Starting point is 00:00:02 Welcome back everybody to another episode of the weekly planet where we talk movies and comics and TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday. With me, as always, is Nick Mason. It's great to be here. It's great to be. What a great day to be here. We're having a great day with the Great Day and we're brought running in. You can't see it, but...
Starting point is 00:00:20 Because it's dead. You'd be able to see it otherwise. Yeah, and that would be unappealing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, we would show you. Anyway, good start. Great start. Bring up dead dogs, I think.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Dead dogs and it's a real dead dogs, not a dog. It's really upsetting. Why have we done this? I don't know. Yeah. So it's just word association a lot of the time. I just want to say we as well because we did this together. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:00:41 We planned it out. We said, how can we start off a podcast about movies and TV shows and sometimes comic books? Yeah. And sometimes video games and sometimes video game adaptations. How can we start it off with a bang in a way that people will not find off-putting? And we said, dead dogs? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:56 One dead dog. One dead dog. Let's imagine a dead dog. No, it's real. We brought it in. Yeah. Together. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:01 Directed off the wrong. Well, Mason, you mentioned video game movies. Yes, I did. Am I talking about one of the most well-received ones of all time? For now. For now, exactly. We'll see how that goes. Before the review bombs start from us.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Yeah, that's right. I'd rather have a dead dog in this. Maybe there is one. That's something you like, though. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I haven't had time to see Cody Vakami, so I do want to talk about next week. You have seen it, though. I've seen it.
Starting point is 00:01:26 I'd love to do a classic episode about a classic movie. It's classic because it was made like nine years ago or whatever. Oh, yeah, that's true. It's basically vintage at this point, isn't it? There is a 30 years later. There's a bit set, you know, in the past, and there's a thing that's like 30 years later. And I'm like, oh, yeah, so this movie's now set in 2022.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Oh, that's fun and good. So we're also talking about Zach Snyder's back, and he's got all sorts of opinions and things. Zach Snyder's back, Snyder? Back Snyder. Back Snyder. Including how he wants to adapt the Dark Knight returns. Interesting, interesting thing that you'd want to adapt.
Starting point is 00:02:02 Again. Superman fighting Batman. And other stuff, but mostly the Superman and Batman fighting. And the gun stuff. The gun stuff, I guess. Yeah, yeah. But also his latest movie, The Last Photograph has screened. And the reviews are not great.
Starting point is 00:02:15 We've talked a bit about that as well. Got some Superman News, Mason. Oh, yes. We've got some Lantern Season 2 potential news or maybe a movie news. Oh. And then we've got some Tom Cruise News. Tom Cruise News. You know, because he's out doing media at the moment.
Starting point is 00:02:31 He's doing media. He's doing weird media, isn't he? Like the Tom Cruise of old. I would say, I would say if you pick an interview he's done in the last week or so, and if you would describe it, I'd say evasive. Yeah. Weirdly evasive, constantly. What is he even doing?
Starting point is 00:02:50 I don't know. I have theories and we'll talk about it. But also, he's allowed to be evasive. Yeah. But like. But I mean, if you're going to be absolutely evasive in every interview, why are you doing the interviews? Because it's funny.
Starting point is 00:03:02 It is funny. It's funny. It's funny. Yeah. And I am reading all those interviews because I'm like, what's he not going to say this time? I started to listen to some and I'm like... Oh, that's your first mistake. Yeah, I'm like, this is nothing. Yeah, 100%.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Also, if you notice... This is like eating a bag of wind that came out of a dead dog. Good. Bring it back. Bring it back to the dead dog. I think that's important. That can be the running bit. Imagine a dead dog. This will be good for all the listeners who have lost...
Starting point is 00:03:32 I've got a really old dog. Why am I doing this? I don't know. Not the dead one. I have an actual dog. Yeah. Yeah. Anyways. Also, I was going to say listeners, if throughout this podcast you're thinking, perhaps they're pausing, you know, a little too long between sentences, that is because we're both deadlocked on, our eyes are locked on the podcasting board we use that has repeatedly failed on us today.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Today. And we lost a bunch of stuff we recorded. So we're now just going to be staring out. it going. Yeah. Hope it doesn't switch off. Hope it doesn't switch off. I think what are you saying?
Starting point is 00:04:06 Hope it doesn't switch off. I think now that it's going, we should be all right. Yeah. Yeah, but that's a thing to say. I'm going to replace this though. Okay. With a man who can recount our tails.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Old school, I like it. Like a bard of some sort. And then they killed the dog or the dog was already dead. They just dragged it off the road. Where it was hit by yon cart. Not a car. Old timey. Cart.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Yeah. Anyway, there's time codes below if you do want to jump to anything in particular. Let's start with this, though, via variety. But you can't skip the dead dog stuff. That's going to be permeated through the whole. Yeah, this is pretty much. There's not going to be a recut of this where there's none of that in there. No, but unusable.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Unusable. But there might be a supercut of us just saying dead dog. That would be a 10-minute clip you could put on YouTube. Zach's not just spoke to Variety. They just ask him about like his views, like political and otherwise. talk about how, you know, people think I'm conservative, but 300 is one of the gayest movies ever made. No, it's not.
Starting point is 00:05:07 I always go, look, there are a few movies where people come in straight and come out gay, and 300 is one of them. I don't think that's true at all. I don't think you can... You're thinking of the mummy. You are thinking of the mummy, but also, I don't, you can't... Media doesn't make people gay. Correct, yes.
Starting point is 00:05:22 You are or you aren't. That's right. You might have a realization about random Fraser or Rachel Weiss, which is totally acceptable than a thing that's happened to all of us. Yeah. But I think that's really funny. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Also, he's like, I'm not going to.
Starting point is 00:05:36 People say I'm conservative, but I'm really not. But also, I'm very excited to be adapting Iron Rans of the Fountainhead, which I think he said during one of those interviews. You know what I think it is? I think he's just like, what do I think looks cool. Like, that's what I really think that he's still. I don't think he's like a horrible conservative guy. I bet he saw Megalopolis and he was like, man, I wish I directed that. There's no way he's.
Starting point is 00:06:01 I wish I had infinite money, an infinitely large budget, and no one to say no to me, and I just would have made megalopoulos. Yeah. So, as mentioned, his movie came out. It's called The Last Photograph, which is a, would you say slice of life? I don't know. I don't know anything about it. Is it about a Navy SEAL guy or something? I'll read you the synopsis, Mason.
Starting point is 00:06:24 So it's a 2026 film. We'll start there. That's this year. That's good. That's good. He's keeping it current, and I like that. An ex-D-A operative searches the South American Mountains for his missing niece and nephew after their parents are murdered. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:37 With help of a war photographer who witnessed the killers, he confronts his past as the journey blows the line between reality and the surreal. Oh. So this had like a much smaller budget than his normal fare. Okay. And, you know, what I think is interesting, and if you've seen the trailer, and if you know anything about this, which you now do from the synopsis, it is different than, you know, what he has been doing. Because Batman's not in it. Batman's not in it.
Starting point is 00:07:04 That's one of the things. Superman in it? I think Superman is in it. Interesting. That's probably the same. Wow. And he's like, this is your own thing, man. I don't deal with the last photograph.
Starting point is 00:07:13 I'm not dealing with the war crimes and the whatever. Tom King's not currently writing me. I'm not dealing with any of this. That's right. I'm not helping you get your vengeance or whatever. My photographer is Jimmy Olson, not whatever your name is. That's exactly right. Oh, he's dead.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Oh, he's dead. Nice. Nice, good, good continuity. That's in the movie. Yeah, it's not related. That's unrelated. But anyway, the reviews have been unfortunately scathing. THR said Zach Snyder tries indie filmmaking on for size with painfully ponderous results. The rap said a vile, ugly piece of work.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Wow. It's one of the worst films to ever screen at a major film festival running for 135 miserable minutes. It's a film... That's very Zach Snyder. It's a film as overstretched. Miserable Miner. As repetitive as it is undercooked.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Oh, yes. Sid Hunt, Adlaka, says, Zach's last photograph gestures at the idea of voyeurism, beauty and brutality coexisting, and the innate need to create, but ends up a plodding, ugly, racist, misogynistic revenge drama with no real characters and nothing to say. Wow.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Stunt Meg, Mike says, guys, I shit you're not, no her purbably. Hashtag, the last photograph is peak cinema. It's Man on Fire meets Terence Malik by way of Zach Snyder. It is one of the best gun battles, which I wish was a touch longer. And that's from Stunt Man Mike. That's right. The movie Death Proof.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Correct. A fictional character. Yep. And Screamman says, Zach Snyder's last prototype desperately wants to be profound, but it's pacing melodrama and self-seriousness make it unintentionally funny. I mean, look, because the vast movies he made were the Rebel Moon movies, and they were tough watch.
Starting point is 00:08:52 They really were. There was two of those, but there was technically four of those. Yeah, because there was extended, supercuts. With rudeness and boobness. And dead dogs. What? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Okay. Yeah. Anyway, so you also spoke about the Dark Night Returns, but she wants to adapt still. He said the reason, and the reason why it's the Dark Night returns. You've got to laugh. You've got to laugh. You're going to cry so much. The reason why it's the Dark Night returns, if anyone would ever let me do it outside of the
Starting point is 00:09:21 DC universe, since it's a novel that just happens to have superheroes in it, I don't think it is. I don't feel like, it doesn't feel like a novel that happens to have superheroes in it. No, it's quite specific. Yeah. Anyway, yeah. It's as if I could, as if I could do Watchman and then the Dark Night returns, those two books next to each other to me represent the complete cycle of superhero comic book medium.
Starting point is 00:09:44 That's just word salad. I don't even know that's true. I don't think that's true either. I mean, it's... It's some comic books. Yeah, it's some comic books. It's also like the same era of comic books. So, anyway.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Yeah. He says, you can do no more than those two books. Watchmen came at the beginning of the superhero movie phase, so it would be fitting to have the Dark Night Returns come now. And what I would say is possibly, and I don't want to call it the Twilight, but we're down the road of the superhero movie genre, and I think audiences would understand the why of it.
Starting point is 00:10:14 I mean, look, I understand the idea. Like, I guess... It was a cap on, like, a particular era of superheroes. And I guess if you went, okay, well, I guess if you, maybe if you went, okay, well, Tim Burton's Batman, that's where it started really. And then Dark Night Returns would be the end of that. Like you got Keaton back somehow. And then, of course, you get Henry Cavill as Superman.
Starting point is 00:10:40 I guess. But I mean, you're inventing a, I think you're inventing your own eras there. Yeah. Taylor Swift, inventing your own eras, which I think is something that she does somehow. She's somehow doing that. Yeah. That's cool, man. It's cool.
Starting point is 00:10:57 I think it's cool. Good for you, Zach's night. It's still being cool. And we're proud of you. We're proud of you and we forgive you. I am genuinely like, I want him to succeed and I'm sorry that if, I mean, you know, it's screened for critics. So who knows? Like I want him to make.
Starting point is 00:11:08 Yeah, I want him to make something. A bunch of biased meanies. They went in looking to hate him like we do. I don't hate him. No, I don't know. That's true. Yeah. I love some to none of his movies.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Yes, correct. Which ones do I like? You like Dawn of the Dead? I do. I like 300. I quite like Watchmen. I like Watchmen. I like a lot of Man of Steel, but not all of it.
Starting point is 00:11:29 I don't love Batman v. Superman, but I do like his crazy extended Justice League movie, which is ridiculous. Agreed. I haven't seen The Owls one, and I haven't seen Sucker Punch, so I can't comment on those, but I did not like the Rebel Moon viz. They're not good, are they? No, they were horrible to look at. And again, that's him with all the, that's him with complete creative control. That's what he makes when he's not adapting and. existing thing. He's making
Starting point is 00:11:54 sort of Star Wars. Boring Star Wars. Boring Dune Star Wars. Even boring a Dune. Yeah, but that's what I liked about it. Yeah, me too. Speaking of Superman. Go on. David Corrin. Oh, suddenly he's got nothing to say about Superman. I don't know
Starting point is 00:12:10 anything to say. David Corrin's where to play Superman said this. Oh, he's an authority, is he? On Superman. At the moment he is. I think you'll find I've got a lot of long boxes. What? I don't know. I don't. It's not true at all. Like dog coffins. Yes, that's what we call them. That's what we call here down under.
Starting point is 00:12:27 We call them long boxes. We say, load up your long boxes. With Auntie Merle's poodle. That's right. Chuck it in there. There's room for two. He spoke to entertainment tonight, which is still a thing, apparently.
Starting point is 00:12:45 I'm Bob Newhart, and I'm Mary, whoever. And I'm John Chin. Remember? Remember that was the bit? Eric Banner would be John Chin. Was he? Remember that? Yeah, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:12:54 That was where I got a lot of my Hollywood entertainment news when I was a boy. Me too, I think. I'd be like, wow, I can't believe their, I don't know, the skulls is coming out. Absolutely with that guy. Pacey from Dawson's Creek. That's right. And whatever. I can't believe this.
Starting point is 00:13:10 The skulls? And your parents would be like, why aren't you in school? And I'd be like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. And they'd be like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. And they'd be like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. People sometimes wonder. why do we have so much like American pop culture knowledge? That's one of the reasons.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Yeah, because they made us not go to school. They would like today's lessons, stay home from school and watch entertainment tonight. Until you remember the theme. Yeah. 30 years later. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Anyway, he said on the subject of Man of Tomorrow, which is the Superman sequel. Correct.
Starting point is 00:13:46 He said the character is a little more mature. They're going to be a little bit deeper, not to mention all the, the crazy stuff. Nicholas Holt in the war suit. Whoa. And this, that's, you know,
Starting point is 00:13:58 it's whatever. This isn't a lot of stuff. No, it's not, but I got another thing. Okay. This is not, this is not newsworthy.
Starting point is 00:14:05 No, entertainment tonight. I guess they're not news tonight, are they? No, they're not. Exactly. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:10 So, but James Graham was on threads and it was asked about, well, what are all these secret characters? You know, I'm fine, like, is there a Wonder Woman
Starting point is 00:14:16 in this movie, maybe? And he said, what secret characters? It's a movie about Alex and Clark. People shouldn't expect substantial amounts of other characters. Well, you know what I'm going to expect. Substantial amounts of other characters.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Exactly. I know his game. He's not really a character cameo kind of guy, though. Like, to surprise you with after the fact, is he? So maybe it's not. Maybe it's not. Wonder woman. Wow.
Starting point is 00:14:41 Maybe let's get ready to get underwhelmed. Underwhelmed woman. Sure. That's your last bloody girlfriend. Come on, come on, mate. She was quite welled. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right down the line.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Another wrong with that. So, you've been watching... That's a good character, though, in the DC universe, underwhelmed woman. She's just sitting at a cafe as there big battles happening. I've seen bigger. I've seen bigger battles. So you've been watching Lanterns?
Starting point is 00:15:14 Watch the latest episode where it all bloody kicked off. Well, this is, of course. By the time this episode comes out. Episode six will be... We'll be out, but we've only watched episode five. Yes, that's right. It's kicked off. That's how we've been doing it.
Starting point is 00:15:26 We've got all sorts of theories. Yeah, we do. Do you want to talk about any of it here or now? This is the news segment. This is the theories and opinions segment. That's right. We're here to talk about news and dead dogs. I mean, we do talk about dead dogs, but we will be talking about dead dogs in the segments,
Starting point is 00:15:42 what we read or what we're going to read. It'll come up in the Resident Evil review, probably in the letters. But now is not the time for opinions. Agreed. Anyway, Daniel Richmond said on the topic of a lanterns movie because there have been things happening. People are generally well received, I think, the show. He said, I hear a green light for lanterns season two is near.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Oh, very good, very good wordplayed Daniel Rich. I don't think he meant it. But the Angler said, they said this earlier, sources also say writers are in for season two of lanterns has been hard at work for more than a month, even though HBO hasn't handed out an official renewal. I feel like if the numbers are true and to be believed, then yeah, a
Starting point is 00:16:21 true detective. Yes, so season two was a no-brainer, you know? I mean, that's assuming that Hal Jordan survives, you know, to the next season. Sure.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Or if anybody wants to do it. Well, he could be a hologram. You could, that's true. There are many theories as to what and if and who is going to happen.
Starting point is 00:16:37 They could put his brain into a dog. Yeah. But I mean, how would they get the dog? Yeah. You know. Yeah. Wait a minute,
Starting point is 00:16:46 Mason, I just looked at the ground. Yes. And I got an idea. You know that new sound you're looking for? Well, listen to this. What do you think? That's good.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Who's he calling there? Because the structure of the joke, it's Marvin Berry, and he's calling his cousin Chuck. He's calling, and this he's calling whoever's got hell's brain. Okay. You know that sound you've been looking for. Sure, a dead doc. Listen to this.
Starting point is 00:17:17 No, but get... Okay. It doesn't always work, but sometimes it's fun to interrogate why it doesn't work. Because it's someone who's looking for the sound of a dead dog. I guess. What is it an idea of what to do with a brain? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:34 So maybe it's that. Dr. Frankenstein. You know that sound you've been looking for. A dead dog. Listen to this. How do you feel about a season two of this? I think... And it could, you know, whose cousin could be?
Starting point is 00:17:45 Frankenberry. That's good. Thank you. That's good, Mason. It all works together. Do you think, though, I think I would want to... it to go bigger. Out in space.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Yeah, whatever. Just more green lanterny. Sure. Yeah. More green lantern stuff? Yeah. I've seen some really good green lantern stuff. What I would say is that...
Starting point is 00:18:04 You don't need to do small town detective who says in a row. That's true. Big town detective. Exactly. What I would say, we'll maybe talk about it later, but the... One of the criticisms I think of the series is of course is that a lot of the constructs are more small scale than you would think for, you know, compare it to say Guy Gardner's Green Lantern constructs from the Superman movie.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Yeah. But I think when, if you wanted to, I think, to justify it like narratively, I would say that Hal's ring is kind of like a phone that he's refused to upgrade for like 20 years. Right. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because he doesn't, for reasons, he doesn't want to keep connecting it to, you know, the central power battery or whatever.
Starting point is 00:18:44 That's the reason it keeps discharging because he hasn't. Yeah. It's out, it's really outdated. Like maybe when, you know, if the reveal is going to be that Hal Jordan's ring ends up with Guy Gardner, he probably just takes it, you know, to the Telstra store and he gets the new version. Absolutely. And it has proper battery. It has proper battery life and it can just do stuff.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Yeah. And also, Guy Gardner's ring does look different. Correct, because he traded it in. Where? The Telstra store. That's right. Yeah. Anyways, it's Tom Cruise News.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Tom Cruise News. For some reason I've titled this, Tom Cruise. Jump on the couch. It's time for Tom Cruise News. Remember we did that? We should talk about that. I've titled this. I don't remember why I wrote this.
Starting point is 00:19:26 I just wrote Tom Cruise, oh no. Now I know why. Oh, yes. Now I know why. I mean, you can think of a number of reasons why, but Matt Baloney says, he's a big Hollywood guy reporter. Tom Cruise's Digger, which is why he's around everywhere, by the way.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Correct. Debuted on tracking last night at $20 million domestic. Okay, that sounds bad. Which is not good enough. Also, according to the numbers, whose numbers, the numbers numbers, it cost $125 million to make. As you said last week, we will be there day one. Correct, yes.
Starting point is 00:20:00 To watch him flipping and flopping around. What's the whole deal with it? Why does everyone look so weird? Yeah, why does everyone look so weird in this movie cinema? Oh, wait, it's just me and you. Oh, no. We're the weirdos. They're the weirdos.
Starting point is 00:20:15 So, yeah, this was never going to do well, but it's not about that. Sometimes it's about art. Sometimes about acting and attempting to finally get that Oscar, you know? Yeah, exactly. How is that even possible? That he's never won an Oscar. Do you think he cares? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Is he an accolades guy? He might have been at some point. Yeah, I think maybe Hollywood's attitude as well. He was and he remains a huge box office draw and a big movie star and maybe the last movie star. The last straight movie star. He can't also have. The straightest movie star in Hollywood. It is an arrow. He can't also have the accolade. Like, just let someone else have it.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Okay. If it's, you know. All right. I think that's maybe the vibe. Anyway, one of the... Also, he's weird. Yeah. Which now he's trying to, you know, obviously, you know, counteract by saying nothing. Well, saying a lot. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Of things that mean nothing. That's funny you should say that because I've got... This is the opening paragraph from a GQ interview. This is what it says. And again, are they asking him about Slim Fit Chino's or? That's a great question. They should. on the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank, California,
Starting point is 00:21:21 just down from where they shoot the pit, is the studio's old scenic loft, the dusty industrial space where artisans once painted backdrops. Tom Cruise is standing in the center of the room, and he's happy. When you're making a movie, he says, you're doing the hands, by the way.
Starting point is 00:21:38 You remember every single person that it takes to be able to make a film. This is how he talks, grandly, universally. He looks like he's conducting a tour of the lot and stuff. He looks. He looks at. like Tom and stuff.
Starting point is 00:21:49 Yeah. I guess there would have been over the course of the... The article goes on to say he looks like Tom Cruise. I mean, these guys that are painting backdrops and building the sets and moving the cameras lighting,
Starting point is 00:22:01 every area of making a movie, it's light, architecture, the design, all of it, to entertain audiences, he says. The question was, do you remember using a painted backdrop in a movie? Incredible.
Starting point is 00:22:13 There it is. You didn't even say yes. Yes, I do remember that. remembers everything though you remember as every bit so i remember there was a nerdist interview from like 10 years ago do you remember where he also said nothing he started doing this after the couch after the couch katie holmes thing and all the scientology shit like kicked off so he recalibrated yeah but i think after that he's going to recalibrate again you think so to become a level of personable which is deemed acceptable by him and his team are you saying that's what this is no no i think he's going to
Starting point is 00:22:47 shift again after this because people are like, what the fuck is this? Every article in interview was so weird. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I, because he used to be quite personal. Like, he would talk about things and have opinions and, you know, and get angry and whatever. But now is, I also got to wonder like what, what the, you know, I assume all the interviewers are getting a list of things they're not allowed to ask him about and et cetera. But they're clearly going with, they would like to have some concrete answers to go there. They're asking him pointed questions that should have concrete answers to them. But he's not answering them in any way that seems normal.
Starting point is 00:23:28 Is what's happening here. Because he's not? Maybe. But I don't know. Maybe he's like, it kind of feels like, like the answer to that question, it kind of feels like he has prepared a bunch of statements about things. Yeah. And then when somebody hits him with a question,
Starting point is 00:23:45 about backdrops. He's got something locked and loaded. Like his actor brain has got a monologue ready about something that had backdrop in it. And he's just like, just in case they don't. Like, I reckon it's something to do with like, you have to give credit to everybody who works on a film and all the background crew and all the blah, blah, blah. And he doesn't want to do an interview where he doesn't mention them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:10 So the idea is like the instant someone says backdrops, painted backdrops, painted backdrops. You ever worked with a painted backdrops? Everybody's great. Like, he has to throw that in now. That feels like what it is. It feels like... Everybody is great. Yeah, and I think I agree.
Starting point is 00:24:22 That's actually true. What are you saying? It feels like... It feels like he's pushing the idea of like, you have... You know, he's a lunatic, but also like the... I think maybe this is a kind of a noble thing to do in the sense of like, we don't want to, we want to push back from AI. We want to push back from like you can just get machines to do everything to think about,
Starting point is 00:24:44 because he's the ambassador for movies. As weird as he is, and he is. Yeah. He's the ambassador for movies. He's the ambassador for Hollywood. And he wants to really impart on people's brains. There's all these people and they all work really hard and they make these movies. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:25:00 Did you see Danny Boyle's weird? Oh, he's got a movie coming out called Ink. I don't remember what it's about. And somebody said, don't do that. It sucks. And they wrapped up the Q&A. Did you see that? I did say that, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:09 And I love Danny Boyle. And I love the movie Sunshine. But like, yeah. That's, uh... But also Danny Boyle's of that age, where I think like... What he's tricked by AI? Yeah, I think that's what it is, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:23 Yeah. He's tricked by AI and he's not that online to know that there's a huge pushback against it. You're probably right, yeah. Yeah. No, well, I did enjoy the Bone Temple or the other one that he directed. Me too. Yeah, man. God, that's all the news that you could use, I think.
Starting point is 00:25:37 Wow. Should we talk about... Big movie? Big movie? Big scary movie. Big scary movie. Big scary movie. Not scary movie.
Starting point is 00:25:46 No, we didn't cover the last scary movie. And I don't think it was that big. Or good or funny or interesting or worth talking about. I think this movie's big and funny and interesting and worth talking about. Agreed. And is dead dogs? Or is there? There are.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Oh, you mean in the movie? Yes, there are also dead dogs in the movie. Resident Evil 2026. Oh, well, I understand it if I haven't watched Resident Evil 1 through 2025, of which there are actually that literally that many other Resident Evil movies. There's so many Resident Evil movies. We've covered them all in Caravan and Garbage. Too many.
Starting point is 00:26:19 And in retrospect, what a waste of my time in life. Yeah, but you had a... I had a good time with some of them. One of them. No, I don't know if you did. I was going to say that, but I didn't think you did. And we haven't seen the reboot movie from like 2022 or whatever it is. Or the reboot Netflix series.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Oh, yeah. We've played some of the games. Anyways, this current version directed by Zach Krieger has a budget of 75 million dollars. Oh. And it looks like a real movie for the most part. So true, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:26:45 And the box office in the US alone it looks like it's going to hit at least $50 million, probably more. Oh, very good. This is the highest ever US opening for a Resident Evil movie. Interesting. The second highest was Resident Evil
Starting point is 00:26:56 afterlife from 2010 with 26.6 million. Which one is that? Who knows? Doesn't matter. Number four. It also has the highest, all five, no four. It also has the highest Rotten Tomato score
Starting point is 00:27:06 for any video game movie ever. Currently. Currently, at 98% at time of recording. Uh, but does that mean that you can tell us what the story was? No, it doesn't. What did you think the story was?
Starting point is 00:27:18 And I'm offended. You think I could. I thought you were capable of anything. Correct. You take offence to that. I take offence to it. How long have we known each other? Uh, 25 years.
Starting point is 00:27:29 Wow. More or less. What are we, what are we the child soldiers from the movie? Soldier? No. No? We're not. We just cut.
Starting point is 00:27:39 We, we, we. We recorded. We just recorded a thing for Caravaggio. Come on, man. Come on, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Come on. All right.
Starting point is 00:27:46 So, there's a guy. Yep. Can't remember his name. It's not important. Resident Evil. His name's not Resident Evil. Well, he's not? No.
Starting point is 00:27:53 I've written here his name's Resident Evil. His name's Breitzident Evil. All right? And anyway, Brett. His name's Brai with a Y. Oh, okay. Yeah. Anyway, Brian, he's a courier and his job, he's a medical courier, and his job is to take
Starting point is 00:28:06 an important, I don't know, medical stuff. Yep. Liverer, a kidneys or whatever. Yeah. And he's going to take it. He's got to deliver it. To Raccoon City, hospital. And nobody gives him no respect.
Starting point is 00:28:17 They should call him resident danger field. Yeah. Nobody gives him no respect. Which is ridiculous also because he's doing important work. He's like Uber for organs. Yeah. I would suggest that they probably, in real life, they probably would because there's a mutual respect. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:32 It's profesh. Agreed. But this is a fictional universe. That is a fictional universe. Anyways, about to clock off of the night and deal with his, a harpy of a girlfriend. Oh my God. She's always like there's a really important thing happening
Starting point is 00:28:46 our lives and I wish you'd come home and talk about it and he's like blah blah blah blah right? Yeah. But then someone at the hospital's like, do you want to transfer this important medical thing to Raccoon C? And he's like double money. The resident evil currency. That's right. Which is just money. Yeah, we're going to give you resident evil danger money because you're about to step into a resident evil.
Starting point is 00:29:06 And he's like, I'll take that money. and then he falls into a Resident Evil. Bad. Bad time for him. Severely. Yeah. Yeah. So it is set during the events of Resident Evil too.
Starting point is 00:29:18 I think you'll find those happen during the 90s or whatever. Yeah, exactly. And this is actually happening in the present day of 2026 with modern phones and modern stuff. And modern men. I can't believe Zach Kregor has insulted us the fans in doing such a thing by advancing the timeline of an adaptation of anything. This is worse than when This is worse than when they adapted Ironman And they set it in the present day of 2008
Starting point is 00:29:44 They didn't set it in 1963 or whatever I'm so furious I was furious when they did that And I'm furious that they've done it now Why wasn't Iron Man building his suit out of transistors And calling people on a phone stuck to the wall? Well is that something that you think hinders this movie? No
Starting point is 00:30:04 You know the gym? No But I'm only saying that because I saw so many people on the internet who are like, I'm the world's biggest Resident Evil fan and I can't believe the disrespect of Zach Kregor that he hasn't set this in the 90s who set this in the present day. You're grasping its straws.
Starting point is 00:30:20 Also, you've lost your minds. If you think that is the biggest problem with an adaptation of anything. Resident Evil is also at this point, it's whatever. It's whatever creatures, it's whatever perspective. They shifted to first person a few years ago and then back again. It's always been like horror,
Starting point is 00:30:38 but there's action and puzzles and romance. Romance. Set on boats and romance. I think the real... Dead dogs. Thank you. Yeah. I think because normal...
Starting point is 00:30:48 This is not a regular Resident Evil protagonist because not always, but it's a pretty man or a muscular man. Super cop. A super cop. A karate lady or a scared lady. Yeah. That's not always.
Starting point is 00:31:01 There's Ethan Winters where wherever he fits in. Moldman. Moldman. but this guy's not that. He's like a goof. Yeah. And I'm sure I've said this as we as we approach the release of this movie and as the trailers came out, I got increasingly happy with the idea of just a normal man who could exist
Starting point is 00:31:21 in the real world just being dumped into a Resident Evil. He has no idea what's coming. And that is such a part of the thrill of this movie. Absolutely. Is that he's just a regular guy. He's not prepped for this. No. And nor would you be.
Starting point is 00:31:36 No. But just his increasing exasperation about being thrown into a Resident Evil universe. He doesn't even say zombies. He's like, look at all these monsters or whatever. Well, speaking of, because another reason why it's definitely not the Resident Evil 2 timeline is because not only the Year Set, but just the types of creatures that he comes across. Yeah, right. They're not Resident Evil 2 creatures. But they are very Resident Evil, aren't they?
Starting point is 00:32:01 Oh, totally. It's a lot of four stuff and apparently some six stuff, a game I haven't played. I haven't played. Okay. But yeah, you know what I think? I think this would have been better received by those people that you're describing. Because I also think there are Resident Evil fans, which I'd say we are, to a degree. I'm a fan of the concept, certainly.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Sure. Where that this would have been better received by those people if this was a secret Resident Evil movie. Oh, I see, right. Whether it was released and then somebody says umbrella corporation or you see a spray healing thing or a typewriter. Or a green herb. Or a green herb. And it slowly dawns on you that it's Resident Evil, but you can't market that movie.
Starting point is 00:32:39 You can't market that. Yeah. Maybe you could, though, as being like, this is Zach Krieger's latest. Brezident Evil. Resid... Yes, exactly. So anyway, I think that would have been a fun reveal
Starting point is 00:32:50 if they could have pulled that up. I mean, I think the Hollywood landscape, this platonic ideal of the Hollywood landscape, we always go back to this of like, well, wouldn't it be great if they could just do this and make a secret movie and reveal, this and it's like we yes we would all love to do that but realistically you can't anymore you can't do that because the that the the the Hollywood machine is so relying on box you know the first weekend
Starting point is 00:33:16 box office and that sort of thing that nobody's relying on nobody's job is safe if the first weekend box office isn't you know a huge explosion that's so you know you just can't do that I wish you could but you have to if this is a resident evil movie you have to tell people it's a Resident Evil movie. Yeah, no, you're absolutely right. And it is. But people have talked about also, it has the structure of a Resident Evil game, where it starts relatively simply, and then it becomes spiraling nonsense.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Yes. Chaos. Absolute chaos. And this is like 90 minutes kind of with the one guy the entire time. Very small supporting cast. Yeah, exactly. Some faces where you go, oh, I didn't. Oh, him, really?
Starting point is 00:34:02 Oh, really? This guy cancelled. Yeah. Is he? No. No. But the main guy's Austin Abrams. He's so good in this.
Starting point is 00:34:11 So you would know him from weapons. He's the guy that... He's also Euphoria. Oh, I've not seen any of that. Oh, yeah. He is in weapons. He is the man who... He stabs the cop with his needle.
Starting point is 00:34:27 And then he gets beaten up. Absolutely. He's very endearing in that, even though he's a scumbag. And the same. He's less of a scumbag in this. Yes. But he's very likable. And, you know, it's quite funny.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Also, apparently they took out a lot of the humour. Okay. Where there is humour in this, but I think it's a nice amount of humour. I don't think it needs to go any further than it does. I think that... Oh, he's also in Wolfe's. Oh, he is. That's a bad movie.
Starting point is 00:34:52 And he's in whale fail, the upcoming whale fail. That guy failed right into that whale. Absolutely. And he failed right into a Resident Evil. Yeah, man. I mean, this is the... I would say this is the... a very good illustration of why you should never do overtime.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Yes. Because that's my greatest fear is agreeing to do some overtime and then something bad happens while you're doing the overtime. And you're like, why did I do this? Why should have just gone home? Yeah. Why would you... I wouldn't have to do a Resident Evil at all.
Starting point is 00:35:18 I'm so stupid that I've had to do Resident Evil now. I would say though about this movie, I think the opening act or... And I think I've seen this. People have said this, I'm fairly certain. The first two thirds are more interesting than the third. third act, I think. Okay. And I think that just the way it kind of concludes and like escalates.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Right. But I also think that to me is also often when I play a Resident Evil game. I feel similarly. Like I think of like four, which is an incredible game. By the end, you're shooting a rocket launcher at a big Spider-Man and whatever. But it starts off you're in the village and you're, you know, you're battling your way through. And then you go to a weird castle and whatever. And then it becomes militarized.
Starting point is 00:36:00 And it's like, oh, it's still fun. But it's like, it's less. Right, okay. You know what I mean? So it still has the structure. Yeah, right. I guess so it's hard to be like, this is a complaint because it is how they play out. Again, like you said, it does sort of start small, like, you know.
Starting point is 00:36:15 And what it does is I think it builds a lot of tension and it builds like this huge sense of danger if you're one guy and there's even just one creature. Yeah. You know, pursuing you or what have you. You know, if you don't know what's going on, you don't know, you don't know that they're vulnerable to a, a gunshot to the head or whatever or, you know, you don't know their weaknesses. Going into one of these games, you know. Yeah. You know, it's like, okay, headshots works, but you don't know that if you, and you get,
Starting point is 00:36:42 a normal person can't just do a headshot. No, that's not how life works. I mean, that's one of the things that I really liked about this because, like a Resident Evil game, there's like, there's ammo counting. Yeah. And often in Resident Evil games. I think Zach Greger who said something like, you will be counting the bullets with the, with the protagonist.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Totally. Yeah, you do. Yeah. There's that and like, and also in Resident Evil, especially with, you start, you miss. Like, especially when you're rusty or you're starting a new game, you're like, oh, fuck, I needed that. And I miss.
Starting point is 00:37:10 There's also, like, you know, as mentioned, there's things like the typewriter, there's health spray. There's a bunch of padlock stuff, which I really enjoyed. Also, the zombies are, there's, they're not, like, the, as mentioned, they're not, like the Resident Evil 2 zombies. They're more the, the Las Plagus. Yeah. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Kind of, um, I did often think throughout this movie, oh, Las Plagas. That's what you thought. This movie is a great illustration of how you can do video game mechanics, but not say, hello everyone, we're doing video game mechanics. The absolute worst example of that, I think, is Super Mario Brothers. Not Galaxy, but the previous one. The first animated one. This is what a Fireflower does and blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Don't forget, you can do a power up, Mario. Yeah. It's not, okay. You can too, that's right. You can actually. Yeah. Which they did better in Galaxy. They did, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:37:59 There was a certain amount of assumed knowledge. that yeah people who watch this have probably played the video games they know what's happening but i just i i love the opening act on the road and the first zombie encounter and then it goes from the snow to to a house and that sequence is all fantastic there's the clip that was released where it's just like it's just one thing at one point yeah coming after him and he sees it coming and the tension and he's got stuff going on oh my god he's trying to make a phone call you know he's uh you know trying to find some bullets so good Like he has like this one, often in Resident Evil games, but not always.
Starting point is 00:38:35 There's like this one thing that pursues you. Yeah. And he has that for this, for this movie. Yeah. Which I like. But there's also like weird new stuff. There's a weird sewer man. There's a, there's baby stuff.
Starting point is 00:38:47 Yeah. Yeah, that's true actually. Which is pretty horrifying. I mean, Zach, Zach Greger is not shy about, you know, hurting a kid. No, certainly not. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:56 I just, it is, it's really tight and really engaging. Like, I, I do. think, like I said, the first two-thirds, like, I really, really liked until... Well, I'm going to say this. I liked all three-thirds. Until I hit the hospital. But I thought there were moments where, oh, this feels a little C.G. heavy. This feels sometimes like the thing, 2011.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Not as bad as that, obviously. It still all looks good. Yeah. But it becomes bigger. Do you hear that Mary Elizabeth Winston? Not as bad as 2011's The Thing remake reboot prequel. But also, like, in saying that, that's resonant. and evil.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Yeah. Like that always happens. The things that happen in this, you're like, yep, that always happens in a resident evil. Yes. Yeah, so, you know,
Starting point is 00:39:41 spoilers. Yeah, best movie ever. Best movie ever. A bit of fun. I liked this. I'm glad I got to see it. I'm glad it's doing well. I'm glad that the fan base has scared
Starting point is 00:39:49 Zach Craigger away forever, apparently. Well, I think he said this is the only kind of adaptation of a thing he'll ever do. Yeah. And I think he said that. I don't know. I think he said that before.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Everybody got mad at him. We're going to be seeing like, produced by story by Zach Kregor on follow-up movies to this that he probably won't direct, which is a shame. Anyway, Spoilers? Spoilers. What do you want to know, James?
Starting point is 00:40:13 We can do some fun faces that show up in this. Sure, absolutely. Paul Walter Houser. Is in this, yep, absolutely. Zach Cherry is in this. Kelly Reese is in this. Griffin Newman is in this. That's right.
Starting point is 00:40:24 I should have known, Mason. Why are you trying to develop? Because he just did the Resident Evil movies, you're telling you. me. And now he's in a Resident Evil movie. Wow. Cross promo much. Wow. Must be nice. Yeah, it must be nice to be in the tick and this movie. That's right.
Starting point is 00:40:41 Yeah, no, I do like him. And he is good in this. I guess, do you want to talk about like the creature, like the main pursuit thing? It's a big ball of limbs. Yeah, that's right. It starts as one lady and then becomes 19 people. Because Brett isn't evil. He goes to a farmhouse where presumably that lady, that lady's from, she's the,
Starting point is 00:41:06 she's the lady of the house and her husband's also been infected. Yeah. And then so Brian shoots both of them, but then assorted goop comes out of them and joins them together. So they become one entity. And then as the movie progresses, that ball keeps getting larger Catamari Damasey style and rolling around and trying to get him.
Starting point is 00:41:31 I feel like there was an Oat Studio short that did this. Oh. And maybe the game Limbo or not one of those kind of game. Wasn't Limba or something like that. Octodad? Are you thinking of Octodad? I might be thinking of Octodad or mom. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:44 So yeah, it becomes this, again, which is a Resident Evil thing of like Mr. X or whatever. Like a thing will pursue you for the length of the movie or game. Yeah. As it were. But also, you know, Resident Evil ends up in a white room eventually. Yeah. That's how it always does, doesn't it? Oh, what I was going to say, gave me some diehard vibes as well.
Starting point is 00:42:04 I mean, there's a moment where he takes his shoes off and he's in an elevator. And he's got both the diehard guns. The machine gun and the handgun. The handgun are both Bruce Willis's diehard guns. Clever nod, clever and fun. Yeah. Is that a clever and fun fun? And they're from the 90s, those guns.
Starting point is 00:42:20 Oh my God, 90s guns. Wait, in the 80s, but diet's from the 80s. Oh, well, they're 80s guns. Sorry, I meant, that's what I meant. I meant they're 80s guns. How did you feel about the, there's a, it's just it. But they're like, just, just. the idea of everyone every man who's like, oh.
Starting point is 00:42:33 Yeah, hate this. How about this? Austin Abrams. He's another of John McLean's kids. Sure. Diehard 16 or whatever. Yeah, great. He could probably do it.
Starting point is 00:42:44 But, um, so, I mean, there's great, there's a great sequence where some zombies are like kamikazeing of buildings. The sewer sequence is tense with like rats. That was a practical man that they built. Oh, okay. The baby bit is awful where they goes through a baby. I like to think you're all. developing a practical man in your son.
Starting point is 00:43:03 I am, in a way, Mason. I'm teaching him all of my skills. That's right. Oh, no. Podcasting. Yeah, sure, absolutely. But, yeah, all of that's good. There's a vomit zombie of acid vomit zombie.
Starting point is 00:43:15 Oh, that's right, yeah. Who's also a coward, which is a, that's a fun, fun moment. You know what, so the ending of this, though. Yes, because quite early on, he does get bitten. Oh, there's a moment with a little girl, which is really upsetting as well. There it is, yeah. Yeah, so we, you know, he, because this guy's also like, he's a little bit of a scumbag, but he seems overall pretty decent. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:37 And he, you know, his, his, his, uh, his, his, uh, his, is, uh, he's, uh, he's, uh, he's, he doesn't want to deal with that. She's going on and on about it. I hope it's not a metaphor. But, um, but then he finds a little girl in an RV. Yeah. Whose mother bit her. She was, she got last Plagist. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:53 And this girl's like, can you help me? And he's like, okay. And then he looks down and realizes her, her foot's become a tentacle monster. Yeah. And then she becomes a tentacle monster, and then he shoots her with a shotgun, but you don't see it. No. But she bites him in the process. And then, of course, he's over the process of, he's the guy in the zombie movie.
Starting point is 00:44:12 He won't reveal that he's a zombie. Absolutely. Yeah. So, yeah, so he's trying to, oh, and also what he's actually carrying is an element to the Resident Evil T-Virus. It's one of the vitamins. Yeah, that will cure you. Yeah. And so it's in everybody's interest also from umbrella, which is,
Starting point is 00:44:29 only mentioned once to get him to the top of this hospital and as Rackin City burns to the ground. Yeah. Which is fun. It's fun. But the ending is like he turns completely. Yeah. Becomes a... Not just to a zombie.
Starting point is 00:44:44 He becomes a big eyeball and the shoulder. Teeth in the stomach. Teeth in the stomach. Weird arms and eyes and tentacles man. He consumes everybody in the lab while they're trying to... Well, he wants to get the needle. Yeah. Because he's still conscious.
Starting point is 00:45:00 Yeah. But all his tentacles want to do murdering. Yeah, that's right. But then it fully takes over. Yeah. And the end of the movie is just him. Probably going to get rocket launched by Leon. Yeah, that and also the town will get nuked, which is what happens in Resident Evil Toe.
Starting point is 00:45:16 Yeah. I think also like, if you look at Zach Gregor's horror movies, there is like a real nihilism to them. Oh, yes. The ending of Barbarian. Like it's not like, yay. It's like, oh. And weapons is the same. You know, the ending, it's, you know, they resolve a lot of it.
Starting point is 00:45:34 But it's also like, well, that was pretty fucked up though, wasn't it? Josh Brolin's not happy about this. No, that's correct. I think the difference between, like, those movies and this one is that, like, there's no winners in this, like, at all. Except the umbrella corporation stock price. And zombie stuff, I guess, yeah. So, I don't know. I don't know how I feel about that year, because I've just watched it.
Starting point is 00:45:57 It was, the abruptness of it was really like, it's pretty jarring. But also, like, what do you, what do you, maybe he didn't know where to go from there. Like after, like, what he turns back and then he goes home. It's like, okay. Yeah, no, that's true. You know, I mean, I feel like when he, uh, when Brian makes that second phone call to his girlfriend and he's like, you know, actually, I think we should have kids and blah. Oh, it was a voice memo. Oh, yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:46:23 I'm like, yeah, this guy's, this guy's done. Yeah. This is not happening for this guy. Did you expect a second protagonist to come in? Like a Leon S. Kennedy? No. A Leon's Kennedy? Never.
Starting point is 00:46:34 Is it Leon's Kennedy? It's that one. Okay, yeah, cool. All right. Yeah. I didn't expect that either, but maybe he wasn't that helicopter. Yeah, that's right. We don't actually know.
Starting point is 00:46:44 So he spoke to that, Craig, he spoke to the playlist about a sequel to this and he said, I can't help thinking about the other places this story could go. I've got ideas, but this movie hasn't even come out yet. Let's see what happens. So I wonder whether, does he bring in the girlfriend? Is he, what does he do from this? But the next movie he's working on is the flood, which he's been trying to develop for a while,
Starting point is 00:47:04 and that shoots mid next year. Oh, what doesn't he, what doesn't he just get the license for the Bible? Oh, yeah. And then people have, oh, oh, he can't get the flood made. So I guess now it's no is the flood, is it? Oh, very good. The Bible, is it? Oh.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Do you think it's amazing? He made weapons this time last year. Correct, yeah. And then just did this. I just did this. In a year. Yeah. That's phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:47:29 Anyways, I wish the flood was coming out next year, but it's two years away. It's 2028. But yeah, so how do you, do you think this is like, what lesson do you think Sony PlayStation Studios will take from this? The worst one. Let's brainstorm the worst thing they could think of. It's bring Paul W.S. Anderson back, I think, for another one of these. Do you think it becomes?
Starting point is 00:47:51 And he puts his daughter in his new Alice. Oh, that's good. Yeah. But do you think it will become like, Are people looking for, what people demand that Leon turns up or whoever Aida Wong or whatever? Yeah, I think so, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:02 Do you think that's what we're going to? And if he's not, if Zach Craig is not going to be involved in this, then that is exactly what they'll do, yes. Yeah. There is a person in this who we briefly meet who is like a proper Resident Evil, like, a main character.
Starting point is 00:48:15 Oh, like a super cop. A competent person. Yeah, so, yeah, so Brian meets Paul Walter Hauser and. Who explains Resident Evil to him. is like, you're in a resident evil currently. Sorry about that. Our fault. Yeah, but also your fault.
Starting point is 00:48:31 Yeah. And he's accompanied by like a super cop kind of character. She is torn to shreds. I did like that moment where, because she was torn enough, and they're using the low arbor body to lure him into the darkness. Which I thought was fun and good. Bit of fun. There's a lot of little fun ideas.
Starting point is 00:48:49 You know what? There's one scaring weapons, which really got me. Uh-huh. You know the Gladys in the dream moment? Oh, yeah. When Josh and Josh Boland like wakes up and freaks out. Yeah. I don't think there's anything like that in this.
Starting point is 00:49:03 And you were also got by the big gun that appears in the sky. Yeah. Because you were like, that gun's too big. That's going to get me. I thought this was called weapons, not big weapon in the sky, floating gum. What does that mean? I said. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:16 And I keep saying it. Yeah. You know, there's fun little, I like also. There's fun mistakes you make. there's a moment we get chased by a dog. You think it's a normal dog. It's not a normal dog. And then he throws the ladder at it,
Starting point is 00:49:30 but he's like, I could have used that ladder to. Yeah. Like there's moments like, yeah, he's not thinking. No. You know, he's not used to this kind of stuff. Why wouldn't he simply just, why wouldn't he spin kick the dog? Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:49:42 Suplex all the zombies. Why would he just do that? I don't know why he didn't just do that. Anyway, I recommend this. If you're a Resident Evil fan, I think if you like what the core of Resident Evil is, you will enjoy this. I agree.
Starting point is 00:49:55 But if you're very specific about what you want to see in Resident Evil, you probably won't. Yeah, but I would suspect you've never been happy about any of these things.
Starting point is 00:50:04 Oh, also you don't need to know anything about Resident Evil to say this. I probably should have said that earlier. Yeah, that's true, actually, yeah. But yeah, you could just enjoy
Starting point is 00:50:11 this as a horror movie. Yeah, 100%. And it's 90 minutes. Oh, it's brisk. It's brisk. It's brisk. And then you're not brisk. They don't feel brisk.
Starting point is 00:50:21 Should we move to the next? They feel like a risk. They do. Should we move to the next segment of the show? Let's move to the next segment of the show. But what is it? It's called what we're reading. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:50:30 What we're going to read? Oh my God. Oh my God. I'm doing the thing. We talk about things we've been reading and watching and doing, don't we? You better believe we do it. And this is the segment where we do that in. Yes.
Starting point is 00:50:47 What have you watched? A bunch of stuff. Oh, yeah. If you can even believe it. Let's call you Nick Mason bunch of stuff, why don't we? Okay. I watched it ends. You what do you think?
Starting point is 00:50:56 I also enjoyed it. Did it end? The movie, yes, it did, yeah. Because you're not still watching it, are you? No. That would be rude if you're watching a movie right now. That would be rude of you. It would be rude.
Starting point is 00:51:08 So I don't know when we can discuss this. Maybe later in the year we could just cover some, we could talk about stuff we caught up with. Okay. I mean, we've both seen it. We're both seen it. That's true. Did you have an explanation or a theory?
Starting point is 00:51:23 Oh, they were on a road. Yeah. Also, we can't spoil it, can we? Not in this segment. I guess you could. Easily. Yeah. It wouldn't be a problem for me at all this while.
Starting point is 00:51:31 That's so true. Okay. I'm glad you saw that. What else did you saw? I watched another horror movie. 80K. Yeah, not bad. Amazing.
Starting point is 00:51:38 Really good. I watched another horror movie called Buffet Infinity. Oh, I haven't. Warren Buffett Infinity. No, James, no. Okay. So it's a movie that is an interesting sort of found footage kind of film. This is a 2025 movie.
Starting point is 00:51:53 Correct. And it is a movie. It is the plot. is played out almost entirely in like local news adverts. Yeah. So it's set in this sort of local kind of community and it's got a shopping center and a sandwich shop and a car dealership. Is this one of the people who made like too many cooks or something?
Starting point is 00:52:11 It's very too many cooks-esque. No, I think buddy is, right? Yeah, buddy is. Buddy is. Now this is a similar vibe, but basically you see these various ads and then you, that has sort of established the world and then you see something has there's a new restaurant called buffet infinity
Starting point is 00:52:31 and over the course of the movie it seems to be expanding and expanding and then mysterious things start happening to the people that work at the other businesses I don't think it entirely works but it's uh it's an interesting premise how do they go sustaining something like that well that's the thing I think it would
Starting point is 00:52:48 probably work better and I my understanding is maybe it started as like YouTube shorts or something like that Yeah, okay. But it's, it, um, the thing about it, I think is because you just see ad after ad after ad after ad, it does kind of feel a little bit. Oh, okay. It does get a bit samie after a while.
Starting point is 00:53:04 Like if you were seeing these maybe, like every week. Yeah. Like on YouTube, there was a handful of ads. Right. Like a five minute block. And then the story kept evolving throughout that way. Yeah. You might be like, oh, this is getting very interesting.
Starting point is 00:53:19 But because it happens. Yeah. Like it's, it's, again, it's quite, it's quite a show. short movie, but the fact that you just see block of ads, then another block of ads, then another block of ads, then another block of ads. But again, like, as an idea, I think it's really fun. It's also not,
Starting point is 00:53:33 it's more of a satire. It's more of a comedy horror than it is like a full horror. Right, okay. All right. Well, I love satire and I always understand it. Me too. I think I definitely understood it. I've watched the Transformers the 40th, the movie, the 40th anniversary
Starting point is 00:53:49 at cinemas. Oh. Because of course it's 40 years. since that animated movie came out and bombed and people were mad because it killed a bunch of the characters, including Optimus Prime and whatever. So it's the same version. Yes. The sound mix in this movie is fucking cooked. In a good way?
Starting point is 00:54:07 No. Oh no. It doesn't, it hasn't cooked. It is cooked. Wow. You're not like they really cooked. No. You're not like Stan Bush really cooked here with the touch.
Starting point is 00:54:17 It's all over the place. And sometimes there's no purpose. So nobody's fixed this. Nobody's fixed it. They should have fixed the stuff. sound. And it was low. So like, if I'm... This isn't the fault of your cinema.
Starting point is 00:54:27 No, no, I hope it's not. Is this the fault in your stars? I hope it is the fault. But, you know, I hope it was the fault of my cinema. But, but of course, there's a short that plays afterwards. We didn't have that problem at all. Which I'll talk about. But, uh, because you know, if you're hearing like the Transformers theme with the credits at the start and whatever, I want that fucking blasting. Yeah. And the same with the touch and whatever. Also, like, and we talked about it on that long ago. It's such a nonsense movie. It makes no sense. Sure.
Starting point is 00:54:53 And it's just kind of jumps from sequence to sequence and Eric Idol's in it. Eric Idol is in it. And there's moments that like, because I never sat down in a movie and watched it. Because you really rocked in and I'm like, fuck, this makes no sense. But also, it's very entertaining for a lot of it. And, you know, there's classic iconic moments. And it has some of the best animation from that era. And then some that is bad.
Starting point is 00:55:19 Correct. And then there's, you know, Rodamus Prime and whatever. and all that shit can... I'm familiar. I had the VHS take. Yeah. And I still believe that Ultra Magnus was a terrible choice as temporary,
Starting point is 00:55:33 very temporary leader. You can't catch the matrix of leadership. And expect it to just work for you as a guy. Well, not even that. Like Optimus Prime goes to hand it to him and he fucking drops it. Mate, no. You cannot be the president of Transformers. Wow.
Starting point is 00:55:49 If you drop it. Also, he dies and they just bring him back. Yeah, they just put him back together. It's stupid. But anyways, because Optimus Prime is the whole thing. Anyway, afterwards, after the credits roll, there is a, like a 10-minute animated short called Optimus Prime Awakening. Yes.
Starting point is 00:56:07 Which is also the last thing that Peter Cullen did is Optimus Prime. I believe. I hope it is because, like, it's really good. Okay. And it's also, even though it sort of verges on like a multiverse afterlife kind of Optimus Prime. Your son did explain it to me. Yes, he did. And then I was like, you have to go to bed because you're going to spend longer than this.
Starting point is 00:56:28 And I said, you can't make me go to bed. I'll stay up as late as I like. Listening to stories of Optimus Prime. So it's an afterlife because it's directly after he dies. And then kind of a reality altering, but also multiverse kind of Optimus Prime narrative, which I know you love multivers. Because it's like Optimus Prime, you've been doing a lot of this shit in a lot of it. And you see you like flash.
Starting point is 00:56:53 Maybe you could get good because you're always dying constantly. Yeah. All the other guys aren't constantly dying. No. You know? It also hints at like... Ultra Magnus only died that once. Then they just put his legs back on or whatever.
Starting point is 00:57:04 Yeah. But it also hints at, I'm not going to spoil it because people could see it or it'll be on YouTube whenever. Add like this is going to, this could continue with something. It's also animated. Like it's the 80s cartoon, but it's 3D and it looks amazing. Oh. The voice acting is really good. Like they get Frank Welker back.
Starting point is 00:57:21 and others, I assume. Frank Walker from National Tiles. But that alone was like... Oh, my old nemesis. That, hello. Good. Megatron here, yeah. But I would have seen a movie of this.
Starting point is 00:57:38 Sure. I mean, I've been wanting to see... Well, that would be expensive. Yeah, but it didn't look as expensive. And hasn't been like... It wasn't expensive as like Transformers 1 or... Because of the length alone, but like the animation style. Yeah, or...
Starting point is 00:57:51 Rotserba, yeah. But, you know, we're probably just going to get another Michael Bay one because why not, I guess. Because that was the thing that was the reason why this movie made a, moves made a billion dollars each. Anyway, should we talk about lanterns? You sort of turned around on that. What?
Starting point is 00:58:06 I don't know. I just don't think they're going to do anything good. All right, then. I don't have faith in it. Okay. Because they keep starting stuff and then stopping stuff. Okay. So it's time for lanterns spoil the talk.
Starting point is 00:58:15 And they ignore the good things. Yes. Lantern's talk. And this is we're going to do spoilers. So this is for up. Up to an including episode five. Which also feels like an entire season in itself. Sure, yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:28 But there's three to go. And we just watched the mid-season trailer. Yes. Which hints at a future, full spoilers here. Yes. And which Hal Jordan is died and is dead. Correct. And you see also the subtitle thing where it's like,
Starting point is 00:58:41 Hal Jordan was called a clone or whatever. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever maybe. Yeah, who know. But I mean, that could just be a production error or something like that. Like that could, that's, you know, what we call a Friday job where somebody's like, You've got to get this done by Monday.
Starting point is 00:58:52 Quickly now. You've got 10 minutes. Yes. But they are going to do some halogram shit. Even the bit, because there's a moment also where he chips a bit of the ring off. Why? Is it to keep a hologram there in the town? Oh, yeah, that is a mystery.
Starting point is 00:59:05 But again, like I said, I think I said to you earlier, earlier in this episode. I think it's just because he's got the iPhone 6 of rings. He hasn't updated it in years. He's like, this is fine. That's why it keeps running out of charge all the time. Yeah. That's why his feet, Sandra, is. impressive as Guy Gardner's.
Starting point is 00:59:23 I don't know if that's the in-universe justification, but I think if they wanted to do an in-universe justification. Like, why isn't he just making big green hands and throwing the bad guys in a space or whatever? He could just be like, because he's... He's got an iPhone, right? Yeah. He can't...
Starting point is 00:59:38 We have to physically keep it connected to the lantern at all times to keep a charge. If he pulls the plug out, he doesn't keep repeating the oath over and over and over again, it discharges in 10 minutes. I saw another theory that he doesn't like doing that, which is another reason. Yeah. And was it you that literally mentioned this episode that, because it would establish a connection with, oh, it doesn't want to do that either.
Starting point is 00:59:59 Yeah. So, because, you know, he did fly all the way to space and back and people were like, why wouldn't he charge the ring? And I agree. And like if there isn't like a good reason, I don't know, maybe it is just like poor thought. But also it's like, like with the comics, the Green Lantern Ring runs out when it's convenient for the story. Absolutely does. Because otherwise it doesn't. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:19 There are technically rules. Yeah. But, yeah, I mean, it runs out when it's convenient for dramatic purposes. And the plan... It's the same with every superhero like that. It's all, you know, the bad guys only bring out the kryptonite when it looks like Superman's going to win an act one. Obviously, he's not going to, you know. Spider-Man's web shooters.
Starting point is 01:00:38 Back when they were mechanical, it was just like, yeah, oh, no, I'm running a web fluid. I don't know, how do it? I can't swing any time. Exactly. Finally, I've got you, Spider-Man, you can't swing any time. and the Green Goblin have defeated you because you can't simply swing any time but so the Manhunter also
Starting point is 01:00:56 was like laying waste to the town to have him you know deplete his ring yes and I mean you would just have had a longer sequence of him depleting his ring like it was always going to end in him depleting his ring correct yes and he was stopping big lasers
Starting point is 01:01:10 and big suicide bombers yeah exactly if you're like oh man this this this show is uncharacteristic of Tom King's writing Oh, there's a bunch of people that look like us, but they're not us. They're actually aliens from somewhere else, and they're in our country, and they just blow themselves up. There it is.
Starting point is 01:01:27 There it is, Tom King. We've got you. No, Mason, I agree with him. Well, right. I agree with everything he's ever done. No, sorry. I see both sides. There it is.
Starting point is 01:01:37 Okay, Ed Shearin. All right, Ed Shearin. Listen, the thing about Ed Shearin is, like me, he understands that in a conflict or a genocide, side. There's two sides. So true, isn't it? What a fucking idiot. Okay, now, theories in terms of what are we got, what are some theories
Starting point is 01:01:59 we can throw out there before immediately proven wrong as the next episode comes out? Some people have said, you know, the reveal, there were a lot of theories about who the Manhunter was, the reveal seems to be it's Zoe. There's a second manhounder. There's second manhunter. It's the boy. It's the kid. It's the... Because I mean, the classic misdirect
Starting point is 01:02:16 because we see in episode five the woman who is to become the sheriff she shows up in the little town she's on the run from some Gotham gangsters and Zoe saves her and you know and she says in the
Starting point is 01:02:32 sheriff says you know in the present day the bandander gave her a miracle yeah and I think oh it's the finger it's the thing because of course what's the character's name I'm going to call a sheriff pre-share sheriff she cuts off her finger to send back with the gangsters to prove that they've done their job.
Starting point is 01:02:51 But actually, Zoe can regenerate that finger quite easily. So we're led to assume that's the miracle. But the miracle is that the sheriff couldn't have kids or the sheriff and her husband couldn't have kids. So that's what Zoe has done for us. So that kid is probably half-man hunter or all man-hunter, we don't know. The internet, including us, have ruined speculation. Correct.
Starting point is 01:03:13 For all. And we don't regret it. No, we don't. We're also seeing the trailer we get the return of Sanestro. He's up to something, isn't he? Yeah. He knows what's up and about. And he's got one of that one bit of fly away hair, back of his head.
Starting point is 01:03:23 Don't do that. Yeah, don't do it. Have some self-respect. Have it all fly away or none of it. That's right. Yeah. There's also a moment we see in the newer trailer where Hal Jordan, he's had the healing process where they take, you see he's got the mark where they took a piece of his DNA,
Starting point is 01:03:39 which also could lead to like clones or whatever. Yeah. Or it could just be that he gets healed at one point. because of the house fire. Or maybe some, you know, some husband is burning with a cigarette. True. You know, stay away from my wife. That's something that could happen to him.
Starting point is 01:03:55 But also, like, there's a moment in the previous episode where John Stewart's saying that, like, you know, you betrayed your oath and whatever. I don't know whether, like, and there's various interpretations of what that could mean. It seems like how Jordan was doing as good a job that he could, that he, that he, I think that's just John Stewart's interpretation. I don't think it's meant to be like, oh, he really because I don't think he did. No, really.
Starting point is 01:04:19 He's very, Hal Jordan is very competent in this show. Yeah. And it seems he goes to jail and takes the fall for like all of this stuff that happened in the town. Yeah. It was fun how we found out the Manhunter's just like, we had a relationship with one, with, um, what's his name?
Starting point is 01:04:34 One of the other alien guys. Antan. Antan, yeah. So like, he saw he wasn't just after the manhander because he's like, this is a dangerous creature or whatever. It's like, oh no, this is something that personally. all right slighted me at one point.
Starting point is 01:04:47 Do you think Zoe's really dead? I mean, she did get a heart pulled out. And it was crystals. So maybe not. Who can say with these funny alien types, you know what I mean? These funny alien types, but yeah. Yeah, I mean, it's, you know,
Starting point is 01:05:00 it's misdirect upon misdirect. That is the Damon Lindelof style. Yeah. The Tom King style is the suicide bomber thing. Correct. Yeah. And doing war crimes and feeling a little bit conflicted about it. You should feel conflicted about it a little bit.
Starting point is 01:05:13 I think so. too. Should we move to the next segment? Yes. Is it more lanterns talk or is it the letters segment? It's the letters segment. I'll play the theme to the letter segment right now. You should play it off your phone.
Starting point is 01:05:22 I'll do it right now. I'm ready. The classic one was, Letters, oh, letters. We love you. Some letters. They're only a day away. I know they're here right now.
Starting point is 01:05:34 We're going to do letters. We watch six Resident Evil movies. I'm not right. In a row. I'm not right. Did you know this week at Big Sandwich. or Patreon.com slash Mr. Sunday Movies, Mason, or YouTube membership. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 01:05:49 I believe it's, we've got to play, we look at the Star Wars episode one, The Phantom Menace Racing game. Oh, very good. You remember that game every day, Mason? Yes. Do you remember when I played it when we recorded and then Fidel edited it? I do remember that, yeah. I mean, I don't remember when Fidel edited it because he did that on the other side of the planet,
Starting point is 01:06:06 but I can only assume he did it if the result is available on big sandwich.com. Fantastic. And other places. That's right. Wow, very good. Yes. So what do you got for us, Mason, in terms of letters? And can people send you an email to WeeklyPontop pod at gmail.com
Starting point is 01:06:20 or Planet Broadcasting Greatmates Group? Can people do that? People can do it and they should do it. I'd encourage it. They'd endorse it. They better. Yeah. Otherwise, we're packing this up. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 01:06:29 Yeah. Get the dog. I was going to say, don't send us dead dogs. I was like, what haven't we looped in yet? We don't want that. That's right. Here's an email from Lewis. Good day, mates.
Starting point is 01:06:38 Have you noticed any legacy sequels to 90s or 2000s movies that come out of nowhere? I don't know if it's because I live in the, UK, but I never heard of practical magic until like three weeks ago with the new one releasing. Are there any legacy sequels to movies you've never heard of before? Thanks, Lewis. Thanks, Lewis. I think increasingly that is going to be the case. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 01:06:56 Because Hollywood, you know, Hollywood isn't out of ideas. The people who make, the people who create things in Hollywood aren't out of ideas, but executives are not interested in those new ideas. Absolutely. So, yes, I think we're going to see more of those, and it's just going to be just people scouring the people scouring pictures of blockbuster shelves
Starting point is 01:07:20 from the 90s going what haven't we done a sequel to and what do we own? Yep, absolutely. Oh God, Mason. Anything, anything jumping out of you? I'm trying to think. I was just doing a quick scan. Executive decision?
Starting point is 01:07:33 Executive decision too. Second executive decision. Okay. We're getting Segal back? I would love a speed sequel. Yeah, okay. Again. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:41 Speed, cool. Again? Yeah. Because Keanu Rives can still do it. But. Yes. What if you did it even more? What if Sandy Bullock did it?
Starting point is 01:07:50 Exactly. What if Sandy Bullock did do it? Get them back together. I would love to see that, actually. But people remember speed. So it's off the table. Oh yeah. We'll make it as legacy cycle to Speed 2.
Starting point is 01:08:00 Yes, that's right. Oh, that'd be fun, wouldn't it? Yeah. Speed 3, we're on a boat again. Because the assumption would be, it'd be back on a bus somehow, right? Nah, man. Get on that boat. Get on the boat.
Starting point is 01:08:12 boat. MFs. Speed three, get back on the boat, MFers. Get on the boat. Yeah. Willem Dofosi,
Starting point is 01:08:18 he's furious. He's furious, he's furious Mason. Yeah, okay. Because of course, Dennis Hopper no longer with us. Yeah, RIP. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:26 Waterworld. Sure. Dennis Hopper. Okay. Easy rider too. Oh yeah. Even easier ride this time. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:34 It's in a car. Not a problem. Yeah, not a problem. Yeah, not a problem, actually. Windows up, boys. Okay, well, look, if we're doing legacy sequels to movies that
Starting point is 01:08:42 Nobody remembers. We're not going to do Waterwell. We're going to do the postman. Yes. Still posting. What was the initial question? Legacy sequels to movies you don't remember. Okay, you know what?
Starting point is 01:08:53 I'm going to bring up a list of legacy sequels. Yeah, okay. And we're going to go, do we remember the... I think Tron counts. Oh, yeah. We've done episodes on legacy sequels. Yeah. No, I guess what we're looking for is forgotten movies.
Starting point is 01:09:08 Yeah. That got legacy sequels. Oh, no, we're looking for... We're looking for forgotten movies that could get... Oh, okay. Well, then I stand by Speed 3, following Speed 2. Yeah. And executive decision.
Starting point is 01:09:18 Nobody talks about Speed anymore, do they? No, they should. It's a good movie. We've even done a movie commentary on it. Oh, BuzzFeed has said 40 weird and obscure 90s movies that basically vanished off the face of the earth. Okay, this is what we're looking for. This is going to help us immensely.
Starting point is 01:09:31 Okay, deep cover with Lawrence Fishburn and Jeff Goldblum. Oh, yeah, and what did they think of it? Police officer... They haven't seen it. This movie's about a police officer who's recruited to go on an undercover. have a mission to win for a trade of drug cartel. No. No, that's not going to work.
Starting point is 01:09:46 Not interesting enough. There's no, it needs to be a broader premise, I think. Did you know that Lawrence Fishburn was going to be in the Jewel's role in Pulp Fiction? Yes, it was written for him, wasn't it? Yeah, and Tarantinoe wanted. Tarantino? Yeah. And the, it was, and the Vincent was going to be, I learned this recently from the Art Tarantino,
Starting point is 01:10:07 subreddit, it was going to be, Daniel Day Lewis wanted it. Oh, really? Daniel Day Lewis wanted it. He actually wanted to do something. But Tarantino really wanted John Travolta, and Lawrence Fishburn's management was like, you can't do it with Travolta. Because that's a bad call.
Starting point is 01:10:25 Embarrassing. Because he's washed up. Yeah. So they got... But now he's not as good. That's right. Pleasantville sequel. Toby McGuire, Reese Spitherspoon.
Starting point is 01:10:35 I remember Pleasantville. Pleasant again, extra pleasant. We're going to be really nice this time. Yeah. It's going to be so pleasant. We're going to be black and white like you wouldn't believe. LA story, I'm going to skip some of these. I mean, that's a premise as well.
Starting point is 01:10:48 Yeah, going into a pleasant. Yeah, yeah. That's like a Jumanji sequel. But do you do like Pleasantville, but you update it where you go into a 90s sitcom? Yes, but they did that with Wonder Vision, I guess. Oh, my God. What about Blue Juice? It's got these guys in it.
Starting point is 01:11:02 That's a fake movie. Oh, my God. He's in Soldier. Is that Catherine Zeta Jones? It is Catherine Zeta Jones. in blue juice. Disgusting. Disgusting.
Starting point is 01:11:14 Robin Williams' toys. No, that movie's bad. The Emma Thompson, Kenneth Branagh movie, Dead again? Dead again. We've dead again. I can't believe it. We've dead again.
Starting point is 01:11:26 We've dead again. Clock Watchers. That's a fake. No, it's got Parker Posey in it. Oh, then that's real. Yeah, that's real. Let's see. Spice World.
Starting point is 01:11:38 Spice World. You could do a Spice Girls legacy sequel for sure. But that's interesting. Everybody remembers Spice World. Yeah, me too. I remember it every day. Yep. You sure do.
Starting point is 01:11:51 Sneakers sequel. Sneakers would be great. I mean, unfortunately, a lot of the people in that movie are dead. Redford died. River Phoenix died. Sydney Porteo died. Sydney Porteo died. Exactly, yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:04 Dan Aykroyd still alive. Dan Aykroyd still alive. Dan Aykis still alive. Ben Kingsley died. Yeah. No, he didn't. Didn't he? Ben Kingsley.
Starting point is 01:12:10 Didn't he? He didn't. He was in a show recently. Was it called Ben Kingsley's big sneakers sequel? Just Ben Kingsley? Because he's the only one who's alive. And now it's a TV show. And Dan Akra didn't want to do it,
Starting point is 01:12:22 even though he'll do anything. That's what it's called. Yeah. Reality bites two. Oh, a second bite at the apple? Second bite at reality bites. We're not a writer. Bring her back.
Starting point is 01:12:34 She's doing stuff now. Oh, but now we're 60. Oh. Shut up. Yeah. up. That thing you do, not really, not really sequel. Also, you got, again, it's that thing of like, you need to write a song that could really be a hit song. And that guy died, so.
Starting point is 01:12:49 The thing you do. Yeah. Die. Cuffs. Christian Slater's Cuffs. What is Cuffs? It's a cop movie, I think. Are you thinking of Cuffs with Christian Slater? Yeah, Christian Slater plays George Cuffs. Oh, no. A high school dropout who joins a private special police force in San Francisco. That's cool.
Starting point is 01:13:08 And his name's George Cuffs with a K. It should have called himself George police officer. Right? Yeah. Right. Great. Sleepers, they did one. Crying game.
Starting point is 01:13:19 It was a man the whole time. Oh my God. I'm crying. That's so cool. Yes. Precisely. Oh my God, I'm crying. Because of the events of the original crying game.
Starting point is 01:13:32 Yeah, I just realized. I just remembered it. It's been a bunch of years, but I just remembered what happened to me. But also it's 2026. Get over it. And also, yeah. Get over it. But people are really weird about it now. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:44 I guess they were weird about it then. Yeah, it feels less so, though, baby. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Things to do in Denver when you're dead? I have a copy of that. I've never watched it. It must be nice. It is nice.
Starting point is 01:13:56 What do you have a copy of that on? DVD. Mason White. Yeah, I don't know. Swingers 2. Andre, the story of the little seal that could. Fuck Andre. Wow.
Starting point is 01:14:07 Stupid-ass seal. Wow. Anyway, that's every movie. That deserves a legacy scene. I agree. Stor my mom will shoot. That's not obscure. No.
Starting point is 01:14:16 Yeah. It's just skewer. It's very secure, isn't it? Yeah, man, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, well, I'll do a letter now. Okay. I've stuck on this stupid letter for too long.
Starting point is 01:14:26 Okay, I mean, good letter. Thanks, man. Jonathan says, in the spirit of the new Resident Evil movie, what other terrible video game adaptations deserve a fresh start? I think Silent Hill in the right hands could make a series. seriously good psychological horror. They just did one, didn't they? Apparently it's one of the worst movies ever made.
Starting point is 01:14:41 Atrocious. There's been three now. They're all different levels. No, the first one's all right. Yeah. Rata Mitchell's in it, maybe. Maybe. Triangle faces in it, the classic character.
Starting point is 01:14:52 Yeah, triangle face. I would agree with Silent Hill. Doom? You could do something, and I'm not talking first person. Yeah, no. But like the idea of opening a portal to hell and space marines and whatever. Pretty cool. That could be a movie.
Starting point is 01:15:05 And I know they also did one a few years ago as well that was. Bad. But I would love a better adaptation of either Prince of Persia or Assassin's Creed. Yeah, okay. Because those are bad. Yeah. In particular, Assassin's Creed, that should be good. Why is that not good? It's wild.
Starting point is 01:15:21 It's not good. Yeah. Because they, I don't know, because the thing about that is that most people are more interested in the historical settings than the boring future stuff with the claw. The big claw. What about you in terms of video games? They should readapt. What about anything that Uvei
Starting point is 01:15:37 Gold has done, any of the damage that he's done, that he's wrought. No, nobody likes any of those games anyway. I'm looking forward to the... No, people don't like the game Blood Rain. They don't. I'm looking forward to the new Tomb Raider. Yeah, me too. Show or movie or whatever it's going to be. I like the last Tomb Raider movie as well.
Starting point is 01:15:54 Is it time for a new double dragon a movie? No. You get some guys who are actual, like... Double dragons. Yes. Two dragons. No, you get some, you get some like the raid style martial artist guys. actually make a good one.
Starting point is 01:16:08 And you call it double dragons. You call it double dragons, exactly. And you put two dragons in it. That's an idea I've come up with. Like, what the hell, man? That's my idea. It's my idea. That's all I can think of.
Starting point is 01:16:21 Yeah. Because most video get, I was like, oh, they should do Mortal Kombat again. How about this? They just do Borderlands again. And it's the same cast and it's the same director. Just bash out another one. I crossed my mind, but like, I don't give a fuck about Borderlands. No, neither do I.
Starting point is 01:16:36 So I don't want to see it Yeah That was the worst movie I've ever seen That's not true It might be It might actually be true Honestly Oh
Starting point is 01:16:47 Well at least he made That director Now made ice cream man And it's AI and shit Whatever That's true AI and shit and whatever Here's an email from Ivan
Starting point is 01:16:58 Evan Evanson Which is a tremendous name Evan Ivinson That's right Hello James and Maso Hello I'm A long time listener First Time writer I think
Starting point is 01:17:05 Whoa. Check the email, maybe he did another one. Let's find out if he's a liar. Okay. As a person who still uses the app that shall not be named, the Everything app, because the algorithm serves me mostly engaging things that fit my interest, I still get thrown off when the loud part of the app's users decide to overreact and hate on something I find fun and cool. The most recent example being the Wolverine game, but I remember being on Twitter when the Last of Us Part 2 came out,
Starting point is 01:17:28 and it helped me get tougher skin when it comes to hearing never-ending negativity towards the thing I personally enjoy. I question you are, at what point in your lives did you start giving less of an F if a large portion of opinions about the thing you like a negative and what is the breaking point for you to stop using a social media app like the everything app? Well, you got banned for crypto scams. But now you're back.
Starting point is 01:17:49 For crypto scabs. Because I promise that I would let everybody in on it. I don't know. Did you, when was the last time you cared about somebody's opinion about something you liked or disliked? Was it before the podcast started or after? No, I do. I care about people's opinions.
Starting point is 01:18:03 So I respect. But even then, like, I want to know their opinion even if it's different. Yeah. Because not to be like, oh, not so I'm like, oh, man. It's just like, oh, okay, that's interesting. But I mean, that's your signature move to be like, oh, man, I don't know. When did you stuff? Like.
Starting point is 01:18:21 My signature move is all. Oh, shucks. Oh, guess. That's my signature move. Yeah, it is. I thought it was something like, hey. It's not. It's like, oh.
Starting point is 01:18:31 Oh. That's our signature move collectively. I'm like, well, I don't know. Like, it's weird that so many social media apps are still hanging on despite the fact that they're garbage. Garbage. Like, because we, were you on MySpace? Like, not really. Right.
Starting point is 01:18:49 Because I was definitely on MySpace and there must have been a period, which point I just was not on it anymore. Yeah. And I don't know when that was. Did they change some big aspect of it? And I'm like, well, I can't be bothered anymore. Maybe it was fake. Because I still look at Facebook, like maybe a couple of times a week, even though it's just AI-generated slop now.
Starting point is 01:19:06 Yeah, but it's fun now. Now it's, well, now it's... And then you send me to stuff, but I like it. Now it's just AI-generated slop from some... It's a, it's... What I see now is a bunch of slop, and it's AI-generated, like, memes that are like, things were back...
Starting point is 01:19:21 It's called... All the pages are called, like, things were better in the old days, and it's about a... Back then you drink from a hose, and now children can only drink a latte or whatever. A $20 latte. The guy complaining about kids don't drink from the hose anymore, but he's yelling at a kid who's literally drinking from a hose.
Starting point is 01:19:40 But the hose is not connected to anything. There is water coming out. It's a magical universe. So it's all that. And they're usually like their bot farms in like Indonesia. Yeah, most of these are from Sri Lanka. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:19:54 Yeah, I don't know. See, that's the thing. I still derive a decent amount of entertainment from, from Twitter. Yeah. You know. I know you, Joe. You're constantly talking about it.
Starting point is 01:20:04 At what point did I start giving a less of an F if a large proportion of opinions about the thing you like are negative? You know what it was? Probably after high school. Yeah, probably. Because there was less danger in like something. Yeah. Yeah, probably.
Starting point is 01:20:17 I don't know when it was. Yeah, maybe even... It's probably like last week. Yeah, it's probably like last week. Oh, man. Oh, man. Oh, man. Oh, man.
Starting point is 01:20:25 Everybody else hates this. I don't know about this, James. Everybody else hates Alien vs. Predator 2, but I think it's pretty good, all right? I don't think it's too dark. Mason, let's get out of here. And then it's the Scooby-Doo running noise. Yeah. We leave the James of Mesa's shaped holes in the wall.
Starting point is 01:20:45 Yeah, I don't know, man. And the clouds of dust that are shaped like us. That's right. Yeah. Interesting. Very interesting. What about this from Yusufu says, what are the elements of a dad movie?
Starting point is 01:20:57 and what are some good examples? I'm trying to find films to take my dad to at the cinema. Impossible to know. You need to know the dad. Even then you can know your own dad for a number of years. And then you don't know what dad likes. And then it'll rip out some movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:11 Why have you seen obsession? Dad. What do you like children of the corn so much or whatever? Yeah, dad. Dad. So I think it depends on what your dad likes. My dad loves Team America World Police. Of course he does.
Starting point is 01:21:22 Yeah. He liked that puppet sex thing because that's the thing that he enjoys outside. of that movie. Correct. Probably correct. I've seen his little mannequin room. But he invited me over.
Starting point is 01:21:35 Okay. But it depends on when your dad was born. Let's not get started on our various families, various mannequin rooms, James. Because we know somebody who has a mannequin room for real. You can talk about it. I don't mind. Let's leave it alone.
Starting point is 01:21:54 It's not my manicure room, just to be clear. It depends on what your dad likes So like my dad And what I consider a dad film Would be like Westerns World War II movies Yeah Something with big machineries
Starting point is 01:22:07 Master and Command of the past Out of the world Yeah But that's my dad Because he was born in the 1940s Yeah So I don't know whether that's Yeah
Starting point is 01:22:16 I mean maybe modern dad's like that movie Where Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn Go to Google Because they'd grown up in that era You know Yeah maybe modern dad's like that shit movie Yeah maybe But dads do.
Starting point is 01:22:27 Sometimes they'll rip out. They'll be like, I like this. And you're like, that was the worst movie ever made. You're talking about the movie Borderlands. What are you talking about? Yeah. Nonsense. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:22:39 Yeah. So it's hard to know. You've got to gauge your dad's interest. What's he up to? What kind of a dad is he? What kind of a dad is he? I mean, I said this before, but my dad liked the movie Titanic, mostly because of the bit where you saw the machinery inside the Titanic.
Starting point is 01:22:55 Oh, yeah, that's right. The big spinning wheels and gears and whatever. I was like, I liked the bit where they went to the mannequin room. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Should we go to the next question? He's an email from Spencer.
Starting point is 01:23:09 Spencer? Tracy. No. Spencer doesn't say. Tracy? Last name not there. Dear James and Mason, a long-time viewer, first-time question asker. What a first-time question askers.
Starting point is 01:23:20 First time for everything. I recently remembered a gem of a book series from my childhood in the US, sorry. called Del Torre Quest by Australian author Emily Rodder. Oh yeah! Without spoilers, the plot follows a grip of youth adventures traveling a... Youth Adventures Traveling a Youth Adventures to claim magic stones to defeat a Sauron-like evil ruler. I absolutely adored this series and continued to be disappointed and never received the same commercial and critical success that series like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson did.
Starting point is 01:23:48 Part of the reason for this is despite, I feel, is despite marketing itself as a children's series, there is a wide array of impalement, death, torture, human trafficking, and incomprehensible horrors maiming children. This only served to make the series more awesome in my 10-year-old eyes, but in hindsight it was pretty crazy some of what they got away with. In particular, there's one scene with flesh-eating plants that is burned into my memory. Have either of you ever heard or read of Del Torquoise? Yes, I have.
Starting point is 01:24:14 I haven't read it, but I have heard of this, yes. Is it common for most youngest adult novels in Australia to have just the most disturbing wildlife and creatures possible in it? Sometimes, for sure, man. Do you remember the space demons? What was space demons? It was a book about kids that went into it, trapped in a video game. A hundred percent, I can picture the cover.
Starting point is 01:24:32 Yeah. And they had like these, and they had like these kind of black cylinder guns. You remember that? You were talking about this book. Yes. Yeah, I read that in grade six. Yeah. And it was also, it was about depression or something.
Starting point is 01:24:45 By Gillian Rubinstein. And they've upgraded the cover and they've made a mistake in doing that. That's bad now. I don't like it now. I don't like it. computer, but also then you become depression or whatever. That's exactly right. And then you had to use confidence and kill space demons.
Starting point is 01:24:59 Yeah, or not. I don't know. Wasn't animorphs quite... Oh, that was dark. Wasn't that quite dark? Yeah, that was killing each other and whatever, wasn't it? I don't know. I think probably my guess would be that...
Starting point is 01:25:11 I mean, animorphs... Yeah. Was Canadian? I'm going to guess that Emily Roder simply did not have the connections to get a Hollywood movie or TV series made. By the guess. I mean, I would, it wouldn't, I mean, it sounds like something that would be, would, uh, would be, uh, you know, a show or a, or a movie or something. I would guess. It sounds expensive for an Australian. Yeah. And I mean, you know, I'm sure they, if, if, if it was brought to the attention to, you know, American producers or whatever, I'm sure they could have found ways to make it, you know, absolutely. Absolutely. Or implied violence and, you know, less, less murdery.
Starting point is 01:25:45 Yeah. I would guess just, you know, ships in the night. Just missed it, you know? Yeah. I think also like, I just think just being Australian means that there's just a budget limitation. A hundred percent, yeah. Animal's not Canadian.
Starting point is 01:26:00 Oh. Just so you know. I've got one from Adam. Go ahead. It says, tell the story of Mesa doing an impression of his old manager ordering a pie and his manager walked in on him, you coward. What? This is.
Starting point is 01:26:13 I wanted to ask you about it. I don't know what that is. My old manager ordering a pie. It's an impression that you were doing if your old manager ordering a pie and then the manager walked in on you. Ordering a pie. You don't really do.
Starting point is 01:26:28 I can't imagine you doing like workplace impressions. No. You kind of like, you know. Yeah. Keep it low key. Correct. From when? What era was this?
Starting point is 01:26:39 I don't know. Ask Adam Cain. Okay. All right. Mystery. My life is full of mysteries, James. Tremendous. Is this maybe something I did?
Starting point is 01:26:51 Maybe. But I don't remember doing this. No. God. I don't know. Maybe somebody in one of our Reddit, subredits or Facebook group knows what I'm talking. Knows what they're talking about. Knows what you're talking about.
Starting point is 01:27:02 He knows what I'm talking about. I'm going to say, this really derailed the podcast. Wow. It's not the dead dog. It's this obscure. reference or lie? Maybe. Maybe you're thinking of a different podcast.
Starting point is 01:27:18 I'm trying to force it. I'm trying to think of like a scenario where I'd be like, hey, hey, what did I order? Also, who's, what kind of pie? Meat pie? Yeah, I don't know, man. Dessert pie?
Starting point is 01:27:31 Where? In what context? At a shop? Did you see your manager do it? And then you were recounting it. Yeah. Or is it like, imagine if you do this. Imagine if Gary ordered a part.
Starting point is 01:27:43 pie, oh, one pie, please. I want pie for me, yeah, I'll be eating a pie. No sauce, thanks. No sauce. Gonna smash it in dry. Smash it.
Starting point is 01:27:54 I'm Gary. I'm Gary, and I love a dry pie. Oh, dry mouth, Gary. No, my secret is my mouth's very wet. That's how I can eat such a dry pie. Oh, man. Anyway, I hope that was what you're looking
Starting point is 01:28:07 for, you're pervert, which is probably what this is, right? I don't know. Yeah. Is that the show? That is the whole show. Good, because we're derailed. Yeah, that's right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:17 Folks, thank you so much for listening. We absolutely appreciate it. Thank you for telling your friends about the podcast because that is how we get new listeners. This is from ACF-120 from the USA says, they know Wigs.
Starting point is 01:28:33 The definitive podcast on fake hair and film, TV, even streaming. This isn't discussed enough. More actors are enhanced than you think, but none of them are getting by James and Mesa's eagle eyes expose big Hollywood hairpiece we will every time. I wonder about that though
Starting point is 01:28:49 maybe the technology's gotten so good we can't tell. Exactly. It's probably at that point isn't it? Yeah and that's when we hang up. That's when we hang up the hair microscopes when we can't even tell. Somebody's going to reveal themselves as wearing a wig and they have to be like, nah man. What have we done? Yeah exactly. Bridge Sella also from the USA says
Starting point is 01:29:07 Zilch, the Mr. Diarrhea is even older than you think. The song you're referenced is actually based on a monkey song called Zilt from 1967, huh? I don't know what this is either. Is this something that you did at work in front of your manager? The character of Mr. Diary. Yeah, oh, you did a Diary.
Starting point is 01:29:25 I don't think so. And it's older than you think. No, that would be unprofessional. It would be unprofessional to do that.
