Every language is a note
in the symphony of our heritage.
Together, they create a harmony

From the CBC News the world this hour, I'm Julianne Hazelwood.
We begin in Gaza.
After months of bloodshed and negotiations,
a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is now in effect.
That's the sound of dozens of armed Hamas fighters in uniform and wearing black face
coverings chanting as they pull three women out of a minivan and push them into another
vehicle.
It's the much anticipated transfer of the first three Israeli hostages to the custody
of the Red Cross.
Israel has also started releasing 90 Palestinian prisoners as part of the ceasefire deal. Now to Hostages
Square in Tel Aviv. Supporters of the hostages cheer as images of the transfer are played
on television. The hostages were taken to a hospital in the outskirts of Tel Aviv,
where they were reunited with their families
and given medical checks.
Professor Atai Pissach speaks for the hospital.
I'm happy to report that they are in stable condition.
They are reunited with their families,
and we will continue to monitor their clinical condition.
This will take a few more days
until we complete all
the examinations that are needed and treat whatever we find.
Photographs have been released of the three women with their families, but
officials are asking the media to respect their privacy going forward.
There are now three frontrunners in the race for the Liberal Party leadership.
Former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney kicked off his campaign on Thursday, and today
government House Leader Karina Gould and former Deputy Prime Minister Krista Freeland launched
their campaigns.
Janice McGregor has more.
Krista Freeland struggled to launch into her speech, but her packed room of supporters
shouted down the pro-Palestinian protesters
trying to disrupt her.
If I am prime minister, Canada will never back down.
She said she knows Donald Trump doesn't like her and she's ready to lead in the coming
trade war.
If Pierre Poliev is elected, he will be on the first flight to Mar-a-Lago to kiss the ring.
Earlier at her launch event in Burlington, Ontario, Karina Gould called for a pause in the consumer
carbon tax. And I'm not too proud to change policies if they're not working for Canada.
All three leadership frontrunners now say that they would not continue Justin Trudeau's climate policy.
Janice McGregor, CBC News, Ottawa.
A federal court judge has agreed to expedite a hearing of a legal challenge to Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau's decision to prorogue Parliament.
Two Nova Scotia residents have been given the go-ahead to seek an order setting aside
Trudeau's decision.
They argue that prorogationation that is, prevents Parliament from dealing
with pressing issues, including President Trump's threat to impose tariffs on Canadian
goods. The federal government says it's ready to introduce retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods
as early as Monday, should incoming U.S. President Donald Trump act on his threat. Finance Minister
Dominic LeBlanc laid out some of the details today.
The initial plan would be to have a very short consultation period on a first round of counter
measures if you will, tariffs in response to what they might do, but then it leaves us the
opportunity to escalate as well, to take a bigger bite, to look at other sectors. These would be
temporary measures to get us, we hope, out from the other side of these tariffs.
Trump has threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian goods.
It's a move that experts and lawmakers say would be devastating for the Canadian economy.
Former Montreal Canadiens forward Marcel Bonin has died.
Through his career, he won four Stanley Cups, three with the Canadiens.
Bonin started out playing with the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins before joining
the Canadians in 1957.
Bonin was 93 years old.
