The Weekly Planet - Space Jam: A New Legacy - Caravan Of Garbage

Episode Date: August 7, 2026

It's a very upsetting time for us all having to revisited Space Jam 2. I mean sure it stars four times champion NBA superstar LeBron James plus the Looney Tunes plus every IP Warner Brothers has ever... had their sweaty hands on (Game of Thrones, The Matrix, Gremlins, Harry Potter, Clockwork Orange, IT, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, The Joker, Rick & Morty, Mad Max etc). The result is a more Ready Player One than Roger Rabbit which some people might like but I don't like that. Starting point is 00:00:00 An hour 55 for space jam too is criminal. You shouldn't do that to a man. Everybody involved should be in prison. Agreed. The first was a crisp and clear hour 28. And to be clear, I never liked it. I never liked it when I saw it originally. I never liked the rewatch.
Starting point is 00:00:15 That's it. That's all I have to say. I don't like these movies. I got no love for them. I don't care about them. Sure. Impressed me, Bunny, is what I say. But do you like how the actual space jam in this
Starting point is 00:00:26 takes like an hour and nine minutes to get started? The other movie was wrapping up at that point. What are we doing? I guess the idea is you start them both at the same time and you watch all of the first space jam and then you switch over the second space jam and then you've got another space jam ready to go. That's true.
Starting point is 00:00:44 You're immediately onto the space jam. God. So yeah, we're looking at 2D live action hybrid movies. We've done a couple already and it's been a hell of a ride. A real roller coaster up, then down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down. And you go, wait, was that it? And the surly teen at the end goes, yeah, it's a roller coaster that sucks.
Starting point is 00:01:05 What do you want from me? Set it on the side, rollercoasters that sucks. So please leave a like for Space Jam, a new legacy, a movie that was decades in the works. We talked about the aftermath of back in action and what happened after the first space jam. And it was going to be Spy Jam and then Tony Hawk Jam. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Just Jam. Just a jar of jam.
Starting point is 00:01:28 You look at it for nearly two hours. Jam Jam. Jam. Jam. Absolutely. So Justin Lin was originally on this movie, but he left to direct F9 and also Fast X, which he then also left for obvious reasons. Terrence Nance was also the original director. Who? We'll talk about him a bit later. Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:47 But he voluntarily stepped down during production due to creative differences. Okay. And he was replaced by Malcolm D. Lee. Okay. Who I looked up and he has done some stuff. He directed undercover brother. Oh yeah. Scary movie 5. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:10 This show. A New Legacy. He heard of it? I know it. regular LeBron, 6'9 LeBron James, right, with a little baseball cap on backwards, maybe with a propeller on the top, shoes on his knees. It worked for Dorf on golf. It did work for golf on golf. It'll work for this, right? But it's just, whatever, it's fine, I guess. And look, I like LeBron James.
Starting point is 00:02:42 I don't know anything about him. He's probably a very nice man. I don't know. And my understanding is this movie, though, the haters over at the golden raspberries or whatever, the bad movie awards were like, we're giving him. award for the worst actor or whatever. Who cares? He's a basketball player.
Starting point is 00:03:00 What do you want? I think he's fine in this. He did as good as Michael Jordan did. That is to say, a pretty wooden performance all around because he's acting against cartoons. He's acting against cartoons. The most acting he's done before, there's probably a bunch of credit card commercials or whatever. Wasn't he in train wreck? Maybe.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Yeah, I don't know. But that's the thing, because he's not Michael Jordan. He's as good as Michael Jordan, but he's not Michael Jordan. So people are like, well, they didn't get Michael Jordan back. Well, so he's bad. your fault. Mason, I think you'll find that there is a Michael Jordan in this movie.
Starting point is 00:03:31 I think you'll find. I don't know, I don't know about that, James. I don't know about that, James. Let's roll the footage. Oh, I'm quite the fool now. I do like that bit. Yeah, okay, all right. Look, there's a couple of good jokes in this movie.
Starting point is 00:03:41 I can't recall any off the top of my head, but maybe I'll think of one later. Oh, granted does The Matrix. Twice! There's a great joke. Oh, wow. As a beautiful homage. I will say this.
Starting point is 00:03:50 I didn't like the movie. I didn't like this movie when it came out in the depths of, you know. The bad times. Sure. And now things are good. No, we're still in the bad times. And I don't like it now. I don't think it's a good movie particularly.
Starting point is 00:04:03 But I think what puts it in perspective as we saw Lunitians back in action last week, which was atrocious. So you think this is better than that? Yes. Wow, really. Do you not? I don't know. It's too like IP heavy and like wink wink. What if Water Brothers made terrible products?
Starting point is 00:04:19 Well, they do. They do. So jokes on us, I guess. Very much so. The consumer is the loser, as always. Which I believe is Warner Brothers's slogan. The consumer is the loser. The consumer is the loser.
Starting point is 00:04:31 We got you. Yeah. You're right. It is IP slop, extravaganza. It's an attempt to replicate ready player one, I think, which only worked even slightly because they got one of the greatest filmmakers in the world to make it, Steven Spielberg. This is much worse.
Starting point is 00:04:45 But I think this at least flows better than back in action. Well, it's more kind of the narrative is more straightforward, I guess. Yeah, there's no magic. all it turns men into monkeys. Yeah, and whatever. It's just like, oh, I have to play basketball. Oh, I need a team. I've got one.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Let's play basketball. So, you know. No, it takes... I don't play basketball, but play domble. Domball Gleason? Domball Gleason, yes. But yeah, so it starts in 1999,
Starting point is 00:05:13 yeah, with a flashback. And LeBron, he loves Looney Tunes and playing Game Boy. But these coaches like, you can't like Looney Duny Dunes or play Game Boy. You've got to be LeBron James all day. And so he... And then he just throws that Game Boy in the trash. I know.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Some kid could have really loved that. No. Some kid could have become a pro gamer. Maybe there's another movie spinning off from this where some kid finds that Game Boy in the trash. And they make Game Boy games. Oh my God. They become a pro game game maker.
Starting point is 00:05:40 And then that system becomes obsolete, you know, the day it came out. And in the modern day he's got two sons, one who's basketball, and the other one is video games. That's right. And a daughter who is of no consequence. Oh, yeah. He has a daughter. So I looked it up. He does have two sons and a daughter.
Starting point is 00:05:55 in real life, but they didn't... None of this. None of this, no. Yeah. And his son, whose video games can build video games and his 12,
Starting point is 00:06:01 and his video game is... It's NBA jam, but you could get style points and you can get posterized. Remember that? That's important for later. Very important.
Starting point is 00:06:09 And he wants to go to E3 video game camp weekend. That's right. But his dad's like, you'll never be in the NBA if you've played E3 all day? That's too much pressure to put on your children.
Starting point is 00:06:20 I think, look, I understand that you want your kids to like maybe follow in your footsteps. You want your kids to be exactly, exactly like you. I get it. But I feel like at a certain point, maybe if you're one of the greatest basketball players in the world and of all time, maybe your kids can't live up to that. So maybe just let them do what they want. I mean, even though one of his kids does play in the team with him, he's not as good as LeBron James. Who's no Michael Jordan, if you ask me, because they're different men.
Starting point is 00:06:44 They're different men. They both have different attitudes, wouldn't you say? I would say they have different attitudes. One's far angrier even now, today. You better believe it. But one has real hair. Who's to say which. It's not LeBron James. He used to paint his hair on order. What? Yeah, he's got... Is that in the opening montage of him going to different teams and becoming more and more successful? Is there a bit where he paints his hair on? But his beard's real. His beard is real, yeah. Okay, all right. But anyway, Warner Brothers has a new technology. Oh, but I was going to say, but LeBron's like, you can't go to E3 Supergame camp. Yeah. Follow your dreams camp. You're going to go to basketball camp, which are on the same weekend.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Which I guess they would be. Because nobody has both of those skill sets. That's true, actually, yeah. You can't. You've got to pick one and put the other in the bin. Except Larry Bird, who was a famous Game Boy game developer. He was the one who picked the Game Boy out of the trash. Did he really?
Starting point is 00:07:35 Yeah, yeah, Larry Bird. I love that about Larry Bird. But Warner Brothers, they have an idea because they've invented Warner 3,000. Wait, Warner Brothers doesn't have any ideas. Well, they invented the ideas machine. You don't know they did. I think it may be sprung up naturally. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Because, like, they don't have any ideas, do they? Yeah, that's true. They purchased a bunch of ideas. So creators of the past, they purchased their ideas for a pittance. And then all those creators died penniless. And good. Yeah. So they've got an algorithmic, cool, stylish man called Al J.Rhythm.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Awful. But look, 100% commitment from Donald Frank Chedel Jr. Absolutely. I think he's doing a good job. I think it gets better as the movie progresses. I think his initial appearance, I'm like, this is a little wooden. Maybe they filmed that last. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:21 And he's like, I don't care anymore. I'm tired. I'm thirsty. My check hasn't arrived yet. Can you let me out? No? All right. So their idea is, and I want to dig down for this.
Starting point is 00:08:30 So it's the algorithm's idea. Yep. They bring in LeBron James, famous basketball superstar with lots of social media followers, very famous man. Lots of hair. And they just retroactively insert him
Starting point is 00:08:45 into their pre-existing media. So they put him in Batman, as Mr. Freeze. Batman versus LeBron. They put him in Game of Thrones. LeBron of Thrones? Can I ask you this and other stuff? It doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Harry Potter. So LeBron, but he's a man at Hogwarts? Yep. What are you talking about? I don't know the point is. He's been held down. I guess. Because he's good at basketball, but not at magic.
Starting point is 00:09:08 So he's had to stay down a few years. But I guess my question is, because he's shown in a kind of like that 3D animated style. Is that what the end product would be? Or would it be photorealistic Game of Thrones? with real LeBron James. Okay. Because I'm not sure anybody's watching
Starting point is 00:09:27 3D animated Game of Thrones with 3D animated LeBron James in it. What's the target market for this? Is it people who want to watch Game of Thrones again but with LeBron James in it? Or is it a sector of the market that didn't watch Game of Thrones because LeBron James wasn't in it?
Starting point is 00:09:45 I don't know. Right? But it is interesting that we've got to the point where people are like, well, you can make your own movies and you can put whoever you want in a movie. You can scan your own face and then you'll be John Wick. You can be in the...
Starting point is 00:09:56 I don't want to do that. I want someone to make a movie that they think is good and like. And then sometimes I might be like, that sucks. But at least somebody made it. Yeah. But it's also weird because their ideas or LGRhythm's ideas for what to do with LeBron James is basically the idea of this movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:13 It's just slightly worse versions of that. And interestingly and accurately, LeBron James sees this and he says, this is bad. This is a bad idea. And it's a, it's a, it's terrible. It's not interesting, and I'd be the star of this, and it's not good. Initially, he's like, well, I don't have time to do this.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Yeah, and they're like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. And then he's like, but it's also bad. I don't want this. No one wants this, and he's correct. He is correct, yeah. Otherwise, they would have done it already. That's true, yeah. They would have skipped making Space Jam a new legacy, and they would have just put LeBron
Starting point is 00:10:48 James in a bunch of stuff. Harry Potter. Harry Potter. But LeBron James. But it turns out that Algyrhythm, he loves LeBron James. And he thinks that this pitch... Because he's been watching LeBron James. That's right.
Starting point is 00:11:01 Through cameras and internet. It's right. In his bathroom and such. Yeah. All the cameras inside LeBron James's house? Oh, yeah. Okay, good. And so he thinks this pitch will make LeBron an additional level of superstardom
Starting point is 00:11:16 and it'll make Alge rhythm famous throughout the world. I reckon just announce you exist Alge rhythm. Yeah. It's weird that Warner Brothers have somehow created an artificially intelligent being. Or they bought it. They bought it. Or it spawned accidentally. And it's like it's sentient and it has thoughts and emotions.
Starting point is 00:11:36 Yeah. It's angry. It's angry. And they just left him in a box somewhere. But then I'm like... Well, because he grooms children. I was going to say he does groom children. He grooms a child in this movie.
Starting point is 00:11:46 He puts a child on his goon squad. Which is a, which is an unfortunate. It's an unfortunate evolution of the language that the meaning of that word has changed over the years over the last, just a few years, you know? Anything can happen. Anything can happen. But speaking of anything can happen.
Starting point is 00:12:05 So this is an actual sequel to the original space jam, which means the Michael Jordan thing really happened. Right. Right. But now all the Looney Tunes and all the IP at Warner Brothers live inside a computer server. Because previously they lived in the space. No, the centre of the earth in hell or whatever.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Did they? Because Michael Jordan gets pulled into the centre of the earth through a golf course. Oh, yeah. So did they all get... Maybe Jeff Bezos bought hell and they all got evicted or something and they had to migrate to the serververse or whatever. So they're the same guys, I guess. I guess so, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Which also means back in action happened. But yeah, is that in the same universe? Also, like, did Michael Jordan not tell anybody about what happened to him? No. The trauma that was inflicted on in space? Jam. Nobody knows. This is a famous space jam. It's live streamed. Yeah, because in his rage that he was rejected by LeBron, Algae Rhythm. And again, I don't know why they've done this, but Warner Brothers has supplied Al J. Rhythm with one of those tron lasers that sucks you off into a computer. And it sucks LeBron into the computer. Right in there. And then he's like, oh, you have to play a basketball game against me. Otherwise, I'm going to erase your kid from existence and other stuff. I don't know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Some vague stuff. You know, Tron? I'm doing that. Yeah. I'm doing Tron. If you remember Tron. Yeah, kind of. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I kind of do remember that. I mean, I'm busy. I'm LeBron James. Yeah, yeah. I'm busy playing basketball 80% of the time. And then a remainder of the time, I'm spray painting my head, I guess. According to you, James. This is what people are saying.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Okay. And the first place to get stuck is the dusty-ass Looney Tunes world. And oh, yeah, it's the rabbit season, duck season joke. I guess we've just referenced that every fucking week, haven't we? It was charming at first. Once again, in 1947 it was charming. I agree. But also, this animated bit, it's all right.
Starting point is 00:14:01 I don't mind it. It's kind of, uh, it's, it looks nice and they visit the DC animated universe and whatever. It would be nice if they got any of the DC animated voice actors in to do. Oh, instead of just standing there. Instead of just standing there. Just give them, it'd be nice if they gave Tim D.M. famous voice of Superman in the DCAU, I don't know, one line? Yeah, but wouldn't it be more interesting if they didn't?
Starting point is 00:14:24 That's true. Then they give more money to LeBron James, who famously doesn't have any money. They didn't pay him for those credit card commercials. They did it? No? Or probably crypto commercials, I assume that he did? Probably, I don't know. I'll take this out if he didn't.
Starting point is 00:14:37 If it's in here, it means he did it. Nice. But all the tunes have left Bugs money alone because they had the promise of living in other realities on the serververse, which also makes total sense that they would want to do that, right? Why wouldn't you want to be Superman or do the Matrix? Do the Matrix or do a fucking Game of Thrones, but you're the chicken. Why wouldn't you want that? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:15:01 So of course, you know, LeBron wants to, he has to, in the tradition of Space Jam, he has to get a team together. And he wants to get, he thinks because, you know, Warner Brothers owns all these different IPs, why not look at all the IPs and say, hmm, what a, what a, what a delightful set of IPs. they own here. Oh, great. Let's get some great basketball players from these various IPs. But Bugs' plan is, of course, to just lure back all his tune friends.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Yeah. And so I think that sequence where they go through the various IPs that are owned by the Warner Brothers Corporation. This is Rick and Morty. Rick and Morty is their cancelled guy. Is he the only cancelled guy in this, probably? Yeah, probably. Initially, I'm like, oh, this is fun.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Yeah, he gets a Wiley Coyote and Mad Max. That was fun, yeah. It's great. But once again, it would have been nice if they'd gotten. somebody else who was in that movie to cameo or something. I think it's good they didn't. I think it's good they went to Casablanca World. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:54 So LeBron's initial team idea is Superman, King Kong, Iron Giant, Trinity, Batman. And this is what he's got next to Superman's name. It points to wild card and agility. What are you talking about? Heat vision. Indestructible. Can fly. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:08 He's got next to King Kong. Punches a hole through the Joker in the injustice universe. Exactly. It punches his heart right out. He can do that to Al J. Rhythm. Or his son, because his son's on the other team. Yep. King Kong has power and speed, I guess.
Starting point is 00:16:22 I don't think he has speed at all. And Iron Giant, there's an arrow that points to the word player. Do you not know anything about these characters or basketball? Who, fuck, his idea is this? And the team is solid. But your reasoning is bad. Look, I don't know anything about the behind the scenes of the game of basketball, or really anything about the game of basketball.
Starting point is 00:16:41 But maybe pre-game, the rest of the team and the coach, just let LeBron, James. names go ham on a whiteboard. And he just draws a bunch of arrows. And he goes, this one's player. This one's wild card. Okay. You've got agility.
Starting point is 00:16:55 And they go, okay. And then the coach is just like, just do the regular players. It's fine. We'll win because LeBron James is on the team. Just let him have this. So Lola Bunny returns in this. And I don't know if you know this,
Starting point is 00:17:04 but it was controversial. And it's not just because dorks don't find her as sexy anymore. Right. I mean, it is that. Okay. Some dorks find this controversial. Doesn't she look the same? She's slightly different, I guess.
Starting point is 00:17:16 I don't have a fucking photographic memory of Lola Bunny anymore. Well, I mean, you know, you'd have to push out your photographic memory of that fox made Marion from Robin Hood. The one that you love. The one that you love, you love her. Is that the one you printed off for me? Yes. And said, could you sign this? I don't know why you want me to sign it.
Starting point is 00:17:35 I don't know either. I can sign it. Yeah. So, Kath Susie, she was set to reprise her role as Lola Bunny, and she'd even recorded all her dialogue, but then was replaced by Zendaya. Zendaya is famous. That's right. She was famous then and she's famous now. Even more famouser now.
Starting point is 00:17:49 Yeah, I like the Themiscaria section, actually. Yeah, I like that it was kind of, it even felt more like comic panels. I thought that was fun. Yeah, so the fact that it was a different universe from the DCAU, so it had a different art style. I thought that was, that's impressive. Yeah. Technically, this movie is quite impressive, some of the time.
Starting point is 00:18:07 That's the thing, because as soon as the game starts and they bring in the Goon Squad, that his 12-year-old son-in-old son-in-old. Isn't that your catchphrase? Bring in the Goon Squad. What do you say? I do say that a lot. But it's unrelated to this, just to be clear. My Goode Squad is different.
Starting point is 00:18:23 Then everybody from Ready Player 1 comes to watch. It's fucking gremlins and knock-off versions of various DC characters. It's Mr. Freeze, but it's just a guy dressed as Mr. Freeze. It's penny-wise. Fucking the gang from Clockwork Orange is here. The mask, but it's not accurate. The costume's not accurate. No, it's not right.
Starting point is 00:18:42 The shirt's wrong. The horny murder nuns from the movie The Devils are there. This is really good. Just whoever. Yeah. But in addition to that, real people get zapped in. Yeah. Also, they're too close to the court.
Starting point is 00:18:54 I don't like how close they are, because also you can see them all the time and where they're looking. And they've clearly filmed them all separately, because they're never looking or cheering at the right things. And they're all in a loop. Yes, exactly. Because also, LG Rhythm says, if you lose basketball, LeBron James,
Starting point is 00:19:10 you've got to stay in the server verse, and I'm going to delete the Looney Tunes, and every person I've brought in here is trapped also. But they're just cheering whoever during the game. And it's like, dude, if LeBron loses this game, your life is over. You live here now. Okay, but bearing in mind, they're part of a once-in-a-lifetime event, and they're dumb. Because they're the general public, right?
Starting point is 00:19:33 They're the dumbest guys. So, you know, they're probably just like, this is different. We don't have to go to work. We got merch. They gave us free merch. Big foam fingers. Yeah, that's good, too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:45 But also, like, explaining the. rules of the game and who's trapped there and who's getting deleted and what different skills you can have and step on and you can get style point. It's like, fuck me. This sucks. This is where, not that it was ever good at this point, I feel like, not solidly. You mean the game of basketball? Yeah, that's right. Wow. I preferred it when it was white men going, come on boys. Come on boys. Come on boys. Come on boys. The ring is at five feet high. Everybody can dunk now. What do you think of the game of Domb ball? Sucks. Let me ask you this, though, would it work as a video game?
Starting point is 00:20:18 I mean, there are versions of this. It's not a new idea. It's NBA Jam. Yeah, and there's been various versions of games like this since, you know? So, yeah, it's fine. It's whatever, but it's just like, you've got a thousand points because you've got to, you went back in time, you've got a time machine. Fucking out.
Starting point is 00:20:34 God, this is so long. Like, it should be wrapping up, but it's just starting. The fucking Space Jam. It's an hour and nine minutes in. It's not even in space. It should be called CyberSpace Jam. with the goons man. Not bad.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Not a bad title. Internet jam. Yeah. God. And just looking in the background, it's like, oh, it's the Persians
Starting point is 00:20:55 from the movie 300. Oh, it's the Warkin Phoenix Joker, I think, or a guy that's sort of dressed like it. But the Jack Nicholson Joker is also there. Yeah, but like,
Starting point is 00:21:04 why are these people in focus? Because, like, if you can't actually use archival footage or get them, don't put them in. Because in the original game, you can kind of see him in the background,
Starting point is 00:21:13 and you have a vague idea. I shouldn't be able to look and go, That's not Arnold Schwarzenegger. I shouldn't be able to do that. You're saying that in the crowd there should be clips from the famous movies. So there should be Jack Nicholson's Joker executing Bruce Wayne's parents in front of him.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Yes. For example. In the crowd over and over again. I mean, Pennywise is there. He eats children. He does eat children. But he's allowed to enjoy a game of basketball like anybody else.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Yeah, sure. But also, why is his son at this point? I know he's a boy and it's like, oh, my dad doesn't like video. Because he got groomed. Yeah, he got groomed. But like, he also is told, explicitly that his dad will be trapped in here and the Looney Tunes will be deleted and he's like,
Starting point is 00:21:50 I'm going to play basketball. What are you doing? Well, I mean, he got groomed, yes. He got groomed, but also he doesn't have any connection to the Looney Tunes. LeBron does. What LeBron should have done is taught him the fundamentals of basketball and trying your best, but also an insatiable love for the Looney Tunes. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:22:07 Bought him all the merch. You know, just put your hobbies on your kids, you know, make them like, you like this. And then maybe he would have loved the Looney Tunes. Yeah, you may be right. Oh, also, they're 3D now. They become 3D. Which is worse. I thought it was alright.
Starting point is 00:22:22 No, I mean, like, it's just, I don't know. Fucking Porky Pig does a rap. Yeah. Like, I mean, who else was going to do the rap, though? I mean, honestly, any of them. I'm surprised that Grandma didn't do a rap. She did The Matrix twice. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:35 But I think they were probably like, we can't give Granny all the cool stuff. Also, what- Yeah, because then we'd have to give a pay bump to the woman voicing granny. Well, speaking of, here's some trivia. I was saving it for later. This is the first Looney Tunes full-length theatrical film not to have June 4A voicing Granny following her death four years prior.
Starting point is 00:22:52 That's a fun piece of trivia. It's fun. I wish you'd saved it for later, honestly. Me too, but it's a beautiful homage to that voice actor by having her do The Matrix twice, because she beats the clock man. Wow. So then the Looney Tunes, of course,
Starting point is 00:23:05 come out at half time and LeBron, because he's been making them play LeBron basketball, but he's not letting them be themselves and he realizes that bad dad or whatever. Okay, I mean, that works in the day. this instance. What's he going to do is you're going to go back to real life and then he's going to tell his teammates on whatever team he plays for now, just be yourselves. Just be yourselves. Just do your own hobbies on the court. It's fine, actually.
Starting point is 00:23:27 So like, why does it cut to the monsters when LeBron starts winning and they're like, meh, you're lunaticunes now. You're going to be deleted. That's archival footage, by the way. Footage animation. They didn't animate anything new for that. So you can do it. You can't just grab whatever. They're going to erase you, you fucking dumbasses. So the sun changes to of course because he's like, actually, I like my dad. And Don Chittal gets big, big Don. And then if you use a glitch, you can win the game, but then you get deleted from the 3000 Warner Server version whatever.
Starting point is 00:23:59 Yeah. Yeah, so that's, that's, and Bugs Bunny dies. Unless that's set up. At least that's set up earlier in the game. I don't care. Like, whatever, it gets set up. But also, it doesn't even matter because it doesn't happen. They should have actually killed Bugs Bunny.
Starting point is 00:24:09 And I mean, like, this is the last time we saw him. I would have respected this. They should have visited his grave, like the end of Avengers end game. Exactly. I would have respected it more if they had about a 20-minute funeral sequence, and it's not funny. It's just, you know, it's just a sad state of affairs. But so, like, you know, they win and whatever and all the guys, the spider,
Starting point is 00:24:28 other team, and they all, whatever, I don't know, they disappear or die. We're going to goon somewhere else. Yeah. We lost. Posterized. He gets posterized. I told you to remember that. It was important.
Starting point is 00:24:37 So then Bugs Bunny at the end, he's just in the real world. He's like, I'm a cartoon. Cool. Yeah. Take a number and get in line. All the cartoons are out here. You see Luny Chin's back in action? Same continuity we think.
Starting point is 00:24:49 So Terrence Nance, who first worked on this as the director, he posted this at Terrencenance.com slash space jam slash H-CML in relation to this movie. Okay. Just a broken image link or whatever? Oh, it works. Oh, yeah, great. Still there.
Starting point is 00:25:02 Michael Al asked me if I remembered the Lone Ranger and Tonto. I said, yeah. He said, remember how Tonto had all the knowledge? He knew how to navigate the land, how to find water, track people down. He is the genius marksman. We've seen the movie, Johnny Depp. Absolutely. Yeah. I said, yeah. He said the lone ranger was clueless. He totally relied on Tonto and he could never survive without him. Yet Tonto, with all his gifts and all his culture was the servant. Then he said, don't be Tonto. So that's all he said in relation to this movie, which makes me think he came on board. And they said, put on this poncho in this feather headdress. And he said, what? And they said, you're Tonto. You're directing this movie and your Tonto also.
Starting point is 00:25:40 I think what he's saying is that, like, he came on board and he had ideas. And they're. They said, no, no, no, no. We're the Lone Ranger. We already storyboarded this. All we need you to do is get a good voice performance out of LeBron James. And he went, I'm no Tonto. And I won't. So director Joe Pikeda, who directed the first Space Jam,
Starting point is 00:25:59 said it took him five attempts to watch this film all the way through. It's interesting because it's the same with back in action. The director of that was like Space Jabs, the worst movie ever made. You know, it's just interesting that the way these things play out. He said that LeBron James was not a big enough celebrity to carry the film in the same way. Michael Jordan did. Disagree. Also, you can't get anybody else.
Starting point is 00:26:18 It has to be a sports star. It has to be Lebron Jackson. But it doesn't work. It can't be, I'm just a regular guy and I work at a regular job. Dennis Leary. Yeah. And now I'm in the Toon World.
Starting point is 00:26:29 It has to be. But I also agree from the perspective that, like, Michael Jordan, he was a different level of fame than Lebron is. I'm not talking skill. I know there's a whole thing about whatever, who's better. But I mean just like, Michael Jordan in the 90s, He was like the top five Most Famous People in the world
Starting point is 00:26:48 And LeBron James, I think Yeah, he's famous and well known And whatever But I don't... You're saying we should have got Michael Jackson Yes But we're also, we're not in that culture of like Oh, these are the five most famous people anymore Yeah, but I mean that's that's no one's fault really isn't
Starting point is 00:27:01 Like, like, what do you get Mr Beast? He wasn't even a thing yet, I don't think He probably picked up that Game Boy and said, This gives me an idea I'm gonna exploit labour And make terrible rubbery chocolate That's right The director went on to criticize the new film's soundtrack as insignificant
Starting point is 00:27:17 And he said Bugs Bunny looked like one of those fluffy dolls that you buy in an airport gift shop To bring to your kids when your business trip has taken too long Well, that sounds perfect For merchandise sale Yeah, that's right He refused to direct the sequel and saying it's ridiculous to make a different movie out of it I guess Sure
Starting point is 00:27:32 But yeah, like the culture we exist in now It's like you can't, there is no like one major stuff Taylor Swift? Yeah, Taylor Swift Maybe John Bon Jovi Maybe John Bon Jovi? Yeah, who would be? is famous enough for this. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Who's also, because you also have to have some skill that translates into her. Because what is it? You do Taylor Swift, but she has to have a big wedding. And all the Looney Tunes are there. That's right. And they're messing up her big wedding. That's right. And she has them killed. Her security kills the Looney Tunes. They prepared for this eventuality and they dip all the Looney Tunes and they die.
Starting point is 00:28:05 That would work. Yeah, I think so. Because you can't kill them in the server verse, apparently, or whatever. No. But you can melt them. Good. I don't know, I just think it's an outdated concept, really, just this whole thing. Well, they made it in the past, didn't they?
Starting point is 00:28:18 I forgot that, they did, yeah. So don't even worry about it. I'm not worried about it. Unless they release another one today, don't even worry about it. Oh, you mean it was even a dated concept then in 2021? Yeah, exactly. Anyway, it's not for space trivia, a new trivia, trivia section of the show. Ooh!
Starting point is 00:28:34 Several people were considered for the role of LG Rhythm. Jack Nicholson, apparently, Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Hart, and Keith David said, said, No, Eddie Murphy wasn't available. And Michael B. Jordan was offered the part but said, I will cameo instead. And then I'll direct Creed 3. Jack Nicholson. Yeah, I don't believe that.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Why would it be Jack Nicholson? Because he was Wolf. Oh, yeah. That movie where maybe he was a werewolf. And maybe he turns into a werewolf, but maybe he just acts like a werewolf, but nobody's ever seen that movie, so we'll never know, yeah. Because he was the Joker?
Starting point is 00:29:07 I guess. Would he have been The Joker? No, he would have been Algae Rhythm in the Surve. The other verse. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Pepe Lepew was supposed to have a cameo in the Casablanca world where he tries to use these sexy pickup lines and then gets violently rebuffed.
Starting point is 00:29:23 However, the scene was dropped when Malcolm D. Lee took over and allegedly it was because they didn't want Pepey Lapeu to promote sexual harassment. But the droods are here. The droods are. Yeah, from a clockwork orange. The droogs are there. I don't know if you know this, but Al-G rhythm is a play on the word. algorithm. In what way?
Starting point is 00:29:43 I don't know. I'm just reading the trivia. I don't have to explain it. No, somebody else can work it out. Tell us in the comments. So this cost $150 million, but it made $163.7. Because I don't know if you remember, this is the year that Warner Brothers decided to co-release their movies on streaming at the same time in cinemas.
Starting point is 00:30:01 The same time, which caused Mr. for Christopher Nolan to no longer work with them. That's right. Therefore, you know, preventing Space Jam 3, from coming out because he was going to direct that. Jam, Jam. He was going to direct Jam, Jam, Jam. That's right. Jam, Regrats and Memories, it was going to be called.
Starting point is 00:30:20 This is all about that. You certainly is. Leonardo DiCaprio was going to come back to play a jar of jam. He could do it. Yeah, I agree. Yeah. Anyway, I don't like this. I think it's, yeah, it is more coherent, but it's too long.
Starting point is 00:30:33 And again, it's not that funny. And I hate all the IP and the basketball and this sucks. The game sucks. in this. I think the game in the first one is more interesting and it's got more Looney Tunes fun action. And this is like, what if the granny did The Matrix and she lived in the Matrix earlier in the movie? Well, we know. She's killing cops in the Matrix.
Starting point is 00:30:53 That's right. All right. Also, like, they just, the tunes in those worlds, are they just on a loop replaying all the scenes from those movies and TV shows just again and again? Do they like that or are they in hell? Also. Do they get there and they're like, I regret this? Yeah. Well, yeah, also, is that the, actual granny or is the real granny
Starting point is 00:31:12 on the Nebuchadnezzar who's dialed into the Matrix and they got her Matrix Avatar? Or is Granny in the real world? Because the tunes are in the real world and these guys are like simulacrum and they're in hell. Yeah, but can you exist on these
Starting point is 00:31:29 two planes of existence? Makes you think, doesn't it? Yeah. Which is why Nolan was so interested. But then Warner Brothers did that thing and then it's like, well, no to Jam Jam. I'm not as interested in any. Jam jams off the table, he said, and then he swished his scarf and he left.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Did the jam fall off the table? Yes. Okay, good. Anyways, we did it. What do you mean? We looked at two... We didn't do anything. We looked at two bad movies and one good movie.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Sure, okay. Don't you think we did that? I mean, we did do that. Yeah. Which is a bad strike rate, I think. Yes, it is. Yeah. I've only got a few more movies left in my life before I die, James.
Starting point is 00:32:06 Think about that. We only have so many weeks left. I'd rather watch three good movies, but he didn't. I watched one new movie Luny Tunes back in action. I'd never seen that before, but it was bad.
Starting point is 00:32:16 Then I had to watch a movie that I didn't like the first time, Space Jam 2. I had to watch it again. What a waste of one of the remaining weeks of my life. I hate this.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Well, you know what you gotta love? What's that? The hint towards next week. What is it? How do you feel about doing six Resident Evil movies in a row? I don't mind that. All right.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Yeah. I mean, I say that now. Sure. What happens week three or four, you know, I'll be... We don't know. No. We've never done six of them.
Starting point is 00:32:40 a row. And we might give up? We might, yeah. Yeah. We got a backup? No. Okay. So it'll be two or three weeks of this and then maybe just radio silence for a while.
Starting point is 00:32:51 Yeah, exactly. You can see that early at big sandwich.com, Patreon.com slash Mr. Sunday movies. I'll sign up to be a YouTube member. You can do it. There's all sorts of bonus, other stuff going on there. You can do it. What if he was there? What if that guy was in the crowd?
Starting point is 00:33:03 Yeah. But it wasn't played by him and was played by a different guy. Yeah, sure. Okay. Incredible. We also have a podcast that's called The Weekly Planet, don't we? Absolutely. Go back and listen to our Space Jammer and New Legacy Review.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Or our upcoming Coyote versus Acme movie review. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That should be good, I hope. God, I just, yeah. I mean, after these. I know people say it's good. And I hope it is, but like...
Starting point is 00:33:26 It better be, is what I'm saying. It better be. Yeah. Because we were like, how dare they? Yeah. How dare they take this piece of art and... Rude. And lock it away for no one to see.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Yeah. And what if we're like, no, they made a good call? Yeah, whatever. Yeah, whatever. Yeah, whatever. Thank you so much to Ben for the edit. You know he hated this. Thank you, Ben.
Starting point is 00:33:44 He hated it. Maybe you like the Casablanca stuff. He likes old movies and that. Sure. Yeah, but I know he was mad about the Pepe LePue thing. Ah. All right, thanks everyone. Grabbed out, Jamie, guys.
Starting point is 00:33:54 We'll see next week.
