Whose take do you trust during this election cycle?
I'm Rosemary Barton, CBC's chief political correspondent.
At Issue is also where I listen and learn from the very best.
Chantelle Bair, Andrew Coyne and Althea Raj.
They are political heavyweights.
They write and talk about politics for Canada's biggest publications and
broadcasters, and they help shape the national conversation.
So if you're looking for people who can connect the dots, cut through the spin, check out
the At Issue podcast every week, wherever you listen.
From CBC News, the world this hour.
I'm Gina Louise Phillips.
Conservative leader Pierre Polyev is promising to fund addiction treatment for 50,000 Canadians
if he becomes Prime Minister.
But not the kinds of treatment currently funded by the Liberals.
Olivia Stefanovic has more.
These are radical and extremely bizarre social experiments.
Conservative leader Pierre Poliev taking aim at supervised consumption sites in the province
where the program started.
British Columbia is probably the worst place for fentanyl overdoses in the world as a direct
result of Liberal NDP policies.
Poliev says he would ban supervised consumption sites within 500 meters of schools, playgrounds,
daycares, parks and seniors' homes, and suspend the approval of any new supply facilities
until he sees clear evidence
they support recovery.
Poliev in a writing held by NDP MP Peter Julian campaigned in the rain with supporters outside
of the convention centre where Poliev gave his press conference as the NDP defends what
could be one of its last
strongholds in BC. Olivia Stivanovic, CBC News, New Westminster.
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is in Halifax where he is proposing affordable
housing through rent control. If any province or municipality wants federal
investments, federal funds to build homes, they have to put in place laws that
protect renters.
If we build a home and there's no rent control and there's affordability there, well that
affordability will evaporate because there's no rent control.
Meanwhile, Liberal leader Mark Carney will attend an event in Victoria, BC tonight.
Israeli officials are now saying the killing of 15 Gaza paramedics may have been a mistake.
A convoy of red
crescent ambulances came under fire while responding to an emergency and
video filmed by one of the victims contradicts Israel's initial version of
events. Philip Lee Shanok has more. Video recorded by one of the victims shows
emergency lights flashing on vehicles clearly marked as Palestinian red
crescent ambulances.
The convoy comes under fire, workers wearing high visibility jackets run for cover.
Survivor Munther Abed says the attack happened in the dark without warning.
While we were driving suddenly there were gunshots on the car there was heavy gunfire directed at us
he says. 15 men were killed their
bodies found in a mass grave along with the phone.
Nabal Farsak is with the Palestine Red Crescent Society. We need to ensure that
all of those who are responsible are held to account. Israeli Defense Forces
originally claimed the soldiers opened fire because a convoy was traveling
without flashing lights or headlights.
Now it admits its initial account was mistaken and says there will be a full investigation.
Phil Tshanok, CBC News, Toronto.
And we end with a big feat in sports. Alex Ovechkin has made NHL history.
Here is Ovechkin! He scores! He scores! Number 895!
The Washington Capitals captain broke Wayne Gretzky's record of 894 career goals.
The Great One held that honor for 31 years after taking it from Gordie Howe in 94.
The game against the New York Islanders was immediately paused for an on-ice ceremony marking the moment.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman gave Ovechkin a painting of him hoisting the Stanley Cup.
Ovechkin addressed the crowd and his team.
Like I always say all the time it's a team sport without my boys, the whole organization,
the fans, the trainers, coaches. I would never stand there and obviously I would never pass a great one.
So fellas, thank you very much. I love you so much."
A beaming Gretzky was on hand, as were Ovechkin's mother, wife and two sons.
