When a body is discovered 10 miles out to sea, it sparks a mind-blowing police investigation.
There's a man living in this address in the name of a deceased.
He's one of the most wanted men in the world.
This isn't really happening.
Officers are finding large sums of money.
It's a tale of murder, skullduggery and international intrigue.
So who really is he?
I'm Sam Mullins and this is Sea of Lies from CBC's Uncovered, available now.
From CBC News, the world is our, I'm Karen Hauerloch.
The White House says US President Donald Trump will impose 25 percent tariffs on Canada and
Mexico tomorrow.
Trump's press secretary confirmed it today,
saying the president is following through on his threat
to go after his two biggest North American trading partners.
Tom Perry reports.
Even before the news broke out of Washington,
confirmation Donald Trump will impose tariffs
against Canada and Mexico tomorrow,
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was vowing Canada would retaliate.
It's not what we want, but if he moves forward, we will also act.
That prompted this response from White House spokesperson Caroline Levin.
The president is intent on doing this, and I think Justin Trudeau would be wise to talk
to President Trump directly before pushing outlandish comments like that to the media.
The White House claims these moves, along with a 10 percent tariff against China, are
payback for Canada and Mexico allowing illegal migrants and Chinese fentanyl into the U.S.
Federal cabinet ministers have been meeting with U.S. officials trying to persuade them
tariffs are a bad idea, but it appears, for now at least, Donald Trump has made up his
mind.
Tom Perry, CBC News, Ottawa.
Fears of a tariff war with the U.S. are having an effect on the Canadian dollar.
It dipped below 69 cents U.S. today.
The loonie is at its lowest level against the American dollar since the early days of the pandemic.
Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney says if he's elected to head the party,
he will scrap the government's consumer carbon price scheme, also known as the carbon tax.
It has had some impact in terms of reducing our emissions, making things more efficient,
but it has become very divisive. The perceptions of the negative impacts of the carbon tax
on households without fully recognizing the positive impacts of the rebate. It's been fed by
misinformation and lies, quite frankly, by the leader of the opposition. But okay, we are in
this situation. Carney says he would continue carbon pricing for large companies and come up
with financial incentives for individuals to go green. Salvage crews are arriving at the site of
that fatal plane crash this week on the Potomac River near Washington, DC. They'll help locate and recover wreckage from the
passenger jet and helicopter that collided. There were no survivors. Caroline Bargout
has the latest.
CAROLINE – The chief of DC Fire and EMS says search teams have recovered remains from
41 people who died in the crash. They are still searching for others believed to be in the Potomac River. 67 people died after a military Blackhawk
helicopter on a night training exercise crashed into American Airlines Flight 5342 Wednesday
night. Chief John Donnelly says crews are awaiting salvage equipment to recover parts
of the wreckage in hopes they will find more of the dead.
I believe that when we remove the aircraft that that will help us resolve this number.
If it doesn't, we will continue to search.
The Federal Aviation Administration is now restricting helicopter flights near Reagan
indefinitely and will only allow police and medical helicopters in the area.
The National Transportation Safety Board expects to have a preliminary report in 30 days but
says the full investigation will likely take a year.
Caroline Bargout, CBC News, Washington.
There are U.S. media reports that President Donald Trump will indeed put 25 percent tariffs
on Canadian and Mexican imports and 10 percent tariffs on Chinese goods.
Trump is quoted as saying there is nothing the three countries can do to forestall the tariffs and that they may increase over time. Grocery bills
are about to go up as a yearly industry-wide price freeze comes to an
end. Most Canadian grocers maintain a blackout on price increase requests from
many suppliers over the holiday period. Industry insiders say this practice has
helped stabilize prices during a time when consumers
are more price-sensitive.
Hamas has released the names of three Israeli male hostages set to be free tomorrow.
35-year-old Yarden Bevis, 54-year-old Ofer Kalduron, and 65-year-old Keith Siegel, whose
joint Israeli and American citizenship.
The three will be swapped for Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
And that is your World is Our for CBC News.
