My name is Cory McMullen and I run a small family-owned appliance business in Smith Falls, Ontario.
Since we joined TikTok, we've almost doubled our retail sales.
Having the support of TikTok Canada has been crucial.
Knowing the family business is secure for the next generation is incredibly fulfilling.
From CBC News, the world is our. I'm Tom Harington.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was calling out Alberta's premier for refusing to join Team Canada. Danielle Smith wouldn't sign
a joint statement after yesterday's First Minister's meeting. They were
discussing ways to respond to Donald Trump's threat of tariffs on Canadian
goods. She said Ottawa had no right to be floating the idea that oil and gas
exports to the US could be taxed or cut off.
Yes, premiers should be advocating for their own industries, their own communities, but
they should also put their country first as every single premier except Danielle Smith
did.
Trudeau also pointed out his government did help Alberta get its oil and gas to new markets
when it bought and finished the Trans Mountain pipeline to Vancouver. Several political contenders are about to launch their bids for the leadership
of the Liberal Party. Former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney is making the announcement
in Edmonton this hour. This weekend, similar announcements are expected from former Finance
Minister Christia Freeland, as well as the government's House Leader, Carina Gould.
And then there's the jobs tax.
Conservative leader Pierre Pauliab is fine-tuning his attacks on the Liberals.
Several candidates for the party leadership say they would do away with the consumer tax on carbon.
So the opposition leader is adding a new slogan.
Now 66% of investment gains will be taxed.
This tax will cost 400,000 jobs. I will axe
the liberal jobs tax.
Paulier was repeatedly asked if he would be willing to put export tariffs on oil and gas
heading to the U.S. It's been floated as retaliation on the possible tariffs on Canadian goods.
He did not answer the question.
Israel's approval of the Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal is on hold. Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu says Hamas is not honouring certain elements of the deal. His National Security
Minister Itamar Ben-Ghivir is threatening to quit if the agreement goes ahead. Should
that happen, Netanyahu's fragile coalition might collapse. Outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken remains confident the ceasefire
will come into force as planned.
We've worked to broker a deal that would bring hostages home, that would stop the fighting,
that would surge humanitarian aid to people who so desperately need it,
that would create the space
to conclude a permanent ceasefire.
We now have that,
and we expect implementation of the agreement to begin on Sunday.
Hamas officials deny Israel's claims and says the group was fully committed to the agreement.
One of India's biggest Bollywood celebrities has survived a violent stabbing attack.
Saif Ali Khan was injured in a fight with an intruder who broke into his home overnight.
Salima Shivji has the details.
He's out of danger now and recovering in an ICU bed in hospital.
But Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan had a big scare after he was stabbed repeatedly by an
intruder who managed to get into his home in a ritzy area of Mumbai at around two in
the morning.
Saif Ali Khan is from a very prominent celebrity family.
He and his wife's superstar, Kareena Kapoor, are considered Bollywood royalty. The knife used
to attack him was lodged in Khan's spine and he needed to undergo surgery to have it
removed and to repair leaking spinal fluid. The actor had six stab wounds with two deep
ones on his neck and arm. The doctor treating him confirmed.
Mumbai police are investigating
and believe this was a botched burglary attempt. Police reportedly have some 20 teams looking
into the incident trying to track down the suspect. Salima Shivji, CBC News, Delhi.
Celebrated baseball commentator and personality Bob Uecker has died. That's Euker from the 1989 baseball comedy major league. Euker
was a big baseball player for just six seasons in the 1960s but he went on to a
successful 50-year career as a broadcaster and commercial pitchman
earning the nickname Mr. Baseball. In 2003, he was honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame for his lifetime contributions to
the game.
Bob Euker was 90 years old.
And that is your World This Hour.
