Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney is racking up more key
endorsements today. Defense Minister Bill Blair and Transport Minister Anita Anand are throwing
their support behind the former banker. And as Olivia Stefanovic reports, all that momentum
has made him a target of the conservatives as well.
This is a guy who might be prime minister in six weeks and he has yet to announce a
single policy.
Conservative deputy leader Melissa Lansman tried to get ahead of Mark Carney's latest
campaign stop in Toronto, but it didn't go exactly as planned.
We want to know what Mark Carney promised Mr. Erskine Smith for his endorsement today. Local Liberal MP and newly appointed Housing Minister Nathaniel Erskine Smith interrupted
Lantzman just before endorsing Carney as the next Liberal leader.
Canadians are going to know exactly what we intend to do.
Carney says he intends to release policy details by the end of next week.

In Israel.
In Israel!
Four families got to hug their daughters for the first time in 15 months today.
Hamas freed the female soldiers in a hostage-for-prisoners exchange,
part of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Doctors say all are in stable condition.
Hours later, in the occupied West Bank, crowds of people cheered as buses arrived with some
of the 200 released Palestinian detainees on board. But it still wasn't all smooth sailing.
Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari. Hamas failed to meet its obligations to first release Israeli female civilian hostages as
part of the agreement.
We are determined to return to the return of Arbel Yehud, an Israeli citizen kidnapped
from near Oz.
Israel says that in response it will not keep its promise to allow Gazans to return
to their homes in the northern part of the territory.
Mediators are trying to resolve the dispute.
In Germany.
Around 20,000 people took to the streets of Cologne today to protest against far-right
politics and the far-right Alternative for Germany party.
This comes on the same day that the AFD kicked off its election campaign, and days after
NAFKAN killed two people in a knife attack, reigniting the debate on migration in Germany.
Police placed the AFD in second place, or polls rather, place the AFD in second place.
Behind the right of center, Christian Democratic Union. Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his governing
social democrats are third, with the Green Party in fourth place. A Pakistani court is sentenced
four people to death for blasphemy. The law says anyone found guilty of insulting Islam or its
religious figures can be sentenced to death.
Well, if it's not one thing, it's another.
People in Los Angeles have been worrying about drought conditions and fierce winds stirring
up wildfires.
Now there's rain in the forecast, which raises different fears for residents.
Steve Futterman explains.
They could have used it weeks ago.
Instead, the rain is coming now.
Here in Alta Dena, special locations have been set up for people who need sandbags.
This man is emotionally exhausted.
Every day there's new challenges.
Everybody trying to make it true.
We were told there is rain coming.
We have to get some sandbags going.
Michael Bustamante was lucky when it came to the fires.
Now he is preparing for a different threat.
All of the homes around me were burned and Altadena is at an angle and so we're very
concerned about the debris flow and the runoff from the rains.
It's all about location and topography.
Altadena is just below the San Gabriel Mountains.
Landslides have historically been a problem here and with no vegetation left on the burned
mountains it's especially worrisome now.
