Starting point is 00:00:37 The president and CEO of Toronto's Pearson Airport won't speculate on the cause of yesterday's plane crash. But Deborah Flint says the airport has been dealing with record snowfall. From last Thursday to Sunday, Toronto Pearson saw extreme conditions, two separate snowstorms. Flint says the two longest runways at Pearson remain closed due to the ongoing investigation. The Delta Airlines plane crashed while attempting to land
Starting point is 00:01:03 and rolled onto its roof. All 80 people on board survived. I cannot commend enough the crew, the flight attendants, pilots, and our emergency responders for their quick and effective response. It's really, really incredible. And when you see that aircraft, it just makes you really thankful for all the safety checks that go into running one of the world's safest air transportation systems. Canada's Transportation Safety Board says it has recovered the cockpit voice and flight data recorders. Mark Carney is dominating fundraising efforts in the race for the federal liberal leadership. Elections Canada filing show the former central banker has raised almost two million dollars. As Olivia Stefanovic reports, his competition is not even close. I'm getting my support
Starting point is 00:01:50 from the grassroots. Frank Bayliss may not yet be a household name but the former Liberal MP has raised more money than Christian Freeland in the first leg of the Liberal leadership race, pulling in just over $227,000. I've got a lot of the cultural communities. Freeland's team says it's working to correct its fundraising figures with Elections Canada. The initial data shows the former finance minister also trails behind Karina Gould, the former Liberal House leader, but not former Liberal MP Ruby Dalla. I am very grateful to all of the donors and the supporters.
Starting point is 00:02:28 None of the candidates are fundraising anywhere close to Mark Carney. The former Bank of Canada governor has raised the most money from the most donors. Over $1.9 million for more than 11,000 contributors so far. Olivia Stefanovic, CBC News, Ottawa. Canada's Heritage Minister will not seek re-election. According to Radio-Canada, Pascal Saint-Ange will make the announcement this week. She represents the riding of Brome-Sisquoie in Quebec and was elected in 2021. Saint-Ange plans to complete her term as Minister and MP.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Radio-Canada reports she wants to devote more time to her family. St. Olash made history when she became the first openly lesbian minister to take parental leave when her wife gave birth. American and Russian officials met in Saudi Arabia today and began outlining plans for peace talks to end the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainians weren't at the meeting. And in Florida, President Donald Trump was fairly clear on why he didn't think they belonged there.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Richard Madden reports. You have leadership now that's allowed a war to go on that should have never even happened. US President Donald Trump is now suggesting Ukraine is responsible for Russia's invasion. Trump also blasting Ukraine's president, Vladimir Zelensky, who's demanding to be included in US-led peace talks with Russia over Ukraine's future.
Starting point is 00:03:51 But today I heard, oh, well, we weren't invited. Well, you've been there for three years. You should have ended it three years. You should have never started it. You could have made a deal. I could have made a deal for Ukraine that would have given them almost all of the land. This marks a major US policy shift on the bloody war and comes as U.S. and Russian officials
Starting point is 00:04:09 agree to reopen embassies and to continue high-level talks to end the conflict with no input from Ukraine for now. Richard Madden, CBC News, Washington. Starting point is 00:04:45 will last. And that is your World This Hour. For CBC News, I'm Tom Harrington. Thanks for listening.
