Starting point is 00:00:34 From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Julianne Hazelwood. The White House says a decision on tariffs will be released today and sources say it could come this afternoon. As Rafi Bouchicanean tells us, the uncertainty is creating stress on both sides of the border. Canada is a strong country, stronger than Donald Trump thinks. He was Canada's foreign affairs minister under Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. I think we should get back and start doing what Canadians do well, which is to convene and bring together other countries to kind of constrain the Trump imperialism. Starting point is 00:01:53 Donald Trump's tariff plan looks like and what it'll do to the Canadian economy. Caroline Bargout has the latest from Washington. Yesterday, US President Donald Trump said the tariffs would be coming today and would be set at 25% for Canada and Mexico. But at this point we haven't seen any official details including whether any goods would be exempt. On Friday Trump said Canadian oil and gas will face 10% tariffs in a couple of weeks and said levies will be imposed on Canadian copper too but not till later. And that's not all. Eventually, we're going to put tariffs on chips.
Starting point is 00:02:28 We're going to put tariffs on oil and gas. That'll happen fairly soon. Think around the 18th of February. And we're going to put a lot of tariffs on steel. For weeks, U.S. oil and automotive companies have lobbied President Trump for exemptions, warning of higher prices and wide supply chain issues. Canadian government officials have also done their best to lobby against the tariffs, but it doesn't appear to have worked.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Caroline Bargout, CBC News, Washington. In the Middle East. The family of an Israeli hostage released by Hamas expresses joy. Three men were headed over to the International Red Cross and then to Israeli defense forces today. In return, Israel is expected to release more than 180 Palestinian detainees. This is the fourth exchange between Israel and Hamas as part of the ceasefire deal agreed to nearly two weeks ago.

She was fit to fly, cleared to go back home, and we were contracted by a third-party charitable organization to transport her back to Mexico. So the final destination was to Biti Juana International Airport. Another 19 people on the ground were injured.
