When a body is discovered 10 miles out to sea, it sparks a mind-blowing police investigation.
There's a man living in this address in the name of a deceased.
He's one of the most wanted men in the world.
This isn't really happening.
Officers are finding large sums of money.
It's a tale of murder, skullduggery and international intrigue.
So who really is he?
I'm Sam Mullins and this is Sea of Lies from CBC's Uncovered, available now.
From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Julianne Hazelwood.
The latest hostages for detainees' swap went relatively smoothly today.
Three Israelis were exchanged for hundreds of Palestinian detainees.
But a social media post from Donald Trump is casting doubt
about whether there will be any more releases.
Sasha Petrasek has the latest.
For days, it wasn't clear if Israeli hostages would be freed today.
But this morning, three men climbed onto a Gaza stage surrounded by armed uniformed militants.
Hamas backing down on a threat not to release any more hostages.
Hostage supporters watched in Tel Aviv.
It was very emotional.
It was very hard to see.
I'm afraid for the next one and the next one.
Indeed this afternoon, more doubts about whether there
would be a next release in a week's time,
with US President Donald Trump suggesting on social media
that Israel should take action since Hamas didn't release
all hostages as he had demanded.
A Hamas representative responded, hostages as he had demanded. A Hamas representative responded,
hostages will only be freed if Israel abides by the ceasefire agreement and timetable. Sasha Petrusik, CBC News, Jerusalem.
The Vatican says Pope Francis had a restful night in hospital.
The 88 year old was admitted yesterday suffering from a respiratory illness.
His medical team says tests showed some improvement, but he will will not leave the Angeles prayer at St. Peter's tomorrow.
A conservative party rally is expected to get underway this hour in Ottawa
marking the 60th anniversary of the red maple leaf flag. The party says it will
be a nonpartisan event but it comes days after the party released an attack ad
targeting the apparent frontrunner in the liberal leadership race.
Trump wants our jobs. We're going to take other countries jobs.
And Mark Carney is just the man to help him. For more than 18 months,
the party had a double-digit lead over the liberals in national polls,
but that has shifted recently. A Leger poll this week suggests a liberal party
led by Mark Carney would be in a dead heat
with the conservatives at 38%.
The city of Halifax will get 10 new firefighters
next year and possibly more.
Halifax City Council approved the measures
in its $98 million fire and emergency budget,
saying lessons were learned from the wildfire in 2023.
Councilor Nancy Hartling.
The Tantalum wildfires was $165 million in insurable damage.
The cost of being behind the eight ball can never be overstated.
I think that as a core service, we should be continually committed to doing the right
thing for the folks in Halifax and for Halifax
Regional Fire.
The wildfire forced more than 16,000 people to evacuate and damaged or destroyed about
150 homes.
Canada's problems with the U.S. move from the political stage to the hockey rink tonight.
Team Canada will take on the U.S. in the four nations
face-off and with emotions running high it's quite possible the crowd in
Montreal will boo the American anthem. Carla Desir has more. You've probably
seen videos of Canadians booing the Star-Spangled Banner before professional
sporting events. Opinions on the booing are mixed. We were at the game, I was indifferent about it.
I don't really care that much to be honest with it.
We're kind of used to it as Americans, I feel like not a lot of countries really like us.
As long as it doesn't go to a disrespectful level, I think it's fine.
I think the national anthem being booed is actually a disgrace.
This isn't the first time Canadians have expressed their displeasure during the national anthem.
In 2003, Canadians booed America's invasion of Iraq.
But this frustration might have a link to the adversarial nature of team sports.
Okay, so what if we got rid of the anthem altogether?
In 2020, the Daleks Mavericks quietly got rid of the anthem, and it took four months
before people even noticed.
Carla Dessier reporting from Montreal.
And that is your World This Hour.
For CBC News, I'm Julianne Hazelwood.
