The Weekly Planet - Resident Evil: Extinction - Caravan Of Garbage
Episode Date: August 27, 2026The end of this third entry in the franchise officially marks the halfway point of our look at the six Milla Jovovich/Paul WS Anderson Resident Evil movies. And it might just be the highpoint of the ...series. Undead crows, dried out beef jerky desert zombies, a Mad Max setting plus the inclusion of both Claire Redfield and Albert Wesker, essential video game characters! These movies are good and will almost certainly without question remain good from here on out. Easy breezy, Mason.
What do you mean?
Well, we're the halfway point.
We're the third movie.
Well, we're in the middle portion of the six movies for the Resident Evil Hexology.
Easy Peasy Zombie Squeezy?
How's that sound?
Put that on a T-shirt.
Really good.
Really good, right?
How are you feeling about a dry zombie this time around?
Good, actually.
I know, right?
I mean, this, look, as...
Is this a good movie?
As qualified and accredited cultural anthropologists, which we are,
uh-huh.
This is the first one of these that looks like a real movie as we understand them in the modern day.
Right?
Doesn't look like a student.
film doesn't look like a music video from the 90s.
It's a real movie. Yeah, absolutely.
And there's a reason for that. It's directed by Russell Mulcahy.
Correct. Highlander. Yay. Highlander 2.
Other stuff. The Shadow.
Oh, yeah.
Still kind of like The Shadow. Yeah, we talked about it. Resident Evil Extinction?
This is the one.
So please leave a like because, yeah, we're talking all six Resident Evil, Paul W.S. Anderson,
Miller-Joveitch movies. He didn't direct all of them, especially not this one.
That's right.
So yeah, like you said, directed by Russell Mulcahy, who's a Melbourneite, born in Melbourne, famously.
I'm going to guess that the plan was originally to film this in Australia, because some of the cast are Australia.
Absolutely correct. They ended up moving it to Mexico.
And this is just Mad Max with zombies, really.
Correct, it is.
Which Mad Max also is, I guess.
As we learn in the opening narration, society's collapsed, the world has become a desert.
We see it a few times, we pan out to a satellite or whatever, and it's like, well,
The world is definitively a desert.
Remember that for follow-up movies.
That's right.
Society's completely collapsed.
You can fire one gun at a time if you want.
The police aren't there to stop you.
It's not a rule anymore.
It's not a rule.
When I first started watching this movie
and it opens with a nude wake-up,
another one.
I really thought, oh, I've bought the wrong movie.
I've bought the same movie twice.
It's so close to the original
that it genuinely tricked me.
That's right.
So yeah, but what is happening there, Mason,
that the umbrella corporation
who were doing better than ever.
Yeah, that's right.
They're making more profit than they ever have before.
They're cloning Alice's
because the real Alice got away
and giving her a little resonant evil gortlet,
like a little hits of the past situation
until she sees a thing she's never seen before
just a drone that flies up
and just shoots you with a hundred bullets.
I don't know how you're supposed to get out of that.
Yeah, yeah.
And then they roll that one into a ditch with the other alice's.
What do you think their red dress budget is?
Is the red dress essential?
I also have a note here.
It says they're really keeping that red dress manufacturer in business, aren't they?
Right?
Whoever's doing that?
Whoever's doing that?
They're like, wow, they're in a little bunker eating food out of a can.
They're like, man, society's really gone to the dogs, but they keep sending me checks for these red dresses.
I'm going to stitch him up.
So I remember seeing this at the time in 2007.
A couple of things struck me.
Oh, I think this is good, I think.
And two, oh, this is really unrealistic that this boardroom of billionaire ghouls, like, why would they do this to the,
world and just want to be kings of the dirt living like bugs under.
Just in there, just breathing recycled air underground, presumably eating all their food out
of cans and they're going, but the profits, look at all the profit we've made.
Just trading ones and zeros with other corporate ghouls underground or whatever.
And it's like these days, you're like, yeah, that does make sense.
They are doing that.
Yeah.
That is happening.
And of course, Albert Westger is here.
Soon to be recast.
So yeah, Jason O'Mara steps into the role of Albert Wesker, classic villain from the Resident Evil Games.
Doing his classic move sitting at a desk mostly.
Indoors with sunglasses on.
That's right. And he's a hologram man.
He's not even there.
He's in Japan doing whatever's happening there.
We'll find out in a next movie.
Probably samurai zombies or ninja zombies or whatever.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Salary man zombies.
Salary man zombies.
Nice food at the 7-11 zombies.
Yeah.
Speaking of zombies, Ian Glenn is back and he's like, I've got great news.
A couple of things.
Zombies don't need to eat flesh to survive
so they can live for potentially decades.
That's great research.
Well done.
Right for us. Very good.
And then he's like also,
I think I can reverse this thing that we did
so now we can have undead servants.
And Wesker's like,
this is good, continue your research
and don't do other research
to stick to these things that you're already doing.
What happened to the cure for the T virus
that we got at the end of the last movie?
Well, it doesn't work on the super zombies.
But it would work on other people.
Like if you got bitten,
by a zombie. Like surely if we know
that there's a cure for the T-Virus, surely
this movie should have been like a
quest to find somebody who can
replicate the cure for the T-virus
right, even if they only had like two left
at the end of the last movie, which they did, I think.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a good point.
Good point. I mean, people are still getting bitten
and turned. Yeah. Mike Epps is back.
Mike Epps is back! He's only firing one gun because he doesn't have to
fire two guns anymore. Doesn't need to, not legally mandated.
He won't get a ticket for it anymore. He gets bitten.
He gets bitten. He gets bitten. And then he spent, he spent. He's
The night with Nurse Ashanti.
Yes.
And she doesn't notice?
No, you'd think there'd be something you'd be used to.
Not even as a medical professional, just like...
You look sweaty and pale.
You look sweaty and pale and you're always hiding something on your body.
You're displaying all the symptoms of the hundreds of people I've seen before who have been bitten by a zombie and then get turned into a zombie.
I thought that was going to become a thing.
If I'm critical of this movie and James, I'm going to be.
Oh, no.
Neither of those characters like...
Their arc doesn't turn into anything.
No.
Like you might,
you'd think there'd be a moment where he,
you know,
he turns and she's portrayed or like the whole team is portrayed.
But there's just,
there's just a moment in it where they're being attacked by birds.
And he's like,
and then she's like,
oh no.
Oh, damn.
And then they just...
Wait, is that the bird bit or the later zombie bit?
I don't know, man.
There are being attacks, though.
But yeah, he just turns in the middle of another attack happening.
They're like, well, quickly deal with this.
Quickly do with this fella.
So also, I don't understand why.
Like a guy like that who's supposed to be a good guy
Is not telling people that he got bit
Which is a classic zombie thing
Getting bitten and being
I'm fine baby, don't even worry about it
And then like what do you think's gonna happen?
I think
Let me feel some gaps here for you, man
And you look confused
It's like...
I'm looking confused, I'm looking sweaty,
I'm looking pale
You're clutching
Nothing, don't worry about it, it's fine
But what all those symptoms are
That I'm curious about your explanation
of this plot hole
I think it's some kind of like toxoplasmosis virus.
You know, there's like certain animals get bit or infected with something, yeah.
And then they present in a way that passes on the infection.
Oh, yes, okay.
Like it changes their brain chemistry.
And I think that's what this virus does.
Like it makes you...
Shifty.
Keep it quiet and shifting.
Exactly.
Makes you behave suss.
Okay, sure.
Yeah, exactly.
Anyway, the experiments are going well because what Ian Glenn is doing,
He's invented a new type of zombie, a black-eyed zombie,
who can sort of use a digital camera.
Can wear a jumpsuit?
Can wear a jumpsuit?
Can do a baby's puzzle for about 27 seconds?
Can they use an arm-mounted laptop?
We don't know.
We don't know that technology's gone.
And you know what?
We don't know how to replicate it anymore.
We couldn't do it these days.
I asked a computer engineer.
I said, can you make me an arm-mounted laptop for these videos?
The remainder of these videos, he's like,
we can't, we don't know how many.
possible. Technology died with Bill Gates.
And he's like, oh, this is, this is great.
Because what he's really done also is made a more aggressive zombie that can throw a chair,
which would be good if you wanted to, like, get in a fight with a Waffle House employee.
That's right.
Using an army of zombies.
But, like, do you think Ian Glenn should get a promotion for his work?
Do you think he should get a pay rise, maybe a seat at the table?
Absolutely.
Just an army of zombie butlers with their little, with their little bow ties slightly askew.
Just, ah, it's confusing to me, I guess, the motivations of certain characters.
Yeah.
But I guess it is all profit related.
Here's a question, maybe you can answer this question.
Why is it that at the end of the last movie, O'Ded Faire and Mike Epps and Jill, who's not in this movie, they rescued Alice from the Umbrella Corporation at the start of this movie?
Yep.
They're not together anymore.
They all separated.
I can tell you that because this actually appears in a book.
Oh, a book?
I suppose you've read a book, have you?
No, I haven't.
Why would I read a resident evil book based around one of the movies?
And then the zombies were there and there were so many.
There was so many.
Everybody was scared, but not Alice.
She wasn't scared.
She had some knives and guns, which she used very effectively.
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, went the guns.
The dogs ran in and she dealt with those dogs effectively.
Big, big kick.
Okay, so yeah, between these movies and there's like four or five years in between or whatever it's supposed to be,
she killed that little girl because umbrella took over her brain.
Oh, no.
In the book.
In the book.
You don't want to show that in a movie, do you?
You don't want to show it in a movie, yeah.
So that's why she's gone into hiding.
She's gone rogue.
She went mad mac style, she got on a motorbike and she drove out into the desert.
Strong look, by the way.
I was going to say incredible.
Trenchcoach shorts, tights, boots, incredible look.
Great new hair, I thought.
Might be her best look from this series.
I think so too.
We're going to be seeing some slick-backed ponytails in weeks to come,
but I think this is the best one.
And she's gone out of the desert and she might be like a super-powered psychic super-soldier.
Well, she is.
She can levitate.
fucking rocks and bikes and stop fire.
With big kicks and big jumps and what have you.
But she's still fallen honestly for the oldest trick in the book.
Right at the start, there's a woman there and she's like,
help my baby.
I got a baby.
Help my baby, my actual real baby.
Fallin for that's rookie stuff in the wastelands.
If someone in a post-apocalyptic landscape
ask you to help their baby, you shoot them, you shoot the baby.
The baby's a zombie or just a little man.
Could be a little man, could be a dolly, could be a series of tin,
Cairns tied together in a blanket.
Could be a bomb.
Could be a bomb.
Yeah.
A bomb that shoots nails and poison and glass.
But nope, she falls for it.
These people have built their Thunderdome way too early.
Did you think?
What I assume is some sort of family?
They're just like, now have her fight zombie dogs.
How many people are coming through?
Yeah, what are you doing?
They're getting to fight zombie dogs.
I don't know.
They're having a good time.
You've got to have hobbies, I guess.
You do.
Even in the apocalypse.
That's the thing I think is if a real-life apocalypse happened,
people would start taking on the personas of characters they've seen in like Mad Max movies.
Yeah, you're probably right.
Like maybe if those movies didn't exist, we'd just get on with life.
But because those movies exist and we've seen them, we're like, okay, let's dress up as drum majors.
I'm going to strap a mannequin's head to my head and run around screaming about skeletons or whatever.
I don't know what they're doing.
I don't know what they're up to, Mason.
But you're right.
It's pop culture influences.
Exactly.
One of the characters in the, because Alice meets up.
up with their old friends.
Oh yeah.
He's talking about Kmart?
I'm talking about Kmart.
They meet up with all these characters, you know,
their old friends and they've started a kind of, you know, wagon train to make their way
through the apocalypse.
And one of the characters they've picked up is a young girl called Kmart, and they call
a Kmart because they found her in a Kmart.
And my question to you is if they found a you in the post-apocalypse.
Brashes.
Brash is nice.
Good.
I already thought about this.
I have a note for it.
I would pick the Australian retailer now defunct
brashes, spelt brash...
Brash...
Brash...
Yeah, nice.
What would you pick?
Wine bar.
Or, nespresso.
Oh, yeah.
Because I'm always getting those nespressos.
A little espresso.
Yeah.
Would you be in a suit, like a post-apocalyptic little suit?
I'd be Versacee Nespresso.
Wow.
Yeah, hell yeah.
So that's where people would find you.
That's right.
Having a Vesachchi espresso.
Yes.
A whole...
Yes.
Great.
Speaking of new characters, though, Claire Redfield is here.
Now, originally Jill Valentine was going to...
return. So that's why they've brought in another Resident Evil, like, mainstay character.
But Sienna Guillory, she was committed to the movie Aragon.
Oh, Eragon. Remember that about a Talking Dragon or whatever it was?
Could have been a franchise, but it wasn't, right? That was a book series that got one.
That's a series we should actually do for Caribander Garbage. Like that and like 10, 10 bones,
instrument of bones. Absolutely. Rolling Cities of Bones.
The Seeker. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Stuff like that. Divergent, resurgent.
Detergent.
Detention.
There we go.
We could do that.
It's interesting you would jump ship from a genre franchise to another potential genre franchise.
Yeah, absolutely.
I guess maybe if they were like, well, in this, you'll be the main, main character.
Yeah, or whatever you are in that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But instead we get Ali Lata, who's playing the most dangerous game there is,
which is traversing a zombie wasteland in Capri Pants.
What are you thinking?
Come on, man.
They're right.
They're always on the ground.
Yep, yep, yep.
You're like, well, there's no zombies up here currently.
There's someone biting your leg.
They don't have any legs, but they're biting you on the legs.
I'd be wrapping magazines around my legs with rubber bands.
You can't get through that, Mason.
You'd be wrapping the Brasches magazine.
I would.
The in-store magazine.
I would be doing that, yes.
This month, CDs.
Cedys and cassettes.
Rapping your legs up in the install magazine.
Maybe I'd pick Dimmys.
Dimmies and Forges, that'd be a good one, sure, yeah.
You could wrap your legs in Manchester.
I could.
A couple editions to this that I like.
Actually, this is an old edition.
We get the real world.
and then it cuts to a hologram map
and then it cuts back to the real world.
Hell yeah.
Happens twice.
That's my favourite thing
in a Resident Evil movie.
They're getting really good at it too.
They're getting really good at my face.
I mean, you can do it now on your phone.
Watch us do it on our phone right now.
And the other thing is there's a really big sequence
that you mentioned before with crows.
And I think that's pretty interesting zombie crows.
They only use two real crows, the rest of CGI.
Ah, obviously.
Handled by, hang on, the visual effects here are handled by,
let me, how do I say this?
Tta, T, T, T, T, T, T, T.
Tertopoulos Studios?
What?
He's back.
Patrick Tettatatopopoulos.
What's he doing here?
I don't know, but he's doing some of the visual effects.
He was the guy, the Godzilla guy.
That's what I'm saying.
Patrick Tata Tadopoulos.
I did not know that.
There it is.
And this is also the sequence that you remember for the next one.
When you're like, should I see the next Resident Evil movie?
What happened in the last one?
Flamethrower Skycros.
I think it's that.
And I also think it's shipping container of Vegas.
zombies. I think those two things
were the things that stood out to me about this movie
and they held up pretty well.
Agreed. Yeah, going to like just buried Vegas
is a great idea. And they don't
try to make it like bigger than it needs
to be. It's not like Zach Snyder Army
The Dead style. I would think it's appropriately
budgeted and sized.
Agreed. Crispy and dry zombies as well.
Don't mind if I do, Mason. The zombie effects, the makeup
looks way better. Yeah. You know.
Absolutely. How do you feel about Alice being
able to get frozen like a computer game?
And her eyes turned into the Resident Evil logo or whatever.
I think that's great.
Perfect.
It's good.
It's good.
Yeah.
Don't look up.
If you know there's satellites looking at you, by the way,
don't be looking up.
Don't be looking around.
Look down.
Look down, man.
That's where the zombies with no legs are.
That's where they're going to get you too.
Anyway, getting back to Dr. Isaacs.
He actually morphs into the tyrant from Resident Evil One
because he got bit by a super zombie or whatever.
He got bit by a super zombie.
And his absolute nerd of a second in command,
like,
I'm going to, you've gone too far in Glenn.
We're not going to give your pay rise.
I'm going to give you a demotion.
you're going to live in the weird vents or whatever.
But I'm going to shoot you in the leg.
What are you doing?
Come on, man.
I'll shoot you in the chest.
No, shoot him in the head.
You should have just close.
Look at him.
Close all the doors and gas in.
What are you doing?
Look at him.
Bring in some chainsaw guys with bags on their heads.
God.
What are you thinking?
Ridiculous.
Idiot.
But to get in there.
Dumb nerd.
I know.
To get in there, though, to have a showdown with Dr. Isaac's.
Fed Fair has to do a big sacrifice, which I like big explosion,
truck, zombie explosion.
Hell yeah.
But he has a moment with Atlas where they have a kiss and I'm like, oh, is this a thing
in these movies?
Was that something, the last movie that I, they're a couple that were going to be a couple?
I guess, you know, things happen in books between movies.
I guess it could have been in the books.
And then one of them said, hey, I'm always been in love with you.
And when the other one was like, I'm in love with you to do a big kiss,
but don't tell anybody.
Let's keep it quiet.
Let's keep it for the books.
This is one for the books.
Books, romance.
One thing I also don't like about this movie is they've just given up on making a hologram girl.
It's just a girl in the room.
Just lit up really bright.
Well, that's because the hologram is so good.
Yeah.
She just looks like a girl in a room.
Well, holograms in this are so good.
So you are right.
But I know you've had the question.
Why is the white queen only in this movie?
Because you remember all the movies.
Yeah, sure.
Red queens.
Red queens.
I mean, you've got to have a spooky girl who's like, hello.
Let me help you open a door or close a door.
You're going to be a dead, dead guy.
Goodbye.
You know?
Yeah.
Classic computer hologram.
It really is.
No explanation has been offered for absence in the rest of the series
until the novelisation of Resident Evil the final chapter,
which states that she and the Red Queen are actually the same form of AI.
So it's just supposed to be the same one.
So you thought that they were different than not.
They're the same.
I did think that were different.
They're the same, Mason.
Anyway, showdown with Monster Ian Glenn who's like,
I am the future.
You're too sticky and weird.
I don't think you can be the future, man.
You're not getting a promotion, I think, with this look that you're doing.
No.
How would you even get a suit that would fit you properly or a lab coat?
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't think people are going to respect you because you're too goopy.
Yeah, man.
You know, in a board meeting?
Yeah.
You know, you're like, we can say it was like 27%.
And that might be true.
Yeah.
But it's who's delivering it, you know?
It's the messenger, isn't it?
You know?
It's not the message, it's the messenger.
Exactly.
But I do like, and this is a dream come true for me.
Yes.
That they revisit the.
the laser hallway and I'm like, oh my God.
I mean, they do it twice technically.
They do it right at the start.
Which is fine.
It's a fine one.
She avoids it.
She avoids it easily.
I bet you wish you had the super jump Colin Salman.
Popular character James One Shade in the first movie.
Could have just super jumped your way out of that.
Yeah, definitely, man.
So yeah, but the second time they come here, I'm like, oh my God, we're going to get
Ian Glenn cubed.
I can't believe I didn't remember this.
This is going to be incredible.
But the thing is, Mason.
Don't even say it.
It's not incredible.
No wonder I didn't.
I don't remember it. It's just, it's a downgrade of the previous one, which also had, like, had potential to take it much further than they didn't. They should have done it here and they didn't, Mason.
They'd spent too much on CGI crow flamethrower scene and not enough on building little cubes. Yeah, man. Cubs of a man. Cubs of a man. Well, maybe after what happened to the last cubes of a man, that German pervert got him. That's true, actually. They could risk that happening again. Yeah, no, you're probably right. Because you know he'd love this one. It's all tentacled and whatever.
Yeah, oh yeah. Oh, yeah. Anyway, I'm mad about that, actually.
Yes.
But what I'm not mad about is there's a bunch of different alices
and they're ready for a big Alice showdown.
That's right.
God, that's a lot of alices.
I looked at that and I went,
damn, that's a lot of alices.
Does this pay off in the next one or subsequent ones?
I think briefly, yes.
Oh, I think they all killed immediately.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaking of, special guest star, Lyndon Ashby in this movie.
Yes.
Mortal Kombat's own of Mortal Kombat fame.
And I see him and he's kind of a techs cowboy kind of guy.
And I'm like...
He's like a James Marsden fella.
Is he going to do a big speech?
spin kick, one of his famous spin kicks.
Or he's dropped to the...
He just dies...
Well, he does drop
onto a fake Eiffel Tower and is killed very quickly.
That wasn't the real Eiffel Tower?
I mean, it might have been.
We don't know, actually.
It's a post-apocalyptic future.
We don't know what they're getting up to.
I mean, maybe umbrellas spending billions of dollars
to move the real Eiffel Tower
from post-apocalyptic France
to post-apocalyptic Las Vegas and shrinking it a bit.
Why not?
I mean, you got the money.
If you got the money, you've got the resources.
So, yeah,
The things you remember, just to reiterate,
crows, zombies in a shipping container in Vegas.
Can we agree on that?
Agreed.
Okay.
Can we agree on this?
Yes.
It's time for resident trivia, third times of trivia.
Oh, very good.
Alice's new costume was designed by Miller Jovovich's clothing line,
Jovovovich, Hawk.
Oh.
Maybe that's where you could be found in the apocalypse.
At Jovovovich Hawke, maybe.
You could be called Jovovovich Haw.
That sounds really good.
You could wear that outfit that Alice wore.
Hell yeah.
Hell yeah.
It's a good look.
Yeah.
Who's hawk?
I guess the person who does the real work.
Not to us.
Not to sell her short, Mason.
Do you think maybe she got her designs
whispered in her ear by a hawk?
Which sounds like one of those wacky things
that the Holly Weirds get up to, doesn't it?
It probably is, yeah.
Well, speaking of Mason.
Go on.
Leon S. Kennedy, Cindy Lennox, and Chris Redfield.
I don't know who's Cindy Lennox is.
It doesn't matter.
It's not important.
We're all rumored to appear in this movie
with Jensen Ackles as Leon,
Deborah Marshall as Cindy and Charlie Clawson as Chris Redfield.
Australia's own Charlie Clauseen, because this was going to be filmed in Australia.
That's right.
Anyways, we know Charlie Clause.
Correct, we do.
And like I did, but I reached out with a rumoured casting of him being Prince Daston.
Okay.
In the Prince of Persia movie, I reached out to him for this.
Yes.
And he said, bloody hell, not this again.
Much like Prince of Persia, I think this was an over-excited fan,
seeing a picture of me from some blue healers and the blue uniform crossed
with my admittedly square computer game character-shaped head
convinced them that I was born to play Chris Redfield.
I'd actually forgotten about this one,
probably because thankfully I was not accused of taking a job away
from a person of colour this time around.
So he was not asked about this at all at any point.
So yeah, but good to know.
Exactly.
And if we have any more gloss and casting,
you're going to see him here first.
That's right.
And also, if Hollywood's listening,
you know, the new DCU is being created as we speak,
I think he looks a lot like Scott Free.
Isn't that interesting?
I'm just saying throw him in the mix.
Hollywood.
I completely agree.
Throw him in there.
You think he could be a Scott free?
Yes.
Like a Scott free production?
Yes.
Or is it Free Scott?
Ridley Scott's the first one.
Yeah, good.
Yeah, good, that's good.
Anyways, box office on a budget of 45 million the same as the previous one.
You get more bank for your buck here, though, I feel.
That's right.
Because one of the points here was that Russell Mulcahy was like, we're doing zombies in the light.
We're doing it in the sun.
And it makes a huge difference, I think, than like,
Savage Garden Corridors or whatever.
Agreed.
This made $147.7 million, which is up on the $129 of the previous.
Resident Evil is big again, Mason.
Resident Evil is unstoppable.
This is an unstoppable wagon train through the desert.
None of those tires are going to burst, let me tell you.
Nobody's going to just drive directly into a pole.
And then they're stuck, I guess.
Then the car's broken down completely because they just ran into a small pole.
How many people were left at the end in that team of desert dwellers?
Alice.
Is it just Alice?
and all the alices.
Okay, all right.
There wasn't anyone else on that...
No, because there was like a bus full of...
Yeah, Claire Redfield gets out, I think.
Good for her.
Yeah.
She's an important character.
And miscellaneous.
And, yeah.
That Australian guy, no, I think he dies.
He dies, man.
He dies big time.
Another guy?
Mr. Cairns?
The guy who's like, I know it's in every can.
That's my power.
Damn.
They call me Cairns.
I wish I knew what was in every can.
Because I was born in Cairns.
Was he?
Yep.
That makes sense.
Anyways, like last week on the week before,
it's good to ask yourself,
What does Roger Ebert think of this movie?
Oh, very good.
Because if you remember from the previous two,
it's like, I hate these and if you see them, you're an idiot.
And if you take your children, they should take your children.
Yeah.
Well, of course, this film is not screened for critics because these aren't four critics, Mason.
They're for the fans, sort of who hate these, I think.
They're for a very small subset of the fans who have played the games
and are also willing to entertain the notion of a movie that's sort of based on the games.
That's right.
It's a very small slice of that.
Oh yeah, we're right in there.
Roger Ebert was so disgusted by the second film that he refused to review any more of these films.
Did he send one of his little minions?
No, I don't think he did.
I mean, I can check his website to see if there is a review for it, but he himself was like,
Resident Evil, no thank you, and not ever again.
Wow.
I think he could have got a kick out of this one, though.
Keep an open mind, Roger Ebert.
Keep an open mind, Roger Ebert.
I'd like to think he's keeping an open mind in heaven, Mason.
Me too.
Yeah.
What for what sort of stuff?
Resident Evil movies.
Oh, just Resident Evil movies, alright.
That's it.
Anyways, you want to hint towards next week?
That's Resident Evil for.
Whatever that one's called.
Afterlife.
Whoa, good memory, if that's true.
Could be.
These would be easier if they were numbered.
I tell you what, basically.
Yeah.
And you know what they say.
After life.
After wife.
You know it, brother.
You know it better than anyone.
That's right.
Anyways, if you do want to say that early, you can,
at three places.
Big Sandwich.com.
Patreon.com slash Mr. Sunday movies
or YouTube membership.
We've also got bonus stuff.
We've looked at,
uh, recently we looked at the
Resident Evil 2 video game. That's a bonus thing if you do want to look at that.
We've got other resident evil play-throughs including four.
And other stuff. And movie commentaries.
If you're not some sort of Resident Evil obsessive.
Yeah, yeah, man. We got all the things that you love.
You like movies? You like X-Men?
Yep. You like Spider-Man?
Yep. Good.
So all that's there.
Yeah, it's all there. It's all there.
It's all there, man. All the Spider-Man stuff.
Yeah, man. We also have a podcast. It's called The Weekly Planet's on its own YouTube
channels, etc., etc., where you get a podcast.
It's time for us to go, because I'm pretty sure we have to watch three more.
Resident Evil movies.
Congratulations on reaching the halfway point, Mason.
How do you feel do you still have wind in your sails?
I got a little bit more wind.
All right.
But I suspect I'm going to turn a corner
and somebody's going to punch me directly in the gut.
Damn.
Well, good luck.
Thanks, man.
And Godspeed.
Thank you.
And grabbed our jam.
We'll see you next week.
