Hey there, I'm Alameen Abdelmahmoud. I am the host of Komotion. You know when there's that thing
that's like all over your social feeds or maybe a new movie or a show on Netflix that everyone is
talking about or maybe your favorite artist just dropped a new song or a new album. These are the
moments when I love to gather the smartest, funniest people together. We get them in the
group chat and then we dig into the culture that is all around us. And commotion does this every single day.

From CBC News, the world this hour.
I'm Neil Herland.
Mark Carney appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night.
The former Bank of Canada governor played coy when asked if he plans to run for the Liberal Party of
Canada leadership. Have you offered yourself as as leader? I just started
thinking about it. A source close to Carney says he plans to launch his bid
this Thursday but last night he appeared to already be campaigning.
A wild hypothetical. Let's say the candidate wasn't part of the government. Let's say the
candidate did have a lot of economic experience. Let's say the candidate did deal with crises.
Let's say the candidate had a plan to deal with the challenges in the here and now.
You sneaky! You're running as an outsider. I am an outsider.
The Daily Show airs on the Slice Network in Canada. Meantime, Chris Shafreland
will announce her bid for the liberal leadership within the next week.
Sources confirmed to Radio Canada that the former finance minister will declare
her intentions before Donald Trump's inauguration next Monday. Federal Energy
Minister Jonathan
Wilkinson will spend the next two days in Washington trying to advocate for
Canada ahead of Donald Trump's threat to impose 25% tariffs on all Canadian goods
and commodities entering the US. Wilkinson will meet with American
Senators and members of Congress. Residents of Los Angeles are bracing
for what could happen today. Strong winds are returning and that could fuel more
wildfires. Steve Futterman reports. The winds in and around Los Angeles began to
pick up on Monday. Now officials say the real challenge is about to begin. In the
next 24 a much stronger
wind in the next 24 hours,
much stronger winds.
Severe fire weather
conditions will continue
through Wednesday.
Officials are trying to
reassure people.
L.A. County Fire Chief
Anthony Maroney.
Please be assured that all
fire departments will be
prepared. But after last week when fires ravaged parts of L.A. destroying thousands of structures, you can understand why some people are a bit nervous. We stand to lose everything if the winds blow the
fire back. While this resident is worried she will be forced to leave her home. I
actually don't know where I would go to be honest like I don't have family here.
I have friends but they're all affected. By Wednesday night the winds could begin
to calm down again and there is even a slight possibility that by the end of the week there
could be some rain.
Steve Futterman for CBC News, Los Angeles.
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump says Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas are
close to reaching a ceasefire deal to end the war in Gaza.
There's been a handshake and they're getting it finished and maybe by the end of the week. Trump made the comment during an interview last night on the American network Newsmax.
A new CBC investigation reveals what could be Canada's most notorious job recruiter.
An Ontario businesswoman was caught charging illegal fees to foreign workers more than 30 times.
Valérie Woulette has more.
Everything's a lie.
John Kiesel wishes he'd never met job recruiter Janet Mosquito.
In 2023, the then international student quit his program
and paid her almost $3,000 to secure a work permit.
She found him a job but never came through with the permit.
Then stopped replying. His study permit expired and he can't work
legally. He's now living in a homeless shelter.
I can't even support my son.
CBC found Mosquito was caught by Ontario's Ministry of Labour for charging illegal recruitment
fees to foreign workers 35 other times. Each time she paid back the fee and went right
back to business. Under provincial law, repeat offenders like Mosquito can be charged and face jail time.
CBC asked the Ministry of Labour why they haven't pursued that option.
They did not answer, but said they will soon introduce tougher measures, including naming
and shaming dishonest immigration representatives.
CBC tried contacting Janet Mosquito several times, but they hung up.
