I'm Mike Miles, Liberal leadership candidate.
Mark Carney is racking up more key endorsements.
Defense Minister Bill Blair and Transport Minister Anita Anand
are throwing their support behind the former banker.
And as Olivia Stefanovich reports, all that momentum has made him a target of the conservatives
as well.
This is a guy who might be prime minister in six weeks and he has yet to announce a
single policy.
Conservative deputy leader Melissa Lansman tried to get ahead of Mark Carney's latest
campaign stop in Toronto,
but it didn't go exactly as planned.
We want to know what Mark Carney, what Mark Carney promised Mr. Erskine Smith for his endorsement
today.
Local Liberal MP and newly appointed Housing Minister Nathaniel Erskine Smith interrupted
Lantzman just before endorsing Carney as the next liberal leader.
Canadians are going to know exactly what we intend to do.
Carney says he intends to release policy details by the end of next week.
Olivia Stefanovic, CBC News, Ottawa.
The UN Security Council will meet Sunday over violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo
as fighting between Congolese forces and Rwanda-backed rebels intensifies near the Rwandan border. Anna Cunningham tells us
there are fears this could turn into a major regional conflict. Congolese
soldiers in armored vehicles move towards the Sake hills, the last point on
the road to Goma near the DRC's eastern border with Rwanda. Riding alongside on the way to
the front lines are pro-government militant fighters known as the Patriots.
DLC's president Felix Chisekedi ordering his army to track down the enemy attacking us.
They are the Tutsi-led M23 rebels, one of about 100 rebel groups who broke away from the Congolese army
over a decade ago.
They're now closing in on Goma, the regional capital.
Some 15,000 UN peacekeepers are on the ground, but they too are under attack.
The UN warning this could rapidly spill into a regional war.
Anna Cunningham, CBC News, London.
It's been nearly three years since Canada granted temporary visas to Ukrainians fleeing
the war. But those permits expire at the end of March, and many are worried about what
happens next. Natalia Bartnerchuk is a mother of four who fled the war and settled in Edmonton.
My daughter, she's turning five, and without without these documents I need to apply for the visitor
permit for her but I cannot do that without passport.
It's honestly causing some stress in our daily life.
Immigration refugees and citizenship Canada says individuals who arrived under the program
can still apply for an extension of their open worker study permits until March 31st. A Canadian sailor has died after his inflatable
boat capsized in Halifax waters. According to the Royal Canadian Navy, it
happened Friday in the Bedford Basin after the victim and another sailor in
the boat fell into the water. The pair were involved in what the Navy calls
small boat operations. The second sailor was treated and released from hospital.
It had been over four decades since a Canadian male skier had conquered Kits Buell.
That was until Saturday when Toronto native Jack Crawford
beat the pack downhill at climbing with Moore.
Jack Crawford had won Olympic bronze and World Championship gold,
but the 27-year-old from Toronto went
without a World Cup win in his first four years on the circuit. On Saturday, he did it in style,
capturing the most prestigious of all World Cup races, the Hanenkaum downhill in Kitzbueel,
Austria. He's the first Canadian to win there since Todd Brooker in 1983.
I didn't really expect it today. I knew that I was in a position to ski really well and
put forth a run that could contend, but to actually see green when I crossed the finish
line was something else.
Crawford shared the podium with teammate Cam Alexander from North Vancouver, who took
the bronze. It's the first time in 13 years that two Canadians have won medals in the
same World Cup downhill race.
