Starting point is 00:00:00 In Scarborough, there's this fire behind our eyes. A passion in our bellies. It's in the hearts of our neighbors. The eyes of our nurses. And the hands of our doctors. It's what makes Scarborough, Scarborough. In our hospitals, we do more than anyone thought possible. We've less than anyone could imagine.
Starting point is 00:00:19 But it's time to imagine what we can do with more. Join Scarborough Health Network and together, we can turn grit into greatness. Donate at lovescarborough.ca. From CBC News, The World This Hour, I'm Peter Dock. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is urging Ukraine's allies to keep the pressure on Russia. President Zelensky, who's with us this morning, has shown once again that Ukraine is the party
Starting point is 00:00:49 of peace because he has agreed to and committed to a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. Starmor is hosting a virtual summit of the so-called Coalition of the Willing. Canada is among the 25 nations that agree to help Ukraine militarily and financially. Their goal is to get Russia to agree to a ceasefire. The talks do not include the United States. Nova Scotia premier Tim Houston has appeared on Fox News. Houston's office says it pitched the interview to the American TV network. It wanted the premier to speak directly to Americans. We value the relationship with the Americans. We're good customers back and forth.
Starting point is 00:01:27 These are really important relationships. A lot of family ties too. Not only commercial ties. So, you know, all the talk about the 51st state and just the fact that they put tariffs on Canada, it feels like our best friend punched us in the nose. Houston was in New York meeting with several American companies that have operations and investments in Nova Scotia.
Starting point is 00:01:46 This weekend he will attend the Atlantic Seafood Expo in Boston. New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt will also be there. Quebec City's Trois-Huit-Huit Clinic closed down this week. The specialized clinic offered treatment services for people living with psychosis. CBC's Sarah-Kate Delair reports. Québec solidaire M&A Etienne Grandmont says it is a sad day for the neighbourhood. He suspects people will be mourning the closure of the 3-8-8 clinic for years to come. Open since 1982, the treatment centre welcomed patients dealing with psychosis from across the province.
Starting point is 00:02:26 But back in July, the regional health authority announced it wanted to end its funding agreement with the Trois-Buits-Buites, arguing the $1.8 million budget could be used in other ways. On Friday morning, the doors to the clinic were locked and the windows boarded up. Lucie Cantin is one of the co-founders. And the windows boarded up. Lucie Cantin is one of the co-founders. She says patients are now afraid they will have to go to the hospital, including ERs. Cantin says that would cost more than investing in the 388. Sarah Kate Dallaire, CBC News, Quebec City.
Starting point is 00:02:57 According to state-run media in Cuba, the national electrical grid has failed. There are widespread blackouts in Havana and across the country. Officials are investigating the cause and magnitude of the problem. And it was a heist that made international headlines. A famed portrait of Winston Churchill was stolen from Ottawa's Chateau Laurier Hotel. Now the man behind the crime has pleaded guilty.
Starting point is 00:03:22 CBC David Fraser reports. Jeffrey Wood admits he swapped the real portrait, known as the roaring lion, for a copy during a COVID-19 lockdown. The Churchill portrait was taken by renowned photographer Youssef Karsh, and it had been bolted to the wall. The swap went unnoticed for months. An international investigation tracked it down. Wood had sold the portrait to a buyer in Italy who didn't know they were purchasing stolen goods. Wood made just over four thousand dollars from the sale telling court it was to help out his brother. Here's his lawyer Lawrence Greenspawn. This was not a crime of greed, it was a crime of love.
Starting point is 00:03:57 The roaring lion is now back at the Chateau Laurier. Genevieve Dumas is the hotel's general manager. She hopes Wood gets jail time when he's sentenced next month. It doesn't change anything in the story. We're just hoping that April 14, the results will be significant because we just don't want this to happen again anywhere. Prosecutors are looking to send Wood to jail for about two years. He is asking to have his time served in the community. David Fraser, CBC News, Ottawa.
