He's one of the most wanted men in the world. This isn't really happening. Officers are finding large sums of money. It's a tale of murder, skullduggery and international intrigue. Starting point is 00:00:34 From CBC News, the world is our. I'm Tom Harrington. Public safety minister David McGinty is in Washington today promoting efforts by Canada to fight fentanyl trafficking. His first visit occurring as US President Donald Trump is doubling down on his threats to impose sweeping tariffs next week. Cameron McIntosh has the latest. We can control what we can control. Starting point is 00:01:09 security, claiming fentanyl from Canada is killing thousands of Americans. About 1% of US fentanyl moves through Canada. Along with the heads of the RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency, McGinty is meeting with Trump administration officials, highlighting recent seizures, including a month-long RCMP initiative that led to more than 500 arrests. Any tests that was that was put on this country on Canada in terms of showing progress and meeting standards for the border, I believe those have been met. Self-described misogynist and accused human trafficker Andrew Tate has landed in Florida along with his brother Tristan. The pair arrived on a private jet after Romanian prosecutors lifted their travel ban. This is a democratic society. It's supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, as my brother and I are.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Tate called accusations against him lies and smears. The podcasters and social media influencers are still under investigation in Romania for human trafficking, sex with a minor, and money laundering. They are British citizens and outspoken supporters of Donald Trump. Their release comes after months of diplomatic pressure from the White House. Turkey's jailed Kurdish leader has called on his Kurdistan Workers' Party members to lay down their arms. Abdullah Ocalan also says the party, also known as PKK, should dissolve. 40,000 lives have been lost during its decades-long fight with Ankara for an independent Kurdish state.
Starting point is 00:02:43 The PKK is deemed a terrorist organization by Turkey and its Western allies. Ocalan's appeal could have far-reaching implications for Northern Iraq, where the party is based, but also for neighboring Syria. Federal and Manitoba governments have reached a deal on pharmacare, the first in the country. Ottawa will give more than $219 million to the province over four years. The money will cover contraceptives and diabetes medications. Manitoba has agreed to provide free coverage for home-grown replacement therapy for women

Starting point is 00:03:42 Manitobans will start receiving coverage for the majority of these products and services in June. It could take weeks to identify the potential human remains discovered in a landfill near Winnipeg yesterday. Since December, crews have been looking for the bodies of two murdered First Nations women. Morgan Harris and Mercedes Myron were victims of a serial killer, and police believe their bodies ended up in the Prairie Green landfill. Manitoba Primer, Wab Kanu, says yesterday's discovery has strengthened the resolve of everyone involved in the search. The people actually doing the search, many of whom are university students studying to become forensic anthropologists, they said they were motivated. They were motivated to get back into the search facility and to continue this work because they've now seen some very direct evidence of how they can potentially bring closure for these families.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Canoes says the search paused after the discovery but resumed this morning. The chief medical examiner and the RCMP are working to identify the remains.
