafia person's house when they're having dinner. And then he walks in and he does a big threat. Yeah. But he was too close to the explosion and he pissed his pants. And people are like, Batman pissed his pants. I don't have any problem with that.
Starting point is 01:43:39 Yeah, yeah. But I have read that and I don't remember liking it. No. I don't remember much about. at it, but I remember being like, I don't know if I like this. Yeah. Also, upon further reflection, I'm pretty sure that the Marvel thing is going to be, it's going to be the Death Star Attacks Earth. Is that, is that? Oh my God. Wouldn't that be incredible? Isn't that the thing? I don't know. Okay. And then the Star Wars characters are there.
Starting point is 01:43:57 And they go, we'll stop this. We're Star Wars. Yeah. I'm going to go on Kenobi. Exactly. I'm Yel McGreg. Not to cover old ground. I know there's a video release. It's fine. It's a video release and it's a great video. It's a great time. We had a great fun. We had a great fun. Yeah. But were you, so what, Kevin Smith, because he did a green arrow. He did do a green hour. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:44:15 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. He's a nice man doing nice things. He's really nice. Yeah. I like that he's alive.
Starting point is 01:44:22 I like that also. I know I keep saying that, but I genuinely believe that. And I think he is, I think he does put good into the world. He opened it. He opened a door for independent film. Totally did. For a while. Then they closed it.
Starting point is 01:44:32 And they closed that door. But he did open it. He did open it right up. Yeah. Yeah. As far as we know, he's never done anything really crook. Correct. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:44:40 All right. Are we got another letter or do I have another letter? You can have another letter. Andrew says currently in the US Netflix has a show called Alone Australia. You know a show alone where they go alone? I put him in the wilderness alone. I can't imagine such a concept.
Starting point is 01:44:52 And they're like, I can't even survive alone. Okay. Which is a survival contest where the last person wins money. Between you and Mason, who could survive longer alone in the wild and wild. Yeah, but I don't think our survival skills are that different. Like, I don't think I'm that far. Like compared to one of these people, I'm basically a baby. Also, you have more responsibilities outside of this.
Starting point is 01:45:15 So I think potentially you would be like... I'd have to come home. Yeah. Yeah. That's something we watched. After recording the other day, we watched a Mr. Beast video. After we treat ourselves. Often we treat ourselves to a little Mr. Beast video.
Starting point is 01:45:29 And the premise was survived. They made a supermarket and they're like, whoever stays the longest in the... I think it was called a Feastable Market, Beast's Market. That's right. Square Presents. a feastable supermarket. And whoever stays the longest in the supermarket wins a big money or whatever. They win Mr. Beast.
Starting point is 01:45:49 They win Mr. Beast. I don't know what everybody else takes from it. But I'm like what a, what a. So sad. What a kind of a, what would you call it? It's a like a, the idea of like society. Like the, what are we talking about? Do you mean like a collapse of society?
Starting point is 01:46:06 Yeah. Like it represents this thing of like because so many people in this, you see, they're interviewing all the people. who are gone into the supermarket, and there are people who are like, I quit my job. Yeah. I'll quit my job.
Starting point is 01:46:16 I quit my job to be in a, in, what's the word I'm looking for? Not a detriment to society. It's a, it's, uh, it is a detriment. Exploitive. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:46:26 but it's like a, it's like a, it's like a running man future. Yeah, it's exactly like that where it's like people are quitting their job and like, yeah, but also like a lot of people would quit their job and were there for days and miss their families and then they were just going,
Starting point is 01:46:36 I got to go home. Yeah. And they don't get anything. No. I mean, the, the, What I think as well is that they have more finely tuned the idea of like the incentive to stick around.
Starting point is 01:46:49 Because in this one it was like, well, you win $250,000 if you stay around. But often in videos we've seen in the past, they're like, people will be in the store for three days and they'd be like, we'll give you $10,000 to leave. So you just leave. Yeah, but this is months. This was months. This was months. They didn't offer anything for months. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:47:05 And maybe they do. Maybe they pay your wages or whatever. I don't know exactly. Oh, and then at the end, it's a condemnation of society. The fact that the people are just like, you know, this will probably be worth it for me if I quit my job. It's tough out there. And it ended with there with like three or four people left and the stores are wreck. And they'd all turn on each other, Lord of the Flyer Stiles.
Starting point is 01:47:26 And then Mr. Beas was like, okay, I'm going to restock this supermarket. And you can all win $250,000 or whatever it is each. If you live in the supermarket. And consume everything over a year. And then they're like, Edward chicken back in a year. Yeah. Wow. That's fucking God awful.
Starting point is 01:47:43 Like you sink a year plus more because they're already in there six months or whatever it was. For this. Yeah. Like that's critical time in not all of them, but I know some of them have kids. Yeah. And I just, God, so much. Fuck, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:00 Sad. Yeah. Yeah. But it's sad that someone is like, because nobody wants to do that. No. It's not fun. And it's like, but it's like, well, this is my shot at money and fun. to get out of like the crushing day to day of my life.
Starting point is 01:48:14 Some of them are clearly like, this is just money. This is not a fame thing. There's like one guy in particular is like, he's not going to go on to be a TikTok celebrity or whatever. No, that's right. Exactly. Yeah. God.
Starting point is 01:48:26 So we wouldn't go on Mr. Beast. No, we might. Well, we might. I mean, again, the key is... You couldn't get me. Like, I know, and I'm in the position where I wouldn't have to. Yeah. But I just, I feel my dignity would just like kick in my leave, I think.
Starting point is 01:48:39 Or just be like the reality. of the situation and there must be other opportunities outside of this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But if I had no kids and I was like 20, I could probably do it. Yeah. But I am 20 and I have so many kids. Also, I think I'd be like, at like an hour in, I'd just be, and there's also, you don't, there are people who have the drive that I don't.
Starting point is 01:48:58 And, you know, the ones where it's like, keep your hand on the car the longest and you're in the car or whatever. It's like, I know there are people who would do that for days and I don't tap out now. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, to answer your question about a loan. Yeah, I guess our survival skills would be roughly the same, but you'd leave for the kids.
Starting point is 01:49:16 And I'd be like, also, if it's... Also, you were alone, you don't have any food. So you're foraging and that. And I do not have those... I did a poison mushroom. Yeah, it's straight away on purpose. On purpose, exactly. That's right.
Starting point is 01:49:27 I'd be like, hey, everyone, check this out. Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum. What color am I turning? Green, not good. Not good. That's going to clash with my lasers. I mean, because also, if people even do have the survival skills to survive it, You are alone.
Starting point is 01:49:41 You are isolated. I like that part. No, that does things to your brain. But you don't have anything. I love that. You don't have a book or a phone or... Do I have a cool leather jacket? I think you have a Game Boy, original Game Boy.
Starting point is 01:49:53 In the dark? In the daytime. Do I have one of those clip over light things? Then I'm out. I'm out, man. That battery would last forever though. That would for days. All right.
Starting point is 01:50:04 Is that it? Jason asks, or Jason says rather, I'm sick of Easter egg videos. I recently watched lanterns and loved it, but the Easter egg videos about it are sad. Did you catch the hero's Green Lantern and there was a Green Lantern in Superman? Easter Egg. Did you know Hal Jordan is the name of Hal Jordan in the comics? Easter Egg.
Starting point is 01:50:20 And you probably missed this Easter Egg, James, but there is not just a Green Lantern. There's a Green Lantern core. Easter Egg. Do Easter Egg videos annoy you too? I mean, I don't watch Easter Egg videos. Yeah, I don't watch it either. I don't mind. Even though I did used to do them.
Starting point is 01:50:33 I'm not interested, I guess, anymore. I suspect if I was watching something else and my algorithm flipped over to an an Easterer video about lanterns. I probably would watch it because I'm just like, well, I like lanterns. Yeah. And they'll show little scenes
Starting point is 01:50:46 from the episode or whatever. And I might be like, oh, that's an interesting one. I hadn't thought about that. But I'm not going out of my way to watch history videos. I also like the things, you know,
Starting point is 01:50:56 I don't know everything about something going into it. Yeah. I don't need all the theories anymore. Because also like... Because we make the theories. We make it happen. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:51:05 We also make the end of the show happen. That's so true, isn't it? It's not an accident, Mason. The end of the show is real. It's real and it's coming at you. And if you're still midway through your public transport journey or your car journey home from work, for example, you better find something else quick.
Starting point is 01:51:22 Dude, that's a long-ass commute. Yeah, long-ass commute. Unless you skip the lantern section. Maybe for spoiler purposes. Maybe for spoiler purposes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe you're playing it out loud on speakers. You wouldn't have heard us do all the Easter eggs, though.
