Welcome back everybody to another episode of The Weekly Planet where we talk movies and comics and TV shows.
My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday.
And with me, as always, is my co-host Nick Mason.
Podcast are interesting, aren't they?
They make you think.
Oh, yeah?
They're all around us in society.
They're all the brownness, are they?
They're all the brownness in society.
And they make you go crazy.
They do make you go crazy.
They make you go crazy.
Not me, though.
Sometimes you see something online and you go, this is real and this is me.
Yeah.
And that's what can happen to you.
I agree with you.
And there are consequences.
Not for us, though.
No.
As the provider of the podcast, there'll never be any consequences for us.
I can't imagine there would be.
Yeah.
No world should we even face any consequences.
I don't think so.
And we're rich.
And we didn't do anything.
That's, I agree.
And our haircuts are good.
I agree.
Yeah.
They're normal.
This is what people are saying.
They're not weird, tiny little bowl cuts that we have.
They're not that.
Some people,
No one's saying it, actually.
I was going to say that no one is saying that.
No one is saying that.
But if you think anyone is going to say that,
I'm going to head you off at the past.
We've got normal haircuts.
And they're not saying that even.
They're not even saying that.
You wouldn't even hear it.
Don't worry about it.
Yeah.
This week, unrelated, but we are talking about the social reckoning.
That's right.
Now, of course, people might be asking, James.
James.
Help.
Where's your lantern's review?
Well, that's now a YouTube video.
We did a separate thing.
It should be up by now.
Sarabi.
has put that together, so really appreciate it.
Because who knows how long this episode could have blown out for.
We're not going to integrate that into the podcast.
I don't think we need to.
It's not important.
I mean, we can.
Should we?
Here it is.
Here it is.
It's just there.
Wow.
Really makes you think, doesn't it?
It really does make you think.
What's great about that is putting that Lantern's review right there.
No consequences.
No consequences.
Because we didn't even do anything.
Our haircuts are normal.
And we don't do anything.
Do you see Joe Rogan signed another Spotify deal?
No.
That's excellent timing for him.
Is it more money than last time?
I think it's about the same.
Okay, good.
I mean, he's proven his value to Spotify, hasn't it?
He certainly has, yeah.
And what he's doing has never had any negative connotations or consequences for anyone.
You've seen the Tim Heidecker recent podcast that he did.
He does like a Joe Rogan.
James, you know I don't listen to a podcast because they destroy your brain.
I would never.
This one will destroy your brain, but in a funny way.
It's like a parody.
He's on number four of like the Joe Rogan experience.
I think it's on, oh, not on Info Wars, because he, the Onion bought Info Wars or whatever.
It's good stuff.
Anyways, Mason, there's other things to talk about other than the decline of society.
We're going to talk about the Paramount Warner Brothers merger.
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
That's separate.
An unvarnished good for society.
Great.
We're also going to talk about the announcement of a new Marvel series, a TV series.
Also, we're going to talk about, like, what's going on with the merger?
Who's staying, who's going on?
Who's responsible?
What's it called even?
I don't know.
No, we'll talk about that.
I would have called it Para Brothers.
Yeah.
Right?
The Parrabrothers.
Mount Brothers?
The Brothers Parra.
The brothers Mount Parra.
Parra brothers Mount.
This is good.
Mount Parra Brothers?
There we go.
There we go.
Got it.
Yep.
Yeah.
I feel like if that had been what they did and they'd bring in a consulting company.
Yeah.
They would have made like $300 million to make that change.
Yeah.
You know, it's HBO Max.
It's Max.
It's max.
back to HBO Max.
That'll be $300 million, please.
I wouldn't mind it.
I wouldn't mind it.
I mean, I've done it for free, but whatever,
I bring me on later for consulting.
Absolutely.
I'll say, keep doing what you're doing.
You're doing a great job.
Wait, let me change this one thing.
Okay, change it back.
Keep doing what you're doing.
You've done a great job.
And your haircuts are normal.
We're going to talk about a production stoppage on the Batman part two.
Oh, yes.
We're going to talk about also potentially,
I don't know whether this is true,
that Stephen Colbert, Lord of the Rings movie,
might have hit a development snag.
Oh my goodness.
And you might be like,
is Michael Bay got to direct another Transformers movie?
I'm always wondering that.
I'm living in hope and dying every day in despair,
but maybe not today.
Wonder no longer.
Oh, terrific.
Because it's maybe happening.
Hussar.
Time goes below if you do want to check it out.
Also worth mentioning because we're talking streetfighter next week,
on Big Sandwich.com or Patreon or YouTube membership,
there's either a street fighter retrospective video
where we talk about street fighter.
Mostly the original one, but not just.
Or we got this covered covered, depending which one happens.
So Fidel did the Street Fighter one, Maze did the We got this covered.
You will see it either.
I just don't know which one's going to be this week.
Yeah.
And you'll be grateful for it.
You'll be grateful and you'll be grateful for Rob Collings for editing this.
Absolutely, we are grateful.
Yeah.
He told me my haircuts normal.
Did he?
Yeah.
Unprompted or?
No, we were in a, like a big, I don't know, like a big kind of.
Like a legal deposition?
Yeah, kind of similar.
Okay.
Maybe like a fake legal deposition?
Yeah, like a fake one.
Okay, like he was coaching you on a potential legal action.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And we'll try and different hairstyles,
and he said all of these hairstyles are normal.
Oh, that's terrific.
Yeah.
Okay.
So that's good.
Okay.
Mason, let's do the New York Comic-Con news.
We're recording this a bit before some of the information about New York Comic-Con is coming out.
So again, if Tom Holland explodes.
Yeah.
We didn't get it.
And we didn't do it.
Yeah, we absolutely we didn't do it.
Yeah.
He's walking the floor at Comic-Con.
Oh, I'm dressed as Spider-I'm dressed as Spider-Man.
I'm having a good time.
Nobody knows I'm actually Tom Holland.
Bang!
What happened?
We don't know.
Was it a fault in the costume?
Was it a fault in Tom Holland?
Maybe.
In his wiring.
Maybe he's wiring, yeah.
Yeah.
Maybe you got too famous and there's only a certain level of fame
a young man can be before they explode.
Bang.
On the floor of Comic-Con.
Bang.
Taking out a big wall of Funko Pop.
Blowing a big cartoon Tom Holland-shaped hole in the big funkos.
pop wall.
They'll memorialize that as a funkopop.
I hope they do.
Yeah.
So there's a new TV series that developed called Zodiac.
It's for Marvel.
It's for Marvel.
So this is the first live action show that's been announced since Ironheart.
So it's been a while.
They've obviously taken a minute to be like, do people like all of these shows?
No, we'll keep going anyway.
Let's just push through.
Let's push through.
I don't think, I haven't read any specific details, but I do know the logo has the shield
logo in it in the A.
And Captain America-ish circle.
Yeah, that's true.
Could be starring Captain America-ish guy.
It could be.
Maybe you bring in John, Johnny Walker.
John Johnny Walker.
John, Johnny Walker.
Yeah.
It's going to be a live-action spy thriller, apparently.
And we'll film next year, but casting will begin over the next couple of weeks,
and this will be out on Disney Plus in 2028.
I want something in the vein of the Winter Soldier.
Do you want something in the vein of secret invasion?
I want something in the vein of secret invasion.
Secret special invasion.
Special boys.
What's going on?
Now, there's a bunch of different...
Zodiac is a...
Maybe a villain or a series of villains in the comics.
Well, that's the thing, because it's a...
It's different stuff, but what I think it is,
is because it's a concept that is free to use.
And every 10, 15 years, Marvel's just like,
can we do a new Zodiac guys?
Like, I think the first Zodiac was literally...
I was going to say, it was literally a gang,
and they were like, they literally had the look of the...
It was a bull guy and a scorpion guy.
Oh.
But it wasn't actually.
actually Scorpion.
It's a different kind.
A different scorpion guy.
And there's been, and then there was a team of
androids and there's another
human team and there's
one.
I think one of them has Nick Fury in it.
So I reckon it's probably that one.
Well, apparently he's coming back for
doomsday or secret invasion.
Which in the comics was a team put together
by time traveling Leonardo da Vinci.
So they're going to put that in?
I hope so.
Oh, wow.
That would be great.
I hope so and I hope that it's referenced in every scene.
They're like, we're going to stop the bomb going off.
And the terrorists are over there being like,
Is that Leonardo da Vinci?
It is made part of me.
Is that Leonardo da Vinci?
It is, yes.
Yes.
It would take too long to explain,
because we've got to diffuse this bomb.
Exactly 1372 or whatever year
Leonardo da Vinci was around.
And then that would be relevant.
Did he make some kind of whirly gig?
Time travel machine.
Of course he did, James.
It's got like bellows and wings.
Actually, I don't know.
I don't know.
Okay.
Because often now they, Marvel, their time travel thing is just like a platform, isn't it?
Yeah, often it.
Yeah, Dr. Doom's platform, Dr. Doom and Reed Richards' platform is usually just like a square.
Yeah, and it just goes on you.
Flat form.
Yes.
Flat form.
Yeah, cool.
Goes on you like one of those plastic laminators and you've gone back through time.
So it's Leonardo da Vinci and like Nick Fury and Dum Dumme Dug and a bunch of other guys.
Oh, wow.
Oh, you know what?
And also you could bring back some of the Howling Commandos.
Oh, yeah.
Neil McDonough.
Neil McDonough.
Neil McDonough.
He's making a meal of his role.
He certainly is.
The guy whose grandson is.
is the principal at Spider-Man school.
Principal Spider-Man, absolutely.
All those guys.
Peggy Carter's a time travel person now, right?
Yeah, throw her in there.
I think probably they might bring...
This feels like it could be a Peggy Carter thing.
Could be a Peggy Carter thing.
I think it might be an Agents of Shield thing.
Oh, absolutely.
I think that would hit very strongly now because I think there's a lot of, you know, a lot of
in retrospect, I think a lot of people are like, man, I liked agents of shield.
It's a shame they haven't done anything with them because of the weird schism between Marble.
TV and Marvel movies and what have you.
So if they bring it back in right now,
I think people will be like, yes.
It's a perfect opportunity to be something good and fun and new.
And you just bring Maria Hill back.
Easy.
Don't even explain it.
It doesn't matter.
Leonardo da Vinci got her.
The bad guys are like,
is that Maria Hill?
I thought she died.
I thought the scroll shot her or whatever.
And then they're like,
but look at Leonardo da Vinci.
That's a good point.
That actually is the weird part.
Can you just hold that thought?
Is that Leonardo da Vinci?
Yes, it is.
It is not a cosplayer, to be clear.
It's interesting.
They banned those after Tom Holland exploded.
Did they?
Yeah, cosplayers are not allowed.
That is the real.
But they know that it was Tom Holland's wiring that did that and not the cosplay itself.
Yeah, but you know, they...
It's like when we have to take your belt off at the airport or whatever.
It's they overreach.
It's Tom Holland's fault.
It's Tom Holland's fault.
Exactly, yeah.
Bang.
Bang, he went.
Yeah, you're right.
Anyway, look forward to this.
If it's good.
I mean, maybe, I don't know.
What is it?
We don't even know.
Maybe it is the weird one where they're all just animals.
Great.
There's a guy and he's a big scales.
Oh, a big scales.
I'm big scales.
I'm big scales.
I'm Aries or whichever one's the big scales.
Oh, yeah.
Look out.
Well, there's other stuff happening.
They apparently showed a trailer for Daredevil season three.
We're Matt Murdox in jail and whatever.
Not to spoil the last season, but maybe it ends where he ends up having to go to jail.
Wow.
Unpaid parking tickets.
Maybe.
He's been to jail before, hasn't he?
And he shouldn't even be driving.
He's blind.
Yeah, I know.
Yeah.
Sorry, I know that's able to stop.
I guess he can drive.
He should be able to drive.
I mean, he should be able to drive.
I mean, he should be able to drive.
But you can't, he can't, I guess now he can.
He'd be an excellent driver.
If he's revealed that he's Daredevil to the public,
I guess they can provisionally give him a driver's license.
Who's even driving in New York these days?
Daredevil, born against season three, driving instructor episode.
Where he's doing the lessons or he's taking the lessons?
I don't care.
They should make him take the lessons.
He shouldn't have to.
He's got sonar.
Right?
He doesn't even need that backing up camera or whatever.
He doesn't need any of it.
If anything, the beeping noise would throw him off.
He'd go, ah!
And it'd be like in the movie where it's,
Like all the rain is pounding.
I'm like, ah!
My world is like fire!
Matt, we just see the reverse parallel park so we can just take this box.
You just have to do a 15 minute reverse.
This is my last one for the day.
I'll just...
I'll sign you off, it's fine.
Look, put your hands on your ears and put your elbows on the steering wheel.
10 and 2. Elbows at 10 and 2.
Hands on the ears.
Hands on the ears.
So we also saw the Vision Quest got some first reaction.
I don't think the entire thing has been shown to critics,
but people are saying good.
All right, they're good.
We'll say, it does look good, but we'll wait and see.
Speaking of good, we talked about this last week
about the Paramount Warner Brothers merger.
That's good.
So it's how much a merger is just like a murder.
Yeah, a swallowing, an all-encompassing,
and an anacondering.
We're a Paramount, where the David Allison family,
including Larry Allison, who now own this media company
in addition to TikTok and a bunch of other stuff.
That's fine.
You should be able to own
as many different media platforms
as you can swallow up.
I think so too.
Yeah, that's good.
But yeah, there were some questions
about, well, what's going to be called what?
Well, Paramount and Warner Brothers
will deliver output commitments,
including a minimum of 30 high-quality
theatrical films per year
plus 180 plus television shows and series.
That's a commitment to you,
the viewer and listener of this show.
It's like too many. I'd rather have like four good ones.
No, this one's third.
But wouldn't you rather four good ones
or 30 high-quality things?
theatrical releases.
I mean, it depends how you
define quality, doesn't it?
Yeah.
That's like more than one
every two weeks.
Yeah.
All right, good.
From one company.
Very good.
And they're high quality.
And they're high quality.
Yeah.
High quality.
That's quality.
This is via their website.
The combination builds on the
story history of two of the world's
most recognizable
entertainment companies
forming a single
creative powerhouse.
I quote here from David Allison.
We never,
we never want to
a new corporate, we never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish alter overshadow either
one. Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company and identity of its own.
That name is, of course, the name of his company, Skydance.
Terrific.
But I think that's just the parent company name and Warner Brothers and everything else will keep
its own.
Yeah, of course.
Logos.
Oh, yeah, we love those logos.
Keep your own logos, man.
I mean, I certainly have they, you know what I want?
I don't care about 30 high-quality movies.
I want 30 movies where the logo comes up and then it takes.
turns into something relevant to the movie.
Absolutely.
That's all I want.
That's all I want.
You know?
Both of us want the same thing.
Turns around and you're in the Matrix.
It doesn't matter if it's a Matrix movie.
It doesn't bother me.
And they do own the Matrix, so they can do that.
God, I mean, the first movie they did, and people know this, it's the movie Fly Boys,
which David Ellison starred in James Franco from 2006.
There's been clips of that going around recently.
I said David Ellison's a good actor.
He's a good actor, it looks like.
That's good.
They did true grit.
That was a good movie.
Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, good movie.
I mean, you know, they've produced some good movies.
But also Bad Robot did that.
They did Jack Reacher the movies.
They did G.I. GeoG. Retaliation.
Good movie.
They did Star Trek Into Darkness.
Good movie.
Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit.
Did they not do the other Star?
Did they not do the other Star Trek movies?
They did the one after that.
They did Terminator Genesis.
Oh, yeah.
One of the best ones.
They did the Bay Watch movie.
They did Geo Storm.
Annihilation.
That's a good movie.
They did Gemini Man.
Gemini Man.
Gemini Man.
man, what are you doing here?
Remember that line?
Yeah.
He was there to do a...
But, you know, another...
It's not a terrible...
No.
Slate.
I mean, there's, you know,
there's few major...
You like the old...
Oh, they did Matchbox, the movie.
That just came out.
Just came out and people are loving it.
People are saying, is this a real movie?
Yeah.
No.
People are saying, am I in McDonald's right now
because I'm loving it?
The Matchbox movie.
Is that what you've been saying?
I've been saying that, yes.
I've seen it.
I've seen it.
I was speaking of Warner Brothers
and Paramount and Water.
people might have seen this,
but our caravanagh garbage video
on Blade Runner 2049
has been removed
in a lot of territories around the world.
A Warner Brothers property.
Yeah.
But this time it's just by some Rando.
Yeah,
but I think they outsource it
to Rando.
Oh, terrific.
So that's what's happened here.
Terrific.
It's by, which group is it?
This is making a Lassow group.
Yeah, that's right.
It's making it more difficult
to not talk about Warner Brothers property
that constantly get copyright struck
unjustly.
Yeah.
Because now everything's a Warner Brothers property
with a logo that turns around.
It all turns around.
I mean, surely YouTube at some point, or Google will have to, like, do something about this?
Because it's happening.
I know, I know.
That's what's going to happen.
I know.
Surely YouTube's going to do something.
I mean, if it's affecting there.
And then he was hit by a truck.
And those were his last words.
And the truck said sent via YouTube.
Yeah.
Surely YouTube's going to do something about this situation I'm currently in, my impending doom.
They did do something.
They hit me with a YouTube truck.
They did send you with, they did send the YouTube truck.
It was filled with one 10,000 flavor.
or whatever.
Diamond's play buttons.
Hell, yeah, we had to pull one out of his skull.
I don't know why I'm in the coroner's office, but all right.
No, hey, why not?
Bring you down.
You'd have fun identifying my body.
Maybe they show a series of bodies and they're like,
which one is he made?
Catch your feet.
And I have to be like, I don't know, man.
Didn't see a lot of his feet.
Didn't see a lot of his feet, honestly.
But I mean, make one,
I mean, that one's got a toe ring.
That seems like something he would do.
Slightly webbed toes.
Slightly webbed toe.
Good.
I'd have the flashback where you're like, well, my family has slightly webbed toes, toes, toes.
And I'd be like, that one.
And he's got a toe ring.
The duck feet won.
Yeah.
Sorry, no, that's an actual duck.
Also buy a T.
Well, you get the $10,000 consolation prize.
Goodbye.
Goodbye.
Yeah.
T.
are also saying that James Gunn and Peter Saffron,
who of course, in charge of the DC cinematic universe,
they are staying on board.
Multiple sources tell the Hollywood reporter
that the duo met with Allison in person Thursday
and that the meeting was positive.
The pair was asked to stay on and keep doing what you're doing.
They are also contracted for, I think, until the next year.
Okay.
And depending on how Clayface and then Man of Tomorrow goes,
and just political leanings in general.
For sure.
We'll just see what happens.
Yeah.
But I do want Zach Snyder to return and make the dark.
night returns.
Absolutely.
So, you know, and then I get hit by that truck.
I don't even get to say it.
Hopefully, you know, that famous tweet of James Gunn doesn't surface where he's like,
David Ellison can suck my big fat butt.
As much as I love the movie Fly Boys from 2006 and I do.
Yeah.
That said, the executives, the executive's fortunes could turn swiftly as my big fat.
Of course they could.
As is their whim.
That's right, because Abdi and DeLuke.
are examples of that.
They're out.
They were in charge
of the film slate at Warner Brothers.
They were led to believe
that they would still be
their post merger.
You fools.
They met with David months ago
and felt secure
and clearly a lot has changed since then.
That's the thing you should
have had a meeting
with David Ellison,
not David months ago.
Yeah, come on, man.
It's not even a real guy.
Who are you meeting?
Who are you meeting?
Where were you meeting him?
Yeah.
If anything, that's probably
one of Leonardo da Vinci's
time travel nemesis.
It's me, David months ago.
So I think it's as a result of the Water Brothers slate this year, which has been dire.
Yeah, 100%.
I mean, Digger was the latest and it's got to lose $250 million.
Latest and greatest.
It's unknown who...
Supergirl sank like a stone.
Yeah, exactly.
Et cetera.
There are other examples.
It's unknown who Gunn and Safran will report to, whether it be straight to Ellison
or will be layered underneath with Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg, who are now taking over.
The current Paramount Filmheads, so they're the current Paramount Film Hens who oversee both film studios.
We don't know who they're going to report to if anybody.
Will it be, it makes sense if it was straight to Alison, I guess.
Oh, yeah.
Because, you know, Kevin Feigy reports straight to whoever's the head of Disney at this point and they're similarish roles.
Yeah.
We'll see what happens there.
I'm just excited.
I'm excited too for movies.
Both of us are excited.
High-quality movies?
30.
Those logos changing?
30 movies.
30 high-quality movies.
Yeah.
That's all I need every year.
just 30 good movies.
What about this?
What if the Skydance logo, let me finish,
morphs into the Warner Brothers logo.
I'm listening.
And then it morphs into the Paramount logo.
I'm listening.
And then it morphs into giving the finger to you, the audience.
I'm listening?
That's it.
She says, we got you.
Yeah, we go.
No more movies.
Surely, I say surely, this isn't going to happen.
Yeah.
There must be a tipping point.
Must there.
Bearing in mind what happened to you in the movie.
the truck.
Thanks, David months ago, because you know this is going to happen to be or whatever.
I mean, it has happened before where there's legislation put in place which will break
up monopolies.
Sure.
I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.
No.
Like, obviously, who's the, Gavin Newsom had an opportunity to step in for this.
And so did other people around the world, because it also happened in Europe and Australia,
where, you know, this had to be approved.
And it hasn't.
And I just, look, I don't.
I don't think it's going to happen.
But, like, there must be a breaking point for shit like this, right?
Maybe.
Whether it just be financial, where it's like, you cannot sustain this.
I think the answer might literally be one.
Because there's a, I believe there is four major movie studios left.
Great.
It's this and Sony and Apple and two others.
Yeah.
And I suspect when it gets to, when it gets to one, like there's two left,
somebody might stop that one merger.
into one movie studio that makes all the movies.
But then again, maybe they don't.
But are they 30 good movies?
No, they're atrocious.
30 atrocious movies.
They're all Christmas movies.
That's not so bad, I guess.
Starring Chris Evans and he's slumming it.
No, I don't like that as much.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Are these all Red One sequels, or are they different Christmas movies?
They're different, but they could technically all take place in the same Red One universe, I guess.
So he's just got that brown clothes.
Yeah, and there's a...
And there's a big man.
And there's a big man.
There's a big man.
Sometimes it's Santa.
Sometimes it's Santa's friends.
Sometimes it's John Cena.
Sometimes it's The Rock.
Sometimes it's Dave Battista.
Yeah, sometimes it's those guys.
Sometimes it's an AI Hulk Hogan.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And sometimes it's a Christmas multiverse.
And they're like, I'm going to deliver the presents.
Well, it'll be me.
I'll do it though.
This sounds great.
Yeah, it's good, isn't it?
Yeah, what you're explaining to me is good.
And all these movies are fake also.
Yeah, they're not real.
No.
And you'll watch it and you go, why am I watching this?
And you'll be on your phone.
Yeah.
Christmas movie. Different Christmas movie.
Really good.
Deadline also reporting that the Batman
Part 2 production has stopped temporarily.
This is their statement. Production
on the Batman Part 2 has been temporarily paused
while Matt Reeves, who's the director, focuses
on a family matter. Matt has the full support
of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing
the journey soon.
We don't know what this is.
Correct. There's been speculation and rumors about
what's going on, but he obviously
wants to keep whatever this is private.
principal photography for this did start in June of this year.
We don't really know how long's left,
but obviously they're a fair way into it at this point.
We don't know whether this is going to mean the movie is delayed
as it's already been delayed like multiple times in the lead up to this.
I also think if he pauses long enough,
there's a good chance that they will just replace him.
Sure, yeah.
Which is what they did with Zach Snyder and the Just League movie and whatever.
But I think that would be unwise.
I mean, if you waited this long,
you may as well, right?
I think at this point it's going to be two movies.
You know, it's going to be the Batman and the Batman Pie 2.
I don't think this is going to be a trilogy.
I don't think so, no.
I think you might be right.
I mean, Patinson is sort of, he's mentioned that he's sort of aging out of the role.
He's like, I'm 50.
Yeah.
I'm 50.
I'm 50 and I'm normal.
He's normal and greasy and normal.
This is supposed to be out February 18th of 2020.
That is still the release date as of now.
I hope whatever it is, he's all right.
Me too.
Yeah.
And also the people around him, just to be.
clear, not just him.
Oh yes, no, yeah.
Yeah, just to be clear.
Are you familiar with Knight's Edge Media?
No.
They're not familiar with you either.
Wow, I bet maybe they are.
I bet somebody who works at Knights Edge Media is very familiar with my work.
So, Stephen Colbert's...
Wait, what are they?
They're a website.
They do sometimes do scoops.
Sometimes they're real, I guess, I don't know.
Knights Edge with a K?
Yes, canite's Edge.
Canites Edge?
You know Stephen Colbert has a Lord of the Rings movie called Shadows of the past?
Sort of...
Well, apparently...
Well, maybe not, though.
It hit a development speed bump.
Now, the movie was rumoured to begin filming after the hunt for Gollum ended.
Yes.
Which is currently filming.
But now they're saying with the merger complete, the Warner Brothers, etc.
It's not a merger.
It's just a swallowing.
Just the swallowing.
The big swallowing and ing.
Colbert is once again at the mercy of CEO, David Allison,
even though he was working on the movie for Warner Brothers.
So, yeah, that was also part of the reason why his talk show was scrapped.
Yes, exactly.
Yeah.
It's interesting because I feel like.
David Ellison would be friends.
The Ellison's would be friends with Stephen Colbert's
like conservative talk show host persona.
Yeah.
But not the man himself.
Interesting.
Yeah.
The film hasn't been cancelled,
but apparently it hit major development speed bumps.
They're still working on drafts,
but it's not expected any time soon.
The studio simply doesn't see the Lord of the Rings,
doesn't see Lord of the Rings as profitable as it once was
and wants to see how the Hunt for Gollum does
before Green Lighting more projects.
Yes.
I think it's also maybe it's not as profitable because they haven't
anything good.
Oh, maybe, sure.
Since the Lord of the Rings movies.
Why, just because my memories of the last Lord of the Rings based thing I saw in the
cinemas was quite bad.
And I'm like, this is awful.
This is awful.
This is awful. This Hobbit thing is they've really dragged out this children's book in
the three movies.
This is upsetting.
I don't remember.
I couldn't tell you what your thoughts were on those movies.
I don't think I liked them.
We did do three videos on them.
Yeah, I think they're bad.
We think we said, but they're bad the whole time.
But that being said, there's an update on the website.
Warner Brothers reached out to reiterate that they have not canceled it and it's still
in development.
So, and they said, well, as we wrote, it wasn't cancelled or canned.
Well, as we wrote, all right.
Which leaves the door after the still being made.
I think there's a good chance that this is canned.
Oh, for sure.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Do you remember the synopsis?
No, I was just going to ask.
Okay, I'm ready.
Okay, so 14 years after the passing of Frodo.
Okay.
Remember you got on that boat?
Never had a big sook.
Well, he died after that?
Yeah, he went to the undying lands to die.
Don't you know anything?
Sounds like a tautology to me.
Go to the undying lands to die?
Yeah.
Wow.
I guess the lands.
Look, it doesn't matter.
The lands don't die
The lands don't die
But the man's can die
The man's can die
That's what they say
Don't they?
Yeah
That's what they always say
Especially they'll die
If they let me into Hobbit
Because you know what I'd do
I'd kill all those little holler freaks
Yeah
People think
Aha James he's having a joke
He wouldn't couldn't really
I could
I could I 100% back myself
I could do it
Alright
Just to be clear
Yeah
Yeah
Sam Mary and Pippin
Set out to retrace
The first steps of their adventure
Meanwhile Sam's daughter
Eleanor
Has discovered a long buried secret
And it's determined
to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began.
That's interesting to both of us.
There are chapters of the book, of course, which are untouched, including the Tom Bombadil's shit.
Tom Bombadil.
So it seems like at the moment, if you want to hear a Lord of the Rings stories, it's going
to be an in-between sequel at the start of the First Lord of the Rings book.
But this is not from a book specifically.
I think some of it will be.
So they're going to retrace their steps, and I think there's probably going to be flashbacks.
So like, remember when this happened?
I remember this.
The Shire
Go on
I remember this because we're here now
The Shire's in danger
Yeah good
Yeah good
I mean James is here
Yes that's right
Wow
Wow
Not a wizard
Just a very angry man
He's got a cricket bat
That's right
Wow
Perhaps he wants to play a quick over
I do want to play a quick over
Yeah
Oh no
He's killing us all
And doing it
really well.
I don't care about this.
Wow.
But I do like, whenever I see those Hobbit guys together, even now, I'm like, there we go.
Look at those hobbit guys.
These guys hang it out.
Oh, they've got lifelong friendships, don't they?
They seem like fun.
Seemed like fun.
So, you know, whatever.
More Lord of the Rings or less Lord of the Rings.
Doesn't matter to me.
Yeah.
Doesn't matter.
Doesn't matter to me.
That could maybe the other sky dance slogan.
Doesn't matter to me.
Just, you know, they could, they could.
do those vox pops interview people on the street
and they're like, doesn't matter to me!
And then they put the slogan there.
Excellent.
Good.
How do you feel about Skydance?
They're going to produce 30 hard quality movies every year.
Doesn't matter to me.
I'm on my phone.
I'm gambling.
You are gambling.
Oh, man.
So we've also got Transformers News via page 6 and deadline.
Oh, yes.
No missed calls.
I don't know.
Interesting.
No missed calls and nobody's calling right now.
No one's calling right now.
Well, all right.
I mean, we don't normally record today, so maybe...
Yeah, maybe that's...
They don't realize that they're in.
If I get a call during the week...
Yeah.
From deadline, I'll pass along their threats to you.
Maybe they're hiring some, like, a truck driver or something.
They're busy.
It might be.
Doing recruitment for that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So there is going to be a new Transformers movie.
We know this.
Oh, wait, let me just check page six of the newspaper I'm looking at.
James, you've seen this?
Says you're dead.
What?
Yeah.
In the newspaper?
They're threatening you.
Wait, they're threatening me.
or I am dead.
They're threatening you.
Okay, cool.
So it's like you're dead, mate.
It's a picture of the YouTube truck,
and it says next one's coming a lot quicker
than this one, which is a still photo.
Just to be clear, that's a different YouTube truck
because it says the next one,
so there's two at least.
There's at least two.
Okay.
Yeah.
This is great.
Anyway.
Yeah.
Can I borrow that newspaper after you?
I like to know what's happening in the world.
I guess you can have my second hair newspaper, sure.
If that's what page six is, I don't know.
Is it?
Yeah, I don't know.
So Stephen Spielberg, this Transformers movie, is returning to produce.
Apparently, he's going to focus on the creative aspects of the next live action Transformers film.
Oh, yes.
Sorry, I just got a text.
It was unrelated.
Wow, all right.
We'll focus on the creative aspects of the next Transformers film, which he did for the first and second.
I don't know how much he actually did, creative-wise.
I reckon they probably said.
I mean, I would...
Do you want robots in this, Steven Spielberg?
If we must.
I also suspect if you just have Steven Spielberg around,
everybody is compelled to lift their game.
Yeah, things get better.
Yeah.
Like Stephen Spielberg was not around for the subsequent movies,
and that's where the transformers just stopped transforming.
Or they transformed by turning into cubes or whatever.
You think it was his idea to make them transform?
Because it was like, it's in the name.
Well, yeah, but also...
It's like jaws.
It's in the name.
Yeah, it is in the name.
Yeah, it is in the name.
It's like Minority Report. It's in the name.
But I think as soon as he left, they went, let's goof off.
He's not looking.
Let's have him not transformed.
Stephen Spielberg's not looking.
Let's make four terrible movies.
Stephen Spielberg's not looking.
Let's put in some kind of fake legal mandate where you can sleep with an underage girl.
Stephen Spielberg would stop that.
Stephen Spielberg's not looking.
Here's a list of other awful things in all the Transformers sequels.
Steven Spielberg's not looking.
here's noble hero Optimus Prime saying,
give me your face,
and tearing another robot's face off.
That's good.
So it's going to be written by Wonder Woman writer
Jason Fuchs.
But of course, the big news is that Michael Bay,
director of the...
There's six, right?
Five.
Five.
That's five.
There's five.
Resident Evil was six.
This is five.
This is five, yes.
Michael Bay is in early talks to return as director.
Hazzar.
I know they think that this is the answer.
to like their Transformers.
Because Michael Bay movies made big money.
Subsequent movies did not make big money.
So the connecting factor there is Michael Bay.
You've got to bring Michael Bay back and then they'll make big money.
I think it is possible though if they're making this like a legacy sequel,
which it would be at this point.
Which I call a legacy sequel.
Thank you.
Where you'd get like a Shilabuff.
Yuck, obviously.
Preferably not.
But I can see them doing it.
And Megan Fox and like Josh Dumel and whoever else is in the Anthony Hopkins,
maybe a Mark Wahlberg.
I don't know.
I'm guessing it's going to be based around some returning characters.
Let me, let me hit you with this quote, James.
Yeah.
I ate the whole plate.
Again.
Again.
He's back, that guy in the room.
To eat another plate.
He's back and everybody stands up in the theater and they scream and yell and they throw
their plates of whatever.
Yeah.
That they've also eaten the whole plate of.
They brought it and they ate it.
All that's known about this, they don't know which continuity it's in
because there are separate, the bumblebee movie and The Rise of the Beast
in a separate universe than the
Michael Bay ones.
But also maybe, who knows?
None of those original movies
are also in the same universe.
Yeah, that don't work to you.
It didn't fucking connect properly at all.
But we know that apparently
it's set in the modern day.
Because the last one,
the bumblebee was in the 80s,
then the one after that was in the 90s,
and then there was an animated movie or whatever and etc.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, look, this will be bad.
Oh.
Oh.
But I don't know.
Maybe it will.
Maybe it is a negative Nancy over here.
Maybe it is a billion dollars.
You know, at this point?
Yeah, I mean, maybe that's, maybe it is a case of people like, oh, Michael Bayes back.
Well, Michael Bayes back, so those were billion dollar movies, so I better go and see this
billion dollar movie.
Yeah.
I am kind of excited for like, what kind of shit's going to be in this one?
Yeah.
Because for every one of them, there's like, okay, where's the, I was going to say one weird thing.
There's more than one.
Yeah.
Like what's in the current zeitgeist.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
What? Probably a guy going, leave Britney alone.
Some fingers on the pulse.
Something like that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And that what comedic actors, like, will they get in like Andy Daly and have...
They'll get Andrew Shelds.
Yeah, and have them like not do jokes.
Yep.
Just noise.
Yeah, absolutely.
Just an annoying guy.
Yes, James.
Those movies are just annoying guys, right?
I'm aware.
I've seen them.
And then it'll cut to Optimus Prime and it'll be in the desert with three other
transformers, it look like fucking
standing around, jagged piles of vomit.
They're like, we have to get the
Cybertronian spear to the
portal of destiny.
Cybertron's coming, which is good or bad.
And the Earth is Unicron.
Follow up to that.
Follow up on that, please, if you could.
The Earth is Unicron.
Oh, the Earth was Unicron, wasn't it?
But Unicron went to get Earth
in a previous movie, didn't it?
Yeah. Or
Cybertron returned, which was
good, but then another movie, it was
bad.
Yeah, quintasons.
The quintasons were there.
Anyway, of course, Peter Cullen has passed away so can't voice Optimus Prime.
People are saying, well, there's rumors already.
I don't know.
It's probably bullshit, but it could happen, that Chris Hemsworth will take a $50 million to do it,
yeah.
Yeah, because he was, of course, Optimus Prime and Transformers 1.
Also, like, if you think, like, if you transformed Optimus Prime into a man, he would look like
Chris Hemsworth.
I agree.
It's got that build, that Dorito build.
Dorito build.
I would prefer just an AI Optimus Prime, Peter Culler.
A Dorito on some chicken, like some chicken...
Yeah, totally, yeah.
Will they do that or will they AI Optimus Prime?
Will they Peter Culler?
Because I think there's actually a picture...
I mean, whatever...
I mean, given it is a Michael Bay production and whatever...
Is he anti-A-I though?
I don't know.
I think he might be.
Maybe.
I mean, he says that now.
Maybe he's anti-A-I.
I mean, he feels like a guy who might be anti-A-I because he's...
He's met some people of pro-AI and he wants to be...
He says it doesn't...
He just imitates, creates a whole bunch of lazy people.
Okay, but...
Think about this, James.
Maybe he said that before somebody came up to him and went,
here, I've got an app where you can make Peter Cullen Transformer say anything.
Yeah, and you don't have to give Chris Sims worth a $20 million.
Yeah.
And he goes, wah!
That's good.
That's good now.
Yeah.
What I think.
Well, button my shirt and call me Michael Bay.
No, unbuttoned.
unbuttoned my shirt and call me.
Great.
This is three years away, I guess, if this one's the real one that's going to happen.
Not close enough.
I say rush it.
I agree.
Rush it, give us more Transformers.
I can't believe I have to break this news to my son, a Transformers fan.
He's going to be devastating.
Maybe you'll have aged out of it in three years.
I hope so.
I really hope so.
Yeah.
Otherwise, it's going to be like a very strong transition to not being a Transformers fan.
Just two and a two hours.
45 of torture and then he's like,
Dad, can you get rid of these?
Can you give these to poor unfortunate children?
Yeah.
God.
Well, it's an everlasting brand.
It's an evergreen brand in a way.
Agreed.
All right.
Should we move to the review that we're doing?
Move to a review.
The social reckoning.
Go on.
On a budget, they say, between 30 and 42 million
and then marketing, etc.
Making posters with somebody's face and it says,
isn't Facebook bad for you?
haven't you had more than your recommended daily dose of Facebook
actually this news is wrong
here's a picture of somebody
they're eating a big bowl of cereal they're getting big and fat
but the cereal's Facebook likes
they're reading too many Facebook likes
and they're getting big of fat
Did you think of that then, that social satire?
I did think of that, yeah
That social satire you've done
And outside there's all these zombies walking around
and they're looking at Facebook
Yeah, but it wouldn't be like a sunny day or anything, would there?
It's a very lovely day.
It's a lovely day.
But they know that, right?
They wouldn't know that because they're looking at their Facebooks on their phones and getting likes.
Oh my God.
And they're liking, guess.
Let me finish, James.
I paused.
They're liking pictures of the sun.
They're liking pictures of the sun on Facebook, but they're not looking at the sun in real life, which is what they should be doing.
Like the sun in real life.
Hashtag like the sun in real life.
Yeah.
We've done it.
In the US, this has got to open to about $7 to $8 million.
So not big.
The first one, because this is a sort of sequel, the Social Network, opened a $22 million in 2000.
It's almost a legacy.
It is.
Open to $22 million in 2010.
Okay.
You know, inflation, etc.
And it made $225 million in total.
I don't think this is going to do that.
It's also up against the movie Digger.
That's true.
Which is being currently dragged out of cinemas.
They're having a flop off.
Well, Digger cost $250 million.
This didn't.
Yeah, that's true.
And Other Mommy, which is a movie that apparently is a very good.
Why isn't that movie called Other Mother?
I don't know what to tell you, man.
Americans.
Yeah, American stuff.
Anyway, what do you think the story was?
Oh, come on, man, all right.
So, you know, Facebook's really good.
No.
No, Mason.
I don't actually.
Wow.
Yeah.
Well, you'd have to disagree with Francis because she loves her job.
Did you know that?
She loves it.
At Facebook.
She loves working at Facebook in the Ethics Committee or whatever, integrity or something.
Integrity Committee and doing good deeds and good data.
She loves connecting people.
Yeah.
That's important because she tells us every 10 minutes.
It's important for her to not know anybody in real life or interact with anybody at all other than herself and Jeremy Allen White.
And some Facebook employees who don't like her.
They don't like her.
Because they're all terrible, but in a different way.
They've got different things going on.
They've got different things going on.
They've got sneers.
And it's the year 2019, isn't it?
Oh, a million years ago.
Sometimes it is, but then sometimes it's a little bit further in the future.
Yeah, that's right.
And then it goes back to 2019.
And it goes a little bit further in the future.
Then it goes like 2021.
Yeah.
It goes back to 2019.
It's crazy.
But Francis, she's got a lot of stuff to say.
She's looked at all the docks, all the internal docks.
Yeah, and everything looks good, right?
Everything's bad.
What?
Yeah.
They don't, this has been used to the people that Facebook.
She's trying to get it out there.
She's going, she's going to Facebook.
She's the heads of Facebook.
And she's like, I've done this.
extensive research and I've found
64% of our users, they actually are looking
at a picture of the sun and liking a picture of the sun
on Facebook and their phones instead of looking at the sun
in real life and liking the sun in real life
and they're like, we don't want to hear it
because that makes us big bucks for Big Mark
Zuckerberg. There he is.
Hello? I'm a caricature of a man.
Which is kind of what I'm like
in real life. Yeah, I mean it's accurate, isn't it?
I'm unpleasant.
I haven't had my hair cut yet. I haven't
done my Brazilian karate in my
in my dressing gown yet that's later.
I'll tell you what, Jeremy Strong's really nailed this.
He's unpleasant.
But somebody does want to listen.
Who is it?
That's Jeremy Allen White.
Yeah, he plays another guy.
Yeah.
The bear.
Yeah.
And he's like, I'm going to eat up all your stories.
I got to diversify.
Yeah.
I'm going to eat up this store.
I'm going to get Facebook.
Yeah.
Why?
Just feel like it.
I got, I got a minute.
I got stuff to do.
I got, I got to prove my worth.
I'm going to prove my worth in the tough business.
of the dying media industry?
I'm going to irreversibly and irreversibly stop Facebook.
And then if you cut to the modern day, everything will be fixed.
I'm going to do that now with a series of articles about how Facebook is bad
and making teen girls kill themselves and making people storm the capital and whatever.
Shit like that.
Normal stuff.
Normal stuff.
Normal stuff.
That a company could do.
Yeah.
And so it's about this real life investigation of sorts and also which, you know,
And then that happened and what's going on?
Facebook, bad stuff and whatever.
Bad stuff.
Sucks.
Fucking hated it.
The movie.
I didn't like it at all.
I watched the social network in the lead-up, which is not always entirely accurate.
But it is like it moves at a clip.
Yep.
It's funny.
It's engaging.
It really kind of says something and it said something before something was being said.
Oh.
About.
But did it do anything?
No.
There you go.
But it's not, I don't think that movie's job was to do anything.
If anything, it made Mark Zuckerberg look better than he is.
Yeah.
Even though he's terrible in that movie.
Yeah.
I think the perception of him in that movie is that, oh, he's kind of an awkward nerd and he made some bad decisions where in real life he's a fucking horrible ghoul.
Yeah.
Like, even more so than portrayed in that movie.
Well, I didn't have the benefit of watching the social network recently beforehand.
Yeah.
So I went into this without, without that, that, that, you know, just the vaguest of memories.
I guess.
Yeah.
And, you know, I'm a big fan of sork and sork on my own fat butt.
How do you even do that?
I don't know, man.
I'm surprised you're not dead from twisting your spine at an impossible angle.
Actually, I don't like Arasalken.
I should say that.
Okay, so he wrote the, it's interesting because he directed this, but he also wrote the original social network.
He wrote Moneyball.
He wrote the Steve Jobs movie, not the Ashton Coucher one, the Danny Boyle one, which also is similar to this.
Yeah.
Because a lot of that movie is set around an Apple press conference thing, and this is like,
and there's a fake kind of warm up
and the lot of the movie is this.
He wrote a few good men.
He wrote the West Wing.
He loves the walk and talk.
But he also directed...
I was going to say he loves the walk and talk.
Once that is pointed out to you
that every scene he does is just a walk and talk.
Although in this there's a lot of sit and talk.
There's a sit and talk.
A lot of sit and talk.
Yeah.
But he also directed...
Like he has directed before.
He directed Molly's game,
which I quite liked,
trial of Chicago 7,
which is not a bad movie.
But this,
this just...
There's so many things I think this lacks
and not just in terms of like a follow-up,
which it sort of is, but also just in terms of like the direction.
I think the dialogue is worse.
It moves slowly.
Is it the dialogue is worse or the people delivering the dialogue not as good?
It's both, I think.
You're right.
There's an attention to detail, which is not here, but I think the other one has.
Things I like?
Yeah.
I think Jeremy Strong is Zuckerberg.
Yeah, yeah.
I think that definitely works.
He comes across as unpleasant.
unpleasant and awful.
He's got the mannerisms down.
Totally.
He doesn't look like him, really?
No.
Neither is Jesse Eisenberg, really.
But there's moments where, like, they'll do like a Zoom or a pan around him and he's
saying one of his Zuckerberg things.
And I'm like, that really feels like Zuckerberg.
Totally.
I agree.
And, like, it does come across as, like, wooden and unpleasant because he is.
And he just takes in all the information.
He's like, the debate is over.
Yeah.
I'm going to do the worst thing for everyone.
But they wanted Jesse Eisenberg to come.
come back, but Jesse Eisenberg was like, I'm not interested in, I don't want to get tied to
this character again.
Yeah.
Which I understand.
Also, currently I'm in long hair mode and I wouldn't, I'd have to go down to a little
bowl cut mode and I don't want to do that.
And he's directing his own movies and, you know, doing interesting stuff as well.
Yes.
But this, this again, like, and Digger, it's interesting because I'm not going to spoil the,
the core kind of concept of Digger.
Like, literally, I mean, I'm not going to tell you literally what happens in that movie.
Well, you don't have to.
I already know.
I know, but it is about...
I'm the guy that saw Digger.
But it is about art and just being art and activism and just...
And satire.
Yeah.
And where is...
And this is that.
It's just like, well, look at the change that happened here.
And oh, we're pumping the air because we've done this great thing.
And this movie acts like it's shining a light on something that I think everybody knows.
If not literally, instinctually, you know Facebook is dog shit.
Like when Facebook...
I remember when this information was, you know, released in real life.
It's like Facebook is making every...
It's designed to make everybody mad and upset
and then you buy products.
It's like, yeah, we know.
No shit.
Yeah.
I didn't need to know the specific...
Like the specific numbers that it's doing.
Yeah.
Does not concern me.
Oh, it's 64% of this is bad.
Yeah, no.
I know.
If anything, that seems low to me.
Yeah.
I'm well aware that the weird AI
slop that I get sent on Facebook
every day, literally every single day.
I'm aware that, like,
I look at it and I laugh, but it's also
because I, like...
It's not actually poisoning your brain.
It's not actually poisoning my brain,
but, like, it knows that I screenshot it
and, like, I send it to you.
Yeah. And also, like,
they know that it's being delivered to people
who are going to make fun of it. Yeah.
Like, it's always like, kids these days
wouldn't drink out of a rusty hose or whatever,
and all the comments are like,
I don't think they should actually
Yeah, it knows
It's like
Yeah totally
It's just feeding you things
That you will pass on and share
Well interestingly
The last week
And I didn't know
I don't know when this happened
Over the point over the last month
I have two Facebook accounts right
I have one that I use
It is I have one that I use
For the Planet Broadcasting one
And have my personal one
And my personal one
Is gone
Oh
And when I logged in
It was like
Your account was under review
And we've decided
For whatever reason
That it doesn't fit
whatever, and you cannot get it back.
And we're going to kill you.
Yeah, so it's like 20 years of like, and look, I don't update it.
20 years of beautiful memories.
I use it for like the local group.
The thing that I use it for is like the local something happens in my community and I look at it on Facebook.
That's probably what I really use it for.
So I don't care.
You don't have to look at it.
You don't have to volunteer for anything.
It does feel like a relief.
Yeah, it does feel that way.
Oh, I didn't see it because I got banned for no reason.
Yeah, no reason.
It's interesting though because I lost my Twitter
I lost unrelated
Which got came back
And my Facebook
Lost my marbles Mason
I'm getting attacked on YouTube Mason
By different media companies
You know this
But yesterday my business bank account was frozen
For no reason
Just as like a random
You need to confirm this is you
This account's like 12 years old
And is linked to every other account
And card that I have
Would you say that no one's ever had it harder than you
That's what I'm saying
No, what I am saying is that like everything...
We've gotten a little bit off track of the review.
I'm sorry, everything is bad.
And this to me just feels so just, I don't know.
Look, also, it looks like whatever,
because I know Aaron Sork and his focus is dialogue.
So this movie just looks like nothing.
It looks like a TV show.
There's a moment where they reenact January 6,
but it feels like 12 people are doing it.
And it's all up close.
It's low energy.
It feels like it's going to, like, you see people climbing the walls for the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the insurrection thing.
And it feels like it's going to cut to like two S and L guys.
Absolutely.
Like in, like, video cam footage wearing, like, hoodies and, and, and, you know, beanies or whatever going, hey, what are we even doing here?
What's going on?
What's how?
I'm going to go, I'm going to go pee on the president's desk or whatever.
Yeah, absolutely.
It's exactly what it feels like.
It's low energy, like, throughout.
It has the energy of, um, what's that, what's that movie about the, you?
Mark Ruffalo investigation into the Catholic Church.
Spotlight.
Spotlight.
But Spotlight is good.
So it has that kind of energy,
but it's not really saying anything.
And there's like an acidic wit that's to the social network,
which this doesn't have.
It's not funny.
I thought some,
some,
there's a joke about like a Daccarry or whatever,
which is,
yeah.
There's a joke,
what is it,
the guy orders something online?
No,
a ladle.
There's a ladle joke that I thought was all right.
And then like the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
kind of the continual back and forth is between Mikey Madison's character, who's the whistleblower.
Oh, glove hands, Mikey Madison.
Jeremy Allen White's character, who's the investigative journalist, and they have a sort of back and forth, and she thinks he's kind of a stupid lot-eyed.
Yeah.
And he doesn't think anything.
Yeah, everybody's all, you know, doing...
Oh, yeah, Mikey Madison's character wears, like, fingeless gloves all the time.
Sock, sock gloves.
You're like, what's the backstory here?
She's just cold.
She's cold.
She's cold.
She's cold.
She'll tell you all about it.
I'm like, oh, what is this leading to?
Did she, did she do something bad to herself because of Facebook?
Nah.
She's cold.
She's cold.
But it's because of a, because she does have a cold disease.
She does talk about it.
I mean, it's Facebook's fault, though, isn't it?
I think so.
I also think, like, in watching the social network, the structure and timeline and the way that's edited is, like, impeccable.
Sure.
It'll cut between, like, three different timelines, which link seamlessly.
And you know what's happening.
So this is like a, this is a revisit of that, really.
Well, yes, but they don't, they don't tell you, I think, maybe after the first part, they don't tell you what year it is, you just know.
Whereas this has a...
Because of the sepia tone, or the haircuts.
Well, that's what I was going to, because in this, which it doesn't do any of that, just the haircuts, there is a literal sliding timeline at the bottom.
Sounds handy to me.
Like it doesn't trust you to know what year it's going to be.
And then, but there's also black and white flashbacks.
And it just feels like it wasn't edited or structured carefully enough.
or they think you're too stupid to follow this.
I'm not.
I'm smart.
But this movie is like it's made,
it feels like it's like you're stupid.
You don't know that Facebook is bad.
That's what it feels like.
And again,
everybody knows that.
And again,
I think when we talked about Digger
and I think we talked about
the most recent social reckoning trailer,
you know,
I had the thought of like,
well, what, again,
like if the release of these documents
that proved Facebook was, you know, complicit in all the bad stuff that is happening in people's
lives. If that didn't change anything, what is the movie with the big celebrities going to do
to change anything like that? Well, nothing. So what's it for then? Exactly.
Because, I mean, and again, it's this idea of like, well, and nothing even happens to Mark Zucker
no. No. It didn't happen in real life, but it doesn't happen in this. Like, you know,
in sometimes in the movie, he has an argument with somebody, maybe the most ethical man in the world,
Bill Burr.
Absolutely.
Who's like,
Mark Zuckerberg,
you've got to tell the truth.
Yeah.
For Boston.
For Boston's sake.
That's right.
That's right.
And Mark Zucker is like,
well,
you don't have a billion dollars.
Yeah.
So I won't tell the truth.
You only have $250 million.
A literal line in this movie,
by the way.
But then they say,
well,
you're kind of a bad guy
sometimes Mark Zuckerberg
and he frowns and he goes,
hmm,
I can't believe somebody told me
that I wasn't the best.
Yeah, and Facebook,
it's just the notice
board. It's not good or bad.
I'm not, we're not the arbiter of anything and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
There's also Mikey Madison is like, I'm, she's reporting to Jeremy Allen White Throw, the whole
movie. And probably for 95% of the time that she's there, they take a meeting, she goes,
I'm not doing this anymore. And he goes, well, I think you should keep doing this. And she's
like, well, I'm out. I can't. And then she just comes back. And I just feel like, that's true. That's
true to life, isn't it? I agree. But I feel like in like, if, if, um,
what's his name?
Who directed the first one?
God.
David Fincher.
Fincher.
It loops in a way that is like pointless.
Like you can tell she doesn't want to do this obviously because it won't have to keep
repeating it's got to ruin her entire life.
Like we know that and it just seems pointless.
I guess we'll do some spoilers even though you know what happens.
Fucking nothing.
Now you're going to say worst movie ever.
It's bad.
I'm going to say best movie ever.
I didn't think it was good.
It's not good.
But just a little point of difference.
And also, if I don't say my real opinion, Facebook can't get me.
They can't get you.
And you can keep sending me those memes, though, for real.
Oh, absolutely, yeah.
I didn't, I didn't hate it.
It's all right.
I didn't.
But again, you have the benefit of watching the social network.
It's only that I just think it's nothing.
It's pointless.
It's this thing of like, it's that West Wing thing of like, because the West Wing is
bullshit.
Like, it absolutely is this fantasy of how the democracy function.
in the US and the Democratic Party.
But it's not, and this feels like that.
You know what?
You've convinced me worse than you ever.
But so yeah, they, okay, a funny bit that I think is funny.
It's spoiler time.
Spoiler time.
There's a bit at the start where a blonde lady,
her car is broken down by the side of the road
and some cops pull up and she goes on this rant about,
she's drunk.
She's drunk about, and they're trying to like, breath-alized.
Or is she drunk?
I don't know.
Mentally ill.
And she's right because, like,
they're trying to say that, oh, she's drunk and, you know, and breathalize her or take a sobriety test.
And she's like, well, I don't have to do that because you didn't see me driving.
But then it becomes this racist kind of rant about DE or whatever.
There's a tipping point where she's like, I'm going to, what I am going to do is I'm going to take shots at these people knowing they can't do anything and blah, blah, and I'm going to put it up on.
Put it on Facebook and whatever.
So that becomes.
Because Facebook radicalized her.
Yeah.
And so Mikey Madison, who's based on a real person, knows this person in real life.
And then it's like, well, this person, they don't say who,
but she campaigned for Bernie Sanders a few years prior.
And then...
So it's Bernie Sanders, why?
Bernie Sanders.
Again, like, not even naming specific people.
They don't say Donald Trump in this.
Numerous times they're like, the president just did it again.
Yeah.
The president posted a video.
It's like, you can't even name...
Yeah, because then people would be upset.
Fucking weak.
Yeah, it is...
Like, because it doesn't mean it, like, whatever.
Wow.
But, like, this one of this movie feels like,
it just feels absolutely poor.
Pointless and and like spineless.
But then at the end of the...
And so a big part of his story is Michael Madison trying to figure out
how did she get radicalized over these three years.
And it's Facebook, obviously.
We all know people who have had their brains absolutely shattered.
I don't know how to prove this, but I think it was Facebook.
Yeah, we know.
I think that's like my dad is not on Facebook.
And he's relatively normal.
But like some of my parents' friends are like, what the fuck happened here?
Like I know it's...
Well, we know.
But, um...
But then at the end, we see her stormed, like that lady storming the Capitol.
And that's, and it's supposed to be this poignant moment.
Look how far this person has fallen.
But I just thought that was just really funny.
Again, there needs to be an SNL guy there being like, didn't I see you on face?
Wasn't she earlier?
Wasn't she earlier?
And again, so it commented.
I like the racist things you said to those cops.
Even though I love cops, but I hate cops.
I hate cops.
But at the end, and also,
the end like, so Zuckerberg is pulled into the Facebook situation room.
Oh, he knows these.
The Facebook tuation room.
Thank you.
Also, he knows these articles are coming out and it's like a big disaster of a Facebook.
Spoiler, it's not.
And they're like, well, you have to shut this down because they're literally storming the
capital and the president keeps making posts about it.
And so eventually he made.
He's posting.
He's posting about it.
And so eventually he's forced to make this decision to remove him from social media, as all
social media companies did.
Yeah, for a while.
For a while.
Remember that?
Remember what he didn't say anything for a while?
It was great.
Yeah.
And now, but of course that all got reversed.
Zuckerberg was at his inauguration.
He's kissing fucking asses and whatever.
Because obviously all, like,
Salking a big fat butt.
Yes, exactly.
His own big fat butt and others.
So like at the end, after Mikey Madison, like,
does her big speech to Congress about how Facebook is bad in 2021 or whatever that
happened, she punches the air at the end.
Like, anything was achieved.
like that we're not in a worse situation than we were back then.
This movie, it lied.
Like it literally lies about what happens.
It's interesting because then you just look around and you go,
it didn't change anything.
That's what I'm talking about.
This isn't like, you know, a political scandal in the 70s
and it's like, well, it revitalized the media journalism in America or whatever.
And you go, that does sound, okay, that sounds like they had a bit of a golden age or whatever.
It's like, no, I remember this.
from a couple of years ago.
Exactly.
So it's just like, yeah, the government should take action here.
Well, they're not.
It's fucking over.
They took my Facebook away.
They took James's Facebook away and they messed with his bank.
They did.
But that's just AI.
It's just AI implementation that's just running a buck.
Like, I don't, who cares?
But like.
Mark Zuckerberg cares.
He loves that AI.
I just, there's no, I don't know.
I think.
Did you see that there's some sort of,
there's some sort of talk to me
sequel or sidequel or something
that's exclusive to Meta
and Meta VR?
I don't know about this, no.
I don't...
Again, Meta have never made anything good
like outside of the original...
Because at the end also, because there's like,
you know, there's some words on screen
about what happened or whatever.
And some of it is like, well, Facebook's still around.
But it's also like, oh, they rebranded to meta.
I let you in is the title of a six episode
immersive via horror spin-off series
from the Talk to Me Universe commissioned
by meta. Great.
That's really good.
Yeah.
So, you know, everything's still bad.
This movie does nothing and is pointless.
I guess the only thing you could say of this, like,
but it's not even doing well,
is that maybe people could see this and be pointed specifically
at the people responsible for why their brains are being shattered.
That's true.
But even though, no, they're not.
They could have just called it Facebook.
And people would have been like, I've got to see it.
Facebook. I know Facebook. I'm just got to, I'm going to see it because it's Facebook.
Yeah. Can I watch it on Facebook?
No. I don't think they'll let you.
No. Yeah. Like, it's not even worth like Facebook like suppressing this really.
Because like, again, it doesn't say anything interesting.
It wouldn't shock me at all if I opened Facebook today or maybe tomorrow and it's heard me and it's gone.
Do you want to, do you want to watch the social reckoning? Here's a trailer.
Yeah.
Makes you think, doesn't it? It does make you think.
Makes you think.
I guess the only solace I take from like any of these people is that they're they're fucking miserable.
Like they have everything but people still like, I'm going to be nice to have everything.
People still like you suck and they hate themselves.
So I like that.
Yeah.
You can't fix that by breaking the world.
That's true.
So small blessings.
Small blessings.
Anyway, pointless.
Shit.
Garbage.
What other words, Mason could.
I use to describe this.
Or you could use words that you could describe it.
Pandering.
Oh.
Unoriginal.
Thinks you're an idiot.
Thinks you don't know how to watch a movie or what timeline is.
Salking their own fat butts.
Sorking their own fat butts all day in here.
Meandering.
You know.
Things like that.
Wow.
Yeah.
Anyway, good on this lady, whatever her name is who did this.
France is something.
Because like that's hard what she did.
Yeah.
Like genuinely.
Yeah.
And good on.
Jeremy Allen White for what he's doing.
I guess to a certain degree,
you're saying congratulations to this woman
for trying really hard on achieving nothing.
Yeah.
But she did something.
But did you achieve anything?
I don't think so.
Honestly, no.
Do you think maybe this is one step
in the correct direction?
Maybe.
Yeah.
But no.
Okay, then.
Good.
I think it's no steps in no direction.
Wow.
Yeah.
Wow.
I say wow.
I say, well, anyway, should we move it along?
Let's move it along.
To what?
What are we reading?
What are we going to read?
Great.
I'm doing the thing.
We're reading today.
This is a section when we talk about what we've been reading or watching or listening to.
That's very exciting.
Have you been reading or watching or listening to?
All sorts of stuff.
Oh yeah, I named 10.
Yeah, you can give me one.
I was going to say, we'd be here all day.
I had to think of 10 things.
What do you think of Matchbox, the movie?
A movie that people are saying is bad.
I haven't watched it, and it's just the realization that's hit me is it is free, I guess, on Apple TV.
Mason.
So I could watch it.
Mason.
But do I even want to give it five minutes?
Maybe we're like, this is wacky.
I like the director because he's the extraction guy.
But maybe he's a pure action extraction guy.
This is like you need that.
You know, it's a balance of like fast and furious and heists and buddies, budding about.
And maybe it just doesn't hit.
And maybe it's a paycheck job.
Maybe.
Maybe this is the one for him.
I'm going to say this.
I will never watch this unless it's for work.
Okay.
I'm not watching this in my free time.
Well, let me tell you this.
Work will not require it.
for you are the boss of your own podcast destiny.
No, I know, but one day I'm going to do...
Oh, you mean if you get a regular job?
Yeah.
And the boss is like, hey, we're going to have...
We're actually...
We're having a staff Christmas party.
We're watching the movie Matchbox.
It's about the Matchbox, gang?
Do you have...
I love it.
I need to borrow your Apple login.
Yeah.
No, it'll be like fake movies for streaming or whatever.
We'll eventually cover.
Or movies are based on toys or whatever.
One day, I guess.
One day.
Skathing.
reviews.
I look forward to
to a restraction.
It doesn't...
This is a movie where like
nobody directed this.
You look at it.
It's got no distinct visual style or...
I mean, you don't know that until you've seen it.
I've seen the trailer and I've seen movies exactly like this.
I've seen a thousand of them.
You've never seen a movie exactly like this.
I don't know, actually, you're right, because I've never seen it.
It would be strange if I was watching this and I went, I have seen a movie.
What's the next one up?
Do we know?
It's not Hot Wheels, is it?
The next Mattel-based...
Good question.
Based a muffie?
Why don't you talk?
about what you're going to talk about while I do some research. Okay, that sounds good. So you're all going
going to be on the computer and not paying attention? No, no, I'm going to do both.
Come on, man. Movies based on my talent. I'm doing it right now. You are the only good multitasker.
That's true. Master of the universe was the last one. Go on. Anyway, go on. Keep on. Keep on. I watched
an indie movie. No, it must be nice. As part of Monster Fest in Melbourne. Which one? Timble of
Doom. Ah, that's very good. Thank you. You thought I meant Indiana Jones because you're stupid.
No, I was doing a joke. I was doing a joke. I didn't think that. I didn't think that. It's time to
admit, we've been doing this podcast long enough today that you can admit you were stupid and
you made a mistake. I'm stupid and I made a mistake. Yeah. Yeah. But I was, are you proud of me?
No. No. Great. You thought that when you admitted you were stupid and you made a mistake, I would
finally be proud of you. Yeah. But I'm like, I'm only going to be proud of you for a secret reason.
I'm not going to tell you. You've got to figure it out in your own. Okay, I will. I'll dedicate my life
to that. Yeah. Yeah. So what did you something? I watched an independent movie, rather, called Godmother,
which is directed by a man named John Veron.
It's his first feature film,
but it was co-written by Veron and Alana Pierce,
who people know from internet.
Absolutely.
And we did a podcast with one time.
We did.
We were on the Friends Per Second podcast.
That's the one, yeah.
She was also guesting on that because she's not the core cast member,
but is often on there.
That's right.
Just so you guys know.
But it was made for like 400 grand.
You said it looks amazing, right?
On par with obsession, like that kind of budget.
Yeah.
And it looks great.
To quote my hero Harry Stiles, it's like a real movie.
Wow.
It's like a real movie.
Yeah.
It's about...
It's like a real movie, but it's not a real movie, is what you're saying.
It actually is a real movie, interestingly.
So it's about a couple who go to like an out in the desert Airbnb, the guy's going to propose, you know, it's our big secret kind of thing.
Sounds great.
But then there's stuff going on out there.
And maybe the kindly couple who have rented them the Airbnb.
Maybe they've got some ulterior motives that involve a horror movie.
And being in a horror movie.
But they might.
They do.
Okay.
They do.
I'm just spoiled it.
Or maybe they don't.
Is it so, because you watch this at the Cinemanova?
I watched it.
Is it getting a wide release?
I believe it is getting wide release.
That's why I'm mentioning it.
It's going to be in a bunch of upcoming festivals and things, I think.
And then I think maybe a wider distribution.
But I thought it's really good.
Like it's got, it's, there's a, there is a certain art to getting you to care about a brand
new cast of people in the short span of time.
Absolutely.
And apparently because it's, you know, the time is limited.
They made it in like two weeks and like budget is limited, et cetera.
They had to cut out like a lot of expository dialogue and scenes at the start where you get to know the characters.
But I'm like, I'm like him.
Yeah, cool.
They're good.
And yet, sound design is really good.
Yeah.
Very, what's that word we're looking for?
Visceral.
It's nice.
It's good.
Yeah, a lot of fun.
All right.
And it's got Bruce Davison in it, who people will know Senator Kelly from X-Men.
Oh, he's X-Men.
Yeah.
But he's also horror.
guy, like he's an old school horror guy, he's been in a bunch of stuff.
Okay.
So you'd highly recommend the movie Godmother.
I would.
Let me see if it's getting a wider release.
I'll see if I can figure this out.
Do you think it's going to do better than other mum, mum, mum?
Om the mother.
Other mum.
Maybe.
Maybe.
It says, yeah, it debuted a fantastic first.
I'm just looking now.
It could even end up getting pushed it next year.
Yeah, maybe.
Yeah.
It is nearly the end of the year.
It's true.
What do you think about that?
I need to have seen Godfathers one to three
to watch Godmother one.
If you want to be well-rounded in your movie
film fandom.
Mason, I'll stop you right there. I don't.
Oh, then don't worry about it. Just watch this movie.
Okay, I will.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Great. All right, no, I will see this.
This sounds good.
Okay.
Promise me you're not going to pirate it off the internet.
I'm not going to pirate, no.
Because I see your mouse hand moving to the pirate bay.
How could you see that?
Dot malware.com.
And I say, don't click on that.
That's James.
Why not?
Because I've linked it to my personal and business bank accounts.
That's correct, yes.
Yeah.
You mentioned Mattel upcoming movies.
Oh, yes, please.
These are the live action ones.
Thomas and Friends?
All right.
That could be fun.
That could be...
Yeah, no, okay.
I hope they do the trolley problem, but with Thomas
and just to choose between killing different people.
I hope Thomas is Will Ferrell.
That would be funny.
It's just this big face on the front.
Hell yeah.
Like Darren Cross from Ant Man 3.
Yes.
Very good.
He's getting a movie.
Okay.
American girl?
When is it going to be American girl for boy?
That's exactly right.
90's Shanny Doll movie.
No.
That's a live action television series, I should say.
A movie called Christmas Balloon.
Oh, that's one of the ones from the Christmas Multiverse.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's going to play the Christmas balloon.
Very good.
I'm a balloon.
Christmas.
Merry Christmas, everybody.
I'm still.
stuck up at the ceiling.
It's not a tourmesse a balloon.
Etcetera.
You'll say a lot of funny things, right?
Hot Wheels?
Yeah, we knew about Hot Wheels.
How are they going to differentiate?
Are they going to be in the Hot Wheels Club?
Hot Wheels is cancelled.
After Matchbox, Hot Wheels is cancelled.
It's not going to be cancelled because what are they going to do?
Think of another IP that they've held for decades or whatever.
It's no, they're just going to try it again.
They'll be like, the problem was John Sina.
The problem was the cast were bad.
I agree.
So let's get.
the worst John Sina.
Let's do it.
And now it'll be fast and furious, but like...
I think they've got to go little.
I think you can't just do a junior car action movie.
Oh, no, you're right.
This will be the one where it's the magic cars.
Magic cars, yeah.
I've got a belt full of cars.
I'm going to throw the cars and then it's a real car.
It's a real car.
It's a drive away.
Is this like that, man?
No.
No.
They're magic.
No.
It's not shrinking.
It's magic.
Get out of here.
Magic eight ball?
Oh, yep.
Shake, shake, shake.
Magic eight ball.
You're dead.
What kind of movie is this?
James, you're dead.
Oh, what?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Why is that an option in all the floating triangles in there?
I don't know, but here's a video of your own death in the magic eight ball.
That's different than the truck one.
That's interesting.
That is interesting, isn't it?
Yeah.
Is this a clone thing?
Is this a multiverse thing?
What am I looking at?
Two deaths?
Does the truck not get me?
No, you're going to die twice.
Okay.
Yeah.
Well, that's what they say, you die twice.
Once when you get hit by a truck, second time when the magic eight ball gets you.
That's exactly right.
When you try to swallow the magic eight ball, I bet.
Matt
Major Matt Mason
Monster High
Great
Poly pocket not finish
I gotta look up Major Matt Mason
Poly Pocket
Major Matt
Is he one of those guys that crawls
He's a crawling soldier on the ground or whatever
Oh that crawling soldier guy
That's a good question
Oh no he's like a space guy
Okay
Great
He's like a Buzz Light ear
Okay
Oh I was a space man toy
I've come to life
like Buzz Light Year, no.
This is magic.
But I have depression.
Like Chris Evans Buzz Light Year.
I've got all the worst aspect
to the Buzz Light Year you don't like.
Let me tell you about this.
This is, yeah, this is an opportunity
to give another show of the Light Year movie.
Give it a look.
That's actually all right.
Oh, so this is a stealth advertisement.
Correct.
That's what they're doing now.
They're being paid by Disney
to stealth advertise.
The Disney Plus streaming release of Light Year,
the Toy Story movie nobody likes.
Yeah, it's like, well, did you like this?
Well, maybe you'll like the movie Lightyear.
Or if you didn't like this, maybe Light Year's more your speed.
Light Speed.
Nice.
Polypocket I mentioned.
Rock them, sock them robots.
Tony the tattooed man.
All right.
Wishbone.
Come in here, kids.
I'm Tony the tattooed man.
Have a look at it.
Oh, magic.
This is magic.
Wishbone?
Yep, all right.
Is he a dog, maybe?
Yeah, maybe.
I think that's a different thing.
Yeah, I think.
Or it isn't.
Wishbone.
It's probably a plastic bone.
No, it is, it's a dog.
Jack Terrier dog.
Uno?
That's magic and like, oh, I've reversed you.
I've gone backwards.
Quick use the skip.
Draw four.
Guns.
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
But it's magic.
It's magic.
Well, obviously.
Yeah.
That was not going to be technology.
Oh, no, I've changed the colour because I've used the same number, but it's a different colour.
And then the guy goes, dude.
Then the guy goes, oh no, and you get sucked back into the portal.
You know?
Why?
How did you go?
I'll be back.
I was the best.
I was just a normal kid and then I was I got, I was the best of the card tournament
because that's cool.
And then somebody was like, you want to play a different game?
I only like video games.
Well, let me tell you what we had before video games.
A little thing called, who know.
Oh, my dad told me about this.
He said he would play in, in, in,
car trips
But he's so
Family
And being with your family
But he went missing
He went missing
My mom
Sent she saw a portal
And I always said
Mom
You're an idiot
Mom you don't know
I'm gonna go back
To my video games
But now I know it's real
What's that glowing
Back of cards
Under my bed
Well it's that's Uno
Wait a minute
if you can harness the power of believing in yourself.
What's this doing in the box that my dad left me?
I never look at this anymore because it hurts my feelings.
And I'm never going to look inside the pack to see if there's a note from my dad.
But then at the end, I used all the cards to get the bad guy into the point.
I'm going to look in the box.
I don't know.
It says, Dad.
It's from Dad.
I love you.
Well, wherever you were, Dad, I love you.
I didn't really leave.
Uno fucking swallowed me up in a portal.
Oh, my God, my mum was right all alone.
And I'm showing, and I've made Uno on video games.
I play with my friends online.
There's a B-plot where the bully, he's been picking on me,
but at the end I'm like, I throw down a reverse and his pants fall down.
His pants full down.
Also, viewmaster.
Oh, you're a viewmaster.
We've already done, we already wrote the script for me master.
We can't do this again.
Yes, we can.
We're going to do it for all of them and several of them twice, because we're going to forget.
I'll be watching Carrie.
Oh yeah.
It's based on a novel Carrie.
My Stephen King, Mike Flattigant is adapting it as he off.
Nothing does Stephen King properties.
And they're going to do multiple seasons?
Maybe, potentially.
It does expand on carry.
There seems to be other carry people.
Other carry people.
Other carry people.
I'm only like three or four in.
And also like, even though it does stretch the premise, it does not feel drawn out.
Interesting.
It's really good.
Also, Summer H. H. H. H. H. L who plays Carrie.
Yes.
Amazing.
Really, really good.
Do you think she's related to C. Thomas Howell?
Yes, I believe she is.
She actually is.
I don't actually, no, no, but probably.
Okay.
But yeah, it's just, and you know, you've got some Mike Flanagan, like, I'm just checking
if she is related to C. Thomas Howell.
I don't think she is.
Mike Flanagan's brought in some of his Mike Flanamans?
Yeah, exactly.
Which is all good and fun.
I have no problem with.
I don't have a problem with that.
Also, a lot of these people who are playing high school students,
they aren't, but they look like high school students.
But, yeah.
Amber Midthunders in it.
Oh, that's not.
Yeah, yeah.
Rahul Koli is in it.
Oh, why you're going?
Another person who was briefly on that podcast.
That's exactly right.
He's one of Mike Flanagan's, Mike Flanaman.
He is.
So is Samantha Sloan, who's a great place to carry his mother.
Yeah, I recommend it.
It's also like, oh, I know.
know where this is going. This is awful.
I know Carrie. I know where this goes.
So who else, is it other kids at the school who also have superpowers?
No.
Because it's interesting because Carrie is sort of the one, because Carrie was Stephen King's first
book, right?
I don't know that actually. I'm going to shoot me. That is correct.
But she's the only one that isn't really tied into any of the larger universe.
I think this does tie into some. It was its first, yeah, first novel.
There's a bunch of, he's got a bunch of, he's got the fire starter and the shining and
and the Dead Zone guy and etc.
And they're all sort of linked together
in the wider Stephen King universe.
Carrey, I don't think ever has been.
Okay.
Well, his first written novel was The Long Walk,
which he wrote in 1966,
but it was published in 79.
Yep.
Under the student in Richard, Bachman.
Yes.
Anyway, it's on Prime.
Terrific.
One of the three companies.
I love that.
Should we do some letters?
Let's do letters.
Let's do letters.
Letters.
Letters theme.
Letters theme.
We love you
Some letters
They're only a day
We can tighten that up

That's right
Let's go
Let's go
Here's an email
If you can even believe
Mail
This is from Jesus
Who says
Hey Mason and James Jesse from California
Here
Wait a minute
Starting out with a lie
That's interesting
Yeah
I was just wondering
What franchise in the last 20 years
Has helped build or spun off
The most careers in Hollywood
Looks like Marvel has helped
A lot of new actors get more work
Outside the MCU
But Star Wars seems to be the big
First big franchise
It helped tons of others
shape and start their later works
Yeah, that's interesting
Even the Lord of the Rings
franchises started a lot of actors
And filmmakers long-lasting work in Hollywood
I don't know
What do you guys think?
I guess he had Lord of the Rings in terms of like behind the scenes stuff and people that wetter workshops and etc.
And the New Zealand film industry to a degree until Peter Jackson broke it in the early 2010s.
Yeah, it would probably, in terms of just actors, it would be Marvel, just because the amount of stuff.
The amount of stuff.
They brought back Paul Bettany.
That's true.
He was Hollywood finished.
He was a Hollywood turd.
Yeah, man, and deserved.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's hard.
It's hard to get out of Hollywood turd status.
But I would also say, like, it's also hard to show, like, a direct through line and go, okay.
Like, unless a director goes, I saw that person in this, and then I knew I had to have them in my movie, and then they became a star.
Like, you just don't know, because maybe they would have become a star anyway.
True.
Like, I think of, like, when I...
Maybe it's just, who's the casting person at Marvel?
Sarah Hallie Finn.
I'm picking stars all over the place.
I mean, that is true.
Yeah.
But, like, also, a lot of people have...
There are a lot of, you know, people consider huge stars in the Marvel universe and they've gone on to do other stuff and some of it has been good.
Yeah.
And some of it less so.
True.
Some of it is just.
Dreck.
Okay.
Like Chris Evans would be a good example.
He's done some, you know, I really like Knives Out.
Yeah.
Some other stuff, but he has also done some Drek.
Hemsworth, you know, he gets a $50 million for a movie.
You know, extraction.
Extraction movie.
Men in Black, Four.
Yeah.
A bad movie, an awful movie.
He's Thor also.
store.
But it's also like, well, maybe some of these people would have become stars anyway.
Yeah.
Like I think we talk, you know, when I, the second time I saw once upon a time in Hollywood,
I'm like, oh yeah, Sydney Sweeties in that.
That's a huge one.
Marka Callie's in that.
Austin Butler's in that.
Yeah.
You know, et cetera, et cetera.
Maybe it, is it Tarantino?
Because he's re-invite.
It's not a franchise, but, you know, he'll reinvigorate a career or launch somebody.
Yeah.
Tim Roth.
Maybe it's, yes.
Is it the movie train spotting?
No.
Without the movie Trainspotting, we wouldn't have got American Sherlock with Lucy Lou.
That's true.
I don't know if that's true.
And we wouldn't have got Danny Boyle's AI use in the movie, Inc.
Thank God.
I saw the trailer for that.
I'm still going to watch that.
Mason, you're the problem, man.
I know.
Not just this, though.
Sorry, I will clarify, I'm only going to look at the AI elements.
Okay, thank you.
Also, there's AI and everything now.
We just don't see it all the time.
Where do you draw the line?
At the Danny Boyle movie, Inc.
But the non-AI parts, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Marvel.
Yeah, Marvel.
Yeah, Marvel.
They get everybody, don't they?
Yeah.
They just need so many people.
That all exactly right, yeah.
Callum.
Isn't it weird that the character of America Chavez, the one that can, you know, punch a
a way through the multiverse.
It hasn't been, hasn't appeared in the multiverse saga.
Isn't that weird?
Don't need to.
Sochi Gomez, but she keeps, you see her at the red carpet events.
Yeah, she may bring her in.
They don't want her for something, right?
They're getting the line, because you were supposed to be in Spider-Man 3.
Yeah.
The Tobin-McGuire one or whatever.
Not the original Toby McGuire one.
Spoiler alert, he's in the other one.
Whoa.
Yeah. Calum says, with Digger digging its own grave of the box office.
Nice.
Will it be the number one big flop of the year in an era of big funding for,
is the era of big funding for artistic films over?
I think studios are going to switch to smaller budget films like obsession.
Potentially, I think this isn't, I wouldn't say,
an artistic film because it has
Tom Cruise in it.
So they thought it was a blockbuster.
They didn't think they were making a...
I don't know if they thought they were making a blockbuster.
I think this might be a great big sneak
where the director's like, I'm going to...
Oh no. I think this... I'm going to get $300 million
or whatever is to make a movie that I want to make.
The studio thought...
Yeah.
They wouldn't have put this in if they realized it was going to do this.
Yeah. I think this will be the biggest problem of the year.
I can't imagine anybody else putting so much...
The most Doomsday or Dune like just
bottoms out but that's very
very unlikely that's just not going to happen um
I wonder if like at a certain point
when you know now we're down to three or four major movie studios
yeah they can't just keep throwing
300 million dollars at every movie
to increasingly lower results yeah
so I'm wondering if they
are going to go back to the old school method of like
we do two blockbusters a year and then a bunch of small
movies and maybe some of them hit, maybe the blockbuster hits, maybe some pay for the ones
that don't do so well.
I think they want to do that.
Yeah.
But I think then actors become more expensive, budgets blow out.
Do you know directors have larger fees and more control?
So even something that starts more.
Yeah.
Can grow.
And that is the, that's the logical thing to do.
Yeah.
But I think inevitably we're going to pull back, but we're going to get back to what they're
doing now.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Even though I do think we will see less of it.
But, you know, there's still, Spider-Man still makes $2 billion.
The Odyssey makes billion dollars, whatever, you know what I mean?
Like, I don't think the, I think it's still, we're still going to get both.
Agreed.
Yeah.
But, yeah, it would be smart to do obsession.
Yeah.
Because there's so many movies that like that, that are as good as obsession and exist,
but people just don't see them.
For whatever reason, they don't hit at the right time or, you know, whatever.
Like, the car movie where people driving in a car forever.
Matchbox cars.
Matchbox.
Yeah.
What was that one?
We both watched it.
It ends.
It ends.
Yeah, like, you know, I would say that's as good as obsession,
but, you know, people don't, haven't seen it.
Hey, speaking of Christopher Nolan.
Christopher Nolan?
He wrote in again.
Yeah, he did.
But he's using his pseudonym Cole.
Very tricky stuff.
Christopher Noel, Cole.
Christopher Colin.
Yeah, exactly.
How would you feel if Christopher, he's asking.
How would you feel if Christopher Nolan's next movie was full of a bunch of unknown actors?
After Oppenheimer and the Odyssey
I can't help or wonder what a movie is his
could be like without the most famous people ever
The cast of the Odyssey and each of their individual
Starter models for me was a bit distracting
Yeah, I could say that
While I was directing
Whoa!
I really think his next film could benefit from something different
Think the Force Awakens casting Daisy Ridley and John Boyega
Thoughts?
I would say like he has done that
Like Dunkirk
Even though it has like Tom Hardy, he's masked
He's not the lead character
You know you had Barry Kergan was in it
when he wasn't huge
Harry Stiles.
No, Stiles was in it.
But he wasn't the lead.
Like Kenneth Brad is in that,
but yeah, not, you know,
Kenneth Brown is famous,
but he's not like, you know.
I've certainly never heard of him.
I don't even know who he is.
But even, you know,
a lot of the Batman cast
is relatively unknown.
Not all of them,
because there's Michael Kane,
whatever.
Yeah, I'd be totally fine with that.
Yeah.
Where's he going to get them, though?
What direction is you were?
I mean, that would be, I guess,
ultimate test of Christopher Nolan's status as an, you know, an oruteur director that everybody
goes to see because it's a Christopher Nolan.
Because that is sort of what we're, where, you know, we're sort of going on the assumption,
well, you know, people are partly going to these movies because they've got, because it's
Christopher Nolan and I guess partly they're going for Tom Holland and, you know, the big stars.
If you take one aspect of that away, is he still get staying power?
And is anybody willing to risk that?
Yeah.
Is any movie studio going to be like, okay, you made a billion dollars,
with Tom Holland last time, can you do it again with nobody?
I think he,
I think he, maybe not a billion dollars,
but I think also the studio owe him.
Yeah, for sure.
You know, so he would just do whatever.
He'll just do whatever.
He'll just do whatever movies in him.
That's true.
He's talked about doing a horror movie,
so I don't know whether that's,
and there's horror elements to like The Odyssey.
Didn't he also, I think he said something like,
I don't know if he's, do Blue Thunder?
Yeah, that's true.
I think he's, who was it who said,
maybe it wasn't him, but there was,
a director and maybe they were talking about obsession
but something else like that
or the substance or something
and they were like well I would love to make a horror movie
but then I saw this and I'm like okay
well somebody made a great horror movie I don't have to
somebody made one great horror movie finally
I finally saw a movie and I'm like well I don't need to make any movies
I like movies now
I like this movie now
anyway thank you Christopher Cole not long
I was thinking about making a movie about a boy
who finds a card game
was his dad's card game
His dad's card game.
And he learns to love the power of friendship in card games.
Okay.
I'm Christopher Nolan.
Yes?
Goodbye.
Bye.
Great email from Christopher Nolan.
I agree.
This is from Danny, who says, do you guys have a favorite era or decade in comics?
I mean, the 90s is when I started reading comics, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite era.
I like the 2010s.
I like a bunch of the...
I mean, now is so good.
But now is so much.
But if I have to pick an era that isn't...
If I pick the now...
But look, I honestly think the best ear in comics kind of is now, like you've got so many people who have.
And you can read the old ones.
That's true.
When you think about image and like various indie publishers and people can publish exactly what they want and they retain creative control and ownership.
Oh, yeah.
And, you know, image comics especially and, you know, all that sort of.
That's great.
But I do like the, probably like just the whole, everything in the 80s.
I'd say probably like from the just I guess that's also before they were like well this could
become a movie or franchise or whatever yeah yeah yeah I love like I would say probably especially
DC in the 80s and it's what I love is going back to something like that and seeing a snapshot
of what was popular then yeah yeah I recently I'm like oh I remember this there's a great there's a great
Batman annual uh I know what was the recent Batman thing of
was good Batman in a building or whatever.
Oh, Dark Patterns.
Yeah, that was really good.
So I tried, when I was a kid, I've lost it again.
He's buddy lost it again.
Yeah.
When I was a kid, I remember reading this.
It was a Batman annual and I was trying to track it down.
I'm like, what, no, it's a Neil Adams cover.
Oh, that's good.
That's classic.
Classic.
So it was Batman annual number 14.
Yeah.
And I'm like, I'm trying, I couldn't remember the number or like what it was.
And I'm good.
Did you search the cover?
Was you like Two-Face Batman cover?
Yeah, two-face cover, whatever.
And I discovered that this one,
and also I think the previous annual
or the one afterwards was also
two-faced. They were like
that was his era. Sometimes
you'll look back and you'll go, okay, they didn't use a particular
character for like 30 years.
Yeah, absolutely. But I love that
that DC era of the 80s
like the multiverse era
which you hate, you know, the crisis and influence.
I hate it when it combines. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And there's also like there was
so much of it and there's a
a Facebook group
which you're going to love, James.
I can't get it.
And it's called Comic Book House ads.
And so it's all, like, when you read a comic book back then,
they'd have like, you know, obviously the one-page ad for something else.
And I just, I'm like, oh, there's so much still to find in that era.
There were just so many, so many comic books.
Yeah, absolutely.
Weird stuff.
So many weird justice league stuff.
Okay.
So we both agree.
Hawk world.
The 80s?
The 80s?
I think it's the 80s.
And it's very retro.
And that's also the best theme for a party.
We should have an 80s party.
We're having one right now.
We certainly are.
Yeah.
I forgot the music
Oh well then
And we can't play it through the podcast anyway
I don't worry about it then
Because somebody from Universal Killis
Yeah
And good
Here's one more Amel James
It's from Jacob
Goodo there boys
With all this talk about Digger
I can't help but think
I hardly even know her
Anyways stay prayed up
That's great
That's a good email I think
I agree
Thank you Christopher Nolan
For a second email
I got a couple of others
I said
What's your favorite depiction
Of podcasts in movies or TV
Alex Incke
Old friend podcast from Ghostbusters, of course.
Oh, yeah.
And they're making another Ghostbusters movie apparently or whatever.
Who cares?
I liked in that Halloween reboot where the podcasters were killed in the toilet.
Oh, yeah.
And they were shouting at Mike Myers in the...
Yeah.
I don't think podcasters should get any respect at all in the movies.
Completely agree.
Or in real life.
Yeah.
The probably most accurate one is the show Plotonic with Seth Rogen and Roseburn.
Oh, I haven't seen that.
There's her friend has a...
has like a generic lifestyle home podcast about brands and being a mom and whatever.
And it's just like, but it's like, it's accurate.
It's like, oh, the setup of this is correct.
Yeah, right.
And it's, you know.
They've got a road podcaster set up and she pushes a record and it takes a second.
It takes a second to record.
Yeah, absolutely it does.
And Richard says, as a girl dad, James, can you tell me how you do with your preschool hair routine?
As someone that's never had hair trying to get, trying to get my three-year-old
hair into some sort of acceptable state with hair bands in the morning is the most stressful
part of the school run.
Any tips?
Yes.
I'll do this quickly.
Okay.
So the night before, uh, condition, every night, condition the hair.
Okay.
You don't have to wash it every night, but you condition.
And then after you wash it out.
And you can do this just in the kitchen table.
That's right.
Yeah.
No.
You have to do it in a shower or bath.
Uh-huh.
And then you brush it out.
Okay.
Uh, and then you do a very basic plat.
Just to hold it in place and it stops a, and all of a platt.
That's right.
And it's depending on your daughter's type of hair because there's different types.
my daughter's got like, like quite fine straight hair,
so it birds nest at the back quite easily.
Terrific.
So you do that in a platt, wake up in the morning.
You take it out and it's not all tangled,
then you brush it again,
and then I do a tight ponytail or a platt,
or I'm working on some other braids.
And all of a ponytail.
So yeah, it's about the night before.
Yeah.
And it's also just built.
And it's the morning, and you were like,
if you pause this last night,
and in the morning I'll start this up,
and James can tell me how to do a perfect morning ponytail.
It's too late.
It's too late.
It's over.
So yeah.
And also get a number, a couple of things.
Get a bottle that's just like a spray mist that's just water.
Get a detangling spray for kids.
Yep.
Get a regular fine brush.
It has to be fine.
Not a regular brush.
It's a fine brush.
A detangling spray is when your kids are fighting.
That's right.
And they're like,
and they're like, stop.
And also get a bunch of headbands, hair ties,
because they will go missing.
Oh, and if you're doing a tight,
ponytail, a slick back brush is really good, and like a wax stick to hold it in place.
That's some of the tips.
And again, I'm starting out on this as well.
So we're all on this journey together.
Not me.
No, you're not on it at all.
I tuned that out.
Because if I, what would happen is my brain's inclined to be like, I should take this information in for some reason.
I don't need it.
I tuned it out.
That's good.
