Instead, he's doing the opposite, threatening another economic superpower with even higher tariffs. Katie Simpson has more. We are a friend of Israel, as you know. President Donald Trump sitting in the Oval Office next to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, listening closely to his new pitch to escape U.S. tariffs. I think Israel can serve as a model for many countries who ought to do the same. Trump seemed to do the same. Trump seemed to welcome the promise.

At the same time, he lashed out at China after it took a very different route, imposing retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods. If that tariff isn't removed, we're putting a 50% tariff on above the tariffs that we put on. What we're seeing is really no distinction between an ally or an enemy. Enu Manek is a fellow for trade policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. She says this will make life more expensive in the U.S. and sends a message to America's trading partners. If you decide to retaliate, we're going to hit back again.

After a weekend of mixed messaging, Trump signaled he is, in fact, open to negotiations. Katie Simpson, CBC News, Washington. Liberal leader Mark Carney says stock market turbulence is evidence that investors aren't as confident as Donald Trump is about tariffs and that Canadians will end up paying the price. The probability of a recession in the United States has gone up significantly. You see that from independent commentators and something that we had warned about and I take no joy in that it becoming more likely. That will have significant effects on the Canadian economy. It's very hard for us to avoid that.

Cardi says Canada has rock-solid financial institutions to weather the economic storm. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is addressing Western alienation. Charging Liberal policies are forcing her province to take a back seat. Olivia Stavanovic has more from Edmonton. The election is going to be decided before we have a chance to vote. It's a long-standing grievance in Western Canada, now refueling a push about breaking up the country, led in part by Wexit founder Peter Downing. The separatist movement is going to absolutely explode even more than when Trudeau was in back in 2019. Downing is part of a minority right now, but recent polling from the Angus Reed Institute shows

only one quarter of residents in Alberta and Saskatchewan feel their province is respected by the rest of the country. This is the time when we need to come together as a country. Liberal leader Mark Carney, who was born in the Northwest Territories and grew up in Alberta, says he is committed to building more pipelines. There is a lot of frustration on the part of Albertans. British Columbia will no longer be sending cancer patients to the U.S. for radiation therapy. The program has been in place since May 2023 to ensure timely access to treatment. The province says investment made in BC's capacity for radiation therapy is paying off. The province now has 10 cancer centers and wait times are down. This is all part of BC's 10-year cancer action plan to prevent, detect and treat cancer. The Toronto Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are in agreement on a 14-year contract extension worth $500 million US. The deal is not confirmed yet, but reports say it will start next year.

Guerrero is in the final year of his current contract. Without an extension, the four-time All-Star could have become a free agent. It's the most expensive contract in team history and the second most lucrative contract ever in Major League Baseball. The deal is right behind outfielder Juan Soto's $765 million dollar 15-year contract with the New York Mets. And that is Your World Is Sour.
