Starting point is 00:01:40 Tom Perry, CBC News, Ottawa. U.S. President Donald Trump says he's in no hurry to cut a new trade deal, but they will happen. Trump continues to take aim at critics of his trade war, including the independent chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve. Katie Simpson reports. U.S. President Donald Trump again defended his tariff agenda, which continues to draw intense scrutiny both abroad and at home. The U.S. Federal Reserve has resisted cutting interest rates, citing inflation, which has aggravated Trump. I would say the Fed really owes it to the American people to get interest rates down. That's the only thing he's good for. Trump does not have the authority to fire Powell, and his term is not up until 2026.
Starting point is 00:02:39 There are reports the Treasury secretary is urging Trump to tone down his rhetoric because it's making investors uneasy and could add even more volatility to the markets, which have already lost trillions of dollars in value since his trade war started. Starting point is 00:03:07 The shooter is believed to be a student and receiving medical attention Walter McNeil is the sheriff of Leon County. He says the shooter is the son of a deputy sheriff unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons and That was one of the weapons that was found at the scene. And we will continue that investigation into how that weapon was used and what other weapons perhaps he may have had access to. The scene at the university is still under investigation. At least 38 people have been killed and 102 others wounded
Starting point is 00:03:42 in US airstrikes on Yemen. The US military's Central Command has confirmed the attack was on the Ras Issa oil port. This is one of the highest reported death tolls so far in the campaign, which has involved hundreds of strikes since March 15th. To Kiev now. Vladimir Zelensky says Ukraine received information that China is supplying artillery and gunpowder to Russia, and the Ukrainian president says Chinese representatives are involved in the production of weapons on Russian territory.
Starting point is 00:04:15 China has been a steadfast ally of Russia, but until now it has tried to maintain the appearance of neutrality in the Kremlin's war on Ukraine. Troubled Canadian retailer Hudson's Bay is seeking legal approval to sell some of its most valuable possessions, including the original 355-year-old royal charter that established the company written by King Charles II in 1670.
