What does a mummified Egyptian child, the Parthenon marbles of Greece and an Irish
giant all have in common? They are all stuff the British stole. Maybe. Join me,
Mark Fennell, as I travel around the globe uncovering the shocking stories
of how some, let's call them ill-gotten, artifacts made it to faraway institutions.
Spoiler, it was probably the British. Don't miss a brand new season of Stuff the British Style.
Watch it free on CBC Gem.
From CBC News, the world is sour.
I'm Neil Kumar.
In India, at least 12 people are feared dead
after a stampede left dozens of people injured. Give me courage. I have to clear my hunger for one week.
I have to clear my hunger for one week.
Hurry up.
The incident took place when tens of thousands of Hindus
rushed to take a holy bath in the river at the massive Kammela festival.
Crowd crushes are frequent in India, often leading to a loss of lives.
Rescue efforts are now underway to help the injured in the northern city of Pragrac.
Back here at home, a hitman who pleaded guilty to killing a former Air India bombing suspect has received a life sentence.
The family wants to know who hired him, but he's refused to give up any names.
Michelle Gussoub reports.
Tanner Fox will serve a life sentence with no chance of parole for 20 years.
Fox and his accomplice Jose Lopez shot and killed Malik as he sat in his Tesla
in Surrey in July 2022. Malik is known in the community. Back in 2005, he was
acquitted of charges related to the Air India bombing. His son Jaspreet Singh Malik said the sentencing brings only some relief.
The only question that remains now is who hired Mr. Fox and Mr. Lopez.
Standing outside of court, he pleaded once again for the hitmen to reveal the names of who ordered the job.
I'm asking both Mr. Fox and Mr. Lopez to do the right thing.
Tell the RCMP who hired you.
Let those people be brought to justice.
Fox addressed the court only briefly, telling the family he was sorry.
Lopez is expected to be sentenced in February.

There are reports Ottawa is preparing a pandemic-style tariff relief program.
It would help workers and businesses affected by Donald Trump's 25% tariffs on Canadian imports.
Most of the program's measures would have to be
passed by parliament.
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh says he wants to see the plan.
Nothing of that sort has happened now.
Nothing of that sort is on the table.
I've not been reached in any way.
I've maintained my position that I'll be voting
against the government at the earliest opportunity.
If the Liberals are serious though about something, a plan that
should be put in place to support workers, call the opposition leaders
together if they're serious about it. Discuss that plan with us the way we did
during the pandemic.
Singh says if there's tariff relief money, it should go to workers rather
than company executives and shareholders. It's the first full day of campaigning
ahead of Ontario's snap election next month. Progressive Conservative leader Doug Ford insists he needs a stronger mandate to face the threat of US tariffs.
But as Thomas Degler reports, there may be other factors playing into this election gamble.
Ontario Progressive Conservative leader Doug Ford is hitting the campaign trail
after weeks spent pitching himself as a champion for Canada in the face
of proposed U.S. tariffs.
I can't stress enough how devastating these tariffs will be.
But his opponents like Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie say by triggering this early vote,
Ford is only looking out for himself.
There is not one other Premier that is suggesting that this is the right time to go to an election. Observers suspect Ford is aiming to secure a third straight majority government before
Pierre Poliev's conservatives potentially sweep to power in Ottawa.
The Ontario PC leader is also facing pressure from controversies, including a lakeside mega
spa project, the hundreds of millions spent on rushing booze into corner stores,
and the Green Belt land development scandal under police investigation. The Ontario's voting days
scheduled for February 27th. Thomas Dagg, CBC News, Toronto. The leader of the BC Greens is stepping
down, Sonia Fursternow, has led the party since 2020, and she was an MLA from 2017 until last year.
She failed to be re-elected in the October Provincial election.
And Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week
as the first foreign leader to visit in President Trump's second term.
Trump sent the invitation to Netanyahu for Tuesday, February 4th,
as the US puts pressure on Israel and Hamas to continue a ceasefire
that has paused a devastating 15-month war in Gaza.
And that is your World is Sour.
