Starting point is 00:01:03 From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Julie-Anne Hazelwood. Amass and Israel have carried out another hostage-prisoner exchange today. More than 180 Palestinian prisoners and detainees were released from Israeli prisons. Several hours after three male Israeli hostages were sent back to Israel. Sasha Petrasek reports from Tel Aviv's Hostages Square. This is a square in the middle of Tel Aviv where families and friends of the hostages have gathered every week to watch on a big screen TV as hostages have been released. Today there was a lot of excitement and anticipation, but also worry once people saw what the hostages actually looked like.
Starting point is 00:01:43 This is what one of the observers had to say to me. Seeing them, they're so skinny. They look like the light came out of their eyes and it's very difficult. And in fact, there are 17 more in this first phase who are still being held in Gaza and they don't know what they are going to be looking like. We have been told that some of them are not alive
Starting point is 00:02:06 and it will be in fact a transfer of the remains. We're seeing negotiators for both sides in Doha again this weekend trying to get to a second phase which would see some 59 more hostages released. Sasha Petrosik, CBC News, Tel Aviv. The leaders of Europe's far-right political parties gathered in Madrid for a Make Europe Great Again rally and conference. Starting point is 00:03:08 Extreme far-right politicians on the continent hailed Donald Trump in Madrid. The event is hosted by a group called Patriots of Europe. Of the 720 members of the European Parliament, they hold 86 seats. Well-known far-right leaders, including France's Marine Le Pen, joined them. We're in front of a real battle. She says we're witnessing a true global shift. Some like Le Pen and Dutch politician Gerrit Bilders want their countries to leave the EU altogether. The old regimes are going to fall. Starting point is 00:03:54 It's Super Bowl weekend. The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will square off tomorrow night in New Orleans. And security is extremely tight, especially in the wake of the New Year's Day attack in the city that left 14 people dead and nearly 60 wounded. Steve Futterman reports. We have a big event coming and we are committed to having a safe environment for every individual that attends. U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and it's hard to miss the increased security. Just five weeks ago in the early hours of January 1st, as celebrations were still going on, terror struck the Big Easy.
Starting point is 00:04:32 A man in a pickup truck drove down Bourbon Street, still jammed with people, killing 14. Brittany Bustamante is a bartender who works on Bourbon Street. The wounds, she says says have not completely healed. Nobody's going to forget that. It's still like high alert and the city's not all the way the same yet, you know. There's still a lot of people scared. And this week with tens of thousands of people in town to watch football, many have also walked over to the makeshift memorial on Bourbon Street to pay respect to those who were killed.
