Starting point is 00:00:00 When a body is discovered 10 miles out to sea, it sparks a mind-blowing police investigation. There's a man living in this address in the name of a deceased. He's one of the most wanted men in the world. This isn't really happening. Officers are finding large sums of money. It's a tale of murder, skullduggery and international intrigue. So who really is he? I'm Sam Mullins and this is Sea of Lies from CBC's Uncovered.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Available now. From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Stephanie Scanderis. There's been a plane crash at Canada's busiest airport. A Delta Airlines passenger jet has flipped over while landing at Toronto Pearson. Paramedics say 15 people are hurt, three of them including a child, seriously. The Transportation Safety Board is sending investigators. Thomas Daigle has more details.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Cell phone video taken from the tarmac shows the Bombardier CRJ plane on the ground upside down with damage visible on its rear underside. Several passengers are seen walking away on their own. Federal Transport Minister Anita Onin says all 80 passengers are accounted for. This was a Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis to Toronto Pearson Airport. The jet had flown from Cleveland to Minneapolis earlier in the day and was scheduled to return to Minneapolis in the evening, but clearly now that won't be possible. Air traffic control audio posted online described this as a crash landing. It's not clear what led to this, but pictures from the scene show snow on the ground with
Starting point is 00:01:38 people nearby appearing to take cover from heavy wind. Thomas Daigle, CBC News, Mississauga, Ontario. And much of the country is going to be cleaning up snow for weeks after back-to-back storms. Nova Scotia got hit with snow, ice pellets and freezing rain yesterday. Montreal broke a snowfall record with more than 70 centimeters of snow in four days. Residents there are being asked to stay home. And the City of Toronto says snow removal may take up to three weeks. Between 16 and 23 centimetres of snow fell across Toronto
Starting point is 00:02:11 over the weekend, in addition to 15 to 20 centimetres that fell last week. In Washington, protesters are angry about US President Donald Trump's campaign to reduce the federal government. Where is Congress? Do your job! The demonstrators also want an investigation into Elon Musk, who has been cutting programs, jobs and spending without answering to Congress. Now he's trying to get access to internal revenue service files, including confidential information about taxpayers. This is one of several protests being held across the U.S. on President's Day. European leaders were in Paris earlier for an emergency meeting on Ukraine. The EU is pushing back on the U.S. plan to develop a peace deal without involving them
Starting point is 00:03:02 or Ukraine. Stephen Hoff has more from Vienna. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says the transatlantic relationship with the United States is in a new stage and that Europe has to increase its defense spend. Speaking after meeting with other European Union leaders in Paris, Tusk says that new spending on defense will not count towards the EU's excessive debt calculations, making it easier for countries to invest. The Danish Prime Minister also spoke after the meeting. I think all of us are aware that we need to support Ukraine more and stronger than we

Before the meeting, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his country would be willing to send troops to Ukraine for peacekeeping, but so far no other country has made a similar announcement. The conference comes as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and top Russian diplomats are in Saudi Arabia. They are working out the details for the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American President Donald Trump that was agreed to last week. Stephen Hoff for CBC News, Vienna. In Rome, Catholics pray for the Pope's health.
Starting point is 00:04:14 A group carrying a cross gathers outside St. Peter's Basilica. Pope Francis has been suffering from a respiratory infection for more than a week and was admitted to hospital on Friday. Doctors say the 88 year old has a complex clinical situation and have changed his treatment. The Pope's public appearances have been cancelled until at least the end of the month. Canada has officially advanced to the four nations face-off championship game. Canada won 5-3 over Finland in a game that was nearly a shutout until the final minutes. This was a must-win game for the Canadians who now advance to play the U.S. And that is your World This Hour.
