Online, he brags about being a misogynist and his videos have been viewed billions of times. Now, Tate and his brother are under investigation for human trafficking. US stocks tumbled for a third day in a row before recovering somewhat. US President Donald Trump is threatening China with additional 50 percent tariffs if Beijing does not withdraw its 34 percent retaliatory tariffs on Washington. Asia Pacific stocks, Shanghai to Tokyo and Sydney to Hong Kong plunged by levels not seen in decades. China posted its worst day on the stock market since 2008, and Hong Kong its worst since 1997.
Starting point is 00:01:13 And in Europe, the biggest stocks continued to slide, London closing with its lowest level in more than a year. Liberal leader Mark Carney is saying stock market turbulence is evidence investors aren't as confident as Donald Trump is about tariffs and Canadians will end up paying the price. The probability of recession in the United States has gone up significantly You see that from independent commentators And something that that we had warned about and I take no joy in that it coming it becoming more likely That will have significant effects on the Canadian economy. It's very hard for us to avoid that.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Carney says Canada has rock solid financial institutions to weather the economic storm. On the campaign trail, Conservative leader Pierre Polyev is pitching a new way to speed up energy projects. He's promising to cut red tape and have one environmental review. Starting point is 00:02:20 projects going forward. Poliev says his plan would create a deadline, ensuring those evaluations are done within six months to one year. The Conservative leader is also promising to greenlight 10 energy projects stuck in the federal approval stage, including a massive natural gas liquefaction project in northern BC, the second phase of LNG Canada. Starting point is 00:02:47 The NDP is campaigning in Toronto. Ashley Burke has that story. We also know people are feeling the stress and worry of Donald Trump. NDP leader Jagmeet Singh on the campaign trail in Toronto trying to tap into the biggest issue eclipsing the campaign, Donald Trump and his trade war. And it makes them even more worried about the future even more uncertain about what's gonna happen. So in all of this I want you to know New Democrats are gonna fight to make sure you can find a home that you can afford. Singh pledging to double the pace of construction in Canada to build 3 million homes over the next 5 years
Starting point is 00:03:22 including affordable housing. A plan with a 16 billion dollar price tag during a time of economic uncertainty. Singh defending it, saying he would end private consultants and tax loopholes to help foot the bill. He's headed to BC Next, where polls suggest his own seat is in jeopardy. Ashley Burke, CBC News, Toronto. Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and his team have agreed to a big contract extension, according to multiple reports. Lisa Shing has more on the deal worth half a billion dollars.
Starting point is 00:03:54 And it'll bring up Lad Guerrero Jr. A historic contract for homegrown star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. According to media reports, it's a 14-year deal worth $500 million US starting next year, pending a physical. Guerrero is in the final year of his current contract. Without an extension, the four-time All-Star could have hit free agency this fall. Some fans are ecstatic. I think it's really exciting.

The Blue Jays have yet to confirm the contract though Guerrero's would be the second largest in baseball history.
