From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Neil Herland. Former Liberal MP Ruby Dalla says she's not giving up.
Last night she announced she's appealing a decision by her party to disqualify her from the federal Liberal leadership race,
and she posted an emotional video on the platform X. Please do not disqualify me.
It will not send the right message for our party to immigrants
and for young people and women in our country.
A Liberal Party committee voted unanimously on Friday to disqualify Dala
from the race to be the next leader.
The party said she broke 10 rules, some involving the party's expense policies.
The four remaining Liberal candidates will face off in two debates starting tonight.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has arrived in Ukraine to help mark the third anniversary
of Russia's invasion.
Trudeau will also hold his final official meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr
Zelenskyy before he leaves office in March.
Friedrich Merz will be the next Chancellor of Germany.
Now Rambo Zambo is allowed to be in the city!
His centre-right party won the most seats in Sunday's election.
The far-right Alternative for Germany came in second place,
and the party led by the current Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, came in third place.
This is a bitter election result for the Social Democratic Party.
This is also an electoral defeat that I think has to be clearly stated after such a result.
Coalition talks will now begin to form the next German government.
As tensions rise between Canada and the US over Arctic sovereignty,
some politicians in Nunavut had questions about it. As TJ Deer reports, it took
place during the first two days of the Nunavut Legislative Assembly's winter
session. After Nunavut's premier spoke on Radio 1's of the Current about
nation-building projects, an MLA had questions about one in their writing. On day one of the new session, Okumyut MLA Mary Kalikdy wondered about the
rising cost of a proposed deep seaport in Kikotajwak.
Can the minister indicate what commitments he has received from the federal government
and other partners to obtain the additional funding?
Economic Development and Transportation Minister David Akiyakok responded in Inuktitut, saying
it's up to the Federal Finance Minister.
The Premier had left question period early for a call with the First Ministers.
Another topic? The military's presence in Nunavut.
Conservative leader Pierre Poliev had this suggestion.
Build Canada's first permanent Arctic base since the Cold War, CFB Iqaluit.
That's part of his plan to defend the Arctic.
While Arctic sovereignty is still expected to be discussed in the coming days, the territory's
operating budget is set to be tabled later today.
TJ Theer, CBC News, Iqaluit.
And finally, the Screen Actors Guild Awards were given out last night to honor the best
performances in TV and film.
The Vatican thriller Conclave took home the top prize for best performances in TV and film. The Vatican thriller
Conclave took home the top prize for best film cast and there was one
surprise winner. Steve Futterman reports from Los Angeles. Just one week before
the Academy Awards the SAG Awards may have given some hints as to which
performers are likely to win Oscars. And the actor goes to Timothy Chalamet. On an evening where most of the winners
were expected there was one big surprise. Timothy Chalamet won the award for best lead male actor
in a feature film for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in a complete unknown. I know people don't usually
talk like that but I want to be one of the greats. I'm inspired by the greats. The favorite had been
Adrienne Brody for The Brutalist.
The other awards did go as expected.
Best lead female actor to Demi Moore for The Substance.
The supporting awards went to Zoe Saldana for Amelia Perez and Kieran Coulkin for A Real
Pain.
There was one clear political moment during the show.
Jane Fonda in accepting the Life Achievement Award. A whole lot of people are going to be really hurt by what is happening, what is coming
our way.
She alluded to serious issues facing the U.S.
Steve Futterman for CBC News, Los Angeles.
And that is your World This Hour.
For CBC News, I'm Neal Herland.
