Starting point is 00:00:02 Welcome back everybody to another episode of the weekly planet where we talk movies and comics and TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday. Is that Nick Mason? Yes, it is. Good. Thanks, man. It is good.
Starting point is 00:00:14 It's not great. But the show doesn't happen without you. I know. I know. And this is the best I can do. I can only be me. Yeah. You know?
Starting point is 00:00:22 That's true. Or I could reinvent myself. That's actually a good point. You probably do for a reinvention. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. Yeah. I'm trying to think like, I guess, better.
Starting point is 00:00:31 If I had to give any points I'll stop you there That's off the table Okay It's off the table step one We're doing a decline We're doing a downer I think A real
Starting point is 00:00:39 Interesting Yeah And the problem is See you know how there's a lot Going on here In the sort of the head region Sure The problem is that's not great
Starting point is 00:00:47 Too many eyes Too many eyes What you learn though Rapidly is if you take any of it away Much worse Oh dear You know Oh no
Starting point is 00:00:55 You like this beard's a bit much But if I take it off You don't want that What if it was just the beard, though. What if you took everything but? That's great. It'd be interesting, I think. Yeah, that's right. Are we going down to Skellington or are we going down to nothing? Well, I think just like a smooth skin. Like the mullie grubs. Like the mullie grubs. Like the mull, yeah. Like that monstrous lady from the mulligrubs.
Starting point is 00:01:15 There's our local reference for the episode. My goodness. I hope there's not another one, Mason, because it doesn't get any better than the mullie grubs. Do you know it's a big week? I do know it's a big week. For a few things, but first, but we got the passing of three legends, Mason, which is unfortunate. That happened. Yeah, it is. That happened. Any of these one would be terrible, but all three, yuck. Extra terrible. Triple terrible. But that's not the only thing going on, Mason.
Starting point is 00:01:39 We've also got Hot Hollywood News. Hell yeah. That makes everything better. Exactly. It doesn't matter who you are. That makes you feel good. It might. You could be someone currently grieving.
Starting point is 00:01:53 That's fine because of Hot Hollywood News. Hot Hollywood News. It makes you feel good. We're going to talk about Man of Tomorrow, the next Superman movie, rapping film. We're going to talk about who's going to direct the next Batman? movie, Mason. It could be me.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Rebrand. Rebrand Nick Mason. Bearing your mind, it will be way worse than all of the others because I am on that predicted downward slide. But maybe you were an incredible director, like one of the best. I'll stop you there or I wasn't. Yeah, but you don't know that because you've never done that. And then you still make a pretty like solid Batman movie.
Starting point is 00:02:19 That's true. So, you know. I could surround myself with sycophants. You could. How do you feel about a Bam Bam Rubble sequel movie to the Flintstones live action? Not my money, all for it. Okay. How do you feel about casting of the new Robocop in the Robocop TV series?
Starting point is 00:02:37 Hell yeah. How do you feel about the return of Cole Trickle? Hell yeah. We'll get to that. And we're also going to talk about because Ridley Scott's like, I'm getting back in the Alien game. I see what you're doing and I want to do that now. I'm in the media cycle currently.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Let's say some insane things. Let's release my movie and have people go, that's pretty good movie. And then let's say some things that makes it. really hard to like you, Ridley Scott. Is that what people are saying about the dog stars,
Starting point is 00:03:06 the movie we're talking about this week? May I think people are saying a variety of different things. I would say it's mostly negative, but that might not necessarily be my opinion, Mason. Let's start here. Time codes below Rob Collings, who edits this. He does the time codes, doesn't it?
Starting point is 00:03:19 And he enters them into a spreadsheet? He really does. He really does. Yeah, and then he graphs them. Sometimes people will be like, what's the episode where they briefly covered the mullie grubs? And he'll find it, because he's put mullie grubs into his
Starting point is 00:03:31 spreadsheet. He's done that already for you. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to start here. We've got three people to talk about who passed away last week. We've got Dolly Parton at age 80 who had a brief battle with cancer. I mean, this is the, this, this hit people really hard. Absolutely. All all walks of life, all, all fandoms, everybody. One of the rare celebrities that everybody is on board with, which is kind of impossible. It's, because it's also one of those things where like, when you try to be like a celebrity or an entertainer for all, people don't. like that either. Correct.
Starting point is 00:04:02 You know, it's like, well, you've spread yourself too thin and yuck. But just kind of the way she, I guess, laid with like acceptance and charity and compassion, like that kind of overtook everything and everybody. And on top of that also, of course, she was, she was an amazing actor, nine to five, Mason, ever heard of it. A bit of a fun workplace comedy. And speaking of. With some kidnapping in it.
Starting point is 00:04:23 That's undeniable. And there's also, I mean, obviously, she was an incredible musician. Yeah. Lindsay Alice had a video, I don't know if you saw this one, about she made it before the passing of Dolly Parton, but she released it. It might actually be taken down one now because it's on the open for a brief window. But she talks about how Dolly Parton at one point said she'd written like 3,000 songs. That's crazy. And for herself and other artists and all sorts.
Starting point is 00:04:47 This is a tweet from Wensler, Dolly Parton writing, I will always love you and Jolene in the same day's mind blowing. It'd be like if Da Vinci finished the Mona Lisa and then turned around in the same day and wrote Jolene. He could never Yeah So also this is Because I on the R slash no stupid questions Yeah On Reddit
Starting point is 00:05:06 On Reddit Someone asked Well why does everybody love Dolly Parton And somebody's put her in one of the responses here She's the founder of Dollywood Which is the amusement park It helped turn her hometown Of Seaverville
Starting point is 00:05:16 From a small extremely poor town To a built up city With a large tourism economy She pays a living wage to employees Covers full tuition books and fees For employees who want to attend college She founded the Dollywood Foundation And other scholarly efforts
Starting point is 00:05:27 to improve high school graduation rates. She runs a large number of other, she ran a large number of other charity projects, including an animal sanctuary. Dolly Parton's imagination library that sends free books to children. She donated a huge amount of money to disaster relief in children's hospital.
Starting point is 00:05:41 That's why the East Tennessee Children's Hospital is now the Dolly Parton Children's Hospital. Donations for children's medical research, donations to all sorts of charities. Kind, easy to work with coal under pressure and fair. Yep. Yeah, so there you go. Could have been a billionaire.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Yeah. Gave a lot of it away. Her husband passed away a couple of years ago. Who famously was never in the limelight. Yeah. And also, like, her outside of when she wanted to be publicly seen, you didn't, we don't, there's probably photos of her to exist, but she was always, you know, just this larger than life presence.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Yeah, just, I mean, do you think there's room in the world for a larger than life premise? Premise. Premise. No. I think this was the last one. Oh, so I can't. And it's full, obviously. Okay, so if I'm looking to rebrand.
Starting point is 00:06:26 You didn't even have, like, a large, too. TikTok following, like Dolly Barton probably did and still does. Probably, yeah. That's all I'm saying. I know there's a musical in the works as well about her life, which, I mean, she's got, I mean, also, even if you're not a fan, you definitely hear like a bunch of her songs and be like, oh, no, I know that. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:06:45 And of course, you mentioned, I will always love you. That, like, topped the charts twice with her and then for the movie The Bodyguard, where Whitney Houston did it. So, yeah, again, huge loss. There's just not another person like her. Yeah, one of a kind, except for Nick Mason, because you are going to... I'm going to rebrand as Dolly Park. Oh, right, you can do it.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Thank you, man. Let's do this one, Mason, as well. Tim Curry has passed away, also at age 80. He's had multiple health issues over the past decade or so. He had a stroke in 2012, which affected his, like, I was going to say work, everything, everything about him greatly. People would know him from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. People would know him from a home alone to Mason.
Starting point is 00:07:26 That's right. I know a lot of people, including me, really enjoy him as Long John Silver and Muppet Treasure Island. Clue. He's great in Congo, a movie that we looked at not that long ago. He's in Hunt for Red October. Do you enjoy the show Earth 2 Mason? Because I know I did in the 90s. Not for me, but I could get it.
Starting point is 00:07:43 I guess I could get back into it. He's also his voice work. So Fern Gully, it was Sir Nigel Thornbury in the Wild Thornbury's. He was also Chancellor Palpatine in Star Wars for his few series. He was also the original voice of the Joker before Mark Hamill took it on. Yeah. Yeah, just like an amazing body of work. Yep.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Oh, it. He's Pennywise. The clown is, yeah. Which scared every child in the 90s and to this very day. I saw a clip of that pop on my feet the other day. It's the one where it's two people making out, one of them turns out to be a clown or whatever. And it's like, geez, Louise. This is scary stuff, Mason.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Yeah. Even though, you know, it's not that scary now because I'm an adult. But it was scary stuff. Also, Premier Chudenko in Command and Conquer Red Alert 3. A bunch of famous line. Well, he looks like he's just having the time of his life and about to break. Yeah, the whole time, yeah. Really great stuff.
Starting point is 00:08:37 No, again, there's no word officially on his passing, but as we said, multiple health issues, which contributed. Yeah. And then, of course, we've got Peter Cullen. Passed away at age 85. We don't know of what at this point. Again, prolific voice actor. Most famously known for Optimus Prime. I mean, that...
Starting point is 00:08:58 Well, in animation, in video games, in the Michael Bay movies. Absolutely. I love that he was able to come back. Like, he was so iconic to that voice that when they eventually did the live action, it was like... Yeah, there was no other choice. You get Peter Cullen. Yeah. Like, every other person who was voiced Optimus Prime is measured against that.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Absolutely. And he is the best, like by far. It was also E. E.O. in the Winnie of the Pooh movies. He's Monterey Jack in Chippendale Rescue Rangers. He was the voice He was the first voice of Carr in Knight Rider Which is the evil version of kids
Starting point is 00:09:29 I think he came back for the reboot I saw as well Okay yeah He was the voice of King Kong from 1976 He did animal stuff He was the voice of the predator Yeah And he's in Invincible as well right He is his Thaddeus
Starting point is 00:09:42 From Invincible So yeah And also like everybody else here Apparently just incredibly kind Would spend time with fans He loved hearing people's stories I know he's I read one particular story
Starting point is 00:09:53 about somebody talked about how because their father wasn't so great that seeing Optimus Prime was like an example of that. I know his brother told him to go into the, I can't remember the exact words, but it was like there was a kindness to his strength. Absolutely, yeah. Because Optimus Prime, I mean, they changed it in the live action movies, but there is like a fairness and kindness and strength of that character who always tries to see the best in everybody except Megatron.
Starting point is 00:10:16 But you know, he's had enough chances. Yeah, that's true. I think so as well. So, damn, Peter Cullen, man. Well, at least they can AI recreate all of these people. That's right. He was also Pinscher Tombstone and Stones
Starting point is 00:10:27 in GoBot's Battle of the Rock Lords. Oh, he was go botting. Yes. Yeah, he did a bunch of 80s cartoons. Yeah, he was a G.I. Joe voices as well, I think. Yeah. Well, there it is. And he looked like Don Draper with a mustache.
Starting point is 00:10:38 That's true. There's nothing wrong with that. That's true. God. There you go. Well. Well. Mason. Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:45 In other news. In hopefully happier news. Man of Tomorrow has wrapped filming the next finally movie well not the next the next one's Clayface the next one
Starting point is 00:10:53 after that is Man of Tomorrow Now this is by the Hot Mike podcast Now we heard this a few years ago But apparently Andy Machetti
Starting point is 00:10:59 who was originally on to direct He's still not directing and wasn't as of two years ago He directed the Flash He's also been doing The It Welcome to Dairy series
Starting point is 00:11:08 He did the recent movies Makes sense that he wouldn't be doing it if he's just He's just doing it stuff All the time You know those shows You're talking about Batman
Starting point is 00:11:16 The Brave of the Walt Yeah sorry The next Batman Not the Batman and part two. This is the DCU version of Batman. It's not Robert Pattinson. As yet to be cast.
Starting point is 00:11:25 As far as we know. As far as we know. Maybe that's the twist. A lot of people are speculating that perhaps it will be, just be Pattinson. Well, speaking of Mason. Yes. So these are two things. So we're talking about Superman and we're talking about Batman.
Starting point is 00:11:36 Two different things. Just like just in case you thought they were the same character. They're not. They're very different. Hot Mike may, he might confabulate the two things because he's so hot he can get away with this. For sure, man. But it's that pretty privilege that we all have in this room. That's right.
Starting point is 00:11:50 So the speculation is, and we saw a similar thing at that last Superman movie, that James Gunn is, well, apparently considering coming in to direct this. Wow. Which would make sense. I think it's, I mean, he could probably do a pretty good job, it would seem. And I'm sure he has a very specific vision for Batman in his universe. He would, yeah. People have said this, Mason, and maybe you disagree or agree.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Go on. Do you think James Gunn is taking on too much? Yes. Being the head of the DC. Even though Peter Safran is doing it with him, he's doing the producer. producing side of things. Do you think creatively where if you're directing like a movie a year and TV, multiple TV shows and whatever, is it too much?
Starting point is 00:12:27 Well. Can one man direct every movie in a Marvel cinematic universe but for DC? How much money is he getting? Probably a lot of money. Then I think so, yes. I think if he's not directing every movie coming out of the DCU, he's slacking off. Well, he hasn't because he didn't do Supergirl and he's not doing the upcoming Clayface. Then he's slacking off.
Starting point is 00:12:44 He's slacking off, isn't he? And I'd tell him to his face if he were here. Oh, he's not here. I can't tell him. But you would, wouldn't you? I would, but it's the moment's past. So I can't. And online, I wouldn't tell it to him, and I wouldn't tell him to him now.
Starting point is 00:12:55 I mean, because the moment's past. Yeah, exactly. Some people would say that's cowardice, but I say I would have told it. Now was the perfect time. We leave the seat open, don't we? Yeah. We leave two seats open, one for Jesus and one for James Gunn. Opposite ends of the table, because you know how they, you know what they're like.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Oh, I know what they're like. You know, they're fight. You know, but he's not here. No. No. That's a shame. Yeah. Jesus, you're slacking off because he is here. He's always with us.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Yeah. Yeah. And he is slacking off. I don't know if you've looked around, but he's slacking off, Mason. Yeah. Yeah. He's going to get that social media following that you're after. That Dolly Parton thing.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Come on, man. Come on, man. You don't think Jesus could do that? I think he probably could, yeah. He's falling asleep. But what's he selling? He's falling asleep. What's he selling Bibles?
Starting point is 00:13:37 We've got enough Bibles. Dude, there's too many. I always steal one from a hotel every time I'm there. I hope you do, Mason. Yeah. Is he, is James Gunn? Is it too much? I mean...
Starting point is 00:13:48 I mean, he's not doing it on his own, is he? There's a lot of support. No, he's not, but like, but you know, Kevin Feigy, like, overseeing an entire universe. That's true, yeah. And then, like, directing, like, most of the properties. Yeah, I guess also, like, behind this, he's not just, you know, he wouldn't just be directing the movie over the course of the year. He's also, you know, looking at script revisions for future movies and producing stuff in advance, pre-production and et cetera, et cetera. So, it probably is too much, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:14 For sure's. Yeah. Yeah. But, you know, I wouldn't surprise me, though, if he does do bad. Batman because remember he wrote Superman and then was like, but I'm not going to direct Superman. He was like, I want to direct Superman. We knew he would.
Starting point is 00:14:25 He's a liar. He said, I won't direct Superman legacy, but I will direct regular Superman. No subtitle. I found a loophole. Fandleuple. I'm not going to direct Batman the Brave and the Ball,
Starting point is 00:14:35 but I will direct Fatman and. He's taken some words out of the... Has he really? It's just called Batman and now. Batman colon and. Colin and? Yeah. I think that could be a good movie.
Starting point is 00:14:46 Yeah. Wait, remix it. Batman and colon He's got a new sidekick And it's important for men's health It is important for men's health And all health Do you support men's health?
Starting point is 00:14:58 When is it going to be Men's health for men? That's what I say. I'm always saying that to you aren't. You're always saying that And I say James, that's nonsensical Unlike the things that I say Like Batman and colon
Starting point is 00:15:07 Now that was all scoff... Put colon to the Batmobile He's talking to his colon He's a separate colon Separate from his body Correct, yes Okay cool Does he have a little cape?
Starting point is 00:15:17 Yes This doesn't need to be In the podcast It doesn't need to be in the podcast But no one needs to make this a reality No Absolutely Like a poster or whatever
Starting point is 00:15:26 No you don't have to No Is how do you represent that even Because the colon is You know It's internal It's obvious Well it's internal
Starting point is 00:15:33 It's part of it So you know It's like Something to think about Or not think about Yeah Anyway All that scurrilous rumor and clickbait
Starting point is 00:15:40 Speaking of Mason There's a new video episode Of a clickbait podcast Which is exclusive We got this covered covered where we talk about a number of things, including a terrible toy story article. And we take a trip down, a little detour down, down, facelift alley. We talk about a bunch of weird celebrity faces.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Macy puts those together. Somebody, one of those celebrities is in a big ad campaign in Melbourne currently. Yeah. A bunch of billboards and stuff, and I'm like, wouldn't put that up. Maybe it needs to add to his face. Maybe delay the photo shoot is what I'm saying. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Tell things of settled it. Should he add to his face? Like, you've added to your face. So it's perfect. Yes. There you go, man. That's at big sandwich.com, patreon.com slash Mr. Sunday movies, or the YouTube channel, there's just a bit of, just a bit of, just a bit of fun.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Just a bit of fun. I was going to say advertisement. Just a bit of advertisement. But just a bit of fun and capitalism, you know. Exactly. Just a bit of, it's a bit of fun to engage in capitalism, you know. I don't think you should believe that. This is by a deadline.
Starting point is 00:16:41 I do. Too bad. That's by a deadline. Yes. Ryan Gosling. For Goz. Yeah. his open invite producing partner
Starting point is 00:16:48 Jesse Henderson. They're in early talks for development on a live action Flintstone's feature project at Warner Brothers, who also did the Barbie movie, which of course he was canon Barbie movie. Also who keep using AI to shut down YouTube videos. So they're on the outs with us. Nothing wrong with that, Mason. I mean, I guess they are
Starting point is 00:17:06 engaging in capitalism in a funny way. I was looking at the flash, because we talked about the flash dot that long ago, they gutted the money that I would have made a considerable, like it made like a quarter of what it should have made. They really fucked me on that one. Wow.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Yeah. And I'm the multiple other ones that they do every day. Yeah. But that one in particular, seeing that one went, fuck, that one really stings. I'm going to kill someone at Warner Brothers. Let me just put it on record. Terrific. That's good. That's good.
Starting point is 00:17:33 And it's not going to be an AI algorithm. It's going to be a man. All right. That's great. That's great. I think that's good. You put that on the record. And I just want to put on the record that I can sing. Just because, you know, We're putting things on the record.
Starting point is 00:17:47 When it's being played in court, I want people to go, oh, that's a good, that's a good timber. Because you'll need a new job after this. I'll need a new job after you go to prison for those threats. And maybe a murder you did. Mason, I'm doing a homage or whatever. What is it? I'm doing a parody in a homo.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Doing a satire in Minecraft, I think, yeah, which again, is not legally, it doesn't cover you at all. It doesn't cover you at all. Luckily, Mason, this is a very serious podcast. And I think I'm going to be fine. James, I can't believe. Leave you. Acting. It's my acting. It's on the reel as well. It's on the reel as well.
Starting point is 00:18:20 I didn't know you're a triple threat, acting, singing and podcasting and tram driving. And crime. And crime. The fifth threat is I do, I actually do crime. Five crimes? Five crimes. That sounds like he's just describing five crimes, mate. The things that you bloody do. Anyway, so it's going to be a centre on a grown-up Bam Bam Rubble. Do you reckon it's going to be a sequel to the 90s Flintstones movies? Remember those? I mean, I guess. John Goodman is Fred Flintstone.
Starting point is 00:18:45 I know. Rick Moranis is Barney Rubble. Sure. What do you think about that? Why is Ryan Goslin doing this? Why is this happening? I don't know. Is this not a joke?
Starting point is 00:18:54 Does it sound like a joke to you? We know Jim Carrey's doing a Jetsons movie. Do we? That still could be a joke. I don't know what's a joke and what's not, Mason. It's hard to know. Sometimes people threaten to murder people at Warner Brothers, and that's a joke. Do I know if this is a joke?
Starting point is 00:19:06 It's hard to say. I mean... Do people like the Flintstones? Yes. They did. Do they like it enough to buy tickets to a... Bam-Bam. He's grown up Bam-Bam. Growing up Bam-Bam.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Is he going to be in the Flintstone's world, or is he going to be Bam-Bam and he suddenly ended up in the modern world like Barbie? Oh, my God. Imagine if he went to the real modern world. Right? He's trying to get a job in an office, but his ties made out of bear skin or whatever. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:19:30 He's never going to get a job, or he will get a lot of jobs. It's probably going to. That's what I'm saying. He might get a lot of jobs because they're like, look at this guy. He doesn't play by the rules. God, this guy's, I bet he's got an amazing LinkedIn account. Look at his disgusting feet.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Oh, my God. We have to hire this man. What's going on? Because it's disgusting feet. I mean, also, he looks like Ryan Gosling. Oh, yeah, we forgot about that. I mean, I'm sure this could be funny. Because, you know, Barbie could have gone any which way.
Starting point is 00:19:54 Yes. Because there are a billion different ways you could interpret Barbie. And, you know, maybe this is in a similar way. There's only one way to interpret Bam Bam, and that's sexy. Sexy Bam Bam. Modern day, not the child. Just to be clear. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:08 He's long dead. Bam Bam is long dead. I'd hope so because he was a prehistoric fellow, wasn't he? Yep And his pet was a dinosaur Or whatever I don't know what's going on I don't know what's going on
Starting point is 00:20:17 Mason by a deadline Do you know they're doing that Robicop TV series Eight episodes Ring ring Hello Yes Hello
Starting point is 00:20:23 Am I speaking to James You are actually Oh terrific Good How are you today James I'm having a regular time Okay That's great
Starting point is 00:20:30 Can you do Do me a favour Actually you know I say it was book week Last week Fucking nightmare Costumes Gala
Starting point is 00:20:36 There's multiple like Different projects Happening at school You know It's like Oh it's where this today It's where that today Oh what's going
Starting point is 00:20:42 on you're going to build a costume for your children or whatever. Or if you don't do it, you look like an idiot. Sounds like you've had a big week, James. This is deadline. You got a pen and paper handy? I do actually have it. I've got a computer. If you could tell you what, if you could just put that pen of paper, as it were, the virtual
Starting point is 00:20:56 pen of paper. I'm ready. If you could draw something for me, if you can imagine a little cylinder. Yep. Like a maybe it's maybe nine millimeters in width. Okay. Maybe it's got sort of a pointy end, like a sort of a hollow point of an end. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:08 I'm going to draw that in his point. Terrific. And then if you get your name, James. If you could write James on that, if you could sort of along the length of it, you could write James on it. Okay. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:18 That's actually a bullet, and the next one's going to come a lot quicker. You're dead. Where deadline. Why did I agree to this? I don't know, man. I even drew it. Whoa, he did it.
Starting point is 00:21:28 He did it. He drew his own demise. Because deadline will get you. I shouldn't let them call in. No. What did you get your kids to dress as for deadline? Well, why don't you missed it. It was Hilda and Woodman.
Starting point is 00:21:39 If you've been with Hilda, it's on Netflix and it's a series of cartoons. I have seen a still of that, yes. Yeah, and it's cartoon comic books. They're really fun and good. And the woodman is from the Hilda universe. Mason is not an original invention. I would never do that.
Starting point is 00:21:51 I wouldn't be so bold as to add something to the Hilda universe, which is incredible. God, you should get, for Book Week, you should get your kids to dress as like one of those weird conceptual costume party. Oh, I'm fame, actually. You know? I'm not going to live forever. Yeah, that's right. I'm fine. My daughter's just wandering in the backyard.
Starting point is 00:22:08 I'm just wondering what she's doing. I just going on the trampoline. On on, God bless her. Getting active, that's important. I agree. She should get rid of that trampoline. You think so? Yeah, why not?
Starting point is 00:22:18 Well, she's having fun, so this would be the perfect time to take it away. This would be the perfect time to make it off limits, I think. Hey, what do you do? Just go up to it. I think it's a good time to teach your children about, you know, just arbitrary changes in their lives. And also gas lighting. So go up to her and be like, hey, I thought we said, no more trampolines. We said that.
Starting point is 00:22:36 We said it. You never listen. Anyway, Robocop. Yep. Dan Stevens will play Alex Murphy. What a crazy left field result here. Having him joins us? Yeah, I think so.
Starting point is 00:22:46 So I guess my assumption are always been, yes, there is probably some sort of Robocop project in the works at any given time. I mean, we've heard multiple different versions of this. There was going to be a movie and Peter Well is going to come back. Now, people have said now all I've seen is Dan Stevens, he did a post about it, but people have said Dan Stevens is Robocop. Now, they haven't said Dan Stevens is Officer Alex. Murphy. That's interesting. So what are we doing here? Do we have any more details? Because my
Starting point is 00:23:14 my pitch for a for a robo cop movie. Yeah. If you could threaten Warner Brothers again. But I can easy. Could you do it right now? Water Brothers, I'll kill all of you, every one of you. Terrific. Anyway, my pitch for the robocop movie, which is going to be entered into evidence right now, is that Alex Murphy, who was robo cop, he gets, he becomes the police commissioner, he becomes the mayor of Detroit or something like that. And they put him back into a Peter Weller body. Yeah. And he's like, oh, no. anymore and then another guy gets robocopped. Yes. And then he's like, well, I'm going to have to teach you how to be a robocop. And at the end, they team up and he puts on the old robo cop suit and they, whatever.
Starting point is 00:23:49 And at the end, Alex Murphy dies or he's like, I'm double retiring, actually. So you'll never see me again, but I respect your work, new robocop. Because that's the only way you can do it now, I think. Yeah, I agree. I mean, they tried rebooting it. Didn't go super well. According to Deadline, who rang in earlier and threatened me, which I would never do, by the way. It says he's Alex Murphy.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Okay, then. Well, big mistake. Yeah, it might be. No, it's probably all right. So as Peter Okho is doing this, he was behind pushing daisies. So he's going to show around this, but he's also written on the office, the leftovers, the Black Sails. I like Black Salas? Yeah, Park Lewis Can't Lose.
Starting point is 00:24:27 The show or the movie? I don't know. Dinosaurs, if you remember that show. Of course I do. I'm not the baby. It was The Simpsons, but they were all dinosaurs. Yes, I remember. And they all died in a nuclear apocalypse.
Starting point is 00:24:37 Flintstones, dinosaurs, sexy. Yeah. So, you know, I don't know, man. Okay, this is important. Dan Stevens' height. He'd be at least six toes. He's six, zero. He's six foot even. Really? He looks tall than I are. I would say he's a real six foot. Yeah, right. I know, we're not believing anything.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Yeah. Are we? No. Just to be clear. Somebody in the suburb of Downton Abbey said, I ran into Dan Stevens and he is tall. I knew it. This was a few years ago in Los Angeles. I was browsing in a small and very quiet clothing store when he and two other people came in and started looking around. Maybe he was in town for the awards. I recognized him and asked politely if it'd be okay to ask a photo from him.
Starting point is 00:25:14 He said, well, maybe not today. So right away, I said, of course, I understand. Thank you for your art. One thing I remember about his appearance is he's very tall and rather skinny. I'm 5-9 and was wearing heels and he was taller than me. Whoa. Well, here you go. How do you feel about that, him being like, I'm not getting a photo with you?
Starting point is 00:25:31 Do you find that rude? I don't know. Do you think he should be grateful? What says he was there with two other people? Maybe they were his children or something. I don't know. Didn't say children. people.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Two people, isn't it? Children aren't people yet. That's absolutely true. It's fine. I think, yeah. Yeah, I like him. I like him in things. You've got to be skinny to be a robocop.
Starting point is 00:25:48 That's what I'm saying, right? Because famously Peter Weller, he was a dancer before he was a robocop. And there's a lot of bulk to the suit. Yeah. So you need the guy in there to be, to be quite slim. Or, CGI. Or you just CGI. Easy.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Easier than anything. But I mean, the thing here is obviously that the manner. And the war has got to be correct. Oh, yeah, absolutely. And very few of them nailed that. Ooh, Celeb Heights.com says Dan Stevens is in fact six foot zero. This one I think might be true. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Something about him. And here's a picture of him. He's long and lean. It's all enough to be. And look at me and saying no photos, thank you, not today. I'm in some sort of... I got two people with me, so no photos. That's right.
Starting point is 00:26:31 All right. Well, actually, if you look at that photo, there's nobody with him. That's true. So you've got to get him with his not around anymore. Maybe they're just out of frame though, you know? I don't actually know what's happened in that photo that I've never seen before. Yeah, this is from,
Starting point is 00:26:42 this photo seems to be many. Is he the crickets? What's going on? I don't know. He's wearing a sort of seer-sucker blazer of some sort. Dude, the only sucker I see is you. If you don't mind me saying so. I don't mind it all.
Starting point is 00:26:53 That was great. Fantastic. Yeah, that's good. He's a weird guy who makes interesting choices and I like it. I know there's a spiritual sequel to The Guest, which is out. What's that one called? John Luegazama's the Pest.
Starting point is 00:27:06 No Maniac, something, something. It's got Adria. Ahona. So he's in the get. If anyone's seen the guest from like 2014, it's really good. There was an Adam Wingard movie who then made some King Kong movies. Which is why he's in. Which is why he's in.
Starting point is 00:27:18 Whatever, whatever, whatever. I like him. Anyway, speaking of the 80s, or should I say 90s? Oh, yes. Cole trickle will return, Mason. Oh, hang on before we do that. Oh, my God. I've already moved on.
Starting point is 00:27:27 What do you want out of this rovercott movie? Do you have any preferences at all? It's an eighth episode Amazon show. Oh, yeah. So that's what you want, is it? I want him to not be... That's what you want it to be a show, do you? I want him to surf Dracula it.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Okay, so no suit until right at the end. Yeah. And he puts it on and there's a five-minute action sequence and he's like, I'm Robocop now. And then they'll see you next season. We won't. And then it's five years later if they even make it. Yeah, right. And he's too big for the suit now.
Starting point is 00:27:51 I guess by one thing I'd be like, get on with it. Yep. And it's one of those things where you cannot recapture that movie. It's like a perfect movie. So I hope it has the spirit of the Robocop. It's got the satires and the whatever. Do you have to update the satire for a modern day? I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Not really. Do you think everybody wants to be everybody How about this? A guy comes in, he goes to rob a convenience store, everyone's on their phones. Dude, right? They're not even looking at it. They're not even looking at him. He says, put the money in the bag, and they're like, we don't have any money or any bags.
Starting point is 00:28:20 We don't have any... It's actually 10 cents for a bag. Yeah, it's 10 cents for a bag, and we don't have any money. Yeah. Oh, man, that would make me think. That's right. And he's like, well, put all the Bitcoin into my Bitcoin wallet. And then Robocop comes in and shoots his dick off.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Wow. Yeah. He didn't even have to shoot him that many times. That's right. But I guess he had a really long dick and he was like chipping away at it, right? Chip it away.
Starting point is 00:28:44 Well, he cut it off at the root and then he just shot it in the air a few times. What the hell, man? Like a tin can. Yeah, like a tin can. Dude. Yeah. Like legitimately, that's a fucked up thing to do. Well, that's Robocop.
Starting point is 00:28:58 You think also second shot it would like disintegrate. Well, do you think so? But Robicop's got special bullets, if you recall. Yeah. He does have special bulletin. If anybody could shoot a dick out of the air five times, it would be Robocop. Right. Anyway, that's what we want from the Robocop reboot.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Okay, okay, but also, what's the suit going to look like? It's got to be the old suit, right? Yeah. It's just Robocop, man. Don't make it, like, I think you're going to be inclined to make it like the reboot one with what's his face. Yeah. And he'd be like, well, Dan Stevens is long and lanky so we can make, give him an agile suit or whatever. No, he's got to be a tank.
Starting point is 00:29:37 He's a bus. He's a bus and a tank. Yeah. Agreed. And don't give him a stun gun. What are you doing? Yeah. You know?
Starting point is 00:29:45 Give him that spike. Give him the spike for stabbing in the neck. Yeah. And also for computing. Yeah. But mostly for stabbing. Yeah. Anyway, cold trickle will return.
Starting point is 00:29:55 If people remember the movie Days of Thunder from 1990. And it's sequel F1, the movie. Yeah, that's right. It's obvious sequel. It's obvious sequel. So Days of Thunder, too, we knew what's happening. But now we know Anne Hathaway is going to be the last. interest because Tom Cruise needs a love interest that is a person who's 20 years younger than him,
Starting point is 00:30:11 but not any more than that, but also not any less than that. And that Hathaway is right in that zone, you know? And you have to look at them and go, well, I guess they could be married, I guess. Yeah. Yeah. You know, the sparks left a little bit. Yeah, also what happened to Nicole Kippen from the first movie? Yeah, what happened to her?
Starting point is 00:30:30 What happened to Mrs. Trickle? No, I don't actually know. So, yeah, Days of Thunder, we've actually done a movie commentary on it. It's an odd duck of a film. Absolutely. Patrick Williams has got a great video on it, how it, like, killed the 80s movie. Yeah. Even though it's a 90s movie, obviously.
Starting point is 00:30:45 And it was sort of a vanity project for one of Don Simpson or Jerry Brockano, whichever one of us. We're going to be in a lot of it as well. And it was just like a cocaine-fueled, like madness, the whole thing. It's also like, because it's a spiritual sequel to Top Gun. Yes. Because a lot of the same people are involved. Yeah. It's not as good.
Starting point is 00:31:02 So is this going to be a spiritual sequel to Top Gun Maverick? Maybe it will be. Miles Teller. But Miles Teller. Monica Barbaro. Glenn Powell. Glenn Powell. No pal of mine.
Starting point is 00:31:12 Lewis Pullman. What a stacked cast of future stars in that Top Gun Maverick. I would also say stars at the time, Mason, including Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connolly. Okay, then yes. Yeah. Yeah, summer 2028, let's let Anne Hathaway have a baby. Keep Tom Cruise away from that. And then we'll just...
Starting point is 00:31:30 Because Seintel just eat babies, is what you're saying. They eat babies and placenters. and whatever else, everyone else can get their hands on. Allegedly, this is not me saying it. This is when they tried to recruit me. This is what they told me. Wow.
Starting point is 00:31:40 Yeah. Wow. This is a fact. They said, we like the fact that you're threatening Warner Brothers executives. That's right I am. We'd like to bring you in the inner circle. And I would have liked to have gone, but I was busy. I was busy writing threatening letters to Warner Brothers executives.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Yeah. Because they do not write themselves, as you know, May said. Just get AI to do it. Yeah. Days of Thunder. I mean, F1 was a success. Yeah. And they've talked about,
Starting point is 00:32:02 Top Gun was a big success. Africa's a huge success. They've talked about crossing them over and whatever. And they're going to be like, we did it for real, blah, blah, blah. It's going to be all that. Oh, what if at the end of Days of Thunder 2, Brad Pitt, whatever his name, he shows up?
Starting point is 00:32:15 Yeah. He's like, mind of I step in? I don't think so. You're a dad and I'm a dad. And in these movies, we're good dads. Yeah. Outside of these movies, who's to say? Outside of these movies, that doesn't exist.
Starting point is 00:32:28 In this way, just a couple of good dads. Good dads, yeah. And then they do a race together or whatever. Yeah, they zoom off. Into the sunset. To do good dad stuff. Good dad stuff. I'm sure I had another thought about Days of Thunder, but it's not relevant.
Starting point is 00:32:40 It's not important. It's not important. Robert DeValle was in it. That's true. Got anything to say about that? Who's the modern day Robert DeVal? Old guy. Bald.
Starting point is 00:32:51 Yep, good. Patrick Stewart. I was going to say Ed Harris. Yes. Is he in Maverick? He might have been. Or you balled up John Hamm. And he's like, I can't believe you've done this to me again, Dick Trickle.
Starting point is 00:33:02 I don't know, bald. You might be bold. You blew past me and you blew all my air off. And it wasn't a wig just to be clear. It was my real hair. I'm mad about it. That movie also had... Which movie?
Starting point is 00:33:17 Days of Thunder. Right. Yondu. Michael Rooker. Yeah. God, bring them all back. Speaking of the 80s returning or whatever. Go on. Or the 70s.
Starting point is 00:33:27 They've always been back and they'll always be back. That's true. You ever been to a party? 80s party? Yeah, yep Yeah When is that going to be I guess there's Y2K parties now
Starting point is 00:33:36 That's right Yeah People are like remember You look at old photos And you go No one has even on their phones We would have been if we had them That's right
Starting point is 00:33:42 We definitely would have been Yes It was a perfect time Right now On our phones all the time Exactly This is by a French outlet Allosign
Starting point is 00:33:52 Or Elycine I don't know Do you know anything about the French Ring ring Allo sign This is James Yes You're dead
Starting point is 00:34:00 Le Morte Le mort for you The dead The death Oh no Yeah that's all right Yeah I don't like all these outlets
Starting point is 00:34:08 Are threatening me with death That's what you do That's what you do What goes around comes around It's different when I do Because I mean it It's different I mean it's a joke
Starting point is 00:34:17 Ring ring ring We mean it Oh no they mean it too To be LeClear We mean it Thanks Alo Cien Bonjour What you're still on the line
Starting point is 00:34:31 I think you've done the thing that you need to do. I think this bit is over, or real thing that's happening. And I just don't think you need to just figure out what French you know and then say that to me. Okay? That's all I'm saying. Fromage. You could say that. Nice.
Starting point is 00:34:48 That would be a good one, wouldn't it? So Ridley Scott was talking about the next alien movie. Yes. And he said the one that just came out, we saw about Alien Romulus, was okay. Terrific. I think it needs some help. So I've gone back in. I mean,
Starting point is 00:35:01 Dude. Yeah, come on, man. What are we talking about? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You said, I've already got the footprint for the next alien. We did Prometheus and then Alien Covenant. So I'm picking up where we left off in Covenant with Michael Fastbender, who now thinks he's Ossimandius. So I guess he's saying Watchman or Red Watchman.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Or does he mean Oseimandius there? No. Okay. The King of Kings. This was already happening. Yes. A sequel to, which was going to be a Prometheus Covenant slash Romulus sequel. They were going to call it Prometheaneteless.
Starting point is 00:35:34 Alien Promethyneteless. That's right. Two. And I know. Oh, that's what it is. Two, what? When I had a thought about Days of Thunder. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:42 I was going to say something profound. It was going to be days, but it's spelled the A-Z-E. That would have been good. Days of Thunder 2, T-O-O question mark. That's what it was going to be. That was the joke that I always did. I suppose you've got that thing you always do. No, well, you know, the memory's not what it once was.
Starting point is 00:35:56 That's true, Mason. I've seen actually some like Oh here we go I've talked to you about this and I can't say where But I've seen some The original version of this What it was going to be I've seen some concepts from it You saw it on your computer
Starting point is 00:36:10 You can tell it on my computer yeah And this is not an AI thing This is a real thing And it was basically David started up This new utopian society David is Michael Fassman Because he's got all those embryos or whatever And it intersects with Kaylee
Starting point is 00:36:22 Spainy's character reign From whatever And there was so there was like This beautiful kind of like utopian version of this world where David's made himself the centerpiece and this monuments to him. And then there's a second level which is just like we're all the people who defied him or offshoots and just like.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Right. So it's a real heaven and hell situation. It's exactly that. It's exactly. It looked incredible. So potentially this would because the majority of that pitch is what Ridley Scott would have done anyway. So I suspect.
Starting point is 00:36:52 Totally. And this was a pitch from a few years ago. And this is also when Fedé Aavarez was going to do it. And apparently Disney and Fox or whatever. And I think also it seems like Ridley Scott. And I don't know this all for a fact. But the story is, and David Johnson was probably going to come back or whatever. So that would have, I don't remember him seeing him in it, but I think he was supposed to be in it because he's the Android and Romulus.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Really, Scott wanted to be involved again. And also because Romulus did so well, then all of a sudden everybody started paying attention. Yeah. Because that made a bunch of money and people generally liked it. And I liked it as well. Well, that made a bunch of money. Ridley Scott's current movies, making a bunch of money. So we just combine those two.
Starting point is 00:37:31 It's easy. It's success. Am I having the best time? Yeah. So there you go. That's where we're at. So we're probably going to get some version of that. Honestly, I would rather Ridley Scott did not do this.
Starting point is 00:37:41 Sure. And somebody else did. But Mr. Alvarez is not coming back. It's mind saying. No, he wasn't like, again, I don't know the full story. He wasn't forced out, but I know there were more hands involved. And I think he eventually was just like, well, I'm not going to fight my way to through this or whatever.
Starting point is 00:37:56 And also Ridley Scott owns all the concepts from all the best, you know. And he probably didn't want other people to use David or whatever. Even cool robot from Alien Romulus? Nerd robot who becomes Cool Robot? Do you think he owns that? I think Really Scott said, I only want to own cool robot. I don't want to own nerd robots. That's what he said.
Starting point is 00:38:13 So he retains the copyright on. Cool robot. On cool robot, nerd robot, okay. So Nerd Robot will have to, alien nerd robot will have to be a separate continuity. I would love a movie called Alien Nerd Robot, colon. Right. That's it. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:38:27 From the producers of the Big Bang Theory. Oh, acid for blood, this doesn't compute. This doesn't compute. I started to get... They programmed him with bad eyesight, so he has to wear glasses. Oh, good. Yeah, I've been watching Breaking Bad through YouTube shorts. Okay.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Just very different clips. I'm not a good show. I should actually re-watch it. But every now and then, they'll be like, you like Big Bang Theory. And it's like quickly just like, you will not get this in my algorithm. Ah. Like I will not. I refuse.
Starting point is 00:38:56 Good Lord. Anyways, Mason, we should talk about big movie of the week. Big movie. Well, it's different because big movie for us is different than overseas because Cody v. Acme is not out in Australia, but is in other parts of the world. It'll be out in September 18 or something in Australia. Which we hopefully can get a chance to say.
Starting point is 00:39:12 But we're going to talk about the dog stars. That's correct. Which is Ridley Scott's latest movie on a budget of like, it could be like a hundred, anywhere between, deadline says 70, but other people say as high as $110 million. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:24 And it's going to open to max maybe $4,000. 14 million in the US. It's also up, but still again. Spider-Man, which has crossed $2 billion, which has cost $2 billion. And there's also the fourth most profitable movie of all time now. Does anybody know this movie is out? I don't think so. Because last week we were stuck, we're like, what do we watch?
Starting point is 00:39:42 We don't know any movies. And then I think you texted me, you're like dog stars. And I'm like, oh, yeah. Because, I mean, the most I'd seen of this was maybe the poster, I think. It was a poster, and I knew it was a Ridley Scott, post-apocalyptic movie. A Scott Free Jones. That is all I went in knowing about this movie. But you knew that also was a big year for dog movies.
Starting point is 00:40:00 This is a dog movie. We've got Heart of the Beast where Brad Pitt hangs out with a dog. We've got Port Patrol versus dinosaurs. That's right. That's a dog movie too. The proper title is The Port Patrol Slaughter the Dinosaurs. Slaughter the dinosaurs. Yes, that's right.
Starting point is 00:40:14 The Port Patrol end the Triassic year is what it's called. And they just flame thrower in those dinosaurs. That's pretty cool, actually. So Port Patrol of a band, because they were superheroes for a while, right? Yeah, but I guess they did time travel or cloning or something. Whatever, yeah. It's probably a museum. I don't know what happens in the Port Patrol,
Starting point is 00:40:32 but they'll probably go to a museum and the dinosaurs come to life. I'm happy to tell you all about a mason. There's Marshall and there's a three or four other ones. Is it out? Okay. I haven't seen it. I've talked about this. My daughter, I guess, is poor patrol age,
Starting point is 00:40:45 but she has no interest in my son. It's too old for poor patrol. I don't have to ever see poor patrol ever again. You told him they slaughter the dinosaurs, though, right? They do slaughter the dinosaurs, and that's what I told them. Yeah. Yeah, because that's what you told me. That's right.
Starting point is 00:40:56 When you saw it. I never tell lies. The Dog Stars is based on a book, though, isn't it of the same name? Correct. And what do you think the story was? Oh, come on, man. All right, there's a lot to get into. Is there?
Starting point is 00:41:06 Yeah, sort of. Okay, so it's the future. It's the year 2035. Can you even imagine? The world's rooted, all right? Dude, what happened? There's been a flu as a bit of allergies gone around. Everybody's dead.
Starting point is 00:41:18 But one of the people who isn't dead is Higg, played by... Big Hig, they call it. Big Hig, big Hig, played by... Big tall Jacob Allardy. Big Higg with his big rig. Played by Jacob Allorty. And he's got a lot going on because he used to be a mechanic.
Starting point is 00:41:30 And now he lives in a little air. He lives in an airfield. And he's got a little dog. He's got a delightful dog called Jasper. And he's got a little Sessna plane. And sometimes he gets in a little Sessna plane and he takes a little trip up to the big smoke, up to the big city where he used to live. And he goes to his house to visit his wife, who's dead, by the way.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Yeah, twist. And then he goes and he's got a little routine where he gets in a little golf cart in Denver. and he goes around and he collects fuels and supplies fuel and medicine and branded Coca-Cola products. Oh yeah. And then he gets them all back in his plane. And then sometimes he goes, he visits the Mennonites. Benedict Wong's there. Benedict Wong's there.
Starting point is 00:42:06 And they're all, and they're all right. We're doing it okay. Some of us are coughing too much. Don't even worry about that. But then sometimes he goes back to visit his housemate. He's played by Josh Brolin, who's bangly. I have a note that initially, as watching this movie, I'm like, was maybe the book originally set in like the year 3000 or something?
Starting point is 00:42:30 Why is there a character called Higg and a guy called Bangley? I assume it's a last name thing, right? And there's a woman named Seema and so on and so forth. But anyway, Bangley doesn't go on these little trips because he is too busy babysitting all his guns. Yes. Because he was some sort of doomsday prepper type. And not only that, because he's in a location where people just run up on it all that.
Starting point is 00:42:50 Yeah, yeah, he's a little concerned about raders and so forth, but they got a good thing going, they got electricity and they got, they got all sorts of stuff. But then he, sometimes when he's up in the plane, he's like, he's little voices and his radio transmission, he's like, I wonder if there's more out there. I've got to go, I've got an adventurous spirit. I can't be sitting there with bagley all day. Yeah, man. Maybe I'll go out.
Starting point is 00:43:11 He's bangling on and on and on and on. Maybe I'll go out and I'll zip around and I'll find a paradise or whatever. And then he goes on a little adventure. He does go on a little adventure because, because he's, He's doing depression. He's doing depression. He's doing big depression. That's right.
Starting point is 00:43:24 Now, Ridley Scott, of course, he's hit or miss in terms of output. But by God, he's pumping him out. That's what I'm saying. He's 88. Yeah. And you see him in interviews, he's sharp as hell, man. And if you look at the last movies he's done, it was Gladiator 2, which I didn't like. Napoleon, I didn't mind.
Starting point is 00:43:40 I remember Napoleon being a lot of fun. House of Gucci was nonsense. Yeah, I like House of Gucci, though, as well. And before, yeah, I don't disagree. And before that was the last duel, which I think. thought was quite good. The last cool duel. Last cool duel.
Starting point is 00:43:53 So, yeah, hit or miss in terms of outfit. But I mean, overall, you know, Alien, you mentioned Blade Runner, which we're going to cover in Caravan and Garbage in a few weeks time. The Alien movies, The Martian. Yep. Kingdom of Heaven. Oh, yeah, people love that one. American Gangster.
Starting point is 00:44:07 American Gangester. Yeah. All sorts. Did I say Black Hawk down? No, you haven't, but do you want to? There it is. Gladiator. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:15 Obviously. Prometheus guys. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, he's got an incredible. Matchstick men, underrated. Oh, matching men, it's good, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:25 Look, people don't love this and be like, oh, yeah, you know, it's I am legend of children, man, it's 28 days or years later or whatever. And the Rotten Tomato School is like 40-ish. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I liked this a lot. I liked it a lot. I liked it a lot. I think it's very atmospheric. I think that's got a nice melancholy vibe.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Agreed. It's a low, it's for the most part, a very low-key movie. Yeah. There is a moment. Well, we'll talk about it. We'll talk about it briefly in a minute and also spoilers. But I thought great performance was from everybody. You know what it is? There's a lot.
Starting point is 00:45:00 People are saying a lot without saying a lot. There's a lot, you know. This movie had a very, I think, refreshing lack of exposition. Totally. Nobody's sitting down and going well, as you know, the reason there was a big, the reason there's so few people is there was a flu. A flu and then did something to the DNA or whatever. It's just like it was a flu and everybody died. They all have to live in it.
Starting point is 00:45:20 And Bangley and Higg never sit down and have a conversation where they reminisce about how they met because they were there when they met. Exactly. It's not. They don't need to. When I found you in or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:30 None of that. I found you in a big bin, the biggest bin I'd ever seen. I was like, I hope there were guns in it, but there wasn't. There was a big boy man there. Big tall Jacob Alorty.
Starting point is 00:45:38 I said that he'd come and live with me. So it's him, it's, uh, so Jacob, he'llardie, Margaret, quality, Josh Bowling. Guy Pear is in this.
Starting point is 00:45:44 There's some other people. Yeah, So there's a little detour. He gets in his plane, he decides he's going to go on an adventure. He has a little mechanical failure, and he puts it down in a field, and he runs into Pops and Seema, who are a father and daughter. And they have a little farm going on. And then, of course, you know, various action set pieces may arise.
Starting point is 00:46:07 Yeah, there's some war boys or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, there's some, you know, some reapers and some creepers and some sleepers or whatever. Yeah, exactly. Just a bunch of guys. But I thought it was nice. Like it's a, what's so interesting about this is there's, I think, I think it looks really beautiful. You know, obviously there's, there's, uh, it feels very, I think a lot of it was shot in Italy.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Like, it feels very real location. I don't know how much of the plane stuff is real, but it certainly feels real. But it's, it's not, it's not about like, God, let's survive this apocalypse. It's more about like, when now we're in this world and all the stuff we, it's quiet and it's like noodling about. Yeah, and kind of like, and, and, you know, we're in this world now, but like, remember our previous life, what did we do? what did we not do
Starting point is 00:46:45 yeah you know there's a there's a there's a scene in it where where bangley is talking about he's talking about a friend of his and all the regrets his friend had and it's like that's you man
Starting point is 00:46:58 that's you that's you know I don't know I thought good performances so but what you said earlier you know you said it's children and men it's Iron Legend and what have you so I at about the second about the end of the second act this is better than I'm legend I should say
Starting point is 00:47:12 absolutely is one a million But here's the thing about this movie is that at about the end of the second act, I am thinking to myself, I'm watching this movie, I've enjoyed it all up to this point, I've enjoyed the atmosphere, I've enjoyed the vibe, I've enjoyed the performances, I think, you know, Jacob Allorty, he's very good. He's good in this, yeah. He does look like a private schoolboy from Melbourne, which he is. That's true.
Starting point is 00:47:33 But I've never seen him in euphoria or anything like that, so I'm not biased in that manner. But I get into this point and there's this point where Higg, you know, he doesn't, he doesn't sleep, he sleeps sort of out in a field, he's got to be. big down jacket on. And there's no real reason why he's just kind of... But he's looking, he's looking up the stars and he's thinking, you know, he's thinking, oh man, you know, I don't know about this whole world of mine that's going on. I don't know about it. Maybe I've got some regrets. Maybe I shouldn't have, maybe my shouldn't have, my wife shouldn't have died. It's a regret I have. She got the fluid she died. I regret that. I regret that. But, and I had the thought,
Starting point is 00:48:09 I'm like, you know, haven't we seen this all before? Okay. And then, something happens and I'm like wow we haven't seen this before but we have seen it before but we've never seen such a severe handbrake turn into this we'll do it in spoilers but what I would say is
Starting point is 00:48:28 that you might be like based on what we said it's a post-apocalyptic there's a flu or whatever you might be like oh zombies is it no if it were zombies I would have been like oh they hid that in the trailer or it's not on the poster or whatever you know but a bit of restraint they didn't immediately put zombies in this
Starting point is 00:48:44 But I wouldn't be surprised by this. It is closer to, do you remember when Michael Bay was making the Transformers movies? And in one of the Transformers movies, he was clearly watching a lot of the classic sitcom The Office. And he went, just put half an hour of the office in my movie. But without jokes. Who's going to stop me? And he just hired a bunch of comedic actors. Like Ken Jong and Andy Daly.
Starting point is 00:49:04 And just put him in there. Except, and so that's the closest to this. Except the Transformers movies have always been demented. And that movie starts demented. and the the sitcom bit is also demented. It's like the idea of it is in the book, but it's not like this. I looked it up as well. It's not like this at all.
Starting point is 00:49:25 Like there is the section, but. So this is closer to if you were watching this movie on a on TV. Yeah. And you switched over to another channel. And it was just a crazy movie. But it was the same actors. A similar vibe. And it was, but it was crazy.
Starting point is 00:49:41 And then you just flipped it back. Yeah. And it's just the first movie again. And the tonal shift is bizarre. And to the extent where I'm like, post seeing this movie, I've gone, I've just thought about it. I'm going, hmm, that's a good vibe. I like the vibe. Nice, nice thing to think about.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, there's that. Where I'm like, I don't know if I, it's hard. It would be hard to recommend this movie. Yeah. Because there's such a tonal shift and nobody, it's like nobody even recognizes it the movie. What I, what I, what I loved about that, for, like, the reasons that you said that it was so bizarre. And I knew that something, like, this is going somewhere, but like, it'll be, like
Starting point is 00:50:25 you said, it'll be zombies or whatever. I didn't at all think it was going to be this. It's like, so that's the thing. It's like you haven't seen it before, but it's like Ridley Scott was playing a particular video game or watching the streaming show based on the video game and when, I'll just put that in, yeah, who's going to stop me kind of thing. And like you said, I went, oh, maybe this is, maybe it's accurate to the book. Yeah. But it's not. It's not.
Starting point is 00:50:45 It's not. It's not. Like, the structure of this is similar to the book, but there are some changes, some dog stuff and some other bits and pieces. Yeah. So my understanding is that in the book, a lot of the things that happen are just, there's a moment there's not a dramatic push towards. Where he meets Michael Colley and Guy Pearce, like, there's things like, I think he was
Starting point is 00:51:02 shot out of the air. Whereas this, he's forced to land. Yeah, right. It's different or whatever. Yeah. Or there's a moment in, in the book where it's like, well, now it's time to move on. Let's, or there's a. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:12 But in this, it's. It's like, we're being pursued, we've got to go. It does feel episodic, though, as a movie, because it is kind of in part. I think also, if I had a complaint about this, which I'm sure I could think of many. But it feels like there was more to this, in particular that third act. Like, it's like, it's like 10 minutes, bang, and then we're just back to what we were previously going. And it's interesting also because I'm like, this was almost like a really interesting movie about what do you do when the world's ending. It's like, you know, it sort of feels like a movie about someone who, like maybe it's about a really old person or something and they live there and they go, oh, what do you do when it's the end of your life and you regret things and you can't change them and blah, blah, like that's kind of the tone and the theme, which I quite liked.
Starting point is 00:51:57 Yeah. Except it's like, what do you do when it's the end of the world and you can't just go to another city and, you know, start over again or something because it's all over. I thought that that's really interesting to this kind of nihilistic thing. Absolutely. But you can't take that bit out. I can't recommend it as like, well, it's not a lot of action, but it's kind of like, you know. There is quite a bit of action in this also. But like, yeah, I guess when you, we'll talk about it and spoil this, but when you look at, we, we know that on the outskirts of this world, there are kind of these gangs of raiders and et cetera.
Starting point is 00:52:29 Yeah. And I guess if you think of them as colorful characters, then I guess the bit would work. But I also feel like you couldn't take this bit out without it being, being, the movie being incomplete. There's no, there doesn't seem to be any scope for like a version, like, you know, when it goes on streaming, somebody could cut their own version where they cut that bit out and whatever because it wouldn't work. You'd have to reshoot the entire thing. You know what this did remind me of? The TV show Station 11, which is also that post-pocalyptic and whatever and airport stuff and whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you know what? I'm glad that that bit is in it. Yeah. Because I was, I was like, shit, I'm paying attention. Right. Yeah. As soon as they land, I'm like, something's, okay, what's this? And then. It's just like this, we should talk about, new spoilers. Yeah, I'm going to say best movie ever. I enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:53:16 I liked it a lot. Something we are, I certainly often talk about is how I've gotten to the point where I often with a movie I go, you know, not everything worked, but I really liked the scenes that did work. Yep. Or like some of the movies pretty bad, but there's one scene that's really good. Like to me, this was worth the price of admission. Maybe you don't go in if you're just like, I want to see what the novelty is. No.
Starting point is 00:53:39 I think, yeah, if the trailer appeals to you, it's mostly that. Yeah. And then there's an extra thing. Which we'll talk about now. Yeah, okay, yeah. So, time for big spoilers. Hang on. Let's, hang on, before we get into that, just we'll leave some spoiler space.
Starting point is 00:53:54 Some other stuff that is spoilers. So the dog dies. Mm-hmm. If you don't like that. It does in the book, but it dies of old age. Yeah. So in this one, so Bangley, who's Josh Brolin's character, he doesn't like the fact that he keeps leaving and he's always like,
Starting point is 00:54:07 I want to leave because he doesn't like the fact that he wants, he always wants two people to do. defend their space and he thinks that's the good the best way to live life. He's also not wrong. No. And also he's, you know, he gives some advice to Higg who wants to leave and, you know, maybe there's, maybe there's more people out there. There's something cool and better out there. And Bangley always keeps saying to him, one will know what you're going to encounter is people like us who have guns and they have knives and they have dangerous stuff and dogs and whatever and they know the land better than you and they want to take your stuff. And that's what's going
Starting point is 00:54:39 to happen to you. You've made, this is a terrible idea. Just stay where you. you are but he's like no i gotta i gotta go but then uh he's semi right because it's margaret qually yeah yeah so so um so then there's a there's a raid on the encampment by an assortment of yeah you know boy which encampment the guy pierce one or the no there's a raid on the the brolin encampment yeah just by a couple of a couple of guys and in and what happens is one of them stabs uh his dog oh yeah and then he's like well i got no risen to stick around here you know because i hate you josh bro you know what there's a very there's a moment that i really like where he writes a little note and he puts it in a bottle when he's burying the dog and he writes
Starting point is 00:55:14 this is Jasper he's my best friend and I'm like nah didn't say Josh Boland was his best friend that's right yeah yeah yeah yeah Josh Boland was the guy who like you know sometimes you work with someone and you're like I guess I hang out with this guy yeah that's right yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah you dread the moment where he might go we're friends right and you have to be like well yeah what you're doing after work nothing nothing man I'm tired I mean I'm really busy yeah whatever I'm really busy with boring stuff. Yeah, I thought that was a very affecting moment, because you could see how he cared
Starting point is 00:55:45 for the dog. And the dog, you know, was, he would take it to visit the Amish Mennonite types and they loved the dog and everything, and that was nice. Probably giving him the goddamn plague. Yeah, so then he So he decides to leave for real. Leave for real, and he runs, of course, in a Seema and Pops. Yeah. And Pops doesn't
Starting point is 00:56:01 like him. Because he's Guy Pearce. Because he's a guy Pierce, and he's protective over his daughter, and Higg is probably a raider, and he's six or five. Yeah, true. And he's got lots of guns on him. And a bag of grenades. I like the bit where Hebrangley's like, you might need these, a bag of hand grenades. Because you can drop these from an airplane.
Starting point is 00:56:17 However you want. However you want. A bit of fun. Bit of fun. It was interesting that you met Guy Pearce and Guy Pearce was just Josh Brolin's character. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's interesting that they, they technically meet.
Starting point is 00:56:29 At the end, right at the end, yeah. But they don't. And they're on the poster together. They don't share, like, a moment together. No, no. Do you make him kiss? That's all I'm saying, man. Perfect.
Starting point is 00:56:40 Get him to kiss. Anyway, so then they go, because he's like, I'm going to find this mysterious message where it's coming from. But of course, he needs to, you know, he's emergency land at his plane and he needs to, he needs to clear a kind of a launch, a launch, a launch, what do you call it? Pad. McQuack. He's got a launch pad, McQuack. He's got a clear, he's got a runway. So they can get away.
Starting point is 00:57:02 So that's going to take some time. So, you know, reluctantly pops, you know, lets him stick around. And of course, he has tobacco. Yeah, that's right. And he can see him a fall in love and blah, blah, blah. And then he's like, yeah, yeah. And then Hig is like, well, I'm going to, yeah, because Higga's like, well, I'm going to leave. This has all been very nice, but I'm going to leave because there's this.
Starting point is 00:57:19 I'm going to go to somewhere cool and good. I'm going to go to Grand Junction, which is wonderful. By the way, man, you struck all with that Guy Piers, Markupier's situation. Right. Dude. Yeah. Come on, man. Dude.
Starting point is 00:57:28 What do you think you're going to do better than Margaret Qualley in Guy Piers? And you can call back to Bangley and God, I got a dude for you to kiss, Bangley. He's just like you. except he's a cowboy? I think he's from the past, honestly. He's got weird old-timey guns. You've got new guns. Can you relate?
Starting point is 00:57:42 I don't know. I think you guys are going to come. But anyway, then the Reapers or the creepers or whatever, they show up. But also the gang that shows up there, they're different than the gang that raids Guy Pearce's. Because of course they are. Yeah. Like, not Guy Pearlessers, sorry, Josh Brolin's one, because they're like more war boys. They're war boys.
Starting point is 00:57:57 And they're more kind of Native American coded kind of. Yeah, sort of. I think I saw a criticism of this and it was something like, well, it's a little bit. I took a, as these aren't Native Americans. These are people who have just like adopted this aesthetic. This idea of being like
Starting point is 00:58:12 Ridley Scott's kind of this right wing filmmaker and the idea is that like oh well he you know everybody on the outside is a savage kind of thing and this is kind of you know stereotypical stuff but I sort of like you said one gang is just the war boys they're painting themselves in white with tattoos
Starting point is 00:58:28 and shaved their heads and they're all and then one group clearly the idea is like they're banded together and in this post apocalyptic world they've picked stereotypical tribal ideas. And so one group is like... It's the warriors. Yeah, it's the warriors.
Starting point is 00:58:42 And one group is like, well, what do we know about tribes in America, Native America? So we'll just do the stereotypical thing from cowboy movies. Exactly. And anyway, so they attack Pops and Seamer's farm. And so they all have to escape on the plane. So they all have to go together. Anyway, they head towards this place called Grand Junction. And here's where the big spoiler is.
Starting point is 00:59:02 And Grand Junction's like, oh, who's it? We don't know if you should land. I don't know if you should land and Pops is like, well, what if we did? And they're like, okay, welcome aboard. And they go down. And then they end up in the fallout universe. They land and it's like a... As soon as I saw that military guy and he smile, I'm like, oh, no.
Starting point is 00:59:20 This is the fallout. So they land and it's quite a well-kept airfield and it's all the electronics are all working. They got planes and jets. They got planes and jets and, you know, army uniforms and assault rifles and stuff. And the Allison Janice show... Again, not in the book. No, and Alison Janney shows up And she's in like a beautifully pristine
Starting point is 00:59:39 Like 1960s Like Pan Am Air Hostess uniform There's a moment before they meet her They walk through and everybody's having like a 1960s airport party Yeah There's like people are putting in a little agal vest Martini's and they're all very strange Smoking cigarettes and they're sort of like wax dolls
Starting point is 00:59:58 Yeah and I'm assuming that Because we've come back to that area later Like that's not all the time That's like, oh, this is a performance that they put on. Like, they don't live like that, I assume, right? I don't know, man. It felt like a cult. Yeah, well, it is a cult.
Starting point is 01:00:11 Yeah. And so then Alice and Janie brings them in. Sit them down. And she's like, well, you know, it's nice you here. And, oh, Zima, you're a medical resident. That's good. Anyway, you're going to marry one of my soldiers. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:23 And they're like, what? And she's like, wha ha ha ha ha. And then it fucking kicks off. Yeah. That moment, so he doesn't say anything. No. And I love this And she puts out this big jug
Starting point is 01:00:36 Of just like really 80% proof Like alcohol Yeah And he's like to mind if I smoke And he flicks a fucking cigarette into it And then smashes a guy across the face It's Alice and Jannie I think he hits Alice and Janney
Starting point is 01:00:47 I thought he hit the soul She gets covered in fire And alcohol as well And then they just Kill their way out He already grabs an assault rifle I was laughing Yeah
Starting point is 01:00:58 genuinely like laughing out loud There's also some funny jokes in this But it was also I can't remember any of them But throughout the movie, there's just some kind of like, you know, little, little clips and stuff like that, which I quite enjoyed. But I was in a movie, I was in a theater with not a lot of people. So it's like, it's hard to get a reaction out of like five people or whatever. Mine was had more than that, but I don't know what everyone else's reaction was.
Starting point is 01:01:19 Yeah. But it just goes off. Oh, my God. It just, I loved it. I thought it. And just, I thought they'd poisoned Higg because he's really quiet. Yeah, right. He doesn't say anything.
Starting point is 01:01:30 And then he just explodes. Yeah, yeah. And Guy Pearce is like with him And they just start killing everybody In the room like a movie There's a moment where Guy Pearce throws Margaret Qualia gun And she drops it
Starting point is 01:01:41 Yeah And it feels like It feels like it feels real Because it feels like it really happened And they kept it in Yeah And it also But it's like
Starting point is 01:01:49 You get the sense Oh she does know what she's doing But it's like But there's a lot going on There's a lot going on And yeah They kill their way out They kill the way back out to the plane
Starting point is 01:01:58 Back through that weird room Which is not even weirder on the way out Yeah Because all the people have become like mannequins. Yeah. Oh, and also they've got a freezer full of people. They've been luring people there to eat them. To marry or eat them, I guess.
Starting point is 01:02:11 Mario, eat them, yeah. Yeah. I didn't love the grenade thing. I thought they could have been executed better. Because at the end, because they don't kill Alice and Janie when they obviously should have killed Alice and Janie. They just set her on fire and leave her. And then they get on their little plane and they go to fly away.
Starting point is 01:02:26 And Alice and Janie gets on the radio again, because she was the voice in the radio. She's like, I'm going to do. You think you're getting a little. away but I'm going to get everybody else and they go well luckily we have this bag of hand grenades provided by Just Brolin and they go back around and they all drop hand grenades and the whole thing blows up. It's crazy
Starting point is 01:02:41 it's crazy what happens And then it just goes back to being movie and then they just go well I guess I'll go back to my little airfield and you can meet Josh Brolin. Also Josh Brolin would have loved that don't you think he would have really Oh yeah also in the meantime Josh Roller's having his own situation
Starting point is 01:02:58 because he said don't he don't leave because this is hard to defend with only one person. Don't make me kill 150 people by myself. Exactly. But then the war boys show up and he's like, all right, he puts his night vision on. And he gets out there with his rifles or whatever. And he starts... And it feels more in line with the movie.
Starting point is 01:03:17 Yeah, he's stealth killing people. This doesn't feel out of place at all. No. And then he sort of gets overwhelmed and he gets shot with a couple of arrows and he climbs a tower and then the war boys shoot a rocket at his tower. And then everything explodes. And I'm like, he's not dead. We don't see him on fire as a charred corpse.
Starting point is 01:03:31 so he's still alive. So they come back, the main crew come back to where Bangley is and he's all, he's banged up, he's bangled up. There's a tension because he has a rule where like if you show up with weapons,
Starting point is 01:03:41 I will shoot you no matter what. And there's a moment where it's because Guy Pearce and Margaret Collie are coming through. I'm like, oh shit, is he going to like shoot one of them? Yeah, but he's just making coffee.
Starting point is 01:03:52 But it didn't become that kind of movie. No, it didn't. I thought it could have at any point though. I felt like it could. No, but I think it didn't. As soon as, as soon as the tower fell and everything,
Starting point is 01:04:01 and then everything exploded in the fallout universe. From that point forward, I'm like, well, the rules don't apply anymore. Like, if, if, if Higg and his two new friends had gone and having a little adventure and, you know, they'd learned about themselves and some other tragic thing had happened, maybe the donkey had died or whatever, and then they just flew back to where Bangley lived. Yeah. It wouldn't have shocked me then if, you know, Seema and Pops had run in and Higg was like, no, don't run in. And then it shot him. And then it was like, well, now you've double ruined the universe. I found two new friends and you killed them and now everything sucks
Starting point is 01:04:33 and now I'm back and everything's the same except I hate you because you killed my girlfriend and your boyfriend and your boyfriend but then but then I'm like no this is not gonna happen now they're just gonna be happy at the end and then they go live with the men and nights
Starting point is 01:04:46 and I like that Jeff Brolin's like he's up the back bin like I don't like any of this but then he picks up a guitar and he has a little strum along that's the movie yeah it's because it's not a perfect movie no it's not absolutely
Starting point is 01:04:57 I think it could have been longer which I don't know more to say but I really think this You know, the thing about it is I think because one of the reasons I think that that sequence feels so out of place is because everybody is weirdly pristine in it. Yeah, yes. Because I, watching it, I'm like. They have a metal detector. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:17 I wondered if they'd be, you know, my initial thought was I wonder if in the book Higg and Seamer and Pops they go to this place and she's supposed to look like an airline hostess, but she's all raggedy or whatever. Yeah. go, okay, she's working with what she has in this world. Yes. And everybody's all, you know, it's supposed to be the 50s and there, but they're sitting on buckets and, you know, they've made a bar, but it's just a bit of wood or something like that. But no, it's absolutely pristine and art deco and like perfect.
Starting point is 01:05:46 And I'm like, well, you've stepped into another universe. Like this, maybe it's a production mistake. You know, it's a decision that was made that I think is maybe incorrect. Like if it looked weirder, if it looked more ramshackle, I'd be like, oh, okay, they're trying to replicate a work. world that doesn't exist anymore. They're trying to just, they're trying to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that this is a world that is still normal, but it's not.
Starting point is 01:06:07 Yeah. But the fact that they could just do that. They nailed it. And then they went insane as well. Yeah. Doesn't work. Doesn't really work. But anyway, you know, that's the dog stars.
Starting point is 01:06:16 Anyway, yeah, hell of a movie. Yeah, again, I don't know if I would recommend it, but I enjoyed it. It might get more life on streaming, I guess. Yeah, potentially. I feel like... But also, what's Ridley Scott here? Yeah, I know, right? It's already, he's already made his next movie probably.
Starting point is 01:06:29 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I feel like this would have been better received if this came out 20 years ago. Yeah, right. But, you know, it is what it is. It is what it is. A good movie, we think, but other people don't as much. Yeah. Also, maybe, maybe, you know what?
Starting point is 01:06:43 It'll get to a new life when it's just snippets on TikTok. Oh, yeah, totally. It's snippets on TikTok. And people will be like, what movie is this is from? Yeah, and it'll be like, you know, it'll be like maybe the action sequence where, right at the start where Josh Brolin's like snipering people from the tower and it'll be like, he knew we are. to defend his home and so he did
Starting point is 01:07:01 with a gun you know that narrative or whatever and people are like this is intriguing what movie is this and then after a while you know the 50th comments it'll be like this is the dog stars and then you'll watch it and go huh what a movie what a movie all right should we move it in the segment of the show let's move into the next segment of show
Starting point is 01:07:17 the next segment of the show is what we read we're going to read yeah let's do it let's do it I'm doing the thing this is a segment we talk about things we're watching listening doing reading having racing Running. Did you watch The Spooky Man on Netflix? I didn't know we were...
Starting point is 01:07:38 I didn't know we had to talk... We were allowed to talk about racing and running. Oh, we know. Wow. I'm always racing and running, James. That's right. Did you watch The Whisper Man on Netflix? No. It was like, what if it was a thriller from the 90s, something that Ashley Judd would have been in, but it's the modern day and it's got Adam Scott in it or whatever. No, it's kind of like...
Starting point is 01:07:58 Okay, I'm like Adam Scott. Yeah. That's why he was on the Criterion closet this week. Was he? Yes. Who put him in there? But it's also... It's like...
Starting point is 01:08:05 Nick Hofferman did. Yeah, it's silence with the lambs and whatever, whatever. Is it a joke, though? No, it's not a joke. And it's so paint by numbers, but I watched it and I was like, fascinating stuff. This is the kind of movie that I watched every week in the 90s. There's a movie coming out soon, I think. I suspect it's probably going to be director streaming called The Napa Boys.
Starting point is 01:08:22 The Napa Boys. And it's basically the premise is it's like a road trip style American Pie comedy, except it's about going to Napa Valley and drinking wine. Okay. And it's like, it's those Napa boys. Boys. It's cut and the idea is that it's Napa Boys 4. So the Napa Boys have gotten back together again.
Starting point is 01:08:41 It looks very exciting. This came out already. Did it? Yeah. Last year. Probably on streaming. Or maybe I think maybe it had a, you know, a festival debut or something like that. Yeah, right. It's out for real.
Starting point is 01:08:49 But it looks funny. I've got Sarah Ramos who was in the bear. Yeah, it's got a bunch of people that are in the bear. Yeah, in the bear. I like the look of it. I think it's stupid. Yeah. Well, it only made $45,000.
Starting point is 01:09:01 I think it's a festival thing. But yeah, it's a festival. Just of all crap. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. But it looks like, you know, Super Troopers or one of those kind of things. What did you really watch, though?
Starting point is 01:09:10 I really watched the movie. Tony. Tony, you were talking about you. Yeah, he was going to watch Tony. This is one of my classic doubles where I say it. I cover one segment by saying I was going to see a movie. And then the second segment I actually see the movie. He's doing half the work out of the later.
Starting point is 01:09:23 Exactly. That's right. And I get paid the same. And I get paid the same. So I really enjoyed it. It's directed by Matt Johnson, as mentioned, who did, Blackberry and Navarre the band of the show the movie, which haven't seen yet. But it is, it is, it's a snippet of the biography of Anthony Bourdain
Starting point is 01:09:40 before he became, you know, celebrity chef TV host, writer, etc. Pre being in, pre-running kitchen confidential. So it's pre-friends with Joe Rogan, which he was. Was he? That was a good. Oh, good. That's good. That's good. But it is, but it's set when he's, you know, a teenager or, you know, 18, 19, something
Starting point is 01:10:00 like that. And he goes to a place called Provincetown. chasing a girl and and he gets a job in a kitchen and you know sort of you know lives it up and has regrets and what have you i think it's really interesting because so it is it's it is based on a little bit the the early first couple of chapters of kitchen confidential yeah but a bunch of stuff in the book doesn't happen and a bunch of stuff in the movie happens that isn't in the book okay um he's been doing well i'm just googling it i don't know i couldn't say i've received well but um but it's interesting because
Starting point is 01:10:32 because, you know, it's also based on what I've read about Kitchen Confidential, a lot of the stories and that didn't happen or happen differently. Yeah, okay, yeah. So it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a movie where a bunch of stuff didn't really happen based in a book where a bunch of stuff made on a book. So it didn't really happen. Also, the character in the movie is a liar. Like, he's not, I wouldn't say he's quite a pathological liar, but he's, he's, he's a guy
Starting point is 01:10:54 who lies to, you know, he lies to advantage. And if he gets caught in a lie, he heads it off by telling another lie, until everything sort of collapses around him. And I just thought it was, you know, and Dominicessor is Tony, and I think he does a really good job. But it's, because it's sort of about a guy who wants to,
Starting point is 01:11:13 he wants to have a perfect coming of age story. Like he, first of all, he wants to write this coming of age story, like invent kind of one. Yeah. And then he's like, you know,
Starting point is 01:11:23 what I'll do is I'll just, I'll just go to a place. I know this girl I like is going to be, and then I'll have this perfect coming of age story. But then everything sort of falls. apart. It's about him kind of growing up a bit and not being a big ass liar and, you know, just sort of accepting more things as they come. Oh, I don't like this. Yeah. Antonio Banderas is in it as chef. Stavis and uh, um, Leo Waddle. Leo Waddle, I thought it was great. Amelia Jones was in the running
Starting point is 01:11:48 one. Yeah. I'm not really seen a lot of, oh yeah, she was the woman in the car. The woman in the car. Yeah, I've not seen Leo Waddle and a lot of stuff. My parents saw the movie Tuna and they thought it was very good. Well, he plays a tuna. Does he really? Yeah, flapping about. Now he plays a, he plays a, um, Piano Tune, who's really good at safecracking. Oh, I do know that. I've been fed clips of that. But so in this he plays a kind of, he plays one of Tony's workmates who,
Starting point is 01:12:12 like his first reaction to everything is to punch it kind of thing. Oh, okay, right. And he sort of leads Tony Australia until, you know, he learns. To not go Australia. To learn to not go Australia. I don't know what's Tuna. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:25 What's Tuna and Tony? Watch those two great movies. Double feature. Two great movies. Oh, Tuna's got Jean Reno. Yeah. Where was he earlier when the French rang in? We could have really used his help.
Starting point is 01:12:35 Yeah. Translations. Wee, we. You're doing a wee-wee? Yes. James, grow up. Can you use the bucket? You know I never have and I never will.
Starting point is 01:12:46 It's around the bucket or nothing. What are you been? What are you been watching? Well, we watch similar things. I watched Batman Nightfall Part 1, Nightfall. Animated. Animated. Interesting.
Starting point is 01:12:55 Who's the voice of Batman currently? It is Anson Mount. Oh, okay. And Michael Mando is Bain. Bain. So what I liked about this, what's an hour 15. My son loved it as well.
Starting point is 01:13:05 We watched it together. I was like, oh, I'm going to buy him this run. But it's like three volumes in the first pages. First one is like 950 pages. Yeah, because it wasn't just the mainline story.
Starting point is 01:13:15 It was everything. Yeah. And it was a new one, it was Batman Detective Comics. Yeah, I was like, oh, maybe I won't do this. But anyway,
Starting point is 01:13:21 so it's like a very condensed version of leading up to Batman getting his back broken in the comic from memory and you'd be able to tell me this. It happens over a series of months where he gets worn down because all the archimms asylum prisoners are out.
Starting point is 01:13:32 Correct, yes. But this happens over like three or four days. Okay, yeah. But what I did like about it, or a number of things, is that it's a big Tim Drake story. Yeah. So, and there's a lot of that in the movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:48 There's a sequence where Tim Drake gets kidnapped by Bain to be killed to push Batman over the edge. I'm going to kill you to push Batman over the edge. That's right. And so it's Tim Drake like versus Bain for a bit. and it's like, this is horrifying. Yeah, right. But it's, it's very gory.
Starting point is 01:14:06 You see like eye gouges and... That's not in the comic books. That's not in the comic books. And there's a bunch of as real stuff in it as whatever. Yeah, yeah. Interesting era. Very. I was a lot, yeah, because I'm, I was super heavily in the comics when it came out originally.
Starting point is 01:14:20 And yeah, like I've said to you, I, there's been a lot of Tim Drake erasure. Yeah. Because they've taken, because Tim Drake was the era where they changed from the short pants robin suit to the, the cool suit with the long pants and the black cape and the staff and etc. And all his attributes have sort of been distributed over. Yeah. When they adapt any kind of media, when they go, actually, when Dick Grayson first Robin was Robin, he had that suit kind of thing.
Starting point is 01:14:46 And he had the staff and whatever. So it's kind of like, keep Dick Grayson and Jason Todd in the stupid outfit with the shorts when you adapted and give Tim Drake, you know, the cool, the cool stuff and the cool hair. I was reading the comments on this. A lot of people are like, yeah, they should do more with Tim Drake. Yeah. And I agree. Because also, like, Damien Wayne is like, it's probably the default Robin now at this point.
Starting point is 01:15:07 Yeah, so now in the comics it seems to be a lot of times it's Damian Wayne, except if Damien Wayne's not available, then just Tim Drake is Robin again. He's just like, well, I'll suit up, I guess. Yeah, I'll do it, whatever, whatever. I love it. Because Tim Drake, for people, I'm sure, you know, plenty of comic readers would be aware, you know. Yeah. There's been a bunch of different Robbins.
Starting point is 01:15:27 Dick Grayson became Nightwing. Yep. Jason became Red Hood. Dead. Dead. Then Red Hood. Damien Wayne is currently Robin. Stephanie Brown is one of the bat girls.
Starting point is 01:15:36 Tim Drake didn't really get an alternate. He hasn't evolved even though there's a, even though Damien Wayne is Robin now. He hasn't moved on from Robin to something else. No. They've tried it. He was Red Robin. He was Drake. There was some other stuff.
Starting point is 01:15:50 But he's reverted back to Robin. Drake sucks. Yeah. Everyone hates Drake. You know, and I think it genuinely is because they nailed that version of Robin. And you can't just go, well, let's. give him a new iconic thing. I think you could do so,
Starting point is 01:16:04 because his skill is, as terms of Robbins, is that he's a detective. He's the best detective. So maybe you do that, maybe he becomes a cop, I don't know. You give him a deer stock hat
Starting point is 01:16:12 and a big magnifying class. Yeah, and you could say, now you're the real Sherlock Holmes. Yeah, that's right. And he's a client, you do that.
Starting point is 01:16:19 Yeah, yeah. Your Sherlock clones. That's all, very good. What do you think about that, Mason? It's good. It is good.
Starting point is 01:16:25 It's good. And a good idea is, it's a free idea. It's a free idea. It's not free. It's a free idea. It's not free. It's my idea.
Starting point is 01:16:31 Okay. Well, take it up with the Sherlock Holmes estate. I won't, Mason. Okay. Anyway, worth a watch, I think. It also does adopt some of the 90s aesthetic of that era. But how much of it, though? I would have liked to have been more.
Starting point is 01:16:46 Yeah. Well, the Batman cap is like it's got the... It's got the long ears and whatever. Yeah. And Bain is like terrifying. Yeah. That is the downfall of the DC animated movies, is they all default to the DC House style.
Starting point is 01:16:58 Yeah. Which was not... Was it normal? Bray Fogel was the artist at the time. Probably. I couldn't tell you even if I wanted to, which I don't. One of the best. Should we move to the next segment of the show?
Starting point is 01:17:07 Yes, we should. It's called lettuce. I love the lettuce segment. I talk about it every day. I tell everybody. Name one person. That I've spoken to or just name eight person? Name one person.
Starting point is 01:17:16 That's all I'm asking you to do. Bleep this out, Collings. Interesting. Interesting choice of a name just of someone we know. Very interesting choice. Play the letters name. Okay, I'll do it. The classic one was,
Starting point is 01:17:33 Letters, oh, letters, we love you. I think it was a good choice of names. I agree. It's the name we often do. He's quite the character, and he's got a funny name. Mason, if you do want to reach this show, and I do. You can go into the Planet Broadcasting Greatmates Group,
Starting point is 01:17:51 and there's a thread every week, or you can send an email to weekly planet pod at gmail.com. That's right. And Mason will read your email. His name are from Matthew. Matthew. Stop what you're doing, go watch It Ends. Hello, boys.
Starting point is 01:18:03 Big year for liminal spaces, exate backrooms, and now It Ends. If you haven't watched it ends yet, you really should. It's a movie for the times. Oh, wait, so the trailer for this. It looks good. It certainly resonates with young people like you guys, that's true, just on the cusp of losing the wonder of youth and being confronted with the real world.
Starting point is 01:18:17 Also, it has a big road in it. Yeah, it does have a big road. Maybe we'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Maybe we can do it next week. Is it out, anywhere? Don't know. Maybe it's on streaming. I can't see it on streaming, but maybe we'll use a V-Rodels. VPN and streaming to wherever else it is in the world.
Starting point is 01:18:32 Okay. Yeah, no, I saw the trailer for It End. So it's basically it's on a road trip and the road is seemingly infinite. Which is weird because the movie's called It Ends. Yeah, it should be called It Doesn't End. It's a long road that goes forever. Should be called the long and winding row. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:18:50 We're on the same wavelength. We are on the same wavelength because we're best friends. Is that the whole letter? I've searched for It Ends. Sorry, there are no movies that match your search. Well, you didn't search very well, did you, Mason? Guess we're never seeing it. That is the whole email for that.
Starting point is 01:19:04 Yeah, that's just a reminder for us. We've got to track it down. I mean, loving these liminal space movies. Mason, what is it about younger people in their liminal spaces, James? Oh, because they know that they're doomed. Sorry, they're just like, oh, I'm never going to be. Oh, I was, what if I lived in an infinite space? Yeah, yeah, you would have lived or what if I'm, yeah, good luck.
Starting point is 01:19:22 What have I lived in an infinite space and there was an in-ground pool? Yeah, good luck. Good luck, idiots. Good luck, you backrooms, idiots. Man, you're not even... You're not even... You'd be in there and you'd lose your mind
Starting point is 01:19:33 You'd get spooky time Oh, it could never be able to afford a house What if I got in a car and I drove And the road went forever Oh yeah, nice one Yeah, great Really clever Yeah, run out of petrol
Starting point is 01:19:42 See the price of petrol You're stupid idiot Yeah man What are you gonna eat pine cones You're stupid idiot What are you gonna what are you gonna fuel the car up With scrolling On your phone
Starting point is 01:19:51 Is that what you're gonna do? Is that what you're gonna do? Is it? Anyway, I'm enjoying it We're making fun of you we are because you have it rough and you're not
Starting point is 01:20:00 it's tough love yeah if anything we're helping you out I think so we're encouraging you we're energizing you that's right
Starting point is 01:20:07 you stupid idiots Mason Eli says are you fellas familiar I mentioned this earlier and I mentioned because of this familiar with the surf Dracula tweet so do you want to
Starting point is 01:20:18 quickly explain that one of the most you know one of the foundational texts the idea someone said and I'm paraphrasing I can
Starting point is 01:20:27 no paraphrasing is that back in the olden days if there was a show called Surf Dracula Surf Dracula would be surfing in every episode but in a modern day version of Surf Dracula he wouldn't be Surf Dracula until the final, then he would finally get his surfboard So that's, I mean, it's not always accurate
Starting point is 01:20:44 but I would say like the first season of Netflix Daredevil was that he didn't get that. Madam Webb is Surf Dracula. I saw something recently somebody said it was a little Surf Dracula. Mortal Kombat 2020. Oh yeah, you don't get the Mortal Kombat to leave at all. Some people have suggested
Starting point is 01:21:00 Dead Devil Season 1 Yeah, some people suggested Lanterns is going to be Well, that's what this is about Is it's going to be a Serf Dracula But I don't think it is because things have been happening Yeah, it says do you think lanterns is falling into that trope? My brother and I disagree with each other
Starting point is 01:21:14 Need someone to settle this. Cheers. Well, we don't know Because we've only seen two in time of recording Oh, this is also Lantern's discussion time We're going to talk about last time. Get ready for it. Spoilers for lanterns.
Starting point is 01:21:25 Spoilers for Lantons. I don't feel like it's going that way. Which we're a week behind. That's right. Because by the time this comes out, episode three of lanterns will be out. And by the time of recording, only episode two is out. Yes. So like in the last episode...
Starting point is 01:21:36 I hope this is infuriating for everybody. Agreed. In the last week, he put on the lantern suit and went to visit Sinestra, which is what... This is how Jordan did. How Jordan did. Yes. You know, so, you know, I think we... You know, so that means we've already...
Starting point is 01:21:47 We're not going to see the costume in the last episode. That's right. So... Also, I think... Let me ask you this question. Do you think they desaturated the colors in the trailer to the lantern suit? Because it's more green now. Or do you think...
Starting point is 01:21:59 Or they think they jazzed it up. Or they think they jazzed it up for the episode because I know people were very critical of how brown at all. I mean, I think it always probably is what it is.
Starting point is 01:22:06 Yes. Yeah. Smallville. That's a surfed Dracula. That's a surf... Hell of a serf, in a pre-surfed Dracula era. I'm just in a Reddit thread.
Starting point is 01:22:13 Preacher the TV show, yep. Mention Daredevil. Someone saying Superman didn't do that. But also this is not... The thing about lanterns is we have a pre-exist... It's like if surfed Dracula,
Starting point is 01:22:24 it was already a pre-existing surf Dracula. Yes. If Surf Dracula was two character tracks, one guy who wanted to become Surf Dracula and was learned to become Sirf Dracula and at the end he gets the Surf Dracula surfboard. But there was also a guy who was already Sirf Dracula and he would and he'd already mastered the Surf Dracula surfboard. That's what Lantern's is.
Starting point is 01:22:44 Yeah, okay. Yeah, you're right. He's not learning. No. I mean, if we, if we, if we're, exactly, like if they want to have Hal Jordan make a big green boxing glove and punch a guy and a pickup truck. in a space or whatever, he can do it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:59 But they just, they're not, he's not a guy who can't do it. Yeah. They're, they're kind of, this is the deliberate narrative. He feels like the kind of guy also that he do, do the bare minimum of green. He doesn't need to do a big showy thing because he's. Let's, let's do some episode two, Lantern talk. Again, I love the, in the first episode, uh, Hal got angry that that alien guy was, was mocking him with the oath.
Starting point is 01:23:22 Yeah. But in this one, he's like, I've done this like 5,000 times at this point. Oh, we used to read him. So he's just to speed through it to recharge his ring. I thought it was very funny. This was a very, I liked that he sent John Stewart away on an errand. Yes. Like maybe it wasn't deliberate.
Starting point is 01:23:37 Like maybe it wasn't a, maybe he didn't deliberately leave his lantern, you know, back in his house. But just the idea he's like, I'm going to get rid of John Stewart's. I'll get him to do this kind of thing. And it's interesting because also having them separate. And did I see this? Because there is a official podcast or whatever you can listen to. Not as good as us. No, I agree.
Starting point is 01:23:57 Where they have to, so the interaction that they have over the phone, they have to relay information to each other. Like they're forced to do that. Whereas the in person, he's just like, I don't know, fuck off. Like, you know what I mean? But we need to get to, we get a little, it seems like this current episode, which, episode three, we're going to, the backstory of John Stewart's going to be revealed.
Starting point is 01:24:17 Yes. And it's going to, wasn't going to be that his dad was Green Lantern. It's that he was chosen to be Green Lantern. Okay. As a baby. Oh, okay. Yeah. So like the guardians or whatever.
Starting point is 01:24:27 they're called, we'll get one of our own guys. We'll train one up. We're not just going to get some loose a unit. Right, right, right. It's a reaction to how Jordan just doing whatever he's wanted to do for 30 years. Yeah, right. Assume so. So the biggest question, of course, of episode two is that we reveal that, you know,
Starting point is 01:24:44 John Stewart learns that the mysterious manhunters, who we as an audience who've read comic books know were created by the guards of the universe, their robots. One of them nearly wiped out an alien civilization. and then Abin-Sir, who was the previous possessor of the Green Lantern Ring, they promised they were going to get rid of this Manhunter, but instead they put it on a ship and they sent it across the universe, but the ship crashed landed on Earth. So now there's a Manhunter on Earth,
Starting point is 01:25:12 and the aliens want to discover who the Manhunter is, and if they can't figure out who it is, because it could be anybody, and it's been on Earth for 30 years. Yeah, it seems like that's the reason Abin-Serk crashed as well, So these aliens are going to wipe out probably an entire state of the US and everybody in it unless they figure out who the Manhunter is. Because it can be killed because when it's a person, it's got the physiology of the person. Yeah, right, right.
Starting point is 01:25:37 And so they had, so now, and then John Stewart has learned this and he's in a, I think a rare twist for this sort of show, he's immediately told Hal Jordan, the deal. And so they have to figure out who the Manhunter is in the weird town full of weirdos in time. And so. Where a bunch of them are also made from. by the Manhunter so they're sleeper agents well maybe maybe well maybe the whole town is
Starting point is 01:26:00 well here's the thing so the the the suspects I think in order one would be it's the mysterious benefactor whoever has got the the Macon family this plot of land yeah and has you know set them up as you know these wealthy well-to-do you know the farmer landowners yeah that's who it is we don't know who it is yet that's the manhunter I don't think maybe bought the real estate early you know when it was cheap the one thing the one person I
Starting point is 01:26:25 don't think it is is Kerry Kane who's also from Gotham. Well see, that's the thing. I don't think it's her either. Maybe it's a trick, but she seems the most normal person. She seems the most normal person. She also is a back. But maybe that's the trick.
Starting point is 01:26:35 She also has a backstory as mentioned she isn't in Gotham. She had a conversation with the commissioner over the phone in episode one. She could be related to Kate Kane. She could be. But also, she has a backstory that she maintains even though when she knows
Starting point is 01:26:49 no one is looking at her. Oh, that's the key, I think. And it's, you know, I mean, that is not uncommon. for a character. Yeah. If we've seen the movie now, you see me. Mark Ruffalo's character.
Starting point is 01:27:01 Keeps up that he's mad at the magicians, even though he's one of them. Spoiler. He knows about watching. Yeah, yeah, that's true. So I don't think it's her. It could be another member of the Macon family. It could be the guy's wife, Zoe.
Starting point is 01:27:13 Sure. It could be Jason Ritter, just because I think that would be funny. That would be funny, yeah. Because he's the most goofy and unassuming of all of them. Does that mean he had a kid with the sheriff? Yeah, okay. Or was he replaced after that?
Starting point is 01:27:27 Yeah. Or when you mentioned... It's definitely someone we've seen, right? It's not going to be... Well, no, I think it could be the not seen yet benefactor. Oh, okay. I mentioned... Yeah, I should say, mentioned.
Starting point is 01:27:38 But of course, as you said, it could be everybody in the town except for the sheriff. Yeah. Because the manhunter's had time to remove and replace everybody, as pointed out by the fact that when Hal Jordan gets shot and he goes in the hospital, there's nobody there. There's nobody there and all the equipment's unused. Because Manhattaners wouldn't need it. There's also that moment where he goes and... the meeting and they all stop.
Starting point is 01:27:56 Yeah. In a very odd way. Yeah. Because they were probably just going rubub, rubub, rubub, rubub, rubub, rubub, rubub, rubub, rubub, rubub. Except Cald McDonnell's who's real. Yeah, she's like, stop it. Stop doing that. Well, she might be, she might be in the position where she knows everybody is not real,
Starting point is 01:28:13 but she can't, she's sort of trapped. Yeah. So that's interesting. Stuff that I really enjoyed in this episode. The bird. The bird is fun. Yep. That's really good.
Starting point is 01:28:21 Good action sequence on the car on the train. Yeah. I thought there might have been a bit. moment where John Stewart's running on the highway and the bird is there, then he might have grabbed the bird and took flight with the bird. It's flown him to say that would have looked too silly? I think that it would have looked very soon. You're doing it like a two little finger pitch. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know if he's got the upper body strength. No, no. Yeah, I love the fact that Hal has this, this, oh, there's also a bunch of background pictures.
Starting point is 01:28:47 Oh, yeah, was with the cast of Harry Potter and several presidents and stuff like that. I thought that was fun. It seemed like there was a point where he did enjoy the limelight and. Yeah. Being a green lanternman now is just... But he's also, as Carly McDonald pointed out, he's got no family or close connections or anything. His house is empty. He's just walking around, seemingly. He's just walking around an empty house.
Starting point is 01:29:07 But yeah, that John Stewart has, you know, this incredible capacity to operate the green lantern ring. He can create a construct with it that has sentience or it can operate on its own. And then when he takes the ring off, it sticks around. Yeah. And I love the fact that something has been pointed out about this show is that it doesn't have the Netflix dialogue.
Starting point is 01:29:25 No, it doesn't, yeah. As a reminder, don't you know that the... If in the Netflix version of this... In the Netflix version where it's just focused on necks, somebody would be like, wow, you can do that, and that's actually incredible. And I've never seen anybody do that before my life creating the thing or whatever. But I love the fact that Hal Jordan is clearly stunned by this,
Starting point is 01:29:49 but he's just like, I'm not going to give this guy the satisfaction. That he can do anything good at all. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. And then it ends with Sinestro as well, which I think it's going to be varied. When he says he's the second most dangerous. He means John Stewart. Do you reckon? Yes. Again, I'm not Parallax. I don't care about Parallax. Nobody's saying you'd have to care about Parallax. But I feel like he's run across Parallet. I mean, he gets he likes Parallax, doesn't he?
Starting point is 01:30:12 I don't think he's met Parallax. I don't think that guys exist yet. Isn't the yellow thing? Isn't that parallax related? What yellow thing? The Yellow Lantern thing? Yeah, but it is, but that was a redcon. Been the movie. in everything. So, Sinestro's first appearance... Sinestro starts out as a green lantern
Starting point is 01:30:30 and then initially he's got the only yellow lantern ring. And that's cool, cool. But it wasn't parallax related. He went to the anti-matter universe. Get out of there. And these guys called the anti-matter, the weapon ears of quad, from the antimatter universe of quad,
Starting point is 01:30:43 they gave him the yellow lantern ring. Because back in the olden days, Greenlandt had a vulnerability to yellow. So it's just like, I'll use the weapon. I'll use the one weapon they're vulnerable against. And then only later, the yellow lantern... It became the fear. They became the Sinestro core, yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:56 Okay. Initially it was unrelated. It was just yellow versus grain, which I think is more important and cool. Why would you say John Stewart is the most dangerous? Because he can do the thing. He can do that. He's clearly got the willpower. He's got the willpower and he's got this incredible ability to operate the ring.
Starting point is 01:31:11 Well, I think everybody should shoot apples off their children's side. I think so too. And again, I do think the idea that somebody is going to attempt to manipulate him to... Yeah. It seems like they're trying to get their own... Yeah. They're going to replace it with a person. can control.
Starting point is 01:31:25 Yeah, and potentially, and Hal is clearly pushing towards like you need to stop respecting this authority and question it because some, you've been, you've been trained to, this is the, this is your goal, this is the pinnacle of the thing you need to do, but you need to realize that that is going to. And that also applies to Hal Jordan himself. Yeah. Because he doesn't, because he's like, he's not a very good mentor and he seems to be doing it on purpose.
Starting point is 01:31:48 Yeah, absolutely. And the idea, I think that potentially somebody's manipulating this whole situation to give the power ring to somebody who will then use it, you know, for evil means, perhaps not realizing that. Yeah. They want John Stewart as a controllable kind of weapon slash asset. Yeah. So that's the danger, that he, that he's going to have the most ability with his ring and then somebody, either the guardians or the man hunters or what have you, are going to turn
Starting point is 01:32:13 him to like, you know, just destroy some stuff for us, you know? Yeah, absolutely. Make some killer birds. Dude, that'd be cool. It'd be cool as hell. Anyway, that's lanterns talk for last week's episode of lanterns. Look forward to this week's episode of Lanterns next week. We should make a lot of incredibly bold claims
Starting point is 01:32:29 that people can fact-check in real time as they watch the new episode of it. Ryan Reynolds will be in episode 3. That's right. Oh, Guy Gardner's going to be in the next episode, I think. Yes, he is. And Ryan Reynolds. So we're going to learn, I think. How we got the ring, I guess.
Starting point is 01:32:40 Or what the deal is. What ring is that even? What ring is that even? What ring is it even? That was a section of the show called What Ring is that even? That's real. Do you have another email? I do have another email?
Starting point is 01:32:51 Just read it out. from Jack. Just get on with it. Question for the pod. Letter segment, please. Letters. Hello, boys. It's Jack here,
Starting point is 01:32:58 the manman who likes Tom Cruise of the Mummy. Well. Jack, we remember you and we don't like it. With the sad passing of Tim Curry, I was thinking about Muppets' Treasure Island. I questioned if the Muppets did another film, what would you like it to be? I'm assuming some sort of...
Starting point is 01:33:10 What's hot? What's hot and currently... The Limminal spaces. The Muppets in Liminal Spaces. And there's twisted versions of the Muppets? Twisted versions of the Muppets. And they're called the... The puppets.
Starting point is 01:33:23 No, no. The gruppets. The gruppets. There we go. There we go. God, I mean, what else is hot? They just had a new scary movie movie. Yep, they sure did.
Starting point is 01:33:34 And that's hot. That is hot stuff. Yeah. Glenn Powell? That's hot. So the Muppets, but they're Glenn Powell? The Muppets, but they're friends with Glenn Powell. Okay.
Starting point is 01:33:43 Yeah. The trailer Brothers with Woody Harrelson and whatever. And they're really brother, whatever. Oh, okay. Yep. themselves. Do you know what I'm talking about? What we could do is we could get a confirmed,
Starting point is 01:33:56 we can get a Muppet, we confirm how tall the Muppet is, and then we hire Glenn Powell, and then we know, then we know for sure how tall Glenn Powell is. This is good, and then we'll know. We figure out how tall the snuffle uppigus is to the millimeter. Let me just Google Glenn Powell and Dan. Stevens? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:11 Glenn Powell versus, oh, next to Dan Stevens. Very good. I bet they've been in something together. No. No, nothing standing together. I will. Fucking. Okay.
Starting point is 01:34:22 You know what we do? We get Glenn Powell hired as a character who's like an executive at OCP. And then there has to be a sequence where they stand next to each other. And then we know. We have to know. We have to know, Mason. We got to know. I have to know.
Starting point is 01:34:38 Jack says he'd like to see a Mission Impossible movie where Kermit teams up with Tom Cruise. I mean, that would be cool. Tom Cruise would have a hell of a time. Yeah. Wouldn't he? Yes, he would have a hell of a time. He'd be like, this is movie. Magic.
Starting point is 01:34:49 These are puppets. I love this. This one, right? Like, yeah. Yeah. He would love that. He would love that. That is an amazing sequence.
Starting point is 01:34:55 Tom Cruise is normal. He is normal, I think so too. Justin says, you're all going to review Cody V. Acme? I hope so. Yeah. When it comes out here. Will it be too late?
Starting point is 01:35:03 Yeah, will it be on streaming by then? Maybe. We're here for the art. Will it be available on Torrance before it's available in Australia, therefore completely tanking its box office? Yes, it will. I would still like to see it in cinema as regards.
Starting point is 01:35:13 Me too. But nothing but good things. I hear it's the best one. Of all the live action animated ones. Really? Better than New Farm Roger Rabbit? Better than that movie? Maybe it's better than that.
Starting point is 01:35:21 Maybe it is. Okay. Maybe it is. What else you got, Mason? Um, there's an email from Robbie. Robbie Williams. Uh, no. Just says Robbie. I like the song Better Man. He says he doesn't care for it.
Starting point is 01:35:33 Well, that's not... Shut up, man. And he says you shut up? No, you shut up. He says, no, you shut up. No, no takebacks. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:44 Well, we really got you, didn't he? He did. Damn, Robbie's good. I didn't think he was going to get me, but he... I mean, he... He anticipated everything you had to say. Because I was saying shut up and then he said you shut up. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 01:35:54 All the full two dead points out next week. I'm just checking what's up. What about whale fail? I do want to see whale fail. When's that out? God, we love movies here, don't we? We love movies over here at the Weekl Planet podcast, don't we? Go on, Mason.
Starting point is 01:36:05 Anyway, Robbie says, long time, the first time caller. He says shut up. That's October. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area, but now, live in L.A., working in show business next week on September the 10th or 11th for you guys. Never forget. My hometown San Francisco 49ers will play the Los Angeles. Rams in the first NFL game in Australia.
Starting point is 01:36:24 Oh, yes, that's right. As someone living in LA, I can only assume this is happening because any time the Rams come to Los Angeles, they overwhelm the home fans inside the stadium making a de facto 49ers home game. Okay. Oh, I see. Sorry, he means when the 49ers come to San.
Starting point is 01:36:41 No, it's not important. I'm not figuring this out. Well, it sounds like he spent too much time figuring out how to insult me perfectly, and the rest of the email is nonsense. Yeah. Yeah, and he says that's worth it. He says it's worth it for some of this email being nonsense,
Starting point is 01:36:57 as long as he put James in his place. He fully got me again just now. Yeah, I know, this guy's good. Yeah, you know what's out next week? Onslaught. Oh, what's that again? It's a sequel to the guest sort of. And it's like a super soldier's and she kills him much later.
Starting point is 01:37:12 Oh, that's right, okay. Hopefully that. It says it's out, but I can't see any streaming. James, I'm going to say this. Feels like fake movie. No, real movie. It feels like a fake movie. Apparently it's good.
Starting point is 01:37:21 All right. All right. Anyway, so the Rams definitely jumped at the idea of hosting that game and another continent to get away from being embarrassed at home again, is what he's saying. My question, how much advertising marketing promo has been there been for this game? I don't know what you're talking about. I don't know this at all. There's an NFL game being played in Australia. Two teams from America are flying to Australia.
Starting point is 01:37:43 No, I understand. No, sorry, I understand the concept, but as in before this, I'd never heard of this. Huh. I'd seen... I mean, you're in the city, though. You're a city boy. I only know this because there's on one of the tram stops. There's a little notification.
Starting point is 01:37:57 It's like we're moving. We're changing the tram routes or whatever for this NFL game. And I'm like, huh, that's interesting. And I think this affects me and I don't like it. Honestly, the first few times I read it, I went, but that must be an NRL game. But it's not. I've not seen any advertising for this. That's interesting.
Starting point is 01:38:11 But you are, we are talking about it. We're doing the advertising. Are Ozzy's excited about it or indifferent? I don't know because I don't talk to anyone on. No. I know some people that watch the NFL, but it's, mostly just gambling related. Oh, absolutely.
Starting point is 01:38:24 They're just, because I know someone also who, like, quit gambling and then was like, I thought I was interested in all these different sports, but I wasn't. It was just the gambling part. Yeah, yeah, I'm just interested in losing fistfuls of money in five seconds.
Starting point is 01:38:36 Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, no, it's not something that we care about in Australia, generally. Yeah. We are sports mad. And we love American stuff.
Starting point is 01:38:45 We love American stuff. Except if you ask some people, they'll be like, oh, Americans. But then I'm like, what are you like? What about all the media you consume? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:53 Well, that's different. That's different, actually. Yeah, well. Mason, I've got a letter. Yes. It's from Caleb. Oh, yes. He says,
Starting point is 01:38:59 any of you lads checking out Star Wars Zero Company. XCOM 2 is one of my all-time favorite. I've been sinking all my free time into it since release. I highly recommend if you're into turn-based strategy. I was thinking of getting this. I'll probably wait until it cools off a bit. Can I get it on my phone? No.
Starting point is 01:39:13 Then no, I'm not checking it. Can I get an amen? Amen, brother. Can I get a hell yeah. Hell yeah, brother. I'm currently playing Star Wars Episode 1, Racer. It's true, yeah. They'd burn them my way through those.
Starting point is 01:39:23 Seemingly against no one, because I see you playing that. I came in the other days. Because I'm winning. I'm so good. And according to James, he was so far ahead, there were no other races on the track. Just an empty track that he kept whizzing around. It's mostly an empty track.
Starting point is 01:39:35 And I said, why don't you slow down a little bit, and maybe they can catch up and you went, nah, nah. But sometimes, because I'm doing some of the harder tracks now. Yes. I'm seeing them. I just got beaten by Jake Lloyd on a track. And I'm like, this is bullshit. And it can scott because it's not even supposed to be off Tadouin.
Starting point is 01:39:48 This doesn't make any sense. How did he even get here and beat me at this track? Great question. Anyway, that'll come up and never go back in a few weeks after I record it. But no, I don't mind turn-based stuff, and apparently this one's great. I loved X-com back in the day. Yeah. And I love that they're now doing different Star Wars games and they're giving them to different
Starting point is 01:40:07 companies and doing just a whole bunch of different stuff like they used to. Because for a while EA had the license and it was exclusively EA-based games. And many of those were bad or okay. Not even. That and they weren't, they didn't release any. There was like, one of you like three years. Yeah, right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:40:24 Oh, that's right. That was the deal. That was the dark times, mostly. Dark times. Mm-hmm. Dark times. All right, should we move it along to the end of the show? Let's move it along to the end of the show.
Starting point is 01:40:34 We're moving it along and it's the end of the show. And here it is, folks. Thank you so much for listening. We absolutely appreciate it. Thank you for telling your friends about the podcast. That isn't anywhere. Is how we get new listeners. Nobody cares about your fake movie that you're trying to push.
Starting point is 01:40:44 It's a real movie that I want to watch. It's a fake poster and a fake trailer. No. You fake-ass faker. No, Mason. Fake-ass faker. Don't say that to me. You're welcome.
Starting point is 01:40:56 Where was I? Thank you for listening. Thank you for telling your friends about the podcast. You were going to know this. Exactly. Thank you for leaving a five-star review on your app of choice. James will find it. He'll read it right out.
Starting point is 01:41:06 You'll become famous in a segment that nobody listens to the end of the podcast. This is called the TSD Tom from the USA. Email in if you listen to the podcast all the way to the end. Email in. Email in. Let us know. in the end was going to be a secret code word at the end. That's right. TSD, Tom says they finally did it.
Starting point is 01:41:22 They reviewed Novakane. I can die happy. Didn't we view it when it come out? Oh, it was later, because maybe it wasn't released here. Man, this is later. Yeah. And JSC Inc. What's all those three letter, money, things, whatever? From Canada says, the one podcast to rule them all. That's a Lord of the Ring reference, Mason.
Starting point is 01:41:36 I don't get it. Been listening to the podcast for almost 10 years and never had an episode I didn't love. That's great. First time for everything. I'm the Tom Bombadale. Look at my boots. Look at my beautiful boots. curly boots.
Starting point is 01:41:47 Big curly boots. I've never done it, but I assume listening to this is what cocaine feels like. Probably. I've also never done cocaine or listen to this because I'm in it. No, I have listened to it. You're in a big pile of cocaine recording this podcast. It's true. But you do not inhale.
Starting point is 01:42:02 It's next to the pee buckets. That's right. It's that cocaine you're always peeing on. That's right. Folks, if you want to contact this show, you've got a weekly planet pod. I do, Mason. At gmail.com. Or you can go to the Planet Broadcasting Greatmates Facebook group or the weekly

I'm not going to use it, but I might be coming back. Will you use it for crypto scams?
Starting point is 01:42:43 Ah, yes. Okay, well, check, listeners, check out. Why am I not allowed to do crypto scams on Twitter, but everybody else can't. It's interesting, right? Bullshit. What do I do?
Starting point is 01:42:51 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Can't even do one scam one time? No, you're on coffeezilla's radar. He's going to get you. I'm so scared. Oh, guy who could look into all my financials and, like, dissolve my entire network of, like, crap that I'm doing.
Starting point is 01:43:02 I'm so scared. You seem scared. I am scared. You are peeing yourself right now. I know. I miss the bucket. Sorry, go on. Let's see.
Starting point is 01:43:11 I miss the bucket because I peed straighter to my pets. That's terrific. What were you saying about you peeing your pants too? I wasn't doing that. It's only you. I thought we're doing it together. We're not doing anything in solidarity.
Starting point is 01:43:21 Damn, well, anyway. Let me just... I'm sucking it back out. He's reabsorbed the bee. Wow, he's not afraid anymore. No. Wow.
Starting point is 01:43:29 This is like the end of Transformers the movie. Except instead of using the matrix of leadership to transform an erod of his prime, you're magically reabsorving the pee. Your fear pee into your body and becoming the biggest pee-filled man.
Starting point is 01:43:42 And I think that's beautiful. Beautiful. Thank you, Mason. Now he has transformed in an RV though. That's weird. He's doing donuts? It's not important.
Starting point is 01:43:50 Stop narrating things that I'm doing. Just let me get on with it. You're distracting me. Fine. If you want to support this story, you can go to Patreon.com slash Mr. Sunny Movies. You go to big sandwich.

We'll watch a fake TV show and or a fake TV show and or movie. Right. All right. Don't forget to watch our Resident Evil Cavana Garbage. It's the fourth one this week.
Starting point is 01:44:48 The last one did so well, and I don't know why. Because it's the best one. Well, it ranks you like, it gives you like the last 10 YouTube videos that you did and how well they did. And it's like 50,000 more than Space Jam 2 at this point. I don't know why this one. Like, does anyone remember Resident Evil extinction? Is it the Thumbedale? It must be the thumbnail.
Starting point is 01:45:10 It sounds bizarre. Wow. Well. Anyways, thanks, everyone. Well. Oh, code word at the end. The code word is podcasting. Nice.
Starting point is 01:45:19 Nice. Bye, everyone. Bye, grab that jammy guys. We'll see next week. Podcasting. Nice.
