If Trump follows through, Canada plans to retaliate on Ontario Premier Doug Ford. You have two choices here folks. We roll over as a country and just let them run over us or we fight like hell like we've never fought before. Ford is threatening to remove U.S. alcohol off provincial shelves. He's also asking retailers to place a Canadian flag price sticker on domestic goods, suggesting he'll legislate the consumer measure. David Thurton, CBC News, Ottawa.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Starting today, Canada's largest province is changing its screening test for cervical cancer. Ontario will now test for HPV, the human papillomavirus. It's a more accurate screening method and replaces the PAP test. The move is part of a push to reduce deaths from cervical cancer. Most jurisdictions in Canada are either switching or plan to switch to the HPV test. Several European countries and Australia have already done so. Before his audience with the King, the Prime Minister said he planned to discuss matters of importance to Canada and that nothing seemed more important to Canadians right now than standing up for the country's sovereignty. Starting point is 00:02:54 have been taunting Canada, calling it the 51st state and referring to the Prime Minister as Governor Trudeau. King Charles has not commented on the President's remarks. That is in line with protocol. He would take direction from the Prime Minister and now that the meeting has wrapped, it is possible that going forward we could hear the King say something in defense of Canada being a sovereign nation and part of the Commonwealth realm. Starting point is 00:03:30 The Vatican says Francis experienced two episodes of what they're calling acute respiratory insufficiency. As a result, he went back on non-invasive mechanical ventilation. The Vatican says he was alert, oriented and cooperative at all times. They add his prognosis remains reserved. Police in Germany say there does not appear to be a political motive in today's fatal accident in Mannheim. At least two people are dead and several others were injured after a car drove into a crowd.
Starting point is 00:04:03 It happened as the city was preparing for a week of carnival celebrations. In recent months, vehicles have been used as weapons in several acts of violence in Germany. Police say a 40-year-old German national is in custody and there is no further threat to the public. From one court to another, Serena Williams is joining the ownership group
Starting point is 00:04:23 of the Toronto Tempo. The WNBA team will begin play in the 2026 season. The tennis superstar will partner with Larry Tannenbaum, chairman of Kilmer Sports Ventures for the Tempo. It says Williams will also play an active role in future jersey designs. Williams is the latest performer professional athlete to join a WNBA ownership group. Others include Magic Johnson, Tom Brady and Dwayne Wade. And that is your World This Hour.
