Starting point is 00:00:36 Miles. We begin in Winnipeg. I made a commitment to these families that we were going to do something for them and we've delivered on it. Manitoba Premier Wap Kanu has been meeting with the families of four indigenous women murdered by a serial killer. Human remains were found in a landfill near the city and now are identified as Morgan Harris, one of the victims. Her family and the other families pushed for years to get the authorities to agree to search for their loved ones. When Premier Wamp Canoe was elected last year, he ordered that search. This is what we wanted. This is what we set out to do, was to bring home Morgan Harris
Starting point is 00:01:14 and Mercedes Myron. We didn't know whether or not we would be able to accomplish. We knew that we were going to try. We can now say that we've been able to deliver on that attempt. And I hope it helps to bring closure and healing. Canoe says he's hoping the identification process on a second set of human remains will be complete in the next couple of weeks. Toronto police are investigating a mass shooting this weekend. It happened inside a busy Scarborough pub late Friday night with three men walking in and opening fire.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow shares more details. I can confirm that 12 people have been injured and taken to hospital including six with serious gunshot wounds. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Police say the injuries of those six people are not life-threatening. The search is on for the three male suspects. Two had handguns. A third was armed with an assault rifle. The remnants of former tropical cyclone Alfred are lashing Australia's east coast. Those winds have taken out power lines, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without electricity.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Cleanup efforts are already underway with some communities expecting their largest ever recovery mission. And while the storm has been downgraded, officials are telling people not to venture out. Among them, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Heavy rainfall, damaging wind gusts and coastal surf impacts are expected to continue over coming days. I urge everyone to continue to listen carefully to the emergency authorities." At least one person is confirmed dead. More than 1,000 people in Syria have been killed over the past two days.
Starting point is 00:02:57 The violence started when gunmen and security forces targeted members of the minority Alawite sect loyal to ousted president Bashar al-Assad. According to the UK based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights about three-quarters of those killed were civilians. There is an upside to the trade war between Canada and the US for some small businesses. They're reporting big jumps in sales in recent weeks and they're attributing the change to people making an effort to buy Canadian instead of American. Bianca McEwen reports. Workers at Auto Valley Meats are packing boxes nonstop.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Demand has picked up ever since Trump started calling Canada the 51st state. As soon as that famous saying came out, all of a sudden we started getting calls, we started getting emails. People really wanted to make sure what they were buying was Canadian. Owner Darius Campo says February saw a 30% increase in orders. We're seeing a lot of Canadian come out. People are really proud of the fact that they're buying Canadian. Also packing more orders is Brody O'Connor, co-owner of Belongia Apparel.
Starting point is 00:04:02 They've seen a 35% increase in first-time orders. And new to the clothing line, Made in Canada printed crewnecks. We were looking for something that people could wear that really sort of spoke to how they feel about what's going on in the world right now. The collection sold out fast, 130 gone in two days. We figured it would be popular,
Starting point is 00:04:21 but we didn't realize it would be quite that popular. Of course, they've relaunched more. Bianca McEwen, CBC News, Ottawa. Daylight saving time comes into effect at 2 a.m. Sunday. Clocks have just moved forward one hour in the Eastern time zone.
