Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey there, I'm Kathleen Goltar and I have a confession to make. I am a true crime fanatic. I devour books and films and, most of all, true crime podcasts. But sometimes, I just want to know more. I want to go deeper. And that's where my podcast, Crime Story, comes in. Every week, I go behind the scenes with the creators of the best in true crime. I chat with the host of Scamanda, Teacher's Pet, Bone Valley, the list goes on. For the insider scoop, find Crime Story in your podcast app. From CBC News, the world this hour.

In return, Israel is refusing to allow Gazans to move back to their homes in the north of the territory.
Starting point is 00:01:28 Our victory is that we are going home even if our homes are destroyed, says Suheir Bakr, going to look for her son's body near their house. Mediators scrambled to resolve the issue in Cairo while aid organizations rushed to put up enough tents and deliver enough food for this delayed homecoming. Sasha Petruszek, CBC News, Jerusalem. The deputy leader of the federal conservatives held a news conference today outside a Toronto bar where MP Nate Erskine Smith was set to announce his support for Mark Carney. Michelle Lansman was criticizing the
Starting point is 00:02:09 apparent Liberal frontrunner when Erskine Smith arrived. I'm in Canada. Welcome to the beach with East Coast. Thank you. I want to know what you promised Mark Carney. I want to buy you a drink. Perfect. We want to know what Mark Carney promised Mr. Erskine Smith for his endorsement today. So I hope that you asked him these questions. I hope that you get the answers today. I'm telling you, he promised me nothing. Nate Erskine Smith joins Bill Blair and Anita Anon in endorsing Carney for the liberal leadership. He has the support of more than a dozen cabinet ministers compared to Krzysztof Freeland, who's been endorsed by five.
Starting point is 00:02:50 It's been nearly three years since Canada granted temporary visas to Ukrainians fleeing the war, but those permits expire at the end of March, and many are worried about what happens next. Natalia Bodnarczuk is a mother of four who fled the war and settled in Edmonton. My daughter, she's turning five and without these documents I need to apply for the visitor permit for her, but I cannot do that without passport. It's honestly causing some stress in our daily life. It had been over four decades since a Canadian male skier had conquered kids' buil, and that was until today when Toronto native Jack Crawford crossed the finish line with the fastest time. Ed Kleiman reports. Jack Crawford had won Olympic bronze and World Championship gold, but the 27-year-old from Toronto went without a World Cup
Starting point is 00:04:05 win in his first four years on the circuit. On Saturday he did it in style capturing the most prestigious of all World Cup races the Hanenkaum downhill in Kitzbuehl, Austria. He's the first Canadian to win there since Todd Brooker in 1983. I didn't really expect it today I knew that I was in a position to ski really well and put forth a run that could contend, but to actually see green when I crossed the finish line was something else. Crawford shared the podium with teammate Cam Alexander from North Vancouver who took the bronze. It's the first time in 13 years that two Canadians have won medals in the same World Cup downhill race. Ed Kleiman for CBC News, Toronto.
