Starting point is 00:00:00 In Scarborough, there's this fire behind our eyes. A passion in our bellies. It's in the hearts of our neighbors. The eyes of our nurses. And the hands of our doctors. It's what makes Scarborough, Scarborough. In our hospitals, we do more than anyone thought possible. We've less than anyone could imagine.
Starting point is 00:00:19 But it's time to imagine what we can do with more. Join Scarborough Health Network and together, we can turn grit into greatness. Donate at lovescarborough.ca. From CBC News, the world is sour. I'm Neil Kumar. A heated Oval Office Exchange has derailed an agreement between the US and Ukraine,
Starting point is 00:00:41 which started as a meeting to discuss a historic peace deal that could have ended the warm Ukraine, quickly spiraled into a standoff between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Paul Hunter has the details. You're gambling with the lives of millions of people. You're gambling with World War III. It was an extraordinarily tense, jaw-dropping scene in the Oval Office, something rarely, if ever, seen or heard from this place before.
Starting point is 00:01:09 I think it's disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media. The attitudes have to change. U.S. President Donald Trump and his Vice President, J.D. Vance, berating Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, arguing openly and forcefully over Ukraine's wartime needs and whether the U.S. will continue aiding Ukraine in its defense against Russia's brutal onslaught. The plan had been for Zelensky and Trump to work toward Ukraine signing a deal allowing U.S. access to its critical minerals. But further talks were promptly cancelled.
Starting point is 00:01:45 The deal went unsigned and Zelensky left the White House. Paul Hunter, CBC News, Washington. There's jubilation in Moscow after the dressing down of the Ukrainian president received in Washington. But European leaders say their support for Ukraine is unwavering. We are all right to help Ukraine and to sanction Russia three years ago and to continue to do so. French President Macron says Western allies will continue to support Kiev in its fight against the Russian aggression.
Starting point is 00:02:12 The leaders of Spain, Germany, Poland, Estonia and others say they're standing by Ukraine and President Zelensky. That shocking presidential argument in the Oval Office stole the spotlight in Washington. But behind the scenes, Canadian and Mexican officials were meeting with White House officials, making a last-ditch effort to avoid 25 percent tariffs that are scheduled to hit on Tuesday. Tom Perry has more. One thing I've learned is not to speculate. Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne, today assuring people the federal government is continuing its efforts to stave off US tariffs, set to drop on Canada early next
Starting point is 00:02:50 week. But after Champagne spoke, something else happened in Washington. If you didn't have our military equipment... US President Donald Trump and his Vice President J.D. Vance berating, insulting and dismissing Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky. Flavio Volpe, head of Canada's Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association, was watching it all on television in horror. It is as jarring as it is sad, but it's instructional for anybody here in Canada
Starting point is 00:03:17 who thinks that we're dealing with a traditional, rational counterparty as we face down these terror threats. Volpe says what today's ugly episode in the Oval Office shows is that Canada needs to be ready for anything in its dealings with the U.S. Tom Perry CBC News Ottawa. The pope has suffered a setback as he battles pneumonia in both lungs. The Vatican says Francis has had an isolated breathing crisis that caused vomiting and he was given what the statement
Starting point is 00:03:44 calls a noninvasive mechanical ventilation to help and breathe. has had an isolated breathing crisis that caused vomiting. And he was given what the statement calls non-invasive mechanical ventilation to help him breathe. Francis was admitted to hospital two weeks ago. Authorities investigating the deaths of movie star Gene Hackman and his wife say their bodies tested negative for carbon monoxide, but the cause of death is still unknown. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza says
Starting point is 00:04:04 Hackman likely died more than a week before he was found dead. An initial interrogation was conducted of Mr. Hackman's pacemaker. This revealed that his last event was recorded on February 17th, 2025. The couple was found dead in their New Mexico home on Wednesday. One of the couple's dogs also died. Though foul play was initially ruled out, Santa Fe police say the circumstances are suspicious enough to warrant an investigation. And that is your World is Sour.
