From CBC News, the world is sour. I'm Khalil Hassan Ali. Sources have told the CBC that April 28th will be Election Day. Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to meet with Governor-General Mary Simon at noon Eastern
Starting point is 00:00:47 tomorrow and ask her to dissolve parliament. Despite the election, the trade war with the United States continues. Speaking in Montreal, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Jolie said she, her fellow ministers and Prime Minister Mark Carney will do their jobs at the same time. We'll be there for April 2nd when President Trump is coming up with his new tariffs. And there's an important meeting at NATO on April 3rd and 4th. And I'll be there notwithstanding that I'm also a candidate. Carney has said it's crucial that the government have a strong mandate from voters as it goes into battle.
Starting point is 00:01:22 CBC Radio will have special coverage Sunday when the election is called. It will be hosted by Your World Tonight's Susan Bonner and Pia Chattopadhyay of the Sunday magazine along with Katherine Cullen of The House. You can catch it at 11 a.m. Eastern, 8 a.m. Pacific on CBC Radio 1 and the CBC Listen app. Ahead of the dissolvement, the liberals announced the expansion of the dental care program today. Starting in May, Canadians between 18 and 64 can start applying for the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Kamal Khera is the federal minister of health. This cohort is the largest group to enroll in our dental care plan.
Starting point is 00:01:59 In total, we're expecting an additional 4.5 million Canadians to be eligible for dental coverage. Kara says in total, roughly 9 million uninsured Canadians will now be eligible for dental coverage. Those who apply in May could receive coverage as early as June 1st. In the United States, the Trump administration revoked temporary legal status from more than half a million people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela, until now they were in the U.S. legally under a Biden-era program. As Chris Reyes tells us, it's Trump's latest controversial
Starting point is 00:02:37 clampdown on migrants. In a town in Venezuela, weeping family members are pleading with the Trump administration to reconsider their loved one's deportation. What they're doing with these boys is unfair, said one mother, who claims her son, who was deported from the U.S., along with more than 200 others, is not a gang member. The Trump administration invoked an 18th century law, the Alien Enemies Act, to justify the deportations earlier this month,
Starting point is 00:03:09 claiming those rounded up and sent to El Salvador were all members of the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua. A court order has challenged the expulsions. President Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, defended his boss's orders. So the president took his authority to executive action and this right thing to do. TDA is an enemy of the United States. Starting point is 00:03:34 Nova Scotia is the latest province to take Teslas off the list of electric vehicles eligible for two to three thousand dollar rebates. Manitoba made a similar move earlier this week, dropping Tesla and Chinese-made electric vehicles. BC Hydro is also banning new Tesla products from its EV rebate program. All three governments cited Elon Musk's association with Donald Trump. Avalanche Canada has issued a special public warning for the central Rockies, an area which includes several national parks. Parks Canada safety specialist Lisa Paulson warns people may not be aware of how unstable the snowpack is until it's too late.
Starting point is 00:04:15 That's what's alarming for this weekend is it might not be as obvious, but we are getting daily reports of remote triggering large avalanches. Like this person doesn't necessarily have to be on the slope. They can be tens or even in some cases this week, a hundred meters away, even on lower angle terrain and trigger terrain overhead. Officials recommend people check avalanche forecasts before venturing into the backcountry. The warning is in effect through Monday. That's the World This Hour.
