Prime Minister Mark Carney is heading to Rideau Hall today. He's expected to ask Governor General Mary Simon to dissolve Parliament, launching the country into a five-week federal election campaign.
Starting point is 00:01:21 As Olivia Stefanovic reports, it could be one of the most pivotal in decades. I trust Canadians. After just a week on the job, Prime Minister Mark Carney is turning to voters asking for their trust to lead them in the fight against threats to Canada's economy and sovereignty. But the battle won't be easily won. We need a change. Conservative leader Pierre Poliev says Canadians can't afford a fourth term of the Liberals. Led by Mark Carney, who working with Trudeau made Canada weaker and poorer. The Conservatives are pulling neck and neck with the Liberals, leaving New Democrats far behind.
Starting point is 00:01:58 But if NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is concerned, he's not showing it. I want folks to know that I'm fighting for you. I'm fighting for you and I want to be your Prime Minister. Much could change over the course of the next five weeks. After all, campaigns do matter. Starting point is 00:02:26 near each other in the upcoming federal election. Carney will run in the Ottawa riding of Nepean. It borders Paulyev's Ottawa area riding in Carlton. On X, Carney said he's honored to be running in the riding, calling the upcoming election quote one of the most consequential in our lifetime. Israel's military says it intercepted a projectile launched from Yemen before it was able to enter Israeli territory. Israel is blaming Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Overnight an Israeli strike in southern Gaza killed at least 30 people, according to local officials.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Hamas says one of them was a senior political leader within the group. Pope Francis is back home at the Vatican. Francis was released from hospital today after five weeks of battling pneumonia. Megan Williams reports. A delighted crowd celebrates the pope's first public appearance on his balcony at Rome's Gemelli Hospital, with the Pope looking puffy and tired, thanking those below. And voicing his appreciation for the yellow flowers, he spotted an older woman holding. Shortly after, Francis left Gemelli in a car surrounded by a police convoy that ushered him through the Eternal City with a stop at Santa Maria Maggiore,

Throughout his weeks in hospital, Francis was treated with antibiotics and other medication, as well as administered oxygen. When doctors announced the Pope's release from hospital yesterday, they cautioned it would take the 88-year-old Catholic leader another two months of rest to properly recover. Megan Williams, CBC News, Rome. Parents often wonder how young is too young to allow your child to use a cell phone. Cindy Greer of Knoxville, Tennessee, quickly found out. Her three-year-old daughter, Belle, jumped into action after her mother suddenly collapsed.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Greer described what happened to a local ABC news station. My blood pressure has been acting up really badly lately, so they switched my medicine and I was doing laundry and I guess I stood up too fast. I'm not real sure. Anyway, I woke up to her being on the phone with a 911 operator and a police officer coming through my front door. Greer says Belle learned how to use the emergency call button on the phone's home screen from her Head Start child care program. She says she's extremely proud of her three-year-old daughter for remembering what she learned. And that is your World This Hour.
